"I'll tell you what i liked though dub dub dub the week one of the pigs of belief is our boy bill bell jack Gets miami One of the things you've heard this podcast is offensive line. We've got a top five verse a- bottom five when it comes to offensive line's top five clearly the patriots so back jones while plenty of time back there which is gonna help rookie quarterback unfortunately of has got a bottom five and the patriots gonna have a top three defense in the nfl this year and like we said big. Bill had all summer to plan for this. We just dinking dunkin. You know with mac. I mean they're not going to throw downfield too much probably and then you know the piling on the run game two. I'm sure those tight ends that they spend one hundred mil. We'll get factored in usually. You'll notice that with rookie. Quarterback's tight end place huge. Just the guy in the middle. Just sit down at five or ten yards. He always gets little off us. Yeah i mean. I think i told you. Preseason max average was like a seven yards per passive that he. He's not airing it out. That's not extremely bad. I mean to give you an indication big band. Last year was five. Point five leave. Banged up well what you want. But i mean giving up three points at home with the patriots. We listened. tom's not there anymore. I get it but that's not an easy place to come in. So we'll take the patriots minus the three. They're much bill all right okay. There's one more. I think i mentioned this couple of weeks ago. The raiders. I think are going to bring it this year. They're getting far and a half in the new stadium. So is that your best bet. This week i'll take the rates. Yeah so i'm not fully against that i do. I mean you know the first game at the new stadium. I mean how pump today going to be. The only thing is remember how much we thought they'd be pumped playing the last game at the coliseum and they lost that game so that's the only thing but i mean it was marshawn lynch running back for that one dad's true they weren't rocket martin. Marshawn lynch point or fifteen point zero with the extra fifteen on it well fat or just i mean how many retirement city come out. I got shit but listen david car. You know i've always had david's back guys. Been in a shitty situation all the time so i do think he's underrated four and a half. I mean if i had to take a team there i would go with you in the rates but you know lamar is a joker and they they they do have the better team but four and a half on the road week one. That's a bit of points and national. It's on the tube because it's monday night. let's do it. Yeah it'll be a good game and they lost Dobbins you know should have plenty to plug in. That's a big loss. That's true that's true. 'cause lamar lamar doesn't blow me away with the accuracy and stuff. Obviously no i mean. He's no one says he got. No i know i just i just. I don't like to trust him so there's the same you can't stop care catch. We got him contain. No one can catch that guy carbines someone else..

"Helped by john. Red eye monster ready to crush five fly in the megastar and now all you need to do now is isolate. The grave digger vocal there. And there you go. There's the drop we talked about from earlier this week. All right good all right. let's get into it. Oh that's tricky. bill belichick He makes a move. Nobody saw coming releasing the patriots released cam newton their quarterback the starter that they resigned in the off season then they drafted mack. Jones of course in the first round and the two players are trading team and going through the whole process through the summer but at the end of the day. Bill bell jack decides. The future is now mack. Jones will begin the season as the starter. Qb one and cam. Newton almost unbelievably only a handful of years removed from being. Mvp in the league in one of the great dual threat quarterbacks. The league's ever seen on the eve of week. One in twenty twenty one. He is out of work. Greg when you saw this pop up on your phone or wherever Were you shocked. Take me through it as a pats fan. I mean i had mixed feelings. I was surprised. He's not on the team. I am not i. Wasn't that surprised that matt jones is the starter. 'cause i've been believing in tom. Curren who watched them every day and thought it was decisive in practice. And i watch the preseason. It's you know. It's one of the best rookie quarterback breezy i've ever. Pf has it has the best rookie quarterback. They've ever graded so that part of it. We're mack jones wins. The job doesn't shock me. But the fact that brian heuer's one snap away does a little bit fried hoyer still in that building. Isn't he like fifty years old at this point like honestly listen. Shook another nice bald guy. Out of cleveland but come on. Can we calm down a little bit. Yeah i was going to say that's a front to to baltimore and especially northeast. Ohio natives who are bald but go ahead and i think i think it does fit though. Don't you think greg like if you have to go from mack jones to somebody else. Wouldn't you prefer to go to the scaling not to do with it. I think i'm guessing we're taping this so soon after my guesses either mutual or that cam newton gave the you know hey. Do you want us to cut you now. In that cam newton would rather go back up dak prescott maybe russell wilson but i kind of expect cam newton to be on the cowboys because it just makes too much sense for everyone then he really wants to go back up a rookie quarterback and that bell check also might have the feeling that i've been gassing this guy up as one of the great leader's i've ever been around. He's got a lot of people who love him on this team. That i don't think cam newton is going to be a problem but that it's it's almost a mixed message here if this guy is our backup and he has so many people who who kind of follow him. Let's make let's make a clean break of it and by the way you know he's not vaccinated so all right now let's hit that. I was gonna hit that a little later but since you brought it up bill. Belichick is a man as we know who he's material. He's someone who doesn't buy into excuses. He's a man who will send you home if you're late for a practice during a blizzard outside. He's done it. That's this type of that. Bill does do you think that all can we connect the dots here. That in the middle of this heated battle for the job cam disappears with the excused absence tied to the krona virus. Mix up that bill check. Could've said you know what that's the straw that breaks the camel's back a move and on i don't put a pass them just going to say it. I mean they've