"So we got very yes Michael it's me how are you I'm good how are you the fighting the battle the way everybody's healthy do you remember me of course I do buddy do you remember my afternoons can call when we got Parker drunk on duty are we on the air yes maybe I should respond well I must tell you that you you know it to be the case because I was a frequent patron of your wonderful establishment which you had for thirty seven years and my wife texted me using exclamation marks which he never does Aries pizza has closed is indeed correct Michael well my heart goes out to your home I will know it went on your Facebook page last night and now I saw that being a luddite like myself you probably not very good with technology so a young woman said this is buried shoulders and she is he is the owner of berries pizza and he's gonna have some words for you and this was at the beginning of the corona virus and and you made a valiant attempt talk to me about where your mind was when when this started because you looked a little you look hello he looked terribly concerned but you were given it a go you're trying to sell pizzas out front door talk about that if you would okay Michael you know the restaurant business and I'll be brief I don't need to put on a lecture the restaurant business is a cash flow business right this month's revenue pays last month's bills so if you cut your revenue off drastically or completely you're still faced with a world renowned taxes and all the other stuff and so if you reduce your revenue in my case I need I needed I needed full full bore I needed for delivery for pick up in full dining rooms to to operate profitably you know it's a very very low margin business and looked in the corner on mon was enormously expensive to operate not just rent rent was very fair but you know there's there's taxes there's insurance there's utilities is all of these huge expenses for building about size and age and they occur regardless now we put the numbers two six my wife and I she's a CPA we put the numbers to a six ways from Sunday based on the volume that we could do with a pickup and delivery we were looking at it just enormous losses on a monthly basis you know tens of thousands because it's it was like you know forty percent of what we worry we're doing so it's just the numbers could not work based on based on the volume that we could see with pick up and delivery and then there's the other thing that you know after you open who's out there that has any money and who's out there that has been the trusted in restaurants you know of restaurants are opening restaurants are opening at twenty five and fifty percent capacity increase to continue to do that they have to have deep pockets because they're not going to make money doing it if that makes any sense to me so since World in thirty seven years this is the kind of thing Tillman for Tina doesn't but most guys independent gas don't did you were you able to chew tell me out of every dollar that came through the cash deal what's your profitability was on the do you know two to five percent so less than ten percent will say that is consistent I have asked a lot of people on there an officer to go through their numbers and I'm certain you know by the time and I say this on here to the point that I think people are tired of hearing me say but I won't understand it by the time you you look at your loans in and your rent and your insurance and your all the regulatory environment in all your labor costs and everything that goes into that and then you look at at the profitability it's so much lower and so that's what I wonder if people realize you know when you ring up ten dollars you just made a quarter on that I think people would be a lot less likely to run home and get on yelp and go well I would have put more pepper brownies out there if they understood what a grind dissing yes and that doesn't account for a seasonal are you know this is a hundred year flood this this this is this corona viruses is as bad as it gets our how hard was this for you after thirty seven years close to you know maybe this is this this was my heart and soul for thirty seven years this was my wife's work right and it's it was the hardest decision I've made in my professional career I've opened and closed restaurants and everything else which is business the to the to close my flagship in close close the operation that I have been nurturing in trying to build for all of my adult life was devastating it's devastating you know we're going to keep the we are going to keep the berries brand alive you know and there isn't hardly a possibility that we will do something with it again but the numbers just did not work at this location hello we have just a moment with me just a moment very children's.

