"Welcome back to another episode, and if this is your first thanks so much for joining on today's episode, we're going to be talking to my good friend Sukhdev Benny Sukhdev is a spiritual guide who had experienced with near death. This is the story I learned him when we first met about a year ago and it really made sense as to why he is so wise in. So still it's infectious. On today's episode, we're going to be talking about the idea of victim mentality. We are all living through a tough time right now but regardless of the Times it's not a new idea so whether you feel like the world is against you a spouses against you or you just can't seem to get things right? Because the world is against you. This is a really conversation to listen to to kind of separate yourself from those feelings which are very real but find ways or other feelings that you can have that are more supportive and empowering. So stick around Sukhdev has some really good nuggets that I really think you'll appreciate. What an honor that you're choosing me to start this off, kick this off with you. So really excited to jump. Good. Excellent. Well is the honor is mine Thank you for joining. Today. We're talking to my very good friend Sukhdev and He's got an excellent story and he helps a lot of people. But today I WanNa talk about something specific something that really drove me to you. When we initially talked on the phone, you know I ended up on the phone with. Random guy on instagram and I'm like, what am I doing? You know but the universe conspires and and here we are connected. So when we first started talking, you told me your story. About you had a peanut allergy and then something amazing happened. And the context of this episode I really want to focus on the idea of being victim feeling like you're a victim choosing to be a victim in the inverse of that how you can use that to actually empower you separate yourself from all things victim because I feel like a lot of people are struggling especially in times like we are in, but it's it's not a new idea. So we've all fallen prey to that. So please share your story. And we'll go from there. Sounds good. So basically It's almost as if my life was split up into two different pieces before this incident. And before this moment in time where I had peanut allergy. Just, WANNA say how? I was very much. In the process transformation myself I was very much in the process of self development wanting to find success in my career's. Driven the art Soviet in the graffiti music filmmaking. And I was. I was going for I was up every morning I was training hard and was doing all the. I was grateful. But. Down inside slow didn't feel. All the way they didn't feel like I. was in the thick of my own skin. And when I when this incident happened, it was basically ahead a Veggie Burger and there was a legal some kind of cashew or peanut in inside of it. And I got into my car and basically I had three choices. One choice was to call the ambulance and WICCANS. Option to was to. Drive back home, find the ten and stabbed himself with it or option three wants to drive myself to the hospital. And so. You know being there sitting there going through this whole process. I'm just GONNA drive because was already kind of a go-getter and I wanted to get myself there. So I began driving. And as I was driving, basically, all of my lungs started to swell up and I couldn't breathe anymore. and. If it was felt was suffocating and it wasn't allowing any breath to come in. But. It was really just a reactions to the peanut and everything that was going on. And through that process, it was as if life when it's a slow motion. And so I was driving in any way like. A, movie scene type of feeling, and I could literally feel myself moving out of my body. And when I came out of my body, I remember turning my head and seeing just like this energy of death that is they're sitting next to me. In the passenger seat. And Joe like energy of yet like darkened scary or it was just there it was there there was no judgment it wasn't trying to hurt me or anything like. Death is what it is like. It's it's just you know it's Death in a way, a gatekeeper. That's kind of what my understanding of it is and is now maybe it'll change as we continue this journey but So as as I was seeing death death told me. We have two choices either you can pull over and keep going. Or no sorry. You can either pullover and let be finish and let it all end or you can keep going and don't worry about it as well. And I remember driving at that moment in thinking to myself. Wow. Like. All that stress I had all that exiled he had all that stuff that was continuously trying to work on trying to evolve and get stronger through. I could just let it all go because I was exhausted. Although pushing I had some really positive mindset going was still deep down exhausted. And from a soul level I've felt Done. Done? And But then there was something else inside of me. It was like, well, you know you got nothing to lose like just keep going. And so ended up getting to the hospital just in time. and. You know when I woke up from that incident because I had blocked out when I got there, everything was on tax. It's as if all my sensitivities came online I could feel the energy around me. I can hear things in my head. It was like I thought it had some kind of brain damage because of the lack of oxygen or something. But with that open, my eyes to was that we have so many things within us. We have so many sensors or ways of being ways of perceiving reality that are available to us is that we choose not to see it or we've also been programmed to. Function in a certain way so that we can maintain the society to work in a specific way. So this incident was like a an almost like a blessing, but also a second chance for me. And what they opened my eyes to was that it wasn't so much about overworking or achieving results through. momentus amounts of effort it was more about. The journey, how am I actually enjoying my moments? Why am I even doing the things I'm doing? And I doing it because I feel like I am inadequate and I need to prove to someone that adequate. Am I doing these things because. Like. I just WANNA be better I want to grow myself, etc. In my case, it was really about. Acknowledging how I really felt and I was using these self development tools in the self development techniques as a form of escape. From the actual thing that was hurting inside of me..

