Steelers Sign a New Contract With Roethlisberger for the 2021 Season
"Ole Ben Roethlisberger cabin back to the Steelers and he's taking a five million dollar cut to do. So I was going to say is pretty damn awesome. That's pretty damn awesome. And you know you and I kind of talked about this at that was going to be the case just because he'd already had talks with the rooneys wage a look. I'll leave money on the table if that means I get to come back. So right yes, so he reduced his paid from 14 four or from 19 million to 14 million, which gives them about 15 million in cap space which in the grand scheme of things isn't a lot but just the gesture alone the gesture. I mean well and well this kills my whole, New Jersey Pharisee theory of give me the way he was sitting on the bench was looking off into the distance taking in the stadium. That was it. He was going to hang it up. We're not going to see him and well this happens so it just shows you guys. We're not Sports analysts by any stretch of the imagination cuz I completely speak for yourself Hold My Clipboard and my headset. I got this. Well Amy has kind of a point.

"Out of Beckham Jr. The high ranker on O'Dell is my clay at 25 Below is their care about 39. So the range is 14 spots. You and I have them at 32 for you 34 from me. Daniel 31 Matthew. So, you know, this is a player who had his very, very best was the best wide receiver Best player in fantasy football, basically running the gates in his career. What's the process behind ranking Odell Beckham Jr this year in an offense that looks a lot like it did last year? In terms of personnel? Basically the same key pieces running back? I don't think there is Is a harder player to rank and fantasy football is here. The note. Go back. He's up there for sure. The talent is off the charts. We know it. It seems like you know, especially towards the end of last year, Baker really seemed to look like the baker that well, yeah, you know that that was drafted number one overall, like he played really, really well. Their offensive line played well. Kevin Stefanski did a great job last year with Cleveland and then you think about how they run that offense in terms of play action. That's the want to do. They want to run the ball. They want to set up play action. And so you know, you get Odell Beckham Jr is one of those guys that Totally all he needs is he needs he needs, you know, half a inch of daylight, and the ball wants to make something happen like that's a guy that you know what I mean. Like so, like all they need is one play to make your, uh to make a game. Having said all that So the upside is there. It's massive. He's somebody that has struggled with injuries throughout his career, including in Cleveland, including obviously last year, And there's a guy that now has played 23 games with the Cleveland Browns. I mean, it's a decent sample size, and in that time he's wide receiver 30. Nine carriages 12.9 fantasy points per game. I mean, that's just in the games in which he's active. Remember two years to go. Obviously, he had the You know, they just try to force feed him that the ball in the end zone and just couldn't score touchdown to save his life. He had some bad touchdown locked, but, you know, I mean, it seems insane to say. But Baker's numbers are weirdly better without Beckham, you know, you know, since Beckham joined you look at the before, and after that they are. I don't know why that is whether equals pressure, whether it's just sort of happenstance because of you know, Um uh, the coaching staff and the And the change in the coaching staff, or, you know, in terms of schedule. It's a weird one for me, so I listen. Here's what I did. I rank where I rank him. You know, you gotta make a call. I rank him his wide receiver 32 for me where that is, is that still allows you to get some upside, But you don't have to count on him as a starter because anyone that's had him the last two years knows how frustrating it's been to have him on your roster. He's incredibly frustrating as a starter. He's inconsistent. And at this point, you know, I mean, he has yet to be a fantasy superstar in Cleveland. It's been Been a while since New York Field and so I am, you know, And if I miss out, I miss out. But I guess for me, it's like, you know, I haven't any you know, has significant upside stage, but not somebody that I'm going to count on that. I can leave the draft with two guys. I feel good about as my starters it becomes in at 32. Yeah, I hear you. I think one of the issues with no Dallas probably this Is that you don't wanna pay the premium on O'Dell. Right? You just can you can't justify paying a premium and a player who obviously missed significant time in recent years did not have a great season last year, has never found his footing in a Cleveland offense that we thought could lead to him being the same dynamic receiver. He was with the Giants and then. Moreover, it's hard to get them at a discount right now because it always feels like you can't pay the premium. But someone else in your league is going to be willing to pay the premium because he's Odell Beckham Jr. And that person is going to say we creep around the wide receiver 20. 