"Newsradio 1000 FM 97 7. Stay connected, stay informed. I'm Kelly Blyer and here's what's happening. The National Labor Relations Board is set to convene hearings tomorrow in Seattle over the union dispute between Starbucks and its employees nationwide. Northwest News Radio's John Bertini reports Starbucks has made no secret it doesn't want unions in its coffee shops. Mary Joyce Carlson is the attorney representing Starbucks Workers United. Firing store closings withholding of benefits, threats, coercion. In June the NLRB ruled Starbucks violated fair labor practices by telling employees they couldn't testify at hearings and couldn't talk about union activities at work. Starbucks initiated really a scorched earth. The list of complaints is long and ugly. There are 70 complaints that have been issued by the government against Starbucks. There are 200 in complaints these and 1150 violations of law. Starbucks stores across the US have voted to unionize but members argue the company has refused to bargain in good faith. Former CEO Howard Schultz defended himself and the coffee chain against allegations of union busting. These hearings are expected to last well into next year. John Lobertini, Northwest News Radio. Late this afternoon, Mae Jensen, a senior vice president, responded with a statement that reads in part Starbucks has approached bargaining with consistency and a sincere desire to progress negotiations for partners at every single store represented by a union. It goes on to say we're disappointed that the Workers United is more interested in disinformation campaigns and publicity stunts than bargaining contracts. Workers at the Seattle Center Starbucks store unanimously voted to unionize. Back in August, workers from the store inside the Seattle Center Armory, along those with at the store at Third and Madison, filed for petitions with the National Labor Relations Board to unionize. Starbucks Workers United said more than 350 stores in 41 states and the District of Columbia have now unionized. The FAA's preliminary report on the plane crash Friday on Lake Sammamish is now out. The report confirms the pilot who died was 80 year old Bellevue native Anthony Jerkin. Another person who was on board the plane is in serious condition. The report says the plane took a nose dive into the water and flipped when was it just about 50 feet in the air. The FAA and the NTSB say they will investigate the crash. Washington has the nation's second highest gas prices so State House Republicans have proposed a bill to refund carbon allowance auction money above the projected amount as a way to produce relief. The plan calls for checks of $100 for a single car and $200 for families with multiple cars with the hope the payments would eventually reach $250 per car. State Republican Party Chair Representative Jim Walsh. These are real people and they're feeling the pain of this bad policy and we're gonna do things to make their pain less bad. Governor Inslee's office sent Northwest News Radio a statement which says the governor is backing a proposed gas price transparency bill to hold oil companies accountable and a plan to link with the California and Quebec markets to lower auction prices and the costs passed on to you. Turning down offers of help would no longer be an option for people addicted to fentanyl and other drugs who also commit repeated crimes. Northwest News Radio's Ryan Harris tells us about the proposal. Marysville's plan is for mandatory 30, 60 or 90 day minimum jail sentences for repeat offenders depending on how many priors they have. Marysville's mayor John Naring tells me they know just locking people up only makes them bide their time until they can get out and back into the addiction says the real goal is to get people to a place they'll accept treatment. We have the ability our in jail to give them medically assisted treatment, get them detoxed a little bit in a right frame of mind, at which point our embedded social worker team can offer them a longer term treatment option. The ACLU of Washington has opposed this plan and I got a statement from them which says quote we cannot punish people into recovery. Incarceration disrupts people's lives impacting their employment, housing and ability to access resources all without addressing underlying issues such as addiction or poverty. Ryan Harris Northwest News Radio. Time to visit the Beacon Plumbing Sports Desk. It's Mariners baseball against the Athletics in Oakland tonight. Right now we're at the bottom of the fifth inning. "Week into the mail bag. Before we head off today, just a couple of bits of news. Obviously, Novak Djokovic, yet another milestone in his career. He continues to make history. He now has the record for the most weeks ever by either a man or a woman as world number one. So Steffi Graf already held that, but the November which has today surpassed her number of weeks, which is just ridiculous. This is his 378th week at number one, not consecutively, of course, but yeah, that's a hell of a lot. Trying to work out how many years that equates to my maths isn't good enough. Joel, what do you think about Novak Djokovic's most recent accomplishment? Do you think this is a big significant in terms of the overall context of the goat debate? Yeah, it's an amazing statistic, it's an amazing record. It's nothing new. I think to Djokovic, she's been lapping up records, I think, over all over his career, and it's one I think that shows his consistency in his ever presence at the top of the game. So from that perspective, it's a fantastic achievement. And I do think that when we, you know, when all is said and done, when we look at Djokovic and compare him to Nadal and Federer, yes, I think we're naturally going to be talking about trophies and grand slams and