Coronavirus cases and hospitalizations surge in Seattle's King County
"A catastrophe his words waiting to happen. In a press briefing, He described the exponential growth of the Corona virus outbreak. I need to acknowledge that cases, hospitalizations continue to rise and King County at alarming rates. Our cases are doubling approximately every two weeks and we reached a new peak with approximately 700 new cases reported each day last week. That's nine times higher than what we saw in late September in about 3.5 times higher than the previous peaks. We saw In the summer and in the original outbreak in the spring, we had close to 900 cases reported on the 19th. We are also seeing a sustained increase in hospitalizations with our daily hospitalizations, increasing 3 to 4 fold compared to October. That's every day 3 to 4 fold More people being hospitalized in King County for the last three weeks we've seen between 101 160 people hospitalized per week. And that number was in the low fifties during most of November. We're also seeing a recent increase in hospitalizations among 80 year olds and older and among the 60 to 69 year old group over the past week, and this is very concerning trend for us, because as you know, Previously majority of our cases and hospitalizations have been in the younger and middle aged adults. Another worrisome sign increasing numbers of APP breaks in the size of outbreaks that we're managing in long term care facilities. We had approximately 61 outbreaks reported over the last four weeks compared to 30 in the prior four weeks. We're hearing a briefing from King County Health Officer Dr Jeff Duchin. I would appreciate it if you could perhaps describe where we're at right now, with the increasing hospitalizations. And the leg of a few weeks before we unfortunately, see deaths increase. How bad might this get? Well, thank you for your question, Charlie. You know, like much of a covert 19. It's hard to predict precisely where we're headed. But all indicators Right now in King County suggests it's going to get very bad, particularly if people gather and significant ways over Thanksgiving are subsequently And if we don't do something differently, we as you know, we've been asking providing information and asking the public to limit their activities and take steps to prevent covert transmission for weeks now, yet we're still seeing a relentless rise in cases. That is now being followed by a significant rise and hospitalizations, significant impacts on our health care system. So theoretically, you know, if we don't get this under control, what we can see is the hospitals filling up. That means they're at capacity both in their critical care intensive care units and with the amount of staffing that they have cannot care for critically ill patients who absolutely need that otherwise, and I don't know how Also, I can express it. The that is about as bad as it gets. With respect to, you know, the impact on our health care system. People not getting a life statement care that they need and was hearing about other hospitals and other parts of the country Approaching that point now So clearly, if the operate continues to progress, the way it's progressing that we will reach that point. I can't tell you precisely when that will happen, But we absolutely need to turn this around before then, that Seattle King County Health Officer Dr Jeff Duchin, I'm Charlie, Harder come. O'Neal's Thank you, Charlie. Come on news time 509 we check in now, with Cuomo's Bill Swartz at the Beacon Plumbing Sports desk. The dogs replaced the cubes with the Utes

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for 2020 will be for TV only

De Blasio Promises New Plan On Reopening New York Schools Next Week
"Bill de Blasio says he'll be announcing a plan on the reopening of city schools next week. We're going to focus first on special education schools District 75, then early childhood and elementary school. Let's go school by school because it's the way we can at least get started. Start with those D 75 schools themselves. Again. The goal here is to quickly move to early childhood and elementary. The mayor says schools which have been closed since the city hit a 3% positivity rate last week, will be reopening on a rolling basis. I mean, you're says it will take a lot of engagement with parents. In order to make it work, however, the city might become an orange zone, giving the state authority over schools. This is I

Should I get interns to work for my startup?
