"Episode ninety six the NFL draft in NFL draft. Show and also. I'm GonNa talk a lot about recruiting flipping recruits and just a recruiting process. Because obviously the situation that went on with Ohio State and Oklahoma. The past week is of note. And I don't follow recruiting religiously. I'm not one of those people you can go to to get all the insider tips. I don't talk to recruits. I don't want to. It's it's too big of a pain in the ass to waste your time trying to build those relationships all to be the breaking news so and so's going to commit. I'm good because when situations come up like this I can give you insight into how it went down and what happened better than anyone because I know the parties involved. I know I know the game. I know the process. I know recruiting. So we're gonNA talk about that. I'm GONNA have Johnny Unser for scarlet and great come on because he is someone that follows all of that he's GonNa come on and and Kinda just feed me the information I don't know and we're GonNa have a nice conversation about it and we're GonNa talk about the NFL draft a little bit so before we get to Johnny. I want to talk about the draft right big draft. I mean of loaded draft and what I'm most excited about. Obviously Joe Boroughs GonNa go number one. It's already been announced already been discussed and I think that's I mean as as he should. He had the best season of in the history of college. Football at the quarterback position. How do you not take him number? One overall and only Cincinnati or the browns only in Ohio team could screw that up which they didn't but I was holding my breath hoping that they didn't so Joe Boroughs GonNa go number one. I think that is the only other option as a franchise quarterback. You're people talk about the quarterback position and it's my opinion that and this goes back to bill belichick. Bill Belichick believes. You should take a quarterback every year in some form or fashion whether it's a free agent whether it's late draft pick whether it's an early draft pick. You take a quarterback every year because that is the most critical position and then the Patriots arguably. You've had the best success at quarterback because obviously they had Tom Brady but the reality is they also brought in some primetime. Backups that they evaluated loved they played in pre season played when Brady got hurt. Maybe and then. They became a big big contract quarterbacks and it was all because the check system believes that. You take a quarterback every year. Because if you don't have a quarterback you are screwed in that really in any league at any level and so I think this is a year. Where you at? There's two franchise quarterbacks and then there's some guys that are raw that that that don't look like franchise quarterbacks but with some coaching development might turn into something Everyone I think everyone knows my opinion. Justin Herbert I think he has a very very strong arm. Great arm talent. I don't believe he's a big time. Nfl quarterback at all. I would not. I would not draft him if I was any team. In the first three rounds he's the guy had taken the fourth fifth round which that's obviously not going to happen because the NFL just loves big arm talent but the quarterback position is so much more than arm talent. It is competitive nature. It is leadership it is that Moxie that swagger that drew brees. Has You watch him and see him in the huddle he commands the huddle and he he has the will to win the game right. That is the quarterback position. That's what Joe Borough showed all year. That `it factor that swagger that big Dick Joe Energy. That's what he had. That's what he brought to has it too. I met two when I was in Tuscaloosa. He has that aura about him that that almost like out of body experience that Holy Shit. This kid has it. The IT factor. And that's what has I don't believe Justin. Herbert has that jalen hurts his interesting. He can't throw well enough for the NFL. But Lamar Jackson is not a great thrower either. He's not an accurate thrower. But he's a baller and that's where the NFL has started to accept that type of quarterback now. Because let me look at a year. Lamar head JALEN HURTS US. That type of player very different player from Tamar. But he's that type of player. He's a dynamic player. A dynamic runner an okay thrower and his pro day. I'm going to be honest. I watched this day. His the film is not a pro day. I don't know what you call it. His workout I watched it. It was very very impressive. He threw the ball very well. So there's something there if I was gonNA take a flyer on a guy late I take a flyer on. Jalen hurts because he has a different skill set than anyone else in the draft. That we're talking about very different Jake from I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. You talk about the intangibles that a quarterback should have he has. He doesn't have him that Moxie. The only thing he does have is an excuse right. He had no receivers. None didn't Lawrence Cager was the one right and he got hurt. So that's the. The Guy thinks intriguing. At the quarterback position is Jordan. Love I think Jordan love has the best chance to be that smaller school quarterback that emerges but anyways I really want to talk about the receivers. I just wanted to give my opinion on the quarterbacks. Because it's a quarterback league and it's GonNa be interesting to see where guys some teams and I mentioned this. I've mentioned this a couple of times. This year's draft is so unique because the NFL decision-makers. Let's call it whether it's the head coach the GM the player personnel department the decision makers when it comes to draft lost out on two months of evaluation tools that is pro days that is in person visits and I've told the story before one on one. Workouts are critical at a place like Ohio state. You'll have a team coming up when the cowboys came in when they drafted your. They drafted Zeke Elliott. They brought almost their whole staff. They came in for a day and worked out like ten of our players that were going going to be in the draft because they wanted to evaluate you know they liked those ten and they wanted hands on evaluation. That's critical in this process. And then you get him to come down and visit you learn so much about their character. They're trying to do it on zoom and shit like that ain't going to replicate it so you're going to see more MRS in this draft and more diamonds in the rough a guy like me Harrison if you can get him mid to late rounds my goodness that the ceiling on that kid is extraordinary. And I've already mentioned it. Cage Hill should be in my opinion. A second round pick. Maybe I would say a first round pick. He's got it all. He's got the hand size ball skills body efficiency. He's intelligent so I would have projected him a second round pick now when he goes in the third round or whatever he's going to go in. I will attribute that to this two month break and another guy is Austin Mac. Austin Mac is an NFL receiver. And I know I'm close to home for me because these are my guys but Austin Mac is an NFL receiver he's GonNa have an NFL career. He just fell victim to a couple injuries. Nothing major minor injuries. That kind of dinged him up and then a lack of stats and so those two months that he lost were critical. But here's what I really want to talk about. I don't know people are talking about this. Alabama has to the top three receivers in this draft. Jerry Judy and Henry Rugs. And what's wild is. They have two of the best receivers in the country returning at Alabama. So they have their four ridiculous receivers so when but therefore ridiculous receivers and I think it's just the two and four ridiculous receivers and a good defense. It's shocking to me that they had the year they had. They were in the playoffs. They weren't in the conversation. They dropped the ball. It's just it's crazy but they were loaded loaded at receiver and I think Jerry Jones the first out the board. He should be best player in bless receiver in the draft. And he he he. He is the complete receiver. He's not a great deep ball. Receiver nine of twenty two on deep balls. He Ed seven th the only thing you say. He had seven drops. That's his biggest. Knock seven drops this year. Three of them were against Lsu. Obviously but you look at how he ended the