Downpour kills at least 36 in Brazil, cities cancel Carnival

"Mudslides have barreled through homes in north São Paulo state, while some annual carnival festivities have had to be canceled. Biden Blames Gas Station Owners for High Prices at the Pump

"He goes on to, I love this. Cut number two. To the company's running gas stations and setting those prices at the pump. This is a time of war. Global peril, Ukraine, these are not normal times. Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you are paying for the product. Let's stop right there. It's the gas station owner's fault. He's not she's not supposed to make any money. They all company had not supposed to make any money. The price of oil in a worldwide market is driven by the supply, and the demand. People want to use gasoline. They want to go places. I'm in the way north. You got to drive, I'm up in Maine. That's where I am. I'm in Maine. And if you want to go anywhere in Maine, add an hour. I've learned that at an hour. And I've got great people that help me build this studio. Thank you, Ben. Thank you, Nick. Thank you, Troy. Thank everyone. Generalissimo came up here and got this thing done. And to get here, you can't get here from there. That's an old Yankee stain. Bert and I went out to Muskegon farm. And we were asked how to get to the winter first studio. You can't get there from here. The only bad thing about being here is Red Sox fans, New England Patriots fans and Celtics fans.

Reflecting on the Recent Georgia State Elections

"This week, I just sort of wanted to spend some time to take a few episodes in this one being one. To just catch up on some issues that we may not have had a lot of time with. And doing so, the first thing I want to catch up with is this week is election week here in Georgia, Alabama, you had Arkansas, some have called it the SEC primary. That happened. And we just coming off the results in Georgia and I'll tell you what was struck out to me the first and foremost is the power of the incumbency. And also, frankly, the power of people, it looks like to warm move on from the election of 2020. And as one of the issues that has came up in Georgia, you saw the governor Brian Kemp, you saw the attorney general Chris Carr, you saw Secretary of State Brad raffensperger, John King, whose insurance commissioner all win without a runoff. In fact, last night, it looks like there's is coming along these timing. You may not have a statewide runoff in Georgia. The last one out there is still lingering a little bit and by the time the podcast is out, probably will in the next few hours we will have the results that Bert Jones may have avoided a run off there. Why is this significant? It's significant in the sense that it shows you what we talk about with chip like the other day. We talked about a politics. Politics is fundamentals. Politics comes down to a lot. It is important. Donald Trump's endorsement is still one of the most powerful endorsements in the Republican primaries and in these races going forward. We've seen that in Ohio. We've seen it in Pennsylvania. What we had not seen in Georgia was the power of the incumbency, which we did not have in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and some of these

"Lights come down from up top. I mean, look how good my fucking jawline looks on my face. You know, this is how I have to look all the time. You see that? Yeah. And then insane. You've been looking better in pictures recently. I told you that. But the bubble picture, I think you look good thanks to lurch. We all look good in the pressure. Holy shit, you are enormous. That's a bad photo. The lean in, my guts out, that's a bad stomach at like that. I don't know, man, but it's like am I that fat? Do you suck it? Do you not do the suck it? I know, I don't do it no, dude or photos. It's like this is me. But yeah, you gotta you gotta suck it in. Yeah, you're saying like, oh, it's a picture. This is actually who I am. Nope. Every picture that goes on the Internet these days is not who the actual person is. Yeah, no, yeah. Well, for me like saying, why do you even smile for the photo then if it's just a because I'm generally a happy guy? So that's consistent, but. Yeah, but do you just walk around like this? Pretty much. All the time. It does do that actually. Pretty much do that. I'm always amazed and I know we've gone over this a million times with the way lurch looks and pictures. But I am a bigger guy. I am. Right. I'm a Midwest like broad shouldered big belly, whatever. I'm a bigger guy, but whenever I'm standing next to you in pictures, I look like a regular sized human being in that baby. Yeah, and that picture with Bert, I look like a very regular sized human being because lurch looks so massive. So what that's about. I looked I looked a little bit tall, but I was square. I was. It was a bad fault there..

Author Doug Giles Recounts a Harrowing Lion Hunting Experience

"Is always. Especially exciting when I have on Doug Giles, GI LES, he's a maniac, I consider that a compliment, a high compliment, my friend, Doug Giles, welcome. Eric how are you doing big dog? You are you're too much, and I say that in the good sense, meaning exactly the right amount. Behind you, I see a mounted Lion, which I believe you sent into glory with your own gun. Is that what happened? Yeah, I was fortunate to hunt this line back in 2015 right before doctor Palmer shot Cecil the lion and thank God, man, that I got it before the importation ban on lions from Africa. So this thing came to kill me. I know some of my enemies wish that it would have and we shot him nearly a point blank range with an old German double rifle in Eric. I'm telling you what that leaves memory burn. And when David said he killed a lion with his bare hands, I'm kind of thinking, you know what? I might call stair core Tori as the Latin would say, or as the Greeks, you know, hailing from your heritage. They might call that scuba lawn because I can't imagine trying to kill one of these big dog with bare hands. You have to have some kooky anointing of the Holy Spirit. I always assumed when David said that, that he was talking about with a sling. I just assumed that. It doesn't matter. Lions are scary and the line behind you. Now, when you say came to kill you, I mean, you were hunting lions. Is that correct? I mean, you weren't just like sleeping and stepping back in your own business and it came to kill you. And it was self defense, but close enough. Yeah, no, we were stalking him. We found a kudu that he had killed about three 30 in the morning. And you wanted to revenge because a friend of yours knew that kudu has a child? Exactly. His name was Bert, I think. And so we had to take revenge on him, but anyway, we found him about after tracking four or 5 miles, and he was tired of our stuff. And so he decided to see what these skinny white boys from America had to offer. And it was an incredible altercation. We got it on video. I'll never post it in public because Zuckerberg and Peter will have an absolute heart attack. But it's not for the faint of heart, brother. That's

