Senate Democrats move immediately to "Plan B" on minimum wage
"Yesterday we told you That the parliamentarian head ruled that the dollar minimum wage does not pass muster for reconciliation and must be taken out of a covid relief. Bill now We clarified unlike most of the media. That the parliamentary and actually has no power whatsoever It is just give an advisory opinion is not an actual ruling. The person who does the ruling is actually the presiding chair of the senate was normally is the vice president so comma. Harris is going to have a huge part in this conversation now wants the parliamentarian gave her so called ruling. All the democrats immediately gave up on fifteen dollars minimum wage as things stand now they are going to be taking that provision is going to be taken out of the bill and we will not get fifteen dollar minimum wage for at least four years now. There is a way to prevent it. There are four steps here. I'm going to walk through all four steps and you will see that if we do this. It's actually very doable. To keep it in the bill and to actually win on this issue but it requires courage from progressives and then Requires us to put public pressure on some of our allies and then eventually to the biden administration and sure so step one is unfortunately right now the most important step and where we're going to have to call out bernie sanders bernie sanders. Is the chair of the budget committee. The chair of the budget committee the signs. What is in the kobe. Relief bill bernie sanders. Current plan is to take fifteen dollars minimum wage out of the covid relief. Bill that is a terrible idea. He should not do that. If corporate democrats are going to vote against let them vote against it but doing it on their behalf. i cannot overstate. What a bad idea that is in that scenario that right now is what is going to happen unless we change it together bernie would kill the fifteen dollar minimum wage on behalf of joe manchin and joe by. He should not do that. So that's this is step one. I'm going to get to the other steps in a second guys. I need you to immediately participate. We've got a campaign we've got a partition and and we've got hashtags. We must do all of the above and the campaign is called. Don't kill it bernie because yes step one indisputably. It is a matter of fact. Is that the budget chair decides if it goes in the bill that is bernie sanders. That was the whole point of him being budget share. If he's going to take out. Fifteen dollar minimum wage will take out every provision the joe manchin and joe biden are opposed to that means we will get no progressive priorities past none. The fifteen dollars. Minimum wage was literally the bare minimum. It was the first ask of progressives so bernie. You've got to keep it in the bill because if he does not keep it in the bill. It's over that hashtag fight for fifteen. There is no more fight. That means progressive surrender. I'm being honest with you. Guys our job is to do the news. Those are the facts of how this process works so go to the petition. All right and here. Let's put it up for you guys and it's simply called. Don't kill it bernie. And what is saying is we don. T have a clear message. Don't take it out of the bill. It's one hundred percent your call on whether you keep it in the bill or take it out of the bill. Do not do that because if you take it out of the bill and you kill it then we will not be able to get back to it for four long years and there's no reason for it so and and if you're tweeting about this at all please use hashtag. Don't kill it bernie. Because we must get senator sanders to turn around. There are no other steps if he takes it out of the bill now if he keeps it in the bill now let me walk you through how we could actually win on this step two would be since it's in the bill. The presiding officer of the senate would have to rule to take it out of the bill. So kamala harris who in her role as the vp would normally be the presiding officer. The senate would have to actively vote with republicans or side with republicans the and the parliamentarian for what it's worth again. The parliamentarian has no vote. No power just gave a rando opinion on what they think they should do it. The republicans would never care about it. It it has no force of law at all. in fact it's being used as an excuse by kamla harris show schumer and the others to kill a provision. They were never in favor of so. Then we have to put pressure on comma harris to not side with mitch mcconnell. Can we do that. Yes yes we can definitely do that. If chuck schumer wants to protect com la- harris and he puts another senator in as the presiding officer. Will they will put pressure on chuck schumer. Would you like to continue to be the senator from new york. There are a lot of progressives in new york very very strong. Progressives in new york that could easily take that seat not easily but that could certainly have a shot at taking that seat. So now here's the most part steps three if she decides to take it out of the bill. There's nothing we can do about it comma harrison show schumer will then actively be saying okay. We killed the fifteen dollar minimum wage because we never wanted in the first place but if we get past that step and go. You win you win. We're keeping it in the bill. Then mitch. Mcconnell would object. Mitch mcconnell would then say. I want to appeal the ruling of the chair. Now here's a great news. Since joe manchin a cinema cap the filibuster and so two joe biden. They would need sixty votes to overrule the chair. So that means they need to break our filibuster to overrule the ruling of the chair. They're not gonna get sixty votes. We win okay. There is a separate more but understand before we go to step four step. Four is awesome but right now you understand how simple it is with. Depression brought to keep it in the bill. We have to pressure mention not mansion comma harris and chuck schumer to not side with republicans. Why god is a progressive movement. If we can't do that what can we do. Do we have any power or don't we have any power. Were about to find out. And then step for is if the republicans cannot break the filibuster. The mcconnell has one last option and this is wonderfully ironic. He would have to ask for fifty vote margin and straight up and down. Vote to kill the filibuster in regards to the votes of the presiding chair of the senate now mansion cinema have said that and biden said that the filibuster is the most precious thing in the world to them. So what are they going to. Now turn around just to make sure you don't get higher wages and they're gonna vote to kill the filibuster in this regard. I mean you would be the most spectacularly hypocritical thing they have ever done and they've done some pretty hypocritical fix so you put them in an near impossible situation and it is incredibly doable but step one is do not surrender. Guys one last thing before we go to john and jordan. There's ninety two billion dollars online. This would be a pay raise for about thirty million americans and to the tune of ninety two billion dollars every single year the reason why biden mansion and the republicans don't want to do it is because the chamber of commerce is dead set against it they are those business interests are giant donors to both the republican party and the democratic party. And those donors are saying. I wanna keep the ninety two billion dollars. I want to give it to my workers. I want to keep their wages incredibly low now go do my bidding. And they do now. Bernie is not in that camp. But he's getting pressure from the other democrats to take it out of the bill. We in a sense have to back them up by saying bernie. We do not agree. We do not agree. Don't kill it bernie. Don't kill it
Why drug costs are top issue for South Carolina voters
