"Fans have responded for more on today's match you. Let's go back downstairs check in with Ben Lieber on the sidelines. Ben, thanks, I and yeah. The other thing we have is the wind down here is windy down here on the field, a strong wind from right to left as you guys look at the stadium, and that could be an issues we talked about what Tony Lamar Jackson inaccuracies throwing the football. So that's something to contend with as well. Both tickers struggle going into the one a little bit, but Justin Tucker going with the wind kicked it in from all seventy yards. So that could not a factor in this game. And guys, it's fifty two degrees. It doesn't feel fifty two because of the wind sunny on one half of the field. Half of the stands are in shade right now that happens to be the half that we're in. Tony a lot of complaining by you. I remember that at all. I can ask you. What is just stick elation? I don't know what that means gets you at the sorry. Honestly, are you saying that he was dancing? It's the playoffs. You got to step up your game. So chargers won the toss. They've elected to defer time for the opening kickoff. It's brought to you by peleton that game changing indoor cycling bike any weather is perfect for peleton. No matter. How rough it gets this winter. There's always a ride waiting for. You the kick from badgley Montgomery, the return, man. And he's dropped just as you cross the twenty yard line by Desmond king the second. That's where Baltimore will take over and the transformation for the ravens offensively when Lamar Jackson took over the starting duties initially Joe flacco was injured. That's why Jackson got the nod. And then the realization Tony that Baltimore's at different team more affected with Jackson under center. Well, they are a run. I they run a higher percentage in any NFL any team the NFL with large Acton. And it takes a lot of pressure off their defense as well. Because they control the clock. So well, and they've got options at the running back spot. Gus Edwards.

"Postseason game on the road to Super Bowl fifty three in Atlanta harbor Buddy Ryan eagle along with Tony Boselli sideline. Reporter Ben Lieber. Ben will join us shortly from downstairs ads. Well, Scott Graham from our studios later this afternoon, most of these same stations it'll be the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears game two of our wildcard doubleheader. But first it's time for the chargers. And the ravens Tony. It's the playoffs. These two teams got here in very different ways. The ravens are back in the post season for the first time since two thousand fourteen and Lamar Jackson their rookie quarterback has been a revelation. They changed their entire offense. And it has been so effective a six in one stretch to qualify for the postseason. I and they went for many pass happy. Barely could run the ball offense with Joe flacco to almost as like watching the whispering. When we were kids, you know, those old teams. I mean, it's power football with they option built in almost on every quarterback option. Lamar Jackson is rushed the ball more than any quarterback since the merger in modern era. Amazing. It is amazing. What he's done, and it's a completely different feeling here as well. Because it's almost back to the year two thousand when they had this great defense and ran the ball in one in spite of the quarterback. Now, they're not doing that. Lamar Jackson is a huge part of this ability to get on the edge and do things with his legs. But it's the defense because they have limited opportunities on the field now because the ravens control the clock. I mean, it is all built around the mar- Jackson and what he can do with his legs not as on. And whether this is sustainable down the road is not a question for today. Can they win today and move on to the playoffs? That's the challenge for Baltimore. Amore against a Los Angeles team that finished twelve and four tied with Kansas City best record in the AFC, but based on the tie breakers. They drop all the way down to the five seed Philip rivers is thirty seven years old. And he's been doing this a long time how many more chances does he get in this arena on this stage in the postseason? It's a great opportunity for a very talented charger squad, by the way, I think they're happy that they're on the road there. Eight zero outside of LA county. Hold other. No, we'll talk about. But he talked about Philip rivers. And you've got to remember who he was drafted with the office. Burger Eli manning. They both have rings. I in so much of a quarterback position today is about the hardware has won the big game and Philip rivers talk this week. But he doesn't how many more opportunity you have. Because.

