"But that could also end in stoppage by somebody. So yeah, I would love that fight. All right, a few more things I want to run through. On Friday, we've got another light heavyweight title and action two in fact. An archer better be of takes on Marcus Brown. As we record this Sergio, I'm pretty sure that fight happens, but right now, Canada is a complete shit show with the COVID-19 virus spreading all over the place. The fight is probably going to take place behind closed doors at the bell center, better be of undefeated knocked out every opponent along the way. Marcus Brown, he's got that Olympic pedigree, but he's also lost his young Pascal and I mean, it doesn't look like it has not looked to this point like he's on the level of archer better beer. How do you see that fight kind of playing out? Yeah, I mean, as soon as you talk about, how do you see this fight and who do you favor? The first thing that pops up in your head is on better vision and knock them out. But anybody that knows boxing anyone that studies the numbers studies the opponents studies the background, you mentioned it, U.S. Olympian, check. So as an amateur experience, he's a tall southpaw check. He's going to give the lefty angles. I think the difference here that we're not seeing the secret weapon here is going to be Derek James. The trainer. First time working on Marcus Brown. Exactly. The motivation is going to be the fact that he's going to be in camp with maybe the best southpaw in the world and Errol Spence. He's going to pick up that southpaw information, the motivation. He's going to be he's going to want to impress him as well. He's asked charlo a beast so he learns the meanness out of Charlotte. So he has a good mix of three brilliant boxing minds right there in that small camp, and none of them are fighting, so he had Derek James to himself. There are James concentrated, however long it was two, three months, just focusing on better beef. Who is beatable, who was overweight for this fight might have been struggling with a point to .36 years old and I just, why do you silly matter? Why do you say better be of his beatable? Now he got knocked down by Callum Johnson. That was more of a flash knockdown for better. We have a couple of years ago. But why do you think he's beatable? I just think maybe lots of good do it. 'cause it's very good fighter. You know, father time and once I know what it's like to fight at 36 years old. But he fights different. He's a 36 is 36 different. 36 is 36, man. And that's why what donara is doing is incredible. And any fighter that's still in the top level past 35 is special. It really is special. There's a young man's game, and the fact that it might be time, the perfect storm might be brewing, but if there's a secret weapon here at the amateur pedigree, the fact that he has the experience coming from Pascal and Derek James in his corner. All right, so you're picking the upset. I'm a throw a couple hundred on that. You're throwing money on Marcus Brown. Todd Grissom, Todd Grisham and I you're throwing money on Mars Brown. You know what? That's something that if the odds are right, yeah, why not? Okay..

Canadians have trailed in the Stanley Cup final Joe only one time before this, it goes back to 1952, a series in which they never lead and would ultimately be swept by the Detroit Red Wings. But it has been that long since they have found themselves in this position in a Stanley Cup final. It has not dimmed the hopes of 3500 or so as we're thinking here, tell, waving, screaming and Light, saber waving fans at Bell Center, but it is a very, very steep hill that they're Canadians must climb, however, when Dominique Ducharme and the coaching staff from Montreal, look at it, That's not how they're approaching. It isn't well, it's not because they've been so they've been through so much as a team, uh, that they just feel that they can overcome. Any type of obstacle, and that's the approach they are taking to this game. They're not looking at this as well. We have to win four. They're looking at this is let's win a game and then let's win one more. And let's try to take it that way. Business like Don't get too overly emotional state lose. "Burns beat writer for your Tampa Bay Lightning coming to you live from inside Emily Arena, which is not the site of Game three of stand of the Stanley Cup final between the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Montreal Canadians. That would be the Bell Center as the series shifts to Montreal for games three and four. However, because of the close Canadian border and restrictions on who can and can't enter the country. We're still here in Tampa, where we'll watch and cover Game three from inside the confines of Amalie Arena. The Lightning are expecting a near capacity crowd to watch the road game from the lightning vision screen inside of the arena and sitting with me inside the home team radio booth. Actually, he's in the visiting booth. I'm in the home team booth. But we can have we have a little window here, Chief that we can. We can bump pants. Welcome back. Bobby, The Chief Taylor to the program. Chief. What have you thought of the series so far? Well, it's been an interesting one because the Lightning had a tremendous first game in Montreal. A tremendous second game. Yeah, it's a It's a It just shows you about for me. Patients of this club and the poise that it has, like they were thoroughly outplayed in that second period so badly that you wonder Oh, man, they're ready gonna fall, but they didn't. They just knew that they had The fire party come back, and he also had the presence of mind to be able to say, you know, it's a game is 60 minutes long, not 40, and they came back like gangbusters, and it was great. I thought the third period, you know, was really a solid period for them, and you know it was. It was one of those ones where That. You know when they got that goal, uh from, uh, Coleman at the very end of the second period. It was just like okay here. We're