"This on a big stage. I'm sure there's things he would have done differently in them sure. There's things that he did. The right way and people misunderstood him but the fact that he was always such a good person you heard anyone say was a bad person comes from a great family and it sucks when really good people get a really bad rap almost like the way I was talking about mark before so the fact that this film was able to just open people's eyes just how incredible and special he is and the film is is just been really rewarding for me professionally and personally you know one of the great basketball unknowns of like the last thirty years is what would have happened. If steph stayed Minnesota like you know that was a team on the rise you know. Look like they had you know. Kevin Kevin Garnett and Steph had great encore chemistry and then three years you know steph decided they want to go back home to do something else. I mean that. That's I don't know about you but as a as a for you as a New Yorker watching that I mean that I will always wonder what that team could have been because how great. Kevin Garnett was great. Stefan Marberry was. That was a team. That could have won championships. You know if it was built outright. Yeah yes I thought about that. They were also like you know the the West was getting really tough Obviously shacking Kobe. Were there But I guess a few years later Kobe Miami. But the the thing was you're right they could have been pretty special. I don't think that's I I'm not I don't. I'm not putting them in the same class as like. Ross Kevin and James you know it wasn't like bad But I think in in in it's funny because Stefan what I've realized really was doing a lot of things before other people were doing them he had a TV show in two thousand six. I don't know if you knew that he had his own show. Is On platform use interviewing guests interview with Kobe. Once did a bunch spike Lee. He had the star Berry brand. That you know was very Controversial but point incredibly successful. He also left a team at a young age with another great player where they were winning and he left because he didn't want to be in Minnesota anymore any day. What was best for him. And advocated for himself is much as a fans are upset. League was upset. He did what was best for himself now. That's the norm. That's everybody does and we would have expected him to leaf. If it was today we would have said. Yeah we use in Minnesota. They'll probably leave in two years and when I go back home I play for a big market and that ultimately cagey wanted to leave too But it was interesting to see all that because when.

"We are back it is yes indeed your buddies your garden buddies John McMaster talk to Palafox on primates it is going to mereka in again thank you so much broadcasting live here from my San Diego the I hurt media and entertainment studios Facebook live questions comments and just before the break we noticed a question from my genesis tiger no John John sorry John you got the question go ahead well Gee whiz asking to most Holly's need a pollinator by golly to get and that's a great question in it I lex aqua fully him which is the English folly all need they all need pollinators because you have dioecious plants there male and female right and only female plants will have very so if you put in mail Holly plants they will never embarrass on when you think the males are have berries so different situation only the females get the berries brand so and you only need one male plant for about ten female plants that's your like your old lifestyle so I like cycle fully in that's true ilex core nuda which are the Chinese Hollies are usually self fertile and and most highlights the corners of our Grenada's do very well in California so I think there's a variety called chancellor which is god really highly likely and and plenty of berries and then the one we were talking about the California Holly the talking on here is self fertile also yeah that when you know that'll produce a lot of berries yeah and they get to a big bush I've bigger bush I was I was gonna say I don't think I've seen and I X. as big as the toy on you know it's a very large tribe to remember when we were in England okay and we saw the English colonies that were like twenty three thirty four I don't know yeah their trees in England there she okay yeah not so big in California but I never seen it like that here American Holly which is not usually grown commercially but American Holly also gets makes a nice size tree but the Chinese Hollies are all going to stay small finally American or the English trial a solid cycle fully Ms used to be years ago the two varieties that you would stand nurseries were blue boy in blue girl and so you would always want to make sure that you got at least wanted to avoid for every ten blue girls in your house that's right yeah so anyway I hope that answers Jan's question on the Holly is best known as the harem species well what else do we have going John any nobody likes to email you anymore doesn't make you know it makes me feel really good one where there's only one spot yes look for question exactly if you want to post a question Facebook we're here for yes let me explain this to you one more time branch anybody who hears us to live on Facebook exactly so there would be no reason email me when you could just post your question their interest however even if we were off the air and the strange when emails yet that question might give answer me that during the week by you or you'd save it and bring it in an answer right but I'd really rather not do that yes that's a huge inconvenience we want we want to inconvenience you we want to make comfortable week ahead of you create for you to have to think about the show yeah I don't think my Friday you know what I can always you know I am I'm being selfish there right being funny we because I can always forward that email to you and he will get answered immediately there you go I mean we get we get messages during the week I know I have to I have to say that really tiger is probably the best person to answer questions he does a great job whenever we get an email question especially trees I know you to fall trees to treason landscaping are you sure you see what he's doing exactly what he's doing no I'm serious I'm serious I had my a lot about tiger is a matter of fact but if you want to know the history the genius of the Latin terms that's John that now sure anything else a terror