"Us here on the program in 20 minutes is Ben Garland, then is that a 10 year NFL career As a center. Years been on three Super Bowl teams. Unfortunately for him, all three have lost that game. But the Broncos in 2013, the one that lost the Seahawks, the Falcons who lost the Patriots of the Niners. You've lost the chief's, but he has had an amazing run of success. He also is an Air Force grad, so he has been amazing in the salute to service. So we will talk to Ben about all of that, then Garland Long time NFL center coming up here on the show in 20 minutes, and in 40 minutes, we have Canadian bacon as more as goes over the night in NHL playoff action. Complete with bad Billy Joel puns. Last night, the Lakers get the victory in dramatic fashion over the Warriors. 103 100, buoyed by an incredible three pointer at the shot clock buzzer by LeBron James for more than 30 ft out. And it was just Another moment where LeBron came up big in a big spot and Really, really, really want to hear. The LeBron's not clutch argument again today. Really want to hear that. I'm longing for it today. LeBron didn't have the clutch gene. Yeah. Uh huh. Was a great shot. It was a great game. It was really fun back and forth action, and I think so much of that. Is built out of the drama of a one game type of playoff as I've Noted, and underscored a number of times this week. I really like this new basketball format for the playoffs. The play in games the pigs if you will P I G s Notorious because it gives us the game seven fields now last night, there wasn't nearly as much on the line is a game seven. But winner moves on. Losers Gotta wait to see another day in the 9 10 matchup. Loser does go home last night. That was Part of the case for the Spurs. That was the case for the Spurs and Grizzlies match up. But The one game drama intensity urgency. Was part of the attraction last night and I think caused both teams to play the higher level. So I think that this thing is working. Now again. Having the defending NBA champions versus Dynasty in In turmoil. Flailing a little bit. That warriors team is not gonna oftentimes happen in a 78 matchup in the pigs, but it happened last night. It can't happen. It did happen, and it was glorious. Steph was sensational. Last night 37 points. He was awesome from deep and you saw on display. What makes Steph curry such unguardable player? Is the flick. Is that he needs no space to get a shot off. And when he gets the shot off, it's likely going in. Steffes brilliance is that Yeah, He's got a great handle. Yes, He's really good defensively. Yes, He's a really good assist Skye. But what's beautiful is that he needs a sliver of space. Barely that. Flick of the wrist. Nobody's ever needed formal less to hit a three pointer. Then Steph. No matter where Steph is on the floor, no matter what his sight line is to the hoop, no matter who was guarding him, no matter what his bodies contorted to do the flick. And it's in He was just great. Last night. He was just great. And it's funny that at this point in his career stuff is much less the shimmying type of guy and much more kind of the elder statesman. You know. Last night, he admitted he missed games like this. It's only been two years for them, but A long time ago, feels like a lifetime ago that the Warriors were playing in the NBA Finals. And so there was this kind of vintage Steph in there last night, and he carried that team to nearly a victory. But LeBron and Anthony Davis too much a D contributed 25 points last night. LeBron's late Game three was the difference. Had 25 12 from a D. You had 22. 11 rebounds and 10 assists from LeBron a triple double. Caruso was great in terms of energy. Koosman had some important buckets on the stretches Well, True did shoot well, only three of 14, but definitely was a creator. And contagious. Caldwell. Pope also added 10 points You had a Lakers team that's finally starting to come together. Feeling itself. And Got the victory. Now, on the one hand, you might say, Well, yeah, but he struggled to beat the Warriors. Struggled with the Warriors. So how good could they be? But in my mind They should be the favorite in the West. They're back to being healthy, and they're not a true seven seed. Because the team that was the seven seed is not the team that's on the floor right now. Team that's on the floor right now would have been No worse than a three seed. There's no way the Lakers would have been worse than a three seed out, West had LeBron and a D stayed healthy. And if the Lakers were the three seed looking up at this sons and the jazz We would all make the Lakers the favorite. That's why I think they have to be considered the favorite again. But also I'm watching last night's game going. Wow. The sons did all of that work. Won all of those games. Change the narrative on their franchise. And their reward. Is the winner of this Their reward..