I think we're going to be overweighting and comparing them on those levels. And I think maybe for the tennis purists, they're going to care a little bit more about weeks at the number one in terms of the ranking. Personally, for me, I'm still a bit more like I will measure the success on the trophies he wins as opposed to weeks at the top of the ranking, but it's still I think nothing to be sniffed at and it just shows how impressive it is, particularly I think given the era that he has been. I always think it's so hard to compare like for like time at the top of rankings because so many eras are very different to each other in terms of the players and the depth, but certainly the era he is in. I feel like that has potentially elevated this achievement, but I'm still like grand Sam's still for me is the de facto thing to judge Federer Nadal Djokovic on. And talking of Roger Federer actually from one goat contender to another. Roger Federer was spotted at Wimbledon last week. It was very exciting. And there's been a bit of speculation about the possibility of him potentially getting involved in Wimbledon this year. Perhaps as a I don't know, a commentator or a pundit, Chris, what do you make of this speculation? Do you think he would be a good addition to the BBC Wimbledon coverage this year? I mean, I think he certainly got the credentials for it. I think there are a few people with do you think? I'm not so sure. A couple less slams out there that have been doing commentary. So he definitely would know his stuff. I think it would be great to get his take. I wouldn't necessarily want him for every match. I'd like him to be used a bit like John macro in the sense that we get him for the semifinals and maybe the final is that just think, you know, he is such a legend of the game. He almost feels obviously he's tennis royalty. I just don't want to say him out there. Commentating on the qualities or anything like that, you know I want him to stick to the marquee matches. But here's a big fan of tennis. I'll be watching anyway. I imagine. Maybe this is just a way for him to stay closer to the action. It could add a new level or layer to the goat or the big three debate I feel. Imagine you just know the broadcasters like get me Roger Federer commentating on Novak Djokovic match. And I would be fascinated to see I would be fascinated to see how that turns out. I think it's really nice when you have recently retired players because they had a much more like what it was like to play them, you know? Yeah, they've got so much more direct experience of those players and facing them and then someone who retired 50 years ago. I mean, I prefer to listen to the more recently retired players. I personally think they're more engaging for the current audience, perhaps. So I think it'd be great. I'm all for Roger Federer getting involved. And I think he'll just miss it otherwise. I think he wants to get involved in some way. Maybe he could replace Sue Barker. Maybe he could just host the whole Fortnite. She missed the replacement. Let's have a look though. You know, that's a long way off, but let's look at what's happening this week on tour. We've got 500 events out in Acapulco and Dubai for the men. Also, we've got an event in Chile on the clay of the golden swing. We've also got hardcourt tournaments in Austin, Texas, where Sloane Stephens is hoping not to get double bagels. And we've got the Monterey open for the WTA as well. What are you most looking forward to? Obviously Joel, you were looking for malachi playing in his final tournament, but he's sadly lost already. So is there something else you're looking for to now? Now that he's finished. Yeah, I mean, of course, we've just spoken about Novak Djokovic or great to see him back on the tour in Dubai, really tough field, I think. He's got Medvedev in his half Greek spore as well. He's been playing great her cash. So I think that's going to be quite a tough test for him to get to the final, so I'm interested to see how he gets on. And also Acapulco, I love this. I know I didn't even realize this. Mateo bertini's brother, yes, Mateo bertini has a brother who I had no idea about. I'm probably saying this wrong, jacopo bertini came through as a qualifier. Sounds like you've made this up. So it really does. It sounds too good to be true. But came through qualifying ranked, I think in around the 8 50s or 8 60s. And yeah, he's playing Oscar otter, I think, in the first round in Acapulco. So yeah, bear a tini brothers on tour. So he must have got a wild. Love it. Surely then. Yeah. I think he did actually. At some point. I'm going to have a look at the Ben Shelton holger room a match that they're doubles partners, I believe, in Indian Wells. Clearly they get along so that would be quite an intriguing affair. I think my money is on that going through. Yes. And who knows, will Carlos alcaraz take to the court as well, because we don't know yet if he's playing or not. If his injury is going to be too much. So we'll see if that happens. And Chris, you said to me, I know you said that was almost too good to be true about bertini and he's got a brother. We've got to say emirati Carney's not playing Austin Texas because she's got tonsillitis of all things. When I did see that headline, I thought someone had made something up on Twitter as a bit of a tennis Twitter joke. Because I've never seen anyone pull up for tonsillitis. It's quite specific. It's a viral illness or something. So I look forward to seeing that at the bottom of the draw sheet. It might say it, I'll have a check. Emira cardi. A bit of both. Well, we wish her a speedy recovery. And yeah, obviously me and her have the same Instagram strategy later grams. But yeah, let's see how she gets on. Let's hope she's back to business soon.

