"Larry elder my former colleague on the salem radio network. He has now left because he has felt a calling. I'll talk to larry. I'll talk to all the candidates including kevin faulkner today All of the steerage candidate. I will talk to them in the course of the next two weeks because i think all of is going to be deeply deeply interested in whether or not a big blue state governor who botched cove ed who washed public education who botched spending in. Ppp and who have not done anything about drought or infrastructure paralyzed. California been paralyzed by Just ten years of jerry brown and gavin newsom. I think they're going to rise up and throw gavin newsom out. I have no idea who's gonna win. I'm not going to be involved in moderating debates and so. I'm not going to be involved in in endorsing anyone but i'll bring everyone along and asked them all the same question. I can be meticulously fair. But larry elder had been tossed off of the ballot by some by that. No nothing no name secretary of state. They're afraid of larry. Juicing turnout obviously and not just in the african american community but across the spectrum larry is a is a great an inspirational figures life stories. Very inspirational if you've seen his movies if you read. His book listened to his show for decades and decades. He's ubiquitous in california. They didn't want him on the ballot. They tried to keep moth. He was ordered onto the ballot at the same time Kevin faulkner wanted accurately to record. His title is former mayor san diego and they wouldn't let him put that on there. I don't know what it is. I'll ask him today. What his title will be coming on today in the last segment of the show. But it's going to be a big race. It is going to be a serious raise at the top is doug osea a former congressman larry elder and kevin falkiner john cox former republican nominee for governor. Caitlyn jenner is a serious factor in the race. Kevin kiley who led the recall petition gathering. Dr kevin kiley is a serious figure in the race. All of them will be invited. "big blue" Discussed on Big Blue View

"In all the kind of inside breaking routes but if you're looking for somebody to just run fast and leap over the top corners matter bank of the year guy and guys. We didn't even get to that. I like you know like gosh. I smith out of south carolina very similar to amari. Rogers doesn't quite have the same ceiling. He certainly didn't get the same kind of opportunities that amari rogers did playing with trevor lawrence. But the he could be an interesting slot guy at a day three and then also austin watkins junior who's kind of become my guy at wide receiver just very interesting player out of. Uab does have x. Size but small school. The nfl will probably wait on him and maybe he might be a steel for some team. He took one hundred and forty nine pounds. I i don't think that is a choice like you don't say oh what do i want to come in at sub one fifty for the nfl. Now that's because that's just how big you are so continuing onto are running back group and this is one that i don't think we're going to spend as much time on. We're gonna go a little bit deeper on the tight ends the way that we shape this out. No top ten no first round guys. We had three first second round players. Najji harris travis devante williams two in the second round category. Category kenneth gain. Well michael carter third round featured shuba hubbert trace sermon khalil. Herbert jomar jefferson. And in the fourth round chris evans reminder stevens and kyle hill guys is there one takeaway that you have from this running back group again. This wasn't really our primary focus because the giants frankly are not really in need of a running back. They might take somebody in the fourth round earliest on this board. Heck maybe third. We've seen crazier things happen. But you know who stands out to you the way that we line them up. We line them up. I mean guys a khalil. Herber trae sermon. Jamar jefferson they may fall so we have a mess around guys because there talent but they are running back and i could see a guy like dramatic jefferson and cleo herber being available on day three which that's where you kind of get into okay. Do the giants spend that fourth round. Pick running back. I personally probably wouldn't at that. You can get somebody in sixth round. That may be more fitting for the giants roster. Didn't to have booker. Obviously hopefully you're getting a healthy saquon barkley back so like you said man running back position. It's it's not too much the giants. If i had to some this class up in one or two words it would be top-heavy heavy the i really liked the first five guys on our list we can. You can more or less order the first three. however you want najah harris. He's going to be a good every down running back. I i really like travis t. n. i think he's more physical than a lot of people realize watching his game. He really likes to run behind his pads. And then devante williams. Yeah he has ridiculous contact balance and he's going to be explosive at the nfl level. Mccarter his teammate. He is good as well. And kenneth gain willis guy people probably to be talking about a little bit more after that young like we've got third rounder. But any one of them could fall out of the third round. It's kind of almost a dartboard at that point. Just throw your picking a running back. You're going to get a guy who can help you but probably won't be your starter so wrapping this up with tight ends as the clock is ticking on us to to wrap up or show here we obviously have the top ten player kyle pits sitting in that top. Ten probably going to get drafted highly by someone didn't hit anyone in the first round or first second we went right to second round pad. Fryer moved out of penn state brevin jordan on a miami third round features. Two guys that could end up going in the second hunter along out of boston. College tummy tremble out of notre dame and then our fourth rounders. Kenny abo- train kitty. Zach davidson central missouri. Tighten and then took tony poll jan. Who's an interesting name to be aware of because of his positional background. So out of our tight ends. And i know chris is going to bring up. Kyle pits Who stood out in the ordering that we place them. I'll say this is lot of consensus type of placement. Some people have hunter long. Tommy tremble over. Someone like brennan jordan zombie by bourbon jordan over a path fryer moods but the tight end position similar to the running back position. So much of the quarterback position is. It's not overly sexy. You have kyle pits who a wide receiver and then prime. He can be a solid blocker and he can also be adequate solid receiver as well big body. He's definitely somebody who maybe were second round. Pick the giants maybe looking at a tight end because we don't have a lot of long-term fixtures at tight end right now at on is last year and kyle signing a two year deal and he's injured many have cayton smith so i wouldn't be shocked. Giants look at potato position. Yeah me neither. But yeah i would be. I would be shocked if they looked at the tight end position probably before the third or fourth round. Obviously i don't need to say at this point that kyle pits is a wide receiver. Not tight end. But we haven't listed as a tight end just so we had somebody up there. You know i. I think the one guy who i honestly love watching but have no idea where he is going to fall in the draft. Is tommy trumbull at notre dame yet. He was basically nonexistent as a receiver in their offense. He caught three balls all last year.

trevor lawrence Zach davidson kyle pits amari rogers cayton smith south carolina Jamar jefferson najah harris sixth round tommy trumbull kyle last year chris evans Mccarter Herbert jomar jefferson Tommy fourth round amari Rogers chris

Final 2021 NFL Draft Quarterback Rankings: Trevor Lawrence and Then What?

"So guys let's start off with the quarterbacks as this is probably the least eventful group especially because we just let mark handle this position group. Because that is his forte his speciality. We don't even really need to go through the ordering or anything specific with this one as we're going to do it the other position groups but the thing that's worth noting is it. Mark was highly reluctant to really go past mack jones and then after thinking it over he threw in kellyn mind. Davis mills kyle. Trask jamie newman. And that was pretty much it so i think we can all agree here that the quarterback class in in this year's nfl draft isn't exactly very good on the back end. There's a lot of really good talent at the top but as we start to push towards the second and third round like we don't even have a third rounder in this group. There's not really a lot of good options now. It doesn't really tier that way. Joe obviously you have the tran said quote unquote time trevor. Lawrence. and then. There's a lot of debate on who that actual second quarterback would be adjusted sales from ohio. State zack wilson from byu. Mac from alabama. It seems like the jets. Presume that zack wilson from byu. And i mean. There's a lot of rumors that three the san francisco forty niners are really all in on mac jones but we'll find that out next thursday. It's gonna be interesting. I mean outside of the top five quarterbacks in legit all five of them could go for the giants would be ideal for the new york giants. That would be absolutely but outside of those five. It's it's kind of a crap shoot between callum on. I'll trask davis mills. Yeah i actually wasn't surprised to of see the look of pain almost on mark's face when he had to we almost twisted his arm into throwing out his like second and fourth round quarterbacks. This is a very top heavy quarterback draft class and part of that could just be the position. Where if you've got a quarterback who is able to be accommodated starter. He's probably going to be a first rounder and probably a high first

What's next for the Asia-Pacific?

"Today's special edition of the globalist we are going to focus on asia and what two thousand and twenty one might hold for the region. The obvious answer might seem and will hopefully be almost by definition what with one thing and another a vast improvement but even when asia does not find itself at the epicenter of a global health crisis it remains a complicated part of the world bringing their hostages to fortune to this look ahead to ages. Next twelve months are monocle. Hong kong bureau chief. James chambers monica's. Tokyo bureau chief. Fiona wilson a little later on monaco's bangkok correspondent gwen. Robinson will join us. But first to james and fiona fiona. Let's start with you. In japan as we mentioned in that introduction a new prime minister in office seeking to fill the big shoes and follow the tough act of shinzo are has yet figured out. What kind of prime minister he's going to be is a very good question. I mean i think he's been quite difficult for serger. Falling shinzo obey. Shinzo abe's for all his faults. You know longest serving prime minister in japanese history. So you go quiet trot record. He knows how to win elections. And you know. He survived an awful lot of ups and downs. Scandals also had to deal with the pandemic and ultimately how to deal with illness as well so yeah so quite challenging to come into that role. He started off pretty well. I think his ratings quite good. But i think as people have seen ways handled the pandemic Impressed is ratings have dropped. There's also the issue about the olympics. Will it happen waiting to happen. And i think so. Go really backing this. Huge domestic tourism tourism campaign encouraging. People around the country has gone down pretty badly although it has to be said Tens of millions of people have been guy around the country so they liked that bit of it. But so i think it's quite a tough time for him and interesting. He has to have an election by next autumn. And i think he's in for a pretty rough ride few under just to follow that up. You did the mention the oh word. If there is one thing that japan hopes it can look forward to in two thousand and twenty one it is the two thousand twenty Tokyo postponed because of the obvious right now on new year's day. How likely do they look. It really depends on you. Talk to to be honest. The government would love it to happen. They really wanted to happen dog to the saying we absolutely have to vaccinate everyone. And that's not guaranteed yet. Japan's rollout of vaccinations will be in the spring. And they say you know. We'll have everyone backs in asia by the summer. And if not. I think they are going to have a problem on their hands. There are so many vested interest in the olympics in definitely. The government is under pressure from tv companies. Advertises they want it to happen. Population is still quite lukewarm. I think many people feel it puts this unnecessary pressure on the country. At a time. When is trying to deal with the pandemic. we're still dealing with that joins in hong kong or bring you in now. It being new year's day let's at least out Attempting optimism As we were just discussing. Japan has one great big blue ribbon event to look forward to hopefully in two thousand and twenty one. Two thousand and twenty was a tough year for hong kong for the same reasons. It was a tough year for everybody but for other reasons. Besides is there anything in particular vet. People in hong kong are looking forward to this year. Yes well we've had a rough couple of years here in hong kong so You know when you've hit rock awesome. Which i think that's not hong kong. Has i mean the only way to go his up. So i guess people are looking at s- an economic recovery an a return to business as usual in terms of an making money and getting on that side of things but In looking ahead the the rest of the year. I mean there are few big dates to To look forward to the the first one would be at the end of this month on the polls in january when the the uk's visa essentially for the hong kong people comes into play and up to three million on congas could suddenly decamp to britain. So if that happens if the floodgates opened not lovely be a huge event we've oils essentially being stuck in vung most of twenty twenty so It's been difficult to town at the moments How big that exodus will be. And there's no no re- odds on dejean that which you know. Every time i do meet with hong kong peasant they do generate trying to ask me once. Lights live in the uk Just like an schooling an election. Step in where they should live. What's baath liken. Is it better than oxford as there is. There is a genuine interest. But i guess we're waiting to see how many people actually all through with all of the with these These moves

The polls were wrong, is the system broken?

"A few days after election days, several US House races have you had to been to be decided as voting. Vote counts continue in tight races. But one thing is clear. Democratic hopes of expanding the majority in the U. S House did not happen. They lost seats to Republicans. Fox News anchor Chris Wallace called out pollsters for their quote really bad. 2020 presidential election, miss calling the industry Broken. On Fox News The daily briefing with Dana Perino on Thursday. Mr Wallace said, I wouldn't want to be in the polling business that just seems broken. Here's the exchange earlier. You know, polling. I wouldn't want to be in the polling business that it just seems broken. I don't know how you offensive We kept hearing in 2016. They were going to fix it that they had fixed it. It was really bad. This time. Wisconsin. One of the Poles said that Biden was ahead by 17 points. He wasn't on and you know the other big story of the night. Regardless of what happens for President is the big blow away? That wasn't even a big blue ripple look, looks not certain, but it looks like Republicans will hold on to the Senate on DH. Yes, Democrats will hold on to the House, but they'll of loss. It's not gain seat. So you know, if the Democrats win the presidency, they're going to feel okay about it. But the rest of the rice is it was not a particularly good night for Democrats.

