"This is Thanksgiving week and we all have a lot to be thankful for. This gentleman, boy does he have a lot to be thankful for. He was on the biggest stage at the World Series of poker. He is a Massachusetts native and is a 2021 WSO P main event final tables. There were 6550 people who played in this event. He ended up finishing in 9th place and taking home a cool one $1 million. Welcome to the show. Chase Bianchi. Chase. Thanks for joining us here on the bernardi poker show. Oh, thanks for having me. I feel like a million bucks. Once it hits your bank account, it'll really feel like a normal bike shop. So obviously an incredible experience congratulations, has it kind of settled in? You know, I'm sure it was like everyone says, boy, it was a real surreal experience to go through that week ten days. But have you kind of come back down to earth? Yeah, yeah, definitely sank in a little bit. After called my wife after busting out and her breaking up a little bit and crying of like, wow, we have a house down payment. We can buy a home. You know, things start to get a little more real when you see the real world implications of it..

"Thing, can we think of a collection and get Jim a new phone connection or something? I don't know what to do with he must be using a rotary or maybe a remember those phones you see in the movies. They're on the kitchen wall. It sounds like he's talking to a tin cans out to a string. You remember those back in the day? I noticed Bianchi was very measured in his statements today about Mullen. And I was just thinking back a couple years ago, he was on your show 2018 and he was like, hey, Georgia fans better enjoy their dominance over Florida right now because once Mullen starts recruitment and elite level, it's going to be over with. And I remember writing an article about something Bianchi once said after the first time urban and Sabine met and he said that urban Meyer and not Nick Saban would be the next Bear Bryant too. Well, you know, and this is not listen, I love college football love listen to your show. I do so, probably every day, Paul. But I hear these sports journalists, these experts, you know, they come out and they make statements like that and Mike Griffith comes on and he's just so far. You know, I heard him talking about Anthony Richardson the other day how he was has been quarterback and he was going to be a generational type talent or amazing talent at Florida and I was thinking, you know, he's had a couple of games where he performed well against USF and if AU and some smaller schools, but it just seems that we got guys let me get way out over their skis and I make these predictions about Mullen and recruiting and how you're going to dominate Georgian in three years later it's having to eat crow, you know? Well, we live in the media in a hot take world. I was on a couple of shows this morning and they asked me about Harbaugh, Shannon. And I've been talking about Harvard for 5 years and there's almost nothing left to say. And you could almost tell the hosts were disappointed that I just didn't call for an execution. Because that's what we come to expect. Reasoned responses are no longer part of the everyday discourse. And in Mullen's case, I thought Bianchi was a little tame, but that's okay. That's his opinion. I think the idea that's got strictly needs to sit down with Dan Mullen is laughable because Scott struck on those Dan Mullen better than we do. He knows there's no sitting down with him. They work together in Mississippi 7 years. It seems like at some point, though, Paul, you know, I've had a problem with Mueller. I think it's two things. I think there were one. He just doesn't seem to care for recruiting, at least that's the what I'm thinking. I just don't think he enjoys it. I think what he said yesterday will haunt him, Shannon, because the guys that do recruit, and we know who the best recruiter is right now, we'll use that against him not directly. Kirby snorts not walking into a 5 stars home with the Dan Mullen article, but somebody else is making sure they see that. And when they see that, they get turned off. And by the way, they were probably already turned off. And I just don't think he can recruit at that level. And I've never understood why Florida can, and what Bianchi said is true that new football facility is going to help them. But it's not going to help them in time. This is the critical year in recruiting for Dan Mullen, because if he can't get a great class in there now, he is going to be a sitting duck next year, one of the things that Georgia fan that always just irked me when coach Rick was there. And I had a great coach Rick, but she would watch deshaun Watson at Clemson. You would watch Trevor Lawrence eclipse and you would watch all these great athletes from the state of Georgia that ended up outside the state. And if Dan Mullen and his staff could just lock down the borders of that state and just get half or a third of the talent. You know, you got schools, a Motley pop took late central. You've got schools down there that are just ready to make for producing NFL talent. And if you could just get a half or a third of it, but I just don't think he has the appetite for it. It seems like at some point, Paul, Florida was helped give him some PR training or something because it's just repetitive uncomfortable, unusual interactions with the media that give him these situations of hot water. Well, here let me say this. Shannon, you can't help some people. And I don't mean that to sound like I'm being petty about Dan Mullen, but he's at a point where he is not going to listen to someone who comes into his office and says, listen, coach, could we go over? He knows, when you know everything, and I believe he does know in his mind, he knows more than anyone else. That's how you get in trouble. I know the PR people in Florida. They're smart. They've already had that conversation with him. He just doesn't listen. Well, I would think so with the way you know and I'm sure that was taken out of context yesterday. He just didn't want to talk about recruiting at that time. Well, yeah, but you have to. When you say that, though, you have to understand, I mean, this isn't the first time this has ever happened. I mean, you have to know that in real time and you make a statement like that. You just better be prepared for that. And what you say is, hey, listen, we love to recruit here. I know people have said things about us, but nobody's going to work harder. Just say, say things that sound right. Don't give the naysayers ammunition. Now, and the reason why he said what he did is that's how he built that's how he believes and he's got a defense mechanism built up. He's got an attitude and those are things that will come back to haunt Moe. And hey, thanks for the call. I appreciate it. We're heading to a break. I've been may zell will join us next. If you have not heard the story about Ivan and his son, in a brand new book that is just out, I hope you'll stick around. It is.