yeah let me know I would agree if you you know we have a two hour show right but after the show we sometimes have a podcast which were doing today yeah and if you so if you stay on today if you're interested I think with the first in a three part series are we going to do here here again okay so that's going to be today podcast of a drip irrigation right part series I think so I don't know if it covers the three part covers all your Dacian or what we'll just keep doing it too we cover everything but that's gonna be after the show so after the show's over and at the top of the hour give us a couple of minutes for you to read to all and again the podcast today starting a drip irrigation yet again do want to remind people that all the podcast and all the shows in our you tube channel you can fast forward you don't have to listen to the commercials would go to our YouTube channel guards America radio and please do subscribe now that said we've run some spots this morning John about a European trip but I want you to talk about to Europe in twenty twenty with Gardner mereka us to where we going we're going to Prague for going to are ending up in Prague Czech Republic the capital right we're gonna start though in Slovenia we're gonna start to really start right in the capital Ljubljana and going to lake bled to clear his throat there you go that a boy why I get all choked up when I talk about because I've been a lake blood before and I think it's the most beautiful place on earth that I've ever visited it's it's really exciting they'll go in and will be in the Julian Alps for the international wild flower festival you know we talked last week about how there were is either sixty or eighty species of wild orchids in the Julian Alps I don't know if we'll see any or not you never know what's gonna be blooming that time here but didn't question these particular work it's how the survivor grow in that area of the world we talk about well we talked about how they were mostly terrestrial hearty or it's maybe that's what you're hearing to but there I think that they're really cool yeah and we mentioned there are a lot of lady slipper orchid but you know a lot of other things too that it grow native up there hello borders cyclamen I'm in here even a few species of roses the cool thing about the cycle men is that I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of people don't always think of fragrance recycling there's a lot of varieties that have really good fragrance as well well this species cyclamen are small flowers to their little tiny plants but you know if you get down there put your nose on their extremely fragrance and then then we're going from there to Austria wow and then you know all along will be doing touristy type things like beer and wine tastings in Austria we're gonna visit the royal Lipton's honor stud farm right are they still are studying there you know that that it might be a good idea to watch that movie before you go on the trip the miracle of the white stallions which was a Walt Disney movie and one of the I think maybe the only Walt Disney movie that was you know a true story type documentary thanks but the White stallions almost disappeared during World War two you know speaking of that there was a documentary the late fifties and I want to see nineteen fifty nine a Disney it was about lemmings and how remember they show the lemmings committing mass suicide and jumping off the water that wasn't true right that's what I heard to the date they don't do that so I'm gonna look into that it's only when you build a fire behind those yeah but I heard the same thing that they don't commit mass suicide by jumping off a cliff and then we end up in we end up in Prague which is the capital of the Czech Republic which is reputed to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe it will be visiting gardens castle gardens and things during that whole time so it's going to be packed with all kinds of things sure I will but it's going to be a lot of it will include a castle or two here and there all cancel yeah your money is that they don't call them councils that they just now old house we're all looking at it like that's a council the winter home white castle will we see the white yes I know we have to go to Detroit for the at the airplane exchange right exactly but one more year when we arrived in Lake Placid in which it will be the first two or three days there's a a lake there in the center of the lake is an island with an old monastery on it but in the mountains right by the side of the lake up on top which we will probably visit is a castle probably go there I don't know yet I'm not sure where we're going anyway if you want to sign up Brian go to earth bound expeditions dot com right earth bound expeditions dot com right you know I don't know is that on our website yeah can you can you through that link on our Facebook yes tiger I'll do that so in earth bound expeditions dot com when you go there and they have different parts of the world click on Europe and when you click on Europe you'll see the European trips in the garden American one is right there okay got a break coming up that which means that after the break it is our final segment on this and Saturday morning or Saturday afternoon depending upon where you are so again that Johnny guard America dot com although we like to discourage that your best bet of course we urge you to us post your questions your comments right here on our Facebook page I'm Brian main target Palafox John Bagnell skill happy Saturday happy weekend hope things are going well for you thank you for your support D. a year ago at the poker table yep and met him in his wife and we had a great conversation I was working at another station at the time and we started off doing a weekly show and I thought it would turn into something great I didn't think it would turn to something this fast what I mean but as we started doing this weekly thing that we started doing it our day during the week then all of a sudden we're going to two hours a day and now all of a sudden we're going to three hours a day nine AM to noon if you ask me what will you know give me give me a time slot that would be it it's great yeah in one year the show has well roughly fifteen months the show has progressed from a once a week on a Sunday night type of deal two three hours every day in the prime time slot in the next and probably the fastest growing market United States of America and one but one