"Near normal park so fans could take these newfangled automobiles drive to the game and he also tried to get as best he could Coverage in the media and O'Brien also would be kind of like a salesman he would say. The cardinals played down. In Moline and overnight rock island. He would go there the week before and try and drum business from the local fans and of course the writing that time was extraordinary. We'd hear about the giants Ryan Chicago cardinals coming to lean with several all Americans on the team and we're a little moline doesn't have a chance. But they would build up these versions Asians and stories of the all Americans when it came to Chicago. The cardinals just seemed draw. What normal park on the south? They didn't have a large seating capacity even when they moved to Comiskey Park. They didn't have much luck in filling that place Again when he helps a lot. The cardinals won the championship in nineteen twenty five but then unfortunately was the same time. Red Grange game in the League and so the bears were off filling stadiums around the country and the poor cardinals are trying to get a couple of thousand housing to watch them play Comiskey Park so that was kind of interesting about how the cardinals did try and survive in the thirties. This was after. O'Brien sold sold the team. They actually played their games from nineteen thirty one to nineteen thirty nine at Wrigley Field which left the cardinals at kind of the bottom of the ladder in terms of you've of preferred game days the cubs of course if they had a good season might be playing late into October The bears would have their first choice. Waste because that was their home field and so then the cardinals are Wrigley. Field would have. Maybe they're opening home game in November. I think Vince Bananas A great I because all the guards for the cardinals one said the team tried to move to Wrigley Field where they had all the rich people and we had the when he called the have nuts on the sell all side probably not fair for us to describe it that way but it seemed to be true because the fans of the cardinals would not go north to watch the cardinals plane Wrigley Field. Of course the bears wanted fans wanted nothing to do a sing another team playing and Wrigley Field so that did not last and the cardinals moved back for nineteen forty into Comiskey Park. So lots to unpack there so on that one. That was the Bidwell family when they bought the team in thirty three that they decided that they were gonna try to kind of go upmarket if you will and find out where the where where the money was but that's odd because the city of such a large geography. Hindsight is twenty twenty now right but you know to be the third tenant pennant in you know in arguably a baseball park right. The number two football team let alone not have with another stadium just on the south side I just basically sitting waiting for a winter. Tenant sure yeah and they Just never worked for him but I I guess it was an idea actually. They started a year before. Did well got involved and He kept up with it but the owner. Dr David Jones. He was the city physician for the city of Komo. A Chicago promise that he would bring a winning team to the sell side and made a lot of changes. One of the biggest was bringing. Ernie Nevers I the hall of Famer in to play for the cardinals later coach for the cardinals. He had the first out of town training. Camp and cold water Michigan really pumped up the the team but When attendance was still not very strong He was the one who had the first season up in Wrigley Field. I'm not sure if they signed signed a contract for several years but bidwill certainly had the opportunity to move the team back but but kept them up north and maybe it was because he had a fondness for the beers. There's kind of working for health at one time being a partner with hell listen they pro basketball team to Chicago Bruins Of course this was going on before and during his time as owner of the cardinals but who knows The attendance wise is certainly didn't work all right so before we move onto the ownership changes and and you mentioned that it's important that we go over sort of how it got to the big welfare because it didn't go directly to them as you just mentioned in one thousand nine hundred. Eighty five is an asterisk for sure in NFL. Football history. History right and and I believe I've mistaken the cardinals. I guess almost retroactively claim nineteen twenty. Five is there I ever. Nfl Championship hip. But it wasn't that simple nor maybe even at the time acknowledged as such as a championship team was it yes twenty five was preps the the if not today. It's still is one of the most controversial seasons that was ever played in the NFL and nineteen twenty four. There was a a similar. I'm were thing where a couple of teams claim the title and the owners and their minutes which are available to pro football hall of fame. Put Down certain rules and the rules claim claim that you could schedule any number of games you want it to until a certain day. Let's just say December first December seven. And if you wanted I want to you can keep playing games The cardinals in nineteen twenty five were neck and neck with the Pottsville maroons from Pennsylvania and ahead. What a lot of the newspapers called the championship? Game between the two teams at the end the season Pottsville won that game so they edged ahead of the cardinals and the standings and this is the same time. Now that we're hearing rumblings about Red Green joining the bears and coming to the the NFL So some trains are saying perhaps the cardinals or the maroons. We're trying to finagle a game with red grange and host them and and get the full crowd Some correspondence that indicates that but basically crystal Brian the owner of the cardinals. He really wanted to win the championship. So which which was legal. He scheduled to more games in nineteen twenty five before the deadline was against the a ham and team and one was against the Milwaukee he badgers he won both games. So that's the first part of the story that adds the cardinals ahead of Pottsville by Gamer. So the same time Pottsville. I still wanted to play Much all stars from Notre Dame up in the Philadelphia area. And here's a lot. It gets a little more controversial. Is that the league supposedly told possible. They could not play in Philadelphia because of territorial rights. They wanted to play the game. Anyway and We're then summarily. This is because they were trying to make some the the early part of the NFL. This was also part of sort of revenue generation. Right there was an exhibition. Asa Asa in and around the right accorded regular season right so they would have been okay to play this game anywhere else but they decided to play where they were told not I too. So that's the controversy that that Followers the pottsville claim that they should have won the championship. They shouldn't have been kicked out of the League and that the cardinals all scheduled these two games illegally but it was legal ethical. I'm not so sure But the cardinals then because apostles kicked out were Lee said was awarded the championship to the cardinals. They never claimed