"So rather reasoned response by Bianchi on Dan Maul and much more reason than many of you in many in the media. So maybe maybe we were too hard on Mullen yesterday. Meanwhile, we're three and a half hours away from learning week one of the college football poll a couple of you get a wide variety. I was on with Heather earlier on some shows and we're pretty much chalk when it comes to where we see it. And after tonight, it really doesn't matter where anybody else sees it. I thought it was interesting that Danny canal and I think we tried to get Danny on today, but for some reason he was going to be tied up. Listen to his top ten Georgia Michigan state, you can't argue that Oklahoma three, you can't argue that Cincinnati forward, I agree with that. Ohio State 5? Okay. Wake forest 6 problem with that, Alabama 7, how do you put Alabama behind wake forest? Yeah, I'm well aware, wake forest. Is undefeated. Alabama behind wake forest, that is interesting. Wow, we have to get Danny on in a couple of days. See if we can get his rationale behind that other than the obvious. 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 is the number. Let's check out Mike who is in Houston. Hey Mike, go ahead. Paul, I thought Mike Bianchi's description of Dan Mullen, you could easily insert Danny canal into that sentence. He's always had this bitterness regarding the SEC. And there's a high likelihood that you know him better than I do. Why is that? I mean, you know, he played for Florida state, right? He did, and he was a really good quarterback. I did college football live with Danny for about two or three years before he left ESPN. And my theory on Danny is that he just likes to drop Malta of cocktails in the swimming pools of SEC fans. Well, and that makes sense. I mean, when you're in the business of sports commentary, dropping a few bombs can help with your rating. I figured maybe he just really wanted to play in the SEC and didn't get the opportunity. And went to FSU instead, which obviously was not a bad gig when he played because he was an excellent college quarterback. No, and they had great teams, too. Yeah. But I just wanted to. You think I would be the last person to start a because I get accused of it all the time that people think I just say things to say them to get attention to make a name for myself. Yeah, all the usual things. I think Danny just thinks there are a couple of people like that. And some of them are very obvious, by the way. That they just do things to get Twitter hits and it's fine. It really I just pointed it out for the obvious reason. But it just doesn't mean very much. And by the way, and I don't thanks for the call. I don't mean to be too hard on tonight. I think it's an important benchmark. But once you start hearing the committee chairman roll out tonight, he's going to say the same thing. He's going to I was just reading an article by Dan woken, who I'll just read you this article regional line here because it's pretty much exactly what I was going to say until I read it ran into it. He said, he said, instead of hearing real facts and transparency, we will, instead, we will we will get reporters questions being batted down like phrases like we looked at the entire body of work and data points. And he said, it's infuriating. We fall forward every time. I've always wondered and questioned why can't we get transparency? Why can't we find out what's really going on in that room? And you always hear well, the people in the room wouldn't be wouldn't feel as comfortable. The Supreme Court puts names by decisions. And that's all we're only deciding the future of mankind. That's the problem with college football. They have always taken themselves too seriously. And what you see tonight is a perfect example. And by the way, I don't want to act like I'm not my employer is not part of it. They're a partner in this. We all know that. So my question is probably ought to be to them as opposed to Bill Hancock. Let's continue. Speaking of questions, how about Daryl? In Georgia hey Daryl. Paul? We're doing great, Daryl, thank you. I'll just get you ready for game 6 of the World Series, getting ready for college football for cold to come out. I mean, we all know it was going to be number one. You know what, I would go Georgia, okay? I would go Michigan state, I would go Alabama and then a fall from you could give a house day Oregon, I don't really care. Cincinnati nope all. This is wild, okay? Who have they beat all the game? Whoopie dude. The problem is, they don't have nobody else to play. And they need to get in the real copper. I mean, they beat navy boxes. They're getting in the big 12 Daryl. They're getting in there, Paul, but they're not there. Do you think that it would be Alabama? No. No. I mean, you know, I just, I just don't see. And I don't know what person is getting pop for. I don't think that they deserve to be there. Paul. Last of a year ago, the Gators were praising Mueller. I mean, he was the best thing since last Brad..

"Didn't think that he would fit in with the athletic department. So maybe we're seeing that Jeremy foley as perception was right. It seems like he'll win out. So he'll either go 9 in four or 8 and 5 because the next four games unless unless you can convince me that FSU is good enough to beat them and maybe they are. But what happens in the off season because recruiting doesn't seem like it's going in the right direction. And what happens next year, Mike? Well, that's why I think Dan Mullen instead of having a hissy fit and not wanting to answer questions about recruiting and canceling media availability. He should be out there right now when the reporter asked the yesterday about recruiting. He should have used that negative question, turned it into a positive talk to, hey, we're getting ready to open our new $90 million stand-alone football facility that's as nice as any in the country. If not nicer, that's going to be a game changer obviously if they win the rest of their games this year and Anthony Richardson looks good as the quarterback. That's something a positivity that fans can get excited about. So I do think there's some positives that Dan Mullen could put out there. Again, if he wasn't such a big baby right now, he should understand that he needs to be positive now, not negative. Talking to my biag I want to ask you about somebody that used to work down there and I know you had a good relationship with him and he was extremely successful. But his experience in Nebraska has been close to a disaster, and that's Scott frost. Watching it from watching him down in Orlando and now, what do you make out of his situation and what happened? I'm shocked. I'm shocked. I mean, again, we talk about Scott Ross. Scott Strickland actually wanted to hire Scott frost at Florida and obviously he didn't take didn't take that offer because he wanted to go home to Nebraska because that's where his family lived. That's where his dad and mom went in Nebraska. He went to the basket. He always his dad wanted him to come back up there and go. I really don't think Scott for us wanted to coach at Nebraska, but he had to take that job. But I thought it would be successful. I didn't know if he would turn Nebraska back into the dynasty was under his former coach Tom Osborne. But I thought he could go up in Nebraska and turn that into a Wisconsin type of program. And but he hasn't done it. And I don't know why I'm baffled. He doesn't seem. He's sort of he sort of seems to me like since he's gotten to Nebraska. I mean, he used to be when Scott frost was at UCF. He was charismatic. He was when he walked into a room. He had that it factor. Now he seems like he sort of seems like urban Meyer when you look at him on the sideline with the Jaguars now. Urban Meyer used to have this arrogance and confidence about him. Now he lifts almost lost on the sidelines in the NFL. And to me, that's sort of like Scott for us right now. He just seems like he has no answers. And Mike is someone who covered urban at Florida, of course, what does his future look like in Jacksonville? I don't think it looks good at all. I really don't, I think he's out of his element. Obviously, he's lost some of the trust in that locker room with the incident in Ohio. And he's saying things that you wonder is this guy really understand what the NFL is about? When he first took over in the preseason game started, he was like, man, you don't really get to run as many plays in the NFL as you do in college football. And I'm like, well, yeah, urban. Don't you watch the NFL? And then this last week, they had to buy week, and he said, for the first time in my life, I've gotten to sit down on a Sunday and watch NFL games and I'm thinking to myself, wait a minute. This is an NFL coach now. It's got grew up in football. He's never sat down on a Sunday during an off week of college football when he was off from college football and what? Games on an NFL Sunday, so again, he's saying and doing baffling things now. Mike, great to talk to you always appreciate your time. Be well. I'm good to talk to you. Thanks. My Bianchi on their own. A little less combustible combustive than some of the collars yesterday. We will get your reaction to all of that 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5..