"Your NBC's portrayed on ABC's. You're on that ninety eight team. Right. A Kansas state. Ben. The ninety. No, I yes, I was I excuse me. Season with the the loss to Texas. I hate to bring up horrible memories. But you had the best you had the best team in college football that you're you're sort of won the national championship that heartbreaker in double overtime. Wow. That one must still stink to this day because you should have been national champions that year. I know it seems so much else forgotten. For a second that you just say you're on the online championship game. When the Vikings lost. Yup. Two. Yeah. I mean, we had Texas say they're on the road. And you know, we we knew that we were the better team. We knew that we were just like you're so close minutes Mogollon national championship game. And you know, at least for me, I was registered freshman. I got some playing time of that game. But as I look back on it. Now, man, I was I think I was a little naive as to what the situation was sort of had my blinders on I was more concerned about just doing what I was supposed to do when I got into game. And I think back to the upperclassmen that that was the best chance ever ever gonna have to get to a national championship game. And we as a team just blew it. Good stuff, bent. "Why wouldn't you wanna go into their and their place with everything on the line and demoralized them, you know, and this is one of those games where if the bears do come in on Sunday and beat the Vikings and beat them handily and make Kirk cousins, look, really bad and almost embarrassed them. It's one of those losses for the for any team understand the Vikings. They can carry into next season. Because cousins there's a lot of questions to answer on Sunday. There are a lot of people already talking that. Hey, this is his biggest game as a Viking. It may be one of his biggest games as career and he's been known as a guy that doesn't play big in big games. So if he shows the the Viking fan base and not the Redskins fan base. But the Vikings fan base that. Yep. He's still the same guy that all the stats say that he's not a big game a quarterback, and we paid all this money. She's going to go into the offseason in in the beginning next year with a lot of pressure. And and so that's again, the bears probably understand that they. We know that and they'd be the they'd love to be the team that sort of starts that that negative attitude towards cousins, Ben Lieber with this bend before we let you around. Let me just say John a few college football points Notre Dame. Clemson the big one Katembo four PM eastern time. Notre Dame was in a spotlight this undefeated. They got blown out of the national title game by Alabama Clemson beyond the year. They're having as some people question their schedule. And then you have the news of Dexter Lawrence. And it looks like he won't play in this one Notre Dame and Clemson. It's hard to go against Clemson. I mean, you know, when they have, you know, they've got all Americans on every level that defense, and you know, Notre Dame's got they've got some all Americans on defense to. But I think that there's the threat of of E T N and giving the ball down the field and that balance on offense. I think it's gonna just be a little bit too much firepower for Notre Dame. And I have a ton of respect for Notre Dame's doing, you know, they've got a really good running back as well that that is going to have to watch out for I think that you can attack clemson's linebackers a little bit. I think you can get those guys out in space now whether or not you're going to have a lot of time to split. Those guys is another thing. But don't get me wrong. I mean, clemson's not exactly a one hundred percent policy defense, and there's there's no holes. But I think you can tap these guys at their at their linebacker level and really get those guys on an island and make some plays because Notre Dame's got some playmakers an offense to so. But if you had to ask me a pick a winner, I'm gonna. Funds on this one. And then the other big game Bama and Oklahoma Orange Bowl. Eight PM eastern on Saturday. Obama had the three players suspended. The biggest one of note the offense alignment Brown to eighty eighty five percent. He said yesterday, and then for Oklahoma the Heisman Trophy winner and Cuyler Murray who has missed practice, but it has an illness this past week and misdemeanor day yesterday. Bama Oklahoma do expect this to be a close wonder does. Bama continue to roll I bama's gonna continue to roll. It's I really love I this. I mean, each one of these matchups, you know, obviously, it's going to be the most talented each one of these teams is based on the opposing side of the ball all season long. And I think there's going to be an adjustment period for Alabama for sure this this'll be the most team speed on offense that they have seen all year long. And it's gonna take them some time to adjust. But unlike previous years, you know, even with to not one hundred percent, this will also be the most firepower that Alabama has had a long time on offense to and and nobody's really talked about how good that defense is they're just sort of dismissing the defense because the offense has sort of taken everybody by surprise by storm. But the really good at once again another really good defense for Alabama. So I I would tend to lean towards the guys that are just a little bit bigger and play better defense overall and this matchup, even though there's gonna be a lot of athleticism for Oklahoma. And a lot of a lot of speed. I think Alabama is going to go out and win this one. And it's going to be one of those where they went. They went in the second half just because they they wear out this Oklahoma team on both sides of the ball. And that's and that's a hard thing to say, no one Oklahoma just one of the best offense group in the country. But I think it's gonna be too much for them to handle for four quarters last one for Ben Lieber Benazir two part question. Number one. What did you make of Justin Herbert's decision to return to Oregon and then the follow up on that? Kyla Mary according to his agencies like he will choose baseball. But with this not being a strong