"Download. Tennis dot com. And let's move on to the men's side of drill because had a couple of results today and some from yesterday to discuss. Let's have a look at what we've seen safe today. We've had sashes zverev winning through against janik center in straight-sets six four six four seven six. They smashed kind of just had like regulation six. Four sets retinal labor until cut a bad game. that third-set was probably would have said shit. Senate will be annoyed with himself. He really should push that to four and then it could may be a bit more interesting but again ashiq. Another example of severe mental game really improving the season the fact that he was able to slam the door. yes yes. I think. Cinema hat opportunities wet. He would have expected to make them. But at the same time phys verify you shut that down and get it done in three sets not an easy opponent very impressive from him absolutely you know he said after the match you know that that was over dodgy gave me through it and You know managed to save the set points at center at and get get the job donovan in straight-sets because i she said if you're going on into a fourth well he knows they would've been embroiled. You could have got on longer but yeah gemini speaking. It was a high level kind of performance from from zverev. Bit weighed in the pace. Much press conference beat at every talking about how he'd won obviously the olympic gold and he made a comment about the. He sleeps with his gold medal because he doesn't have go friend and oversee in light of the allegations that have been going round. It just was a little over it. It would hit yet. We have an old thing to say The best thing to say yeah. We'll leave that's a we that i think But yes i mean the loss and they played a slam center. Had actually in a beaten variable are that was. When's variables was ill last year. The french but Yeah i think this was the result. This i pretty much expected. But we've say today had running a poker against loyd harris and fill that one was pretty even via poker and his pink back at his peak bag yet which came onto score again day. He was not gonna let that pink bag. Go funnily enough today. I think it had on approved a written on the side of it so i take no if he'd like written on himself because it gallery. Yeah exactly i just became a big talking point on social media She's quite off but it didn't didn't do the magic power because he did lease in four sets to to lloyd harris. He's he's quickly kind of becoming quite thing he's had some good wins hair. He's going to be upset. I always the top thirty in the world. So he's radi putting together a very impressive tournament yeah. He has been very very very very good discipline particularly his serving. I mean it his match against palca a he won ninety two percent Of points on his serve and he was having it. Seventy six percent say it sort of reminds me of the dub biz. Bertini was it was starting out What is the school season He's he's just playing one match time and is just being very very smoothly and is very impressive from him if who we call him early because of that win against the dow in in washington. Dc and east carrying on threes usa and now into the quarter-finals. It's very very good. I'm not racial where it's gonna lead him to of whether he could get to the the who knows but it was one of those matches day whereas a fan you kind of it like are they going to be eddie extended rallies these matches. 'cause we die lloyd. Harris likes to finish his finish points at the net and so does palca to be fat. Swim so you know it was maybe not one. Maybe for the the the the fans who enjoy may be a bit of point construction an extended rallies but certainly for loyd harris to get done in four sets over a palca not only only take into one tiebreak actually that that was very very impressive so you must be returning serve very well as well as a pocket didn't didn't seem to have Much answer for much answer. Very after that i yeah i saw a stat which Which say harasses. I think the seventh player who actually out aced a poker in a march along the likes of he people are is ner and medvedeva. He is he is he coming. Riches record well. I mean perhaps yeah. I mean that's going to be some beatty. I think he's quite they're just able to do more than palca was quite something he was. He has a. But i'm yeah we've go osco also against mataya bertini on at the moment as we're recording auto three love up in the second set But i haven't really been watching this avidly as we've been recording by off scouter falling over the net in the second game which was quite an interesting to say but yet we've got jovic tacoma's well against an edge and brooks bay but last night we had a match. I really wasn't sure. Which way gay. Because i thought it was again. Pretty pretty even on paper and that was francis. Tefa against phoenix oj. Elliot's seem and in the end. That was a full set win for faa from a set down four six exchange seven. Six six four so he has reached. Upper quarterfinal You know he reached the wimbledon final. And now he's reached the gold frano's hair he's actually the youngest man to have done that since dope poultry to reach back back grandson called finals over he is still a very young things about twenty s and he still say We feel like he's been around for years. It's just he through quite quite young. Well yeah and also. It's it's since since his partnership with uncle to- From the rap it's it's is really reaping rewards. Now isn't it we. It wasn't it wasn't necessarily a an instant instant fakes but certainly given the time that they have spent. They openly gelling really well together on its particularly working well at the slams and fact that he's into the quarterfinals is is very very good because this was a match. I think you know maybe a few seasons the guy particularly that third-set tie-break. I think this is much. He he may be would have lost against In front front of boisterous crowd. That third-set tie-break. It really did hang on that and he was able to come through. A six was very very impressive and he was able to kind of carry through. Because i do sometimes think whether he steps onto call a knows knows what he's doing like we know he's got his talent but does he do what to do with it and i think that's uncle. Tony has added to his game. He's he's telling him right now. You've got talent. This is what i want you to do. And i think that's what helped him against as well i think it helped him against A cfo who has had a very good run here. I think he gave a very good account of himself and again. I think it will be a realization to him again. He he can be one of those players who can reach the quarterfinals potentially Of a grand slam isn't far away from in this match. And i think it will give him good motivation in the future..