year six catches two hundred four yards and a touchdown against Michigan in the bowl game. That is he put on his. It was his curtain call right. It was his draft resume game and I know it was Michigan. I know it was a kind of an insignificant bowl but he played in it that that comes into account to the other guys. Cd LAMB CD lamb. I think those are the two those two and Henry. Rugs are the best receivers in the draft right. Those three and those are the three that I would look to go very very early. So in my opinion it's going to go judy CD lamb Henry rugs now Henry. Rugs is my favorite receiver in the draft. Because he's almost six foot. Almost one ninety went four to seven in the forty. And I've mentioned this before. Ten eight INCH HANDS. That's really important. Bigger than just Jefferson. Bigger THAN CD LAMB bigger than Jerry. Judy bigger than Michael Pittman. Who is a monster receiver? So I believe the Henry. Rugs will be the best player to come out of this trap because he is like John. Ross but actually a good receiver right. He has the explosives explosion and speed of John. Ross but he actually is a good player and runs good routes and has good ball skills. So he's going to be the steel the draft. I don't care if he goes twelfth overall. I think that is. He's that's a steal at that pick but I think Gerry Judah top seven top eight pick CDROM at Henry Roger. Right there the other two that I absolutely love outside of my Ohio State guys are just a Jefferson and t Higgins. Now t higgins the biggest. Knock on T. Higgins. Right now. Was He had three drops in the College Football playoff to against Lsu but only six on the year so that was kind of poor timing to have those drops but he's such a dynamic player for three years. I love t higgins. I love his length. I love his size. I love how how fluid he runs. And obviously you how can you? How can you leave out? Justin Jefferson ridiculous ridiculous ridiculous year. I think he had the most production of anyone in the draft. Right one hundred seven catches one thousand five hundred forty yards eighteen touchdowns absurd absurd so those are the guys. I love the two to note also. Cd LAMB is. He didn't have just one year. I mean he had thirteen hundred yards. Sixty two catches. He had a great year. But this this kid had the most production out of all of my top ten receivers. He had three almost thirty three hundred receiving yards in his career at Oklahoma. So I'm really excited to see where all those guys fall. I mean and also talking about the steal of the draft. I think Austin McKay J Hill and Donovan. People's Jones are going to be the best value later in the draft. And then the guy that I haven't talked about as much as Ben Victor Ben. Victor is a freaky freaky freaky talent. He just didn't develop he was coming on. I left Ohio state and is not a knock on hotline. He just he just never came to fruition into the player that everyone expected and hoped him to be. He got better. He improved but he just didn't have the year that I thought he would have ever in his career right. I thought at one point he was just going to become an absolute dominant force like a CD lamb type of year. That never happened. But he's got the skill set. He's so long. He has a wingspan. He can catch the ball. He is extremely fluid for a taller. Receiver really excited about about him. The other the other position I'm really excited about is the running back position. I mean you talk about De'andre Swift Jonathan Taylor. Jk Dobbins. Those are the top three in the draft to me. Zach Mosit- UTAH. I like but the guy that I think so. You want to know my steal of the draft at the running back. Position is camakers camakers. Five ten almost two twenty rent a four four tend to broad and the only reason. He's not a first round running back or a top two round running back is he was at Florida state and they were fucking terrible. That offense align was terrible. That run game was terrible. The whole program was in disarray. This kid is a big time back. And he's GonNa go late. That's a guy because I don't believe in drafting a running back in the first round. Unless he's a generational talent hall of. Famer Ezekiel Elliott Saquon. Barkley those guys. I would take in the first round outside of that. I don't know that I'm taking any of those. I'm not taking Jonathan Taylor. Jackie Dobbs Andrea Swift in the first round. If I'm an NFL GM. I'm not I would much rather have camakers in the Fourth Round. Then those three in the first round if that makes sense because the running back position is so kind of wishy washy so fragile. The shelf life of a running back is so short. So I'll be really interested to see him and Clyde Edwards Larry from Lsu had a great year and then how about Aj. Dylan the running back from Boston..

NFL Ohio Lsu Jerry Jones Joe Boroughs Football Justin Herbert Oklahoma JALEN Judy bigger bill belichick Justin Jefferson GM Jonathan Taylor Johnny Unser Michigan Cincinnati Tom Brady Ohio State Patriots

"This game was a field field position game and the difference in have showed how critical three phases working cohesively is to a team success in huge games. I mean offense gets the two first downs. The punt team has a great point zero return yards. The defense holds. Pump block can move your checkers closer and closer to the opponent's end zone. That is the name the game. That's how you win big games. Your offense doesn't need to score every drive. It'd be nice. Everyone would like it but just get to first downs. That's twenty yards now you punt it forty thirty five yard net now. That's you just change the field sixty five yards if you can get a three and out or stop on. Don't let them get the same two first downs. Now you've just created thirty thirty a yard differential. You keep doing that consistently you're GonNa win the game and that's what happened in the first half Ohio state started their average drive on the twenty two yard line their own twenty two in the second half on their own forty almost midfield that is eighteen yards per drive in hidden yardage in the second. Half that is one hundred eight yards yards just in the second half gained just in the field position battle in the second half over the first half. That is huge. That is legitimately think about it. That's like saying all right. We're going to roll out this other player. That's going to get one hundred eight yards in the second half force and help us win this game. That's what the team element of the game. Did Wisconsin their average starting field position in the second half was the twenty one. We'll have state was on the forty. They were on the twenty one their own twenty one. That is massively important but talking about Ohio state's offense it's showed it's ass again and I've been critical of it. No one likes to talk about it. Everyone who wants to talk about this is the best offense line the best team. Best this no flaws blah blah blah. That's not been true through ever all year not once and I've said it every show I've been honest I've called out what needs improve. What's not playing well? WHO's not playing well but people don't WanNa talk about it? But these I listen to some of these other shows and analysts listen Buckeye fans and it's like I mean I don't see a weakness on the whole team and I'm like what the Shit are you watching. There are some weaknesses though. They're not that bad there are definitely weaknesses. twenty-three total QB pressures and five. Six past pro is a weakness and I mean you talk about Xavier Thomas coming to town. I mean that's the second best player in the country buying chase young at Clemson twenty-three total keep you pressures Mumford. Had Three Jona Jackson had zero. Josh Meyers had three White Davis had to Brennan Bowen had to Jay had three so Jonas joanie Jackson actually played phenomenal. And he's been great all year and we're GonNa talk about that when we preview. How state next week? But I've said it all year and no one wants to listen the pass protection in spite by the tackles. JK are an issue. Saturday Josh Meyers and Wyatt Davis looked like they did at the start of the season. They've improved they've actually been doing very impasse bro. But they had kind of setback game. I mean Josh Meyers allowed three pressures and that was how. He's playing early in the year when I was being