"Poll question, which so many of you are taking time to vote on today on our twitter feed at HR, n., and of course on our facebook page as well was who wins. Today's met Mile Pretty Simple, and we gave you the three favorites code of honor, Vico Mackenzie or other in if you choose. Choose other. Please make sure that you specify well so far. It's pretty tight code of honor getting thirty seven percent of the vote that coma three percent Mackenzie just twenty three percent of the vote, no votes yet for Hog Creek Hustle but I have a feeling. That's WHO Vicki Foley would pick was voting on this particular poll this morning and she's with me now here on the horse racing radio, Network Vicky Good Morning. Good Morning. You know. Don't let that poll. Deter you hog. Creek hustled thirty two one on the morning line. How do we get done today? Well. He's training fantastic. You could ask them to be doing better. I know we're. Well I thought I would take you on a little trip down memory lane here. Vicki and look back to thirteen months ago at Belmont Park when this is the way it sounded with. Hog Creek Hustle storming down the stretch. Silver on top the leader by three quarters of length to Wendell Fong, here comes on his Bishoff, looming large on the outside, and the three of them turned for home with autism mischief, making them over the outside up strike silver Wendell fondness right behind them heartbreak, hustle on the move and clothing, nitrous step against the outside of these calls again to with Barranco but private various Cook, pre council nitrous outside. Hog Creek Castle came from the back of the pack that day Vicki I know you remember it well I. Just thought it'd be nice to take you back there one more time. What a performance that afternoon and hoping for similar again later today. Absolutely, It was amazing the race he ran that day and That's what we're hoping for today We're up against. You know we ran with three year olds last year. as we're. Having to step up. Of course in this race. And Seven eighths was his perfect. Distance and But we feel like he'll go the mile. And again we're just going to step back and make our final run down stretch. Yet you know it's it's interesting. Since that win the woody Stevens last June by the way this the last time that he found the winner circle. He's faced off with some heavy hitters. He hasn't really duct anybody He returns to greatest company after that second place finish as the favorite with allowance horses at Churchill. We thought that was the perfect five Unfortunately, unfortunately, like Tony Allen jumped up. And ran a heck of a racist day. We just couldn't run him down. And After they're just really. Aren't any what knee other places to really to run. And we were hoping to run a keeneland. Believe! They had the Commonwealth there back. Before everything shut down seven eighths of a mile, which was going to be a perfect spot. And they for some reason didn't bring that race back. For their short meat. So and Our owners. We just decided that we we wanted to go. We didn't want to run six anymore. Or six and a half. And we feel like that. that. He deserves this opportunity. To and we know, he loves racetrack. "The victory ride kicks off the stakes action here at Belmont Park tomorrow afternoon grade three early in the caught has just the feel of five phillies. GOING TO GO Six and a half furlongs as for the three year old's warning line favors one francs. Rock Cat Hall of Famer Bill Will Give Fellow Hall of Famer John Velazquez a leg up and this phillies done very little wrong on her career. She's three for seven. With four second-place finishes ran second in a couple of graded stakes, including the grade one spin away up at Saratoga last year last seen winning a third level allowance optional claimer. She uses stakes. Winner took the any limit kick off three year old season three starts back. and. Probably the only reason that this race isn't later in the card is that it's a five Horsfield and Franks? Rakhat is three to five on the morning line, and she may be the the loan speed in race, so she's going to be tough to beat at three to five, but that's a pretty short price, considering there some pretty good up and coming phillies near now I think number four center. I'll I'm going to give her another shot for. For Chad Brown and Joel Rosario Sheila Great Getting Her Maiden Win Gulfstream Park, when bet down to three to five at the end of March then came back in a tough allowance race at Churchill downs where she was really over bet, she was three to five that day against another very impressive maiden winner of this one for Steve Asmussen in casual casual ran a great race that day center I'll had all sorts of problems. She didn't break that well. She had trouble during the race, and she was just really never in at any point. I think it's a racy can kind of draw a line through? If she runs closer to the way she did and her debut. I think she's the one that could give Franks rock cat. The biggest problem Franks rocket will probably get the lead I would think Rosario would have center I'll sitting justin behind her and seeing if they can outgun into the line going six and a half furlongs. With you I'm going to take a shot with center. Rile planner. If? When I plan! Early took five tomorrow I will use both Franks rocket and center, but I'll tell you what I think. You can make a case also for up in smoke was undefeated and sprints. She's four five and a career. Lone blemish came when George Weaver tries to stretch her out Hollywood wildcat. Go at Gulfstream Park. She's raced exclusively of Gulfstream, in fact, steady diet once. Once a month February march April may June now. She gets a race in July. Here over Big Sandy, she wanted the game face overboard last time out for weaver Rod Ortiz Junior. Who wrote her in her debut against fellow Florida breads down at Gulfstream Park's in the climb back aboard for the first time. Since that day looks, you'll need a little help up front if Franks, rockets able to set an easy pace I. She's going to be very very tough. I think Senator I'll be the first one to come calling. Those are the two up in smoke. If you're looking to three deep, I don't think you need to center for Bobby and I race number three goes as the great three six and a half for a long victory ride go to the end of the card. Eleven race card like I said earlier, and the final four races make up an all stakes pick four, and it starts in reasoning with the greed three poker. Flat Mile on the turf for many years. This was the fourth of July staple. On the naira calendar here it is now as part of a super five stakes card. In, the poker though. On the widener, so they come out of that shoot. On the clubhouse turn we get a field of eight entered for the turf as a main track. Only it's all relevant with the way. The weather's been here. I would imagine you know there's supposed to be some rain. We're recording the show Friday afternoon supposed to be some rains rather day on Friday and into the evening. I can't imagine it enough to take this off the turf, so let's say it will be a field of eight.

