Invasion of the jumping worms

"Worms jump anwar. Yeah what's up with these worms. They are a big news story over the past couple of months even few past years now and they're all over the mid west kansas missouri wisconsin minnesota even as far east as new york state. And they're kind of a big deal here. Why why are they such a big deal. That like news is covering them. I mean first off worms are just cool. I don't know where you've been but these jumping worms there really weird. There's there broncos the weirdest worms you've ever seen and we really don't know that much about them their mysterious they're moving fast and they're changing our ecosystems so it's okay so so the weirder thing sounds a lot more fun than the invasive part. Let's start with the fun part about the fund what makes them so weird Yes so i talked to bernie williams. She's at the wisconsin department of natural resources and If you a worm problem. She's the person to call. We had a homeowner in a really urban area of madison. Give us a call on friday afternoon. You know when you really just wanna go home from work. She's very upset. So it's like us share houses drive by on my way home and she had millions literally millions of worms just pouring out of her landscaping covered. Her driveway they were all up and down this street in the gutters just rising for some people that might be really unpleasant. Thin you would. You would run away. But i was really intrigued. Like wow look at those stomach worms. They can grow to be or to eight inches long. They move like a snake when they get startled or harassed a fresh around almost like a snake would. I'm hoping joke. He was jumping all over. The place seem now move like a snake to these worms. Actually jump that jumped. They wriggle basically you think of like a normal worm. Just sorta like scrutiny around in the dirt these guys come up across one of them they like freak out and start wiggling all over the place jumping out of your hands. They're hard to hold onto and they're a lot more monthly than you'd

"$1,000,000 a year under a new three year deal and includes a raise of more than $800,000. The deal comes after Sark easy and flirted with the Colorado head coaching job right now 71 partly cloudy. Next news at seven. I mean, T nor fell on Alabama's morning news now back to your host J T. All right, Andrew. Thank you very much. It is 6 35 Alabama's morning news coming up here in just about five minutes or so. I'm going to be talking with Dr Steve Turley PhDs and internationally recognized speaker and also, you know, Ah, Scholar on what's happening in the political world right now. Do you remember the polling numbers? They were out? 2016 showing that Hillary Clinton would beat Donald Trump. Well, that didn't work out so well. So what about the polling numbers? Now? That's saying Biden is leading? Well, we'll find out if there really or not, And what else might be a good indication as to who will win this presidential race? So that is coming up in just about five minutes. I think you'll like that one here. Switching gears system it, you know, we think about poor memory these days and I tell you, there are times where I'm like. How did I not remember that you know, and Judy looked at me like seriously. You don't remember things like no. Honestly, I don't. Well, we generally think of it, You know, it's do the old, you know, getting older and an aging right, But there's more to brain health in that. And it's a matter of treating it like you. Do you know the rest of your body, the experts say healthy habits make healthy gray matter. So sports neurologist, Dr Bernie Williams says. We shouldn't make it a focus of our life instead of waiting until something goes wrong. Where to start? Well, here's some tips and tricks, courtesy. The experts on better memory for you, no matter what age you read and Better to start now. So when you do get a little older things will be a little bit better points. So first of all, they say, balance your dietary diet is really important to you Got to get the fruits and veggies in there. Eat healthy. Just eat healthy, get enough exercise. That means moving at least 30 40 minutes a day. Something go walk, get up and move. And if you could do a little bit more than that, awesome get enough sleep. We talk about this all the time, and it's tough. For folks that get Oppa's early is, you know we do to try and get that sleep. You know naps, and they're still saying seven or eight hours during the solid sleep, not three or four to our brackets. It's more like what I'm doing Also, don't try to multi task so much, You know, just focus on one thing. We wander the next thing. Ah, A lot of people have three or four things in their mind going, OK? Got to get this done this and and and they're trying to do him all at once. Next thing you know, none of it gets done and your brain's freaking out going. What are you doing? Just give me one thing to focus on right balance your stress, too. Finding stress in your life, Get up and get out and that goes back to the exercise, Walk and get moving and breathe some good air outside play. Braingames learned some new things. There's all kinds of great abs to play a great game. Games for your brain and exercise your brain like that. Also. They say, write things down. Just just write things down. And that way, you know you can refresh your memory by looking at it as opposed to stress and your brain, not even working. Remember that? Why didn't I write it down? Oh, I know I'm guilty. I'm guilty. So that helps a little bit. 6 37 Alabama's morning news either.

