"Vigo hated the bore. Hide stretched tight nailed nailed to the board behind the glass display case. He passed it several times a day during his shift says a tour guide at beauregard manner. He hated the way. It's glass is seem to follow him no matter where he stood in the room he hated the way the skin was displayed. As though killing was something that should be rewarded. He tried to hide his disgust. When tourists made the same crude jokes people posed with it like they had killed it themselves themselves? Vigo was tired of looking at it pretending that it was some charming story. Legend said that the castle walls crumbled to the ground if the skin was removed despite what he said to paying customers. Vigo did not give much credence to the supernatural stories around for guard. She had never seen anything out of the ordinary. People said that the dark spot in the floor wasn't eternal bloodstain but vigo it just looked like rot. There was no reason to believe that this legend will send a tour that the others after the last guests left left Biko stayed behind sticking to the large shadows draped about the castle. He hid from the guards and crept towards the display lake case housing. The dead animal. That disgusted him so much. He bashed the glass in with Iraq. His hands stinging as he withdrew withdrew. "Adoption beautiful because like you guys chose your son to be a part of your family to have your family name. And, and that's that's the gospel, right? Like that. God chose us to be children of God to be have this new identity and to come along and Biko heirs with Christ. So I yeah, I just love that. Your story is a tangible representation of the gospel. I've had a few friends that have adopted kids, and I've, you know, only had the privilege to walk with them in a very, very small way, whether that's just through prayer and financial support. But as I've witnessed there. You know, stories unfold. I've also realized that there is so much broken adoption that, you know, adoption exists because there are broken families and abandoned, children and unmet needs that kind of reminds me that there's a need for grief in the process of adoption. So if you didn't mind sharing what role has grief played does grief play in the process of adoption. Yeah, you're exactly right. Adoption is beautiful. But and it's hard is so much loss, there can be the loss for the birth parent who may have had to make an adoption plan because of age or circumstances. Maybe the birth parent facing poverty, or a child that needs medical care. There's a loss for the Dopp the child with our little guy..

Read them and not nighttime story anything a normal. Father would you and it really works and YouTube called split up because you've never been together. Yeah. Exactly. And we are they are sleep best friends. Find out what our panel. Thank of that veracity Pillay in Johannesburg and Jonathan Steele here in London studio with me, but before we get into that Jonathan you've come to us fresh from a conference on Syria in London this week. This is a very interesting conference at the London School of economics, mainly with Syrians taking part. Basically the exiles. So they're not program in any way. But they were quite depressed about what was happening because who knows wars winding down, and that means that there's less killing going on the government is determined to sort of beaver said one of the academic said to be fortification mode. They want to make sure that this new resurgence of violence and song. And it even goes the question, whether the government wants refugees to come back because as one of them, again, another one put it the government doesn't have the resources not only not to feed people coming back to police them because the sources fear that there could be a new uprising us there wasn't twenty eleven and even talking about people coming back does that mean that there is a sense that the conflict is winding down. I think there's a definite sense. I think everybody agrees including opposition people. Hold up mainly in. Live in northwest, Syria. The rest of the country's back onto government control, the whole of Damascus big cities, Hampson Hammond. And. Leper so fighting house really calm down and the government claims they control what they call can the terrible phrase useful, Syria. The area. They consider doesn't matter in the northwest doesn't matter, but the big cities in the spine of the country, which runs no south from leopard entre Moscos's back from and government is very very interesting to hear the you say there's consensus that the conflict is winding down and get one of our contributors recently was talking about standing on the balcony of her home in Damascus and seeing the bombs falling on another part of the city will I think that's a little bit out of date. Now that used to be the case when I lost about a year ago. You could hear the poems and see the plain song. After the fall of Houston Huta in the spring of this year, pretty much, Damascus suburbs and back government control back under military control. But as hinting from this conference is the whole question of political Israel and government is not going to make any concessions, those can be no compromise or to alter the in fact, the Geneva talks dead dead sing because the government is determined to consolidate its victory, forty five country grounded Sern regime and not make any concessions tool, and as our other guest on the line from Johannesburg knows very well one thing is is the struggle. And another thing is the peace afterwards and Borussia Pillay on the line from Johannesburg. You've been looking into something else. We talk about South Africa we used to as the rainbow nation, but you have been looking at an undecided of racism within. Would you say? Within the black community. Absolutely. The skull within the black community and within the Asian community. And in fact, many communities I myself am of south Indian descent, so I really had from both sides being sort of sixth seventh generation growing considering by South African as well as of Indian descent and seeing just how these tropes play out. And because it's so much of a black lives have been discussed in relation to to