"They do about oxo i think for democracy for sure and most importantly but also for the rest of the biden harris agenda over the next three years over the next seven years. It's imperative that this passes and john if we look back at a similar moment where democracy was really being tested in the mid sixties. John lewis had literally just been beaten within an inch of life. Crossing the edmund pettus bridge trying to get to montgomery from selma a week later a week later lyndon baines johnson is addressing a joint session of congress and the first thing he says he refers back to what john lewis has just done and he said look folks we have got to act and he says look you may think the poll tax in literacy tests apply to everyone equally. They don't if we're honest with ourselves and he was from texas understood the south in the former confederacy. These mechanisms designed to disenfranchise black voters. So we gotta do the right thing this. This is very much like this moment. Where in texas. There's talking about just standardizing the elections. Who can be against that. And we're gonna apply equally to to all voters. President biden understands. Exactly what is happening. He needs to call it out. Call the country together. Bring both chambers together and say. This is the most important thing that we can do together. Not as democrats not as republicans but as americans at this moment. This is our moment of truth. Let's not be found wanting so. I hope i hope that he will pursue that course yet is appreciate that. Joe biden and every democrat in washington has a joe mansion. Problem has a cure cinema problem. But i do think that it's time to serve both amp up the public pressure and privately. I hope they're all sort of putting a little pressure on those two senators in anyone else. Who still wavering. On the filibuster. Because i don't really see any other option here are agree. That that's that's that's the ballgame it seems like regardless of voting restrictions. Democrats will have to do a better job of of reaching voters where they are if we're going to turn texas blue. I saw that you said to ron brownstein. It was stupid for democrats to abandon person organizing because of the pandemic or entirely abandoned it because of the pandemic and i remember you being concerned about that. Last time we spoke on the pod. And you're you're going door to door. Do you think the end of the pandemic alone solves this problem in future elections or is there even more for democrats to do. Yeah i think there's more for democrats do certainly will see more democrats out there. And i mean i don't know the partisan makeup of the crowd that came together at the state capital in austin on saturday but it was the largest gathering during the entire legislative sessions so far which which says something and john there was a lot of there was a lot of energy. There was a lot of electricity. There are a lot of people making commitments to themselves that they were going to get out there become volunteer deputy registrars or get behind great candidates or go knock on their their neighbours door I think that's a great sign. But in addition to all that we've got to go to the places that are a little bit harder to reach might take two flights. If you're flying there might take a ten hour drive if you're driving. Which is about the distance from el paso laredo texas even further. I want to go down to two true south texas in rio grande valley. But if we're not at those voters doors and for not at those voters doors prepared to listen to them in spanish as well as an english and not show up by the way in two thousand twenty two and say hey remember. Early voting starts next week. I'm here to tell you where your report your polling places. We gotta be there now in twenty twenty one saying you. Just tell me what's most important in your life. And i'm here to listen and understand and i'd like to over the course of time. Connect you great candidates who represent the answers to the questions that you're asking the solutions to the problems that you posed when i showed up at. If we're not willing to do that work we will lose those parts of texas. Those parts of america if the great sin republican of the republican party is that they're trying to keep these folks from voting than our sin. Historically we have not shown up to give these folks a reason to vote. That's why you have such low voter turnout historically along the border. And it's why you have a real cause for concern in terms of how well trump performed in these communities in twenty twenty so we we as as good a job as democrats did in two thousand eighteen in texas for example in many other places. I i think we have to redouble our efforts and go even harder even bigger in these much tougher to reach places while at the same time not taking for granted houston and dallas and san antonio and el paso and austin we gotta show up there as as well and you got it got to be doing it now and so we have a group called powered by people that is working really hard on voter registration and early voting engagement and long deep canvassing conversations. Now and and we're doing in laredo. We're doing it along the border and it's tough it is really slow going and they're very often berry uncomfortable not easy conversations and you really get the sense that these places are in play for the first time in a while so we gotta work cut out for us but as long as we are on it now as long as we take inspiration in cue from say who fought and stacey abrams and Great decade.

"Are these really i. I mean for lack of a better word just insane sounding fringe conspiracy theories that we hear about we laughed. It used to be the sort of things of email forwards and now they're just kind of getting mainland to trump himself In into the halls of power in in some of these state governments is these are looking for bamboo fibers. Because there's a theory. I guess about china flying in ballots and they're also looking for watermarks on ballots abused. i guess. That's a cuban on conspiracy theory. But why would you try to bring fake ballots into an election and then watermark the fraudulent ones. You know what i mean. Look we'll just like yeah the bamboo. They're looking for bamboo drastic balance because they probably came from china. You know china when they make ballots fraudulent ballots and then ship them to the us. They always make them of i. I really liked this. Department of justice is worried about what's going on and said something about it in arizona. State senator threatened to imprison people from doj kept talking about it. And then you read these stories about what trump is up to mar-a-lago and he's reportedly completely obsessed with this specific effort gets updates multiple times a day. So you know there we go. I mean it is funny a lot because it's so crazy but there's also terrifying like you know one of the reasons the justice department has stepped in is because there is this plan to go to voters homes to verify that they had actually cast ballots. Can you imagine now. This crew of people who one of them was that the fucking insurrection. And they're gonna knock on people's homes and maricopa county to ask if you i mean this is just. It's really really dark shit. That's going on there. Yeah and also they're like okay. Let's say these guys found fraud which they won't 'cause there wasn't any they have no recourse. You know what. I mean like right. Yeah that's what we should let people know that. Yeah there's there's no nothing can happen. If they find front right all you can do is just the classic. We're just asking questions bit where you are continually undermining faith in elections in the united states and undermining voter confidence and like long-term. We don't really know how that cuts like. I think trump undermining faith in elections in georgia seems to have contributed to republicans. Losing in. georgia's you can see this going both ways but i think like a nihilistic view about democracy's not a good thing for anybody long-term no one of the one of the republican state senators who voted to subpoena. The