Just find the ball. Also the fact that, you know, we're very big on siblings and sports, you know, because you always hear about demanding when they play the blah blah. There's so many sets of siblings that never get mentioned. And just for those two, two sisters on the same squad, like leaders in the Players Association. Dynamic star on television, the other is a former MVP of the league. That is definitely and then there's a third sister I know who played D one ball and was drafted and I don't know if she hung on in the W I think she's been in and out of the league, but yeah, definitely think about the Bosa family. We got obviously the Kelsey's and we can go through all the brothers and sisters who are playing sports at home. There's so many. But yeah, I had a blast out there. We were gonna do our top ten NFL teams. However, I feel like we might be up against it. And we gotta let that breathe a little bit. You know, because they're definitely hot debates. 12 or 13 teams I was looking at, but I only made a list of ten. Because it's a top ten list. They had like two more. Sometimes they're a top ten list I know on this show that often feature 12 or 13 entries on the list. This is a true top ten. It was tough though to narrow down the top ten. It was tough. And there's some there's some heavy themes that come up in that movie which is why it's important to share with the next generation and makes you think about the relationship with your parents and your own place in the universe. Some heavy stuff. Eight-year-old starts to realize the world's bigger than themselves eight-year-old starts to realize that there was a pass that existed before them the perfect time to sit down and watch a movie like that. When a pro football team could end up doing something that only one other pro football team has ever done on paper with the twenty two. The we got back. Is that a possibility. Yes oh del tufo ran. "Where do you think is future. Stars are going in the nba when it comes to some of these other businesses. Well i mean it's an i loved it. It's a no-brainer with your lamelo on your luca's. Probably on and stuff like that like my whole like. Do you want to call it. A game plan top shot with like. Here's one. this is the start of this if this actually last for twenty years and how could series one basically the rookie. You know and a lot of these players. Their first moment on top shot. How could that not have value in the future. Now whether or not that pays off. Who knows but that was my whole plan. So i was just trying to get as many sort of young stars that i think people also like 'cause that was another thing it was like. Oh you know you better get you on. His balance unison series one moment. I'm like. I love one judas. He's not cool player. Like people want booker. They want back levin. They went down to the mitch. Those type of guy so that was my whole game plan but yeah i mean lamelo. An actual true rookies. And i don't know if you've seen any summer league. I know i've been sort of like just starting to dabble in here as it started like. Yeah you just bet on some of these kids like that like jalen. Green in this first game looks amazing. I'm watching it at home. And i'm like i sort of miss it and then i'm enjoying it and on the other hand i'm like oh god thank god. I'm not there. We go to douglas for like thirteen or fourteen days straight. that is that'll kill man And yeah you want to go to the biggest vegas. Everybody knows two three or four days tops But yet two weeks so. I don't miss that art but it is a it's like if you have never gone and you are a basketball sickle. Like i am try and get there with friends at some point again for a couple of days. Don't stay for the whole thing because it is it's just a blast Sort how up. Close you get to a lot of these players and just even other. Nba superstars like just roll into the building. It's not like you're not obviously going up to them to check in their hand and taking photos like ben lyons taking a photo with every celebrity on earth as guy. "And it's wild what comes up. Who forgot who. You didn't include what you focused on for ninety seconds of the four minutes. Now you're asking these men to get up there with who are emotional. And and in front of thousands of people to sum up their football lives in seven minutes. It's hard and i think the guys did an incredible job. I think having those parameters everybody knew. Hey this is what it is this year. Everybody's stepped up and was able to to deliver moments that that were again honoring. The work that they had done is football players. Educating the next generation of football fans as to who they were and what made their journeys special and inspiring people. Who when you watch. Kurt warner talk about almost being homeless and living out of a car with his family and counting the pennies in the seat of the car to figure out their next move and saying to himself. My family deserves better than this this. It's incredible and that's inspiring and the fact that he able so much of life and so much of these guys journeys is just keep going. There's so many exit roads exit pass. You can take on the football journey and your journey in your own life but the determination to keep going we talk a lot about it on this show ben lyons in for rich on the richeisenshow will have jim trotter from the nfl network coming up in about forty minutes or so. He was on the ground in canton. Ohio we talk so much about greatness. Achieving at how hard it is to be on top of the mountain but then as sports fans we say do it again get back to the mountain. Amazing moment i think family to a real theme i talked about kurt warner and acknowledging his family charles woodson singing to his mom on stage. Peyton manning you knew us going to get up there and give a slick funny self deprecating monologue. He's done saturday night live. He's done all the commercials. He was very funny. Took some shots at brady. But then when he got talking about his dad that's when his voice broke When he started talking about archie and he started talking about family. And that's when the persona the charisma may be kinda came off a little bit and the person was in there the man and the vulnerability and as an emotional moment. I think so family a huge theme this weekend and yeah nostalgia. I mean i remember watching peyton. Manning's career tennessee. Now here. he is with a gold bus in the hall fair. It's kinda makes you start to get introspective in your own journey in your own life. Think about where you are now and who surrounding you was part of it back then and a lot of emotions for men who don't typically show emotion who aren't encouraged. They're always yeah. That's such an inch elebrate. Interesting point ben. 