4 25 26 range, which again Mike Clay hasn't at the high end of our rankings at wide receiver 25. They're gonna be saying her and I could take Odell Beckham Jr. Who has the chance to be a top five wide receiver. If he hits everything correctly, We're gonna take another player in this range who I like, but I'm not convinced the upside is anywhere near O'Dell's. That makes sense. It's a hard player to place where to sort of appropriately draft Odell this season. But that's exactly right. And like, even my clay, so my claims you dispatched plays the highest at least the most optimistic in the Amazon wide receiver 25, which again is not a starter on ESPN Standard League where we start to wide receivers, 10 team leagues, Sony has been steadily even even clay. The most optimistic among us has him as a flex play. And you think about the guys that are going in that, right? I mean again, like so I'm obviously rank higher than 25. But if you just take Mike's franking there, 25 I've seen the lamb at 22. You have CD, lamb and and 26. I think we both agree like, Give me the The upside of CD lamp over the upside of somebody like Odell Beckham Jr like and I get it right. But like I'd rather candidly I think staying in that division. I think I'd rather any of the Bengals wide receivers, Then open up back in junior in terms of upside. You have no, I hear you. It's a again he I just I'm not saying I won't have any shares of Odell, but I think I'm gonna have a hard time telling you right now like where I would prefer to draft Odell because I'm not sure it's realistic. Another player who's had some really, really good seasons, never quiet at the ceiling or the apex of Odalis Juju Smith Schuster, Most optimistic amongst the rankers is trusted at 24. I got him at 38. Matthew. You've got him at 31. So I'll start because I haven't particularly low And I know that you know the volume was okay last year, but the biggest issue was that Jews you turned into basically a slot only wide receiver where most of his damage was done at or near the line of scrimmage. His air yards per target dropped nearly 40% from 2019 2020, and he was held. Without a deep perception in 12 of the teams 16 games last year, and it's one thing when a player has misused and you say, Hey, you know what? They can't do any better, but they actually have good wide receivers, right? I mean, who's a better vertical threat? Is it him? Or is it Deontay Johnson? Is it him? Or is it chase Claypool? I kind of feel like the answer is it is clearly those other two guys Certainly clip will probably be in the most potent threat out of those three. By the way, they also you know, they also James Washington who, you know, sure. Certainly fast themselves, so they, you know, they have a guy in James Washington, and by the way, don't forget that two other concerns here on Juju. Um, is that number one is Ben's arm might be stopped. Then, just like you know whether he's whether it's healthy or not, You know, I don't know if he wasn't 100% healthy last year, but Ben just didn't look like the same quarterback last years. He still is He still, you know, a solid NFL quarterback, of course, is still a first ballot Hall of Famer. Of course he is, But did he, at least to me to the eye test did not look like the Ben Rothwell. Last year's Ben Roethlisberger did not Look at the guy from two years ago where it was, you know, the the guy that was like, you know, like the third best quarterback in fantasy in, um What is it 2018 Something like that 2018 2019 something like that. And you know, so that's a concern, And they're gonna have a running game this year. Like I think you know you and I are both fans of Najee Harris, like they couldn't really run the ball last year. They had to be very pats heavy. We still expect them to be passed heavy, But maybe not as much with Na Jae Harris and certainly having Harris certainly makes you concerned about, you know, Touchdown equity for Ju ju? Who? By the way already? Wasn't you know, um, already needed a lot of touchdowns last year. Um, you know, you had nine last year to sort of keep his fantasy value of flow to your point about, you know, area yards for target, and they turn them into Ryan Switzer. I mean, in all seriousness, so 5.7 air yards for target. He was 87 out of 89 qualified wide receivers and I love this staff Shout out to the status killer. Damian Dabrowski found this. 2020 Juju became the third player since 2001 to have a season of 95 or more receptions and 850 or fewer yards. So we had 95 or more receptions but under 850 receiving yard, only the third player since 2000 and one and here's the other two guys that have done that Matt Forte and LaDainian tunnels running backs..