ballots. Actually told the new york times this is making us look like idiots. It's an embarrassment to be a state senator. Those points that ratio thought about that before you fucking voted to hand over a bunch of ballots to cyber ninjas right so new york times reported this weekend they had a story about what the democrat strategy to sort of fight all of these voter suppression laws They said that the party is quote. Relying on broadly. worded warnings. An urgent please. That are designed in part to build political pressure on the white house congress and the justice department to act as well as to engage their supports to mobilize in advance of the twenty twenty. Two midterm elections talked. We'll hear that interview in a second about the what what can be done about texas now and you know. He said he's he's hopeful that now that the bills in committee and democrats have some leverage. Because there's been so much public pressure that they can sort of strip out even more of the worst provision they've already stripped out some of the provisions in the bill. A similar thing happened in georgia because of the pressure. So you get you know you do get some of these provisions either softened or taken out of this but overall like they're gonna pass there's a legal strategy and then there's hoping for hr one like what. What is that all we got. What do you think yeah. I mean we don't have a lot of great options because a lot of these states that are pushing these bills. republicans have total control of the legislature. In the governor's office so we can make noise about south. We can try to embarrass them. But you know it's hard to actually change the bill. The supreme court gutted the voting rights act back in two thousand thirteen so You know a bunch of states that had voter suppression histories used after pre-clear their voter law changes by the department of justice. Now that's not the case so now. These legal challenges are just like law by law case by case and that takes a lot of time and money and know the courts are stacked with with maga trump judges anyway so i think these protests are great. Good for bad for doing that. i think that pressure on corporations to take a stand against these bills have been important. Glad we're talking about it but ultimately we gotta get something through congress. There's the john. Lewis of voting rights act would restore parts of the voting rights. Act that we just talked about that. had been gutted again require that pre-clearance for changing their their voting laws Then there's hr wanted for people act which is much more expansive bill that would deal with gerrymandering campaign finance voting rights registration et cetera. But you know as we've said a billion times on the show to pass that to get rid. The filibuster mansion doesn't wanna do. That cinema wasn't wanna do that. So we'll see. I mean the s one the senate version of hr one getting marked up. I think on tuesday so they're going to be some changes made to it this week. Maybe we'll know more last week. From one was april thirtieth where he told a talk radio host that he would vote no on the original version of the bill as it exists today he said which of course it will be changed this week. So hopefully. there's some changes that may get his support He then said quote. The vote should be accessible. It should be secured and it should be fair and if states are subverting that then we should put on it. Do you count that as a hopeful. Joe manchin comment I i guess so. I don't know. I mean look like joe states ours. Subverting it happening. It's happening. that's look around. Yeah i mean right sometimes just like do you. Do you read the paper. Men like it's all happening right. Yes i don't know like hopefully just giving himself some flexibility But without getting the filibuster. It's hard to know what we can do. I will say that i get that. The biden administration is very focused on the american jobs. Plan in the american families. plan right. now you've gotta take one thing at a time. I know that schumer and all of them are sort of targeting. A floor fight on. Hr one in august right this summer. So i know. There's there's some time here but i kind of think it's it's it's time to turn up. Turn up the volume on this from the if you're the biden administration if you're congress like they gotta make a little more noise joe biden said you know a couple of hundred words about this lasts in his Joint session speech..

"To know that we had to get to a place and we need to be a place where we present this evidence and conduct this investigation to get to the heart of what should be accountability and transparency around the conduct and misconduct this president and that's where I'm focused but again you. He's you know he's concerned so there you are when he's a civilian again whether he is reelected or not. Do you think he should be prosecuted. Donald Trump. I think we need we'll get into that after we get him out of office and what about I wanNA move on very briefly to your call. You would like to see Justice Cavanaugh aw impeached for a lot of people were believed to be his truthfulness and his behavior during his confirmation hearing Do you believe that that is something that could happen. You know I'm glad you raised that joy. I mean first of all. Let me step back and realize how rapidly so many outrageous things things are happening that we're no longer talking about what we were talking about. just a cup mm-hmm. I think we've lost. The senators audio apologized to senator hairs. We've lost our audio very quickly. I WANNA reaction. We kept our panel here very quickly to go round onto your reaction mid win. I think what she said is is precisely what I had alluded to. When I spoke earlier with respect to we have to have a hearing we have to get it out to the American Public Blake and again when she asked those questions to attorney general bar the fact that he hemmed in hard and didn't have an answer we now know looking back that that was relevant yeah and on this question of Donald trump the senator seemed to have some hope she's. She seemed to be somewhat hopeful that some of her colleagues when they heard all the evidence would actually vote against Donald Trump as he was saying that you were not in your head. You don't think it's going to happen. We shall see how it all plays out but I'll tell you the politics of it is. She's very articulate. When when Senator Harris Ask a question. Let me make sure that she knows what the answer is. What it is to cross well in South Carolina. She's taking votes from Joe Biden and they have to be very careful how they handle job yeah and what this is going to do is this is this is going to be bad for Joe. Biden and it's going to be really good for for the rest of the candidates because you can't not have this mixed in with the politics of the day and that's what's going to happen when this impeachment can can. I bring it away from Joe Biden and bring it back back to the president of the United States and the fact that I think Senator Harris said the thing that we should all keep in mind when she said quote he already confirmed. The president trump has already said many times on twitter various presser veils that yes I did it. What was wrong with it. It was a beautiful call. It was a perfect call. Yes he's already but also I think it's important to to look at this. Donald trump is consistent. He confessed to asking Ukraine for assistance but but we already know from the report that he also was happy with getting help from Russia for Assistance Sixteen is consistent confessed on NBC news that he fired you because Russia is usually confessing instill in his mind getting away with it on Senator Harris again apologize for that audio problem toward the end but thank Hugh Senator Harris for joining us by phone apart mid when Charles Keeton Dawson before we go we want to congratulate. We didn't do the week this week but these guys won the week all of those who made the prestigious justice route one hundred list at the compilation of the most influential African Americans in the country..