critical of and he cleaned it up. He got I at one point. said he was probably the most improved player on offense. The other thing is three point seven yards per carry. That's deflated because of the sex. So that's obviously not a good good day Russian the football but when you get sacked five times that's going to lower the your yards per carry so I'm not as concerned about that but it certainly was not a dominant rushing day for the Buckeyes is the reality was and I haven't heard people talk about this enough zone. Six dominated the secondary hindsight the lowest graded three players on defense defense for Wisconsin. Were there three corners. Think about that. The receiver group played extremely well in the second half specifically with the only drop being a Ben victory. One drop but the thing that I saw that I haven't seen a lot of is they were elusive Caja Hill. In Victor forced ten miss tackles combined. Ten Ten and the receive group moved the chains a combined. Fourteen Times fourteen times the receivers caught passes and got first downs. The top five. I have great players on offense on Saturday. Utah about the biggest game of the year right championship game to go to the playoffs. The top five graded players. Chris Lavi One K J hill to Ben Victor Three. Jk Eight four Austin Five. Jk played really well outside of pass pro. But that's four receivers in the top five and it's safe to say Justin field supporting cast showed up yup and Brian Hotlines Zone. Six came to play now. I will say this. Justin fields played above average best. Superman was not super all game long. But it's not all on him. You can't blame him entirely. Because here's the reality. He was seventy six percent completion when he was kept clean. When he didn't have pressure he had a thirty percent completion? She percentage when he was under pressure. What does that tell you? Pass pro was the biggest issue on offense that and field's not getting rid of the ball on time and at times the receivers fevers weren't always open but I watched the film received record coach by trade. They played really well. They were open most of the time. I think Justin feels needs to make some better decisions and get rid of the all in the past bro needs a holdup. But that's just the reality of it. You can't go thirty percent under pressure or if you do better not be under pressure a lot. And that's what I saw from this offense now on Defense Ohio state came out for the third quarter and was a different defense than they were in the second half they allowed sixteen plays for twenty three yards zero points in the third quarter are they completely flipped. The momentum and the final dagger was towards end of the third quarter and start at the fourth quarter when the silver bullet defense forced back to back. Three and outs for a grand ran. Total of eight yards and six place and the offense took advantage of score ten points on earth in response to both dries. That is what I'm talking about when I say A-team win team game when the defense is back to back three and outs the offense is getting much improve your position other putting up points now. The momentum shifting now the trains rolling downhill a little bit. And that's what happened. Those two drives were the turning point at towards the end of the third quarter star the fourth quarter. Those two three and outs has changed the entire trajectory of the game. But I will tell you this. Wisconsin had a very clear game plan and it was very simple in the throw game. Go after Damon are net. That was their game plan. They obviously see and viewed him as a weakness which I can't disagree but they targeted our net thirteen eighteen times comparatively they targeted all the linebackers combined eight times targeted Arnett. Thirteen Times they targeted Okuda Huda four times and Cam Brown twice. Okuda had some bizarre injury. That was like a concussion that healed halftime so he was able to come back. Thank God but they went after Damon. Arnett that that was the plan. And here's the other part at times. Most of the time it worked six catches for eighty four yards on thirteen targets. That's not a great day and the reality. Is this anytime you see a box score anytime you look at a game when one of your corners is the leading tackler in the game. He did not have a good day he did not unless you're playing so unless he's a nickel Oh and blitzing and doing all kinds of things. If he's a cover corner like Damon Arnett is he did not have a good game that means his guy caught the ball quite a bit but Wisconsin at one other game plan. That was pretty the obvious. I think everyone's seen this. Everyone's talked about this. They were GONNA commit minimally three people to chase young avoid him absolutely taking the entire game over he still in this is how dominant chase young. is He still managed four. QB pressures he didn't record of sack. I get it so it's not cute and pretty and all that but for the second game in a row after recording at least one on sack in every game of the year he had zero sacks so that means back to back games zero secs. Here's teams no. He's a problem and they aren't going to allow him to have a one on one to be honest. I'm shocked it took this long. I mean we were watching games mid season. I would watch the film like. Why are they trying to do this? You're going to block that freak of nature with one human being or maybe just a slight chip from a running back. He still going to get home. But teams teams finally caught on finally figured it out. They know he's a problem and they're not GonNa to let it happen and Clemson's not going to let it happen if lost. They moved on to the National Championship. Neither Oklahoma Lsu's going to let it happen so get used to it. It's what they're gonNA GONNA do but it was also surprising how little the defensive staff tried to move him around to create mismatches. They did stand him up a little bit you. You Watch the first Wisconsin. And that's all they were trying to do is get him get him to have mismatches. Get Him to move around. So you don't know where he's going and they didn't do as much of it and the other thing they didn't do. I mean just think about this now I think about it like open your mind and don't even think about football. Just think about humans if we have. Let's say six or seven people in pass protection if we take three of them and put them All attention on one guy as a defensive coach you can attack the other side. Because you know that's going to happen you can bring blitzes from the other or side Twist Defensive Lineman 'cause you know you're getting one on ones you know they're weaker in protection over there so attack. If I was I would blitz opposite opposite of chase young every third down. Just say all right block chase with three guys. We're going to bring bare and Brown and Harrison off the edge. And now you've got a real problem on your hands and now when you want to slide it to them chases one on one or at least one and a half on one. That's what was the most surprising thing. There wasn't a lot out of creativity to take advantage of all the attention Wisconsin and Michigan for that matter to chase all they got to cone jet cone twice twice for sex but he they what they did was they pressured and unsettled him. Twenty Times so twenty qb pressures is significant. That's a decent day and you look at the top five grades on Defense Defense Jay. Sean Cornell tough Borland Chase Young David. Hamilton Jeff Okuda. That's about what I saw. Tough is a little higher than I thought he was but he played well. I didn't think he we didn't play well. But what Ohio State had. There was not a schemed up. Anything that they were not getting their ass kicked in the first half they just were missing tackles and it's a lot like we talked about with Utah. They were missed some tackles they were out of some gaps and they just flat Pete Warner glaring one right in the hole. Just make the tackle. We'll get them on the ground and it's not the takeaway from Jonathan Taylor. WHO's a great back but you're there you're linebacker house state? You're in the whole. It's not like an open field tackle with ten in your space. Get on the ground. That's the biggest improvement you saw. In the second half was tackling. They started tackling better and then it was complete team defense defense complete team.