"The twenty twenty race is barreling ahead South Carolina's primaries on Saturday Super Tuesday less than a week away. There are eight. Twenty twenty presidential democratic hopefuls remaining and each of them is angling for a way to stand out fast but the front runner has come to dominate this race and his signature policy has come to dominate the national discussion on Healthcare. Medicare for all Medicare for Medicare for all Medicare for all healthcare system that guarantees healthcare to all people in a cost effective way. Which is what Medicare for all is. That's Bernie Sanders. Of course the Democratic senator from Vermont Democratic Front runner and probably know policy proposal has marked this election more than Bernie Sanders Medicare for all after a strong victory in Nevada Bernie Sanders emphasis on this trademark. Issue appears to have paid off. Democratic candidates agree on expanding health care coverage they're divided on how to ensure everyone weather to ensure everyone and of course how to pay for it. All so how are their plans similar? How are they different? And how do they all compare to any plans that might be put forward by their eventual opponent? President Donald Trump. We've been talking to the candidates one by one part of our own ongoing series foresight twenty twenty. And now we're branching out foresight twenty twenty the issues. It's a series all about where the candidates stand on. What really matters most to you the voter and today it's healthcare more specifically Medicare for all. Here helps out ratchet up predominant correspondent for Kaiser Health News. She covers healthcare all across America. Thanks for being here. Thank you know Levy is here. He's a national health care reporter for the L. A. Times. No one great to see you. Nice to be here and Dan. Diamond is here health reporter for politico and host of politicos pulse. Check podcast. Dan. Great to see you as well. Thanks for having me a Russian up before. We break down each of the candidates policies with a lot to talk about. We'll get to a lot of the details on medicare for all in what the different candidates say they favor here. Can you talk about? How significant health care is for voters as we head in this into this election. What are voters say about? The importance of healthcare to them so healthcare is definitely the top if not one of the top issues for voters regardless of party affiliation so lowering prescription drug costs very very popular among the public That has been true for years. They've been telling Congress they telling presidential candidates. We need to do something about the rising cost of drugs Please basically begging a few other things. Also there's a lot of widespread support. I think that people want to see the candidates Flush out plans on say they'll resolve So rising surprise medical bills dealing with the OPIOID crisis protecting protections for pre existing medical conditions. These are all things that voters really WANNA see. The candidates Expand upon us. They run from the. I used to be a healthcare reporter a younger man. There was a time when I could have been on your side of the table for this discussion. Healthcare was always one of the top issues. Voter said I care about healthcare. They said that in surveys but there was never any evidence that they actually voted on it that when they went into the into the ballot box in and and pulled the curtain even though they told a pollster they care about it whether that's what was driving their vote. It happened in election after election. And I think there are certain extent that's still Still the case because healthcare does mean different things to different people as an issue. Rosina's correct that that Democrats and Republicans have identified it as a top concern but to what extent or voters making their decision to vote for candidate X or candidate. Why based on healthcare. Probably not that much instead. I think probably the way to look at the healthcare issue in the Democrat. Republican divide is is it a proxy for The way that they evaluate president trump the Democratic nominee? The one exception I would say is Medicare for all which I think is playing a greater role in Democratic primary voters making a decision if you like Medicare for all sanders is probably your guy now. Medicare for all. Let's talk about it. It has important interactions with the way that most of us get our insurance right which is through work. I I WANNA say one hundred sixty one hundred and seventy million Americans get their insurance through work. It is the most common way and we got this call in our voice mail inbox. I'M KIARA FROM DENVER. I would gladly take Medicare for all over my employer sponsored insurance. They currently pay ten thousand dollars annually. When you add up premiums deductibles out of pocket expenses and that does not include vision or dental expenses whereas Medicare for all would be rolled into our taxes it would actually offset the cost already paying and then it would also expand cover dental and vision. I also feel like it's a great way to take care of your entire community and your nation as a whole which will make us all healthier and happier and I feel like it's a great way to create more freedom in the workplace where people are less afraid of beating their job. Just keep their benefits and people would have more choice in the providers. They see because they wouldn't have to choose a provider just solely based on who accepts their insurance. So Dan what is Medicare for all people have heard about Medicare? They probably know what that is. It's the government program for folks over sixty five and disabled people. Medicare's extremely popular. What does it mean when we say Medicare for all I think it depends which candidate is saying Medicare for all what does it mean to Bernie Sanders Bernie Sanders would articulate a vision of Medicare for all? That's very similar to the vision. The caller just shared a program. That is universal single. Payer every American would be on this plan. As opposed to employer plan it would cover things beyond traditional Medicare. So it's not strictly speaking the Medicare that my grandparents my parents might might know in love. It would also have new power to negotiate with the private sector to lower drug prices by putting government emphasis behind that and cut out the administrative overhead and bureaucracy that helps contribute to cost going up in America at the same time. That plan is dramatic and expensive and all the things that Republicans are poised to seize on and many Americans also say they're worried about too. So there's there's give and take with Medicare for all. It would be the big elephant in the room right. It would have the ability to go to medical providers hospitals drug companies and say we are the only game in town. You'RE GONNA drive those prices down but also we've heard cost estimates in the trillions because it is a massive government entitlement Bernie Sanders himself has referenced thirty trillion dollars over a decade in paying for Medicare for all his campaign sanders himself have come out with different proposals to defray that cost. But if you actually look at what the Sanders campaign has offered. It hasn't added up to more than about half of that thirty trillion dollars. Some would say that that doesn't matter the. Us pays for all kinds of things that aren't as positive as medicare for all. His supporters are point to the Iraq war and. Us didn't necessarily look for the pay. Fors before heading off on on that misadventure. But I do think that these are the issues that Congress will have to grapple with now Rochester other candidates talk about a public option or some of them talking about not Medicare for all but may be more people can buy into Medicare be part of Medicare. Even if you're not sixty five or public option means something else right. So the public option is the approach. That is Sort of being pursued by the more moderate wing if you will of the current Democratic presidential Field so Joe Biden p Buddha Judge Mike Bloomberg. They're all amy. Klobuchar are among the candidates. That are saying we would set up a government run insurance option that people could buy into essentially but a lot of the existing programs that currently provide health insurance to people. So job is coverage as you said. the Medicaid program Medicare those would continue to exist The public option the proponents of it. Want to push that as a way to say look. We don't WanNa rip up the whole system. We don't need to start from scratch. Here's a way to build on what we have and not cause as much disruption as Medicare for all would inevitably Pursue Dan avoiding disruption is great but it also means you don't insure as many people that's the trade off that supporters of Bernie Sanders and to some extent Elizabeth. Warren say it's not worth. Do there needs to be bold action? I JUST WANNA call out. Todd how fast we have moved on this debate Russia and I used to work together at politico we worked on a story for years ago about Hillary Clinton supporting public option and at the time her campaign was not keen to call attention to that we have moved to a world where that is now the moderate choice and go a couple of years before that the debate over Obamacare the affordable care act in Congress. The public option at that time was the high watermark for Barack Obama. Trying to get it through the Senate and he couldn't even get that that's why you have no public option under the right