Dr Post's Rider on Unbridled Win at Gulfstream

"He is yet another late developer who may benefit quite a bit from a delayed and revamped triple Crown Dr Poster respond to urging size all over him with the tax rate top of the lane on the outside attack. But right from between Dr Post Doctor Post now up for the lead attack rated second let there be no doubt doubters best. It's Dr Post Uneven. Money winner that win. At Gulfstream in the ungraded unbridled stakes was the first time Dr Post had run a mile or longer. He'd run into sprints before that winning one this year and finishing fourth in his debut at Belmont Park last July and while his sire quality road one multiple graded stakes at a mile and an eighth doctor posts never wanted longer than seven eighths of a mile. So I'm pretty sure that when trainer Todd pletcher and owner Vincent Viola learned that the Belmont stakes would be shortened from a mile and a half to a mile and an eighth. They were probably not to dismayed. Dr Posts next start might come in the Belmont and Soda Talk About Him to talk about the return of racing in New York and other related topics we welcome in the gate. The man who has the best seat in the House to watch Dr Post his rider the two time defending clips award winning writer Iran Ortiz Junior. Tell us about all that. He wasn't bitching horses. I gotTA using monitor be to keep their then. Golly talk was the intimidate. Then we get through then. What getting now because he was seeing the horse. And what's more comfortable for me to start going because I can ride then. Finally when he gets. Put THE HEAD IN FRONT. You just take off like he got some work. Your go no yet can be a nice sort down the road will. You've said that when he grows up a little mentally it'll help him now. What shows you that. He's not yet mature in his mind. Not You know not Betty Serious on the do can feel it when do right. We'll fill their own horses. Datum care they. They know what they're doing he's Joan hordes talent but he don't know yet what he's doing you know he's looking. He spoke from the hotel sometimes. he running away from from the horse when he go by. When went to go by you look him? He's like drifting earlier so that mainly feel he's agreement. Nothing happen you just follow. Whatever I went through you know you raised it said Anita on Memorial Day you've run at Gulfstream and Churchill and will soon be returning to New York. How difficult is it to go through the testing process at each track to be cleared to come in and race? It better for you know like that's thing. I just really like three or four times. It's not too bad for me and I'm happy because like that. I'm okay to see my family. You know after I check from other also. I'm Don T my baby so I'm glad they do. They do hopefully they keep doing it their way to how challenging has it been to learn the different procedures that each track is taking to make sure that you follow all those safety and health rules. I looked a day. Should do think being roaming just enjoying sometime? He thought you're very very straight. You know I love it. I love it. They keeping rate start by just right there. "The state reds will be on display. Here at the big tomorrow Broadway. It's a hundred thousand six furlongs four. The state bred fillies a field of six. The exact from the lava. Dodd back in here. That was going seven eighths. This one's going six cash offer collared and ran down kept true that day. That was going seven. This one's going six. She lives at one of the favorites. Big rebound here. We go somewhere else. I ended up going with one of the choices but I thought it was a really competitive field for for just a six pack. I thought they got some some good players in here. Cash offer The morning line favorite has really. Reinvented herself the last couple of starches. Become able to sit and make a run even though you know. She's still one of the quickest breakers out there The cutback to six furlongs concerns me. A little bit With her I know she likes the trip. It concerns me from the inside draw Horse I was interested in was the one out of orbit as well if the race was a little bit longer than six. I might have taken a shot with With her as a price she's turning back from the mile and they've bay ridge where she found herself on the lead for very tepid fractions tired late. I think she's going to be strong. My concern is her breaking from the fence and the short trip all the way turning all the way back to six furlong so I'm going to try and get her in the money a little bit. I'm still a fan of the number. Five kept true with the speed to her outside. I think she just going to let the speed six stones in the road go the cutback to three quarters. Promise of a fast track this time. I think that can help. Make the difference. I'm going to go with G. Ahmadi and kept trip. Yeah so AM I. I like the fact you know. Both of these phillies are accomplished at six cash. Offer End Cap Jones. To be honest. I don't think anybody else win. This race My late pick five. Pick four it'll be those two and that'll be the end of it I'll say this I think and I know cash offer three for five with two seconds at six furlongs I think the cutback benefits kept true. More I did. She has a little struggle right even the six and a half furlong way. She won At Belmont Park. She was fresh that day. That's when she's GonNa WanNa do that. I just going six furlongs. It's a little bit more of an edge to kept true. She gets back on track as well. I'll take kept true over cash offer. They're the only fuel phillies. I'm using in the hundred thousand dollar Broadway. It goes race eight on the nine Ray. Saturday called here at the big a post time all week. presidents. We've we have racing on Monday here. "British idiom is you heard the call ridden by hobby or Castellano trained by Brad Cox who has been so good for so many years he is now trained one thousand two hundred eight winners in his career and that total includes those three victories that he had yesterday to Keelan one at Belmont Park but none none more special than that grade one Darlie Abe's win and Brad is with me now here on H. R. R. N. Brad Good Morning Congratulations. Thank you good good morning. How you guys doing things are good my friend. Dr You still kind of on a high after that big win. Absolutely they had several breezes this morning at your show just kind of wrapping things up yeah. That's that's a win. You definitely you know saver for a while. They're foreign feud between the great ones yeah. What's that light for a trainer when you show up to work. The next day is kind of like a victory lap around the race track where everybody's coming up and shaking your hand and congratulating you you know it's it's it's good. I mean you know it's it makes it easier to get up in the morning. I can tell you that when you you know just having good horses to look at watch them work watching breeze. He's checking the next day. F You know post race stuff like that so you know it's good horses which is get up every day and do this force. The you know have horses than move forward young horses Oaks Derby British Cup type horses what you're looking for so it definitely makes getting up a little easier. I promise you that yeah and you've been around so many good ones but certainly British. Idiom is looking being the part at this point in her career and let's remind people. This was only her second career start. She's now a perfect two for two after breaking her maiden at Saratoga back in the middle of August. It look back on that race from yesterday she she won very impressively very easily. Share your thoughts on the performance. I I mean it it. was you know to think he was going to go over and perform like that no way. I mean you know she. She just she just blew just spectacular performance and you know watching watching the race I mean broke with higher did