it. There was no trophy at the time. And then the story got even a little crazier because when they put the cardinals played the team from Milwaukee Milwaukee came to town. They didn't have enough players so one of the cardinals players. Here's phone some additional professionals who turned out to before high school kids from Englewood High School. So the cardinals then were Brought to the carpet Chris. O'Brien Brian was fined and again what was said at that time. with the cardinals have to give up the championship. They never they never were the excuse that the championship never was taken away from the cardinals so there's still recognize the twenty five champions even though maybe outwardly. They never accepted that until later on when the the bidwill family became involved. So if you're from Pottsville you probably have a good claim that something must have been a mess if your car to stand you. Probably the and rightly so say we. We just schedule another couple of games. Either way it's very controversy on. It's funny even to this day. Still you bring that up among people who do research and there's a a good argument going on as to who is actually nineteen twenty five champion the personal. Brian was certainly looking forward to winning the championship and perhaps scheduling a game or two with the Chicago bears against well. Okay so I guess it's important right because you mentioned in hinted at that. The team was the O'Brien sold the team to to Dr David Jones in Nineteen Twenty nine very interesting year on a writ large basis in this country and frankly the globe then by thirty two was then purchased by a gentleman by the name of Charles. Charles Bidwell will probably want to get into because the bidwell family from from this point on obviously becomes synonymous with the cardinals franchise for the rest of its of its life instill but I. It's interesting that AH AH based on what I've read and you can correct me if I'm wrong. It was only after bidwell became owner of the team that this sort of nineteen twenty five asterisks championship became an issue and were a pursuit of his. To somehow at least lay claim to as their history he went off. Yes and and I think that's accurate The history of it is a little fuzzy as to when and if and why. The cardinals claimed the championship. unshipped that the league basically gave to them and early nineteen twenty six. I shouldn't say gave but recognize the cardinals because they had the better record under the rules at the time and of course today we can't go back and change that type of history or this. We can question the decisions but we can't go back and change it but it does seem around that time that you would see the cardinals claiming that they were champions in nineteen twenty five and some of the programs and other material that went out came and.

"Sodano show anticommunist ski alan sleep in for george. Thanks again to l z granderson for hanging out the last hour my god elsie that story about the t._h._c. bath bomb is yes. I didn't even know that existed noted. I've seen bath bombs before just like they. They basically weekly turn the the bath water different colors. You know a lot of myrrh scented like you know my daughter. She's eight. She sometimes takes baths with bath bombs. Ed make it clear not see bath bombs just like regular bath by our house us and i had no idea that existed but i guess now that t._h._c. and cannabis has has become such a business you should you should at least expect that pretty much pretty much anything could be turned into a cannabis device or uh-huh mechanism for delivering t._h._c. I got a magic question for you. Sure so magic to me. Was everything that that's why i started watching sports to begin with. I watched an unfortunate. I never saw magic when a championship by the time i started watching magic eighty eight eighty nine right around there. Maybe even a little bit later than that. So magic was my idol and getting an opportunity to you know watch him and that's crazy to think sixty years old today obviously just kind of dawned on me but you saw it start seeing all these. He's highlights on twitter. <hes> who was your is there an athlete that stood out to you i mean literally i got into sports because of magic johnson just in in general <hes> the joy away of watching him play and be in that floor general <hes> but what who who has for me growing up in saint louis it was members of the baseball and then football all cardinals <hes> you know the the arizona cardinals were once the saint louis cardinals and my god they were a just horribly run franchise like they they were in their heyday in saint louis like in the late seventies early to mid eighties. They were every bit as badly run as donald sterling clippers like the absolute lowest cleveland brown can't get worse than that. Oh no no the the bidwell family bill bidwell when it was just him running that thing could put any bad owner to shame but my idols were members of like eighty two world series championship team like ozzie smith and willie mcgee george hendrick or on the saint louis football cardinals guys like neil lomax j._t. Smith or great great wide receiver vice ibrahima their pro bowl. <hes> return her her <hes> e._j. Junior i mean these. These are names aren't gonna mean anything to a lot of the people listening right now but they were awesome but it's a trip. 'cause you know like i mentioned in magic at sixty years old that that's kind of crazy and i remember and i think most laker fans do remember when when magic announce he was going to retire fire you. It's one of those you know listen. I'm not of course. It's a sports moment. It's different than any other. Moment is symbolic moments in this country's history in everything else from a sports perspective. I knew where i was. I knew what i was doing. <hes> it's it's it's surprising i was watching <hes> think it was yesterday yesterday magic in the all star game. They're shown him score against isaiah thomas those last few possessions it takes you back to that moment. Look man i. I actually don't think it's an exaggeration to put it. <unk> azam moment matt magic announcing his diagnosis as something beyond sports. I mean because they're you know obviously there was the element of being h._i._v. Positive and what that meant meant in this country at that moment you know with the the stigma frankly <hes> that was associated with h._i._v. and aids that for me has always felt elt like you know a everyone remembers where they were when they heard j._f._k. Was shot sure like i remember exactly where i was on. I was on u._s._c.'s seized campus. <hes> was my sophomore year. "Dared, orifice, great to see it's been a while, Michael. It is great to see you. I haven't we haven't broken bread and awhile or caught up. So. Four two it also. Well, let's start. Let's talk about when when you were kidnapped from canton, the home and a hall of fame. Football is all they do what kind of football player where you at the early stage. And when did, you know, okay? You know, I've got a chance to be special here. At least have a chance to go to college. Well, I was bigger than everybody else. I was I was one of those. I was always the largest kid my