This is Bloomberg. Nathan, Michael, thank you. It is almost five twenty on Wall Street live from the Bloomberg interactive brokers studios. This is Bloomberg daybreak dentist Guardmen joins us this morning publisher of the garment letter nice to talk with you this morning on morning where we have it seems no shortage of potential catalyst for markets from the Trump Kim summit to these new seemingly fast rising tensions between Indian. Pakistan, and of course, fed chair Powell's testimony. What has your eye this morning? One of the things that has my people when I make speeches or even on TV. I'm often asked what keeps me up at night and has kept me up at night for years has been what happens between Pakistan, and India and Kashmir usually those are just a small little skirmishes. But now all of a sudden we had the Pakistani Islamist JD shell. Ahmad Mohammad two weeks ago killing forty Indian regulars than the Indians had to respond by sending a surgical strike into Pakistan yesterday, and now Pakistan has responded by downing to Indian aircraft. Things are getting out of control. And it bothers me because in the past they've used the relatively inconsequential weapons, but these are two nuclear powered entities. And I'm always concerned about that that circumstance so that has my my attention this morning, and I think it should have most everybody else's as they awaken and find out what's taking place over there. Certainly when you talk about potential existential threats at a geopolitical standpoint, but in in terms of the markets. What impact could this have? Well, it's clearly it's not supportive. Clearly, it's detrimental clearly raises concerns, and and concern always is detrimental to stock prices. Then you have the the comments from Mr. Colin what you're going to get wider publicity today, which should. Clearly, the president is is already casting aspersions against Mr. Cohen. But those are not going to be supportive, and I think the comments yesterday from Mr Powell were less than than beneficial to stock prices. So finally, you had a lot of technical circumstances where the where the stock market here in the United States has gotten egregiously overbought. I I like to look at the CNN fear and greed index which has proven itself to be one of the better indices over the course of the past several years has gotten to what is it refers to us terribly, greedy territory. So I only for my own account. I don't manage anybody else's money. And I'm actually a bit shorter stock says of the last two days. Yeah. It sounds like we're sort of painting the picture of an environment of increased uncertainty here in the first quarter. I mean, where do you see things going from here? Well, the economy is still quite strong. Let's not kid ourselves. And you had the supply reserves as far as the adjusted. Monetary base here in the United States still is is in excess of four point three trillion dollars. So clearly there's a lot of money in the system and the economy has been doing quite well, and it's probably going to continue to do. Well, but economies and stock prices can diverge as we saw at the bottom in two thousand nine as the economy was still going into the Dinger on stock prices were coming up very sharply from the lows, you can get divergences. And I'm afraid we're about to see that sort of divergence were stock prices underperform, even as the economy continues to do reasonably well. Thank you very much as we head toward these possible divergences is there anything more that central banks can do to to to give more certainty to the market. Well, I think that Mr Powell has done a yeoman's work time to explain the problems the fed has as it runs down. It's it's adjusted monetary base from four point five trillion to something let's say closer to three point zero trillion over the course of the next several years that the fed will be less. Comma date than it has been in the past. I don't I I would I would hesitate to call it tightening. Let's just simply say they they will be somewhat less accommodative on the other hand the monetary. Authorities in in Europe and Japan have no choice, but to be continuously more accommodative. I think in the long run that's beneficial to the dollar that's detrimental to the euro and the yen. But I think on balance we're the they'll be less money in the global reserve tank to keep stock prices moving higher. So I think that's the problem that they left. The equities markets have to face only about fifteen seconds or so left. What's your outlook on recession are we closer to it given all this uncertainty? Well, by definition, here we are awarded nine nine years almost a decade into the longest economic advance that we've ever had. So by definition, we're closer to recession until we see three consecutive months of decline in in in the the Conference Board leading economic indicators until we see a pick-up inventories, which we are beginning to.
