Eli Manning and the Hall of Fame: The case for and against

"Ally manning thing announced his retirement on Wednesday retiring after sixteen seasons. He's thirty nine years old The giants quarterback who was of course supplanted by Danny dimes. This year but was a rock for for many years is now heads into retirement and it makes sense Meena In fact as a New York I all my friends are giant spans. I was on a tax change just the day before this news broke. And we're talking about that. Allies GonNA retire probably soon. Because when you look at the landscape with all these older quarterbacks on the market and what allies allies been doing the last couple of years. It never made sense that he was going to find a place to start games or perhaps he didn't want to be a backup. So this all made sense but still it. It is the end of an era in New York. I would love nothing more to come in here and defy I. I think what you all know. I'm about to say about Eli Manning I should not be wh- down calls US football cools right. Yeah I would love to say you know what guys you can't tell the story of football without Eli Manning which by the way why why is he the only person who gets that benefit say that about anyone else other than Eli. There's a lot of guys you can't tell the story of football without Aaron Hernandez put them in the hall of fame or if you want to look at pat super we were both. I mean they don't want any of them without dont`a hightower that's a holiday thing. Greg is compared. Eli Manning to know first. Ten Sahal Hyphen reductionist could be just one thing. You consider about a candidate quite well the few want ally in the holly. It's either two cases. One one is longevity. which is I think? A lot of people throw out. Because there's just too many guys who would get in by that and then the other is the two super bowls in the story thing. That's just not about how I would define it. It just becomes an argument. About how do you define the hall of fame. I think in my case against him has always been and yeah. I've been making this case for probably eight or nine years. So this is how long he's been average He's just been averaged entire career. Average in completion percentage yards per attempt. He's actually really way. Below average in the law of the interception categories passer rating these average. He's just for the time he entered the league to the time he left the league. He was an average quarterback over or that span. I I still don't like that being the conversation though when he retired. I we've had this argument so many times that I think we're just tired of it like we've said everything that there is to say about. Eli Manning in the Hall of Famer Eli Manning in general that. I actually was annoyed almost yesterday that that's the conversation when a really great player who was a big part of the league in you know no matter whether he was a top five quarterback no he never was maybe in two two thousand eleven. I went through it once. I think I had him at a top five quarterback one year top ten quarterback only one other your. Yeah that's not the hall of fame but like immediately the second he retires. The entire conversation is like the start of the public hall of fame. Talk which is GONNA be. Never any people are so confident about what's going to happen you don't I know what's going to happen becoming. We were like you know he will be in. It's like you don't know that I think the manning name like this is not a new thought but just that we've talked about royalty and stuff that he's sort of this. NFL Family fixture that. The people voting for this. I think they're gonNa Push Eli Manning right in not maybe. CBS voters down. The conversation depends on who he's against. Though you're really does. Conversation will be never ending for five years then going in. I'm sorry I don't listen you. Everybody discounts counting stats and cory will get too caught up or only point at the two rings and the two superbowl. MVP's but I just think there's something that'd be so if he didn't win those super bowls he's he's not he's not going to have him. I get that but there's something to be said and it's always been feel overlooked both on this podcast aspect in general. Because Eli can be a target. I feel like on twitter that the giants drafted him or the chargers. Technically but the giants Brought him into the team in two thousand four. They put him in the lineup in around October that year and then they never had to think about the quarterback position again for the next ten eleven eleven twelve years and I know things didn't end very well but they should have been thinking about it so when you're when you're talking about right ten years okay I'm GonNa say ten years when you think about other teams about your Brown's Mark My jets so many other teams in the league that go through constant search a churn looking for a guy and you end up with a stop. Stopgap and a rookie. You stinks and then a stop Gat and then another rookie. And maybe you hit on something. Like the SEAHAWKS got Russell Wilson. They don't have to think about anything. Russell Wilson's a better player than the but he eli for ten twelve years. They put him in there. He did his job. He was not spectacular but he was steady. You never had to worry about him getting hurt because he never did. He's the most durable the player ever. You'd never had to worry about him saying stupid something stupid to the media. He always handled that very well. You never had to worry about him. Getting into like a behind the scenes drama with with a coach and exploding and him being at odds and using the media to get a point across and all that stuff he was a Walter Payton Man of the year guy he was a total title. Good Dude and in those playoff runs. Then you factor that in for me. He rose up in historic way. And then just beat. Anybody didn't beat the Jacksonville. We'll jaguars didn't beat a Pittsburgh. steelers heat the Patriots and he'd be Bill Bell Check and he'd beat Tom Brady. And if if that's not something that should be given added points knowing who the Patriots are and what they represent in this era of NFL football. I'm sorry I disagreed to just kind of view that uh-huh yeah beat the Patriots. No he beat the greatest team of all time the greatest quarterback in the greatest head coach. I think