"We welcome you back a little bit of other news today that's interesting. Quite held and fired a couple weeks ago by southern cow is going to be the next coach at Georgia, southern, meanwhile, my Bianchi joining us, longtime columnist in Orlando, great talk show host and Mike it's always good to talk to you. How are you? Always good to be on with the second most beautiful bald man in the south as you know that Paul? Great to have you with this column on Dan Mullen and I want you to explain it, because I think it's interesting that you point out he's not getting fired, but and I think that's a very big bud. Yeah, I don't think he's going to get fired this year. Scott Strickland just gave you a contract extension. Scott Strickland is sort of tied to Dan Holland Dan Mullen at the hip. Right now. And I think Scott Strickland believes that this program is not in disarray, yeah, recruiting is an issue now. That's obvious, but you look at Florida's games this year. It's not like they're besides the Georgia game, which was that was a clobbering. But Alabama, this extra point, maybe they could have beaten Alabama. LSU, that game was a write down to the wire game, Kentucky, a fluky block field. Florida's actually out gained every opponent on their schedule this year. They badly out gained Alabama. They badly out gained Kentucky. They even out gained Georgia by a yard. I think it was. So how many Scott Strickland still thinks damn moan is a good coach and a good play caller and all of that, but there are some things that need to be addressed when it comes to recruiting and the talent discrepancy between Florida and Georgia and Florida and the rest of the elite teams in college football. Mike, listen, I think he certainly is good, but you talk to fans every day on your show. What are they saying and where do they go from here? Well, Paul, you know how what happens when a negativity or is Ron zook used to call it? I'm always in the system when the noise and the system creates in and the fans start getting down under coach and then Dan Mullen makes the dumb move of canceling all the media availability this week. That spirals out of control. So the mainstream media starts writing negative stories as well. And that negativity feeds on itself. Dan Mullins is not doing himself any favors by how he's acting. We've seen that in the past last year, for instance, he got himself in trouble with his attitude and his arrogance and it's happening again. So Dan Mullen needs to start acting like a true leader and realize that this is a big boy football and start and stop treating it like big baby football because he's acting like a big baby right now. I'm curious Mike and sometimes people think this is inside baseball. And it is to a point, but when you're under fire like he is and developments happen like they did yesterday. It creates a much more toxic situation than it deserves, but why would a school and I think they usually had good PR down? There you tell me, do something that is only going to bring negativity to the program. Like canceling the media availability. I don't understand it. If somebody is advising ten, Mullen, they need to stop it, all right? Or if nobody's advising Dan, Mullen, they need to start advising Dan Mullen. But I think then more just I think Florida might be trying to advise him, but again, Dan Mullen is sometimes a petulant child. He does things his own way. Sometimes he's not going to listen to people. So again, I don't know who is advising Florida Dan Mullen prize, but somebody needs to start whether it be Scott Strickland, I think it has to start there. He's the AD and he has to tell Dan Mullen. Listen, you're not doing yourself any favors. You're just throwing a bunch of gasoline on an already volatile situation. But Mike, wouldn't this conversation have already happened a year ago there were countless incidents which we all talked about, whether they were as bad as we made them out to be or not. But he had four or 5 starting with the Halloween mass situation with his kids and so many other issues that it's hard for me to believe at this point Scott hasn't already had that conversation. Well, they certainly had conversations last year when after the last of Texas a and M when Dan Mullen said, hey, we need to pack the swamp next week during the raging pandemic and the school president and Scott Strickland and all of them sort of, they essentially called Dan Mullen on the carpet for that and Dan Mullen sort of apologized the week after. But again, I don't know if there's anything Scott Strickland can deal with Dan Mullen because of his attitude. There's a reason that when will must champ got fired at the university of Florida that Jeremy foley, he didn't hire Dan Mullen. He hired Jim mcelwain instead, even though Dan Mullen was probably the better candidate, but Jeremy foley never liked Dan Mullen's attitude when he was an assistant coach at Florida, thought he was arrogant, thought he was petulant..