"Just. Pure cheese safe up the cheesy piano and today it sounds exactly and looks exactly like a soap. Exactly I'm definitely feeling like this stuff. Just from that ten minutes alone. That's all I felt I felt like it felt like a TV movie actually felt like it was supposed to be a TV. Movie. It never felt like price opposed to look at this on the big screen. It doesn't feel cinematic enough with the dialogue. The Look of the movie and look. We met Bernie Williams Bernie for about a minute. There were wished away at. How was no that? This is the love of his life like really yes, pays the thing is giving. You is the fact that he doesn't want to leave before like seeing her and stuff, so he rushes off the final. Say Goodbye, but he got you. That's all you get a run. A couple of lines dialogue. And, then he's now taken very quickly by the way now taken by the same Italian scientists who escaped the pre Italy war fortress. Yeah, the Sally. Sally. In the car is she meets him there like surely. The facility layer I don't know, but it's more like I think because again. The must have done this to be quick is we have to be quick? We have to move the plot along because we have a lot to get through. This is all this is within the first ten minutes right so again. The cost speedy really is dead because they are. Generally in the facility he's talked up. No one explains that there's a super serum. no-one explains why anyone. Everyone's just. I would just wrote a row. People were on a roll. Let's say like the facility is like in a diner is is it's like back cave you kind of open decisions, and it's the the wall swivels round and you go down the stairs into the secret facility. See See is I'm okay with because that's like very. Is I. Go let me just pull. A couple of levers always go down the spiral staircase. It's great, but you said they could win mmediately here. Nothing's explained. Fuck?.

"Sun roof Rosen said on the email for me my other was JFK Bernie Williams became my favorite player when he came to the Yankees I took a liking to him early on in the final the end he was already here's in a couple a couple years and before I really got to know him well okay I've gotten along very very well and I don't have a lot of player friends but he's one of the players I am friendly with I mean we don't we don't hang out together that much without a million charity events together with a million events together if he calls me for something I do it if I need him for something he does it Bernie and I have a wonderful relationship we have for many many years and he's a class individual he's done a ton of charity work is it and what I like about Bernie is Bernie has always he's always played the game with a smoothness almost like a no it's funny he has a second career in music and jazz and that's how you play the game because the bigger the game this movie was the calmer you was and the better we played Bernie is not a whole Famer doesn't have a hall of fame career had some wonderful moments one of adding title he won multiple gold gloves he has incredible big moments if you go through the history of postseason games now a big part of it is because he and Derek Jeter and Manny Ramirez have played in the most postseason games because they have coupled World Series with all the other postseason layers now of of the post season and they played the most games so if Derek Jeter doesn't hold the record Bernie Williams holds the record as of Bernie Williams as a whole directed then then most likely most likely one of the big red Sox slugger's holds the record and Bernie is right there the second home runs and he's first in doubles and he's first in all the eyes on the second run scored and go down the line and he had so many big hits and you know he's only one or two guys to have to walk off postseason home runs it has three the only one of the one is big papi it's a very rare event obviously even have one he's had two big papi had to Bernie brought a class LA clutch and the smoothness of the sport and he had a great career when you patrol Yankee Stadium for sixteen years and play center field which is essential for the Yankees is bigger position as there was a sport and then play it on the level and win as much as they did when Bernie was in the in the major leagues for the time he was in the major leagues he won more games than anybody in the major leagues the lady as he might have been some past the last year or so by Jeter with that number I'm not sure but as the time that they gave it late birdies career Bernie it played in more winning games that anybody who would play in the major leagues all the time the phone had been the mages so think about that think about how important winning is and realize that Monday ended Bernie inflated more winning baseball games anybody that has motivated other time Mickey was in the majors he played the most winning games because when he set out the accuser of our winning that much and he played there also during that time period so I mean you can always cut up a Yankee is based on who comes in what year but it's just obviously being a give you a leg up but that's a great honor when you think about it it's not a whole Famer but he's had a great career a career that he shouldn't want to give back for anything because when you win and you do it New York how do you do with the style and the grace and the clutch and when you retire and what they say is that you're a fan favorite and that you did it with great class great dignity and you are always bigger than the moment that's all they can have a say about you in your career they can't say anything better have better players absolutely were there better Yankees absolutely whether anybody anymore clutch anymore class not a chance he bought a great dignity to those Yankee teams.

