"I was lucky enough to have a lesson there in the Nineteen Ninety S. Once the bally's unlocked, it may be leave it to the balance with one hand on the lip of the bell and the other braced on the frame. The Bells are then pushed over the balancing turn to ring rounds. As the bell swings into its pit on the head stock rises the ring at uses the hand that was on the frame to push the head stuck down to maintain momentum. A I is quite unnerving to realize that as you're pushing down on the head stock to bring the full circle, the self is rising high above you. It's also vital to grasp the moving head stock well away from the edge, or there's a risk to your thumb as the head start passes the frame where there's only a very small gap. Each ringer then turns to repeat the action with the other arm had stock as the bell swings the other way. Possibly, the hardest thing is to move your body to the same rhythm as the bell so that Hans an arms are not in the wrong place at the wrong time. To set the bill, the ring applies a bit of extra forced to the headstone and virtually catches the bell as it swings to the balance before resting in its set position. Because of the way, the bells rung and the fact that the rings where defenders because of the noise method ringing really isn't practical. It is possible to wrinkle changes or to hunt the trouble through the other full bells twice to add a bit of variation and returned to rounds. All of this of course is highly skilled and potentially dangerous, and there have inevitably been the odd or to in the past. But with proper tuition can skill the East Burger. Bells continue to ring out regularly. Thanks to a dedicated band of local ringers. Plenty of clips on Youtube of the bells being rung. If you want to see how it's done, we will include a link to one of these youtube videos as well as to photos relating to some of the other.

"Where the where the where it was coming from everybody's like, China's stop the service and everything. Oh, you're kidding me. So I don't know some of those were fun. We, we actually had, we had these benches that couples would sit on, and they would do their, you know, as my mom used to call it neck and, you know, they would they would be kissing and stuff and everything. And they would they had these benches all over campus. There's probably about twenty of them. And so one time when night we actually went out and we picked up all of the benches. And we, we took too big ropes and there were two big oak trees on what they called Reasoner green right in the middle of the campus. And we tied all of the benches up between those two oak trees. So in the morning, everybody comes out. There's no benches anywhere on campus. In these, there's like these two string of like twenty benches hanging from a tree, and then about a week after that they were all concrete it down and bolted so gone. That's excellent good. When we did that. So you're the reason I can't steal from hotels. Exactly. Thank you know, there was an eighth grade when I was in sixth grade in eighth grade and another school I went to they tried to play a trick on the. The math teacher think her name was MRs Franklin. They tied a rope around the tree park in front of the convent. And then then her axel thinking, it would just stop the car. They just stopped the car. When MRs Franken took off it ripped out the back axle, or this is like nineteen seventy six or seventy seven rip back axle off that is awesome. And I don't think they knew like that was so serious that no-one ratted on, whoever it was because everybody got. Yeah, that's pretty hilarious. Somebody another great prank at our college with somebody this was back years ago when my dad was there in the sixties, and I heard a rumor he was baby involved in it. But I don't know if he was, or not, he won't tell us to this day, but they somehow walked a cow from the Ag department at the school up the up to the top of the bell tower and the problem was cows. Can't walk backwards down steps. So. So the logistical issue that ensued of trying to get the Cal out of the bell tower. On that still apparently reverberates around the school to say at some point, you just gotta go. All right. This is going to be girls. Yeah. We're gonna kick in chickens, right? That's exactly right. Push it down the stairs. I'm kidding. I'm jay. Nobody wants. Humane shoot a piece of lead right through its skull. All right. So senior prank and model lab school in Richmond. Kentucky had a student get access to the front door jams remove them and parked, the VW meet veto beetle in front lobby of the school overnight. Everyone was like, what the hell the next morning, they came into the school and for the last day. So they had pokes parked a Volkswagen. Beetle in, in the lobby of the school pretty good. You could pull that all that's good stuff. Here's one for a senior prank went to the bait stores in the area, thousands and thousands of crickets released them at all. Chain? That's good. Come on. You. You saw the Fraser episode where hunting, the cricket with his dad, right. Ended up some great bonding. Yeah. There was a big bang theory to where they were hunting the cricket, and they couldn't find it. That's awesome. All right, we'll continue. I got a Texan Kobe. He's apparently unfortunately stuck at the music store, so we're going to continue. You've got a list of old styles for summer summer, fashions that you wanna see come back. Yes. So we'll talk about that, and a weird Russian incentive for women.