'cause like it's the nfl. They wear helmets. They wear pads. They are shielded from the fans who cheer from them in that aspect and they're taught from a very young age to be warriors and gladiators and tough and shake it off and to not show emotion. And that's who we see. Their entire college careers their entire pro careers. And then this one moment. They're up there to talk about all the accomplishments but then they talk about the family. And then that's where the shields come down and they get so emotional and we can see who they are as man and a family members and sons and brothers and it's really awesome to see it's really great and so when you think about in those moments recognizing our heroes. These men were honoring these men. We've been inspired to want to emulate or support or cheer for have been such a focus of inspiration our life if you see that. That's where their shield comes down. That's where their vulnerabilities exists in those family moments it should be a reminder to all of us check in with family and to connect with family. And log off your timeline and look at see what's going on in the lives of the people around you. Jimmy johnson was up up there talking about cute l. quality time laugh. That's real quality time left company moments. You have on the time line left that you can share with the people you care about and let them know. It's not only just about you for the but it's about giving of yourself to those other people so they can have quality time left. I just I really appreciate taking a beat as you as we embark on this new. Nfl season we had the hall of fame game the other night. Boys right we have one month to the actual the actual season and i think the way that the calender rolls out to have this moment to recognize honor the past inspire the future to check in with family recognize. I remember going to the bronx and entire subway. Cars chanting lie in sucks. Why socks like the whole subway car chanting my father golf and he. He left my high school graduation early. Because pedro is pitching. He's like i'll see dinner. I'm going to the bronx big thing. The seventeenth strikeout game Do you know just regular game. In june in two thousand and no one remembers on on june fourteenth two thousand same day that rj barrett was born into stars. So so for do goes part of this. It's keeping my mother happy this summer because my dad's in a good mood and and verduga was part of this incident in left field on saturday. I don't know if you've had experiences in the bleachers at yankee stadium over the years i grew up going yankee game. Sit in the bleachers. Not not just with my dad. Sitting in the press booth for red sox games when i was in high school and college going to the bleachers rite of passage. Something you do as a young bleed the same thing like i grew up in new england. Bleachers at fenway. Or the it's where it goes down right right right not the not the bleachers above the green monster no no the ones out in right field yes by the pesky pole down out there. My father the biggest boston red sox fan in the world and let alone new york city. It comes a little edge. Got to have a little bite. If you're going to be part of this red sox yankee think we can all agree. That crossed the line by throwing a baseball. Come on and it's just. It's really sad that we've seen this happen. A lot in live sporting events across football across the nba saw it in the cycling and france. Where a fan hit the bikes and everybody crashed. We've been cooped up in the house for a year and a half. We finally get this privilege to go and see games. And it's such a privilege to go to a game. I do not take it lightly. It's expensive It takes Having access you see more people outside of the nba finals in milwaukee than inside your shows if you went to any of those people in the district love it. We're having a blast. They're poor beer and he said hey. I got a ticket for you in the upper deck of the game. Would you wanna go inside. They all say yes so just to be in. The building is a privilege. And it's such a simple rule to follow if it's in your hand or in your body it can't leave if you're holding it. Yeah you gotta you gotta keep holding. Don't go you're wrong. And that also goes for fluid if it's in the body and it's yours isn't what's happening in your system. It's gotta stay in the body because once it goes to trae young once it goes out on the komo on. Like i don't know if it's a harsher penalty. I don't know if i'm sitting up here sounding like a more or less. When i'm the guy yells at christian yelich that he looks like he went to hogwarts which favorite harry potter. You look like you went to hogwarts once you're sorting house see and it get some chuckles from. That's the best part about going to sporting events you go with your buddies but you make friends with my dad and i were so lucky. We got to go to the red sox yankee games in london two years ago. Oh wow summers ago. Now i think i came in saw you guys were swisher. Yeah right before then. We got on the plane and to sit there and to talk to a yankee fan from italy. And he's telling us how he gets the games at two in the morning and you're and you're meeting fans from all over the world sharing a love of baseball and talking and something happened you high five that stranger even yell at somebody you know who's got a different jersey on. What are we doing here. We're seeing sons and four guy bobblehead for punching people like we're seeing verdoux. Go having words like with fans in the bronx. And when you go to a yankee game you feel like you're police getting off the four five or six us. Take the d. and you feel like there's cops on horseback..