And you're like yeah but that's burt. Burt is he's got his phone out. he's a little bit. Yeah and so it was like a really good come in but yeah i think you're right. I try to stay close to like this guy. You know hollywood does fuck you up. It really genuinely does and it makes you want. You don't really want. I was on to just a read today. Three days ago. Nashville and psychic she. She's one of the like she's smart enough to like it's like what do i know i'm supposed to want that but i don't okay. She's like strong enough the no so so i. That's where i'm at right now. Where i go because i wanna talk to you about go ahead. I talked about this from serbia. Yeah like you've earned a break and doesn't mean not to stand up here doesn't mean not do podcast here but like like the joy get for a show at the wilburns great once. You've done it ten times. It's great it shouldn't be that much more joyous than a great set at the store wilbur. A lot better than store. The wilburs fucking amazing december ninth. It's you know what i did. The first time wilbur. That time mark norm on stage. I raced up to the top. And i went watch and i love watching rogan and up and i got up and went. I went whoo and then all of a sudden. I'm like someone goes. Burt and then i realized oh. They're all here to see me. I didn't wasn't aware of that. And i was like. Oh shit and bail the days of appreciating a venue from the outside. But that was beautiful. About doing watching. Jimmy bob and the next day because we're at jimmy buffett like they're not your some some but not not mine and so forth fifth row and me mark in dave kept turning around and staring at ten thousand people going like holy fucking shit like it was an you look at the rocks are lighting up and it was just surreal. So then i'll take at a festival so do it at a festival somewhere here and there like taking a you turn around. Hit my friends On my shoulders and we turn around you looked at. It was like she was an attorney. Becker route just when you see a crowd like that. It's just so fucking you don't see it like that from stage now you got to be in the audience to see it. Yeah right right. Because there's a darkness or something there's darkness and it just it doesn't register but that fucking to turn around and see it it's fucking is bad ass and you know so funny this kid i posted this video and read russia's awesome dude. I post video when i the day i sold out red rocks and i was like. I don't wanna do that. I think that's just. And so. And so i i mentioned it. I mentioned it on here. This kid hits me up in the messages and he goes just so you know it was like i was one of the first people to get tickets and when it sells out i feel like i made a great call. The movie you watch the oscar two of them. One of those guys. And i was like oh fuck yeah and so i was like all right i am like i need to get back to okay so here. Here's where it is when you actually have a thing. Red rocks right. Were you like. I'm genuinely proud or the first time you do the wilbur. Not the time the first time that feeling. Is there a genuine moment when you're just like hey. Here's a picture of me in front of a crowd and it looks good. That's an that's a disingenuous moment. Because you look right to everybody else but you don't have that feeling right you don't have like. Oh there's a pretty picture a case in point somebody said in oakland or san francisco. They saw these like white chicks. Like young white checks at a at a street fair and homeless up there. It's always been up there in san francisco and they're trying to position themselves. Take a picture at this street. Fair where they don't see a homeless camp behind them. Yeah so they can say look. How cute this and it's like. You're being disingenuous that they're part of that scene. My daughters friends went down to the black lives matters rallies just get fees and my daughters were like we're not going to my daughters are fucking they can see through it. They were like they were like. Why would you want to do that. I don't post like so on nine eleven. Don't everybody did post on nine eleven. Because because i'm like i'm like i what where would get the image from. I don't own any like really good. Nine eleven is like me lights. And just like i remember where i was admitted about themselves does some of us. Most people want to join in on that. Some people joining begrudgingly. And there's a group of us who are like look everybody else going like you were embarrassed for you when nine eleven like when i have or a dead celebrity. We're embarrassed for you and so we're like this is disgusting and we want no part of it. Were not gonna post a fucking square or anything like that was a fucking big mistake. The only i got. I got i no go ahead. I mean i. Didn't i remember when kobe died. I didn't say anything did you did. Thousand things is that people like you push me into space that oh poor baby. This guy you don't know died so i was. That was a really good. I didn't say it was a longtime no but it's it's so funny. I i when i post box because people were getting in my. Dm's telling me like how dare your silence is deafening. And they'll send you it and then all of a sudden you're like oh really it's like you can't and by the way it is. "Today. I'm going to do something a little different for this installment of your next dive normally tried to take you to a dive destination where we talk about the trip from a number of different perspectives. The travel the lodging the dive operator. Oh yeah the diving. Now we've been around the world. But today i'm going to focus on one particular dive that is almost in our backyard. It is one of the most iconic dives here in new england and that is the wreck of the chester. Polling off gloucester mass. The chester polling was a coastal tanker. That sank in a brutal storm on january tenth. Nineteen seventy seven. The tanker had just left everett massachusetts and was bound for newington new hampshire. That information is pretty consistent in the research but there is other conflicting information about where she had been. And what cargo she delivered for example some documentation said she had previously delivered kerosene to new jersey while others indicated that the heating oil was delivered to everett mass. I would suspect that delivery to everett mass to be more likely always interesting when you Doing research to get this type of inconsistency now the chester polling was bill in nineteen thirty four at mariners harbor new york by united dry docks incorporated it was originally in the plattsburgh sacconi somewhere along the line at also known as the mobile albany before getting renamed as the chester polling at the time of its sinking it was owned by the motor vessel polling brothers and that was number one inc. I wasn't able to find who was actually named after but obviously some member of the family. So that's a little bit of history about the ship now on january tenth. Nineteen seventy seven capital captain. Bert charles burgess was in command. The forecast for that day was for thirty five mile an hour winds along with fifteen to twenty foot seas. the chester polling chester. A polling left. Everett are left everett at six thirty. A m well as we all know. Forecast can be wrong. The winds built up to fifty miles per hour and to seize goddess highs. Thirty feet facing the mounting sees captain. Burge's tried to get more stability by adding more ballast but at ten thirty a m a thirty foot waves smashed into the tanker and broke it in half the captain called for abandoning the ship. Six of the seven members of the crew were saved. I believe it was the cook jail. Derosa from providence rhode island who perished the sir. The stern section of the chester polling came to rest off easter point gloucester originally in about seventy five feet of water with the bow section sinking about four miles off of eastern point in about one hundred ninety feet of water subsequent winter. Storms move the stern section to its present location about eight hundred yards off of eastern point about ninety five feet of water. I think the bottom might be a little bit deeper than that. However the stern section of the chester polling is what some folks call hollywood wreck sitting upright and is probably the most popular wreck dive off. Cape ann as that areas known. Now i- i dove the chester polling way back in july two thousand and five. It was my fortieth dive and a double dip on. The polling was part of my advanced open water class. These dyes would constitute my deep and wreck advanced. Open water dives. At that time. I was still diving in a seven. Millimeter wetsuit with the appropriate gloves and hood. I use the standard aluminum. Eighty tank with nighthawks. Thirty two. I can still remember the anxiety that had doing. The first real wreck dive in the northeast but once in the water what an amazing dive the visibility that day was thirty feet and my max step was at eighty five. Even though it was july the water temperature on iraq was fifty degrees. It was incredible to move along the deck and reach the mid mid ship section where. The tanker broken half absolutely mesmerizing but with an aluminum. Eighty you don't get much bottom time and after about fifteen minutes we headed back to the up line and after are appropriate safety. Stop we climb back aboard the boat and got ready to do it again. Total dive time was twenty six minutes the second dive that day was just as spectacular and pretty much the same profile. Let me just say in a wetsuit. It can get pretty chilly. I didn't go back to the chester polling until august. Two thousand nine and that was my last trip there. It was my two hundred and forty ninth dive but this time i did it in a dry suit and hope to get some good video of iraq. I still dove aluminum. Eighty the dive was just as i remembered and just as exciting visibility again was thirty feet. And my max. Depth was eighty two with and the bottom temperature. That day was forty eight degrees still very cold but so much better in a dry suit again however with an aluminum eighty. You just. Don't get much bottom time especially if your task loading like shooting video so my recommendation is that if you are planning to die the polling you might want to consider a little bit bigger tank something like a steal one hundred or going to doubles. I know that i wouldn't consider going back with anything less than a steel one hundred tank. How do you get to the chester polling back. Then we use cape and divers but they closed up several years ago and recently the dive boat cape and diver to was purchased by several guys from boston. An air now operating regularly chart regular charters again became an diverse to is a forty five foot. us coastguard registered dive vessel. It is spacious and right now with limited divers on board you get plenty of room to get ready and dive but you don't get a lot of but you don't get a lot of time because you don't have a lot of time to get ready because the is only a few minutes from the dock so be prepared one thing. Different about northeast wreck diving. Is that as a diver. You need to bring all your gear that includes tanks weights everything. It's not like diving at a resort. Don't get caught short by not being prepared with all your own stuff now. Here's an interesting element. That i discovered during my research. It appears that in nineteen sixties. The chester polling was length lengthened. By maybe twenty six or so feet. That doesn't sound like much. But at the time of her sinking her length with two hundred and eighty two feet so that lengthening was about ten percent of the original ship's length could this have been a contributing factor for the ship splitting in half. I wonder so if you happen to be in the area of cape ban in gloucester massachusetts. You might wanna look up cape and diver to and head out for a double dip on the chester a

