"For anything. Any kind of controversy and i i love controversy. I've said that before. I i'm a big fan of of event of stirring the pot and but that's and stuff that's actually happening not Stuff that i think is is is a load of bs and i think You know this whole thing that we've always had with the quarterbacks pittsburgh We want them to show deference to the coaches like. I saw somebody i think. Dave scofield After candida quote made news. And i think when it first second people to comment on that story behind curtains at oh bench basically bench to shut up and do what his bosses tell me to do. What the guys who know better tell him. Do you think matt. Canada knows more than ben. Rothlisberger does you know i mean. Maybe it's equal but ben rothlisberger. Pretty darn accomplished quarterback. I think he knows what he's doing out there. So if he didn't he wouldn't have wouldn't have had the career that he's had. That's another misconception about big. Ben is that people think that he's just gotten by for last almost two decades just on pure skill in and not caring about his his conditioning or not caring about studying in any of that stuff. You don't make to this point where he has with the kind of things that he's accomplished. Stats wise a champion in terms of championships in terms of winning week. In and week out without knowing what you're doing without putting into work both in the in the film room and and on the practice field and the weight room and and on a road running or whatever you know you don't make you don't have the kind of career that ben roethlisberger has had just on going out there and and and just winging it if you wanna know. An example of that maybe jay cutler is a great example. You always see the pictures in the memes to him but the cigarette hanging out of his mouth. I mean they're not real. But i'm sure he's he might smoke but never never never when he's wearing a football uniform but if you want to an example of somebody who maybe didn't take his talent seriously didn't take the nfl seriously it was jay cutler ben rothlisberger she completely different story and that will probably always be his The cross he has to bear For the rest of his career in and after he's done playing until he's he leaves this earth people are always gonna just assume that he was he was a guy who got who got along just purely on scale and not on being disciplined and people say well he would just if he would be serious about his his serious. Tom brady and all these other guys in peyton manning. It have ten super bowls. Because that's how sick steeler fans thank you know they think that that There guys always the best and the only thing holding back or these intangibles or these these other things that that You know they could. They're not focused. Twenty four seven three six five relate. They think you're not focused enough. So little rant. I wanted to start the show with But pretty much all had to say about that and after i take look Into my second topic. Dave shipley here in clarence washington as tony time and i couldn't agree more isn't i had another rough night getting onto the computer. I'd like to be on right at nine o'clock. I'm a taurus creature of habit. I want to be on right at night. But i didn't like nine or three because i couldn't i had to start over Restart my computer and steal. The pittsburgh says you're a true And that's a good thing. I thank you i think. Maybe i'm just a. Is it my accent. But i thank you for that. So steeler fan. Thirty six click. Bait was the go. Daddy commercials with dana patrick. The defamed their female race car driver. I don't remember. they knew. Or they older commissioned key money man terry just hung out with him the other day actually. We talk sports. I think yeah we talked. We always talk sports but carries a wealth of knowledge. When it comes to pittsburgh sports he knows he knows. Everything knows it all a lot of stuff over the years. And here's dave shipley about about what i my first topping and he says the rooney's whenever higher office coordinator without collaborating with ben roethlisberger. Thank you. yeah they're not gonna just. There's always been that. That attitude with not just steeler fans. But i think it's a pittsburgh sports fan mentality at blue collar mentality that the quarterback is too big for. He can't be too spreadsheets. He can't be better than than than the rest of the team. And nobody's really saying that the quarterbacks better than the rest of the team but if you're talking about importance a i've said this many times a good accomplished talented franchise quarterback is the most indispensable and most important part of any football organization. When he's with that organization. I don't care if it's tom brady. Even he li- manning peyton manning. Tom brady all those guys. Johnny united states terry bradshaw throughout history. If when that guys under your employees then he's the most indispensable part it doesn't mean he gets have free reign but to sit there and just say you do this. You do as i say we don't. We don't care about your input bam. We don't want to work with you. We want to force this the system on you. We want you to do what we say. And we you know i it. It goes against logic so.

So let's get started. Shall we and i want to talk about as the title suggests. Is the big quoting. The week was from canada. I believe it was on tuesday. Mark does every every news outlet every blog every every steelers. anything posted. the. We're going to do what ben wants to do. Quote from matt candidate was about a minute long quote actually that he gave At at his press conference during minicamp and of course it was people always accused behind the curtain. A lot of sites of click bait and think they never clicked is when i say that. But in this case this debate this people going to elicit a response and People that go i. I can't believe they're caving. The benz demands met canada. Where they bring him in for he's just a puppet they actually said those words but that was the sentiment but i knew right away before i even watched mad canada's interview that this was taken out of context but it's not exactly what he meant. You know he was an going. Well what am. I even doing here at the end of the day. We're going to let them rothlisberger do what he wants. That's not what he meant. And i knew it wasn't what he meant. And when i when. I listened to the whole thing when i read the whole thing in its entirety. I was proven right. That's not what he meant what he basically meant. Meaning that canada. He meant that at the end of the day once. They formulate this new philosophy of his whatever that turns out to be. We have a general idea. It's going to focus on running and and jet sweeps and motion and this and that and the other at the end of the day they're gonna they're gonna find what works best for ben rothlisberger. What he's most comfortable with. And that's what you're gonna do by and large and why wouldn't they. He's been freaking rothlisburger. He's been in a league. Is your number. Eighteen is a hall of fame. Quarterback went through super bowls. He's been to three. He's he's throwing for sixty thousand yards in his career two touchdowns to one or maybe three to four touchdowns interception ratio. I forget what it is a three two one two two one. I i did last week. Anyway why wouldn't they do that. why would they. Why would anybody think that ben rothlisberger even though he took a pay cut even though he may only has one year left. Why did anybody think day would totally overhaul the offense and make it so confusing for him that he has to learn everything from scratch. That just would not make good business sense at this stage if they if they want to win than they wouldn't do that and if they wanted to start from scratch totally from scratch and put a force feed their quarterback everything that they want. They mad candidates offense to be. Then they probably wouldn't have brought back a have made any sense so i. It's only natural that. You're gonna want your veteran quarterback. You're thirty nine year old quarterback guy who's accomplished so much in the league. It only makes sense. You're going to want him to be comfortable. And you're going to want him to do things that that that he's one. He's he's That are his strengths. You're going to want to cater to his strengths. Though you're trying to the tweak and change the offense when it when when they brought mad ken and when they when they got rid of randy fisher eight and do so because they were looking to start from scratch. They did so because they wanted to improve. Upon last year in how last year ended in how it how predictable everything became by the last seventy eight weeks and how offense went from one that was scoring thirty points a game to some weeks. They were lucky if they if they got out of the know wanted. They wanted to to tweet to fix it to become more unpredictable. Become more creative to candy said in that press conference the other day to create better matchup problems for the opposing defenses. That's what the goal was in. My opinion was to just get better not to start over. So if you're in the market if you're in the market for the business getting better than you don't you. Don't ask your your Hall of fame quarterback is start over at just again. It just wouldn't make any sense and this is. This is the same thing ten years ago when they got rid of. Ben's real buddy bruce arians. I don't know if fitted him were best. Buds like big. Ben and arians were probably still are But when they got rid of. Va ten years ago. Or i guess. Nine years ago technically A lot of people thought it was gonna be that way with todd. Haley he was gonna come in. And and you know. Be this this taskmaster with a then thirty year old quarterback ben roethlisberger and yeah. He was he he had to tweak his game and he got better but it didn't. It didn't radically changed the offense. They changed some elements of it. They ask him to get the ridable quicker. But they didn't make him Become a totally different quarterback than what he was comfortable being and they're not gonna do that this year either. They're just not so. I saw that quote again to repeat. I knew exactly what it meant. And i knew it was taken out of context and in i knew i knew what matt canada's was trying to convey there and that's they were gonna they were gonna create an offense that ben was comfortable most companies. They were going to change it a little bit but they were going to tweak it. They weren't going to overhaul it And you know he also wasn't saying that that that Whatever benoit's ben do he meant in the framework of his system whatever benz comfortable with. They're going to go with. And why and again. why whitney. So that's the first thing i wanted to touch on. I think it's pretty a pretty Straightforward and. i think it's indicative of of this time of year. You know we're just. We're just searching for news..