class and always the biggest guy on on on my team. But I was not. I didn't get a letter when I was a sophomore in high school. I got a letter my junior and senior year, I was all county that kind of stuff, but I wasn't AllState. When I was a senior in high school. I wasn't. I I was hardly what you would call a blue chip recruit. So you were Jim Parker at it. I was not Jim Parker of Ohio State. Didn't offer me a scholarship. Michigan state. Didn't offer me a scholarship. I only had two big ten offers one was from Indiana. John pot was coach over in Indiana. And the other offer I had came in very late. And it was from the university of Michigan bump Elliott was there at bump Elliott was the co-chair, but the coach who recruited me was the defensive backfield. Coach Don James who ended up being the coach at Washington, and one of the better college coaches ever, he's from massillon Ohio, which is right next door to canton, and he played high school football and grew up with my high school coach. So the that connect, and that's where the connection came from. And I have always believed that somebody in their recruiting class backed out because they didn't offer me to like February of my senior year. And I took a trip up there. I loved it, and I signed so the state of Ohio didn't seal the border to keep you in the state of the tar. No, they. And you know, people always got mad at me. There's always a stigma in Ohio if you're born and raised there and you go to Michigan. They're always mad at you. And I had to get out of jail free card would he would he didn't offer me a scholarship and. I met what he's a couple of times later on what I was playing for the cardinals. And he was very gracious about it. He said, I blew it. It was my mistake. Yeah. Well, you know, he's he's not going to get everybody. So would that sit you go to Michigan where you're good student back? Then I mean, where you a guy that was able to adapt. Well, yeah, I I had apt to college life. I it wasn't until my freshman year at Michigan that I would say that was the first time that I really dawned on me that maybe I could be a good college player back then freshmen weren't eligible to play varsity football that didn't happen until a couple of years later. And so the way my life turned was that both of our defensive tackles were returning and one of the offensive tackles graduated so they let me an offensive tackle. Now playing tackle you had a few injuries along the way as well. And that may have slowed down the progress a little bit. I only I started every game in college. I I had a knee injury. My junior year. I got hurt in house steak. I got hurt on the first play the game went out to block a linebacker, and I planted my leg and cut and tore my MC L. This is pre astroturf. This was on the grass field at at Columbus. Because you remember as you well know astroturf, then was very primitive where we had. We that's what we had an Ann Arbor. We had something was actually worse than astroturf was called tartan turf. Oh, yeah. I remember that three made it go baby. Was that stuff like planning on steel wool ass is like playing on concrete before they smooth it over? Well, that's Bush stadium. Bush stadium. I've always said is like playing on concrete with a piece of indoor outdoor carpeting rolled over the top of it. Brutal. Tom played. Yeah. I know I started every game. I started every game at Michigan and. Probably my after my sophomore year where I really thought. Well, I got maybe I can make something of myself. So before the NFL was like this mega event as far as the draft is concerned on TV. How did you find out that you were drafted be the team you playing for you going to be playing for and what did you know about Saint Louis as a whole? Well, the only thing I knew about Saint Louis was a whole I'll start with that is I grew up Cleveland Browns fan and and the Browns used to play the cardinals all the time and the cardinals always gave my brownies a tough go that the cardinals had to sought off little cornerback. Fisher, Pat Fisher. Yeah. And he used to go up against Gary Collins, the wide receiver for the Browns and I used to get so mad. I'm going how could he get covered by that little fart? And so that was basically the extent of my knowledge about the cardinals. But you brought up the draft. Yes. It was a little different little those are the phone call telegram acting rumor the draft was at the end of January. So the draft was really early compared to how it is now. Yes. And it was strictly a phone call. I thought it was going to get drafted in the first round. So I was upset I left I went for a walk and while I was gone. I think George Boone called judge. Oh, I won't call the great George George Bush, George Boone called who was the director of player personnel. I guess for the cardinals back then. So I got drafted by team that didn't even have a coach should have been a free cursor char-. Charlie wonder they fired Charlie winner and they had not yet hired Bob hallway. So I got drafted by a team that didn't have a coach the red flags should have gone off. I should've realized right. Then that this was going to be an unconventional trip will Bob hallway your defense coordinator with the Vikings and they brought him in. And he was apparently a very good defensive coach. But apparently is people skills didn't follow his defensive ability. Wow. I don't know what I could say to. That's that's a very good description was me. Nice, bob. Bob was a good guy. But he he he tried to be bud grant, you know, instead of being himself. He he tried to emulate bud grant, and the way bud ran the system and in Minnesota, and it just it just didn't work. He was man. He was hard on us. I thought plan for both sham Becker was tough until you ran into Bob hallway. He wouldn't let us he wouldn't us have a drink during practice. I mean, just crazy stuff. You talk about guys who come from one place. The he comes from a place ahead. Bob Lert some Carl Eller Allen page Gary Larson, that's pretty good front four. He didn't have anything like that. And he didn't have Fran tarkenton and he didn't have a lot of good players the Vikings had. So then you find out whether you can really coach enough. Well, yes. You know, he certainly didn't inherit the defense and the ad in Minnesota. We have offensive talent. I'm Jim Hart was here. Jackie Smith was MacArthur lane was here and number thirty six Ernie McMillan. We had we had we had some talent here any truth to that rumor that the year MacArthur lane rush for nine hundred and thirty six yards. He would have had a bonus Hetty got two thousand yards. And for some reason he didn't get a chance to play with that was I think that was the year before I got here. So I I didn't see that firsthand. I know that the relationship between MAC and and the Bidwell family was strained. We'll be nice here. At times. It was very strange and MacArthur pretty much facilitated his trade degreen bay when. Towards the end of the season. Bill Bidwill walk through the locker room and MacArthur unleashed, a a real string of obscenities, and that's one way to guarantee it. Starting next year. Yeah, they're dear door FAS. I guess thicker, our covered back with more..