"They played at a really high level. So you mentioned Ben garlands injury and that's where I want to go with my question. Obviously, he's on I r about that injury. And can you give us any update on Trent Williams? Understanding the importance of both of those guys. But especially again. You're going in no inter newengland. Your running game is on point right now you want to keep Garoppolo is comfortable and is happy. In the pocket is possible without those two guys, if you don't have Williams, but what is the challenge? How do you keep that moment? I'm going with that group. Well, we're hopeful Tohave Trent News got better today when he was out there on a limited basis. I think transfer here to play transmit a tremendous addition to this team, and that's been you know, made in the last couple weeks. As what he hasn't done. But, man, you know, 90 95% of the time. This guy's he's outstanding and he played at a really eye level last week. He makes us better as a group. He's been awesome and you can tell he's having fun plan. So him being out there today. I wasn't surprised, and I was happy, though. Ben Garland That's a big loss. You know the center position this year. I think, uh, you know, you think Western Richburg coming back at some point we had him on the PP and he's really struggled and and at no fault of his own, you know, it's It's been tough for him. He's working his tail off. Way still remain awful. Just don't know. You know if he's gonna find his way back, and you know if if he is it's going to take some weeks, So Ben Garland had stepped in and you know we re signed him this year because we knew Western, you know, was going to take some time to get back, and then it really performed at a really high level, then works as hard as anybody. You know, it's so good out on those screens, and you know, it really fits our offense. Well, unfortunately, just another freak deal popped popped a muscle in his calf. So that's gonna be some time. Um, you know, we now turn to thoroughness Grass who I think backto training camp. We signed a guy Jake Brendel, who had played in the league. And he opted out about a half hour before the opt out time because he was high risk. Couldn't blame him. I remember him showing up in my office and going off and that stinks. But understand, And then we go sign Spencer Long. Spencer was here for about three days decided his heart wasn't anymore. So he retired. So I think we're down to our fifth center. If that makes sense, But do you know came in and ah You know, started Game one. If I'm not mistaken and played at a really good level, he did a good job for us. So we trust him behind that. We're working hard to find guys. Tio play that position. We asked for a lot of flexibility, versatility at a row line group. But that's a That's a niche position where everyone forgets like the most. Important part of play is taking care of that Quarterbacks center exchange. So it's important and our own asses gonna hold it down and we're confident in his ability. I want to ask you about the intersection of analytics in football, because, well, you're not on the field making those decisions. I'm sure you're involved in and how could come about we see way more teams go forward on fourth down now. You guys went forward on the fourth down past. Taquito forth into it. You're on 40 for which isn't a gimme. Go forward at the 44 yard line. We see that scene teams now go for 1/4 and one throne. 19. It's crazy watching with these teams Do we saw the Texans go for two at the end of the game to try to get up nine, which no one's gonna convince me that the right thing But whatever. Ah how did you guys look at this stuff? How How do you kind of melding together while we're using analytics to make a smarter but it doesn't control everything we do. There's a human element into it. There's a game flow into it. We've gotta factor all that in before we decide how we want to go ahead and approach this. Well, it's a good question. First of all, I mean, I think you're foolish if you just turn a blind eye to it and don't incorporated and everything you do, you know, we incorporated a lot in our college scouting process in our in our scouting process at the pro level. You know, we've got a tremendous staff that does great great work and kind on earth thing. You know, gyms and a man that's so cool that different ways that they help us. But then we also do have a game management. Ah, group that is up there in the box, talking with our coaches talking with Kyle. I think What gives me confidence is that Kyle listens to it all, but then also factors in other things that they're analytics, but just kind of the flow of the game and all right. I understand the numbers, but I don't feel like that's the right call right now, and he's very decisive with that. So we try to strike the right right balance. I think Kyle does a really good job of listening, but yet ultimately making his calling. I think that's what you have to do if you're just a computer out there, saying well, We're backed up that are, too. It's fourth and you know it, you know, fourth down and the chart says, Go for it. That sound too smart to me, But there's a time in place. Do you ever walk in there like you walk into the office like on a Friday Games on Sunday, Walk in there and you open the door and you go. What do you have for me this week? Nerds. Let's go everyday every shot this year. Frasier. Crazy Adult movements on Andrew Barry was really smart in Cleveland and made him his number two. They're in Cleveland. He's doing a great job, so but unfortunately we were well stocked there. So that group does a tremendous job. And, you know, I think we're doing a good job of striking that right balance of power. I can only assume you guys losing analytics. Ah, person in your in your personnel department. You just drive up and down 101, you know, on the side of your car, and they just run behind you celebrating, right? That's how you get it right. You start well toward working with Yeah, we crazy left way interviewed a bunch of people and a couple of people from up in Stanford that itwas warriors. We ended up having to settle for a dude from Arbor That was curing cancer or something like that and decided football, is it? Passion. You know, it's funny how that works. I love when people flex their universities. Did you hear what John said? We had to settle from a guy. Poor guy from Harvard says the Stanford dude. A cot that very nice I could I could. I could rule the world but instead I'm looking for 1/5 5th Street corner. Hey, let me let me ask you about yours your staff because it's never one guy. But who on your staff was the first one who brought up to Michael Hasty? Because, man I've loved what I've seen from hasty. I loved him in camp. I loved him at Baylor, and he's looking great so far, but is that is that you're running back? Coach is that you?.