And i was like i would love that and i was like yo can andrew come. She's like yeah. Me and andrew. And i was like hey. Can you invite your mom. Monk biting fucking what you're married. I think he's a fighter like other river. Fuck you was her mom pretty hot hot. Really hot in single but is like a fucking concert. Harpen harpignies harpen harpignies. Harpen harpen harpen harpist. Harpist is a harpist and so is tasha. Tasha a of fucking harpist. Okay whatever shit. It's so fucking yeah. Concert harp was how did what are. What are you done learning the piano. Now that you've got your handbag. I started playing again. I can't do that. You see this and you go comment if i do that. Abuse greg best pianist. This left hand doesn't really do it yet. You know but it's starting to get there. It looks like it's looks better. it's better. It's definitely better and i can. I got reflection back. But you know it takes a while. Is that what do they give you a list of things you need to get back. Yeah yeah reflections. Like one of the first ones risk collection. Yeah i i got a medical grade Electric muscle stimulator coming. Oh putting that on my dick immediately. Oh i'll do it for you. Muscles stimulator fucking muscles stimulated an orgasm on my dick. Just fucking put it all around. What does it look like tens machine. I think so. I think it looks like it. But i haven't seen it yet waiting for it. I physical therapy today. Oh nice are you in pain at all or you not good. I'm i'm good. I what what holds you back at all anything No i can't. I feel weakness once i when i take this off. I can't. I can't bend like to hear. I can only bend like how. I can't touch my face or anything with that hand with this hand. So there's still is still tightness. And when i walk on the treadmill i definitely feel tightness in this in the tendon. Like when you wear that onstage wearing onstage. Why are you really gonna wear those h. Oh i'm really wearing them. Onstage for at red rocks red rocks yeah bring it just hit him with a little fucking fireworks every now and then so it won't stay on the whole time. No it'll stay on the. Oh no no. It's not going to be razzle-dazzle the whole time. But every once in a while every once in a while i'm gonna hit him a little fireworks had go on or off i'm flying to dudes out to operate it because you know what it is is like remember when kevin hart the game when he put fire up behind him and it was like so it was a funny thing. Then there's some people. I think i think i think the fucking comedies lost on them but their production value. But i saw that. They did it as a joke right. They did it just as a joke. And i couldn't stop laughing. At how distracting it was a. It was making me laugh so hard that i like and then i did. The video and the video was really funny and immediately my manager was like. Are you doing that. And everyone started hitting me up going. Are you really doing that. You should do that. You should definitely do that. So i put in the comments and i had my team read the comments and like a ninety six percents. That's a brilliant idea. And so i was like fuck it. It's twelve hundred bucks to have this arm off whenever i wanted to. That's flying the guys out. Having them operate it. And so how will you. How will you signify when you want. It lit up. Hit him with fireworks. Steve as the guy's name steve an an room but it and he can do. I told them if if there's at times where it might apply to a joke like they can do like the red white and blue flag. They can do they can just type in like colorado state flag and make it look like it so i if there's a moment in a joke and i'm going to go through my set but if there's a moment joke i might have them hit it so we'll see i don't know i'm i'm sure i'm going to have them keep it off in the majority of the show because it's distracting as fuck to me. Yeah but I had diarrhoea. I seven days straight. This is when this is at the end of go. Big show dyer rising great diarrhea. Because you're eating three meals for each meal a day. I wonder if my body was like i give up. This is too much and we need to get all this out like you're going home. We can't take this with us. It's almost like it's almost like kabul airport like just get it out so so you were just shitting all day. I wish shitting shooting probably six times a day. My asshole was. I felt like it was a prolapsed asshole like tender. Yeah and by the way. Thank you for pushy. Let me tell you something you you wanna be when you have diarrhea like that a day and shit so much that i think i had like fissures on my asshole like it. I think i'd burned holes in my asshole. And i would just sit with that pushy and it would each my astle. I would like just let it go and just on the hardest dick ago the just oscillate and just it was almost itching. "Everybody has been speculating on this. Apparently kylie jenner allegedly vary allegedly is pregnant. We don't know for sure. But that's what everyone is. Say this and it's not like this rumor has existed. This rumor has existed for months now. Circulating on tig talk. There were sleuths pointing out her nails in all different instagram stories. That gives you prerecording content now. It seems like we're leaning toward. She really is pregnant. I was skeptical at first. Because page six was the first one to break it page. Sex exclusive sources. Say to pay six hundred pregnant this. This happened literally three weeks ago. Celtic page six pair sold. And she's pregnant and guess what paris hilton said. She wasn't pregnant so at first. I was skeptical It seems like everyone was using this video of caitlyn jenner as a source or she was at an event She's asked about having eighteen grandkids. She said oh you know thirty would be a nice number round number and said you know sh nineteen nineteen on the way. Somebody's pregnant didn't say who supports. Everyone thought kylie and then. Tmz said hold the phone. Everyone burt jenner is having his third child but maybe she was really talking about kylie. We don't know if it's kylie and bert than there's twenty on the way but every other outlets jumped on it afterwards it was. It was one after the other page. Six teams e. people us just jared a e. Like everybody news for once everybody posted. Its like all right since. Probably the reason why. I think it's true is because usually when something's not true kylie tweet about it or she posted an instagram story about it and i feel like something like this her being pregnant she would say something. So i mean congrat- to kylie and travis question mark.