that means a lot. His team did right playing. Okay Ah in that Super Bowl. I don't think he would say he had the best game. Even the play he's known for is crazy play. That could never be replicated. The two twenty eleven run is what I remember most fondly. Va Man. I think people kind of forget that won the last game of the regular season that they played it was against the cowboys and then the three league games in the NFC playoffs and that Super Bowl he had a collection of some of the most improbable. Low percentage awesome throws goes for five weeks. Stretch that you'll ever see Joe flacco kind of had a somewhat similar run any add little moments like that the year after they won the Super Bowl two thousand eight. He was really good throughout the year but they didn't win the Super Bowl because if eli manning they want it because of their defense I mean they wanna because of Justin Tuck and he learned of it. It's equally reductive to me to say. They won because of the argue he was part of it took to get into the. I mean the kind of connected back to the HIGHTOWER. No one's out here making a case for hightower you kind of do you. You like to throw this one in. I is the single most important outside of Brady and Gronk like the Patriots. Don't have this run of Super Bulls without dont`a hightower. I think I don't think belongs in the hall of fame but you could every all of the cases were making for. Eli You could just as easily make for like twenty other other random playwright quarterback a case you've made for you. I think is the case. Why he's a great memorable? NFL figure. It's just that's different than in. Our weather also talked about about it forever his position he was not a top ten quarterback. I would say for every year but two of his career. There's no one in the hall of fame you can say they've also said forever. You're in West. You've quoted Vince Lombardi on this that the quarterback it just the most important for a position or a position where the spotlight as and that comes with way. More pressure To it then dot high tower where his position is. I just think what you I was able to do in that spot in those two years is something you can't take away from. I and and say oh he was carried to titles. Because I don't I just don't see it that way. I think you've you stated the case very well. I think it falls shy of the hall of fame. I think if you're a jets fan like Dan or you're the browns fan and you've seen nothing but Ship wrecked chaos at the quarterback position. That the the idea that you would draft someone who would play as Eli did before a PR stunt got him benched you know. Couple of years twelve years of sixteen starts and by the way we are stunned. Got Him benched. He got himself well. That's fine but I'm saying but also the disrespect I just giants fan and you draft draft Philip rivers and he. He did what he did. But you get Eli Manning out of it and you know. He's going to win two super bowls in essentially a total ironman at the position. He's a hall of fame to a lot of giants fans I get. I don't think he belongs to the meeting. Early either reading a story just reading up on allies career. I completely forgot the whole two thousand seventeen. At what evidence do you have that that he was actually involved in something more serious than being a member in something and being with other men who had hateful tendencies but at this point might have been charged with weapons possession getting involved with with hallucinogenic drugs and being in the country illegally. And they've they've undertaken things like paramilitary her military training camps involving weapons and all. This isn't supported something. They believed to be a race war or an insurgency against the state. And I can tell you as well that groups like this have also been interested in what will happen in the twenty twenty election and they see this as a moment of of of acceleration of race war and these arrests I I think are the FBI getting ahead of it. Is there any evidence of anything. Indicates they were actually going to go through with these plans or was this the the rhetoric cover uh of a group of men who were living some kind of a fantasy sixty clear. I've never seen any evidence that Mr Matthews planning terrorist attacks or anything of that nature nor that reported anything like that but there have been general discussions inside of these groups on something called direct action which is code for terrorist attacks one of their components opponents of this was to be able to perform assassinations bombings without being caught. Mr Matthews was his alleged involvement with the this neo-nazi Group was exposed by the Winnipeg free press and Mr Matthews House was raided by the EPA. Why do you think that the RCMP never charged him with anything Well they are seeing he. Soon after. That loss contacted Mr Matthews. He went over the border but I can tell my past experiences. They are cespedes and particularly good at Policing and understanding domestic terrorism whether it be jihadist international network or a group of the base but the proof is in the pudding the FBI. Taking this quite seriously and is now gone so forest to level Mr Matthews with charges and arrest him. Do you think that if the allegations against these men if it had been isis and not neo-nazis. Do you think the police would have treated this case differently. Well Carol I can tell you that as you know. I've reported on Isis and Al Qaeda and I've I've experienced this as a reporter pressures from the state and interest from the state when you have a member of an insurgent group like the base crosses over an international border order and it's reported just imagine if that had been an isis fighter. The type of manhunt that would have ensued. If if that had happened. I think I think it's not a departure from reality to think that it would have been taken far more seriously. Then we will be following the developments here and I appreciate speaking with you thank you. Thanks Mr Adamou Ben. mcadoo reports reports on national security for Vice News. New York Jets head coach Adam Gase responds to support