"To set a Springfield New Jersey Matt is up next the joins us out of families out Maddie AJGA lament Hey Matt and I good to have you and your family safe bro if the deal did not go through imaginative it's gene stick Michael couldn't convince assigned Brainerd that Bernie was the man that he had he went and all the history that would have gone away and also ninety eight if he signed with Boston thanks a lot buddy Matt that's a very very good example on that's the other way around that's a treat that didn't happen if the world didn't happen Bernie Williams not getting traded for Darren Lewis a lot of rumors in the mid nineties that that was a possibility in like ninety three ninety four thankfully the Yankees did not pull the trigger on it Bernie was very very close to your point of becoming a Boston Red Sox in fact the Yankees had in some way started to pivot in the direction of Albert bell a lot of people wondered what day go make a move to sign the fearsome slugger Bernie came back to them they cut a deal and it was the best thing that ever happened Yankees because Bernie was one of those guys he knew can handle New York you know we could handle center field he was never going to be a problem in that clubhouse went about his business and under that contract because in ninety nine two thousand two thousand one and two thousand and two you got four easily here is out of Bernie all three all four or five that's when he started tell awful but but that Bernie contract which seemed outrageous at the time was worth every penny there are a lot of those with the late nineties Yankees what could have been in not a good way fields for mean for Mariano Rivera was discussed the Yankees let's say including Andy Pettitte in need Tino Martinez Jeff Nelson trade instead of sterling Hitchcock sterling Hitchcock at a decent big league career he was knowing that these are some of you think about you'll see him in one direction where you're just wondering what could have been a positive standpoint there plenty more on the other side plenty plenty more on the other side let's set out to Las Vegas Danny is up next the joins us on offense without Danny yeah my man every show was better a better man Danny appreciate it man and today we got off to a little bit of rocky road I mean our connection was not there we had to do some more bowling on the fly but Hey we're back on the air will ready to rock you sound great when making magic in a way we got so we got for my dad I want to talk about the transport that I definitely want to ask you have you seen the shelves are not doing this right up your alley it's called action it's on show time have you seen it I sure had van and involved bill cracking Berger who we've had on the show Kelly Stewart who I think does a phenomenal job it is to me one of the better talents in the business and in the industry and you had that Vegas Dave right now I mean is living large cheese steak house Saunders for goodness sakes all yes I've seen action with very very good very very well done and if you're intrigued by the element of sports gambling is on show time to about five or six episodes I highly recommend it yeah onto the football every year I want the giants the draft you know offensive linemen here I won in the draft Jack Martin and they drafted down and I mean that's that's so bad but and now the I. one and draft a tonsil and they drafted I think Eli apple that year and now I'm looking for in the draft I'm Dave Simmons the outside linebacker but if they dress up as a one issue I really won't be you know discussing or kill on the Pakistani because listen they have a young quarterback they have a you don't want to back so logic would dictate that you want to surround those to wait you know the wall in front of him that you want to have top notch talents in front of a cell if they end up getting a war of sorts the end up getting a back pain it's not a backpack I just want to make a whole lot of sense however for me Danny watching the giants last year their most glaring weakness was on the defensive side of the ball and for me I am soul polled by the way the giants to play defense the last few years that if they can get somebody who kind of has this look and feel of a modern NFL E. league level linebacker a guy who can do so many different things in may be given your defense all fairly tragically different look bad so might be looking to do and I know some people don't want to go in the direction of I'd say Simmons I would take I say Simmons with the fourth pick in the draft yeah he's my pick I really really want and from last night I the one I want to get in was did seventy six Yankee for me growing up as a kid they were really really bad and in seventy five give it twelve games out in seventy six I mean they won the World Series I knew they were gonna lose against the Reds but died you know that was my my team it was like all went back to the World Series finally you know I mean I totally get it they took you on a ride the seventy six team first time in the playoffs since nineteen sixty four they win the pennant dramatic fashion with the Chris Chambliss home run so I totally get it you want to look at the Aggies in seventy six is one of those teams that has a police near and dear in your heart that was our topic by the way yesterday for those of you keeping score at home seventy six Yankees I'm sure big bad description for a lot of fans because they got to the World Series yes they got humbled by Cincinnati but it was a start making some moves it is two forty one here on this Tuesday morning it's J. J. after dark challenges Jansky right here on the fat eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six we got a lot more draft reaction to get to we'll get to the idiotic I like these guys come on the show I like him a lot but Charles Oakley could be more wrong when it comes to Patrick Ewing and what he meant to the New York knickerbockers will dive into that point what could have been that is a subject of the day better worse in different what could have been I gave you one drew Brees not signing with the Miami Dolphins bill Belichick not coaching the New York Jets just me there are plenty more to.