I'm going to talk about one of my favorite events the summer the jalen rose leadership academy golf tournament and its eleventh year now and it benefits jalen. Rose's school the jalen rose leadership academy in detroit. Pa not non tuition public charter school. All independently funded. No money from the state jalen done now for eleven years graduates kids every years follows them through college. It's incredible so going to share some some insights on the jr la a little bit later on in the show. But in the meantime i was thinking about this new ruling that came out two weeks ago three weeks ago that said that college athletes could benefit from their name. Image likeness monetarily for the first time. A watershed moment in collegiate athletics. In this country. I'm very fortunate to be able to call a member of the latest iteration of john calories kentucky men's basketball team a friend of mine riley. Well she plays for coach cal. He's down a kentucky. He's in college right now. So who better to talk to about name image likeness and how that impacts the college athlete. The man himself. He's a buddy of mine's junior jocks recall him riley welsh. And he's on the show right. Now you call them up he says. Hey i'll make some time for for for the rich eisen show so we really appreciate it. Man where are you. You're not on campus anymore. No your travels take you all over the place. Thanks to take some time ben. It's good to get to hear from you. That yeah. I'm actually on campus. Right now though i did graduate. I'm no longer on the team. Super-senior super senior just wants to soak it up. Yeah i'm actually I i figured out in insane. But i can't It hasn't been formally announced yet. So i can't say anything but i'm back our years working and hanging out good stuff good stuff. We'll where were you when this ruling came down on name image and likeness. And how did you react to it. How did your teammates react to it because this is a big deal for college athletes. Yeah it's a huge deal. I mean i was actually in lexington with Some of my former teammates and we You know that was kind of the. Nfl i passing had been known for a while You know we weren't necessarily sure when but you know with georgia being on these july. First in california there are quite a few places that it was known where it was going to become law state level And so the ncaa wouldn't really have much of a choice but to you know. Allow athletes Access to there but in kentucky we found out about five days before that our guys would you know be able to benefit from it and it was a super big moment for him just because of the ability to provide for their families. allows and also you know university of kentucky basketball as big as as big of a team in following on all of college athletics so our guys have unbelievable access opportunities to brand themselves and put themselves out there and help themselves and help their families. Riley joins the show just graduated from the university of kentucky. Played for john. Calipari at the university of kentucky bend lines phone in for rich on the rich eisen show and when people in sports talk radio in the media riley you're talking about this name image and likeness story that just broke from the ncaa. They're thinking about how it impacts the big stars zay on. What would he have been able to get a duke. would tim. Tibo have been the most paid college athlete but talk to me about how it benefits guys. Who walk on the team guys. Who are the ninth tenth eleventh guy in the team or even those athletes at school. I kentucky who aren't on the basketball team who play volleyball or softball or baseball cross. How do those athletes you think. Benefit from all the conversation around name image likeness. Well it just. It allows everyone You know a chance to you. Know access their name. You a guy. Here's sam alone You know sam was a walk on here. He was a walk on from two thousand eleven to two thousand fifteen and so he went to. I believe three final fours. Yeah three final fours won. A national championship was part of thirty eight zero team. And as soon as he like you know. They lost in the semis to wisconsin in the final four. He sold shirts after the season. I think he made twenty five thousand dollars And so that's the guy who didn't have a super impactful role on the court and was able to make that. And i think about two months and so just speaking walk. On's at high level programs They're not necessarily super well known throughout the country but in their own community. If you interact with fans if you're fine if you're personable. I get you know they're also very marketable And then for you know the volleyball team like at the university of kentucky. They just wanna national championship. So it's not necessarily national media or national opportunities. Like maybe as i on our vote would get but there are plenty of ways through camps and.

And I think it is going to be a turning point in the series. Um Because the finals are defined by those moments, and you know last night that moment just to seal the deal for Milwaukee, who was down big and and slowly but surely came back. Middleton was outstanding. And if I'm Phoenix, I got my bounce back game from Booker. I kept eating out of foul trouble. Drew holiday struggled from the field and it wasn't enough. The others have to show up for Phoenix. You know, I think back to great role playing performances throughout NBA history. You think of Mike Miller in Game five for Miami. I think he hit seven threes. We all know the Steve Kerr shot. In the finals, I believe was 97 for the Chicago Bulls. Role players often times to find the NBA Finals. He's got drew holiday on him. Follow Tami beer. He's a great writer for Forbes covers basketball at a high level. He had a great staff. Drew holiday has been the primary defender on Chris Paul for a total of 78 possessions during the NBA Finals, and Chris is forced Seven turnovers. Comparison. Dennis Schroder guarded CP three for 83 possessions in the first round, and Chris Paul only committed one turnover. And the American men's basketball team looks all out of whack. I know they waxed Argentina the other day, it doesn't matter. They look like a mess. They don't look like they have any continuity there playing timid and I think they can take a page out of what the women are doing. The W N B A All Star game last night was fantastic. And Team USA hit a wall against the W N B a all stars, and that's going to motivate them heading to Tokyo. To watch. Brianna Stewart, Brittney Griner, Sue Bird, Skylar Diggins Smith. That's a squad and it's because they've been playing together for a long time. So just imagine if back in February at the All Star Game if we got team USA versa, collection of NBA all stars from around the world. Have been a better All Star game, and it would have been better for Team USA as they try to figure things out before the Olympics in Tokyo without half their team after team still in the NBA finals, so kind of a mess on the men's side of things I know they beat up on Argentina the other day, but I'm not giving.

