Consoles: The Dreamcast's Life After Death
"It's Timber Ninth. Nineteen Ninety nine nine nine ninety nine and somewhere in Japan. A spy has made her way. Deep into a mainframe. Computer she hacks. In and disables. A security guard investigates she knocks him out with a well-placed kick with the computer system. It comes to life. Everything goes a strange swirling pattern. Pops up on the monitors. It's obvious that the system is thinking the spy folks. The thicky computers out to stop her. It tries to lock her inside the building. The spy smashes through a window but not before she grabs a case and lungs off with inside that case a prototype for a new kind of machine that could change. Everything describing was a television commercial called apocalypse. It was promoting the newest video game console from Game Company. Sega and no ordinary console either. This revolutionary device was called the dreamcast in that apocalypse ad. What's inside the case? This is stealing. Is that very consul? Well then the dreamcast Box it sort of spins off of the back of the thief and lands in the street and the the the lid of this magic case kept the box plug. In the whole time POPs open camera's zooms into the dreamcast and into the window and goes down to the bottom where it appears that all the characters from all the Games are all gathered and there we have sonic down there and he he triumphantly says we got in the whole place rupp's and everybody's screaming. That's Brian and Pacino. The creative director of the apocalypse ad campaign and the Sauna keys referring to is sonic the Hedgehog Sega's famous game character in the nineties. Seca was one of the most recognized video game companies in the world. The by the end of that decade the competition was proving to be fierce so up at the House on dreamcast. It would be the company's Savior. The apocalypse ad was described as the most epic video game commercial ever created. But how else to show off the most advanced game console ever made so smart. You could almost say it really was thinking. Alas the dreamcast did not change world. It barely made a dent. It's considered by some to be the greatest console that never stood a chance. It was the last console Sega would build and had very nearly broke the company in our penultimate episode of the season a season all about hardware. That changed the course of development. We look at the short lived history of the Sega dreamcast yet. Despite the short shelf-life dreamcast is still considered by many to be one of if not the finest gaming consoles of all time and twenty years after its death it manages to live on in a very real way. I'm throwing at Barak and this command line. Heroes and the littoral podcast from hat like thinking computer in the apocalypse ad that whisper thanking became the company's new tagline for their new console. So the thought of having our our veal always whisper. It's thinking we thought that would be a really neat way to to sort of evolve that icon sake scream. Here was a console that got smarter as he played. At least. That was the marketing Pinch Console. That brought something new something big something live. Aleutian aries to the home video game market. A system built to serve the hardcore Gamer and inside the company. The thinking was that this console would make Sega. The biggest name in video gaming fish was going to change gaming. This was going to change the world so what happened to figure that out. We need to go back all the way back to level one throughout the early nineties. Sega had a reputation for making gains. There were super cool and more mature than what the competition offered particularly intendo. And it's princess saving plumbers. They built this reputation with a very successful console Sega Genesis. Sega decided they were going to be really cutting edge. And these kids who had had the Nintendo's that will now they're teenagers and they want they want real sports games with real teams. They want bloody fighting games like mortal Kombat which came later on and they wanted a more mature it. Your face sort of system. Alex Handy is the founder and director of the Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment in Oakland. California he also works for Red Hat if you go back and look at ads from video game magazines in this period. They're kind of shocking their ads. Where there's like a bloody severed arm with gristle coming off of it and it says this is your best weapon against the Bad Guy Light. So Sega does really really well with this extreme in your face. Sort of successive genesis will sonic the hedgehog sort of impertinence as opposed to Mario's oshkosh b`Gosh overalls kind of happy theme. More than thirty million. People bought the SEGA GENESIS. A sixteen bit console that played games from cartridges. Gamers around the world loved it but over time sake struggles to grow as user base after Genesis. They introduced a thirty two bit. Sega Saturn more powerful than genesis. It display both two D and Basic Three D. Graphics but the Saturn Platform never really took off sales struggled. They managed to sell nine point. Two million consoles only a third of what the genesis sold another sticking point developers found a challenging to program games for Saturn's proprietary in house designed hardware. This was an issue. Sega made note of for the future. Add to that the launch of nintendo sixty four and then Sony's first entry into the market with the playstation and gaming was suddenly getting crowded and very competitive in one thousand nine hundred eight. Sega posted a loss of two hundred seventy million dollars. North American headquarters video game. Boss Bernie store announces that quote. The Saturn is not our future. He kills the console with that. Sega turns its focus to building the next generation of council level to building the dream. The Sega Saturn had hurt the company's brand and bottom line if sega was going to reclaim its market share and reputation. This next console needed to be powerful easy to co for and unlike anything else