"Adam Gates in his first season as head head. Coach of the New York jets his record today to end seven nevertheless interesting time for a vote of confidence jet CEO. Christopher Johnston said yesterday Ah Adam gays will return for the two thousand twenty season here is the jets CEO. I want to ensure you there would be no changes changes in coaches Adam. How's the trust of this team as the trust Sam? Joe's trust he has my trust. He's a good man. He's a good coach. There is a lot of work to. There's a great deal of to everyone understands And we're just getting started. I feel really good good Memphis team moving forward anytime you get support from ownership the way that the staff Scott supported. The old has gone way. Obviously we wanted We got a lot of games are jobs improve this team and go out and try to win games every week. And he's with us through every step within our communication with him so he kind of knows what we've been trying to do how we're we're trying to fix things that are that are wrong so no to get his support for him to Kinda see what we're trying to do. It's that's an important step fluish. Well that was Adam Gatien course responding to the SAGA lineup. Was He trying to avoid eye. Contact Tech High. We're out here. Do you find that the timing at all interesting or Steve. Young made the point. Yesterday Robert was a good time to do it. So people stop asking the question. I mean it is a good time. Just say. Hey He's going to be here next year but look he's been there one year having hasn't been a great year for him but you know look overall head coaching record. He's about forty a two percent. When winning percentage he wins about forty two percent of the time? So you know. It doesn't look so great for him moving forward but look he's got the support Ownership they're going to give him one more year and I can guarantee that next year if they're in the same position that they're not going to be so lenient on giving him another year. So Oh you look at what. NFL coaches are nowadays. They have guaranteed contracts. I highly doubt they WanNa give him a nice contract and then just release him halfway through his I well it gets to be an expensive decision. Yeah and that's a really great point because ownership obviously is invested in their pick. They want their pick to look good exam. You know you don't WanNa WanNa give up on what you decided so quickly although that has happened to certain coaches inside right around the league. But you can't forget that even even when Todd Bowles was there that the jets were ten and six in their first season and it was really bad. Blow to this team to the supper loss against the Miami Dolphins and just some of the adversity city that they've gone through since Particularly when there's been a lot of expectations with Sam darnold presidents on that team. Well Yeah. He was brought in large part to work with a young quarterback to develop SAM. Darnold help him take the next step. What's interesting is that they share the same stadium with the giants are struggling as well? Now in this case Pat Shurmur is in his second year as a head coach. But look they're coming off the bye. They've lost six straight. What's the word around his future? Well Adam gays was asked recently just how secure he is in his job in one of the ways in which which he retorted. What's to say I'm built for this? Just projecting confidence which you would expect the head coach to do. But I would be remiss to mention that some of the reporters in New York noted that was kind of the same something that Ben mcadoo said three weeks before the giants got rid of him and and clearly this is not the adversity or excuse me what they were looking to results wise to be having right now coming off of in two years of What they endured under Ben mcadoo but the reality is promising as Daniel Jones has looked particularly when he's throwing the ball With with the return of Saquon this is not what they were looking for. They're still suffering losses even with saquon on the field. I mean he has not had over sixty five rushing yards in the last three times he played. Hey only had two one hundred rushing yard games. That was in the first two weeks Daniel Jones continues to have issues with the interceptions. Fumbles and things of what have you and it has has. It was altered in wins. And you can't neglect the fact that this is in New York and teams with that media pressure there as well. It won't stop. It's hard to perform with a rookie quarterback though in this in this league it's not they had veteran it didn't it didn't work out. He still there by the way. He's still there. But look in this league. It's hard for a young quarterback to come in and be successful and I just think that we're witnessing growing pains of a young quarterback trying to figure his way Out through a hard schedule last year at this time he was done you know now. He's about halfway through so I mean it's it's a lot more difficult. I agree with you. Rob The only issue of course with the New York giants dances. They've had a lot of these same problems whether it was a long-term veteran quarterback or a yet stroup Such a great point. And so then you start to have to ask other kinds of questions

"Did you ever have any bad experiences when you were in San Antonio meet show because the bad problem? There is something that seems alarming. They've got a mascot that runs out with a net and the costume to attack the bats every time they. Here you have any San Antonio is an awful place to play story. No. I love playing the fans are generally genuinely warm Holly. Because they I think they at least when I played they always knew they were going to win. So they never had any need to be really mean. Nicer winning will make you. Got the funniest thing from the sports weekend. Being the New York Giants picking up the option on ally. Man. I can't believe what happened there. Ben mcadoo had the strength was the general manager at the time Ben mcadoo had the strength to bench ally. Manning and move on into the future and everything that's happened since then is the Mara siding with ally. Manning and now they get rid of Oto Beckham instead of ally. Manning did you anyone in our audience have the idea a couple of years ago? Think about this got the idea that ending would still be there. But ode L Beckham wouldn't be no one. How is that possible? Or what you've been waiting for is next. We're gonna do stump the meat, which Onomichi cattleman that's out. But wasn't Gilman was it. I don't think it was