New stimulus bill still unresolved

"The most recent meeting between White House officials and top congressional Democrats on a new stimulus bill did not go well. The biggest issues were not resolved and each side accusing the other of being unwilling to compromise. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House chief of staff Mark Meadows say they'll talk to President Trump today, then call House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer to determine whether it makes sense to meet.

New York governor calls Trump benefits executive order 'laughable'

"Are criticizing President Trump's executive actions on Corona virus relief. NPR's Joel Rose reports. The governor of New York, says those moves would increase the burden on his cash strapped state. President Trump signed a string of executive actions on Saturday, including one that extends enhanced unemployment benefits at the rate of $400 a week reduced from $600 But it requires states to pick up 1/4 of the bill. New York's governor, Democrat Andrew Cuomo, calls that quote laughable. You can't now, say two states who have no funding. You have to pay 25% of the unemployment insurance cost. Congress has so far failed to reach an agreement on a new Corona virus relief package. One of the sticking point is the Democrats demand for billions of dollars in funding for state and local governments that have been hit hard by the

Trump takes executive action on economic relief

"This is America right now by the numbers. Some five million people have confirmed Corona virus infections. Just yesterday, 55,000 people tested positive. Covad, 19 killed 1100 people in the last 24 hours, and more than 30 million people are relying on some form of unemployment benefit. Congress has failed so far to agree on a new relief bill. So yesterday, President Trump signed executive orders to extend a number of temporary economic measures, and all of this is happening as we race toward an election in November. We're joined now by NPR's national political correspondent Mara Liasson. Hi, Mara. Hi, Lulu. So the president spent a lot of time slamming Democratic lawmakers yesterday and rolled out economic relief that we should say is temporary but aren't Many Senate Republicans dead set against extending these extra benefits. Yes, they are, but they're also supposedly against any president. Usurping Congress is constitutional power of the purse that is the power to tax and spend. But politically for the moment, at least, this is a point for Trump. He gets to say Congress couldn't or wouldn't act. But I did, even though there might be a lot less than meets the eye with some of these executive actions. It's unclear if the unemployment extension will actually happen. And when it comes to the eviction relief, for instance. The memo he signed merely tells federal agencies to quote consider if evictions should be stopped, so maybe less there than meets the eye. Meanwhile, we should note that the pace of the presidential races, of course, picking up and Vice President Joe Biden is giving more interviews and doing more public speaking and Republicans are watching. And they have AH, weaponized some of Biden's answers. Well, some violins, answers have been what we call gaffes. He made another one while answering your question. Lulu on a panel consisting of black and Latino journalists. You asked him a question that would was very important to Latino voters in Florida. You asked him if he would reengage with Cuba. Here's what he said. What you all know, but most people don't know. Unlike the African American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is incredibly diverse community. With incredibly different attitudes about different things. Unlike the African American community, why bring up African Americans at all, and suggests that they are monolithic in their views. So this is another gas. Biden's recent gaffes are often about African Americans. Remember, he said. If you're voting for Trump quote, you ain't black. They're always unprompted. And it's inexplicable, given the support he has among African Americans, given that African American voters saved his candidacy, But is this a winning strategy for the GOP? Well, look, they depend on Biden making gaffes. They're hoping to use them against him. But the big question is. Maybe this is like 2016 when all of the outrageous things that Trump said that Democrats thought would hurt him. Didn't Biden's poll numbers are pretty steady? Why? Maybe because this race is a referendum on the incumbent, and the big question is, Will it stay that way? Will trump succeed in making this race into a binary choice?

"As a package talks stalled in Washington President Trump announcing today at a press conference in New Jersey he's signing an executive order for another round of economic aid. Mr Trump says you will suspend payroll taxes, which he plans to make permanent by the end of a year. He says he also plans to extend unemployment benefits, adding a $400 a week benefit. Of course, John. It is correspondent anti Field tells us the courts may prevent some of that from happening on top of asking states to use money they've received and instead sent it to unemployed workers. The president's directing HUD to make sure people aren't thrown out of their homes, so I'm protecting people from eviction. Yet you've been hearing a lot about eviction and The Democrats don't want to do anything having to do with protecting people from eviction. That is not true. The democratically controlled House passed a bill 10 weeks ago, preventing evictions until next year. The president says he's also directing the Department of Housing and Urban Development to protect people from eviction. And then we will also extend student loan relief to the end of the year. The president signed the orders from his Bedminster Golf Club before leaving for a fundraising event or several of them in the Hamptons. He is now back in Bedminster. For the night.