"Stimulus plan that's that's just two trillion of what part for would be and we've heard numbers as high as you know a couple trillion I mean they did two and a half trillion this time so why not do another two trillion if we get to the end of April so now you've got well no no no this two trillion another four does not help yeah I know I know but before that they were already talking about plan for costing two trillion so add two trillion to his two children and you've got four trillion added on to the two and a half trillion that we've already spent and folks we're not even into the summer yet why not just print I'm not bills out there but no forget it we'll do electronic transfers let's make everybody a trillion tomorrow yeah just make everybody trainer just make direct payments everybody makes everybody want the money make it all if we're gonna do this then then just just go in and and and do it and then sit back and watch what's happened what happens it's got a bill in Seattle bill welcome here and run a radio welcome to the show high this is a well for one thing it's an honor to talk to you guys thank you for that okay here's a thought about for quite some time in a bit every individual every business in every industry every state even nations have debts okay at the level of she twenty because this is a global problem we need a moratorium on all debt payments you mean permanently it is being collected including rents mortgages business leases every credit card payments HM they're all bets say performance and what that does no one could ever figure it out with that this every individual and every entity is exact situations they were in when this began okay you're talking about just putting a pause button and deferring payments not not just wiping that off the books yeah the way we don't want to get that in the four months in half the world is if you're not a you're not and you're not answering his questions question is are you saying get rid of the debt or just suspend the debt deferred the payment deferred the payment it's not cancel it suspended okay four months okay yeah it would fix everything you see how it fits the no one could ever figure out well I don't know how well I don't know how you do that I don't know how you do that legally unless you're to the point of martial law while getting the right amount would be awfully well you're right Europe you will be all know everything is no everything is everything is legal it's a it's a contract between you and your lender if it's a mortgage or if it's a yeah everything hello right but everything everything everything everything everything has to be done legally well they were beyond legally writers nothing beyond legal what but because unless you're a martial law if you again you would have to do would have well martial law knows we at a point now is deciding everything does work there's already lawsuits being filed I saw yesterday in Florida yeah a federal judge comes out and says the quarantine if a federal judge consensus of quarantine is not legit then the quarantines not legit and we said what we just said this on the Sunday night Monday morning show actually wait for the lawsuits to happen and I didn't I I knew there were a couple of lawsuits happening at a smaller level and now of course by the end of the week because like I said it a week and a half ago people are gonna start getting restless you take a week off that's one thing that's a vacation next thing you know people want to go back to work they want they want to move about freely and and then now you're talking about you know the idea of work from the caller is what that the government would come in and notify all agreements between the price in the private sector between individuals and lending instock market would crash it what it what did you talk about shooting the economy in the head yeah it would do a ton of damage because it would be unprecedented and what a change you think they're gonna put a sunset on that kind of power absolutely not that kind of it would have remnants and tentacles that would go on for ages and ages and ages which would give the government power essentially over the banks and I know they do have regulatory power over the banks at this point but it wouldn't be temporary if they can get their hands in between the lenders and the borrowers and start manipulating contracts we're not talking about a judge looking at a contract and saying whether it's valid or not right we're not talking about bankruptcy right we're talking about the government coming in and saying that contract is no longer valid you must do this well we know what the Democrats think about debt do we not right at all of it should be able to get back on so I mean we're really that that right right right there walks right out on the same network I will say Democrats all say liberals yes as all Democrats would not especially business over net owner Democrats would not agree with that what what you're doing is you're handing off the baton to burning I mean that's that you're walking up to Bernie store right there and then he takes it or other liberals take it from there and then of course they're not gonna stop they win in November of that at some point they will be back in control you think they would reverse that kind.

"He's early in under an act or eight six six ninety one I'm gonna make this clear as Wall Street journal points out the two trillion dollars is just the infrastructure part of part four of the "Poll numbers over thirty percent in over twenty percent you get over fifty percent and the first poll that indicates you have to dress you cited look party is more popular than what some people call it call of moderate but I called the corporate side of the party they either are billionaires of that's where they get their money well most of the question is who can be trump you can be turned it was really an old trunk has on Bernie years to say socialist socialist socialist honest an old dirty has to do to to reply to that is I'm trying to get everybody healthcare and you are trying to take people's health care where I'm gonna suggest something to you it's not the star partisan hit it just took a statement I don't think Bernie can win I think the Republicans will transom with the label socialist and if I'd been Bernie ward and by the way a rather five been Bernie Sanders and I listen today the pap Thurston who was very clear if I were Bernie I'd stop calling myself a democratic socialist and I call myself a Roosevelt Democrat just take a look at I totally agree with you hello a long talk today and she read the economic bill of rights put forward by Franklin Roosevelt in January of nineteen forty four and that would make sense but I think I think Sanders is his own worst enemy to be honest with you well you can still claim actually are and I I heard also that economic tools right since Bernie store for then call himself what he is Roosevelt Democrat and by the way no political party has ever nominated a person for president who is not a member of that political party if I were very Sanders I would go down and register as a Democrat all this is this is there I said we should go down and register as a Democrat he's a I embrace the Democratic Party instead last night he made the Democratic Party sound like the enemy and that to me is very disturbing I'll be honest with you add a bundle Elizabeth Warren I thought was the most effective I think she was crazy alternate anyway we'll see what happens but thanks for the poll results let's go to Theresa calling from Walmart creek three so welcome to KGO hi John