Democrats are expected to retain control of the House, but there are still races to watch tonight

"At this point, there has been no net change in the balance of the US Senate and to talk about that. We're joined by NPR congressional correspondent Susan Davis. I su Hey, Ari. Let's take a broad look at the Senate map. Tonight. Republicans have held a few key seats. The Democrats are still hoping to win back in some cases, in some cases that has escaped their grasp tonight. What's the landscape is you see it now? Well, I think it looks like the path to the Democrats. Flipping control of the Senate is getting narrower. And now as the night goes on, Republicans holding onto seats in Texas and Kansas and Lindsey Graham winning reelection in South Carolina. These were always sort of reacher Democratic seats, But we were looking to them a signs of, you know, maybe this would be a big blue wave night. I think we're seeing enough results coming in that We do not believe this is going to be a big blue wave night. Certainly not down the ballots, so The path for Democrats to win a majority is just getting more difficult. We're still looking and waiting for results in Arizona, where Democrats expect to flip a seat there, and in Maine, where incumbent Senator Susan Collins has had probably her toughest reelection yet, but again, even with those two seats, that might not be enough to get Democrats where they need to be at also know we've been watching North Carolina really closely all night. Largely seen as a bellwether state for how the Senate would go Republican incumbent Thom Tillis is leading there. The Associated Press has not called the race. But Republicans I'm talking to tonight feel pretty good at their chances of holding on to a Senate majority, albeit with fewer seats and explain why that matters what the difference is between if we imagine that Biden wins the presidency, which we certainly don't know, But what is the difference between A Democratic president with a democratically controlled Congress and a Democratic president with a Republican controlled Congress. Well, I think what's interesting is if Republicans do retain control of the Senate. In some ways, it will be a status quo on Capitol Hill. We're looking at still split control of Congress. Democrats are still heavily favored toe hold their majority in the house. There's no reason to doubt that will happen, so whoever the next president is, but whether it be Donald Trump or Joe Biden They're likely to be facing a divided Congress. And what is the lesson? Bin of the past decade of divided government is that it's a recipe for gridlock and for a confrontation, and if that is the outcome of this election, I think the idea that we're going to see big sweeping legislative change becomes less and less likely, and on the House side. I interviewed Speaker Nancy Pelosi yesterday and she was optimistic about Democrats picking up seats tonight so far. Republicans have won a couple of seats they have and they have, and I think that's one of the things I'm looking at. That suggests that this sort of down ballot activity we're seeing is evidence that we're not going to see a big, dramatic Democratic wave tonight. Democrats still forecast to pick up digits seats in the single digits. But you know forecasters, we're going into the night saying they could pick up a CZ. Many is 15 to 20. That seems really unlikely. And we are seeing Democrats losing in some places to Democratic incumbents have already lost in Florida and South Florida, where the party took a bit of a weapon. Tonight. There's Democrats in New York. Max Rose, who was a freshman Democrat who won in the 2018 Democratic wave in a Staten Island district, a district very friendly to Donald Trump. He's down in the polls right now, but That race hasn't been officially called yet either Bellwether races in Virginia, you know, Republican incumbents have been winning their Arkansas so it is definitely not the terrible night that a lot of house Republicans were braced for. And if anything, I think I hear much more optimism coming from Republican strategist and Democrats at this hour, one race that is getting national attention, not because it was competitive, but because of the person who wanted Marjorie Taylor Greene. Somebody who has Made racist statements supported the conspiracy theory Q and on and is now headed to Congress. She is, and I would also note that in one of the Georgia Senate races tonight, Kelly Leffler Well, we can't say she won the runoff because it hasn't been declared. But her conservative opponent, Doug Collins, could seated the race to her, which means she will be the Republican likely going to a runoff in January, and she courted Marjorie Greens endorsement in the Senate race, and I think that speaks to sort of The influence the rising influence that someone like Marjorie Green and her views have inside the Republican Party to The Associated Press is actually just called the Georgia Senate going to run off with you as you were speaking.

It's Election Day. Take a breath. Here's what to expect.

"Politics. And this landscape in particular, Wendy Schiller joins us. She of Brown University, of course on a friend to the program, and Teo Is the station with the chair of political science again at Brown University. Wendy, What is your base case? No. I just get right to it. I think here's what I think will will know from some congressional races, I think, signaling earlier than even the presidential races. We know that there's a lot of people who are elected in 2018 in what we call competitive swing district like Virginia, for example. Leave Illinois. We have a couple of races in Texas that look really tight and are surprisingly competitive. We have a couple of Minnesota, you know if things start to swing in congressional district sooner. For the Democrats. Then you start to think, Okay, maybe buy will have a very good night. But, you know, we'll know about Florida will know about North Carolina will know about Arizona, and we'll know about Georgia, probably, but before midnight tonight, and if all of those swing for Trump If Trump looks really healthy in those states and looks like he could win, then I think things get very, very dicey for Biden, so that's a big sort of vomit or buying only when one of those states You know, one of those four states or look like he's in the lead in a considerable lead in one of those states for him, that sort of have a more relaxed night. But if he if Trump wins, all of Omar looks like he's going to win all of them, I think that that tells us that this sort of blue wave we thought might emerge isn't going to emerge the same way. So, Professor. How do you think the Senate will shake out is there in fact, you know the market's kind of suggesting here today that a blue wave may in fact be in the cards? How do you think that might go in the Senate? That that that's a great question, Paul because you think about the Senate, and you think you know Mitch McConnell is totally immune. This time, you would have thought if there's a big blue wave. You know, The guy has really been the poster boy for the campaign against the Republicans controlling the Senator Mitch McConnell. He's goingto probably breeze to reelection, some a little suspicious of that big blue way for the Senate. Iowa looks neck and neck. You know, we had a recent poll. That's very credible that looks like Joni Ernst can pull it out and stay. You know if Cal Cunningham can win in North Carolina That suggests probably that the Democrats might get 51. If they can win Maine as well. Probably away in Arizona. Probably gonna win Colorado and lose Alabama, so they're looking at probably minimally a 51 49 Republican, or 50, 50 51 49 Democrats. So I think that's where they you know, we don't know. And I think that's where North Carolina becomes so important, even even if we don't know by Trump. You know, it's Cal Cunningham looks like he's really gonna win that race that suggest better things. The Democrats across the board for the Senate Say some of that again. When do you say Arizona is definitely going to go Democrat Texas? What did you say about Texas? And then also, I think, Arizona for Mark Kelly. I think he's been polling very consistently ahead of Martha makes alley. But you can imagine, let's say people voting for more. Kelly, a former astronaut. You know and not voting for Joe Biden. You know, voting for Kelly because they want him over more than Sally and they voted for Trump in Arizona. You didn't see the Democrats winning Senate in Arizona but not winning the presidential race. Then Texas is, you know, shocking right? The turnout in Texas has been absolutely shocking. And but it looks like John Cornyn comfortably ahead of head guard that the challenger there, But I think the issue is that Trump is only basically one point ahead in Texas, which is just you know, if you think about politics, just stunning. Same with Georgia. George will be interesting because it does not get 50% or more against us off. Then you've got to run off elections in Georgia in January, and I think that's really going to be some interesting voting dynamics, so it's possible the Senate Democrats could ultimately end up with a 51 of 52 majority, but I still think it's a bit of a long shot. So Professor if the presidential election becomes contested, what is your kind of base case for how it may play out? I think we could be faced with an unprecedented historic situation. I think you know if we have a tie, for example, if in the Electoral College in December's actually a tie, it goes to the newly elected house, which is expected Thio more Democratic. However, the Republicans still control more votes in state delegations than the Democrats, and that's Probably isn't going to change so you could conceivably have literally the house electing a re electing President Trump but in the Senate. If it's 51 49 with the new Senate and its new Democrats, then they may like Tomahawk. Advice. I mean, really, quite stunning. It's really stunning thing. So I think so many things have changed already in 2020 weather, Trump gets reelected or not, is obviously monumental. But even if he gets reelected, I think the Democrats have shown they know how to mobilize voters, and I think they've shown some of these states have changed a lot in terms of demographics, and they are going to be more competitive, moving forward. Which changes the nature of politics going to 2022. If we know that politicians look at the next election the minute this election is over, and so when we start to think about what the balance of power might be in the Senate house in 2022 these gains the Democrats appear to be making among voters in the states. Changes a lot of dynamics, which will probably change some of the policies coming out of Congress. Yeah, I mean, it's really the African American gold, right, Wendy and how much more of that will see? We're already seeing, you know, a lot more engagement. Yeah. So I think African American who has always been key in North Carolina and Georgia had about 64% African American turnout in 2016. It wasn't enough because those numbers were not hit in in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania among African American voters, and they, you know they may or may not get there. If they get there, I think Biden winds relatively easily. But what's interesting is suburban white women. Of all educational levels seem to be really vehemently at the moment against Trump in the polls, and it could be that instead of the black vote really being key in the Midwest, it ends up being white women. Which would be really interesting shift, you know, mirrors 2018 when white, the majority of white women voted for democratic candidates, But it would change the nature of the Democratic coalition. If that were the deciding factor, So that's what I'm looking for. I'm looking for turnout, particularly in particular counties in Michigan. Well, we still have. A lot of people are gonna vote in person and certainly in Pennsylvania when you were really out of time. But I am desperate to

Biden outperforming Trump in all key swing states, polls say

"Competing tonight for eyeballs. The candidates were supposed to have a debate. Instead, they're speaking at two different town hall forums on two different TV networks at the same time. President Trump There's pressure to persuade some voters to his side. That's underscored by a new NPR PBS NewsHour Marist poll out today, showing Biden jumping to a double digit lead nationally. NPR's senior political editor, Domenico Montanaro joins us now. Hey, Domenico Hales. All right, So we have been seeing the president slide in other polls since the first debate since his illness. What did our poll find here is very similar to other national polls. Biden is now up 54 to 43. That's the highest Biden has gotten in our poll since it began tracking the race in February. Trump notably has gotten has not gotten above 44% in any of those poles. And the president is running out of time, frankly, to turn things around. The thing that stands out in this poll is Biden now is actually narrowly winning white voters by a 51 to 47% margin. Trump one white voters by 20 points in 2016. If Biden were to get that high, it would be the highest recorded for any Democrat even since Jimmy Carter and that could indicate a very big blue wave building up and down the ballot. That's you know, big, of course, because Trump is still within striking distance in key swing states and those will decide the electoral college. We don't know how things are going to go over the next couple of weeks, but white voters are somethingto. Watch for Why Biden. Khun do well in those places. But Baba, But can we just remember for a moment? What happened in 2016? I mean, Hillary Clinton was up by what about 10 points at this point in the race? I guess what I'm wondering is how much should we be reading into this lead? Biden has in the polls right now. Sure. Well, you know the phrase out, believe it when I see it. Well, yeah, I see it, but I'll believe it. When it happens, Anything can happen here. And when you talk to Democrats, they're not satisfied with the poles. Many aren't even looking at them. And they want this election not to be close. So they're doing everything they can. To make that happen. You know, Clinton certainly had a significant lead at this point, not quite this wide, but that race tighten significantly in the final couple weeks. We have to remember, so that's something to watch. But they're really a few reason reasons why 2020 is not 2016 1st. There's been far less volatility in the polls. This time around, there are far fewer undecided voters are poll shows. Just 5% of people are persuadable, meaning people undecided or who could say they know they might change their minds? Third parties don't seem to be playing as much of a factor. And, frankly, surveys and are reporting are telling us that Biden is just better liked than Hillary Clinton overall, Huh? Okay, well, I want to

Source -- Tennessee Titans players test positive for coronavirus

"Hello everyone, and welcome to fill Lotto's fantasy corner where onto week five ladies and gentlemen. But we've hit yet another snag with Covid Nineteen. We expected there to be disruptions throughout the season but now multiple teams are starting to test positive and it seems to be mitigating the possibility of certain games this week the Tennessee Titans are at the forefront of this snag that the NFL's run into. Corey Davis was just placed on the Reserve Kobe Nineteen List and the titans who were a day away from returning to their facilities. We'll have to have two straight days of negative testing from players and personnel until they can resume activities at their facilities Tennessee. Now has twelve players on the COVID nineteen list since the team may not be able to practice the game against buffalo remains in. Doubt the League according to NFL DOT COM Tom Pal. Cerro has launched an investigation actually into the titans and they have seen a corona virus outbreak spread among their roster and are believed to have conducted an illegal offsite workout which believe can be found on twitter. There's a video or something along those lines kind of floating around and some around the League believe the League is about to. Really, come down hard on the Tennessee. Titans. We're talking about a historic type of punishment against the Tennessee Titans Mike Florio talked about it on pro football talk in addition to levying a six figure fines against the for the coaches not complying with masks protocols. The NFL has also threatened to strip some teams of draft picks and that would set this baseline and they actually might use the titans. As, a team to be the example for this because they really need to come down hard and they really need to not allow these teams to kind of do as they feel. And hold these workouts when they're all supposed to be in quarantine cause a virus is spreading throughout their team.