"Okay. We're not playing we're not even going to discuss a lease with the city of Oakland for twenty thousand nine. So are they going to play? That's the that's the big question. Now, they have looked at a number of different options. There was some discussion of going to San Francisco to play in the San Francisco Giants ballpark city leaders were initially. Yeah. Were by the way, the giants ballpark is not city owned. It is a privately financed ballpark. But the city fathers still say we don't want to upset the people in government in Oakland. So they're not going to Sanford out there. They had talked about going to San Diego for year. San Diego's a little lukewarm to that. They're going to Tucson, how'd that happen, potentially essentially? Well, one of the other options was to go to Glendale, Al Qaeda at state farm stadium. Really and. I don't think that's ever really gotten a lot of traction. But the interesting part of the story is it released a Tucson an attorney. And I hope I'm pronouncing this attorney's name correctly, Ali Farhang contacted the raiders and told them why don't you come here and play at Arizona stadium. The home stadium for the university of Arizona football team. And he claims that he before he went to the raiders he had the approval of the university. And as the term was Arizona Cardinals ownership now. Here's what's interesting to me about this. The cardinals not only play in a state of the art facilities stadium. They also own the company that operates the concessions, okay? If if the raiders were to go there and play ten games the cardinals, obviously derive revenue from concession sales. Can addition to other parking I'm certain they'd want a would make money if they were going to go to the actually why would why would they even approve a plan if they're gonna come to Zona? Why aren't they coming to Glendale? I can only imagine what the scheduling would have to be for that wouldn't that be difficult to get like schedule. There is an example the jets and giants share a stadium. What other proposal for the raiders to have them go to Santa Clara and play in the forty Niners stadium. But the late owner the raiders Al Davis told his son Mark, I don't ever wanna find here that you've you've signed to play in that stadium. So you've got Elliott far hang who is an attorney down the Tucson. He's got a bit of a history bringing some sports teams down to Tucson. And he claims again that he contacted the governor. Office. The Bidwell family who owns the cardinals after getting their support. He made a phone call and ask to speak to the raiders president here is that attorney from Tucson talking. Well, here's a little bit more from the report hang called up raiders president Martha Dane, he says the Dane listen to his pitch for the team using Arizona's stadium for the two thousand nineteen season. A temporary raider nation Farhang says there really is nothing to lose. But a whole lot to gain for Tucson. So what does take Tucson stand to game when you have the raiders in southern Arizona and with young fans people coming up from Mexico. New Mexico, southern California. You're absolutely going to build the fan base for raider nation. I mean, I'm confident of that. So it's a win win. It's a win for our city. It's a win for the raiders. Okay. Let's call us betas bay. Do you really think that the raiders are going to come to Aaron Zona and play next season? My guess is. No. And the president of the raiders apparently told Ali Farhang that the chances of it are remote. But it's something worth considering. I would think no option is about option kinda this point. They even talked about moving to London for twenty nineteen and their coach Jon Gruden said. No, he's apparently he's not crazy about flying long. Distances said, I can't do a home in London. How could you expect other teams on the raiders schedule to fly to like, I agree with you? It would be a logistical nightmare. Now. Tucson to me would be the challenges would be this gentleman is right? Most of the people buying tickets to. Attend an Oakland raider game in Tucson would not live in Tucson. They would be coming in which means better have enough hotel space. You better have enough flights to get into Tucson. There's it's this is not that easy to pull off now. And I think it's fun to talk about, you know, having to one F L teams in Arizona. If only for one season, I still think that the the road to get there just isn't going going zone. It's probably going to Glendale. And I don't think that's going to happen either. I doubt it. Yeah. So where will they play? I'll no I don't think anybody's guess in two thousand twenty. That's what we do. Now. What governor Ducey he gave his seat of the state address yesterday priorities two thousand nineteen while we are going to talk with our political analyst about those and the impact they'll have on our state coming up next here on KTAR news..

So Kingsbury he goes from you can fire coach at Texas Tech. To hired coach. Guy. Arizona Cardinals, which is incredible. All right. So how long was he? Oh, see for for USC, like thirty days something like that. So what's your tiny you like this? Or you think it's positive for Zona? What's your take? I think it's because of what Patrick Mahomes is done the NFL. They think he can do that. With Josh Rosen unbelieving. I think that's the main thing. So it could benefit them in the long run. But we'll see. And of course, the homestay can. They always eat have who else. He coached case keenum, Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield. And of course, he can always they can always do the what they do with Wilkerson. Just fire him. After one season. Yeah. I don't think. So you can't do that twice in a row. Oh, you can. But for an owner as cheap as the Bidwell family. I don't think they're gonna pay to ex-coach's plus a current coach. I really don't see them firing another coach back in back to back years because then you start paying a ton of money for a position because at severance you have to pay the whole contract coaches get guaranteed money in the NFL, which is funny. Yeah. I I'm sure what he wasn't that much money though. Wilkes wasn't he one of the lowest paid coaches in the league. Yeah. In sounds like Kingsbury when they report it will be one of the lowest too. But still I mean, that's why if you're a steady coaches, you're not gonna just start throwing around money for three. I think that's why they went Kingsbury mostly is because he's cheap. He's gonna to be there at a low ball him of all low balls. But this is I head coaching gig in the NFL. So he's taken. Yeah. Does it concern you that he had a losing the Kingsbury at a losing record at Texas Tech? I think it's mainly progression of players is important. But does it concern you that? The knock on Patrick Mahomes was that he wasn't mechanically sound like he was a really raw prospect like he didn't develop when he was in college. Like does that bother you? Well, he came into the league through fifty touchdown passes. Not he was only wasn't a year. Yeah. I know. But that's a year of the Andy Reid Andy Reid who might be the best quarterback guru in the NFL. On mahomes. The knock on Mahomes was could do it all the Duke throw eighty yards. You remember his combine like it was incredible. And then the chiefs jumped up big time to go pick him. He wasn't going to be picking the top fifteen until the chiefs ponied up and went after him. I think this is I think he can do a lot of Kingsbury can do a lot of good things with this car doesn't does it bother you. Okay. So other than the quarterback position is he a good coach is Kingsbury. Good coach head coach not quarterbacks. When he was. He was Texas Tech is has to face a lot of great teams way better than they are in recruiting is also big problem in Texas Tech when you have Texas right next to in Texas 'em, right next to you. So I've heard this. This is true. Yeah. So what about his predecessor being more successful than him? Mike Leach was more successful at Texas Tech than Kingsbury was. Well, I do you want me to be on your side? It feels like on this..

