"Friday, the Oklahoma City thunder beat the Portland trailblazers in climbed back into their first round playoff series. They have since since climbed down. But that was an occasion to be happy and generous with your local be writers. Right. Well, not so for Russell Westbrook. Areas of the podium alongside Paul George after game three berry Trammell, the Oklahoma and Russell first-half. Both teams struggled offensively is sort of a slug of a game. Both teams got going in the second half. What happened that sort of reverse the reverse the the tone of this game next question? Yeah. The the fourth quarter Vick. You got a fifteen point lead. They catch up one app in the last six seven eight minutes that reverse the momentum. And all that you guys burst back away. Next question. But curious Portland debut in Paul why did you dunk there at the end of the game? Next question. Great moments in quote gathering after the game. I've got like nineteen reactions this I want you to go first. So what did you think the audio doesn't do it quite as much Justice as the video does? Because I think that my, you know, this is a story that obviously has been has been bubbling for some time. You wrote about the thunder organizations relationship with the press corps was at twenty fifteen fifty twenty fifteen twenty four years ago. So this is for Trump was elected. It's not a new story. I think that that when you read the articles about Westbrook next questioning berry Trammell and others, and and Paul George you got it on the action this week and a question about his late game reverse dunk. No, you could hear that there at the end. Yeah. I mean, he he was it was it's notable to me. How little joy the Westbrook seems to be having with us because when you read about it. It's almost like he has a running gag. He has a bit, you know. But in fact, he's he's miserable through this whole thing. And in that in that, I traveled thing he he next questions him. And then I believe tremble asked the second question and Westbrook. Just looks just searching Lee out into the rest of the people in the in the in the amassed press corps to try to get someone else to ask a question without even saying anything just wordlessly searching for something else. He can respond to. He's it. It's he's. Like, I said, it would be one thing if he was just like like forget this guy, and I'm just going to continue to embarrass him. But it's more of just like it's just a I don't know if this if cell phone is too cute a term to be using this on a podcast is as serious as the press box. But it just seems to be like like he's losing in the situation, you know, and and in a berry travel for I mean, I mean, you can imagine you could imagine this being situation where there is a sort of like self-aggrandizing sort of like glory hog reporter who is just trying to get himself out there by continuingly asking questions and getting this response. There's a sort of Trump press conference aspect that some people to to the whole thing that some people might relate it to. But but tramples like a totally down the line journalists. He seems to be doing seems to be like trying his hardest and he's gone on the record to say, you know, he's not he knows nothing else will happen. And he knows that he's never gonna convince Russell Westbrook dancers questions, but he just sort of doesn't want. He's sort of doing. He sort of continues to ask. So. That Westbrook doesn't decide to do it to somebody else after him. You know that that that the overall relationship between west broker the thunder in the media doesn't deteriorate further than it is right now in the whole situation, you seem sort of I mean, it's just deeply uncomfortable. It's just like the look on Westbrook's face. The whole thing is just hard to watch. Be a bear tremble will not ever be confused with Jim Acosta of Oklahoma City. He is definitely not that guy. But but his reasoning and he he he didn't interview. I saw was slate this week. Yes. Oh wrote a column about it his interactions with Westbrook earlier this month. You know, I do think it's about at the end of the day. A lot of people say why is this happening? Why why is so bad? You know as as something that buried Trammell wrote. It almost certainly is not something very Trimble road as he. I think he's even said this. He may have even said to me, he doesn't he can't believe Russell.