IBM: Why Eyes are Fixed on Big Blue

"With big blue. However, IBM is spinning off its IT infrastructure division into a new publicly traded company that that is the legacy part of IBM's business. Or shares of IBM up about seven percent. So that's helping to boost the Dow and. Arvind Krishna who took over as CEO of IBM back in April. not, really wasting anytime setting the direction for IBM's future. No, no it a little bit a little bit Sati, Nadal ask if you if you will. In anything that makes a lot of sense I mean it was interesting to note the pre-market enthusiasm IBM world pretty quickly in the market opened. Bu-. Whenever you can get the word spinoff and unlock value and cloud in the same release you've got to feel pretty good about that especially if you're IBM. So I. Think this move is really this is this is the final move in trying to turn a page for this company. In IBM is really geared toward trying to become identified as a cloud company period in. So that's what this ultimately is. It spits off spins off a little bit of a legacy part of the business. It gives them the chance to really focus on where they feel like the puck is going so to speak. Doesn't make me want to own IBM more now. No I don't think so I mean I probably honestly if I were shareholder. Maybe look at it as a nice time to cut bait and you know pull the old George Costanza. Leave on a high note But this really does go all the way back to the nineteen ninety s when former management identified the need to pivot away from. The reliance on hardware sales and really focus more on software and services. and. So what this will do ibm the new IBM will focus on it's it's open a hybrid cloud platform which. Represents a massive massive opportunity I mean that's one trillion dollar opportunity which. I listen I. Mean we talk about large growing market opportunities all the time, and that's obviously a big. So you can't you can't neglect. Considering that and The spinoff company the yet to be named company. I don't know that I. Feel. So strongly about one that's focused more on managing and modernizing client owned infrastructures, I mean it's a big market opportunity but is it just legacy IBM businesses never really been compelling to begin with?

"big blue" Discussed on Big Blue View

"Right now, the giants it own four, sit with the first overall pick in this upcoming draft. Now, that is obviously only after four games. So literally, anything can happen in change in that timespan, but the conversation has to be started now because people are already talking about it if the giants are in that first overall pick spot, do they pass up on drafting a generational type quarterback talent like Trevor Lawrence there's a lot of people that are adamant about saying if you're in that spot. You can't pass up on it. No matter who your quarterback is. If you're drafting first overall, you have to make that pick others. I think would agree it's probably better to try and find a way to trade back out get some more draft and build around Daniel Jones or if for the case of the jets built around Sam Darnold, where do you guys sit on this? Do you think it's a little crazy to bring up the giants possibly drafting Trevor Lawrence I think that if? If you're talking about the number one overall pick and you're talking about Trevor Lawrence I think you're in a situation where? First of all of the giants obviously don't want to be there. The ideal thing would be for for the giants to play well, enough that they could perhaps capitalize on having an early pick by trading out getting some some assets but I think two things are at play. If if you go and sixteen and you're that bad, I've always said that that part of the thing about this season. Is Finding out if Daniel Jones is going to take steps forward to prove to you that he's that he's your quarterback of the future if you go. Oh and sixteen and Daniel Jones continues to make the mistakes that he's making. He's showing you that he's not that guy and you almost have to go ahead and pick Trevor Lawrence and start over again. You just can't. You know if you've gotten to that point you you pretty much can't say. We're GONNA just continue down this road and continue you know do what the bears have done and sort of knock their heads against the wall with Mitch Trubisky admit your mistake and start over for me and I'm I'm kinda getting a little bit long winded. I know for me. The more interesting situation is what happens if you're two or three or four, and you're talking about Justin fields and trae lance do you then? Try to package those picks and move down. And get a hall of picks because. You know. You. Guys know these guys a little bit better than I do but for me, the guarantee is trevor. Lawrence or the closest thing to a guarantee is Trevor Lawrenson. Rolling the dice with the other two guys but I think for me if you're if you're sixteen, you start over. One hundred percent agree with ed I mean if you're that bad. To have to start over at that point and I haven't done extensive evaluations on seals or Trey Lance I don't really know their skill sets all that well as of right now but I think all things on the table at the giants are picking that high. Once again, if they have to explore all options if you could trade back, you gotta look at that as a possibility I know David cattleman literally never done that before with the first round pick. So I just hope that the giants do there. and Ex Haynick. Dominate this part, but but the other part of that conversation and people kill me about Dave gettleman but if the giants are Owen Sixteen. And considering picking another quarterback. Let me just say that Dave Gettleman can't be the general manager making that pick now he won't either at that point in my opinion at least he will quote unquote retire and somebody else would step in. Yeah. That's just what would absolutely happening I'm not even sure it would be own sixteen if they're two and fourteen, maybe even four twelve again and I don't think any of those records is really out of the question right now. But bringing. Trevor. Lawrence. Speaking of Dave Cattleman, one of his first press conferences pre-draft back in twenty eighteen. He talked about quarterback hell and I think the giants need to figure out sooner rather than later as soon as possible whether or not. They could find themselves in quarterback hell whether or not Dangle Jones can be the guy going forward and I mean an honest evaluation not just looking at it as you know hopefully, maybe yell he made a few you made some splash plays some highlight reel plays here or there but the down down snap to snap consistency isn't there there's too many liability plays the. Arizona cardinals. I think are the. Best example right now, everybody was high on Josh Rosen coming out yet. He had that picture perfect throwing motion but once he got into the NFL, it just wasn't there and granted they had the big shift in head coach they moved on. To Cliff Kingsbury after one year, and he brought with him a completely different philosophy on football one that just happened to. Kyle Murray. A hand in glove and he has really exploded onto the scene over the last year but that kind of fearlessness. To admit your mistake not get caught in some cost fallacy not get blinded by your own. Confirmation biases that honesty is I think something the giants really need if they're drafting in the top five period. I think you know the thing that I have always said about the twenty twenty season? Is. I. Don't care what the record is I don't care if it's three and thirteen I don't care if it's five and eleven I don't care if it's eight. This season's really about two things for me. It's about finding out if Joe Judge is the right head coach to go forward with. And I don't again I don't care. You know it's four. I don't see anything that tells me at this point. That Joe Judge was a bad higher. I think that you can go forward with Joe Judge I. Think John Mara was right when he hired me said, we're just GONNA have to have patience with this guy. He's thirty eight years old. We're GONNA have to have more patients with him than we've had with the last couple of hires, which means that unless he completely loses the locker room like Ben mcadoo did. Joe. Judges your head coach of the giants for three or four years at least an it's just gonNa be that way they're going to go as long as they can. The other part of that equation is finding out if Daniel Jones is the right quarterback and if you're if you're in a position to draft Trevor Lawrence. I. Think you've come to the obvious answer..

NFL suspends all activities for Titans after positive COVID-19 cases

"Few players from Tennessee titans tested positive for in nineteen, which has prompted the NFL from suspending all activities bore the titans until more tests come out well, they came out The three titans week for opponent are the three steelers initial reports said that the game would be postponed until Monday or possibly even Tuesday. But an additional titans player tested positive on Thursday morning, which led to the temporary cancellation of this contest. The Titans and steelers will not be playing their game this week and the NFL must find a way to rescheduled game by maneuvering weeks and or even possible that the game may be lost. We don't really know yet by the way. NFL has spoken about issues such as this. It seems like they'll do whatever they can within reason to reschedule the game. As we know, the sport of football is a lot different than other sports and rescheduling games could be an issue due to the nature of the sport, but we're GonNa have to see what transpires throughout the year. This may not be the only time that something like this actually occurs and when it happened with the Saint Louis Cardinals Baseball, they could just reschedule doubleheaders at our seven. Years later in the season and kicked, that can down the road. I don't know if you can do that in the NFL is such a physical game and players need time to rehab throughout a week. They need time to heal because our bodies are so sore after a football game but. As. Of Right now, take Juju. James Connor. Big Ben King Henry Corey Davis Tanna Hill and whoever you were starting out of your lineups and adjust sucks I know hopefully some of you are in leagues where Your Commissioners on top of coordination and they allow you to drop without penalty and pick up after the week where no one else in you your league can go in and scoops. You dropped him connor no, one can pick them up and just be reassigned to your team from assuming not all leagues have that kind of freedom. Or that type of commissioner a Kinda does take a lot of work got enforcing laws to which are pretty cool right

'Avatar 3' is nearly done filming

"So. You have Avatar here, and if anybody remembers because you're like Oh yeah, he's still making it. Very much. So James, Cameron. Right now he? Says that New Zealand has been able to get a handle. On Kobe nineteen so well that now he's resuming. Finishing Avatar three. Which is ninety five percent done and Avatar to is. One, hundred percent done. And you can read the headliner here from deadline. James Cameron says ever to filming is one hundred percent complete avatar three, ninety, five, percent complete praises New Zealand for Kobe response you probably saying, yeah, whatever man that's what they say. You know they always important as we see in never works out that way I don't believe him. Well, if you don't believe they headline right there maybe not only you'll feel better if you hear from the man himself James Cameron. But also. From the man who made James Cameron the man of versa. Honest wasn't Nigger Aka the terminator. They had a little discussion about this over of zoom call and. James Cameras steams he can't tell you details, but he seems a very confident that New Zealand. They know what they're doing over there, which allows him to finish his movie. Now before I go all the House, go movie question if you don't mind. Okay. All right. Mental. Kind of interview I just is anything I. Know you're in the middle of shooting Aba I know you've to get up to the individual because of the time changing into sealant the NORAD stop. Dummy sanding newsworthy at that you should know from administer movie coming out in the theaters in what's going on. I. Love Kobe, hit us like it hit everybody it is hard. We lost about four and a half months of production as a result of that we've rolled around one more full year for release in December of twenty two that's been that's been announced already. Now that doesn't mean that I have an extra year to finish the film because the day we deliver Avatar to will start working on finishing avatar three. So where we are right now down in New Zealand shooting, we're shooting the remainder of the live action. We've got about ten percent left to go where one hundred percent complete on Avatar to you know just gotTa stop here real quick and just say I'm looking at. autosport house and it looks adorable. Core I'm looking at this big as Mary here in the back. He's got these little teacups look China look you know little plates and little animals back there. He looks like the this House looks like the House of the old woman that Babysat the kids in the neighborhood. Multitudes man you think he's just a strong man he's sophisticated as hook it really see him going to like antique shows and buying China sooner having tea parties with his wife was up and. I. You know I. Mean this funny. He does this big as guy that got this sense of the Shelf Baker. I like the meanwhile we're James Cameron living. That's my question. It seems very desolate like obviously he's on. His home or whatever. But you think you would spruce that thing up. It looks like a fucking like not a motel, but there's nothing on the walls man got the. Flour barely staying alive. Looks like he's at the W.. Two is about underwater and he's not watering those goddamn plants. Not at all, but he loves blue got a big. Blue Door? A Little. That was the way I can actually know if it was at James Cameron Movie, the Terminator Robert Patrick shows up in terminator two and that Shit immediately goes blue true lies shot in that blue tent for the entire movie. He's got a distinct style say that I believe he actually had a cat spray painted blue. Around the house inspiration, it's a genius I can do this. It's inspiration. You'll get it in twelve years whatever want to give me a couple of years actually kept talking. To resume that conversation right here we're short of ninety, five percent complete on on. The painting. That's a door God damnit. We're just we're very lucky in that. We chose this as our production site years ago we made the first film here in New Zealand and it turns out to be one of the its its ranking to the first or second best country in the world for its Kobe. Response. Germany's in the number one spot sometimes New Zealand's in the number one spot. So now all I do is sit back. And wait for the rest of the world to get their shit together. Breaking Down the New York Giants Initial Practice Squad