going to go now. We're going to get it into our mode. And then again when Callie score, Palley score Excuse me. That was it. Yeah, You know they and believe me, and you could just see in the body language of the Canadians in my mind that they're going, What are we going to do to win? It's interesting that you say that I'll bring in our co host Kelly Chelios, who is back in Chicago for today's show. She's going to return next week once the team returns to Montreal to do the show in person like she did for games one and two, but Haley, you were sitting next to me inside of the press box for games one and two. And you mentioned that as well. What chief just said that there are times during that game, especially in Game two. Or it just you said the body language of Montreal. A just kind of gave you a defeated look. Yeah, I agree with you completely, Chief. I thought so. For sure. In both games, Really? I know they played Significantly better and outplayed the lightning in the second period and probably deserve to be ahead after that, But it was like every play the lightning made. Where they see they just seemed overwhelmed at times as opposed to, you know, they're in the Stanley Cup final. They may never be here again. They have nothing left to lose, even if they're facing an opponent, that's better than them. They have carried price in that. I mean, you know better than anyone chief to like with a hot goaltender. Anything can happen, and it's been one goal games. So it is odd to me like on that pallet goal. It was such a stinger, but it was a nonchalant play. It almost felt like they were moving in slow motion on that DDT past. And then just the body language and the response of Petri, and it was just kind of Was a little bit surprised, I guess. To see them play like that. You know, it was almost like they had already lost before the game was over, and they could feel it so That's tough. They're going to be back in Montreal tonight. Maybe they'll have their home crowd and obviously the excitement of just being in Bell Center and their fans outside the arena that they've had throughout them, supporting them, And maybe that's going to give them a little bit more encouragement. They have to do more and You know, even though I thought they played the lightning and the Lightning got the lead,.

"Or whatever it's been so you know it but you like to see i mean what would be better than seeing a bell center sold out the crowd rocky and i could tell you they get one game like that. It would make a huge difference for that team You know. I remember my first experience going to the bell centre and playing a playoff game where it was fallen. I get out on the ice in a warm-up in their streaming and cheering the whole time. During warmup and like the pucks are like moving on the ice. And it's like that's that's the energy there's it's it's a really really cool place to play and i don't think there's ever been a game in the history of the time that i was in montreal where i didn't have my legs at the bell centre at a lot of that has to do with the energy in the building. So would that make a difference for players. I'm sure it would. I am one to know a thing. Or two about droughts because my baseball team had the longest in the history of sports and finally got to break it so it hasn't been that long for montreal but it feels like a really long time last winning the stanley cup in ninety three. And that's the last time. A canadian team won the cup. So i know this sounds crazy. 'cause they're all rivals but at some point. Does the entire country of canada. Want the haves to win to take it back from the americans or they're just too many rivalries amongst all the canadian teams allegedly allegedly. I heard that in in the media. I've heard it in different outlets. But i tell you this league fans do not wanna see montreal canadian's when the cop and you know i can tell you that there's no way there's no way they can try to spin a positive on it to say. Oh yeah we're happy. Canadian team won but real fans. Don't wanna see their rival teams hoisting the stanley cup. So i think that we have to be very careful and mindful of where some of these rumors coming from about all canadians wanting to see avia gene win. I think that the real canadian fans for their teams especially in toronto toronto vancouver but especially toronto. I don't see fans wanting to see montreal canadian's Lift us daily gump. I just don't see it. I want to know what to expect from these teams in game two tonight in tampa because like you said anything goes and playoff hockey. What do you expect though from game to montreal. You don't wanna go home down to nothing to a team like champa it's You know. I think to be able to skill one in tampa could change the series a little bit But how you went is so important. I think that they're going to need some potluck against tampa they're just such a good team So i think that you're gonna see montreal. Really played their best game in game two. They're going to have to ratchet it up and it's going to be difficult because montreal's a team that has success on their speed. They play with a lot of speed and pace upfront. There ford's forechecking but tampa has got just as much if not more and you know i just. I hadn't seen that happen to montreal. Throughout the whole play offs. I hadn't seen you know players being able to match their speed up fraud and i think tampa has the ability to match speed if not faster than montreal in a sixty minute game and For montreal they're going to have to try to play a little bit smarter with the buck and managing not to give any opportunities. You just can't afford to give him any rush opportunities big one tonight for the hab thank you. Pk for coming on. Whatever you are we've gotta talk and it's an obligation for all of us to listen and to help in recent years the league and its players have realized prioritizing mental. Health isn't a distraction. "Vegas trailing two games to one at Montreal. I