quarterback class. Do you think maybe he'll change that decision at all? I hope not you know, if I were if I were his parents if I were Kyle parents I'd say follow baseball. I know that there seems to be. Seems to be more popularity and then there's obvious popularity with slip ball, and he would for sure be a rising star quickly and a lot of attention and probably more attention than he's gonna get in the first couple of years and baseball, but you know, you know, here in the twin cities, you know, Joe Mauer was one of these guys at the state's similar decision. Now, he didn't he faced? He made the decision before he went to Florida state, but he's one of the best athletes in the country in both baseball and football. And and he's made a pretty nice hall of fame career, at least with the twins sort of speech choosing baseball, and he, you know, made two hundred million dollars playing baseball, and you're not gonna find that the NFL. So as a parent I would say play play baseball you can play for fifteen or twenty years. You can make a lot more money. Your body's going to be saved going down the road. Now, as far as just a Herbert goes, I think this was a this was sort of been floated out there about midway through the season that he didn't take the necessary steps they thought developing lives. That they thought he was going to take. And I think it makes a lot of sense. I think he's, you know, knowing a little bit what I know about 'em covering some of their games is that he's got a really good head on her shoulders. He's got really good supportive down to earth family. And I think they just wanna make the right decision for him going for so. Yes, even though he could potentially be a first draft pick this year. You know, if he comes back and does make those those stripes next year for sure will be a first round draft pick if not the very first quarterback taking next year, and hopefully because of it and and the maturity aspect of it he'll have a better pro career. Because Ben thank you for the time. As always we appreciate it. Hey, my pleasure, man. Have a good one. "An kudos to you broke the story this week about Carson Wentz back injury. We know he's not gonna play tonight against the Rams. What's the outlook for Wentz moving forward? Short-term and long-term. Well, we'll talk short-term first everyone's in the fantasy playoffs. Everybody wants to Novi is going to play hard to imagine a scenario where he actually gets on the field for the rest of the two thousand eighteen. And season. I mean, I guess theoretically, they exist. I just haven't found any yet. And especially if they go out and get eliminated from playoff contention tonight by the Rams, I mean, there would be virtually you know, almost no chance that Carson Wentz. He's the field. Again, you know, they're not going to put them in harm's way. If there's any chance of worsening the injury. So that's one part of it. The other part of it is you know, it's going to be about a three month recovery for the stress fracture in his back. Not a minor injury at all. But nothing just based on the nature of it should affect him long term. He doesn't need surgery. He just needs to basically rehab, and you know, of course, that sort of leads to the questions about his future in injury being injury prone. What I understand is that the eagles are still very very much committed to him as a QB of the future. You know, he's just dealt with a lot of stuff in his young career. Always we appreciate the information. Thanks so much for joining us again today here on the NFL on in. All right. Thanks for having me. We continue on NFL first and goal the podcast now, let's break down the game between the dolphins. Vikings with former Vikings linebacker Ben Lieber sideline. Analysts for KFA N and the Minnesota Vikings radio network that let's recap Minnesota's comprehensive win over Miami. Forty one seventeen always a pleasure to talk Viking football with Ben Lieber the former Vikings linebacker sideline analysts for KFA and the Minnesota Vikings radio network. Ben, thanks so much for taking the time. How different do you think? The offensive approach was today after offense coordinator, John D Filipo lost his job on Tuesday, watching bits and pieces of the game. There certainly was a renewed commitment to the run Vikings forty Russia's for two hundred twenty yards. You know, I think for having me on, you know, it's it's pretty remarkable. Just the difference in the the offense of approach, and it really was simplistic. And I think that was the warmer through the course of the week not only just because it was a short week, and you couldn't really get into a really complicated offense. But the the offense needed to be simplified, and we got this word that deep Lippo as as smart as creative as he is. I think he wanted to try to out create the opponent on almost every single play. And you you sort of get away from the fact that sometimes you just gotta rely on your players to make plays. And and to keep things simple. So you allow your players to play fast and that renewed commitment to the run game that Mike Zimmer is asking people to do for many weeks, you know, and he never did it happened today. And you see what can happen to the offense and how it can open up the offense and take a little bit of pressure off for Kirk cousins. And the whole offense and the whole team performs a little bit better. So it was exactly I think what everybody was hoping was going to happen. And I really could not be happier for for Chevy's too fancy. Cause us this one of these guys that everybody's been waiting to see what he can do. We all know that he's a he's a smart guy, very well liked guy. But you never know what's gonna look like the lights and under pressure, and he handled it beautifully, man. Beyond the stats. How would you sum up your one for Kirk cousins? Minnesota today the two touchdown passes. Negated in part by pick six. Yeah. And you know, the pick six is one of those plays where that's an immediate taught route. And it's a it's like a smokescreen out to the side. And you know, you're supposed to sell it with your eyes a little bit going forward. It's still all your linemen to get out to the left side..