Strategist Steve Schmidt Discusses Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump
"Do you think that Bernie Sanders is the biggest threat to your president trump? Right now I do think so I would say that the biggest threat to president trump is president trump. What do you mean by that? Well if he's on his game as he was at the state of the Union there's a candidate in the country that can beat them if there is a second choice of than himself it would be Bernie Sanders Bernie. Sanders brings out outside game in a similar fashion. That president trump did in two thousand sixteen interesting moment there with Tim. Scott of South Carolina Senator Bernie Sanders coming off a big win in Nevada. And on Saturday we will come to what is only. Let's remember the second primary of the political season. Let's talk about the state of our politics with us. Now Steve Schmidt a veteran former Republican strategist us since left the Republican Party. But he's here with US tonight. That's all we care about. Let's take them one at a time. Let's start with the Republicans. Start WITH SENATOR. Scott's point the biggest risk to donald trump is donald trump because we just had shannon petty peace with with a straight face as a reporter. Say It's another one of these crises corona virus. That trump didn't start himself. Well Look Tim. Scott is correct. I mean the person that is always created the most powerful for Donald trump politically is is donald trump but since his acquittal by the Senate as he's purging the government of anybody he thinks is disloyal as he is taking his revenge is he is a visceral rating the rule of law in unprecedented fashion. Interfering in criminal cases the Department of Justice his poll numbers are going up and so he is consolidating power at an alarming rate in doing so liberally. Let's talk about the Democrats and as we do. I WanNa play the Clip Bernie. Sanders campaign manager. Came on with Chris Hayes earlier on this network tonight. We'll look at that one of the reasons that I love and fight for Bernie Sanders. There's integrity and honesty. You get with him and what that means is when you ask them a direct question he gives you a direct response comes from his heart from his soul. Tells you exactly what he's thinking right and that means that sometimes you may disagree with his perspective but you know he's he's shooting straight with. He's not playing a political game. So when you ask them about. Hey how about Cuba and the Castro? Oh well he's an authoritarian. He's engaged in human rights abuses however there were some good things that happened in Cuba. We should acknowledge those two. And that's an honest answer and then other people will play political games. And that's why for instance Chris. I think over the course of this campaign. We've benefited from the fact that his stray shooting his integrity. His honesty rises above other people's efforts to try to offer political barbs and try to throw cheap shots in the kitchen sink at him that were tonight and at a CNN town hall and the last hour people to judge just said in effect here. We are as a party. We're talking about Fidel Castro. Indeed and they are and you look at travesty of a debate if you're in the business of wanting to remove Donald Trump from office. The one thing that wasn't talked at all about in that debate was trump or trumpism and so the campaign managers talking about Bernie Sanders Integrity. Is he showing integrity by not releasing his medical records? Is he showing transparency and integrity by not talking about the Price Tag associated with student? Loan Forgiveness Free Pre pre K. daycare for everybody. And there's no price tags on any of this. It's a dishonest progressivism. That's NO DIFFERENT THAN DONALD. Trump's dishonesty talking about the Mexican paid for wall it's all fantasy and so when Bernie Sanders goes out there. He starts talking about well. Here's the good sides of Fidel Castro. I think it's important to understand that there might be a constituency for that in this country but it's a really small one and it's certainly not enough to get you into an electoral college majority to win the White House. And it certainly dooms your chances in Florida. How do you process the fact that tomorrow night? We're going to have seven people on stage. Two of them are billionaires. Two of them look at real double digit poll numbers knowing that money bought those poll numbers not some inner need to have them as our next president. How do we process that well? I think they're two different cases right so first off. Mike Bloomberg was the mayor of New York City for twelve years and by any objective standard. He was one of the most competent successful leaders of large government anywhere in the world over the last quarter century. He was a profoundly successful mayor. I think it's a mistake for Democrats to attack. Somebody like Mike. Bloomberg who grew up in a middle-class circumstance and is a self made man is one of the country's greatest philanthropists and I disagree with him on a number of different issues but if you are invested in progressive causes. It's hard for me to think of anybody who has done more to advance progressivism whether it's on gun issues whether it's on climate then has Mike Bloomberg so the notion that Mike Bloomberg is on that stage somehow illegitimately is not something that I really understand. Tom Steyer has been an activist in American politics. Now for some period of years he has communicated a message. He's gotten the requisite poll numbers to be on the stage. The question will be after the South Carolina primaries. If you have eight moderate Democrats all of whom might have a greater chance of beating Donald Trump and does Bernie Sanders? Will some of those candidates get out of the race to help coalesce support around the strongest? Moderate candidate? Poor the issue right now in the Democratic primaries you cannot make an objective judgement and say Bernie Sanders is going to go down to Donald Trump in the swing states on the basis of poll numbers because the poll numbers. Don't support that in those states. But when you look at Bernie Sanders positions that we should criminalize illegal immigration. That we're going to take health insurance away from one hundred fifty million people who have private health insurance a of other issues the type of rhetoric that you saw him use on sixty minutes talking about Castro. All of these issues come together. In a way that I think objectively with James Carville said is disqualifying for somebody running for president in somebody. Who'S LIKELY TO LOSE TO DONALD TRUMP and I think that's what you're saying. A lot of panic in the democratic electorate in the democratic officeholder class in these days really focused on Steve Schmidt always a pleasure. Thank you for
Bernie Sanders briefed by US officials that Russia is attempting to help his campaign
"Off senator Bernie Sanders disavowed alleged Russian efforts to help his campaign after The Washington Post did report that U. S. officials have determined Moscow is attempting to interfere in the democratic primary race on his behalf intelligence officials also warning lawmakers last week that Russia was interfering the twenty twenty campaign by trying to get president trump reelected help us sort this without John all right it is true that Vladimir Putin said he preferred the reelection of president trump it is also true that the mischief making on the part of the chrome run in the practice of democracies worldwide has extended to the democratic nomination process and who else would Russia favor from the candidate who went on his honeymoon in the old Soviet Union and breezed into the high yield one Bernie Sanders Bernie Sanders's disavow alleged Russian supporters of the United States this reporter sees it differently having watched and studied airplanes what Russian involvement was heavily particularly among the Russian emigre community in
Where does the Democratic primary stand after New Hampshire?