"Draft is none other than cliff Kingsbury and within an hour of that video hitting Twitter word hit that Kharlamov on Sunday is going to announce himself eligible for the NFL draft a deadline for that is Monday. Now, we all know he's got a contract to play baseball with the Oakland A's. And Scott Boras said he's going to play baseball, then he won the Heisman Trophy, and Scott Boris kind of backed off a little bit and said, well, there's some options here. So if Kyle Amaury does not report when. You know? Rookies, I guess when would say report. In mid February the as have an opportunity to say, okay, you can still go to the combine. He's going to the combat if he wants to play in the NFL if he is saying I am going in the NFL draft. He is going to be in Indianapolis, not because the scouts wanna see him throw and run. Of course, they do. But scouts want him to a take physical and see what's going on in that body has and be looking in the eye and say how much you football. I know you you're play baseball. And you're great at it. And the fact that you're putting it all at risk by senior coming to the NFL. I get it you you love football. But do you wanna play baseball? Because if you're gonna be our quarterback in the NFL last thing, we want to see you do in June and July is, you know, ride the bus getting ready to try and be a major league. Or if you're talented enough, you know, take that ten game Rhody to gangqi stadium. And then down Tampa, Florida. I mean, you you need to get in our playbook. You gotta get in our locker-room. You've gotta be our leader. It's got to be one on the other day and age of Bono's football and baseball and was one was a hobby in the other one wasn't that's over. That's history. Certainly if your quarterback. And what does it mean for the Arizona Cardinals that this video surfaces? The kingsbury. I would I would choose him first overall. He can choose a player I over on. Obviously Steve com is a lot to say about it the general manager that's still there and the Bidwell family that went ahead and chose Josh Rosen. First round last year, a source close to the situation tells me Rosen's not going anywhere. Not going anywhere since why waste of pick on Cuyler Murray. I don't think they will. But that video is fascinating. And if you don't think that's going to cause all sorts of questions Kingsbury was on good morning football today. Talked up Rosen his throw or whatever there's no way in my mind. The cardinals hire him. Because he went into the room and put in front of them a plan for Kyla Murray. I don't think they do that. I think they put a plan. They put a plan in front of the cardinals for Josh Rosen. I don't think him coming into the bid wells office. The Bidwell family office would Steve time there and say, I know you one and done your coach, I think he also need a one and done your your your first round quarterback from last year too. And here's my plan for it. So we're gonna take column is five foot ten first overall. And you need a higher me and pay Lynn Swann a hundred and fifty thousand dollars for the right to do that. And let's go. That sounds completely beyond the realm of possibility to me, but. You never know copycat league bakers like five eleven he went up one last year. And I don't know Maury might be five ten ish ish, right? I'm shocked that he's thinking about the NFL why he just won the Heisman Trophy. It's an intense sport. I mean. Heisman Trophy and never NFL, Pat. No, I I understand that. But he did go to the NBA. That's what I mean. I know. Daniel Jeremiah is going to be first up. He's calling it about six minutes time. He's also, by the way, the radio analyst voice for the Los Angeles chargers. Going into New England to kick off divisional Sunday play huge game slots to talk about what DJ who's going to be sitting next to me and the combine booth now it may Aachen the front office.

You could your dream with them. I don't know if you necessarily take public, but from what I've been told and talking different people. I think that there had been some discourse. During the season about his displeasure with some of the calls in the way, things are going here divorce that internally and eventually, you know, when you're the skit in your Washington like this year, they were five and three or six, and they were one of the surprise teams for sure their schedule was that tough. Now Smith gets hurt that a litany of injured injuries on the offensive line. So I can understand why some guys were getting upset about that. But he was a Pro Bowl. Alternate ordering four picks issue. Slow down a little bit of Lee is a good player. They released him. They had to know that he was going to get picked up and he was subject to waiver claims. Unfortunately for him just picked up by the cardinals. I think he probably would have liked to have slid down the waiver wire a bit further second stint with the cardinals put him a few years ago. Maybe a scooped up by someone who is going to be playing more than just this doesn't this? But doesn't it also tell you something about the player that now he's had multiple stops? I mean, remember, he's only. Five years into the league. And now this is going to be his fifth different team four different organization because as I said he was back with the cardinals a few seasons ago, but doesn't that kind of point to the signs that you know, what this guy really just can't seem to stick with one organization for length of time. There might be might be some signs of that. And I think that there is some truth to it. However the team that Cleveland him was a team that he was with. Right. So like, your ex girlfriend isn't gonna take your bag unless you thought there was some redeeming quality after you're dating somebody else. I wasn't always the best. But I did like this about Dan. I didn't like that about. I mean, there has to be something in there that Arizona looked at this and thought, okay. Well, let's let's DJ up. I mean, maybe he wasn't always the best company guy when he was here, but he can still play. Really, well, and the argument you begin to make internally when you make these decisions is what's the productivity? He's going to give us versus the potential distraction. He could cause. And then what's the likelihood of that distraction, actually manifesting? Itself is you know, when you bounce around the light you begin to get that label sometimes it's fairly warded. Sometimes it's not. I understand why he'd be very upset about it. I'm not a big fan of voicing these things publicly, Dan, I think that you can handle them in house. But if you