"The credibility of the whistleblower the White House employees around them or they attack Hunter Biden and neither of those latter to speak to the facts that the president of the United States engages impeachable behavior but what what it is is a distraction and neither Democrats nor any of US across the country should fall for that false argument and go down that road because it's unnecessary the president's already confessed infest to impeachable behavior. Let's focus on that and move it through the house. I'M GONNA play to South Carolina. Senator is because I do have my friend here from South Carolina here. I WanNa play Lindsey Graham I which is element to and then I'm going to play element eight. which is Tim Scott so both here are the two senators from South Carolina talking about this very grave issue of national security? This whistleblower brought out. Let's play to the president in this call record says would you do us a favor he brings up debunked myth about the DNC server and then he brings up the Biden family and the need for an investigation. He repeatedly lays that out and also the aid packages mentioned. You have no problem with any of this. Zero problems with his phone with that sequencing are just told you. I have zero problems with his phone call. There is no quid pro. Quo perhaps the biggest loser in this entire process what we biden for president what he will have to explain the Democrats drag all this information into into the public forum is his relationship with Ukraine and his sons relationship with Ukraine the one point five billion dollars from China. They are making it very difficult. Nicole for their front runner to hold onto their lead in perhaps that's their strategy because they want someone far more liberal to come up against president trump. I think they are setting coming up a lose lose situation for the Democrat Party from my perspective. It's Democratic Party Mr Scott. I'm going to come back to you just for a second because this is these are your a two senators. I think a lot of people watch Lindsey Graham and they remember the guy who called trump an idiot and a racist and said that if the Republican party nominates him the party we'll be destroyed. We'll deserve to be destroyed and they watch that guy essentially become a sycophant donald trump and now we watch tim. Scott joined that and I think what people ask is. What leverage does Donald Trump have on these people does Russia have leveraged people wonder. What does the president or his international autocrat friends? What do they have on these guys that way this way. Oh I don't know what they have. Those two wonderful the United States senators both of them friends. Both of them elected. When I was chairman of the Party Tim Scott's speaking the truth. We have to step back and think when we look past what's going on on right now and let me let me tall as a political operative here and one who does public policy and government relations and what happens here is this is going to come and Ongo it is I've spoken with Newt Gingrich who really understands. What impeachment does we understand. What personally donning a president for beating the wrong party in his view it he does? That's what he did. He does and look at the cost. Nancy Pelosi didn't trot right up there to do this. She was forced to do this the politics behind this impeachment. We'll we'll hurt the Democratic Party and it will hurt Joe Biden. Tim Scott was right because let's talk about either base. That's not who elected. It's not the progressive as it's not the far right elect anybody they election primaries. That's what we've got. Democratic primary running here the general election voter is going to see this for what it is and I can't tell you how they're going to see it but I can tell you how they view view it now and they view it now is the potholes hadn't been fixed. Health insurance has not been lowered and a stalemate of hating Washington. Now the question will be at the ballot box. Do they hate Washington worse than they hate trump. That's what's going to be at the general election. Voters that went on paying attention to the primary voter is what it is and that's what everybody are you speaking to right now joey so the politics of this is very dangerous for the Democrat. Let me go to David Jolly on that. Do you agree with that because what well let me just say your Grantham aditorial comment. You tell me whether you agree. Here's why Newt Gingrich thanks impeachment a bad ideas because he's the one Republican who actually lost his job during the impeachment process. Ah says he and Bob Livingston the Republicans maintained control of the House on the eve of the impeachment. They won the popular vote for the Congress. They lost about two seats in two thousand they did exactly the same thing and they won the White House. There is not a political downside for Democrats for doing this but even giving you that even saying there is I would say this who cares about the politics politics of impeachment and stop with the deflections of arguing about Hunter Biden and the whistle blower and quid pro quo. Let's talk about a president who used abused the office so the presidency abused his power to leverage a foreign leader to investigate his opponent for the purpose of interfering with electors with voters in two thousand twenty election with giving voters in the United States misinformation about a political opponent that is impeachable behavior all the other arguments they might be swamped but their garbage the singular focus right now for this country and for the Congress should be on Donald Trump's impeachable behavior. Everything else is a deflection. I'M GONNA give Charlie's alas over. I I'm going to play you. A sound bite of my question is if you're in a strong position on your argument as a Republican. Is this the person that you put out on the Sunday shows to defend you. Here is one Stephen Miller. I think it's unfortunate that the media continues to describe this individual as a whistle blower and honorific the this individual most certainly does not deserve a partisan hit job does not make you a whistle-blower just because you go through the Whistle Blower Protection Act. I've worked in the government now the the federal government now for nearly three years. I know what the deep state looks like. I know the difference between a whistle blower and a deep state operative. This is a deep state operative pure and simple. If you read the seven page little see drew novel that the whistleblower put together it drips with condescension well putting aside the fact that everything about that young man is chilling the fact that he is their primary spokesperson on this the man who locks children and it seems to quite glee do so that's there guy on this well him and Giuliani are they putting out there eighteen on this charlie because they're in a good position or are they putting out these guys on the ones willing to do the job yeah. This is not a good work but I agree with David on. This strategy seems to be threefold denial distraction and intimidation no denying the nine. There's anything to watch you know try to about one hundred Biden or the Biden's by the way I would like to hear from Joe Biden more about this. I think he needs to push back a little bit more but that's sort of distraction and then of course horst this this intimidation this bullying of anyone else who might come forward and be a whistle blower. They're trying to discredit him but also they're trying. Who've you know send a signal to other people in the government. Don't you dare come forward. Don't you dare break this seal because we will attack you. We will demean you we will we will tweet about you etc so far when lease in the last week it hasn't been working but this playbook and again you're going to be seeing this over and over vern over again the. You Know The denial the distraction and the intimidation but but to the other point look no one knows how this will play out politically. I think that Congress I have no choice other than to pursue this because otherwise otherwise the president is above the law but we don't know politically how this is going to play out and really. That's not the point at the moment. Ah I wrote a column this morning that call these tactics mafioso like we shall see how this all plays in deed kitten Dawson David Jolly Charlie Sykes Republican and former Republican the panel. Thank you guys for being here today. Coming up presidential candidate and senator calmly join the conversation that is next has the president or anyone at the White House ever asked or suggested that you open an investigation of anyone yes or no please Sir president or anybody else seems. You'd remember something like that to be able to tell us but I'm trying to grapple with the words suggest I mean I mean there have been discussions of matters out there that they have not asked me to open investigation but perhaps they've suggested I. I don't know I wouldn't say suggests hinted. I Dunno inferred okay Senator Kamla Harrison epic aside. I seem to anticipate months ago that there was more to attorney general bars story something the rest of US learn definitively this week meanwhile. If Donald Trump is impeached over over the Ukraine scandal that has also pulled in Mr Bar the impeachment goes to the Senate for trial and Senator Harris would be one of trump's one hundred jurors deciding whether he is removed from office and join me now is presidential candidate Senator Comma Harris of California. Thank you so much senator for being here this morning great to be with you morning winning bank you good morning. I don't know whether you ever found out whether or not Mr bar a does understand the definition of the word suggested but you have you. We know a joy joy. He hinted that he surmise yeah this. The calling of synonyms was actually quite good on your part at the time when you were asking him those questions can we ask. Did you have a sense that he had actually called on or did you have evidence before you that you couldn't discuss the time that he had had actually begun an investigation into those who investigated the Russia Russia's attack on our election so at the time I asked him that question I enjoy I had a very clear sense of who donald trump is because remember even before that there was information that he had asked Jeff sessions to investigate the Clinton so I was I had a good sense of the character Donald Trump and what he is inclined and and willing to do in terms of making political requests of members of his cabinet including the head of the United States Department of Justice the Attorney General so that that was the that was really where I was coming from an asking that question because sadly if a question that needs to be asked of members of Donald Trump's cabinet because the rules just seem to not apply to Donald Trump's according to donald trump and that's why I asked the question I did and we know from Tom Bossert who served in the trump administration that he says that this whole conspiracy theory this crowd strike conspiracy theory that is related needed to the seth rich conspiracy theory that Donald Trump clearly believes because the I favor that he asked of the president of Ukraine was was that he wanted him to use his Justice Department to look into this conspiracy theory which of course would exonerate Russia. We now know that Donald Trump actually believes that conspiracy theory is well. Do you believe that there should now be hearings on whether or not Donald Trump actually attempted to use the Justice Department Mr Bar who was implicated in that to try to investigate a fake conspiracy theory that would exonerate Russia absolutely..