"And right now is speaking to the Bay Area Media stay after the game press conference, A K a. What's wrong with various Niner players report? It seems like every Monday afternoon. A new prominent Niner has an injury of significance. This one This time. It is Raheem Mostert and Ben Garland, where he most going by our short term I r. With with a high ankle sprain, and Ben Garland Center has a calf injury. The specificity of the calf injury. I do not know at this point, but it is serious enough for Garland has to go and I are Remember Garland was was backing up at that center spot. So I guess Honus grassroot Guys if I'm remembering correctly answering your name correctly is going to be there at center. But the most one is where you just go. These guys just simply cannot catch a break. Injury wise because Tom, you were talking about it. The the importance of most of you saw it. In that game when he's on the field and how different it is when he's out on the field, and you know props to Jermichael Hasty, but he's not really most Coleman's not dream. Most of jerk McInnes not Raheem Mostert, not heaven him back there. Ah puts that put set off into the bind. No doubt. Yeah, My. My biggest fear is they will catch a break at some point literally. It's though, because I just I mean Most of it is such a massive cog. On that team. I mean, he just I don't want to say he is. Would Bosa is to the defence because he's not that big, but They want to run the ball and they need him. If they look up, they had Coleman would be a little bit of a different story because Coleman is a gadget to run the ball. He's kind of Coleman's kind of like the hybrid between Mostert and McKinnon, and that I'd catch a little bit. You can also run it. Oh, and then, and I shouldn't say most can't ketchup but you know, they use them on different type of routes. But itjust hurts. Because now you don't have that guy. Do you? Give the ball to 15 18 20 times a game and be Effective. I mean, they've given it to McKinnon. That may times but I think he averaged less than four years of Carrie. And most charges such a home run hitter. I mean, he he had a play last night. Where is Ah, pitch right. And he cut it back toward the middle of the field. I thought he would be gone. You just see him picking up speed through the teeth of the defense, and I thought, Oh, my gosh is easy is goingto he got one, right? Yeah. And then one day I caught him. One guy kind of God is like a seven or eight yard run, but it could have gone for you. Yeah, you just saw him. It's like, Oh, man, if he gets by this guy, there's one guy at the back and flat footed hill. Part of run right by that dude. But he gives one guy reached down, got his leg and it kind of slowed him up in the native tackling, But I mean it was no I want to say it was on the it was after the holding. I want to feel like a first in 20 Get 17 of a back. I think that on may have been seven. I thought, Oh my gosh, That's what that's what he does to you. It is a defense you make a break for. It was a 50 year run on first wrong. See after the brunch. Yeah, That's what it was cruel and I was like, Oh, You take one wrong step, and he was like CIA gone, and he also picks up the super tough yards for because there was a run on the first drive that I mentioned that was You know, Sometimes I think the second down and you thought was gonna be a third in five of being a third behalf because he just lowered his head smashed the DP That's gonna tackle him and then drug dudes like 33 to have four yards and almost got that first down. That's what he gives you and being That that's what college and hand wants to do. It's even mohr important that sets up everything except the team wants to do so that to me is just that is a massive Massive blow. That's too bad, you know, most or showed some incredible things in this game. He showed that incredible cutback lightning cut back on that run that you're talking about. Then he showed that he would lower the head and just pound the defender and was willing to take basically helmet to helmet contact for a for a yard. Then he had another play in the second quarter, where he was like a second eight run, where he made this really nice run and then threw a vicious, stiff arm on the defender, some he physical, he's so physical now I think they can get it done with hasty. And what if they have Wilson as well? Because maybe they can have a little bit of Because the one thing they could doom or of without most, because what most really what they Mrs the speed to the edge, But they can use Ai yuk on some place to try to stretch the defense that way without most hurt, but And try to fill in with the other guys, you know between the tackles, but I'm excited to see hasty mean Hasty went for over four yards carry last night at nine hard carries. When they knew you're going to run it. They know you're going to try to run out the clock and he's still at over four yards of Carrie and I just think that if he can get into some rhythm They? You know he could do the job. You couldn't do the job all year, but he could do the job for a month. I wonder how much of college Shana hands playbook he has to Not necessarily throw out or ignore, but he can't use because most it won't be there for however long you know how he might have to call the game different because you don't have The combination of power and speed that that most brings and on the flip side. I don't know how much Bill Belichick worries about anything. If Bill Belt Where is it all? But I'm just coming up with the Niners. Next opponent and you know, they're defensive coordinator. Most is not there. You don't worry about it. That's that's he's as important to get to your point, Tom about the importance of most heard on this team. It's It's It's Kittle number one. Garoppolo just because of the position the nature of that beast, and then it's most of you know, you say he's were either right behind him. Or maybe most next to drop lower a little bit ahead. He's a weapon. He might not be. You know, one of the top name known running backs. But considering what this Niner offense, Ah purports itself to be and what it needs to be forward to be successful. A team that can run the ball with power and with speed when you don't have your number one power and speed back back there. Your life is a defence coordinator. Looking forward to the Niners just got a little bit easier. He's just a weapon. I don't think I'm over using that word..