This did not explode on August 4th when 2900 tons of ammonium nitrate badly damaged the city. And the people of Lebanon known Sark. It's a very good evening to this fresh news about more ammonium nitrate has it has it made people want to leave Beirut? Are they alarmed that there will even be another explosion? Good evening. Good morning to you until now. Benny Benny said that there is no any evidence that there were either. Uh it was not my meaning by Ah lately, right? And this time they said that there was no weapon. Now they are forced Go back a big investigation. I don't know if it was going to reach something to conclude something, or you wouldn't have had a few months. What's this time? I think The energy is so big the muscle floods What's so big? They have to do something with the off the French novel, which are supported by the U. S. I don't know if they reach something. You have always been being in Beirut now on Ah, leading journalists. You've always given us very cogent assessments of tell us Now we hear the Lebanese government the economies and collapse. The government just switched. What is the status of Hezbollah? After this disaster, we know that there was a lot of public criticism. And what is the change in government mean for that relationship? When I think the made the big mistake when he decided not to be the one off. I need influence on the government and the critical situation. When he decided to me. "Going to the phones to get your reaction to the 90 minute debate last night as well. Candidates are on the road again today, President Donald Trump in Minnesota and Joe Biden, former vice president. He's on an Amtrak railroad tour starting in Cleveland. And guess what state he's going to be in. All roads lead to Pennsylvania but also Ohio. He'll be heading to Ohio as well, Yes, but let's focus on Chris Wallace. There has been criticism of Chris Wallace by some who have said he was like the the the corner man. In a heavyweight fight for Joe Biden, protecting him from suffering suffering from severe damage from the unending attacks. An intervention from Donald Trump, the president. And others who just say that? Hey, you know, he just he lost control of this debate. In fact, underwear Ah, my manga. Which one? He maybe He went tinkle. Yeah, we need that. Ah, What do you need? Just message. What can I do for you? No, It's quite all right. We had to cut here already. Do you have the Wallace cut. Okay, Let's go with that, please. Yeah, we don't let it go. Let it doing it. You're gonna have a true gentlemen. I hate to raise my voice to be white, and I'd be different than the two of you. So here is the data points. We have so good point. I'm looking at the starting the debate and jet set Juliet. In my opinion, Trump had a good start because he started with the Supreme Court. And he talked about his candidate. And even Joe Biden had to admit all you know, she seems like a very fine woman. On and then they got into the discussion about packing the cord and ending the filibuster. And that's where Joe Biden was on the ropes a bit because, he said, I'm not going to answer that now. Hey, seemed to be a bit flummoxed. The president jumped in. But then it seemed that Wallace wanted to go to the next subject, cause you know, he had, like 15 minutes for subject like six subjects. Whereas I thought it would have been incumbent upon him to say way to show him. It is a big issue here, you know, because if the Republicans persevere with their choice, it might be a 63 majority. If you just look at the ideologies of those sitting on the court. When you want to expand the court. Yeah, I agree. Buddy. I don't think that this is any sort of nefarious conspiracy that happened behind the scenes. It's just not. It's not Chris Wallace his gig. He is very, very fine. He's very fine Journalists. The problem that I saw was just that there needs to be, um, you need to behave yourselves. You need to act like adults and President Trump was talking over talking over me. Biden was pulling his nonsense to the fact is, they have to turn the mike off. There's no other way to do it. You and the problem is Chris Wallace didn't have a kill switch there. I'm fairly certain and I'm also pretty certain That that was probably pitched prior. Will you know when they were deciding how to go about this? The procedural stuff of tools? I would imagine that both campaigns said No. We don't want that. I'd like to see the back and forth. I'd like to see the documentation of that. But what Chris Wallace really should have done And I think that he was just like Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no, no. This is going off the rails. He should have literally stood up. When they were both doing there. You know that. That that that that stood up and said, Gentlemen, we are going to pause this and we will end the debate right now. If you don't start following the rules, both of you, it applies to both of you. I mean, that's it. That's that is done and and I think that's what he should have done, But I mean, it's you know, it's easy to armchair quarterback I think which Trump missed his beat was he had just scored points with the pack. The court statement that Biden wouldn't respond to And then he got all involved in arguing with Chris Wallace, right? You just called the point. You one that you want the Supreme Court, right? All right. It wasn't like he did not go by now. But the fact that he wouldn't he filibustered. Ironically, they wanted to talk about that. But he filibustered answering the question about packing the court in my mind. I'm saying Trump, Okay, you got that now they're going to move on to the next one, which is Corona virus. But the point is then he started getting into this nit picking thing with Chris Wallace, which I think distracted the president. You already basically said I'm debating two instead of one, and then it started going downhill from there. And can I tell you that is a strategy? That's a strategy that the president had prior to going in there. The second he felt like The debate was going off the rails against him. He was going to do exactly what he's done from day One, which is the media is fake news. It doesn't matter if you are respected men remember in the media, it's going to be fake news. If I wore the president's handlers, and let's face it, he doesn't often listen to LosAngeles. He listened still himself. That's what I should've had a chuckle when he said that Giuliani on Christie were preparing him for the debate. You don't have prosecutors prepare you for a debate because They have no sense of humor. You know, they want to break down the other witness. That's the whole purpose. So I'm thinking that was just window dressing. He should look at the movie. My cousin Benny. I know because he needs to lighten up a little bit, too. And remember, Cousin many leaves were Oakland comes all the way down in the South is stealing when Herman Munster there, Fred Gwynne, you know, the Southern judge was fake media 80% of the medias against me, but he convinced the jury on behalf of Hiss clients. By just sort of winning them over. And I think that's really what Trump has to do to the independent voters is he's got to approach him far differently because that didn't do anything less than that. No, I agree. Another thing, though, is that if you The concern that I have about doing another debate between these two presidential contenders is that I think we're going to see the exact same thing. I think we're going to see Trump try to steamroll Biden is going to get flustered. Trump's gonna talk over the flesh. We're just going to see the same thing. And if we have somebody in the pool the pool who was doing the you know, you've got 11 Group of people who was handling the control room. The technical directing the directing if If they start shutting microphones off. What's gonna happen is you're gonna have the Republicans screaming that this is a liberal media trying to silence Trump. It's a cover up. I mean, there are a lot of Trump's supporters who literally feel that the media When they say something. That is a fact. It's fiction because the media said it and that's my concern about the next debate. And I just don't think that I think Trump is going to spin it. They have used kill switches when it's debates on a local level on which you have multiple candidates, you know. So yeah, six candidates and there's just one candidate who just won't shut up. And they'll do a kills. I don't I don't believe that's ever been a kill switch in a presidential debate..