"Does the thing that i wanna expecting Yeah and somebody's not plight before Brooks be has quite a different game. I think to a lot of players you. He's got a quite unique style. I could see him causing some problems. Could i think novak djokovic to win but brooks game and he's got something about him and as you said with the crowd behind him as well that does feel like another little tricky match for yokich. Mid-october teeny one today in five sets over elliott. If ashgar someone stopped of action the sentence. I thought it took quite an effort to stop. The vascular took an awful lot of cheering italian chef. That is the most speaking of crowds. The most vociferous tennis supported the has ever been. And i thought he was just a matteo. Bertini movie is isn't he. Well he was. He was also yanic sinner versus gambling on so he. He's clearly just an italian tennis supporter because he was going he was given it. Big ones center. Well maybe that was just on his way out in Yeah the the the crab nuts bertini on on the ground son really great atmosphere out there. Another one of those that sort of as the stunt. Some starting to set on a on a perfect new day on grandson. The crowd going wild suddenly. There's loads of people that seem to know who ilizarov ashqar is maybe funds the tennis podcast but it was really good fun. Amitai bertini in in italian off. The of the much gave a really really great line sort of showed off his fangs. Almost didn't he. He said he said. Let me Let me get the translation. Richard sherman rico. Maria riva on on twitter. I feel like i belong in the various method of team sits of past group and i think they know it i love how gee i really do I've found it quite hard to place. Bertini a little bit sang's wise fangs wise but also just wear he sort of ranks in the pecking order as part of that group or is he just outside and yes. I realized quick not forgotten about him but wasn't thinking about him going into the usa. He's not played much since wimbledon but he he wasn't my thoughts really a tool no. I'm whereas he very much was throwing wimbledon. Yeah yeah and he's reached the last grand slam final so He absolutely should be in that category. I think Bertini will face in the next round oscar officer. Yes who wins the celebration contest for the day he gave. He gave good scenes on court number seventeen today. He beats thirty seven year old. Andreas seppi say somehow will score. Also winning is a victory for the movement. He he's matz azlan corruptive. He's he's much new as land corruptive. That's how we selling in folks. Well i mean. There are similarities in terms of a guy who has spent quite a number of years grinding away and suddenly has studied having a result at a slam and is vented people's consciousness and gone in colorado of attention and he's not quite a sudden as as lanker at that. Was you know really out of the blue. He has actually built to this as he won. The first two sets against wrong guarantee he played mario wimbledon and that was five sets. But yeah i mean. He saved match points in two qualifying matches this tournament. Very nearly didn't even make it into the main draw quite a kind draw. Once he got into the main draw he i think is best. Win was probably lorenzo songo. Who's got quite a bit about him and ceppi's obviously a good good win and yet he ends two hundred sixty five thousand. Us dollars for this. I mean that is completely life-changing third qualifier into the men's around a sixteen. Which i think is the most ever least for a long time. Gonna confidently invade. It's the very least. It's the most for a very long time yanic sinner one today with the help. Monsieur italian chef. Monsieur is not italian french a know spanish don don show with don italian chef in support camp. He won six four in the fifth over. Gamma face he was not quite cruising. I don't think against moore face type. I set seven six six to think he was a breakup. Inner in the third a ross. It was oh going swimming and then will face made about more face by the looks of things started conducting proceedings and made it for everybody but yannick center wonderful. Yeah totally at some messages today. From some tennis podcast listeners. Who were there and one of them was planning to head out to another call and just didn't because gamma face started being gamble fees. Someone had been supporting gamma face but never seen him play live and just it was every bit as good as expected it to be. I think the crowd were Ninety percent from face in that stadium. You know i mean that. Had nothing against yanic center at all but they were swept up by what he was doing he was. It was all of down in in the full set memphis. You know after after dropping the third sinner had really quite coldly regained control of it. Having yeah let it slip in the third and face road off six games in a row in the fourth set and the crowd was just. The noise was unbelievable. And louis armstrong stadium and then rio credit to senator actually a getting it together again and being really resilient in that fifth set i think facinia. He showed quite a lot of emotion. You know when he dropped the fourth say banged the side of the cool in frustration. And yeah. I was impressed with his with his resilience to be able to overcome what morpheus was during and the crowd and the level of tennis was fantastic. Really athletic rallies. Lots of great shotmaking from both of them just another one to add to the list of excellent excellent matches this. us open sinner. Now awaits the winner of first. Tonight's yet to be played much between alexander's of inject sock which we expect to be verified but sought carries a to one head to head into that verbs serving starts incidentally Head of that much for the tournament. Say for all fish. And he hasn't even faced a break point yet it's yes fearsome stuff They're all three other say. Say to other men's matches yet to be completed. When is an upset. Northern upset shop of all of his losing to lloyd harris the way to go to stu just set down role in the second and riley poker set setup on nichols bash. Philly as we come to you ashburn. Thirty is now set a peace and a break-up in the third so let's take you through the of the women's marches that we've had today starting with not only a straight-sets win and risky but one that only took her an hour and seven minutes as literally sort of less than a third of the length of several of the matches that she's played this year one and two have agreement in which i know is a decent draw playing lucky loser but given the the two years. She's had and the fact that who's been able to make meals of if pretty much anything i think. That's a very big result for her actually's big for her to be into the second week slam this slam. She still never lost it. The us open yet ten. And no and. I think it was the performance. She's been aiming towards really. I mean i think she's she spoken very. Interestingly about trying to simplify her game and trying to be more efficient on the cold and this sort of performance just embodied that change in mindset and look something needed to change for rescue..