"Of course he sees. It's my number guarantee we saved me under. Didn't you post. that's the one you don't like the most. Oh tell you why. Yeah it's about christina cool and it hurt me the way. He the way the way he was talking like. That was fucking fucking killed. Me man fucking killed me. And i was drunk. I was in amsterdam. And i was fucking mark norman. That's like a while ago while ago. I've held onto it. I've held onto it tom. I logged at something. Okay and i fucking was with mark. Norman and i could not let it go. I was so angry so angry because it was like attacking people. I love talking to me very like them. Venomous way and i sat with mark. Norman at on a fucking and i came. We're in amsterdam. Let's go get a joint and fucking forget about this. We have to shows tonight. And i was like you're right. You're right and i am. I go he goes. Here's what you do. Burt save that number and like a year from now deal with it. Then when you're not so angry it's been two years and i just got the fucking searing anger. Now you feel it. Yeah i think he's got a of emotion make some going into surgery and i'm like fucking number got leaked docs and we had. I mean literally. We had to get a new house because we got docs because everyone had my and that might be my fault but that might be my fault. I remember one time christina going. Don't give a. Bert are address. Because he's going to post it online. And i was like what are you talking about. And it was like you one time. You texted me like over the course of a week like three times like. Hey what the fuck. Can i have your address by the way the beauty is. This phone. Number is dead starting tomorrow. Yeah and i will never hear from these people ever again i. How do you do when you get a new phone you. Everyone know how many people here's what you do. This is the best way to do. Okay you get your new number. Yeah take a picture of yourself with a piece of paper that says like. Hey this is bert this minute number right a message. Once that you copy and then you copy and paste the photo and the message to people who you want to have the number interesting okay. So that people know what's really you. You're like okay okay because otherwise. I held hostage. Yeah kind of and then and then you have that. Hey this is bert. This is really my new number. Here's a picture of me saying like this is my new number and then you just text it to the people you want to have your new number. Which is the best. Because it'll take a while for people don't want to have your number to get your number. Yep and then as soon as those people start getting your number you get another number okay. Cool all right. Yep starting tomorrow brand new number had that number this number here. Since i moved to la. Wow years well. I got it you can i tell you i mean now that everyone knows my number yet changing it. I got it because it spells. Burt really the last four four. Two three seven eight is burton's. Burt is a great number is a great number. Yeah i had a really good number. And then i switched it a few years ago way too. Many people have my number and then you had way too. Many people meaning like way too many people that you just didn't want to talk to or you got i got i mean now i i didn't get docs. Yes people just too many people that don't talk to by number and then also well like you. It's like a decade of touring the clubs. And you give the number to like the staff the radio station the the hotel the meant like it's like it's just too many people. You're so i got rid of that one. I have a new one getting a new number again next week i got a new phone. I'm going to get a number it and so do you hold onto your old phone. This went. I'll hold onto for a minute. I'm gonna see how it works on tour. Having the two phones burner phone well. San bernardino maintained the number. I've had the new number. I'm just gonna give to like family. "F. Facetime my Face timing isn't aggressive. Move i do everyone. You being a conservative. You probably be in a conservative ship. Well there's there's this highlights from this i remember. I flipped out when i read articles. Amazing he he has made hundred fifty million dollars in his career at the time of this article impressive. I'll tell you why sit. Let's think let's think about right so so that's pretty big pretty big. I just. I was just trying to do the math. And i was like 'cause. I almost likes cosmopolitan. Like made like twenty million dollars or something right. Yeah and i was like okay so then like i figure i just work from sebastian and i go. How long have you been working right. Yeah we're working says twenty one jump street longtime okay and then figure how. When do you think johnny depp. How old's johnny depp be close to sixty guests started when he was eighteen. Isn't he close to sixty my wrong. And fifty eight started when he was eighteen. Right right start. Let's say he started making millions when he was twenty five. Okay so twenty. Five years like thirty years basically thirty years. It's not that. I mean you know he means it means consistently every year you're making like twenty thirty million dollars a year but really only parts of the karen began with a big big k. Well let's go. No the worst they were. We were by the way. I hope. None of this. Coming off slanderous johnny depp. Lindsey lowe in orbit spears. Scroll just a little bit. So here's some highlights okay. I realize i'm sitting here going britney like trying to lobby for conservative. I have a real hard time with anyone telling me what to do. I could never do a conservative ship. I had a hard time with holding my arm and an mri machine l. Yeah you'd be a nice say bert. You're done and i'll be like no you check this out so in the suit there's at the time there's a suit going on his sister they find. The sisters of johnny was given seven million dollars his assistant. Seven hundred fifty thousand dollars without his knowledge and that he has paid the irs. More than five point six million dollars in late fees. Scroll down more ridiculous So the su- suggested that depp has a compulsory. Two million a month spending habit so we spending twenty five million dollars a year spending. That's out what while this was breaks. It down gotta be small things. You're going to collect that much. Listen to this. Scroll scroll more because they list some of his things in. it's outrageous. scroll little more. I'll look gorgeous. He is he's a good looking man. He's a very good looking man. Of course johnny. Depp cruise ends in the concert. Jeb tried tying trying to pull his own to the restaurant while dinner with stella mccartney. Yeah i bet. He's so yeah. He loves smoking wine. There's a whole thing in here about his wine habit And like how many homes and and things that they tried to get him to get rid of and he was like no but maybe that's the maybe that's how the sausage is made that it might wanna get if you wanna get part of it. If you wanna get rate actors. You've gotta let him be crazy. Grabbing heard any good songs from like new song from brittany right now so maybe it maybe that maybe this conservative ships stopping the art. And then here's question. Is the art more important than the person like do. Do we care more about a good britney spears song that's fun to dance to and and brings your smile your face. Then her wellbeing. Well 'cause now is really. I don't i don't think you're gonna have both real well in that case you mean yeah i mean you know it's like it's like look other some some artists nor to create the art. They hurt other people right. We'll use harvey weinstein as an example. I on an artist. you get what. I'm saying yes. I'm artists hurt other people to get their art. That's how they do it. That's how they operate that's their thing you know it's funny and then some artists hurt themselves. They hurt themselves to get the to make the thing they need to make right. Yes what's more important the art or the artist because you. I mean candidly ninety. Five percent of the people don't really care about britney spears care about her nuts they just want to tweet about her they care about the honestly care about the music that they i cared about music and it's not the artists that's the music the art okay. So here's the other stuff here Okay depp accused his management firm of taking thirty four million in loans in his name as a result of mismanagement with the final result. Straubing a twelve point. Five billion dollar hard money engineered to his longtime attorney. Twenty fourteen at ten percent interest He has been harley paid. Any down scroll more more wondering if this is the same article that i was referencing. 'cause they also said he was a big fan of What's the hunter thompson. Yeah he spent like three million dollars out of a cannon He says it was ten. You're looking for right off. I'm sure you whatever. Yeah what's that next picture. I want to see more pictures of johnny depp. Hunter s. look at how good looking he is. He's a handsome those cheekbones. I mean i mean really. Do you think hunters fucked up there..

