"I mean, they all had a great sense of humor in different ways to and one of the great things about being a baseball writer range. I don't know what it's like in the other sports, But, um, I'm almost one of the most fortunate things about my career and all baseball writers careers. You go to work every day knowing you're gonna laugh. You're gonna laugh when you're talking to these people in the clubhouse. And the manager's. You're gonna laugh in the press box up until the point when the game's about there and you have to, You know, you have to get down the work. And, um, when you consider just all of the learning experiences need, you know the ability to Laugh in the last 11 or 12 years or so, with the advent of social media, the ability to have back and forth with the people who read you and I have to tell you, I mean I expected. You know when I said I was retiring? I I expected, you know, maybe I don't know. 64 saying. Hey, thank you. I'm gonna miss you. Maybe 73 it was I mean, I heard from a few people who said good good riddance. But The outpouring. I got some people just in terms of I mean, hundreds and hundreds of emails, texts, people on Twitter. Uh and you know, saying that, you know, not only did they read me that but their fathers read me and their grandfather's read me. A soon as I heard that I decided I'd better join up. It was it was very It was very humbling and very touching. I'm glad Twitter twitters and devilish sword, obviously, but I'm glad that I was around long enough. S so that I could have a good decade, you know, being able to interact with Giants fans and people who read me in real time because it was mostly a lot of fun. Give me a couple of your fondest memories, whether it be a great game you covered or just interaction or an interview that yet you did a couple of things that you remember when you look back on your career with the Giants. You like just immediately pop to your mind. Well, I have a funny Felipe a loose story, and I got to be careful how I tell this because there is so many expletives in this story. Um, but, um, I'll do my best to try to get keep you on the air. We were in really field. We were at Wrigley Field and his son. His kid moistness was playing for the comes. Uh And I think it might have been 03. I might have been at the Barton and year or the year after that, and the Giants had a lefty Puss Baller named Damian Moss from Australia. Absolutely. You know, for Russell Tes. They got him, right? Yeah, I think so. And so in the first inning, Moss is pitching. You guys get on Moises comes out. First pitch fastball boom. He hits it on the Waveland Avenue. Three. Nothing. Um and, uh, that was the final score that ended up being the final score three. Nothing where is solely based office after the game, and, um You know the way we all knew what we needed to ask on. I don't remember who asked it, But the question was what we pay what you think about that first pitch fastball to your son to voices and he just started turning colors I've never seen before, and he grabbed a binder from behind him. And this is where you've got it. You've got a picture. 100 curse words and what I'm about to say You see this book, you'll see this goddamn book right here. This book tells you everything you need to know about every goddamn hitter in baseball and the one thing this book says, you know what this book says. You don't throw my shape. Aloo a fastball that down way wrote it down. Thank you believe they will see it freaking about. Yeah, another police a story. I remember that was dead. He some of the stories because he wasn't doing this to be funny. It just was funny. There was there was a night game was a Sunday night baseball game it in Cincinnati and the cameras caught Him and Benito Santiago, arguing in the dugout during You know, like, you know, between innings they were arguing, and we I didn't know about this until the next home game. When because we have seen people began to tell us that this was happening. And so I got into police face office alone. Just knocked on the door and sat down and I said, Hey, they were showing this on TV. Do you have a problem with potatoes on you? But you know something? I don't have a problem. And, um, he just went into heat launched into this rant about how those same people on TV where the ones who said I could never be a major league manager, and that's why I was stuck in a ball for six years with because this and that and you have nothing to do with what I was asking him and they just as I'm about to leave. You know, Santiago walks in the door of the clubhouse with the first thing you pass when you walked in the club house on the left is the manager's office and in the middle of his ramp, Felipe Ego's big eagle. Come here now. Benito watching. He has no idea what's going on and Benito walks in. I'm sitting there, a reporter Um and and I believe I just looks up at him and goes Hey, cheap. You and I have a problem and But, you know, he's just like dumbstruck. He doesn't know what to say. And he just looks at him and says No, We don't have a problem. Believe a and and politics is good Go and you know what I mean The kicker to the story. Kicker to the story is they absolutely hated each other. Find out this. You find out this stuff later on Santiago Just absolutely couldn't stand one another. Hey, thank you. Wow. I got a lot of directions. Uh, let me ask you because Susan Slusser is taking over for you. And you mentioned you covered the A's for awhile. It's funny when I was young and first came to Camp er. I was in the Yankee clubhouse in Oakland one day and I was talking to one of their beat writers. And I'm like how man, This must be a fun job, You guys. He's like you kidding, kid. It's freaking hell on earth. You know if the Bergen record gets something, and I don't get it, and I don't have the exact same thing or something, you know, competitive, my ass is gone. He's like he's like It's a This is this job tell. I mean, it's it's not fun, but I kind of learned that every beat is a little bit different. And there's a lot of pressure that goes with the New York Yankee beat. Um what? What is Susan Walking into? Is there the giant beat and the A's beat? Is it Is it Absolutely the same is a different What should she know that about the Giants beat before she gets into it? Well, I mean, it's different. It is completely different. And in one reason is that Susan had been around for so long covering the age that she really kind of dominated the beat there. I mean, there was just a succession of people who came in from the mark and the athletic and you know, AP and anybody who you want to ask about. You know, they all came in, and they're all competing with Susan, who has you know, covered? The meat should be recovering the ace for almost as long as I was with the Giants with the monocle with over 20 years, and it's awfully hard to compete with somebody when you go into a situation like that, Well, now she's coming into a situation where she's gonna be competing against the guy like bags. Who's an excellent excellent reporter who In fact, is some of the Giants now I think for I think he just did 1/17 season. You got tabs who'd been around for a while. You got carried. You haven't been around as long. But he's an excellent reporter, so it might not be as easy for her in the beginning, But I will say. On the other hand, she knows more people outside the Bay Area in terms of baseball. She has just done really well over the years, and that's the No scouts executives on and all those people. That's where you get a lot of students. A lot of your suits come from out of town. Not so I'm in town, and I will say that there were times where she called me when we were both at the Chronicle and said, Hey, I heard the Giants are gonna be us. Check it out. I did check it out, and it turned out to be true..