how are you great thank you so I I listen to the debate today and I mean it's it's a debate I always feel like the jester trying to kind of you know tell the world how great they are what their plans are but I didn't dejected Porter from the get go and I still think that he has the best chance well it'll be interesting to see I mean my wife is a big fan of Merope all right I think he's very able he's thirty eight years old he doesn't have the depth of experience and that's the problem and I think there's a simple reality which I hate to say on the air the fact that he's a married man a gay married man turns off a lot of potential voters it's a shame it's so a couple of points that I would say that that is that the youngest president that we ever had was Franklin not Franklin Roosevelt was teddy Roosevelt forty two years old when he succeeded on the assassination of William McKinley in September nineteen oh one right but if you look back at his political history he doesn't have the combined experience of mayor Pete does I mean he was governor of New York for me what two years he was a police commissioner of that the police in your system secretaries navy during World War one during World War one I'm a leader right and how long was that how long was that from nineteen from who he was Assistant Secretary of the navy from eighteen ninety seven until he left to go to the Spanish American war about a year and a half right so his combined experience is maybe six years and and what's the difference between thirty nine and forty two no I I know I'm not arguing against Pete yeah I could vote for him yeah but I just don't see him winning and I frankly want the Democrats to nominate somebody you can really win I I I I doubt I mean a year ago nobody even knew his name and I think the same kind of I think a lot of people probably would not it didn't think that Barack Obama would win and he surprised people Blanco bomber Barack Obama is a different case he had seen on the convention here yeah for two years a United States senator and he was extremely bright guy I'm not saying Peters and bright all I can tell you maybe you're right maybe you're right but I just don't see it I and I I think that the difficulty with the other candidates if you have you have the at and I love Elizabeth Warren I think she's this she's funky I don't know too much about clover chart I think Bernie Sanders is judged he's too far to the left that he's he's not going to attract the Republican voters he's just I just think they just don't want that and and I I talked to a fair amount of people who are trump supporters and they are just so deeply entrenched in they just don't want to socialism so each year you so you're left with I did and there's a lot of these guys they don't like they didn't like a bomb and if they don't like a bomb not their chances are they're not going to be four by eight in and that's I think that's the trouble with it you know in the end what this is going to boil down to in my judgment is a referendum on Donald Trump he put in for him or they're gonna vote against them yeah and and the people who love them they love him regardless of his character as you hear on this program our absolutely and it's it's it's surprising it's really surprising and but if the if you if you had that the port yeah you got to find a compelling way to convince people to not vote for him and that's going to be seeing the challenge will be once we have the nominees and then I want you to call back and let's see where we stand says now Michael emails of current California polls holds a true the Bernie Sanders could take all of the four hundred and sixteen California delegate so long as no other democratic candidate takes fifteen percent or more of the California primary but no no Michael because it's by congressional district and there will clearly be a division on that at least I think so but if it were a winner take all primary that would be a different situation but it doesn't seem to me the best possible let's go to Dave calling from Chico hi Dave welcome to KGO Hey I I have to say I do this every time I call and love your producer low level thank you also in good I love her I have an M. night Shyamalan moment for you it can't get what to find that I understand that two times in our Republic we've had this happen where a democratic president democratic president Republican vice or vice versa if I had my incorrect no you're correct Thomas Jefferson took Aaron Burr aw and and that was a mismatch if ever there was and then we had Andrew Johnson who ran with Abraham Lincoln and I guess you could even say Henry Wallace who was a progressive Republican who ran with Franklin Roosevelt in nineteen forty okay I yeah I would have to think about this and Washington Adams and you know I mean there are a lot of ways of looking at actually Adams Jefferson is what I meant to say Adams was a federalist Jefferson a Democratic Republic it's not unheard of hair and it's politically correct according to our politics now you're pretty sure got me to start thinking well who would you want just who would you want okay and the word I'm going to give you is Romney because he showed himself to not fall in line anything's disturb he's really disturbed about what's going on he's a man of deep faith with his his religious convictions about the way he wants to live his life in the way he wants to help govern so he he's are perfect you know example of Ron said he will not run the Republicans won't nominate him and no Democrat would take him as a running mate it's going to happen run Romney by the way is opposed to a woman's right to choose and I would remind you the reason that Joe Lieberman did not end up on the McCain ticket in two thousand and eight is because Republicans won't would not nominate a pro choice the person on the Republican ticket yeah if he can overcome those particular items in a in a political sense I also also are set by his running mate see that's the whole thing that's what makes this thing so interesting yeah I have a guy like this obviously there will be only one kind of voter and then you have a I'm telling you there's no Democrat who will take Romney is there running mate you're right you really think your worst Romney is anti choice there's not going to be a vice presidential nominee nominated by the Democrats close to a woman's right to choose it would be it would be an interesting situation to have that happen again in our in our current please remember that the link can call the not the Republican Party but the union party in eighteen sixty four yeah and the it was a civil war and having a southern Democrat made sense in going to happen but Dave your flight of fancy much appreciated at night four one five eight zero eight zero eight ten John last month right here on KGO KGO eight ten.