"You may not care about your place in history but if you have any concern for this country you have to step aside and if he doesn't isn't I am not confident as some people are that the Senate will simply disregard all of the facts who have talked to individual senators say that there are between twenty and thirty five who if it were a secret ballot would vote to get rid of this guy now it won't be a secret ballot but hopefully some of them will be patriots and not simply interested in their own re-election and their constituents may give them a signal the they may not be reelected if they go along with this dangerous criminal in public office. Let's talk about that. I want to talk about the process. I I'm going to skip the the house part just for now and focus on the Senate number one. You're saying that it cannot be secret. They can't we know that in the Senate they have voice votes where they simply simply voice vote by majority rule that can't be done with impeachment impeachment the rules of the Senate require that each individuals senator vote the way juror would but those rules can be changed by a majority and the majority leader is in charge so I wouldn't assume anything about what the rules of the Senate are going to be. We saw how McConnell basically paid no attention to Merrick Eric Garland. He's capable in this case too of trying to engineer a massive cover-up but so far he has said that he will follow those rules and and if he does then I think individual senators will have to stand up and be counted and even if they do not convict this president the president that will go down in history and we'll have to enter the twenty twenty election with an enormous eye on his forehead only the third president in the United States history to be actually impeached and impeached this time for violating his oath and the national final security by using foreign policy and military policy to benefit his reelection. He will therefore be ignominy. Asli defeated if he is not removed by the Senate and what I meant was. I'm sorry I misspoke unanimous consent because we did see that Mitch McConnell McConnell allowed a vote in what they call unanimous consent means that you just if no one objects than whatever the measure is just simply passes they did that with a unanimous unanimous consent decree that the entire whistleblower complaint be released right and so that really quickly before I let you go back to the house for just a moment just to re explain to folks. What's happening now in the inquiry? What is the difference between that inquiry an actual impeachment and how do you proceed from one to the other. Well impeachment is a thing when he is finally impeached. It's a vote that then either can go to the Senate for a trial or can be a conclusion by the house itself saying we find that the president is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors but that end result whatever form it takes has to be preceded by impeachment proceeding and impeachment inquiry..

"That's what I'm focused on and by the way there's some extraordinary people who are running for Senate in Texas right now including cluding Amanda Edwards and Christine Soon Ramirez. MJ Hager just to mention three extraordinary women any one of whom will be able to defeat John Cornyn and any one of whom would make an excellent US senator and lastly joy. If I'm the nominee not only can I win the thirty eight Electoral College votes in Texas which which will firmly and finally put Donald Trump away. If he's on the ballot in November twenty twenty I can also help whoever the nominee is against John Cornyn to ensure that they are successful in that race as well. It's going to help us all up and down the ballot from President to senator to every office below. This is the way that we bring bring this country together. This is the way that we defeat Donald Trump. This is the way that we win elections through Texas in this country now. Let's go back to Donald Trump and his administration. We know that in the case ace of Richard Nixon which is the closest analogue that we have at the situation we have now even though the Watergate break in it was an American operation. There were no foreign entities involved. I think that's a very important difference difference between this and then but in that case there were also crimes committed by the vice president of the United States and Spiro Agnew wound up resigning his office as well. Mike Pence the vice president of the United States took the meeting rather than Donald Trump went to Poland instead of Donald Trump. He's been intimately involved in everything that Donald trump his done and if not involved he has I think a lot of people say have been quite sycophantic toward Donald Trump and praised him no matter what he has done would in your view Vice Vice President Mike Pence be equally culpable in whatever donald trump is done and so if that is impeachable. What would you say about Mike Pence. Should he remain in his office yeah. I think that's a fair question and I think we need to make sure that there is a deliberate investigation of bring forward. All the facts make ensure that members of Congress are operating with the truth and that that is shared with the American people but you're also poses another one. Which is those around around Donald Trump. Do you want to go down with this ship. There is no limit on the number of people who can come forward to share information who are eligible all under the whistle blower statute to share information and make sure that we preserve this democracy and strengthen going forward or perhaps lose it forever for if they fail to come forward so. I'm convinced that there are enough people of good character who want to do the right thing. We're going to understand that their loyalty to America is is more important and greater than their loyalty to the president and they should come forward right now and share with the committees of jurisdiction in the House of Representatives the relevant information the data the facts to fill in any gaps that we have right now especially because we know that the White House and president trump are trying to cover up information Asian and the facts they have a history of obstructing justice not just now but in the investigation into what happened in two thousand sixteen trying to confound the Muller Investigation Investigation as Bob Muller pointed out he said lying to investigators obstructing justice strikes at the very heart of our ability to maintain this democracy. That's what President President trump is doing so. We are calling on those around him who want to do the right thing. Now is the moment to do it but let me play you. What former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton I had to say about. Donald Trump needs to be this Ukraine issue. Take a listen. He has turned American diplomacy into a cheap extortion racket. He has denigrated and let's be honest stabbed in the back career foreign service officers who serve bravely and selflessly explicitly no matter the politics of the administration that they are working under we now know the congressman that in August a month the the following following month after this now infamous phone call to the president of Ukraine the State Department investigators began to ramp up a reinvestigation of Secretary Very Clinton for this combination of what Secretary Clinton Calls extortion what has been called a shakedown by other democratic members and then the possibility ability that the administration is now also trying to use their power to go after a private citizen who has been vocally critical of them. Do you think that those are additional articles. That should be added to impeachment. Articles should donald trump be impeached by the house. I think it's something that the house should look at this president's. It's pursuit of his political rivals regardless of whether they pose any challenge or threat to this country fact trying to rewrite the laws after the fact to try to classify information that wasn't classified at the time to be able to pursue and perhaps chill those who have been critical of the president his rallies where they we demand to lock her up or in the case of women of color elected to the US House of Representatives to send her back. This is something that might have made sense in another time in another country in a dictatorship not in this democracy not in the United States of America so yes this. This is a very real challenge to this country and you know that what the president is doing when it comes to Secretary Clinton and those around him with the