"If they go to the championship put up, but you know, Paul, you know, if you watch that shield between Alabama and auburn, Alabama has a real time going out on the planes. They do. Let me say this to you. I just thought that was too complex for Stephen a to explain. So I just went ahead and rushed right ahead to the Georgia game, but you're right. Alabama has lost three of the last four games at Jordan hare stadium. Yeah, so you always got to keep eye on that. But Paul, you know, something else. You know, I'm a big Tennessee fan and I love the sports. But sometimes, our own 65 years old and don't forget to tell us even though they've had you around. I still want to debate it. But well, you know, you know, all the time, I know we like I said, but Tennessee cran, we all have our favorite team. But when you talk about the ASC three, in the history of the SVC, okay, who you root for who you're, of course, and we all want our teams to remember. Just a history, you know, what I said 65 years of all the great memories I have received of basketball football with the players has come through the SEC, not only SEC, but the coach is there. You go back to the Alabama firm with standard medieval basketball and all that. And of course, lately, as with Tennessee, 8 hour, you know, just to be able to build out to appreciate the history of sports. I don't care who your favorite team is, but kind of Robinson's and all that. There's some great moments in sports. And I just have appreciation for that. Well, I'm glad to hear you say that. So I think we feel similarly on that. Listen, you take care of yourself, come back soon. We'll take a break. More to come. More on the CFP, a little bit later on with a number of key guests and more of your phone calls. And Mike Bianchi on Dan Mullen's future right after this. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Hello, everybody,.

"And very special good afternoon here on a Tuesday, the 2nd of November, a lot happening and we will get to all of it here in the coming minutes. We're just four hours away from the first college football playoff reveal and we'll talk about that a little bit later on. We have a number of guests, including Pete famil, Connor Riley covers the dogs. We'll talk to Matt Brown, who believes Alabama ought to be ranked number four behind George and Michigan state and Cincinnati. I saw earlier today, Danny canal had Alabama. I think it's 7th or 8th in his pole everyone has an opinion. And none of the matter because the 13 person committee in Grapevine will be the final jurisdiction on all of this from now on. We'll talk to Mike Bianchi also Mike writing in his column about the future of Dan Mullen, also Ivan maisel in an hour, a story that some of you perhaps have heard about, he has a book out about the loss of his son a couple of years ago. It's quite a poignant story. And we'll talk to Ivan coming up here in just a few minutes. And your phone calls at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 a little bit of news and some of it's fairly disturbing, really when you saw the bulletin today about Henry ruggs, the former Alabama, all American, now with Las Vegas, he was involved in a fiery crash early Tuesday morning that killed one person and will lead to rugs being charged with DUI resulting in death according to the Los Angeles excuse me if the Las Vegas police department officers responded to her traffic collision and it involved rugs he was impaired, according to police. And we will keep you updated on that. But if convicted, he could face two to 20 years in prison. Certainly disturbing story. Also, we mentioned the CFP that comes out in four hours. Still a lot of teeth gnashing about Dan Mullen. And we'll certainly get to that as well. We appreciate you being here. And always look forward to chatting one more bit of sad news to pass along that a lot of folks around the SEC certainly will remember the name Charles Hollis just an extraordinary sports writer, mostly for the Birmingham news. He passed away on his farm in common on Monday according to AL dot com. He was inducted into the Alabama sports Hall of Fame as Alabama sports writers Hall of Fame in 2008 and is being remembered not only across Alabama but across the country today is truly a great gentleman and an extraordinary sportswriter. In fact, my first years of working in Birmingham, I worked alongside him covering auburn in Alabama and really one of the most accomplished sports writers in the state's history. He worked at the Birmingham news for more than 40 years. According to his former coworker and longtime friend Charles Goldberg, Goldberg said in my mind, I think he was the first true beat rider in the state and he's right because at the time, I know we talk about who's covering Florida or Georgia or Alabama or auburn. When I first started, I covered both teams. So we did not have what was called the traditional beat system that we have now. He first started covering auburn, and according to Goldberg and many others, he really shut the standard and I agreed so sorry to hear that news. We will take your phone calls beginning now, a 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 and we begin with John, who's in Louisville. Hey, John, good afternoon. Hey, certainly a somber mood to the star of the show, but I'll try and add some levity. Please Ken. Thank you. By the way, the close to the show yesterday with ray dog was like a WWE event. I'll meet you punk on the high seas in the air in a back alley. And you know, that guy, he was talking about legend and what concerns me is I think he was serious. Usually the arm, but I thought, I think that guy's serious. I'm not concerned about legends well-being, but I think he went into double digits on the word punk. Oh my gosh, yeah. And so I have one question, one request. I'll start with the request and that is you're going to be down in College Station. Can we get mad on the show? I think a lot of people can. I have not heard from that yet, and maybe math hasn't heard the word that we will be in College Station. But let's hope we can hook up with Matt. Well, tell me you'll hook him up with some coats. I mean, I know he's looking for a date. Yeah, I mean, we have certain standards here, John, that we're not allowed to discuss. Here's my question, bob. Sure. You mentioned, I think a week or two ago that you had been dismissed from McDonald's. So I have to ask you, was that for showing up to work after happy hour? Was it did you pull a LSU no show? Or did you just plain burn the French fries? Yeah. Well, for those old listeners of the show probably heard me tell the whole story 20 years ago, my finalist, I did everything at McDonald's. It was my first job. Technically, I think I even began when I was 15, which was pushing the envelope with the state with the state child labor law, but I did start and I cleaned up. I did around I would walk around with my ten and clean up. I worked on every I worked on fries. I really like fries, by the way. I did counter flip burgers. I knew I was in trouble, though. John, my last day there, it was a cold Saturday. I'll never forget it. It couldn't have been more than 25° outside. Windshield below that of a country western song, but when I got there, I saw my assignment on the board and I was the shake man that day. And I didn't have a lot didn't have a lot of business at the end of the day. They put up the next two weeks schedule. And I wasn't on there. And I just walked up to the assistant manager or the manager, and I said, by the way, I don't see myself on next week's schedule. He said, no, and you're not on the next week's either. At that point, I began to realize he said we appreciate everything you've done and you're no longer employed here. So now you know how a stable feel after the show tonight. Yeah, it was a crushing but it was a crushing blow. I later amended the story because I don't think the word fire is accurate. I use the word. We parted the ways and they wished me well in my future endeavors. Then don't let the door hit you on the way. Exactly. Thank you very much. Great to hear from you. Let's check in with Curtis in Tennessee, hello, Curtis. Hey, Paul, good to hear from you again, man. I thought Witcher? Thank you very much. I'm sorry to hear about rugs and all the time that's happening up for my players out to defend. Thank you. Talking about, but it is more than 50,000. I'm following you, Paul. Yeah, I was on with Stephen a this morning. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know if he liked what I said to him. I was. Joking about Alabama, maybe being better than George or belonging in the same category, and I tried to talk about football. You were trying to explain to him that they still got to play Georgia. Right. If they go to the championship put up, but you know, Paul, you know, if you watch that shield between Alabama and auburn, Alabama.