"They need some juice here, and I put your people on Twitter that it's time for hasty and I actually agreed and and and the Niners went ahead and gave him that. Shot and it doesn't look the same. But you know what? It does what most with haste either, But I do think he gave them some juice, and I think that's kind of what he brings to the table is he's got that ability to put his foot in the ground be decisive. They want cut go, which is when you run outside zone a cz. Much of the Niners do. That's everything, and and I think he's got that ability, so I think it's nice for them that he got from Carrie that meaningful carries in a game that was still in question. Under his belt, and if Remo Sturtz ankle and it looks like it's an ankle sprain, I don't know the extent of it yet. I'm sure we'll find out later today. If that's something that's going to keep him out. I think hasty, at least showed that he's up for the moment and it's somebody that's going to be continued to be involved, particularly Jeff Jeff Wilson, do you hear also continues to struggle with his injury. Just real quick. I know it's an injury. Probably kind will talk about But was there any word about Trent Williams and going into the tent at the end of the game there? Yeah, he came back. He came back in. So yeah, he had he had he had gotten they tested for the concussion, but he had cleared the protocol. So it looked like he just hope you know you got you got back to the head a little bit. Yeah. Think everything's gonna be fine with him. Two other ones that we're gonna have to keep an eye on our guitar on DH Ben Garland, both of whom left the game and didn't return, OK, and then you know, in the years I know you guys don't get to be in the locker room this year, so you're not getting to know guys or set up one on one interviews with Guiza's well this year, obviously zoom thingy in the previous years. Did you ever have a chance to sit down with Jason Verrett? I mean, this guy's turning into one of the 10. Most important guys on the team, right? Yeah. In every time a witness was getting emotional talking about him last night about his perseverance, you had a chance to ever talk to him or meet him or interview him or, you know, get to know the story. I talked to him a few times. But, yeah, that is definitely probably at the top of my list of stories that I would like to dive into here in the near future and really kind of To dig deep into you know how he was able to keep his head up through through all of that, But I'll tell you a quick anecdote that I've that I've learned from talking to other people around the league about him. Guys is, you know, he was drafted by the Chargers, Tom to Lesko, Uh and Tom Telesco thought so highly of Jason Moret throughout all of what he went through, not just because he was a good player and he was a pro bowler right away, but You know, throughout this time, you know he's going through his rehab that Tom Telesco had a photo, a large photo blown up like poster size in his office of Jason Jarrett, and I don't know. I don't know for sure. I want to find out if it's still there, but he just thought so highly of the guy's tenaciousness and his ability to keep fighting through all that adversity that, he added. I know the Niners and John Lynch kind of see him in the same way and it really isn't a basic story..