"I listened to making my fertile today. Sam better than it was to watch. I mean look. That's nothing against jokes. Which one in straight-sets but even he didn't play that well and he did. He did enough struck me just how challenging. It is for him to find a reason on the spot to get inspired and two there was no threat martin future which did not put him under any real pressure at any point in that match even though he got it relatively close in the in the one set but made a respectable in the first when he was five down. But he's just he didn't have anything to hurt jackovitch what he's like. Not as good version of novak chuck rich rarely the way he plays careful. He's measured. he's a good player. He deserved his place in the quarter-finals. But you could see how flat yerkovich was. And he's having to try to manage this match when when there's no real threat to his future unless he capitulates I think jackovitch will get way better at some point in this tournament friday. Yeah i think. Friday could be quite tents for him. I think it could. I think that could be a bit of a tense. When i think he'll still win. But i think the crowd and all the rest of it could get him tense but then i think he will find a way and then a suspect in the final. You'll see the real hip. So are we expecting jackovitch bertini final. I think i probably am yes But i would need to look up the head to head her catch bertini if they've played before whether there's anything to go on there that does feel pretty close. Generally i felt bertini from the start of the tournament. But i didn't know that we were going to get her. Catch plane linus. That's we talked about the four sets in a row. He's he's a real threat to to anybody except chocolates and he may even be against chocolate. But yeah. I don't think if he plays where beretania love who who john jumping ahead. I'm guilty of doing it again. Who would jovovich as she me. Be chiappa valve rather face in the fine. Because i do think bertini you think okay has the weapons to hurt jackovitch. But he also has the weaknesses that djokovic can hone in on an exploit. I think her catch. Maybe has a bit more bit more. Well rounded than bertini fuel holes to to aim at and i. i can't think of them playing other than wimbledon where a couple of years ago a hook did get set of djokovic. Twos of seven five and six seven two sets In not in bear which is credited without set so Yeah i think there is quite a strong case. Actually that Jovic withdraw the face bertini in terms of game styles. You could possibly be. The bertini might deal with the occasion better but her catches a masters one thousand winner. He don't with facing federal center coot today like it was like it was a breeze disruptors. Because he doesn't get talked about very much bit lack severe cannon. Oh someone hopes up every now and then doesn't mean he's just there. Oh look he's. Just beaten stiffness. It's about just beaten down a method that i think overall just bertini's built up self belief with all of these winds is makes him the favourite for that match and the bigger threat to jackovitch in the final so those two semi finals. The men semi finals will be played on friday tomorrow. Thursday we have the women's semifinals. They start at one thirty on center court and we begin. Bit of a surprise is order. Play preps bec- with the australian audiences in mind. We begin with ashburn. Thirty against angelique. Kerber the guaranteed surefire humdinger of a match. Look we need one. I must say this. I'm not sure i'm not sure. I think i always used to think that was or is your elliot's seems game. And he said. I think when he came through there. A lot of comparisons with djokovic. Virginia the more we've got to known as a player the more we realized. Actually he's really aggressive like this in particular. The thing that's got him here is to be hugely aggressive. Not that he can't rally but see can destroy tennis exactly. That's an interesting point. I hadn't hadn't about the matchup could not really in just a bit. I try and be consistent. I mean put bertini serve is a bigger weapon than usually seems pretty much anybody else in the drawer. The full hundred pretty cool. Bertini probably has a few extra most proud building. A huge weapons back cans phoenix. Probably probably has. It doesn't have as much. Burr teens really developed the slice. But i know. I think thing that could be quite tight tiebreaks. Yeah yeah. "A while. we're having him enough credit. He is the supreme talent. It's true to finish. Top of current hatano plays sebastian. Cuarto at this point. It seems that the american men finally have a player who could be ready to break through into the truly upper. Echelons of the men's game yet mean he is. Us number one right now. He knocked out. Alex demon our who has been playing well on grass. He beat dan evans on center court in front of the english crowd. I mean if it's not him for the. Us who is it could have been francis. They could have been with a deep run here. This we wanted the so much to be a big breakthrough moment for him as daniel matt video of is at the podium right now while coming back from two sets to love against marin chile which is one of those like jovic comeback from two sets love dome because the opponent was tillage. You kind of felt ones medvedyev started to come back and got the lead in the third set that it was somewhat inevitable. Yeah i am I'm kind of a closet chile fan. I really like him. And i felt that he kind of had. This one wasn't at all surprised that he went up two sets to love. But i mean this is also kind of his wont sometimes matteo bear teen. Are we done with quarter a. He will face that guy from germany who teller fritz today roger federer he is come through the section looking a lot better than i thought he would a. Yeah yeah yeah. Cam nori has had a great year and this was not an easy customer for a third round. Federer's through. I mean it's almost like roger kind of walked off the street and remembered who he was because his lead up was not that great like he wasn't feeling good he lost felix. He was pissed off. He was angry and i. She felt like that was a good sign that he wasn't dissatisfied with felix is great. It's fine no. He was actually mad fetters. Also rhythm player part of the reason why people talk about him as being such a beautiful player to watch his because of his rhythm and flow. It's more that that's the key for him. you know. And so like. Once that clicks on it can progress rather quickly Which is why. I think for some people federal matches at wimbledon. When he's rolling are kind of boring because it feels so routine like he's going to hold serve easily they're going to be low drama service games. It's like he's playing on muscle memory which is a great job.