"The new video putting out for patriotic and i'm gonna put one out for patriot one for just general public called film forensics because that's one of the place that breaking down because j._k. Dobbins flat had an and protection and i told you in the preview show j._k. Needs to be better and paseo that has to happen and it didn't happen. I mean he had a complete bust in pass bro. He bypassed the linebacker that he was supposed to block and that linebacker hit justin fields that can't happen not if we're going to if estates and go out and win the big ten that can't happen. They need a running back. That is excellent impasse bro and that's what that's what zeke was has carlos hyde was. That's what j._k. Needs to be for sure. The only the only real negative i could say about justice fields is and it's not a negative. It's first first game game of the year most quarterbacks i mean almost every school in the country would kill for a performance like justice fields heads so we're really nitpicking here but he does need to clean up his timing a little bit he was laid on a couple of quick game throws and a movement throw the and being especially a movement throw like a rollout that can be disastrous. If you're late i mean the whole defense is pursuing and versus better defense. Both of those can be problematic if he doesn't get it fixed but fortunately it was f._a._u. Is going through the grades. After i've watched the film i thought justin fields obviously played extremely well. I thought you know what kudos to brandon bow and grading out at eighty two percent at first game back. That's that's big time they need to. They need that jeremy rucker. How about him unbelievable. I mean he he he really burst on the scene and we're gonna talk about some things that need improved moved on especially the tight end position before catches thirty eight yards two touchdowns greater doubt it at seventy five percent i mean that was really excellent game for area the other one joan jackson so the two the two new guys on the offense line essentially graded out the highest on the offensive line and then ben victor and austin matt graded out decently high to <hes> <hes> some some disappointing i guess points of need to improve for the buckeyes the first and foremost offense align <hes> it was it. I wouldn't seen a bomb a nation. It wasn't terrible but why davis played very average. Josh alabi when he went in the game was very average in the run game but josh josh albee is a very athletic tackle. He graded out really well impasse bro but when it came to the run game and moving people and being tough he wasn't there. He didn't show up but the really really the old enters a whole did that. You didn't see a ton of just displacement f._a._u. You shoulda saw major displacement and the other thing. I saw that it was very concerning is there was twice in the first half that we seven-man pass protection. We kept the tight end and back in and they've had a three man. Rush and fields got pressured twice. I i mean just you do the math. That's more than a double team on each guy so we had to ohio state players on one player across the board and they still got pressure now schematically. I'm not a huge fan of that because anytime you have seven man pro versus three men rush there have a lot of guys in coverage covering covering your four people right really three people because the quarterbacks throwing the ball so you have now. You have eight people covering three hard to get open so schematically. I really hate that package but i know kevin wilson had success with it at indiana. It's more of a temple thing usually but it was not not that impressive and and and then i really people i know buckeye fans or just on cloud nine right now think we could beat the patriots. I thought it was an average average. First game above average will say above average. I game jay dobbins was was okay..

"Show where with you in till four o'clock. It was a thirty five seventeen gray win over the scarlet some I guess key plays. Garrett Wilson's touchdown. Catch was was certainly an ipod out there or is a ninety eight yard touchdown pass from fields to Ben Victor again against thirteen defense. But still you like to see it was a good ball. Good catch and things like that. Some of the highlights of the game master Tiwi had a question about him. Earlier had a nice game seven carry seventy five yards. A couple of touchdowns in this game. A question on Twitter regard, actually, a comment here from Jason I still feel like the defensive line is the strength of the Ohio State defense going into next year. What do you think the strength of the Ohio State offense will be first of all let's take the first comment. Do you still think the defensive line is? The strength of the defense. Absolutely. And like, we said, you know, for last break this big change less twenty years in college football year to like speed isn't that remarkable because I would tend to agree with that? And they now I know Nick Bosa was hurt most of the year. But still I mean, you're losing dream on Jones. I mean, they they handle they lost a lot of guys. But I. Exactly. Right. Exactly. And then I mean, you mentioned Noah Potter like really good. I mean, they have guys coming up. Yeah. Well, I think also one of the things that we vacuum. Exactly last year was the the linebacking core. And really way they're talking about the defense now is almost going to another hybrid position called the bullet where? Yup. Taking the linebacker off the Phil I agree with the guy who asked the question, I think that the defense lines, and is very obvious offically is still wide receiver position as as we lost. Which is remarkable. Because you got Paris Campbell Terry McCord, who are you know, if you look at some draft analysts they're flirting with being first round picks, Johnny Dixon, certainly to get drafted. But I don't disagree with you Bill. I mean, they still are deep at that wide receiver position. I mean K J hills back. I mean there, you know. Van victor. We saw ninety eight yard touchdown pass. You forgot about Austin MAC is you got hurt in the produce game didn't play the last half of the year. But he's going to be in the NFL. And then Garrick Wilson's making plays guys. Still guys that can make big runs after the catch yards after the catch what some poor they make acrobatic catches. We know that we saw we saw at all time, but they may yards. Michigan. Game example, great yards after they caught the ball. Okay. How about you know, we mentioned Justin fields day? Eight carries for fifty two yards and touchdown again hard to evaluate him when he's not allowed to do a lot of running. But it tells you what he can do and only four for thirteen throwing the football with a touchdown. He met with reporters after the game. Here is Justin fields. Scramming?.