Why Warren Buffett is gambling on Japan’s distinctive dealmakers

"Buffett celebrated his ninetieth birthday doing what a lot of folks like to do when they wanNA treat themselves. He went shopping. Berkshire hathaway has stakes in the five leading trading companies in Japan Sumitomo. Oto Chew Mario Benny Mitsui and company and Mitsubishi Corp.. They. Import. Everything from. Energy and metals to textiles and food and. This is. Clearly a big move. In of itself. What does this investment on buffets parts? sadie. Let's start there. Well once again as always we have to remember that with Berkshire hathaway sometimes, the numbers almost feel like cheat codes because six point five billion dollars is not a huge investment for Berkshire Hathaway stake in Apple at stake. In Coca Cola are much larger than this but buffet for after years of not really looking outside of the United States has really started doing. So he's bought Israeli companies about German companies he's invested in China in Brazil and now he's investing heavily in a very interesting segment of Japan. These are extremely economically sensitive trading companies. Japanese are called Sogo Shosha. And they are they will trade in almost anything and I believe that one of the reasons that he wants to have he wants the stake in these companies is that is that because these companies are chameleons they will invest in everything they have joint ventures all over the world and so yet another way for Berkshire Hathaway to have additional boots on the ground additional is nears looking for new things that they can invest in. So really interesting timing for this it may be you know again, his suggestion I in a soft way that it's really hard to find opportunities here in the US that the Japanese market relatively inexpensive and. Like everyone else you know I'm sure a lot of everyone woke up this morning and was surprised by what Buffett has done and. By now, a lot of people are saying that makes that S-. You look at those five stocks. They're all up. You know five to ten percent. It's. A lot of times when buffet makes them move? One of the things we talk about is how buffet is to tell people like look just don't blindly follow me you shouldn't blindly follow anyone do your research and all that. But Is this something US investors should look at given what the comments you just made about the relative value of the market in. Japan. The best performing stock market in the entire world over the last decade. Stock Market Stock Index is the S. and P. Five hundred, and it's really not even close when you don't denominated in dollars. It's the number one. Japan's is actually since Ave came to power it, it has outperformed every other major stock exchange with the exception of China and the US S. and P. Five hundred it is a we tend to think of it as being more bond. I think American. Investors still have a dramatically too low exposure to two markets that are outside of the US. And Yeah there are I think that in the US almost every opportunity has at least in some ways been monetize whereas in a lot of other countries that is not the case at. Japan. Definitely one of those countries.

He says Major League Baseball has already seen two large outbreaks, but the recent cases they did manage to get under control, so it's a little hard to know what Caused two teams have really bad outbreaks in two teams to be able to contain them. But well, we'll have to see the A's air. Now the 11th MLB team with a covert related postponement. What they need to do now is if they want to be cautious. They probably need to postpone the games for the A's for the next few days, maybe 45 days, which is what we saw. With New York Mets and with the Cincinnati Reds. Jennifer

Achilles and Patroclus in Modern Media

"A couple of episodes are discussed the mythological figures Achilles and Patrick lists and the depiction in ancient texts most notably in his Iliad I don't want to recap episode to thoroughly. So if that sounds interesting to you, I suggest you just go listen to that episode, but I will say a few things necessary background Achilles some. Patrick lists here is off the Trojan War, our break episode which depicted in the Iliad although there is genuinely some ambiguity as to the exact nature of their relationship in the Iliad their relationship is very intense and very important to the plot character arcs and emotional hot of that poll. What is not ambiguous is how their relationship is on the stood in the later Greek texts we discussed. So we discussed east glosses. Play the domes which survives only in fragments famous speech impetus symposium, Ace, Kaz courtroom speech against to Marcus all of which depict achilleas and Patrick lows in a sexual and romantic relationship. As we discussed earlier episode, those works stand relationship in a way that is anachronistic to the Iliad, but we nevertheless thought it was important to note that is reading is a very old an integral part of the evolution of the myth. That you can't really get away from if you're talking about them today speaking of the evolution of this myth, we also spent a bit of time talking about how although people generally appeal to Hermosa when discussing whether Achilles in Patrick Louis Wet. Really love this. Is True one canonical version of the myths in which they feature, and we would be doing them a disservice to understand as early as the real story and every following version as accurate or inaccurate by how it compares to that. I bring this up because it's very easy to find audibles and people talking about how modern adaptations on any good because then not accurate and these articles that generally quiet nitpicky and lazy, and I wanted to know this specifically. So we don't do that sort of thing ourselves. It's inevitable and desirable when adapting these myths into new mediums and feel like very different cultures than the original. That heard this man to make changes just it's necessary to on Seoul's materials while doing. So so we got a comment on differences here, but the compensation will be more like why those changes get made and do we think it works as opposed to just being like well in the Ilia? Data. So with that background out of the way, we're going to talk about Wolfgang Petersen's two thousand four, maybe Troy Madeline Milas to eleven novel the Sung Achilles and the twentieth eighteen BBC mini series story full of the city I think he ranked in the order of like worst to best in my opinion but okay, you may disagree. That was not why I decided to order them. In that way I just thought we'd chronologically but that's fine. I mean now that you said that you did it chronologically and I also view that as West best that makes me feel positive that maybe like an even better adaptation that I genuinely think is good it's coming to clear I don't love any of the music specifically. In seven years but will like no. Sorry in five years because they've come out every seven years how to for two thousand eleven two thousand eighteen. Cool. Okay. Nice. So. We'll be watching an amazing adaptation, the Trojan War with that we will love anyway. So we're going to begin with the to troy maybe the film for it was directed by Wolfgang, pay the send styles Brad Pitt Kilis who just a very two thousand thing to have. It was written by then relative newcomer David Benny off which explains why it's a bit of a dry run, the game of thrones. I that sounds up its vibe. I, was gonNA. Tell you some fun facts about this movie but I decided that they weren't that fun. I cut them all but I'm GONNA I kept one which I tell you solely because it might make you upset Australian. Fun Fact No it's not. So all of the actors in this speak in that accents with the exception of Eric Bana Rosebud, the to Australian actress who had told that they had to get rid of their accents. And I think that's disgusting screw you. Wolfgang. Petersen. I have no problem with like. Okay. You have to change accidents that doesn't sound like a fantasy will like I've whatever accent I have a problem with that and I mean like this some stuff to say about that. But if doing that because you want all your actors to have a consistent accent. Okay. But if you just hate the way Australians, tall, that's not acceptable. Garrett hedlund obvious American accent fine. But Eric Basil accent is absolutely illegal. Sorry. Thinking recompense the twenty twenty, five trae. Offers how the TROJANS are all. Star. I like it. Yeah. The film was commercially quite successful but received mixed reviews, which is frankly claimed more than it does those because it's a bad movie. I tried to watch this movie just like you know throughout my life. I've tried to watch this movie like three or four times. I've sat down in front of this film I've got like twenty minutes and I just can't do it. So. That's where I met with this. Okay Jason Do WanNA disagree and say it's a good movie. Nor I will say that like I don't think it's the worst movie like suddenly I watched this movie as a kid when it came out had no problems with a had some fun fight seines cool choreography some big actors doing fun things than having fun. I didn't really mind it and obviously now watching it I think it has some quite severe problems both as a movie analyzer adaptation I would certainly agree that it's the west of the three adaptations that we're GonNa talk about today. But then again, this is the point cost queers fact and it's not