"Like there's a silver lining in all this, and you tell me if you feel otherwise, I didn't like this fight for you, because I feel like it would been very hard for you to top the way you beat Robbie Lawler, at UFC, two, one that was as patacula finish. And even if you win via third round KO as it was the first round KO, if you wouldn't be a decision they say, oh, it wasn't as good as the first time. And also, it felt like maybe you needed some time off after what happening. It's Comorros minute. So maybe this could be a blessing in disguise, my crazy here. I think everything from time. I've been in situations where I wanna go go go go go and God has a funny way of sitting down leaving to myself out of been in Arkansas. Right. Times had injuries. Surgery, I was forced to sit down force takes traveler. And having a low clock by Cal without scheduled to fight of skating agent at a blood clot by cat. I think sometimes guy has way of getting you to listen and maybe take time to evaluate yourself is I would just training your circle your pro-choice fourth and those little moment really made. Exponential growth as a person as a man of the father, Nassir finer. So, of course, I wanna be in the you know, only as good as informers is my job. It goes out there and the gate my last performance phenomenal. So I don't understand why certain things happen. But I'm starting to learn a little bit older. Too quick question. I agree with you this. Right. Wasn't as much for me as it was arriving. I don't need to prove anything, this guy that I took his for my ticket. Took his ability to have a large backyard fight. He wants his fight back. Immediately just leave making a show stay into to everybody else that, okay, this guy's woman by ocal fight. That's what the fans want to see the fans wanna see somebody to fight anywhere, anytime you love the same thing. So this was my gesture though on paper. It doesn't make doesn't make a lot of Robbie this offends you guys. Let me go out there and doing it. Let me do it better in my motivation, was through about allow them to have a chance to get back not allow avid chess retaliates. And also disqualified is for more win. "To begin with. I'm sure they're just like shut up, by the way, it was a tragedy. So these billionaires who were like, oh, we all the sudden have hundreds of millions of dollars to give to our country. Eat a million rat turds to live there. I don't know if I'd love to live. As bell and the bell tower. Yes, bell. Ring my play ding Dong, ding way. And that's the that's the if you haven't heard ring my bell. The Notre Don version that that is it that's the remix. I also want to say I saw that movie. Highlife? Have you heard about no Roddick space thriller? I I'm shocked by all those words, and the fact that you went directed by female, French director Clarita ni o it was I thought it was going to be amazing because I love the idea of Roddick's base. And she's very strange French film that whole thing they're always smoking alleged has got to be seventy years old now, but she Julia Pinocchio lead who I who looks fucking unbelievable and Robert in. Selene on the lens. Right. There's one the bund part. I liked about this was that. So it's about a group of convex on a spaceship, and like their mission is to go through a black hole. And eventually they're going to die. And they know that. So they're going to fuck till they die will know. They can't fuck each other. So they have a fuck box, which essentially is they go in this room and for Julia Pinault sh-, it's a room where that's like a mechanical bowl, and it has all these different size dildos on it. And she just sits on it. And I mean this scene is ten minutes long. Why that sometimes it takes women tissue looks incredible. And I have to say everyone was like, oh, my God that seems so discussing this is Bob LA if you want to see it is it is such a clear example of how a scene like that is directed by a woman versus I was seeing like that would have been directed by man because it's beautiful and it's like artful, and it's wile or the people who are disgusted by going. Like, I can't believe it. Woman would mechanical they were like, oh, it was just gross and too sexy, and blah, blah, blah. And it wouldn't be saying. Jerking off in a boat. And what you're seeing throughout most of this is her back, and it's just this crazy muscular back while she's like ride or not it's not at all how the Duda shot at the movies horror because you're not seeing her face and like her nip, exactly. I don't know. I guess that movie is bad. It's critical raves. I just couldn't connect with that the refused. I liked but mostly I just didn't care. I think careless like Robert Pattinson for me. I don't really care that much. He's he gives me nothing. Can I give something to work with Patterson? I'm doing my recommendation early gay thrones with Brian. Aaron keeps on people who are congratulating us, which this is this is the misconception. That happens all the time that people could graduate me forgave threats. Thank you for congratulating me on my performance in it. The show is Aaron Gibson. She writes and directs every stitch of it. And then, of course, Jonathan is also adds all of that stuff to it. But it is your show, and it is killer. So thank you to everyone. Congratulating me osteo. Thank you. I didn't know that was happening. But I will take the names, and I will absolutely call the thorns by thirties. I mean, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Yeah. Mother nature here. Nothing cleans like the spring sense from growth