run into the situation a year ago. They had to go to brian. Hoyer in key early game the kind of started a slide. Why would they put themselves in a position where they could potentially deal with that again. Is the backup in. that proposed. Scenario cam is your starter in the back of his magazi- better than brian hoyer. Yeah but ultimately. You're still facing the possibility of losing one or multiple quarterbacks regular season. Why run through that exercise again for me once. Shame on me you know so on. And so forth so yeah. I think that has undoubtedly hassle me to do with it. Even if you could say well everything else. They just said which i totally agree with. It's got to play tomorrow about jones's play like that. The starting point like they. It wouldn't happen in les. Jones didn't exceed. Some expectations didn't play. Great and camp didn't play great in the preseason but yeah i think it's absolutely possible dan that that was kind of the thing that put it over the top because it also gave jones a number of snaps in those joint practices which belshazzar takes very seriously always says that's as important or more important than the preseason game. Everyone said that mack jones had the best day of his entire training camp against the giants in that second day of the or the first day of their joint practices that he just lit it up. And then you look at like the way they were playing time in in in the games like mack jones played a lot. Didn't play a lot with the starters. But he played a lot and they got to look at him a lot. And if it's that close. And if mack jones was better in practice for the most part i it does it does make sense that the part just as a fan that that bugs me is. You had one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league whether it was mack jones or your cam newton and now you have one of the worst. So i've heard some buzz that's like well. They're actually higher on jarrett stidham than they used to be and he's going to recover from the back he's i think he's going to. I are either short term are or pup. We haven't heard yet because he he's coming off a back surgery but that he'll be back at some point and he'll be the backup but i don't know the patriots are better with cam newton and mack jones and the roster that everybody can agree with that. So there's more to it. And it..

"Like the jets and the giants that have suspend travel for their scouts the NFL suspended Prodi's at colleges and universities across the country and all in person pre draft visits but overall the NFL is still relatively unaffected what is the potential impact of not being able to have pro days in in person pre draft visits again the fringe athlete that doesn't get the exposure to showcase his talent in front of scouts so now NFL scouts talent evaluators and stake holders are going to have to like in the quote unquote old days scour over game film to evaluate their personnel I think Adam guru isn't able to evaluate talent if it smacked him across the face but I think that the jets which Douglas are in great shape I think that the giants would Joe judge an offshoot and confidante a bill bell Jack are also in great shape how many guys have been make or break an in person meeting I really don't know but from a logical perspective if the organization cares enough to bring a player in wouldn't that signify that they are really interested we also have technology at our disposal nowadays I know it's not the quote unquote best substitution for in person contact believe me I'm a teacher I'm set to do digital distance learning for the next two weeks at least at minimum it's not the best situation but we do the best we can at eleven fifty nine eastern just two hours ago NFL Players Association has collected all votes from its players regarding the new collective bargaining agreement and for it's also worth I reach out to the NFL Players Association for someone to come on my show tonight to comment about that CBA they responded quickly and politely by telling me to check back in a few weeks time so for you all I will and then there's free agency Tom Brady needs to be the first domino to fall free agency for the first time literally in his entire career Tom Brady will be able to test the free agency waters in the year two thousand the number one song was briefed by Faith Hill the Motorola razr was most popular phone I had a black one up so cool you popped up all of your callers which means you had more than one polo shirt on and when apple computers came in five different colors society has evolved since then and so if sports contracts so will Brady returned to the New England Patriots I told you weeks ago from the night of the fight in UFC fight in Las Vegas the Tom Brady was going to be a writer there are now rumblings that their car is on the trading block apparently thirty one control over the roster and play calling Dianna Russini reported on Thursday that the Buccaneers are willing to give it to him will Tom Brady twelve have a new moniker in twenty twenty T. B. Tampa Bay twelve and if he doesn't decide on New England you're going to see a mass exit is apparently that roster it will be a sinking ship I have a complete game plan also tonight on what the jets and giants should do on draft day and in free agency I also have a couple names for you in sequential order you know me in my research of the top talent in this year's draft including a defensive lineman that not one person I've heard talk about also in case you missed it news Rick Pitino is officially the head coach of the area Iona Gaels after Tim Cluess has stepped down citing health issues I think it's a touching those sort of move and we can talk about that as well and I always wrap up my monologues with the countdown to baseball action as you know we've counted down from like seventy five days until pitchers and catchers pitchers and catchers and now we really don't know in baseball will be back I will I just want to get this couple seconds wish Godspeed to the doctors nurses medical staff and first responders that are possibly taking on extra shifts night amidst the pandemic and it might be tuning into my program right now and to the teachers that are still expected to be in their classrooms on Monday including those right here in New York City you should be teaching from home like many of us New Jersey will be okay we have a full phone lines eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six Mr hit notes after this quick little break everything's on the table can't wait to talk with you guys I'm Jim Cornette to midnight on the fan.