"From Tampa so that's about five hours on the road today combined verses just staying in Tampa and that's probably the other big factor when you consider which came to covers we'll take your phone calls eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six we've got a fun show already ahead of time to talk to you so you get on the phones now and I promise I'll be talking to you right up until handing over to John and Susan at twelve fifty five eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six Bernie Williams last hour John Flaherty in the first hour also match ferry the Yankees director baseball operations and just a few moments ago conversations mostly music and kind of fun Richie Cannata and liberty to veto from the lords of fifty second street go back and hit rewind radio dot com app and you can you can have that conversation again Bernie Williams will be playing plenty shows the New York area including one at the sheen center down the village on March seventh and will be giving away tickets to that during the course of the week on WFAN so make sure you listen to that as one of the interesting things we talked about with John Flaherty at the start of the show was about watching Gary Sanchez and his new stance and what that's going to be in the idea behind it is to get better at picking up low strikes strikes low in the zone and the V. last year with Gary Sanchez do a little bit better on the numbers blocking balls the strikes regress in throwing out runners your grass then yeah they're trying to get it's hard to put all three things together and make an all star all three of those but what the base is determined as a staff is that getting more low strikes is going to be the most beneficial part for the pitchers especially getting getting those borderline strike calls getting to more favorable counts so stealing more those strikes if it comes at the expense of one of the other parts of the game there seems to be an idea that that will benefit the team more the pictures more the two more in the long run and we'll see how that affects Kerry cinches and listen Gary Sanchez really makes his money though by by hitting thirty home runs as a catcher sold as much emphasis is there is behind the plate and you want to see him succeed there what the what the issues were needed really needed to do to stay healthy stay on the field and not lose that that big bad because that's a new that's really the the biggest plus on Gary Sanchez's side is being able to hit it for power as long as he stays on the field number times too up hit thirty plus four months.

"Only plays all kinds of games in all kinds of misdirection games and he was just perfectly blunt about this I want Gerrit Cole we're going after him he's our number one priority he almost seemed like to buy into the whole narrative that like they had to have them they were desperate to have a minimum they got him now we'll see if they can they can commandeer their division and and put another what were they twenty seven twenty eight titles on like that seven rings yeah it is the goes to George Steinbrenner haunted him daily nightly made to make this deal that's exactly what happens is the supernatural also a lost a chance go to the World Series because they don't have a starting pitcher you know if they were done Madison Bumgarner last year Rubin significantly cheaper but they didn't they didn't now you have to pay a guy three to twenty four million dollars and he's a hell the pitcher and I guess they drafted him originally and then he went to UCLA he spurned them for the Bruins sol maybe this is been you know this is something that a guy they want to get the full for awhile there's no question there get in the best right now but man at the back into this contract will see how it shakes out how do you celebrate getting three hundred twenty four million dollars do you just go Buck wild do you just do your do you go all out or do you just kind of go for it's a lot of money isn't it you got to blow it out a million dollars gonna blow it out how do you get a whole you gotta have a party at your house alright see what is your family guys if kit little kids CO all in all all I know is his Crawford's brother and all that's all I know and the angels badly while they're on the Dodgers Babylon was seen as want to grow up like I don't know half an hour with her to the ball park and they wanted him but I I mean look from the angel's perspective you spend three and twenty four million dollars on your squad and then you look round go damn we still gonna address this and this and maybe even another pitcher and I mean they they the Yankees don't have that problem they had a pitching problem of about a top and front end pitching problem and the reason they're able to go out and do this one to the Yankees but to look who they have they have judge they have tore is they have Frasier they have sand says and they have stand will stands a big money guy I'm talking about all the young all here at our end do Haar who played third form this year place and they are things she or shell it think your cell I mean they they have a but they have so many dudes in there making hardly anything I mean you think of the Yankees and yeah they blow it out they're going to spend money in there for five years we're gonna sell much money they're going to spank they're gonna have a lot to do with their like Hey Hey what about my money better win now because the back and we're going to prioritize government they keep all of them but the Yankees maybe that's the reason they're able to do okay because our farm system in our minds a little bit of the nineties Yankees when they brought in all these free agents Roger but it was Bernie Williams Derek Jeter Hey Posada any head at it the Miramar others yeah they said they they brought in this