election it's a message that I think is gonna getting killed yeah I mean I think he's the worst candidate in the general election for exactly that reason think Bernie stores I I don't think there's a question about it I think it's very clear to me that was the swing voters that I care about the trouble bottled waters midwestern states Bernie Sanders is not the candidate we needed to be town terminal however that is a gym Masina who knows a thing or two about winning elections he won two for president Obama of provide valuable insight in situations like this as David Axelrod as I think he's one of the best just like I think call rolled I spoke to a conservative causes he's one of the best to give out one of the best cruise style will found his way into studio because he wants to be on box nation he wants to see how it looks on an app I'm right here and you're like all of these people are smart phone also this guy right here you go you know I quickly adjusted I was in that the stray dog wandered in here let's hear from him that's what this is outside those self esteem issues sales I first I was into politics now I think I got a lift you up a lot of having having been on stage with you in Florida last week no wonder I have low self esteem measures I mean you're the the they can practically laid down palm fronds for you in the aisles as you walked up it was intense I I don't think you're providing your you're providing accurate information from a scene we both experienced was like tell you like Tom Jones at a concert it was I mean come on with all my buttons done now so true to tell this before you respond to Masina so I don't do I don't dress casually well I know I have to say this whole time I can dress down I can dress up but in between I'm always lost still on the air I yes break what the dress code is any surprise it's Florida you know we are you know dress pants open a collar jacket so what happened Chris you had to find a tie and put it out I walk in he's wearing a tie because yeah my wife made me well that doesn't do me any good I'm into these casual outfit it was it was it was unfair but you pulled it off quite nicely I wear it I wore tight because actually I was born in a suit and that's just it's been easier for me to stay with this so it was not hard for me yeah into in terms of children's hospital is great because obviously we had a chance to do that you raise automotive out of money out of a job and we did five panels and one night he wore the heck out of us right yeah with no no we had to we had to sing for our summer kind of question that about it so Chris we don't think about Jim Messina said is that the sense among Democrats all my goodness he Bernie could win I think well sure you could wear right Joe Biden is a front runner but he's a weak front runner there'd serious questions about him there to see you know he is in at he is not on is a game and his a game warden his age when he wait that's thirty years ago so their questions about by name Bernie is going to so I think the most likely scenario that you're going to see now is a is something of a replay of twenty sixteen in which Bernie chases the mainstream nominee through the process I think by needs a stronger front runner than well that's interesting how can we lose a busy in studio it's sort of like Chris Wallace realizes was going so well he felt jealous about this synergy that we both that I know if you're watching the video right now you see it Christy is just talking to himself did he not know he's not alone he does not know hello I don't know do you have his number yeah I'm big white white is bright not following up now I'm gonna look bad yeah he's just talking and talking and talking to himself right now you have an idea is it K. one read lips so I could maybe follow up when he takes a breath and then maybe see maybe at least give him the impression I listened you might be able to does look like he's taking a breath yet so you had he's still talking still talking you imagine if I was actually on the air right now I would be so bored I'd be barring some paper planes from rand Paul exports of chewing tobacco from Ben Sasse were but the spinner right on so if you want you got to get the vaccination out not only to see me America great from the start Saturday night at the space in Westbury Westbury New York starting at eight o'clock seven thirty Pat a rock three comedian goes on but but you can also get a brand new series on fox station I got five more addition them up to twenty six I would have Fort Sumter with Lindsey Graham was out there street where the whole civil war started George Russian headquarters we spend more time they time else today debuts Sagamore hill looking teddy Roosevelt possibly off most famous president ended up on mount Rushmore obviously but they left his house as if they expected to come home so we went in there found a way road see that I have an interesting perspective on and guided for president I'd states his young one I can relate to because that's the president's house we went to visit Chris teddy Roosevelt right but I missed everything you said did you know I was just complaining about teddy Roosevelt he will or not I really was this is Chris you know what happened what so I don't know where you dropped out we were able to see you but not okay are you so we could not greatest moment of your career so I was just trashing teddy Roosevelt need work the second worst president of the twentieth century really a disaster right I don't think he was brought it up I don't even know if it impact any yet not much of a personality he was talk he was a madman and when he came back for his second run yeah he had gone completely crackers his presidency was bad news and his his greatest legacy was Woodrow Wilson and the rise of progressivism in America he would have booty are blue well I'm I don't feel the same way but Taft follow and then they argued about it and he certainly was the first one to bring that major personality to the bully pulpit which they named after him Hey you're not made your your that's terrible I'm a silent cal man what can I tell you so Chris just back to this president and the next president do you believe you know Charles has spring or a reporting less side of rock Obama if it Bernie does take the first two contests he's going to aggressively going out go out after him do you see that happening no I'd I have not read Charlie's reporting in Charlie is a fantastic reporter and he gets he gets the he gets gets so I would want to see more contacts about what it might mean I can see Obama I I cannot imagine the former president of any party actively campaigning in that party's nominating process it would be a mistake yeah for Obama it would be a mistake for Democrats it would cause a backlash it would be it just I can't the thing that would happen if Bernie starts rolling right so let's say he wins both Iowa and New Hampshire might win Nevada and biting his back up against the wall what I can see changing is the the the pressure on by right if Biden goes for three on his way to South Carolina yeah I can definitely say an intervention where Democrats including the former president in private comes to him and says you are about to wreck the ship and the danger for Bernie is the nominee is not in his ability to persuade people who you know remember millions of Americans are good for both of and then trump in in a big way whether they stick with trump or go to something else will determine the election but the biggest danger from Bernie Sanders is down ballot in the house and in the Senate for Democrats because interesting yeah he's a killer in the suburbs right if you've got a good job and your kids are going to a good school and you have health insurance which by the way describes a whole lot of voters right a whole lot of voters if you are those people Bernie Sanders is not an acceptable candidate and his rhetoric is not acceptable and he is what he is a self described socialist and when you ask about it he goes on these rants you heard in the last debate he sounded like Che Guevara and he's too easy for the Republicans in the suburban areas to say the Democrats have gone gone off a cliff you may not like Donald Trump but we're keeping it at least in right boundaries here so you got to go for the American system you gotta go for free enterprise you gotta go for us and not this that's the real danger from Bernie Sanders and faced with that threat the pressure on Biden would be huge to step aside for Bloomberg or some wellness center warrants been asked about our plans and how Medicare for all their work Bernie Nevers really press that I've seen and I can't wait to see him try to do the math carry the one and then realize you don't have enough money so that brings us to this conversation and it's a I can understand it on TV hope you're able to hear it on radio but this might be the Joe the plumber moment of this new cycle where Elizabeth Warren is confronted and they don't know they're on camera it will take a photo opportunity and the father walks up and just says are you going to forgive student loan debt and it goes a different direction I imagine said a Warner the Warren thought cut thirty no that thirty one the money we so yeah it's great to give away money but there's a whole lot of people that are working hard to get there is a wonder and and a little ticked off I think that's what this represents would let you know I think that this is exactly that and I think that it's a dire it is a great encapsulation of the problem with pandering right now I'm zero is great it's right hundred when you go to suck up to this constituency or that constituency the problem as if you're running for office is you pretty soon have to go face the other people right and there are lots of Democrats in the United States there lots of democratic primary voters in the United States who did exactly is this man did right they worked hard they set money aside they paid their bills they did the things that they were supposed to do they deny themselves and they live by the rules in order to create a better future for their children and what they're being told by Elizabeth Warren is that the joke will be on them and that they Bernie Sanders Elizabeth Warren are telling these people your full to play by the rules this is what economists talk about a moral hazard yeah that and it's sort of like the you don't have to play by.