"A license join me earlier in the program from NPR she's also a familiar face on fox news talking about twenty twenty the Democrats and much more here's part of my conversation with Mara okay where to begin let's let's start with New Hampshire okay and your response your reaction your analysis now that were a bit removed from what happened about where this race currently stands I think the race currently stands with one candidate who seems to have consolidated the left lane of the party that's Bernie Sanders and the center lane is filled with candidates and sap lane has not coalesced around a single alternative to Sanders he's been winning with twenty two percent of the vote twenty five percent of the vote much much less that he got last time remember New Hampshire twenty sixteen a bit help be calorie Clinton by twenty two percent two got something like sixty percent of the vote what New Hampshire told us this time is a lot of that code for Bernie Sanders last time was anti Hillary it wasn't necessarily pro Sanders because that though didn't just go to another left wing candidate Elizabeth Warren get when people to catch any club which are it tells you that Sanders is the leader he has the most plausible path to get a plurality of delegates just what we see now but the big question is can the center left coalition around one person so let's discuss coalescence first on the progressive side you mentioned Elizabeth Warren she put out at this appeal basically pleading with her supporters earlier saying I need money and I need it now to stay viable through super Tuesday is she don it is done if he can't win somewhere where is she going to win that's a question I mean she was not just competing in New Hampshire he was from Massachusetts message right candidates have a built in advantage that mediate the share of media market with New Hampshire Bernie Sanders is also a neighbor but not the kind of neighbor that people from Massachusetts are so people really knew Alyssa formed in New Hampshire on a voted for her in fourth place and she also put a huge amount of time and effort into Iowa a massive ground game she came in distant third then really stumbled I mean fourth place in Iowa a in in New Hampshire rather is is really catastrophic for her and that's your point is right I look ahead to the next couple states and then super Tuesday where do you see a you know low hanging fruit to be plucked by Elizabeth Warren to actually know where I don't really see nowhere nowhere I don't see one do you think he might want her to stick around just to to eat out aggressive voters so it doesn't get easier for Bernie no yes if that was true but I don't think her voters work all going to Bernie I'd like early on progresses decided if we want to choose between two left wing candidates let's choose the guy who's been around the longest and has never wavered in his belief in our again that may pick Bernie what he started shedding voters remember Elizabeth Warren was once at the top of the heap at the polls when he started hitting voter she showed them to Amy Klobuchar and people to catch so that was pretty interesting this is not has not been a neatly dividing ideological race very important point and I just add one note on that yeah so I saw morning console call where they ask democratic voters for their second choice right to the got their favorite but if not him or her then who and among Joe Biden's supporters next on the depth chart number two choice was Bernie Sanders and rally for Bernie Sanders yeah yeah everyone keeps saying well if if these people all get together then they can stop burning and it's just not quite that simple but it is very obvious that the establishment of the party the center left they're getting extremely worried about Bernie Sanders James Carville is out there shouting to anyone who will listen this is a disaster in the making listen to cut five he was Carville on TV there's a certain part of the Democratic Party wants us to be a cult I'm not interested in being in a call I'm I'm seventy five years old I'm just not a not a very cold to person the only thing the plane began nine states in the abyss if the Democratic Party and if we go to where the British labor party if we nominate German Coleman is going to be to end today I am I'm scared to death I really am the end of days and of course the Jeremy Corbyn references to Bernie Sanders Bernie firing back in cut for Hey was it all the respect is a political hack who said very terrible thing was what he was working for Clinton against Barack Obama Vicki said some of the same things we are taking on troll the Republican establishment call gold and the democratic establishment but at the end of the day the grass roots movement that we are putting together of young people of working people of people of color want real change
Bernie Sanders slams Biden: He brings 'a lot of baggage' into the race
"Thirty one days. That is how close we are to the Iowa caucuses just thirty one days new fundraising numbers giving us a snapshot into the current state of play with the big take away the Bernie Sanders or at least his fundraising operation appears to be surging at probably. Just the right moment. His campaign says arrays almost thirty five million dollars in in the fourth quarter of last year. Tops among Democrats who've reported an almost ten million more than second-place Mayor P Buddha judge former vice president Joe Biden and injure Yang Round out the rest of the top fundraising numbers Elizabeth. Warren said today that she's going to report numbers soon now. Shortly after today's numbers were published Anders took a direct shot at Joe Biden's ability as a candidate saying unquote. It's just a lot of baggage. Joe Takes into a campaign which isn't going to create energy and excitement. He brings into this campaign record which is so weak that it just cannot create the kind of excitement and energy that is going to be needed to defeat Donald trump moments go by responded Bernie Sanders Bernie lots of luck in your senior year Bernie joining me now is Howard Dean former Democrat Democratic presidential candidate and chairman of the DNC and also I see mills and political commentator and Democratic Strategist Governor Dean the back and forth between Senator Sanders and Vice President Biden. It does seem like clearly the closer we get to Iowa the the I mean this is the most obvious involving the sharper. The attacks are becoming. And that's I mean that's par for the course. This is so familiar from sixteen years ago. I bet he is amazing Yeah no that's this is what the what happens. So you got thirty days to go. Iowa is going to focus the presidential race and attention of the of the Democratic primary voters on the winner of this race ace and the next two or three and so yeah this is. This is the battle for the president of the United States. And it's GONNA get rough. I what we haven't seen is sanders ZANDER's going after Elizabeth Warren Senator Warren and I mean obviously. Do they have to do that or is