"You can follow him on Twitter at berry Trammell. My guest is berry traveled from the Oklahoma. And Barry how you doing extra? Joining me while you bet Alex I'm on my way to Portland as we speak. So to hear some background noise in Denver port. That's what it is. Well, I I appreciate you doing this during a layover making time for us. That means a lot your name has been in the headlines, recently Russell Westbrook has been refused to answer your questions for some time. Now anytime you ask something whether it's during these televised press conferences during the playoffs or in the locker room during be scrums. It's getting a lot of attention now. But when did this actually start, oh, this current rendition started in January or the answer to question of mine since January, but he's been upset with me on some level. For three or four years. Sometimes it's hard to really dissertation because he's usually upset with everybody in the media. He's not really helpful or you least bit charming or inciteful with anybody. But. In particular. He's been upset with me for three or four years. And now, you know, it's manifested in in the last three months with refusing to answer any of my questions last night westbound actually changes approach from next question too. That's a good question. I don't know where you're surprised to get a different response for once in. Why do you think he did that? I was surprised I wasn't expecting that. At all. I think he's I think he's getting some blowback from somebody. I don't know if it's the league. I don't know if it says age, I don't know why I don't know who it is. But you know, I think like when Steve Kirk comes out and says, this isn't a good thing. It's possible that got his attention. Steve pretty well. Highly regarded by the players around the league, I think so you know, I thought Russ kept just making himself look worse and worse than longer this went. And maybe he thought, you You know, I. I need to try to start moving to higher ground. And I thought he did a lot of ways. Now, he didn't give me any more answer usually does. But I thought his tone was semi cordial. You know? Yeah, I agree in in the past few weeks when he's when he talks he's defiant, cold and angry. And that wasn't what came across yesterday. So I took it as a sign of progress. I don't know if anybody else did. But I did know I certainly did I agree with his tone. And then the fact that he just didn't keep saying X question. The the mean that's progress. It has I think you you're right about the whole Steve Kerr thing. Guys, respect him. He came out and says dangerous for players to treat the media this way that the media is important for promoting stars..

"All rising the Detroit there plus seventy nine Detroit there plus seventy two in three game. You know? I don't know. I don't know what that matchup works. And if you ask me is everything behind them. I turn around to you. And I say how's the state of Kyrie irvings health? Well, mental and okay this easier player, and yeah, we gotta know is he content or is he miserable. Tony. He doesn't have time to be miserable in that series against Milwaukee. He doesn't well. They can do that off season season. Because okay, we all kept saying we kept giving them the following allowance. Well, can they flip the switch when it's time to flip it? Well, it looks like they have. Yes, we have they give Milwaukee. Kyrie's didn't have to be I mentally, and that's fine. So I think he will be don't you? I don't I don't know what he's going to be. But that the key to how good the Celtics will be his approach right and Gordon Hayward continuing to play like the old Gordon Hayward for this entire season. Russell westbrook. You'll boy you monthly dismissive of questions put to him by berry Trammell of the Oklahoma Westbrook has listened to travels questions and simply responded quote next question unquote after lost to Portland yesterday. Westbrook finally answered a travel question briefly would the words, quote, not sure unquote now Steve Kerr told the athletic that this next question. Type of response is quote dangerous for the league unquote curse said, quote, we're in an era where there's twenty four seven access and that access is what's driven revenue. So. Much and players need to remember that unquote will honor you with Kerr one thousand percent, but players do remember, let's not take where I might disagree with Steve only a little bit. I agree with his whole philosophy everything he said, but Russell Westbrook is an important to that. He's a wild card. He's a rebel. His brand is enjoyed by people who want him to say next question. That's that's what he does. I I see Paul George go down that drain because Paul Georgia's not that guy down the down easy..