"Is we talk a little bit more about the spring game? Heard from Ryan day last hour. We've got some player common Senator becoming up after the spring game. Which was a thirty five seventeen gray win some numbers for you. Again, throwing the football now Matthew Baldwin played on both teams combined. He was twenty or thirty six two hundred forty six yards two touchdowns to interceptions. Justin, fields only through the ball thirteen times. He completed only four one of them though, isn't ninety eight yard touchdown. Ben Victor one hundred thirty one yards. Even in the scrimmage where basically was touch football for the quarterbacks. You were able to see a little bit of what Justin fields brings to the table as runner. Eight carries fifty two yards and a touchdown the leading rusher in. The game was master t seven Kerry seventy five yards with a couple of touchdowns the leading receiver in terms of catches was Jalen Gill seven catches for ninety five yards. Sixty one thousand one hundred and two on hand for that. I was mentioning going into the rate that I had a Twitter question from Dave about the offense. And it's more of a comment Bill and see what you think says, I this is from Dave. I think you'll see Ryan day runny J T Barrett like offense with fields if Baldwin were to end up getting in and we'll be more Wayne Haskins like. I don't know about that JT was kind of a special guy that I want you. I think you want your quarterback too. You know, get better at the base, but when the football, so it'd be old put the ball away on his own. I'm sure and he shows the -bility in the open hill today to allude some. Yeah. They didn't get close again hand on him. I would say that at if fields ends up getting the job, which we all expect Eric. It is going to be different than what we saw Wayne Haskins. They're not gonna let him sit back there and pick teams apart because that's not a strength. It would be unfair to Justin feel I will he will tailor the offense to justify the football player. Justin fields is that's not the football player. Justin fields has ever been. And it's not the football player. Justin field is going to be. And I don't think that's why Ryan day brought him from Georgia. Right. I just think that you know, you going to have to retool a lot of things because like Dwayne Haskins could stand in there under fire. He his first instinct wasn't to run. I don't know if that's just in fields because we don't have a lot of tape on him. But I think he would be you know, I read not their second reads, not they're gone or if you'd Haskins who was the field general who could look first second not their third boom. I've got him just because they're just different football players. Do you think? I'm going back several months, but to the Tate Martell transfer did he transfer because he was concerned about what the offense was going to look like with Ryan day as the head coach. And maybe this isn't what I signed up for with urban Meyer or did he transfer because Justin field was coming in. You didn't know if he could beat them out. I think it's probably combination. I would not surprise me. I have nothing to back this up at all. But it would not surprise me. If the coaching staff had a serious talk with him and said, you know, there may want to look for another place because be Tuffy to find the field as a starter. So common that you do have. I mean, you've been you have those coaching at a high level, you, you know, not that you wanna run a kid off. But you do have serious true conversations with them. Yeah. And let's face it Martell. He said all the right things was saying all the right things until the last minute and things were not all the right? And I think that's part of the negativity that I've sense. And look, I I am I I wish him well Miami. And you know, he got himself eligible right away. I hope he does very well by a lot of Buckeye fans were turned off Eric. And I think it's because of what Bill said is that I'm in a you know, he's going to come here. I'm gonna compete. It's my job. And then when he did the transfer became official was like, all right never mind. It was all the noise. He talked of it was the the stuff on Twitter and then the heading to Miami. And I I don't get that. I don't get the negativity towards Tate Martell doing what's in his best into exactly right. And we we kind of hope that that was you know, to bill's point what was what was said between Ryan day and take Martell was look, you know, it's just going to be difficult for you here because Tate Martell was an urban Meyer guy, and this is Ryan day in not borrow from his Twitter. This is Ryan daytime this is Ryan days team. This is Ryan days offense. And he looked at Justin feels he looked at Matthew Baldwin and tape Martell, and I get nothing to to back this up. But you would think that he said all right fields most comfortable with also Matthew Baldwin sorry Tate. And that's just like urban said, I one of my favorite quotes from him. That's life in the big city. This is the premier college football program in the country. Well, I can tell you that last year our our friend best Buckeye coverage in STAN Jackson before Justin fields was going to transfer here. He was telling me like everybody's marking down that tape. Martell is going to be the guy if if DeWayne Haskins leave, and he said, I I'm not sure man, he goes, I think Matthew Baldwin might and beating him out. So it wasn't a walk even if feels had not necessarily come. It was not a walk that tape Martell would've ended up being the starting quarterback. Exactly. Here's the thing that all division one coaches face now in the world of transfers in the AA making it easier it easier and kids eligible right away. Yeah. Exactly. Yep. If you will not have many programs. They'll have to great quarterbacks in same time unless. There's a big separation Gaza freshman, guys senior and he's going out. But if they're within a year or two each other. You know, they're not gonna want sit behind anybody anymore. All right. How about if in case you missed some Orion days post game comments? Let's feed a couple of them to you. First of all the quarterbacks today. Again, let me go over the numbers Matthew Baldwin twenty or thirty six to forty six two touchdowns. Two picks. Justin, fields, only through it. Thirteen times. Four completions one hundred thirty one yards but ran at eight times for fifty two yards and a touchdown. And Ryan was asked about the separation at this point as they come out of the spring and that quarterback position battle at don't really know right now, I'm gonna keep looking at it. I know I keep saying that to you and everybody wants to know. But again, I don't think right now that we're going to kind of make decision on that. I think it will continue through the preseason right now, we only have three quarterbacks, you know, and Danny's our forth, but you know, the magic someone steps off a curve and hurts her ankle tomorrow. We got to you know. And so these guys have to keep going there probably are going to have to play one way, shape or form along the way. So they'll keep calling for each other. And as long as that room get strong. That's the key Bill. I think we all see that probably fields ahead. But there's I guess there's no reason from a coaching standpoint on April thirteenth in Clare somebody that's starting quarterback. Yeah. There's no reason to be too many things can happen with the next couple of months. You know, what's going to happen? The all season things that get I guess tell you something. I saw the kid Jack Miller. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I saw him in. He is a quarterback recruit, by the way from Arizona. That's coming to and the him in Tampa. They had a health to work. Adidas national several seven camp and and assault him out there. And he I tell you what he's an impressive looking guy tall kid. You know, those strong ball and the command of the offense and things like that. So you know, they'll have a pretty going coming in. I will say this. You know, we were just talking about tape Martell leaving the one thing that it does do Eric is just like day was saying if somebody steps off a curve with due respect to Chris chug it off I mean, how many times in college football. Have we seen teams go through two quarterbacks and be on a third the national championship season. For Evans Siegel. I stayed cardio. Jones was third quarterback. They don't have a lot of that that position they really do not going in. And I guess if there's a danger, you hope no one gets hurt, obviously, Eric, but they're really not that deep in quarterback talent. Even though I think everybody like. Ex Justin fields Matthew Baldwin after that. I don't know you got a plan for the worst and hope for the best. Things can happen. I mean, just in fields could it practice on Monday could step awkwardly or plant awkwardly and gone Matthew Baldwin had his knee injury last year could flare up again, and then it's Chugunov time baby. So yeah, you have to I think have that. And I don't think it was ever when the conversation was had between Chris chugging often, the coaches at Ohio State was ever you can come in and start, you know, when you come up to Columbus where we're gonna need you in depth where need some of that experience. Come help us win a national championship. I it's like with basketball graduate transfers guys are going to come in and drop a double double a game. But there guys that if you need can really really help this team out and not only in a game standpoint from a practice standpoint as well. I'm sure just because chugging odds more experienced in life and in football than fields or Matthew Baldwin. He's got practice habits. He's got film room habits study says. Habits that he can pass down to these guys that without him. There's that void without that leader. And that's just almost as important as you know in the ball in the field. As one thing you'll see in common and every spring game day showing on the TV stations. All quarterbacks will be in some different color jersey. Yeah. You can't afford to lose them and bring you on the staff went Tamasek out her. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Mike Tomczak for our younger listeners starting quarterback for Ohio State, and it must have been going. He was going to be the starter and broke his leg in the spring game. Yeah. And I'm under coach Bruce as young high school coach. I remember listening to Johnny majors who is the head coach at Pitt speaking to a clinic over in Pittsburgh. Somebody asked him. What's when advice you'd give a young coach? She said don't lose them in practice. And that was way back, and that's when you will lot harder. The where is the line drawn in terms of that? And and you know, we saw we saw today in terms of not tackling these guys with you need to be physical you need to practice tackling and everything to be ready for a game day Saturday. Now, this is different. I mean, it's April thirteenth, but. The amount of physicality Bill. You need to have to get your team ready in practice versus. Let's not do anything stupid and getting by hurt. I mean are those conversations that the coaching staff has all the time you watch your recruiting Calva high school, you can tell fees physical kit or not pretty much. But man, would you got to do it in game situation, and it's tough to practice that because the size and speed athletes today, the classes are such more violent than they ever were. So you just got to be smart about it. And but I think that's also why you see more tackles today than you used to and that and then some of the main covers things part of it. It was all keep the ball in front of you and break forward to make the plays. Get more guys. They're create turnovers. All that stuff. You always talk about. But a main stuff is a very fine line between Neil been physical practice not to physical. But one thing I say this defensive coach, let's go to the defensive side of the ball. Is that the one thing about not taking guys to the ground? It helps you practice strip in the ball. And it helps that the offense of they're forcing more. So some things you get out of it. But you can't go full bless hundred miles an hour every day every practice was interesting Eric is it was just one year ago at the spring game. The quarterback battle was Dwayne Haskins and Joe borough. Joe borough was still here. Yeah. Not transferred LSU and become their starter. And Ryan day after this game was asked about the quarterback battle now that he has Justin fields and Matthew Baldwin and asked the difference between last year's quarterback battle Haskins borough and this year's quarterback battle fields Baldwin, though when you had Joe and going here, they they didn't have a body of work on the field. But they had a body of work practicing in the coaches and myself, and you know, we we had gone through it. And we kind of knew what we had. We saw him in the game. And then you know, we had to kind of make a decision who is head right there. The guys we have here. These guys, you know, they should have been at high school at this time last year. So they don't have that body of work that they're still working progress. They're still growing they're still making mistakes. So to say, we know where they are in terms of finished product, it's hard to tell and they still have a long way to go. Yeah. Even though Dwayne was inexperienced Joe borough inexperienced in terms of starts. They both had gotten game action. You know? Haskins did what he did against Michigan that year, these guys totally different. Right bill. Yeah. And I think this the coaching staff last year honestly felt they probably win games with both of those guys. Right. Because of the who they were good is very and go to practice. It was very apparent. They were both really good. But a different story this year completely boys. Joe burrow. He went down to Baton Rouge. And didn't take long for him to.

"Newsradio six ten WTVN buckeyes, Minnesota this week a little more on the preview side Stanley Jackson joins us live stand. You know, the weather's getting ready to change. We're talking about you know, eighties again today and then by game day, Saturday, highs in the fifty s. You know, when you're back in the day, you know, sling in the ball around and running and all that stuff. Does that weather to do that kind of temperature drop have much impact on you? When you're on the field. No not that type of drought. And he gets down to the. Yeah. Yeah. Problem. But I think a lot of football players preferred. Pass on that hot surf so times, you know, the old saying is football weather. Well, I think we're finally starting to get the I got you. So it's it'd been football weather for the buckeyes all season. I mean, Dwayne Haskins that receiving core Dobbins. They just continue to perform exceptionally high level fabulous. Look these receivers have been here for a while. They're veteran. And I think they're really figuring it out. Now, I don't know. What's guys the best to be honest with replay were sixty five different guys lead us receiving including Dobbins Dwayne Haskins continues to oppress us with his accuracy spreads the ball out. How about the catch by Ben Victor to seal the deal week? We got a lotta guys make plays better thing. That's the prizes. Muzak kinda here, you know, the peanut gallery mirror about the very gave. All of a sudden they want to go back to the house. It was three yards and a cloud of dust buffer years. I've heard what we wanted to see was an explosive offense yet, we've got it. I mean, six hundred total yards about that. Four hundred fifty three passing yards arch Lisa's record. And we know we've got to dominant running-backs office does that's far better. But I did not want to go backwards. I love this office of love would have presented. It is very difficult for our defense is to stop us run game. I know one thing I do not wanna see and that's Dwayne Haskins run the ball anymore. It makes me crazy. Yeah. I mean, he's really the guy that's built for it. Right. Even though you can't be an effective runner at times. But I'm with you. I don't wanna see him. Dr. Definitely in this game at times or quarterback. Okay. The wind has to stick. Pick their spots. Reality is thing. Has to perform better or doesn't have to keep it and we don't have to render zone. Read another novel approach top how about Broederbond third one minute. So I just go to run there is because the boxes loaded pigeon there where to go. I've got an approach guy complete seventy percent of his. I like it. I like it a lot. I talked to your partner in crime Matt McCoy yesterday. I talked to coach Bill Conley. Both indicating that you know this month because the opponents aren't exactly top ranked. Folks, we just gotta stay healthy or get healthy. And continuing to improve when you look at Minnesota and Nebraska when you look at these, you know, off the top twenty five opponents, what is it the team needs to do to get better? How do you get better against a team that frankly, aren't that? Great. Well, I think first off you always play yourself. You don't wanna play south sort of product and your level to work on some things better opponent. I want to respect the game. Because reality is you're gonna get the best shot from everything they can knock off season. I'll go back to one hundred roads Purdue five pain, and it's real prize. I get four and we lost that game. So it can't happen. This this Minnesota team is better. They have a defensive performs better than it has. Here's parents. They've got a true freshman quarterback that shows ability to make plays. They've got a wide receiver was big play receivers. So they've got some guys that can make please don't want to go to this game feeling like it's a foregone conclusion that you win and to respect the game of football. You wanna put them away early and often and hopefully get some guys in. We haven't seen in a few weeks play well, traveled and well versed as always Stanley. We appreciate it much. Listen for more this afternoon Jackson and McCoy down on one zero five seven, and they'll keep you right on with your Buckeye info. Let's.