Drummond a Better Addition to Lakers Than Rondo to Clippers
"We'll really both teams. Latest editions have paid off saturday. Andre drummond helped lead the lakers in an upset win over the nets. Thanks to his twenty points and eleven rebounds while yesterday rajon rondo dropped five ten points in the fourth quarter. Help the clippers close out the pistons in a comeback win so shannon waiting to think long and hard about this who is the better acquisition from in oregon out here. I think both gas were what the doctor ordered I think would rondo. Does he is allow. He allows paul george and kawhi not to worry about the ball handling situation especially late in the ball game so now they can do what they really good. At that score the basketball rondo will always get them into the right set. He will always do the right thing. Andre drummond is. This is just what the doctor ordered scale because he gives them. Something that the lakers didn't have the size and strength on the block. A guy that could score down there a guy that could rebound down there and a guy that can defend down there so for me. I'm going to say audrey draw. But although i believe rondo a great acquisition andre drummond is going to be the difference between the lakers winning and losing the title. Because i believe skips if you remember last year would they could do. Is that javagal. Into why they all they own for the most time they own the rebounding advantage. I believe this is going to be another situation that they're gonna get a lot of second chance opportunities because the look the other night i think andre drummond had offense rebounds that gives you another opportunity to possibly get. Am one adult or is going to be kicked out to a wide. Open three point shooter so for me. I'm gonna take andre drummond. 'cause i love and plus he three in august this year
"big ben" Discussed on First Take
"Welcome into i. it's friday. we're feeling good. I'm charlie aren't. We got max kellerman stephen a smith and the building guys who both very handsome today now stephen. A two weeks ago. You said that the steelers should retain big ben. Should he be willing to take a pay cut now. Of course it is easier said than done but today here we are sitting in. That is the story so guys. Let's get right into it. The team announcing yesterday big ben is back for the twenty twenty one season a source telling adam schefter that rothlisburger willingly reduced his salary to fourteen million from nineteen million in his final contract. You're spread the cash payment to two thousand twenty two. This move now lowers the team salary cap hit by more than fifteen million dollars then roethlisberger said it is my greatest honor to be a pittsburgh steeler and give my all this organization. I am grateful to be at this stage of my career in more than happy to adjust my contract in a way. That best helps. The team addressed other players who are so vital to our success. I love this game. And i love to compete and i believe in this team in my ability to deliver when called upon. Okay max. we're looking around the division. We've seen a lot just past your so. When you look at the steelers and ben rothlisberger would you say. He is the worst quarterback in the afc north. You asking me yes max. He is the worst quarterback in the northeast. Future hall of famer. He can still play. But he's the worst quarterback in the division. I think that's pretty obvious. Actually look lamar jackson year before last was the mvp of the league. I don't think we're going to argue that ben. Rothlisberger is better than lamar jackson. I wanna talk about joe burrow. And then i'm going to get to baker mayfield. Joe burrow last year had a qbr even lower than akers. Sorry then roethlisberger and he got hurt. A lot of this is projecting the trajectory of guys career. Does anyone believe that joe burrow is gonna be worse in year two. Then he wasn't year one. Joe burrow looked to me like a star from the get go as a pro. He taps maybe the greatest game in the history of college football right with the beginning of a pro career. That was totally excellent. That's a star. Then he gets hurt. But what did they say about your to your to the development here. That's when guys get even better. If you had to bet money who's going to be better this upcoming season rothlisberger borough put your money on rothlisberger. I'll take that bet. I'll give you odds on that bet. And it leaves you with baker mayfield. You know that baker mayfield was top ten in qb. Our last year. Rothlisberger was not top. Twenty baker mayfield as a young ascending quarterback former number one overall pick who the first time he had stability showed you. He's at least a starting quarterback if not a franchise quarterback and he's still getting better a better year last year than rothlisburger and he's still getting better. The first year with stability consistent head coach players around consistent philosophy just like that. The guy makes the playoffs and wins a playoff game whereas rothlisberger stephen. We've seen it. He had a little drew brees in him this year in the sense that early on he's really good and by the end of the season he didn't have any more no knock against rothlisburger. Really he's still can play. He's the worst quarterback in the division. And you you know what you need. You need to be tested. Sent something else wrong with you. That is just the most asinine thing that has come out of your mouth. And i've heard a lot of this and other things that come out of your mouth but this the cake stews me. Let me get this straight. That's not listening to you. I don't recall amac. I recall seeing right here. I didn't take my actually waited. But that's it okay. Now let me get this straight. Big ben rothlisberger is worse. Then baker mayfield worse than joe burrow. Who's up poppy. In this business just arrive couldn't even get past ten days without getting hurt. I like joe burrow. He's got tremendous potential baker mayfield. I'll give him props with do particularly in the second half of the season and it does not hurt that they beat the steelers in the postseason. But better than big big ben rothlisberger. I will remind you. I will remind you been rosberg addicted. Police sixty five percent of his passes baker. It was a sixty two big ben. Roethlisberger rothlisberger throw thirty touchdowns. baker mayfield. Was that twenty six. Now baker mayfield to eight interceptions always been roethlisberger through ten but the numbers did. The experience is their big game. Situations vacant pressure is. We're talking about big ben rothlisberger like he was straight trashed like he was into something. That's not true. We would have liked to have seen do better over the last five or six weeks of the season they dot but this is what happened when you have the worst running attack it all of football you yourself have lamented this state of affairs offensive line yourself lamented effect that because of it they can't run black. They don't have a running game as a result by the way bigger. Mayfield to four hundred and eighty six passes last year ben rothlisberger with at six eight. That's what he did. Six hundred eight passes okay. So what is that about one. Hundred and twenty two more passes than baker may feel. It would stand the reason if you don't have a run game if you don't have good blocking up front and you throw a football more than a hundred times than baker mayfield. Baker mayfield might look a little better and still his numbers. Warren necessarily better and then joe burrow a puppy. Just got it to the league. This amanda obviously cove in one thousand nine hundred something to do with it and we get all of that we understand it but this is a man that got drafted and was sitting with his parents not as women. Not a bunch of boys not teammate. To something like that. He was sitting with his parents. He's a good kid. Wholesome kid so they say we wish nothing but the best off trying to say the us this. That's the joe burrow that we know. He's a puppy he just got here and you're sitting there and talking about him like he's better than big barack to quarterback. The question was big. Ben rosberg is big. Ben the worst quarterback in the afc nine. Oh what he's going to look like in a year of right now. He's right right now based on a hallway next has started yet so all we got to go on sale right now and based off what we have seen. Ben rothlisberger is the worst quarterback in the afc north. Right to be tested so long so wrong. This is completely rational. It's uncontroversial really say. He's bb the worst quarterback in the nfc east. I didn't say he'd be the worst quarterback on what he wanted to have seen north. If you say you can have for this upcoming season any quarterback the number one. You can take lamar jackson by the way number two. You could choose between baker mayfield. The joe burrow for the upcoming year. I'm confident in saying joe burrow will be better than rothlisberger this upcoming season and the last pick would be rostered. It's not that he can't play. I'm not disrespecting his ability to start in the nfl suspect l. Does all know who. Don't respect your elders you does. Max de evidence is do.

"Back andy don't for year. That's not very realistic. Yeah and when you talk about the cowboys and jerry jones pride which we know. He has a little bit of that. He's probably not sitting there thinking man. I've got this guy in dak prescott. Who's one of the best quarterbacks in the league. I'm gonna go and try out one of these Rookie guys and see if they do anything. Good all right. Thanks so much we got more coming from you and let's get to more on the show here as we carry on up on. Nfl life. how about this. The belly checklist. Could it be marcus. Mariota garoppolo who apparently is staying in san francisco. No doubt now cam newton draft. These are all the questions that the patriots dealing with trying to find a quarterback and the reality is the market is very murky there right now but waiting for the dust to settle could be detrimental. Espn patriots reporter. Mike reese with more laura. The patriots have been exploring all their options at quarterback over the last month. the draft. Free agency and trades colonna strategically patient approach. But it's an approach that's going to be put to the test. As free agency starts in mid march the patriots need tight ends. They need wide receivers and consider the words of chargers. Tight end hunter henry when he said recently that he's looking for two things in free agency money and a good quarterback. Will it stands to reason that the patriots are going to want some clarity at quarterback as they consider free agent receivers and tight ends. What does that mean could they pry. Jimmy garoppolo away from the niners. Consider marcus mariota as a treat. Option from the raiders. Or maybe even run it back with cam newton or consider some other free agents like jameis winston laura. Yeah mike brings up a really good point there. If you don't have the quarterback in place field it's real hard to sell these guys on coming in new england. So is new england. A destination for free agent certainly used to be. Let me start here. Laura and say that any team that's willing to spend big is a destination for free. Let's just run through some restaurants where the desirable places to go. Everybody signed with the raiders. Last year you know. Why because the raiders pay top dollar. Didn't do a whole lot of good as they missed the playoffs. We know last year. But nick wykowski and cory littleton and carl massive and all those guys got huge money the jaguars they're winners. And i use air quotes when i say winners of free agency a multiple occasions because they pay top dollar if the patriots are willing to pay top dollar for players. They're going to be in the mix how things are different now. Compared to where they were in previous years is if you're a player who's looking for a one year modest deal because you really want to prioritize winning well then obviously after. The patriots went seven and nine last year. You're not going to look at new england in the same way that you would a kansas city a tampa bay or a green bay but i continue to believe that the primary factor in free agency. That matters is money. Pay me big baby faces. Preacher right now listen all one hundred henry say it right now son says they make him the highest paid tidy. He'll be doing the patriot. Baby that's how they are as every free agent out there whether it's jonnu smith hunter henry chris godwin allen robinson. Listen if i'm the patriots. That's how i'm going after. I'm going to get these big name guys and i'll tell them listen. We have a plan at quarterback. We don't know exactly how we're gonna execute it but this is what we're looking for. But ultimately money talked right so when players talk about this thing hunter henry. This is his. This is his conversation but the truth is you're buying low on the patriots. Which is the way you should do you play. The stock market fell as. That's the way you do it right bilo. The patriots are seven and nine with a quarterback who couldn't touchdown with opt-outs all over an injuries and no outside presents. This team can win bill. Belichick has proven. He can win games. He'll bring guys in re this roster. This team has all upside. If i'm going and they pay me man. I'll be patriot. No doubt no doubt men. And i'm glad both of y'all like that's why i love being here working with john man and so many people. Y'all so damn good because that is the that is the narrative the narrative is no longer. Let's go to new england and win a super bowl. Tom brady is the quarterback. The narrative is the new england. Patriots have really good football players on their defense. They have some things fix offensively and now they have like most of the franchises have had to do over there. Rain over there era. the era is over. Is fine like this is this is the normalcy of football which most people go through. If you're fortunate enough to draft the patrick mahomes or not dissimilar. Because that's the choice that prescott enough to have roger that to draft being you can obviously choose of the directions the goal but now bill belichick the new england patriots crap. They are in a situation most. Nfl teams find themselves in at the end of the year. They have to get better on off. It's they need skill position players. They have to get better at the quarterback spot. How many teams that we've talked about the need to get better at quarterback needs to get better at pieces. I'm so glad we can push this. Conversation forward baby-faced gates and jeff sat. Because that was jeff saturday saturday. All right let's bring matt miller our nfl draft analyst back into the conversation here. Do you see the patriots taking quarterback in the draft there at fifteen. So they'd have to do something that they never do. And trade up. That's the key at fifteen. They're six teams ahead of them. That need a quarterback. They're not seven quarterbacks. In this trap that will be selected in the first shot. So they're really in a hard spot where they want a couple of games late they push themselves out of that conversation as she said lord they don't trade up in the first round also they don't have the capital to do it. They have seven choices in this draft. They don't have a third round pick again. That was it belongs to the nfl now. So they're really in a spot. Where those veterans that we saw. Whether it's a marcus mariota. Jacoby brusett is a free agent. Maybe they try to bring him back into the fold but they find themselves almost in this quarterback purgatory of there. Were just good enough. Not the draft one in the first round now. Is there a late round guy. You can see him. Going after late ran this year means developmental. So not someone that you would feel like. This is another. Tom brady where you get him. One hundred ninety. Ubs starter. But if if they wanted to run back a similar offense as last year with quarterback power we could see sam ellen grit texas ran a similar type of offense in college where he can't he could run the ball. He's almost like a short yardage goal. I'm back at times. But that's the package not a quarterback to solve problems. Here's the best part about this. Is that spears yet. Look as we got like ten seconds. We're going to have to talk about sam elegant tomorrow. Nfl live and and listen. That's for tomorrow because we'll see then. Oh my goodness..