"As manager after manager stepped up to lay out the evidence amassed against the president in precise and devastating detail it may have been the first time that many of my Republican colleagues heard the full story the complete narrative from start to finish on interrupted and not filtered through the kaleidoscope lends a fox news where it best things are left out and at worst things are terribly distorted very interesting fox news by the way of the ratings winner yesterday in the coverage of this impeachment trial they they carried it gavel to gavel and more people watch although is only eleven million total who watched it in America that doesn't sound like a lot as usual no that's not a huge number but fox led the in this which is interesting so welcome him maybe some maybe some of those people saying of some of this evidence for the first time we'll see if that number holds or increases I think people have seen this already we've seen the show in the in the hearings so it's like you know we're kind of like give us something new here here comes XO bombing campaign manager Jim Messina guy was really good when he was with Kenny Loggins they were so great harmonize so well and you know what then they kind of Brittany had the great career and everything else but you know will always remember Jimmy but he says it this morning that no question Bernie Sanders is going to be if he wins Iowa and New Hampshire goes on to win the democratic nomination he is going to be the worst candidate the devotion to Bernie Sanders is clearly understandable because a large part I think because of his consistency over the years on issues they value consistency makes him on white color in their minds politicians yeah and don't underestimate the fact that Bernie a lot of what he says the messages basically you can live your life for free will have free college tuition will have three this will forgive your student debt it's a powerful message it is but in the general election it's a message I think is going to getting killed yeah I mean I think he's the worst candidate in the general election for exactly that reason think Bernie stores I don't I don't think there's a question about it I think it's very clear to me that was the swing voters I care about the trouble bottled waters in the midwestern states Bernie Sanders is not the candidate we needed to be telling terminal however and in a couple of weeks it all starts yeah you have my caucuses and off we go to the races Jay Sekulow is the president's lawyer one of the president's lawyers and he he was scolded by by Chief Justice Roberts along with Jerry Nadler the Democrats after Susan Collins ratted them both out or ratted Nadler out but the the Chief Justice said you know Jay you're just as guilty of conduct unbecoming here on the Senate floor but Jay secolo says you know what I'm fine being yelled at I've I've been here before John Roberts before of course and I've known John Roberts he's he's.

"M. A. L. one oh five nine FM WMAL I look forward to talking with you on Sunday eleven AM for the underwriters corner so who's the underwriters corner with host Phil Parisi Sundays at eleven right here on WMAL it is the Sunday morning update it's great to have you with us and it's always good to have a heart for John if you right inside the beltway The Washington Times impeachments impeachment impeachment however the trump supporters reacting in the polls well good morning Rick and good morning everybody I have some research here that is simply saying that trump fans remain unwavering nothing is going to sway them you have to remember that truck motors is a like a a surprise demographic I mean remember they immersed in twenty sixteen out of almost no where sixty five million of them and for the most part they were overlooked and under estimated and all kinds of things until elections night but all that aside your company New York Post headline which kind of tells you everything new poll showed trump supporters won't be swayed by anything Jennifer coming from an air quality of mind and they've done a some research with a Monmouth university fall as an academic all it which came out on Tuesday what they had to say sixty two percent of people who approve of the job president trump is doing Hey there would be nothing the commander in chief could do to shake their support again that sixty two percent coming from a Monmouth university poll that's pretty pretty strong support and it also points out that there's a lot of people that have some equal negative sense well but the other thing is safety in those numbers if you're still sixty five million from folks out there and they're saying nothing is going to sway them that's not a bad bad thing either and also they point out that you know impeachment whether people see it as an ink where which under what have you the public is not confident in the process itself and from among the fall they say twenty four percent say they have trust in how the house impeachment inquiry is going to be conducted twenty nine percent have a little trust forty four percent have no trust whatsoever so early this morning we got a bunch of numbers here that are promising for Mr trump but as you and I know things can change but I love the idea nothing can sway those drug plans it being veterans day weekend you've got some poll numbers on how the vets are feeling about the president yeah more numbers but military that you have consistently had positive than some of the Bach resident drop and this could certainly come in a plane twenty twenty because you have to remember that there are a lot of military vets who vote and they make up thirteen percent of the entire voting population so if you're one of that you've got a nice voting block there and now that's actually according to a New York times analysis and is that that's still pretty darn good about Mr trump and it's been consistent in recent months in July there was a few research center survey that found it at just fifty seven percent of that approve of the job Mr trump is doing as commander in chief that commander in chief of the work there and among Republicans veterans that number is ninety two percent and here's a significant part of this wall it's as approval of trump does not differ significantly by air of military service looking specifically at veterans you serve before nine eleven and those who service extended beyond nine eleven nearly identical shares say they approve of the way trumpets handle handling his job as commander in chief in addition there is no significant gap in views between veterans who served as a commissioned officer noncommissioned officers or those who are not so he's got pretty good pretty good