Hey lay off. The hardest thing is no tv. But i think i'm at a point or if i was if i had like a five star setup like i had room service and i would just arrange leave it at the door. If the rule was i couldn't see another person where like the khanna poly in hawaii. Yeah i think i'm in. Yeah what about you lintz. I would one hundred percent do it. I wish i could do that. Well you can. There are place. I have a friend of mine and i have a job. I can't like a matter of time. I think right right. But i mean if you wanted to do it for a week. A friend of mine teaches a retreat. Lindsey she's like new agey and she teaches a retreat. Where you go and you do not speak for seven days. People pay money for this. You go and it's it's a meditation retreat. You walk around. But there is no verbal communication whatsoever and if you want to stay in your room by yourself you can. I think i would. I would enjoy that. I mean besides work. There's there's times we're all go a couple of days. Without speaking to another person i went to the ever been to mount baldy. Yeah yep yeah. Mount baldy has got a retreat center. The kind of place. Like zen retreat. And you're not allowed to talk and all that stuff. I went there for a long only only four days. I went there for a long weekend. And i met one of my all time. Idols leonard cohen. Who is there with their with their speaking allow. When i say a met him we saw each other but we did not speak to each other but it killed me. 'cause i would've loved to talk to leonard cohen. That'd be like me next to aaron sorkin and not be able to spot. Sign me up for this. I would love to have a week of array a month of absolute solitude like you know what was that guy that wrote the book that sits by the lake all the time. What's that guy. I don't know you know what i'm talking about. Oh the third not thurgood. What's his knee. Deep thoughts of jack handy backhand yes. Yes i should know. This guy's name somebody somebody tweeden. He's the guy that wrote the letter. Walden pond walden pond. Right wall tagging. Yeah no clue no clue all right. Somebody out. There understands me. I just have to find them all right whore. Hey what about you. A month's worth of solitude no tv no computer no longer than a month really because you. Yeah you've got a baby that's like the idea of a month with no noises like god that's golden although you i'd that's a long time for me to be away from sports i could probably do it in a normal july. July july is one of those months now under this arrangement. Could i golf by myself. No no golf. Not even by myself with no other human though because that's not the question doesn't say do whatever you want with your time. I would miss that. But i think it would do it. I think i think all things considered like you say. Here's the setup. One month no human contact whatsoever. You will not speak to someone no phone. No computer heck yeah. Sign me up. I'm all in for that. I'm all in for that. i could use the. I could use the quiet. I could use a bit of the solitude. I got a very noisy mind. You know what. I mean a very noisy mind. It's just does nothing but think it's thinking all the time rain man right now base. I think that's why i don't sleep. I can turn mine off. Yeah that's issue that's part of it. I'm not gonna do you try meditating. Tried everything yeah. Matter of fact news a really good. Meditation teacher is ben lyons wife and she told me a bunch of stuff and it helped temporarily but it didn't stick but so lisa's tell me we have an arrangement in august from taking a bunch of vacation in august and and at one point. Lisa's going to go up to her brother or vacation for john ireland. Yeah the the the cheese going twice going up there twice today. She told me she goes. I think i'm just going to drive up there and stay there like not come home in between the two weeks. We're we're taking like one week at the beginning of the end. And she's just going to say there and she goes. Do you want me to drive the car back or do you drive it back. I think i do. I drive me. Driving back from idaho by myself actually sounds good to me. Yeah it's his spend two or three days just thinking about stuff. I think it'll be great well. Next week we're driving up are actually tomorrow. We're driving up to Calistoga in wine country. That's why i'm going to be next week and we're going to try a book on tape. You ever try a book on tape. i haven't been. I know people that love him. Yeah i know i just. I don't know if i like the idea of it. We're going to try it out. But i'm not sure if that's something i'm gonna go for. I'm not sure if the book on tape thing necessarily works for me but by the way you know who is is i. I was thinking about trying to win. And i never did it. But i said you know who's a good narrator to read a book on tape. Yeah and the name. That kept coming back was bryan cranston. He's done a couple of them. He's doing those ford commercials right and you can tell right away. Tim does a ton of voice over ton of voice over. I'd like to do a book on tape. Like review the be the voice of a book on tape.