"The New York Jets. 40 Niners are wearing their home read. This is the Jets home opener. They're going white from head to toe Today. Both teams need a win. Obviously, the Jets started last year in Buffalo Orchard Park. Oh, and one They wound up 27 17 losers. They were down 21. Nothing late in the first half. They did not play well. The 40 Niners, The defending conference champions, controlled the game early, but then blocked punt got Arizona back into the game. They come in with a record of all in one Needing a win and there minus some of their top people today. You're absolutely right. Nothing special teams they gotta hold up. I mean, do your job within the returns in the coverage in the blocking certainly got to be better than they were last week, Especially on the road. Ball. Security will be a big one. And when you look at the Jets and everything that they want to do, it's it's ah lot of magic In terms of their rushers. They got a lot of guys that are blitzing from two point stance. I think the running backs have to be great in this game when they're coming on those pressures. You've got to be able to block them and get to the right guy. And that takes me right to the center and I d on the mic and setting the protection. All of that has got to be on point today when those guys aren't Blitzen. Running backs have got to be able to run routes on him and certainly have the ability to make big plays against those linebackers in passing and the 40 Niners have activated Ben Garland was actually on the roster, obviously inactive for the game last week against Arizona, but he's up for the game thoroughness grass. Sue, who did start last week for Garland has been nursing a high ankle sprain. Since August. The 18th when he suffered in practice did start and play well so well that we have to keep an eye on number 63 see if he can play the entirety of the game Timid if he can't Grasso was up today. Yeah, and and I think when you look at this offense, where are their challenges on the center in this offense, Because this offense has Offensive lineman. As you know that our athletic they're not the £330 mammoth people, their athletic guys that can run and move sideways. And when you look at Steve McClendon, he's going to line up right on the head. Of the center in Ben Garland. Today that is going.

"Jason Verrett hamstring out. For the game on Sunday. Ben Garland and Brendon I yuk. Both questionable fellows with their respective injuries. So one good one bad. Are you questionable? Let's project that he's going to play. Deebo ain't no projected. It's clear. He will not play he is out for Sunday. Well, I expect a lot of of two tight ends. I think I really think you'll see a lot of that last year. If you look at the numbers, the Cardinals were Dead last in the NFL and what they called D V o against tight ends And they were. They allowed the fourth most yards, too tight end So Kittles already strong Now you get killed and a healthy Jordan Reed, who's been off for a long time. I think you'll see a lot of that 12 personnel and we'll see if Arizona could match up to that. Hell, the way we're going, Everyone's questionable You don't name itself is questionable. Not probable. No bad question. We're all way. Well, questionable. Howard, our Ah man, A just Well, look last night got us kicked off to Ah, the NFL this year, then Rod always enjoys watching his Susan, take hotel. Everything that was gonna happen. Didn't did that offensive line garbage Coach. Jab Ege new players replacing all pros, Garbage Houston Texans garbage and then lost by more than 9.5. But what's also watching David Johnson look good. You know what? Why don't I give you? I don't think Johnson is going to last the year. Good was Eric reads little brother. He is He is becoming a really good player. That's safety, So I don't know he well, I mean, I expected Can't city tow cover? That number was 9.5. And they wanted they'd get what was the final. 34 2034 20 Because we went over. It went over. By a half point. The first bad beat of the year that gave had no business going over the total on it, and it did well dog over that with Chad Millman. But there's so many things that had to happen for that thing to go over. It was like a come on really already going, do that people are ready. Oh, yeah, Funny. Absolutely. Sheets are so stacked man that when I was my takeaway watching that thing I mean, Clyde Edwards flare over him in the draft. Absolutely loved him and And love to model issue, and he and he wasn't he was under utilized cause l issues got chase and Jefferson and just a million guys who are awesome. And you know, he looked terrific last night and Casey Has a ton of speed all these weapons. I don't know, guys if I said Casey or the field. You guys are taking the field, right? Yes, ofcourse. Yes. You think he could be a little dynasty here Because Okay. Oh, you want you won't make a bit. Where's Willard? Now? Let me get in on some of this time. You know you want to make a bet early? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, because you know the numbers are but I know I'm not the gambling type, but I am too taken other people's money tight. When they put it out there, I'll take the field. You can at Kansas City. Give me a number. Make it light on yourself. What? We'll see what that number is? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. You just What? What do you think it is? I mean, it's not even Ewan here, and then you just start at 5 to 1 or something. What do you think it is? You said, I think Casey is going to be a dynasty. You guys have got to take the field. I am one of the guys you were referring to. I'll take the field. You could have Casey, make it light on yourself. It's an interesting bet. I mean, it was to this I mean, they did suffer. They're already down Ward and Breeland on the corners. They already lost two corners, so that's not good. But, man, if you look in Kansas City in the sea and the talent and you've got, um, you've got the defense kind of come together a little bit under Spagnola in year two, and they re signed Chris Jones, and they have the GM locked up and the head coach and the quarterback. Well, he just added in all world running back ultra air going to be I they're going to be. So you put your money where your mouth is. For what? I'll bet it. Wager. You don't think I'm going out having a soup lines coming up? I know you're definitely game. We gotta have passed headlights coming up. We got Chad Millman had a meeting for the action network. We'll see what that number is. Maybe Chad can throw us that number says there's no number that we are. We look back. You tell me what the number is that we want a bit and then we can virtually shake on this thing