"To be a hall of Famer but crank door in the run game for Miami. That's something that the Minnesota Vikings have struggled with has of late in the latter part of the season. So unfortunate, you know, when you go back and watch their game against the patriots are our offense. Ran the ball really well against the patriots assists that we abandon the run. I think firmer call right? We were averaging nine yards a carry. And then we just got started stop running the football. But they did the same thing. I mean, they they went out and ran the football really really well against that patriot defense and again going back to Riley earlier, Frank gore. They had him running a lotta outside stretch zone. You see a lot of these these players doing now the stretched out, and they hope for cutback or some sort of crease in the front side, and that's not his style. And they he went back to the coordinator engaged and said, hey, I need to run more downhill and do what I do best. They've been doing that much more success one first down. So these guys can be more physically run the ball down with him. And then it drink out on the outside of all the cutbacks. Slashing van real quick. Your predictions today to the Vikings get back on track with three games remaining. Yeah. I think they do actually think this game is going to be a thirty one to thirteen affair favor. The vikings. I have a lot of confidence in what fancies doing. I think these guys on offense are gonna play fast, especially home, and I expect some job. Take advantage of their aggressive safety. Awesome work as always, thanks. Bart. Thank you. Ben Ben Lieber for Minnesota Vikings linebacker. They're vikings. Football Sunday has been brought to you by US Bank. "CBS sports radio. What's going on, man? All right. Thanks, guys. I'm a big Vikings fan. And with that Dallas win. I don't think it doesn't anything, you know, as far as the standards go for us. But things are really getting chippy in the NFC with five games to go on. And I had really high hopes going into the season signing Kirk to eighty four million guaranteed deal on bringing overdose Lippo and his offense to me has been really stagnant. And I just wanted to see if you guys think we have a chance that getting in. And if we do do you think we can do some damage? Well, listen, I I gotta tell you don't and we appreciate the call. I I. I like a lot of people I became a saints believe last year not a bandwagon guide. But it was hard not to enjoy what they did their squad was unbelievable. And they have dropped the for. Sure. I mean, they're it's it's, you know, they're not then. Then last year, and and like Dylan, I agree to bring causes in pay more money would think you're gonna get rolling here. I think they're playing the patch next believe in Foxborough. Good luck. There. The thing for me with the vikes that the thing that happened. That's most concerning is defensively. It's just changed. It's just you know, it's just not they're not the same. The last time you were out, and I was hanging out with moose. We talked to somebody from Minnesota was Neo. Ben Lieber former Vikings linebacker, bam. Benny. I said this. I've been waiting for the turnaround like where is their four game run that the Cowboys are curly on when is when is that coming and he said, it's still possible. But I can't predict these things I still feel like as I'm going through all of these different scenarios that would prevent us from saints Rams at the end of the NFC post-season. I still think the Vikings in theory are the best equipped to prevent us from that. But they have yet to play in reality to that level that. Exactly. So then throw the bears in and Khalil Mack. And now. The Cowboys did last night was really impressive. The follow up question. I don't think I'm being unfair is can they do it again? Or was down a perfect scenario in in a number of the Cowboys. Right. Till can can they do that? Again, if they were to play the Rams or the Saint and that game either way would be on the road for the Cowboys. So I still don't know like how different the NFC is a still think if I'm one of these two teams New Orleans or LA I still might be most concerned with the Viking matchup. But that might be ludicrous because the Vikings haven't really given you anything on the novel this year. But no. Things together. I think they could win a game on the road. I don't know that the bears or the Cowboys could in the postseason. We'll see because the Vikings as you said they're going to Foxborough on Sunday. And then if they played the patriots the following Monday on December tenth they gotta go to Seattle Seahawks. Yeah. So, and you never know Russell Wilson what you going to get because it's usually on point and at home as you guys know, they are tough so Dylan Vikings, you could be in trouble, my friend. I mean is there still shot? Yeah. There is. But you gotta I think he got a win at least one of these games on road. And I don't know if he could do it. You know, I I mean I'd love to see the Vikings beat the patriots. I'd love to see that happen. And we're gonna find out on Sunday. But that's going to be tough sledding. Seriously, that's gonna be tough sledding for sure. Back to this game last night. I really the Vikings, boomer. Party is throwing throwing offers around to go to this game. We hold onto somebody was I had someone texting me watch. Mike was talking about. Yes. So boomer and offered your friend. Greg G Nadi. Morning. This is boomer. And then there's also a gentleman here. I don't know if you've met him yet Robbie Rosenhaus place while you Barbie was was one of my several produces less than a week seems like a lot. Roberts. Good guy. Ravi. Also is a Viking fan and apparently boomer seriously for Greg. I'm not so sure seriously for Robbie but offered a helicopter ride what ten seats in a suite. On Sunday in Foxborough and your boy GO said, no. So the offers out there if I don't know if boomers brought it to your attention yet. And if you would go say a problem, but hold on let me get this straight. Yeah. So that means I have to get in a helicopter with Ravi Ravi is going to go over Robbie just me or I guessed just me. Okay. Do you wanna go alone? That's fine. Okay. Against boomer. I mean, he could land the helicopter my yard. I got got a pad their because I was going to by helicopter, and I decided not to so we put a pad cost-efficient. Yeah. And so I have a pad that that's what helped lens, and and it could land that they're just pick up. I'll come right about smoker cigar on helicopter flip over the whole of Minneapolis. Be grant sit there bummer. Only foxborough. That's why it's a helicopter..