"Look the american football conference. The playoffs are not intact as of yet the steelers just a few weeks ago where the number one seed in the american football conference now. They are the number three seed after three straight losses. Look this team yes. They are in the playoffs. But they are fighting for momentum redemption and seating. And it's very important that they take care of their own business by beating the indianapolis colts which is going to be a tough task. The colts are coming in at ten and four. They ride a fantastic defense behind a forest buckner and also darius leonard and very capable offense as well led by the old wily veteran by the name of philip rivers. Yes they know him. They have been around him a lot in the last seventeen seasons and rivers has faced off against ben roethlisberger as well remember he was the guy who was supposed to go to the steelers and number eleven but ben roethlisberger was picked instead because he went earlier on to the new york giants and then was promptly traded to the sago charters. James washington to catch the steelers while received some of the best in the business with run out the catch all been has to get the ball in their hands. They know exactly what to do with it. Fourteen nothing pittsburgh. Meanwhile from the comeback player of the year alex smith. That's the last thing we want to see bleeding profusely after being cleared. It's the other leg to quick nap. Critical moment final seconds of the first half of the clock. Ticking down. Alex smith getting sacked on a third-down play. No timeouts left the trying to run the field goal team out but the clock is going to be stopped by the officials and this may have been sneaky from alex smith. this sneaky. good better and move by. Alex realized that he doesn't have any time outs left and if they used the ball in play to probably not going to be able to get the feel law so retards off with the football. Fourteen three at the have a little momentum shift now oakland drive of the third smith. Watch cam simms. This might have been the biggest play for the washington football team in this game. And don't just take my word for mike. Tomlin talked about this after the game. Felt like he was a real turning point thirty yards on the catch and run a big first down in that would lead to this. How about logan thomas to the one converted quarterback out of college logan thomas with some great hands being able to get down to the one he's really turned into a professional title. They were punching in premier. So fourteen steelers fourth quarter at seventeen ten at smith. It's thomas wide open worldwide. That's a busted covers right there but don't fault the waas to football team alex smith to taking advantage of the miscues by the steelers. So we're all even now the steelers of a fourth and one on the twenty eighth. They're kick chris. Boswell is out the rookie. Matt right is there. And so mike tomlin elects to go for it a throw was to anthony mcfarland his miscue there and the washington football team takes over on downs and that leads to. This happened this catch. This is a big time catch right here by camps and being able to survive the ground one handed grab pressure situation. Can't do it any better than that. That's a big first down later in the drive. Dustin hopkins from forty five away at the first looks. It's going to hook but then it hangs and it's good to washington up twenty two seventeen but mike tomlin had used his timeouts. Well they will going to have plenty of time. But there's no time when this happens a no deflections your the game washington. Football team's defensive line. "ben roethlisberger" Discussed on Get Up!
"Presume sunday so monday tuesday wednesday. This would be three thursday friday if they test negative days. It could return to the team on saturday and play in sunday's game. This is all still possible. You should not assume that just because others have for instance stafford last that. It's automatic that they will allen. Sills the league's chief. Medical officer told us on a conference call yesterday that there have been three cases where individuals in this situation where were identifies close contacts tested negative a couple of days and then out of nowhere tested positive. So it can happen. You have to pay attention to the results from each day and make sure they're on track but the comparison you made is a good one matt. Stafford of the lions was in an old an identical situation. Last week he did come off the cova list. He did play. he didn't play particularly well. I guess there's no way to know for certain if there was causing effect but mike tomlin said yesterday that if rothlisburger is available to play he will play he did and now there's another thing. He hurt his knee in sunday's game so he's allowed to go to the team facility for treatment. That's that's in the rules but there are very strict regulations when he could be there who we can have contact with which doors he can't use cetera so he'll be able to get treatment on that knee and it's possible if they cleared the cova testing and the checks out. He will play sunday but obviously a lot of questions. Still dancing again. They're the last unbeaten team. Let me get the guys back in here. There's not a lot to speculate about but there are i. Guess the simplest possible questions ryan clark. My former steeler. I will start with you. If ben roethlisberger for any of the reasons we just named does not play sunday against the bengals and mason. Rudolph is the starting quarterback ryan who wins the game. You want to say the pittsburgh steelers but listen with the way. The bengals have played lately joe burrow especially. Steelers stay unbeaten with 28-24 comeback win over Ravens
"The Steelers are seven or no after turning seventeen seven halftime deficit into a twenty eight twenty four win over the ravens in Baltimore Ben Roethlisberger tossed a pair of second half touchdown passes to help the Steelers remain the NFL's only unbeaten team and match the best seven game start in team history the thirty eight year old Roethlisberger finished twenty one of thirty two for one hundred eighty two yards first I was very sorry that was a pretty mean nothing nothing about this game was was pretty from our perspective until the game was over with the scoreboard reading one at the end of the day that's all that matters reigning MVP Lamar Jackson had a miserable day losing a pair fumbles and completing just thirteen of his twenty eight passes for two hundred eight yards and two interceptions I'm Dave Ferrie

"Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdown passes to Deonte Johnson while the Steelers were building at twenty seven seven lead in a twenty seven twenty four win over the Titans would like to play games like that second half quite like that first out but the other professional team they they make adjustments and and they made some I did make enough plays in second half that he still added a one yard TD run and ray ray McCloud set up a touchdown with a fifty seven yard punt return but the Titans scored seventeen straight points in the second half and were in position to force overtime until Stephen Gostkowski missed wide right from forty five yards out with fourteen seconds left the Steelers improved to six you know for the first time since nineteen seventy eight when they went to the Superbowl Ryan Tannehill threw for two hundred twenty yards and two TV's for the five one Titans I'm Dave Ferrie

"B. was not able to handle it the same way you out that's Kim I'm not sure so even the apologies from Ben Roethlisberger are equivocal well you know I feel bad that I did that thing that that guy did a white but I did the same thing to someone else and he thanked me for it so what the hell in a my problem it's his problem that's basically Roethlisberger saying sometimes better to say nothing an A. B. Woodbine any of it he tweeted yesterday never friends just had to get my ends shut up already that was in response to the the Ben Roethlisberger comment that tweet was later deleted it was so Antonio brown realizing there's a point we just gonna let this go you just calico the Steelers have to let it go he has to let it go just like go B. J. with the giants every time beach it's like Kramer's vow silence starting now and it continues I have a feeling that we jail we talk about the giants at some point during the regular season I have a feeling that Antonio brown will be talking about the Steelers at some point during the regular seasons I have I have a feeling that the Steelers are we talking about him at some point during the regular season and if the giants for the Browns or the Steelers or the raiders in the post season or some combination of those four we're gonna be here in about a ten to it's interesting it adds all spice to the game but there is a point we just wanted to end and book James Washington is it going to complain about getting called out by the quarterback James Washington was a rookie Antonio brown one to complain about it in two thousand ten you want the football she you want the quarterback to like you when you're not get established and this applies to any organization think of it this way you're the new guy the boss calls you out our system trying to put your nose up the bosses but for lack of a better phrase I stopped I paused I tried to think of when I couldn't so I I went with my first stop you try to prove yourself to everyone you want the boss to trust you thank you Sir may I have another once you're established and you've been hearing the same thing from the boss for all these years and you get sick of it here it comes again that same old routine call me out and busted my **** yeah appreciate me although somebody else will appreciate me I show what I can do boss you to start this crap again I'll go somewhere else that's the difference and if your perverse the roles James Washington would have been upset if he was the established veteran player shown over and over again what he can do and Antonio brown would have taken it if he was the rookie and what's astounding to me is Ben Roethlisberger apparently enable figure that out unless he is just groping and grasping for any way he can to justify and make conditional his sense of regret by Ruth for a really bad about that thing that I said about Antonio brown the impact it had on our friendship but I said the same thing the other guy and he was happy about it so screw a B. it's like the the better off as per her internal monologue playing out for us all to to a a paper and please keep doing the weekly radio thing on ninety three seven the fan in Pittsburgh I I have yet to see a final decision from band please keep doing it it's good for us it's good for us for the sports not good for you per se but that's okay you'll find a way to justify it keep thinking keep keep keep working on on the the those various reasons why you come up with something that will be plausible at least to you it may not be plausible rest of us but we like the contents so please please please band keep doing it I look forward to Tuesday mornings with Ben Roethlisberger because he got a license to call out James Washington if I got a license gaudy on teh Johnson he's the rookie this year he'll take a Dante Moncrief he's trying to establish himself column all out just oncology usually Shuster you reply with a B. next year in Las Vegas not a B. would be happy about that would not be the best if you just miss Schuster an internal brown end up on the same team again at some point our Hey in only eight days will have real football to talk about but the one thing we know about football season once you get started the pressure goes up the chances of guys saying things that maybe they shouldn't say in reacting to those things it it increases each one of those games so important to your effort to try to get to the playoffs that's the beauty of only sixteen games maybe that's why they should only have sixteen games there are some who think they should go back to fourteen games could you imagine that think about how much each and every game would mean if there were only fourteen so it's coming in eight days the first of two hundred fifty six NFL regular season games gets played in and three days later all hell breaks loose with the first full Sunday and off we go into a quick break one return some of the statistics are in on replay review of pass interference so far this preseason I got a couple of observations as I'm trying to work my way through anger to now bargaining depression and acceptance and the reality is we need to accept it because nothing is changing for the start of the season now it may change once the season gets started we pay attention to what's happening but for now we're rolling into the season with some important points to keep in mind especially if you're on the sideline with a red flag that you're considering whether or not to use will discuss all that would have to live continues right after this.