"I love oat milk. Yeah i really love milk. What are we talking about the beginning like we were on a good path and then week. Yeah forget hey. I wanna know about i want to know about So one of the things that was really like ho- like making me like homesick. Was when i got to see you guys do cool shit in the world like fucking vegas chapelle. Do that was the best. Okay start at the beginning and let me know. Every time i named given. That was the best. I so joe had called me a couple months ago and he goes. Hey i'm doing in vegas With chapelle at the mgm. Visit conor fight conor mcgregor fight to when you donald trump got to hang out exactly. You were sitting. How close it all trump outlet. I'll hang on. Okay hooked. 'cause we got easter ray donovan. I i'll tell you this. I say this. The weekend before was my was the first time back in vegas. Since the pandemic it was july second and third you for builders was. Oh yeah everyone was there and everyone's sold out. Everything sold out so my shows were sold out in advance. My october and january shows are sold out at rush like the like people once they announced shows are back. It's like demand. I still have through the few tickets left for a red rocks. September eighth red. Rock less timber outside denver. And that's a nine thousand seat amphitheater and we've got about thousand tariffs left to up. It's gonna clean up but go ahead and get paid now. I mean we got. We got two thousand but clean it up. Let's let's clean it up guys so i get there and you can feel. The energy is like in in the city. You know sometimes somebody you just feel it. So i'm at the mirage Burs at a park Whatever it's called parks forget the name of the whatever park africa. The word park is in the is a casino. Name there so Right what's what is the heart should be. Good should be good parking lot. There's parking lot. Vegas fucking name park. Mgm c mo. Well so now here. Here's my question park. Mb mgm is. I'm immediately guessing. Koreans bought it. I have no idea. i guess. That's an educated borderline racist gas parks a big name right. It's asian food. Hold on hold on is that. It's actually geez. Kimchi on the front fucking. That a korean lady doesn't dude. Well we do know something about the vegas jamie fox. They'd love jamie fox. We do know this about vegas. All casino designs aesthetic choices. Everything caters to the asian community. All of them. yeah. I don't mean like is it annual too i mean specifically they go they are biggest customers and anything that would disrupt or offend the asian community. Las vegas casinos are like fuck that like we do. It's and you can go to mo- most casinos. The nice ones all have like a legit asian restaurant in there at least some asian cuisine colors number everything to to cater to the asian community. Anyway i'm there that weekend. Can we can back. It's everyone's first weekend back. Burr is down the street and park. He's sold out. Chapelle is at the arena on his own. Two nights sold out bruno. Mars is down the street. He sold out. The cirque shows are sold a couple of other big acts. Also everything sold out right and you you feel it in your walking through this and you're like holy shit. It's a lot and like the staff some of them. It's like i one of my my like the person who takes care of the talent there sir. I just got back. Everyone had a year off. So i'm doing the mirage and the shows are like you walk out bananas minutes and there's so fun if you'll so fun to be back and i have. I have a great two nights there. Like i said friends come out to the show. It's a great time. And then i go from there. I think i go here. Yeah i come to la do more. Podcast then i fly to texas. And then i fly with joe and his family to vegas and family went. Yeah that's cool. They all went. And that's a that's a better market difference from when he first started doing a may fights l. m. eddie bravo so he says crazy. It'll be like a bear coming out of hibernation real. Swear to god and then they'll be like burt surgery went great and they'll start feeling you end. There'll be like you'll go thirsty and your throat will bother you because you were incubated so you'll have like a tube have been down your throat the rest of the day your throat your chest be kind of like you try to speak and it might be dry. They'll give you crackers and water like things to kind of you know. Start letting you eat again. And then they'll come in and tell you guess what we repaired the tendon and it went exactly the way it was supposed to go. We didn't know the you have ms. That's the worst we got in there. Yeah so you're gonna new regimen pretty soon any any any derivation off of i like i like i do and you can. You can get a cocktail before you come in right like you'd be like load up no vacant. And then they they really giving you the iv and then he was like cranked it and then it was just like to. What did they give you. They give you. Didn't ask. And i was just like fucking take the edge off man. I'm telling you. I'm looking for surgeons to do the. Let's go make coffee. Geologist does is all they do that. They don't know how to go. They put you under and they try to keep you alive. That's all they do so they they just check your have to. They have to you know. They have to consider the type of operation the duration of the operation the patients conditions. You know they're putting under a child a thirty year old woman. A three hundred sixty pound man like they have different so then they you know they differentiate the different medications how long and then of course considering the person's conditions might be like this person doesn't need to be intimated for this procedure. This person does like all types of different things like. Oh i hope i don't. I don't wanna be intimidated. You're going to be you think of absolutely because you have sleep apnea sleep apnea absolutely incubate. You really of course. Is that why you got into bed. Stop anything you could stop breathe. Oh so they just make sure that your they make sure you don't stop breathing. It's like a little push on a bike. That's exactly what it is our my my surgeries. Take an hour okay. Sometimes they take longer than they think they're gonna take. It's gonna take longer. I think there's gonna be a lot of fashion in there. And i got some fucking break scar tissue and then get the tendons down. I wish i was here for this. I will be starting thursday. Yeah come friday. Are you really going to be here when you come into the room with me that i don't know that they would allow that. I was there for you okay. Tell them that. Well the they'll have they'll have you intimated probably what happens when you're under you know. Hold on after outright. Yeah yeah they're not like i open up so we think this one is a different one. It's a different decision arm. Different arm. look how many decisions do they make too. Big one one big. Why are they doing that. Why are they doing that that is. I don't need to see any of this. This is really bad. Come on dear lord fucking start. I'm gonna tell them i want. I want very small scar. Yeah very listen to that. And then i want him to really take time. Sewn it up. Because i performed shirtless. And i don't want him to scar. I never gonna to turn my back to the states now. You will to the audience. Because i don't want to see much it'd be a cool story. Yeah fucking great story. Yeah that'd be fun story. Thank god thank god. I worked out before. I went and did the movie because they said i would've just ripped the fucking tricep off really. Yeah because i don't have any. Here's what's really fucking bizarre. About limiting pain in the arm. So like i've no pain and so they were like they're like you should have like searing pain you out. I was like i don't and then they went and the guy was doing these like they do all these things to arm like move it and then push it. He goes you but a lot of strengthen. Your arm did you. I mean you can fix it but like do. Are you active. Do you do stuff. And i was like. If you don't have any pain. Like who cares. And i was like i do like do you work out and i was like. Yeah he goes. I know but like do you like do you actually try and i workout. I just pulled a fucking home gym. I was like and i was like wait. Are you saying. I felt like the time i went into buy running shoes at at the running shooting world. Yeah and the guy goes. What do you get these four. I go running and he goes no like. Yeah i was like no. I run and he goes you do and i was like yeah and like i said this to me i was like no i lift weights and i run. I i exercise. I'm in pretty good shape. And he goes okay and then he does the tesla my arm and he was like hold on again. This is what then and then the real doctor came in. Not the real doctor. I'm sure the first guy was a real doctor. The Infinite Alchemy of Storytelling

"I grew up in kuwait in the early nineties where i was raised by screens. The main windows to reality for me or television and the internet not because of their accuracy because there were storytelling machines. These machines told stories that contradicted another but all somehow seem true. There bridge in new quick to be one of the leading voices at media specifically for comedy shows theater the rest of the world new kuwait to be a small country that was located between saudi arabia iraq and iran during the gulf war. Both stories are true. These creams i dragged my sense of reality from pulled me different than sometimes contradicting stories about who i am and where i come from. And that was the only way. I understood anything around me by placing it into different sets of stories when social media came around. It changed the way screens worked for me. It was only a window for observations anymore but interactive one. When i could use to identify everything around me in even more varied in multiple ways to know myself better actually participate in the storytelling process. It started with drawings. Mostly cross hatched on photographs. That i took with my iphone. With time i started to animate them onto videos that told stories from different perspectives in a mockumentary series titled bert lock. It consists of scripted interviews by imagined minority voices discussing issue or one of common interests. The title of the series is meant to ponder the idea. What if birds were watching back. What would they think of our obsession with speed and oil with. They think we were done for standing under the rain. The second episode for example is an interview with the little girl that tries to explain her definition of health where she says she wants to be like her father. Be strong smoke until children. Not to an awful like her grandmother. Cook good food. Beloved by everyone to have diabetes. She also introduces us to the stomach. Animal it's the head of an animal that's connected to our stomachs and its objective is to continue eating. Even after a full you see. Kuwait has one of the highest rates of childhood obesity presenting it in amusing story while pointing out. That children are themselves minor. Voice is a great way to really put the statistic into

