Eric Ward on Racial Justice
"As. Our nation continues to grapple with the best ways to make progress on critical issues of racial justice. We here at people of the pod felt that we needed to hear from Eric. Award Eric is the Executive Director of the Western states center a civil. Rights Organization based in the Pacific Northwest Mountain states he is also a national voice, racial justice and a leader in the black community speaking up urgently. Urgently for the need to fight antisemitism, which he identifies as a leading driver of other forms of Bigotry Eric thank you so much for joining us I'm so glad to be here with you. All thanks for inviting me now as someone on the front lines of the Civil Rights Movement today, the first thing I want to ask is how are you? How are you doing this really busy, really crazy time. I think like everyone else I'm exhausted. I'm carrying a lot of weight. A lot of responsibility I'm not alone in that we are moving fast soaks at the community level has really mobilized around civil rights, and you know it's a responsibility to support that leadership as much as possible I think I'm both nervous and. We are watching kind of in a way, the end of one age a period of time, and the beginning of another, and we're kind of in this inbetween points, and so it feels a little chaotic can. We don't know what's next I. Don't know about the rest of folks, but that brings anxiety to me, but also joy Reid I watch folks every day across communities across religions, really coming together, trying to find one another struggling with one another and I think that bodes well so mile this chapter. The book is not ending particularly well. I think it tells us the story fact will. Yeah. We're clearly in something of a moment. Right? Historically politically. We're in a moment and I guess the question for someone like you and for anyone who wants to kind of be a part of making this elastic changes. How can we take a moment and turn it into something that really changes our society, so you know at the macro level I like wow, you know we are actually finally poised to acknowledge that everyone in our society are fully actualize human beings. That may not seem like a really kind of radical thing, but it's taken a lot of centuries for us to get to this point and I'm actually really excited to be here, right? Having a strong democracy. Means having strong participation, that participation doesn't happen if we only consider part of our society as fully human so at the macro level. I feel like. Wow you know. We are getting close to getting this right. And after ten thousand years you know or forty thousand years I think we finally earned the right to that right, so I want to own that and I. Hope folks own map for a second, and if it makes you feel good, good I so now here's what we should do. Its APP, we should get serious about some very specific things so. Twentieth Century. Policing has come to an end. It is a system that no longer works for the inclusive democracy that we are, and it is time for a twenty first century version of it that is grounded in community, safety, right, and the prosperity of our community them I think that that is exciting and I think we should be encouraging those conversations. We should be continuing to encourage folks to be dialogue with one another I. An I'll just be playing, right? We can't be a society that seals. It is okay to shoot and kill unarmed. Black people in our society are quite frankly folks were unarmed and running away. It is just not becoming a democracy so i. you know I think policing as. As a policy conversation is a topic of the day it will be the topic of the year will be the topic of next year, and we should not allow the sacrifices of those at the community level been working on these issues over the last three weeks or the last three decades to go to waste right now. So that's one. The second is look. We have to get a hold of the mission oriented hate crimes, and what I mean by mission oriented I. Don't mean the average hate crime. We experienced. You know that the random hate crime those have to be tackled, too, but untuckit about this rise of mission oriented targeting of vulnerable communities and their institutions whether we're talking about Anti Semitism. Racism. Talking about the targeted Latinos in El Paso or the targeting of Jews in Pittsburgh at a targeting a blacks in Charleston seeks in Wisconsin. It is time for our government institutions just step up and protect its citizens and its residents and A. We don't need new laws to do that. We need to actually start using the laws that are on the books. We have to bring transparency to those who seek to try to destroy democracy by terrorizing folks in our community. Those are the two things we could be right on top of right now.

Will the Economic Recovery Slow With New Coronavirus Cases?