"Rep. Bella glad to have you with us all right tom. This year darlington of this other. Five hundred or labour weekend was the first race of the ten race playoffs. I think it's been hugely popular to have that raises the first race of the playoffs. We know nascar would like to have their season and probably we've heard early october. If that's the case how do you keep darlington as the first race of the playoffs and keep the southern five hundred or labor day. That's up to the schedule. Makers who are lots more. I i told. I told you the no death and i will tell you that and i will also tell you. They rarely if ever actually never have called me to ask my opinion how they should arrange the show. You got some good opinion But i think having darlington on labor day is fantastic. it's perfect. It's like walking through a gate into the playoffs. You know it's. It's like walking into the kingdom of playoffs is it's it's just such a perfect way to start the season out and you know just my opinion we. We have a few years left on the current. Tv package. I would imagine they're going to. They're going to want to maintain continuity for the the tv advertisers In terms of of keeping the number of races the same. So i don't know what they could do jordan. What do you think. I don't think if the idea is you shorten the nascar cup series scheduled. Thirty six points races down to. I don't know thirtyish or whatever that number is you then are not going to have the southern five hundred on labor day weekend be the first place. So it's gonna if that is the goal and i don't think that is the goal anymore from the conversations with people they they're happy with where the schedulers they like it. Television partners like the the inventory they have. Yes you don't like going against the nfl in the fall but nascars numbers while down compared to earlier in the year where they're not competing against the nfl are still pretty good and they still have a value there so if the idea is to continue to have inventory of races into the fall then yes darlington. Could well be the first playoff race if eventually that schedule is knocked down a little bit. Darlington isn't moving off labor day weekend. Nascar's done that once before. Thompkin talk about this. He knows as well that that was a huge mistake and it took a long time to rectify that mistake and it was a big backlash. I don't think they would ever do that again. The powers that be or that are now running. The sport are much more tuned to what fans will want. so yes. i could see darlington. Not being the first playoff race by could still seeking being in the playoffs. So maybe the elimination race or something of that nature and that still would be an entertaining race on tom. I mean you. And i are both experienced that we know when they moved the race off labor day. And i think this is one of the biggest mistakes nascar has ever made was moving other five hundred labor day and trying to get the la market engaged and finally they have rectified. That because this is one of the great tradition to the sport. And i think if you have to sacrifice of being the first race of the playoffs if your goal is to shorten the season in by early october. That's what you're gonna have to do. I think the keeping darlington in the playoffs is essential. I mean it's a great track. You you know we we forget. Sometimes you want racing to be hard okay. You don't want it to be. You just put your foot down and never lift going around the entire track. It's hard racing at darlington. Guys wreck guys make mistakes. How many mistakes did we see. On pit road sunday night jordan. A lot loose tires people people Going too fast in there it is a place that forces you to really test your own limits and as such i think it makes for extremely compelling television. I mean i saw your your your pal and in my pal all our pals. Jeff klux Rankings this was one of the most popular races of the last ever. Ever since he's been doing the f. was a good race poll. So i mean yeah. Let's keep it in the playoffs and to echo. Tom's point you want challenging tracks. You want the playoffs to be challenging. You want it to be tough. You want drivers to be put in situations where they're in. It's not comfortable. You want them to be uncomfortable. And there's very few tracks that are uncomfortable. Like darlington darlington bristol and martinsville in the playoffs. To me is three outstanding driver tracks. It's not necessarily about aerodynamics. And in horsepower. Those those those things do matter but it comes down to driving ability of the day. You know a guy like corlett. Joy driving for a mid pack team can still drive his way into the top ten because that is a driver's racetrack. I always want darlington in the playoffs. We didn't have it before. I never wanted to leave. And the thing is. I mean you look at the schedule. Is we talk about it and to keep the schedule as it is with the southern five hundred starting the playoffs and goten weeks from there you know we had the two week break this summer for the the nbc wanted the two week break for the olympics. I wouldn't be opposed to having a two week break there every year which i know runs contrary to what you normally think tom. Because you're thinking okay we get in the stands in the summertime because it's easier for families to travel but at the same time i thought it was actually pretty successful. I think the cruise loved it because he said it's the first time i've had a chance to take a vacation with my family in forever. I think this is one of the best schedules we've ever had. Since i've i've been in the sport which is a pretty long time We have a really compelling miss mix of tracks this year. The road courses have added some excitement going back to road america. Going to coda for the first time which despite the rain was still pretty entertaining. And i you know everybody. I talked to like the sport of nascar's coming back. It's maybe not two thousand levels of popularity but it's on the rise again. People are excited. People talk about it at work. You know people you know my friends who are not in the business. Say wow i saw this race and it was really cool and now there's a buzz that there hasn't been in a long time and that's really exciting. I i would agree with that. There is a buzz and the television ratings are relatively stable attendant. Seems to be kind of an on the upswing a little bit and the addition of new tracks got rid of a big thing that a lot of people that issue with which was the schedule is very stagnant. Especially through the summer months we went to a lot of tracks some of them twice. That weren't very good work a very competitive. We got eliminated them either. Got rid of them down to one date and now you're going to road courses. You've you're getting more short tracks. Were going to add another short-track article speedway years nascar's working together at the national fairgrounds. You look at what they're doing with the scheduled. They're going to exciting tracks now. More exciting tracks. They're putting on big events. I think that the ingredients are there for nascar to really kind of. Have a a resurgence again. As just they need that. Catalyst that one seismic event. That kind of launches it up that next level. Like almost like a jeff gordon coming in in ninety in the early nineties. I don't know what that is. But i think the next gen car. You know what. maybe. I don't know. I mean we're seeing new owners to another thing too where we're longtime it was well. The same group of guys have only teams for forever. Where's the new blood coming in. Well look at. What's going on danny handling michael jordan. Matt colleague all these teams. Bj mcleod justin marks. That's that's great. You want new ideas you want fresh people coming in and saying what we try this. I like nascar's at lake the direction at that and i do think that the match just needs to be.