there any reason for him. I'm she's been sort of imploding and certainly fundraising problems and not. She seemed to have lost some momentum from some of the debates do you think sanders feels feels he doesn't need to go down that road and possibly alienate people. Who if they like war and they decide she's not viable would go to him so the first thing I'll say is that I wouldn't characterize Elizabeth Warren campaign in any way shape or form as imploding? I think that you know when you raise twenty million dollars and a quarter or whatever. She's GONNA report. I don't know what that number is. That's hardly imploding. I think the reason he's and why though you're not gonNA see Bernie Sanders go directly after Elizabeth Warren because we are in this Democratic primary in an ideological battle and the two of them are ideologically on the same team. This is a battle between progress. Do we care about lifting up all the people do we care about the small guy about small donors. Um What is the vision for the Democratic Party America about inclusivity who gets to be at the table and then there's doing business as usual and so that's really what this debate is about. And so when you see the Joe Biden saying well I'm the guy who's been around for a really long time. Remember me you guys know what I did. I'm going to do more of that. Well people who support at Elizabeth Warren or war a Bernie Sanders. Don't really believe that that's the way we should move forward. We actually need some kind of change. We need some growth of different governor dean. When you hear a British pretty senator saying look you know? Joe Biden is not going to get people excited mayor you know. You look at Buda. Well, let's find out what happens if the ratings are not good, whether or not, Mr. spades, sticks to that now new poll. Shows Trump trailing Biden. Trump also trailing. Bernie sanders. Bernie Sanders in a FOX poll has gone down. Here's what Sanders said. In response to the FOX poll, showing him losing support while I explain it in a sense that polls go up polls go down. But the other part of the poll, fired you correctly, Chris is that I am beating President Trump Felli decisively, which is consistent with all of the polling that I have seen. I think, frankly, I am the strongest candidate to defeat Trump. I think we can win in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan and some of the other battleground states. And that's a fight that I look forward to Sanders is not wrong about the FOX poll showing him beating Trump by about the same margin as Biden, if beating Trump. The FOX poll shows Biden, beating Trump forty nine thirty nine percent among all registered voters Sanders has no the same advantage. Forty nine percent to forty percent nine point versus Tim points. Dr Gerard Lameiro, and Dr Lameiro welcome again in the Bill Cunningham show, Dr Romero, how are you? I'm doing great. And I hope you're doing well to want to get a real good. I'm doing well. I want to get a reaction from you on the current events. Joe Biden announcing for the presidency, but seemingly being completely incompetent and doing. So we now have Bernie Sanders Bernie Sanders saying that the Yuna bomber and the marathon Boston bomber should be voting that rapist and child murderers and killers of every description convicted drug dealer serving twenty years in prison for killing hundreds and thousands of people should also vote. We we have a situation here doctoral Mero, where fado Aurora pretends to be Hispanic when he isn't. And Senator Kamala Harris pretends to be African American when she is. Isn't the only guy really legit like Lisbeth, Warren pretends to be an Indian, and she isn't. The only one not pretending as Bernie Sanders. He's a communist and he says, so he says, I'm a socialist democrat. What's the difference between that and communism the answer is nothing? So at least you got somebody saying who he is give me the state of the race here at the end of April. Well, it's fascinating to watch. Because this is almost like the Star Wars bar scene. If you remember that. Yes. Yes. Well, I'll tell you right now in terms of I watch it very closely numbers Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden and Pete Buddha. Jets are the ones are in the lead. And all of them are pretty likely to go down into bitter defeat against President Donald Trump in the re election, but right now, Bernie's ahead largely because of his name recognition, and the fact that he was doing well because Hillary Clinton was doing so poorly in twenty sixteen, but he's you know, he's basically following the Santa Claus strategy and all the unoriginal other Democrats seem to be copying him. They're trying to out Santa Claus. Santa claus. Nights ago yet center. Elizabeth Warren on stage talking about excusing excusing student debt and everything's free in college. Even the Washington Post editorialized said we can't do that the problem with higher education is already costs too much because of the administrators and all the buildings and all the expenses because of title nine programs. They don't educate anymore. The last thing we need is for more Americans to go to prison and to go to go to college. When you think about it, the doctor Lameiro, we have six million jobs can't be filled which are blue collar jobs, so to say to somebody guess what you need to go to college because it's all free more people would go, which would aggravate the problem, not lessen it. It'd be worse. If we open up the doors of the colleges to everybody, we'd have a bunch of pencil neck geeks and pinheads who know all about Yates Shelly in English, but we don't nothing about the practicalities of life even the wash. Post said you can't have free college for number one. It would collapse the banks in the financial system to excuse. One point six trillion dollars in debt. Number two. We have colleges bursting at the seams within the vigils who should not be there. And so the cost of going screens out a few people if you would open up the doors at colleges, universities communicate to everybody. There's no cost plus a guaranteed income. Why work, but Secondly, do we have a problem higher education that we don't have enough people in higher education? Is that the problem, of course, not and it turns out that all of these Democrats with their Santa Claus and free lunch strategies of getting elected. They're all coming up with the weirdest ideas. The the green new deal is the probably the lowest estimate that I've seen that's realistic is ninety three trillion dollars the cost and I've seen estimates. Over a hundred trillion dollars for the AFC green new deal. And they're you know, jumping on the bandwagon for that crazy stuff like getting rid of all cows getting rid of planes, and by the way, how you going to get to Hawaii take a high-speed train. No, not not even center. No, who's kind of a goofball. She doesn't she's in favor of the green new deal, which means that. There's no pigs chickens cows. There's no gasoline. There's no