COVID-19 relief bill negotiations fall apart as lawmakers remain divided

"Congressional leaders, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi met with the trump administration today for what we think was an eleventh round of face-to-face negotiations on another covid relief package for Americans who are out of work or otherwise up against it in the seventh full blown month of this pandemic Democrats offered to knock about a trillion dollars off of their relief bill, which should otherwise been pegged at three point four, trillion, the White House apparently said no to that offer. Many. The deadlines to replenish or extend the relief programs that Congress has passed in the past. Those have already come and gone deadline to continue paying the extra six hundred bucks and unemployment benefits that tens of millions of Americans have been relying on since they've been out of work that deadline came and went July thirty first. The deadline to extend the ban on people across the country that passed on July twenty fourth now as many as twelve million people or risk of losing their homes if they don't get help. Technically the paycheck protection program the Federal Loan Program to try to keep small businesses afloat. Technically, that program is still alive that program doesn't expire until tomorrow, but it does matter tomorrow. With all these federal leaf relief programs either collapsing on the verge of collapsing the trump administration is saying no to the Democrats compromise offer they've been making vague noises about the president trying to do some of these things by executive order the president talked about that tonight at his golf club in Bedminster but then quickly pivoted to spending the next half an hour remarks basically holding a very small campaign rally. Left unsaid at all was how he intends to muster the authority to try to do any of this single handedly since it's congress, not the president. That holds the power of the purse tick tock though in terms of how much Americans need relief right now, there's no end to this pandemic insight. The reason these things are expiring is because when they initially past people thought this would be over by now. It's nowhere near over Americans are suffering just as much as they were when these things were passed in the first place. How's this going to resolve? Joining us now is the Great James Clyburn South Carolina Congressman Chair of the House Select Committee Oversees Virus Relief Funds Congressman Clyburn. It's really nice to see you here. Tonight it's been too long since you've been here on the show I really appreciate you making time to be here. Thank you very much. Can you just give us your overview perspective on what you think is going to happen whether you think that these programs that so many Americans have been counting on will get extended what kind of lapse that will be looking at between those programs initially expiring and them getting re upped when ultimately some deal hopefully, it's worked out. I think we. WORKED OUT WE'LL be the tremendous amid of the week. Weekend. We will have. Some politicians tomorrow I think we're getting close to something happening. That will be beneficial to everybody. When the president talks about doing some of these things by executive order, I feel like I'm going back to my school house rock it's just I'm just a bill kind of basics about how the different branches of government work I mean the one thing the president doesn't have is the power of the purse when he says that he can do some of these things just by signing. An executive order when we're talking about, you know sending money to people weren't talking about an unemployment benefits boost when we're talking about changes around taxes that he's talking about, it doesn't seem to me that he has the power to do any of that as as president. But yet, the White House seems to think that that's a that's another way to get at the relief that's needed. The purchasing is saying that there is no congress, the acid deal with no people the he has to listen to He says these things up think as always throwing something up on the wall to see if it was. I think he knows better than this. The general owners that he issues have gone to court time and time again and they've been thrown back into his face as appointed time. I think he's get the message from the Courts as well. But keep working and we'll come to some agreement I. Wish that Mr McConnell or in the room so that we can get the legislative bodies together but he seems to have. Turned over to the White House, but we'll get something. You you sound confidence and that. Is booming to me because I feel like you're pretty clear eyed observer about what is capable what what Capitol Hill is capable of doing just ask what you would say to Americans right now who are really scared about not just the health aspects of this but the economic aspects of this I mean so many people that I know just in my personal life with their small business owners or whether they are employees of public or private entities. people are worried about whether or not the the economic. Blow that's been dealt to individual families into our country. Right now is something that we're going to recover from in the long run. How do you? How do you see that and? How do you think the government has done in terms of trying to fix some of these these wounds? People are worried and. Something, I'm worried. He got a really a pandemic, but then a pandemic here. When you really look at it they got a big healthcare crisis. They got an economic crisis, and as we focused on trying to do something about the economic crisis, the fact of the matter which are not yet it saw without solving this healthcare crisis. So it's a double whammy here. We have to try to operate knowing full well that you cannot operate within the silo here