"Process. I mean thoughts in their mind as they get ready for draft as they get ready for free agency so it is difficult. I just thought that was a great point. Field brought up you. Reiterate nails is that he has a ripple effect around the entire lead based on how they seems. Go move around. So what does the future at quarterback looked like in pittsburgh exactly and big big part of that but some people are wondering so team president art rooney the second issued this statement on big ben. This morning saying ben rothlisberger. And i met yesterday morning. We had a productive meetings. We were able to discuss a lot of things that relate to where we are where we wanna go benazir me that he's committed to coming back and helping us win. And i told end we would like to have him back to help us win a championship. We both understand. The next step is to work out bins contract situation. I slowed down there a little bit on that last line filled because that line is maybe the important in the statement. Why is that one hundred percent lower. Because i understand that ben regressed down the stretch as the team did as well those things normally go hand in hand together but still if you look at the realistic options for the steelers right now. The best quarterback available to them for twenty twenty one is ben rothlisberger but if it was as simple as that their desire plus his desire to return being the solution. This wouldn't even be a conversation right now. That contracts where things get really tricky. You're talking about a two time superbowl winning champion. Who has been obviously the a part of this franchise for his entire career. Seventeen seasons in total. The question about that contract is probably not you know we just manipulated so you have the same amount of money owed to you. We just make it a signing bonus as opposed to obey salary. It's probably how much of a pay cut or are you willing to take to make this all work. Which even though as acknowledged he's going to have to restructure his deal laura. I just think it's a tricky situation to go to a player a future hall of famer one of the best players in your franchise's history and say here's the amount of money we're willing to pay you and it's probably if my instincts are correct. Not quite as much as he's currently which is north of nineteen million dollars for the twenty twenty one season. Marcus doesn't like the idea of people messing with the man's money the other thing too about this. That doesn't even alleviate the cap hit situation which is a whole other thing but do you think that ben is the right choice for the steelers qb hundred percent. I think he's the right choice. Listen when you when you talk of winfield was saying it. I agree with everything. He's talking about the money part but he was regressing. I disagree with. I mean look this guy threw for thirty eight hundred yards over thirty touchdown that ten picks or something like that. This guy manages football team. Their defence got decimated with injury as a season went on which we know. Is the cowboys football team right. It's it's what they hang their hat on. we understand. They had no run game and really their past blocking was atrocious. Everybody every pittsburgh fan. That's gonna tweet me and tell me all look look at the pf numbers or whatever. Now bro go watch the film right. Watch how fast. This guy has to get the ball out of his hands to get things done. It is their run game. This in dunk. Is there run game. They need to get their offense of line fix and allow been to run. The football and fall in this can them to a championship. I do believe there was a afc teams. It has a chance. It's through ben roethlisberger. Look jeff which humana man. And i understand what you come in from but i'm also thinking that being is in that same vein where you have to build around him and not ask him to be the burger that we all had grown accustomed to. That's on pittsburgh steelers. Another thing that's on the steelers is the be in a better place in when you have an agent quarterback and you don't have to be in this scenario that you're ear where he has the comeback or you just talking up a year with a good with good players in a good defensive unit. We all got to remember bud. Dupree got hurt devin. Bush got hurt on his way. Like we the steelers oi good football team. The offense was the absolute number one to jeff's point which i know disappointed him like hail during this football season. They're offered to the pittsburgh steelers. Offense of land is never supposed to be bad. They are never supposed now the conversation where we're talking about. They don't have the offensive line to get things done but they didn't and they have to have a run game bill after. Have those pieces. Look at what they did in tampa look what they did in new orleans. Look at what they did for. Philip rivers in india. Look at what they did for men and denver do that for being pittsburgh and that guy can be telling y'all can be yeah and remember pounds. He's retiring to so another whole they would have to fill on that o. Line next season alright feels like every time we throw out teams. That could be destination for quarterbacks on the move the forty niners sneak in a lot of that has to do with the pieces around whoever's quarterback in san francisco win their healthy as we've seen super bowl is achievable for that roster at full strength and maybe the other reason the forty niners a destination for other keys. There's still a school of thought. Says jimmy d can't be a difference maker there but how about this. John lynch asked. If there's any doubt that jimmy garoppolo is there starter. If healthy he said no not at all you can see what else he said he went on to talk about. You know. obviously he's got to be healthy in this that and the other we've got us around him and insulate him better but filled when you see this. It's kind of interesting. Because john lynch is coming out making a pretty strong statement that could mean a variety of a variety of things. Right could mean that. Jimmy d is back there but also could mean something holds and philipson on that i was gonna say laura and i respect the heck out of john lynch. Who's an excellent general manager. I just have a rule that when a quarterback is that all a question mark for mobile face january or february assertions of confidence as anything more than what you'd expect a gm to say i could reinterpret this quotas. Yeah we're going to keep them but if you make the right offer he'd be available in a trade and we've now the juncture of jimmy garoppolo contracts and here. I am again speaking. About how almost all of these decisions are driven by the finances that if the forty niners were to cut or trade jimmy garoppolo at two point eight million dollar dead salary cap chart for all intents and purposes means that can either find somebody else to replace him or get enough in a trade to make it worth it. Jimmy garoppolo was a piece that they could reasonably find a new homeport. He does have a no trade clause. But as much as john lynch and the forty niners could run it back with jimmy g. Next year nothing would surprise me with this team depending on who becomes available the rest of the way. This offseason love. I love baby face. I love it. I love what you're going to. You live right. The i need to go elimidate something. I'm gonna tell you the god's honest truth like my man big per se. Libya you like the numbers on a house. The number one thing that john said was if the right situation presents itself. Jimmy garoppolo would not be out quarterback. Let houston call san francisco and say we won't play ball. We want to figure out how to get. Y'all guy get out guy with some pics. Let that happen like all of this stuff right. We know is subject to change. But one important part of what i saw. What john lewis said. We have to insulate him. That ain't where you wanna be right. Now that's the reality for majority of the teams in the nfl. Because sometimes we get it conflicted. We think in order for you to be a franchise guy you need to carry your team and lift them above right. It's only a few guys that can do that. But you also have to show up in those moments right and for us. That is the question we have. And we've had.

"big ben" Discussed on First Take
"All right there the steelers in this as you know. Is i take a good morning. Everybody thinks being here with us. Check out this crew. Today we had some fun on monday. Hope to do it again today. We've got dominic foxworth ryan clark. I'm charlie arnold guys of references pop culture all of the above on monday. I hope to beat that count. Today are getting started with some sports shall we. Let's get started with the steelers as we all know that clinched the afc north this past sunday and head coach. Mike tomlin has announced since that ben roethlisberger will play this coming sunday in their season finale against the browns in order to give the thirty eight year old quarterback. Some rest ahead of the season ryan. Are you confident in big ben during the playoffs You know that that that question's a little a little loaded charlie. I mean. I don't think he folks to start the show. Were those kind of started with them with some softballs. Let me hit some home runs. And then i can get some synchronous and we have a great show but i trust them enough to be who he is. I trust them enough to be the best. He can possibly be at this stage of his career. Big ben can't carry this team. Know what you saw in the second. Half of the indianapolis colts game is not what you're going to see going forward into playoffs. He's not gonna duplicate that for to have. A football been has to be disciplined. But this is the smart decision to keep your mouth right because you want him to be as healthy as he possibly can. You don't wanna see those skipping into the dirt like we saw against the cincinnati bengals the the the rubber because they don't have dirt on their field. You don't wanna see the bad decision making like the interception to mackenzie alexander are choosing the wrong crossing route and get juju smith schuster blown up and my dog can't even go corvette corvette before the game starts on the logo because people are blaming him for losing the game. No ben you throw it into the wrong people now. Ooh future can't get they shine on before the game on tiktok and so when you see all these things happen and then now you see the way. Big ben shows his championship medal in the second half against the indianapolis coach his ability to actually push the ball down to fill going outside the numbers and doing so with velocity with accuracy with the efficiency. Those things get you excited. Those things make you feel like okay. They're still a little bit less left in the championship. But let's not be food. This is an afc championship team. This isn't a super bowl team. And so in order for ben rothlisberger to be as successful as he wants to be right. Because when you a pittsburgh steelers steeler. It's about winning the championship. In order for big ben to get to that level is going to take much more from the run game much more from the office of line like we saw in the second half against the codes. But it's gonna take mike hilton. Picking up homeboy running into the five. Mike hilton picking off a deep ball against philip rivers pressure by two it pressure by heywood pressure by tj. What has so much more. That goes into the success of the kids. Burke steelers other than ben rothlisberger remember we note. They don't win it without been playing well as we've seen while the season absolutely have some confidence a high level of competence and ben to be been. I think you're right. They're gonna need a lot more help. But i think dan orlovsky made a good point when we did this show on monday and i stole his color combo because i thought it look nice so i brought it today with the brown in the anyway. That's that's off the topic. I straight pumping better personally. No i'm i work well or a little bit better myself. But i think that off the top ryan's reactor perfect. He had that face where it was kind of a smile. But not like at the end deter when path. Cheerful giver. you. I'm happy that's how you smiled. And it was the same feeling sa feel about ben. Rothlisberger is that's the only choice you have at that moment when he stayed. Lord love the cheerful giver. You'd better smile while you giving you. Don't have no other choice. You can go to ben. Rothlisberger is your choice. No frankly it's not a bad choice to have. He's been in the playoffs. He's one playoff games in a role on the road. He's one super bowl. He's done all those things and is shown that he has the capability to touch that old. Ben roth rothlisburger on occasion. Yeah he's not gonna put you on his back. He's not going to be banned big. Been the big ben all game. But you don't want him to be you ask him to be that. That's not how your team is going to succeed. You need him to just be able just like he did last week just to be able to pull out a little been rothlisberger when we need it standing that pocket. Take those hits by some time. Throw an accurate ish. Pass downfield when we need to. And he's capable of doing that. So i have high confidence in him doing that as long as they don't ask him to do anymore. This defense is gonna need the play well for him to win. And those receivers are gonna have to make big plays. They're not gonna just develop a running game out of nowhere. They know how to play. They know how to win. They're well coached team. And i like being around. I think i've heard you say something before. And if i'm misquoting you i apologize my dog. We do a lot of tv together. But i think. I heard they say before that great great quarterbacks when they start to get older the thing that they can do is be great and spurts right. What happens is they. Don't lose it totally but you can't ask them to be great for four quarters weekend and week out. i think that's where we are with. Ben right now i mean much like you say when the preacher says he wants a cheerful giver he also is going to tell you know they'll take the money that jingle but they read the kind that folds well he's gonna he's gonna jingle a little bit right he's gonna hit the collection plate and it's going to claim a little bit but every now and then you get the money that folds and we got that against the indianapolis colts. We saw him once. He commanded the offense a little bit. Hurry up and some of those things that he feels comfortable. Doing we saw a little bit of the old big been. The problem is how much better you're going to ask him to bring up right. How much of the big. Ben does he have to remember. Does he have to show you week in and week out while you're in the playoffs because you can't expect that down in and down you have to find something else that bolsters and gives them a chance to make those critical situational football play moments. That's what he's great at best for him to do but you can't ask the whole game now. The best thing the best thing about ben rothlisberger. Because i believe he knows that he's changed his game because he knows that he's getting rid of the ball quicker because he knows his limitations. I think that's the difficult thing. When you deal with guys who are older who were superstars and they still believe that person in the past been seems to be aware that he's not that guy he plays within himself as the collection plate is coming around when it comes to been he not go coming to america putting no chicken bone sick he not go for the paper keno. He only got one bill. He goes save that hill end-of-service because you know they send it around multiple times they gotta do to build a fun they gotta do sick shut in and then they got the old church churchtown. So is it gonna sit around multiple times everytime become around. He'll put a quarter in that thing. He go put a little jingle jangle dangling thing he gonna wait to the last time come around. It's the fourth quarter. He going to take out his big one dollar. Bill go folded in half hold up hostile. Everybody can and they're put it in there with a smile on his face because he understands. That's the worst part. I think when you have a superstar like that or guy who's won superbowl one. Mvp's and put teams on his back when they get to thirty eight years old. They get late in their career. They're like hey. I'm still that guy. I look in a mirror. And i still see that. Twenty five twenty eight year old spry a gunslinger but been. He doesn't see that he knows that he has his limitations. And you saw how. He doesn't hold onto the ball nearly as long. He doesn't try to shake off. Defensive ends like he used to do that in the fourth quarter. We needs to look around the afc or you look around the league frankly. I don't know that there are a lot of quarterbacks that i i would feel as confident as do ben rothlisberger. Obviously those top guys that just. We'll put the team on the back. Then the rest of the guys are guys that you like kind of hope. Don't mess it up. Don't hope they don't try to do too much. So i think the steelers in a good spot with ben rothlisberger because he is self aware.