"The latest economic data shows the US on target for a gradual recovery, but a spike in corona virus cases in several states is now making that pace more uncertain. The lack of clear direction led to a choppy day on wall. Street, but all three major indexes ended the day up more than one percent joining me now to talk more about the economic picture. Picture is Wall Street? Journal reporter, Harriet Tori High Harriet high so Harriet. Let's start with weekly jobless claims still very high, but they've been holding pretty steady on the other hand arise rise in Corona. Virus cases could now threaten that as the economy is beginning to reopen. What is your sense of what's happening here? Yes, we saw another week of these claims. Claims at about one point five million. This is you know slightly below last week, but more or less unchanged. It's still phenomenally high though when you think that before the coronavirus pandemic started kms kind of the two hundred thousand poet so now you know they've just exploded compared to that, and although they're not as bad as they were at the beginning of the. The public, there's still a lot of people who are losing their jobs every week and implying for unemployment. So this is just another reminder that the recovery could take them all on. It comes on a day was saying this very worrying increase in coronavirus infections and sentenced states, and just is a fresh reminder that things are not getting back to normal fast. What are we seeing among the states where infections are picking up? There's a fear now that restrictions may be imposed or reimposed in some cases, and as you say, that could further slow the economic recovery. Yes, so we've seen a few things happened in the past couple of days for one there are now quarantines in some states in the northeast, or if you want to travel from from states like in the southwest, and go their vacation, or whatever you have to quarantine two weeks, and that is that was kind of a big. A blow to these reopening efforts, and we've also seen some other things going on in Texas differences, some elective surgeries have been canceled and things like that. These are all just signs of. Hunkering down the hospitals you know reading to focus on on the more and more people come into the ICU because the very very sick with coronavirus infections, and this is just a sign that you know that people are still suffering from this. So this is spreading around and that re-opening efforts might have to to cool off a little because you know. People need to stay home to stay safe in many places. We talk a lot about small businesses and their worries about being able to reopen, and how long they may be able to stay closed at the same time. We're also seeing big companies like macy's which just announced his laying off thirty nine hundred workers, so even larger companies aren't immune to this. Yeah, and for macy's. This is actually the second round of layoffs. They had a layoff of two thousand in February. So this is of the of the retail story that was saying I. Mean we did see retail sales. Increase Law may bounce back off the very severe drops in March and April, so they seem to be improving kind of on this across the board level, but. But one thing that is going on that a lot of analysts talk about. Is that the retail sector? So one thing the pandemic has done is it's really sped up this shift this pivot to online so businesses that have very significant online presences. You know they might be physical brick and mortar stores like say for Instance Walmart, we think of Walmart is like a supermarket and. And in town, but they've made a big effort to pivot to online, and then, of course you have companies like Amazon, and so on so some companies are weathering this pandemic well because they they were kind of faster than others to shift to this to online, and they're able to serve customers very quickly and demand in online fashion because you know with the current ivars pandemic. Pandemic, a lot of people are too scared to go out to the store, or they don't want to be in shopping malls, and so on because of the risk of infection, other companies have really really struggled with that, and that's I. Think we're seeing that reflected in the in the employment situation, you know we have some retailers that cutting jobs and other retailers that hiring. And, what about the consumer spending picture I mean we know this makes up a huge portion of the economy, and if we're talking about reimposing restrictions or further lockdowns. That's going to suffer. We'll see consumer spending data for May Friday morning and consumes Benny's expected to increase a lot eight point seven percent, but this would. This is coming on the back of a thirteen point. Six percent decline the prior month, so it Stephanie Climbing out of a big hole, and it's not back to to where it was pre pandemic. The one thing that is really helping consumer. Consumer, spending the moment is the supplemental on insurance benefits and unemployment insurance benefit, so this is six hundred dollars a week that people are