"Here's the thing bianchi however said yes for outside the circle but then he's thinking how you're thinking. Oh fuck again. He said nothing for the inside. Because you wouldn't feel it right right. That's failing because if he was under hypnosis he would have listened to the orders specifically and he would have said no for inside the circle. The whole point is you would have listened to the directors followed them perfectly. you wouldn't have created. I've never been under hypnosis. It was like fascinating to me. That's really interesting so obviously this doesn't prove that he doesn't have it. It proved that he is not he. He's not under hypnosis. Which intern pretty much shows that he's bullshitting. There are a lot of different things that.

Peter burns here on the paul finebaum show. What's up How you doing today. Thanks for taking my you. Gotta but Yeah you guys actually just kinda discussed when i was actually calling them about I was just gonna say how. I really think that this whole player endorsement could really benefit a university like vanderbilt. Just due to the location of the university and the wealthy alumni that come from the university itself. I could really see it. Actually benefiting school vanderbilt. I've had that. I do a monday through friday. Show with chris during over on sirius. Xm we do the morning show over there and we we discussed this and we got into a huge battle about this mike because you know during thought. Hey it's going to be the gainesville. The star feels a small places even lincoln nebraska where. You're the only game in town. And i was with you. I said well. What about what about nashville right. Like what about these hubs. Could they do it. And the more i started thinking about it is that i think it could be done. Big time in nashville. But you've got to have a coach or a swagger person around them to make it happen. You know what i'm saying. Like i'm trying to think of the best name i mean lane. Kiffin is that way on social media. But he's not really that way when you give them in front of donors or or or actually in public. We'll see that immediate days a lot of people are gonna be blown away thinking lane kiffin. The oh my gosh. She's going to be telling all these jokes at meetings he's not. He's really good at the keyboard on his phone. Live mike not so much. But how how do you have kind of a salesperson. Take that job in vanderbilt. Because i don't. I don't really necessarily see that. With clark li i think clark lee is a good fit for football. But i'm not sure if he unlocks that kind of next star level that that commodore football needs. And i mean what was your thoughts. I mean you sit there and van. Our vanities footprint has has he pierced through people paying attention to clark international early. You know. I mean he is a You know he wasn't the necessarily most exciting hire a personality. You know so far. But the one thing i think vanderbilt doing right so far is there kind of in my opinion following that northwestern footprint. Where what you're doing is you're getting. I think to be successful vanderbilt. You need an alumni so and who has some you know some some kind of loyalty university truly stick through with You know. I think there'd made into the great job on the recruiting trail. It all fell apart in the end. But you know he was a good personality for vanderbilt. Here's a fiery guy. And i think that is something lee has got to pick up on and i guess wins. You know if you build it. They will come. If you win games. They will come as well. We'll see if the name image and likeness helps it when it comes to recruiting also. Might we appreciate the phone. Call man thanks. Thank you for your phone calls coming up. Eight five five two four. "Well as paul finebaum show. But it's peter burns hosting today. Follow me on twitter at peter burns. Esp in were had a great first hour. Trevor albert's brand new director of athletics of over nebraska join me and was talking about Some of the different things he's got going and of course it's all about scheduling right. I forgot to ask him in. Twenty twenty seven. He's got an opening. Texas has an opening. I want a pair those two together. That's one of those college football matchups nebraska texas and the big twelve days. I'd like to see a one of these matchups that i'd like to see for a bevy. Different reasons is florida and ucf. Is it going to happen. Bianchi joining me for from the orlando sentinel. Mike is this. is it finally done. Is this deal on the. What does the half yard line as people like to call it. Now it's at the half your. It's at the half inch yard line is works at that. The half short don. Yeah that should be announced probably within the next few days. It's going to be a three-game series. I two games at the swamp one game at the bounce house in orlando and the first game. They're all spread out. Twenty twenty four is the first game the second games in twenty thirty and then the third game is in twenty thirty three i. I'll probably won't be alive to see the last two. But at least i'll get to see i. It's interesting on ninety six nine. The game we also host. Y'all had a tweet that was asking at you. Know golden knights fans. I mean how do they feel about it. If it is a two for one deal going to gains going to the swamp twice once in the bounce house how do you feel. Eighty percent of the fans liked the deal. So my question is what change from now. This deal getting done to you. Know your prior. Well i think the fans i. The fans have always wanted this game. They've always wanted to play florida. Ucf of course not and they sec not in a power five leagues. They've always sort of had the little brother syndrome. They want to play these big time. Opponents like florida and florida's the flagship university in the state of florida. So they've always wanted them play them. But when danny white arrived at ucf and ucf got really good when scott. Frost was the head coach and then josh hypol- and they had the back. The back unbeaten seasons. Danny white's reasoning was listen on par with some of these mid level power. Five what why should we have to play two for one like texas tech