marks from our friends at the in the veterans community well we're in the military department cone in the Syria hero dog has probably surpassed Conan o'brien in terms of notoriety more about Conan yeah I have to revisit this dog I mean you know he was just the talk of the town for awhile and I have to revisit the the dog or find out where the heck he came from and get all this dog has a great heritage of a great pedigree as charming and wonderful and sort of amazing he's a Belgian now and wow and you through the use of dogs cornered ISIS leader and he has a are merged as a combat he nine years worked from from the thirty three hundred forty first training squadron at Lackland airforce base in San Antonio Texas and they have been preparing these products for such a mission since the nineteen sixties a lot of heritage there and according to major Matthew Kowalski's the commander of the water he says we treat these dogs like combat athletes they are a huge mission force multiplier for us again that's coming from the squadron leader he told us to the New York Post this week and specifically Conan is a graduate of the squadron guardians of the night program love that name which prepares a dog to do everything from detecting all of deadly explosions do taken down the enemies of the state and again coming from this is a civilian animal behaviorists who works with the dogs he says we want a dog who can be woken up at two in the morning stuck in a running helicopter flown somewhere for a couple of hours and he put a whole bunch of operators with lights flashing and shining and all that stuff and the dog to do their job and they start training the pop at six to eight weeks to learn to function in a chaotic environment and they do have an adoption plan from the docks either the dog who graduated or the dog didn't make it and if you're curious about that you can check with the three hundred forty first training squadron that's the three hundred and forty first training squadron at Lackland airforce bases Air Force strings glide well let's go a hundred eighty degrees in the opposite direction here Bernie Sanders some strange policy announcement this weekend about the border and illegal immigrants but also strange tee shirt yes it was talk a little bit about the culture of Mister Sanders campaign here and he is now and they'll sing with the great fanfare that the Bernie store is now selling protest unisex tee and you know who's coming from Bernie Sanders who used to be happy if people would just feel the burn but he's got a brand new shirt it's twenty seven dollars it is bright red cotton and it features a vintage black and white photographs showing Mister Sanders being arrested by the police there you go a Chicago Tribune here's what they say the photograph on the sure to pick Chicago police officers carrying protester Bernie Sanders age twenty one in August nineteen sixty three to a place where again all this from a civil rights demonstration in Chicago itself he was arrested charged with resisting arrest found guilty and fined twenty five dollars he was a university of Chicago at the time but that's what they put on their two shirts and Bernie Sanders plant okay since president trump has been elected it's been three years of emotion among people and you know family dinners and just generally with your friends it's really difficult if the topic of politics comes up and we haven't even gotten into twenty twenty and the election yes everybody's going crazy with their emotions at least according to politico they have a big fat the bowl of almost two thousand registered voters again a political morning counsel Paul and they answered how did they feel about the election and they actually supplied the emotion these are what they ask people how whether they felt this way or not they asked whether they were confident worried excited in different angry depressed happy issues proud hopeful board helpless interested frustrated or clueless about they how they feel at all and then I'll just give you a couple numbers of people will fall asleep but all that fall back to sleep anyway but the poll did find out that fifty six percent of US voters think that president trump likely will win re election in twenty twenty again this is coming from politico all that good eighty five percent of Republicans of thirty five percent of Democrats that's almost a third but it also found that the most pronounced emotions about the election were fifty two percent of voters overall feel worry but that includes ten percent of Republicans and twenty four percent of Democrats forty eight percent overall feel confident man couldn't sixty four percent of Republicans of forty eight percent of Democrats thirty nine percent overall feel happy and that's fifty three or percent of Republicans forty percent of Democrats and last but not least twenty and twenty nine percent overall feel helpless in that group twenty three percent of the Republicans and the thirty five percent of Democrats again that's coming from political one morning console so you could think about all those emotions as we go turning towards the holidays now we are turning towards the holiday bring some holiday cheer from one of the campaigns yeah this is some holiday cheer let's do something cool this is from of the trump campaign and they've got some holiday minded me I guess and this is a limited edition tropical same Christmas wrapping paper and there comes a very patriotic use of red white and blue and it's available from the national Republican congressional committee and I won't be advised to tell you that this wrapping paper is actually a premium for a donation to the group for about twenty five dollars so anyway these as classy looking paper and it the proceeds are going to you to use to defend president trump and conservatives in the U. S. house and the donor receives three rolls of the classy looking wrapping paper to be curious about that you can go to an R. C. C. dot org that's again the national Republican congressional committee and forward slash a trump Daschle wrapping dash paper to get mixed up call me at the paper and I'll give you that address again that that's a holiday rap with little trump catch to it now what a sweet holiday thought get that present wrapped for your liberal democratic friends and family members in the Republican wrapping paper yes the liberal trigger of all Jennifer Harper inside the beltway Washington times thank you very much you can follow her on Twitter throughout the week at Harper Fulton thank you thank you and have a good day everybody it is six forty eight is the Saturday morning update on W. "The apparatus, the airdrops, whatever because it started seems