The Zach Wilson Era Is off to a Disastrous Start
"So let's talk about zack wilson. Because you mentioned him and watching him lose twenty five to six at home to the patriots and bill ballot check and bill. Bella check destroys rookie. Quarterback's he consumes them. He picks their bones. That's all stuff that we know already cleans. His teeth with the bones of rookie quarterback is what he does but we saw jets fans alex. You know throwing in the towel and it's week two. And i say that because they were literally throwing souvenir tales from the stands. And zach wilson. The four picks. I'm curious about climbing into your memory bank here because what do you. Alex smith remember about playing the colts back in two thousand and five pablo. I've definitely tried to forget this one all right but we're good. I do remember my first career. Start the number one defense at the time and like the colts were in their heyday. Payton was rolling. But that defenseman dwight free robert matt Bob sanders. i mean it was. It was a joke and yeah. It's all a terrible blur for me. Like four picks i think my rating was it like it was a disaster but i think that was a clear design i was i just turned twenty one. I mean i played only two years in college in a spread system now trying to plan their center. Probably this become this pro quarterback whatever that is and It was not good. I was definitely i. I felt unprepared. And it was a disaster and it showed. You've been a guy who had a four interception game really early after being a top. Pick your the number one overall pick of course. What do you counsel him. Hypothetically what do you stay to him after a game like this if you were to visit him. Alex smith kind of like a ghost of christmas future. What do you. What do you tell a kid who's very talented but also just had a day like this. I think exactly that. I mean i think you gotta go like for me. I just go to the third and fourth picks that he grew and pause before the snap and look look like jack. It's ten to three on this one. It's in the third quarter we got. There's a ton of football left. There's no reason to throw this ball up The way he did and then even the second one in the fourth grade. I mean i think it was thirteen to three. At that point. There is still time. Left like again I think going back to just doing your
Cam Newton vs. Mac Jones: Where Patriots QB Competition Stands
"The other side. I it's a more interesting. Quarterback is a quarterback competition in new england. What is the sense. You get the dynamic between cam. Newton and mack jones. Yes quarterback competition. We can call it that cam. Newton is the starter plated limited amount of time against the washington football team. And then as you mentioned mack jones and it's very important not only to listen to what bill bella checks says but what he does and what he did was put back jones out there with the first team offensive line for a couple of plays at the end of his at the first half against the washington football team and then he had max jones run the two minute drill the no huddle offense and that he did with command and obviously precision and they were very impressed with that but right now what he wants to see what bill belichick wants to see and he said this the other day he to see the whole team but particularly the quarterback play faster react faster execute faster and what better way to do that than enjoying practices with the philadelphia eagles and then a preseason game on thursday night but yes there is a competition and we'll have to see how this goes in the next couple of weeks but my money is on cam. Newton starting the season and mack jones quickly getting up to speed and pushing cam newton for the starting job.

"Nation's highest civilian honor. It's generally given to people who've made important contributions, everything from national security, toe culture in sports. We just talked to legendary college football coach Lou Holtz. A couple of weeks ago. Hammer Notre Dame head coach Donald Trump gave him the medal of Freedom, and I've just been made aware. And if you want to take if you wanna take over and give everybody the news go ahead is now who is Trump expected to award one more freedom of Medal of freedom this week. Bill Bella Check Bay treats and coach this week, Donald Trump is expected to give the presidential Medal of Freedom. To build freaking Bella check Now. I just spent all day defending this guy against impeachment. But now I'm having second thoughts. Go ahead. Pull it to impeach and Pelosi. Fine. Finish it off now, Bella, check the same bill. Bella check who got busted for spy gate, which isn't some sort of conspiracy. Some sort of, you know, tin foil hat. It was a thing. There were videotapes. They lost draft picks. Deflate gate. They got all kinds of sanctions and lost draft picks. And you're going to give Bill Belichick the Medal of Freedom. A spokesperson for the Patriots has not commented Gill. Bella check gonna get canceled. If he shows up for this thing, I don't think he cares, right. He's not on social media. He's not checking his mentions. He's working on what's going to be the practice team next year for the opening practice, because that's all that dude does his football. He doesn't have any Social media. Do you think Bill Bella check has any idea that there's been some unrest in the capital? I'm sure he's aware of that. I'm not sure he's Uh, where of what is happening with Twitter and social media and people getting banned and things like that because it's not on it. But these hardcore football coaches, all they know is football season. Yeah, they eat, sleep, breathe football. That's why he's so He's been around so long. Did you watch hard knocks this past year when it did the Raiders? I didn't Raiders and Jon Gruden Gruden comes home. He doesn't know the words to happy birthday when he's singing to like his kids. I'm telling you, these coaches, they only know one thing football. Happy birthday..