"Going to continue to throw around the football right now and built the world of the NFL. And also, the NC double A M. We'll do so with the former NFL linebacker now a member of the Vikings radio network, and you can also catch him on Saturdays on FOX calling college football. And that's Ben Lieber who's kind enough to join us on CBS sports radio Bennett's at gal. Thanks for a few minutes. And how are you? I'm doing great, man. How you doing well doing great, and we do preciado a few minutes. Let's start it off. With the Vikings is the Vikings team coming off the bye, they had the bears in Chicago coming up on Sunday night football bear sitting at six and three Vikings at five three and one. This is one big match up in the in the NFC north just happened. This one coming up on Sunday. It's it's hard to believe, you know, we were talking about earlier today. America radio show this morning that who would have thought that this game on Sunday nights going to be a must win for the Vikings. If they feel like they want to control their own destiny, and and women division, and all that stuff, you've got a bear. And a couple of weeks ago. We talked about the same scenarios about who's going to battle for the AFC north, and nobody was really taken the bear seriously. And and everybody's still seemed to think that it was between the Vikings and the Packers. And in the way, the bears have been playing you have to absolutely take him. Seriously. Now Trubisky has found a nice rhythm. He's being really smart with football. They're they're intern being really smart with how they use inside and outside the pocket. And you know, I think everybody knows that they can do with that pass rush, especially when they had the lead. So it's going to be a big time match up, and you know. Even in my time when I was at the Vikings. We just didn't play well in Chicago. And I don't know what it is like even when we felt like we had the better team that we're more talented. It didn't matter if we're playing at noon or for playing that night. There's something about that stadium that the Vikings just a little bit flat. And I'm a little bit worried because of that, but historically the last couple of years the Vikings are pretty slow after the by itself. They don't come out of the gates, really, truly refreshed and fast. So it may take a quarter or a half for them to get going. When you look at this one, and you see a big primetime stage on Sunday to hear what you're saying about the Vikings in Chicago. But you look at experience you got Mike Zimmer I know this is Kirk cousins first year there in Minnesota. But he's been around the league for a long time. And you got a young quarterback going up against a rookie head coach. How much is experience matter in this one especially that position. It certainly matters. Right. I mean, yours would probably lean on the guy that's been there and done that a little bit more often. The thing that worries me though, is this is an offense. That's folded after Andy Reed's offense in Kansas City. It's very similar to the new age approach. The college football approach about a lot of guys emotional before the snap. Shifting personnel around. Coming out in different formations with different personnel and really kind of playing the game before the fall even snapped. And that's that's the type of system has given Mike Zimmer problems going all the way back to the divisional round game against the saints. The saints are really good at doing that. They're probably not quite as progressive. As maybe the eagles are and were ever eagles game lacks, David really gave them problems. And that is that is sort of falling into this as well that the teams that do that pre snapper given like Zimmer problems now they have played better as late, but they really have a plate any offenses like that either. So that's gonna be thing that I'll be watching as well as just how do they approach this game with this type of team? You know, have they learned their lesson sort of chasing ghosts like they did against the Rams, but what is it specifically more in detail about this team this year 'cause they're five three and one they still have a chance to win this division. Obviously. But they're not as dominant as what people would have thought with the Vikings going into this year. A couple of factors. I mean, injuries injuries Carrie dout about it. It injuries always happen. And it seems like they they got bit pretty good with a couple of key injuries. Most notably Alvin cook expecting him to come back in a fury after the ACL last year. And then it's been nagged by a hamstring agree in, thankfully, he played in the Detroit game right before the by. And had a nice little seventy yard run. And on top of that, you know with all these new metrics and the way we track players, you know, they had them clocked at twenty two miles an hour, which was the fastest biking so far this year and in one of the faster guys in the NFL. So the hamstring is back. He seems to have that top end speed back. So that's a huge huge advantage for the Vikings defensively they've been banged up. And and that's been an issue. I think having a new offense coordinator, it was taking a little bit of time to find this balance. I mean, I think we we see what cousins can do. He can he can be deadly accurate. And I think everybody's starting to realize the talent. And Adam sealant is that that we've known in around the parts for a while. But now the Dacian sort of knows what type of talent he is. So it's taking a while. I think for the whole offense to find that balance that are looking for. And then like I said defensively, you know, I think they came out of the season sore thinking like, hey, we can just kinda show up, and you know, we're gonna be rockstar defense. Like, we've always been and they got punched in the mouth few times. And I think in in a good way they got punched mouth and humbled a little bit. I think there are there are more aggressive tomatoes defense than they were previously at the start of the season. So I think they're starting to really come into form. But it has taken the team quite a few games to try to get get themselves. Lethem we're talking with Ben Lieber right now in CBS sports radio. We'll get to the college ball in just a second. But I do want to ask you about a former teammate going back to your days on the west coast with the chargers. And that's drew Brees. What is it like feed is still see him play in the way that he is right now because it's remarkable year in year out what he's able to do in a football field. Jealous. You know, there's there's quite a few guys. You know, they're Terrence. Up here and he's still up your coaching with the Vikings. But he's another guy that looked at K state together. And I looked at him. Like, man, I I just don't know how you do it, man. I mean, everybody at that. At this age is banged up. And you're playing always with injuries and whatnot and more than anything else. It's such a mental