felt that he exhausted all options, and some of it may have just been frustration. That was building where. Midway through the season. If you're a team feel like you have a good shot at making the playoffs and then going into week sixteen seventeen you've been eliminated due to a late season slide, regardless of wine a lot of it in Washington has to do with the injuries especially losing your starting quarterback. But I think he's frustration of build up and respect Jay Gruden for going out and making the move in Washington's for an office. He's got a young team in some spots. And maybe you don't want to have this type of influence even though you only have a week left in the season. And I think on the flip side you look at this for our Zona. It's essentially a kicking the tires proposition right to see which have because look I I mean there have been reports out there. There have been rumors that they're going to be changes to this. Arizona Cardinals franchise in another week. Right. Who knows if Steve Wilks is getting a second year. I don't think Steve walks, basically, everything that people have talked about it almost seems like a foregone. What about Steve kind? Right. I mean, there's also been some rumblings that maybe, you know, the Bidwell family could decide to just make sweeping changes altogether. And if that's the case, well, you can have a new decis. Maker in here who may not want anything to do with the DJ swearing if you're going to keep him around perhaps past this one season. I it's he's going to get an opportunity here. It's just one game. But it's waste too small of sample size to say, okay. He's figure this thing out, and he's not going to be a distraction hauling forward. You're always going to get your best behavior. Mean that's the case. Whether it's you know. In changing jobs in relationships. Whatever it is you don't find out a lot about the person until they've been with you for extended period of time. Was there initially? So they do know a little bit about them. But yeah, over the course of this week, you're probably not going to be able to find out a ton. And I think the Redskins and cardinals both of them to teams really looking forward for this two thousand eighteen season to draw to a conclusion coming up are the patriots the favorites in the AFC again. Well, we'll ask a two-time Super Bowl champ next on Golic and wingo on ESPN radio and ESPN.

"But first of all the endeared orifice great to see it's been a while, Michael. It is great to see you. I haven't we haven't broken bread and awhile or caught up. So. It also. Well, let's start. Let's talk about when when you were kidnapped you from canton, the home in the hall of fame. Football is all they do what kind of football player where you at the early stage. And when did, you know, okay? You know, I've got a chance to be special here. At least have a chance to go to college. Well, I was bigger than everybody else. I was I was one of those. I was always the largest kid in my class. And always the biggest guy on on on my team. But I was not. I didn't get a letter when I was a sophomore in high school. I got a letter my junior and senior year. You know, I was all county that kind of stuff, but I wasn't AllState. When I was a senior in high school. I wasn't. I was hardly what you would call a blue chip recruit. So you were Jim Parker at it. I was not Jim Parker. Ohio state. Didn't offer me a scholarship. Michigan state. Didn't offer me a scholarship. I only had two big ten offers one was from Indiana. John pot was a coach over in Indiana. And the other offer I had came in very late. And it was from the university of Michigan bump Elliott was there at bump Elliott was the co-chair, but the coach who recruited me was the defensive backfield. Coach Don James who ended up being the coach at Washington. And then one of the better college coaches ever, he's from Maslin Ohio, which is right next door to canton, and he played high school football and grew up with my school coach. So the that connect, and that's where the connection came from. And I have always believed that somebody in their recruiting class backed out because they didn't offer me to like February of my senior year. And I took a trip up there. I loved it, and I signed so the state of Ohio didn't seal the border to keep you in the state of the tar, no. And you know, people always got mad at me. There's always a stigma in Ohio if if you're born and raised there and you go to Michigan. They're always mad at you. And I had get out of jail free card would he would he didn't offer me a scholarship and. I met Woody. A couple of times later on what I was playing for the cardinals. And he was very gracious about it. He said, hey, I blew it. It was my mistake. Yeah. Well, you know, he's he's not going to get everybody. So would that said you go to Michigan where you're good student back? Then I mean, where you a guy that was able to adapt. Well, yeah, I have to to college life. I it wasn't until my freshman year at Michigan that I would say that was the first time that a really dawned on me that maybe I could be a good college player back then freshmen weren't eligible to play varsity football that didn't happen until a couple of years later. And so the way my life turned was that both of our defensive tackles were returning and one of the offensive tackles graduate. So they let me an offensive tackle. Now playing tackle you had a few injuries along the way as well. And that may have maybe slowed down the progress a little bit. I only I started every game in college. I had a knee injury. My junior year. I got hurt Newhouse taking I got hurt on the first play of the game went out to block a linebacker, and I planted my leg and cut and tore my MC L. This is pre astroturf. This was on the grass field at at Columbus. Because you remember as you well know astroturf, then was very primitive where we had. We will we that's what we had in Ann Arbor. We had something was actually worse than astroturf was called tartan turf. Oh, yeah. I remember that three made it oh, baby. Was that stuff? Playing on steel wool is like playing on concrete before they smooth it over. Well, that's Bush stadium. Bush stadium. I've always said is like playing on concrete with a piece of indoor outdoor carpeting rolled over the top over brutal which. Yeah, I know I started every game. I started every game at Michigan and. Probably my after my sophomore year where I really thought. Well, you know, what I got maybe I can make something of myself. So before the NFL was like this mega event as far as the draft is concerned