It's funny the public likes of more than the numbers. Do the public likes gotham More than the numbers do rebekah. I think is properly ranked in the top ten bottom half of the top ten but she belongs there. Pless cova at six point nine percent in the wimbledon forecast that's a testament to her pedigree obviously Her being at twenty to one odds feels about right. And then i mean whoever wins between newborn muga larussa tomorrow should be top five because that player can very well beat arena sap. Lincoln is probably the favorite to emerge out of the bottom half. Those are your women's odds on the men's side. Jovic still a prohibitive favorite minus one ninety fifty two point one percent chance to win the event according to the tennis abstract forecast after him the forecast and the odds differ now medvedev plus five fifty bertini plus nine hundred federal. Plus eleven hundred. Those are your same top four as the forecast it just goes federal. Ten point eight bertini ten point six medvedev eight point four after that. Big dip in the forecast oddsmakers halves vir of in that bertini federer a tier of players. He's fourteen to one odds after that. There's a drop off much like there is in the forecast for the odds. It goes rhubarb. Twenty eight to one marine. Faa forty two one and then chiappa vol of curious and rb fifty to one. Those are not happening. Odds in the forecast rube left three point nine percent zero three point to chile. Faa one point six. Rb one point five evans one point three percent joke which is to lose that's the takeaway anyone who's watched tennis unfold. Not just at this event. But let's be honest here on this twenty twenty one season until we have a new data point until we see a fantastic bertini performance. I think we got it today from medvedev in his straight-set win over alcatraz. But still not to the level where you're like. Hey could he beat novak djokovic need to see a little bit more out of them as their competition level raises the level competition races in this event. Certainly we will see them tested. "He's able to get together at roland. Garros it was. It was eight resolve. Reminded me actually if the situation tables in a fill in a pre cut of cre- long hours in the sense that you know he had a good lead up and maybe run gas was going to inspire him to take him further into the competition oversea. Unfortunately it didn't work out for team. But i certainly think it did for jd. Schwartzman getting the quarterfinals. Pretty much doing the best he can do. And you know he did he did take self nadal and he stopped mcdowell's thirty six set winning streak He also i think stopped his thirty eight set would extract a few seasons ago as well So yeah he definitely does. He definitely does relish the the competition and facing one of the greatest of all time opposite him it. You don't get the sense that it it really is. There's no sort of fear factor. There really is no. I feel like they get on well and i mean schwarzen- think yeah he doesn't fair. I think he relishes a sense as well and he's just seasons like a very nice blake. Justin he schwartzman so even as rafael. When he was he's up against schwartzman was playing. Very well you know. it's. It's not. I i did. How the phrase it. But yeah i feel like he's a friendly i if that makes sense yeah is now into his says she faced grand slam semifinal. I think As it would be his fourteen grand slam point semi final at roland garros. Oversea hasn't lost one. A in his previous but gots may well change come. Friday when novak djokovic unless berrettini stages the most unlikely comeback When novak djokovic is down the other end i mean. Let's just talk a bit about the novak bertini match as being quite regulation after. Say six three six two and they supposed to behave you so feel like is this the best bertini can can do because either he was being made to look very very ordinary and he has clinched the said satire break. But i still feel like that's the best is going to get but you know i may be wrong. Maybe wrong. I worked so i did go to. The formbook and djokovic was very much to the extractor. i think of bertini's. I think quite obvious. Weaknesses against the the big three particularly yes. He's a massive forehand and the crowd. Absolutely love it when he hits a winner from it but that still some deficiencies that particularly on the backhand side. I think it has. I think has improved kind of this season but certainly not as strong. I think as it needs to be if he has kind of serious ambitions. I think being a mainstay in the in the top ten or even pushing The top five The question i had was whether he could bring out a particular sets. I didn't see much of the bertini. Sliced back single handed backhand and i thought that would finish short there. Are you know if i was facing jock. Rich on a clay-court thin could potentially what quite well. I think we saw with don evans was gave david's by where you know he was really kinda focusing on that Single-handed slice giving jackovitch no pace and i wondered whether bertini could have employed that bit more than those fast two sets. He liked to go to the drop. Show quite a bit and i always i always take. It's never could side guide to the drop shot in like set one it just to says to be the comforted in gaito of the bay side with your opinion So i think that's certainly things he can walk on. We'll have to wait and see the the outcome of the match. But i think djokovic was looking very much in dominating in an imperious form tons of his serve on his return. I mean in that second set Bertini one only twenty two percent of points on his second serve so you must have picked up in the third but those first two sets it does suggests a little bit like nadal and not force against schwartzman. He's definitely coming to the boil at the right time. Yeah jovovich proving. Why he's the the best return in the game. And i mean whereas data evans when when you need him. She beat benko andrey in in the first round Nine seven in the third on kind of a similar story really she. She had to save breakpoints. I guess seventy eight in a