"Other thing going on with the giants roster is the shaping of their practice squad. We're not gonNA project who we think is going to be on the practice squad because as were recording it, we should receive some type of news by the end of the day Sunday, who is on the practice squad for some reason? You probably noticing this to the giants have been taking their time. To the fullest extreme to put in all this information, their fifty three man roster I think was announced. Ten or fifteen minutes after the required four o'clock deadline. Meanwhile, every other team had already gotten their stuff in before that chalk that up to Dave gettleman and Joe Judge trying to take their time in re be very detailed with it. They also this is official that we already talked about some of the claims but they have claimed offense tackle Jackson, Barton, wide receiver, Damian Rally, and then also safety Adrian Colbert they could either end up on the roster or be pushed to the practice squad. But the one thing that's worth noting and we're GONNA talk about the practice once official on another episode but it's worth noting that this season the practice squad is very. Very unique. It's bigger than it typically is and teams are going to be using it as a shuffling group that if someone gets sick, they can send them home quickly, sign them to come play right away they're gonNA travel. I would bet with most of if not all of these guys and have the bill availability to sign them immediately in the case of an emergency yet honestly to for me, that's kind of a step closer to what the practice squad should be anyway I I've never really liked the practice squad the way it has been where it's limited the guys who can be on it are very limited in the amount experience they can have and. They're really not protected at all. So any team can basically swipe a player off any other teams practice squad on very little notice. and. To me I I really do like these changes to the practice squad rules. The fact that it's bigger that the teams can keep more players around they don't have quite the same constraints on. Experience that we've seen in years past and the fact that they can promote guys from the practice squad to the active roster on basically ninety minutes notice. So I really like the flexibility that that gives teams and I'm sure we're going to be seeing teams take advantage of that this year probably in ways that the NFL isn't exactly planning on. And I wouldn't be surprised if there are certain aspects of this short-term practice squad for this season that are maybe tried to be translated into next year or come next CBS negotiation asked for by the players. So more players can stick around and be retained by their various teams it. It is a lot better like you said, Chris compared to way the way. That they've done it previously, it's better to have more guys if you can carry as many guys as they are allowed to this