"At us like it's a joke. And then you finished under 500 this year, like set Exactly, Man. The kid's a clown man. I'm sorry you didn't team his love's 18 straight playoff. Exactly, Exactly. So he's awesome going, Kevin. Carlos Correa column A clown hey, didn't want to hear it and then, But he acknowledges What we all acknowledge is that when Dusty Baker's in the dugout out here in baseball in the major league out since 1968, okay? Here He is in 2020, still wearing the sweat The wrist bands and CC acknowledges that he's got to feel he's got the fields for dusty. I'm so conflicted because I'm so close to dusty and I loved dusty and he's like, you know, like a big uncle. He's like, That's my guy. So yeah, to be managing. I'm happy that he was able to win. Another playoff series shows are greater manager he is But CC great sound to very, very good man. Hey, And then last one here. Ah, listener turned us on to this. He says. Hey, you guys might want to check out Trevor Bowers. You too. You know Trevor Bauer. Where's T shirts that says I want to get to 100,000. YouTube follows and I don't know. Yeah, and hey, had Eric Gagne on Air Gagne, you remember was the roided out Dodgers pitcher who faced a roided out Barry Bonds. I was lucky enough to be at that game. When Bonds hits the line shot home run of the center field fence. Giants still lose that game, actually. They also had an occasion where bond singled off Aghani and drove in Bonn. Benito Santiago that led to gun You rip the phone off the wall member. Yeah, great. Gani A BA and this was on Trevor Bauer's podcast, called Bauer's Bites. And gone. You talked about the backstory of him and bonds. There's a whole story behind it because me and him. We went to Japan to and a half years before and remember. He's getting Walker's chickens everywhere, Francisco You know, nobody pitched. It comes up to me goes eyes me, John B. And a couple of days I was just sitting there in the clubhouse and It was the Tokyo Dome and were centered all tired because it's 4 30 in the afternoon. I was like 5 30 our time and we're sitting there and nobody thinks me ever, man. Know what Mike very mean. I'm in the game. It's one only I'm never gonna face you're the best in the world. My opinion is the best I ever step. On the field that might My face he goes. Come on 2.5 years later, and I will. One day if I had, like a three round lead, Whatever. So that was the day. Okay, So you said by the way, they're just eating away in that podcast, Right munching and the chewing and the moisture in the saliva kind of bummed me out. But anyway s O. Yeah, We have a backstory Bond saying I want to face you want to face you in Japan? Then Bon says there was he laid down some ground rules here. We were in the clubhouse. Yeah, and they're looked at me. He goes. Hey, you ever gonna face means I will. But he's got to be certain scenarios. I get no change up on my No change of like, I can I throw up so he goes. Yeah. One off speed. My It's a curveball 16 on my way by those. Yeah, because you can't change it like the best pitch in baseball during that every deal. I don't care, but, you know, but I gotta throw offspeed. There's no only one of my Do you know it's gonna be a curveball? There it is that they wanted going pitch by pitch, but it's a little long but good stuff. We could get into a little bit later in the show. I think unless hopes you thinkit's it too long in Injun as a minute, why don't we do it? Actually, let's do it right now. We're good. We had no guests on the other side. And to leave everybody hangings. No boy now, So here's Gani and Trevor Bauer breaking down the bonds gone yet bat pitch my pitch on the video before this about like you, Khun. Just see it at the end, pay very close attention when bonds is walking around The hitter to give to the left handed batters box. She can see him. "Year is only two months, maybe finally, his year. Well, I'll tell you what, you know Brandon Belt. He always amazed me. I always thought he would hit. You know, 2025 home runs. He's got seven. Now, of course, in a short season. That's probably around 15 or 18. If we talked 162 game schedule, but I cant a couple guys that are really catching my eye and they're both young players. And that's Mauricio du Bon. As well as Joey. Bart, Tell me your thoughts on these two young players and availability is as they're playing pretty much every day now, and we're seeing pluses as well as minuses. And and the negatives are a lot less than we thought. The positives airway and a lot more. Yeah, I think both are especially Du Bon is taking a lot of abuse on social media from fans who maybe want to much too quickly. I mean, this is a guy who's really never played the outfield. And he's playing. You know Willie Mays, his old position and, and that ain't easy for a guy whose played short second his whole life, But he's such a good Instinctual ballplayer and never mind what he did in the eighth inning We got doubled off the other day that happens when he knew it right. Obviously, he was putting his head down and running. You never put your head down and running. You've got to see the ball. You see the play. You gotta anticipate you'll be smarter in that he's copped up to it. And to his credit, he went right on zoom. And confessed everything and he didn't hide in these days. It's easier to say no, I don't want to talk today, as opposed to when we were in the clubhouse would just walk up to you. It's harder to say no, but but it's a different world in Du Bon, you know, fessed up, and I like the guy because Uh, you just never know what's gonna happen. He could ignite a team offensively or defensively. He is making diving catches. You got a decent arm. Um You know, decent base runner For the most part. I keep thinking about that play, but but offensively could provide some punch. I think I think they worked with him. You know that big leg kick I always wondered about. Yeah, probably worked in high school and low minors. But now you're with the big boys and they're gonna fool you if you if you have that big leg kick, and you're not the big power guy, um, he isn't so I think I think they were trying to tame him a little bit with the stance and approach and I think it's it's working out. He seems to get like a big hit. Most every game he's playing, But Bart man, uh, that's going to take time. I mean, that's that's a Z says catching is his priority. It's not hitting and there's so much to it and And Posey had Benjie Molina as a mentor. And Bart doesn't really have a mentor who who played, you know, 10 years in the bigs behind the plate, Posey opted out and maybe next year he gets that mentorship and turns it up a notch. But You know defensively, other than that one clunker within the Johnny Cueto game. I think he's been pretty good. We haven't seen enough of his arm may be, but for the most part, I think he works well with pitchers and he's kind of hit. I mean, we saw him in the minors in the fall League in spring training and You're going going to the spring training games every day and watching the BP in the simulated games in the inter squad games. You just knew he was one of the best hitters on the team. So when he struggles, you know it's a case of. Well, he's young, he'll get over it. I think both those guys going develop pretty nicely for this team. Speaking of John Shea here on Labor Day and and, you know, we just got done talking about Du Bon and Joey Barton and one of the things that is coming back into the game, and you're going to laugh at me when I say it, Manny sanding and Tony Pino, with the one knee bent under the catcher with the leg out to get the low strike. I was talking to somebody the other day, and I said, Well, this is new, and I'm like no one has this Is Manny saying game because he was the first one who did it. What do you think of that? In a new style of catching You and I covered Benito Santiago on his first couple years in San Diego when I lived down there, and that guy was just perfected the throw from your knees and nail the guy at second, and it's I'd like I'd like to hear from you. I loved Sandy and you know, bench was a traditional, You know, he invented the bare hand behind the back and paint you with the great arm. Um, but But you're right. It's it's It's all about framing and it's all about, you know, Steal a strike and and you know, But what does that make you as athletic as you should be, because your flexibility is what's your take? Well, I like it in the wind up. I don't like it when there's runners on base. I just think I like the traditional in the crouch in and I like that is nobody on I'm a sinkerballer slider pictures, So I want to steal those pictures on the knees and Anya.