"Love where. We're at the sense of urgency in the locker room at halftime. It was a very calm. Very calm by him. Just go make a play. We got the ball. Let's go make a play and we'd go down to the school or so a little fire in the offense defensively a really disappointed. When they entered that with another touchdown. But i think our defense needs to To reevaluate themselves a little bit and get back to what. We're what we're supposed to be done and what we're capable of doing okay. I agree with him there. The defense has been playing well. I'm i'm gonna stop with my takes. This i feel like i've been very mean this verse our But i'm going to go with this one. Here's how i feel about this comeback notion with the bucks. Let's i keep in mind. They were playing the falcons which we joke all day long. It's like the falcons and the lions constantly give up fourth quarter leads. So let's pat anyone on the back for coming. Back against the falcons. I don't care if it's tom. Brady carson wentz. You can go down the line. That's first of all second of all. This notion that. Bruce arians has presented that tom brady suddenly just a fourth. Quarter quarterback is crap like. That's not true. That is not true. There have been multiple games. Or you've seen. Tom brady played very well from the first quarter to the fourth quarter. Is he capable of mounting a comeback. Yes that's why we call him the goat. Of course he is but that is not generally who he has been over the past few decades just a fourth quarter comeback. In addition to that bruce arians said the other day that he doesn't understand why his team can't go out and play sixty minutes they can play thirty minutes of good football and they can't play sixty minutes typically when you look at teams and they go out in the first quarter and they look really good. It's because these coaches have scripted. Plays obviously they're prepared for their opponent. Yes this is good okay. And then sometimes the other team figures out. What they're doing and adjustments are made and then the game changes. It's like for the bucks it's completely reverse. They go out and they look almost lost like a completely different football team in every phase of the game. Because it's airy offense events special teams because who scheming and who's planning what's out of the gate and he says we go into halftime and tom. Brady's giving a message like we're gonna go out and make a play so tom. Brady's the one calling the shots in the second half and what do we have a better bucks team in the second half. Is this surprising. anyone know. That doesn't mean tom. Brady's fourth quarter quarterback it means he's figuring out what's happening in by the second half he's had enough of it just just a reminder that tom brady is one four verse playoff teams this year. Jameis winston was oh and six verse playoff teams another reminder that the bucks average twenty eight point six points per game this year the average twenty eight point six per points per game last year so not necessarily to your point just too much to say. The tom brady. Experiment is still up in the air right now for talking trust. I'm not sure how much we have in the bucks but we will later on his show. Talk about how high a level of trust we have in playoff. Quarterbacks discussion has the clock struck midnight and big. Ben's career speaking of quarterbacks that's next keyshawn j. will zubin. Espn radio and the espn app. J. will end zubin.

"Heart in brooklyn and kyrie can win it all. That's what i'm saying. Because of what the lakers have done. Okay that's exactly what's going to be required. There is nothing else. That's going to stop the lakers. Other than the prospect of heart and durant and kyrie together. Nothing else is gonna knock off the lakers. Nothing let's stephen. Let's wait till the trade deadline. Daryl morey is the gm in houston in philly now just talking about now to to celebrate state bar surprisingly great rates. We gave this game day. Jam surprising hey cop state good neighbour couple of weeks ago. Cam heyward said it almost feels like you guys are playing for college. Football playoff berth. Just with the pressure of remaining undefeated how do you keep the guys focused on the postseason goals in the future versus the immediate stretch of the season cams just giving you. What you want doesn't believe that you know we. We live week to week. We got challenges this week as as the plan the ravens We need to go to notice week. We don't bear any burden if you will or a worry about cumulative records of what lies ed. We're that lives one week at a time with single professionally focused and that's where we are steven. You're steelers ten know taken on the ravens. We got another good thursday night football. Matchup guys stephen. Do you think this game is more pittsburgh or baltimore though. I think it's more about the ravens more about us. Finding out who the ravens are. They've got the number one rushing attack in football. Obviously because lamar jackson and they've got the second worst passing attack arguably because a lamar jackson. Lamar jackson has played in ten. Nfl game this year and he hasn't even two two thousand yards yet on the season gentleman. That's less than two hundred yards per game. That's not gonna get. That's not going to cut the mustard not in a conference. That has patrick. Mahomes and shawn watson ambig- ben roethlisberger. And if you wanna give some props not even philip rivers. What he's doing in india. Ryan tannehill in tennessee or josh allen in buffalo. Look at all of these names that. Come before lamar jackson when it comes to throw a football right now so you've got to find that out more importantly than that even the third ranked defense all right this sixteenth against a rush and they got pushed around and beat up by the tennessee. Titans this past week and then so in terms of their toughness when you consider the games that customarily associated with the steelers going up against the ravens smash mouth football. Take no prisoners. You know what you just leave it all out on the field. We ain't backing down from anybody. When i getting pushed around we're not gonna having. Aj brown catch a pass and spin and get pushed into the end zone and bowled over like like they did last like what happened. Last week against tennessee. The steelers a knock do that. That's the kind of attitude that the ravens should have in this game. We should be. They should be committed to finding out who they are and what they're made of. It's not about the score in a game like this. It's about playing smash mouth football. Make sure you don't get punked and showing your metal. The steelers are undefeated at ten. And oh even if they lost okay. They would do a game where they lost something like that. We noted defensively. We noticed big ben rothlisberger. Vp candidate we know that when he goes. Five watt would all of those receivers with juju smith schuster and klay pool and james washington and diontae johnson. And all of these boys we know how lethal of an offense they can be with their pass and we get all of that about the pittsburgh steelers the hell auto baltimore ravens for the first time and damn near two decades. We're looking at them. And saying what the hell is their identity. There is no ray lewis. There is no ed reed. The is no terrell suggs. There's nobody like that somebody who is going to have to stand the hell up and show who the hell they are and what this organization is supposed to stand for. I'm a steelers fan. So i'm good with it but the bottom line is that if you're the ravens that's what this is about the you. This is about more than an outcome. this is about more than just a football game. This is you against the steelers with an opportunity to remind the world who the hell you are. Traditionally as a franchise to the steelers. It's not just another game but only because it's an afc battle to the ravens. This season is on the line along with them. Mystique at least at this moment in time you just prove my point for me. This is about the steelers and the reason is there's an undefeated team heading into week. Twelve in a rivalry game. And you think it's about the other team the six and fourteen and you're a steelers fan and what that really speaks to. His people don't believe the steelers are special. They don't believe it. We're in week twelve heading into week. Twelve and their undefeated and people don't believe they're special and they've beaten the titans and they've beaten the ravens the ravens and people don't believe this in the steelers not really not really the number one. Any power rankings. Not a monarch got the chiefs. What about your stephen. The number one. We're gonna find out stevens a-list coming up a little bit later. No people don't believe in the steelers and yet that's why this game is about them. How special can they beat their entering the rivalry game the best one in football at the moment where in since the turn of this century this century ain't as young as it used to be right. We're heading it. We're in the third decade of this century already and they've played each other going into this season. Forty four talks us. We have forty four times. You know what the record is in those forty four games. Twenty two and twenty two says even as it can be and the steelers won the first game which means that inner rivalry game for the reasons. You just pointed out with all the questions about lamar jackson. Who are ravens this team. That was practically unbeaten last year in baltimore but hasn't won a playoff game. Lamar looking like us progressing. The league adjusting to lamar jackson right. Take away the middle of the field. Don't let them run to the outside and he has not been able and the coaching staff has not been able to adjust the steelers. Sweep the ravens. Doesn't feel like they would in the season like this feels like the steelers. I loss you circle it on the calendar that seconds. Ravens game ravens. I'm going to lose twice this steelers team. No the steepest about the steelers and a special team having a special season that still no one believes in. This game is more about pittsburgh. Well let's see you can look at it that way. I can understand that the reason. Why don't view it. That way is because to me. The only thing i'm thinking about is the kansas city chiefs when it comes to the pittsburgh steelers. I don't think there's anything else standing in this team's way. I don't think there's anything else that should be standing in their way. The steelers to me or or kansas city. Victory away from going to the super bowl plain and simple. Nothing else matters. I don't give a damn if they lose two or three games the away. I'm not concerned about anybody. But the kansas city chiefs when it comes to the pittsburgh steelers the steelers can beat themselves against other people but the kansas city chiefs is the one team that i believe. The steelers can bring their a game and still lose to that particular team. I don't see anybody else in the afc doing that to them. Which is why. I'm not thinking about the steelers right now. I'm thinking about the ravens because the steelers tend to know the raided the ravens. This on the line max. Let me ask you this. The steelers are a four and a half point favorite. Do you think big ben. Roethlisberger is still top five quarterback at this point. No i don't and through a lot of his career he was. He was never usually a top three. But a lot of times. Top five quarterback rogers and.