Trump Vows to Issue Executive Orders if Coronavirus Relief Talks Collapse

"Breaking news on the economic front the White House and Democrats say talks of the economic stimulus package they have hit a wall president trump is threatening to take executive action on his own. Let's get details on that from our chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta. Americans they are in desperate economic pain right now but stimulus talks seem to be going nowhere right now what's the latest? Well, that's right. Wolf with negotiations falling apart over Corona Virus Relief Bill White House officials say president trump is now expected to take some kind of executive action to provide financial support to Americans who are struggling to find work during this pandemic the executive orders are likely to include some kind of effort to provide enhanced unemployment benefits as well as some kind of. Action on suspending evictions from rental homes. There may be some other proposals in the mix, and in the meantime, we should point out the president just hinted at the path ahead in the last hour tweeting, we're going a different way that tweet coming from the president in just the last hour, and in the meantime administration officials are throwing cold water on the president's gold having corona virus vaccine ready by election day one senior administration official told me earlier today that timeline is highly unlikely. President trump's claim that a corona virus vaccine could be ready by election day is receiving an injection of reality as top administration health officials are saying, don't bet on it. Then November third. Oh I. Think I think in some cases. Yes. Possible before. But right around that time, a senior administration official told CNN that timeline is just not realistic saying it's quote metaphysically possible but highly unlikely and Corona Virus Taskforce Dr Anthony Fauci said. May Have to wait until November or December just to find out of a vaccine really works adding maybe we'll get an answer as early as October but I doubt it trying to put a finer prediction on the timetable right now I don't think any of us have enough information yet to know how that's going to shake out. The pandemic Bennett economy recovered somewhat in July with the unemployment rate falling to just above ten percent with one point eight million jobs added even with so many Americans still out of work congressional Democrats and White House officials have been at odds all week over Corona Virus Relief Bill with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, pointing the finger at top aides to the president. Now, that's been in the White House when the president's land that table and walked out that's really what Mr. Meadows. Did I on the table can't shoot staff Mark Meadows Jabbing right back I think for those that are suffering they. They should be asking the Democrats in the House and the Senate why why have you failed to meet the needs that we have so rightly expressed without a deal the White House is signaling Mr Trump will take executive action that legal drafting is complete. We've had this intense discussions about this. In the last several days, I don't WanNa make predictions. Democrats are also keeping an eye on election day accusing the administration of making changes to the nation's postal system that could slow down mayland balloting in a letter, the Postal Service Inspector General, a group of Democratic senators wrote the changes appear to pose a potential threat to mail in ballots and the twenty twenty general election President Likes Mail in voting in Florida but not another states like Nevada Florida's got a great Republican governor and it had a great Republican. Got Run to scientists Rick Scott, the president is seizing on comments made by Joe Biden, you seem to say African Americans are less diverse and their political views Latino voters unlike the African American community notable exceptions. The Latino community is incredibly diverse community. With, incredibly different attitudes about different things Biden try to clean that up tweeting in no way. Did I mean to suggest the African American community is a monolith not by identity not on issues not at all Mr Trump, tweeted biden is no longer worthy of the black vote I don't know what's going on with them, but it was very insulting. The president's attack on Biden are tricky for Mr Trump, who has a long track record of racially offensive behavior including sharing this video, featuring a supporter shouting white power. Now the US intelligence community issued a startling statement on election security today as the US closing in on the fall campaign. In that statement intelligence officials warn Russia is trying to damage from where Vice President Joe Biden. His chances to win the white. House the statement also from the intelligence community says, she prefers that president trump fail in his bid for a second term. These warnings from intelligence officials come at a critical time for American voters who were largely unaware that. "President of the United States signed two executive orders Thursday under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and a couple other justifications forbidding transactions with tiktok owner bite dance, and any transactions with ten cents related to their super. APP We chat. Each of these orders takes effect September twentieth. You might recall Microsoft has until September fifteenth to reach a deal to buy some or all of Tiktok from by dense. So there's a little bit of a gap there between win Microsoft's deadline is and when this executive order takes place. So that's the first thing to remember is they didn't ban the APPS they banned transactions with the companies which could cause apps to disappear and it doesn't happen until. September twentieth. So there's forty five days to figure out how this is going to work. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross will identify which transactions will be considered prohibited under the order. So that's going to change a lot of people are looking at the tencent order and saying, well, wait could this band transactions with other ten cent industries and so that will be important for the the definition from Wilbur Ross to decide is it really just we chat? The use of the emergency act is generally applied to terrorism or sometimes international trade and will likely be challenged in court. In fact, tiktok is pretty much said it's going to do that. "The attorney general Bill bar before the Senate Judiciary committee. CBS news writes, the following quote, a define attorney general defended the way he oversaw the release of special counsel, Robert Muller's report his appearance. Follow the revelation yesterday that Muller had confronted bar about his public characterization of the report. And there is this from. Fox News, quote, attorney general Bill bar firing back Democrats who for weeks have called his integrity into question over his handling of special counsel, Robert Muller's Russia report suggesting during a testy Capitol Hill hearing that they were only using the issue to score political points ahead of the twenty twenty election in advising that the DOJ's rolled in. The controversy is quote now over we will break it all down, but be begin with a portion of the attorney general's opening statement during my confirmation process. There were two concerns that dominated as I think, you will all agree. The first was whether I would in any way, impede or Kerr tale. Special counsels Muller's investigation and the second whether I would make public his final report as you say Bob Muller was allowed to to complete his work as he saw fit. And as for the report, even though the applicability regulations require that the report is to be made to the G, and is to remain confidential and not be made public. I told this committee that I intended to exercise whatever discretion I had to make as much of the report available to the public and to congressional leaders as I could consistent with the law. This has been done. I ride at the department on February fourteenth. And shortly thereafter, I asked it to be communicated to Bob Muller stain that Improperia the report. We requested that they make it. So he could readily identify sixty material. So we could quickly process. The report did you tell the public what sixty six as grand jury material that cannot be made public. It's prohibited by statute, and I wanted that identified so we could redact that material and prepare the report for public releases quickly as we could when I ride at the department I found and was eventually briefed in on the investigation. I found that the deputy attorney general and his principal associate deputy at Cal O'Callaghan. We're in regular discussions with the counsel's office had been and they communicated this request and had discussions about that. Both the timing of the report and the nature of the report on March fifth. I met with Bob at the suggestion of the deputy and the principal associate deputy by Muller met with Bob Muller. To to get a readout on what his conclusions would be. On March twenty fifth. And at that meeting. I asked I reiterate it to to special counsel Mahler that in order to to have the shortest possible time before I was in a position to release the report I asked that they identify sixty material. When I received the report on March twenty second, and we were hoping to to have that easily identified the six eight material. Unfortunately, it did not come in that form and it quickly became apparent that. It would take about three or four weeks. To identify that material and other material that have to be redacted. So there was necessarily going to be a gap between the receipt of the report and getting the full report out publicly the deputy, and I. Identified four categories of information that we believe required redaction, and I think you will all know of them. But they were the grand jury materialistic c material information that the intelligence community advised would reveal sensitive sources and methods information that if revealed at this stage would impinge on the investigation or prosecution of related cases and information that would unfairly affect the privacy and reputational interests of peripheral third parties. We want about redacting this material in concert with special counsel's office. We needed their assistance to identify the sixty material in particular. The reductions were all carried out by DOJ lawyers with special counsel lawyers in consultation with intelligence community. Today's hearing began shortly after ten AM with a lunch break it concluded just past three PM. The White House confirming the president did watch the testimony and William bar was scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary committee tomorrow morning. The committee will still need the attorney general will not appear you can watch the hearing live on C span television. And listen to it here on C span radio. Meanwhile, committee chair Senator Lindsey Graham made sure today's appearance before the Senate Judiciary committee got off to a rather explosive start he spent a large part of his opening remarks discussing text messages between former FBI officials Peter Struck and Lisa page to fierce critics have Donald Trump at one point. He dropped the