"I'll pick. I mean, just two years ago, and the Giants have only got there. The drafted that high in their history was one of the greats. Will Clark, who hit the home run off a Nolan Ryan at the Astrodome in his first major league at bat when I gave you that was so Yeah, we got we got number two on her mind so you'll be hearing number two, and we'll be talking about number two today. By the way, I could give you a list. I just quickly looked at the list of Of number two picks of great number two picks an MBA history and I'm gonna wait to do this one last because this is the one that you're going to say. But Durant, Peyton Earl Monroe, Isiah Thomas. Bob McAdoo, Isaiah went number two. Yeah, I love Mac. I know you, Dogo. I have to go back. And look, it was 81. I think. Thank anyone after they won the championship when I'm doing this off the top. I haven't looked yet. I bet it's mark isn't wasn't MARKET Dwyer Mark acquire made it was 81. I'm gonna look it up now, but I may have another Paul. I'm a draft dork in every McAdoo was show that requirement one of the most underrated players, but that's a nice top. Look at the look at the top in 81, Mark Weir, Zia, Thomas Buck Williams. Any rays player number three. Overall, your New Jersey next where he went to Portland. He was a great Tom Chambers were Lando Blackman Kelly trip. Yuka, who Really good score in the old Silver Dome. Yeah, so barge. We haven't talked about his game last night and we'll get into with bags. Sandra Bag earlier. Join us. 11 30, Giants writer for the athletic and show on it. He's big. He is tall. There is no doubt that there's been big catchers in baseball is you know it's not like you can't do it. But the way they want that low pitch framed. No, He was not doing it last night. The way Heinemann and Trump we're doing it. Where he would try to get down on one leg. And he did it with nobody on base. But still he's not. It's not like Mani San GI and getting down Wait way down, or Sandy el Ahmar Junior Tony tenure. Benito Santiago, where they would really get down low riders. And then with a runner on base, he would more do it, he would sometimes dropped to one knee. But he would also dropped to a knee and then stand up tall. And you know his torso and he blocks the ball. Well, the one that was in the dirt away looked like Mike Social way through his chest protector and soften the ball. It was just textbook. But he did have a cross up early in the game with Gausman. And Gausman is just weird to catch in A. J. Parazynski worked his last start on Fox on Saturday, and I could hear the boos in skis now, but a J catcher and his smart guy, and he pointed out something I was thinking about right away. Is that Jasmine is basically you know what they the firm Four seam fastball is high in the zone, You know, high above the letters, and he gets a lot of swing through Zon pictures that aren't even strikes or He gives you the split change, which is a dive bomb so you could sort of tell By where the catcher's sets up or how he sets up. If it's a higher, lo what you're going to get it, I it's going to be the four seamer if its lower he could throw, I guess a two seamer slide or something, but you gotta get the split if it's a low set up by and large So at Bard. May have been a little you know, with God's man on the mound where I was thinking about it so much, and even when they went to the bullpen, but we'll watch in the night with Logan Web So I just the way they want to catch and the way they talked about it and how good they are getting Called strike low out of the strike zone and getting those borderline pitches air so big and what they're thinking. One thing I want to get any with bags is Is she really a guy? They want to be their catcher for the long haul. The first base component, and we'll see it next year. With Buster comes back, hopefully But I know they said they want to run him out there every day or not, You know, not every day. They're not gonna wear them in the ground, You know, Day game after a night game like Saturdays of 6 10 game and in Sunday's a Day game, so maybe doesn't play some day Or maybe doesn't play Saturday. Whatever. But is he really They're kind of catcher. When day they didn't draft him. John Barr drafted him. They inherited him and then they went got Patrick Bailey. I haven't seen but you know he's 62 as well, though. They're both six to Bailey said to say 6 to 2 10 is what he's listed at. And Bart 622 35. So he's bulkier and you could tell he's he's beefy. They're both six to you know, I mean, did you see the way he was framing last night? He's not. He's not the low rider and guardsmen got hit a little bit. On that pitch That was just You know, I don't know if a better target could make that much difference to the production, but he got squared up more. Last night. He gave up nine hits in the game in five and one third in a lot of them were You know, Maybe that pitch wasn't quite low enough. So you see what I'm talking about? Jon is yeah. I don't know if he is there type of catcher because you've got first base and you've got D h and you've gotta trade component. If you want to do that as well, So I don't I don't know where he fits for the long haul here. Yeah, I would agree. I like him. Obviously right now they're going to see what he is. But like you said, if they have an organizational philosophy of How they want their catchers to set up. It's not only that he's six to. It's just that again. Maybe he's going to take on yoga, and he's going to become very flexible. But he's a beefy dude. You can tell, especially on from the waist down. He's got big thought. He's a big dude. Big legs. So he may not be flexible enough to do that kind of way. But again, Bailey's six too, but he's not as bulky is not big, so maybe he can. I don't know. I know this and we needed a lot more to be able to decipher what he is. But on that ball hit 109 Miles an hour down leftfield line..

"Ran down that speeds down your line into the corner. Built on his way to third. He'll pull up there on the second with his first major league hit. It's a double Joey Barton on DH. He hit that one like a laser beam right over the head of leaping Ren Donut third. Somebody get that baseball and send it back in Joey Barton, first Major league was kind of thinking about it. By the time we get out there, and we get to see Joey Barton. He'll have been a big leaguer for sometime. That's by the way that's that's not like a superimposed or or audio and hands. Listen to the crack of that. Get used to that sound. Giants fans. That's Joey Bar ripping doubles at Oracle Park like yards you gave Thank you gave Kappler Anyway, By the time we get to see him at Oracle Park in person will have been a big leaguer. Now for some time now, couple of takeaways from him yesterday he is catching on the knee. And by the way, if you look around baseball now This is happening everywhere. We were real frustrated with Heinemann and Trump going our these guys catching from Une they're not pitching or that eye catching like big leaguers. It doesn't seem like they've got. I don't know the whole, you know, trying to trying to frame the bottom of the strike zone stuff. I don't know that it's what they're coaching. Now you can look around baseball. I watch a lot of games from around the league, and a lot of young catchers are doing it well. Joey Barton was doing it yesterday He was on the knee, but he did get into the squad in its entirety a few times. The one takeaway I had from him was a catcher is he does not hold the position or the pitch location spot for the pitcher, and and maybe that's something he's never done. Maybe that's something Kevin Gausman doesn't like. Maybe that's something that they're coaching to not show the entirety of the location of the pitch. But I remember like Benito Santiago, who would be in the squad, he'd give the picture the sign once the picture, accepted the sign or started to go to the line up. Anita would set up and he would just flash his glove to the spot. And then he'd pull it back. Joey Bart didn't appear to do any of that. It just kind of tugged on his glove a little bit, gave the sign that would reach up and catch the pitch. Now, I don't know if that if that messes with the umpire or that they're telling you, maybe you don't do it that way. There was a pitch that he caught yesterday from gospel with run around second, where they needed to go and talk to him, and I don't know if you got crossed up, but it looked like he was ready to block. The pitch came in as a fast moving it kind of caught it in the heel of his glove. He was all right, but There was a moment where he went out to talk to him a trout on second and couple of fun pieces of sound that we'll get to a little later where Mike Trout apparently said some stuff to Joey borrowed when you went out, welcomed him to the show and parts that he was real cool toe. There was another moment where I think it was Joe Adele, Who's that young prospect and highly touted prospect for the Angels came up and Joey Bart was standing there, and Adele walked in front of him and kind of patted him on the shoulder. And I don't know if they played together in Arizona Fall League met each other in college. Or maybe it was just Ah, Big leaguer not into another big leaguer. Welcome up, man. It's going to be fun, but kind of a cool moment. It was real fun to get to see one of the top prospects, you know. I was trying to think back to the last time we had a real big prospect come up that we were excited about this guy who's making his debut, and we anticipate he's going to be an anchor for this line of Christian Royal had a little bit of that, by the way, ironically, Crystal rig a deaf aid Yesterday I saw about that and so big fall from grace there, but, yeah, you know, and again, he may not have even been the elite prospect we were talking about. You know, Matt Duffy wasn't viewed as an elite prospect when he came up Brandon Belt was supposed to be something special. Brandon Crawford was a defense of weeds and ended up becoming ah, fairly good, and obviously serviceable, R B I man and hit her. By the way. Brandon Crawford is ripping the cover off the ball right now. Longoria. Both are driving It runs like crazy was like it was like over the last week. It just feels like Crawford is locked in any is, by the way I went back and take a look at his numbers this morning over the last week or so, last five games for Crawford, eight for 17. That's a 4 71 batting average. He hit his 1/100. Career home run last night for the Giants. In that five game span. Six runs, four doubles, two homers, five strikeouts in just 24 Watch and four ribs, so Brandon Crawford, eight hits in the last five games. Six of them are extra base hits. Four doubles to Homer's so Oh, and Dave did the research there. Joey Bargain. Joe don't did play in the Arizona falling together. Pretty good stuff. There you go, Dave. Good research there, man behind the scenes. So there you go. So you know, you never know when these guys cross pass. We always say like, well, this hitter has never faced this picture before and crew go always points that he says well in a big league game, or, you know, not in an official game. A lot of these guys have seen each other. In spring training, right? Joey Barton was in camp with the Giants down in Scottsdale. And obviously the Angels are in Arizona to so sometimes it's just that these guys have not seen each other at the big league level. But I think from what we saw yesterday, it's reason to be excited. There is reason to be excited about Joey Barton fact that hit yesterday was just proof they've given that crack one more time in the back. Do this thing sounded super loud So he'll be back. There will be working with the pictures and the common I love yesterday. Here we go. The comment from from Farhaan yesterday was that Joey Barton is here to be the starting catcher. He's not here to play first base. He's not here to move around the diamond. He's here to learn howto handle the pitching staff for the remainder of the season. And my response to that is I love to see it. I love to see that this is all we ask for. This is all we wanted was an opportunity for this guy to develop the big league level,.

