"But there's reports that could be. some of. These members are actually abroad vacationing. So the politics of this. I think are turning negatively towards the democrat. So gonna have to find a new way to be able to get the edge on this. They cannot stay away forever. I think that begins to hurt their ability to negotiate towards a a reasonable settlement. Here there are though of course limitations. On how far that can go so i think politically that. The most important i watch here is the speaker of the house. He has gone a little bit far to say that he's gonna punish people who didn't stay in austin but also he has to balance because he still needs their votes to be speaker and that fact is that that has to be balanced as it has been you know texas political history. So there are i think a lot of moving parts here ultimately fad. Put money on. I'd say you're probably gonna find a quorum. But i don't know that you're going to see a substantial and of quorum that you were going to be able to have a few of those members decide that they're just gonna leave and and disrupt the proceedings on meantime back in congress. Where do things stand with. The infrastructure. bill is going to be well. I mean it's it's moving one way or the other. Well now wait a minute. Moving one way or the other could mean. It's moving forward or backwards hockley. And that's you know that's a political climate right that we live in. Today we have Center cinema center mentioned Being very important players The news media has reported Senator cinema eastern awaits It's like by her republican colleagues. Not very much like by the more progressive wing of the democratic party. So they're trying to move forward something that is palatable to both republicans and democrats that have very complicated balancing act and the real question or the real culprit. Or you know the the the the the monster behind the scenes ease. Phillip austin at the end democrats are trying to pursue Getting rid of the field so they can move their agenda forward. That said brandon. We've been hearing that for quite some time. Now as their point at which it just feels more like an empty threat if if the democrats don't try and push that through. Yeah i thought that was gonna make a transportation joke when you said that things were moving at this. So i'll make the joke is dead. But i think he's right. I mean there's a lot of back and forth on this right. We joke about infrastructure week right. The president trump talked about four years ago. And now we're gonna finally infrastructure week. Broadly defined but It's gonna be. I think a something ultimately it will pass. The part of the story is of course a filibuster like you say and the other part is that they have to engage in reconciliation with the rest of the things that the democrats want to spend money on. So it's really kind of a one two punch in the problem is if you don't land in a job then you can't land the cross and so for most of the democrats. They need for this. Bipartisan effort to work. And i think for democrats you know. They're gonna get what they want. Some of them are going to be vilified as As you said in toronto that but the republicans also to want to be able to say they've got some credit here because they can't go back and say that they just said no to everything..

"The recent rise of cova was also the justification governor. Abbot cited in his executive order calling on state troopers to stop vehicles suspected of transporting migrants a federal judge. El paso tuesday issued a temporary restraining order. Stopping the governor from carrying it out a justice department attorney argued into hearing monday that the governor was unlawfully creating his own quote immigration regime. Usurping the federal government Brandon did the governor really think this was going to fly or was this just more red meat for the conservative base in reelection campaign. You know it's a good question making a little bit. Both is clear that the governor is trying to play to the right here and it's been a pretty consistently home to tune by the governor and his office but Obviously there were also issues. Here that the governor would like to be able to put back into texas camp they wanna be able to stay there insurance immigration policy because that lets them have more control over what happens and that gives them a political issue but to be honest even in losing the issue. They can still win politically because to show that they are taking on the federal government. Let's the base note that day care about the issue. Even if they don't win her animals. We were discussing with judge. George just a few minutes ago. Ford ben county raised its covert threat level and the judge wants county employees. We so and also be found out More than ninety percent of hospitalized patients on not vaccinated ninety six percent.