"Interns are often college grads or even college students looking to get experience so they can put in their resumes and put it in there and be able to get a job eventually sometimes interns do so well at the company they are interning at and they actually got a job there so on the surface a lot of people think. Oh this is a great idea. Because i don't have to pay them or maybe have to pay them very little. And i get people that are hungry. I give people energetic that. Come here and helped my business grow. But many people forget many different aspects of bringing on interns to your company first of all the reason why is because they have no experience in and sometimes they don't have many skills so you're not getting the best talent to work on your company okay. So you're actually getting somebody who's learning on the job now. Some interns will come with skills. They learned Before they went to university or maybe it's their interests maybe they like web development and this is something that they do on the side and they can in turn as a web developer for your company but even somebody like that is not gonna be skill wise and experience wise as good as somebody who you would hire an pay them a salary because they will get what they deserve and they'll give you deserve that salary right so just keep that in mind. Okay so my personal opinion when it comes to hiring interns that the nature of an intern is. They're looking for a brief stint somewhere to learn. some skills gained some experiences in my experience and from the experience of the different Entrepreneurs i've coached and helped along the way a small fraction of actually stay in becoming police in the company. They're looking usually for six months to year of experience and in my experience it takes about three months to ramp anybody. Noon your business to Get them used to your culture to train them so they know exactly what to do and how to do and how to fulfil their job role and it takes even longer for interns because hey they're not coming with any experience or they're not coming With any job experience in your realm. So they're gonna take a little bit more time to ramp up so if they're around for six months experience You really only gonna get three solid months outta them before they move on and you invested a lot of time effort. Somebody's got train them. Somebody's got to show them how to do the job. The show them had a perform well and then they leave. One of the biggest costs and business is turnover employee turnover. You want to keep your as long as possible because it's costly to find new talent to hire new talent and train them. You want to keep people for at least two to three years to get the most value out of him. Anything over that is gravy and it'd be awesome. You can keep them for longer but anything under two years really. You're losing a lot of money and time and effort in training hiring and all that stuff. So that's even more true with an intern now. I know that you're not paying them paying them very little. But again the expectation that you have in terms of put from an intern is much lower from the new employee. That has you know. Keep your eyes and it's going to be held accountable and all that kind of stuff now. Cows in the tech space. You need to grow you need to sprint unique to really Get moving fast in your business and get your product out there so you can't be wasting time on turnover on entrance leaving on people coming and going in and does affect the culture when you have new. Employees renew teammates every so often you wanna have a core group of people that are in the team and of course people were leaving. Come and go. But not the ray of an intern now. There is an exception. If you're going to be doing something that's more of an investment in your business They you can keep after they leave. Let's say they are Documenting standing operating procedures or. Sap's how do you do everything in your business. The documenting your systems in your play books so that when you do make a higher that can just pick up the playbook and know exactly how to fulfil every task. Another example is content there writing content like blog posts. If they're good writers than those posts will stand the test of time. And we'll serve your business while after they leave but in my experience if they are a good writer if they are good writer and the running amazing blog posts they can get paid for it. They freelance and they will in turn says a bit of a difficult situation. Of course you find great talented people and train them and then leads me to my next point if you wanna take on interns and you found great talent. That is willing to intern for a company then stipulate that they have to be an intern for a period of time. I would say at least twelve months now. In my opinion you should compensate them in some way. Even if it's minimum wage but compensation matters. Okay giving them money for their time now that you invested a year. Also stipulate that you'll they'll have an evaluation at the end of the year and they'll be offered a position if they pass the evaluation this gives them some sort of upward. Mobility gives them something to shoot for. Okay i like working here. I like the work. I'm doing here. I'm learning a lot. I wonder how much i can learn if i was a full time employee. So if you have a path for them it makes it a whole lot easier for you to sell the idea of graduating into becoming an employee and hey starting your career at this company get a few years under bill and then move on to greener pastures. This was a tough one for me to deliver. But it's the truth if you're in the tech space cal. You need to grow fast quick. You can't afford having to train. And retrain retrain intern so if you need content if any procedures lock them into year with You know A chance to become a fulltime police. They pass evaluation. If that's not an option. Just keep moving forward. Do not worry about hiring interns. See if you can hire one experienced player on your team won. Experienced player can equal five inexperienced people or ten interns. I'm serious. I've had in police on my taint team. I have employees on my team that are gold. They are worth You know five or six hires. And they're expensive okay so You go you pay for but sometimes you actually save money by hiring somebody. That's worth their value again. This is my personal opinion. This is my personal advice. From my own experiences experience of the people i've coached the build their own businesses and and the stories i've seen with the soon as i've seen at one hundred dollars i wish you all the best cow with your startup goal. Were on every platform. It's absolutely free to hit. Subscribe to do that right now before we go. I want to leave you with this. When the stakes are low the result is not something really special. This just in general life. If i'm in a position or a job or whatever where you know it's not a big deal fired. It's not a big deal. If i lose his job. You know. there's less pressure for me to perform. This is just human nature okay. Not everybody's going act this way but in general people will okay if you wanna use a rule of thumb but if the stakes are high and they really wanna stay there and they really think this is a good position. They're getting paid in there They don't wanna lose this job. They're going to have incentive to keep it. It's really hard to fight human nature so keep that in. Mind when you're making decisions like this.