And we can get it poppin Because if you want to give me the field and take Kansas City a stack team, please, please listen. Make that happen. What if it's 10 to 1? Now? Here we go. It's the Tober. I'm just saying, there's there's gonna be a number on this. It's not gonna be It's not gonna be. I forget it. Forget it, because I already back like when I'm not backpedaling. I'm saying if you're willing, I'm saying if you're you want to give me 10 to 1 if it is 10 to 1, No, don't. The bet was you Take the field. I got Kate the city. I think the United States That was the bet. That's what you said. But you started to move maneuver into talking about that's two gods, though you said, you think Casey's a dynasty if they do look very good. "And Levi's Stadium. We are 1045 sworn friend gets better Each year He came in and played at high levels of rookie put a lot of pressure on him as a rookie. And that pressure paid off because it gave him a ton of experience. He rose to the challenge then, and he's taken it to a whole another level each year, Fred as much of a pro as I've been around while he's not in here, I'm sure he's in his apartment doing bag drills or reason living just going crazy that it can't be in here. So Fred's a stud. Whenever you can't come back, he will be ready to go. It's Kyle Shanahan. We told yesterday that Fred Warner's on the Cove in reserve list does not mean he has covert 19 could mean and what we've heard is that that he was exposed to somebody who did. So we're keeping up to date on that as we are 12 days away from the opener. Against the Arizona Cardinals. So that is the latest with Fred Warner. By the way, Where are you in your preparation process for that game? I mean, I I haven't done much on your zone. I'm trying to get more video on them from their scrimmage and just watching them. Ah, I've completed Saturday. I had Saturday off 40 Niners practice. So you know it's 58 In that card I do in every player for the 40 Niners, which will be my resource for the entire year. Just everything they've done throughout their lives and scouting notes and things. I've completed all those. I've left a few holes because it's just I think there's going to be a really interesting cut down in the NFL, and it comes up on on this Saturday. Labor Day, Saturday, September, the fifth When you gotta cut and your most teams are at 80. Because if you have word, 90, you had to separate your squads and they didn't want to do that. So a lot of teams have already cut. But they're gonna cut from 80 or so Down, Teo 53, You know you have a handle on Maybe 45 of those guys, but I'm going to save the last few to make sure they make the roster and then there's going to be guys there con in limbo. Where they'll establish the 53 on Saturday. And then 24 hours to establish the practice squad, which is 16. This year. It used to be 10. It was gonna go to 12 and then with covert, they went to 16. And the last six spots there. Six spots of the 16 Khun B veteran guys that Khun have, Ah, you know, played 15 Trent Williams on the practice squad if you want. I mean, you're not going to do that You'd be an idiot. And they're not going to do that. They're not idiots how good he is. But you could and there be now somebody could pluck him off the roster, so you wouldn't do that, and they could put them on their 53. So, but I think we're you know, we got a few roster. Battles to look at. Tomorrow when they go back on the practice field. And we'll do the show in the morning and then I'll go watch. I think that you know, One thing that I'm looking for is Ben Garland. How bad has been garlands ankle? Is he able to come back and play centre? Ah, it's a It's a reasonably bad I'm not sure if it's higher low. I haven't been around to ask, but I will tomorrow. And so if Garland can't play that sets off a you know some dominoes that fall if Garland can play Then it's Compton brunch scale, probably battling for right guard, but Give Garland can't go. Then Who's the center? Would it be Brunskill with that gift? Compton? You know the right guard spot and then you're You know you're little bit weaker there. If you have garlanded center brunch goes proven he can play everywhere on the line. So I think that's the big issue, which is from a health standpoint. I'm expecting the other guys, too. They may not be on the practice field tomorrow. But you know, both so and Ford and Kittel and use check have got some soft tissue, hammy stuff. Flag squads, just feeling a little sore. I think they're they're fine. And then you know what happens, Friend obviously is going to be able to get cleared on they, you know, they turn around the rapid testing pretty quickly when you're positive, so it's possible he would be on the field tomorrow practice. It also could linger. A little bit and then ah So who would wear the green dot? How would they do that without Fred? And he didn't practice Monday or Sunday. So we've already seen a little bit of it with some of the younger guys, but S so Yeah. I mean, I'm I'm good to go. If they were going to play a game right now, I could do it. The Arizona Cardinals will have no idea what they're going to do, and We'll get their packet in a week's time, so it's just a little different, John not having preseason games. It's different for me. Cause that's his kind of the run up. It's just what you do. It's a process and for the players. It's very similar, and it's just a weird time. So I think the first game is always a lot of weirdness because they're not going to show you exactly what they're gonna do. They're not going to show you their overlord exotic. Trekker a pressure package, but they are going to get into their shell and, you know, give you a look or how they're going to play. Where right now? I mean, it's who knows what what they do what they do what the 40 Niners do because they know in the preseason. Sometimes you have to show it a little bit because you need to wrap it to be good at it, and it's like this is it. This is a real game, and there's Practice is just not the same. You could have a scrimmage and you know all that, But it's just a different environment. When you're Put the uniform on and you're going out of the stadium, and it's a real game. It'll be weird without fans. That's going to be weird. But I think this whole preseason the fact that we don't have any preseason games makes it for everybody. I think in the league and me at the very bottom Of the wrong It's just a little bit of a great unknown this year. I got to do it. No problem. Man. 40 Niners Fix sponsored by digging the health public health is a team effort to stop the spread of covert 19. It's simple wear mask, wash your hands and practice proper social distancing. That's a message..