group and supplemented a man that's what the Yankees are doing now they got this group of young guys that they're able to supplement instead of like the eighties Yankees were just like just go get guys go get guys will get guys go get guys who get guys and didn't really work out form except for the early early eighties but I mean the the angels to me I would have loved to sit asylum but out they need like two pitchers I hope they get Bumgarner because I think I've said this all last year than Bumgarner is worth more than his stats because what he brings to the club house in his demeanor and and how young pitchers can feed off of another pitches can feed off of mom opening because they're really am and we'll get into whether he goes the Dodgers who they would so you have to get somebody will run as Asian Schmidt I go there's a decent I'm sorry yeah and she's since it was fine but when he went there is a goal but he gave bummer to go there that's a whole different deal if he were to go there it's so we'll see but the angels the I I I heard they're gonna be on window now has a right to the chase I gave him your number one pick I you know I was slow to contract to stay but out of luxury tax that they're not going to exceed one get one of these one guy or do you get like three good guys like to get two pitchers and another guy or do you just say you know what let's just get run down and then we'll get some bit players to fill in like I mean that sounds awesome right the team you trying to sell tickets all that so what I worry about because when they got pools and Hamilton and those guys are trying to sell tickets in and get TV ratings for the new TV contract yeah but I mean it is enticing to think now batting third Mike trout now betting fourth Anthony rent that's kind of fun to think about and then it's now betting fifth what a I think they may trade Cole Calhoun yeah they gather there's talk about trade yeah but I mean I feel certain the angels kind of challenge themselves with the giants traded to land the big fish and if they don't win the big fish I bet you they'll be some people going wait a second you just give away your first round pick to stay beneath a luxury tax you're not gonna exceed now to get a couple medium fish is a size fish is come with the crappies crap no one no crappy that there was a longer literally yeah exactly well into regularly giants insider joins us at the bottom of the hour obviously we will get to into the flurry of moves made by far Han yesterday and more moves to common hi Madison Bumgarner to the dot I came in I can say about.

"Bernie Williams your manager they did you be happy if you know or a guy who killed the Mets in the World Series put him in you know Louis solo you know what you want the bottom line is if you won game Jordan said Kevin many although it's of canon all my wanted that Yankees one quick question what do you think about that justify thing with they'll talk about the drug positive I don't know what I don't know enough about it I I I I I do know what the claim is but I yeah I don't see any more information on to be on me there okay I click my cluster of Yankee use and he get one that you're kind of put them over the edge when they get to the World Series of my long project yeah my mom mom my thing is that if you have space for hitters Sanchez judging Klein ASEAN Stanton basically swing from the hills or strike out that kind of their ammo that's not fundamental baseball and aren't they going to be exposed when they get to the World Series when they face better pitching you know but spring a pris spring is a perfect example spring a struck out a ton of times in the in the in the series against the Yankees he didn't hit at all and then he had to you I'm anonymous home runs in the series so to Korea Korean and hit the series but he had to game changing home runs one was a walk off yes was it to walk off home runs in six games they had to walk along with me out of the van that's a lot right but the Yankees take to me had more of these or nothing hitters like I mean it from a guy like well listen they struck out fifty four Yankee struck out sixty four times and the Astros struck out fifty four tons of biology but they don't take this the Yankees get exposed because every other than the one hundred I think every team there I think every team gets exposed to good pitching in the post season I think that's the way it is they're usually not high batting averages in the post season the Astros didn't hit against the Yankees the Yankees had a higher batting I was on the Astros her and the Yankees struck out ten more times the Yankees at forty three strikeouts in four players gaudy Sanchez and cannot see own and judge struck out forty three of the sixty four so for guys struck out almost you know two thirds of the time Bob in Monticello it's about Hey Mike yeah you know I think the thing that's frustrating after my group you a decade of failure is that it's the same course my post mortem every time no waste Collado aging right handed sluggers no speed no contact hitters like we set this for a decade I don't think that I I don't I don't think there is no content Yankees lead Major League Baseball hitting with runners in scoring position issues that they have not contacted as you've heard the other day that got the left fielder for the Astros what grandly one guy it but the the astral struck a fifty four times in the series I mean and spring who killed them with two big home run struck at like twelve times your question or two moments that cold moon call that I think really did cost us and you think it's fair we the people have talked about it the one and it's not analytically was what was happening when he did take green now if your call and I remember I don't watch it the last pitch he threw on the last batter was