"The dynamo season starts with a win. The astros snap losing streak then lose again the rockets well not to mention it. Stick around is houston matters continues. The houston astros ended the weekend. One game below five hundred. After sunday's seven two loss to the seattle mariners. The astros had lost six straight prior to win. Saturday is this just about those five astros and covert protocol. Leaving the team shorthanded or is this early bump in the road. A sign of things to come this season for the stroz. Let's ask jeff bulky from houston and houston press. good morning. Jeff gordon craig. Should we be concerned about the astros. Yeah i think so. You know they are going to get these guys back from covid protocol and it's going to help them in the field. I mean that the biggest one of the biggest issues. They've had a over the past. Few games has been you know scoring runs. And that's going to be help when you get guys like goes l. to your don alvarez back but there are some other concerns for the team early on you know Kyle tucker has not been hitting. Well they try out the leadoff spot. He did not do he. Only i think when seven so he's not employable early in the season to the bigger concern is really Pitching one of the things. That was a concern. Going in was they were going to need innings from their starters and they haven't gotten that Release cranky has provided them a long starts and then you have the bullpen which they have four guys on isle currently who they could use and joe smith has been kind of an unmitigated disaster. Not what they were hoping for when they brought him back after his year off from you know declining to play because of the covid so right now they have some they have some issues in the bullpen. And some on the mound as well and these are things that i think most people were concerned about going into the season so it shouldn't come as a big surprise but it is certainly something that we're going to need to be watching the houston. Dynamo opened their regular season with a victory friday to one over the awkwardly named san jose earthquakes. I don't care for the s. On the end i think they should just be the quick. I like that anyhow. The houston dash the houston dash..

Of course we live in in houston so allergies are in always present issue with so many dogs So yeah it is common and there are things that can be done Excitement can definitely exacerbate see Using a harness instead of a leash and collar when walking throughout the things that can be done to help mitigate it. It'll never go away completely. But we certainly when he keeps me comfortable. That you mentioned allergies and i think there are some dogs and i would imagine beagles among them that have an especially high perception of sense of smell detect. Just about everything that's out there. It does that mean that they are also maybe potentially at risk for for more issues related to allergies out it it kind of goes with the territory of but who knows what these dogs are nipping up through their noses and breathing in as well. They can beat urinating right marina. Good luck best wishes for your dog. We go next to michael sugar. Land michael. what's what's your question. Good morning thank you for taking my call sure I have a sixteen year. Old miniature pinscher and her quality of life i feel has really declined over the last couple of years due to cataracts We took her to the head and she's really good health and i just wish there was an option for her. That didn't cost me five or six thousand dollars Something if we could do if there's a financially feasible way of getting these correctly to improve this dog's forty of life yes cataract surgery and i don't know what the price on it is. And of course different ophthalmologists have different pricing on it But typically that's the only way to resolve that particular issue Wichita they they don't have to drive cars and renews papers and things like that so you can just remove cataracts. You don't have to remove those and of course you want to know that the dog is visual meaning that the retinas work behind the cataract for. There's testing that has to be done. I am of course if you remove the cataracts and the dog is still blind. It's not really going to matter Most dogs compensate well for lack of vision so it may be worth finding out if there's another reason why your dog quality of life has deteriorated Whether there's a another underlying condition Cognitive dysfunction which is a form of dementia in dog and can cause a decrease quality of life Arthritis or pain. Dogs are really good at masking that but that could come across the decreased quality of life as well so it may be worth exploring some other options. I if all those things are ruled out then looking calling from different veterinary ophthalmologists and getting price on what it would be to get a cataract removed. Thanks very much for that call. We appreciate it. Dr lori keller is a veterinarian with the land animal clinic and clinical associate professor in the college of veterinary medicine and biomedical sciences at texas. "I understand the same. Could be said for our pets. Yes this is true. Obesity cinna problem and pets for a long time but it has been greatly exacerbated by the pandemic of people working from home getting forward going to get their snack Lunch at home and somehow little tidbits keep making it into our pets now and then. They're wearing it around their. How could that possibly happen. I don't understand. I thought that food was meant for us somehow. Strangely our dogs and cats are eating it too. Are you know they make those those sad little puppy dog. You katy cat faces and people just can't resist letting them a little by please sir. I want some more. So what what can we do. Obviously aside from maybe not feeding. It's from the table. A good chunk of whatever it is that we've we've made for ourselves. What else can we do to encourage a better diet and exercise and try and reverse any trends towards pet obesity. Absolutely first recognizing that obesity is a pretty significant risk factor for other health concerns in our pets. Heart disease joint disease Similar to being that can affect people when they are overweight Getting getting moving If the beginning of the pandemic people were getting out walking their dogs more because it was their only break from the monotony of being stuck in the house as they're getting back and then have been that and this may require actual diet change in our pet. Just some of the foods meant to help promote weight loss. And then recognizing that tree and supplemental goodies should make up. No more than ten percent of our pets diet and Making sure there's three appropriate reduction in food intake to compensate for that ten percent of goodies and trees. This is houston matters. He does have a chronic cough and sometimes hacks and it's just it happens a lot when he's active and Like i said we took an into a He got he's been taking hydrocortisone for a year. A very controlled substance and. I'm just wondering if there's anything else i can do for him. Well i would certainly follow up with an and see if they have other thoughts because there may be additional medication To the doggone and some of it depends on what the underlying causes is it a collapsing. Trachea is that heart issue. Is it asthma or allergies. Things like that Hydra koto has really good costs but sometimes it's even better it's used in conjunction with other medications and so i would certainly recommend reaching back out to the doctor at texas. Am that saw your dog and see if there's something else you can use in combination Depending on the underlying problem that could be something called sarandia. it could be an histamine There are a lot of different choices than sometimes. It takes a multi modal approach to resolve the issue. Is this something. That is common in older beagles..

