"The Comer Weather Center. I'm meteorologist Shannon O'Donnell. Stay connected. Stay informed. The Northwest's on ly 24 hour news station at Combe Aux News. 1000 FM 97 7 Good afternoon. It is 5 45 I should say Good evening. We've got a very active Protest slash riot going on in Capitol Hill in Seattle right now, and that is where we find calm was Jeff Pooja, who joins us live with a live update. Well, Kelly, and it seems to at least in the last 10 minutes or so have calmed down a east relative to what it was. Earlier, we had a number of SWAT officers from Seattle police. We also saw SWAT teams from Bellevue Police Department here giving mutual aid trying to get control of the situation, But they had twice they had moved forward towards the crowd, and then twice they had moved back, appearing to retreat from the crowd. A number of blast balls have been deployed. We've seen pepper spray deployed as well. I saw one person being treated by bystanders for what appeared to be burning in his eyes. And we're also getting word from Seattle police that one officer or at least I should say three officers injured to have been returned to duty, treated and return to duty. One has a more serious leg injury. This from what police say was an explosive device. We don't know if that was a blast ball or something that the crowd had thrown or brought. But I can tell you that there have been a number of people in the crowd throwing stuff at the line of officers throwing various things. Water bottles like on Obviously, officers responded by deploying a number of glass balls and cells and pepper sprays well towards the people of the front of the line. But this all started as a peaceful black lives matter protest in March earlier today, but it quickly escalated. We started getting reports of damage being done to various buildings on DH. Then we heard Seattle police had deployed or declared. Rather it be a riot on at that point right around the East Precinct, which obviously has been a flash point for a lot of these protests. Eyes where the SWAT team started moving in. But as I've said, they've been moving back and forth back and forth, the crowd still remains, and there are some in the crowd that appear to be taunting some of the officers trying to provoke them into acting. So far, it doesn't appear that don't even have any of the officers have taken the bait. I don't hear any blast balls in the background, so things have quieted down in that area. Yeah, Like I said, things asleep in the last five or 10 minutes have have quieted down a little bit. The officers the line of officers and SWAT team moved back back up towards the precinct, backing up backing east on Pine Street. And obviously the crowd followed. And now it appears that the stand off the line is right here in front of Seattle Central College, where this whole thing started earlier today, the line of officers In light of protesters, But, yeah, it doesn't appear that anything's being deployed at the moment. Do you have a sense of how much damage has been done to local businesses? I know TV has shown a lot of Facilities were broken windows and things where people had gone in. Do you have a sense of that yet? I've seen a little bit of that. But again, I was not necessarily mixed in with the crowd. When I was reporting on the march earlier, I was kind of a head of the crowd, trying to keep an eye on where they were going trying to figure out where they were going to go next. But yes, I've seen some of that on. That appeared to be what caused Seattle police to declare this to be a riot. We also had at the Juvenile Justice Centre, which is just a few blocks south of here. That was one of the places that when the protesters were marching, that was one of the places that they stopped on. We heard reports that someone Had thrown some sort of incendiary device in through a window in a construction trailer that construction trailer caught fire and Seattle fire hand to respond.