whiteness and colonialism. It's only now that we started to have this conversations within black communities, which I think is really important that we start talking about how have we internalized notions of self hatred, and so on and a one of the one of the obvious things is the skin lightening creams, which understand you're searching. Yes, I'm actually writing a book on the topic of color rhythm and cutter ISM. You know? It's it's got so many. Sort of impacts in our society. One of them is of course, you know, the most obvious one is the very damaging nature of skin lightening creams in South Africa. We were fortunate enough to had those band very early on in in in our in, you know, in the sixteenth s the damage became apparent and people still use them they're widely available in black markets. And and you know, it's not just about the health risk. There's so many studies that show that lighter skinned people are lacking black people get much more in all kinds of opportunities job opportunities. You only have to look at Hollywood to see this. The light skinned the lighter skinned black woman is is usually cost darling. And the darker skinned black woman is cast as the villain and just how it is becoming in growing and growing conversation with these kind of things are being unpacked, and it really reaches across the world. And when I visited India for the first time, I was considered extremely dark, and and it's very interesting to me because I grew up under. The influence of black consciousness of Steve Biko where you taught to love yourself, and that influenced my understanding of my own skin color, and in India, it really was seen as a huge, Mark. I could not find makeup in my skin color. And I'm I could not find any creams that did not have skin lightening in them. And as you say this is prevalent across the rest of Africa, the Congo, Nigeria and so on. Coming. You mentioned black consciousness. I was just wondering right now, the ANC is. Emphasizing blackness much more. In fact, I think Tabor Mbeki recently said the ANC is becoming a black party. He was saying that was a criticism and you've got the economic freedom fighters. Rules, pushing sort of black power entering into this debate on on this sort of saying to toback people you shouldn't fool for this nonsense about calories and trying to look whiter than white. So absolutely. This is a very much a debate that I think is raging amongst the diaspora and blackmail across the world, whereas in South Africa because of the fierce black pride and a big movements towards owning your blackness. It would be considered very unfashionable to to avert. We say these things so it's really subtle. It's really a subtle thing. You know, they'll be adobe slang terms. Coined Appalachia skinned woman, yellow bone, and there'll be a preference towards them in music videos, and in also liberty culture. They'll be gradual lightning of our liberties getting lighter and lighter because they're using something called glutathione. Injections, which is not tested at all in terms of health implications, and literally lightens your skin. So there is this professing publicly of being proudly black while I'm working really hard to conform to a standard of beauty in terms of intensive one skin color and other aspects of how presents themselves. Hey up of fat. So while the ANC are very pro black. You know, there's so many issues for them to tackle. They haven't quite got onto this one yet. Well, let's hear more about that issue later in the program rationally Pillay on the line from Johannesburg and Jonathan steel here in London. But right now, let's go to France where the capital is waking up amid fears of another weekend of violence and new nationwide protest of the zone. All the yellow vests is due to take place in the coming hours, the government as well as major unions have called for calm asking protesters to stay away from places where many of last week's more violent incidents took place in the capital, but also in the rest of the country to in Paris, major attractions such as the Eiffel tower will remain closed today. But all of this is despite concessions from president Emmanuel Macron earlier this week, including abandoning a planned increase on fuel tax. And yet that hasn't appeased everyone tensions remain, very high as Hugh Scofield reports from Paris. It's

"Lot to do with shooting. You find out where the buzz is coming from. Why's that's Biko ticking wise, my remote control, not working a lot of things that make you trouble shoot. And I think I've just trained myself. I think my math background, math, calculus, physics, all that stuff to help me in my critical thinking skills. And I think that that is one of my biggest strength is coming to a solution quickly. I'm this curious because we're both kind of same line of work now where we started. Off with one man in a letter, and then you build this business, and then all of a sudden you step out of the day to day grind, but now you're grinding from the managerial side, you're managing. So do you get sick of the point, like all ideas? I feel like I fix problems from the moment. I wake up my phone rings, so sometimes go to bed. All I'm doing is fixing a homeowner's problem or subcontractors problem. And sometimes it's the end of the day, and I'm like, if anybody asked me one more freaking question about fixing anything, I'm gonna lose it. And then and then when I'm at that point, I just don't answer my phone because I know I'm just in a bad mood you'd be you'd be better off, not answering because what dialogue you would have may not be positive and let your your phone voicemail, pick it up and then take twenty breaths and you can call them back in the morning or later on that after noon. Yes, I've gotten to that point and. Not only that, but whenever you're problem solving all day, it's hard to get traction. You know, you're trying to build positive momentum in your company and your literally like standing still kind of spinning your wheels. But I mean, that's just good to go to new contractors, even tell him you, let's do it right the first time they're ask me questions if you don't understand it so that we don't have to do it again and so on and so forth. So