f bomb while quoting one of their exchanges from October nineteenth two thousand sixteen. Trump is an issue. Idiot using the F word. He then apologized to any children listening. Well, look at the FIS a warrant process did Russia provide Christopher Steele information about Trump that turned out to be garbage. That was used to get a warrant on American system said, and if so how did this system or is there a real effort between Papadopoulos and anybody in Russia to use the Clinton emails stolen, stole by the Russians. Or is that thought planet in his mind? I don't know. But we're gonna look. And I can tell you this. If you change the name Joe wanna look to. Everything I just said just substitute Clinton for Trump. See what all of these people will cameras would be saying out here about this as to cooperation in the Clinton investigation. I told you what the Trump people did Tevi of about what the Clinton people did. There was a protective order. For the server. Issued by the house, and there was a request by the State Department to preserve all the information on the server. Paul Cam better after having the protective order. Used a software program called bleach. Bit to white this Email server clean as anybody ever heard of Paul can better. No. Under a protective order from the house to preserve the information. Other requests from the State Department to preserve the information on the server used a bleach bit program. Don't wipe it clean. What happened to him? Nothing. Eighteen devices possessed by secretary Clinton, she used to do business a secretary how many of them were turned over to the FBI not two of them could be turned over because Judith casper took a hammer and destroyed two of them. What happened Dr? Nothing. So the bottom line is were about here for Mr. bar. The results of a two year investigation into the Trump campaign all things Russia the actions, the president took before and after the campaign twenty five million dollars. Forty FBI agents. Appreciate very much what Mr. Muller did for the country. I have read most of the report. For me. It is over. And yet some Democrats criticizing Senator Lindsey Graham for not reading the entire report just over four hundred pages. Eight is available on our website. It's C-SPAN dot or you can type in on the search engine. The Muller report and read all four hundred plus pages, except of course, the redacted versions are the redacted portions of that report. Now, the attorney general noted in his testimony that Robert Muller concluded his investigation without any interference that neither the attorney general nor any other Justice department official overruled the special counsel on any action. He wanted to take the attorney general also defended his decision to step in and clear, the president of obstruction of Justice after Muller presented evidence on both sides. But did not reach conclusion, California Senator Dianne Feinstein is the committee's ranking democrat you still have a situation where a president essentially tries to change. "But he was very clear with me that he was not suggesting that we had misrepresented his report there. It is Bill bar gets the letter from Bob Muller saying that Bill bars letter to congress did not fully capture. The concerns about the context and the nature in the sub didn't fully capture and so Bob Barr. Call Bill bar Bill and Bob Billy, Bob Billy Bob Thornton Bill bar calls. Bob Muller and says, listen to bars, very precise language, are you suggesting that my letter to congress did not accurately portray? What was in your report? Are you suggesting that I was inaccurate in? How I talked to congress and Muller said, no, no, no, I'm not suggesting you work inaccurate. I'm suggesting that I want you to release more context, more summaries. More executive summaries of the report because in the Muller report, you have four hundred pages three hundred eighty something like that. And before each volume two volumes you have an executive summary. Now, the executive summary was very helpful. When that report was released, and I had to go on TV in about ten minutes. And so I had to quickly scan the executive summary. But clearly what Bob Muller wanted was for William bar to release that executive summary right away. And William Barr says no I'm not going to release multiple summaries, especially staggered over time that are going to confuse people. Now, it's not Bob Muller's. Call on what summaries, and how many press conferences, and how many press interviews he wants to give it seems from the leaking of Bob Muller's letter that he or somebody on his team is pretty familiar with talking to the press, but will William Barr is no we're not going to do that. And here's his reasoning. Why I told Bob that I was not interested in putting out summaries. And I wasn't going to put out the report piecemeal I wanted to get the whole report arrow, and I thought summaries by very definition, regardless of who prepared them would be under inclusive, and we'd have sort of a series of different debates and public discord over each Tronc of information that went out, and I wanted to get everything out at once and we should start working. That pre sound reasoning. And by the way, it turns out that bar was right Boris argument is if you release these things piecemeal and different summaries it's going to be endlessly ripped apart. Orig you about there's going to be a lot of controversy better to just give congress the quick view of things and then released the report when we can. And by the way, the only reason bar had to send that letter to congress in the first place, which obviously then came out to the public was because William bar asked. Bob Muller to send him over a report with the grand jury..