restaurants like this to re open their dining rooms but boss believes many of the critics may be able to work from home while still collecting a paycheck to say that when they still have all of those things we want to be here to make sure that everybody who wants to go and have the opportunity to can take care of themselves and their family that's the American way as for Kim cassette as she feels comfortable eating inside says there's a sense of home here and it all starts off with waffle house what can't get any more American the waffle house right many will never feel comfortable venturing out or re opening a business without a vaccine and most experts think that's at least a year away some scientists are considering rather unconventional ways to speed up the process one of them raises some moral questions we're joined by Dr Angela Baldwin of Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx is also part of our medical team here at ABC news Dr Baldwin this method involves injecting healthy adults with live coronavirus correct so this is called a challenge trial where healthy adults are divided into two groups one group received a placebo and the other group receives the potential vaccine but both groups are injected with the virus and the point is for them to for researchers to see how effective the vaccine is against the virus and this kind of speed up the timeline because normally in a normal situation what somebody receives a vaccine the researchers just have to kind of wait for that person to naturally be infected with whatever virus or disease that the vaccines intended to treat is it the only way to do this definitely not this normally vaccine trials go through three phases phase one phase to help determine the specific dosing that safe and then you know an overall kind of safety of the vaccine and then in phase three is when they do these large very large trials for the enroll thousands of patients and a half receive the vaccine the other half isn't but then they just kind of track them and follow them throughout their daily lives and see okay all this group you know they were exposed to the virus and it looks like the vaccine worked the problem is these are just very long and then kind of a bit cumbersome and so that's why some researchers are proposing this challenge trial the kind of by pass phase three doesn't raise any moral dilemmas definitely a moral dilemmas they do try to mitigate the risk but the fact of the matter is we are taking otherwise healthy adults and injecting them with a virus that could have serious consequences including death the other side they do try to mitigate the risks they would only be enrolling healthy adult volunteers without underlying medical conditions but the problem is we do know that unfortunately there are young people who are still dying from call the nineteen you may also not have any underlying conditions there's still so much we don't know that just makes it's completely unsafe and the other problem is if somebody does get very sick you know we're dealing with a health care crisis right now work the critical care that one may need may not always be readily available and resources may be scarce so to inject somebody of the virus and the potentially kill them and put them in a situation where they urgently need critical care that might not be available raises a few eyebrows from from office I guess it's tempting though when everyone wants the vaccine this seems like the speediest way you know if they could and and one of the questions we ask ourselves is how much does this speed up the the normal course of us finding a vaccine right so if it only speeded up by one month maybe not that great of an idea of the speeded up by six months eight months okay maybe but also the thing to realize is that the challenge trials only one part of a of a two step process these researchers are suggesting would replace phase three so you still have the challenge of trial where the people are given the live virus but then in the second part they would need to test the vaccine on the most vulnerable members of the population right the elderly people under my medical conditions these are the people who really need the vaccine so we need to make sure it's safe in them so during the second phase they would give each of those types of people the vaccine but they would not be injecting them with the with the virus so that means we still in this kind of things were waiting for these people to in the natural course of their days be exposed to the virus so it's really not short meaning that the for the third phase by that much if you think about it who's going to decide ultimately you know that's a very good question I think ultimately we have these things called internal review boards RBC and they are designed to look out for the welfare of participants in subjects in studies and I think it's basically going to fall on the individual IRB's to decide whether or not they're going to allow this to to commission their institution Dr Angela Baldwin of the ABC news medical unit while the world waits for a vaccine all of us adapt to new routines out of our offices and working from say the kitchen table firms are now debating how and whether to repopulate offices small workers are deciding whether they're comfortable taking off the sweat pants and putting back on the suit consumer minute vices law firm said soy Hauser group you joins us from Chicago we're all kind of getting used to this aren't we yes you know I think this is going better than many law firms thought it would technology working well generally people are productive at home some people even like it what's not to like you can be in your pajamas and still accomplish the same kind of work you know in a candid moment a lot of lawyers would probably tell you that and I think that there is upside for both lawyers and for firms to do that the flexibility is something the people of wanted since before the crisis in some law firms before the crisis we're taking small steps towards being more flexible about where people worked and they saw upside both in attracting talent who wanted to be working where they were comfortable where they were where it was convenient also for the law firms there's a big expense of course on the real estate side real estate for most law firms is their second biggest expense behind paying lawyers so they're interested long term many law firms are in using less space why would any firm go back to renting expensive space again if this is working it's that's a great question different firms are different so some firms before the crisis we're happy to move towards less space and I think that the crisis will accelerate the move towards less space for those firms other firms the before the crisis had a culture of being in the office together they placed a premium on facetime and I think after the crisis some of those firms will revert to form and they will want to be in the office more so there will be some that accelerate towards work at home more and take on less space and I think others will want to snap back to how they were previously law firms like many other firms can be notoriously inflexible though about people's time has the shortest that it can work differently I think that this crisis has proven that actually can work pretty well for many lawyers in many firms different lawyers have practices that lend themselves to working remotely so for example a lawyer who needs to appear in court or take depositions in person that doesn't work as well remotely of course others though K. and worked quite productively from anywhere and that works for the firm in for their clients when you ask people what the impediments are to remote working some of the things that come up are things like whether working remotely as an impediment to mentoring opportunities for young and up and coming lawyers they asked about whether working remotely as an impediment to a training those lawyers and they also ask about whether working remotely is an impediment to collaborating together and so some firms will find ways to address those impediments and work around them others will feel the need to be a person more often Kent Zimmerman a principle that's only because our group joining us from Chicago coming S. B. latest news and talk you're listening to an ABC news special copay nineteen what do you need to know in the B. C. news correspondent Amy Robach and with me now is ABC chief medical correspondent Dr Jen Ashton and there is some big news about colleges and universities considering re opening in the fall let's go through this systematically how it would work well first of all I mean we have to acknowledge is a complex situation in the health and safety of not just this population but the entire college and university community is obviously priority number one but here are some things that we know at this point medically we know that the college age group is at a lower risk of severe covert nineteen disease we also know that in this age group and in this environment social distancing is definitely going to be uniquely challenging and we also know that there are people in these communities whether they're college students with pre existing medical conditions or the staff or faculty that worked in and around colleges that could be vulnerable and may be at higher risk as well what options should be considered well I think there are some theories that are worth really exploring the first thing is is can we modify the timing of the spacing some of the classroom activities some of the other activities they shouldn't be looked at like an all or none decision in terms of sports theatre dormitory dining all of those things could be modified it's not an all or one situation and we have to remember that masks once the CDC recommended that for the general public they may be a key tool in reducing the transmission of this virus in the college communities from a health standpoint what do we still need to figure out well look luckily we have a little bit of time to do this but I think there is still a lot of things we don't know where to begin with we don't know what the role of rapid testing on a college campus can look like we don't know whether to college students and whether our kids will actually be compliant with some of the social distancing measures and we really don't know when you talk about risks which is worse right now going back to college in some way shape or form or take taking another year plus and not going back you both have to weigh those risks head to head and it's not an easy answer all right Dr Jenna you're sticking around to answer questions in just a bit in the meantime we turn out A. B. C.'s kera Phillips in Washington DC with the latest headlines for us hi Amy well these are some of the stories that were watching plans to re open the economy are taking shape in a number of states restaurants in Atlanta starting up again with new rules in place for diners today including tables six feet apart and servers wearing masks and in New Jersey governor Phil Murphy is unveiling what he calls responsible re opening driven by quote data science and common sense and Texas governor Greg Abbott also detail in the plan for ending his statewide stay at home orders and re emerging for the first time today after pretty brutal bout of the virus British prime minister Boris Johnson apologizing for being away for three weeks and warning it's too soon to end the locked down in the U. K. speaking outside number ten Downing Street Johnson says we are now beginning to turn the tide on this disease but says he refuses to throw away the public's effort and sacrifice by relaxing the lockdown too soon thank you well the mayor of Las Vegas made headlines last week when she volunteered the city as a control group to see if social distancing is working joining us now to talk about how and when Las Vegas will reopen as Clark County commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick welcome commissioner and I want to first start by asking how you feel about mayor Goodman's comments well I don't agree with her you know my colleagues and I who oversee the beautiful Las Vegas Strip bill that we have to our highest priority needs to be the health and safety of not only our residents we work on this trip but the visitors who come to visit us yeah and that said the mayor also feels hotels casinos restaurants should reopen right now when do you think they should reopen and what will the economic impact three well we've been working every single day with our medical experts across the state a resort association are McCarron airport and the convention that's already so we are working in that direction testing is the key to getting us back open and we are in the middle of expanding that testing opportunities so we will open only when it's safe and we have the most stringent priorities and policies in place can you talk a little bit about specifically how the county is working with the casinos there and other businesses to prevent another outbreak when you do eventually re open well I thought back to we we have been successfully doing social doesn't change we are ramping up casting today we can do up to two thousand tests today we anticipate by June first being able to ten thousand task our hotel partners and our airports they're making some adjustments so that our visitors bilberry see it coming back and that is our priority and we'll invite everybody back when we feel that we can meet those and do you do you how do you feel the people of Clark County are doing in terms of doing that social distancing and following the guidelines you know we're doing a great job every single day we look at different ways I mean even as we bring back our own stops we have to think about how do we have that social distancing and the grocery stores we have lines out for running grocery lines one way I'm so I I'm very proud of what we're doing in our community on the social distancing face while commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick we know it's a tough job thank you for leading the people who use Sir we appreciate your time today thank you get back to work some schools may still be close so where do we go from there the CEO of childcare provider bright horizons Stephen Kramer is here to tell us and Stephen thanks for being with us I know that you have locations daycare locations across the country how many of your facilities remain open so we have a hundred and fifty centers here across the United States that are continuing to be operational and are clearly working under covert nineteen protocols yeah that is pretty surprising I think for a lot of us and and I'm sure so helpful to so many who need your facilities how are you able to keep them open safely absolutely so first and foremost we are focused on those hundred and fifty centers on providing care for essential workers most typically healthcare workers in so first and foremost we are really focused on that particular population in terms of keeping our staff as well as children safe we have implemented processes and procedures in conjunction with a medical expert Dr Kristen Moffett from Boston children's hospital whereby we are ensuring that we are able to keep children safe keep staff safe and really make sure that we are operating both from hygiene perspective as well as from a safety perspective really in an appropriate way so hundred fifty centers open right now what changes will need to be implemented though when day cares fully open back up yes so I I think families can expect a number of changes from what they experience prior to the pandemic also examples include pick up and drop off so often times they will be seen either staggered pick up and drop offs or alternatively it may be curbside pick up and drop off I think certainly I health checks either being asked to be done at home or being done at the centre when they arrive is an important element of keeping everyone safe in addition to that the teachers they will be wearing masks when when families returned and certainly in the bright horizons centers that are open today our teachers are wearing masks also those are the kinds of things they might expect in addition to enhanced hygiene protocols yeah it's Stephen is there anything parents can do now to be prepared for what's to come I think there are things that parents can be doing I think first and foremost it's really important for parents to make sure that they are checking the health of their child each morning and each and every day to make sure that they are not bring their child if they have any sign or symptom of a health issue I think in addition to that children won't be used to the teachers wearing masks that's not something that they would have experienced previously and so my recommendation would be to as a parent start wearing masks around the house start to educate your child that heroes wear masks and certainly the teachers in the centers are heroes and so experiencing and exposing them to that concept is important and then finally I would encourage pet parents to prepare themselves they need to have a little bit of extra patience and I would encourage them to show appreciation for the teachers who are working tirelessly through both now and in the future in the child care center environment I think so many parents are home right now have a absolute renewed appreciation of teachers and I love what you said heroes wear masks that's awesome Stephen Kramer thank you so much for being with us today we appreciate it thank you for having me UP next right here those masks are suddenly everywhere and officials say it's a good idea but the sight of them can frighten our children some techniques for helping them deal when we come back this can be seen news special continues after this eleven eleven thirty Ashton will masks and face coverings have become such a familiar sight around the country in this corona virus pandemic with a number of states now requiring them during visits to essential businesses and on public transportation but the sight of them can be scary especially for children A. B. C.'s Ariel Russia has more on what you can do to help lessen their anxiety Hey there any as you know kids can ask some pretty tough questions and this can actually be scary for them as you mention when they see people out there wearing masks they see their parents wearing masks but experts say there are ways to help them adapt to this new normal and some of them are not only just educational but they can even be fine faking street shuttered businesses empty playgrounds the images of this covert nineteen pandemic are hard for even adults to process but for kids like four year old alley and five year old Adriana Alfano seeing people wearing masks is perhaps the most jarring it they just I was really strange a new normal forcing families like the L. fan I was to have some tough conversations it does open up both a big can of worms and a lot of different questions public face covering now recommended by the CDC for adults and children ages two and up how do you think the imagery of people wearing masks can affect kids well initially when kids see someone wearing a mask depending on what they associate it with before it could bring up some beer new dad and entrepreneur Trevor George and his wife Morgan wanted to help ease that anxiety we believe that in order to solve this everyone has to do their part Michigan based teacher company struggling when the pandemic hit economy it had the two created mass club issues like it has to be a way you can help and work with your branch at the same time retiring more than fifty percent of their furloughed employees or adults with a lot of characters like hello Kitty Wonder Woman Batman and Superman we have an eight month old and when my wife and I put on our Batman or Wonder Woman masks he reaches for the colors that has a familiar logo can help your child more east club a passion project with added and for every mass that's purchased we donate a medical grade version two first responders in partnership with the first responders children's need and creating a bright spot family having some fun some levity and then mixing them with information Trevor says that they have donated nearly one hundred thousand masks already any clearly this idea of wearing a branded logo mask and also doing some good while you're in the process of that is really resonate yeah it's a win win I was even saying I know kids it's scary to them it's scary to me sometimes when you see people because it is jarring seeing circle in masks all of a sudden what tools can parents use when they talk about this with their children well doctor Taylor says it's important to impress upon your kids that they're taking care of themselves they're taking care of others this is a safety precaution just like wearing a helmet when you ride a bike or buckling your seat belt when you're in the car and she also says that it's important to have these honest conversations with your kids just be up front with them lead by example when you're comfortable wearing your own mask children see that and they're more at ease as well makes sense and kids are certainly resilient aerial thank you so much for bringing us this we appreciate it for gonna turn out to Dr Jen Ashton for some thoughts on this for some perspective here I mean we have to remember it was just recently that the CDC made a major change of revising their guidelines recommending face coverings for the general public not to protect the person wearing the mask but to protect others so as the saying we're so used to hearing here in New York City it's not about me it's about a week but here's the interesting thing from a medical and scientific standpoint remember that the data on face coverings or masks protecting you was done in a lab right that's why we say in a hospital setting we put masks on sick people with a different kind of mask on health care workers but there's a big difference between scientific research done in a lab setting and those done in a real life setting so we're seeing one of major Boston Medical Center has dropped the rate of its staff cases of covert nineteen dramatically once they instituted a policy where everyone staff patients and visitors started wearing masks so we'll see how it plays out in our country Dr Ashton thank you and when we come back the army of volunteers in one city working hard to help frontline heroes shine these special continues after this about half of all men will experience ET or PT fact both E. Peachtree street at ninety five point five WSP Atlanta's news and talk is an NBC news special covert nineteen what you need to know here is ABC news correspondent Aaron Katersky it's been weeks since most of us have been out to eat today restaurants in Georgia we're allowed to open for dine in service as the state continues to loosen coronavirus restrictions Tennessee's re opening retail stores Kentucky's re openings of health care services dog groomers can reopen in Wisconsin we're corona virus has hit harder it's different the governor of New Jersey said today restrictions continue indefinitely and the governor of New York said he expected to extend them for the city and its suburbs but the lunch crowd came back in parts of Georgia as our affiliate WSB found a chance to eat inside a restaurant Kim Kucera says this Brookhaven waffle house was her first choice the family hang out we are talking about the whole field in this family in the champ wasn't here this day but the company says no matter who walks in some things haven't changed they're going to get that welcome the waffle house the greeting that we're all excited to be able to give them for when they come in it'll be very clear where they can and cannot said company spokesperson in Gerry boss showed us the big red tape strapped across some of the books and some of the schools are also off limits to maintain safe social distancing the cooks and servers are all wearing masks and X. marks the spot where you can stand as you wait for a seat some don't like governor camp's decision to allow restaurants like this to re open their dining rooms but boss believes many of the critics may be able to work from home while still collecting a paycheck to say that when they still have all of those things we want to be here to make sure that everybody who wants to go and have the opportunity to can take care of themselves and their family that's the American way as for Kim cassette as she feels comfortable eating inside says there's a sense of home here and it all starts off with waffle house what can't get any more American the waffle house right many will never feel comfortable venturing out or re opening a business without a vaccine and most experts think that's at least a year away some scientists are considering rather unconventional ways to speed up the process one of them raises some moral questions we're joined by Dr Angela Baldwin of Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx is also part of our medical team here at ABC news Dr Baldwin this method involves injecting healthy adults with live coronavirus correct so this is called a challenge trial where healthy adults are divided into two groups one group received a placebo and the other group receives the potential vaccine but both groups are injected with the virus and the point is for them to for researchers to see how effective the vaccine is against the virus and this kind of speed up the timeline because normally in a normal situation what somebody receives a vaccine the researchers just have to kind of wait for that person to naturally be infected with whatever virus or disease that the vaccines intended to treat is it the only way to do this definitely not this normally vaccine trials go through three phases phase one phase to help determine the specific dosing that safe and then you know an overall kind of safety of the vaccine and then in phase three is when they do these large very large trials for the enroll thousands of patients and a half receive the vaccine the other half isn't but then they just kind of track them and follow them throughout their daily lives and see okay all this group you know they were exposed to the virus and it looks like the vaccine worked the problem is these are just very long and then kind of a bit cumbersome and so that's why some researchers are proposing this challenge trial the kind of by pass phase three doesn't raise any moral dilemmas definitely a moral dilemmas they do try to mitigate the risk but the fact of the matter is we are taking otherwise healthy adults and injecting them with a virus that could have serious consequences including death the other side they do try to mitigate the risks they would only be enrolling healthy adult volunteers without underlying medical conditions but the problem is we do know that unfortunately there are young people who are still dying from call the nineteen you may also not have any underlying conditions there's still so much we don't know that just makes it's completely unsafe and the other problem is if somebody does get very sick you know we're dealing with a health care crisis right now work the critical care that one may need may not always be readily available and resources may be scarce so to inject somebody of the virus and the potentially kill them and put them in a situation where they urgently need critical care that might not be available raises a few eyebrows from from office I guess it's tempting though when everyone wants the vaccine this seems like the speediest way you know if they could and and one of the questions we ask ourselves is how much does this speed up the the normal course of us finding a vaccine right so if it only speeded up by one month maybe not that great of an idea of the speeded up by six months eight months okay maybe but also the thing to realize is that the challenge trials only one part of a of a two step process these researchers are suggesting would replace phase three so you still have the challenge of trial where the people are given the live virus but then in the second part they would need to test the vaccine on the most vulnerable members of the population right the elderly people under my medical conditions these are the people who really need the vaccine so we need to make sure it's safe in them so during the second phase they would give each of those types of people the vaccine but they would not be injecting them with the with the virus so that means we still in this kind of things were waiting for these people to in the natural course of their days be exposed to the virus so it's really not short meaning that the for the third phase by that much if you think about it who's going to decide ultimately you know that's a very good question I think ultimately we have these things called internal review boards RBC and they are designed to look out for the welfare of participants in subjects in studies and I think it's basically going to fall on the individual IRB's to decide whether or not they're going to allow this to to commission their institution Dr Angela Baldwin of the ABC news medical unit while the world waits for a vaccine all of us adapt to new routines out of our offices and working from say the kitchen table firms are now debating how and whether to repopulate offices small workers are deciding whether they're comfortable taking off the sweat pants and putting back on the suit consumer minute vices law firm said soy Hauser group you joins us from Chicago we're all kind of getting used to this aren't we yes you know I think this is going better than many law firms thought it would technology working well generally people are productive at home some people even like it what's not to like you can be in your pajamas and still accomplish the same kind of work you know in a candid moment a lot of lawyers would probably tell you that and I think that there is upside for both lawyers and for firms to do that the flexibility is something the people of wanted since before the crisis in some law firms before the crisis we're taking small steps towards being more flexible about where people worked and they saw upside both in attracting talent who wanted to be working where they were comfortable where they were where it was convenient also for the law firms there's a big expense of course on the real estate side real estate for most law firms is their second biggest expense behind paying lawyers so they're interested long term many law firms are in using less space why would any firm go back to renting expensive space again if this is working it's that's a great question different firms are different so some firms before the crisis we're happy to move towards less space and I think that the crisis will accelerate the move towards less space for those firms other firms the before the crisis had a culture of being in the office together they placed a premium on facetime and I think after the crisis some of those firms will revert to form and they will want to be in the office more so there will be some that accelerate towards work at home more and take on less space and I think others will want to snap back to how they were previously law firms like many other firms can be notoriously inflexible though about people's time has the shortest that it can work differently I think that this crisis has proven that actually can work pretty well for many lawyers in many firms different lawyers have practices that lend themselves to working remotely so for example a lawyer who needs to appear in court or take depositions in person that doesn't work as well remotely of course others though K. and worked quite productively from anywhere and that works for the firm in for their clients when you ask people what the impediments are to remote working some of the things that come up are things like whether working remotely as an impediment to mentoring opportunities for young and up and coming lawyers they asked about whether working remotely as an impediment to a training those lawyers and they also ask about whether working remotely is an impediment to collaborating together and so some firms will find ways to address those impediments and work around them others will feel the need to be a person more often Kent Zimmerman a principle that's only because our group joining us from Chicago coming S. B. latest news and talk you're listening to an ABC news special copay nineteen what do you need to know in the B. C. news correspondent Amy Robach and with me now is ABC chief medical correspondent Dr Jen Ashton and there is some big news about colleges and universities considering re opening in the fall let's go through this systematically how it would work well first of all I mean we have to acknowledge is a complex situation in the health and safety of not just this population but the entire college and university community is obviously priority number one but here are some things that we know at this point medically we know that the college age group is at a lower risk of severe covert nineteen disease we also know that in this age group and in this environment social distancing is definitely going to be uniquely challenging and we also know that there are people in these communities whether they're college students with pre existing medical conditions or the staff or faculty that worked in and around colleges that could be vulnerable and may be at higher risk as well what options should be considered well I think there are some theories that are worth really exploring the first thing is is can we modify the timing of the spacing some of the classroom activities some of the other activities they shouldn't be looked at like an all or none decision in terms of sports theatre dormitory dining all of those things could be modified it's not an all or one situation and we have to remember that masks once the CDC recommended that for the general public they may be a key tool in reducing the transmission of this virus in the college communities from a health standpoint what do we still need to figure out well look luckily we have a little bit of time to do this but I think there is still a lot of things we don't know where to begin with we don't know what the role of rapid testing on a college campus can look like we don't know whether to college students and whether our kids will actually be compliant with some of the social distancing measures and we really don't know when you talk about risks which is worse right now going back to college in some way shape or form or take taking another year plus and not going back you both have to weigh those risks head to head and it's not an easy answer all right Dr Jenna you're sticking around to answer questions in just a bit in the meantime we turn out A. Some of his draft related information Dave t is always entertaining A. and Informative and I'm sure that you'll enjoy listening to him when we get to the interview that he and I recorded in just a little bit all right I though a a couple of thoughts on Tuesdays giants practice I was not in attendance today in East Rutherford but but sounded like Eli Manning had a nice day sounded like rookie quarterback. Daniel Jones had a little bump in the road today little bit up and down those things though are to be expected expected as the young man develops no big deal nothing to be alarmed about today at Big Blue View. You'll find stories on Eli Manning hang on what he said. When he met the media on Tuesday morning also a nice story on Dexter Lawrence he also met the media dexter of of course is playing defensive end seventeenth overall pick little bit surprising to some that he's being used as an end and not as a nose tackle that particular the topic is addressed in the story and also some information on how he's doing and how he's developing as a pass rusher speaking of pass rush rush? I also had an opportunity to speak with former Arizona cardinals edge rusher marcus golden who is now with the giants on a one one year prove it deal gold and told me that he is healthy looking forward to the two thousand in nineteen season and still believes that he can return to his two thousand and sixteen twelve and a half sack form now that he's another year removed from the surgery he had in two thousand thousand seventeen for the torn A._C._l.. that he suffered also wanted to mention those of you who listen to the podcast that Dan Poodle and Chris Phlegm have been doing here on Biglou view radio those of you who listen to that already know that that Dan is moving on from big blue view..