a great job of keeping up in the race not necessarily on the League exactly what you like to see setting off a couple of horses a relatively you you know reasonable pace the backside. I think he was laying fourth and I looked at my sister and I said she's in a perfect spot. I mean she's got no excuse from here and then when she brings it up to the leaders eaters to three eighths. Kinda started looking at some of the horses behind us like I think she's got these in front of her when she's come up to fairly I think you can go buy these and then obviously I was kinda looking for perfect perfect alibi and szucs Philly and I saw so perfect alibi was kind of interesting you know if she responds when heavier ask this things over and she did and you know the only thing I told you can't tell the guy I don't give them any instructions at all jocks but the only thing I told him I said it's a short wire so don't don't you know short stretch. Yeah I wire so just when you turn for home ever position and he did just that she responded well. It was very very impressive race. Did you know this philly could be this good in this caliber when you first laid eyes on her no really well not when I first laid eyes on that yeah you have to go through several steps. You know obviously months and months of preparation to really get a line on we had this. Philly keeneland England then we moved into this summer and she was really stepping for stepping up and you know acting like she was a good horse we breeze brought her to Churchill with the intent of running her at Saratoga and Yep. We just left our church. I I can't remember exactly how it was about just her last work before she ran at Saratoga. was from the gate at Churchill she'll and thought you know this phillies going to be awfully tough at Saratoga auction race. We'd like to a lot so and you know come to find find out. It was like that morning. There was a buzz I was actually at Churchill today. She broke her maiden Air Togo but there was a little buzz kept hearing like you know they're stranded like horses turning like Susan. I like four or five of them in there and you know she. I think lots of times like you know I thought she would have been down a little more and she wasn't. I just think it was a you know a lot of people like horses in the race and the silly it was second obviously came back and broke her maiden. Belmont which was a positive You know just a couple of weeks ago so I uh I think it was even though it was restricted maiden race it was decent strong maiden races well so she received a big figure out of it to that. That was the one thing that Japan Academy Rag Number. You know a couple of days later and I thought you know she moves forward off that you know she's a she's a serious horse. She obviously did it. Just took us a while to get her back to the races we point for the Pocahontas and she the week before she breezed in the breeze was just okay and We've put a blood on her blood worker blitz count. Where's off a little bit so we just decided to skip the Pocahontas in point for talking with trainer Brag Cox Looking back on yesterday's big win in the grade. One DARLIE also vitek was British idiom. She is now punched her ticket to the Breeder's cup juvenile fillies which will be held at Santa Anita in Arcadia California about well one month from today. Hey we'll be breeders cup Saturday Brad. What do you do now over the next four weeks to make sure that she stays in peak form and she's ready to fire her best shot in the Breeders Cup. Well just you know as of right. Now you know I believe we have a plane scheduled to go out on Tuesday before so that's the twenty ninth we'll just go out then with whatever we have that's earn whatever earn their way to the Breeders Cup and you know just who works. I think you know nothing fancy. I mean you know she got a lot out of yesterday's yesterday's race being the second career start and you know just hoping she comes out of in good shape so far so good she scoped great. Last night looked good last night. Put her to bed and she looked at this morning. So you know Oh everything's positive with her will to this point and you know like I said we'll bring her back to Churchill worker twice and then off to California to before as long as everything goes well when you get an opportunity unity to maybe add a couple more grade wants to your resume later today you have Juliette Fox Trot going in the grade one first lady here at Keeneland and then you'll send out in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont Park. You'll send out arc low in there so let's start with Juliet Fox Trot. Tell me a little bit about her really Nice Philly. I mean it took a really tough being California. Last time we got was beaten by. I think the two thousand eighteen races and the silica so I mean I think right if the wires the only time she was in front on of us we got back in front of her past the wiring dot great really nice really think the world ever very very classy filly to deal with in just just real real nice philly that train them and just very straightforward. Does everything alleged WanNa see a horse do of the mornings and obviously the afternoons as well since she's been here in North America America and just amazing philly not real big. I mean she she's. She's a beautiful really beautiful. I- owner beautiful head up but it's not a big big philly typical. I think you know think cut back to a mile. I think is a I think she can do anything between a mile. Maybe even a mile and a quarter anything in there but I always like a horse that you know in a mile in eighth last time cutting back to the mile today. I think a positive that she drew well in the race. looks like on paper. There's speed I'm hoping she can kind of break settle kind of shut off a little bit going into the first turning up the backside and she does that she'll be. She'll be very very competitive today. I think a lot of this feeling. I think she she some you know. Hopefully can you know get some great one placing. Maybe hopefully a great one win and I think you know. I think the plan right now to raise their next year and I really think she's got had a big feature. You know it's interesting you talk about the mile and an eighth cutting back to a mile later on this afternoon and how much you like that move. I've heard other people talk about horses making that can't move to why can that be so successful. I guess it's just a fitness thing I mean I know. We've had the feeling training all year but it's a lot angles and racing that you know you. Can you know I. I sometimes like you know You don't even if a horse runs well on the dirt going to turf. It's almost like you trick them a little bit. You know it's it's and you know I. It just felt like you can have a little more confidence with your shortening horse up as opposed to stretching now now 'cause you know the further you go. I guess the unknown but you know she performed well at a model at Qinglin this spring so we know she can do it. She didn't really shut off and rate that well that day wish you would have you know relax a little more but it was a first start off a long layoff for a long time. I asked her to run a little bit earlier and she was just kind of on the go like I said from off burning fresh off the layoff but she she's moved forward and she responds to what the routers warrant They had three different jobs under this year. You know they've all got along with her. Well so I think for on obviously knows Schroeder twice before been able to get her. They're both times so hopefully like I said if she can get take a trip and relax a little bit early. She'll be tough yeah. You've had her for four starts now. In North America her first one as you alluded to is keen last April after she campaign in in her native Great Britain when you get a horse like that Brad that comes in from overseas.