"With houses going so quickly mean you said that the average went from sixty to forty five days or something like that i mean. How do people know. They're making the right choice. If you don't have a lot of time to think about it right like you have to see a house and then say okay. We like it enough. We're going to put an offer on it within a day right. That's what i tell them. You got be ready to jump on literally you gotta pound sunday. There's just no more let me sleep on it or let me think about it or let's let's talk about this now you've got pounded right away because otherwise that makes the difference between looking still looking at amenable to get under contract. That's our job as realtors is supposed to be to help the buyer not avoid These situations because many of these situations are unavoidable. But we have to manage your expectations. We have to manage their their their their psyche. Ender mentality and their attitude because some of them will continue the fight until la. Find the right house others will off from. Fortunately what are the sellers looking for like. What's the sweet spot deal that that makes a seller. Say okay. i'm gonna take this one. I'm gonna take this offer. What are what are some of the things that that make them. Were willing to do that. Many of them will take the highest offer simply because you know the biggest profit but others are taking a cash. Value values cash offers. The we were saying a lot of cash offers on the market from investors outside of the state of texas vistors from massachusetts new york california and they have deep pockets and they have cash so they're offering cash even though they go a little bit higher than the asking price. Some of them are going higher than others. Another's are waving their their the appraisal to be able to get more leverage in their offers. There's all sorts of creative things that a lot of buyers doing but what. I see most the most successful. Bathes are the cash bids. What about other things like option period earnest money is that a lot of influence or does it not matter so much depends on the center. Some sellers will say well. Okay this guy is offering me a ten the option period and he's paying two hundred dollars for this other one has died so it means that the seller puts his house off the.

"It's kinda kind of more than i expected to be doing. Ever thank you. Michael and now to talk a little more about the realities of the market. I'm joined by richard. Miranda the 2021 houston association of realtors chairman and a realtor with keller williams platinum record. One of the takeaways from the march report is this big lack of inventory. What's behind that. It is a vicious circle or a self-perpetuating if you talk to a sailor or you don't the homeowner today and you pump them by putting the house on the market. They're going to say no. I can't i don't have a place to go to and this has been going on for quite some time. And that's why i think it would be insane. Our inventory dropped steadily every month as allies few years because most sellers are not going to thank you not while where they sell my house. I know to get a lotta money. But where am i going to go live. And there's a lot of builders that are also selling properties like crazy and that's what usually a lot of existing homeowners would do. They would go buy to buy into a new brand new subdivision or a brand new house because it had more room in had it had a game room for kids. You know the the kobe that's important. They had a space for their offices because forty percent of the labor force is working out of their asses today so they're looking for a larger space and unfortunately we can't find because there's no inventory so it's bersell perpetuating certainly of you will buyers are out there going crazy because the interest rates are still low historically low there. What do i three point. Five three point seven. That's still a heck of a lot lower than it was some years ago when you were talking. Interest rates of seven eight percent. So that's what the that's right. A lot of the buyers to buy houses now before they get out of reaching the interest rates. Go up then. You talked about new subdivisions new construction. What what are we seeing as far as new construction versus resale. Is there a lot of construction going on right now. There is actually faces that builders used to build inventory and then sell those off as buyers came by. They're not doing that anymore. They're selling the dirt and guess what you've got to make an appointment to go see a developer builder. They're going to. They're going to ask you to call ahead of time. Set up an appointment and then come in there and they'd get prequalified. This is what's happening right now. A lot of these developers a lot of these builders are bringing the buyers but the rest of them will we gotta get you prequalified for its otherwise run. Even talk to you. That's how picky. They're getting to be most of the homes that are being built in. Today's new areas have already been sold. Are there parts of the region that are seeing a lot of real estate activity right now as it kind of all over. What are you seeing montgomery county. There's suburbs mostly montgomery county at cyprus and katie of course. Those are the three fastest growing areas in the houston metropolitan area. Kind of taking all of this..