How the TikTok Ban Would Affect the Influencer Economy

"Terror Lawrence walking adverse cast. Thanks for having me you are reports near time see cover influencers the influence our economy, which is what I won't talk to you about but I asked you on the show to talk about Tiktok a while ago like several days ago and I said we should do this as late as possible before we publish because something else will happen with Tiktok and Lo and behold last night according to some Friday last night Thursday night very late the trump administration issued two executive orders one banning all transactions with Tiktok in forty five days, which is September twentieth in the other we chat. Benny. All transactions we chat and we chats parent company ten, cent which owns. Stakes everything from spotify they own all of League of legends they on forty percent of fortnight on religion epic games I want to talk to you about Tiktok. But that all happened what has been the response from sort of the influence or community to that I feel like I should just ask you from the job. Yeah. Well, it's been a roller coaster for them. Maybe to a bunch of people last night because you know earlier this week, it seemed like it was going to be fine like a lot of them were told at trump said even last week that the ban could come as soon as last Saturday and when when that didn't happen. The kind of thought they were all good again, and now they're scrambling it's literally thrown huge swath of the entertainment industry into arrears I mean we saw Forbes released their list of top earning talkers, yesterday, and including people like Charlie, Milio, Addison, Ray, all of these kind of young Internet stars and they're making millions and so you know. All of that money that they're making his in jeopardy all of these big brand campaigns that American Eagle. Other brands are doing in jeopardy The music industry is obviously scrambling. So it's it's a mess. Yeah. I. Want to come back to that thing in the moment but I wanted to the reason I wanted to have you on is I think the influence, our economy, those millions of dollars that you just talked about this kind of not well understood. And you do a great job of covering it. I think I've told you like your coverage has definitely been an influence on our coverage. I think of our creators is a secret business section on the verge like that's bundle mentally what it is it's our. It's our teenage millionaire section like it's a business desk, not really like a memes desk but just to give even that even some context, your personal reporting history has twists and turns the kind of led you here. Can you give people just a sense? Of that because you started as like like a strategist, a digital strategist and you've ended up covering platforms and the money gets made on them, I see a pretty clear through line there. Yeah, I. Mean I've always been really obsessed with these platforms I, mean I graduated over a decade ago now into the recession and got on Tumbler and which I very quickly built some popular blogs on Tumbler, and that was my entry into social media world and yeah, I worked as a as strategist basically helping social media. Brands like household names like Bud light kind of navigate the social media world. This was before branch twitter was even a thing facebook just rolled out brand pages in like two thousand nine. So I was sort of helping brands build audiences online and I got really fascinated by how these deals were being done on the Internet how people were leveraging audience for themselves and yeah sort of did that and then ended. Up doing the same thing for media companies as a social media director for a while, and then I was always sort of writing on the side and then finally about almost three years ago I switched over and started reading about at fulltime. I think also the equator economy I don't think it was truly a beat until that time the way that it is now I think the real money started pouring in. Maybe Post Twenty sixteen.

The History Of Jazz in Classical Music

"Welcome to classics for Kids I'm Naomi Lewin. RHAPSODY in blue. The name that IRA Gershwin suggested to his brother. George is perfect for a piece of classical music. That uses Jazz George. Gershwin wrote a lot of classical music that uses jazz. Jazz the word blue refers to changing some of the notes of musical scale to blur the lines between major. And Minor. George Gershwin wasn't the only classical composer to put jazz his music. He wasn't even the first. French composer Darius Milhaud Love Jazz. He used different kinds of in different pieces. Neo wrote leboeuf's your Twat French. For the Hawks on the roof under the influence of a trip to Brazil then he studied American jazz and started using it to a lot of European composers were intrigued by American jazz, Maurice rebel, but composer who wouldn't let Gershwin study with him because he didn't want to corrupt, his music wrote a piano concerto. That sounded a lot like Gershwin. Russian composers got into the to when the Soviet Union held an official competition to raise the level of jazz in the country. Dmitri Shostakovich wrote his first jazz. After they organized an official. Soviet state jazz orchestra. Shostakovich wrote another jazz suite Russian composer eager. Stravinsky love jazz to his Ebony. Concerto is for clarinet and jazz band. Stravinsky wrote it for Woody Herman and his thundering herd. The clarinet soloist on that recording is Benny. Goodman and American musician, who back and forth between popular and classical music, just like George Gershwin another American. Who did that was Leonard Bernstein. This is from his ballet fancy free. In addition to classical composers who put jazz into their music, there are jazz composers who wrote for the Symphony Orchestra one of the greatest jazz musicians ever was Edward Kennedy Ellington better known as Duke.