"Jeff Good Morning Good morning how you doing excellent and lots to digest. We've already talked to the J ribbon earlier this morning morning. I want to get your take on what went on about the racist we discussed last week including the the upset which I think is less shocking talking than people. The people are are feeling. It didn't seem upon further review that Mongolian groom was all that impossible well. He wants to me I mean I thought he'd run well but I I really I'd watch McKinsey working. I thought he was ready to roll. Oh and just looking at the form I thought that he would win and he he moved to the top of the stretch like he was going to pounce and then he kind of flat out and I I always had a little sense of doubt that maybe he wasn't quite amount of quarterhorse but this is only a mile and they and I was disappointed and I think Bob Baffert with two do I really was an he's made in announcement that he's going to replace my Smith with a writer that we don't know who's going to be. I'm sure all the the agents are kind of hanging around trying to throw their hat in the ring but yeah I mean I it was I mean it's it's just it's the nature of the game here. We've you see this happen a lot and perhaps the real the real important racist coming up a month from now but if you've you know food for thought as to whether or not the horse that we also at least I thought was the number one older horse in the country. is really that much better than everybody else and amount of quarter. I think it's anybody's game now fold in as well the the result at the Jockey Club Gold Cup and what did you think of the takedown and who do you favor of the two of them coming out west well. I'll tell you what that I I was kind of hoping that it didn't come down and even I thought the three year old is going to win the race going in and what am I ran well. I thought he I thought he had every chance to get by but it was a tough. It's tough to lose a race lightweight like way when push came to shove and unfortunately for her also did come to push he he hung in there I think both both of those are deserving the universal. I'd come already come out west a winner racer over the summer so we subtract and so they'll meet again it's I I. I was talking about this. The other day was Zoe on our podcast and we we were pretty much not baffled. I don't think that's the way but kind of open to in trying to figure out who might win the plastic doors so many possibilities now so many horses that look like they're capable title stepping up some of them that look good or maybe vulnerable so I duNNo. We'll be watching the next couple of three weeks to see who trains the best. Maybe maybe we can come up with a conclusion but right now now. It's really a mess we'll wait till they get the decisions. The final decisions horses like a late and late would add another wrinkle visit I think they're thinking mile and a quarter and the boys aren't that top much tougher for maybe the midnight DC would be if he ran against her again and and a mile an eighth in the in the the staff so that would that would certainly make an interesting well a couple of other thoughts jeff about last weekend the reasons we discussed filled D'Amato just a of magical a couple of days pee wee reese on Friday mirth and Cleopatra Strike in the Rodeo drive and the John Henry able to Geo Story. I keep coming back to it because what can you say and then Sunday Paradise Woods and I ask you the same question that I brought up up with Jay and I asked Sadler too Sadler Sheriff's the other day if she runs that race of the distaff she's she's a major major player and I know she's a notorious in and outer but I thought that was a terrific effort it was it was accomplished under under pristine conditions sitting right outside a speed horse with nobody all rounder nobody in front of her nobody beside her with kind of like a workout for but she did feel the deal as she finished strongly and she earned a beyer speed figure that was something like eight or nine points better than they were not that that means anything but bottom line is she ran really well now whether or not she can do that again I don't know if he pointed out not exactly your model of consistency and I thought maybe your best days were behind her but boy did she work well and I I I yeah I mean you have to go. You have to think that going into the dispatch. This definitely has a legitimate chance I mean if she decides to show up with a game the thing that we're going to start talking about Jeff when when when I'm at clockers corner and and we're watching horses work and when we analyzed the the XP TV workouts leading up to the race between you and Millie Ah Zoe is going to be fitness levels and the one thing you're not going to have to worry about John. The sheriff's Baffert and Sadler is is fitness of these horses on that racetrack and that's going to be a huge factor and I'm I'M GONNA keep referring to the east coast horses that went to del Elmar for the Pacific Classic and God drowned on that deep surface and Steve Asmussen asked me to his credit with with tenfold he learned his lesson and went out early with Mottola because he is not gonna get caught on that element he wants his horses. This is ready to travel over that surface and it's going to be something we we really focus on and then I'm sure in the recap you know after breeders Peter Scott. It's GONNA come up well down. Mars is eat but it's it's not it's not any deeper than in Santa Anita where this is not the old Santa Anita track backwards you know three quarters in eight and change all all day long I mean you have to be did fit to run on. This track is deep. You just tiring you you have to train over it. I think I think it really helps and yeah I think it's going to be very important to to to watch the works and I I do think it's going to be a great advantage for horses to get in early and get a beast of one or maybe even to work over the drag your possible because it's it's not it's it's tough. It's it's it. It's deeper than New York and Belmont Park is I'm convinced of that and I know Belmont to be called the fanny and all that but this track is is big heavy. I mean it's the faith it's safe and that's why they made it so deep but you've gotta get through it and you gotTa. That'd be fit well. Let's get set to look at the weekend and before we talk about Saturday any any day maker ideas for today well. You know it's yeah I mean I I did do a couple of San Anita and I can give the a little bit of an insight today's tough but I like the Philly name swirling in the fourth race she's not the favorite averaged five to two zero six two five in there she's a late running turf sprinter that that I that likes attending through force and they're starting to run five and a half now in the first we've got a couple now they extended the shootout there so she'd found five furlongs on this course a little stripe and she was hitting the boy and running well but just running out of room now she goes five and a half and I noticed in the few couple of five and a half long since we've had so far that the closers have a better chance and she's she's good enough to win. and I think that extra half for a long we'll give her the edge that she needs so I'm looking at number two swirling in the fourth race to kind of heightened me over for that's my play play today. It's an okay car not a great guard but I think we can we can get some value there because she's not going to be the favorite it's excellent all right swirling today and Let's let's go to the weekend and obviously the steak the steak side of things Let's talk about talk about the city of hope I because it it it really is intriguing and I brought up with Jay earlier. Jeff the mixing and matching of older horses. I mean really veteran in six seven eight year olds like synchrony and Ohio and Bolo and catapult facing off against some horses that may be emerging What's your angle in the studio? It's really hard. I handicap this this race and I came up with about four or five that on their best day could win. synchrony is intriguing to me I think he's intrinsically the best of the group but he doesn't have a lot of tactical speed and going a mile on this course even though he's running the tool aww theoretically he could maybe draft into the mid part of the mid packing and save the nangle out and get through he tends to give himself a lot to do and I remember when he came out here for the CBS del Mar last November. The same thing happened. Do