getting alongside regular unemployment benefits. That is hugely beneficial. Some you know some people have actually seen the personal income increase based on this benefits, but they not expected to last beyond July, and that that will be a real crunch point you know whether consumers, particularly the low income spectrum are going to be able to carry on spending. Is They have if unemployment benefits a cuts and the labor market pitcher does not improve. Harriet something you've mentioned even with the consumer spending data. Coming out tomorrow is that all the data were talking about now? We are seeing of course on a lag, and it's not even giving us necessarily the picture of what we've been seeing. Unfold over the past couple of days or a week right? Yes, so this is this is kind of an issue with some of the gunman data we it does come with a quite long lag so today for instance we saw GDP data the final GDP data, but that was for the first quarter which ended in. In March, which was now you know seems like a very long time ago, and we also know now that the economy officially entered a recession in February, so we won't get data for the second quarter for about another month we can look at private data real time data that comes from companies, but it's not quite the same as government data that is very thirty sort of tested and so

Israel swears in new Netanyahu led Government
"And said the spread of covert nineteen is inevitable after three deadlocked in divisive elections a year and a half of political paralysis and another three day delay because of political infighting in his Likud party prime minister. Benjamin Netanyahu finally swore in his new government on Sunday. The Knesset Parliament Pasta. Vote of confidence. In Netanyahu's new administration to end over five hundred days of upheaval over the weekend both Netanyahu and his rival and partner. Benny Ganz announced their appointments for the new government. The most bloated in Israeli history with an expected thirty six cabinet ministers and sixteen deputies Netanyahu against a former military chief announce last month they would be putting their differences aside to join forces to steer the country through the corona virus crisis and its severe economic fallout. They're controversial power-sharing deal calls for Netanyahu to serve as prime minister for the government's first eighteen months before being replaced by Ganz for the next eighteen months despite the criticism. Despite virus, Pompeo in Israel to talk West Bank annexation
"Good morning a journey by secretary of state Mike Pompeii raises a question Pompey was in Israel to meet prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his new coalition partner Benny Gantz it's only Pompeii second trip abroad since the pandemic curtailed much travel so the question what is happening that made this trip essential NPR's Daniel Estrin joins us from Jerusalem Daniel good morning good morning Tim what's it like anyway when the secretary of state travels during a pandemic it's a lot of choreography to try to keep them in a bubble and this is visit is only six hours long Pompey was doctor is been checking the temperature of the staffers in the reporters on the plane one of those reporters said that many people wore masks on the plane but not all of them and Pompey was getting an exception from Israel's ban on foreign visitors no foreigners are allowed in Israel at all right now when he landed in Israel he was wearing a red white and blue face mask he then delivered remarks standing next to prime minister Netanyahu they stood about six feet away from each other they were not wearing masks but their advisors were and the US ambassador to Israel was not there at all because he has mild upper respiratory symptoms and even though he tested negative for the virus he's not meeting Pompeo just in case is it clear what made this trip so important that's the big question Steve you know why it's just not do it on zoom okay says there are issues he wanted to discuss face to face he mentioned a couple he mentioned keeping up the pressure on Iran Israel's successes in combating the corona virus he also alluded to China's connection to the virus all issues that maybe don't need a face to face meeting in the middle of a pandemic but there is one big topic that a lot of people here talking about that they could be seeking to coordinate on the two leaders and that is trump's Mideast peace plan here's what Pompeo said in a time now we'll get a chance to talk about the vision for peace for now some months on up from the day that you came to Washington with president trump announced that vision for peace when you were there there remains work yet to do and we need to make progress on that I'm looking forward to it and let's just be clear here trump's peace plan would have Israel expand its borders and annex every single Israeli settlements in the occupied west bank and and they tell me I want to do that as early as July what would the United States have to say about such a plan that is the other big question because there are mixed signals