"The Peleton. Add with the scared lady. The scared lady they made back mercy go away. This is not working works and we make the Baker Mayfield commercials. Go Away in in place of this one. At least that's gotta be coming to a close all right. Let's move on halftime over. What a spirited halftime it was a lot for J. Lo and Shakira to try to live up to the blow to have as many fireworks as as ours all right? Let's get into it the titans. Oh the titans. Eleven and seven you add their two playoff wins to have closed close their season five in a row now go even further back than that nine out of eleven. That's pretty good. They're one of the best teams in the League. Now everything's different now. But guess what they go to Casey and wes the chiefs just reminded everybody. Ah what they are capable of when they get hot and they are hosting and they've I imagine feel like if we could do it. We did the Houston. We could do the same thing link to another. AFC South team absolutely this. This team has blue chip players out there ear patching mahomes tyreek Hill Travis. Kelsey Chris Jones when he's healthy we don't know honey badger the way he's played the last two months all blue chip players in tight inside. You've got Derrick Henry. Maybe maybe Kevin Beore Drill Casey. Jeffrey Simmons I think those guys are more red than blue chip. Jack Conklin maybe right tackle right Taylor Lewan on wretched guys. I I think the talent edge goes to Kansas City but the reason why they could get banged in a big spot. Oh this is his three years in the making for the titans they had visions. They had dreams. They had an analytics driven attack. Plan to get big and push small teams teams around and this is as Greg would say styles make fights power versus speed as much as it could be titans power. We're talking Henry an offensive points of line. That is mulling people drill casing. Jonathan Simmons Shutting Down Short yardage was Sean Evans becoming a star Linebacker and riot tannahill hill running over people at the sticks and at the goal line. You cannot forget his power when we talk about this this to me their identity. This is a titans identity identity that they've developed over the three years they are Bella. Check team they are every they could have drafted Michael Hartmann speed they wanted. Aj Brown's physicality They could have drafted. Evan Ingram speed. They want to John Who Smith physicality they could have drafted a wide receiver like Dj. More Calvin Ridley. They wanted Sean Evans for his physicality in the middle of the defense they have all lease belichick patriots connections. Patrick Mahomes is three and four in his career including the playoffs against the Belichick coaching tree and twenty three and four and all other games. James Wow I think this comes down to Henry versus honey Henry versus honey badger one on one in the red zone with the game on the line who wins and and I think think it's Derrick Henry And Honey Badger getting a lot of love this week for a plan. An excellent game last week including a one play where he made the had like a triple read made every right guess on the spur the primary receiver the secondary receiver covering the ball and then chased the quarterback out of bounds That is speak honey. Badger right there. I think the titans probably look honey. Badger who's maybe the key guy in their defense with Chris. Jones missing practice again which is a just stay massive loss for them if he doesn't play and it's trending that way that he's well by the way to Henry ran all over Chris Jones in the daily they ran pretty well against them Before but it makes it so that they can attack the chiefs weakness which is certainly run defense all season and I think we're honey. Badger comes into play. Play is a little bit like earl. Thomas came into play last week girl. Thomas played a really good game. Overall made a bunch of places all over the field but he was victimized on that Khalif Raymond touchdown where he came forward for the play action. He bit pretty hard. You got totally out of position to the point where you didn't even see him on that play on the TV copy but his aggressiveness. His plane hunches. which is what? Honey Badger does exceedingly. Well knowing what the defense the offense is GonNa do before they do it. I think the titans have the most dangerous play action game in the NFL and they just haven't had to use it in the playoffs. That that much and I think they'll use it and I think they could victim victimized not only honey badger but Sorensen and. I think you'll see more of it this week because I think Mike variable like Bill Bell Jack knows does yes. Styles make fights but you got to adapt to the game. You're in and I don't think he's GonNa be thinking his defense can stop the chiefs. He certainly didn't. I didn't think that back in week. Ten and he was right. I mean this team to put your point that this.

"W. Oh. What cash? Rocky? First of all, your reaction, better team. Who do you guy patriots vs warriors who wins in what we plan best not the questionable who wins warriors versus patriots. The two greatest teams this century in sport. What's considering, you know, the patriots have a roster of fifty three in the warriors have a roster of what like ten. Yes. Because imagine the wide receivers the defensive backs for the patriots. They're pretty good. They, they could cover the warriors. Now, the best five athletes on the warriors would beat the best five athletes on the patriots and pretty much anything. I think the ba- I think professional basketball players are the most phenomenal singular. Most phenomenal athletes on the planet. Maybe them are golfers. Yes. I'm John Daly. John Daly, someone like. With the cart. What is what is more impressive? The patriots dynasty or the warriors the patriots because what the warriors you can ride that three or four players for like ten years. But the patriots reload every the patriots last fifteen years have gotten worse players every draft in the Bengals every draft. They get the worst players for the last eighteen years. Greg, every driver, not one time have the Bengals got better players. But every year, the patriots have a much better team than the Bengals why. Because they have the master which Bill Belichick. I just couldn't even read his biography is amazing just the attention to detail is scout. His dad was a longtime scowl was goes at navy and was just knew the game of football. He learned from his dad from, like age five on these still nation. Yes. What happened? Yeah. I like that. And McClelland Brown's the last game, the Bengals played in Cleveland I go to that game with Andy Furman and we're behind Cleveland miserable court. And there is Bill bell Jack I sent them in, we're talking to guy walks up, is that it's Nick Sabin. Plus it on. What's your name, Nick Sabin nice to meet, you Saigon assistant, line coach? So the Cleveland Browns had Bill ballot check and Nick Sabin. They fired them. Oop Art Modell, we don't want somebody you little bit flashier a little more. We don't want him. Modell wasn't a football guy. He was kind of a advertising advertising, guys. But how do you fire Bill Belichick and Nick Sabin stupid? Very poor decision by thanks,.