Gettleman. I think it was Ben macadear. And I think it's the maros like you still what the reaction was when they benched Eli manning. The next move was just dump everybody in management for fending. The great Eli manning and his to ring soup donlevatar, he referred to the yellow sauce at a botchy restaurant as young sauce. If these seven percent of the audience said, no stugatz. "So he can get it done. And it's nice to actually get a chance to do it as you say they they punted third receiver. And I kind of have the feeling that that will just continue. We could see Cody Latimer back. I wouldn't be angry at that. Core. Coleman showed enough. I think is a kick returner to earn us at least another look. So he might get it. Personally. I've been fairly vocal about this. I'd like to see. Them us too tight end base package in basically use Evan Ingraham as their third receiver. Well, that's a great transition. Let's talk about. Because again, I think we continue to see when you look back on the production at tight end you can't help. But really think about Ingram's usage on. It was a problem with Ben mcadoo in seventeen and I think he continued especially in the beginning part of this season. So last year Ingram was like the waste of fishing tight end. He was like the worst among tight ends in Devia way. Which is football outsiders efficiency metric, he was just continually use on on shallow crossing rows. And not use up the seem. I think that was that is something that continued this year. Of course, he he did have some injuries than the beginning of the year and was fighting those a little bit so Ingram ended up finishing nineteenth this year. Among tight ends in Devi. So that's a little better. He got used a little more like he should. Toward the end of the year, but I would still white to see more. So when you're looking at the tight end group, it just feels incomplete because there's so much more that could have been done. Oh, definitely the fact that he had as good a rookie season as he did with how he was being used basically three and five yard crossing routes. Just a steady diet of that all year long. You have to wonder how good he could have been if they'd actually used him efficiently and gotten the most out of him. Yep. Maybe the same as how Washington uses Jordan Reed or Vernon Davis or how this year San Francisco used gray Kittle. But then we did start to see especially after Adele got hurt at the end of this year him get used a lot more like he should have started to get again moved around a little bit more. He played out of the backfield. Some he got he actually got. Some touches in the run game, which was fun to say and they actually used him downfield. Those two games directly after the bye week where they didn't even look at him until the fourth quarter. But he want up coming up with huge catches down the field that basically put them in position to win those games. And really that's how he should be used a lot more. We tend to gloss over his blocking ability, but he's not a bad blocker. So that's not a reason to take him off the field and. His ability is as receiver mean he really should be in the game as an active part in of the game. All the way through yet to go back to your blogging things. Sports.

"Joe a good afternoon. How are you has everything? I appreciate out introduction. Let's well where it's well. Deserved. It's well deserved. No question about it. Thank you for the job that you've been doing for the family all year long covering and the and the NFL would all the stories you have done this year. Josefina what has stood out most to you about this particular NFL season as Super Bowl fifty three approaches? Well, the story that would stand out to me is not necessarily a Super Bowl related. But obviously I cover the giants a lot. And it's still remarkable to me that they are eight and twenty four and two seasons. And that there was absolutely no change going from Ben mcadoo to Pat Shurmur in terms of all the reasons that they may to make the transition was too first and foremost open up that offense. And so for everything to kind of be the same way. And for the organization has such a big decision on ally. Manning with the twenty three million dollar cap it the offense still not being prolific down the field. I think it'll be very interesting to see what happens with that scenario in terms of does ally. Manning take a pay cut, you know, get them and set at the end of the season that he wanted to line by line go through every game to see and address for himself the decision that he wants to make on ally. So I think it'd be very interesting to see. E that. And then the other thing would be just to see what happens with obviously on Tonio Brown to see what happens with the Sean Jackson, whose expressed you know, displeasure with his situation in Tampa. And ultimately to see if Odell hangs around in well, New York, stay with those two points. See that'd be I'll stay with the giants. I before I go to the shore Jackson and then Antonio Brown receivers in the NFL considered somewhat, prima donnas. And I don't know how accurate that is. But we'll get to that. In a second. Let me stay with the giants in this particular equation saquon, balk these obviously incredibly incredibly special number two overall pick in the NFL draft. But because of how bad e- live looked at some junctures during this NFL season has there ever been a time in your reporting where you got the sense that they wished that they had grabbed a quarterback with the number two overall pick instead of saquon Barkley not because of him because we know he's great. But because of how ally manning look and how important quarterback was. Mission is I got the feeling that people prefer a quarterback that was more suitable for the you know, talent that they have that wide receiver in terms of being more mobile to help get around and ofensive line that they're still trying to augment though, you know, you hear a lot in New York. Oh, the offense in line the offensive line. Oh, well, we didn't have the running back then you got they want. But then you did at you know, pieces at left tackle, and they'd soldier that left guard and and and your center, and then it was still the same result. So you heard wanting to have a more mobile quarterback help get around the offensive line..