"Not notice in doing what you did on saturday night live. Did you not notice that. That was something that others wouldn't try because they're afraid of the flames. That have climbed all around this stuff with you. Know being led by the mob. And what you're talking about. Which is people trying to outrage. Each other in the competition being between like i'm going to be morally superior to the person next to me like certainly something funny about that is another thing that people try to do. Is they're constantly taking quotes from a comic and then attaching their own political ideology to an acting like they're explaining what you meant and it's always you know more times than not it's wrong. Not only is it wrong. It's one hundred and eighty degrees in the other direction. Right so on that one when i did that joke. This dude wrote this article going. You know when. I did that bit about white women. Go and the reason why worked was because he called out himself for being a toxic white male. And it's like that's not why it worked. It worked because it was true. And if you ever saw my position. When i told that joke i didn't have to get to the punch line for people of color. They were laughing during the setup. Then i do the punch line. And i would get half the white people and then i called myself on that shit to bring white guys like that. Woke idiot woke idiot. Who wrote that article. It's like i said that for you. I said that specifically for people like you. Because i know what you're going to do is then like you know. Use this thing to try and get more hits while you pretend like you care about the issue. Because i feel like that's another thing that a lot of people are doing being outraged being all of this shit. I like to think that. I i can hear when it's sincere or when it's tied to like a brand and i think so much of it is like an algorithm for how you navigate these new waters on a social media asset all of that shit. That's one of watching lands. They were talking about starving people and they said if you're if you're what did they say if you're if you're experiencing food insecurities i just want to be in that meeting when they're coming up you remember your friends. You'd sit around and try to come up with good band names. I feel like that's what corporate corporations do. Starving free caviar k. We can't say they're starving. Got food challenge. Now if you challenges all burned it out food insecurity. Sorry you may have covered this ground. I'm actually curious bird. I will talk to you in a second of i want it is that i'm doing but i am curious you've talked about. I'm guessing you've talked about this but the specifics of the degree of difficulty of doing that monologue that way in this climate like what is nowhere near as difficult to what you're doing now that you've left the espn sorry burke go ahead. No no no. Let me tell you something about bill. Things we think about bill. Bill does not think about bill. I've asked those questions about that. Snl was pretty epic in my opinion. A lot of things. Bill does i. You know i'm a friend of his. But i'm also a big fan of the way. He does what we do and i think i put more thought into what bill does than building. Sometimes i mean. I know for a fact. That's the genius. Or what. I do because i know exactly what i'm doing. You just go up there and say that shit. 'but you don't you don't sit the next. I knew enough to go and she sit right down to my talks. I knew to do that for that. She was going to write that article. But you're not sitting there going like there's no Same thing rogan's where it's almost like. Cte where you guys just say and you go untapped out. I don't need to see what anyone says. And you dial out of it. And i don't have that ireland. The last time. I remember louis c. k. Went on there and he just he he did. It was rat tat tat. Three three things. One of them was pedophilia. One of them was israel palestine. I don't remember what the third one was. And i'm like good god. This guy's living right on the rail and so the the only other time. I thought i'm like wow. He's go he's gonna do it this way. There there had to have been. He might not think about it on the back end. But he's he's has to have thought and deconstructed. What are the angles. That can be attacked from on the front end. Like you can't walk into that you can't walk in totally fearlessly unless you're totally prepared. Totally this let me make me make it very clear. I know for a fact. Bill knows what he's doing walking into everything but they'll have something that joe has that. Maybe i don't have an iphone bert. You're literally you're in america and you're you're going to like it's like you know if you're saying it maliciously and that's the thing that if i went on stage and i said something i was in a bad and i really meant it than like i i would. But here's the thing. I would apologize to the person that he said it to. I'm not apologizing. Cloth was drinking. A cup of coffee wasn't even at the fucking show now. I'm doing.

Okay, He's a rapper artist s O Anyhoo. See what? See? Um, back to the media War That I said, is being fought betwixt the to know every time one of them does something publicly, The other one responds through the media passive aggressively, right? Well, Brian Austin Green has done so and he did so in the form of a 12 Minute Instagram live session on Sunday with Sharna Burgess, His Burgess, Bert Burgess Burgess. His love interest 12 minutes. It's a long time on how they how grateful they are to have found each other. It's 12 minutes talking about there. Is he wearing her blood? No, but he did say the following and I just thought Now listen, I will Nick pick I am not above it. He said the following of her and her character of his new lady in his life. He calls Sharna Burgess and amazing, considerate, loving, kind person. And I just thought like the considerate piece was kind of an interesting choice of words. Like I said, I'm going to nit pick. Considerate is a word that you use to describe a child may be like, Oh, there's such a kind and considerate person. Or it's like a report card word, but I don't hear that word and think that's something you say about the person who you've fallen in love with unless you're trying to say. Birding with Dr Meredith Williams