grind, you know. It's such such a motion grind. I put my ten years in. And I'm like, I'm done, man. I I just I don't want to deal with this the stress and the the anxiety in fighting through injury of all the time. So I look at what drew is doing. Now, what Tarrant certainly did for a long time. And I'm just jealous, man. They they they're able to play the game at a high level and still be fresh. And I think you know, drew is is playing as strong as he's played maybe ever. I mean, he's still looks like he's right in the Middle East primates thirty nine years old. It's remarkable. There's no doubt about it. Let's get to the college Notre Dame and Syracuse this weekend at Yankee Stadium. Notre Dame two games left in the regular season. They'll have Syracuse like I said this upcoming week. And then they're at USC is noted. I'm gonna win. Both these games, Ben. Yeah. I think they are. I think they are you know, with with Syracuse. It's a great story. Right. I think you know, Dino's done there. It's been pretty remarkable. You know, I think he's obviously proven himself as a coach I think they have some talent there. But I think the thing is when you really boil it down do they really have the talent across the board to compete against Notre Dame right now. And I don't think that they do in book is completely changed how you approach and how you think about Notre Dame. He's gonna be you know, as healthy as he's been in a while coming in for this game. That defense is is legit and they're gonna get after Syracuse the whole time. So, you know, the neutral site, I think. Helps Syracuse a little bit. But I still think Notre Dame is still built to play in the elements. And that's one reason why I liked him. I think they are a tough rugged football team that is built for this type of weather in this type of atmosphere. So yeah, I think that they win this game and the USC game, you know, USC they can they might be looking for a head coach after this weekend. I mean, they still have a lot of things to figure out certainly not the season that they they were anticipating. And so I do think that Notre Dame does take care of them as well. And they get McCulloch playoffs. How about Michigan? Maybe the college football playoff you figure. They would easily take care of Indiana this weekend. But then they had that matchup begin. So high of state but Michigan looks like the rolling right now. The same sort of thing. I I look at you know, it's the same way I sort of evaluate NFL teams, you know, who who's built for a championship run who's built to play in the elements if they have to play in the elephants, and and who isn't mentally tough football team. And obviously Alabama's their Clemson is there and I feel like Michigan because of that defense. And I think that's the one thing that the the committee looks at as well is who's a bounce football team. You know, who's who's not only can control the ball and run the ball, but who can play really good defense. And I think the rewarding some of these teams that plagued the defense, and I think Michigan should be deserves to be up there and in the conversation. So I I do like what they got going on right now. I think they take care of business in the big ten and and they play off as well. We always look at the situation that can create the most chaos, and then we get into that conversation of expansion. Bama in Georgia. I really do think these these the two games we talked about in the Bama Georgia game really will decide how this college football playoff shaped bow because if Georgia defeats bam SEC title game, then there's going to be one of those teams that probably should get in. That's not going to get in. Because you have to think Bama is still get in even if they only have one loss. Yeah. I mean, that's gosh. I don't even know what would happen that situation. You you'd have a lot of upset people. No matter how you you shake it out. I think the committee got it right last year and getting back Bama, and they're clearly proved that they were the best in the world in the country. And and I think that's how it's going to look as well is who's going to compete in the top four and who really is a legit top four football team. And I would be surprised if Georgia did come out and beat them if to us healthy, which sounds like he'll play this weekend. It's citadel. But I imagine they'll be one of those like quick poll sort of things in the first quarter. Nothing something like that. Probably. Yeah. Exactly. And I don't think there's much debate with a healthy too. I don't know any any team even Clemson that can stop these guys. They're they are the most explosive that they've been in a really long time. And now the defense is not probably where you want it to be. But it's still a really good defense. Yeah. I mean like you said the the chaos that would ensue if Georgia did beat them. I would love to see it. I mean shoot I would love to see the citadel Alabama's weekend might it be. It'd be fun to sit back and watch. And how how the single all got sorted out. But certainly at that, you know, the championship game time if Georgia comes out and beats them then. Yeah. Somebody's gonna get left out. And and you may just see Bama get west out. And I'd be really be something. I think is going to get in regardless of even one loss. I think they've they find a way to get in. But let me ask you this in terms of expansion. Do you think we're close to it? Did you think it's so far away? How do you think they'll attack that DNC? I think it's gonna take something like that for them to really really consider the expansion and. You know, money always speaks to let's say that bama's out of it. You know, this this is storage. Good offense and team for Alabama is left out of the top four. I think you're gonna have a whole nation. Even even the Alabama haters. I think are going to come out and say, all right. We we have to do something here because as much as it's fun to hate on them. If you're not a fan. He also understand that you want to see your team compete with them. You want to see them at the on the biggest stage, and and so I think it's gonna take some sort of catastrophe like that before, you know, with with some of the blue bloods before I think you really get some serious consideration. I think it's always there. It's always percolating. But if you wanna see a raging boil over the top, then I think you're going to have to have a scenario like you're talking about where we're Alabama's out or or clemson's out, you know, because right now, nobody really cares at the big twelve is out. And nobody cares. If the if the Pac twelve is out it's all about. The three other conferences on the east. And that's it. But let me ask you this. Then let's just say me run the scenario by you, so Georgia, let's say they'd be Bama, which is a big if but let's say they're able to run the football like they are. And they find a way to keep to off the field, and they beat Bama. So Bama would have one loss Georgia..