So into this This totalitarian, authoritarian view about just enforcing and shutting down everything. Despite all the evidence that it's it's not working. Five Await, says If your journalist under 40 with journalism as a career, you need a trust fund in order to tolerate the risk and low pay. "And all of a sudden there are 500 team and they're in the playoff mix and Bill Bella Textile Bill Bell attacked the last time I looked How many teams they're gonna be picked off of the Cardinals. If you go by the same assumption, I do that. That could have been a season ending lost last week. How many picked off the Cardinals couldn't put Bill Bella checking the Patriots down. I think a lot of people because the worst thing you can get is a motivated Cam Newton and it motivated Bill Belichick and they help the New England patient team. How about today, though, right? Everyone talks about Bill Belichick directed against rookie quarterbacks. Oh my goodness, it showed today against Justin Herbert. Justin Herbert was probably the best looking rookie quarterback that we've seen in in several years and all of a sudden Hey, just got dominated today. But look at the schedule for the Patriots. They got the Rams the Dolphins the bills before the cupcake end of the season game against the Jets. Six and six is nice, but I think they go one into in these next three games, and that's gonna keep them out of the playoffs. Okay, so you don't think they're going to get there? We shall say you brought up Cam, Which is another question that I wanted to ask you. Got a couple of quarterbacks that may be on the move this off season. Maybe either the team it's not going to go another direction or their contract up. Whatever. Um three guys, I'm going to give you three names. I want you to put him in order for me. Knowing full well that with one you're inheriting a contract. Thea other You're trying to get a contract done the other. You've got a contract that you may look at as a plus, But I'm just asking you, Tonto put them in order of the viability on the trademark trade and our free agent market. Cam Newton. Carson went Sam Donald If you were a team looking to get yourself a new quarterback, and you get to go free agent with Cam or make a trade for Sam Donald because you would have kwacha and his contract situation what it is or take on Carson Wentz and think a change of scenery can get him back to M V P level play like he killed in 2017. What do you put in those three guys in Think Sam Donald one, because I don't think we've seen just how good Sam Donaldson Bay. He's had every disadvantage that you could have as a quarterback coming into the league changing coaches changing coordinators, and we're just not going to see what his potential is until he gets some level of consistency. I used to say that about 20 Rome. Oh, Who used to have a different offensive coordinator. It seemed every single season. I think Sam Donald has a lot of talent. He certainly showed it at times, and he's certainly shown at times that he is still a young quarterback that needs to grow. It's like in baseball. Jody, right? There's always going to be a pitching coach out there. Rick Peterson that thinks that he could fix the guy, right. There is going to be a coach or a coordinator out there that thinks that they could turn one of these guys into their prized possession. Sam Donald would be number one on my list. And then I would go Cam Newton to before I go to Carson, West Carson Wentz contractors too much to take on. I don't think the Eagles get rid of him because I don't think they're gonna get enough in return for him unless they completely want to cut ties. And I see too many red flags with courses in the way that he plays as opposed to his ability he holds on to the football way too much. It's not just the reason it's not just the offensive line as the reason why he's the most sacked quarterback in the NFL, indecisive And he holds on to the football too long, and I think that that is just to me why I would put him third on that list. I'm not a big Carson month span it all and I'm a bigger fan than you are. But I do think the Eagles could try and trade him the cap it dead cat money that they would take would be lessened significantly by trade rather than cutting him. I think there's no chance that they'll cut him, but they will trade him. And they may actually have to put a pick in the deal. It could be Carson, plus 1/6 or seventh round pick for nothing in exchange just to get him off their camp going forward. If the Eagles go there, we got a couple again to go. But that's just gonna be a Indianapolis Colts. Yeah, reuniting with Frank Reich, who led him to that m V p season And who knows how many years Philip Rivers have a bust? If he even has a couple of years left? Why not? Yeah, well, then let me add rivers to list Is he forth out of those guys? Because he's gonna be a free agent at the end of the season. You're right. I don't even know if he plays again. Hey, might only play maybe one more year if that you might just retire, But I think that that is an interesting situation. The watch because I could also see Sam Donald going to the culture as well. Yeah, And I think Carson Carson game will certainly be tied to Andy. But I think that Sam does make a lot of sense. All right. We gotta sort of touched on the Giants. They get maybe the biggest surprise winner today, going to Seattle and beating the Seahawks. I have to give their defense a ton of credit. They played well today, see how he's got one of the best offense is and they just flat out shot him down. I shut him down, but they've been doing it for a couple of weeks. Now I know they're five and seven and I have gone on record. It's saying that I think that the winner in that division is going to win six games. If the Giants get to seven. I think they win it handily. Um Can they can they put up a defense against someone coming in? If they win that division below 500 picket the host a game can they actually won a playoff game this year? The white key The last two times that a sub 500 team has won a division that made the playoffs and hosted that playoff game. They both won those playoff games. Jordan it was the Panthers in the Seattle Seahawks. Remember the Marshal Lynch Earth quaking? The Giants can absolutely do it because we saw today in a one game bubble, and I know we're saying bubbling covert times, But no one came bubble scenario They have shown that they have the defensive effort. Jane didn't do much offensively, but they did enough to get the win. Today. I love the way this team fights. There's no quitting to see another job. Judge deserves a ton of credit. Jason Garrett is doing what he can with limited weapons that he has offensively but he does have some weapons. In Evin, Ingram and others. I think the Giants can absolutely win a playoff game, and I certainly think that they will be a very live home underdog in that first round of the playoffs, that you're gonna wanna bet on Fair enough. All right, I want to get your take on one of the game Judge we played moving on to Monday night. Football bills are on the road, and they're playing the 40 Niners. But the 40 Niners aren't home..