coming from the trump administration and from Israeli leaders on what exactly their positions are here I mean Pompeo says it's up to the Israelis decide on on whether to annex the Israelis say depends on U. S. approval but this is a very explosive issue most countries in the world oppose annexation and they want a Palestinian state to be created in the in the west bank instead and you know annexation would anger trump's Arab allies European countries are even considering sanctions on Israel if it annexes land you have that but then on the other hand the west bank is the land of the Bible and an annexation of that land would be very popular with trump's evangelical base especially in the run up to the November elections so I think the big question here is what does Israel want to do does it want to annex leaders here are divided on that the right wing Netanyahu seems to be pushing for it but his centrist partner Danny Gans it doesn't seem to be a Daniel very briefly some people who maybe don't follow the news every day out of Israel may hear you say prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and that they're asking wait a minute he's prime minister again he is for the last year and a half the time now was struggling to win a new term but now he and his election rival Danny guns have agreed to a deal that's on you know gets eighteen more months in

Perhaps Benny Evangelist was murdered. By someone seeking revenge someone who believed that he ripped them off whether through the sale of a potion or through a real estate dispute. Benny's lawyer Anthony. Spat told detectives that while evangelist had been involved in multiple lawsuits over real estate transactions. None of them rose to a level of grievance that could have caused the massacre of his entire family. Benny Evangelists had no criminal. History just one misdemeanor charge for improperly installed plumbing in one of his properties even his side business of selling potions and invocations was considered legal by city officials. The most recent recent letter was only six months old and read quote. This is your last chance but the black hand serey that nowhere as nineteen twenty nine. The black hand was outdated. Benny like police would probably not have taken the threat seriously correctly assuming that it was an amateur trying to scare him. The only credible suspects that the police could find. We're forty two year old Umberto Tokyo and his friend Angelo Poly Tech. Yo had gone to the evangelist home the night before the bodies were found. He was there to make the final payment on a house that he had purchased from Benny his friend. I didn't know if it was going to be for baller basketball but every single day like I was working towards that and our talented anybody out there. One person in the world is Allie. I want them to also learn from friends who still have the same doubts fears and insecurities still were able to overcome those things. There are ups and downs in life if you really want something. You're going to have to stay precision discipline and go after it. And that's what I just want be learning. I want people to take away from it. Give us some insight on one of the time because I know I'm in a season and in time in my life where I have had the thought. Okay I want to give up. I don't WanNa to do this anymore. What about you have you ever had a time in your life or in your career where you wanted to give up? You wanted to quit. But you didn't and help US UNDERSTAND. What made you continue on? I don't think I ever wanted to give quit. I would always tell myself dot to give up or quit in. Ireland will just know that. I would have a lot of regrets if I did give up to quit so I don't think I've had very cut moments like man. I don't WanNa feel this pain or I don't WanNa feel dizzy or fear a life. I've always told myself like you're going to regret this. If you don't go back out there or try so I don't ever want to give up but I just like everybody else. I've had my fears. That's an insecurities but I'll always tell myself. You gotta go for the asked. You knew each yourself up. If you don't get it was was one of your biggest failures if you describe it that way personally. I don't consider anything that I don't achieve as a failure but talk a little bit about some of those moments for you. What was the biggest moment in your life where he thought? Wow Man that Dingo will. I have moments like this every year but the first time. I've really felt a big failures. Probably my Richard Junior year at Michigan State. That'd be twenty twelve and I dropped. Touchdown passes on a big nationally televised game on ABC. And now that was the first time where you know they gain was really on my shoulders. I mean only happened in the first quarter. But you know you know. Lose game first quarter but I like that play could have made by different game. That was the first time night. They'll those fears and insecurities all that nervousness said. That's when I really got into understanding the mind. How strong the MY IDEAS? I can care of your mind. How IMPORTANT MODEL