trucks. There's no airplanes every buildings got to be re-equipped with green energy a mandates. We get rid of all the jobs, by the way. The you're not auto workers. The UAW is very unhappy about the green new deal, guess what? They'd be out of work. No jobs for blue collar Americans. This is a recipe for economic bankruptcy. They wanna put our country into bankruptcy with their crazy ideas that are totally nonsensical. And are totally unrealistic and are unaffordable. And by the way, if we were out Dopp, the green new deal, and some of these crazy plans who's going to loan us the money. We don't have an extra hundred trillion dollars that we can borrow from the Chinese. They're not gonna loan it to it. And if we print the money all we're going to do make our dollar bills worth nothing you'll have to wheel in a barrel of dollar bills. The by something that the grocery store because you'll need so many with the high inflation Lamar. The two largest industries in America is number one energy and all that encapsulates with oil workers, and coal miners and fracking and natural gas and trucks all that number one industry in America's energy, the number two industry is medical care. So what are the Democrats want to do? They want to eliminate all the energy jobs. They want eliminate all the medical jobs and put it under the government. Can you? Imagine what waiting rooms are look like if everything's free. If everything that doctors would collapse the best and the brightest never go to just on the medical issue. You've had some recent problems. I've had reason a already valve problems, which have been fixed the reason that I had a miraculous recovery and miraculous medical procedure down OMI called taper trans catheter valve replacement. Getting rid of open heart surgery is because profit motive that caused Medtronic's and Edwards life sciences to say because we can make money doing this. Let's come out come up with a spectacular. Platinum cobalt metal valve inside is a cow valve and implant it through the family artery. Now, if you take away the profit motive out of everything all frommer, suitable discoveries and no new drugs. Whatever come on the market the procedures for heart, and kidneys and other human ailments collapsed because no profit motive these socialists wanted destroy jobs in this country. Doctor lamelo toward what end they don't know what they're doing. They don't know how bad it is. They haven't been educated. Our schools are not teaching people there in doctoring people with socialism, Marxism and communist programs than ideas, and it's failing our country. It's gotta change. But I will say this. I think the American people, you know, I look at numbers. I look at trends. I look at the electric what they really believe. I think they're going to reject the Democratic Party dramatically in twenty twenty. They're going to nominate a socialist. That's almost guaranteed. And that socialist is going to go down to a bitter defeat. It's going to be a landslide Donald Trump. I predict that. Now, I've been predicting it for several months, and you know, what else the house is gonna flip to conservative Republicans. They got rid of forty nine anti-trump establishment Republicans in the twenty eighteen election. The electrodes going to finish the job and getting rid of the foolish socialist they put in and it's got to be conservative house a conservative more conservative Senate than now. And we're going to have President Trump reelected, we're gonna get a couple more supreme court justices that our constitutional conservative this country's on the launchpad for great things ahead. And I know these people are going to be rejected because they are so foolish even Democrats recognize it. What is your crystal ball say, it's obviously I think it's going to either be Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden, maybe mayor Pete Buddha. Judge is possible. I very much doubt. His only claim to fame is out. He's gay. That's why he stands out. I don't care if he's gay or straight. I wanna conservative, but he's a run of the mill socialist progressive liberal from south bend. But I think it's going to be Joe Biden Bernie Sanders wouldn't Bernie Sanders be much easier for Trump to the faith in Joe Biden, assuming Joe Biden is competent. Yes. Absolutely. But both will be defeated easily. And maybe a couple of lecturer votes one way or the other Joe Biden knows not going to get the nomination. Why is he not going to get? Well, tell you women are really upset with this creepy. They haven't set a lot up until now. But now with the metoo movement and everything else they're saying, this guy is creepy. I heard that his political gas are known. Quite well is age seventy eight means that a lot of younger Democrats think he's just playing to all these parties stablishment. They don't like that. They don't even like Washington insiders. They dumped Hillary Clinton. They wanted dumped him and Bernie Sanders sort of a strange character. 'cause he's not even a member of the Democratic Party. Imagine the Democrats nominating a non democrat. Right. Well, that shows you great lineup of candidates is again, find a democrat. But you know, what else Joe Biden's going to fail on? He's not socialist, the not he's just the run of the mill liberal big spender high tax or like, so many others them party. But that's not good enough because the Democrats are going to pick a socialist to run. And so that means that Bernie Sanders is likely Pete footage is very close behind. And by the way, Pete is getting the Hollywood support. They've dropped Bater Aurore they found out that he. Doesn't answer questions. They find out that he's got some bad things in his history and stuff. And so they're starting to do all their fighting each other in Hollywood about who's gonna do the fundraisers for p and that so he's he's going up fast, and he's attacking Bernie this week. And the reason is because he he realizes breeze in the lead. He wants it. He's got to try to think any got no experience. No knowledge, nothing that makes him presidential caliber. And of course, he's got all foolish silly programs. The other social have the socialists are gonna get nominated. They're gonna lose big time. And that's why I now putting a date on the end of the democratic point. Write this down. What's the date of the end of the Democratic Party and will happen in twenty twenty one right after they are totally wiped out in the twenty twenty election. And the reason is is the party has turned from the Democratic Party of all the JFK the Harry Truman the scoop Jackson people like that they have morph into a socialist communist Marxist party. And you know, what the American people going to reject them big time. And when that happens that party is gonna shut down. They're going to close the door. You know, the Whigs elected quite a few presidents, and they eat teen. They went on this. Yeah. Well parties don't have to live forever. When I look at the polling of the American people that top two or three issues..