NFL suspends all activities for Titans after positive COVID-19 cases
"Few players from Tennessee titans tested positive for in nineteen, which has prompted the NFL from suspending all activities bore the titans until more tests come out well, they came out The three titans week for opponent are the three steelers initial reports said that the game would be postponed until Monday or possibly even Tuesday. But an additional titans player tested positive on Thursday morning, which led to the temporary cancellation of this contest. The Titans and steelers will not be playing their game this week and the NFL must find a way to rescheduled game by maneuvering weeks and or even possible that the game may be lost. We don't really know yet by the way. NFL has spoken about issues such as this. It seems like they'll do whatever they can within reason to reschedule the game. As we know, the sport of football is a lot different than other sports and rescheduling games could be an issue due to the nature of the sport, but we're GonNa have to see what transpires throughout the year. This may not be the only time that something like this actually occurs and when it happened with the Saint Louis Cardinals Baseball, they could just reschedule doubleheaders at our seven. Years later in the season and kicked, that can down the road. I don't know if you can do that in the NFL is such a physical game and players need time to rehab throughout a week. They need time to heal because our bodies are so sore after a football game but. As. Of Right now, take Juju. James Connor. Big Ben King Henry Corey Davis Tanna Hill and whoever you were starting out of your lineups and adjust sucks I know hopefully some of you are in leagues where Your Commissioners on top of coordination and they allow you to drop without penalty and pick up after the week where no one else in you your league can go in and scoops. You dropped him connor no, one can pick them up and just be reassigned to your team from assuming not all leagues have that kind of freedom. But let me just go back to this if you've got Gus Sqi in the hall of fame. Above above I don't have. This, Burger. Where we call skip bayless logic that Ben Rothlisberger is probably going to be in hall of fame around him in the head of everybody in the world. That's the head of every kick art. Ahead of all kickers all of them all say, all the acid John. Four. Zero s the gain seven tonight between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers. Neither of US saw this trauma, the nuns who were down three, two, one to Utah and one were down three two one to the clippers to the clippers have been the favorites to win the NBA Championship all year because of the editions of Kawhi Leonard Paul. George will on what is on the line for the clippers tonight everything. I everything Tony them in this season was set up that look if the clippers to go out and lose to Lebron and the Lakers in the next round I mean, you're not gonNA nobody's GonNa scream bloody murder over that. That's Lebron James and the Lakers in those two teams looked all season the whole the Lakers finished a few games of the clippers like equals and the clippers I know you care about this I don't have been the betting favourite in Vegas, leave from the bill of the season back that's for Halloween. So Everything you. Do you picked him? I'm picking a win in October. I, been all the way through Tony Romo. Even at three two. I wasn't ready to say, Oh, I'M GONNA change my mind. I mean if doc rivers and the staff that brilliant staff knew, what was wrong data gotten it fixed or gone a long way toward it already would you got a couple of hall of famers on that team? Yes. They go in even in the case of Leonard Before Ben Rothlisberger. So. Everything's stay. Do you disagree with that? No I think what is truly at stake in the reputations of two all star players who I've Leonard and Paul George because they were brought there this circumstance if there was a game seven to win a game seven and I think if they were to lose this who why will be okay because he's been the finals MVP. Yeah. Until different team so he'll run away from this bill land on Paul. George playoff t it will confirm that he has a true loser in the way that people look at James Harden playoffs since I can't win playoff games there's a lot of money that was spent on these two guys I do think they're going to win this game. I think you would agree that if they don't win this game, people are GonNa look and go what happened here I, Steve, bomber, what are you spending all this money on because they're locked into these guys for years and they might have to think about trading Paul George in order to retool the team. If they lose this totally out hate to think that that that look first of all Denver talented and we're GONNA look down the road I believe will down the rule. We'll look back and we'll say why Don't learn the clippers that now start out but they have guys who will be stars, Tony and three year. which is to not litter George and Jamal Murray is he's come you don't. "And were returning quarterback thirty eight year old Ben Rothlisberger. Rothlisberger missed almost all of last year with an elbow injury and came back to throw three touchdown passes and take off on an electrifying albeit lumbering sir sound run that surprised though everyone in. The world, we'll find the Roth asperger's triumphant. Convince you at the steelers among the AFC's best. I know it's too early to get into where people are our friends. We even a division at this point what it did was first of all, you said luxury I thought in real time rothlisburger look pretty good I mean he did not look like he needs to. His. Knees replaced while he was making that run I thought he looked pretty good look if you have a quarterback who knows how to win big games and Ben Rothlisberger having won two super bowls knows that if you've got a quarterback and a defense, you got something you got any conference city division at any time you got something. Now how long you can sustain that is what we'll be looking to. See from week to going forward Tony but the defense is there the defense the steelers had last year they didn't have a quarterback and so even though they were in position to make the playoffs, make some noise they couldn't they didn't have their hall of fame quarterback. Now they do in their defense is intact and a running game with a backup running back can be productive satellite the steelers position. One. After week will ask you to obvious question here. What was the head coach of the giants even watching this game? Going on. They were killed. We can say Quantum Barclay. Let me get my numbers right here. How `bout his numbers. Wow. Fifteen Russia's. That's what we call. Barron Sanders Lamb steelers, helium fair to wore. He got to the line of scrimmage eleven, different times and You keep him the ball that just ends. You are not paying attention. I. Found that incredible? Told, you know what? It reminds me of that clip from Lawrence Taylor, and of course Lewis, Taylor was playing for the giants. It was against the redskins with giant. Wherever, it was and Lawrence Taylor looked at somebody as he held them off the ground running back and he says son Y'all got to do better than this. I thought of that last night because somebody's sitting said. Should have been in the headset of the giants coach is saying son would he? Do. This, all of my goodness sake one barkley is a terrific back. Past and give them some freedom to your point about the quarterback will argue hall of Famer Not Hall of fame it for a different day. But I will say this he is much much better than Mason Rudolph and duck odd yours. Allowed the. We points in the league last year sober Ben can get them twenty one, a game look I'm being sustained play Baltimore. Want. Well. We're GONNA see that a couple of times we will, and by the way it was great about Rob's Burgers when he finally got down immediately called time which the Denver Coach Yasu You we'll get to that. You. Slipped by those Broncos in the late game Stephen God's Hausky. Won It with a chip shot with seventeen seconds left after missing three. Field Goals as positively bears like and an extra point earlier in the game broncos head coach you boy Vic Fangio is. Lit Up for not using two timeouts down the stretch tone what's the word out Tennessee? She feel about its win over the broncos. The word is grateful because the coach of Denver handed them that game and grateful because Stephen Gostkowski was eventually going to be in the hall of fame. Finally put a kid through the UPRIGHTS and not wide look they should fire Fangio today because they should have fired fangio yesterday you got to call in that. Situation, you've got to assume that Gostkowski is finally going to kick appeal go just like in golf you assume that guy's GonNa make the part and you're going to have to make the pot. You end up giving this twenty five yard shot which he Mesa, and you don't have any time. You can't do anything when Derrick Henry was down again. Let me get the right numbers here with one twenty seven to go on the Denver Sixteen you call. There well, I was. Thinking and fund you're there was something wrong last night. He was explaining what a genius was known. Back Down he backed out of that, he backed up on that today. Tony. In subsequent comments, we would say it was lions like that was lions like. That last night after a tackle was made on. Your can right about that. But I'M GONNA I'M GONNA go a little bit differently on this and I agree with everything you said about Fangio and what they did and Denver I agree with all that. But this look it seems like the Tennessee titans are just built for winning these games and look winning close games as the bears were reminded earlier a day earlier, it depends often on the mistakes of your opponents, but you have to be able to capitalize, and so let's see titans who by the way the Tennessee titans I mean when they feel like it seems like once every fifteen tries. One phony and it's interesting. You Got Gus Caskey automatically the hall of fame but not Ben Rothlisberger I'm sorry the fumes getting to you in the attic because Ben Rhonda's. Take the ball every snow care about that understands workers responsible primarily for. Allergy was. On basket around Tom Brady doctor close game dollar second you boy. Fangio as now coach for one year and one game, and in that period of time he has lost the lead four times in the last thirty seconds. So that's how they do close games I liked Tennessee I like raval I like Tannahill I like Henry but they were making forty four percent of their last year only got to the AFC championship. So they bring on Gostkowski and he has twenty five. By the way I have a question for you. I wrote down one guy who's missed four kicks in one game and still wanted to gain do you know that might be let me give you a hint Don't..

I'm pretty sure everybody has fought Mike Tyson regardless of his record except Vander Holyfield. Truly felt that way. Again, the term exhibition means a lot to me, which means somebody's GonNa stop either one of them from taking a lot of punishment and or really getting injured. "Drops back throws the ball up and there's five Pittsburgh steelers there that could have intercepted the pass not one. Stop this straight here. There's five Pittsburgh steelers that could've intercepted that fast jalen business really bad for the giants just how bad do you think it will be the season Well, all I know is you have a couple of good games in the media. Give you a nickname. River that Ryan Fitzpatrick he can put on the Sean John Dijon Jackson's closing. We think he's cute. What happened a Yoga Danny dimes Jacoby? What happened? Danny. Penny you tell me. Danny. Danny one time he had one good throw the entire game in the first. Try The second job is like Oh look at that just saying maybe maybe he really is daytime. See is not. My. These guys have to improve what they're doing under center. The jets and giants are absolutely terrible. Now, there's also another game the second game in an football doubleheader between a team that was one game away from the Super Bowl in Tennessee titans. But let me tell you something certainly didn't look like a team that was one game away from the super both. Now while Tehrik Henry did run for over one hundred yards just didn't feel like a team that. was poised to make a run. This season Tannahill didn't look Great Derrick Henry looked. All right. The receiving core dropped some passes. Jalen is a lot of discussion today about the kicker, but I just wanted to point out that it wasn't just the kicker that got this team in trouble. Let's turn our eyes to Gostkowski. What what did you see from him? Tell us the tale of late night gus cows. This fellow is literally cost and his team opportunities to win football games, how you going to miss two field goals and extra point. So here's my plea. Conference, finals they got that tonight the people want to Monday night football games. They got that last night, and that is where we start with big fan is back. He returned to the field after elbow surgery and didn't miss a beat him and Juju Smith Schuster connected time and time again as you see right here, Jalen did last night's performance convinced you that their contender in the AFC. It. Didn't convince me that their contender Jacoby I. I want to celebrate Big Ben being back the future hall of Famer. It was great to see him back in the lineup my rock nation brother Juju Smith great to see him in the end zone. Washington being physical at the goal line getting into end zone they had a hundred yard rusher and we noted defense is ferocious. But can big being really stay healthy Jacoby as we break down this team. And I, WANNA. Get enthusiastic and I wanna say that their defense can carry them to a super bowl contending season and they're not thinking of other teams in the AFC and I'm like Patrick Mahomes. Really good. And they got weapons. The Ravens are really good. And they got weapons. You gotTA score to beat those teams and I'm just not sure the Pittsburgh steelers based on this style of great coaching. Really, disciplined offense low turnovers, smash mouth. Football get actually win a super bowl in a modern day era where people just throwing the football all around a lot every game it was encouraging to see them win a little discouraging to see big Ben Limping around the field and James Connor go down and Big Ben had run for eleven yards, which I can't even call to call it like a job for eleven yards with eleven yards was more than saquon. Barkley, gained from the line of scrimmage all day long. Now, you have to give a lot of credit to the Pittsburgh steeler defense, but the giants offense. A blind not does not give them a whole he was he was touched behind the line of scrimmage I think eleven times, eight times before he even