on TD. How did you find out that you were drafted be the team you a plan for you going to be playing for and what did you know about Saint Louis as a whole? Well, the only thing I knew about Saint Louis a whole I'll start with that is I grew up a Cleveland Browns fan and and the Browns used to play the cardinals all the time and the cardinals always gave my brownies a tough go that the cardinals had to sod off little cornerback Fisher, Pat fish, and he used to go up against Gary Collins, the wide receiver for the Browns. And and I used to get so mad I'm going how can he get covered by that little fart? And so that was basically the extent of my knowledge about the cardinals. But you brought up the draft. Yes. It was a little different little phone, call telegram acting the draft was at the end of January. So the draft was really early compared to how it is now. Yes. And it was strictly a phone. Call. I thought it was going to get drafted in the first round. So I was upset I left I went for a walk and while I was gone. I think George Boone called judge. I won't call the great, George, George, boo. George Boone called who was the director of player personnel. I guess for the cardinals back then. So I got drafted by team that didn't even have a coach should have been a free cursor char-, Charlie one, they fired Charlie winter and they had not yet hired Bob hallway. So I got drafted by a team that didn't have a coach the red flags should have gone off. I should've realized right. Then that this was going to be an unconventional trip will Bob hallway your he defensive coordinator with the Vikings and they brought him in. And he was apparently a very good defensive coach. But apparently, his people skills didn't follow his defensive ability. Wow. I don't know what I could say to. That's that's a very good description house me nicer, Bob, Bob was a good guy. But he he he tried to be bud grant, you know, instead of being himself. He he tried to emulate bud grant, and the way bud ran the system and in Minnesota, and it just it just didn't work. He was mad. He was hard on us. I thought playing for both Becker was tough until you ran. Yeah. Bob hallway, he wouldn't let us he wouldn't let us have a drink during practice. I mean, just crazy stuff. You talk about guys who come from one place. Now, he comes from a place to head. Bob Lert Cima Carl Eller Allen page Gary Larson, that's pretty good front four. He didn't have anything like that. And he didn't have Fran tarkenton and he didn't have a lot of good players the Vikings had. So then you find out whether you can really coach enough. Well, yes. And and you know, he certainly didn't inherit the defense. In minnesota. We have offense of talent. And Jim Hart was here. Jackie Smith was MacArthur lane was here number thirty six Ernie McMillan. We had we had we had some talent here any truth to that rumor that the year MacArthur lane rush for nine hundred and thirty six yards. He would have had a bonus heavy got two thousand yards and for some reason he didn't get a chance to play. Well, that was I think that was the year before I got here. So I I didn't see that firsthand. I know that. The relationship between MAC and and the Bidwell family was strained. We'll be nice here. At times. It was very strange and MacArthur pretty much facilitated his trade degreen bay when. Towards the end of the season. Bill did we'll walk through the locker room and MacArthur unleashed, a a real string of obscenities. And that's one way to guarantee that you're not starting next year. Yeah, they're door. I guess thicker around we're coming back with do dress for success. A Yale study found the guy's address better at work. Command more respect and leading the way is a British shirt company..

"That drained is possible success. Oh, I already, I already know what's going to happen. Greg. Greg could orchestrate a trade one of the worst trades ever and she will like that. This is already what the typing I Eric. I mean, it's so it's it's reached PS peak predictable. We all get it. TC predictability. All right. I got one. Okay. Here we go last one. Patrick Peterson, that statement that he made. That's cool. And I'm sure that's what he was asked to do when he did it, but you know what the Kansas City Chiefs are. So close there. So close there right there. And what if you you sent. P Pat, Pat, Pete, Pete, that squared squared to the chief for first round pick the chiefs are in that hyper valuable competitive advantage window right now, Patrick Mahomes you might be the best quarterback and football. He's just in the second year of his rookie deal. And that gives the chiefs a huge competitive advantage for the next two to three years Peterson addresses a huge need, assuring up that secondary twenty or twenty eight years old perfectly fits inside this window for Casey, two to three years before they have to pay an asked of money to Mahomes. Peterson, get quarterback like money with that team until then. And then they get an elite defender in the final piece of the puzzle in Casey. I like it. Everyone wins. I don't know why. Patrick Peterson wouldn't like it to how much are they paying all he would, but he's not billion. I think he would love it. I mean, draft picks, oh, first round, pick just one first round pick. That's not gonna cut it. It's going to take a lot more than I than third. I be less worried about Bridget and more worried about the Bidwell family who had a meeting with Patrick Peterson on what is today Wednesday. And basically, I think sat him down and said, you're our guy, we love you, you know, we're, we, we're going to become winners. We're not trading one of the best players in our franchise history. We're going to become winters. It's that easy. Well, that's why I think that's the. That's the cell job that they're doing to Peterson, they're the ones I think that are getting in the way here and I could go to them. I think that's I think that's smart bombs about to go off. Right? I don't think he survives this. So you're going to have a entire new just signed the long term. Think I kind bomb off decision here. I think it's the owners, but if I'm just saying the GM coming off what he came off and his personal life. And if they drop a two and fourteen, maybe they decided time for a true fresh start, and then you lose that connection to the guy that drafted him. That's all kind of domino pieces. But. Okay. Bridget's. Evidently. With the statement on that red hot and masculine, good drink whole sister. Wow, good trade. Nice work. While we end this segment before Mark kills me. I'm fine with it..