president is trying to do with former vice is president biden is to distract from president trump's crimes from his lying to investigators from the need for him to be held accountable and for justice else to be brought to bear on him. We cannot be distracted in the pursuit of justice so that's up to the House members to make sure that they are following these leads presenting the facts facts and then moving forward deliberately and decisively so that we can save this country and save our democracy. You're now majority of those who are running for president who are calling on impeach him or just going to put the list up there. It is a majority of those of you who are running but we also know that there are a lot of democratic sort of operative operative sort of out there in the background who are afraid of impeachment they worry that impeachment will muddle the message of the Democratic Party of the presidential candidates like yourself and make it more difficult old to win. A state like Texas that at least at the moment is a red state. What do you say to those. Who are nervous about impeachment just as a political matter? You know what I a read a comment that Nancy Pelosi made in Austin at the Texas Tribune Fest last night. I've never been more proud of her. She was asked about the political ramifications of impeachment and she said something to the effect of who cares our responsibility right now is to the constitution to this country to the generations of the future who are counting on us the people of two thousand nine hundred to do the right thing while we still have time to do the right thing. Put all other considerations aside have no fear be confident. Courageous do the right thing what we still have time to do the right thing. That's what history calls to do. That's what this country calls us to do. That's what this democracy calls us to do and I'm so grateful all that so many are stepping up to do this public sentiment the popular will will follow just do the right thing while you have time to do the right thing and congressman. I didn't WanNa hit you with a couple of breaking news stories. I just got handed to me by my producers. A couple of things just moments ago House intelligence chief chair Adam Schiff said just moments ago that he he is actually reached an agreement for the whistle blower to testify before Congress. When I get your reaction to that I think that's great news and we have the leader that we need in chairman Adam Schiff right now so deliberate so thoughtful so intelligent making sure that he's listening to everyone presenting accenting the facts ensuring that we do this the right way and his ability to get the testimony of the whistleblower is only going to improve the fidelity of this case and to make sure that we do the right thing that we are able to achieve justice when it comes to holding the president accountable for his crimes and I want to ask you one more thing and Tom Bossert who is a former aide to Donald trump. Has Now said publicly at the crowd strike. DNC Ukraine story which one might also call a conspiracy spiracy theory is completely false and has no validity. He says that he and others told trump that but that Rudy Giuliani continues to push it. What do you make make of the fact that Donald Trump continues to believe a conspiracy theory that essentially exonerates Russia in the attack on our election because he's being told told it by people like Rudy Giuliani authentically his lawyer trump is a master of distraction and that's what he's trying to do with this investigation in Ukraine around Hillary Clinton's emails or the two thousand sixteen election. He's trying to distract us from the fact that he said in in broad daylight Russia. If you're listening I hope that you can find Hillary Clinton's emails and that within hours Russian agents began to look for Hillary Clinton's emails else that on that stage when he was president in Finland standing next to Vladimir Putin he defended Putin instead of our intelligence community that he lied to investigators that he pressured shared others around him to lie to investigators that he is very clearly committed these crimes. He wants you to think about something else. Look the other way. We must stay focused. I if we're going to save this country and preserve our democracy or candidate for president twenty twenty. Thank you so much really appreciate your time this morning. Thank you joy. Thank you all right and coming up we will talk impeachment and some of these new breaking news stories with America's most foremost experts on impeachment. This is going to be good. Do not leave president professor professor Laurence tribe next once again. I want to remind you of the breaking news. We just got from the Sunday. Shows House Intel Chair Adam Schiff just said moments ago that he has reached an agreement for the whistle blower to testify before Congress and also so new this morning former trump. Tom Bassir has said the crowd strike. DNC Ukraine conspiracy theory story is completely false and has no validity city. He says that he and others have told trump that but that Rudy Giuliani continues to push it and joining me now as Laurence tribe. He's a professor of constitutional law at Harvard and the author of to end Presidency the power of impeachment and I got a little inside information that you might know a little little bit about Adam Shifts legal acumen professor tribe Utah Him. "We now know that the president must be impeached the best possible path especially if you're concerned learn about a country. That's never been more divided. Perhaps more highly polarized. Every day is for this president to resign twenty twenty. The presidential candidate better or has been calling for Donald Trump's impeachment long before the whistleblower complaint came out but this week he became the first candidate to call on trump to resign from office joining me now is twenty twenty presidential candidate and former Carson Bid Award Congressman. Thank you very much for being here the morning good morning so you have called on Donald Trump to resign. Is this specifically in your view over the national security threat presented by what the whistle blower revealed vis-a-vis has called to the president of Ukraine. This is about the national interest about making sure that a country has never been the more divided is able to come back together again and to heal it's about knowing the facts now beyond the shadow of doubt we have the reconstructed transcript or call whole notes from the call between President Trump and presence Alinsky of Ukraine from July. We have the whistle blowers accounts we have the understanding there are many around the president in the White House who are deeply concerned concerned enough to try to hide the transcripts of the call but also concerned enough to share that information mation with the whistle blower thinking about the precedent of President Nixon and in one thousand nine hundred seventy four Republican senators and those those closest to him making the case that impeachment was a certainty it was likely that he would be convicted in the Senate and for his best interests and the interests of the country the right thing for him to do was to step down in hindsight. That was the best decision for America looking forward. The best thing that we can do is for Donald Trump to step down no no. I don't expect him to make that decision of his own accord. That's why I think as a country. We need to call on those who are closest to him. Who still have some faith in this country want to do the right the thing for America to help him to make that decision. We know in the case of President Richard Nixon. His resignation was brought on by Republican members of Congress. Jason Republican senators going to him and saying you've lost support. You're going to lose if you get impeached. You will be convicted. Step down for the good of the country. Now we know that Richard Nixon had a far greater or knowledge of history and I would dare say even with all of his crimes sort of better sense of the national interest when it came to what the president's job is and so he did step down for his own dignity etc.. You know some Republicans pretty well. You know we'll hurt. WHO's stepping down congressman heard who's a Republican from nearby in Texas. Are there any Republicans Mr hurt it or anyone else who you can think of that would actually go to Donald Trump and say such a thing to him. I believe perhaps more in the constituents of these Republican Senators Republican members of Congress perhaps than I do in them and their constituents..