I'm head of all cheese like discussed with all the way through those and then all of a sudden he pops out of the dugout and it was a mistake so you know you can go to your your argument is you don't want green you wanted green to be relied on in that in that scenario okay more than anything else that's what you wanted you wanted green to be relied on you didn't want to be there when the series green Z. a race of the series was nine point six four so you tell me when he was gonna start giving it up not that night but the next night the next night green got killed at times in that series given through homa to Springer he in that series in game six he gave up three runs that game that series green had a tough time you know he did use use too much probably but you want him kept in the game but after that moment and those two innings green got out of I told you the time he struck out a couple guys but he also gave up three balls that were hit right at people that were bullets and he wound up in the series have been a nine point six four ERA the series and he gave up some some very big hits in a series so I mean listen you can make the point for every guy if you're going to go to your pen as much as they did it's going to come back to get you an that game he starts the game and gives up the throne Agori L. in that series green give up to big three run homers to get the throne ominous Springer and give the throw home to go real you have to through a home is in a short series that's the guy you had to have in that moment get to big throughout home as the rest of the series Sean jar is he was of Sean good afternoon let's so yeah I mean I don't I felt sick to my stomach when I pull the alert on my phone that you're already had gone to the Philly because there were two managers out there that I would take that to a different place for finally and it was matted and you're already and and that's what also compel and I think it's because you might affect the I think it's because there was an impulse and he doesn't want anybody to know more about baseball well I think all of us to be in control is the best way to say it I think it's more there's not I think that's the thing he wants to be in charge and I think it's hard to be in charge with a guy like your audio man who's got a lot more baseball success.

"Thanks for coming up. How did you like that clip on Willie Mays was good looking for something the play? Well, I heard about how the Maggio's doctor of like we gotta play this but the enthusiasm right? And he was added the patio with us whose birthday now come out, and that is Willie Mays. It's great. We're so lucky to have that opportunity to talk with him. And I love seeing them at the ballpark. He's just the an icon treasure. He is San Francisco baseball and his laugh. I mean, just say it just makes me smile. Just. Good. But he's he is just as a person. He was great. That is great. If the eighty eight tomorrow. As a ball player. Great. But as I tell people when you're a star of ballplayer it translates later on into life. Most cases, I mean there are exceptions to the rule, but we did it with Bernie Williams last last week at the patio Bernie Williams of the great all-star World Series champion and in his later life now award winning musician tremendous interest in the disease theater, critic pulmonary of price Bros. I think it is bother has. And he just becomes kind of person Willie was that kind of person vita blue, these people as champions, Carney, Lansford and Dave Henderson. You just think guys you think of will Clark Matt Williams as they move through life. They're still champions. And that's the one thing about Willie that I love he is still the showman. And he's still an amazing man amazing. Absolutely. I can't believe I know. Really? Now, you told me this at ten years old, you'll be friends with Willie Mays and have those kind of conversations with them and go back and forth and the give and take I say, you're crazy, right and lucky. Yeah. Well, we have a greatest game coming up. So that was probably makes game. All right. But we have someone now this is going to be a lot of fun. The book is now taking the field. Baseball's all time Dream Team's for all thirty franchises. Now. It's six hundred pages. It's one of those books you could pick it up at any page and start reading and you'll love it. The author is Tom stone. And he's written on a variety of baseball topics at seam heads that come an early age. Tom started to develop an keen interest in baseball's rich history and stats, including how to compare players across time this book taking the field does that because it compares the player for your franchise from nineteen zero five to someone who played yesterday and Tom has come up with amazing stats amazing dream teams in all sorts of areas. I love the book, it's really terrific. And we welcome to the show tomstone. How are you? Doing great. Thanks. Glad to be with you. Yeah. The book is is so much fun. Tell the listeners I gave us sort of a synopsis of it. But it took years for you to put it together. But the research is amazing and the fun of reading is so trite in front of you. Yeah. Well, thank you for that. Yeah. Did take off and on writing over a twenty year period. So a lot of time went into it. Like, you say it's six hundred pages. A lot of people are treating it sort of like a coffee table book. You can pick it up and put it down start with your favorite team. Of course, read that chapter probably right away. But then dive into some other teams, you know over time it, let's talk about the giants. It's chapter two page forty nine. And let's talk about some of the things you came up with the giants and see if we agree with you. Yeah. Absolutely. And by the way, the reason they're chapter two. I started with the sixteen long standing