Entrepreneurs of intolerance compound COVID-19 racist backlash

My colleague from our Chinese service see when Sheehan temporarily based back home while Cova nineteen disrupts every aspect of our lives has been talking to these special reporter about how hidden. Prejudices have been exploited by nationalist politicians and others she describes as entrepreneurs of intolerance to create a frightening new social and political dimension to this pandemic suen spoke to Yale educated Professor Tschumi who was appointed by the Human Rights Council to her key job in November. In mid April as they su-nam even had rippled from Wuhan to Europe then striking the US with New York City home to UN headquarters the epicenter of the world's worst pandemic in a century Sutton nationalities ethnicities have become targets of racism and xenophobia tax. Maybe my question would be. Why did this happen precisely at the time when we should unite? You're right to say that it's counter intuitive that at a time when there is so much risk and uncertainty that they were also algorithm of certain groups and what seems like increases in intolerant and vegetate. But I think it has to do with the fact that in emergency situations like these underlying problems that exist I just exacerbated. Many of these groups are groups that already subject to latent intolerance and xenophobia and prejudice take the example of Asian Americans will people who are perceived to be of Asian descent in the US. Right now have been subject to xenophobic racist attacks in the wake of cove. Nineteen you can think about say Africans who are being subject to various measures in China right now also in response to the covert nineteen pandemic you can think about Roma who have been targeted in different European countries from being accused of spreading the virus and being subject to extreme measures. Benny members of those groups can tell you the long history of Racial Discrimination Xenophobia even prior to there being a pandemic groups that in general of vulnerable to racism xenophobia. So I would say we should understand these attacks. As naming Bay in many places prejudices and biases that are often latent and in this pan-demic they become even more pronounced and that combined with the fact that you actually have actors as you might think of as entrepreneurs of intolerance certain actors whether the politicians whether they media outlets actually took prophet and to exacerbate into enflame intolerance jumping into the fray and ham referring to political leaders who've been willing to come out the knicks statements that are explicitly implicitly phobic in my statement that you reference. I speak to this example here in the west of the president who keeps Lee referred to the virus as China virus. And you see this happening in different parts of the world as well this kind of statement at high levels of political office if you ask me. Signals in acceptability of stigmatization of specific regions of specific groups of people who come from those regions presumably these narratives actions are very harmful absolutely individuals. On the group's fourth subject racism and xenophobia because they all particularly mysterious. Akina race of the national origin. And sometimes it's because they presumed to be the of examples of Vietnamese people who being attacked and they are attacked sharing to them as Chinese. We're seeing examples in the US of bubble attacks of bushel stigmatization. So when you're walking down the street and let's say you are perceived to be of Asian descent people yes the social distancing but this also goes Glasgow and the kind of wide that speaks to something racial is taking place. There's been examples of spitting and then there's also just physical violence people who are being beaten up because they are presumed to be of Ns necessity or racial designation that is associated with having spread disease which we know this is not Hollywood. It's not salutes are more prone to the virus but this is what's happening in Europe. You have examples of people being denied access to goods and services and some of the examples that I've been looking at which published in the European Union's on the Mental Rights Agency. They just had a report out on cove. Nineteen and there's a section in the other talks about discrimination that talks about people of Asian descent to perceive to be of Asian descent. Being refused the right to rent an apartment people being refused access to healthcare. These are just examples. I'm not saying this is everywhere. Near these examples to highlight in the report they will talk about people at agent descend being denied access to best rants access to schools. This is before. Some of the measures were implemented and then in China Africans fleeing victims from their residents in long show people having multiple seized denial of access to restaurants so those are examples of the kinds of Homs that individuals in groups are experiencing also want to highlight the mental and emotional costs and the IAEA that these groups have to carry as a result of these attacks.

