"So proud that their German shepherds. That's why I say that I think they're cool. So it's Ash and Sherman, but we've talked on the show before. I'm kind of more of a kitty cat person just because it's simple and my kids that is blind and deaf. Deaf. She's blind but easy back off. That's my cat you're talking about were defensive about our pits. That's okay. I'm just, you know, raising. Yeah. All joking aside, your dogs are really good boys. They're so affectionate yet. They're guarding the house. Don't try to get in there doing what they're supposed to do. Yeah, but you like having the dogs around the house. Do? Yeah, I love animals. Katie is allergic to cats were not having any cats and I've seen some really cool cats over the years. But dogs are easy, and these guys are great little fun Fact. According to bark Box, the five most popular dogs in America right now are Bella Luna, Charlie, Lucy and Cooper. The one thing I find interesting about that is more people are giving their pets human names, which I think is a lot of fun. I could do Charlie or Cooper. Well, let's turn from the lifestyle page to the financial page because we're all on the same page as conservative talk radio listeners that we've got to be careful. We got to watch out for the gotchas out there and one of the largest U. S hotel owners. Is taking a cue from the airline industry and experimenting with a new strategy charging guest for most services and amenities. Yep. More fees. The CEO of a company called EMC are tells Fox business that at roughly a dozen of his companies, hotels Guest can get an early check in, but it's going to cost about 20 bucks. And there's a similar fee for a late checkout using the pool might not be a charge on a week day in the morning. But it could cost you $25 on a hot weekend. Get it, And I'm also frustrated by it because I know that travel and tourism has been hit so hard well, and what strikes me about those fees as those are kind of surprise fees, right? So when you go online to book your hotel, you see the rate and you book it based on. Well, that seems reasonable, You know, Nice hotel. I'll pay that right. But then, after you get there, they're like, Oh, yeah, gee whiz, if you want to use the pool, another $25 I think that's what people don't like about it. If you're really upfront about whatever fees or if you're really upfront about what's going to cost you It's not a big deal because you don't feel like you got taken advantage of. But when you're dealing with something that has fees that you didn't know about or refuse that somebody didn't disclose to you, then it's pretty. You get angry, right? You get you get angry, and this happens when it comes to investment accounts a lot of times because whether it's an advertisement for an investment or whether there is an adviser sort of promoting an investment. It's their nature, sometimes to sort of highlight the positives. And be like, Oh, well, you know, look at what this return was over the past 10 years and, hey, you should go ahead, invest in this and well, okay. First of all, that's not telling the whole story second. Well, what's the downside to it? Well, the downside to a lot of investments out there even though they aren't necessarily disclosed in a way that's Really easy for an investor to understand is a big part of the problem. So I mean, one thing that pops out for me would be fund fees. So if you go and invest in a fund, which a lot of people are Whether it's through a four Oh one K account, or whether it's through an adviser or whether you're doing it on your own. But imagine a fund company, whether that's fidelity or Vanguard or T. Rowe or just pick a company. They don't do it for free right, so and that's fine. And nor should they. I mean, let's nor should they. That's not why would they be in business? I mean, these aren't charitable organizations. These are businesses and they're doing investments to help it grow money for clients, but If somebody doesn't tell you what the actual fund cost is. That's an issue not because there's a fun cost, but because well, if there were two investments out there, and both of them had basically the same average rate of return, But one of them's fund cost was half the cost of the other one. Which one would you pick? You pick the one that don't even have to ask going to ask. So the details are important. The other thing that you need to know is if you've hired a financial advisor. What fee? Are they charging to be your financial advisor, Because if somebody is not disclosing that feeling, and by the way, advisors are required to disclose the fee, um, but it doesn't necessarily always come out in conversation. But let's just say that they did. And they said, Well, our fees 1% to work with us. Okay. Great 1%. Well, then, So what's the average rate of return net of the fee on paying you on your recommendation over the past, Not 10. Years isn't a good number anymore because it's pretty much been good years, but full market cycle. I'd want to know that Good years. Bad years. What's your average net of your fee? And is that better than something? I could just go? Go do on my own, because if it's not why would you hire an advisor? If net of their fees The arbitrator return is less than if you just went and did something by yourself so You know it's the advisor fee, but then there's a fun fee. And then also I see this and this is a bolt on. That is kind of interesting sort of ties back to this. This idea of hotels going ology was if you want to use the swimming pool. It's gonna be $25 kind of thing. I hear this and it makes my hair stand up the back and I want to hear it, but We'll talk to individually We'll have an advisor but the advisor I go into their office every year, and they charged me a planning fee I'm like, So you're going to pay a planning fee on top of the fee that you're already the other feet that you're being like they should be doing these plans. I mean, if you're their client that plan, I mean, that's their job is to the planning for you. Not do a plan and then bolt on another feed for the plan. Is that why you always mentioned that the complete financial plan is a $1500 value? Because you don't charge that, but other people do. Yeah, so there's Different ways that advisors can make money. Um, one is just to charge planning fees. And so the average fee for a plan is about $1500. And basically, you say, Hey, put the other financial plan for me. The adviser puts together a financial plan. You write him a check for $1500 You.