"Tom Brady leads the patriots to their third straight Super Bowl against a young team with quarterback Jared. Golf, and the Rams you've got the Super Bowl today team B Phil coach Nate and boomer cover every angle before kickoff with coverage beginning at two o'clock eastern. That's eleven AM Pacific Sunday on CBS Ida chance to introduce myself to J James Brown. He's a big guy. But so kind almost like a teddy bear he actually gave me a hug by the time. We were done talking. So just a quick three four minute conversation. He introduced me to his niece who shepherding him around radio row on Thursday, and I had come in close contact with him before. But never taken the chance to introduce myself. And so it was really neat to meet him. And as they said, he was very gracious as he always says he's known for that kindness that grace dignity. So is neat to spend a couple of minutes. Talking to j b now Tom Brady Bill Belichick Jared Goff. Sean McVeigh every single day making comments to the media. So it's the first time for golf and McVay. But of course, it's the ninth time. Time for Brady and Bella check. And sometimes I think they've got to be tired of answering the same questions over and over and over again. There are worse problems to have has an NFL player. Right. So Tom Brady was asked about the relationship with Bella. Check a ton in the last couple of weeks in Iraq for the entire season because of the reported turmoil going back to last year. He has been a few sieve in his praise with coach Bela check and has talked about how they're the big reason why they are continuing to reach the Super Bowl. By just talk with my friend. You know, how I see the game now versus how it used to see it and. You know, so much of it is coach Bela checks influence on me as well as you know, what coach ballot. Check Josh mcdaniels who have worked with for so long, and it's just such a great advantage for me as a young player. There's no other reason to play this game other than to go on to win. So we always do that in every game. We treat every game that way, but certainly this game with the there's only, you know, I don't know call eight hundred fifty eight hundred sixty plays left in our season. So we need for all those plays to be our best players, and that's over. We're trying to do. You couldn't have more to contrasting personalities than Tom Brady and Bill Belichick and Brady is talked about how they've met twice a week every year for nineteen seasons and that their relationship is a challenging one. But it's made him a better player. And of course, the stable Bill bell, Jack. I don't know that he's changed a whole lot this presentation to the media. Of course, he's changed and morphed as a coach, but we don't get to see the few save. We don't get to see these smiley. We don't get to see the. The jovial Bill bell Jack very often every now and then though. No. It's after hours here on CBS sports radio. You know, what I found with Tom Brady is that he's more reflective this year. He's not retiring. He said there's zero chance that his last game will be Sunday. But more people ask him about the perspective. And what this is like for him and getting back here, and you can tell that he's not taking this for granted. I've been you know, just beyond blessed said that so many times of being. Just think when you've been in the position I've been in count your blessings every day. Tom Brady Bill Bella check, the dynamic duo in their ninth Super Bowl and their third consecutive coming up on Sunday against a new challenger in the Los Angeles Rams, and it's obvious when you hear coach McVay and Jared Goff speak about the to complete opposite ends of the spectrum. They represent in the Rams and the patriots, of course, who've been there done that. But the idea that Sean McVeigh has brought the Rams at this point. So quickly cannot be overlooked. I mean, Sean McVay is bright offense of mind to be sure. But he's also the leader of that group of guys. And while he has veteran coaches and players around him the fact that he's gotten there so quickly. I think speaks highly to the way that he's able to organize and motivates and lead and also adjust right because the NFL requires flexibility it requires. Making judgments on the fly and we've seen that from coach McVeigh, and we also see it with his young quarterback Jared Goff. Why we've been able to have some success over the last couple of years is is really truly a team effort. Got a great coaching staff guys that I can lean on to us for perspective and advice on things that I just haven't been through. We've got great players, and I just think that continuity with everybody pushed in the same direction being able to handle the good and the bad. With a consistent mindset mentality has been instrumental in in some of our success that type of stuff.

A lot of playoff games. What? Free three NFC championship games. You thirteen years. It's it's a hard. It's a hard to get to. That's for sure. And so we take that for granted hoping to make his second Super Bowl appearance. Standing in his way, the Rams defense led by all pro Aaron Donald gives a great quarterback like that. Get that's like some LeBron James calf Tyke, Brian. Vinyl? Eight NBA final type stuff. It. In Belgium that to that. He's just whoever whoever the other guy is doesn't matter. The other guy could be really as a McKesson. Thank you. So or twelve game they won the division with Matt castle who went to a handful of other teams and couldn't play dead and they want a lesson games with him in New England. That's how that's how good of a coach Bill bell. Jack is but they're also three and four in the road and the plows and they're going on the road. So as good if they are at home, and obviously they play a lot of home games when a given the road unless like a fifty fifty tossup, I think Kansas City, I think has should beat them. But. It's a situation where you can't count them out three and four on the road, all his cute. But you cannot count them out. They shown you too many times when you decided to count him out. He they come right. I agree Super Bowl. We see. We hanging out. They Dale second half. I'm like, oh, yeah. They win this guy. Why are they so different on the road though? I mean because you figured Tom Brady's Tom Brady Bill Bill bell check, whether you're in Foxborough or anywhere else. Yet this season. They didn't lose at home and on the road there pretty pretty average. Yeah. But, but, but you know, home teams wing home games split on a road win home games. And you'll be fine in that's pretty much what they did. And I think when you look at it. That's why teams want to have home field advantage. That's why they fight to have home. If they didn't need home for the vantage is go out there and play in the back door into the playoffs every year, and it wouldn't matter they'd be on the road consistently. They're not built for the role their built a home. They're built a win win over and over and over the last two kind of Murray has a decision to make money or get into that. Plus call coming up next..