What's going on most Maggie Rich. All right, Maggie, I gotta be honest. Maybe I usually disagree with your 90% of the time. I usually take moose aside. But, boy, Meggie, you are dead on when it comes to judge Sorry, I'm a big judge Fan. But he's injured too much and one more person You haven't even brushed upon his Gary Sanchez, another guy that's always injured. I'm sorry. These big contracts. You can't give big contract to these people if they're always going to be injured. Listen, I think that you know the thing about Sanchez, though, which might help him. First of all is it's not a redundancy issue. See, I think that Stanton and Judge have such similar skill sets. And I know judges a better outfielder, but stands not a terrible outfielder when he gets to play right, which is his natural position, which we saw him play in the 2018 season when Judge was hurt for most of August, and it was good, so also playing injured at that time. Great Jerry. There's not a redundancy there. He's there, starting catcher and and behind him is Carla. Gosh, Boka. I all agree that there adequate fielders, but they're constantly constantly getting injured and remember number would, Gary Sanchez said. About 18 months ago when he got taken out? He says, I don't hustle. I mean, literally, he said. I don't have so when he was interviewed. I mean that to me. You're wearing the paint stripes. And you admit that your you don't hustle and you're expecting a big contract. Why I'd be fearful Sanchez. For the like of, I don't know. I think there would be a concern level and a gamble and a risk off how the player would react to us Long term Big money contract. Absolutely. I'd be concerned with Sanchez, who Had issues with motivation in the minor leagues finally saw the light of day lost some weight had a big impact on this team. We've seen him get lazy behind home plate. With defensively, you know, not blocking, not blocking balls. Some of the you know the way that he sometimes he does not follow through on what he needs to do behind on plate. That's been well documented. I'd be a little concerned. I love his bat, his bats a game record he won. He's on. I think he's right. There is the best offensive catcher and all the major league baseball but They would have to be some in depth conversations as an organisation when you're investing in Gary Sanchez and how the player would react to that deal. That's just me, though. I think that I just want to be. I think the quote I don't know if this changes that or not, but I think the quote was I could have run harder, right? I think that's what it was. He did. Did he say I didn't hustle? I think he said I could have run harder, Correct. I got him. Totally roasted, And the thing is about Sanchez is, you know much like I said, I believe that Miguel and Du Har can improve his defense at third. I do think that Gary Sanchez can approve his defense. I D'oh. He's gonna have a noose, You know, sort of set up this year with that one me down, And I think these guys are so young moose. I think that they could still have They still have a lot more growth development. Here's the difference. Sanchez is bad is just so much ahead of where his defense is, as a catcher makes it seem off balance of times, right. Well, I just looked at the motivation of the player, though I'm not telling you that Sanchez can't do it. He can do anything he wants. He's a He's an unbelievably gifted young man, unbelievably gifted baseball player. There's no question about it. The problem is his motivation. What drives you. Are you willing to go above and beyond? There was a time where? Gary Sanchez Gary Sanchez. If you're a Yankee fan you heard about him. Is he catching prospect before he got called up for five or six years about what? He was going to be on the major league level? So when you finally saw him it was almost like saying, you know, it was almost like seeing you know, the Finally, the elephant in the room showed up. I mean, you you heard about him. The Yankees thought about him highly. But motivation has always been an issue with Sanchez. That's the concern. I might tell. You can't prove it improved defensively, but Do you have the wherewithal and do you have the drive to be committed to understanding what it means to be great defensively along with offensively, Remember, we talked about Sanchez his arm when he was thrown guys off throwing guys out at second base like Benito Santiago from his knees. He's got an absolute bazooka. Azan arm, but the defensive principles for Gary Sanchez Ah, lot of that has not been cleaned up, or he's been lazy with what he's been doing behind home plate. Now, would he clean that up if you gave him a big money contract? That remains to be seen. I'm just telling you, it's a conversation the organization would have. I don't think there's any doubt about it. Let's head out to Staten Island it, sire. It's the family's going on IRA. Hey, what happened to Mostyn? Maggie here, lawyer. Everything is good. I know you're talking baseball, but I just want to get you back. Prescott comments on this, You know, I think that cowboys have totally handled this wrong. This guy. What, like 26 25 years old. And he's still like 52 touchdowns and about pointing deceptions over the last two years and quarterback from one position to do not want to play around with and I know they get slapped again next year for franchise taken 37 million. But if they know he's going to be out there in the free agent market, which kind of ties ing and I'm sure you're sort of stories yesterday, so many teams will be looking for a quarterback and, you know, legally church and my jets with Donald. I believe in him. I think he has all the ability to be that type of quarterback like numbers that Prescott putting up But, you know, man this year he has to do it. You know, regardless to the coach, and we got weapons around. It's time for him to step up. Wait and IRA. You think that somehow Dak Prescott could eventually be on the table for the Jets? If Donald doesn't prove that he's a franchise Q B No. I think they were drafted for next year and give him another shot, depending on what goes on with coaching situation, But it would be something to entertain. I mean, Prescott, those city open bought it. Um, you know, it wouldn't shock me if the Jets saying, you know, if it is send a pen after here, you know, we were going around with so many quarterbacks. You know, Here's approval committed committed, You know, maybe they would go after pass that I don't know, but I don't think that's an accomplishment. Well after a while, they could franchise and they could franchise him again and then he would hit the open market. I know, And then it's $37.7 million. I mean that you're headed down an IRA. Thanks to the call. I mean, you're headed down a tough path year. Washington already laid this out with you with her cousins. But Washington never wanted to keep her cousin's long term, right. That was never In there in the cards for them, And so if the Cowboys really do want to keep back long term, this is an interesting way to go about it because he's getting really expensive really fast. And if you are going to franchise tag him again, first of all he'll make he'll have made like $65 million or whatever it is, but then I have to Goto. He's going to go to free agency and you're going to be bidding against everybody when you should have had You know the sort of home field advantage, so to speak of trying to get a AH long term deal done. One other thing to keep in mind really fast is that Bill Barnwell from ESPN pointed this out that if the friend if the salary cap in the NFL goes down next year because of covert related things Then that Prescott is taking up even more of a percentage of your salary cap. Something are hovering around the neighborhood of 25% of your cap crazy. It would be good, really in a position to turn down 33 to 35 year with 100 million guaranteed, but that's what dack in his camp did turn down and he's going to play under that franchise. Take. Let's welcome aboard right now. Don Smith met. He plays ah, number of different positions for the Mets. He joins us now. Hey, Don Mark. Melissa. Maggie Gray. Thanks for a couple minutes this afternoon. Oh, no, thank you for having me on hope you gotta save. Obviously, you guys are safe and well And thanks for having me on Yeah. You got a Dharma? Pleasure's all ours. Yeah. How was it? You know the break you know, from for yourself. The break from Spring training to now, summer camp. How did you handle it is a player. Yeah. I mean, obviously, this is the most downtime. A lot of us have had, you know, probably in our whole lives, especially like Me. For instance, I play travel ball since the age of seven. So I haven't had, you know, extended off season like that. And just almost, you know, You know, seven months up like that, you know, Ever So for me, it was. It was pretty good. You did really worked on my body work on my swing his extra time to really get only on little things and really just Work on on things..