"Boy. Have another democrat jumping into the race. Tim ryan. He was the one who challenged Nancy Pelosi. I think sad Ohio. Yeah. Tim ryan. The democrat from Ohio is launching a presidential bid. Joining an already crowded primary field to take on President Trump. How many are there? Now. It's just getting overwhelming. I can't I can't keep up with it. I mean, I think they're already at as many as the crazy field that the Republicans had right? We have Kamala Harris beta Aurora, Bernie Sanders, Clovis shar Tulsi Gabbard Kirsten gillibrand. Cory booker. Now, Tim Ryan, I'm missing oh the Hickenlooper. Mayor Pete Jimmy young young whatever his name is. Wait, there's more. Yeah. There's more Joe Biden most likely Bernie Sanders Bernie. Elizabeth warren. Oh battle I had been. So I'm at thirteen right now. Oh, I know Schultz where you're gonna throw him in there. He's not a democrat running independent. So we can't we can't. Bernie Sanders Bernie Sanders, but she in with every group, she's she's made inroads. And so I think if you have to say who's a candidate you ought to be looking at now, this sort of tortoise at this point. I think you'd say you'd say Harris, but let me caution scissor or very early. So what do you think do I think that's right? I mean what I can tell from just talking to voters as they feel. Like, it's wide open at this point. They are very much engaged with the issues with the policy pronouncements of all of these candidates you've gotten big crowds for people like that or work people like a comma, harass people who are out there running and really talking about the issues you saw with Warren last night, very heavily focused on specific policies on in some way, she setting the pace I think for a lot in terms of policy, but in terms of binding here, I think if you're biting you like these numbers, but if you're buying you also wonder if this is sort of the ceiling for him, right? He is well known he's at the twenty eight percent at this point would the day. He announced essentially Vida best his candidacy, and if you're somebody like here issue like this because you do see some momentum. But listen, it's so early at point by that announced you. We don't know, you know, as Nanjing that could be the best day of his campaign. We know we have no we have no idea. But the thing that if you look at our polling today, what matters the most to democratic voters is somebody who can beat Donald Trump. Let's they're looking at all of this. And maybe they're looking at Joe Biden saying he's got the right stuff to be to be Donald Trump. He can take Donald Trump on. That's what they want. I mean, they're looking at the issues here about the issues, but they want to win more than anything else. And the problem for the Democrats right now again, if you look at our poll, and it's early is they're not as energized as Republicans, which is just the opposite of the way it was during the midterm elections. So that's good news for Donald Trump still early still early wolf. We'll see what happens guys stick around. There's more news. We're watching including some significant safety concerns over. Sanders joins crowded field of 2020 contenders
"Also talked about the latest candidate to jump into the crowded field for the democratic party's presidential nomination. Bernie sanders. Bernie the president says Sanders was taken advantage of after reading a great race in two thousand sixteen. He was not treated with respect by Clinton. You says he wishes Sanders. Well, but I think he missed his time and figures the other Democrats in the race are wasting their time. You got a lot of people running. But only one person's going to win. I hope you know, who that person is good

"I think we might work the deal. And if we don't I may go that route I have the absolute right to do national emergency. If I want what's your at. My threshold will be of I can't make a deal with people that are unreasonable. Okay. Well, that is not great as a conservative. This is not great. You do not want the president of the United States saying I have the absolute right to overrun the constitutional duties office. The other side, what makes Barack Obama's to do this all the time? Nobody to say that he would just issue executive orders. If he couldn't get done what he wanted to get done with a Republican congress. He wants it. This is no different from Obama. Obama would sit there, and you would say Republicans. By won't deal with Mike, and I'm reasonable fellow. So if they won't make a deal, I'll just do what I've got I've got a phone sometimes the right with the phone sometimes I talk on the pen, but I can make a deal. This is what Obama used to do. And it's not good, right? The entire constitutional order is set up to do nothing. It's one of the problems when you actually wants to do something. But the fact of the matter is the checks and balances of the American government are way of ensuring requires an overwhelming majority of support in order for anything to get the big problem for conservatives. These days. Is it after eighty years of left leaning governance? It's difficult to roll back a lot of that left leaning governance through the normal mechanisms of the government themselves, and that's what President Trump is sort of seeing here today. Now, Trump would presumably invoked to particular statutes tenuous code twenty eight oh eight or ten US code to eighty four in order to declare a national emergency under tenuous code Twenty-eight await the president may quote in the event of a declaration of war or the declaration by the president of a national emergency in accordance with the national emergencies. Act undertake military construction projects and may authorize the secretaries of the military departments to undertake military construction projects not otherwise authorized by law that are necessary to support such use of the armed forces. As I've talked about in the last couple of days, the national emergencies act was meant to apply specifically in areas where congress could not move fast enough in emergency situation for the military. That's not this here. Congress just doesn't want the president to do something. And the president wants to do something. He doesn't just get to declare a national emergency and run roughshod. Over congress. It's going to be a pretty serious stretch to suggest that military necessity dictates that the president shift funding not allocated for a border wall from other areas of America's national defense. It also sets a really bad precedent whenever there's a Republican in office. Republicans tend to be okay with executive power whenever there's a democrat in office Democrats tend to be okay with executive power. But you need to think about it. And think about what would happen if the shoe were on the other foot imagine if Barack Obama or in the future, God forbid, Elizabeth Warren or Kamla Harris, declaring green national emergency saying, you know, what we have here is the end of the world. You're like Bernie Sanders Bernie Sanders declaring a national emergency. And Bernie Sanders says we have a green national emergency because the world is going to be overcome by climate change. Definitely shuttle the coal plants and since the military to shut down all the carbon meeting plans. I presumably would think that most conservatives would be pretty upset about that. And it's this is not the proper function of the executive branch. Is not the proper function of the executive branch to expand War Powers that were not meant for border patrol. David French also points out at national review, legally speaking that the supreme court has basically ruled on this issue before back in nineteen fifty two president Truman tried to do exactly this. With regard to steal works in the United States in the middle of the Korean war. The United Steelworkers were on strike, and this was actually hampering the war effort and president from threatened to nationalize the steel plants in order to get people back to work that was rejected by the supreme court. The supreme court declared, quote, the order cannot properly be sustained as an exercise of the president's military power as commander in chief of the armed forces. Now, the other statue, the Trump could presumably us, maybe ten US code section two eighty four that allows the secretary of defense to provide support for counter drug activities. Such report is requested by the official responsible for counter drug activities that support would be restricted to maintenance repair or upgrading of equipment. This would not be maintenance repair or upgrading of equipment. This would be building entirely new border wall. Presumably. As I say, the real problem here is a constitutional one. And the question to be asked is what from thinks he's going to get done here. Does Trump actually thanked the by declaring a national emergency? He's going to be able to build that wall. Anybody who tells you that's what's actually going through the heads of the White House is lying to you? Seriously. If you're hearing other hosts say that Trump declaring a national emergency will end with the building of the wall that is simply untrue. All that will do is thrust responsibility onto the judiciary as opposed to the congressional Democrats for not having a border wall. Because here's the way this mathworks right now, President Trump is saying that congressional Democrats are obstructing him that congressional Democrats are standing between the United States and border security, and he's right