I mean, that really, really is important for sure. Yeah. Okay. So do you feel what you feel like your biggest weaknesses? Sometimes we talked about being over an extension of strength. Do you feel like you have something else that comes your mind? No, I'm very, very weak in the fact that I for one, I trust people. I try to trust them until they made me not trust them. And unfortunately sometimes that gets the point to where it's it's hurt the company or my family or something. Not not big biting means, but I am very trustworthy. The other thing about an entrepreneur, nothing John. You probably going to relate to this as well is ready fire aim to? I'm not. I don't think things through that. I'm not a good planner. I'm good problem solver and probably the reasonable could problems offers because typically create the problems. You're not always flyer. Say, always. I'm getting better, but I fire, I crap. I missed. I need to go to the left a little bit instead of trying to focus in on like I just blast it and I'm like, oh, close. Let's SCO. Yeah, this is. Is a little bit. Yeah, exactly. I'm, I am. I will rather do something and fail and learn than plan and not fail. So I'm trying to teach my children that as well. It's okay to it's okay fail. I love failing because as long as you fail forward, you're making traction and you're learning and you're allowing other people to help you succeed as well. So so that's really what my goals are is to learn from all failures that are have in other failures of people. You know, I don't mind learning from other people's failures, and so that's why I like to have a circle of influence in some mentors that kind of lead some some failure stories for me, but but I think that's one of my biggest weaknesses is ready fire aim for. Sure, absolutely. Hang onto, we have. Okay. What is the biggest thing that God stern and of you right now that you're excited about? You feel like maybe it's like God. Thing. Well. Stirring inside of me, I'll have a senior in high school. Yes. So I think I'm overreacting just a little bit. So I'm I prayed daily for the patients of my son in the direction that he's going in is a great kid. Don't get me wrong, but is foreign of productivity is online gaming..

Last night We're gonna hear all about that coming up in about fifteen minutes or so I did notice there's an engagement, ring on ALI'S hand, today so I feel things went pretty well it looks like last night I o one, of the panels. That has, received the most attention this year so far was the tip anniversary, of breaking bad which by the way our friend Bill Burr moderated. That panel, huge is not a guest actor on. The show but a superfan in fact in introducing the panel with almost all of the cast in attendance he called it arguably the greatest show that's ever been on television I mean he put arguably in front of it. So I would agree with that because Top five easy right it's, a great show it's a great show there were two interesting things I've thought. That came out of it first of all everybody's been saying. Look we love better call Saul but. When arena c. Walter Jesse and some of the other characters on better call Saul Vince Gilligan creator of both says we will be sorely remiss if they, didn't appear on the, show before it ended but you will not be seeing either of them upcoming episodes which, is fine by. The way, I look better call Saul is great audits out the other thing, that I thought was interesting and I'd never seen the cast addressed. This before, as you guys have heard the Walking. Dead theory of breaking bad right now Run a, bias someone on the internet came up with the idea that the breaking bad show. In the Walking Dead take place in the same universe and, that it was. Waltz drug his product that caused the. Zombie outbreak oh I think. Is hilarious by the way that's dumb Vince Gilligan said well waltz dead Dow so I guess he could be zombie by agents are out there we should talk about that If Walter white showed up. On the Walking Dead is I would. Be pretty cool I would love it so much anyway it's weird after only five years off the. Air that there were, already looking back on the great it. "A leader manager a leader really confused in biko's look back authors who write about a tobacco school including harvard peter area in kermanshah in a concept of leadership when people quoted all prime very confused and computers in terms of what a leader of the media wieder somebody who ended up look creature and great plain price is really good at what they do they don't want anything to weaken young people would concept what leadership a car i talked to a high school kid parker group last week and they get really they don't have any problem with that right they get it right away well you know it's interesting kevin so first of all i want to ask the make sure i understand what you're saying you really saying is if we look at the definition of the word leader in the definition of manager where they should be two different things as part of what you're saying right right at a leader founder up what could future does the right thing in a manager get things done efficiently and effectively through other well and so where i was going with that is you know it's easy to focus on the manager part of this in fact you have this great quote everybody has had a bad manager many of us have never had a great manager we're going to get to that quote because i think that's really important but i think it's also import the think about the terrible thing we do to leaders by forcing them into the management who'll i i would imagine what we're basically doing is breaking their legs of leadership pretty much private school so so that's the question so what truly is the definition of a leader and he said it they look to the future but beyond that isn't it about assembling the right people the right team no no no no when you up to go through a proper leader of all time right and you're grab people like martin luther king jr wrote apart grade at american workers are more she wasn't trying to influence anybody and to allow schroeder white people my wife and what happened was apparently there were there were empty but in our wake up a walk up to her i would.