"Big blue big board podcast. I am Dan pursued join tear by Chris flow. And we are going to continue our positional breakdowns as we look forward to the NFL draft giants completely officially not out of the playoff race, realistically. They have been out of the playoff race for quite a while. Now officially and mathematically zero percent chance so at five and nine the giant sit at right now the ninth overall pick, but there are five teams right now who have a five nine record. So over the next two weeks. There could be a lot of fuck chelation giants could conceivably pick anywhere from seventh to thirteenth if all of those teams stay around the same area that when it was Monday morning. They were eighth of even then Carolina Walsum Monday night. I think that hurt the giant strength sched-. So then they dropped down to ninth. So just in one day, there's been fluctuations there ESPN's football power index has them projected to pick ninth with an eight point six pick average football outsiders has as only five point seven percent chance at a top five pick. So that is where the giant stand right now with two weeks ago individual season. Now, two days positional preview is going to be the interior defensive line. And we've already talked about edge. How that's a strong class. We've talked about some Cornerbacks that's strong class. But I think if you might take one defensive position that is really the strength of this class. It might be the interior defensive line. So you ready do break down some of these big as Chris, oh, definitely assuming all these guys come out. This is going to be a crazy good defensive line class. And like you said we've already talked about the edge. And how good that is with Nick Boza clone. Farell the good Josh Allen, all those guys. This will be as should be at least as good. I think we probably get started by talking about the difference between the defensive line edged positions. Just as they stand because the definitions have been undergoing some changes over the last couple years. Yes. So think instead of I you'll hear us say edge and interior defensive line. And I think that's the better way to put it then defensive and in defensive tackle. Because some of those are just your interchangeable. I think those are in in a vacuum kind of outdated terms on because you can have a four three defensive end is different than three four defensive and avoid. Also, the giants are supposed to be eight three four base. But I mean, when's the last time we really saw them run three man defensive line. Fine. It doesn't happen that often. So when you look at the interior defenders, I think in in my view, those are going to be ten of the bigger guys of who you would think of as the run stoppers. But as the passing becomes more important in the NFL of these guys who are still going to be able to create pressure, but they're going to do it against the guards and the center while the edge guys are the ones doing it from the outside. Absolutely. And at college, and at the pro level, and there is definitely a correlation between the two these guys are getting smaller and faster because of the proliferation of the spread offense in college. Basically everyone runs everyone except for like Wisconsin and Iowa run some variation on the spread offense even though schools use spread concepts. So the entire defend tested, smaller and faster. So a lot of these guys were going to be talking about even though we'll be calling them defensive tackles a couple years ago. People would probably be looking at them as maybe even big defensive ends or undersize three techniques. Something like that. And as the spread offense gets more and more popular in the NFL. Just, you know, look at the Rams the chiefs the eagles the saints all those teams incorporating spread concepts you're going to see more of these just incredibly athletic defensive tackles or an interior defensive linemen getting picked highly. Right..

"Hello and welcome to the big blue review podcast. I am Dan Zuta. Join tiered by Chris flood, and we are coming to you after a seventeen to nothing titans. Win over the New York Giants. It was a gross game, weather wise. It was a gross game. Play wise. A wasn't super fun to watch. Chris you ready to break this down. I suppose we have to. Yeah. So where do where do we even start here? Because this was this was ugly pretty much from the beginning. Yeah. I suppose we might as well just go like the song says in start from the beginning. Now, we saw who the giants are against a good team. You know, a team that has a solid defense that is prepared for them. And who they are without audio Beckham. And what happens when a team can basically successfully dictate the terms of the game to the giants. Yes. So we said two things heading into this game. A one was that we didn't know which Tennessee team was going to show up because you never know what Tennessee team is going to show up by football outsiders. They ranked thirtieth in variants, which just means they're weekly Devia way of fluctuated more week to week than only two teams of fluctuated more. So they could be really good one week really bad another week. I'm not totally sure if good Tennessee showed up in this game. But it was better than the giants tenancy that showed up and that was enough. And then the second thing we talked about in the previous episode of the podcast when we were breaking down. The Washington game is won the the rate of turnovers. The giants had over the past few games. Really since the by was just not sustainable the amount of turnovers. The defensive touchdowns, none of those were going to be sustainable going forward. And we wanted to see what the giants would look like in a game where they weren't getting gifted these interceptions and turnovers and what they would have to do just playing straight up defense. And we saw in this game. They just weren't able to hold up. They got rolled over. I mean run over I suppose, we we. Could say the basically didn't have an answer for competent play yet, Tennessee, really and they set the tone kind of early in his game. I drive was nine plays. It only went forty four yards. They ended up missing a field goal at the end of it. They had to settle for a long field goal. Forty eight yards. They missed I think that kind of gave them the impression we can't settle for long field goals. Here we need to try to push the ball little more. So they missed field goal. The giants. Go three plays and negative three yards on their next drive and then pretty much set the tone for their offensive performance. Yeah. And then the Tennessee pretty much quenches the game on their second drive of the game. Fifteen plays seventy five yards to up seven minutes and forty five seconds. They got down inside the five it will like Derrick Henry scored on touchdown. They've ruled them down at the. One. Then they had a third goal at the one looked like Marcus mariota scored on a QB sneak. They ruled him short of the goal line. And then they just gave it to Derrick Henry on fourth and goal, and he was able to push in broke like to arm tackles, which if you're trying to arm tackle Derrick Henry, I have you might as well, just not try to tackle him..

"Dalvin Thomason was just ended on thirty four percent. They got Josh Moro in the interior at twenty percent, RJ McIntosh. Played twenty percent. Mary Edwards played seventeen percent us. So this is just a line. That's going to be rotating these guys in and out. So they're all going to have a chance to make an impact. I think it's now queer they like BJ hill the most in that scenario, and they're letting him, you know, he's the only one who played more than half the defensive snaps, and he's showing why he has earned that he has really been all over the fields of. For most of the season since he's started to get increased playing time. And now with Damon Harrison gone, I think he is the guy who can take over in that interior. He's been a really good run stuffer. Even though there's all the stats about how the giants run defense has gone downhill, sin tariffs, and left hill is a guy who still making a decent amount of tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage in the run game. And I think he's really the one guy who can create interior pressure right now in the past rush. Mario words can't as well. But right now hill is the best pass rusher. Which I don't think we were thinking we would say back in may. No, I mean back in may, we weren't even sure if VJ hill was new going to get run with the starters. He was impressive in training camp. And he he's made his way up there. And he is a guy who is going to be a part of this defensive line. But if you're. Talking about the the best pass rusher. I still a worthy the Vernon and just a couple of days after I wrote something on big blue view about how Olivier Vernon has more value than just the raw sack numbers because you can't always count on broad sack numbers to be a good measure of what in edge rusher is doing because there's pressure there. And if he's getting to the quarterback that is good. I wrote that about Livia Vernon about how he is still getting to the quarterback. And even though the sax weren't there. They were going to come. And he finished this game with two sacks. And one of which was a strip sack, which is even better at least for this week. No complaints about how burnin played well actually slight complaint on how he played on the edge in the run in run defense. He crashed inside an awful lot. And the bears took advantage of that on some. Either cutbacks or counter runs. I don't know if he was expecting somebody else to be outside of him, and they weren't there. Or if he was misreading the play is a run between the tackles and was overly aggressive. I don't know that without knowing the play call. But that was something a little concerning. I guess we could say, yeah. Isn't that something maybe he was a little too aggressive? But I think I'd rather be a little too aggressive and in the grand scheme of things when you're only giving up to seventy six yards and Jordan Howard. And it's it's not the worst thing in the world. I think they kept the run game slightly controlled. So it's not like his aggressiveness really got them out of hand and being out of position really kill them. But if we're going to bring up some things on the defensive side that did not work. Well, I. I am not sure why the giants continue to think Landon Collins should be put one on one in man coverage against some of these top guys on opposing defenses. We saw it a couple of weeks ago when he was one on one with George Kittle in the San Francisco game and against the bears. He was matched up against Tariq win often. And I'm not sure if there's a play where that went Collins way lose one he he actually stuck with Cohen in man coverage down the field. But it looked like he lost the ball in the air. He the throw was behind Cohen. And I think Collins had a chance to come up with the interception, but he lost the ball as well. Right. Well, that's what that's one of the road. At least. He was there. At one time. He was there. But that was a forty six yard completion. He allowed so at okay, he was there. But that's that's part of the problem. So you go back to the to Alec Otari interceptions..

"The. Hello. And welcome to the big blue big Boyd podcast. I am Dan Zuhdi joined by Chris, and we are here to bring you another episode diving into some NFL draft and college football previews for the week the giants rate now as we talk are three and eight after a disappointing loss to Philadelphia Eagles. This keeps them in the number five slot of for the draft. Obviously there's still a lot that can change over the last couple of weeks of the season. But right now, they sit at fifth overall football outsiders has with a forty point six percent chance at a top five pick those are the fifth highest odd while it still below fifty percent team below them is actually Jacksonville who we as a twenty five point one percent chance. So the giants are are looking good. Good. I don't know if good is the right word to put their for its out five pick. But they look likely to land in the top five like whether that's good or not depends on your perspective. I guess of. And they still have a one point two percent. Chance of the top overall right now the favorite their San Francisco of forty five percent, Arizona at twenty nine point eight and then Oakland at nineteen point five. So probably looks like one of those three is going to be the top pick. But the giants still high up there, and that is kind of something that has not changed lately, we can say the giants might have played better little bit in some games. But but even even those winds haven't really taken them out for getting a very high pick in this rat. So today, we're going to jump back into our positional previews, and we are going to talk about safeties which should be position. The giants. Look very closely at. At a through free agency and the draft. So you ready to talk some safety today. Chris kinda sorta I just say the personal policy of mine. Try not to form too many really solid opinions on defensive backs, and especially safeties until after the NFL scouting combine. And that's the only position group. I hold that for two maybe edge with the explosive explosive numbers mostly because of the TV angles. Make it hard to get a good look at these guys and get a good look at how they how they move. So I like to be able to watch them in isolation at the combine but other than that. Yeah. I'm ready. Yes. So that's that's one thing we talked about with edge. And that's something definitely big on is getting those combine numbers in the the explosive numbers to really see how these guys are going to translate safeties safety is something similar, especially if we're talking about guys who are going to be on the back end and potentially as as single high safeties and guys who were going to have to have some range in. Ver- a bit. There's definitely instincts that go in there, which you can see off the tape. But the guys are testing slow that is not going to be a good thing. But yeah, like, you said right now, we're looking at cups and things of TV broadcasts while we're looking at these guys, and that is not the greatest way admittedly to to break breakdown safety play. Because for some reason TV broadcasts still don't believe in the pudding safeties in the picture often pre snap. So you kind of have to guess on what they're doing with how the play ended up. But before we get into some specific dyes that we might be watching for go forward into this draft season. I think we can take a bit of a look at what the giants safety situation is right now, I am what they might be working for. So the giants obviously have land in. Collins at safety kind of and there's there's two reasons for the kind of their this is the last year of his rookie deal. So he will technically be a free agent of the giants easily franchise tag him to keep them for another year. They could resign him too long term deal. And that would keep him around wonder, but also in the kind of reasoning he's been playing bit moral Glenn backer, the past couple of weeks as as we're now going into week thirteen impacts games..

