Labor on the properties, which have been vacant for decades will be provided by the Building and Construction Trades Council pilot project is called work for home and will require the future occupants to put in sweat equity. I'm not happy that I had to give anything but I think we certainly respect the encampment leaders Kelvin Jeremiah, CEO of the Philadelphia Housing Authority, and says the protest is living at 21st and Bridge had been covering a lot slated to break ground for a new supermarket next week, he says. If he didn't deliver the land to developers, by Monday evening, pH would have lost $52 million. But as of this afternoon at six o'clock we are in control of the Region Avenue site. I'm surprised And heavy about it. Jennifer Bennett is an organizer with Occupy PHH. They set up the Ridge Avenue camp June 28. Now they're moving with the permanent housing option. It's just for this camp so that other negotiations for the bigger camera still on global fundraising is still up in the air. Jeremiah says The rehab is expected to begin in 30 days.

Mayor Kenny has been talking with camp organizers because their demands unfeasible, he says, though the city isn't looking for a confrontation here, so the camp was never cleared out. We still see the tents up here along the Ben Franklin Parkway protesters walking around the grounds we've been talking with the people who live there by their pretty shocked the city didn't clear out the camp yet. Members Of Homeless Encampment Discuss ‘Lack’ Of Affordable Housing, Mismanagement At Philadelphia Housing Authority

"The city of Philadelphia has decided not to remove the homeless encampment on the Ben Franklin Parkway. After all that we're supposed to do so tomorrow, our city Hall bureau chief Hey, What about youse? Pat Lobe is live with the update. Yes, in the city had said the camp was closed. By nine AM, however, he camp organizers and residents resolutely refused to go. They said often they would not leave without force. Oh, and Mayor Kenny says using police officers to remove that camp is something that would be a last resort, something he hopes that doesn't come, too. And so negotiations have continued with the organizer's and as a result, the city is post calling the closure in hopes of reaching a literal resolution, he says. That's been the goal all along. And he will be meeting personally with them and hope that they can come to some resolution. The city wants to place the residents of the encampment who actually are homeless into beds, either treatment beds, covert prevention bed shelter beds. However, the camp organizers have barred at the city from sending outreach workers into the camp. They'll, just from the perimeters to the officials say they have managed to place 17 people on DA. The exact number of homeless people in the camp is not known, but it's got to be 100 or even more so they they do have a ways to go on that. But city officials say that will be contingent on outreach workers getting into the camp and getting access to the people there in Japan. I know the city has said the Kamman organizers have changed their demands several times. Remind us why this cabin is there in the first place. Well, it's a protest of the lack of services for homeless people or the lack of affordable housing in the city. In general, it was started not by homeless people. The organizer's actually go home at night to sleep and come back in the morning, but they invited homeless people into the camp to join the protest. And Ah, and as I said, the exact number who Came is not known, but it was, you know, certainly dozens, and, um, so it's been there for more than a month. Now. It went up June 7th. And so it's been atleast five weeks that it's been there, and the city says that it's become increasingly unhealthy and unsafe for the encampment to stay. It's on an athletic field that it's normal used before. Use sports. Ah, it not as a place to live and so again. They're hoping to resolve this encampment. Thie organizer say they won't go without immediate, affordable housing. That, of course, is something that requires a lot more than the city acting unilaterally. I love with this live pat, Thanks for the update that encampment on 22nd Street right along the Ben Franklin Parkway. And again, the city will not force the homeless there to move. Negotiations between the city and organizers of the encampment of this protest will continue. The city originally had said that tomorrow at 9 a.m. would be the deadline for that encampment to clear out otherwise police would move in and force them out. Camp organizer said they wouldn't do so voluntarily so police would have to force them out and Mayor K. Kenny saying today that I didn't want that to happen So again. Negotiations continue over that encampment along with Ben Franklin Parkway. Stay with

KYW Harrisburg bureau chief, Tony Romeo reports. The state Senate returned for one post election day to elect leaders for the new section and to hear farewells to and from members who won't be part of that new session among the mostly tenant governor, Mike stack lost his primary bid for another term in the new session. Republicans will still control the Senate, but with a slimmer majority before he hung up his gavel for the last time stack made an appeal for bipartisanship. One of the sad ironies that I've learned during my career is that it's often the most reasonable and moderate voices of this chamber that become the most vulnerable, and it's been speculated that with these big democratic victories that somehow bipartisanship is going to become even more difficult and progress less likely, I hope this is not the case. John Fetterman mayor of Braddock in allegany county will preside over the Senate as Lieutenant governor when the new session begin. In January in Harrisburg, Tony Romeo. KYW newsradio.