"Today again Bill bar saying. Yeah, there spying going on. I guess you'd be I think there was spying did occur. Yes. I think spying that occurred. Well, let me question is whether it was predicated adequately predicated, and I'm not suggesting predicated, but I need to explore that. "Confirm Bill bar as attorney general he's bar confirmation insurance onto legs depending on the answers that he gets on the record. For the record. Could you be a yes? Vote for Bill bar, and what about some of your other democratic colleagues? I think I could be I think that you know, where to stage where we desperately need somebody who will truly stand up for the department as an independent institution. And I do think that he gave a lot of very good signals in that regard and has prior experience and his family's engagement with the department as you know, career a USA's and all of that put him in the right definitional category to be somebody who will stand up for the department. So again, you know, come the real pressures, and you know, Rush Limbaugh on the airwaves about you. And all that other stuff we've seen strong men fail in front of Trump's pressures before. So I wanna ask you about the legal argument about whether a sitting president can be indicted, but you said on CNN just recently that the quotas. We're certainly in a mode of moving toward indictment and charges of the president. What's what's your basis for that? In what? What's that? The question had to do with looking at the Muller investigation from outside and trying to figure out what status that is in. And there's been a little bit of press hysteria about how the investigations wrapping up. Oh, it's winding down over at the tail end of it, which seems to have very little factual foundation to it. And just now you have Rick gates asked to have his sentencing extended because he's cooperating believe in multiple investigation, and you have this heavily heavily redacted Manafort document, which as far as I'm concerned, the there's a rough correlation between the amount of reduction in the amount of continuing investigation. So I think the signals are that it's continuing, and I was in that answer trying to say where do I think they are in their investigation. And that is they are past the stage of there being a case here that's worth pursuing their deep into investigation and prepare. During charges and things like that. But from what I can see they don't have that critical piece of direct evidence that closes the case, they're still working in a large web of circumstantial evidence. So the we in that is putting myself into Muller's head and trying to think where his investigation has given everything we've learned and especially over the last week the New York Times story about the counterintelligence investigation that was launched by the FBI, the Washington Post story about the multiple about the ways in which Trump communicated with Putin with no record whatsoever. Even reading over notes. I mean, is it acceptable at this point to just wait. For Muller doesn't congress have an obligation to step up to the plate here and conduct its own investigation. As far as I can tell Senate Intel has not held a single public. Airing with any fact witness at all so that all the testimony has been concealed from the public. We don't know what they gotten. And if this investigation is going to go on for some time as you're suggesting is that okay with you, just we'll we'll just wait for Muller. You know, the argument could be made that you've outsourced your constitutional responsibility to a official in the executive branch who you who's told you nothing about what he's doing. I think there are some very important baseline questions that we need to answer that should have been answered already. Yeah. We're really exercise of proper congressional oversight instead of Republican congressional bend oversight, which is not good line. Not adequate. And just like, they're probably a lot of them. But just think of these two as kind of openers. We don't know to what extent this president has ongoing business relationships and transactions with Russian figures or Saudi figures for that matter. Right. And you saw how squirrelly bar got when I tried to ask him questions. One. Hearing you ask the Senator was are the president's foreign basically are the president's foreign business interests and entanglements a counterintelligence concern for the FBI and the answer is out for us. "William bar, Bill bar was interesting in that was that would came up which was something we've been talking about yesterday. And I was on Hannity last night talking about it again. And that is the so called counter intelligence investigation that was launched by the FBI, let me kind of lay out the framework, and I got a quick question for Andy. Which is again, I think it's important to differentiate between the counterintelligence and criminal inquiry. But let me let me lay out the scenario here. So we went through all the irregularities down the broadcast yesterday. And then, but let me give you a time sequence. So the James Comey tells the president United States he's not under investigation. Then James call me is fired at the same time. Peter Struck sends a text message in the same week. Peter Struck sends a text message to this is I I've always found this to be interesting to Lisa page saying whether he was going to go over