thing Brian did not tell our listeners is that I gave him ten winners in a row Major League Baseball because I'm a I'm a professional sports better handicapper I moved here two years ago mama Brzeska moved in may of two thousand seventeen I believe I met Brian probably maybe August or September of that same year but I gave Brian it was either nine in one or ten and strewn in Major League Baseball in that kind of started our budding friendship slash radio relationship well listen when I hear somebody is a sports handicapper I think they're full of do do usually when they say that I'm like yeah right it's another guy who's trying to cells picks is lying who probably does you know and then and then you gave me a bunch relocate this is guy knows what he's doing and not only that there is a site called Capper tech dot com more people sports handicappers can go there and they can post their plays have a third party source yeah to look at it and I was number one in the world on that side of the enzymes that help to yeah yeah so anyway I didn't know we were gonna go that much in detail about your sports handicapping but Hey that is true that that is a true story and now here we are and I'm really excited and I want to thank a few people beside you of course JD I want to thank the people here Kate on and and Beasley broadcasting John Schaefer is a fantastic program director he came to Kate on with me fourteen years ago I work for them and I'm so happy to say that he's gonna jump with us on the air when we start this morning thing he's gonna be our I guess our robin quivers so to speak to it to an extent he's gonna be our news anchor and I'm really excited about that John is a great guy he does a really really good job here and like I said we just want to thank everybody in this building that been very supportive of what we're doing and it's a great feeling and not only that but contributors to the show like Chris Wynn who sitting next to me absolutely and Feldman Jamieson Welsh Ron few trial the list goes on and on and on all you guys have been instrumental in helping us you know build a fan base in a listenership in getting us to this point by the way how dare you not bring up the golf group day said obviously Dennis so I'm just Dennis we love it now that all you're right good point all the people that come on our show they're all part of that is certainly all of you out there listening and you're part of it as well so again let me mention this one more time will remind you guys don't worry but the show is going to be expanding to three hours were moving nine AM to noon and that is starting Monday August twelfth we could not be more excited about it we're so happy I'm getting I can't wait it's gonna be a lot of fun but I can promise you one thing we're gonna work our **** off to make this the best show in Las Vegas I mean that whole heartedly we are going to work our **** off to give you the best content to bring you the best gas and opinionated talk radio and it's not going to change from my standpoint I'll tell you that right now I'm always gonna say things on there that I believe what do you like it or not it's always gonna be opinions and we're always going to take your phone calls and hear your side of things and everything we say we believe also this is gonna give us opportunity get a lot of guests that right now like entertainers were were performing at casinos all over the city they're gonna be like right now during our show there on stage well I know Jake will get a chance to get them in the morning because they're not going to be on stage I know JD for months has had his heart set on Barry Manilow Mantello Newton goes on and I don't know I was the way news a sleep Russia that's a great point OG because there are so many functions that go on in this town which her eyes are on the air between six and eight o'clock right that you have not had the opportunity to go and actually you know either cover or have an option let's not get people on your for your show I like my beloved aces I had a choice to watch enough of their games this year and will actually yeah watch she be able to go to some pain too so so anyway a lot of fun we're looking forward to it folks we appreciate all your support and we hope that in August you will switch over and listen to us up mornings nine AM to noon starting August twelfth it's gonna be a lot of fun if you're worried other gonna change their show around at all not for the most part our show is going to remain the same like I said like we start up our show take on Vegas you know from Vegas you won't you won't really get anywhere else and so appreciate that and now let's get down to business folks and let's start with what is the news of the weekend and I I believe it to be very very important because I think it shows the true colors of her president he he said some things on Twitter over the weekend that you certainly could could make as racist statements of what I'm talking about what he's talking about and what what we're all talking about here is the four democratic Congress woman that he went after on Twitter saying go back to your crime infested places but go back to your country go ahead make your country better then if you want you can come back you wanna absolute Twitter tangent regards to democratic representative Alexandra because you're Cortez econ Omar she had to leave and I got a Presley now why is this important well first of all let's just speak fax okay three of those four women this is how idiotic the president is three of those four women were born in the United States of America okay they weren't born somewhere else because you're Cortez's from New York they were born in this country and Omar became a U. S. citizen she came as a refugee when she was a teenager so you want to talk about it on the ignorant racist statement that is exactly what the president said isn't it in it least in my personal opinion we have two different Americans in this country and it shows you how divided we are as a country what do I mean by that well in one America you know people reacting with shock about the president's racist tweets right I mean I I think we all in this room could there are are surprised and we think it's disgusting and then in in in another America people are not saying anything there are many Republicans out there that are not opening up their mounts because I call them Howard's in one American people seem to speak out and protest you know after the president claims.