"Tackle second down eight. There's a hand off to most it off the right side and pick forward inside the 25 yard line bangs down of the 23 yard line, and they cannot stop the clock. Now. Just take 40 seconds off every snap now third down in three So it's very simple. The 40 Niners They're a couple of first downs away from going back to the Super Bowl, and I'll tell you what those big dogs are eating up front. Ben Garland just takes Kenny Clarke and puts him on roller skates. Laken Tomlinson gets on B. J. Goodson Itjust puts him flat on his back offensive line having a night tonight 40 Niners in the huddle. Play clock, 10 4.5 to play in the game. They break the huddle with 87654 25 to play Garoppolo in the gun, Most or two was left there down in three gunrunner. Mostert breaks one tackle, Not the 2nd 1 They dropped them short. They bring in Robbie gold. Now you bring it, Robbie. Gold down. Kick this field goal. You're up. Three scores were up 37. Very goni. They're going to bring in a rabbit gold. And look to move 17 points ahead of them with a two point conversion. Maybe to be down three scores. They're running out of time. If he could make this kick, and they're gonna take the clock all the way down. What is his 42 43 it is a 42 yard field goal. From the right hash mark just inside the right hash mark. I think I know we're going to call a timeout. Bobby Gold's coming over to take it down for 3 to 1 timeout. 40 Niners. Cal Shanahan's game.

"At I think they can get by with the offense of linemen they have bring in some guys they they've done a really good job of figuring out bargain types of guys who can step in and play well whether it's like person or Ben garland Brunskill or you'll be dropping it just in school so that's a pretty good place to start they are but I don't think they need much but they need to hold on to some of the guys who are coming up on contracts and in ad if you look at it did you pieces here and there and I think they'll be ready to roll again no matter that the forty Niners don't have the the the salary cap space this offseason they've had in years past and about twenty one million dollars or from what I've read and some of these players are our contract you can do in the future like George cattle deforrest Buckner some you have to do right now like what do you do with Jimmie ward and at my main take away from the end of season pressure which John and Kyle yesterday was the quote from John Lynch regarding Eric I'm standing here he said it we want to find a way to keep him and make him a part of the forty Niners for a long time which would mean yeah they had a mechanism to tag them what they'd like to go long term so as you see ward is a pressing need is contracts up Armstead contract up Buckner new to extension at some point the four did not play as many snaps as I certainly thought he was going to be able to play when the season started and based on what he played last year with Kansas city this dynamic between Buckner Armstead and Ford can they keep all three and also bring Jimmie ward back to play single high so how does that all work to you eight yeah well I don't think they see and hear a franchise arms dad you know it for a longer term deal you can limit the cost here one if they bring it back on if they can't work out a long term deal and they decide to franchise and that's an eighteen million dollar cap hat right there where is if they sign up to a long term extension you can structure it in a way that made the only jobs nine million year winding and you'll get million year to that maybe twenty or so down the road but I think you're underestimating the George could all factor here Bob does because he's played three years and he's played three years or relative get relatively speaking.