"But again, how many times I have to give this speech? The NBA is in entertainment league are these reporters, including this guy. Berry Trammell are being paid to write about your price. So they're helping you sell the game. Little what these guys are doing is ridiculous little background on berry Trammell who asked the quest to the first two questions they've been inches throats for years. So very travel is a columnist for the Oklahoma. He's been covering sports in the state for forty years. Westbrook's one sided rivalry with Tam trammelled dates back to at least twenty fifteen when during a postgame scrum. He told the writer, I just don't like you. So for the last four years Westbrook is Nord or refuse to answer. Any and every question from this. Guy. I have been in those I've seen that happen in person. And it's just stupid as you heard trammelled question. It was completely innocuous exactly. And here's the thing in my ridiculous to suggest that if I'm out of silver, and they pull that crap again that I would find him. I would find I was not really. So let me play devil's, okay? Kate. We're requiring them to show up. Correct. Here's that was after a win believe it or not, right? We're requiring them to show up. Now, we can require them to talk. Yes. Like, we tell them what to say what to say. Like, you will go somebody answers. If somebody asks you a question, you're it's not just to show up. If somebody asks you a question like that. Yeah. It's not like that guy's not asking anything tough. That's like a so slow pitch softball pitch. Correct. To just hit out of the park. Take an anyway, the reason ESPN exists. The reason that these fifty websites that show up at these games to write about you. And cover you exist is there's a dance here. Right. These people are being paid to promote your game. And for you guys to treat them like that into say next question. It's just so in violation. What you and I always talk about is as the golden rule. Right treat other people the way you'd want to be treated, you know, imagine, nobody gave Westbrook or George the time. And why is George doing it now? And now, it's contagious. Here's the thing. I've told the star. You're listening Caspian, Los Angeles. I've told this story before you dispute it, but I'm gonna tell it again. Russell Westbrook came in studio one day, and he was good enough to answer questions. But as soon as we went to break, he became completely non-communicative as if we weren't even and I thought what a no. Every knows what. Yeah. It was such you know, what move. And the funny thing is I've told this before too like. Through a. Weird set of circumstances. I'm friends with Scott Brooks, the he went to UC Irvine. He hosts a fundraiser every year for the ethic department. I help MC the fundraiser. So I've gotten to know, Scott, right? So when they were playing golf golf tournament that's part of this thing. And I say to man Westbrook is so fun to watch. He's like playing high energy all the time. He's like he's playing at a different speed than everybody else. But he must be a bear to coach because he can be so prickly and Scott stopped. We were walking and he stopped. He goes, you could not be more wrong. I said what are you talking about? He's the best. He said three times. He's a best his best at what he goes. I gotta practice last guy to leave. If your car doesn't start. He'll throw you the keys to his car, and he'll figure out what to do later literally will give you the shirt off his back. I said what's the deal with the media goes, that's the one thing. He just hates the media hates them job..

"He's thirty percent in this these four games. Well, that's that's horrendous. It's just hard. You can't win. You can't overcome that. Because he shoots high volume and high volume MRs and it won't work because it's funny. Most great players get better at a skill over time. And he's getting worse as the shooter. Right. He's getting worse from the free throw line. He's made us free throws in the series. But he shot sixty six percent. So so to me. Especially in Oklahoma City. He's going to lose a little clout a little cachet a little bit of the past. He gets for the way he treats berry Trammell in the media, especially in Oklahoma City that it looks immature. And I don't know what I mean from what the stories I read tremble just asked him like a random regular for years. Right. Like, do you know berry? I know him. Yeah. Yeah. Just. Yeah. From you know, coming around the league. But it's that's that's what's really like again. I've made peace with Russell Westbrook is as a player you have to try to talk to him or. Yeah. We we've not never had any problems. We've talked a little bit here near but he's not out. Don't know if he has any really good relations with anybody in the media. He's a different type of guy like I've seen even around like at all star parties and stuff at all star weekend, and he'll be around this. But he's kinda to himself like with his family even at parties family there. So he's the. Different kind of guy. And a lot of times your greatest strengths. You know, there's a cliche, but it's true can be your greatest weakness on the court his strength. He's playing one hundred ten miles an hour the entire time which enables him the rack up these great triple double stats, but when it's crunch time in the game is close. That's when you need to play the different pays. He doesn't understand that. And even with a very trim like Westbrook. I believe he averaged about ten points as a junior in high school. So, and we know he wasn't that great at UCLA. Never caught mine. Right. So he I mean, he's always been about. I'm not doing what anybody else says, nobody can tell me anything because they've always told me, I can't do it at this level. I can't be a star, and that's a strength. But at the same time, it's a weakness because you don't listen to maybe coaching maybe other teammates. You don't understand in these press conferences, how bad this looks because you just doing what you wanna? Due lasting bring up on that. Remembering the twenty twelve finals NBA finals game two against Miami. When he had twenty seven points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and that it was but he shot thirty eight percent from the floor. And Magic Johnson said it was the worst performance he's ever seen by point guard define witness the first game at Miami. I don't think it was game two. They lost game two on that. Yeah. They LeBron got away with that non call the. Get away with that. Doing Dan did anything? Lebron actually hit a big free throw in that game. Did not did hear a bunch of big shots NBA finals MVP. But he fouled Durant. Remember on the? Yeah. Yeah. I remember that one Durant. I mean, they call it Westbrook said in response to Magic's criticism to while west was like, I'm not making any adjustments. You know, regardless of what anybody is I'm going to play my game, regardless of what happens might take it to, you know, the reporters they gotta do their job. You do yours. You ask an honest question. That's fair just answer. It. It does bother me. You doesn't look good at all. I agree. That's where it could hurt him with. I mean, I think they're always gonna love him because he stayed when he left and everything, but it's leeann wraps this thing up tomorrow..

