"But that was that was kind of an annoyance of spaceflight lets you brought this point of hygiene and how there might be a different bio up there because I think people typically. Okay, space station, Stanley Kubrick like an IT's like super clean and sleek, and it's like an apple device. But the way you describe it a space station smells like a locker room. Basically well, the a lot of places the. When you work out at this for the most part of that for the most part, the station is. Metal and plastic in that kind of stuff that you're Jim Crow like your under armour, t shirts and stuff those things get pretty stinky after about a day or two although I did this one experiment for this wool infused fabric just think of an under armour t shirt only with wool in less polyester. And I was worried that it would just it would hate it. But Oh, my God that shirt was amazing. I worked out every day drenching wet just imagine going for a thirty minute running the Houston Humidity House wedding. You'd be. That's the way I got every single day in this shirt for every day for a month in it didn't Stang at all. It was amazing. I couldn't believe this technology. But the station itself it's not two thousand one Stanley. Kubrick. It's It is like you said, it is plastic in sterile materials, but there are so many wires, cables, laptops in boxes and cameras in. There's so much stuff there. The clutter factor is pretty high. If you're like a OCD need free, it's GonNa, make your head explode because there's a lot of stuff just everywhere. Well. Let's talk about a typical day. You mentioned you had two and a half hours a day allotted for exercise. The Count Wha-. What does your typical day look like? When did it start like? How do you manage time in space? When right you know you might experience multiple sunrises and sunsets So the sixteen of a day, you go around There Sixteen Times every twenty four hour period. So lots of sunrises and sunsets but. Basically, we had a Omega, X. Thirty Three Watch and it had like every feature. You could imagine it's the most it's the coolest watch and so we set that the GMT. So basically you know London time. And the day would start about seven thirty. In the morning we'd have a conference call with Houston and Moscow, and Japan, and Europe in Huntsville Alabama, which were the the payloads. The NASA science is done spill. Everybody they give us the debriefing and me go work and you work all day long couple hours of exercise. They normally give you an hour break at some point to check your email and eat lunch and whatever by the end of the day you're done around seven o'clock at night and you have another conference call everybody Houston Moscow tucked everybody on Earth, and then you're done, and then you could make dinner for me by the end of the day. I usually have three or four or five or ten little compact flash card from camera. So I would eat my dinner and then get to work downloading all those images that I'd taken. Maybe take a few more images had Picasso's our software that they had for us, and so you know I look over the images but was good found a good one I I emailed at a guy at NASA that did my twitter for me so I'd send them images and tell them what the tweet and and he would do you know he would log on and actually tweet it. So I would send him the tweets and he would mechanically. Tweet it and then I was always up super late Samantha and were both late night people. The are crewmates were all early morning kind of guys which actually worked out well, because they would lotta, times wake up early and get their exercise done early in that freed up the exercise equipment for us is because we were dowse and so and then do it again the next day usually got about six or seven hours of sleep a night. So by the weekend I was exhausted in Sundays I just didn't set an alarm and I'd sleep until. Noon or something like that. Catch up on my sleep and then get back to work on. Monday. Okay. You mentioned a lot of things that I think it'd be fun to talk about this is like the stuff that people want her about the outer space sea mentioned food. You had dinner I think when people think space food they think of for me I go back to elementary school like the tubes of like spaghetti in a in a tooth tuber astronaut ice cream I buy. It has that has it improved since the eighties. So astronaut ice cream for me was jerry's. So they have these freezers for biology experiments. So blood and urine saliva? And Rodents in plants in worms and all the different biology experiments we do be freeze them, send them back to Earth. So when they launched the freezers, they were empty and so they would fill them up with on one of the missions. They put some ice cream in there, which is super cool. So I got a picture of Chunky monkey floating in the middle of the lab. It's a great picture. So that the astronaut ice cream you get a decide center is not we don't have that for real most of the food if you're ever in the military, you see those little green bags of food they're called emory's we have the same thing. So basically Mres you rip it open and eat it can warming up if you want you don't have to its meat potatoes and soup and vegetables and desserts just ready to go the other type of food we have is dehydrated. So the food here in Houston and the ladies that work there will they cook all different kinds of meat and potatoes, VEGETABLES AND FRUITS IN DEHYDRATE THEM We stick in a new machine in Space Philip backup of water and weighed about ten minutes, and it turns into food and so. Are the two main types of food. There's also some just straight from the grocery store so they would send us some bonus stuff like little. Bags of olives, tuna fish or a candy a like chocolate. So. Beth, Turner was renamed the the support lady I had would send me lots of chocolate. So that's kind of food in at I would whenever I could I, would take my dinner warm it up put it in big ziplock and float down to the Russian segment where those guys were in have dinner with them because it's very easy for them to work on their modules we work on our modules and we. Never see each other and I really wanted to have one crew. So I made it a point to go down and spend as much as I could with with my Russian colleagues and that was the highlight of my time in space was hanging out with those guys we had..