teams, and I did them in order of all time wins loss record. So of course. That means Yankees are number one. But giants are right there at number two. Very good. Okay. Tell us about the the dream team of the giants. Yeah. So definitely the loaded at certain positions starting you know, right around the infield first-base lots of great players to consider their hard to only twos. Two. That's one of the things. I did for this book was not just choose the starting lineup and a couple of pitchers, but I chose a full thirty man roster. So that allowed me a starter in a backup. And and even some additional extra guys on the bench and a full twelve man, you know, pitching staff I did way more starters than relievers for for each team. Very the exact numbers. But the giants start off strong at first base Willie McCovey Bill Terry to great hall of famers there. I was able to include Roger Connor who was an old timer from the eighteen hundreds and even will Clark who I heard you mentioning before I got on the call. He's he's on this thirty man roster as well. So all right phone first base of the. The first baseman. You got Willie Mack. The great Bill Terry has numbers retired Roger Connor and will all on the on the thirty man all on the team, others, others might prefer not to carry so many first baseman, and that's totally understandable. But it was hard for me to not have Roger Connor and will Clark included. So I got them included there, which means a bit less depth that some of the other positions. What happened is to pay to well Cepeda split his time between first base and outfield. So I get him in there as as a backup outfielder and actually in the starting lineups. I think I slaughtered. That's one of the things I do even for the National League teams. I know purists might not like it. But if you have such rich such rich bench on a thirty man all time dream team. It would be hard to stomach even having a relatively good hitting pitcher like like, Madison, Bumgarner, you know, why have them bat when you can have someone like Cepeda. Okay. I'm with you. I'm with you or Orlando one of our favorites. Second base now thinks second baseman even in the the ear. You know, San Francisco ear and not. Tremendous second baseman. Jeff Kent may be jumps out at me more than anybody. How do you? How do you have second base lined up? Second base had the fewest players that really deserve to to be even considered. I did go with Jeff Kent starter. Even though he only played some of his time for the giants. But when he did they were such good seasons. And then Larry Doyle who was an early player in the dead ball era played played for the franchise for thirteen years. So he makes it as the backup Frankie, I of course, played for the giants and split his time between second and third. So I get him on the roster over at third base. The only other guy that I even looked at. It was Robby Thompson who we all remember from the eighties and early nineties but didn't do quite enough to make the roster. All right. Frankie fish traded for the great Rogers Hornsby about that and became a Saint Louis cardinal the owner of the cardinals didn't like horns me anymore. They got into a big fight. He was a big champion won the World Series. And next thing you knew he was a giant and Frisch was a cardinal went onto big fame. They're all right about third base. Do we get Frankie fish? In their third. Yeah. I chose him as the starter at third though, you could certainly make a case for Matt Williams. But either way you've got to great players there at third base. I looked at a lot of others. Jim Ray Hart or Devlin. Hank? Thompson Darrell Evans, even but really those two Frisch and Williams were the only two that I thought needed to make it. I could go with that. All right. Let's go to the shortstop. We have a good one right now. Brandon Crawford where does he fit in. Yeah. I definitely looked at Crawford. His numbers one of the things. I did in this book is you know, I started with wins above replacement one of those sabermetrics stats that really help you to compare players over eras. And then I looked at traditional stats as well. How how they done in the postseason? And then how many times are they in all star anytime, you know, how they do in MVP balloting and things like that. So that just gives you a little background on sort of my selection process for Crawford. He's been he's been with the team. No, this is his ninth season hasn't done quite enough yet to to make it on there. Because you've got a couple of hall of famers and George Davis and Travis Jackson old-timers. But but really great players that that needed to make the roster. But you have Crawford stays there long enough. He could certainly be in the conversation. All right now catcher, I I would imagine Posey's got to be in there. Yeah. Posey at this point has done enough to be the starter, the tough decision, and this is where you could maybe jettison will Clark Roger Connor if he wanted to go with a third catcher, the tough decision is backup catcher opposes the starter. Then you've got old timers book Ewing, and Roger Bresnahan it's tough to choose between them. I went with Ewing. But you could certainly make a case for Bresnahan as well. Well, you need Bresnahan because he invented the shin guards. That's right. That famous baseball trivia questions. Right. Hey, you need him. You can't have catcher that shin guards. All right. The field should be relatively easy. And I'm just thinking off the top of my head. I mean, obviously paid it could be out there bonds is obviously going to be out there in Willie Mays who else do you have out there. Yeah. So Cepeda makes it only as a backup unless you want to discount some of those numbers, but I would bonds and left field as a starter William as clearly the starter in center field