seven in that much. She saw them and then managed to close out craze out the weight and so she was sort of very much towards the end of the match. She was in a not in the ascendancy. Shall we say and similar thing happened index matt. She was bright points down and he so of today's breaks it like surely surely she's but Sedans it was able to save them. "Welcome to new challenges remaining I am. Ben Rothenberg I'm lead on this show to be joined by Patrick Moore. The founder of the Motagua Academy coach of Serena Williams and more recently, the creator of the ultimate tennis showdown UTSA, which is one of the events springing up during this crooner virus stoppage that continues on the tours, so Patrick is here to talk about his new ups products, but also a couple other things large more largely in the sport in general to talk about emotion, antennas change in tennis room for growth in tennis as well as some of the more recent news around proposals around the US Open where limit players only having one entourage member with them onsite per player, and also how his charged Serena Williams is handling this stoppage in tour. Among other things hope you enjoy this. I've wanted to have patrick on for a long time so I'm glad to get him today here. He is help you enjoy. Very said V joined here by Patrick more talk to talk about the ultimate tennis showdown ups which you've started up. Thanks for being here for civil and I'm curious. Just this idea you had for. UTSA is this something that you had an idea for before? Or is this purely been sort of a Brainchild of this of the stop time on on tour. is both. I've been thinking about it for a long time because I aware that the average age of the fan of tennis is getting older where at sixty one years old now and it's getting older every year so. This sense, quite a lot of messages to us the first mets. A message is that. The core fans of tennis have very loyal to tennis. The started to love is probably in the seventies and eighties steel here for two years old fifty years afterwards shows that. Tennis is very addictive. It's it's a great sport, so we keep our fence, but it says also that we're not renewing our fund base so we not getting New People on board especially not. Not many young people so I thought that Dennis needed something else I'm not saying that. The ATP W have to change and the. Grand Slam something. He's great also to tradition I think they're also doing a good job at. Making their fence happy because they're still here for fifty years after, but I think it's important also to get New People on board to To to to grow the fan base of tennis, and especially to to renew its so I think for that. We need a second second league. That is more modern. That is different that proposes A. Product you can do. It doesn't sound good for sport, but it is a product because it's. Not Product a product that. That is more that. Faster more dynamic, more interactive, more modern. And that's what's better. The younger generations already interested in marketing for that can see you guys having a lot of fun with this or just taking it I want to say less seriously, but you know the the the nicknames for players that come out like. The Greek God and you know we the French flair and Matteo. Bertini the hammer like these are not things that you would have seen Wimbledon do. Had this been normal tour year right now and so I. I guess I'm curious. You're somebody who I think you know from seeing your. Thoughts on different things and you're somebody who gets thanks tennis should be. Has Room to be a lot looser, right? A lot less tied to tradition into being serious all the time potentially Zephyr. Yes but I'm a tennis fan since four years old. I gave everything I had for tennis and an often is also the way it is. So I understand that the core fans don't want change. I think steal the could be some slight changes, but. But. Basically I like tennis. The way it is is just that We don't take ourselves seriously. We WanNA. Have Fun we WANNA. Enjoy won't for me. sports is has to be all these. It has to be fun. It has to be emotional. It has to be interactive and especially in our world in twenty twenty, the will change so much and the way consumers. Watch sports and video in general. Has Changed so much in the last years I think it's important to propose a different way to Turkistan is for that reason. If we want to get you, get you offense on board. That's the only way and we have to consider also that the offer is so much bigger than what he what it used to be. The is now you have so many different sports. You have gaming. Older Serres. There are so many different. Options, so if your product is slow complicated or you need to invest three hours, minimum or two and a half hours. You have no chance to get the young people so I. Think it's very complimentary. I think both leaks can really live will next to each other and feed each other. Actually

Patrick Mouratoglou on Ultimate Tennis Showdown

"Everyone John Wartime here this week. Sports illustrated tennis podcast. Our guest is Patrick Barada. Blue is a tennis entrepreneur healed. And Namesake Academy you probably know him best as coach up Serena Williams and Coco Golf he a commentator. He's also the commissioner of the UPS. WHAT DOES UPS? Is the ultimate tennis showdown, which is What are these unsanctioned events occurring during covid? This event is happening June thirteenth through July twelfth at the more Talk Academy on the French Riviera. Players include deficits poss-. Matteo Bertini David Gafa been pair Richard Gasquet so This is another one of these events that's going on while there are new tour events, so we talk with Patrick ups, but also a bit about tennis in twenty twenty. He made some news this week when he talked about. How tennis needs an overhaul. How the? The audience is getting older and we talk about some of the possibilities in plans there. He was We recorded this full disclosure on Wednesday day before apparently, there was a press conference. He was a little bit coy about revealing the specifics of ups, but it does sound like he's going