Eric Ward on Racial Justice

"As. Our nation continues to grapple with the best ways to make progress on critical issues of racial justice. We here at people of the pod felt that we needed to hear from Eric. Award Eric is the Executive Director of the Western states center a civil. Rights Organization based in the Pacific Northwest Mountain states he is also a national voice, racial justice and a leader in the black community speaking up urgently. Urgently for the need to fight antisemitism, which he identifies as a leading driver of other forms of Bigotry Eric thank you so much for joining us I'm so glad to be here with you. All thanks for inviting me now as someone on the front lines of the Civil Rights Movement today, the first thing I want to ask is how are you? How are you doing this really busy, really crazy time. I think like everyone else I'm exhausted. I'm carrying a lot of weight. A lot of responsibility I'm not alone in that we are moving fast soaks at the community level has really mobilized around civil rights, and you know it's a responsibility to support that leadership as much as possible I think I'm both nervous and. We are watching kind of in a way, the end of one age a period of time, and the beginning of another, and we're kind of in this inbetween points, and so it feels a little chaotic can. We don't know what's next I. Don't know about the rest of folks, but that brings anxiety to me, but also joy Reid I watch folks every day across communities across religions, really coming together, trying to find one another struggling with one another and I think that bodes well so mile this chapter. The book is not ending particularly well. I think it tells us the story fact will. Yeah. We're clearly in something of a moment. Right? Historically politically. We're in a moment and I guess the question for someone like you and for anyone who wants to kind of be a part of making this elastic changes. How can we take a moment and turn it into something that really changes our society, so you know at the macro level I like wow, you know we are actually finally poised to acknowledge that everyone in our society are fully actualize human beings. That may not seem like a really kind of radical thing, but it's taken a lot of centuries for us to get to this point and I'm actually really excited to be here, right? Having a strong democracy. Means having strong participation, that participation doesn't happen if we only consider part of our society as fully human so at the macro level. I feel like. Wow you know. We are getting close to getting this right. And after ten thousand years you know or forty thousand years I think we finally earned the right to that right, so I want to own that and I. Hope folks own map for a second, and if it makes you feel good, good I so now here's what we should do. Its APP, we should get serious about some very specific things so. Twentieth Century. Policing has come to an end. It is a system that no longer works for the inclusive democracy that we are, and it is time for a twenty first century version of it that is grounded in community, safety, right, and the prosperity of our community them I think that that is exciting and I think we should be encouraging those conversations. We should be continuing to encourage folks to be dialogue with one another I. An I'll just be playing, right? We can't be a society that seals. It is okay to shoot and kill unarmed. Black people in our society are quite frankly folks were unarmed and running away. It is just not becoming a democracy so i. you know I think policing as. As a policy conversation is a topic of the day it will be the topic of the year will be the topic of next year, and we should not allow the sacrifices of those at the community level been working on these issues over the last three weeks or the last three decades to go to waste right now. So that's one. The second is look. We have to get a hold of the mission oriented hate crimes, and what I mean by mission oriented I. Don't mean the average hate crime. We experienced. You know that the random hate crime those have to be tackled, too, but untuckit about this rise of mission oriented targeting of vulnerable communities and their institutions whether we're talking about Anti Semitism. Racism. Talking about the targeted Latinos in El Paso or the targeting of Jews in Pittsburgh at a targeting a blacks in Charleston seeks in Wisconsin. It is time for our government institutions just step up and protect its citizens and its residents and A. We don't need new laws to do that. We need to actually start using the laws that are on the books. We have to bring transparency to those who seek to try to destroy democracy by terrorizing folks in our community. Those are the two things we could be right on top of right now.

Will the Economic Recovery Slow With New Coronavirus Cases?

"The latest economic data shows the US on target for a gradual recovery, but a spike in corona virus cases in several states is now making that pace more uncertain. The lack of clear direction led to a choppy day on wall. Street, but all three major indexes ended the day up more than one percent joining me now to talk more about the economic picture. Picture is Wall Street? Journal reporter, Harriet Tori High Harriet high so Harriet. Let's start with weekly jobless claims still very high, but they've been holding pretty steady on the other hand arise rise in Corona. Virus cases could now threaten that as the economy is beginning to reopen. What is your sense of what's happening here? Yes, we saw another week of these claims. Claims at about one point five million. This is you know slightly below last week, but more or less unchanged. It's still phenomenally high though when you think that before the coronavirus pandemic started kms kind of the two hundred thousand poet so now you know they've just exploded compared to that, and although they're not as bad as they were at the beginning of the. The public, there's still a lot of people who are losing their jobs every week and implying for unemployment. So this is just another reminder that the recovery could take them all on. It comes on a day was saying this very worrying increase in coronavirus infections and sentenced states, and just is a fresh reminder that things are not getting back to normal fast. What are we seeing among the states where infections are picking up? There's a fear now that restrictions may be imposed or reimposed in some cases, and as you say, that could further slow the economic recovery. Yes, so we've seen a few things happened in the past couple of days for one there are now quarantines in some states in the northeast, or if you want to travel from from states like in the southwest, and go their vacation, or whatever you have to quarantine two weeks, and that is that was kind of a big. A blow to these reopening efforts, and we've also seen some other things going on in Texas differences, some elective surgeries have been canceled and things like that. These are all just signs of. Hunkering down the hospitals you know reading to focus on on the more and more people come into the ICU because the very very sick with coronavirus infections, and this is just a sign that you know that people are still suffering from this. So this is spreading around and that re-opening efforts might have to to cool off a little because you know. People need to stay home to stay safe in many places. We talk a lot about small businesses and their worries about being able to reopen, and how long they may be able to stay closed at the same time. We're also seeing big companies like macy's which just announced his laying off thirty nine hundred workers, so even larger companies aren't immune to this. Yeah, and for macy's. This is actually the second round of layoffs. They had a layoff of two thousand in February. So this is of the of the retail story that was saying I. Mean we did see retail sales. Increase Law may bounce back off the very severe drops in March and April, so they seem to be improving kind of on this across the board level, but. But one thing that is going on that a lot of analysts talk about. Is that the retail sector? So one thing the pandemic has done is it's really sped up this shift this pivot to online so businesses that have very significant online presences. You know they might be physical brick and mortar stores like say for Instance Walmart, we think of Walmart is like a supermarket and. And in town, but they've made a big effort to pivot to online, and then, of course you have companies like Amazon, and so on so some companies are weathering this pandemic well because they they were kind of faster than others to shift to this to online, and they're able to serve customers very quickly and demand in online fashion because you know with the current ivars pandemic. Pandemic, a lot of people are too scared to go out to the store, or they don't want to be in shopping malls, and so on because of the risk of infection, other companies have really really struggled with that, and that's I. Think we're seeing that reflected in the in the employment situation, you know we have some retailers that cutting jobs and other retailers that hiring. And, what about the consumer spending picture I mean we know this makes up a huge portion of the economy, and if we're talking about reimposing restrictions or further lockdowns. That's going to suffer. We'll see consumer spending data for May Friday morning and consumes Benny's expected to increase a lot eight point seven percent, but this would. This is coming on the back of a thirteen point. Six percent decline the prior month, so it Stephanie Climbing out of a big hole, and it's not back to to where it was pre pandemic. The one thing that is really helping consumer. Consumer, spending the moment is the supplemental on insurance benefits and unemployment insurance benefit, so this is six hundred dollars a week that people are getting alongside regular unemployment benefits. That is hugely beneficial. Some you know some people have actually seen the personal income increase based on this benefits, but they not expected to last beyond July, and that that will be a real crunch point you know whether consumers, particularly the low income spectrum are going to be able to carry on spending. Is They have if unemployment benefits a cuts and the labor market pitcher does not improve. Harriet something you've mentioned even with the consumer spending data. Coming out tomorrow is that all the data were talking about now? We are seeing of course on a lag, and it's not even giving us necessarily the picture of what we've been seeing. Unfold over the past couple of days or a week right? Yes, so this is this is kind of an issue with some of the gunman data we it does come with a quite long lag so today for instance we saw GDP data the final GDP data, but that was for the first quarter which ended in. In March, which was now you know seems like a very long time ago, and we also know now that the economy officially entered a recession in February, so we won't get data for the second quarter for about another month we can look at private data real time data that comes from companies, but it's not quite the same as government data that is very thirty sort of tested and so