"Left has 46 yards. After after after a wonderful drive to answer the page. The Patriots opening drive of 13 Place, 75. Yards down seven. Nothing. They get the ball. They take it down the field. You kicked the field goal. You're feeling pretty good, 73. You're in it, you know, still close. And the clock has been bled. But you miss it. So you give the Patriots of all in great field position, And from that point on, it becomes a nightmare. A 69 yard punt returned by General Schatsky. And then a zoo. You mentioned why in the world would she even go for 58 your heart feel cool with with the disaster. You're kicking game has been it gets blocked and returned. Definite 40 44 yards And just like that is 28. Nothing New England and oh, by the way, Bill Bella checks pretty good when leading by two or more scores at the half. Well, they've only 1 94 in a row and leading by 14 or more at halftime only 94 in a row. And here's another. Him statistic for the L. A Chargers. And it's not the fault of the defense, but they have now given up 27, or more points in nine straight games. The fact that they have done it in eight straight was tied for the fourth longest streak in NFL history. So it continues to be bad for the Los Angeles charges. What do you do? We gotta talk about this, and we will as the second half goes on. But if you are Charger management I think it's becoming more and more clear that there will be a coaching change here. When do you make it? Well, why wait? We'll talk about that. Second half kick off in the air. We are underway and it is a short kick field at the five yard line to the 10 to the 15 up the middle of the 20 and out to the 23 this cage a hill with a flag down..
Boston - Patriots shut down practice after new positive COVID test; Broncos game moved, per report

Monday night's matchup against the Broncos postponed Bill Bella say the Patriots go said he's going hour by hour, day by day. That's really the way the NFL and the NFL Players Association took this. "37 minutes ago. And Brady made the point that the Patriots always improve. His time goes on, and I made a point of the defense, but he's right. It's broader than that. New England Bill Bella, checking that impressive staff don't understand. Like most teams don't what they have until two or three or four or five or six weeks. But unlike those staff, they actually know once they figured out how to adjust their scheme. To make it the best version. That's part of the brain. What Baljic does every year he is the best version was football team. Whatever that team is because of his coaching, the pages are already dynamic. The Cam Newton thing has worked. I'm not going to rule out a team because they could have injuries on the line like I wasn't going to rule out the Niners two weeks ago, but you can now because their season has come To a really unfair end on the turf in New York City, the pager legit. They're going to improve. Cam Newton has worked and Bill Bella check. It's early, but so far he's done it again. Number four. I got the Packers here and you can make a case for this team. Kleiman really high on this list. It's not disrespect. It's not my bears phantom, You'll listen enough hope eventually that you'll know I'm just going to respect and recognize game. The only reason I hesitate to have them higher and I think they'll climb is I don't think highly of the Vikings and I don't think highly of the Lions. It turns out that Minnesota is a total disaster because of Kurt cousins and the Lions. Our only countdown timer format. Patricia's gone But the Packers offense has looked incredible. They have a run game. The roster is younger defensively that there are a lot of things to like. And I still believe Take my homes out of it. I still believe that Aaron Rodgers. It's a commitment issue for him. It's coming issue if he'll be a Steeler fan on the roof of the Raiders. I mean, he's going to marry a woman in a year later be with the maid of honor. I mean, that's exactly basically what he's telling in real life. Have some commitment. My goodness to go all the way back to his original point, I probably wouldn't believe Maur so that Brady has connections to mess with us between the power company and the Internet provider, as opposed to ghosts messing with us, Brady having his fingerprints on this might actually be more believable to me. Patriots may soon have to deal with their first Antonio Brown issue and it has to do with his number
"We have to talk about the biggest storyline in the NFL Antonio Brown as it looks like the saga for Antonio in some ways is finally ending and in other ways. It's just beginning for number eighty four as Antonio uh-huh Brown signs a one year proved deal with the New England patriots and it's hilarious because there is so much speculation when all his shenanigans with the Oakland Raiders for going on that really it was just a grand master plan for Bill Bella check to somehow land the all world talent wide receiver in sure enough he gets released from the raiders and later that day signs deal with the New England patriots another huge weapon in the offense four. Tom Brady and this has shades of what Randy Moss did did when he was with the Oakland Raiders. Moss spent some time in Oakland during his games he played for the raiders. You could just see that the big hall of fame wide receivers hardest wasn't in it. He wasn't really producing for the raiders he was now running routes with this full heart. You can just tell that he wasn't the Randy Moss when he was sooner in Oakland and then he goes to the Patriots under Bill Belichick and has a career year a record setting year with Tom. Brady Brady threw for fifty touchdown passes does that offense was just a cold plays away from being the first team to go perfect nineteen in Oh as they were trying to catch the seventy two dolphins they lose of of course the super bowl to the tremendous comeback led by Eli Manning and the New York giants. Is this going to be just like that. Are we gonNA see a patriots team. That could possibly go undefeated after Sunday night. That's a very real possibility that defense for the Patriots absolutely shut down the steelers and and if they know they're gonna get just a boatload of points on the offensive side of the ball you know Bill Belichick GonNa give all of his time and effort to making sure that that defense is ready eighty each and every week for their match. Make sure everyone's healthy ready to go that the scheme is right and we very well could see a run at history again in New England might right sound a bit presumptuous just in week one but the steelers are a classic. AFC favorite especially when they had the big three Bell Brown and Rothlisburger now with two of those three pieces Gone Smith Schuster looks to pick up the slack for Antonio Brown but now yet to find someone to pick up the slack for Juju at that wide receivers Chris to spot you also gotta be be frank here that James Connor is not living on bell. We saw that in that game Sunday night so the steelers were still a good test defensively civilly always are fantastic and brady made them just look like a peewee football team out there as he had no problem going for thirty three points in that game and pass over three hundred honored yards. You put a be in that mix with Josh Gordon Julian Edelman the running back tandem of James White as well as Sony Michelle is going to be a really tough challenge to beat this patriots team and because of that you who who's to say I mean they they could do it. They could do it you. You can't say they can't there. There