"And talk about it. Thank you so much. I appreciate you. We're officially at step two of face to when it comes to the states re opening and for restaurants. That means indoor dining is now a possibility. However, the damage has been done across the board. The restaurant industry in Massachusetts is struggling, and we're seeing a list of closures starting to pile up. There is one man that we call when we want to talk about restaurants here on this show. That's Mark Hurwitz from hit in Boston Boston restaurant talk and dig Boston. Some marks with us on the show. Mark. Thanks for coming on what a time this industry is dealing with right now. It is and it just keeps it keeps accelerating. Although I think now we're kind of kind of in a new normal for restaurants. The Phase two is basically the new normal restaurant, so I think other than closings There might not be a whole lot of news coming up over the coming weeks. But that could change if you just don't know right now. Well, let's talk about the closings and why so many of them are happening all at once. You know, I was talking to a friend of mine, and she said, You would think that with the restaurants being able to reopen everything would be fine. But that's just not the case. No. And I think some of them wind see work would happen with phase one and two and others knew their closing. But they didn't say anything until we got to this point of the reopening. So yeah. During March April into May, there weren't too many notifications of closings. And now that we're in the things to what you know the outdoor dining and then now the indoor dining Now we're starting. The floodgates are opening, and it's a lot of big names. They're out there that are closing. It's really scary. Well, it is, And this isn't just in downtown Boston. We're talking all over Greater Boston and even some rural areas, too. Yeah. I mean some of the names, for instance. Bar BA loot in the Back bay, a French restaurant. They announced the closing and then you have up in Newburyport. That's pretty far up there. I'm Andi Amo restaurant bar. Pretty big restaurant closing up there and course. Bella Luna in Jamaica Plain. That was that one hit me really hard. Oh, my gosh. That place was so bad. Yeah, and it was. It was not just a restaurant. It was really A place where artists could go on musicians and, ah, any comedy nights and dancing And so it was kind of Ah, second home for a lot of people, and that's that's one thing about so many of these restaurants. They were They were second homes, and now they're basically just places with four walls and a ceiling in a AH, floor. I mean, there's nothing left. So just memories. Really. When you think about the people who work in these restaurants, the restaurant industry you and I have talked about this before. It's such a tight knit industry. People date all the time within the industry, you know, get married in the industry become lifelong friends. I can't even imagine the past few months. People being torn apart as it is and being out of work, But then realizing Oh, my gosh, I'm not going to get to go back there. It's not just the economy that they're thinking about. This is you know their support system in some cases. Right? I mean, we went from having two money job openings, not enough workers to too many workers. Not enough job openings because so many restaurants are closing, and it rips reps. Everything apart, You know, families and then People who have been working together for a long time. And, Yeah, it is a close knit community where I know that people restaurant owners, they're talking to each other right now trying to figure out What to do, and it's kind of comforting in a weird way that they're able to do that. I think other cities wouldn't be like that. But, um But it's just It's really difficulty and it's heartbreaking. Every time I hear another restaurant closing it, just it causes sleepless nights. Now you're pretty close to a lot of restaurant owners. And you're you know, one of the guys I know that's like right there in the middle of this business. We've been hearing a lot about assistance for restaurants from, you know, City of Boston, Other cities and towns. So give us an idea What these owners are saying. Is this enough assistance is there, you know what do they need to keep going at this point? Well, they need money. They made a lot of money and you can't expect them to keep getting money because When you think about it's our money, and we're going to be paying for this for years. And of course, we want to get the money, but at some point it won't be happening any more. So, And I think restaurant owners are realizing that the spigots they're gonna I'm going to slow down and stop at some point. So really, the big solutions right now are, you know, maybe well expand outdoor dining, which is happening. Um and you know, open up indoor dining, although even though that happened this week, I'm not scare people already friend or dining. I know some people are doing it. But I I feel like the new normals outdoor dining so as far as helping restaurants, anything you can do Toto, allow them to expand their outdoor areas or create new outdoor areas if they don't have them. But how do you do that In the middle of like December when we're in the middle of a snowstorm. You can't do that. It's not reasonable, I guess or feasible to accept her to expect every restaurant to be dining.