"At the the new stadium in Texas and then and then you go from there and and you you keep playing at neutral sites in in dorm stadiums will mean John is thought this through the more you talk about it the more I'm going to hell yeah this is John how do you know what it is we could have we could have baseball which he thinks yeah well listen unprecedented times call for unprecedented thought today and this is like I'm all I'm I'm all ears but I think Peter Gammons had thrown out a couple years ago the idea of when they get to the World Series of turning it into trying like across a Superbowl where they go to a neutral site and make it a week long deal with no travel like you said so I like Vegas or something like that so things like that have been kicked around in in this year would be in listen we're through the Looking Glass now so I'd say all cards on the table man well yeah and also expand the field concert actually there's some pretty good strong dialogue that's being introduced really came out and it is something that's going to be addressed in this new players agreement that bears the current agreement basically meant that the giant or the players and the owners have expires December of two thousand twenty one that is one thing that they're gonna talk about expanding the format of the playoffs are bringing in more teams and perhaps going to fourteen teams and you know I I I this may be the year where they just say well why not when I try now to see how it works what do we have to lose if you lose fifty games or more which it looks like we're going to do why not and in this may be a year with that you can just throw out all the rules and and try a few new things by the way while you're talking I looked up to see has an all star game ever been canceled and it was canceled in nineteen forty five due to wartime travel restrictions surprisingly not forty three or forty four but Mike listen to this Germany surrendered may forty five in somebody propose the idea of holding the nineteen forty five all star game in Germany where the U. S. soldiers could see oh my goodness and they said happy happy Chandler was intrigued by the idea but ultimately military advisers deemed it impractical right I think you mentioned yeah service John Miller S. great yes speaks to our thing a team of any idea here if you're not if you're one of those idea people like John home out there because you because you put it up to our our our listeners in the bay area today and have them via email and text India and get some other ideas as to what other things you might consider going into this year absolutely so the text line is always open and always full of great contributors at four one five eight oh was it policies for one five zero eight five six two seven right that's it well hi tech starting your ideas of what baseball can do to salvage this season but again we don't know when they're coming back to make one of the things we do and you know this last week we did this with the with the game for nationally championship series of eighty seven your complete game which is so fun to watch but we're trying to revisit games it is funny we decided on game four of the two NLCS against the cardinals and then we found out that it wasn't available on you tube so we're just talking about it with highlights only but it was Benito Santiago's homered off a Rick white in the eighth inning anybody remembers that chance from two games to one if they lost that game it would have to go back to Saint Louis and I'm like there's been a lot of home runs hit twenty years there I don't know that's on the short list of the most electric right I mean in in in in what Santiago represented to you know with Farhan was gonna supposedly look at the catching situation all the way up until opening day I think the giants signed Benito late in spring training that year and and what it what a great sort of figure he was in that bonds era here's what their players of all time I mean when we first came into the league I think it was eighty five or six or something with the Padres use rookie of year and right away you were in awe of this guy's physical talent because what we heard we saw this printer is when you see this could throw and we watch we watch we're backed into bridge again feel so we would watch it at different rare that you would watch in field in spring training but we watch it to see this kid from like oh my god this guy can hit up your document to apply to be a pitcher no doubt he was thrown lasers to second base and then the game started and so many channels I forget so we try to steal in the second inning and he threw him out from the knees as the first time I ever saw a guy have that much steam on a throw from the knees when we lose we watchmen in an infield practice standing up like every catcher does but the first time we some those second base trying to get a a would be base runner out he threw I don't know I wish they would have the gun on that thing it was a laser and it was right on the dot uptick who the hell is this guy so he was an intriguing player just from another player's perspective just to watch the athleticism and what we found out what I found out the hard way I mean pitching to him global header and good middle way had a good breaking ball hitter and very early on you had to jam Benito Santiago so you know you watch his career unfold then we get him in two thousand one and but you know but I remember I'm a broadcaster and I think the catcher that we had going up just it was like the last week of spring training was probably just the way he was going to be the guy in an office a branch he brings in Santiago I'm thinking hell yeah I mean this guy's clutches he handles pitchers he's he's a good mobile targets for guy six one he cut a little pitch really well and and then you know he had a good year for the giants who he was he was really good but he there's nobody on this planet cooler than Benito Santiago I am sorry yeah it is not exist the world where he were dressed as the clothes he wore on the plane just the way his demeanor and he was just cool yeah and it was great you know we had a great career and ended up in the one thing this week but I I don't know what he's doing now with the last I heard he was cell owing luxury yachts and in Miami which I think it will hello yeah that's exactly what he had going to that is preferable Friday's gonna come on our show at nine AM so we'll find out yeah yeah he twenty years in the big leagues any debuted Mike as you said when you were still on the giants and so and he went from playing against him to fifteen years later broadcasting and that's crazy wonderful finishing with the pirates in five five time all star in L. C. S. M. V. P. N. two rookie of the year as you mentioned Kirk in eighty seven three gold gloves for silver sluggers in the Padres hall of fame in into confirm you would never seen somebody throw out a runner from niesr somebody done that before him no I've seen that before but I've never seen that with that much steam on it that was a Damascene ever saw because I mean I'm taking this guy get to a batting practice from the knees and consent and do well I mean through his knees we've got the other intentional about Benito Santiago yeah he is Carlos Santana is is is double oh yeah you'll never see those two guys in the same room with the same as an idol of mine yes even made it better that's awesome that is so yeah he's you're right cool dude and what one of one of those yet to get yes he said he probably could have a career on the hill to self well listen we have a lot to catch up on manta Lana baseball topics a lot of fun baseball chat as we get going here and Mike it is great to have you back Monday Wednesday and Friday to good substitute for the play ball lawyers are be good Michael talk ball Wednesday house that Michael Cohen can be are one of four five and six eighty the sports leader my crew go with Matt has been sponsored by four hundred dealers at nor cal Honda dealers dot com K. You know this isn't streaks. As general things thirty. You're thirty. Thirty was a huge accomplishment. Jose could say go. What forty forty and several older players have done it since his attention to be in the first so So we're going to have the first player to hit sixty three games. If anybody passes demise house you wouldn't you hate for it to be fifty seven or for worse yet. I don't know what's worse. Fifty five fifty six fifty seven and then we throw fifty seven out of the the worst the worst of the conversation because then you have new recordholder Ya. XM Radio Joe tape was on the call for the cavaliers. It was it was a December. We were going to an ugly sweater Christmas party which are an ugly Christmas sweater party. Which of course I'd never