is a real world possibility with the addition of Antonio Brown that the Patriots could make some history but now we gotta look back at how this came to be an Antonio oneal brown you could tell really from the Gecko once he got into camp once he started running some routes with Derek Carr in this raiders offense something clicked in his head that he did not want. I WANNA be in Oakland. I mean he did the cryotherapy happens and you chalk that up to operator malfunction with the frostbite on the feet then he goes on this insane escapade with the helmet trying to get all that taken care of in think in trying to use his old helmet. He's used forever he. He's had six months to do it and he doesn't think that's enough time to find a new helmet. I mean he's not looking for new kidney. He just needs a helmet you. There's ways to figure that out to make it fit and make it. It'd be comfortable everyone else in the NFL did it why couldn't he that becomes an issue. He's stays out of training camp. He doesn't do the walk throughs. The helmet issue did not mean he couldn't couldn't practice with the team he did that on his own accord and then he goes after the general manager of the raiders after he gets fine for actions he knows our final. He did them with that in mind. There wasn't like that fine just came out of the sky on him and Mike mayock gets verbally costed by Antonio Brown he goes on a barrage. I use of slayer of slurs cuss words to Mike May Auchan your raiders still still planned on playing him in there Monday night game against the broncos broncos that says a lot about the raiders as an organization that they were willing to take this abuse from Antonio Brown and take all this Prima Donna behavior behavior that was happening with Ab and still play him Monday night when he's barely practice with the team we talked earlier in the season here here on this show about how Antonio Brown by taking all this media attention has helped the raiders rookies developed because they haven't had to deal with it and that's still true in the lot of the raiders rookies have talked talked about in themselves and the second year players have said by having Antonio Brown. It's been nice that they haven't had to deal with the media coverage and hard knocks and that was really a lot more centered around Antonio Brown but he's also had a terrible example as an a way to conduct yourself as professional with what he's done with the raiders clearly didn't want to be there show the the reaction video when he finally gets released from the raiders and all of that finally goes down and I think the raiders are better off for it you if you're going to establish a new culture in Oakland. You can't have this going on in your locker room on your sideline. You need to get Antonio Brown out of out of there if he wants out all the better let him go you cut your losses just saved a lot of money by voting that twenty nine million that you would yet. You'RE GONNA pay him over the three years Antonio Brown you get your wish you go you get to play for the Patriots I think both sides can kind of wash their hands of the issue but now the rest of the NFL has to deal with the Patriots and Tom Brady having Tony Brown as viable and very real. You'll weapon for them

Bill Belichick is not bad or good. It's who you want running things. That's the thing you don't want Garcetti yoga pants, chick think running anything because what you have is what you see this sorry he doesn't make tough decisions. He wants everyone to like him all the time doesn't want the homeless advocates coming after he. Doesn't want this. He doesn't win it. Good. If Bella check gave a shit about that. You think he'd have his five or six Super Bowl rings in the last fifteen years? Do you think that's he doesn't give you know how many popular players that guys to cut on a regular basis, it's got to be the least popular guy ever? All he does is cut beloved players. But he's who, if you're patriots fan. If you're playing for the patriots, you might not wanna be on that team during the offseason if you're getting paid. You do it. Coaching? Thank you. Folks. Now, twelve seconds. What did you want him to do? Trash talk. Valid check not talk to ballot. Check, by the way. That's how a young announcer treats VIN Scully when he meets him. That's how young NBA players treat. Kobe Bryant for twelve seconds when they meet him. That's how many young quarterbacks when they are on the field for the first time, and they see Tom they go over like, hey, man. I've been watching you forever. You're awesome. Dude. Totally respect your game. That's what I've done going up to a young Bob Costas years ago thirty years ago. What did you want him to do trash talk him Bill, Bella checks, the greatest football coach of our lives? One of the reasons. Sean McVeigh is an amazing young football coaches because he's watched he's watched Bella check. And he's watched Bill Walsh. And he's watched Jimmy Johnson. And he's taken stuff from him. So when he sees him before the biggest game of his career and walks up to him for ten to twelve seconds. What do you want him to do in the NBA? I see guys all have the same agents over here at UCLA Westbrook works out with Katie works out with LeBron works at all off season. I say this stuff all the time. I see all the time in sports people going up and saying, hey, man, you don't think young quarterbacks before they face Peyton Manning. And on the football field. Didn't walk up day man so much respect for you. You're the best. There's ever been mad love you. You think that decided the football game? Sean MC van Bill Belichick looked at tape. And I'm guessing here for thirty five to forty five hours. But you think that twelve seconds determine the game that's rate Lewis love him. But the here's what he's on Showtime last night. Things are loss. Only loss. I mean. Well, hold on guys. Like, this is not this is not preseason. Right. You'll get into a championship game your mentality of your leader dictates what what's your troops. Do this the other two five. Thank you. I'm not hearing it right there. I'm going to let him Greg. My guys know they human hit neighbouring, stop, right? Stop football games are not decided by twelve seconds before the game ram players. Didn't even know about that. Now, raise a defensive player defensive players are very emotional their job in a football game is to blow stuff up knock people over. So defensive players are very much about high emotion your arrival, I'm knocking you out a making you hurt. I'm making you wins. I'm blowing up your place. That's right Lewis. That's how defensive players see games offensive players. Don't offensive coaches steal stuff from one. Another offense is about unity. Choreography being a unified being under control taking the emotion out of it. Tom Brady doesn't want to be too jacked up. So he sailing throws. Ray Lewis wants to run through a wall defense and offense. If guys have a different mentality. I've I've heard this from GM's for years defensive guys. It's almost like you like them having a little screw loose Lawrence Taylor. Sometimes you're like is that guy. All there you want your quarterback to have it all their this is not why the Rams lost. This is how people who are young and talented and driven and who have had posters on walls, and they've had these huge dreams, and then they face Kobe, and then they face Mamadali. And then they face Tony LaRussa and they face Bill Belichick, and they and they meet been Scully or ally kyl's or gymnast. And they come up, and they're like, hey, man..