"About that up a certainly not eyes on the fly of those three hundred and five thousand c see nicking chris cantey i have no idea how many wanted steelers' had coach mike tomlin fired didn't matter because these steelers went in a different direction letting go of the offensive coordinator todd haley instead haley had served in the role for the past six seasons but heidi friction filled relationship with quarterback ben roethlisberger chris getting how much pressure is on rothlisberger now that haley is gone too much pollution who's your children she wouldn't quarter are just the twilight of his career no matter how we performs over the next couple of seasons it's not liked the pittsburgh steelers organization is going to push been roth is burn route now sat being said i don't think he was todd haley's fault that this team struggled and didn't get past the jacksonville jaguars in the division round because they were able to score points since the defense side of the ball couldn't stop the jacksonville jaguars offense from scoring points so when you look at that if you want to criticise anyone you gotta criticized key butler the defensive coordinator he hasn't had any answers in terms of how his defense can be productive since they've been missing why she zero out of the lineup that inside linebacker position is a sore spot for the steelers right now i don't know what they do this offseason but they got to dressing whether it's free agency or the draft because i don't think you can rely on ryan she's you're coming back healthy man given this through this was the year of injuries and that's all we talked about was teens either not been on to replace wood with with aaron rogers or teams that were able to find people light case keen on.

"Down by three so this is boom raf this burger he can add all the oh todd was talking to me time didn't make a bad call by telling them to run the play but as a quarterback you have to realise this play is not there what do i do get rid of the football kicked a field going going over time all right so i'm not going to put the loss the entire game on been route 3 played a great game until that moment but that last sequence of course on ben roethlisberger the play prior the play on second down you know you have no time out you know assisi mentioned your down three which means obviously on fourth down your kicking a field goal you have two chances to win the game throwing a short crossing pattern when it's not to antonio brown and overwhelming likely the guy's going to be tackled in bounds is what put you in this position to begin with secondarily ben says on thinking we're going to clock it so we have one more shot you if you are down you wouldn't have had one more day if you clocking you're bringing the field goal unit out there so what you're supposed to do in that spot i understand there's a lot going on it's easier for me to say than benda execute but a future hall of fame super bowlwinning quarterback you would expect to be able to execute it you they didn't have six seconds they had time get to the line and run a real pleasure you could want you can't run a real play when you're yelling clock that agreed might when he should mini l and clock that was in real time nikki had the clock.

"Not just in the nba because i put ben roethlisberger in an elite cata the gory has taken max money before and has pushed his team forward tom brady for a moment did that and then tom brady took less and tom brady has one of the most unique situations not just in american sports now but an american sports history were has a wife who makes just as much money as he does when it comes to the the actual income and then of course he has his additions and all the other things that he has when it comes to offfield hassles like he has with beauty rest and other boots and jim latin unable things are on countless things that we should say and he continues to take less and this is a guy who for all intents and purposes could take max money and danny yemen dollah in patriots fans i don't mean upset she i i know i'm not breaking any ground here then hammond dollas not topend julian element wild nice is not topend the plethora of running backs that you can't even remember even on their on your own favorite team there are not top and guys how many different sets of offense of lima did he have during the two thousand fifteen season wasn't at the most in nfl history since they started keeping that sat nineteen seventy indeed it was tom brady made a work taking less money and what happens every year just like when we were talking about the afc's the patriots win the division every single year they compete in the playoffs and make a deep run basically every single year and they're in the championship chase including winning the championship this last year every single year when a man is willing to take less when it means more than just money that man is a very dangerous man and kevin durant wields a ton of power he's a very dangerous man with the golden state warriors changing the election even on a 73 when team changing.