"Big blue review podcast. I am damn zoo to join teeter by Chris Vaughn. And we are here in the aftermath of a twenty five twenty two New York. Giants loss to the Philadelphia Eagles it Chris. I think last week we talked about how what the giants were doing was was playing with fire a little bit in how the game plan against Tampa Bay and that ended up in a win. But we said it's going to be dangerous if they do that again against philli, and they might not be as lucky, and I think that's exactly what happened in this game. Yup. For some reason trying to pay your team's weakness against the other teams strength didn't work out against a team that wasn't one of the absolute worst in the league. It's amazing. Let's just get into game. Plan part because that is that was a big part of what happened in this game, and then abide some circumstances became a big thing of what happened after the game. So after the game Odell Beckham was asked about the deep shots. And why there wasn't a whole lot of passes really really going out of their way to target the eagles secondary which was down five defensive backs five even Cornerbacks not even defensive backs five corners, and we could go step further say they're also down Jordan Hicks, their top linebacker, who's a really good coverage. Linebacker so the the outside and the middle of their defense was weak against the pass. Yes. So what's just run through who they started at cornerback is. So let's just go over crew. The eagles had at cornerback in this game. Devante bus be played ninety eight percent of the snaps. Crayon will block played seventy three percent of defensive snaps. Chandon sullivan. Played sixty eight percent of the snaps. The were the guys that Oto Beckham and sterling shepherd were going against. And there was just not a lot of ways that tried to take advantage of that. And that it's something we talked about last week against Tampa Bay where there wasn't a lot that went against their secondary. That was making opposing authentic look like the Los Angeles Rams passing game by the numbers and then going into this game. The eagles were down their entire secondary. They were down five quarterbacks. The giants right now have five cornerback. On their roster. So think about who the giants have on their roster right now. Now take away all those guys. And would you could you imagine another team going against that group of secondary players and not throwing the ball down the field all the time more. Specifically, could you imagine that group of secondary players having to defend Odell Beckham lit loan? Sterling Shepard yet. It's insane. Even when these guys were healthy the eagles were thirty second in big play rate allowed on defense and the giants just took no advantage of that. And it's insane in for Beckham to come out and say after the game that asked asking first of all that asking why there weren't more downfield shots is a question for the coach. And the he's right that it is your but for him to say looking at what the eagles had at the secondary. He would have liked if it was in the game plan more dude on him like he should be frustrated that wasn't. In the game plan. Imagine you having Odal Beckham and not using him against guys that probably at least three quarters of you listening to this have never heard of that is that is insane to me. And I think we have to figure out what what the reasoning there is is it that the giants just really think they have like such a strong run game that they don't need to throw down the field. And if so that's flawed thinking process is it because they don't trust their quarterback to throw downfield that often and take advantage of that. If that's the case that you seriously in need a new quarterback, and you and you should not be the giving us the thing that you'll I still has years left..

"But I mean, I don't I shouldn't have to use numbers sell you on the iron bowl. I've flea start that day at noon. Ohio State Michigan always a good game. These are two top ten teams. Now, Ohio State has looked shaky. They almost lost to. Maryland who are honestly lucky to even have a football program right now that something else even just entirely different. But so Michigan is is second in defensive SNP plus their fourth in overall s and people s so I mean that's going to be a game. And basically if Michigan wins this game, they're probably in the playoff that is just going to be a fun college game. Whether you're really looking for guys, you're going to be you know, scouting for the draft or not and win Haskins has not really been short over the past couple of games. So he's going to be facing a really good defense again. So we can see how that goes along. So I know you guys are probably listen to this Friday. So this is getting posted on Friday. So a lot of Friday games might have already happened. But Oklahoma West Virginia is going to be fun Friday night, Washington Washington state to eight thirty put. Yeah. "You can always add bore like look the we talked about the eagles. They won the Super Bowl the with the deepest defensive end rotation and then went out and drafted Josh wet. So there's you can always continue to build the edge. And I think that's what a lot of teams are going to do. So like we did last week. We're going to end this show with some a game recommendations to watch this week. I is not a great. Week in college football. I really don't believe not an overall great slate. So Chris do you have a recommendation to watch this weekend? Yeah. It really is lean pickings this week. You know, normally say, you know, watch Alabama well hell bama's playing citadel, and that's not going to be much of a game. I don't think all due respect to sit it out. But yeah, I don't think you're anyone in that. So I'm gonna be watching do persist Clemson because number one that Clemson defensive line. It's they're they're always fun to watch. And I just. Clemson's defensive scheme. And also we had the report milk, hyper Bohmte do quarterback Daniel Jones up into eighteenth on his big board. Jones did have a really good game against North Carolina. And it will be interesting to see him against one of the best defences around. Yeah. So why talked about last week? I do like seeing these quarterback prospects against good defenses. Clemson number six in pass defense per SSD. Plus, which again is the college football, advanced efficiency, metric, going to be honest. I I just I don't see it with Jones right now. A he is not going to be someone. I like from what I've seen and the numbers I've dug into so far and even after that North Carolina game his numbers are still not good, and well below all these other guys that are potentially going to be in the traffic last. But I'm still going to be interested to see how he does against Clemson. But right now, I think I'm going to be out on him. But I know he he's going to be someone that's probably going to be talked up. So for my recommendation is going to be going on at about the same time. There's really not good games until the nightime toured. Some people are going to be interested in Notre Dame Syracuse which goes on to thirty. But if that's not a Notre Dame blowout, I will be very surprised personally. I'm going to be exciting to watch temple south, Florida at noon, just because I went to there's the kind of a good team and they've turned into some offense of juggernaut over like the past two games. And also have one of the best defences in college football right now. So that'll be fun at least for me to watch. But I'm going to stick with my AA see pride here and UCF Cincinnati at eight PM on ABC. A college game day is going to UCF. This is to top twenty five teams UCF undefeated, McKenzie Milton is sue. For fun. He's someone if he enters the draft is someone I'm going to be so much higher on than everyone else. I think a very good at quarterback. I think he would be very exciting to watch and Cincinnati is number twelve in past defense s and p plus a so that is going to be quite the test. And that is the big ABC prime time game. So that will definitely be something. You guys should be watching. You can flip in the do. Clemson game is probably going to be fun for maybe a quarter. You can see whether Duke is going to hang in there or not and probably by that time that starts started seven. I am probably by the time. UCF Cincinnati starts at eight. You know, how do Clemson game is going to finish? Yeah. Definitely. So those are recommendations are that they're short. But this week is is not as fun and doesn't even have really as many intriguing draft matchups as there was last week. So we are going to end it there. A thank you guys. For listening. "Hello and welcome to the big blue review. I am damp. Is you two joined by Chris lung, and we are here to talk about a giants win is that right yet? They somehow they managed to get a win the tried not to but I guess one of the teams had to win eventually for the giants had a twenty seven twenty three win over the San Francisco forty Niners on Monday night football. It came down to the giants. Final drive which was which was a game winning drive by the giants and UI manning. It was a weird drive. It was not a normal March down the fields getting chunks of yards at a time and punching it into the end zone. It was it was a strange final drive. It was more of a drunken stumble down the field read out what what hap-. On this. Dr so starts with such back incomplete to Beckham thirty one yards to Ingram. A which was really nice play Ingram had a little hesitation, then slipped out to the outside had a free sideline. Six yards to Ingram of pass negative three yards to Barclay awesome. So we're still doing that. That's cool two minute warning than there was a false start on will Hernandez than there was a defensive holding on Malcolm Smith on Barkley that ended up being a automatic first down which was going to be on a third and twelve that was a pass that was again going to be to Barclay of well behind the line of scrimmage us of the giants dot a bit of a gift there because they would not have picked up that first down if the past was completed and there wasn't a penalty. So then we go to the next I down then there's a holding penalty on Jim on Brown's that sets up a I in twenty then there's an incomplete. Then they got a second in twenty. There is defensive pass interference on a pass to Beckham. So that sets up a first down then another incompletion to Evan Ingram than a nice glow. Angle round to sick one Barkley the forty Niners. Had it looked like they were trying to double cover Barkley, but both defenders were on the outside. So when Barkley cut in he had free room to run down the middle of the field and that was twenty three yards than another past you Ingram for nine yards. And then the quick pass to sterling shepherd for a three yard touchdown. Oh, what a penalties a lot of weird plays. But overall it ended up with the giants going ahead and setting up. What was eventually a game winning drive? Yeah. Like, I said a drunken stumble of drive, but it worked out, and they actually used some things that we have been the. Table is broken from us. Banging it so hard, you know, like with the angle route to Barclay or actually getting Ingram down the field. He is so good at those. Kind of stick nod. Double moves where the defender almost expects him to run like a hook route or occur curl route or something like that. And then he turns it up field and just uses that speed. And so nice to see he should use it more or rather it should be called for him more and again with Berkeley, get him past the line of scrimmage. Get him some open field and let him do what? He does. Good things happen. Yeah. So for Ingram. He had five targets for the game. Four of them were on that last drive now, I kind of joked on Twitter, it's been just been a season-long con to not use Evan Ingram. So there's no tape of him when you need to throw to him downfield in a game winning situation. Oh, which was a joke. But kind of also the truth because there really is not this year of Evan Ingram. Running down the field. Which they did. And then yet Barkley they started the drive throwing to him behind the line of scrimmage. They tried to run a short pass to him on that third down that the there was the holding a where he would not have gotten the first down. If there wasn't. But the big play twenty three yards came on a nice ankle round. So he had twenty three yards there. Here we had thirty three yards receiving in game..