start reading the rooftop by the scaffolding about an hour ago. Or so now, it's everywhere in the the inside is just a disaster there in Paris. So keep an eye on all that thanks to all who participated yesterday in the big fly over the area parade. There's all have roots in the field. Warbirds gathering on Saturday, which is great. Their show steadier showed a visit there, and then of course, the flyover yesterday was part of that finale flying with Terry Brennan who is a fine. Fine. Pilot also happens to be the curator at Sega aerospace museum would flying in t thirty four is actually owned by Bill Anders of Apollo eight fame. The guy who took the earthrights photo that guy, and he is a great museum of his own fluid island Airways museum out in east county as well yesterday. So disagreed time. And if you saw that fly over the big finale six aircraft in formation, and boy that was that was exhilarating. So thanks to Terry. And in the whole group. For making that possible and be out there flying beautiful over to be buzzing, the crowds at the concord elegance in LA Hoya. It's just that's a lot of fun when it's legal good down there and just just play through of course, turn on the smoke. And then some of the people are saying there's the Chem trails. See I knew it. They're trying to control us fact last year. Flying with Tommy Graham, I got on the we've got an an to radio talking to Joe Graham who is fine flight instructor who is doing the MC work real Kardashian. But he had us connected. And I said ruined a turn on the Cam trails now Joe and the smoke came on that Chem trails. Save that for conspiracy day on Slater show. All lots more coming up on the other news of the day tax day. I know remember the simplified return. Some would like is how much money did you make last year? That's number one number two send it all in. And Bernie Sanders releasing his his tax returns. They have not seen those yet the policy the chief are hers out there. She's a very Feazel wealthy. One. Bernie Sanders now billionaire TV's not talking millionaires as much on the stump. Pelosi got the big piece on sixty minutes. We'll have that in a second here as well. As mentioned this earlier that even with all the money coming into the state of California. It's never enough. And you know, the fact that the economy's doing been doing better and the coastal parts of California do better than a lot of inland parts. Well. It causes politicians think everything's great. And they can just keep making more Gaca. Maybe schemes this at the same time people are going. You know, I think I'm gonna move to find out a neighbor's been next to us for years is moving SAP to Tennessee. Because she said I can't afford to live here anymore. Energy bills are killing me. Whatever. So the reality is you both know this if you just talk to people talk to neighbors, and France, there's not a week that goes by sometimes it's not a day that goes by without somebody saying, we have you say well are things going. What are you doing how we're gonna move to Nevada? They're always willing to Nevada. Tennessee, Texas, Florida any place with no state income tax for starters that actually ties into some of what's going on. With tax day stuff. I mentioned this at the start of the show today. John Meyers over at the LA times of this piece in the Sunday news rag, which is still receive the old fashioned way. So quaint and dumping the driveway. Animals get it gets waterlogged sometimes anyway, so newsome's budget governor governor governor of nuisance unveiled his budget back in January ended projected this month. The state of California would suck in nineteen point nine billion dollars. We are in tax date looking at the numbers three quarters of that would come from personal income taxes that have to be filed by tonight. Taxpayers favorites. Plans payments made in made January and June important months to April is a key indicator of how much money they're going to have for their insatiable appetite much like dragons on the game of thrones going I need to immolate someone consume them talking dragons in Sacramento. A lot of talking slugs up to the so the governor is looking at this month revenue connection and the collection especially today. It's more to revise his spending plan in may, and then they have legislative approval in June. That's when the dance used to be the beginning Sacramento when they start saying like San Diego unified does. Well, we're not sure we don't get an agreement. We're going to have to put out some things we might fire people, usually don't, but the dance and that we used to have the threats in the middle of the summer every year in Sacramento that were like, we don't come to budget. You're gonna start starving women and children and pets are going to be seeing ugly things. Then they came up with a new plan where that doesn't happen anymore. But then they hope you don't look at the other numbers, which we're looking at here. So through the end of March in state of California, total tax revenues were two point two billion with a B below expectations for the fiscal year that ends June thirtieth early data for April suggest revenue is holding steady. Maybe a little better than expected, which would be the Trump economy, by the way. On some levels. Gotta be not not only but some. Especially with California's tax regulatory climate. I mean. But they need more money. They always need more money in Sacramento. So notes the times piece that what happened? Well, they're not. They're not sure. Budget advisors for the governor is nothing more the delayed tax payments in February. His experts argued the Californians who used to pay their income taxes before the new calendar year and right off those state taxes on their federal taxes. No longer have any incentive because the tax overhaul. The Trump pushed takes away the incentive. It also there's one thing it reveals how much money California's for years going. I get the read enough. So what? Now, you realize how much how heavy the tax burden is. So that's actually a good thing. Because it makes people go how did this happen? Who's in charge after I know who's your state Senator who's your assembly member? You don't know. Then you're part of the problem bless, your heart. So state officials assume, and you know, what happens if we assume they assumed the money would show up at the end of this month. So this is the month of reckoning today's tax day. So if the theories right notes John Meyers in the times, the state of California's overall tax revenue picture will be back on track. And then they'll keep spending profligate the that's a big word, sailors, like drunken, sailors, no offense, real drunken, sailors their