Trimming Fat and Keeping Muscle
"So our guest. Today as we mentioned is jordan jones. He's back to give us the flip side of the coin so jordan. Welcome back to the show. Thank you so we talked about bulking and our last episode which is really kind of building muscle. And you're going to. You're going to gain some fat when you're doing that too quickly You don't wanna do a too quickly but you do want to Be in a calorie surplus essentially correct. So now we're on the flip side now where you decide all right now. It's time to lean out but still keep that muscle now. I'm assuming this one is a little bit harder to do But first of all. Can you. Just tell because i've always heard this term the finnish world like i'm cutting right now and so can you explain. What does it mean to cut. Everyone has their own. You know saying doesn't matter cutting slimming down losing fat. I use cutting as it's really the only thing ever said it's really just cutting away. If you're going approach were bodybuilders. Say oh i'm cutting phase on prep is really just trying to lose all the fat and then it will be more from what i gain during the bulking phase. Okay okay so that basically so that definition now the muscles can be seen cracked. Okay exactly so you worked months. You know to gain all this muscle. Hey you will get a little a little. Maybe a little chubb during that. That's why most people do typically around wintertime having covered all time. Trade clients sweating jacket on his sucks to see me so during the cutting phase. That's really when you're just trying to lose all the fat that way the most is gonna be a little bit more dominant gonna shallow. Been more if you're doing it correctly. A lot of people like look bigger. You gain weight not actually lost ten pounds. Thanks yeah so it's going to show a lot more. It's it's what march third or fourth or something So you know people are probably gonna start doing the cutting or slimming down. It's the cutting season we're entering. It's already would eighty degrees outside right now in california coming up to new. Oh of course. I feel like the time to start eating your show for the other. Yeah actually my body. I've learned naturally the my body does kick into a more like Exerciser athletic mode about april. Like i will be like a really intensive exercise for about three or four months and generally throughout the summer and i. It's so my goal really in life now is just a stay relatively active during the winter so that i don't go too far with the bulk young But yeah that's really interesting. So can you tell me a little bit about maybe fasting. Do you do fasting when you're trying to cut the fat or when you're in a cutting phase i'm not easily put this. I'm not the biggest Person on fasting and fast for you know to- fourteen six hours. Brother-in-law will sometimes fast for twenty four hours. Wow times a week or doing twenty four people will do it thinking that you know you as much as i want whatever i want in between that window and then i'm not going to eat it all for the sixteen to eighteen hours. Whatever kind of doing really popular right now. And i'm not gonna lie like you know it does work again kind of like the last segment. We do kind of see what works for your body for you. Yeah i'm more of a believer of eating every hours. Keep your metabolism going. Keep your body. Fueled specially during a cutting phase. It's really really tricky to learn how your body's gonna react to things and how you're gonna keep as much muscle while trying to turn down. The fat. that over fasting has more of a longterm effect. When cutting like murph's it's it's also healthier. See normally you. Don't you don't seem to mean or angry. People angry sometimes when i feel like when i've seen people they're like a man. They're grumpy so getting back. Finish balking right now just starting phase pretty new into it's still you got the big jug of water grow chicken broccoli and rice. It's not cooked chicken to save my life talking about this. Yeah this one is two point. Five ounces of white rice. We'll faster i'm digesting is going to spike. Insulin will bit more okay. It's seven ounces of chicken and then six ounces of broccoli interest you do that every bill you would say every couple of hours ladies pretty similar realistically pretty basic. Five or six ingredients go to. Yeah my daily diet Fun food say now and tonight before you go to bed. Hi my diet is First meals five thirty in the morning last meal is supposed to be a roughly ten dude. Nine even on coach. I don't want three or four hours of sleep every night. right right. yeah that's right because you're up early training people yeah