"I think that it's probably still advantage. Trump. I expected to carry Texas by three or four point, but I also expect him to lose nationally. What do you Why do you say that? Well, uh, they're they're just a massive amount of information out there Polling in particular on Texas, but also on on the rest of the country and in Texas. There had been a couple of Poles. Most recently, The Dallas Morning News and UT Tyler had a poll that had that had Biden by three or four points in Texas. I just don't believe that most of the other polls show Trump to be up narrowly meaning 234 points and I I think that calm Paris, Texas by three or four points But there are pockets all over Texas that are far more competitive than they used to be. Most of those are in the suburbs that the ring of suburbs around the The northern part of Dallas and southwest of Houston, Fort Bend County, Williamson County that sort of thing where Democrats are much more competitive. So while Trump I think will carry Texas on Tuesday I think Democrats will pick up two or three US House seats, and they're going to make a run at the nine seats. They need to take majority control of the Texas House. I'm not sure how close still get But they'll pick up a few teaching The Texas House nine is a little bit of a stretch, but it's going to be a very mixed bag on election day in Texas for both parties. We all know that the polls were wrong in 2016. What makes us think that they should be right this time around. Well of every time. So just think about yourself. If you did something wrong, you try to correct that you'd try to figure out what you did wrong and make adjustments, Which is what The pollsters have done so it's unlikely that they'll be wrong in the same way they could be wrong in in 2020 a CZ well, but they won't be wrong in the same way and they won't be wrong in the same places. So my assumption is that on election night if you want to know what's going on Watch Florida if Trump holds Florida Then you want to stay up and see what happens in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. And if he's got two out of those three, then you look to Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, where Biden is up in all of those states, but a Biden were to take Two out of three of Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania. You, Khun, Go to bed. Does. The rest of the country is pretty much divided between blue and red on. Biden has some advantages in places that Democrats have not normally had advantages. Arizona being the most obvious case where My guess is up by three or four points. Arizona has been a Republican stronghold for a long time. Last thing I'd say is that Hillary Clinton was up by about half a cz much A CZ. Biden is up right now. Back in 2016. So in a race where Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 2.5 Trump could one win the Electoral college. If Biden is up six or seven points, there is no path through the electoral College for Himto win. Alright, quickly count. I think it's arguably even more important than the presidential race would be the U. S. Senate. How do you see that breaking down? Yeah, I think corn and is re elected to the U. S senate. He's been very subtly up by about eight points. Their was a fascinating story in AA. And I guess Well, yeah, Dallas Morning is this morning about the amount of money, race and Senate races around the country and usually Texas? Incumbent senators and challengers can raise a lot of money that they were right in the middle of the pack. Far more money being raised in South Carolina and Iowan and unexpected places like that. I think that corner and hold that seat fairly comfortable. Yeah, But what about the Senate? Over all the makeup of Congress? Is it if they if the Republicans lose the White House, where they also going to lose the Senate Yeah, that's going to be that's going to be very close. I do think it It is more likely than not. The Democrats take control of the Senate and the states that you look at for that. Would be Susan Collins in Maine. The Arizona seat that Mark Kelly Cabral, Gabby Gifford's husband is contesting is very likely to go to to the Democrats. North Carolina Thom Tillis has been down by two or three points if they lose that, and Biden winds Kamala Harris within preside. In the Senate. You would be tied, but I think you also watch Joanie Ernst in Iowa. Very, very close Race. Iowa should be Republican. Hard to know how that one is going to go. There's a woman named Greenfield, who is running very close to Jody aren't so it's It's going to be a nail biter. I expect Democrats control it by one or two seats at the end of the day. Maybe a few news time is coming up on 6 28. We'll have another check of our traffic and weather in just a moment on the W. P A P. Sunday morning news, the Randy Williams and then more news and sports of the day with Dennis Martin. This is Mark 11. This election may be extraordinarily close. And so I don't want people to get himself. You know, I could have. What if it's too late? It's too late. Mark.