that was sixteen. He fell back. He he had some traffic trouble he got. That's where we finished. Fuller Ronnie finished thirty one but but he didn't get there so I I like him at five to one at synchrony shipper I I hope he gets the trip. If he doesn't then you can make a case for a number of these. I mean looking for fifteen to one shot number four on your program. Aziz restrained vengeance. He's GonNa get loose in the lead and if he does that he can be dangerous. TAT upholds training really well but he's form doesn't look all that well you gotta go back to the Kilroy Mile Back in March the finding good but at least it was over this turf fourth and he could pop up Sadler. He's five to one the raises a bunch of the race basically is is a bunch. That's a five to one shots hoping for good luck but I think maybe if he gets through synchrony can win I wanted to I wanted to like River Boyne off the lay off and then John White made him four to one and that that cooled my ardor well you know I looked at him him and he was a very good three year old and he hasn't won at four and haven't made a lot of progress at least according to his numbers and he goes from practice and I'm looking elsewhere. Let's put it that way you know a to go back to an angle from last week as that in fact Jay also came up with and Dash the other filled D'Amato player and here's able to do who the things that just seem to be running for Jeff at at least from what we saw last week while they they ran for a golden gate when he was leading rider up there and I talked to them for a number of years actually we had horses up there and he he wrote for us always felt that he was good enough but he was kingpin up there era and then he decided to make the leap and I thought it might be tough for them but it really hasn't he's really falling favor with the with the horsemen down here and he's a strong writer but he's a good rider as far as and dishes concern. He's coming off a nice win. Del Mar.. He's obviously never beaten this this group although he did run second Mendelssohn and his racing debut of that matters which it doesn't that was way back in two thousand seventeen at the Curragh but but he's he's he's developing. He's he's coming around and the way the model is going. I mean I wouldn't put anything past him and especially in a race like this in which really there is no standout and anything can happen so hey why not wanting to watch a couple of other thoughts. what do you make of this chance Salat Omaha beach matchup the very very different set of three year olds against elders in the in the sprint championship wells twelve sheds lots four to five in the morning line because he's not only the fastest horse in the race in terms of numbers but he's also look controlling speed and he doesn't even have to go that fast my my concern was and it's kind of happened in the Jerkins a little bit then I know that the inside part of the wasn't particularly hit that day but they kinda slowdown down twenty three flat forty five and and he's fast horse and I think you gotta use his weapon and I think going three quarters. They don't have to worry too much about you. Know saving reading anything so I I would suspect he'll bust out there and go. He had a nice breeze over the track. I think Navarro did the right thing by bringing them out early and breezy had a half and forty. He's seven and one third fastest at sixty five last week and he lied did it. The right way looked like he was relaxed like he got over the track very very well so he's going to be it really hard for Omaha Beach the rundown although I my theory about Omaha beach is that he's always wanted to be a sprinter and because he was so good and all the money's going long long that Richard Mandella kept running them wrong and why wouldn't he won the rebel in the Arkansas Derby any may have even able to win the Kentucky Derby had come down with the trap Levada brought his only sprint race of his career only race of seven that he actually sprinted

"Deer Birdie and and she she hid she has actively there was that period of inactivity because sunny had kind of liquidated thinking that it would be a burden to her to to run the racing side and so you know in obviously it's a different era but you know the way Barbara Banke actually went on with it after Jesse Jackson past and a lot of ways barbara as even widened stone streets activities ask Mary Lou didn't necessarily you know widen things and make it bigger. I mean some of the physical properties that they owned <hes> you know we're we're thinking about gains way and so forth and green tree and the different properties but she went out and actively she took a certain portion of money and she wanted to reacquire Whitney stock and out and got broodmares and a lot of this was on her own the things that she had had really picked up on. I mean she she had to be a very savvy. You know listener in a bit of a sponge soak in the some of the lessons because she really did a brilliant the job that was explained Bradley that was absolutely true. You did that <hes> tremendous because that's what she did. She went out there. She saw that would be blood. <hes> a lot of few you have a so-called consultants at the time may have laughed at her when she went and got that they're Birdie but as they say the rest is history and I remember talking John About it he asked me about. I said you know it's a great. Did I hear because you know that blood. They live forever and successful. I was at the sail over the years now. It's funny because I was thinking member S._S.. Stone I want one that <hes> skip away out tail and I said what is what is this thing doing here and it was blood. You know like all the great <hes> out we have to sell one or two of them and I knew Whitney blood and it turned out to be you know you want to skip away so I mean everything they had ad in that family if you if you go back and you see so many wins come out of their even today so it wasn't great it was a great thing and she was responsible for that. She went out and got that you know that Batman and what could I say I was so happy and so grateful for her and the Fatah history you know you can't <hes> duplicate that I mean there's you and I talked about the other day on your twenty thousand people at Belmont Park I don't happen. Maybe thirty million people watching because Smarty Jones. was you know the coordination was already claims that he was going to win and then to come back <hes> you know two months later a month and almost two months and when the trap is in spectacular fashion in that natural baseball which I compare that to like looking at the natural with the lightning and everything so that was really great for me out obviously truly blessed to be part of that but <hes> what have you know what a great lady and <hes> and and like you said the tributes just keep he pouring in and and would <hes> I think he and said it yesterday the locals is all true. I mean the locals are just. Let's about her nuts about her and you know keep it up. I guess so she's she's just a contributed greatly and a good harassment to St Awesome Awesome. "He said we're making a mistake as an industry if we're going to try to use fatality statistics as a marketing tool it's that's that's not what it is. That's not what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to be you know something that we use as a as a watchword and as a vigilant a vigilance issue that we're constantly watching and constantly trying to improve as an industry and that there's always going to be incidents. There's always just it's part of the mechanics of of of what we're doing but that we're always trying to do as as good as we can. You spare no expense. Yes you complete complete. Focus is on putting on a safe event that task force and the policies procedures everything that came out of that. I took this job. That's one of the best assets I had to work with. I mean we have a very solid playbook. We have a culture here. That's focused James. The culture culture was changed. I mean you know we have Glenn Kozak. I mean that that's the best guy in my opinion knows more. Anyone one is on the forefront of data collection on moisture levels. Everything I mean you could have him on here. He could talk for four hours about this but it's about you know we're racing company and this is that's at the core of what we do and it's always gonna be <music> our primary focus beyond it's funny you say in that term a racing and a bet taking business what's the update