"Mentally. Ill people wanna harm others of themselves. Do you think we have too many guns in circulation and if you do how do we how do we get them out of circulation. Well shook. You know i believe in second amendment. I don't wanna take guns away from law abiding citizen. I want to focus on the people that have mental illness <hes>. That's mike that's my focus. Our word hats. None of them have anything to say about guns by the way in texas i think they passed the law that allows people to actually bring them intimately institutions. None of it makes any sense. You're blaming people who have mental illness people have depression and other mental illnesses. That's not why people are people have mental all of the world's leading. They're not massacring people all over the world what i wanted to just play video games video games all the world. They don't want to address your thoughts jason. I'm sorry i'm just talking utah. No i don't know several things so festival. Foremost i mean like unless they're about to qualify lesser about the american psychological association in accordance with the u._s. Government list. They're about the white nationalism and mental illness problem. I'll think anything's going to happen and that's not gonna happen plus because it would take a whole lot of people including people that we all know members of congress members of the government government would all be considered mentally ill so that that's the root of a lot of white privilege white nationalism to anger. It's rage. It's in cells. It's all these different kinds of things which is one of the reasons why background background checks and other things aren't really working because many of these angry white men these modern day m. and m.'s are basically ticking time bombs and they're simply going to use whatever excuses they can at the the time to shoot and strike back at a world didn't give them all the cookies that they thought they were supposed to get because of the color of their skin and because of their gender all of those things are clear but i also want to go back is really key point that you mentioned in earlier about what a president supposed to do and the fact that trump isn't even doing this for his base. I know trump supporters. I talked to some of them down here. Donald trump doesn't even provide mike comfort for his supporters. It's not just his policies. They don't expect him to make them feel good. We have had tons of presidents that i can remember in my lifetime. I can go back. I mean tiffany probably remember she's. He's too young but there was. This guy even reagan you know when he was talking about the challenger. I remember as a kid people who didn't like reagan like my parents were like okay. He said something nice bill clinton. People didn't trust him. He could speak the different kinds of things. George bush who i think was a terrible president. Occasionally sounded vaguely sincere in the face of tragedy this president president doesn't provide that emotional support for anybody and his supporters don't care because they feel so oppressed by a world of brown and queer people that hate them that they don't need a president president support them. They just need one. Who's going to strike back at those that they hate. Yeah i guess ban muslims build a wall. Get the brown people out. Make women have you. You know birds as many as as we want them to have they don't. They don't care and not mental illness like the guy who shot of people that do we ever recall it mental illness when when black people are this is ridiculous all gonna come back. We're going to everybody comeback. Tiffany cross doesn't care part jason johnson. Thank you very much actually no actually coming up my final thoughts final thoughts on gun violence arnaiz. The united states has the twenty eighth highest rate of cadets from gun violence in the world four point four three deaths per one hundred thousand people in two thousand seventeen the most recent year for which complete data is available according to the university of washington's institute for health metrics.

"Moms thematic action has been very effective took. Statewide level insane states to get done reform passed so there has been some women at the state level. Is it possible to move the democratic party. Writ large nationally to fixate on this to remove republicans from power who will not comply with the majority of americans. We have been working on this issue. Almost seven years in okay bye partisan way we passed stronger laws in twenty states in two thousand eighteen nine of which were signed by republican governors so much has happened since sandy hook and to say that nothing has happened is both cynical and dangerous. We are making huge progress. This is showing over and over again in polls to be the number one issue particularly for women as they go into twenty twenty nine thousand nine hundred thousand twenty elections. We've played defense at a federal level. The n._r._a. Should have passed their priority legislation with a republican president and republican congress and they couldn't and that's because the gun violence prevention movement has become so strong and we need every american to use their voice in votes and again. I would ask people to text the word checks six two six four four three three and tell your senator. We need action now. Elena is there. Is there a republican. It's going to lose because of the gun issue in in two thousand twenty republican. That's gonna lose yeah. Is there a republican you can name. That's gonna lose which mcconnell any of the tax now and the the pumpkins is short answer honestly answers no the guard no. I'm so federal guard yes because john hickenlooper is gonna win no matter what because he is. He's brilliant in his brilliant in the city was brilliant for estate but i don't know i actually don't know if the republicans are going to lose on this issue in less the democrats make this their primary issue and are reaching out to the voters who who are look who care about this and say say we are going to make this the basis for whether or not someone can stay in office for example. I y you know jen forward is a millennial survey of black and brown millennials primarily and after justice gun. Reform is the most important issue. If you want to reach out to the next generation of voters this is the issue that you are speaking onto and socially..

"To study mass shootings after the last or one of the previous massacres i guess after the one in walmart but he also has signed into law ten different pieces of legislation that as of today mean an apartment owner can't tell their tenant that they can't can't have that stockpile of a._r. Fifteen that they're keeping in their apartment. They can't say no to it. A business has to let people walk into their business with whatever war war weapon they want. They can't say no. If the person is ashley they didn't have to leave would have instead of leaving. They just pull a mass shooting. There's nothing they can do so i do wonder if even with the president's presidential candidates fixating on this if you wind up still with a calcified in our republican party that just maintained its obedience to the n._r._a. No matter what well yeah we they're similar laws that are happening down here in georgia right where you can take guns in churches now in texas yet in in bars right because you know drinking and guns go hand in hand but even worse look at these new texas laws are now allowed to keep guns in foster care and foster care you you can bring guns and sit in the parking lot of a high school with a gun and worse. The new pieces of legislation says if you take a gun into a place where guns are not allowed. You didn't know oh it protects you from prosecution. I mean that's how bad this is and if you look at mike conaway who was the member of congress he votes trump ninety eight percent of the time. He's not going to do anything about what what happened in odessa and these are his kids right. This is odessa. This is his district. He doesn't care i. I hate to be sort of anaylyst about this but i felt this way for a very very long long time. If dozens of white children can be murdered an elementary school and this congress and the senate does nothing about it. I don't think that was the end of the gun on debate. That was the end of the gun to be the only way this changes is if democrats and we saw beginning in two thousand eighteen democrats become as intense about gun issues as republicans are because right now you've got a situation where yes the vast majority of countries like yes. We should have commonsense gun reform but the people who want to keep their guns. That's the only thing they care about out and democrats have to operate in space where this is our single solitary issue. They've got to go on a crusade better orcas doing right now and say this needs to be the only thing we care care about only then only then when you see the kind of action not just in congress but congress basically saying we will stop everything. We'll do a government shutdown if the senate doesn't do something about there's unless that changes we won't see any changes. We will continue to see this kind of grotesque violence probably every other weekend until the election well shannon over to you then can that happen..