when our programs better than texas tax so he wanted to be elevated the hey if florida's gonna play colorado one for one. Why wouldn't they play. Ucf one for one. He's sort of backed himself into a corner there And there was the financial situation. He didn't wanna give up an extra home game because let's face it. Ucf makes most of their money from playing home games. They make three to five million dollars per home game. He didn't want to give up an extra home. Game to play florida on two for one base. You doesn't get the fifty million dollars. Sec network check like florida did so he he thought it was inequitable scheduling with that being said how much you think. That was a push from gust. Because i know. Gus is chomping at the bit. I talked to him after i got in the ucf job. And i was like you wanna play. You wanna play florida. yep you. I mean he. He's all in on this. I mean how much of that push in. Fill that momentum that he has there in orlando. Yeah and i. There will probably be you know if if if like an alabama or auburn or a michigan or house state or florida up big time opponents like that if they wanted to for one with ucf. I'm sure terry mohajer the new ad and malls on the new football coach. I'm sure they would be all and for that. But but i still don't think you're gonna see. Ucf playing the mid level power. Fives on a two for one basis. I still think like the georgia tech and the the north carolina's in schools like that. I i still think. Ucf is going to play those on one for one basis. But yes i think. Gus malzahn and terry mosher. The new ad have certainly changed. Ucs philosophy about playing big time. Marquee opponents on a two for one basis mike of the orlando sentinel ninety. Six nine the game in orlando joining burns here on the paul finebaum show mike forgotten. It's such an interesting kind of roller coaster ride. He had at auburn. It was fun as hell to watch. We'll put that. I'm not necessarily an almond fan but just watching it. It was must see television each and every week. What's his team going to look like that. He inherits from josh hypo. Who of course now is going to be over there and rocky top well offensively. It should be outstanding j. Every josh hypo with an outstanding offense of coach as well dilling gabreel one of the top quarterbacks in the country coming back i think pro. Football focus had him rated as the fourth-ranked quarterback in the country among all one hundred and thirty. Fps quarterback Ucf is loaded at receiver. They have all sorts of speed now. The deep i think. That's where gus malzahn gonna make the real defense even though he's an offensive guru by trade. Uc defense is going to be a lot better under. Gus malzahn Than it was under josh josh hypol- sort of let the defense go But man. I think gus malzahn is going to have a really good. I here at ucf. And i'll tell you what and he's even said this if we get to the twelve team playoff and it looks like that's going to happen. Ucf had every opportunity to to make the playoff more times than not because we're they're located The the advantages the resources they have the recruiting and the coach that they have. I think gus malzahn set up to make the playoffs. More at ucf. If it's a twelve team playoff then he made it. He would have been at auburn. An interesting With that being said is still a couple years removed or you know away from that possibly having is that one hundred percent but it probably pretty good opportunity of that is going to go down with that being said right here. Twenty twenty one. The best team in the state of florida is Oh i still think that. The gators even though cal. Trask is is well. I'm at miami. Would have an argument to but i still think it's the gators i. Dan mullen is a fabulous coach. I think he's a fabulous offensive coordinator. He's got a quarterback now even though cal. Trask broke all sorts of records last year. Emory jones quarterback. That really fits what dan mullen wants to do. More than kyle. Traff does on the offensive side and emory jones. Everybody talked about how patient cal. Trask was waiting his turn emory jones. He could have transferred many times lot of schools. One in the transfer. He waited his turn behind. Kyle traff and i. I think he's gonna have a great year. I think the gators The gary's are still the best team in the state but but ucf in miami right there knocking on the door. In my opinion it's interesting florida's still not even anywhere close in that conversation so that norville is gonna have to change a pretty quickly out there. In tallahassee mike bianchi orlando sentinel joining. Peterborough here on the paul finebaum. Show mike when you look at being in orlando kinda like how. Almost you know nashville. To a certain extent a big hub where colleges at right we've got vanderbilt their. Ucf is in orlando. How much being in a big city like that you think will help schools for nfl purposes as opposed to being the only game in town in fayetteville or starkville or.
Tulsa Changemakers and the Importance of Youth Voices
"We are very excited. Have andrew specter from tulsa chain vickers on the podcast today andrew. Hello jessie chris. Hello in what is definitely as i said earlier the longest from idea to recording a podcast part for good has ever done. We are very excited. Talk about change makers on on pot for good. so let's get the serve. The the basic questions. Out of the way where did the idea for tulsa makers come from tulsa change makers is really the product to to experiences that myself in jake learner cofounder change makers had when we first moved to tulsa through teacher america the first experience just feeling incredibly welcoming we got here just super invested in really connected as leaders right away in the community for me. I moved here from outside of charleston. South carolina originally from outside of boston. Jake from philly across the board to feel really welcomed invested in his leaders. I'm the second experience we had was going into classrooms. Obviously i you're teaching was challenging. But our students were blowing us away. Day my sixth graders. Abell elementary jake's fifth graders tulsa legacy charter school. Students were bright your socially minded leadership skills at rival adults that we knew and became really struck by the juxtaposition between our experiences as outsiders to also in the experiences of bianchi classrooms the insiders and what struck us. The most. Is that for me and jake. As outsiders and newcomers to tulsa we felt like we were being more invested in and more physician leaders in the community. The young people in our classrooms. That are actually better positioned up to drive positive impact in their schools and communities. And so the question. Jake and i started asking ourselves is woke me to position. The young people in our classrooms youngest ten years old and now for us as young as eight years old at your drive positive impact in their schools and communities right now and then in doing so prepared for alleged leadership in the future as well.