I'm gonna go there because it's a think tank for broadcasters. But by the way, I'm also going to ply to Harvard and Yale I'm gonna fly to an Ivy league school because that's the think tank that the best thinkers in America or the world go to because they want to be pushed you wanna go to Harvard year Yale. It's just like going to Bella check in New England. Like, you're going to be taught at a higher level. You're going to be pushed at a higher level. Then. The other football teams at organizations out there that get the best from no one understands how win NFL games better than Bill Bella Chet. There's no better teacher of football twenty four hours a day. Then Bill Bella chick. There's more. There's no more authentic person. Now, you see those interviews. You don't think that's all? But that's who he is. That's who the coach is there's no more authentic way to learn football than what New England's doing. And because now they have the track record of success. They can force more onto you now than before. That's why Bill check had a problem in Cleveland because he didn't have the track record right now. He has that track record. And that's why Sistan coaches when they leave their they don't have that track record by themselves. And that's one of the reasons why they struggle and the payoff for all of that work SuperBowl, fifty three. All right. Take a break coming up. How much is Jared Goff to blame for the rand Super Bowl? "Super Bowl fifty three Bill Bella checks, greatest accomplishments? No wins should vote number one as a failed head coach. Let's not forget what happened to him in Cleveland. He was trying to resurrect his career people believe in them. He just good defensive coach not with parcels. Can he win? Oh, he goes into England. He upsets the greatest offense. We had seen the NFL to greatest show on turf dismantled them. That was his biggest accomplishment. I think if they are able to go from eleven and five losing record on the road to Super Bowl champions with a dominating win in the first round of their the divisional round winning on the road. And then beating thirteen three Rams team. This would be neck and neck as his most impressive run. The best game ever is. Of course, the first Super Bowl against the greatest show on earth. I moved on talk about bursting onto the scene saquon Barkley had high expectations as the number to you over I'll pick by the giants did not. Disappoint. He mass two thousand twenty eight yards becoming just the third rookie to reach the two thousand yard milestone. And he joins us live from Atlanta saquon. Good morning. Thanks for hanging with us. Thanks for having me guys. I hope you're enjoying the week. We have to start off by congratulating you on winning Pepsi rookie of the year award. This voted on by the fans across the country. I'm sure it means something special. What is this honor mean to you say Kwan? Is crazy it just caps off the year? It's come come to work every single day. Be new giant live my gene playing NFL. And then at the end the year give it on NFL post Pepsi rookie year about a fan. So definitely I'd say thank you to the fans and also thanks to my teammates that everyone that helped me put get put in this position saquon, Chris, and I got to see you play in person in in college football at Ohio State a game that you started off with a kick return touchdown. And when you guys were warming up didn't have your jerseys on it was pretty clear to the best player on the field was just from watching you. And watching you in the NFL your ability to take the talent that you showed in college and make some NFL guys. Look like college defenders is really unlike anything I've seen at least regularly in my time watching the game. What do you think is the key to your success, and what I would consider almost an unprecedented ability to bounce off? If you're I hit keep your balance and keep moving forward. I was definitely give credit to my work as they come. And that things I do at my trainers, and, you know, put him in on come to visions and working on my strenght that I think ever since I was a high school. That's when I realized what you do in the off season, we do in a weight room, you do in training translates filled in ever since I took that took that approach. You know, I've been having lots of says, so I would definitely say giving credit strain on working on my strength worked on my speed. And we're gonna flexibility to be able to ban get lo-, you You know, know. I weigh like two hundred thirty pounds. I'm considered a bigger back. But to be like a smaller back. That's ain't you have to focus on. And I think that's one of the strengths of my play take one. There was a number of things that myself and others were worried about you coming from Penn State great career there at Penn State. We hadn't seen the Penn. State running backs be dominant in pro football fair or unfair you remove that myth in your rookie season. I typically would ask what was the biggest adjustment between college and pro. But since you were so successful give me what the Justice going to be from rookie year to year. Number two. You talked about your training staff. Now you've been through the league one year. What are some of the things you didn't know that you might need to work on? So that you might even improve on that great rookie season that you had. Well, I think not only for myself every rookie don't have this issue. We got your tape on us. So now coaches offseason going to be able to scheme on you..