"They're left tackle that. They basically coaxed out of retirement over in San Francisco over there to be large and in charge on the left side of their line. Rob gronkowski looked healthier than we had seen in a while. And you heard him in the bump back there. But as gronk said, even he gets a chance to enjoy this one the game is over and you haven't started preparing for next week it. So he thought right now about that. My thoughts about right now. Then I'm gonna have to enjoy the win. That's what we do. You get one night to enjoy the win actually around here, you do you get one night? And then when you wake up tomorrow morning, and it's on the Kansas City. So get a couple of hours. So I'll be doing that. And then I'll be thinking about next week. And while that's the fun sound that we get to hear because we know the way gronk enjoys games. And so you have to imagine the way the gronk enjoys wins matches that in a way that terrifies Bill bell Jack a bit considering Bronx physical state for most of the season. But no, no, no, it's it's what Tom Brady told you after the game yesterday that should scare the ever loving hell out of you. It's the thing like everything about the patriots threatens to render the rest of the NFL season meaningless. Unstoppable force will come in a raise everything at the end of this. That is what the patriots truly threatened to be. This is season eight of game of thrones. And the patriots are at the helm Tom Brady is the night king. And when he stood up yesterday at the end of the game and said, well, people think we stink. And don't think that we can win any games. So we'll see what happens that was the window into his soul you needed. This is a slighted patriot outfit. They're a patriot outfit. The despite canceling the noise better than any team. Here's everything that you were saying about them, and they're mad and that scares the hell out of me first. And last the podcast indeed knows finding the right hire takes time away from.

"One two four two two seven. We're gonna talk Cuyler Murray in about twenty minutes. Some baseball news. News rumor, innuendo, whatever it's breaking before that though. And like I said for this hour, and this hour only I am broadcasting on my home station, also six seventy the score here in Chicago, and Jeff passan reporting and Hector Gomez also putting some numbers on the deal that the White Sox have officially offered Manny Machado in eight year two hundred and fifty million dollar contract. The Philadelphia Phillies still involved it's reportedly down to just those two teams. The White Sox in the Phillies. Bob Nightingale from USA today. Earlier had reported that the Phillies see themselves as the favorites for Bryce Harper. And it's still we're considering going after both. But after a five hour meeting with Bryce Harper. They think that they're going to be able to walk down the right fielder, and in theory that takes them out of the running even though they're going to still try, but White Sox could be seem like they are the favor. For Manny Machado, and that would be monumental for a ton of reasons. He's an awesome player. He's a polarizing player. They signed his brother-in-law yonder Alonzo and one of his best friends in John J so it would be a truly unconventional recruiting pitch for professional sport signing. He also. Would have a legitimate claim to being underpaid. If that's actually what they get him for eight years two hundred and fifty million bucks. If that's what Manny Machado signs with the White Sox for it would be a historic signing for the White Sox their previous largest contract ever is sixty eight million bucks to Jose Abreu. So you'd be talking about nearly two hundred million dollars more than the previous highest contract in franchise history. So on a local level, it would be a remarkable accomplishment and their front office and ownership group should be applauded locally and nationally. But. There's a really interesting story going on with wage suppression in baseball because all the tapping into baseball. Revenues is going up up up up TV up. Bam TEK media up franchise value up. Everything's just going up. Yet last year's free agency, really weird. This year's free agency, really slow. If you think back to what our pool signed his contract for what Miguel Cabrera signed his contract for those guys have contracts that runs through their age forty season. You could say it's just baseball teams smartening up. Everyone doesn't smart enough at the same time and. Fans. I like my team being smart. Okay. Cool. But they're not you want them to spend the money that they're making on the players and try to win baseball. It's got a little bit of a problem with too few teams trying to win and all that happens. It's not they pay the money back to the fans like ticket prices, go down the ticket prices go up but owner's pocket more money because they spend a smaller percentage of their raising revenues on payroll, and they convince you that it's okay to not try to win and not trying to win for a period of time is smart for rebuilding. But then when it's time to win you damn well, better spend the money. So if they sign Manny Machado at twenty six years old to a two hundred and fifty million dollar deal and the last season of it is when he's thirty four years old. Honestly, that's a bargain. That's a hell of a story. I really really hope it happens. But that is a that is a fascinating fascinating development. And we could be living in a very weird world where? Somehow some way Manny Machado is underpaid at two hundred and fifty million which by all accounts, obviously, a lot of money, but speaking of a lot of money, I said before the break I wanted to get into the motivational story that went viral in the NFL over the weekend. And then we'll get back to your NFL calls at eight five five two