"It's one of my main points on this the amount of, publicity, and recruiting the athlete that got drafted could do for their branch would be huge. From the recruitment angle wheels. Do you do you agree that from a recruitment standpoint that it could be very beneficial to any three of the service academies to have somebody playing in the NFL? And shouldn't they look at it that way? Well, if a look at it that way now that's why the two years for normal student at a service kademi, it's four years. Correct. The if you if you go to the NFL, and you have have that shot of making it professional, you get to you get that that to two years you have to serve and then you get the rest turn into go to recruiting or whatever during the off season do something. Ben girl does with your national guard. So I don't see any difference. If. And I asked you this before the break. What is Troy Calhoun job at air force? He's a football coach, right? Is in part of that job description to make these guys the best. Best football players. They could possibly be. Not necessarily. I mean, what what what do we go? Like, this is the reason why no one goes to the air force games. Because they're because there's a sense that that it doesn't matter in like the when when we start looking at air force in saying, yeah football does matter. It's not secondary. This is a major college football like play independent in play a bunch of scrimmages play intermurals if we're playing in a conference like the mountain west it should be about winning football games in producing big time football players. And if you of those can go the NFL that's great because then at the very least from recruitment standpoint, it helps out Troy Calhoun and Troy Calhoun can save look at Jalen Robin net or western steel Amer look what they've been able to do. Now, you could come here and get the best of both worlds. That's what I'm saying. Why can't they have the best of both worlds? Why why can't they go just like someone? Wants to go to Harvard. Why can't they why can't they have both? Why can't they have the military training to set themselves up for their we always three around these athletes who go broke after their playing career? Wouldn't it be great if more athletes win to service academies and got trained? So then when they were done with the athletics, they could have a built in job. With the military. They could go be financially secure for years to come. I don't see why that's a bad thing. Whether you serve two years or four or after it doesn't matter you're going to have that job. Therefore, you when you're done. When you're in the military, you're in the military. So you till you say amount, right? I just I just think it is more detrimental to. An athlete to not be able to pursue the athletics. As opposed to the other way around. I think it's. It's great that there are instances where but I would argue that Jalen Robin is perhaps the most NFL ready prospect that Troy Calhoun has ever produced and he didn't get drafted at all right? Because of his military commitment. Right. I mean that hurt him. And now he's constantly trying to come back. So it's great that there's been garland and those other guys, but there's also Jalen Robin net. And when when if the easiest thing be to allow them to defer it like would Ben garland turned down into firm, if they allowed him like if they told Ben garland, you know, what you get to go automatically to the NFL..

"That's really believe that it is. It's an awesome program in it. And it does the community. Well, it does our nation. Well, and I've said it before in in in my opinions are are not worth much to the air force or or anybody else for that matter, my listeners, sometimes included, but but I do think that not only if you're doing like, Ben garland with the falcons is a is a great example. He does stuff with the I think the national guard or or the air force reserves kind of helps out on that end. But I also think just you being a professional athlete is a great recruitment tool to say, you don't have to choose one or that you can be great. As a student. You could be great as an athlete, and you can be great as you know, as somebody serving their country. So I have been of the mindset that I believe that you playing professional soccer is beneficial to the academy into to the air force. So I wish nothing, but the best for you in that regard, and hopefully everything works out pretty well for you. I'm curious before. I let you go Tucker for those who maybe haven't seen you play. What what are we gonna expect from Tucker Bonet the MLS level? Who would you compare yourself to? Tough one. You know, I'd like to think highly of myself, and as a player, I've only develops come into the college level, and, you know, reached a new height height that many college athletes will never meet, and you know, I take pride in that. And I think that you know, I still have a lot long long soccer ahead of me. And I know that I can develop as a player even more into you're not this next level. It's going to be extremely challenging for the first year. So, but there's no doubt in my mind that I can get adopted and the, you know, make that make that squad in you know, maybe showing some some analyze games next season. But as far as who I relate myself to you know, that's a tough one. You you're Tucker bone, and that's. That you're gonna be you're going to be your own guy, which I totally respect Tucker. Congratulations on a great career at air force, especially this year, beating DU you and everything that was awesome to see and super excited for what you guy in your future. Because no matter what happens. I it's bright for you. So appreciate you joining me, and hopefully we can find a chance to chat on down the road. Of course. Thank you for bringing me on if your shit, son. Yeah. I appreciate you Tucker. Thanks Tucker bone from the air force men's soccer team. Now, a member of the Seattle. Sounders joining us here on drive time sports. I think again, that's the thing that gets lost a little bays that these guys don't want to say forget the air force. I don't want to do any air force stuff. I think most of them are like I want to do both I, but if I have to go straight into the air force and not be able to do this. I'm may never be. Able to come back. Ben garland is a unique case. So a lot of these guys are saying look I wanna to do both. But if you make me only do one the air force side of it. I'm gonna lose my opportunity over here. And that's what that world class athlete program is is all about. So I wish nothing, but the best for Tucker in the future, and thanks to Marcus and everyone at air force for a Guinness in touch with Tucker. Two eight six zero zero four six coming up next.