"Like is it the offense that's doing it? Or as part of this Jared Goff having success in it. Well, no, it takes two to have this offense. Be what they been. It takes very good. You know, I've been a part of his offense on multiple occasions for a couple of different teams. And I've seen pretty good. And I've seen it be really good. And then I've seen the Ramsey special. You know, I to be a good during in the NFL, you've really gotta have three things you've gotta have a scheme that as a very flexible and creative and innovative. Then you've gotta have really good players. And then you've got to have a coach those how to call that team because you can get pieces of you can get unit that good because they've got really good players. You can get a unit that good because they got a scheme, but to get all three of them together is really where you get to see what the Rams have been able to do with their golfie doing what he's done over the past two years without this scheme. No would your golfie doing without what he's done the last two years what he'd be doing it without Sean McVeigh. No. Would he be doing something similar? We don't know. Like wouldn't be doing it with if he had, you know, Fisher still absolutely not if you plugged in Russell Wilson into that offense. Would he be having very similar production? Absolutely. So it's the combination of man, they got they got a really good scheme that friendly and stretches defenses and the chance to as a quarterback at the ball your hands. But also hit some chunks down the field. And it doesn't ask you to think too much at the line of scrimmage some really good players. And they got a coach you can dial it up and. I've said that the wave that's going on the NFL that really stands out to me as coaches like, Sean McVay, and Sean Payton, and Matt Nagy and any re- the big difference between these guys, and you know, really, the coaches that are just kind of waiting in the water is these guys fifteen years ago if you had some plays in your offense that were considered like gimmick plays or trick plays. They only used in very specific situations the guard, you know, we're up seventeen in the fourth quarter job good taking a chance here nowadays, these coaches, call gimmick plays as part of their offense, and they work and because it's the stress put on the defense. That's the main difference you McVeigh kinda wear this offense kind of taken off and. To dinner, Las key ESPN football analysts both collagen pro and you can see him on get up each and every morning on ESPN with my Greenberg and company a lot was made about Tom Brady and Bill Bella checks relationship. Look, I just think in any relationship you've been together for that long. You're going to have issues at some point or another. There's never smooth sailing in any relationship professional or otherwise how much of that gets overblown, particularly in professional sports. Well, I don't know if it's been overblown that much with this situation. Because when when you look at the patriots as an organization they've been the model for okay, how can we be good? Like, how how do we build an organization that is successful long-term Nathalie been the model? Get the the head coach that runs it his way. And then you get the quarterback. That's not only a great quarterback, but falls in line. And is the is the is citizen like the model citizen for I wanna do it. My head coaches way. And I say this year is defense coaching job by Bill Bella check of his career, certainly in the postseason and also the best readership job of Tom Brady's career. Because one this is the least county unit they've had one fifty three. This is the least talented football team that they've had yet. They're still in the Super Bowl into this is the MO. Most biggest elephant in the room. You're they've ever had. I mean, we go back to the set wicker sham ESPN story last year of Brady Bella check in Garoppolo trade and all that stuff. And I want the kind ever been leaked and Brady wanna do Bella checks way anymore. And it's not the patriot waiting more. And then the all season they got rid of Dion Lewis and Dollah and cooked like men that that's so many of his weapon, they let go and I was sitting there like they just let their top three weapon outside of bronc- go..

And the eagles. The saints. They're still complaining about the no Paul on Sunday. We're going to kick things off though with. I have for dinner. Now time ain't got time for you. I had a Brady shape. Bill Bella checker preparing for their ninth Super Bowl as a tandem after Sunday's win cameras caught a special moment as the two were seen in bracing saying they love each other same way, Nick and see see due to start every morning here as you'd guess it was a hot topic yesterday. Here's Tom Brady on his relationship with his longtime coach. We've always gotten along great. We've worked together for nineteen years. So you know, we've been in the same had the same goals in my for nineteen years. And you know, he's been just a great great mentor in my life. Great coach, he's taught me, you know, more than you know, anyone ever about the game of football. You know, I've always just loved playing here and playing for him. He's degraded coach of all time, and we just had some incredible moments together. We have heard and talked a lot about the relationship between these two notch us this year. But in years past the discord between them has been overblown because the here they are again. And obviously as you just heard from Tom Brady things are great. He last fifteen eighteen years in New England any story out of New England because of the success that they've had all of them have been overblown might of what you even if you go back to spy gate amount of coverage. Tom Brady's suspension all those things because the world champs though. The most intriguing story that we've had in sports in the last twenty year, and they dominated the landscape is far as they have created a lot of haters along the way being successful. So for me, this is more about this was inevitable. This was going to happen in the reason why is because Bill Belichick, and ultimately what he believes in is far as controlling his roster. As far as getting rid of players before they're out of their prime not signing older players to long-term contracts and him determining when a player when their shelf. Life was going to be ended him and Tom Brady based on what Tom this how Tom has tried to restructure his whole eating and restructure his his whole career based on eating. They were on a crash course because Tom Brady has been saying for a long time. I wanna play with forty five will Bill Belichick ultimately that was going to meet regarding. We weren't talking about anything else. Just forget about relationships..