"Berta. Volt from more than one. Hundred and fifty million years ago and then explosively diversified culminating in more than ten thousand species distributed worldwide. Today are human. Relationship to beds is complex to seen as spirit messengers of the gods and at the same time. We took the wild red jungle fowl. From india and selectively bred into domesticated chickens the now farmed in cages feathers have been used for thousands of years and indigenous headpieces and at the same time but has like parrots and parakeets a kept as pets bird poop called guana was used as the first fertilize of modern agriculture. And charles darwin study of galapagos finches was to the formulation of evolution. Buds are all around us. We are closer to bed than any other wild animals birds. I literally and figuratively are canaries in the coal mine. Their wellbeing is our wellbeing threats to buds range from habitat loss including logging climate change industrial farming with pesticides invasive species and even cats. These will had a devastating impact on the bird populations of the us and canada. Which in just the last fifty years have declined by. Three billion birds danton insane. Thirty percent of all birds gone. Three billion pez of wings have vanished ever across our continent from sea to shining sea. Luckily birds have strong allies in their corner. There an estimated sixty million active bird watches in the us alone and with the pandemic shutting down so much of our country. We have flocking to bird watching like never before everything from bird feeders. To binoculars have been in short supply and this year the birding app e bird collected more sightings in a single day the was admitted during the first two and a half years of the apps existence. I must admit coming late to the bird-watching pardee. But thanks to dr meredith williams. That's about to change. I'm lucky enough to work with meredith every day in her role. Running one of the most important and complex agencies in california governor. The department of toxic substance control. Dr williams received two undergraduate degree from yale and a doctorate in physics from north carolina. State university meredith then worked and silicon valley fortune. Five hundred companies in the technology consumer product and chemical sectors meredith left the private sector to follow her passion for wetlands and birds and led the san francisco estuary institute as we'll hear. Meredith journey is about so much more than her resume. Meredith nine meet apt get ready for my maiden watching invention merit so we're about to go hopefully bed watching what. What do we need to bring with us while like what. What's what's in the bird watching backpack almost nothing. Which is great binoculars. Of course are your starting point. So i hope you have some inaugurals. I know you were looking for some recently. You gave me some good advice. But i get any but we all kind of professional but what just like you would have an extra pair. Do thought so. It's in the office but we could stop on the way out of town. Not of that sound. No we should. We should yeah. You just kind of out now. Okay okay so you got the binoculars. How do you if you're starting out. It's surprising how good have gotten very affordable these days so i mean it's still a lot to invest but ask a bird watcher. They might have an extra pair. That's the first place you might wanna try like them. What do you well. first of. All there are lots of different kinds of birdwatchers in terms of some people. Want to count every burden get really long list. And they track every single birthday they see. It's about the numbers of the that very unique bird and they chase vagrant birds that fly in unusually and they're rushing off to see that bird so there those kind of bird watchers I'm a bird watcher. Just watch one bird for a long time. I liked bird behavior. just i'm just fascinated by them. And i think they're beautiful so i could just end up watching one bird for for quite a while you can just take it. In at whatever level you want in terms of the variety birds that you could see and how you would just experience them and enjoy them. So and i think the only way to find that out is to bert. Watch a little and see what grabs you What you do sounds really peaceful. The first thing that sounds the first thing sounds more. Like in england as a whole breed of people go train spotters and i always kind of identified them with bird watchers. Like it's really about. How many things. You've you've been able to capture and less about the bird the thing that you'll doing just sounds like being a peaceful will watching another animal even the people who are energized. That way unless they're doing a big day which would be a day when they map it out to see as many birds as they can. In a single day they're not necessarily rushing around even they are going to have moments of really enjoying a bird and even somebody like me chased around golden gate park looking for a rare warbler. That's very rarely in san francisco. There's an amiability amongst birdwatchers is really camaraderie. People are so nice. There's always somebody better in terms of being a better bird watcher. Meaning they either can identify birds better or you know they just have a lot of experience for the a little bit about. The ecology and people are so happy to share their information. That it's really wonderful. That's one of the things i like about it. And it tends to be every now and then you get into group and there'll be somebody who's a little loud but by and large the the folks are really kind of it's easy to get in a groove with with birdwatchers and settled and gopher along stroll and see some great birds. But what's there everywhere that it's a it's a big i mean like it huge movement and it's growing apparently it's one of the fastest growing outdoor activities. There is it's it is just kind of crazy places where i been going for ten years and cues to be just me and five or six friends maybe and now parking lot and i think the pandemic has made it even more so where a lot of people. That's how they wanna get outdoors or they've they've just kind of discovering it because they know it is one of the only ways to be outdoors so i think it's going to continue to grow which i think is great because then more people are connected to the natural world which obviously makes them care about it more. How did you get into meredith like what. What was your journey into bed watching. I mean i liked birds always in the yard growing up in ohio. You know the robbins and the blue jays. There was a hill in town. And i used to ride my bike up in the hill early in the morning and i would always see birdwatchers and i said when i'm old air quotes. I'm going to bird watch. And i kind of that seed was planted but i didn't really bird-watching until my three say in my thirties. I started volunteering for the san francisco. Bay national wildlife refuges. That you know are on the perimeter of the bay. You know them well getting restored a lot of them Back to title harsh. And i when i volunteered i would be doing everything from pulling out. Invasive plants to building shells but there are always birds around and i just became more and more and more fascinated with the birds invested in binoculars and just started creeping in. You join the audubon society and suddenly you're getting news about different outings and the next thing you know you're you're pretty far in foreign now. I'm foreign. I'm not pretty far and have taken a couple bird vacations. Which i think says that. I'm pretty far in. But what do those entail. The longest trip i took was to go to brazil to the pantanal. Which is a very large wetland like the mecca of bud watching their many mecca. It is a mecca over the course of two weeks. We just went out every morning. We get up before sunrise. Be moving by six o'clock at the latest. Usually more like five thirty and we went to a place that's called the parrot crater a giant sinkhole. And it's all a lot of parents live down in the sinkhole. And so you look down. A new parrots lying around in a simple it was tremendous and we ended up seen two hundred different species of birds there along with some giant giant eaters river otter is and it was quite a trip but the birds were spectacular.

Trump-Kemp Dispute Creates Rift Within Georgia GOP as Runoff Elections Nears

"You might need to win an election is a unified message. But Republican unity is hard to come by in the state of Georgia. Right now, President Trump has called Governor Brian Camp a fool and a clown for refusing to overturn President elect Joe Biden's victory there. Kemp says intervening in the election would be illegal and pressure over that dispute is creating a rift within the state's Republican Party just three weeks before runoff elections that will determine control of the Senate from member station to be Abie in Atlanta ever hurt reports Earlier this month, Governor Brian Kemp gave a press conference at the state Capitol about George's plan to distribute the Corona virus vaccine. Well, good afternoon, everyone. First of all, let me thank you for joining us today. Also, the elephant in the room is politics and on the Facebook Live comments. It's center stage. This man has turned his back on his Republican Party, writes one Georgian Can't believe I voted for you. Camp sellout, says another. And don't bother to run again. You're finished. Needless to say, Georgia Republicans are divided right now. Some lawmakers air calling to override the governor and back the president by demanding a special session of the Legislature. We're here in Athens today, Bert Jones with US And bring the beach part of the gang of four, putting out a petition demanding a special session. They're trying to go around the governor they need to Republican State Senators, Jones and Beach were on the John Fredericks Show and National Pro Trump Radio program. Last week, they alleged large scale voter fraud, which Republican election officials have said didn't happen. Here's beach and I can tell you if we do not fix this, and that's why I'm so adamant about this. I'm so fearful. That we're gonna wake up January 6, and we're not gonna like what happened because it's not going to be a fair election. Beach and Jones are responding to pressure from their pro trump constituents like those tearing camp apart on the Internet and calling in on this show, Let's get to the phone lines. Where we have Caroline from Sandy Springs carry these senators, some say, are ready to break the law to back President Trump. But Caroline wants them to know it's still not enough. We are mad on being very nice right now. We need you to step up into your part. We need you to stand up for us. Now. The pressure is so fierce on Republican state lawmakers, it was difficult to find someone willing to speak on the record for this story. They're worried about being targeted. But one did. My name was Chuck Martin represented 49th district up in North Fulton County. Martin is a longtime Republican. He spent 18 years in the General Assembly and wishes President Trump won the election. But he liked the governor doesn't believe the Constitution allows the Legislature to intervene That hasn't stopped tens of thousands of emails from flowing in. I'm getting an email that says, Stand true to your oath of office do this. But standing true to my oath of office doesn't allow me to do that. It's been the most frustrating moment in his public service career, he says, because some people have been completely convinced by misinformation. Like one retired army colonel who is pushing for the election to be overturned. Martin responded with language from the state Constitution, saying, Please explain how I can legally do what you're asking me to do. And instead from him, I get no How instead you know, he calls me a coward. A traitor. You know somebody that won't stand up to my oath of office. That's frustrating to me. I mean, I take this job seriously. President Trump is creating a rift in the Republican Party at a very inopportune time, says Charles Bullock, a political scientist at the University of Georgia as we saw in November of this year The Republican Party doesn't have AH, large commanding lead within Georgia, It is rarely close. It could be the kind of division it opens the door for Democrats to do very well in 2022. Jeannie Bradley is a Republican voter from helps about in Eastern Georgia. She was at a Mike Pence rally this month. And she's just confused because of the mixed messages about the election and about her Republican leaders. But we need to know more. You know, you're getting bits and pieces from all of the news media. You don't know. What to believe anymore, And it's just not the news media. It's people you know. In general, Republicans will still have her vote. But there are other people, she says, who may throw up their hands in this chaos, vote democratic or skip the election. And if Republicans lose the run offs, the big divisions that have emerged since November will likely only intensify in the GOP for NPR news. I'm Emma hurt in Atlanta