about that. It's pretty obviously right about that. Where he did declare a national emergency and then activate the military, and where he then to sign a Bill that would end the government shutdown presumably a court, a left leaning court would step in or maybe not just a normal constitutional court would step in and saying the president does not actually have the authority to this. Stop the president from doing the stuff on the border. And then the president would fulminate on Twitter about how terrible terrible terrible. These courts are and the wall still wouldn't be built and the government would still be funded. That's why it's I if you're cynical about politics. This is the way that all of this is likely to go. The president gets a win with his base by saying he stood tall against the Democrats. So tall that he declared a national emergency hill then goal and and yell at the courts. Most Republicans not real fond of the federal judiciary for the reason. Democrats will go home to their constituents and say, we didn't budge and the constitution withstood the assaults by President Trump. And the judiciary will stand up and say well look at us. We were the ones who stood in the breach where President Trump was attempting to go. So everybody gets to go home with a political win. There's only one problem. So all this does raise serious question about how Republicans govern a real question. President Trump could have done this two years ago. President took office in January of twenty seventeen yet two full years to work with a Republican House Republican Senate in order to get this done. We went two years without any border wall funding. We also went two years without defunding Planned Parenthood. These were two key funding promises made by Republicans in these campaigns. None of that came to fruition all of which suggests that a lot of this is cynical and manipulative and attempts to garner votes in those pandering possible way. Now, a couple of things can be true Republican could be making promises that are good and could be incompetent and foolish and how they go about achieving those promises. It can be cynical about playing off those promises is obstructed by others when they should have done this themselves with that said, the president would not actually be building a wall where heated declare a national emergency. It would be a mistake for him to move in this direction. And if he wants to keep pressure on congressional Democrats. He's just pressure on congressional Democrats force every congress person. So explain why he or she wants to build a new bridge in their district of federal dollars named after them, but is unwilling to put a few steel slaps in the middle of the desert in order to stop people from crossing without others noticing all of that. We'll just a second. I wanna talk more about what the president ought to do here. And we'll talk about the left's utter inability to deal with the president waging war on political war on the border issue. I but first we need to talk about your homeland security and privacy. I know a lot of folks are worried these days about being hats are spied on by companies or by individuals as a public figure, I'm constantly worried about that. I mean, that's really really wonderful stuff. And I hope that the come out to vote. I hope they come out to vote to continue in this economic expansion that we have the continue the policies of President Trump. So we continue to build this economy. You know, we had a discussion. And this is like scary scary scary stuff with professor Ruben from Emory University. And he's just published a piece say fifty seven percent of the Democrats socialist our young people in droves droves and droves are embracing. Socialism. You don't have to go far. I mean right here in our own country candidates for congress like Alexandria, Cossio Cortez up in New York City, of course, on the presidential side Bernie Sanders, and I think rich whatever Bernie was advocating for should he run again. And he probably will. But there's going to be a number of others. Right. They're going to even be further to the left of burning in twenty sixteen. I don't know how you could become a candidate for president unless you keep one upping socialism. I mean, it's it's it's a bizarre thing. It's surreal, but that is the world that we're living in in. It's incredibly dangerous very very very dangerous for us for our children, our grandchildren and their children. We gotta stop this thing. We gotta turn it around. We gotta get our young people embracing at Amish freedom Neil amid there's a way to do that. So everyone listening right now here, here's here's your assignment. Or I number one vote number to vote number three vote Republican. Not one democrat vote Republican. That's your chance to a least stop this forward. Momentum in gets another four years or two years on the boat to get your act together as we move forward. You know, I do find it astounding again that we've we've gone down this road. And you're right. And you'll unless you're left a Bernie Sanders Bernie know, Bernie, well, we've had we know that we talked for a long time Bernie wants to give a puppy for everybody in free Broadway tickets normal, but everyone's far the left Bernie right now. I mean Bruni was a moderate compared to going on right now. You're listening Spartacus out of New Jersey. Booker. Of course is sparks, and and you see the ridiculousness that that we're dealing with right now in terms of the schools. We don't teach the reality of capitalism vs socialism. We don't even they don't understand in in terms of schools know, how we're Republican that is which is a little scary because then the mob would rule and by the way, California, New York, and Illinois would decide completely who's going to be anything in the country. So they don't understand why the electoral college was put in as a stop that. So that's me Neil. And the first thing we have to do barn. Anything else that we're talking, but we can have this conversation on next month, which we will. But we don't vote. If everyone listening right now does not get out and vote and get their friends to vote and their friends friends devote, I've taken that real seriously. This is as important as it was to get Trump into that was dark. And we must keep the we have four more years a roadblock insane environment that feeling in right now. Not some. That promotes a McKinsey the American risky and those around the kitchen table or. In their businesses that might be and I. Courage. They're being just put themselves out there. Sanders He, someone took his. Healthcare plan his, Medicare for all. Plan which is now the standard bearer the standard plan for Democrats progressives. Running for office. And costed it out. Over the cost of ten years, thirty, two trillion, dollars. So two point six trillion dollars and I made mention of the fact, that Bernie, Sanders. Says that number that's not true this comes. From Kadish it's backed by, the coke brothers oh the coke brothers this number can't be true. At all And then I got a tweet from Kim brand cage a brand on? Twitter I listened today as you reported the thirty two trillion dollar Medicare cost Medicare, for, all cost but the coke brothers report concludes that would be. A two trillion dollar savings wouldn't that, be important info to disclose okay we want. To go down this road I'm more than happy to go down this road I we, must admit that Bernie Sanders said that the, number wasn't, legitimate so what does it matter that they put in. A two trillion dollar savings if you tell me that, Bernie Sanders doesn't believe the number. And then tell me oh by the way, you have to now respect, all the numbers that's a very. Confusing thing to do but, let's make the argument as you do vice wants to make the same argument. Vox, wanted to make. The same argument, that yes it's. A very high price tag when it's you know it's basically what we're. Paying right now. For healthcare costs if. You take a look at all, the numbers the, that's. The way they put it so let's Say it's a two trillion dollar savings here is? The question here's the question I did you read the the entirety of the report, or, summations of the report where that savings is based on reimbursements. To doctors the objective in the Bernie, Sanders plan is to make reimbursements to doctors. At the Medicare level which is a massive reduction from what they get as private physicians, if you take away I think the number, was forty, percent forty percent of what a doctor makes let me. Ask you how long are they still a doctor or, are you going to force them. Into it Let's ask. The next question we have seen the case of little Charlie guard we saw the case of baby Oliver Charlie guard died. Because socialized medicine refused to take care of him and the only reason baby Oliver is alive, is that there was enough pressure put on the NHS to be. Able to get that. Child to Boston to a children's hospital, where he was able to get the. Surgeries necessary for him. To survive let me ask you a, question is that worth two trillion dollars to you We're in our conversation that's so much greater than money guys. We're in a conversation about what. Actually allows a system to grow and thrive If. You. Want to. Go the Bernie Sanders route and say, oh we'll save two. Trillion dollars based on what. We're paying now. For healthcare okay okay that's. Today as you start paying these doctors last you have less doctors now go find a doctor you're saving money.