on the Sports Betting Situation New Yorker National New York nothing at the moment <hes> they have brick and mortar casinos and <hes>. I guess they'll get back into conversations about mobile mobile's the ultimate question because that's that's how people really that's how the market really grows in a state but Bo we're trying to do is we spoke earlier earlier about the T._v.. Show and position because we're content we're racing company creating racing content and you know on-track live experiences like this so you know we're looking to position our content as best possible due to <hes> get in the store with the most people really when you look at it well put and we like our product and we think it's a really good wagering product. Do you have any sense that there's going to be an opportunity to to be included in the sports betting yeah some situation we will. It's a it's at what level but in terms of product you can't see how we wouldn't be. I mean people like betting on you know that's just going to expand the market for us and bring in some new players like New People and they're gonNA. We're GONNA get some crossover from it because I think you know if you get into betting on sports like how do you not focus on horse racing after you start getting good well and this is this gets into back to the discussion about Belmont about the the arena people that are having trouble. They're saying oh well what what does it do for for the racetrack wants to do with the racetrack. It brings people out to the facility out to Belmont Park for for forty hockey games forty-one a bunch of concerts a bunch of <hes>. I don't know icecapades whatever whatever whatever goes on in an arena <hes> the thing will probably be used what two hundred knights of days a year conventions who knows but people are gonNA come onto the onto the grounds that have never been there before. We're the New York Racing Association Belmont Park is a state asset. This arenas arenas do amazing things one is keeping the islanders in which is huge. It's GonNa Increase Utilization on the property. There's a train station now so I think these are its fundamental improvement for the viability ability of Belmont Park as an asset so we're looking forward to this well anybody and any people any people that.

"We're right out who's going to move like a rocket tomorrow at Belmont Park in Elmont New York with a hundred and fifty first running of the Belmont Stakes. But we've got a couple of things we're going to talk about with our next guest. He is a prominent west coast, trainer in wanted about torch, raising Alice. I know Gary Mandela good enough to jump aboard with us here on CBS sports radio. Well, our you Jodi good preciado you're coming on board before we get into the bell mind and Belmont day because there are other couple big races on that card, first things first update on Omaha beach, who was depre- Kentucky Derby favorite had a breathing issue had a procedure done had to scratch out of the Belmont or the Kentucky Derby. We haven't seen him since it took a little bit longer for him to recover than I thought he kept them or your dad kept him in Kentucky, a little longer than he was originally planning. How is the horse coming along? Things have finally started going his way due in large part to the reason that he was left in Kentucky. The particular surgery that he had was for what's called an entrapped, EPA guate-. So there's everybody's Google homework. So the day by pictures for he had surgery to, to help that which uncovered a big infection in his quote, and the, the best way to heal that is by visiting hyperbaric chamber for oxygen every day and not something that we have on the grounds of Santa Anita. But it is something he had access to by staying Kentucky in the city of Lexington. So he they're under great care. But he's recovered well enough. The last couple of weeks he's actually booked on flight to California on Monday. So we'll begin the process of trying to get him back in a little bit of Chinese, and you know, see if he could make a race like the Allen jerkins at Saratoga. I know personally, maybe a little you could make the Pennsylvania derby that so we'll see how it goes. Okay. So New York. Upstate Saratoga possibility Pennsylvania. Also. And then if everything goes, well could be a contender for the British Cup. You to my second question as well. While I want to talk about east coach racing in the big day they're going to have here in New York tomorrow. I do wanna touch on your stomping grounds, which is out there in Kellyanne Anita. Another couple of horseback. He's over the last week, it has been an ongoing issue at Santa Anita today to close it down. They opened a backup. They thought they had fixed. It's certainly slowed down. But there are still fatalities going on in races and in training in the like how big a mess is it out there right now? Were under a lot of pressure as you say, not so much because of what's happened recently if it was to stand alone. It's, it's cumulative from what happened in December, and we were in a situation where the man who had taken care of the race track at Santa Anita the surface itself for a long time stepped aside before the start of the meat, and as soon as that happens. I know nobody wants to hear me sitting here in Los Angeles complain about how much it rained, but by our standards, it rained, all very large amount that we are prepared for it. And I think that you have to understand, is since we're gonna talk about Belmont Belmont is called big sandy for everyone who's around. There knows it can rain anytime of year. You know, obviously get cold ring and sometimes here, but hot rain and other times of the year and all of that, so that track is very sand based because water runs right through San dries out in a heartbeat. Well, in California, we live in a drought condition for everybody remembers the Jack Nicholson movie Chinatown, we live in a desert, and some guy all those years ago figured out how to move some water around through the desert and get water here, and we grew few trees, but it's a desert climate. So we have to have a racing surface, that number one priority is safety. But number, but keeping it safe in our normal, climate means locking some moisture into it, so we don't just use pure sand. We have to have a different kind of material that holds onto some moisture because otherwise, it dries out too quickly and gets to news. And that's just as dangerous for horses as a wet sloppy track. So when it rains, an inordinate amount over track that set up that way. It it's not as it is mentioned, working with plan A so that combined with the fact that the man who had been charged here stepped away. The guy in charge was his first time, and he gets thrown into the most difficult situation, we've had in California in at least ten years, and it didn't go to plan and a lot of changes have been made to rectify that and make it better. And things are going. Well, we don't have it exactly where we wanted to. We're always trying to have California be the safest racing in the country at all times. And that's everybody's goal. And everybody's really locked into it. No, you read a lot of stuff. Everybody wants to end up in the same place. But some people wanna take different paths to get there. So it's still being worked on but, but that's the goal. And, and I have every safe that by this time next year everyone's gonna look back at what California racing has done Santa Anita. Most elements del mar and say, hey. You know, these guys. Got their act together, and they fix this, and they really accomplish something guys like yourself who are in the business guys like me who follow the game and know what's going on and on top of it on a pretty close to day in day out basis we, we are going to big races between now and, and about Tober, but the casual fan has his third big day of the year tomorrow. And then he goes away until brief Cup rolls around today. Again, Kentucky Derby Preakness Belmont. Breeders Cup that your casual raising fan. So the Breeders Cup is certainly very important. The next the next big issue for the casual fan. It is scheduled to be at Santa Anita this year. There is some fear, and I know we're way and a lot of things could happen between now and end. But if we sit here now will enough of the best towards ship out to Santa Nita and just jaw and run and take their tens of that will European horses has come up for all the grass Ray. Raises in the Breeders Cup and take their chances