"I think so many people are going to be tempted to jump on that patch. It's we'll see if the Rams Mike comes in and Vegas and things like that. I I think so many people be tempted to give Tom Brady and Bill Bella check that opportunity to write off in the sunset together. You know? One. Last thing. I want to ask you about here Joe. And and this is a point that a lot of people don't talk too much about. And we'll certainly hammer this point home with two weeks about the Super Bowl this week is basically about practise it's about walk-throughs. It's about getting in the training room and getting guys healthy next week. You know, maybe you practice Monday or Tuesday, something like that. But then you've gotta go to go to Atlanta, go through all the media obligations, the hoopla everything associated with this game. The patriots been there done that just did it last year. The Rams not so much. You don't have a lot of Super Bowl experience here. And you certainly don't have it with the head coach. So speaking specifically about Jared Goff. You know, when you were looking at him through the draft process, and all that how do you think he handles being this guy in the spotlight here next week with all the media stuff? Well, that's the one aspect. I do like about Goss. He seems to me to be Kwasi. I dumb, and I mean that in the most flattering way, I think he's got a short memory. He anything goes bad ages forgets it brushes it off and moves right along. It really does have that attitude about him. I think that's why a lot of people in the evaluation process liked him. Because he just has that really great quarterback attitude that oh that play didn't go up. I'll make the difference next by I'll make it up the next play. And that's kind of Mahomes has that that Matiz mo- bottom. It's like now it's going to be. All right. He's he's a very cool customer. I definitely I like him and media sessions, but I would worry if anything it's the time off time off like likely to maybe hurt the younger Rams team. And then managing the media. You just are. It's a barrage of questions like mentioned that second week is full force. They're just getting thrown in their face. And I think patriots team and particularly Brady, you know, they don't I they're just so good not even answering the media's questions, but yet spending a good ten minutes answering yet even though answer. So I think they're this set up for that that time off, and they'll be able to manage it. Extremely well. But yeah, that would be the worry is a just a younger team entirely. You know, I think emotionally the Rams have spent quite a bit just getting here and that might catch up with them at this time off. So that's that's definitely a worry. But as far as golf, though, I tell you it that there is a little stuff about them. You hear it in interviews you here in the huddle. When he's breaking plays in the sounds on its there's a reason he's a quarterback. He's he's pretty cool customer. All right last thing here, and this won't be Super Bowl related, but you're at the scene or you're going to be at the senior bowl here who are some guy. As you're looking at, you know, I mean, obviously, a lot of people know the biggest named seniors. But who are the guys you're excited to see down there? What think it's going to be a great defensive group? You know, everyone wanted to see how the quarterbacks last year Baker Mayfield. And Josh Allen. We don't we don't have those blue chips. But we do have is a few years that are I think in a be some of the best editors in about five years. We're talking about particularly Montesquieu sweat, the Mississippi State bulldog. He could have he could declare an early last year, but really wanted to cement his stock. And I'm glad he did he improved all everything about his game. And then Jalen Ferguson from Louisiana tech is the NCAA's career leading sacker he broke through L suggs record and a lot of pressures on him to show up this week against these tackles..

"From the forty three forty patriots win in week six over Kansas City. What could apply to the game tomorrow? And what might be completely different? Yeah. It's hard to know just because with Bill Bella chicks history of Morphing his defense more from his team for one week to the next ever know what he's going to come out with. So it's gonna be interesting to see how the patriots attack this. You know, the one thing about the chiefs patriots arrival really that that stands out to me not necessarily just that game. But the chiefs in patriots played four times since Andy Reid has been coaching the cheese three of the games then in New England and one in Kansas City, and they split the games to too. But the most interesting thing is the chiefs have forty at least forty points in three of the four games including that game earlier in the season. So I it seems like Andy Reid is able to figure out what villa Bella check has gone on defense and able to have a lot of success. Will that continue tomorrow? I don't see any reason it wouldn't I'm not predicting. That she's going to score forty points necessarily. But I think they'll be able to do some things on on offense. Because I it seems like this year they're pretty much able to do that against everybody. But just seems like Andy Reid has Bill Bella checks defensively since he's been in Kansas City. He has those defenses figured out. And how about the defense for the Kansas City. Chiefs out of why the difference between on the road and at home whether so dominant thirty one sacks at home.