to unveil some of these innovations that that he talked about an in baked herbs so This is a good conversation we agree on some things disagree on others, but think you'll enjoy the next half hour so. So. Here's here's Patrick. Where are you? How are you? Might I get him in south France and I'm good. I'm very busy because we use that. down periods to. Be as creative as possible. Let's talk about that. You also you. You look like you got a haircut. Did yesterday. You have a good eye. Eric Good. You're the lucky ones. So you have. A big week ahead of you. We were talking actually on tennis channel just an hour ago about about. UTSA and some of the players that are going to be in the field. What what's the objectives I mean? It's the players need to play in. Events need to happen. What why do this? I do this because I feel that tennis needs to reinvent itself I know when I said it sounds a bit too much, but I explain explain why. The tennis founded getting older. The Fan base is getting older nothing against people that at a certain point, any fan base has to be renewed. If it's not renewed. People are getting older and older. At some point. It's not gonNa work anymore and when you're busy. Sixty one years old and get one year older every year. You have to start to worry and try to find solutions, so I tried to understand why we were in this situation. I realized that I level. People feel that it was better before that's. That's what I hear every day, and you probably hear the same by the way people tell me this everyday simple. Better before okay, so I ask why because we had better personalities before hand I think I think that it's not true I think we have great personalities in tennis but I think they don't dare anymore expressing their emotions and expressing who they are, it's It's It's all about being politically correct all the time, so it's not very fun for the for new fans, not very appealing. And we get real lot of diversity diverse, still game styles university with the young players, very young women being in Grand Slam finals that we don't have anymore because of rules, all this is because the rules that have been been put in place rules to prevent young players to reach the final grand slams rules. Due To intentional or not, but we destroyed and get rid of the servant players for example he says because of rules also I mean. The uniformization of the surfaces and the code of conduct which is rules also that get rid of the diversity of this person is is on court. And the percents very polished now. And I think it affects the show. The Game of tennis is incredible show of tennis I think is. Very old fashioned. and. Goal is to bring the best from the best. And also to be more modern in the way to showcase is taking into consideration how people consume videos and sports and anything actually today. The the American cliche is that there's a lot to unpack there To! What extent are you differentiating between? When when the ball is in play in when it's not because I'm looking out there and I'm seeing. I saw a sixteen year old that I will call her a girl, and not a woman I saw sixteen year old girl. Addressing a crowd about an issue having nothing to do with tennis and I see a thirty nine year old. Man is is going to get knee surgery, but continue playing in twenty twenty one and I see a much more racially diverse and nationally diverse sport than than I did twenty years ago. I push back on some of that, but I I think your your point when the balls in play. I think is a much different situation. I mean when when do you think we lost? When did we lose these fans? I think so first of all I think the game is extremely slow. I think tennis matches a marathon. You have to sit down and have a almost for the next three hours if not more. And to ask fifteen or twenty or even twenty five or thirty years old good, this is not going to happen. So! That's a big problem.

Djokovic thrashes Berrettini in ATP Finals opener

"We've got now. The two winners of the of the two group matches because earlier today Novak Djokovic was upset at emphatic. Take Against Matteo Bertini. The story of this match is that quite similarly to Roberts against law. It was two games all and Nice competitive in the first is having a meeting with somebody who who works and BBC TV and he said Oh. I was really worried in the first two games. This crisp just going to be a really quick match. Because you know there's one level of thirty comments as low as well and suddenly it was too all we're both sitting there thinking us quite good. This isn't it anyway at a little Chitchat and a half an hour. Later it was six to four love and and Djokovic just took him to the cleaners what happened in for those that saw the match. What why was this? So one-sided six two six one against Matab Bertini protein who aside from playing against Roger Federer at Wimbledon has been competitive against everybody to Bari Matz Analysis which I now apply a version of every single match that I watch thirteen. He played shots. He didn't play points and I felt like he played a lot of shots were irritating. They didn't turn out to be winners he did the thing that even ID David hitting one sort of decent is short and being irritated that it comes back number against chocolate country in the Fed Cup. You know Dan Dan stand there and Admi- shots which yeah I'm definitely guilty of that even very good until I hit the tree. Yes then you feel differently joke which is very good. Yeah I think it was one of those performances where to get such a discrepancy in the scoreline. You clearly needed one of the place to be brilliant and one of them to be wet off the game. I mean one of the more alarming stats I've ever seen about Bertini was that if you include double-faults he hit as many unforced errors. Is he one points in the match. Which is I'm not account remember really seeing stat line that before? That's really bad. Had it was really bad wasn't an he. He was so bamboozled by the experience that he forgot where the exit to the court wasn't some war on and that was again that was one of those really.