and then another great in right field. Mel OTT played twenty two years. Great slugger for the for the giants as well. So great starting outfield. I mean maze and bonds that almost I would say rivals Ruth DiMaggio mantle. So I mean, great great outfield for having it does. I really do. I think it does. When you when you look at it. All right starting pitching. And Tom stone is with us. I enjoy chatting with you. That's what the book is all about now. Now taking the field. Baseball's all time Dream Team's froth thirty franchises. Now. The giants have had tremendous pitching over over their history. You go back to Christy Mathewson. You could go to Carl Hubbell you could go to marriage shell you could go to the great pitchers Bumgarner. What do you do for starting staff? Yeah. The. Ryan textually not only do they have great hitters. We just went through. But they have actually stronger starting pitching historically than the Yankees or various other long-standing teams the three you mentioned where at the top Matthew spin. And then it was really close between Hubble and Maher show, you could just roll the dice and have one be two and three then there's a little bit of a drop off. But still some great hall of famers, Joe mcginnity and old timer Gaylord Perry, and then and then other greats like Johnny Antonelli included Madison Bumgarner as as the seventh on the list, and then I actually went with three really old timers, I generally for this book didn't include too many pitchers from the eighteen hundreds because they pitched, you know, five hundred a crazy number of starts. But in the case Hines, they actually had three that that stayed with the franchise for a really long time. And I thought were deserving all of them hall of famers, Amos Rusi Mickey Welsh and Tim Keefe. So those guys round out the the starting pitchers if you prefer to discount those guys and go with some some more modern guys, then of course, you go with the likes of Tim Lind succumb. Matt Cain Jason Schmitt people that were more familiar with sale Magli. So there's lots of other great pitchers as you mentioned giants really had a couple of dozen to really look at what fun. What fun you do this? I can't believe you did this for every franchise is incredible. Yeah. It really was a lot of fun. It was something that you know, I was born in nineteen Seventy-three growing up in the eighties. Some kids on this on on my block. We would play a catechal disc league baseball or strat micro league on my old Atari. And we would think about these things like who would be the all time best overall who would be the all-time best franchise. So it's something I've been thinking about since I was since I was a youngster in the eighties and finally got started on the book about twenty years ago..

giants Willie Mays Baseball Clark Matt Williams Roger Connor Brandon Crawford Tom stone San Francisco Yankees Madison Bumgarner Bernie Williams Frankie fish Cepeda Willie Roger Bresnahan Willie Mack Jeff Kent Willie McCovey

"Hundred ninety eight twenty four seconds ago. And Steph curry had yet to have a signature moment until that right there celebrated with his little strut copes. You're paying tribute to my reference that that katie's on one with the I guess a little Drake. My friend helped me out here Drake in DJ Callan. Another one is what he would say. Okay. Well, he's on forty points a game last five games in the playoffs. Kevin durant? That moment you played there with Steph Curry's only moment, but that's what the warriors are so good at man. I tell you what reading about this game. Remember eating all the chronicles and the ethics and all these it's almost like it's almost like being back in school. It's like reading reading the text. It's so boring because it's all about the officiating in the spending of the officiating and the politicking of the officiating sowing the seeds for game. Twos. Officials and it's like wait a minute wasn't there. I mean, we talk about basketball. Here's the thing. In order for the rockets to succeed with the style of ball that they play they have to have the referees on board. And if they're not on board. This is the end result. It translates to an L. I mean, the rockets have to get those calls in order for them to go out there and be able to do the things that they do regularly. And that was their big gripe. It's not like it's like, hey, you guys called this one way all year. Now, it's the playoffs in your calling things totally differently. So you're going to hear that make more noise, I expect I think things are going to level out a little bit. The bottom line is though to the, you know, the rockets missed the crab almost curse. Just then I must that s slowed a crapload of three pointers yesterday for sixteen for harden. That's so you're saying when they say strength in numbers. They mean their starting five plus the three refs. No question. You don't have those three on the on board making the calls that you're dependent on the they're going to be frustrated. Let me ask you for small. Good morning. Enjoyed lead spots. Second of all in by the heard you this weekend. Oh, you caught a literature this weekend? Good to hear your man. And yesterday, we had a good Bernie Williams sat down with us. Got you posted a burning Bernie and the photo in autumn is that was stunned caught off guard mardi goes Bernie Williams gonna come on. He plays classical guitar, which is probably the most challenging style of music any guitar player. Complained that stuff is that's no joke. And this essentially confirms what I told you before the break that my friends that fly the seven three seven max here in the United States. They have no issue flying this airplane. He says in a text. I don't have any issue and most of the guys that I fly with and other airline pilots. I've spoken to do.