one two four CBS before we take a little departure and talk Cuyler Murray Heisman Trophy winner. Who today? Monday, Monday on the east coast has to make a decision on whether or not he is or is not going to enter into the NFL draft the Heisman Trophy winner. Who also was a top ten pick from the Oakland A's and got a five million dollar signing bonus that he'd have to be give back if forgoes baseball and heads into the NFL, but we'll get to that story in a little bit. Sean Payton to motivate his team. Had armed guards bring in the Lombardi trophy from the last time the saints won the Super Bowl. A Super Bowl ring from the last time. The saints won the Super Bowl and two hundred twenty five thousand dollars in cash which would be the player share. If the saints win today, which they did next week where they host the Rams, and then obviously the Super Bowl and three playoff games playoff share, two hundred twenty five thousand bucks and Ian Rapoport from NFL network had the picture, and when you see the picture of two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars in cash there's a few things to stick out to you one is all my God. That's a lot of cash was like, I there's millions. But then you zoom in a little bit. And you see those are all singles. Sean Payton did not want to get hundreds because that would be only air quotes two thousand two hundred and fifty one hundred dollar bills while we'd all take it. And that would be the most. Economic way if you will to get two hundred twenty five Jesus in cash with hundreds Sean Payton was going for the wild factor. So he got two hundred and twenty-five thousand George Washington's two hundred and twenty five thousand singles, and because social media can hate everything and anything that's not really two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars yet was that's not that impressive. It looks kind of cool if you are well, actually and. Yeah. Budding two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars in cash because it's in singles, you're a special kind of hater. And how about the fact that if they actually paid out the player shares, and this isn't how it works. But if they actually played out the player shares in cash, and they did it on the spot. Right. Neither of those things happen. It happens in direct deposit. It happens after the fact, and it doesn't happen in the host city, but the super bowl's in Atlanta. Magic city. King Diamond's argue with the strip club capital of the world you give. Those and then they leave Atlanta, and they fly back to bourbon street and New Orleans if the saints win the Super Bowl, and you gave them their player share in cash. None of them would have any of the money back. I mean, they put a wide a nice young ladies through college. And support a lot of people be. It'd be talking about trickle down economics. That would be that'd be unbelievable economic stimulus plan. If you know what I mean, but two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars in singles in Atlanta is a dangerous place. That's like that can go a long way but can go away quickly zone. Sanso? Sean Payton, be careful. Get two hundred twenty five thousand dollars in singles to a team that might be going to Atlanta. But I was thinking of. How happy the CBS executives are that they'll get to parade Tony Romo and Jim Nance in front of a hundred million plus Super Bowl audience, and these are the potential matchups. Chiefs saints keeps. Rams patriots. Saints patriots rounds? There's no bad Super Bowl. There is no bad. Matthew. Now, I personally. In terms of what I'm rooting for based on interest level, not any sort of gambling or fandom though. I do I will admit that. I do have somewhat personal connection worked in Kansas City for six years covered the chiefs. My mom's family is from Kansas City. So a lot of lifelong chiefs fans in around my family and friends, I do have a personal connection to the chiefs. I'm also rooting for them because they're just much more fun than the patriots. So to me, the least interesting match up the the match that I have the least interest in for the Super Bowl is patriots. Rams. Because if it's patriots Rams, I feel like the coolest story storyline for the game is Bill bell Jack against Sean McVay the to coaching wizards, which listen, I'm here for their two of the top four scoring teams in the NFL you'd get Brady going for six Super Bowls. You'd have the prolonging of the dynasty. You'd have. Best coach in history of the sport against the coach. You seems to be poised to be the neck the best coach for the next generation. Like, Sean McVay is poised to be the next best coach in the NFL. I think right now the ranking goes Bill bell, Jack one Andy Reid to Sean McVay three which is why it's really cool that all three of them. Plus, Sean Payton are still alive for championship Sunday. But patriots Rams to me. The best story lines are on the sidelines and not necessarily on the field. That's it's still really good onfield match up. So that to me, it'd be the quote unquote worst, even though it's still a great Super Bowl matchup. Patriots. Saints would feel like a little bit of a throwback to me. It'd be about the old quarterbacks. It'd be about the old coaches breeze going for a second Brady going for a sixth guys, you know, in their late thirties early forties. It would feel even though we hadn't seen that exact thing before in terms of a match up. It would feel like we had seen it before. It'd be great. It would do a huge number. I'm here for I'm here for all of this. Obviously, it's the damn Super Bowl. But. The the matchups with the patriots do the least for me for both of those reasons. The game. I would like to see second. Most is the game that I think the country probably wants to see more than anything else. My guess is if I did this as a poll question. Chiefs