We'll get off the Hake stuff so bad visual, Adam gays, Adam gays in his introductory press conference in front of the New York media, which Neog media. They're really nice, right and cool way. We are the New York. Oh, yes shit. Yeah. No, they're all media leat. So he had maybe the weirdest like, I don't even know what it was is is were just darting everywhere. He had a weird face. He looked like he was being held hostage. And I don't want to be a complete reactionary knee-jerk reaction guy. But he's done. He cannot survive in the big city. Jim, Tom souls. They got little when he did. Remember that press? No, not the fart the first one when they asked him like what type of defense. He was like sweating everywhere. If you have a bad, I and pression you're done this kind of thing can fly, you know, we'll let it slide and small markets like Miami, and Chicago, but you come to New York, you can't bomb your first press conference like this just can't it's going to chase you around. It's gonna follow you right behind. He looked like he was an alien who is just learning. What cameras were for the first time as they were asking these questions, I actually googled Adam gays, Terrell the because I didn't know if I was like missing out on something. "And that's let's talk about this more with click cliff Kingsbury if that's where we're going next. Yes. I think that's a big part of that with the cardinals. Clings cliff Kingsbury tough to say going to have to get used to the lease for one to three years cliff? Kingsbury who was the Texas Tech head coach didn't work out. He got canned takes a job as it. Use at USC hard things to say, and then finds out a bunch of teams are looking for the next Sean McVeigh wiggles out of the deal moves into an interview process meets with the cardinals the jets decides Arizona's where he was coach he is now the new head coach of the cardinals. Wes, what were you gonna say there's all this criticism that it's such a risky higher. It's not a safe move. Well, who safe John FOX, Jeff Fisher, right? Was Steve Wilk safe any lasted one year because he had a sub NFL offense. How about every if it's safe, right? How about every coach that just got fired where those were those safer. Not like if you're if you're an owner or a team president you're looking around the league in you see Doug Peterson with Carson Wentz. Nick, foles you see Frank Reich with. Andrew luck. You see Matt Nagy with Mitch Trubisky. You see Sean McVay with Jared Goff. All these guys got immensely better quickly. You also see those four guys offense of minds come in. And they get Phillips Vic Fangio GM shorts. They get some of the best defensive coordinators in the business because nobody's hiring defensive coordinators, head coaches. So there's a much bigger field. If you hire Steve Wilks he fires his offense coordinator halfway through the season you hire. Vance Joseph fires coordinator halfway through the season. Ma-? Patricia fires coordinator after one season. There's just a much better. If you're an owner you like why wouldn't hire the offense coordinator have my cake and eat it too. Because he's going to hire a great defense of coordinator people kill cliff Kingsbury four the college record. And none of us watched any of those games. Let's be honest. But they that was a team at Texas Tech that were the offense. What he's meant to be good at right was prolific in fantastic the defiant, they deep. It's the players didn't go to that team, essentially. And they were losing because of that side of the ball. I mean, he's good at what he's meant to be good at and they needed to do this for Josh Rosen who probably has PTSD coming off last season. One of the worst situations rookie quarterback could be in. So you're giving him a shot to be with someone who's creative and new and and let that relationship blend not a small thing. If you hire an offense of coach he's going to be there for a few years. You're not gonna be changing offensive coordinator the concern. I think with Kingsbury specifically though is his staff. So what kind of staff is he going to put together, Sean McVay had been in the NFL had connections. Even Matla floors been in the NFL. Maybe Kingsbury does put together a great staff. There's rumors he might hire the Texas State coaches offense coordinator, that's not as big a higher. We haven't heard about who he's gonna bring in. But he's he's causing a lot of excitement. I was pretty impressed that the Zona cardinals changed all their Twitter names to AirAsia cardinals with. K I mean that's buying in. That's branding. With just any other thoughts on the Zona job before we move on. Oh, he's I believe cliff is four years older than Larry FitzGerald. So another very young thirty nine and younger than I I have another. This is his agents. Great whoever he is. I mean, the second he lost his job at technical agent talk. And also a guy that can put the right people in you know, Matt Nagy was benefited from the fact that when he took over the bears job. He was given a great defensive coordinator in Vic Fangio that's helped them Sean may benefit, and I guess I give them credit because I think he had a lot to do with bringing in Wade. Phillips to be one of his coordinators. I think you benefit from that. Ben mcadoo as the head coach going to bring Ben mcadoo and a coaching staff. That's fine. There are guys who can get another opportunity as a head coach Todd Bowles may be one of them. Adam gays will probably get it before one of about to say, but they probably need to go back be coordinator. Like, Pat Shurmur think about the mistakes they made learn from the mistakes they made and then maybe get a second opportunity. More your calls coming up next..