grow. I like growth because they deliver natural brands that are healthy for you. It may mother. Like MRs Myers and my favorite seventh generation, high air Gibson, eighth generation Irish street rat, even though I am way past seven generations of Irish -tory reds. I love seven generation smelling, smells, like actually it was like nothing, and that's what I want. I want my house to smell like nothing when you smell something. You know, what I cannot tell you what I hate. And I can't believe this is the the I can't think of a better example of the doubtful of society scented garbage bags terrible. Nobody likes them. And you know, where you've all find them on the growth. Place if I order twenty dollars of new customers, get free cleaning. Oh my God. It includes missing Mayer spring hands. So delicious. Lavender. "And it was great. I think he doesn't like that this next cut. He describes the motivation to fight Ben Ashburn, maybe waking up a little bit earlier than usual. I if you look at them from skillset Benzon even worth waking up. Before like ten AM in the morning, but only like the student before my alarm goes off. I'm already awake. I wanna break fucking face man on a break fucking ribcage. And I don't wanna knock them out early on. I don't I just wanna torture that guy man, if I get the chance to torture him, fourteen minutes and fifty seconds before I stop them. That's what I'm gonna do. All right. So right away. I'll tell you this much the takedown defense has to be on point. Right. Because Ben asking strength is taking you down and beating you up. Maybe your rib-cage gets broken all your face and not too many people have had success in getting up once they get taken now. But if he can stop it, and they have to stand. It will not be a good night for Manassero or if he can if he can I wouldn't say necessarily take him down, but knock them down and then get on top and ground and pound same thing. Ben asking office back is not as formidable as been asking on top. Again. Let's not forget this dudes undefeated too. So be at bell tower one championship any hard core fan knows that he is a legit welterweight. And now he's got that win over Robbie Lawler. Not that Georgia's calling it a win George miles at all or anything like that. But still he went out there, and he got his Henry's, but the Ben grin. In that showed up in the last couple fights at one championship can't show up because that's the type of that or him is what I'll win they'll have to keep these guys apart. Let's listen to cut number three. I think on fight week. Mas Woodall will serve up three piece in a soda if you know, they don't keep them apart. He just does not like him. Not too many that generally dislike he's one of. If I was a seeing right now. Probably wouldn't be too funny over meaning. Now. I a lot of it didn't help that in London. I guess. I think what's happening is a lot of fighters that do build up fights like aspirin or others. Sometimes we'll run into you at some point. And then try and be friendly. And kinda give you the look or say at themselves. Hey, man, we're gonna have ourselves a good fight. Let's build this or whatever and George is not up for that. If you've already started by talking smack, then guess what be ready to throw down in the elevator in the streets. The renew in the back on the concourse forever. If you come at him in any type of a hostile way. Now, these that's the impression that he's been giving since this resurrection in air quotes. That's what Muslims kind of in calling. I agree with his comeback ever since. He took fourteen months off sixteen months off went on the reality show in Espanyol came back. And and I think he's just trying to make a little bit of loss time. But, you know, backed it up with a nice K over during till all right now a lot of what's irking him to is been aspirin revealing a little bit of the stuff behind the scenes, I guess they train once at American top cut number for like, I'm this dude that if we if we train you go to American top team Joe say, I get lucky nightcap you out twice. I'm not gonna ever tell nobody. Because I that's not my glory moment. This fucking training. I don't give book about that. I really forgot about that. But there's some people the violate that man. "Me on a devante throw is off today, and Richard Roeper is sitting in as we continue to track the tragedy, the devastation and Notre Dame Notre Dame the drill in Paris. The massive fire today the official spokesperson from there says everything is burning the entire roof is collapsed spire has collapsed. And as you just watched it and ensuring them in the middle of the day when it finally became clear that this was a tragedy because it started out this morning was smallest smoke reported at the Notre Dame cathedral. And I was listening to about ten thirty this morning. And it seemed like things were going to be under control, and it quickly escalated as we've seen to the point where the spire just collapsed into the federal itself. And if you've seen that video, it's a very emotional a lot of people who were at the scene burst into tears just seeing that image. The president Macron arrived at his meeting with police. I mean, this is a huge thing that just for prepares in France. But for the entire world, we mentioned, you know, you and I have each been there. I know as a Catholic this is Easter week for me, and it's just the timing of this because we don't know yet because accident, oh, there's no evidence of any foul play. But they don't really know much more than that was under construction at the time. There