Rams is the game that most people want to see because fifty four fifty one Monday night football was an instant classic a crazy game these singular memorable game of this NFL season and running that back would be wildly entertaining. And it would be amazing. And obviously, I agree with all of that. It would be incredible. The only reason I like chief saints more. Is because it would to me it has the biggest like heavyweight title fight feel to it. It has both one seeds. The top two MVP's. And and this is the thing that I'm the most interested in while the AFC NFC championship are both rematches and they're both rematches of top five games of this season. Right patriots. Chiefs. Chiefs lost in Foxborough, Mahomes, hung forty on the patriots at Gillette, but lost crazy. Classic game. Forty five thirty five was saints. Rams saints gave the Rams their first loss of the season. Got down early came all the way back saints held on awesome game. Chiefs. Saints would be the best offensive matchup that we haven't seen. We've seen chiefs patriots. We've seen chiefs Rams like we've seen those games before. Seeing a game that we hadn't seen before this season with the two one seeds with Andy Reid going for his first Super Bowl with the top two MVP's with the drew Brees legacy debate the breeze legacy debate. If you get the second ring will be fascinating because I've always said that drew Brees is Dan Marino with a ring. But what if Dan Marino gets too? What if breeze gets the say, no one's got more passing yards finished with more touchdowns. And I got two rings. Why am I not in the conversation for greatest of all time? I know Brady has the five and he's got that claim for awhile. And we all watched it happen. But. Brees has a shot at the counting stats and to add a second ring to it. So. To me. Chiefs saints is the best Super Bowl matchup that we could get. That's the one that. I'm most excited for. I said I was pumped to be on Chicago for this hour, even if we're not talking about it. I'll take a call from my guy can. Don't know you. But I appreciate you calling The Danny Parkin she on CBS sports radio. What do you think? Hey, Danny first of all, I the regular listener of yours on WNYC are here in Chicago. And I want to congratulate you on getting this national gig. You certainly deserve it. And boy what a great show tonight. We'll thank you, sir. I appreciate you in your opinion from following the bears and seeing their place place kicker issues. What would you assess the probability percentage wise of the bears making an offer to Robbie goal? What are you saying? Fifty fifty. I mean, I think it makes all the sense in the world. He's made eighty three to eighty six kicks since the bears. Let him go. Obviously, Cody parkey was a disaster. He was in attendance. It'd be a great story book. But.

"Thirty minutes to play with the Los Angeles chargers sideline right now every single guy with the thousand yard stare. Normally you can find a captain a player trying to fire the guys up. Nobody all they're interested in is the heated bench. They can't seem to get out of here. Quick enough to the halftime. But yeah, when it's cold, it feels even colder when you're down big on the scoreboard. And the chargers are down big thirty five to seven patriots looking for more dump off to James white left side, white gets back to the line of scrimmage. That's it. Walk down by me vein. No gain on the play forty seconds to go first half. That's a good job of me being read the screen and making that boy, otherwise white has a lot of room three receivers. Right. One to the left. Three. Takes the snap out of the gun. Tosses to endelman for a first down along the numbers of a forty yard line at a time out called which one thousand six seconds left. That's a twelve yard hookup Brady to settlement. Again, and again, and again, remember the demise of the patriot. When was that? This is unbelievable. It's. We said it coming in as long as Tom Brady and Bill bell, Jack together, they're going to be tough to be. You don't count. You. Don't wanna play them in Foxborough. Right now this chargers team. I thought was the better football team all around. And I thought I thought it'd be back at forth Gary close they are getting overwhelmed right now. This is not been a test. Not even quote for New England. Seven catches a hundred seven yards for Eshelman in the first half. Shotgun for Brady on first and ten he hits white on the left side white gets out of bounds across the thirty-five picks up a couple they're trying to get Gus cow.

"Goodness. Clay Travis is back at it. Again. Did you hear this? Outkick the coverage thinking about these NFL coaching hires and the difference between the Bill valid check NFL and the Sean McVay NFL forever. Everybody wanted the next Bill bell Jack dumpy sour hoodie wearing grumbling. Not for genetic defensive guru. Matt Patricia is a perfect example of it weird looking beard got the pencil behind his ear. And then you got the cliff Kingsbury, Sean McVeigh towel Shanahan fat leflore class on the offensive side of the ball and everybody now wants to the next Sean McVeigh. What's fascinating about it too. Is it's almost a wild cultural thing about offensive football. The guys who have ended up embracing offense. Football are young good looking tell genetic. They smile a lot. They look happy on the sidelines defensive coaches in the Bella check mole, always look angry. They got the hoodie y'all and they got the map Patricia ugly beard. It's kind of an interesting cultural contrast, isn't it? Yong well-presented telegenic modern offense if football against the Bill ballot. Check drag you down into the blood and fight with you ugly. Dude. And for a long time. Everybody wanted valid check. We ran through the coaching tree, and it just didn't work, right? The best way to get genius.