"I just gave you the reason. I'd be okay with either one of those guys for the jets third. I'm going to go Mike Smith the former Atlanta falcon head coach recently fired from the box defensive coordinator. And in that scenario, if you hire Mike Smith who was a great leader, great leader experience head coach experienced coach in general, but an experience head coach great leader has had success. If you look at what he did with the Atlanta Falcons. I mean, I don't know how you could dispute it. I don't know how a guy hasn't gotten another crack head coach. It's teams aren't doing their due diligence on this. The giants almost hired before they heard that dope. Ben mcadoo. What a mistake that was probably get scared off because the giants thought oh public perception is Mike Smith isn't a sexy pick always a good pick. And it'll be even better than he was with Valentine's because it's the second go round. But in that scenario where you hire a guy who was defensive guy you, and I know they would never do this. But you asked me my opinion, I'm telling you my top three. That's where you can think about hiring a guy life like cliff Kingsbury to be the offensive coordinator. You get that great young offensive mind in with the true leader of men a good leader of football team. A good proven NFL coach yet Kingsbury run the offense or coming up with schemes offensively Smith as leader. I think it's a better head coach coordinator. There you get your guy Kingsbury, and you go from there or you hire cutter along with Mike Smith they worked together before. So that would be my third choice. You asked I told eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six we'll finish up with your calls. Anything you feel like talking about tonight? Whatever it is on our final twenty minutes or so before we handed over.

"Dealer or what have over there. Christopher just some other stuff. We kind of talked about ready giants GM. Dave Gettleman talk today, of course, asked directly about E Y. Manning would not commit to E Y for next year said, quote, here's what I'm committed to do. I'm committed to making the best decision in the interests of the giants were in the evaluation process. I know you want answers now we're trying to build sustained success that takes brutal honesty and some tough decisions not at a no-holds-barred conversation with ER. Yeah. But he was asked can you guarantee? Eli a winning team next year. Because again, the question is not going to be anything. But do you want to play next year Eli that's the question? It's him. He is given enough service and his one two championships and got Ben mcadoo d- in favor of Gino Smith. I'm using it as verbs. Yeah. Okay. That he has earned the right as much as you might not like it. To say do you want to play next year or not and his answer would be? Well, what are we going to do to build the team, and you could say well, your problem yourself? But that's the reality, right? Dental was asked can you guarantee a win in his thick New England? Accent said all you Yankees fans in the ruin thought you'd win one hundred sixty two games last year. That was his answer. Also asked del Beckham. If he would be on the team next year said we didn't sign him. If we didn't want him, please. Giants. The giants are not a mess. Table jets. The jets have the giants are not a mess. The giants. I don't think a mess they need to protect ally. Manning and go find his successor. Now this year their sixth overall, go find him. You think Eli starts week one? I do if he wants to. That's a fact that's the reality. If he wants to it's not the giants are not going to tell you on if manning wants to play again, he's got one more year left on his contract if he wants to play again, they're not gonna cut him and watch him go try and do what Joe Nemeth did put on a charger uniform. I'm not saying you would do that. But a forty nine or uniform or whatever then I'm going to do that. And nor does he want to. I think he wants to play one more year if he does and he'll do what the giants. And then the giants will figure out what they will do for the successor. And I'm not saying they're married to him for all sixteen games that might have been the tough part of the conversation. Forget Gettleman who say look, we'll give you September next year. This is fact, this is the way we're willing to do it. If if we can't have for Pat Shurmur sake, my sake franchises sake, a one in three one and four start. And if we do have that and we have a kid that we're going to draft we're gonna play him most likely on their team next year and Tonio Brown UI manning, Nick foles, Joe flacco, you I didn't stutter. What else you over just looking at some of the coaching interview? Rumors cliff Kingsbury being reportedly interviewing for the cardinals. And the jets opening how about that Texas Tech not good enough for them. No. And but he's good enough for two. That's the the NFL. Mcvay and Nagy, and they want some young dynamic crazy ass schemer to try and do for them. What McVeigh did in Los Angeles. And what Nagy did in Chicago for their highly drafted second year quarterback? Just like Sam darnold, right? I also Kingsbury coach Patrick Mahomes in college. And I think we're seeing that. Yeah. Daniel Jeremiah's tweet DJ's tweet like how awkward is that in the building and USC where the offense coordinator, they just hired is getting knocked on the door from the NFL and their head coach has no such situation. Head coach coaches, barely still the head coach at USC Bengals are going to be interviewing Hugh Jackson has of course, they are. It's fantastic. Maybe Korn ferry may did corn or ferry tell them that Jackson. Also in the running for Vikings offensive coordinator down in Tampa. Looks like the bucks are interested in Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. What do you think Mike? Enough enough Notre Dame who do you? What would you take? It Notre Dame. Chuck why is he still down the payroll? Chuck, why appears he's involved in the in the. Somebody said the other day, and I agree with he actually did bring us back to some winning football. And I give him that much. But at the same point he can't win the game. Take it blow it out in the ticket. You cannot not score a touchdown in the championship game. Like that. That's like, are you kidding me? Sorry,.