heard of until that party that we were invited to remember going out to the car for something and catching the overtime overtime period of the cavaliers beating the next? I didn't know it'd be two months before they'd win again. Like mid February twenty six losses in between lead defeating the Knicks and feeding the Los Angeles Clippers. Twenty seven would have been bad. And this is a franchise audacity lost twenty four straight over over the course of two seasons where it's not quite as noticeable but that makes for a very very long time between wins the Cleveland Browns. They lost it lost Seventeenth Street right now at sixteen season and a one hundred fifteen gene season the year before at a two five and one start. They've managed to either first game and win their third game after the sixteen season and they won their second to last game of the one in fifteen seasons that preceded the owed sixteen season so they end up having having that long of losing streak sometimes on these streaks fancies van it gets a little bit gross. It gets a little bit disgusted. We'll talk a little bit more about streaks on the other side. My Name's Jeff Rich. This is sports overnight. America elevator back. I used to love hot days. Can you imagine what, what happened if one of these kids from the days of your one, the smack off, like Carbone, or the Kaplan, Asian and longer in between titles? Then Rick in buffalo, when he can't afford a used car. Now, I'm not saying that high school teachers don't get paid very well. But I am saying that to save money on laundry, richest showers with his clothes on. He's one type pod over his Mellon, another one under his armpits enough third in his mouth for a light snack. And yes clones I'm well aware that tied pod. Jokes about a year and a half to old even for Rick. But I'm pretty sure you could say the same thing about the senior girls in his geography class and Richard. I don't even know why you're here today. You don't need the five thousand dollars. If you were a loved one has been diagnosed with messo Oma, you may be entitled to significant financial compensation and Jim was really nice. Have you to play Mike in India's? Greatest hits. You know, I'm a true student of the game, I always try to pay tribute to those who came before me and blazed, the trail I was apprised who played the call though, because I thought the smack off was supposed to be for callers on the day, but it's your show. You can do whatever you want. I just hope because later so we can find out of his game translates to twenty nineteen and not only that, but Brad to, you know, I respect what he was willing to do to keep the smack off title out of Canada. He slipped into those gimmicky little britches and pranced around his high-voltage backyard. But it didn't take a lot more than a pair of Plum smugglers to bring home, the five K this year, especially with the smack that he left have been running the past few months. We go to Laguna left and Laguna left. What's up? And that much to me, I just want to let you know that Bradley's under power lines out, and then Brad hasn't back with. Yeah. He Jim left here. He's got big ears late. He Jim brand has a small Deng out. I mean this is what passes for smack these days, visa, the last four champions, two guys at a stencil be call each other through you. Am I going to tune into the show and five years and have to listen to Brad call in with? Hey Jim, Brad here. I know that we're out of milk, if he could stop and pick them up on the way home. That'd be great. And I didn't appreciate the beer cans he left in the bathroom, garbage is why we have recycling. But I don't know how many times I have to tell them and it's not about the beer cans and said he never thinks about my feelings and my sister's getting into fourth, and I don't wanna turn into my mother guys quit flirting exchanged numbers already cut the middlemen and leave us out of it in closing. Jim. I'm not gonna sit here and bag. I'm not gonna read you my resume or my pedigree. And you know what already I'm a wonderful person. I'm a wonderful man. I'm one of the best and never do it. I mean, he's not for ten years. I mean, this is kind of the curve of pitchers. I mean, there's total it's totally possible. And did you see the thing about Kelly Jensen pitching? I did I've always gonna make dodger fans mad. I've always found a bit overrated. As a any amount of home runs. He gives up her nine for a closer. It's kind of alarming last year kind of exploded like his home run Ray. But the health reasons had to do with it. I mean, I can understand that. Yeah. I I don't feel he throws hard others. But good today, and I I had in reverse Kelly Jensen caught Clayton Kershaw in triple a ball. Yes. "I I had enough time catching up to the baseball with a normal swing. I don't know how these people were timing it with all these weird intricacies. That would help them time. It just wasn't a good athlete. Barry, Barry Bonds Sheffield did that because his hands were so fast. That's the reason that he had that. Stan. Yeah. Yeah. No. He had to do it. Low down down. His incredible bats beat. It's the stuff of legend, Gary Sheffield. Did you guys love Gary chef, but I want to be clear on this. Because they've got they've got their little guys like Benito, Santiago, Gary Sheffield's, the best Marlon ever is. He not dare, you know, that's not true. Best hitter Miguel Cabrera. The best hitter. The Marlins have ever. No, no, no. But in terms because he was here long who's here longer. Gary Sheffield Cabrera probably Sheffield, Gary Sheffield's, my favorite Marlin. I don't Mike. I think you had different sensibilities growing up because I think it's more. These guys were arrested distraught to Benito, Santiago. I think you actually people hated Sheffield. I mean Stanton on an MVP for the Moreland. So saying yeah sentence, probably I tell them was wanna say young one year want to definitely one of the more talent. And a lot of people didn't like Hanley. But as far as talent I'd say Miguel Cabrera Hanley or that's why I want plant. Hanley playing shorts. Sheffield is a hundred times the player. Hanley was yes hundred Timea player Sheffield should be in the hall of fame is not just because of that bond stuff. Yeah. But Hanley did win that batting title Jeffrey Loria rewarded them appropriately chore, it I would say I it's Gary Sheffield for me is my number one number two is oddly or he can. I still have a cannot can Cantu t shirt baseball reference doesn't even have Sheffield and all time top twelve players for the Marlins. That's not a Cantu. Not at the top. All you want. Another top twelve. I'll give them to you, Dan. And now, you're asking all right. John Carlos Stanton. Okay. Hanley ramirez. This one you're not gonna like Josh Johnson. Louise, castio Dontrelle Willis yelich Cabrera cliff Floyd Uggla, Kevin Brown. No. In terms of it can't be in terms of excellence. Sheffield's the best guy they've ever had. I don't think baseball reference does things in terms of popularity yelich. As more production than Gary Sheffield. I think this is this is based on war. So y'all has an eighteen point six war Stanton's at thirty five point two war. This is done with analytics right here. Gary Sheffield greatest Moreland baseball. I think I'm done with them to. Yes, he was he was so feared he was the best player on they walked them that entire World Series year. He was terrible. And they walked him every time in the World Series and the playoffs because everybody was terrified of him. You remember that catch that he made in Cleveland huge moment in that playoff series as. One of the top five catches and more Orleans history. You would agree top-five catch? Now. Chuck car has probably all tell five catches was incredible nineteen Ninety-three moorlands recap tape, and there was a whole segment based on cars catches and it had like the best nineties music and grabs. Bring in Stanford in Gundy, he's right now eating some sort of egged sandwich. Ask him his opinion here. He's eating an egg sandwich on camera. Just ask him as opinion. 'cause he's going to have opinions on what we're talking about. Your mic is hot. Go ahead, and give us your opinion. Gary Gary Sheffield Marlins we've been talking about like the greatest Marlin ever, go ahead. Hold on. Listen to Billy's list of Marlins who are better than Gary Sheffield. Go ahead and do it. Okay. This is baseball. References lists to be clear, and it's based on war. So Gary Sheffield not in the top twelve for Marlins franchise history. Number one Stanton. Then Hanley Ramirez then Josh Johnson weeks. Castio Dontrelle Willis Christian yelich Miguel Cabrera cliff Floyd, Dan Uggla, Kevin Brown. Mike Lowell Marcelo Cabrera that low. There that long he didn't play there that long..