You know, there's there's quite a few guys, you know, it was up here and he's still up your coaching with the Vikings. But he's another guy that I looked at and stay together. And I looked at him. Like, man, I I just don't know how you do it, man. I mean everybody that at this age is banged up. And you're playing always with injuries and whatnot and more than anything else. It's such mental grind, you know. It's such such a motion grind. I put my ten years in. And I'm like, I'm done, man. I I just I don't want to deal with this the stress and the the anxiety and fighting through injury all the time. So I look at what drew is doing. Now Tarrant certainly did for a long time. And I'm just jealous fan. They play the game at a high level and still be fresh. And I think, you know, jerus- his playing as strong as he's played maybe ever. I mean, he's still looks like he's right in the middle of this priming. It's thirty nine years old. Right. I I think you know, what Dino's done there. It's been pretty remarkable. You know, I think he's obviously proven himself as a coach I think they have some talent there. But I think the thing is when you really boil it down do they really have the talent across the board to compete against Notre Dame right now. And I don't think that they do even book is completely changed how you approach and how you think about Notre Dame. He's going to be as healthy as he's been in a while coming in for this game. That defense is is legit. And they're gonna get after Syracuse the whole time. So, you know, the neutral site, I think. Helps Syracuse a little bit. But I still think Notre Dame is still built to play in the elements. And that's one reason why I liked him. I think they are a tough rugged football team that is built for this type of weather in this type of atmosphere. So yeah, I think that they win this game and the USC game. You know, you see they they might be looking for a head coach after this weekend. I mean, they they've still a lot of things to figure out the certainly not the season that they they were into. And so I do think that Notre Dame does take care of them as well and the cultural playoffs how about Michigan will they be the college football playoff you figure? They would easily take care of Indiana this weekend. But then they had that match up against Ohio State. But Michigan looks like the rolling right now. Yeah. Same sort of thing. I I look at you know, it's the same way I sort of evaluate NFL teams, you know, who who's built for a championship run who's built to play in the elements if they have to play in the elements, and and who's a mentally tough football team. And you know, obviously, Alabama's their Clemson clemson's there, and and I feel like Michigan because of that defense. And I think that's the one thing that the the committee looks at as well is who's a balanced football team. You know, who's who's not only can control the ball and run the ball who can play really good defense. And I think they're rewarding some of these teams that played good defense. And I think Michigan should be deserves to be up there. And then the conversation. So I I do like what they got going on right now. I think they take care of business and the big ten, and and they get the college football playoff as well. We always look at the situation that can create the most chaos, and then we get into that conversation of expansion..

"Minnesota Vikings on mice were out on the plaza here inside a US Bank stadium where the boom's coming up at noon. It's Ben Lieber. Joining me how you doing. What's happening, man? I can barely hear you so loud in here. Well, you know, what it should be the first divisional home game for the Minnesota Vikings taking the lions in a stretch of divisional games coming up here. The season where we have all these injuries by week coming up next week. This is a pivotal win today. I hate to say it here at the beginning of November. But this is a must win. It's a must-win not only per division locations. But it's a must win. I think for confidence and motivation and momentum for the rest of the season this team, obviously as we all know that's been a little bit. They haven't I don't think put together a game where it's been all three phases. Playing together the run in the past finding some balanced defensively. You know, we've always had issues in each every game. So this is a game. I think that they play a complete football game and win. Obviously you put yourself in a good position wise. But I think just the overall mental health of the team would really benefit. Three or four alliance losses. Stafford has thrown forty plus passes went after out, I think it was fifty six he actually through if you can stop the Ron you get him on the throne, which is really kind of weird because Matthew Stafford is six all time touchdowns versus the Vikings were Twenty-three in his sixteen games. He's got fourteen touchdowns six interceptions. This year hit four of them in week one against the jets. But Stafford if he's throwing a bunch he does make mistakes you have an opportunity to get that ball. And you're right. I mean, that's the thing you you like to see him throw a lot. But it also can be scary proposition because he is pretty deadly. But you know, we all have seen him play. He he does take risks. He does think that he can fit the ball and pre tight windows and that is opportunity for the the second during the linebackers to make some plays. So the more that he throws the more opportunities you throw into into some danger into into some coverage, but may not have so much respect for. For his toughness. His ability to stay in the pockets in his grit determination, so it's gonna take a lot to rattle them. But the Vikings have done pretty well against him as far as getting into his head. You know, the last couple games he walks away, a battered and bloodied in limping around. So it's going to take that sort of defensive effort. I think to knock him off his game. Digs out today and had deal dealing going for megatrucks record to break. It back in two thousand twelve when we went straight games with one hundred plus yards. You've played against megatonne. You've covered him you've covered obviously out of feeling while working for the Vikings radio network and all the things with the what is if anything similar to these two guys as games. Well, you know, obviously, there's a big difference in their stature. And and that's the that's very apparent. But you know, the similarities are they just kind of catch everything I think there's a reliability factor that no matter what if you're gonna bracket them or double double cover them. They're going to find a way to come down to the mall megatonne gave you that different element. Because he was so tall that he could jump over bracket. Coverage. You can jump over some players on the field and make some newly athletic catches. But he's not one of those guys that's gonna sky up above guys on a consistent basis and take the ball year. So he's gonna find creative ways to get you. He'll guy for balls. We saw last week will jump over the back of guy to catch the ball. So the library factor of just throw it to an area, even if they're covered and trust that they're gonna come down with. And with just less than a minute left in this segment here because it's twenty five twenty one for yards sixty touchdowns. He's been great the eighty four million dollar quarterback. If anything what are your concerns about her cousins? I know a lot of you are making a lot of out about him. Hold onto the ball, and hitting balls typifying scrimmage. I'm less worried about getting balls typical on his scrimmages. I just him just having that awareness. Sometimes throw the ball away. That's no k play to just throw the ball to the sidelines. Get it out of arms lay live to play another down. So I like to see him do more of that. But I still love his his aggression of having his is down the field. Trying to find open receivers. He shouldn't lose that. Great stuff as always Ben lever. Thanks, buddy, lobby moss. I love you too. Vikings football Sunday brought to you by US Bank..