"Your high school. Your town, hiring are prowls and the reaction to people would have this was it turned out to. I mean had we said, on Thursday or Friday. Wow. There's a story that are former Baylor coach who was fired in horrific scandal. I mean, it's this is not he recruited some guys who took some beer money is a horrific scandal of sex assaults on a campus that the probably should have done in a bunch of careers. Not just his. I don't know if this is one of our deals with rural versus city. I don't know if this is one of those deals, but did you see the comments of other Texas high school football coaches of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram put out today, and they were almost uniform going? Yeah. Yeah. Right. He was railroaded. He was railroaded. Let him coach leading coach. Right. I know we're a nation of second chances. We done that maybe maybe enough time has passed, but, but you didn't have to do that. I mean no. It's a high school. The guy. Got paid. He's not it's not like the guys carrying a cardboard box on the mar right now get over probably fifteen. That's obviously, this is what he loves to do. What he wants to coach and even likes to coach high school football that I'm not even asking the question about him. The question is about you and your school, right? And to think that so many other places said note, we're just not going to go here. I don't want the blowback other places on the college, and the brunt actually level. Canadian professional lemonade was a Canadian Hamilton, tiger cats for like two hours until the blowback came. Yeah. And he had to take this job in, in Florence Italy. Yeah. I, I know my answer is. I wish the guy well, we don't why do we want this? This is a high school how many of us want explain the story. And after defend their position to, I don't want to go here. Yeah. Let somebody else go here. It'd be my answer. There are other coaches out there. That would just be my answer. This is not worth the legitimate issues that come with it. Don't say people are just raising. Hell, are you kidding me? The baiter scandal came and went surprisingly quietly. Baylor, does a good job at at things under the university, just when you thought maybe they had sort of settled on the idea. Let's all get outta here. He poured gas on it in a horrific television interview, where he just play dumb acted. Like it didn't have horrible interviews. Yeah. And look, I don't blame you know, I know our Brian had sued the school and felt like that he was dumped largely dumped on him. And I think he ended up being kind of face of the story, which is not fair. Thank god. If I was parent, or a school board, member, I'd say, look, I don't care about the particulars. I don't want it knows thanks. He has been the most punished of everybody in this, because right like we said in McCall got a job. The Ken Starr is still on the news, making comments about special prosecutors and stuff. Enough time has passed where but he's no longer a college longer. College president where the football coach the head football coach right up until last Friday, couldn't get a decent job is assistance, had Florence Italy. Yeah. That's doing man. That would be either coveted, saying, if I lived in mount, Vernon Texas, I would be Sam sorry, the guy with fourteen million dollars leaving Florence to come here. Yeah. What wants to coach he wants and that's great. And that's. I said, I, I wouldn't want to answer for I wouldn't want to have the discussion. I wouldn't want the scrutiny I wouldn't want to have to explain it, and they voted seven zero. Seven zero because they want to win. They wanna win. And they're gonna win to sure they're gonna win these great coach. I still think he like you say he was the face of the franchise. He took the brunt of the, the stigma the scarlet letter of Baylor. Right. Maybe maybe he deserved it. Maybe he didn't deserve it deserve some of it. I it's there was a plane. In the scandal itself, even when he didn't handle things, the right way, even when he suggested, which is what was reported. Hey, come onto this really happen and sort of suggesting the cop, she looked the other way, you know, he never advocated rape. You never advocated these assaults. He didn't go there. So in the grand scheme of things his bosses really should have. Hello. Hey, I think is bosses were, they should have held the pay. They should be more responsible than the football coach. Still a horrible story is was stuck to the thing getting around. It was multiple faults. It was gang raped. Yeah. Yeah. Was is back on a couple of victims showed up in court, and it took a nurse to come forward and say, what do you mean? We have the physical evidence. Texas monthly story that blew it wide open, and it was a trial. And some of these guys he recruited were guilty of the crimes. Yeah. These women were were were completely wronged by the university who didn't believe them more so than art Brian's. See, that's what our is still. It was his shop, as it went down the chain or went up up the flagpole. Yeah. I think the one that went up to flagpole, that's