"But every single day that baseball's away it just goes further and further away from people's minds it is just so disappointing forty eight game season seventy six game season I see this proposal ESPN dot com which need to know about the weekly baseball seventy six games twenty twenty season whatever they come up with will not be like the baseball season that you and I know it's not going to be the husky two game season that we know the grind of the season the ebb and flow looking at the schedule being able to pick out games you want to go to Eric and I looking at the businessman's special on out on Thursday to see the white Sox four one oh five start we're going on the weekends when we get an opportunity to go it is not the same it it it it just is amazing that what however it comes about it won't feel the same because we won't call you guaranteed rate or Miller Park or Wrigley Field to see the games will be able to go there it'll be in Arizona will be some other place will be a Florida someplace like that if they want you to feel the same but even with the kind of baseball that they're trying to propose that they're trying to put out there both sides took a complete agreement some thoughts from Jesse Rogers early on while in solving the offer for major league baseball Tony Clark and rob Manfred should be they also be fired after this it's just starting it really is it's just amazing I mean in in in a different world both sides what at the end of this year you do have people losing their jobs at the top I mean if we could do it you have a new commissioner and you have a new our executive officer at the at the union right at the top Tony Clark and rob Manfred I mean there's there's enough blame to go around but you know we'll see what that what the FRD is after the fact you guys sent there not any work if they're not any closer than they were a week ago this latest offers its its like throwing him a bone there's a few things there but it's less money up front a little bit more money if the playoffs are played so okay and the the no draft pick compensation it's a little bit a little bit of indicted to this coming off season that's a little scary but in general it doesn't move the Polly I asked us somebody that in the know what the union you know what does this even get as close to a first down he said not even close I'm just talk about a first down or touchdown he's in agreement not even close to a first down so you know it they're just they're talking around the edges guys now again that doesn't mean there won't be baseball as we know he can unilaterally decide this thing but but as I talk to someone else about it if that happens if you set your plane fifty you know too bad no more talk you played fifty Q. the Benny hill music is that the response I got is I don't know how the players are gonna react to that wow I mean that's wrong commenter from Jesse talk about just trying to place everybody because you know it's it's so disheartening baseball itself has been behind the times I've talked about that so many times in the show where they need to be able to be more modern they need to be able to create the opportunity for to bring more people into the tent baseball's not just for baby boomers and Gen x.'ers you need to be able to grow the sport and when it's out of the view of the average fan in which we have so many things to do now as far as technology now being with family going out all these things baseball trying to figure out the forty eight or seventy six games is just