"The attorney general Bill bar before the Senate Judiciary committee. CBS news writes, the following quote, a define attorney general defended the way he oversaw the release of special counsel, Robert Muller's report his appearance. Follow the revelation yesterday that Muller had confronted bar about his public characterization of the report. And there is this from. Fox News, quote, attorney general Bill bar firing back Democrats who for weeks have called his integrity into question over his handling of special counsel, Robert Muller's Russia report suggesting during a testy Capitol Hill hearing that they were only using the issue to score political points ahead of the twenty twenty election in advising that the DOJ's rolled in. The controversy is quote now over we will break it all down, but be begin with a portion of the attorney general's opening statement during my confirmation process. There were two concerns that dominated as I think, you will all agree. The first was whether I would in any way, impede or Kerr tale. Special counsels Muller's investigation and the second whether I would make public his final report as you say Bob Muller was allowed to to complete his work as he saw fit. And as for the report, even though the applicability regulations require that the report is to be made to the G, and is to remain confidential and not be made public. I told this committee that I intended to exercise whatever discretion I had to make as much of the report available to the public and to congressional leaders as I could consistent with the law. This has been done. I ride at the department on February fourteenth. And shortly thereafter, I asked it to be communicated to Bob Muller stain that Improperia the report. We requested that they make it. So he could readily identify sixty material. So we could quickly process. The report did you tell the public what sixty six as grand jury material that cannot be made public. It's prohibited by statute, and I wanted that identified so we could redact that material and prepare the report for public releases quickly as we could when I ride at the department I found and was eventually briefed in on the investigation. I found that the deputy attorney general and his principal associate deputy at Cal O'Callaghan. We're in regular discussions with the counsel's office had been and they communicated this request and had discussions about that. Both the timing of the report and the nature of the report on March fifth. I met with Bob at the suggestion of the deputy and the principal associate deputy by Muller met with Bob Muller. To to get a readout on what his conclusions would be. On March twenty fifth. And at that meeting. I asked I reiterate it to to special counsel Mahler that in order to to have the shortest possible time before I was in a position to release the report I asked that they identify sixty material. When I received the report on March twenty second, and we were hoping to to have that easily identified the six eight material. Unfortunately, it did not come in that form and it quickly became apparent that. It would take about three or four weeks. To identify that material and other material that have to be redacted. So there was necessarily going to be a gap between the receipt of the report and getting the full report out publicly the deputy, and I. Identified four categories of information that we believe required redaction, and I think you will all know of them. But they were the grand jury materialistic c material information that the intelligence community advised would reveal sensitive sources and methods information that if revealed at this stage would impinge on the investigation or prosecution of related cases and information that would unfairly affect the privacy and reputational interests of peripheral third parties. We want about redacting this material in concert with special counsel's office. We needed their assistance to identify the sixty material in particular. The reductions were all carried out by DOJ lawyers with special counsel lawyers in consultation with intelligence community. Today's hearing began shortly after ten AM with a lunch break it concluded just past three PM. Are you suggesting that I was inaccurate in? How I talked to congress and Muller said, no, no, no, I'm not suggesting you work inaccurate. I'm suggesting that I want you to release more context, more summaries. More executive summaries of the report because in the Muller report, you have four hundred pages three hundred eighty something like that. And before each volume two volumes you have an executive summary. Now, the executive summary was very helpful. When that report was released, and I had to go on TV in about ten minutes. And so I had to quickly scan the executive summary. But clearly what Bob Muller wanted was for William bar to release that executive summary right away. And William Barr says no I'm not going to release multiple summaries, especially staggered over time that are going to confuse people. Now, it's not Bob Muller's. Call on what summaries, and how many press conferences, and how many