"Tim Howard is hanging up the cleats after two thousand nineteen MLS season. Cristiano Renaldo has been fine. Twenty one point six million dollars for tax fraud. But we'll avoid prison time after having his two year sentence suspended and finally Jerry's can cause cancer cells to commit suicide. That. Headlines that information during the sportscenter on ESPN radio all throughout the day. Which do you think Stu gods would prefer more to spend two years in prison or give someone twenty one point six million dollars? What that on the ball? It's a great question. Why don't you ask him? Yeah. Just ashtrays in here. I come with thrive in prison. He'd be a vending machine for sex in prison. Well, you guys were thriving. What if we all? I mean, you more than most I would go to prison for two years to get twenty one million dollars. No, you wouldn't you. Don't get it. You don't like you're not getting paid to go to prison. This hypothetical though, I would do that. I mean, two years of prisons twenty one point six million dollars. You wouldn't do that? Are you? I think a lot of people that like, I think Sarah. I'm not aware. What prison is? Oh, I Don prison. I don't think that Cristiano Renaldo would experience prison the same way as we would experience prison if you were to go there, really all your experience in the prison industry allows you to explain how it is anybody would experience, but he'd be a God there. People wouldn't care about me or somebody anyway. Hold on. Very real pretty exactly I'm making fun of it. Because that's never funny. Even if you're in jail, you don't deserve to have that happen to you. I'm just saying he's real pretty that. Either makes them popular and everybody wants to hang out with them. And he's famous or. But you're thinking I'd be able to schmooze my way around. You would thrive because you would be the little prison rat Bernie made on everybody leveraging this you're the fire festival guy of prison if promised this over here, and you've got this guy. Guy over here. Batching for you. And then two years I'm done a man right twenty one. And then everyone's like what happened to that festivals? Do promised us that was gonna be lit put it on the poll. Guillermo, would you make your choice two years in prison, or however, it is you wanna phrase the question you love those fire festival movies? Did you see both of them? Are you you saw the Netflix? I I haven't watched the Hulu one yet. Just netflix. The Netflix one is the better one. But what did you make of that? There were a couple of stories told in there that I've never seen told on television. Well, they just released fanfare had it and have it ready, but they just released the actual pitch doc, like the document that has all the slides that they were using to get investors. And it's it's unfathomable how stupid some rich and connected people are that they can buy this stuff and like not see the Nazi the flaws Nazi the holes. But I think it's fascinating. How people are so angry at the attendees that they're like they deserved it. And I'm like why because they like music festivals. I mean, yeah. Like a lot of them were kind of D bag, but I think they deserve to get flown to an island with no water. And that's because they wanted to be a part of lame festival and everyone likes to laugh at. Ended on an island because daddy bottom. A so they could land party with job. Leaping rule is that it was the ninety one guy that went around trashing other tents because they didn't want neighbors that guy should go to jail too. Because anyone who stuck in? Did you see that part? I I was thinking about the part that most offended me, which is that poor woman who had to go into your own pocket thousand dollars because of how these turns betrayed everyone. Here's a go fund me for her though. It's making thousands of dollars. Will it get to her or whoever's running the go fund me do they have any affiliation whatsoever with the festival and they're just trying to make their own money back? But that was of course, the most upsetting. But then also you've got idiot kids who show up and they realize there's a dearth of resources and their responses. I don't want anyone else sleeping next to me. I'm gonna literally steal all the stuff out of their tent spill water over it and trash rain works. I made me scared. On your mine. What happened? What do you mean brain works like that? Would set fire to everyone else's tend to like scalp tends. They were hurricane. They were. They were FEMA tense. I'm setting fire to the tense while scalping scalping other ten shop setup. Who needs it that? I couldn't figure out who. I hated more. It surprised me how much hatred rose up on me. Judging all of the people in that movie. Well, if you've ever planned an event to what you guys have those mass Miami's weren't you watching it just your skin crawling with like how did they plan on doing this in nine days or how did they not have anyone booked until this day? How is your head Booker twenty two years old and never done anything? Like, this you work. It's crazy. I don't know how this guy got away with what was his name Brian. Because now Hulu who is getting a lot of criticism because who paid this guy the scammer evidently, according to the ring or two hundred and fifty thousand dollars to sit in front of camera be interviewed and not really answer. Anything? Netflix. One involves some of the fire festival people as producers, so they're getting criticized and people are saying the reason they had all that footage is that potentially midway through. They realized it was a disaster started filming everything so that they could at least try to recoup the money on a documentary. Like if you didn't see. See that one guy went to jail. You would totally believe this was a Joaquin Phoenix prank. Right. Where the whole thing was always meant just to make documentary about it. It was all fake, but I don't need to see these now. Well, we gave you the cliff notes that's your entire life. I appreciate it. Chris you were talking earlier about Benito Santiago, and and just loving the idea of Benito Santiago and a bunch of people wrote in at the time saying that there has been no greater name announced by a public address announcer. Then Benito Santiago because of the syllable count, and sort of the flourishes in it. Is there a name better than that? That anyone can think of her name from your guys childhood that you remember I really enjoyed hearing that guy introduced at a baseball game. It was everything about the way was announced though because his number was cool numbers zero Benito, Santiago go and everybody would get into it. And you know, what else was good on the same team Jeff Conan, and it wasn't so much the way his name was announced. It was a little dog sound effect that they would do after they announced his name. It's Dwayne Wade the way Michael be does Dwayne Wade. It's way. I mean, w I was gonna say are actual oral histories about the bulls ninety s bulls announcements becoming like widespread that didn't exist the way it did with that kind of flourish and flair and use right? Chicago started everything I'm just saying in this case, it's actually true that that particular set of on the poll did Chicago invent everything because I think she's right? I think the bulls didn't invent that actually with the music and the the lights the wrong because I I'd like to put it on the pope, and I'd also like to look it up. I think Sarah's right about this. "Because I want to talk to the room about the Andre Dawson story and the generational Gulf around here that frustrates me at every turn. Because people like, Chris, Cody, a don't have any attention span that story is still going, by the way. So Mike, I don't want to become the old timey radio show. That interviews the sixty five year old hall of Famer to tell him stories. But that was a great story, and there's no disputing it. And if a athlete from today was doing it in real time. We would be totally amazed by the balls of Bryce Harper. Yes, he played again again Andre Dawson insulted by the Expos after being their best franchise player, and they offered him a pay cut because the whole bleeping league is colluding. Goes to the cubs and gets an insulting offer more insulting than the last. Because the entire sport is colluding. He accepts the offer. And he thinks that the general manager had the call the Commissioner to make sure it was okay to give Andre Dawson five hundred. It's the biggest star in Expos history. A giant star guy who needs knee replacements now because he never should have been running around on that. Brutal. Astroturf baseball took all of Montreal's money took Montreal's team and just squeezed all all of the money out of Montreal. And they did it to Andre Dawson. And so he gets to Chicago and he signs a blank damn contract. And then he's reluctant to tell you the part. That's the best part of the story. Oh, yeah. By the way, I won MVP. Like if you can't enjoy that story. Well, told over time, you're the idiot. I enjoyed your version LA better. Yep. You told the better last placed team, by the way debatable whether or not he deserved that MVP now. I mean, how can you be the most valuable player in the league for a team that finishes and last love you hawk? What are your thoughts there and Andre Dawson story quicker quicker? But I like the hawk I used to have a flag that was signed by Andre Dawson played for the Marlins hall of Famer Andre Dawson, and then it got damaged. So I don't have that flag anymore. But I'm not gonna ask him. He signed a new flag for me seemed a little scared while you were talking. Andre Dawson, were you intimidated, there is a lot going on. There was a lot of noise guys decided that was a good time to start screaming over the speaker. What was he saying? Do you? Remember was it something important or was it just to God's telling you what he thinks about something that's irrelevant. It's really important if you just play defense against everybody around here. So what was happening? You're talking to your hero in stugatz is asking for your opinion on something. And I'm trying not. I don't wanna insult the man. But it's phone line was terrible. The first time he called him. But I don't wanna tell him. Andrea need a better phone line. Because the man's a hall of fame not going to tell them. He knows about phones he's a hall of Famer or so I didn't tell them to get a new phone line. And then, you know, got to screaming couldn't hear a thing. He was saying I was again. Yeah. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Of course hawk has a landline. Not surprising. I was asking Billy. If he thought if the Lakers championship if they've picked up Mark assault. The worst what's wrong with that. The worst. It's well what's wrong with that? Is that people are working? I don't think they would. That's just me though. So you're talking Andre Dawson. Was there any hero worship or any of that stuff? If you've got a flag that you're still thinking as an adult you want him to sign there's a little bit of hero worship. There is they're not. This is my biggest hero. My biggest. Here's Benito Santiago had a signed. Poster. Appease said, thou shalt not steal. And he was standing up, and he was throwing someone out and his mask was flying in the air, which is rare. Because as you know, he used to throw people off from his knees. But in this one was crouching was throwing and they got all messed up. I don't have that anymore. Mine was arrested Estrada had like thing on my door where it's like the the skid row chart the growth. Yeah. Had one of those. You know, what I've found the other day I found to baseball signed by Craig counsel. Wow. I don't know. Why would need his autograph twice? Yeah. So one of those giveaway or something, I don't know. I also found a ball that I couldn't tell I I need to keep track while I'm not getting autographs anymore. But when children I need to keep track somehow of Hussein the ball because you really can't read autographs anymore. Billy went to my mother's house. The other day to go through her stuff. Just to see what was available from the nineteen Ninety-three Marlins team. He basically bothered my mother to do a personal yard sale took it all. Did you get? I was supposed to be for ROY. And Chris what happened on its online? Dan. You don't offer me Marlins memorabilia from ninety three to ninety five and think that's making it to anybody else. I wasn't able to get there by tampering. I was very happy about that gave me declare. What was the highlight peace there, though? Man, I found playoff tickets from the ninety seven season which I had found like a nineteen. I remember I remember that those tickets are such a sore spot for me because everyone thinks I've got a bunch of elves that just are in a closet to produce tickets for the major sporting events and somebody asked me in my neighborhood to get a couple of World Series tickets against the Yankees, the most crowded World Series crowds you've ever seen. And he asked me at the last minute a neighbor, and I got them for him. And then when I brought them to him. He didn't like the seats enough. Name was Greg Cody could have been you don't tell me that you weren't capable of that the way you got spicy Springsteen on Broadway stuff was distasteful. I miss tickets. You could camp out for big event you'd have to go with a tent if the wait for them to go on sale, and you'd have the cooling now. It's like every ticket place has the tickets the days before the even you didn't use to do that. Oh my God. When. Never Monday night. Nitro was coming to town. I would be at that Sears ticket Massoud dollars get out of here. Get out of here. I was gonna say ten minutes ago at second row for the boss. Upset when he didn't sign anything. You're subset that other people on net. Flicks. You're upset that other people on net. Flicks. Get to the show after you because you came to your way into good tickets. I'm the bras the boss on Broadway guy for free. It's not fair. I mean, the boss should be ashamed of themselves. You are foul and despicable. This is the.

"benito santiago" Discussed on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz

"I I was thinking about the part that most offended me, which is that poor woman who had to go into our own pocket thousand dollars because of how these turds betrayed everyone. There's a go fund me for her though, it's making thousands of dollars. She's going to let will it get to her or whoever's running the go fund me do they have any billion whatsoever with the festival on they're just trying to make their own money back. But that was of course, the most upsetting. But then also you've got idiot kids show up and they realized there's a of resources and their responses. I don't want anyone else sleeping next to me. I'm gonna literally steal all the stuff out of their tent. Spill Waddell over and trash rain works out. Man me scared for your apocalypse of mine. What happened? What do you mean brain works like Like that? that would set fired everyone else's tend to like scalp tend they were hurricane ten. They were they were FEMA tense. I'm setting fire to the tense while scalping, that's right along scalping other tents shop setup. Yeah. Who needs it? I couldn't figure out who. I hated more. It's the prized me how much hatred rose up on me. Judging all of the people in that movie. Well, if you've ever planned event to what you guys have those moss. Miami's weren't you watching it just your skin crawling with like how did they plan on doing this nine days or how did they not have anyone booked until this day? How is your head Booker twenty two years old and never done anything like this should work? Like, it's crazy. I don't know how this guy got away with it. What was his name Brian? Because now Hulu Hulu is getting a lot of criticism because who pay this guy, the scammer evidently, according to the ring or two hundred fifty thousand dollars to sit in front of camera be interviewed and not really answer anything, and the Netflix one involves some of the fire festival people as producers, so they're getting criticized and people are saying the reason they had all that footage is that potentially midway through. They realized it was a. Zastava started filming everything. So that they could at least try to recoup the money on documentary. Like if you didn't see that one guy went to jail. You would totally believe this was a Joaquin Phoenix prank. Right. Where the whole thing was always meant just to make documentary about it. It was all fake. But village, I don't need to see these now. Well, that we gave you the cliff notes that's your entire life. Reshi? It Chris you were talking earlier about Benito Santiago, and and just loving the idea of Benito Santiago and a bunch of people wrote in at the time saying that there has been no greater name announced by public address announcer. Then Benito Santiago because of the syllable count, and sort of the flourishes in it. Is there a name better than that that anyone can think of their name from your guys childhood that you remember I really enjoyed hearing that guy introduced at a baseball game? It was everything about the way was announced though because his number was cool numbers zero nine the need to Santi go and everybody would get into it. And you know, what else was good on the same team Jeff Cohn, and it wasn't so much the way his name was announced. It was the little dog sound effect that they would do after they announced his name. So now number nineteen Jeff co nine it was great. It was. So good dog. I'll just leave their well. We're a little biased down here so minds. Also what you wanna? No, you can do crappy. Nineties Marlins baseball. It's fine. Where am I m e show when nineties baseball are soft spot? I thought everyone knew that the one that for me. It's not a baseball player. It's twain Wade the way Michael be does twain, wait. It's does away way. The me from dealer w I was gonna say are actual oral histories about the bulls ninety s bulls announcements becoming like widespread that didn't exist the way it did with that kind of flourish and flair and Muser, right? Chicago started everything I'm just saying in this case, it's actually true that that particular set of per on the poll, Chicago invent everything because I think she's right? But dammit bias doesn't show every time. She speaks. I was just interrupting your bias about Miami with my own bias about Chicago..