"We've got folks that are prepared to take on the gun lobby <hes> but we i need to get the our electoral map back yeah well. Let's those two of those candidates who aren't castro tiffany said this morning that he would be he he would be in favor of getting rid of the phil legislation the last place that you really have it since they got rid of it for judges in order to pass gun reform legislation and let me play better. They don't work for you because this is not what he's about and i said to him and i think it's true. I think it's obviously he cares more about this issue than cares about actually being he cares about this the most here he is from this it's morning. Is this what you're running on at this point. What else could i talk about right now. I think we've been constrained by polls and focus group tests and and fortunes in the next election put all that out of mind and just focus on those kids and families and our fellow americans who need us right now that is all that you need need to run a campaign the right way there is so much for democrats to run on but it sounds like one of them. Principal issues for two thousand twenty is going to be gun reform. It has to be and listen. Let me just put some the meat on this phone about what jonathan was talking about the n._r._a. Mitch mcconnell has gotten over a million dollars from the n._r._a. They've spent justice cycle over eight hundred thousand dollars trying to elect republicans. That's that's not including the tim million dollars. They spent on logging republicans to table bills the nine million dollars they spent on tv advertising and the four million dollars they spent on opposing democrats emma kratz. We have to remind people they do not represent gun owners. They represent gun manufacturers. You embarrassed gets when he was on your show. I think it was like last fear and you ask them. You represent florida. How many floridians are members of the n._r._a. He had some ridiculous number. You said no. It's actually not even a fraction of the number you said. This is what people i'll have to keep in mind. We heard about the profile of this shooter a white male shooter. That's a really big part of the problem because let me tell you when you go to these rallies and you see all these white people in fatigues not saying hey over my dead body. You'll never take my guns imagine if there were a bunch of black and brown people in fatigues holding up gun over my dead body. How quickly would we get these gun laws and the reason why we have these laws. They came about in the eighties because the black panthers or the seventies. I'm sorry the black panthers arm themselves and in the eighties ronald reagan reverse a lot of these gun laws because they were nervous that black and brown people were actually arming themselves so we have to also address these rules come about again under a system of white supremacy in violent white rule and this is why these kind of profile shooters go and they happened repeatedly imagine if it was an undocumented immigrant who did this more muslim or a black person. You can't tell me that this the president's timeline would be littered with how important gun rules are. We're never going to see that and i would say rashad robinson earlier this morning said said something. That's really important. Mitch mcconnell donald trump don't care about these kids getting shot because it's not their kids and it doesn't matter if they're black or white kids or latinos they've not their privileged children and that is part of the reason mitch mcconnell was on robocall talking about how democrats and barack obama one is still there two monster we lost twenty children and six educators and you know jason. The mayor of texas in two thousand fifteen was tweeting about how texas needs to catch up because they've fallen behind signed on being the place that sells the most guns greg abbott apparently had commissioned the study.

"I'm glad that you're here because i do wanna talk about the official democratic position on some of this stuff democrats have been making a big deal out of all the things they're doing in the house but still we're gonna talk about the house but let's say they pass has all of this stuff then what what does the party what is the party prepared to do politically to take advantage of the fact that for sure mitch mcconnell's obedience to the n._r._a. Will continue well. They already passed background checks and the senate can bring it up. The problem is that mitch mcconnell right now is donald trump's puppet and he's not gonna do anything unless donald trump says bring a bill to my desk and this is heartbreaking. I have an eleven month old and i was able to put my baby to bed last saint but there is a mom who couldn't because her eighteen month old was shot in the face and you were texan and i'm texan and and let me tell you a little bit. I heard <hes> garett talk a little bit about you know there isn't necessarily the political will for republicans to do something nationally and so they're banking on the state. Let me remind you today. September first texas has more lax gun laws you know and that means that you can now have them in schools. You know what that also means that means that there it was just a man in austin texas just which went unnoticed a few weeks ago he was in a park with air fifteen he had a warrant out for his arrest us and he was still able to buy a gun and so at some point you know what if texas lawmakers aren't going to do anything it is the president's responsibility to do something and you're you're right. Democrats will do something in the house but we can't get anything done without the american people speaking out calling mitch mcconnell calling their elected leaders calling these republicans and making it an electoral issue. That's why you have you know that door aurora who cash in a bunch of democrats right now making this electoral toro issue and we have a debate actually in texas just in a few weeks and i bet you that this will be a huge issue and all of those democrats on that stage will want to do something about highlight highly likely yes atlanta beverly also welcome to the show and i know you through the obama campaign that's right and so you know president obama had i think the most openly emotional reaction to a mass shooting that i've ever seen it was incredibly moving when the little kids at sandy hook were murdered and everyone thought surely surely now in this era when you have an actual compassionate president who was at the point weeping thinking of his own children..

"Justice here my reading right two hundred eighty purchases. We're just here. We'll discuss after the break tornado got. He gets out and start shooting there. <hes> my husband thought him start shooting at us and we <hes> we got onto the media and i my husband he's coming closer like we need to get off the like interstate so my husband got back on like on the right side of the media and we got off and we turned back to the on the service road coming back midland and he started again when he passed his and thankfully he didn't hit anything yet another mass shooting the the second in texas in less than a month. The death toll has now risen to seven with twenty others injured officials say the rampage started saturday during a traffic stop when the suspect shot shot a state trooper and fled the scene the shooter then went on a shooting spree in odessa and hijacked a postal truck that he used while shooting at civilians on the street. We say he may have used an a._r. Fifteen style rifle the suspect was killed during a gunfire exchange with police in the parking lot of a movie theater and officials officials say they still don't know a clear motive. We'll expect an update from the odessa. Police department later on today and joining me. Now is m._s._n._b._c. correspondent garrett. Hey who's live from edessa texas garrett. Hey joy. I'm standing in that movie theater parking lot of the distance over my shoulder you can see the mail truck that the suspect hijacked ended this sort of seen in here than this drama the last place where we know that shooting occurred here still no word from police or the city about who this suspect is or what his motive might have been we have only the the barest details about the suspect or the shooter in this case a white male in his thirties of course matches the profile of so many other shooters in so many of these other cases that we've all oh covered <hes> but the fact that this started with the traffic stop but i think any reporter anchor who uses the term routine traffic stop should be fine. You know police say all the time. There's no such thing as a routine traffic stop. That was the case here. Officers will approach this car and the man was apparently shooting out the back window at them. The first person shot in this case was a police peace officer. You then had this rambling shootout scenario down the highway between midland odessa. That again ended here with shootout with police now. We're several hundred miles from any major city here which means some of the assets that have been pledged to help in this investigation or just arriving we've got a._t._f. Agents who've been here on the scene this morning <hes> scouring this this scene here again the final shootout won multiple crime scenes up and down the highway between midland and odessa trying to put the pieces together. We're waiting on a news conference this afternoon. Then we're hoping right at noon here texas time with <hes> state