"I'm not willing to walk out on that plane say that Kansas City has the coaching Vange over the New England feels like a game changer with Mahomes and all their weapons this year, though. I mean, it it really does like it felt like they were in New England felt like they were the better team. You know, they they made plenty of first-half mistakes that the. The week six game. And I was just rewatching some of those highlights. I was like man he missed like four throws that he's going to make now. So he Bill Bella check with Alex Smith, not once but twice he's got his number. And even if he doesn't have the coaching avantage, I think the chiefs have the town of antigen that might even it out. It's pretty well matched here very quickly. I mean, Joel you said before the chiefs winning the first quarter of the chiefs win the first quarter, and it's fourteen and again, you can book it, I know that's bad luck right there, pay your carrying say that sound bike. He's getting you gotta do haircut. He's getting super cocky, but here's the deal going into this game. You can't take Andy Reid. I'm sorry that six six to provoke championships. It's just a greater body of work. And Andy Reid is struggled in the playoffs. Belching? I don't I'm not saying that she can't win this football game. But if but you gotta be real with yourself. You're not taking Andy Reid over Bill. I in this game the body of work. There's no question. I mean, come on Bill. Checks the greatest of all time. But like dot said, sometimes the great ones have issues with certain guys. How many times we've seen in baseball some of the greatest hitters of all time. Like, hey, tell me the pitcher that you couldn't hit and at some freaking no name that you've never heard of in your entire life. But for whatever reason it was a bad match. Let me ask you a question. If you had the opportunity to have Elon manning instead of Patrick Mahomes in this game. Would you know why every time he li- manning in the big game beats Tom Brady well fair enough? But he li- man is about fifty five. Right. But what I'm saying is I look at the I of course, would want Patrick. I don't care that manning him in the big game twice. Of course. I'm taking the better quarterback to me bell checks better. Coach better coach, I would agree with you. I don't think there's any any any argument about him being a better overall coach Andy Reid. I think when Andy Reid goes against Bill Belichick. He gives them all sorts of different problems that he doesn't see when he's facing Adam gays in Miami or pick your other head coach in the NFL interesting point. I mean, built bell check is sixty six any Rita sixties. So if you really think about Patrick Mahomes as maybe this LeBron James, Mike. Jordan type of figure maybe there's a tenure stretch here where he can make begin the catch up at least a little bit. I feel like if Andy Rican finally have success in the playoffs. It may mean good things for the next five years or so especially with this quarter. But the other part of this too though, I look at like since bell checks essentially the defensive coordinator for the patriots. Right. And they don't have it offensive coordinator. They gotta linebackers coach the floor guy that ended up taking the job in Miami. Andy Reed's essentially the offense coordinator for the chief. So those dues are going head to head. Now, the changes when you've got the chiefs defense going it's Tom Brady. But I'm saying if you're going at vantage read, Bella check, any reads, put forty on them three or four times he's faced in Kansas City, and to me that isn't advantage. You gotta factor in the new Bob Sutton, though, the playoff Bob Sutton, arrive uncle, Bob has evolved. Probably defense. You tweeted that that was that was that was good. What is you guys? Biggest takeaway from the week six game by now thinking back to it..
Patriots Release WR Jordan Matthews After Significant Hamstring Injury, sign 1-year deal with Erick Decker
"What does he go play outside in a different sport now? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean six. Nine, whatever you gonna play when he gets blasted over the middle, is he gonna come back to the bra, took you seem stitching. His nose play with a mass drop sixty one on on on on the Hornets as broken. No, but he. Loved asked, and he'd be going around with a different mentality. That's a whole different ball football and basketball player. The why differently? Enough, realize it always comes back to this guy at some point. Thank you for being here. It's always good to get. Tom Brady is wide receiver group seems to constantly change and the patriots Jordan Mathews yesterday after he signed a one year deal this off season, but he reportedly suffered a significant hamstring injury on Sunday, the patriots maybe adding former titans wide receiver, Eric decker who worked out for the team this week. And yes, remember they will be without Jillian men for the first four games of the season. Shannon, what does this tell you. Kills me that a coach Bela checks. You gonna pull some weight or you guys to go. He was, I guess he was practicing whale playing well, and then he got Nick hamstring and coach Bela check says, you know what? You're not going to be doing this any good rehabbing on our dime. So we'll let you go ahead and go bring air Dicker and it looks like they're gonna sign deck, Jordan Mathews skip. I mean he really hasn't played well since he's left chip Kelly. I mean close to nine hundred yards. I two years, but he's always had this injury almost half thousand. Yeah, he's always had this injury bug that just popped up and I'm sure that factor the coach Bela checks decision of, yeah, you know, I was kinda hoping you're over this bug. Now, the last couple years deck has also suffered the injury bug, but I do believe that Eric decker is an upgrade over Jordan Mathews. He had his best years playing who skip pate, Manny. So you have a guy in Tom Brady that knows what he's doing with the football knows where to go with the ball is in complete command of this offense. And so I expect him to is big debt comes in this offense. I can see him catching. Forty fifty balls especially with Ellerman being the first the first four gay. Hell gronk it's still there not. He's still look at Tom Brady, Tom Brady can win without grunk, but you look at his numbers when gronk on the field. And you look at his numbers when gronk and on the field, this ubstantially different and plus decades. The mole grant Etima you know, they got Gatica got all all the Gallic, a guy. He likes to kind of look, Chris HOGAN. Now. L. look like. Thing shattered shock. I've been trying to tell you for two years Bill. Bella check can get away with near murder when it comes to the white outs this because it just doesn't matter. He has the greatest quarterback in the history of pro football who's also to use your term the greatest makeup artist ever because he can just cover up all the blemishes. It just doesn't matter. Just giving that guy, Joe Smith investors. Investors as the greatest ever. You know what Joe said that under. So. Look what just happened. Jordan Mathews was sort of the off season Saini by the New England Patriots because June Matty's dot, some ability. He played at my school Vanderbilt, and he is still the SEC all time career leader in catches and yards caught. That's pretty great, Nancy. See, it's a pretty good. It's right. And he's still the all time. Career leader is Jordan. Mathews those three years in Philadelphia were they were great, but they were pretty good, right. And guess who fell in love with Jordan Mathews who loved him like a brother was walk into your got Carson Wentz. He loved him some Jordan Mathews and they traded Jordan Mathews straight up for Ronald Darby who's a really good player so that that shows you that buffalo really valued Jordan Mathews that he He was. was. That's that's pretty. That's eighty. Trae they needed receiver they had let wilder would grow in said, we walk and go market Goodwin was gong. Yeah, so they need. They need Darby's a first round talent. Yeah, he's a, he's a playmaking top to your cornerback and so they value Jordan. He's in buffalo, right? And Carson Wentz was devastated and told the Philadelphia media..