got a chance to turn up field. It was a very tough day for saquon Barkley and made me feel like this giants team is as bad as we thought, they would be and nothing demonstrates that more than Daniel Jones on this play watch this play from Daniel Jones, he just marched down the field on nineteen play drive ninety yards. "Dealership they're successful. Well, that was packers head coach Matt low-floor on Aaron Rodgers earlier in the week. Now last night the sixteenth your packers quarterback had his chance to address his future with this franchise after. Green. Bay. Drafted his eventual replacement. Jordan love in the off season ticket listen. I savor every moment every season I don't take any of it for granted on I don't know what the what the future holds I know I can control. This year and my play and in my approach in my attitude. I retire on on the teams. You know time line than all as well. But if they're looking to move on before I'm ready to be done bland. There there comes in at that point I can control. You know my play and and my performance, my coach, my leadership. but at some point, you know there's other factors involved. The back and forth continues on. We're all just bored but it just seems like this has been going on since that draft Ni- of WHO's saying this who saying that what does this all mean? So Kimberly, what's been your take away from this entire situation hearing from both Matt, Leflore and Aaron Rodgers. I love passive aggressive Aaron Rodgers he's just gonNA. Tell you exactly what he thinks You know listen the team made its statement regardless of what Matt Leflore says this week next week to months from now good team made it statement embiid draft it a team that went thirteen and three last year had opportunities and loaded draft to take wide receivers came in moved into the first round and took a quarterback took a quarterback even after the niners took wide receiver in spot before. So you know that's all the packers need to. Say and Matt LaPorte saying right now guy well, yes. The key key words there right now, the team mate had statement Rogers made his, and this is going to be fascinating to watch over the next couple of years ten. This is an organization that's never really yearned for quarterback right? They've always had their guy on the bench waiting to step into become the starter but here you have Matt Leflore young coach just in his second year with the future hall of fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, how is this relationship going to work? I think it all start to become. Contentious to be honest with you. There was so much made last year about their relationship. You're not a control Aaron would have the line of Scrimmage If that was GONNA Bother Matt with learn in terms of how he wanted his offense to operate. And so now you have a situation where there's no doubt that Aaron Rodgers feels betrayed. Probably feels like. This kind of new regime in the front office and the head coach turn their back on him when he's got plenty of good football left, and so now you know any type of. Conflict any type of friction that you're going to get during the season which you are going to get. You know now all of a sudden you might have. An Aaron Rodgers that's less looking forward to to try. To make it work out and maybe more apt to just make his point and do it his way I mean look that's how I would envision it going. Heard people talk about there being a power struggle. There will be a power struggle because the quarterback will play well, and he'll feel like the team is trying to move on from him. Yeah I fully agree I think when you talk about what the packers did in the draft? Moving getting a guy getting heir apparent to Aaron. Rodgers and even these kind of comments. Right? If you believe the Aaron, Rodgers was your guy. You would have done something to help him win. Now you were thirteen and three in great position to do something and make a true impact Fukuda built on the success of last year. Instead you Kinda you kinda split and move off and decide, hey, we're worried more about the future than we are about right now winning. When you think about his wide receiving corps last year Adams was his guy, right? That was the GO-TO. They did a better job running the football. Jones. But ultimately, you had one real guy that he was going to. You could have helped him in a number of different ways. So it's not only the betrayal of drafting a quarterback for the future it you didn't give me anything to get better in and so if you're Aaron Rodgers and you're sitting here, you understand you you played the same role fifteen years ago. So you understand. What it really looks like here's the one thing I would say though about Aaron Rodgers and and about Lord, you've got to be friends to be really good. So they don't have to be friendly. All they have to do is be business associates come in be pro get yourself ready to play Aaron Rodgers has enough fried about himself. When he goes out, he knows he's the one being watched on Sunday nobody's going to watch and look lower right there watching Aaron Rodgers and he had enough pride about himself it's not going to be. Where he does an annual himself and go play good football, but it is going to be one of those things. Kind of burn your saddle is going to be frustrating for him to get through because his success goes to the floor right and so it becomes one of those situations but ultimately, air rogers not only played for Green Bay, but the next team because I honestly they're already shopping them just by drafting a guy where they did and and and that they should made that very clear when they did, Hey, errands our guy period that was not the situation. Distraction leading into training camp. They say show me don't tell me right. They certainly showed Aaron Rodgers what the future is there in Green Bay. The NFL and the NFL PA have agreed to set the opt out deadline for Thursday, at four o'clock eastern. Now, one major difference from Major League Baseball. This will be a very strict deadline. Players will not be able to opt back in or opt out after the deadline has passed twenty three of the thirty two teams have had at least one player opt out and we've seen several elite players among the opt-out Trite Cj Moseley, dont`a hightower gaming Williams just to name a few right. Now. Who've made that decision the NFL and the NFL PA were able to reach that agreement after the players. Union gain to final judgments to the language of the deal. I players will now have additional protection in the disciplinary process for those displaying high risk behavior away from the team's second, the players gain more favourable language when it comes to how the NFL, we'll spread out the shortfalls in revenue over the coming years. Here's bills quarterback Josh Allen on why he decided to opt in. My region I. Know I'm opting into plays. One I love this game too. I think it's a great opportunity to give this nation hope and allow them to see us go out there and do what we do because we know that Sunday's a very special day in the lives of a lot of people around the world lot of fans around the world. Certainly every player making their own decision I, love this video here. 'cause we don't really know what it looks like in these facilities. Well, this is how Jacksonville is running the show here now yesterday quarterback Garner Minhsiu when from the reserve covid nineteen lists two days after he was placed on it here he is. First Day of school. You know like having a outfit picked out and everything had to stay at home that sox missed out playing with all my friends. "Got the did they heard and said the same thing it will be very similar because of the way brady ducks and fell. Well fortunately, we have a lot more show left jeff where you can take a shot at ten, which is very simple around here I'll let's go from a forty three year old quarterback to a thirty eight year old steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger back at Heinz field throwing for the first time since his season ending elbow surgery last September. Here's. Big Ben had a say on what is looking back out on the field and throwing. Civically, going back of had a little bit of injury in that elbow for quite a few years but to something kind of dealt with never serious enough to do anything with at one point. One Jews you down the right side and I just felt a different pain different discomfort than I've ever fell and it was kind of shooting down my arm. I think the plan is still to kind of kind of pitch count. If you will through training camp, I worked really hard yesterday in terms of throws off fro- maybe try about half that amount today and then tomorrow just really back off again and just Kinda to see how it's GonNa feel. I'm not saying I've got ten years left in me but I I definitely feel like I've got some really good years left in me. So that was definitely a motivating factor was coming back showing that. I still have it in a tank. I still have a lot to give this team I still have a lot to give the fans. And I still WANNA. Win The parties and I say that with a wrong. He's the first quarterback not to say he's GonNa play until he's fifty years old. He's quite aware of his age here so Let's bring in our brook prior who covers the steelers for us and Brooke you're around this team all the time you participate in all these zoom calls with the players including that one with Ben Rothlisberger. So what's it been like in terms of the feeling feeling having been back out there and healthy now? You Know Diana there isn't a lot that's normal in the NFL right now but talking with offensive coordinator Randy fichtner last week he said normalcy for them is having been rothlisberger back in the huddle last season after that elbow injury in week two been spent most of the time on the sideline. But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. He said he got a different perspective of the offense this big picture perspective and the different look at how often run something big had really experienced since he was a junior in. High School and was playing wide receiver, and at the time is coach said, Hey, this is going to help you when you're the quarterback next year and he didn't quite understand that lesson than but he gets it now and speaking of being younger and younger. He said he's as light as he's been in thirteen or fourteen years, and while he may not have ten years left in the tank, he said that he does have some good years ahead of him and like you said, he wants to win Lombardi's multiple plural. Broke I didn't want to mention it. In, that interview it was obvious just in his face, you can see the. Drop some pounds air as he gets ready to get back out on the field after he dealt with that injury and week two against the Seattle seahawks and pretty much change. The entire season for the Pittsburgh steelers team Bro Prior. CHEF. Guy So since Big Ben started playing on the banks of Pittsburgh's three rivers in two thousand four. Would you just? Standing, right. Near he's been the crown jewel of the steelers quarterback. He's won over two-thirds of his two hundred sixteen career start. When he's been out of action, his replacements have taken on water right? So we saw these no other steelers quarterback has made ten starts since Rothlisburger was actually drafted. So Tim I want to start with you big Ben himself he mentioned more Lombardi trophies he's already won to. What does a healthy big ben mean for the steelers in this AFC championship race. I think they can be legitimate super bowl contender. If we're getting the best of Ben Rothlisberger I, think they can be that good and doesn't mean that the favorite to win their division because I would think that it would be the Baltimore Ravens still certainly, you would have to deal with the chiefs in the AFC. But with that being said, we have to remember that this was an eight nate football team last year with Mason Rudolph and duck hodges playing quarterback and not playing it very well, and so when you look at the situation, you think about what Kevin Colbert said. The steelers jam what he said at the combine, which was we we're expecting to get a better Ben Rothlisberger back maybe as good as he's ever been and you think about the type of year, he had in two thousand eighteen, his last full season as a starter before the elbow injury, it was the best year he's ever had. So look I I don't know if he's going to throw for over five thousand yards if he's going to throw for nearly forty touchdowns but I, do know this if he is healthy enough to play that team that went eight without him a year ago certainly is boys and make a lot of noise in the AFC. Tim I completely agree with you. You look at this football team. They're well coached like you said, they play to eight and eight with with sub poor really qb play him coming back. You even get him you know eighty eighty, five percent of what he was in two thousand eighteen. This team is GONNA compete. They know how to play tight game they know how to play go you know the kind? Of Black and blue style is going to be smashed not. They don't have to spread you out and go attack you with Juju and so as you're looking at this football team that could be excited about what they're. All right. Good offensive line. They're pushing through this thing they understand what's at stake I'm very excited to see if rothlisburger can get back and like you said that the the pitch count. To me is going to really be the key like how many days back to bat can he go? Right? If he has that there's a little soreness, I gotta take two or three days off. That's really what affects you during the season but if he can just go pair it down as as the week goes on you and I both know most quarterbacks do that anyway. Right they're gonNA take you. And fewer as you get closer to Sunday, the second guy was gonna come in and take some of those reps and with Kobe being what it is they may be doing that anyway just in case. So this is one of those years where they really could manage this stuff that's happening with his arm, and if he comes out produces on Sunday man, the sky's the limit for this steeler football team. I love this show man qb revenge towards seems like so many old quarterbacks coming out I got some proven. I love it and Big Ben being one of them I. Think when you look at the teams have the advantage, it's going to be the ones who have continuity veteran leadership at qb and head coach and Maxim maximize spell steelers. Again I don't think this team is. Going to win the division, I'm not saying that I, think like like a timoth saying, I think it's the Baltimore Ravens but look around at the AFC North Baker in the browns have new coach, rookie qb in Cincinnati and Joe Borough in a young head coach I. think that's helped sets the stage for Ben. Roethlisberger and the steelers a healthy Ben Roethlisberger and the. steelers to do some damage. Oh, certainly a and what a difference it is when he's on the field, just pointing to it, and if you look at this organization as a whole Pittsburgh's looking to avoid missing the playoffs in three consecutive seasons since they did. So back in one, thousand, nine, hundred, Ninety, eight, through two thousand. So it's been a long time when Ben is healthy. The great thing about facts they're proven. Crude oil contains impurities or their base oil made from natural gas is ninety nine point, five percent free of impurities, and the fact that pennzoil is the first synthetic motor oil made from natural gas not crude oil. UK says it has struck deal to save troubled airline Flybe