to the special counsel's office to work on the investigation. And he says, you know, I would if I thought there was a there there there's really not a bear there. My gut tells me there's not a bear there. I'm not going to go over. I don't think words to that effect. I ended up he ended up. He does James Comey is fired. So it goes from you're not under investigation to the investigators say I don't think there's anything there there with Russia to James Comey gets fired and then purportedly a counter intelligence investigation is launched against the sitting president of the United States. Yeah. And this counter intelligence investigation would have been launched around the same time that Peter Strock was saying there's no big they're they're so he's the head of counter intelligence saying there's no big they're they're right. But yet he's willing to launch a counterintelligence investigation against the president to try and show and prove that the president is acting as a Russian agent is the main cheering candidates scenario, the most absurd of all scenarios, and what would be again, if in reality much more serious, but Peter Struck says there's no there there does he want to join the special counsel team, which by the way took over that counterintelligence investigation that he started it took it over if there was a new one, but I suspect it took over crossfire hurricane as well. But we still don't know if there was actually a new one put in place, we don't know that Andy again important distinction between counterintelligence and criminal criminal investigation is an investigation. That is aimed at determining whether a crime has been committed specific violation of the US code and there's targets and subjects of those and the purposes to arrest somebody to indict them to convict them into send some to jail. That's what a criminal investigation is a counterintelligence investigation. Generally, the result of the the province of the FBI is to counter foreign intelligence activities within the United States to see if any secrets of the United States are being stolen or compromised or assets. The United States are being used. It's a mission that his fact-finding in nature and doesn't result in in dimes and investigations of the nature have described earlier and could go on for years. So quickly urine. How much news is this gap gathered on Capitol Hill is potential counterintelligence investigation launched at the president. Well, it's getting some the hearings for Bill bar getting more attention today. Jane probably will today and tomorrow. "Visit the Capitol Hill to take questions about the early days of the Russia investigation, and is handling of the Hilary Clinton Email investigation. We took hours of questions from members of two house committees on Friday, here's his reaction to what took place after a full day of questioning two things are clear to me one. We could have done this and open setting and two when you read the transcript, you will see that we're talking again about Hillary Clinton's emails sake. So I'm not sure we need to do this at all. But I'm trying to respect the institution and to answer questions in a respectful way. You'll see I did that in the transcript you'll see that. If you get a transcript of my return visit which I think will be week after next. And then this will be over. The. Nominee served as attorney general. The last time do you have confidence that he can act with impartiality if he's confirmed to this show I like in respect Bill bar. I know he's 'institutionalised who cares deeply about the integrity of the Justice department. So I'm sure he'll use the standard for resources. He has to judge what he should be bothering what he shouldn't be involved in. But Bill bar is a is a talented person. Who was a good attorney general the first time I liked him very much. I think he'll serve Justice. And I'm sure he'll talk to the career officials extensively. Have you? The Muller investigation at this point. I can't talk about that dot director. You can't talk about that. Came out and said government, lawyers, your brain interference and shutdowns specific lines of plush Nate did that happen. And if so what topics not? Read the transcript, then I think you will not see that happening. Specific topics that we still feel like you can't discuss from your time at the FBI director out the door for a year and a half. Now, what can't you answer? Well, the FBI for understandable reasons doesn't want me talking about the details of the investigation is still ongoing began when I was FBI director makes sense that they don't want me going into those details, but that's a very tiny part of what we talked about today. A whole lot of Hillary Clinton's emails, which will you? Next time. Figuring will be. There wasn't any talk of it. I think they want to do it the same way. I wish it we're going to be public. But I think we're gonna have to do the same way. Again. He said, you're okay with the nomination. So will you you have any concerns about the firing up Jeff Sessions and the president continuing going after sessions for not accusing himself. The president's attacks on the Justice department broadly, and the FBI are something that no matter what political party you're in. You should find deeply troubling and continue to speak out about not become numb to attacks on the firing of session specific by that I can count.