press interviews he wants to give it seems from the leaking of Bob Muller's letter that he or somebody on his team is pretty familiar with talking to the press, but will William Barr is no we're not going to do that. And here's his reasoning. Why I told Bob that I was not interested in putting out summaries. And I wasn't going to put out the report piecemeal I wanted to get the whole report arrow, and I thought summaries by very definition, regardless of who prepared them would be under inclusive, and we'd have sort of a series of different debates and public discord over each Tronc of information that went out, and I wanted to get everything out at once and we should start working. That pre sound reasoning. And by the way, it turns out that bar was right Boris argument is if you release these things piecemeal and different summaries it's going to be endlessly ripped apart. Orig you about there's going to be a lot of controversy better to just give congress the quick view of things and then released the report when we can. And by the way, the only reason bar had to send that letter to congress in the first place, which obviously then came out to the public was because William bar asked. Bob Muller to send him over a report with the grand jury..

Vote for Bill bar, and what about some of your other democratic colleagues? I think I could be I think that you know, where to stage where we desperately need somebody who will truly stand up for the department as an independent institution. And I do think that he gave a lot of very good signals in that regard and has prior experience and his family's engagement with the department as you know, career a USA's and all of that put him in the right definitional category to be somebody who will stand up for the department. So again, you know, come the real pressures, and you know, Rush Limbaugh on the airwaves about you. And all that other stuff we've seen strong men fail in front of Trump's pressures before. So I wanna ask you about the legal argument about whether a sitting president can be indicted, but you said on CNN just recently that the quotas. We're certainly in a mode of moving toward indictment and charges of the president. What's what's your basis for that? In what? What's that? The question had to do with looking at the Muller investigation from outside and trying to figure out what status that is in. And there's been a little bit of press hysteria about how the investigations wrapping up. Oh, it's winding down over at the tail end of it, which seems to have very little factual foundation to it. And just now you have Rick gates asked to have his sentencing extended because he's cooperating believe in multiple investigation, and you have this heavily heavily redacted Manafort document, which as far as I'm concerned, the there's a rough correlation between the amount of reduction in the amount of continuing investigation. So I think the signals are that it's continuing, and I was in that answer trying to say where do I think they are in their investigation. And that is they are past the stage of there being a case here that's worth pursuing their deep into investigation and prepare. During charges and things like that. But from what I can see they don't have that critical piece of direct evidence that closes the case, they're still working in a large web of circumstantial evidence. So the we in that is putting myself into Muller's head and trying to think where his investigation has given everything we've learned and especially over the last week the New York Times story about the counterintelligence investigation that was launched by the FBI, the Washington Post story about the multiple about the ways in which Trump communicated with Putin with no record whatsoever. Even reading over notes. I mean, is it acceptable at this point to just wait. For Muller doesn't congress have an obligation to step up to the plate here and conduct its own investigation. As far as I can tell Senate Intel has not held a single public. Airing with any fact witness at all so that all the testimony has been concealed from the public. We don't know what they gotten. And if this investigation is going to go on for some time as you're suggesting is that okay with you, just we'll we'll just wait for Muller. You know, the argument could be made that you've outsourced your constitutional responsibility to a official in the executive branch who you who's told you nothing about what he's doing. I think there are some very important baseline questions that we need to answer that should have been answered already. Yeah. We're really exercise of proper congressional oversight instead of Republican congressional bend oversight, which is not good line. Not adequate. And just like, they're probably a lot of them. But just think of these two as kind of openers. We don't know to what extent this president has ongoing