"Over five or six times for game. You're not winning with that. And Kevin Durant. Tried to tell y'all say look y'all can call me what? Ever cabinet would have rather taken aback lashing the criticism for joining Golden State team. Then the stay there and try and figure out how can I win a title with this guy? Agree in where I part ways with Chris Broussard is. His legacy took a hit from me last night. And I can only speak for me in became a Russell Westbrook fan when Kevin basically left him high and dry in. Okay. See in I predicted going into that year. He's going to average a triple double. But I was looking at it as more of a solo act of defiance against the loss of Kevin Durant, and he pulled it off. But I can no longer defend three straight first round exits. What looks like it's going to be a four and twelve postseason record post K D. And to me last night was a legacy game for Russell Westbrook at home. And I really thought he would win it because he would just will it. He would just figure out some way to pull it off as he did game three on. What was it Friday night in? I think he shot the biggest hole yet in his legacy last night because really hit bottom in what bothered me the most was to thirty one left in the first half. Russell westbrook. Finally drains a deep three right Damian's fates. And if we could see that what does he do from that moment forward? South the court beating his chest screaming God knows what here it is. He's screaming to everybody. I think he's saying it's my house. I don't know what he's saying got. I don't know if we could repeat what he's saying. But but he's he looks like he just made the shot that one game seven of the finals. Right. And we know he's fuelled by emotion in its rawal rage in nobody plays harder every possession every single loose ball. We get all that. But it sometime at some point. You have to grow up and say, we got a lot of basketball left to play year, and these guys were up against shoot it. Right. So what happened from that moment forward in this basketball game eleven not happened because that was the Portland run up to half time and in that Levin. Nothing run. Russell Westbrook missed three shots and turn the ball over one. That's in the last two thirty one of that half. After that display. You just saw and then in the second half. Russell Westbrook scored a grand total love one point scored one. And second half. And meanwhile, Damian scores fifteen in the third quarter and CJ scores thirteen in the fourth quarter because they can just flat out shoot it and Russell shot himself in the foot and his team in all their feet because you live and die with him shooting. And he just shooting in the series now shot thirty six percent from the field twenty nine of eighty in from the three point line. He's thirty percent in this these four games. But it's that's that's what's really like again. I've made peace with who. Russell Westbrook is as a player tried to talk to him or. Yeah. We we've not never had any problems..

Please. She said. I don't like you. Okay berry. Let's start with that. Why doesn't he like you? Oh, I don't know. I actually don't believe Russ. I don't think he likes me or disliked me. He doesn't know me. You gotta know me to dislike me, so. I just think I'm sort of the figurehead for the media in general, and Russell likes to have enemies and the media is his enemy. What do you mean? He likes to have enemies. What does that mean? Well, you're seeing on the court Russell he likes to have huge. He have rivalries, you say, you know, Damian Lillard is current contemporary in this playoff series. He's been at war with Damian Lillard for six seven years, and as far as I know little it's never done anything to Westbrook likes to invent enemies. I think it fuels motivates even that's just sort of the way he goes about his basketball business initially. He was embraced our people tiring of the act. You know, what two three years ago, I would have been very unpopular guy in town. If I was at war with Russell Westbrook. People are a little tired of his act part of that. They're not winning as much art of that is just sort of say that he's being obstinate. I really haven't done. Haven't even really written much bad about that. So I think it is a little bit tiresome. All right. Did we lose berry Trammell? Do we still have him? I think you know. I think I'm discovering we have a remote. Microphone issue. What do you make of that fixing the cloud counter people have to get that? I don't think it's berry travels fault or Albert brewers. Maybe they do have the wrong WI fi password. I was so looking forward to this and bums me out. It's fascinating. I think that something he touched on is that if you'd gone after Westbrook three years ago. Yeah, it's interesting. I think people are tiring of it. You know, and the other thing Oklahoma City wasn't a very good team in the last like twelve games. And this has always been my thing with Westbrook. I think he's always great until the all star break. There's not a lot of pressure. It's kind of the experimental part of the season. And then you get to the all-star break in the trading deadline and games matter more and positioning. I don't know if Russell's DNA he is built for the intensity of the playoffs. Because I think he is held of throw this at you joy..