Marianna Leivaditaki's Chestnut Onion Stew Recipe

"Hello My name is Marina Boulevard key and I am from Crete half creighton and half Scottish Ashley I am a chef and I work here in London. And have been doing. So for many years, I was the head chef Mario and currently the head chef at Maurito at Hackney road. The race appeared like to share with you today is a chestnut and onion stew with the option of adding Pumpkin to it. So dishes really simple. A slow cooked stews. So you just need to create a really small base and sweet base using finely chopped carrots and celery and garlic and kind of cutting them really small and putting them in a pan with a little bit of olive oil and making sure they're nice and sweet. So cooking them for about fifteen to twenty minutes and then adding lots and lots of baby onions. So I like to use the Bora tiny. Tyler onions because they're small the really sweet and they're quite mild. So depending on how many people I want to do this do for I locate about five to seven baby onions, per-portion sa- loads, and loads, and this will make you really really beautiful. So after your base is nice and sweet, you just add the onions and then you add your cooked chestnuts. So of course, you can use chestnuts that you cook and you. Peel, but that will take a very long time. So I like to use good quality vacuum packed chestnuts. So I would say you kind of us about one hundred, one, hundred, twenty grams of chestnuts per portion just to be really nice and generous, and this is kind of what this is about using chestnuts instead of meat. So it's adding this kind of really really nice richness to this to that meat word if you using. That so you get everything in the port you add some really good quality chopped tomatoes a nice amount of red wine you season with salt and pepper, and a little bit of Orange Peel, a cinnamon stick, and you just make sure your port is nice and liquidity and there's enough liquid to kind of let this to cook gently few think the reason you can always add some wine or you can just add some water. Place a lead and just let it simmer for half an hour forty minutes just until it start smelling beautifully, you will be able to smell the orange and the cinnamon. When you take the laid off, you will see actually this source has really thickened and this Jew is just absolutely delicious. I wouldn't say it needs more than forty five minutes send. Another amazing ingredient to add that is very seasonal at the moment is. The pumpkin or the butternut squash or any funny squash that you might come across. You can just peel it Q-bert and added in this do at the same time with your base, your salary and your carrot, your onions. So I think here in London I don't often see chestnuts Jews and it's a true. That's very traditional in Greece in the winter months and it's absolutely amazing like if you go up the mountains, you know you. Might Walk into Taverna. The is run by an old granny and before you even kind of you just open the door and you're like, okay, she's Cook Chestnuts Stu. You know. So it's something that you find, but it's something that is also special. So it's not everywhere. It's not in every TAVERNA eater you go two sets a win today sheets really warming at celebrating chestnut, which you know are just absolutely amazing and I love them. And, it's a dish that I recently I collaborated with this amazing new project called wild radish, and this is my dish for Christmas together with lots of other things. So it's a little bit more elaborate, but the main stew is this chestnut and nonunion stew and it's been fantastic collaborating with world radish because it's just an amazing new project asking US sheriffs and other really really lovely beautiful capable sheriff's. To think of dishes they love Cook them, create them, write them down, and then they make them really easy for everyone to do. So you receive this amazing box with

How Tight and Loose Cultures Wire Our World

"What are social norms? So this is a great question and as a cross cultural psychologists. I tried to understand this really puzzling. Phenomena of culture culture is one of these puzzles because it's omnipresent. It's all around us but it's invisible like we tend to ignore it all the time and it's like the story of two fish. Were there swimming along? And they pass another fish. Who says how's the water boys and they swim on and wants US the other? What the Hell is water and for fish? This invisible thing is waterboy for humans. It's culture and a big part of culture is social norms or these unwritten standards for behavior that sometimes become more formalized in laws and rules but nevertheless we follow social norms all the time endlessly without even realizing it and we have to really understand their impact on social behavior. And that's why I wrote the book. That's so cool. Well thank you for writing it and for shyness late on this. But certainly there's individual differences in them like dark triad people. You know people who score high on the dark triad Scales and Machiavelli's and narcissism psychopathy. They they don't like social norms. They are versed. Do it. Well you know I've right in the book about sort of individual differences in people who like or dislike social norms rulemakers rube acres. You can think about the analogy of the chaos quarter. Muppets exactly like think about sesame. Street like the chaos. Muppets are like you know. Cookie Monster and you know and animal who loved to just create chaos. And don't follow rules by Ernie and Bert actually and Kermit the frog who love rules and I actually have tight-loose mindset quiz on my website where you can find out. Where do you veer in terms of mindsets people who like tightness really notice rules? They have a lot of impulse control. And they like structure. People who beer lose tend to ignore rules more often. They're more impulsive. But they're more creative and more open minded book. I talk about the advantages and disadvantages of this construct across levels from nations to neurons from states to organization. So it's something that I think about as a fractional pattern which is repeated pattern of phenomenon across different levels and I tried illuminate why titans differences evolve in the first place at Cross levels and what what consequence love the link that to creativity. Some people have. I wonder how that relates to some people. Argue that Asian cultures are less creative? You know then. Do you think that some of that can be explained by sort of the laser looseness titan of the culture itself? Yes so in our first analysis tight. Lucy was across thirty something nations where we were able to classify nations as veering Erg loose. Even knowing that all nations have tightened elements and some countries like Japan and Singapore China. Beer tighter than places like Brazil and New Zealand and the Netherlands Brazil anything goes indicators of Titus was the accuracy of clocks and how coordinated crops are city streets tight cultures the quad city streets. Pretty much say the same thing but in loose cultures like Brazil or Greece entirely. Sure what time it is because the clocks around you say a lot of different things and that speaks to something. That really is about the tight lose. Tradeoff tight cultures have a lot of order and loose cultures a lot of openness and that means that both have strengths and liabilities. Depending on your vantage point so your question about creativity. We have found that across nations across states. 'cause organizations that are tight. They tend to have less novelty idea generation than loose cultures by. What's interesting and we're finding this recently. Is that each. Has its own strengths. In terms of innovation. So who's cultures can create a lot of ideas but tight cultures can implement that much better so in fact both again have strengths that can be brought to bear on a common issue like innovation. Oh great have you read Richard Florida's work at all and the credit? Yeah the creativity class and yeah and at the city level. Also I think he's really staying. That's right because this also differs state by state within America rate. Do you think like is there a south difference versus? I don't know I don't WanNa grossly stereotype things without you. Actually telling me what the data says so in one of the chapter in the book. I talk about how we can move beyond red vs blue right right. In fact we have a paper in the Journal. Precedes National Academy that rank orders the fifty states into the tight and loose and often? You're saying that the South tends to actually of your tight. They have more strict rules. They have more order to some extent they have less creativity. They're also more polite so the route estates are the loosest states which tend to be on the coasts but those states had to have more creativity like like you surmised and so what got me does that we can kind of look at different different states now through a new Lens. One of the more important things that I talk about in the book is why these differences evolve in the first place and what we find across nation states etc is that groups. That have a lot of threat. Whether it's from Mother Nature like chronic disasters are famine or other human types of threats pathogens or population density or invasions tend to veer tighter. And the logic's pretty simple when groups have a lot of threat. They need rules to coordinate to survive and norm provide that they help people to actually control themselves in difficult situations and the titus states in the US tend to have more threat. They have more pathogens have more disasters and so forth and so there's some kind of logic to why groups evolved to be tighter loose. I mean with that sad and we could talk about it later. Threats now are whether perceived or real tend to produce the same psychology and. That's something nowadays that we're dealing with more. And more in terms of how tight who's manifesting itself in politics and in other contexts where threat is less objective and more