"It doesn't always happen that way. And so while to the Jit now Finch could change while from looks pretty good right now things could change we're expecting Vince from eastern we're expecting bench from Haskins. And so. Puttin it to twenty twenty while it looks good right now. It may not always pan out that way. And so that's why I'm I'm a firm believer of just getting your guy now because you don't know what's going to happen down the road one. Last name. I do wanna mention garbage shoot that the kid at Washington state. I don't think we should be sleeping on this kid right now. I know it's a Mike Leach quarterback. But he's starting to put up some big numbers. You start to get a little bit of buzz. Maybe we shouldn't be sleeping on this kid. Putting walking stick? No he can throw the mesh concept. Yeah. You certainly can't. He certainly can't do that. But I mean when you look at sort of numbers right now, you know, he's leading the FBI in passing yardage. You know, he's putting up huge numbers for them. I'm looking at it right now. Seventy one percent completion rate twenty six touchdowns just six interceptions. Your quarterback rating colleges a little bit different. What quarterback rate of one fifty three point four in their win against Stanford. Forty fifty four thirty eight three touchdowns no interceptions through five touchdowns against Oregon state for their win over Oregon with two picks. I mean, he's somebody that people should start doing work on as well. All right. We we definitely have quite a few names to out. We've got a list. That's where you just gonna start you start with the list, and that we can all yell at each other over, you know, January February and March about how bad or how good these guys are everybody can tell me how bad might take because that's the nature of the beast. But that's why we talk about quarterbacks because everybody loves to talk about quarterbacks. And this is a giants team that whether they wanted to or not now needs to talk about quarterbacks. So Mark thank you so much for joining us. This is VIN fantastic. Hopefully, everyone else agrees. I definitely do is someone who's into very preliminary stage of the quarterback of valuation process us. So thank you for joining us aware can everyone find your work if they would like to do that guys. Thanks so much for having me. This was a blast people can hopefully L I do sort of enjoy talking about. Made the because I spend all my wicked moments thinking about quarterbacks what I'm not read to which by the way, if you have a gut yourselves red dead to go out and buy a low, judging by the fact that they almost hit a billion in sales over the first week and most of you probably have gotten it. But if you read that too, it's fantastic. No, I don't have any family members that are over at rockstar games. Just like the game that much it said if you do follow me and my random uses on quarterbacks video games and TOTO bus to do that is at Moscow 'field on Twitter inside the pylon. I think that's pretty much the exhausted list of where I'm contributed. I know I forgot one or two places, but those are the places you can check me out right in about this game. We all know in love. Yeah. Here anywhere on the internet. You're probably reading Mark on quarterbacks. Similar? Yeah. I mean are and if you're not on the internet, I just you know, there's a way you can get your home address. I could write you postcards, every week or so about quarterbacks if that's the way you'd rather do it. I'd be more than happy to do that. If you want to consume my work, but you're of the internet. "Eventually, you'll have to bow to reality. You have to recognize reality for what it is. And the game of football is changing the rules favor offense over defense. And it frustrates the hell out of me because I love defensive football, but you know, the rules, some of them motivated by player, safety others motivated by, you know, just improving scoring and you know, making the game more enjoyable and putting up for people who like offense of football putting up, you know, almost basketball numbers. Yeah, the game's going much more pass oriented and you have to recognize that because otherwise, realities in a slap you upside the face, but passing one is more efficient than running the ball that has been the case for just about ever eight advent of pass so much more the case. Now passing is at its highest, and you just have a front office right now that doesn't care, and and I knew that that's one of the boasts concerning parts of this is especially when they some of the best passing weapons around. Yeah. When you're just looking at the what the we looks like right now, and you have a team that trying to build in spite of that and not going into it. And you know, maybe maybe that changes if they get a quarterback in distract. But again, you know, who knows if that's going to happen? The draft is still still. While away. So we still have a wad of time before that part of the rebuilding process is really front and center. And right now there's just there's not a lot to look forward to and there's there's not a lot that is going right for this team in a year where they were, they were expected to be better than they were now. And again, again, this was just this was not the plan and don't don't let anyone try to trick you into believing that this. This was what they had in mind that this team was going to mean set up with a high draft pick that could potentially give them a quarterback that was not nobody plans Lantis that that wasn't it. This wasn't some Sashi Brown, Cleveland Browns wife, three year tank that that was not the case. This team is bad and set up to get possibly get a quarterback. In spite of itself. It's what it was that was not the plan long-term prediction or put it out now just before we wrap up by the end of the two thousand eighteen draft, Nick Bosa and David Edwards, right, tackle Wisconsin will be giants in after their first two picks. Alright. So that would mean Kyle is the starting quarterback, the the details of that. I'm sure we will get into as the season goes on a this richest kind of a work at at what this team is right now and how it got here and and where it might go, which you know we honestly have no idea. So with that, when I on that positive note will end there thank you guys for winning. Again, you can subscribe anywhere you find podcasts, apple podcast, Google play, Stitcher, Spotify. "The jerseys and how different people to be angry at man. If if you were hoping we were going to talk through this entire process and come out with a positive outlook of where the giants are right now, I am sorry to disappoint you because that has not been the case. I feel like almost talking through this. I am less getting more depressed and I was, yeah, and I'll I'll be the first admit, I was not someone who was optimistic going into this season. I think I remember what we did preseason over unders at dig Lou view producer. There were four or five of us who did that and put the over under at six and a half. I think I was the only one who said. Disdain is gonna go under. So I, I will say I, I was not one of the optimism people going into the season, but even this has been so far below my expectations as much as this season might be kind of off the rails and depressing and underwhelming really like what is depressing and questionable is, is the possible future outlook of this team. I just I don't know if I trust the structure that's in place going forward to be what is able to to turn around this franchise, at least in the near term when Dave Gettleman was hired. Trust cattleman yell. The Panthers were in the Super Bowl two years ago. While look at the season's around that year, they were incredibly inconsistent and would bounce back and forth between having a pretty good winning season and a not great losing season. And that team was mostly mardi her knees yet. Again, remember omen came in and Cam Newton was already in place at quarterback who was already in place. The running backs were Jonathan Stewart, and I believe Mike Tober was all with already in place. Ryan cluele is already in places center. Greg Olsen was already in place a tight end, and he just added pieces to that roster fry. And and when you look at what this team is going to need to do at quarterback going forward, Kyle, Ida was the first quarterback, Dave Gettleman ever drafted while Leto was ghetto men's I quarterback and again, Dave Gettleman has never traded down in a draft as in those are just I don't think I don't know how you trust that going forward. I don't know how that was trusted to begin with. If if I'm being honest, but I'm not sure how you how you can see what has gone on right now and trust everything for the future and it especially the way Dave Dataman. Has tried to build this team right now. That's with his Haag mollies and through the running game is just it can meet just eliminate that word from our vocabulary. Yeah, we can, but but it's it's a way he's tried to build a team in an era where passing is at its highest, its most efficient. And really it's easiest in the history of the league. And this is now a team that's trying to build through through ground and pound and be a run first team it and and because of how bad they've been. They've been one of the most past heavy teams. But again, that wasn't the plan either and they're doing a narrow when the offense of linemen coming out of college, just they're trained to play a different game than what Dave Gettleman wants them to do. They very few schools even used three point, Steve. Chances for their offense of lineman, they're almost exclusively. No. Are peo- based spread option, spread the defense out. And Lyman only have to pass protect for two seconds and. The if you're going to build a ground and pound team, you need players that are really rare. If you say rare, you probably do have that with Barclay boat like how rare and is rare so much better than than everything else..

"I think he needs to do a little more playing an little west talking that is John Mara on Odell Beckham. I don't know what the point of that is. John Maher is saying that really adds nothing, but like a little bored dysfunction to the whole thing. And I can think of. This Bill bardwell tweet from the other day who brought up Bill James. These kind of the the father of sabermetrics in baseball and barnesville seat was one of the smartest things. Bill. James ever noted was how bad teams blamed the problems on their best players. I mean, that's that's where we are at the giants and Adele Beckham right now, I don't care what you think of Odell Beckham and what he's doing off the field. He's not in like the top twenty of their problems right now. No, I didn't particularly care about what he said when he said it on ESPN. Maybe his delivery could have been a little bit better, but ultimately he was a not wrong and be needed to be said, and see. He wasn't. Shouting at it, shouting from the rooftops. You know he, he wasn't going on a crazy rant calling into talk radio. He was very calmly saying the things we. All know to be true. But I suppose football players are meant to be seen and not heard even if they are right, even if they are right. And and I think that really bothers me about that Mariko is like, is him saying he needs to start playing and Beckham's do in what he can. He, he's open, he's teams are steams are steaming against them the eagles. They ran like quarter quarter half, and they had a safety just on Beckham over the top the whole time, and you Beckham did what he could against that and having his all of his routes like within five yards of the line of scrimmage. And when you not being helped out by the routes being schemed to be certain coverages. I mean, there's only so much he can do Beckham hen Beckham is is doing what he can and we saw him roast Jalen Ramsey in week one and. And he could have had two hundred yards all by his lonesome. If they look to a more right. And when we look at expected points right now, I'm going to just dive into this again expected points added which when it takes kind of the history of play by play in takes what a team usually gains from a certain part of the field. However, bunch of player adds to that. That's their expected points added Beckham right now on Seventy-three pathways. Sixteen expected points added a win probability added of forty, five point nine that's more than saquon Barkley on receptions, which is fourteen point. One expected points added. It's more than sequin Barclay on runs, which is negative. Zero point four, four expected points added total. When you throw two Odell Beckham good things happen. You need to throw to Odell Beckham a little more. You need to throw to him better. And that's, that's part of the problem is whatever this offense. Scheme is whatever's going on on this offense. It's not using the players in the right way, and that's something they really need to figure out for this season going forward. Because if knows then then I, I don't know what you can be optimistic about when you change the players when the players being used right now aren't being used in the correct way. Yeah. And even if they get a new quarterback or a new offense of line, if they keep not using their best skill position players than it's just gonna, keep looking like this just with different names on the backs of.

"Curtis Riley's making six hundred thirty thousand dollars. That is a one billion dollar difference for an upgrade to Eric Reed, which they are even on the same planet as far as what kind of upgraded as theirs. A lot of what if we could do with this team and then I'm sure we can probably spend over an hour doing that. But I think when you when you just really when you do look at what happens with whatever the plan was and what the plan turned into. I, it's just again, we can just stress it. It doesn't really seem like there was a cohesive plan going forward. You can take that. So I think we've done kind of scattershot look at at whatever the offseason plan and what was going in. And then when you see translate to field this year it and it's been even worse and bore jumbled than than the offseason plan that happened is what has actually played out. It's gone almost the way it only could have. Right. But even someone like me who was down on whatever whatever the plan was, a lot of the. Offseason moves I, we start there would be a some semblance of of at least in authentic structure that would look okay, but that clearly has not been the case between whatever has been going on with offense of line. We've got plenty, whatever's been going on with manning. We've talked about that pointy, but even just even the scheme right now, Pat Shurmur was not hired to run in offense that looks like whatever the offense currently looks like. I spent like douses of words in the offseason trying to predict and translate whatever Shurmur was doing in Minnesota and how that would carry over to the giants. And none of those words have come true. So they have even with the offense of line being what it is they have the personnel to be one of the most. Explosive offenses in the NFL, but they're just not schemed to play the way they are built. Look at the game plan against New Orleans Saints, or again against the Philadelphia Eagles to teams with questionable exploited will secondaries and I think all told Odell Beckham runs sixty routes out of almost twenty targets maybe even more than twenty targets. Saquon Barkley has what. Maybe one target or route run from the boundary as a wide receiver. Everything else is five yards or less run from the backfield. They're constricting themselves on offense. Give either topics we've discussed on Angola's even every cast so far is the usage of Beckham the usage of Barclay again. What are you drafting or running back second overall for if you're just going to treat him like every other running back in the league, that's not the point. And that's not who he is. You draft him because he is different. He is more. He is a potentially elite wide receiver as well as an elite running back, right? So so picking him now we, we went back said that probably wasn't the best thing for the giants to do for their long-term team building. But he's on the team now. So that pick is now it's now a suck that it's history. It's yeah, he's on the team that now use him like he's supposed to be used. He took that screen against for fifty five yards use him on more screened. Use him on more actual routes. Even a bigger part of the problem is they have these players that they brought in and they don't even know how to use them. And that has is what has really disappointed me in Pat Shurmur the head coach? Yep. I want to like him. You know, I see the concepts in his play calling, and I want to like it. I like how especially earlier in the year he was using vertical routes to clear out and create passing windows, which was big per the reason why he li- manning was the second most accurate quarterback in the league. And then they just kind of just kind of going away. He was brought in supposedly as the or having an almost bell check like flexibility. You know he was raised up under any read and then added to that some chip Kelly's philosophies and schemes concepts, and then added to that what he learned underneath no return..

"But that's an awful tight rope to walk, especially for team that hasn't shown that level of foresight. Right? And it's going to be incredibly tight rope to walk. So when you look at what the giants are frightened now, what did file when yet football outsiders has them. With a ten point, nine percent chance at the top pick, which is the fourth highest are that's behind Arizona, Oakland and San Francisco. They have a forty seven point, seven percent chance at a top five pick. And that's the fifth highest, really. They're not even the favorites, four, like the top, pick if they were going to go in for a quarterback there. So now you're looking at even if these teams in front of them aren't gonna, take quarterbacks, and if you look it, the teams who are in front of Arizona just took one who knows what Oakland is going to do. Their Jon Gruden might throw a billion dollars at Peyton Manning to come back and play for him. It fits his age demographic that he's looking for. But severe Cisco has Garoppolo buffalo just traded up for Josh Allen, whether that was a good decision or not. We don't have to get into that, but you know, they have their quarterback. Indianapolis is. Right behind them. They have a quarterback Cleveland, but there's teams that could still trade up. The giants are not guaranteed to get their quarterback where they're drafting. And if that's the case, now you have to trade up for a quarterback, sue using more draft resources to get this quarterback than you would have. If you had just, you know, maybe taken a guy to or if you had treated back last year, you now would have that ammunition to use to trade up. You can also use that and again, the giants are without a third round pick in this draft. And I will say I am okay with that. I was completely appro taking Sam Beal in the supplemental draft. Yes. He's probably someone who's talent you were not denting with that third round, pick in the normal drafts, so I'm fine with that. But you have to take that into account if that's something they have to eventually trade up for you. Now don't have that third round pick as amunition so the giants are not guaranteed. Come away with a quarterback this year either. No. And they could say they wanna use next year to look at Kyle Letta assuming they fold tent on ally manning and either he retires at the end of the year or they cut him and he retires at the end of the year or retires in two thousand nineteen. You know, they could use next year to try and see what Kyle let has. You know they're very high on him and he is in a terrible fit for what Pat Shurmur wants to do on offense. You know, he's kind of a hot rod version of case keenum, but they could do that and kick that can little bit further down the road again and maybe get into the twenty twenty draft which could have who knows just in Herbert, might stay in college, and then you could also have to a at Alabama or Jake from at Georgia. Now, two guys. I've had my eye on since last year now. I really like them and you also never quite know who's going to emerge. People weren't talking about Carson Wentz two years before he was the second pick in his draft. It's going to be interesting how they go about this quarterback decision because if they do go with law Leta and and they give him a chance to play this year and they go into next year with him and if he's not good, I don't think Doman insurer get a chance to pick the next quarterback now that might actually worse the giants to do what they probably should have done when they fired.