Maybe give us a good update on the thunder at that time because we might be in the in the postseason around me. Yeah. But in addition to some really good in informative senior focused issues. Yeah. Good. Keynote speaker definitely come and listen to him. And it's it's it's not all day. It starts in the morning goes to the middle of the afternoon. Think something like eight AM to four PM. That's pretty good. That's all just about all day. Yeah. It is about all day. But you know, if you're if you're if their caregiver, and or your, you know, if you know someone who has a caregiver, but if you just needed some information on senior, social security and Medicare assistance, you go for those to break out. There will be sponsor tables where you can come by. And pick up information on any number of sponsor. Absolutely. The place will be packed with. Well, we'll have several sponsor tables and during the lunch hour in between the breakout sessions that you know, this is where you congregate and then talk to the sponsors at their booth at your leisure. You know, inbetween or during lunch. It's kind of like a small convention or conference where there are trade show booths and then breakout sessions where you learn certain things, right? Very much like a small conference like that. Right. But it's all in for information driven, right? There's you know, when you go to a lot of places there's. They're trying to sell you something. Right. There's there's no it's so strong arm, and you got to do some planning and some of these issues where money's going to be spent. Correct. However, you're not going there to buy products for anything by any solutions. You're gathering information to solve for the problem that you might be going through. That has no you have no idea about and you need to go to that specific breakout session, right? And are no hard cells and any of these. I mean, no one is no one saying, hey, if you act today, you'll get this. Oh, absolutely. Not this is no, no, no. It's all information. It's all it's all informative do with as you. Please. Correct. I went to it last year. I went around I was taking pictures and got to go into virtually every one of the breakout sessions, and it was quite impressive. I got to say, it was very impressed. And we added a little bit more time last year, given the the amount of people that came last year, and I was in. I believe the the Medicare breakout session with Ray Walker, and we gave we we've given those breakout sessions a little more time with given them fifteen minutes or maybe even thirty, but they'll have more time to to cover their content that a little bit more QNA at the very end. Right. And and that Cuban as I think one of the the more valuable. Aspects of these things because everyone has questioned and you may not realize you have a question until you hear someone else asked question. And you think oh, yeah. I wondered that too. Sometimes when you're little field for all of raising your hand. But someone else is going to answer ask the question that you might want right and sticking around just to hear the Q and A is very very good. Right. So again this. Senior day spring training fourth quarter of your life may the tenth. So put that on your calendars now plan for it. I know it was pouring rain the morning and always pouring rain. Anytime we make an event April March, April is always. Yeah. It's torrential downpour. So we're gonna see there because it's a good day. It is a good day. It is a good day. It's for twelve dollars. You're going to get all the bang for your buck, right and lunch with with berry Trammell as the keynote speaker, which is worth more than twelve dollars. Just that right there. Yeah. Yeah. That's right. The last year, they they set it up to where if you just had the the morning hour between eight to noon, you know, you can you can hear the one of the keynote speakers one of the speakers and then jump into a couple of the breakout sessions. Yeah. And then in the afternoon, so what would be the same thing. The way it was formatted last year. Yeah. Hey, I want to change tax a little bit tight take a little bit of executive privilege and talk about okay? See town hall. Okay. Just for a moment. There was one of the lectures, townhall has been around for eighty seven years. It's a lecture series. That brings in think about six speakers over the course of nine months and they're fascinating. And they're they're held at church of the servant this year. And will be again next year, the one we had just the other day with was a fine art appraiser Meredith, Molly, and she was so delightful talking about the world of fine art what? But but that one has passed so I don't wanna dwell anymore. Interesting topic though because that was her career. That's that's what she did. Pretty young only about forty but managed she'd done a lot of things but the next one coming up on April eighteenth. So this one's coming up in just about a month is Shelly Finley, and she's a professor at university of Oklahoma in geo carb science GIO carb science, and she's a native of of Oklahoma. She has been teaching at oh you for a while. Now, she has done working at Artika and all kinds of places she teaches physics and astronomy. And she has a chief the honor of having an asteroid named after her. It's not that many people can say that. That's right. Asteroid twenty five eighty six. Shelly Hines is the name of it. And it was discovered in nineteen ninety eight and named in honor of her dedication to her students. So she'll be coming up at o'casey townhall on April eighteenth, her speech will begin at ten thirty in the morning that will be at the church of the servant and registration for that is thirty dollars. And the you can stick around and have lunch for another twenty five dollars and have a chance to ask her questions. Yeah. So you get to meet her and they're also promoting the next season, which I don't have any of that information in front of me. But it is an incredible season. That includes art Laffer renowned economic economist who created supply-side economics. He's on like to hear that couple of author's killers of the flower moon and BoomTown those authors along with some other, folks. So. That music means that we're about to take another break. We're going to take a short break. You.