hearts. Newsome says he is he he's predicting a twenty one point six billion dollar discretionary cash. Reserve to which other people who are more extreme even the news that and let spend that to those numbers are already counted onto boost ready a number of programs for needy families translate to let's see if we can get them to vote for us. And yeah and education opportunities for the children. All children for education opportunities, but there's so much money out there. And so we still don't have air conditioning every sandiego school. I know they're working on it eventually, and then what a fun to full access those in the US illegally. Yes. Even for legal's to medic hell, that's part of the reason that you get the money. So we can give these benefits to people who are here illegally. And most or all of the missing money. Well, the dut if it stays missing notes the times the governor nuisance Newsom and democrat lawmakers will be faced with scaling back some of their ambitions plans now and into the future. So Jerry Brown. See this is where miss Jerry Brown. Compared to Newsom because Brown used to say, I I don't think it's going to be that big. He always limited the expectations didn't commit to a lot of the spending plans until after tax day. Do some said good bet big. He also said, yeah, let's let's say bunny on the bullet trae, let's not do that. We'll just do Mercer debaters field. You realize nothing's happened on it still is sold. Billions of bonds. We had the other day, which sucks. Thank you. You could call them. Knocking and the other thing is he we wanna basically have healthcare. They're still a push even in this. Where's the revenue environment in Sacramento? We have some people ought to know better saying, let's just have our own healthcare plan for all the California. How you're gonna pay for it. We don't know doesn't matter. It's tax day. Send it all in. Kamala Harris released fifteen years of tax returns, waiting for the ten Trump's not going to release his they can huff and puff o. They want Bernie store on his out there today because he's doing well. So as Harris, she was Coppola. He was married in twenty fourteen Douglas, m hav LA attorney, so they tax return for this past year with for filing for tax day today. Two million income they paid nearly seventy seven hundred thousand dollars in taxes. Doing well, just like Elizabeth Warren. They. They do quite well, they also gave sixty thousand dollars to charity, including fifteen thousand the American Cancer Society. So not exactly tithing at that level. Does judgmental just pointing out numbers. So so there's those so there's a lot of people in politics public servants. Again, there's nothing keeping me keeping Kamala Harris or Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren from sending all their money and showing how big hearted. They are the way to the law changes for buddy else, they can send all their money in to help the children in the puppies. If they want to right. Meanwhile, here's Nancy Pelosi on the show. I've sorry, I it was a fascinating piece by Leslie Stahl, and Leslie Esther a few tough questions on sixty minutes last night. But but Nancy Pelosi. And I don't wanna sound sexist here. But I probably will we she looks really good for almost eight years old give her that. But she does that thing she kept doing last night and to CBS credit. They just let it go where she sucking on her teeth. It's like she does what she's behind the president during the state of the union message. It's distracting from her message. Anyway, here's a little bit of the not so tough questions the Pelosi. The state.

"Thanks for the great show. Wonderful care. Now, I've been authorized to say that all radio listeners. Come to your seminar today. Get twenty percents off on anything in the bird department. That's what they bring me a shrimp salad sandwich salad sandwich. That that's special that in the managers came up with for everybody. Yeah. All right. So it's going to be for everybody. Whoever comes from the seminar twenty percent off on everything and I'd like to say that we've recreated the whole bird category Edgewater. It was it was great before. But now, it's spectacular. Several months project took took quite a while for me to conceive everything to kind of gather my information to come up with the appropriate. And Jason sees where for persons looking for suet that they have the options there like we have all the suicide has mealworm Senate one section one other one that has the fruit in it. We have the sewer that has all the hot material, we have suet ball, suet plugs. All these things were becomes very shop. And it's just a great if you haven't seen a bird category Edgewater. It'd be a great experience to go down there because it's pretty spectacular. If I must say so myself, and one of the nice things is we're going to be able by creating new space that the Eysenck Pasadena, we're going to be able to recreate that whole area, and we're going to actually double it in size and bring all the great things that are available at Edgewater to Pasadena and the Glen Bernie area. Now, Glen Burnie. We're also going to be redo. Doing we're going to put the best of the best in the Glen Bernie store long with of course, the birds gone wild and the woodpecker Weli and all those kind of things like that the seeds. I don't know if you were told you Ellen how that the term woodpecker. Well, he came about you did not I created all these names awhile back, and I got with Berkman feed who bags all the food for wild birds unlimited says what the quality of the foods, really great. But I created these names one was birds gone wild. And that was a take off from the television show girls, gone wild. So I kind of had a vision if you put really great food now you'll have birds looking like they're having a party around the feeders that was one, but woodpecker Wiley back when I was a kid a lot of your listeners can probably relate to this. When I was in college. There was a marijuana called Maui. Wowie? So in my in my idle time in my mind, kind of ran away. I thought wow, I could see like like woodpeckers just loving this food and their is rolling around their heads saying. Oh, wow. This is really good. So woodpecker Weli. That's how that came about. That is an interesting story. And I wasn't on marijuana when I created okay? I never did that either. Thank you. Okay. Never now. Let's so Edgewater is done. Yes. Pasadena's next. Yes. Seminar will be Pasadena today. We're we're having the seminar. They're also we're gonna be talking about the same things there that we'll talk about niche water. Okay. And then Pasadena cubs as then Glen Burnie comes Glen Burnie. He's.