And the meats leads all over the table and rhode island four tortoise and then he watches speights and i think the siege miracles a kind of sadness exciting with some things like wine barrels. Not running out that kind of thing. That sounds quite good. The blooding meat on the table. And that's pretty rank guide. Probably yeah. I wanted to ask you about the artwork for the period. Very helpfully on your blog. Present a few different examples of some of the art that was produced. that shows. I think the scene of the virgin. Mary madonna del oliver. In leeann nasa the bianchi valid. In as as you've studied this textually you've gone to the sites to do your fieldwork as well. Was there anything that kind of struck you about the art that was being produced in this group about the art that represented this this particular religious expression. I think he's moved the content of the an entity necessarily to do with the phone. One thing about the form. That's really interesting is it stupid network of sts sy- particularly with paintings if the origin story an annoying his identity. That is really likely painters network essentially pasta. This cheat sheet of the story around those because these these paintings is so incredibly similar. This is incredibly likely so often in the individual artists straw says. Somebody's will beautiful than others. But it's very interesting we have not to be of this origin story narratives to the taipan three told adia and we also have this story. The madonna della diva to the disney television that hacker during possessions in cc. When this all over again is reproduced kind of innoc- seats. Feis them then. Further south throughout umbria. That's ya say kind of moving towards from assisi we also have this. Massive fresco invalid inada which is incredibly impressive. It's very difficult to get to but he can get to. But it's a wonderful example of by an intramural processions within the tumbles value narrow and then an itinerant possession and as he chunks pacemaking bleeding fixes and people are carrying am as a crucifixes lillies. All sorts of things is quite exciting. Yeah absolutely. I'm looking at it right now on your on your website. So i'm going to link to this page because it's really worth a look it gives you. It's a malone of people doing so many different things So detailed i guess what kind of struck me about all of these different figures. They are the right on the cusp of. What's going to be you know. Future changes to art and things like that but they're already showing this. You know the the changes in detail. The different perspectives and all that like little traces of it in there and that makes again a lot of sense with a network of artists theory. I think that makes a lot of sense in terms of dissemination at especially of a really popular and pertinent story for time. Yeah absolutely one of the key thing about miss network is the town of assisi is missing missing san which was built by this point that suggests that the person who created the kind of initial sketch was either making over an old map out about it. Interesting okay yeah. I've i've been to see. But i don't recall going into the even go into the bianchi. Judge took that one and you have to get out the cc and then have a very nice chat with a woman who met you cut on..

Things or ten each other. Like a pantomime or something. Essentially yes isn't fascinating recess. Yes interesting quite like that. You mentioned giovanni sir can be and he was one of the chroniclers that give a lot of the description about the bianchi. His my question is from your from your description. It was about forty chapters of description on things involved in the processions and probably like anecdotes about things happening on the processions and so on. So why do you think he put so much time into writing about this particular year this particular event any so interested in the outpouring of a popular religious expression. Like what what does it strike you as that. She succumbs clinically. This enormous thing starts eleven divided very much. The history of nuclear as town and see can be in the employee of the family so this is one of the big families in look at this point in time now. The good energy family win a coup. Very shortly after the gamekeeper's professions. Okay and in fact they use the plague and as a way to very much arrived am any kind of democracy. Going on in luca. When play captains most rich people flee to the countryside the gucci stayed. Yes a couple of some died but then very much consolidated their power at this set the stage for them to have a successful coup clever. And so i don't know why some companies invited quite much space to the yankee. I suppose he may be sort is exceptional. So all the chroniclers fight about to describe it as exceptional it's not exceptional and in the grand scheme of medieval religious movements is very similar to things like the children's crusade sheldon's say a such. "Of human cotton to kind of try to prevent this playing from happening by offering them way out soon again can recessions crisis very much kind of cross pun intended. That's a really great story. And i'm i'm tempted to use that interaction as the cover art for this because it sounds like it's just very attractive. It's quite funny in a way. The actual processions do replicate her advice. Quite closely from the little illustrations. You put on your website as well. There's everybody's shrouded their in the costume. The women have the red cross on the hedge men on the shoulders. What was involved in this percents liquids it just between luca story. Ah was it between all of the cities of tuscany. Like how far did you have to go. And what could you expect. Maybe as a pilgrim on this path soon as she thinks. I'd like to do to get from that question. Am yeah absolutely inviting gives out or these instructions in this narrative. So we didn't know if these nazis came off the procession start or if they actually preceded the processions described oh said if they were kind of created kind of nicely fit and tell the story kind of if people with baxter into what we doing so we know that they're allowed it to these songs praise and which told and this specific story which my stately did circulate is a way kind of spreading this narrative. Zippy probably have a clear sense of what being involved in the bianchi meant from people live in from elsewhere in narrative spreading so the divisions actually starts in genoa tram in an. It's eddie summer of nineteen ninety one and from there. They spread eastwards in direction of venice and allow intimates and south in the direction of written sur.