is this renovation project multimillion dollar renovation project. You saw the scaffolding ten stories all around the spire, and you could see that that part of what is what Convair we want to talk about the architectural significance here because just like you're saying rich, if you've been there and both you, and I have inspired it is on Spiring and just everywhere you look there's something so intricate and so stunningly beautiful historic of The Hunchback of Notre Dame that was based there one of the most famous novels of all eight hundred years of history and so much to talk about one of the most architecturally significant cathedrals on earth, if not the most to say nothing of the. Religious significance in the historical significance was talked to Blair came in the architectural critic from the Chicago Tribune. And we appreciate your time player as you were watching this. What were your thoughts? Have what you were seeing. I was shocked and sad. And I'm in this is right out of a nightmare. It's really awful. Notre dom. You know, a worldwide markets symbol of Paris, France itself, it's a symbol of survival. You know, the French prime minister just tweeted that this was like watching, you know, part of ourselves go up in flames. You know, I I mean, I'll always remember this day. It's it's just it's a Blair. Can you talk about a little bit about the building of Notre Dame? And we're talking what nearly a thousand years ago eight hundred plus years ago at how long it took. And what a marvel of architecture for the thinking of the lack of technology that type speak a little bit about the the construction of the cathedral. Of course. Well, I mean is one of the great French gothic cathedrals that went up touring this surge of building and the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. What does war synthesis of architecture, engineering and artistry? So you see the express structure in the flying buttresses, and you see the credible delicacy of decoration in rose-windows, especially not anonymous special. I was just talking to Allen Fisher and architecture career at the Art Institute and. Unlike shark, and I'm yeah. Or particular which is outside of. There is. In the middle of the city. And you know, it's it's on this island and the fan. They're all these other buildings around it. So, you know, it's monumental in in the context of the city and its location. I think is what an approximately to the daily life of Paris is what? What makes us special? It may not be the greatest of the gothic cathedrals. But none. Cultural and emotional religious residence is building those you mentioned the flying buttresses. It was there was a firefighting expert I believe on CNN earlier, and we'll be talking to someone later here on the program as well. Who said it was those those ribs those would beans that are so artfully crafted if you've been inside the cathedral, and you would see them you just could you could just stand there in off each and every one of them by how they were crafted, and they said, the firefighter was saying that because of these this eight hundred would that had dried out over a number of years that it became pretty rapid fuel for this fire. And that the construction materials certainly didn't help in this case. There's no doubt that, you know, award structure. That's centuries old is tender. What's interesting here is there was a fire thirteen years ago in Chicago, the pilgrim Baptist spire also occur during renovation, and you know, that that was. Well, a great building by. Architecture. We sold them back Adler all, but it's walls exterior walls, burnt down this building on the south side. I mean renovation dangerous business. You know, when you have open flame, dealing with lead or asphalt. If you're not careful something like this can happen. Obviously, there's no conclusion yet to whether or not this was caused by. Lacks lackadaisical construction worker. But certainly, you know, I'm sure that that will be a likely cause inquiry, and we want to talk to we want to talk to the firefighter because people have so many questions this is out of all of our territory, but they're sort of second guessing what happened there a lot of people said, well, why didn't they do this one do this? Why did it take so long for water to get there? Well, there are reasons for that. And we are going to be talking to somebody who has handled very difficult structures structural fires. But in in in terms of the significance of I know, the the French president Macron has talked about how workers did try to save things from the inside architectural architectural relics though. I mean, what could you possibly save hours? You know, how how quickly it? I mean, they're not these are not Curators historians. Yeah. Well, you know, grabbing everything your town. You know, I mean to me. I mean, you know, thank God. There are note deaths associated with us. But to me, it does recall nine eleven stock of seeing this iconic building on fire, you know, and and then spire toppling it has a cinematic. It looks like one of these, you know, millions of disaster movies. We've seen Blair, unfortunately, it's not fiction. Exactly. I mean, that's the thing that like, you know, I got up this morning and the last. What happened? How could how could this happen to this revered beloved by so Maine as you mentioned with with Easter week? All around the world. This is a tragedy. It's it's it's awful. It's truly a nightmare. The latest from the scene. We're hearing is that they're trying to save one of the bell towers that they thought