and local officials including the governor about <hes> what we've learned specifically about this case and frankly what what we're learning in texas if anything that the state government here is going to do about these shootings remember after el paso the governor put a commission together to study these acts of mass ask shootings <hes> he's waiting on recommendations from them about steps that the state of texas could take <hes> in lieu of the federal government doing anything which you know we've come. The suspect is not something that's going to happen anytime in the near future garrett hake thank you very much really appreciate it. Thank you all right with with congressional. Democrats set to return turn to washington d._c. After labor day once again we as a country have an opportunity to actually do something about gun violence. "A harm to themselves or somebody else that they're not able to get a weapon but making these weapons more available to more people is not the answer and the good news is that the people of this country have had enough they are fed up up there are more and more even republicans moderate republicans but people in a lot of these swing states and in the suburbs that are going to be key to electing congressional representatives in the next term and they've had it and on the democratic side. What you see is that so many more democratic democratic politicians now are willing to speak out against the n._r._a. The n._r._a. has lost a lot of it's fear factor and in politics that's important and because they used to scare a lot of people against speaking out on the democratic side. I think that that's mostly gone and that's starting to creep over into the republican side for people that are in vulnerable districts. That's important so what i would say to people out there is even though you have not seen the fruits of this yet. Keep it up to moms demand action to the parkland students to every day people out there in our country who are pushing their their elected officials to do something on guns. Keep it up because the day is coming sooner rather than later when this legislation is going to happen the <hes> the house committee the democrats are gonna come back and consider a few different ideas banning high capacity magazines stopping high risk individuals from buying guns sopping having those convicted of hate crimes from owning firearms in your view. Can any of that passed the senate. Is any of that going to ever become law. Well look. I would be lying if i said that. I believe mitch mcconnell right now. As things stand is going to pass this legislation we can always push. I think they should push. They are gonna push. Perhaps on something like universal background checks. The problem is that you have a president now after parkland and after el paso in in dayton that has said he's for universal background checks and then he talks to the n._r._a. The basically have him in their pocket and changes his mind and i don't think the mitch mcconnell mcconnell is gonna do anything better than that but i believe that on january twentieth twenty twenty one at twelve or one p._m. That we're going to have a democratic president democratic house senate democratic senate and if i have to choose between sticking to a sixty vote filibuster rule this nowhere in the constitution and that mitch mcconnell title is very willing to violate now or getting commonsense gun safety legislation done with at a minimum fifty votes plus the vice president i would choose commonsense gun safety legislation and make our families safer in this country is what you're saying that you believe that if democrats win back the senate they you should end the filibuster for legislation so that gun reform safety which is incredibly popular ken paff absolutely yes. I do polls show that eighty nine ninety percent of americans. That's people of all stripes believe in commonsense gun safety legislation specifically universal background checks. I believe we did you do that in a number of other things that you mention julio castro presidential candidate thank you thank you very much really appreciate you being here to be with you. Thank you more after the break. Seven people and the gunman are dead after shooting odessa texas saturday four weeks to the day day after twenty. Two people were killed in el paso texas. "Two six six eight six six to subscribe he gets out and starts shooting at us <hes> my husband's concert shooting at us and we <hes> we got onto the median. We saw him coming closer. Oh sir and like i was looking in the mirror looking back and <hes> i could see him like loading up a gun and it looked like a long latin done that i saw and <hes> i thought my husband he's. He's coming closer like you. We need to get off like interstate so my husband got back on like on the right side of the media and we got off and we turn back to the on the service road coming back to maitland and again when he passes the shooting in odessa texas comes as congress prepares to return from recess when it will once again again have the opportunity to confront gun violence in fact the house judiciary committee had planned to come back from summer recess early and meet this wednesday to discuss laws proposed after the shootings in l. paso in dayton this month but it postponed it until next week because of hurricane dorian m._s._n._b._c. legal analyst glenn kirschner. We stop ali a former former e._p._a. Official who has also done work on reducing gun violence and gun reform advocate need jamali. Thank you all for being here starting to beat. You're at a disadvantage. I'm going to come to i because i know ended one of the things that you're involved in a new initiative to try to curb gun violence. Just describe what that is for us briefly very very quickly. We're a group called left of bang. Bang is a military term and look joy. What we feel very strongly is that if we're going to actually curb gun violence that we have to focus on solutions that start long before the first shot is fired and but we have a very simple proposal that focuses on three points the first is the idea that if you're going to be a firearm owner owner you should demonstrate some proficiency in the firearm applicable laws safe stores you should there should be firearm licensing the second thing. Is this idea that you know the loophole that if i buy a gun today and then i wanna give it to someone i can do so without actually registering that sale that transaction you know the idea that washington state has done that if if you sell or give a gun to someone you need to be able to go through a federally licensed firearm dealer so that is recorded that there's a background check and the last thing enjoy this can be done today with congress is there's an a._t._f. Tip line the f. a._t._f. Firearms we want to make sure that if people see something that they can say something we i believe the a._t._f. Tip line should be better funded so that there is a way that if you see something and you were concerned that there is a place to call and these are the three things that were very much focused on to try to not vowed gun problem. This was just a gun problem and there was no violence associated with it. We wouldn't be talking about it. We really want to focus on in practical ways to really curb gun violence and those are those are good solutions excellent ideas but glenn the challenge is what's happening is the opposite of that so texas is doing the opposite of that. What they're doing is these laws that are set to go into effect actually today include allowing people to carry in church them to go. This is the one that has floored me is saying that landlords cannot restrict their tenants from housing lots of guns inside their least apartments meaning the exact exact way a lot of shooters have carried guns to shoot up wall mortar shoot up they had in their place and so if you're renting many guns in there as you want the landlord can't stop even though it's is there property having guns in school being able to throw him in a trunk of your car in front of a school foster homes allowing foster homes to store guns and ammunition in.

I was driving extremely fast away from him and my i only thought was i had i had not not right. I not good good morning and welcome to a._m. Joy well. The state of texas is grappling with yet another mass shooting the second in less than a month. Five people were killed and twenty. One others were injured. After after officials say a gunman opened fire as he drove through the west texas cities of midland odessa officials say it happened in broad daylight after a traffic stop stop they say the gunman shot the state trooper who pulled him over fled the scene and at some point along the way stole a postal truck which he used to continue his rampage. Police eventually caught up with him in the parking. Lot of a movie theater exchanged fire and killed him. The gunman's motives are not yet clear officials. I'll say that he used a rifle to carry out this attack. The shooting took place just one day before nearly ten new gun laws go into effect in texas gun laws which are meant went to loosen restrictions for example starting today it's legal for licensed gun owners to carry and places of worship and to store weapons and ammunition in lot doc vehicles at public schools. It's clearly the opposite of what you would do if you want to actually reduce done violence and reactions to this evening state of national paralysis paralysis on gun violence have been swift from.