when they took the dean of students of the vice presidents of president looked the other way didn't did pursue it on for the lust of winning brand new football stadium and all that. Just again answer as a public high school. I'd, I'd hear the other arguments, and I'd say, I respect what you're saying about the guy respect that he may have been unfairly criticized. I respected he was stuck with his face being attached to this. But I'm sitting here is three high school in Texas in its public school. And I don't want it go. Find another coach. I don't care if we go six and six it's not worth the hassle. I don't want explain this probably the principal squad wouldn't want to explain this. I feel I mean he's gonna spend half you would think half the time when you're trying to explain what really happened there. Really happened there in the bottom line is some horrible things. All right. Eight three six zero five ninety toll free eight seven seven five nine zero k LBJ. I don't get the Beto berry brand. It's just not working. So the stories keep coming. And it doesn't cut through the clutter. So now there is an HBO documentary running with Beto. And even when I say it, you dislike the newness of the whole thing, just doesn't even feel when he was running Theodore crews Raphael cruise the one of the candidates. Yeah. There were some, some novelty to there was some sex appeal to there was some interest to it. You say now there's just it's not work. I don't even have all the answers. It just doesn't seem to be working. So running with Beto is a documentary, assume his failed bid against texts against Raphael cruise in it. He apologizes to his staff for quote. He says, I feel he's being a giant black hole during the competitive high pressure race. I feel very, very lucky. I love you guys you'll ever know he tells his staff on election night after it was announced that Ted Cruz had won reelection. I know I was a giant black hole to be around sometimes. And you all never allowed by shortcomings to get in the way of running the best campaign. It's this constant behind the scenes. Look that just still doesn't seem to be happening. It's not getting any traction on the national saying they're making fun of him. Little the pack. Yeah, they're making fun of. There's a show on HBO called something about. It's about President Trump and this past weekend show will help, Johnny confided. They had like a round table. The Democrats, and they were making fun of Beto because he was going can't, we have a meeting come to some can they the minute you become a joke. I think you're done that position is impossible to get out of I e Rick Perry, and I'm not saying you didn't deserve a non saying Beto is gone to the land of Rick Perry. But when you become a joke, right? You're not taking serious. And you're right. This bet though things. This man he will have his moments. He had a moment last week with his town hall that people said he really wow them, but they're few and far between and with Joe Biden so far ahead and Benard there and. Pete's just he's got the game and replaced him as a fair haired guy. He really has. It's just funny to see it's like he keeps tried really working hard and guerrilla marketing the sorta become relevant on guys. I think wait a minute. I came with an eyelash winning Texas. Right. What the heck but for some reason, it's just not resonating anywhere else. Really? Yeah. It's a crowded field. It is such a crowded field. I think it's just not enough oxygen. It just doesn't feel like there's enough oxygen. He is in danger of becoming just another guy a former former politics, all holidays to how he is. Now is the guy that almost beat Ted Cruz. That's it. That's it. That's the only story line which is precisely what he didn't think this would be. And I think most of the I didn't think it would did not like this. I didn't think he'd stay in the middle of the pack, and he sort of falls in line with the guys. All Bill white, the former mayor Houston almost beat Rick Perry. Right. Wendy off, she Jeeves. She was hot for a while. Sharon. Niran. K. LBJ. Sharon, you're on kale Chang. Sharon, how are you? I would be your cue to. Oh, my, my radio is very loud. Some. Actually understand what you're what you're strong ardor some stand against our brows is. Because you so many times in your rhetoric today. Said that he was only part of it. He he wasn't hard enough is my answer. Part of it. Hang on Sharon, I respect your position. And I, I don't know that there's a black, there's not a black and white answer to this. This is up to opinions and I respect that my answer is if I were on the school board or if I were a parent or if I'm just Joe citizen or talk show host and was asked, what do you think of this? My answer would be he wasn't just the face of it, but he was part of it, and it's too horrific and there are too many people looking the other way, the retu- many credible accusations of looking the other way that I wouldn't want my school to go here. The story follows him and it's not a story of I had a decision that I would want follow to my school..