"The future of a UK airline flybe is in doubt amid emergency rescue talks with the government. The company hasn't posted a profit since twenty fourteen but with services to fifteen European countries and more domestic flights than any other UK airline. Many say it's operations operations are crucial for local economies in hard to reach cities the BBC is Simon. Second any company specific assistance would likely fall foul of EU rules on state aid the solution an industry-wide Carts airport passenger duty for internal UK flights that proposal will be discussed at meetings between the Treasury the Department for Transport Sport and the Department for business shelled later. That's become come vital to life thanks to its widespread use in the food and agricultural industries. Morocco leads the world in phosphate mining. This is therefore phosphate mine. Not only the largest mine in the world but one of the largest opencast opencast mines and this mine has forty three percent of global reserves of phosphate but the economics of most resources are never straightforward right forward and phosphates all no different. NFL Quarterback debuts
"Three quarterbacks Mason Rudolph Daniel Jones Luke Falk will be making their first career or starts on Sunday so let's start with the three quarterbacks making their first. NFL starts we're going to run through them and you guys can deliver the best recipe success and also what the biggest challenges Damian. Let's start with Daniel Jones giant six overall pick replacing Eli manning and there in Tampa. What's the the recipe for success thing for him. Is taking care of the football we saw in the pre season. One big bubbles was fumbles. You know the the number one job blue quarterback as to what we'll take the football we all know what he can do as far as moving into pocket outside the pocket pushing the ball downfield but if you're not taking the football team much chance of success so I think that's where it starts with Daniel Jones and biggest challenge. The box will face off the face against the bucks. I'm sorry Sir all right. Mason Rudolph Third Round Pick for the steelers last year replacing Big Ben and out to this team that San Francisco Rob. What do you think he a recipe for success the recipes to protect the quarterback. They have a great offensive line if you can give him some more time to look at his options. That's going to give him more success. So you know other teams. They might have an issue in the front and the the quarterbacks getting hit really quickly. You can't go through progression. I think the steelers others have good front and have a great running back so that'll help them takes them a load off of him. Apo Luke Falk the jets third starting quarterback in three weeks facing the Patriots Defense has been sensational and their inbox the recipe for success. Your Suzy's have been a prayer on Sunday morning prior to the game more seriously what I do think you'll see from Luke. Falk is what we saw on Monday night when he took over for Simeone in relief duty a lot of passing yardage that was accumulated after the catch not a ton of vertical presents. It's down the field. Obviously Levy on belly ten catches last week time. Montgomery also got involved won't be easy against the Patriots defense that has allowed the same number of touchdowns. This season is US combined Zip Zero Nada. They have been awesome so far for the Patriots on Defense Yeah and just to make it tougher. Is that all those teams are Owen to when they're all on the
Giants Name Daniel Jones the Starter, Sending Eli Manning to the Bench
"Re hitting the top story of the day Daniel Jones going to start this week for the New York giants against the Tampa Bay buccaneers Eli Manning officially benched looks like his career with China's over as the starting quarterback well again and we'll see what Daniel Jones happened. I mean he could get blown up and then he lies back in there. Yes that's true I I mean but we haven't heard from Pat Shurmur and we will tomorrow and and what we will hear as I'm sure he's the quarterback and we're moving forward with him and Eli will do his best to mentor him in any. I don't think Eli wants to be traded on like he wants to go anywhere. People are wondering if he is traded spot track tweeted out while unlikely if the giants do trade Eli Manning. He'll cost his new team six hundred seventy six thousand dollars as per week ten point one million dollars to the rest of the season. The giants have already paid him six point eight million the jets are going to get Sam darnold back before or the midseason point okay. The Jaguars are going to get nick foles back around the midseason point. Drew brees is coming back around the midseason point. The steelers are not getting big ben back but it makes sense for them to see who they have in Wehr young guy a guy that Ben didn't want to mentor cantor when he was drafted last year he was definitely rankled by the drafting of Mason Rudolph the of that. I don't believe there's any doubt and he didn't say a mentor him like Rudolph said it's not Ben's Job to mentor me and he used that on his radio show which has since since been shuttered that just to put it all out there that I'll just point to the book and just say you know that's yours since he doesn't want me to mentor him even thought it was funny and and it landed with a thud but they have to see what they have in Mason Rudolph and at Mason Rudolph. Let's say performs like Dak where it's amazing and he's terrific traffic and the team makes the playoffs and gets a playoff start then. We're going to have an interesting thing on her hands right here. Ben will come back and come back saying I am ready to show up and it'll be like far like when Aaron Rodgers got there like oh I don't plan will be ready to garage. Come back in shape. He'll probably say ten fifteen rounds and it'll be ready to go and put the steelers and a tough bind but that is a high class problem and the steelers are going to find out if that's a high class problem that they can have because at some point Ben will be done and Mason Rudolph. We'll be sitting there and for Mason Rudolph he'll be able to just basically say to them because they don't have a fifth year option on him because he wasn't a first round draft pick nick franchise tag me Pittsburgh or trade me and someone also pay me like Jimmy Garoppolo. This is a big opportunity for him and whose his first quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo so we lies not going anywhere no one's going to be wanting to hire Eli manning and the giants the best backup quarterback and perfect mentor for for Daniel Jones perfect. Why would they trade him? who had taken are just told every? I just gave you the possibilities. Nobody needs him but you're you're. You're not like it's not like there's a Minnesota Vikings situation where they had to pull the trigger for Sam Bradford because they had a super bowl ready team that went poof because teddy bridgewater blew his knee up but if you take away his name. Ui Manning and you look on paper you're trying to acquire a guy is three and nineteen eighteen again his last starts and seven years old and I'll say this again do we have shown O'Hara's tweet and obviously he's biased. He won a super bowl with Eli. Put it up Shara so incredibly disappointed and frustrated with the giants right now. Defense gives up sixty three points in two games wide receiver group is depleted but let's change your. QB question marks Kurt said the same thing he sees the film you lie is not making poor decisions. He's making the right decisions. The only decisions decisions he has in front of him and he's being held to account now you can say that it's been a long time coming but it's not the only answer and Daniel Daniel Jones and again credit gettleman. He's putting it out there right now he could have sat there and say I take the rest of the year because the ownership is ready for you. Take the rest of the year and then I'll get more. I'll get more top five picks for Daniel Jones but he didn't do it. What if Daniel Jones comes out as three hundred yards and beats the bucks this week while then we're we're not talking about any more we
Steelers' Roethlisberger done for season with elbow injury
"To the league's best quarterbacks are dealing with injuries and one although a season ending injury Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is done after an elbow injury will undergo surgery Mason Rudolph as his replacement he threw four hundred twelve yards Sunday after ruffles for got hurt Big Ben has been Pittsburgh starter since you took over as a rookie in two
NFL Week 2 Monday Night Football
"I thought Mason Rudolph all good it from what I saw just looking at the numbers this morning in the first half half with primarily big Ben I know he departed at about the two or three minute mark of the second quarter or with a two or three two or three minutes remaining in the second quarter rather but you look at the first first half steelers four point three yards per play forty two percent success rate with Big Ben in the second half five point nine yards per play fifty two percent success rate with Mason Rudolph off. He looked pretty capable. There's a reason they moved dobbs so I think you know things. Look a little better for the steelers offensively. The problem album is Mike. Tomlin's defense fell apart in the second half gave up eight point eight yards per play in the second half once. Big Ben goes out right. It's on you Mike Tomlin. It's on your defense inst- to step up and shoulder that increased load instead they regressed right in the eight point eight yards per place in the second half doesn't include the the monstrous pass interference appearance. Call there on edmunds for additional thirty eight yards so steelers. This is kind of the fear we had. We kind of just assumed roomed. It said Hey lady on bell didn't play all of last year no Biggie they seem to make up for that but all of the losses on offense Mike check the offensive line coach. Now you're dealing with James Caan as well left with a knee injury. We'll talk to Dr Trial about that. One see what he says now. You're on the road traveling across the country face San Francisco. It's going to be interesting to see. It sounds like you'll be Mason Rudolph under center yeah very very interesting to see how some of these things kind of play themselves goes out and you always wonder how these teams rebound with some key faces that may or may not be there and of course the steelers staring down the barrel of that Owen to start. We'll see if they can get things corrected as you alluded to their trip on the road to San Francisco but as is the right of oddsmakers and better like you typically see overreactions in week two by the time you get to week three or starting to get a better sense of who some of these teams are and identify how these numbers need to be set figuring out for some of those situational edges so when we look at the look ahead lines for next week pay not a ton of overreaction in the market by any stretch you do have the packers on a look ahead number go for six and a half point favorite now to more than a touchdown touchdown chalk against the Denver Broncos who have to wipe themselves up off the deck knowing they let a glorious opportunity against Chicago bears. Get away from spot on Denver had their heart's ripped out. There obviously not going to have their early season altitude advantage here like they had a week ago. There's whispers within the locker room not all the players. Here's Love Vic Fangio's old school coaching style. If you start doing oh or you win a game like that and you're one and one suddenly players let that slide by but when you're in two you now you're an eight point underdog on the road. Let's see if they can overcome that once. Leflore script were off though for Green Bay and the Vikings woke up the packers offense was back to sucking again and you look into doubt just on the day four point nine yards per play for for the green offense the final three quarters the packers offense averaged three point two yards per play a forty percent success rate and Rogers had zero explosive passes fastest final three quarters so still some things to figure out offensively. They're for Green Bay came out with their hair on fire much much Dr Chagrin but that was kind of after the first quarter the the pace and the output we we kind of handicapped and projected there for the Green Green Bay offense yeah and they even gave were gifted at touchdown for the Minnesota Vikings when they turn the ball over to take that fourteen nothing lead out to twenty one but we're not gonNA cry over spilled. Milk will continue to look get some of the numbers for next week to massive point spreads. That'll remind you a lot more of college football than they will the national football league. I couldn't even tell you in an historical context when you're GONNA see two favorites favorites of this big magnitude pain look ahead number for the patriots thirteen points. Now I know Sam Darnold of course was factored into this look ahead number with him. Being out regardless of how the jets perform tonight against the Cleveland browns you're looking at the pats a seventeen and a half point favorite yes differing numbers on the look ahead. One shop had the look at as low as ten. They actually produced that before the Sam Darnold News obviously so you have patriots than Bennett. They've outscored their opponents now. Seventy seventy six to three you know Antonio Brown is a go. It looks like a real factor and it's not just Sam Darnold. That's going to be down again right. There's other guys that have some injury question question marks for the jets interesting see where this number goes right. I think there's going to be a lot of movement. Obviously it's not open everywhere right now but you know trevor sending in the jets pull off off an upset tonight or if they get blown out this number is going to head in different directions right. I think if the jets get blown out you're probably looking at closer to twenty if they somehow pull off the upset victory probably turning back down towards two touchdowns.