"I don't know. I don't know who that wild factor. Is yet. I don't know if there is a while fact, it'd be honest. There's nothing there McCarthy is a good head coach. I don't think it's a great coach. I think he's a good solid head coach the jets could do much worse than Mike McCarthy. Yeah. I'm a believer that McCarthy would struggle in New York and simply because McCarthy struggled in Green Bay and with the media, and I'm talking about rough media. And when you're talking about Green Bay media made. Let's let's be honest. I mean, let's give me a break. And the other thing you gotta remember that you don't have in Green Bay don't have an owner. Now that saying that you know, what are your Christopher Johnson or George Steinbrenner? Right. Well, you've got somebody to report to the jet hierarchy is a little weird anyway. And the coach they talk separately to Christopher that silliness to me. But I wonder if McCarthy if things start to go sideways, which things always go sideways at some point if he if he had a hard time trying to settle down with the Green Bay media with the fact that he had a lot of leeway Super Bowl winner. And. Constant you know, playoff team. I'm a little concerned with him. When things go sideways in New York that said, I do think he's good head coach. Yeah. I mean, look could they do worth. Oh, yeah. A lot worse. But he knows if I have he's almost like a fallback position. If nothing else, I will take the guy's. Yeah. I I'll say this though. I don't think the jets are gonna have the chance out of anyway, I think he's going to Cleveland I do between the better gig between the job being better. I think Cleveland's interested and most importantly the connection between Dorsey and McCarthy bear, right? And if you're McCarthy, why wouldn't you wanna work for Dorsey? Why wouldn't you want a young quarter? Why wouldn't you want all the things that Cleveland can give you and you've got a general manager where you've got a connection with the jets? He's got to get along with McCartney doesn't get control. So to me Cleveland's job is a lot more appealing. If I'm Mike McCarthy. And even if you have problems with Green Bay media that part of the country that he's known everybody Chicago area. Yeah. Yeah. But I think culture shock could become New York a little bit. Yeah. I'm Ben mcadoo's from around here who's from Pennsylvania. But I think he caught a little bit of it. Maybe that's just partly his personality. I'm not saying McCarthy's Ben mcadoo as personnel because McCarthy could handle a locker room at handle a team. He's a leader. The biggest knock on Ben mcadoo. Wasn't the fact that he had no idea how to speak to the media. He wasn't a leader has locker room didn't respect them. They turned on him a heartbeat start in that last year. That was the biggest problem. I don't think McCarthy is going to have that issue. I just wonder if things go sideways, like I said, you gotta be able to you got to know how to talk to the man you can say what's worrying about how he talks to the media. Look reality is if you go against the media, you fight them. It will make your job ten times harder, New York. It just will look. I. Jakoda Mangini did not do a bad job. He turned on by the media. Let's go back and look at what he did. It was the media that helped push him out the door because the fans turned on him because the media turned on him. And it's just the way it is. You look you can be a pain in the button all that win if you winning, and that's the thing the first year men, gene genius. You know, ten Wednesday was winning. Let's we'll be ten and six I think it was what foreign twelve then there were nine and seven and farms arm fell off in the back end of the season. And that was enough to show him the door. Yeah. Not a band. Then you saw what we're ex Ryan came in with his team. And you saw what he did. It's when you fight that fight unless your ballot check you lose ship you've got to win consistently. And it's hard to do that. And McCarthy again, I don't want to put them into that area. I just wonder if he would struggle in this market, and I got the feeling he would never seven three thousand seven sixty six sixty six Lewis anytime anywhere. Download radio dot com app today. We've got the Yankees a little bit with the troika whiskey on board. The jet started here. There. Look for coach giants what are you going to do with the quarterback situation? This stuff is starting to perk up a little bit. Let's go to Brian in Jacksonville. Brian you're on the fan. Yeah. Thanks for taking the call. I I'm calling. I wanna talk about the NFL playoffs this weekend. I I'm really prejudiced. But because you're listening to the fan, I feel sorry. How can you be a fan of the jets for the Mets? Organizations. They're dysfunctional. The ownership is specific. Fan. I just don't understand that. The fans love their team. They can't stand ownership because whenever you always seem to be doing something wrong. But there's no hope. There's always hope the.