"Like I'm I can move on now and so I'm appreciative of you guys. Let me on and come to talk about that. And then since then man things have calmed down a lot, which is great. You know things that are really normal for me. I live a normal life here. In Nashville I love obviously being around mind came, and and that has. In a ton of great friends, and my wife, and have this made the community so I mean it's. It's pretty normal right now. which is good and I'm just working hard and doing a little bit of travelling. I told myself wanted to slow down and travel the last few months. and just kind of focus on other things. Because as you guys know, it feels like you once you. You go on that show, and you start doing all these events, and and you guys still doing these you're on the road every week, and it starts kind of started wearing me down a little bit, so it's Nice, actually set up shop. Get a house. make it home for wanted. It feels like a home and just kind of you know. Take it day by day, but it's been awesome. Premium before you leave I wanted to tell you guys. This game that we've been bling. It's you could do you do multiple takes on it, but it's which. Bachelor Star. Would you WANNA be corn tainted quarantined with which Bachelor Star would you want would be able to pick you up at a bar. Most easily So this is how you do it, you go. Who would you rather be quarantined with Ashley or bed? And then you go, Ben, who would you rather quarantined with Ben or Sean and then you go that you decide from there, and then let's pretend beduins again. Oh, let's pretend sean wins. So who would you rather be quarantined with Sean or Colton? Well, you definitely don't want. Be Reduced Gold or now about example. Shawn's easy win for Sean. Shun or Mike Johnson okay, and then you keep going until that person just keeps wooden over and over again, and it's like who you think about. This is for the girls out there or the gay guys. If you're sitting at a bar and you have sean and Ben next you. WHO's GonNa? Pick you up at the bar easier, and then you. You take it from there. Then you added another layer. It's so much fun. It's like Mary effort. Kill today like Middle School. kind of I guess starting to get I've had get off social media for the last few days. 'cause I mean I know people are bored, but it's really starting to show on instagram and I mean some of these challenges are fun, and then some of them are just getting ridiculous or like all right. You're going to squat your dog. And you got to eat. Fourteen bowls of cereal. Back. People go. Outrageous. I I've done some weird stuff in my living room Sean and then ten pushups. I've done fifteen sit-ups which he knows a lot for me and. It's gotten hard the whole time. Hey, Sean, before we go. I got to clean one last story. I think you'll appreciate it. yesterday I went on a run and Jessica and I left my house at the same time by the time we we hit the two mile mark. I had a buddy I saw. While is running than I yelled. "And we're back is are birthday guests on the line. Oh Hi who. Is this So I'm watching Ben's expression as you dislike are popping on another room honey. He's living they. I can see her. She's in the other room literally. How's my girl doing? How's the social distancing for the past thirty minutes? I know we've been together provost the week now cart through windows the Here's the cool part. Actually I had a little advice for anybody listening On how you can keep a romantic relationship. Thriving one is Jessica I spent At least an hour and a half of our day. exercising separately. And so we've we've done our own thing we've taken walks outside. We've done our own like advocacy or sizes inside separately and then we come back together Afterwards to just do a puzzle or hang out or whatever the rest after looks like but I'm not kidding We have spin The last week with with my parents and just in the same house and our cat diamond and it has been really specialty. Think Hon yeah. It's really fun and Subaru relaxing. Actually we I feel like our relationship is so different because we never get night where we just get to watch me now. Eight seven in a row. Yeah and you guys have never lived together. So that's like a little practice in that anything you've learned about each other that you wouldn't have known. Had you not had this week to live together absolutely one of the things. I've learned as I've always known that Jessica's family is very important to her and I've also known that my family's very important her but what are the cool parts about spending the wheat together? My Parents House so far is just how intrigued and curious and interest. She is just getting to spend time with everybody. And so it's been really cool to see her Love on my family love on me. Support me Help out where she can. And I don't think we would have experienced at unless we had a unique area where we are going to be stuck inside together for seven days jess. What do you think blog? I think for me? It's been a panel of being around been really hard week to for him as a leader and I've been doing how he handled himself under stress. I've never been with him in something in a situation where it would be like genuinely it could be. I mean vasteras and he's detained themselves so gracefully and he's loved other so well and he never wants complains about his situation but is super willing to give to others always knew about him but seeing it in such an intense time. It's been really cool to you. That's so awesome. Yeah that's such an important quality to see and the person that you you know wonder if you're going to spend forever with it's good to see them under pressure for both of us and I think we were talking about earlier. Ashley is everybody's hurting in their own ways right now and Some worse than others and some have different difficulties in. We can't compare each other is owned pains. But this is this is really into the surface that all of us state each other and It's been really awesome to have My sweet sweet girlfriend there Beside me as we do manage through these situations so hey seven days login a house and I am more in love than ever you. You're still young all right. We'll check up on Ben and just in a month all right that'll be. That'll be an interesting dichotomy. Maybe all right well dressed. Thanks for joining us so we have our final surprise birthday guests for Ben on the line special guests. I'm GonNa have you just say the word? Hi Ben Ha the words. Hi Ben and I WanNa see if he can tell who. It is just based on the words. Hey Bad oh boy. That's a tough for him. I if I get it. I think I think I'm GONNA have to have a little more okay so say hi Ben. And Ashley I and Actually I oh man Sean.