Seven-year-old Antolin five year old Margaret and three year old. Jean had their heads crushed in as well. One of them had a partially amputated arm at the shoulder. Possibly from self-defense. Near his body in the office police found a false beard and a WIG which investigators believed Beni Evangelist war while giving his readings to add to the macab seen strewn across the floor. Police found several pictures of a child laying in a coffin which they later learned. Were of Benny Son. Who had died several years before but no one knew what this meant. Aside from some bloody footprints and a single fingerprint found on a DOORKNOB. No other meaningful clues were found. Hundreds of spectators gathered in front of the Evangelist House to watch the bodies be carried out for transport to the more and the press had a field day on July fourth. The Detroit free press wrote of the items found in the murdered cultists. Home several pieces of women's undergarments each tag with the name of its owner police point out reveal that the so called mystic indulged in practices of Voodoo ISM or devil worship such garments voodoo wisdom. Has it can lead to the finding of a missing person when they are properly handled by one versed in the mystic arts of that belief in so far as is known nothing of any value such as money jewelry or papers was disturbed although evangelist had the reputation of being a considerably well to do real estate operator among the Italian colony on the east side. The police interviewed benefits physician. Dr L. E. Thomas who also lived on Saint Aubin Street. Dr Thomas told them but he considered Benny List be completely insane and that Benny and Santana could not have been married for long. Because the three older children were hers from a previous marriage. The doctor said the Benny had talked of plans. To make a motion picture describing. The history of the world has laid out in his self published. Bible neighbors described Benny as a confirmed religious fanatic. Who was seen on more than one occasion outside of his home in the street? Waving his arms and shouting incantations at the scar some believed he was crazy others that he was a con man. Perhaps Benny Evangelist was murdered. By someone seeking revenge someone who believed that he ripped them off whether through the sale of a potion or through a real estate dispute. Benny's lawyer Anthony. Spat told detectives that while evangelist had been involved in multiple lawsuits over real estate transactions. None of them rose to a level of grievance that could have caused the massacre of his entire family. Benny Evangelists had no criminal. History just one misdemeanor charge for improperly installed plumbing in one of his properties even his side business of selling potions and invocations was considered legal by city officials. So long as he quote didn't use drugs or prescribe medication when detectives attempted to talk to some of these customers. His followers became hard to find. Most of the community were recent immigrants. Who wanted nothing to do with the police? Investigators knew that Benny Evangelist had received hundreds of people for readings but few were even willing to admit that they knew him on July sixth over three thousand people showed up to the evangelist family funeral while a crowd of about three thousand curious persons packed the streets. Here today funeral services were held for Benny Evangelista self styled prophet and his wife and four children slain Wednesday by an axe murderer the slayer indirectly added another victim today in the person of Mrs Florence Morris. Thirty six mother of five children who brooding over the newspaper accounts of the crime and fearing for the safety of her own children threw herself from a window of the twenty fifth floor of the Barlow Tar the Reading Eagle wrote Patrolman and detectives mingled with the Throng at the funeral and made one arrest of a man who acting clearly excited suspicion. He was taken into custody for questioning but police admitted that it was doubtful if he could have committed. The axe murderers himself still believing the secret of the crime lies in the strange religion secret rites Evangelista and his followers espoused police. Today were seeking members of the cult. None could be found who would admit membership. One of the few leads that the police found were several notes that Benny had kept in his home in which he was being threatened by the black hand a mostly defunct mafia organization that preyed on wealthy Italian men. The most recent recent letter was only six months old and read quote. This is your last chance but the black hand serey that nowhere as nineteen twenty nine. The black hand was outdated. Benny like police would probably not have taken the threat seriously correctly assuming that it was an amateur trying to scare him. The only credible suspects that the police could find. We're forty two year old Umberto Tokyo and his friend Angelo Poly Tech. Yo had gone to the evangelist home the night before the bodies were found. He was there to make the final payment on a house that he had purchased from Benny his friend. Angelo had accompanied him when a police search of their rooms found a keen edged banana knife and a pair of work. Boots that had been washed suspiciously clean. They brought the two men in for questioning. Both men denied any involvement with the murder and claimed that after dropping off the final payment. They had gone out for drink but tech. Teco was already known to the police. He had already escaped prosecution after stabbing. His brother-in-law barred to death. In April Tokyo. Claimed the self defense and since his brother in law had later died at the hospital there was no one to contradict his version of events with no physical evidence to connect them to the murder. Police were once again forced to tech. Yo Go over the next several months. The investigation grew cold as police failed to find any real clues. Hundreds of people were questioned. Several arrests were made usually people living in the area who were known to have a history of mental illness. But they were all the venture. -Ly released police even offered a one thousand dollar reward for information leading to an arrest but still there were. No new. Leads was re arrested for the murder in March of nineteen thirty two based on new evidence and then freed a second time when they verified that his fingerprint did not match the one lifted from the murder scene tech you died in November of nineteen thirty four. His wife who divorced him after he killed her brother told police that Benny Evangelist had two machetes hanging over his alter one which was not found and was believed to be the murder weapon then. A newspaper boy came forward and said that while he was delivering papers that morning he had seen Tokyo on the porch of the evangelist home at around five. Am after the murders neighbors who lived in the same boarding home as techy. Oh at the time said that they were not sure if he had left again later. That night allegedly none of these new witnesses had dared to come forward while. Take you still alive. The police again attempted to pin the murder posthumously on Tokyo in August of nineteen thirty five but win the fingerprint taken at the crime scene was sent to another police department. For comparison against Tokyo's police were disappointed when the results confirmed that it was not a match and the case.