"Don. Sal licata on the fan. Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six before you back to the calls producer Connor and board op, Ed maybe you guys can help me because the last couple of nights here. I think this is my first ever, by the way, I've been here started the fan of two thousand three as an intern and been on and off this is my third stint here. I think it's my first ever back to back doing two shows in a row here, which is great. They won last night. They want again tonight, I'll have one Thursday. So I'm excited about that. One thing is though the tweets come in. And then people critique your performance and things like that. And yesterday got one stop yelling or whatever may. And then I get another one tonight saying I'd be happier. If you could use your indoor voice just once in a while, do I am I I don't understand. I'm just talking passionately about sports. I'm confused by this people saying that I'm yelling or any to use an indoor voice. I mean, what are you guys what he has thinking? Well, you do get worked up. But I think that's just the passion showing through. So I don't think it's a big deal that you get a little bit. All right. You'd rather than be completely monotone and boring board op, Ed what do you? I'm what to get down a Yellen on air, man. You know, sometimes you just gotta let it out. And okay, that's eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six. We'll give cliff Kingsbury is the guy the jets one interview. I think that that's fine. The guy's been a quarterback whisper. I mean, you know, he did win thirty five games at Texas Tech. He lost forty but he wound thirty five Mike McCarthy was okay. He'd be a decent choice. Thomas. Thomas. You're on the fan. Thomas you there? Hey, sorry, Sal, how are you? I'm doing great love that you're on N, but back to clip Kingsbury. This happens every year when it comes to coaches when it comes to quarterback. Why does every organization has to be the smartest person the room right at people that have to combine thinking full season. Like, you said you have Mike Smith Jim called Mike McCarthy and the jets just across town. The giants tried to be the smartest people in the room. Hiring thirty eight year old Ben mcadoo terrible. Why does this happen every year with organizations constantly take people? You know, we're going to stop trying to outsmart everyone, right? You know, why Thomas is an excellent point is because they're trying to copycat the other teams that have success like, Sean McVeigh, for example. Oh my goodness. How did the Rams get him? He came out of nowhere with the Redskins. We need to find a guy like that. And that's a roll out. Exactly. You've been around forever. They know that. Well, I mean, what are we now know, but, but you would think that they should know that that it doesn't work like that. And look for every Sean McVay. I mean, there are busts all over the place guys that were hot coordinators offensive minds and gurus and all these different things. So I would just be looking to hire and all around NFL head coach, and I would be looking to limit my risks, and or van wagon and says we want to limit the question marks. Well, how do you do that you hire a guy that's more known than the other Mike McCarthy with his resume you pretty much know what you're getting. I mean is he guaranteed to win the Super Bowl? No, nobody is. But you know, areas name has been thrown out there. He was in last year. You think maybe he would come at least talk to him. He's another one. I mean looking and again experience head coach who's had some success. So those are the type of guys thanks for the call Thomas. I appreciate it. Those are the type of guys that I would be looking at. I've said this before I'll say it again, my number one candidate if I had a head coaching vacancy..

"The jets don't have anything around him and for the first twelve eighteen months of his career the new york giants are going to look like they were brilliant passing on him and taking saquon barkley because running backs transition much easier high school to college college to pros than quarterbacks do very rarely do you see a quarterback in high school go to college and star very rarely do you see a college quarterback come into the nfl star even carson went was bumpy as a rookie andrew luck through a lot of pixellated a lot of mistakes rookie peyton manning early in his career made a lot of mistakes sam darnold gonna be real choppy as first year but years three through thirteen the giants will regret passing on him and taking a running back who year thirteen will or to be out of national football league ben mcadoo yes sam darnold imperfect the top five guy is in the league i like for the next decade i love these guys and i got concerns with all of them joy tatum the news this is the headline news stick with quarterbacks cleveland browns rookie baker mayfield has a fan currently in the minor leagues tim tibo tvos rumbled ponies playing in akron and he had this to say about the number one overall pick sure that their 'bout sands disappointed in it but i will say this that i think that they're making some moves to give themselves a chance i'm friends with baker and i think he's going to do a good job i just saw them two days ago i think he's really focused on trying to prove that he was worth it and i think he's gonna do good job to them are similar and they both have chips on their shoulders the way tim tebow good baseball player you know what a good athlete i never bought into the tim tibo and building my football franchise around him but when i watched him tumble highlights on youtube he looks like he could play in the big i'm not saying he's gonna be mike trout but good for tim tibo i loved that he chased his dream and he's actually he's a heck of a baseball player he is so polarizing always fascinated me ten tibo people people either like tim tibo or they truly like it can't even explain how much they hate these hard to hate i think he's easy to doubt as quarterback i don't think he's i never hated him i just doubted that that kind of thing could work mtpa makes people crazy but hopefully baker mayfield ceiling in football is a little higher than tim tvos so new panther's offense coordinator north turner knows cam newton can light it up but he wants to see more consistency from his starting quarterback so in a recent interview with sirius xm nfl radio he said this the one thing that i think when you look at it that we'll gonna work hard to help them is he has a large number for his quarterback grading as high as england's in that high nineties hundred in the middle of that of a sixteen game season is a four or five games where that rating is not very good and that obviously makes your average not as good as you buy so what we're going to try to work hard for is eliminate the peaks and the valleys and try to on a weekly basis make it more consistent i think that will help us off into it'd be more consistent and certainly will help him hearing this i've always felt like this was cams biggest issue is that he can be so dynamic and so great and then the next week it's like where who are you where did you go what happens because.