"Remember what the meal that I remember sitting down thinking. Oh Wow thank you thank you God. This is just beautiful. What's next for Richard? What's the next big stage that he wants to mark Benning? I think he would actually like to play the Rabat's I think that's not gonNA happen. McCurry so I think the footy seasons just start that Paul actually becomes a fully with because the Games are looking to credit God lover. She loves her man. She's now a member number the bunnies as well. They've got both take Danny absolutely and so they go to games all the time so they live in a way week to week but they plan month unease ahead so Richard next year turns thirty. So we're after New York. That's his next big adventure. We've got a little bit of of audio who've you speaking to Richard should about that trip to New York so let's have a listen to Richard doesn't into thirty among say he means in New York and she's GonNa be in business class and we might do tools and streams josh food food to our city. And we'll see looking forward to spend time Richard to you about the trip to New York so sex in the city to I am I had to suffer all these terrible as said wrestling things. He he make me make me sit down and watch the most appalling television. I did so I used to make him sit much. Six in the city with macy's knows a lot about women. We went to London a couple of years ago. And we did the whole Harry Potter thing. And we've been to Greece than did the Mama Mia. He loves all that stuff so he's really excited about that. I think in actually I shouldn't say this too but hopefully they'll get married Monday. Let's also on the horizon for them. They spoken to you about wanting to have children. Have you had that conversation. And with him yeah. It was a big conversation that we had to have because Richard really values family. And he really. I think wanted to have family of his On but you know the way life is them. That's not a possibility and they both understand. That said they're both very fortunate that they have to God the children that they love the actually has her little. Godson and Richard has his Godson Charlie. And that's where they put a lot of their joy and love. I think they're quite happy with effect that you know they have chosen not to go down the road We've had lots of talks about it. And the you know the sadness and the loss of not being able to do that. But they're pretty pragmatic people as well and I know they have a very good life and that they also get joy from their extended ended family in these beautiful. God's children if you could go back in time Benny to that cluster of worried nurses and doctors around your bedside when you held baby Richard in your arms. What do you think you'd say to them? Yeah I'd say well. Didn't we approval of you wrong and I think interestingly interesting enough that pediatrician autograph from the moment we went into her room. She dressed Richard all the time. And that you know we were lucky. We had lots of good medical people. People really good sir show people around her didn't pt us. That you know expected good things and I think you know professionals need to lift their game. It's not terrible. It's a blessing. You have all babies are a blessing and I think. Take away the stigma from what is and say what can be and Richard Shit. My God. What a great life this next three weekends? I can't see him because you've got social activities on and I'm sitting at reading a book. He's out having the time accommodative live. Isn't that great and I think it's just because people have given him as opportunities you know primary school that accepted him with open arms and the community community. That worked around that. It doesn't take much there so I think. Yeah that's I see this boy this man and I'm so incredibly proud of what he has achieved leave because he knows he's he can have a great life as most people with a disability. Can congratulations on your son. So thank you so much for sharing your story stories use so much been such a pleasure. Thank you Benny. Ages was my own conversations today.