business relationships and transactions with Russian figures or Saudi figures for that matter. Right. And you saw how squirrelly bar got when I tried to ask him questions. One. Hearing you ask the Senator was are the president's foreign basically are the president's foreign business interests and entanglements a counterintelligence concern for the FBI and the answer is out for us. "William bar, Bill bar was interesting in that was that would came up which was something we've been talking about yesterday. And I was on Hannity last night talking about it again. And that is the so called counter intelligence investigation that was launched by the FBI, let me kind of lay out the framework, and I got a quick question for Andy. Which is again, I think it's important to differentiate between the counterintelligence and criminal inquiry. But let me let me lay out the scenario here. So we went through all the irregularities down the broadcast yesterday. And then, but let me give you a time sequence. So the James Comey tells the president United States he's not under investigation. Then James call me is fired at the same time. Peter Struck sends a text message in the same week. Peter Struck sends a text message to this is I I've always found this to be interesting to Lisa page saying whether he was going to go over to the special counsel's office to work on the investigation. And he says, you know, I would if I thought there was a there there there's really not a bear there. My gut tells me there's not a bear there. I'm not going to go over. I don't think words to that effect. I ended up he ended up. He does James Comey is fired. So it goes from you're not under investigation to the investigators say I don't think there's anything there there with Russia to James Comey gets fired and then purportedly a counter intelligence investigation is launched against the sitting president of the United States. Yeah. And this counter intelligence investigation would have been launched around the same time that Peter Strock was saying there's no big they're they're so he's the head of counter intelligence saying there's no big they're they're right. But yet he's willing to launch a counterintelligence investigation against the president to try and show and prove that the president is acting as a Russian agent is the main cheering candidates scenario, the most absurd of all scenarios, and what would be again, if in reality much more serious, but Peter Struck says there's no there there does he want to join the special counsel team, which by the way took over that counterintelligence investigation that he started it took it over if there was a new one, but I suspect it took over crossfire hurricane as well. But we still don't know if there was actually a new one put in place, we don't know that Andy again important distinction between counterintelligence and criminal criminal investigation is an investigation. That is aimed at determining whether a crime has been committed specific violation of the US code and there's targets and subjects of those and the purposes to arrest somebody to indict them to convict them into send some to jail. That's what a criminal investigation is a counterintelligence investigation. Generally, the result of the the province of the FBI is to counter foreign intelligence activities within the United States to see if any secrets of the United States are being stolen or compromised or assets. The United States are being used. It's a mission that his fact-finding in nature and doesn't result in in dimes and investigations of the nature have described earlier and could go on for years. So quickly urine. How much news is this gap gathered on Capitol Hill is potential counterintelligence investigation launched at the president. We could have done this and open setting and two when you read the transcript, you will see that we're talking again about Hillary Clinton's emails sake. So I'm not sure we need to do this at all. But I'm trying to respect the institution and to answer questions in a respectful way. You'll see I did that in the transcript you'll see that. Read the transcript, then I think you will not see that happening. Specific topics that we still feel like you can't discuss from your time at the FBI director out the door for a year and a half. Now, what can't you answer? Well, the FBI for understandable reasons doesn't want me talking about the details of the investigation is still ongoing began when I was FBI director makes sense that they don't want me going into those details, but that's a very tiny part of what we talked about today. A whole lot of Hillary Clinton's emails, which will you? Next time. Figuring will be. There wasn't any talk of it. I think they want to do it the same way. I wish it we're going to be public. But I think we're gonna have to do the same way. Again. He said, you're okay with the nomination.