"But I want to ask you this do I mean, there's there's a sitting on the outside and saying man, would it be interesting to see what Kyla Murray could do in the NFL? But no what if you're the GM are you actually making that pick number one overall number two overall trading up number five number four and picking a five foot seven quarterback. I don't care if you're college quarterback coach coached quarterbacks. Well, in college, this is the NFL, and while the NFL is leaning a little more to the college style in some cases, still five seven the guy can run like crazy, but he's got to deal with NFL defenses. Great if you're a fan, if you're a GM you pulling the trigger on that one. You know, that's interesting. I would need Mike. It's a great question. I would need to get I would need to get some level of comfort as much as I can get a guaranteed some insurance that Kyle Murray is not using this as leverage against major league. Let's take it out. Take it out say he's choosing. All right. He is all in on football. He's done with baseball. You still doing you're gonna take him in the top three picks three picks his raft? Yeah. I would especially in a draft where you know. It's not quarterback rich where there's not a ton of quarterbacks. I would take Mike. I've said this to you before I'll say it again, I take a quarterback every single year until I get it. Right. And if they don't they got it right with Josh Rosen. And yes, I would take author Murray would be with the first Bank with the top the repack. I absolutely would. I don't know how good he is going to be a lot of people think that he's gonna be great and the head coach to the cardinals thinks he's gonna be great. But yes, I would do that. Because you got to get that position. Right. All this coaching stuff is funny. It's what I said on the front end. None of that really matters to me. If your quarterback is good you're going to be a great coach. If your quarterback is it. You're not going to be a great coach Bill bell Jack there. It is. That's the point. I mean, the whole conceptual ideas. Great was we have Josh we have Cuyler will take him both, and maybe some little trade for Josh. And that's great. But still got you have to be convinced that you're okay with Murray again, no one under six feet has ever been drafted in the first round Baker sort of qualified at six feet. Right there. Yeah. But no there's been no one under six feet ever taken in the first round. And I get it. I get it. They think he can do all these things, but he is significantly under six feet. Now. I understand that. But like today's NFL I get all that guys get the size issues. I get it all but in today's NFL with the rules of changing to barely touch the quarterback. And it is shifting a lot of people. Don't think lavar Jackson was going to be very good. And he was good, Mike. He's just a great athlete. He's got a big arm. He's a great athlete. He could run it. Today's NFL don't you think if there was ever a time where guy like Tyler Murray? Concede a quarterback, isn't it right now? Like, yes. Oh that part. I agree with you. But we are so testing the parameters of a quarterback that short. I could not give a first a high pick for. I maybe call me say, okay, you're afraid to do it. Yeah. I probably wouldn't do it. And I don't need to see him in a combine. I don't need to see him. What I do need to get as I need. To do that. But I going off his plays wonderful to watch play. I just don't know if that translates to the NFL and to the NFL now is where we're gonna go as we try and catch up with our.

"I would say that Adam gays has gone to pick his his coaches he knows who he wants. And quite frankly, they did go to the Super Bowl his first Super Bowl the playoffs his first year in Miami. And they had all sorts of injuries all sorts of problems. They were building the team. And you know, I I don't know. I just think that this is an intriguing pick for me. It's I'm not I'm not overly positive about it. But I'm certainly not negative about it. Yeah. I met good. The only reason that I would be any sort of negative towards this is how he comes off with the media. And who if they win who cares how he comes off with that doesn't matter. It's just put the problem is if someone if he doesn't get off to a good start here and the reaction the jets fans had. Talk. I know what I'm saying is there's there's guys that you feel like can get through the fire. Pretty well. There's guys that can put gasoline on a fire, and you don't want Adam gates to be that guy. Who is who is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time who is the one of the most studious prepared, well, conditioned sure, you're gonna go Peyton Manning with us right here. So when Peyton Manning speaks to the owner, and that's something that that I'm saying that the owner told me I'm just telling this what I'm reading that many did. In fact, talk to Christopher Johnson. I can only imagine what that conversation was about. But I also told you yesterday that if they do go this route. What would we hear about we were here about the paint, MandA Peyton Manning camouflage endorsement and propaganda? Yeah. So that's what we're hearing. This. This is where it's coming from. And I always felt that Peyton Manning was set the bar at a whole new mental level for quarterbacks. I thought I was a part of that with the know how to LA Pence and all that other stuff. But listening to the legendary background of one Peyton Manning. And the way that he would prepare for games in the fact that my buddy Frank Reich coached him and told me the same thing that Adam gates will probably tell you that this is a world in which, you know, Adam gates grow up, and he knows no other the other way other than to prepare and to show up every single day and give give a crap. You know about winning football games. So I think there will be a bumpy. I I'm gonna say bumpy. I think it's going to be an interesting press conference when they introduced them. I think that hopefully he learned a little bit of dealing with the Miami press. And quite frankly at the end of the day, there's gonna be a lot of negativity around it. I know it the only thing that's going to change. It is as how it looks on the football field come next September. This is the most asinine. Idea. I ever see. Yeah. And at ten o'clock, you know, that's not true. I know we play that. I don't know where you got that Joe. But he doesn't get if it were cliff Kingsbury if it were Matt rule, right? One of these guys. I would agree with that one hundred percent I want some I wanted somebody here with experience somebody I didn't realize it was going to be this quickly with Adam gays, but somebody that new Bill bell Jack knew how to coach against him new the division, you got everything here. Plus, he's forty years old and he's an offensive guy. I don't know that that checks every single one of the boxes they're looking for the only thing that he doesn't have is. He doesn't have the head coaching Super Bowl resume that Mike McCarthy had which also probably means that he could not demand the things that he would have wanted demand because he doesn't have that on the wall. There's a ton to get into this morning. I've got some more questions about Mike McCarthy and why he wasn't considered. We'll get Jerry Recco.