So, of course, the guy that night was McSorley, but we said here all along to really win it. He was going to have to beat us throwing the ball through the short pass. It went a long way. But really throwing the ball downfield. That is not his forte is Kip keeping you to golf and coverage put the ball away and run it and he got a lot of yards, but we captain across the zone in our interviews this week with defensive players they reveal that they didn't spy him all the time. It was basically third downs was the plan. Maybe if it was a second down in long, they might do it. But it was basically third down. So some of that running. He got people are gonna why wire it they spying himbal. Why take me into coaches office Bill? Why would you not spy? By a guy like that. When he's clobbering you running the football. Well, first of all again on first and second down you got pretty regular defense. If he's side you're going to put pressure put pressure. If you take one out spy, you lose some of that pressure. So that's part of it. So you want to have your defenders play gap responsibility and leverage on the football. In case. They run the ball regular down this situation passing downs. That's what we needed to spy for. We'd be offering coverage would give him better rain earning earnings anyway. Yeah. It seemed like they. Okay mic. Mcsorley got his, but they did shut everything else. Now. I mean for the most part with the exception of the ninety three yard pass. And of course, you can't excuse that read, but the bottom line the defense held a team that as Bill said average fifty six points to twenty six they did a solid job. Don't you think? Yeah. I thought we did a good job taking away the deep threat for the most part. There's one play thing early on in the game is amazing one handed catch Johnson. That was incredible. But aside of that and a couple of other big ones. In short game. I thought we did a good job though containing deep. Okay. One of the big plays of the game was the Ben Victor touchdown.

"Indiana team will be interesting to see how they come off of that. You know, emotional crazy game that they had on the road. I mean, I think are much more talented team Indiana as foreign one, but they have their hands full against a awful Rutgers team last week, so so we'll see. We know. Indiana gave them a really good game will ask you on a Thursday night to open the season. I'm curious to see during Haskins in person and see this offense, everything. He brings such a different dimension to what they had with j. t. Barrett because of his arm, strength and the ability worked downfield. And as you said, these receivers have really it's an impressive group. They got a lot of experience they block. Well, they're athletic Ben Victor for years since he's shown up has been the guy. People have raved about talent wise, but it was like one hundred seventy pounds, and now he's up to probably close to two hundred. And I'm sure this is a big one for his confidence. This I think state now if I'm not mistaken because I saw Darius Anderson run away from them at TCU. That was a ninety plus yard play Caja ambler as you were talking about before. I mean, they face some some fast players and they've given up a lot of big plays, but they made the big plays. You said when it mattered most nother, probably gonna get Bosa back in November. Maybe not earlier than that, maybe not at all, but what's your vineyard? Your impression of them the you've seen? I don't want I. We can talk about them. So now maybe I know law schedule, but I saw you drop Clemson down in your in your top ten. I'm I, I don't think you're wrong because they, they struggled. They struggled with Texas AM and they really struggled. I get it. The Trevor Lawrence was hurt, but they had their hands full at home against Syracuse. They ran the ball well with that. Was it? Who do you have besides Alabama? Who do you have the most confidence in now before I answer that, I just wanted to look something up that you meant. You mentioned how they gave up the runt long run to dairy Sanderson. The long play here to Caja hammered unit. Ohio State is the only team in the country out of one hundred and thirty teams that has given up three gains of eighty or more yards. They're also the only team that has given up four gains of seventy or more yards. And y-. And yet. Yet, I should say. That's not true. Both teams have given up seventy plus plays are in the state of Ohio you own allow. You has also done that Ohio. You has also done that you are correct. So to your question, like I think what we can agree on at this point as Ohio state's offense is probably as potent as it's ever been under urban Meyer. But this defense is is more mortal than in recent years. Now they still have great players. Penn State came into that game averaging over fifty points than they scored twenty six. So it's not like this was, you know sound the sound, the alarm panic kind of game, but they definitely are vulnerable to these big place who gives me the most confidence outside Alabama. At this point while I, it's the same team. I've had the most confidence in since probably the first or second week of the season in that's Georgia to me, Georgia is every bit as good as their team that went to the national championship game last year in probably a little bit more dangerous. Now they don't have the two running backs. They still have good running back. So they don't have those two. No roquan. I think the offense alliance probably better. You would think they're better at the quarterback spot with more experience with would Jake from, I think they're better in the secondary. It's kind of like how when you watch Alabama and there's so many different guys that can be offense. I mean that instead of just being totally focused around shove and Michelle every Georgia game. Now there's like eight different guys that carry the ball or catch the ball who are capable of taking it the distance. Now, Georgia hasn't been perfect by any means recently. They actually, you know, you look at the final score of the Tennessee game in Tennessee's bad in, okay, they took care of business, but you know it was a game..