"Single family housing units at a projected completed cost of four hundred sixty minute minutes. Million of, course chip address the fact that it's for the arena to be. Built they want to use tax increment, financing which means Dedicate a portion, of the, tax, to building the arena but I found myself when I was reading for this interview tip to. Be surprised, at what berry Trammell and Steve lack Meyer addressed which was the. Intent correct me this is what I, read that Young people are not finding ways to. Stay in Norman like when I went to oh you it was you went to you, you went to college and then if you could find a job in. Norman or you would stay in the college town because college stands are so hip and happening and that has changed now because a, Norman has not has, grown according. To those gentlemen is that true And that is that is certainly partially true and that's that's a part of of the vision that we want to address what we've. Had, is, is Brinkley it's the success of Oklahoma City maps and twenty years of investment. In in Oklahoma City that has led to the revival of, the, positive district of midtown of, the per se. Oh and others and where it used to be that that you either stayed in Norman, or a lot of kids when when I was getting out of, college in the early nineties when my friends oh you they were heading. To Dallas as quick as, they could, or Denver, Seattle Phoenix now we. See more and more. Of of our graduates from oh you staying in the state which is great but so many of them are moving Oklahoma City and and many. Have jobs in woman but they're living in Oklahoma City and part of what we believe. The entertainment district Kicked, will, create in some of the, new urbanism housing. And the multifamily housing that we envisioned around it is to provide the type of environment, that those people don't feel like they need to move to Oklahoma City don't stay Rather now, which leads me to this, question that the website does address our other college towns having this same realization I mean if you think, of, Lawrence Kansas when I think of Lawrence. Kansas it was acquaint Ivy you know place Columbus Ohio was it's a city but it was more college town or other college towns having to kind of look at this and go well we need to get with. It too And we are seeing that across the country and the number of in-use. Certainly in hell universities are getting students to stay, engaged in sporting events oh. You students, have not been attending. Basketball games like they used. To in the. Past part of that is there have you got spoiled with offender but it's a trend that they see. Across the country and so that's. Part of why Joe Castiglione athletic department sees a need to create more, of an, environment than entertainment before and after games so you. Don't just. Have, to, drive away. Noble get, out of your car walk inside go to the game get back in the car got back home you've. Got something, to do before and after, or, maybe you're just walking across, the, street to the guy, so really, concrete that, football mentality and I mean, by spend the whole day in Norman on game down kinda right and we need to do for the, other, sports that's great yeah yeah that's right And it's it's something going back to the millennial comments that both very Trammell. And and Steve my written on and the transcripts, as well the school district. Dr Nick, arena at the Norman. Public schools is a huge. Fan of this. Because Norman enrollment has been flat the past couple of years and the pipeline of new families moving into. Town and children in the school. Is not growing and it's and it's Frankie and if it weren't person, transfers and, so he sees a development like this not only. Lifting the. Tax, rolls, for them Feeds school district but, those kids in the pipeline and. Allows an opportunity for Norman north Norman high, basketball game to be played in an arena When new students being able to see a really classy will topnotch arena well and Moore's halfway more is booming they can go south for entertainment just as easily as they can go north oil that and that's another thing that's driven MRs, Moore's been..