"I write. Fish sticks ready like I'm not kidding, you sticks. But to get back to the headline. Basically Peter says yes, and then barb says yeah, we're going to be empty. Nesters I love. That means that the brothers also going to move out, but Peter says that he's either going to hit up NYC or la in the next. For about a year. Year he says Oh, well, don't we think that he'll be la? I imagine Peter goes to L. A. Make Sense. It's close to his hometown. You're thirty minutes away. I mean I'm not saying. Of course it's moving out of your parents house. Heck, yeah, it's moving out of your parents, House. L. is a big city. I know this from my experience out their own. La Still Overwhelms me so like for me to travel from one side of the city to another feels like a completely different world, so I say anybody that even moves from like. Santa Monica to Burbank grew up in Santa Monica Burbank like that is a move. Get your wings. I really think so. Because I think living in la the fact that he lives in Westlake. Village makes you feel like he does live in La but I guess that's because I'm not a native. Yeah. That's just my thought good for Peter. This is the right move and let's. We'll with his journey. I have a feeling Peter will not be moving back. Anytime soon we should also make no that the Webber family says that they have been closer than ever in quarantine. And, lastly, how could we have a bachelor? Hot topics segment without talking about Hannah Brown and Tyler Cameron all their tick. Tock videos all the INSTAGRAM's. They still together in Florida right now. Doing now I mean as of yesterday. It seemed like it. And he's just so I know a little context here they've yet to. Communicate that they're dating or hooking and out at all, right? This is like a friendly. Hang Out, supposedly, supposedly a friendly. Hang Out, but there's like. No addressing the topic of whether they're dating or not hooking up I mean, are you? Are We being serious? We think that they're quarantine together with six people in a household and they're not hooking up. I would be shocked. I mean if their friends. They're friends. I don't know the context I. Don't think they've even like when they've been asked a question of Hey, are they? Did or not I don't think they're not so like. If I was if I had an ex come back and stay with me in my house for a week and the idea when somebody asked me yes, dating and I would say we're not not needing that hints to pay their hanging out there trying to get to know each other. Here's the parts of me. That's crazy. They've been very about this very quickly and I. AM shocked at how public they've been and how they are with being this public. For me most of the time we see two people start dating hanging out. They try to keep it a little private, but I mean. This is going on Instagram I mean I feel like the world's following along day been doing skits together. They've been working out together if they aren't dating. Will they've thrown us all for a loop? while. Jerry brought topic yesterday when people are asking this, asking us about this on our instagram live. There were like are they dating? And then jared is like you can be hooking up without dating, but I'm like. How old are you? What are you saying I was like I mean. If you're quarantine together and you're hooking up your dating. Yeah I don't. I don't know the fine line between need. I've always been confused with the dating things like I remember last year. At this time he taught me. What shipping means like I'm always? Way behind times when it comes to what's dating, mean what's hanging out. Mean what's I I just don't get that stuff. All I know is this. If you're publicly like. If. You're publicizing fact that you're out with somebody that you're into romantically at any level in my mind, my associate that with Dedi right now does that mean you have to be exclusive? No, there's there's that whole. Right now. Exclusive right now I have a feeling that they're having a blast. You know again few weeks ago. We talked about this and all this comes in wake of Tyler. Cameron and his brother in the family losing their mom. It is there's two sides of this one. It's really great to see them. Be Able to laugh and celebrate in joy filled. The second is this does feel like a at least drastic switch? Mentally you know for him now to be Zing, Hannah, but here's the cool part that Iran. Is trying to look into. This is how quick you know why. She came back into his life. Actually came back in during the process of losing his mom to support Tyler which would make sense on why she's around for this quarantine, because I have a feeling. They got a lot closer during that. Maybe. This is a really good partnership of mutual support in that through this time hand has been rocked to bring joy to tyler's life, and if that's the case, is that not what you want in a romantic relationship, so hey, from almost from his podcast Ashton I just want to say Tyler enhanced. Keep US updated not too much because my instagram feet is when I look at the search page videos the two of you. -gratulations on at least finding something our Oh, and to sit go back to Chris Harrison said earlier I mean if they have any doubt on whether or not, this is going to be a long haul thing. is going. Be a fling well they will. They will know at the end of this core Jin. Hundred percent you will know. And worse comes to worse. They had a really good time. I mean we already any other topics actually note that's Ed but right now we have to take a break before getting your other birthday. Guests on the line..

"Remember what the meal that I remember sitting down thinking. Oh Wow thank you thank you God. This is just beautiful. What's next for Richard? What's the next big stage that he wants to mark Benning? I think he would actually like to play the Rabat's I think that's not gonNA happen. McCurry so I think the footy seasons just start that Paul actually becomes a fully with because the Games are looking to credit God lover. She loves her man. She's now a member number the bunnies as well. They've got both take Danny absolutely and so they go to games all the time so they live in a way week to week but they plan month unease ahead so Richard next year turns thirty. So we're after New York. That's his next big adventure. We've got a little bit of of audio who've you speaking to Richard should about that trip to New York so let's have a listen to Richard doesn't into thirty among say he means in New York and she's GonNa be in business class and we might do tools and streams josh food food to our city. And we'll see looking forward to spend time Richard to you about the trip to New York so sex in the city to I am I had to suffer all these terrible as said wrestling things. He he make me make me sit down and watch the most appalling television. I did so I used to make him sit much. Six in the city with macy's knows a lot about women. We went to London a couple of years ago. And we did the whole Harry Potter thing. And we've been to Greece than did the Mama Mia. He loves all that stuff so he's really excited about that. I think in actually I shouldn't say this too but hopefully they'll get married Monday. Let's also on the horizon for them. They spoken to you about wanting to have children. Have you had that conversation. And with him yeah. It was a big conversation that we had to have because Richard really values family. And he really. I think wanted to have family of his On but you know the way life is them. That's not a possibility and they both understand. That said they're both very fortunate that they have to God the children that they love the actually has her little. Godson and Richard has his Godson Charlie. And that's where they put a lot of their joy and love. I think they're quite happy with effect that you know they have chosen not to go down the road We've had lots of talks about it. And the you know the sadness and the loss of not being able to do that. But they're pretty pragmatic people as well and I know they have a very good life and that they also get joy from their extended ended family in these beautiful. God's children if you could go back in time Benny to that cluster of worried nurses and doctors around your bedside when you held baby Richard in your arms. What do you think you'd say to them? Yeah I'd say well. Didn't we approval of you wrong and I think interestingly interesting enough that pediatrician autograph from the moment we went into her room. She dressed Richard all the time. And that you know we were lucky. We had lots of good medical people. People really good sir show people around her didn't pt us. That you know expected good things and I think you know professionals need to lift their game. It's not terrible. It's a blessing. You have all babies are a blessing and I think. Take away the stigma from what is and say what can be and Richard Shit. My God. What a great life this next three weekends? I can't see him because you've got social activities on and I'm sitting at reading a book. He's out having the time accommodative live. Isn't that great and I think it's just because people have given him as opportunities you know primary school that accepted him with open arms and the community community. That worked around that. It doesn't take much there so I think. Yeah that's I see this boy this man and I'm so incredibly proud of what he has achieved leave because he knows he's he can have a great life as most people with a disability. Can congratulations on your son. So thank you so much for sharing your story stories use so much been such a pleasure. Thank you Benny. Ages was my own conversations today.