"But the only thing that Stu is think about this, so you're giving me that will they beat Iowa by like two points on the road in a tough place. Play last year, right? They won that close game. They be Washington. I think it was a touchdown game. I mean, I know it was because we wasn't quite as close as the final March on the. No. But yeah, they beat Wisconsin to win the big ten title game. That was a touchdown game. They beat Ohio State two years ago in that game. That was a field goal game, right? So I, I mean, I think we're being so you know, what is his record in games decided by a touchdown or less? I don't know off the top of my head, but I can. I can rattle off a bunch of close games that they did win. This one was on him. I don't think that's an indictment of his whole coaching tenures coaching ability. The interaction with the fan was not good. I mean, there's no other either yet to me that to me, that's inexcusable I get it. That is emotional scene. You know, we've seen coaches lose it and when there's really no, no good enough excuse for that, that's bad. The play call, the play call was a bad play call. But again, that happens that happens, you're. Gonna get. We get stuff wrong. I mean, I would be curious as to how many times there are big moments like that and the coach thinks about it and goes, yeah, I think this will work, but it's taking the ball out of your best players hands and at the end of the day, is that something you know how often does that blow up in your face? Yeah, that if you're going to be wrong, be wrong with Troy Smith, surely getting stuffed or get or throwing it incompletion or or whatever it is or getting sacked. I mean, to me, that's, you know, hindsight's twenty twenty, but you'd think that's the way if you're gonna lose, let trace McSorley you know, have the ball on his hands and if trace McSorley had tucked it and run, I don't know. He would have gotten a five yards, but at least you would have said, well, that was working for us all night. So of course, on the last play the game, we're going to go for that. If you watch the replay chase Yang, who by the way, how to phenomenal game. I mean, he not only did he make that play at the end, but he had a there was a fourth and one. I think late third, early fourth quarter for Penn State where he deflected the pass if he hadn't. Could have been a touchdown yet to sacks and notable, of course because Nick Bosa wasn't there. So if you watch the play, chase young knows exactly what's coming. He he, he, he runs straight to the the ball to your point earlier. It's an interesting thing to trace McSorley gain some Heisman credibility with that performance. Absolutely. But as you know, it's hard to to really make much headway after a loss. Dwayne Haskins led to touchdown drives in the last eight minutes, including a ninety, six yard drive and didn't probably get as much claim out of that game as trace McSorley did he still obviously considered one of the Heisman front runners? But if you look at our, for instance, Heisman straw poll that went up on the athlete. He fell behind will Greer and Cuyler Murray. So of course, all those guys are playing phenomenal. I, I think that the the reason people felt that way was on the whole. It did feel like Penn State was the better team in that game. But. But I mean, you can't say enough good things about the wheel house. They came back at the end, the speed, all the. I mean, the catch by Ben Victor that kept the thing alive in it was incredible catch and it's like he's one of six, right? He's not like their star receiver even close to being their star receiver. He's like one of six guys that could have possibly been the guy in that role. Ohio State has now gone away from home and beaten TCU went into the most hostile atmosphere possible and beaten and beaten Penn State. You know, I mean, I think it's clear at this point that they have to be considered one on the very short list of of playoff even national championship contenders. Yeah, are mixed, are we have? Our crew has them this week has a foreign one..

"And he also plays sammy the bull von oh in the godley movie and we made the pilot for the neighborhood we all we all figured this is going to blow up when the godley movie hits they're going to the industry is going to say hey there's room again for a mob type drama you know maybe not an hbo or showtime but there's so many frigging networks now where you can get something on tv whether it's lure you know amazon it's everywhere so we felt really good and you know we're thinking all listen godley when that has the theaters they're going to be looking for mob stuff well the bhagat movie hit the theaters with a dud you know the film itself was like seven years in the making and it all began when john gotti son turned down a reported offer from sylvester stallone and i bet he's wishing he took that deal now but he finally struck a deal with the producer a mock fury for a movie about his father and you know look fury didn't have many hollywood connections so he turn turn for help to a guy named marnie ingles who's at all time comedian who's now dead he's the husband of shirley jones he was the husband's shirley jones and believe it or not i don't know why this worked out the way it worked out but marty ingels but managed to secure fury and john gotti a meeting with travolta and because of that he's essentially a producer on the film and travolta signed on and for that marty ingels was told he'd be paid one hundred thousand dollars and get a producer credit but he died and they were really not trying to pay his wife after he died him month move he got shot and the shooting schedule was done they didn't wanna pay him this is a side story but it kind of started to make me on the stand i don't know about this movie but eventually shirley jones got a big pr guy ed losy on it and they finally paid the hundred grand but that's hollywood for if they can try to fuck him beach they will travolta became one of the few constants on this project as the inexperienced producers struggle to put the rest of the elements together it began with the barry levinson to direct and james toe back writing eventually became kevin connolly directing a script written by leo rossi so by the time connolly took over the directing rains it was shooting in cincinnati and twenty sixteen randall emmett george furlough away says films partner with fury films and highland group and lionsgate all these people to make this guy movie i should've known there might be a problem k so about six months ago we're we're sitting in a dog theater to watch the two episodes that were shot of the pilot in call the neighborhood and you william demeo was on an earlier episode of this podcast discussing the movie discussing sammy the bull and i really had high hopes for this project hopefully it'll still get off the ground but we're sitting in this little dark room about to watch the movie of that the the pilot and i'm with you know james russo nick chore all paul ben victor even leo rossi the guy who wrote gatti's but us and kevin connolly's next me and connolly turns to me and he says i should cast you vinnie chinju gandhi and i said next time and he goes if i never hear a talion tough guy again it'll be too soon and i remember thinking through that doesn't sound too good now's good as kevin connolly might be at directing i think he was in the little over his head but what's shocking to me is that eighty percent of audience members on rotten tomatoes and four and a five of them on then dangle like this guy movie so clearly critics out of touch with people who actually vote with their pocketbook makes me wonder if the press and creeks don't want a movie to succeed because they think that it's glorifying but gangster that was john gotti and if you look i mean the fucking movie got zero on rotten tomatoes you know that didn't do this film any favors you know i worked for john gotti for a minute and a half sino him to an extent i talked to him when i was a journalist and he was on trial was at those trials it's it's bittersweet from me i wanted to see this movie succeed because.