"Of all Dan dared orifice great to see it's. Been a while. Michael it. Is great. To see you I haven't we haven't broken bread and a or caught up so Four. Two it also well, let's, start let's talk about when when. You were. Kidnapped from canton the home in the hall of. Fame Football is all they do what kind of football player where you at the early stage and when, did. You know. Okay, you know. I've got a chance to be special here at least, have a chance to go to college Well I was bigger than everybody else I was I was one of those I? Was. Always the, largest kid my class and always the biggest guy on on my team but I was not I didn't get a letter when, I was a sophomore In high school I, got a letter my junior. And senior year I was all county that, kind of stuff but I wasn't AllState When I was a senior in, high school I wasn't I. Was hardly what you would call? A blue chip. Recruit so, you were Jim Parker it I was. Not Jim Parker Ohio State didn't offer me a scholarship Michigan state didn't offer me. A scholarship I, only, had two big ten offers, one was from Indiana, John pot was a coach over in Indiana and the other offer I had came in very late and it was, from the university of Michigan bump Elliott was there. At bump Elliott, was, the co-chair but the coach who recruited. Me was the defensive backfield coach Don James who ended up being the. Coach at Washington and then one of the better college coaches. Ever he's from massillon Ohio which is right next door to canton and he played high school football and grew up with my school, coach so the that connect and that's. Where the connection came from and. I've always believed that somebody in their recruiting class backed out because they didn't offer me to like? February, of my senior year and I took a trip up there I. Loved it and I side? So? The state of. Ohio didn't, seal the border to keep you in. The state of the tar no they And. You know people always got mad. At me the there's always a stigma in Ohio if you're born and raised there and you go? To, Michigan They're, always mad at you and I had, to get out of jail free. Card would he would he didn't offer me a scholarship and I, met Woody a couple of times. Later. On, what I, was, playing for the cardinals and he. Was very gracious about? It he said hey I blew it was my mistake? Yeah well you know he's he's not going to get everybody? So, would, that sit you go to. Michigan, where you're good student back then I mean where you a guy that was able to adapt well yeah I have to college life I it wasn't until my freshman year at Michigan that I would say that was the first. Time that it really dawned on me that maybe. I could be a good college player back then freshmen weren't eligible to play varsity football that didn't happen until a couple of. Years later and so the way my. Life turned was that both of our defensive tackles were returning and one of the, offensive tackles graduate? So they let me an offensive tackle Now playing tackle you had few injuries along the way as well and that may have maybe. Slowed down the progress a little bit I only I started every game in college I had a. Knee injury my junior year I got. Hurt I got hurt on the first play, the game went out to block a linebacker and I planted my leg and cut and. Tore my MC l. this was pre astroturf this was on the, grass field at at Columbus because you remember as you well know astroturf then. Was very primitive where we had a. Week that's what we had in Ann Arbor we had something was. Actually, worse. Than astroturf was called tartan turf, oh, yeah. I remember that? Three made it oh baby was that stuff Plan on steel wool is. Like, playing. On concrete before they smooth it, over, well. That's Bush stadium Bush stadium I've always said is. Like, playing on concrete with a piece. Of indoor outdoor carpeting rolled over the top over brutal. Tom yeah I know I started every game I started every. Game, at Michigan and Probably my. After my sophomore year where I really thought well? You know I got maybe I can make something of myself so before the NFL was like this mega event as far as the? Draft, is concerned on TV how did you find out that you, were drafted be the team you a plan for you going to be playing for and what did you know about Saint Louis. As a whole well the only thing I knew about Saint Louis as a whole I'll start with that, is, I grew, up Cleveland Browns fan and and the Browns used, to play the cardinals all the, time and the cardinals always gave my brownies, a tough, go that the cardinals had to sawed off little. Cornerback Fisher Pat fish and he used to go up against Gary Collins the wide receiver for the Browns and and I used to. Get, so mad I'm going how could. He get covered by that little fart And so that was basically. The extent of my knowledge about the cardinals but you brought up the draft yes it was a little, different, little those, are the phone call telegram acting the draft was, at the end of January so, the draft was really early compared to how, it is, now yes and it was strictly a phone call I thought it was going to get drafted. In the first round so I was upset I left I went. For, a walk and while I was gone I. Think George Boone called judge I won't call the great George George boo George Boone called who was the director of, player personnel for the, cardinals back then so I got drafted by. Team that didn't even have a coach should have been a free. Cursor char- Charlie wonder they fired Charlie. Winter and they had not yet hired Bob hallway so I got. Drafted by a team. That didn't. Have a coach the red flags should have gone off I should've realized right then that this was going to be an unconventional trip will Bob hallway, your he defense coordinator, with the Vikings and they brought him in. And he was apparently a very good defensive coach would apparently is. People skills didn't follow his defensive ability Wow I don't know what I could say to That that's that's. A very good descript house, me a nicer, Bob Bob was a good guy but he he he. Tried, to be bud grant instead of being himself he he tried to emulate bud grant and, the way bud, ran the system and. In Minnesota and. It just it just didn't. Work he was man he was hard on us I thought. Playing, for both, Becker was tough until you ran. Yeah Bob hallway he wouldn't let. Us he, win let's have. A. Drink during practice I mean just crazy stuff You, talk about guys, who come from one place now he comes from a. Place, ahead Bob alerts ima Carl Eller Allen page Gary Larson that's pretty good front four he, didn't have anything, like that and he. Didn't have Fran. Tarkenton and he didn't have. A lot of good players the Vikings had so then you. Find, out whether, he can really coach well yes. And and you know he did. Certainly didn't, inherit the defense In Minnesota we have offensive talent and Jim Hart. Was here Jackie Smith was a MacArthur. Lane was here number thirty six Ernie McMillan we had we had we had. Some talent here any. Truth to that rumor that the year MacArthur lane. Rush for nine hundred and thirty six yards he would have had a bonus. Heady. Got. Two thousand yards and for. Some reason he didn't get a chance to play with that was I think that was the year before I got here so I. I didn't see that firsthand I know that the relationship. Between, MAC, and, and the Bidwell, family was strained we'll be nice here At times it was very strange and MacArthur pretty much facilitated his. Trade degreen bay when Towards the end of the season. Bill Bidwill walk through the locker room and MacArthur unleashed a a. Real, string of, obscenities and, that's..