"Your remember whens coming. I got a couple here. Good ones. 630 Remember when we were all shaken hands? Seems like so long ago, Doesn't it? Elbow bumps? I don't know. It's not doing it for me yet. I haven't done that. But also to 17 remember when we were hugging? Yeah. Not all that long ago but seems like forever ago. Keep him coming. 312981 72 100 will pick that up The remember whens coming up here this Friday afternoon and Janice to 22 talking too. Dr Nancy Ryan. She's with career vision and the subject. What we want to talk about here was job shadowing. It's much easier to do than internships and things like that which are official programs. Of course, this is a way to actually get a realistic view of what it's like to do that job and ask questions. I mean, you can even ask dumb questions when you're just job shadowing right towards the sound smart, right? And, you know, I wouldn't say to that. So many organizations are doing a great job on this front as it is the organization's colleges school, Um city. Kagome the job Shadow Day program that's really well established, and they're thoughtful. The National ground Hog job Shadow Day. If anyone were to look up some of those resources online, they would find great information. We also have a very good article called Look Before you leave job shadowing offers the realistic preview of careers that really breaks found like the nuts and bolts tactics of You know how Who Job shadows? What happened during the course of a job shadow? How do I find someone and it breaks it down for high school students, college students, um and again They're wonderful resource is that way. Professional associations and networks are and they're helpful tips about how to make the experience of successful one like researching the company in industry ahead of time, preparing a clear list of questions, you know, be prepared, you know, and you dress for success Arriving early following up with the thank you note from basic like that. Yeah, I just I think person foremost, it just makes you when you walk in the door and you spend the day with someone or several hours. Whatever the case may be, or do it virtually, if that's what you're comfortable with, you get a sense for whether or not you Khun see yourself in the job, and that's that's a feeling you'll never get from a textbook. I think of this daughter of family friend whose teachers recommended her to be a lawyer. She's off the charts. Her family was in trade. She didn't really know anybody was a lawyer ever. There wasn't one in her family, and she said, Yeah, that's for me. She spent a week in a law firm and cried and said, Get me out of here. I did not really like that kind of work. Sure, And you know, exactly, And it's not really until you see it first hand that you can get that sort of visceral response unit the way different than reading about a career on, say, The Occupational Outlook Handbook, which I highly advise, by the way is a great resource to look a duty paid training. Like if a person wanted to become like a nurse anaesthetist or something like that, um or a computer systems analyst they could goto Occupational Hollow. Campbell can plant out duties. Pay training and projected job outlook for the next decade or so is the crew of growing up in a quaint, but it's not really until you get into firsthand the environment in the milieu and start to meet the people that you know all the magical things that happen. I think, you know, the whole notion of modelling is the fourth of efficacy, information or confidence information. Like if you see somebody doing something, then you can kind of see yourself in their shoes or not. It could be a great like warning fun like Oh, I don't know if I want to continue down that path. We're in Beth Turner. And in fact, the quick aside, the junior achievement reports that 90% of students to participate in job shadow programs turn around and report a better understanding of the array of career options available within the area that they were looking at, and the host himself say that it's better help like 76% of them. They had helped them home leadership skills and many report and improved perception of their own job because somebody's interested in what we do. Sometimes we feel we can appreciate what we do a little bit more. It makes a lot of sense. Dr. Nancy Ryan, career vision dot org's is where you can find. There are a lot of resource is there you could check out the site and find more about this. Thanks for your time, Dr Nancy. My pleasure. Thank you for having me couple of the.

Pluck different things and put them together to create the packages -actly. Yeah. And we tested everything or selves as well. Because you know, sometimes things things that we didn't source at those shows we really just did through our own research. And just I mean, for example, you know, you would think of blanket would be the easiest thing in the world. They're kind of everywhere, but we had a really hard time. Finding kind of the ones that we thought worked for what we want in awfully. Months of figuring out what we what what worked. And so, you know, one of the things my mother always says, my Irish immigrant mother, she does not like giving fresh cut flowers to people because they're going to die.