because certainly you're being raised in European tracks are different and certainly different for me surface. That's got questions out in Santa Nita. They haven't one hundred percent by plans are gopher Santa Anita. But until we start to find out are they going to get the best horses? We don't know if it's going to be ago, how big an issue is the fact that the Breeders Cup is it Santa Nita as the racing industry is still trying to figure it out out there in California. Sanity is already doing everything possible. To make this track as absolutely safe as it can be one thing, that's going to help them specifically with the Breeders Cup question is the fact that we moved down to del mar for two months, basically, from the middle of July until right after Labor Day that gives them a nice seven or even eight week window where that track is closed. No training. And so they don't have to have around and work around our schedule and try and fix the track. They can just fix the track. They can add material to it which you, you know, the casual fan doesn't understand you can't just add a bunch of new material to a racing surface because it changes it. If you don't get the mixture just right. You know, you, you have good intentions of fixing it, but you actually make it more dangerous, especially if it's not distributed evenly all the way. I mean I'm really bad at math. Jodi, what would the square footage be on an oval that's a mile around as white as a race track is the, the answer is a lot. Yeah. They've been the volume of Sandra disturbing. So the try to get that spread out and have an evenly in every part of the race tracks. It's a really hard job, but it can get done a lot easier when there's no racing. So what's going to happen is, they'll send us all Bill, Mark? They'll do nothing but work on this track and the turf course. And when we get back there, right after Labor Day. We will not race there right away. We will be allowed to train their starting right after Labor Day, but the racing happens in Orange County for three weeks before we won their first race. So we'll actually be able to see what it's like training. I find tune it a little bit. And then we do run from month before breeders kept we have all kinds of preparations for all the different divisions. So everything I it would be a more difficult situation. If you either you had to just keep running on it, and fixing it as a work in progress, or if you had this gap at more, and then we came back in the first weekend we came back we had to run Breeders Cup without, you know, having any other training or racing right? Over the way that it lines out, really helps the situation I think it's gonna turn out terrific in the end. I think fritter stuff is going to be the same as Breeders Cup always is trains and owners that are happy with how the horses are doing are gonna come out and they're going to run in trainers and owners that to themselves. Aren't happy with how their horses are doing or coming up to the race are not going to want to just come out and say that and I don't know what it is about horse race. That makes it that way. But they love to use the track as an excuse them. That's what they'll do. They always have. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out because that's going to be big come Tober. But yeah, he gave me some hope there with the fact that you're going to be a del mar for two weeks. And hopefully the individual retired comes out of retirement for a couple of weeks to lend a to get has he, he's the biggest part of the solution to clear that up in his name is Dennis Moore. And he is the track man in this country. He has no Pierce. And he tried to step away. And light is low tease I he might be seventy now and not work as hard as he has its whole life, but we really need and he, he came back and and has been a big part of the solution. Is there any chance we can get you out careerstep truth? I wish I could if I had a gig. I'd be out there in a millisecond, if not, I'm going to be here on CBS sports radio talking to you. Gum, Gary down a horse trainer analyst our guest here on TBS portrayed Belmont, Stakes them up one hundred and fifty first ten horses going, we're not gonna have a triple crown winner. But we could have a horse, take down two thirds Preakness winner were will is back in here. The second choice at least on the morning line Tacitus horse, who ran respectably on Kentucky Derby day and William won it with his other horse on derby day. But that's it is seems to fit the profile of a Belmont Stakes winner. They are going to be the top two choices. I believe the, the morning line..

"Nine buyer any one Twenty-one time for US rating. There are some important handicapping pieces that need to be throw. Known into your sort of brain when thinking about this race and looking at horses exiting it first things. First time for US had the quarter and half mile splits, both color-coded blue meaning in theory, it's favoring horses on or near the early lead in compromising those coming from off of it that would play into the hooves of pattern recognition and play against both sunny ridge and time line taking it a step farther time, former you time form US excuse me, had the main track. Belmont Park color-coded red, bright, red meaning. It was intensely speed favoring that day at Belmont, I believe every single main drag. Race was one engage wire fashion on Saturday afternoon, pattern recognition, right to the front and didn't stop when you see the fractions were soft. Combining that with the way that racetrack was playing other horses, essentially little to no chance most notably sunny ridge line. Now when you go and watch the replaying that stretch run again, sunny ridge loomed up like he was going to go right on by pattern, recognize. Ish in had plenty left in the tank. This to me was not an issue of sunny ridge hanging. This was just pattern recognition having a little bit more left. I think both he anti-men timeline was in a little bit tight down the inside, but more so sunny ridge. This was a sneaky, big effort for sunny ridge. If you believe the fractions and you believe the way that the racetrack may have been playing, I think he's one that you absolutely have to throw in your DR horse watch. I did the same with timelines simply because of the dynamics of this race pattern recognition, though, visually, he looked very good out there. And if you think this is an instance where this is a horse that it's just taking him a little while. Chad Brown made mention, he's at a number of injuries during his career of you think he's finally putting it all together. All of a sudden he becomes an interesting alternative. If you're looking at a race like the Breeders Cup, dirt mile, you know, Catalina Cruz. You're gonna take his money. Maybe if a Horsely promises fulfilled goes there or Renzo fire the three year olds taking on elders, they'll take some money pattern recognition. He's an interesting sort of candidate for a spot like that, but I think you have to keep in mind that it seems like on this day he had everything go. Way, sunny ridge. I don't think he's Breeders Cup type horse, but he is a cool horse. Have always been a fan of his. There are spots for him timeline. He has been sort of his potential early on. It looked like he could be anything in time has gone on. It just doesn't seem like he's gotten any better. We'll find out maybe this is an instance where you starting to put it all together. He certainly not a Breeders Cup type, but there could be racist for him down the road. No, dozing. I think he's exposed at this level. I don't think this is what he is. I tried to give him a chance in the forego didn't work in this spot here. Perhaps he had a little bit of the track o- against him, but keep my. He was the one that was up just next to pattern recognition. So in theory, he should've had most of these things going his favor. He ended up fading badly. I don't think he's quite this good. We have to discuss battle of midway and I'm going to do this as delicately as possible. And I say delicately I, it's just I'm not trying to insult anyone. But when I look at battle of midway. The story behind him. If for some reason you are unsure. You don't know the situation. He was retired following his victory in last year's Breeders Cup. He won the dirt mile. He went off to stand and he was, he's not infertile, but he is sub fertile or something along those lines. I don't know what the actual term is, but he's not firing on all cylinders..