they were going to be able to. But that it's pretty dicey at this moment speech because because I know they they started. I think they were automated after a while the to just initially you had to climb the stairs. And I think visitors to Notre Dom could could climb those stairs at one point and see the bell tower and take a look at that view. Right. Well, I mean that is a good point. You know, one of the things about this building is that you look at it for you look out at Paris from it. And you know, I mean, I think there's something magical about climbing. We all know the algebra. In chicago. There's something magical about climbing to a high point in looking at it over to city now. But, you know, even though this is much lower than you know, they observation decks here there's still something than tastic about going up in these buildings experience at Saint Paul's and in London. You know, where you get that sort of third I view, and and obviously the surroundings here are extraordinarily. It's you know, it's the cenn that's plaza in front of the compete role. Which is, you know, a noted gathering spot for tourists and political protesters. So I mean, this is a building. That's. Really embedded in the life of its city. And you know, they're in the life of the world. And you know, it's of the image of Paris. I mean. Tower. It's along with the Eiffel tower it's one of those buildings that just defines the city, and what it means to be prison. So it's I mean, it's it's it's got wrenching. It really is. It is it is. And you just I think everyone deals with an a different way either you studied in history books, or you've actually been had the honor of being there yourself in person to just stand sit there and be an audit. I remember looking at that on the facade that rose thing glass window and the intricacies and just the beauty of it. Just that one little piece of it. And if you if you walk around everywhere, you look there was something that was so magical in terms of what it what it what it looked like artistically? But what it also meant to the world. And that's the sad part. Absolutely. No. You know, the energy that created this had to do with devotion. You know, the the DeVos, and, you know, the devotion to to marry you know, that's why they're called. No, that's why all the bills are calling them our mother. And so, you know, it's that's the energy that built these that was the motivating force that that led, you know, great engineers architects artisans. You know to to create these spectacular to watch them. Go up in flames is really really awful. It's devastating. You're already seeing though the president Macron and even former President Barack Obama has spoken up to say it is it's history loss, but it is our nature to rebuild. I just wonder about the challenges of rebuilding something like this. You don't see buildings like this going up today in this modern age, and there must be reason for that. Build in gothic style. About you know, in Chicago, we have you know. University of Chicago gothic buildings northwestern housekeeping buildings, but there there's not intensity that comes from age and the the accumulation of weather and events and energy that goes into creating a monument like this that that's partly that devotion that I was talking about. I mean, the last, you know. You know, there is a rebuilding. Of course. You don't want the Disneyland. No. At the same time. You Notre Dame has been renovated in the past the French. Some ways I think I'm not an expert on French history. But I think that sell out of the building fell out of favor during the French revolution, the statues of kings were actually bad it and then in the nineteenth century untold. New wave of. Lead drill being renovated and as recently as five or six or seven years ago twenty twelve there was a story that Reuters put out but the cathedral had been renovated in advance of it's eight hundred fiftieth anniversary. I mean, just to be Cussing Brennan brnovich is like mind boggling rebuilding, and it's not really a product you. Because you know, how do you? How do you make it off panic? I mean, it's. It's really it's it's you know, I can't even get my arms around the around. What's happening right now. It's hard to bring your head there. Even though it might be a positive like, you can see why the French leaders are delivering that message to the people. You can only imagine how they might be feeling today. You saw some people come to the flames, and there's a picture on CNN of this old man just crying, bursting into tears, very visceral, and you know. This idea of potentially somehow, someway, rebuilding maybe is of some comfort to people Blair came. And we certainly appreciate your time on the day. Like this sad day for all of us. Really? And thank you. Thank you for your perspective. You know for discussing it and well for the best and pray for miracle. Like you by really appreciate your insight. Thank you. Okay. Thanks a lot. We have a where we can say there's a reason why has the postal prize for architecture criticism. His he speaks with such eloquence. And even if I'm not interested in what he's writing about. By the time. I finished the article, I always he just a beautiful writer. Passion. He has sure is just palpable. Really? Appreciate his inside. I do too. I agree with you coming up top of the hour. We're going to see what's happening in the news. And for that we head over to Kim, Gordon. And of course, we'll bring you the latest on the massive fire burning at Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.