Large parts of the U.S. could see tornadoes, hail, high winds this weekend
"Yeah, we're gonna have a widespread severe out break here later this Friday afternoon through Friday night in the Saturday. Let's start with the Friday afternoon, Friday night time period Sioux Falls, South Dakota grand island. Nebraska, those are the areas of southwestern parts of Minnesota will be in the very widespread area of large hail tornado flooding downpour and damaging wind potential. Little more isolated as you get a little farther south through central Kansas into Oklahoma, panhandle of Texas. But in Lubbock and down into the big men around the, the coastal. I'm sorry. The Big Ben to the Rio Grande. Those are areas that will be widespread also today, and then we shift that farther to the east on Saturday and Saturday night and it's lined up from eastern Iowa down through the architects, and into Austin and San Antonio large hail, damaging winds and possibility of tornadoes. So that's the big ticket item that we're looking at this weekend. A big pattern change with the cooler and of normally wet weather for early next week out west, meanwhile temperature surge in the east, Michael we're going to go from shivering sweating in the northeast people were in the forties at the start of the week while they're going to be soaring into the seventies and eighties at times this weekend and early next week quite a change
Ben Roethlisberger is 'clearly a part of the problem'
"Next. Next team president art Rooney. The second said Wednesday that talks have started between the Steelers and Ben Rothlisberger on a contract extension. Big Ben who turns thirty seven in March has one year remaining on his current deal. And let's keep in mind. There's been a lot of drama and Pittsburgh fellas and Tonio Brown apparently wants out lay beyond bells that out the entire season. Not to mention that Big Ben has been going back and forth on retirement these past couple of seasons. Tedy Bruschi still here with us joining us from the Pro Bowl and Orlando I teddy. There you are. We got you got you and all your friends in the background is big and more of a problem or a solution because this franchise feels like a mess right now. Because both he's he's definitely a part of the problem because they no other men in which he's handled things. I mean, again, you know, you you've got numerous players. You've got numerous NFL aficionados that have religiously called out Big Ben for saying things in throwing people under the bubble in the fashion of the quarterbacks. Don't this is not me talking. This is basically reporting what they've said as max is done as many others. If you watch Big Ben you talking about juju Smith Schuster. We should have thrown the ball of him every time you say something like that. You've got to know you've been around Antonio Brown long enough to know, how those kind of things would affect him along with various other things in other positions that he has taken that. We don't have time to get into in the end when it comes down to is that has made him a part of the problem because Big Ben is live by different set of rules. He's a bit flagrant with it. And I don't give a. AM who you are anytime you receive preferential treatment that you are you are playing by different set of rules as everybody else you are going to rub people the wrong way, especially when you consider the individual who abuses, the privilege. That's the bottom line. Having said all of that. When you look at Big, Ben he's also a part of the solution because nobody's perfect everybody makes mistakes. And if you're willing to man up in knowledge that you could have done better in certain respects. I think that would go a long way, I think the thing that the Tonio Browns of the world and others that are incredibly frustrating is not that big been mixed the mistakes, they made is that he doesn't necessarily he isn't necessarily deemed as an individual that learns from apologized showed the pope level of contrition and move forward without making sure not to repeat those mistakes again throughout the years. You've seen a pattern of behavior that has been consistent with him in that he has gotten away with it. If you listened to those NFL players Antonio Brown is one of those NFL player. Here's somebody that has said that. And as a result, you a big band you want to alleviate this situation you speak up. You recognize us where you're at fault. And I think if he did that that would go along way. So he's both a problem and a problem solver in all of this because he's right in the middle of everything as the stock quarterback of the team who obviously has is outspoken, Saddam. Well, we agree and disagree because I think he is part of the problem the solution. But for very different reasons part of the problem because Ben Rothlisberger is like a rich man's Eli manning. He is too good for your team. Just to stink almost no matter. What's going on? Right. You're good. A win some games. Maybe make the usually make the playoffs. So how do you get his successor? There's no succession, I just talked about how you know, unless you're Bill Belichick level. And it's not so easy to find a quarterback when you're not drafting up high. You know, it's more of a crap shoot. They don't have the person there that they feel can take the reins of the team if they're truly grooming. It doesn't seem to me on the other end. Therefore at the moment. He reads a lot of power because when you don't have that. But you do have a talented team. And you have a quarterback who's shown he can still play at a very high level, and we're in an era. That's right teddy in an era where older quarterbacks are clearly protected in ways. They've never been you look the level. Tom Brady is still playing at forty one. Drew Brees at forty then rothlisburger at thirty seven that that they realize, oh, wait a minute as beat up as he's been as much as he talked about retirement. He's still maybe has some years of football left in him. We don't have as backup. So he wields probably too much influence and he seems to at times publicly throw players under teammates under the bus. He's a problem because he's too good to get that next quarterback with the draft pick. He's your solution to the extent that you're good because he's a really good quarterback. And if you ain't got that, you ain't got anything. I'm with both you here because Big Ben has been a problem, and he can be a part of the solution. But this is what's happening here as you're talking about max. The quarterbacks in this league getting older and older and still being able to play past forty. What's happening is a generational gap. A generational gap between the quarterback and all of the younger skilled players and all of the younger players on defense that are ended up being a part of this team and the ability to relate. So they're almost these kids are coming in plan. I mean rothlisburger will have players coming in make sure that have had his poster on the wall or something like that that group as fans, and so how does that quarterback that aging quarterback you mentioned breeze Brady and rothlisburger? How was he able to relate to them and make them feel like still an equal? And as one of his teammates, this is where Ben Rothlisberger has failed has he failed. Also and other aspects where Stephen as talking about what he's calling out teammates where he's got no business when he should have when he's the one making bad plays. Also. Yes, I agree with that. But he needs to learn to start to relate to these younger generation of players because he will continue to get older, and that gap is. Real and you'll see players life Brees. How he still it seems like medicine Brady and breathes? They're old. Okay. How do they still have these close bonds with these young players that come into their teams and their teammates talking about them like they're best? How does that happen? There's something. Character wise that breeze and Brady has right now that Rothlisberger is lacking. I need your help with something here. Because here's what you lost. You talked about him relating to the other players, and I don't disagree with that teddy. The problem is it eight the younger players complaining about him and Tonio Brown is thirty years old. He's been big big Big Ben Rothlisberger his teammate for almost the past decade. And so this is I'm not saying that, you know, the he's thirty seven thirty thirty seven like Big Ben is, but he ain't twenty eight twenty one like did you Smith Schuster? The man is thirty the last six seasons. He's had a minimum of one hundred one receptors a minimum of twelve hundred and eighty seven. Yard. He's produced. Poor Big Ben he's been a primary target for Big, Ben. And yet that's where the problem seems to lie at this particular moment in time. So how do you explain that? And I'll put it up put it simply then because I agree with you there. It's a feeling that I've had with the quarterback that I played with and a lot of the saints and a lot of these older players on these teams that are mentioning they have the overwhelming thought in their mind that my quarterbacks got my back. No matter what that's what I think's not there in Pittsburgh. It seemed like it seems like if something happens the quarterback isn't there to either bail you out off the field the Bill you out on? That's what it is. I don't know if they feel the same way some of these saints and other players that this quarterback. He's got my
Raiders craft a day to remember in a season to forget
"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Raiders crafted data remember in a season to forget by an Killian, call it. The revenge of the Coliseum every raiders game in Oakland. Feels like a week these days one final farewell to the memories in the moments that have filled Oakland Raiders history with most of the recent ones being largely forgettable for much of Sunday. It looked like game thirteen of the woeful twenty eighteen season was going to be just another whole home losing affair until the Coliseum rose up and said it shall not be. So that this was raiders versus Steelers, dammit for probably the very last time in Oakland, and it was going to be memorable. So after the raiders took the lead with twenty one seconds to play on a touchdown pass from Derek Carr, Derek carrier. And after the Steelers got into position to tie the game. Thanks to a forty three yard, hook and lateral. The old building. And it seeping innards went to work. Sunday's game took place in a chilling December ground fog that cast the Coliseum in gloom slicked the cracked concrete and suck moisture to the surface of the field. It was slippery out there Oakland running back. Jalen, Richard said, I was slipping it's always slippery. Here said tight end Jared cook, Pittsburgh kicker Chris Boswell trotted onto the field for the game tying field goal. Try planted his left leg and as he swung back. His right to kick his plant leg gave out from under him leaving dark Divet in the grass and the raiders filled with joy the raiders had won. They beat their historic rival, Pittsburgh twenty four twenty one for just their second win at home this year and third overall in the midst of the uproarious celebration on the field head coach Jon Gruden ran down to the black hole to high five the fans, it was the type of image that all the citizens of raider nation had in there. Minds when they got the news in January the Gruden was returning to Oakland. But there's been precious little to celebrate. I went to see my old friends all grownup Gruden said we're to in ten actually three in ten after the win. I wanted to thank them. It was an awesome seen today. I appreciate their support. They've been with us. No matter what it wasn't awesome seen black and silver mixed with black and gold. There might never have been so many opposing fans in the Coliseum for raiders game. Every play resulted in a roar from about half the crowd. I was surprised raiders receiver. Seth Roberts said I didn't know they traveled like that. Oh, they do the forty Niners can vouch for that. The Pittsburgh fans whose EM was dampened when quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went out with a rib injury and the offense stalled he came back in the game to orchestrate one. Go ahead. Touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter. And then got the team into field goal position with. That remarkable lateral play. But then the Coliseum rose up and did its work and rothlisburger exited without having one in Oakland leaving with an Owen four record. So Big Ben what were the field conditions like out there? Terrible. He said, but we knew that coming in. I shouldn't say terrible. I'm sorry. That's the wrong word the conditions weren't ideal. But our offensive coordinator Randy Fitch ner had addressed it all week and preached it every day to the offense. He said to make sure you have the right shoes. You saw how many times guys slipped out there? I think they might have slipped even more than we did Boswell said he's been using the same cleats since he'd been in Pittsburgh with seems a little crazy given the different conditions. Every NFL field offers, you can't blame anything Boswell said. It's his bad as it is for me as it is for anyone else. The kicker slippage is not going to go down in history with the immaculate reception or other great. Moments in the history of the two teams, but it gave fans a fun outcome in a woeful season. And the woes have continued the raiders are in position for the number three draft choice who will be making the decision. There was a story Sunday morning that general manager Reggie McKenzie would be departing the team after the season all the principles MacKenzie Gruden and owner Mark Davis, no commented on the story, which wasn't exactly groundbreaking. The assumption has been from the moment Gruden arrived and only reinforced as the season has unschooled that McKenzie would be on his way out sooner or later the players who MacKenzie drafted and that Gruden traded also were in the New Sunday receiver Amari Cooper had three touchdowns for Dallas including the game winner in overtime and two hundred seventeen yards on ten catches. The Cowboys are ready to put him in their ring of honor right now and Khalil Mack helped the bears beat the Rams on Sunday night football. A spot the Steelers raiders matchup got flexed out of partially because of max increased starpower. Meanwhile, the raiders sit tied for the worst record in the league with one game left in Oakland this season and ten thousand question marks about their status next season. The building is falling down around them on Sunday night, a janitor discovered to dead mice in the soda machine. In the press box, the one that dozens of people had been using to pour their drinks all day truth what a place, but on Sunday, it gave raiders fans at least one more memorable moment. A win courtesy of the dank damp Coliseum.