"I mean, I suppose you can look at an alternative with with Catholic boy, but you know, he's at the moment significantly slower than those top two. I'm not. We have a long way to go between now and the Breeders Cup Classic. But I'm just saying if the fringe contenders in those races in the awesome again and in the jockey club Gold Cup, they don't perform well reasonably well. This coming weekend. All the sudden classic is. Getting pretty narrow as far as the top concerned about horses the yet to look at it and say, boy, they just might just be that much better than everyone else. As far as the rest of the field is concerned core beliefs. If you are in the camp, believes the inside was not where you wanted to be at parks on Saturday. You wanna throw him in your horse watches. Well, because he was buried on the inside. He stayed on gamely at the end king Zachary sort of adult non effort from him proviso, disappointing effort. He was a little bit. I don't want a little, but he was much more forward than he is accustomed to being, but he started doing what he was doing in the Travers, going into the far term where Lewis I was all over them in the traverse. He started backing up, but then he rallied again on at the end. Unfortunately, we didn't get that rally at the end disappointing from him disappointing for Mr. freezes. Well, you gotta give Mr. for a little bit of. I don't want you can't give them a full mulligan, but he was spun about ten wide going into the first turn that's not ideal and instill regardless got awfully just never involved. And you just hope that everything is okay. This I start on the east coast Chad Brown long story short. MacKenzie. He's back better than ever one. Oh, seven buyer one twenty nine time former Wes rating. We'll find out if he goes to the classic. Some people will be interested in who knows? Maybe I'll revisit my you know this piece here in the recap and think about it a little bit more and it'll be a little bit more inclined to think that an additional eight of a mile won't be a problem. I still question how far he wants to go. And if you're looking for a horse that maybe not this year for the classic, but maybe as a four year old and give them some more time, maybe a horse like Axelrod. The runner up in this race, maybe he continues to improve from Michael McCarthy. This was a good effort from him to run. Second as well. McKinsey gets the job done in the grade one, Pennsylvania derby. It's going to Belmont Park for the great to Kelso. This is a one turn mile in. Historically, this has been been sort of defacto prep four race like the Breeders Cup mile. Now in certain years, it's more important and more pressing than others because we've had instances whether it's at Santa Anita or it's at Keeneland Oreta del mar that the Breeders Cup dirt mile is run. Going turns. This. Year though when the Breeders Cup is at an event or venue, rather like Churchill Downs where it's a one turn mile race at Kelso becomes that much more important perhaps could potentially have certain horses point to this race as their stepping stone. This year, the notable entrant was battle of midway for Jerry Holland door for coming to the east coast. They wanted that one turn race to get him ready for a prep and get ready for the Breeders Cup mile. Unfortunately, for them that few things go against them on this day on Saturday afternoon, here's the stretch run of this year's Kelso. Sunny ridge is gonna come. Why? Time-line cuts the corner there into the stretch, and it is pattern recognition, still there, battle of midway in a bit of traffic. They're not gonna get there today, but sunny ridge is in with a shot now and here comes sunny ridge on the outside trying to run down pattern recognition, these two done to the line, time-line. Third pattern, recognitions going to hold them all off and win Kelso pattern. Recognition gets the job done for. Chad Brown at odds of five to one followed up by sunny rigid, odds of five to one who runs second. Then odds of six to one. Now the Chad horse time line. He runs out your trifecta. Very juicy fact. If you played fifty cents comes back eighty two dollars. The favorite even money. Battle of midway is out of the money runs. Fifth, stick. Look at pattern recognition. He is four of ten lifetime nine times in the exact just under three hundred eighty thousand dollars in career..

"The way the belmont park experience happens what are your thoughts on how this is all going to work out i think it's really going to work out well i it's going to enhance the racing experience we're the actual logistics of where we're they build everything else is yet to really be determined and how far out will everything extend if you look at plans that was shown at a public area kinda showed that the crowns are going to go out toward the paddock area of belmont but a large part of it basically now is in an area where there is a parking lot uh that never really gets used except on uh belmont stakes day a film on park so i think they'll be able to comfortably fit the arena some shops hotels i don't think it's going to be a massive shopping area but i think enough to keep people occupied it before the hockey games during races after the races and uh let's throw another thing into this in a couple of years who knows maybe there's gonna be sports betting allow depending on what the supreme court decides of with the new jersey case so you might be able to have a hockey game at the arena couple of furlongs away inside of parlor at belmont park you could sit back watch it on the big screen uh and that on eighteen but i'm a in engaging props and all the other stuff to make it a fun experience but i think it's gonna work out well for everybody involved well as an islet are saying i'm hoping that there's a huge logistical problem in june when the islanders are playing the stanley cup final on the day of the belmont stakes we can only hope that comes to pass thought the all thank you so much we look forward to a warm kentucky derby season on a cold winters night here in the east you got that right.