"Taken on the cards inside on the field. We're joined now Ben Lieber, Ben how you doing this morning buddy, very excited about bikes karts today. I'm doing better than you. You're stuck out in the snow. Yeah. It is. It's been a little snow globe here for US Bank stadium outside. It's picturesque. Its picturesque in December. But not knocked over. Early october. Yeah, it's been really kind of a rough the altogether, but people are weathering the storm there Kevin inside US Bank stadium very excited today. One thing that the Vikings have been pretty good about the founding running backs. Vikings ranked thirteenth in the NFL rushing yards per game. But their twenty fifth in the NFL in the passing game bed. Give it up forty four yards or more to receiving yards to up to four running backs. So far this year with David Johnson coming in? He might be one of the best guys would that run slash pass. He he really hasn't. He's really the linchpin to this Arizona offense. They have to get him going in the running game. You have to do a good job of stopping the vertical run inside. I enforce him to bounce outside. I don't personally believe that David Johnson has the speed to beat our defense on the edges, but he can really do some damage when he gets downhill one guy miss then bounces it to the outside. That's when you can pick up some big yard. That's one thing. I'll be watching for today is just how how effectively our defense can make him bounce outside. And then the second thing is they've had a lot of issues with wide receiver outside of Christian Kirk as far as the big play. A lot of receivers dropped when football's no rhythm with with Josh Rosen. And so they're using him more out of the backfield. And so you know, he may end up having a hundred yards total offense. But it's going to be a combination of both run into the past. Man, you are one of the nicest guys I've ever met from the NFL, and you're well respected all the way around. Everybody. Always has great things to say about you. There's another guy that's like that. Larry FitzGerald, thirty five years old could be the last game that he plays here in Minnesota. The guy has one hundred ten career touchdowns doesn't have one yet this season, but Larry FitzGerald junior and.

"Conversation off the air talking about the Minnesota Vikings in two thousand eighteen but what is the Vikings identity here this season? I mean, obviously defense was huge force last couple of seasons nowadays. I mean, you're wondering if that magic number which used to be seventeen twenty points for the offense to put up we get a win. It might be forty five nine. Well, I know it's really bizarre to think of our team like that. But yeah, the identity is passing the football. And it's really hard to say that you look at both sides of the football even special teams. And what this team is known for. Traditionally is a win the trenches run the football. I know there's a time where they the football around a lot too. But it's been defense defense defense for so many years, and that's not the case. I mean, that's the reality for their at. So if you had to pick a an identity for this team, it's it's an open it up. It's a throw the football round. It's a little bit like college football in the big twelve where it says, we're gonna try to outscore you gonna play much effects on the other side. You got the eagles their ground game is pretty good one hundred eight carries four point four yards per carry five touchdowns rushing. And the biggest thing they have is time of possession. Number one in the league thirty four twelve average per game. Yeah, they're doing they're doing a pretty good job of controlling the football. But they've got some issues as well running. I mean, you look at both teams are not that dissimilar. Both running games are not the strength of their offense. The quarterback play. Least for them. It's been a little inconsistent with went back a lot of that has to do with some of the past protects the issues especially last week against Tennessee. Are passing game is actually a little more explosive than there. So I mean authencity they're not, you know, it's not like it's a it's a big contrast in styles. So yeah. If you control the clock here at their home place. That's obviously going to be major issues defense as little as our defense can be off the field. Obviously it's going to benefit them. Just. Kaufman's lies, but also distinct breasts. All right. Ben Lieber kickoff. Coming up here at three twenty five. Thanks, buddy. Appreciate it aren't always a pleasure about a funky. Ben levers gonna be a lot of fun to listen to hear as he had.