had the good pleasure speaking with NBC's John Forslund, who's calling the action of this entire series, and he really filled us in nicely with the inside stuff. Right from the Bell Center. I guess you call this entire Montreal Vegas series, and I'm first wondering your reaction to when you heard about coach the Sharm testing positive for Covid and how is Canadians responded in Game three. Well, you know, it's amazing Ted what they were able to do, but I was also able to see last summer in the bubble. What happened there, too, with Claude Julien, the previous coach who had heart surgery. Left as you will recall, and Kirk Mueller took over the team of very similar circumstance, and they had some great success. They just rallied around each other. And a year later. Here they go again only 3500 in the Bell Center for the previous game. How was that in your headsets? And how much do you think it affected the hockey game? Well, I think it was energetic. Obviously, it's nothing like we see in Las Vegas. But here I think it's better than what they used to because there were absolutely no Fans of the second, very sterile environment. And all these teams that played in the North Division that Canadians are resilient Team have proven that with what they did in round one, coming all the way back and beating Toronto and then If they did in the second round, sweeping out a very good Winnipeg team, and now here they are with a game up on Vegas and coming into the playoffs. I think the odds were 500 to 1 for them to win the Stanley Cup, and here they are. So you know, when Anderson scored in overtime, it felt like there were 20,000 here really did so good on Montreal. There's plenty of people outside that are watching on big screens, but the city Is pretty dormant. You know what I mean? Ted, and I think Under normal circumstances, the city would be absolutely electric under normal conditions, And it's not anything close. Yeah, no doubt. It is a fantastic building. We're speaking with NBC's John Forslund and John Robin Letter, now expected to be the starter tonight for Vegas. How should Golden Knights fans feel about the chances of tying this thing up? Well, I think that you have to trust this decision, although most of us would look at it and say, you know what are they doing? And I think a lot of people said that when they started Robin Lennar in Game one of the second round against Colorado and We're going to a break right after this acrid Fischel lamb in that game, they got beat 7 to 1. Just switching segments that Peter de Boer recognize. All right, So we're good. Marc Andre Fleury needed a break and they just wanted it. What would happen in that game and didn't go obviously their way at all, but they were able to get a pass with it put flurry back in and he took off again. Now, in this situation here, I guarantee what they're looking at is probably two ways. If Leonard goes in, and he establishes his game, he can be a dominant goaltender. He's legit number one as we all know that They're very lucky to have too great a goalie's and if so, maybe maybe he gets the net. But I'm thinking it's more along the line of they feel they're being Vegas that they're the better team and they feel they They dominated and they did in so many ways in Game three, and they probably figure they can still beat Montreal with this situation, and if they had to swing back to Fleury, it would give them even more of an energy boost when that time comes. So, um, although it looks a little unconventional, I think of our golden night. Then I trust the coaching staff trust the team. They know it's best. And they know the dynamic here, and I think they're just taking flurry out of the mix tonight and then rolling the dice a little Vegas.

"We are one week away from Election Day, a momentous week here in the United States, and it's a momentous hour here on the program because the voice that you just heard In that clip. From the recently completed Stanley Cup playoffs. It was a familiar one, too many hockey fans there he was calling the Tampa Bay Lightning Sze championship. And that man announced his retirement from broadcasting after 47 years of calling pro hockey. He did so earlier this month he has called 22 Stanley Cup finals. He has won eight Emmy Awards for sports play by play an all time record. He is the first broadcaster ever inducted into the U. S. Hockey Hall of Fame. And he's out with a new memoir called Off Mike. How a Kid From Basketball Crazy Indiana became America's NHL voice, and I would also add. He has been an idol of mine since I was a kid. So I am beyond thrilled and grateful to welcome to the program. Mike Doc Emmerich. Doc, What a pleasure. Guy. Thank you very much. Where were you? A kid. In what State? New Jersey. Ah, what part Northern Jersey, Bergen County and we actually met a handful of times all the way back in the day when you were calling Devils games. I'm a big Devils fan along with my dear friend who, you know very well. Dan Juve. And a few times in Chicago as well. When I was studying at Northwestern, and mostly, I've just been admiring your work from afar on TV, but in those few times that we have met, it's been a pretty special. And so I have to say is sort of this 12 punch. Recently where you announced your retirement from the broadcast booth, and there's this book coming out. I said, You know, we should maybe get him on the show. And we're just very glad that you were able to accommodate us. And I have to tell you, Doc, I read the book. Off Mike last night in its entirety cover to cover although I read it digitally, and I want to start here because you wrote at one point in the book. Quote. A broadcaster's strength is the stories he has collected along the way, and I think that's true. Really across our industry is particularly true in the sports world you have collected Quite a few stories in granular detail. You share quite a few of them in this book. I'm wondering as you were trying to Tear them down and boil them down. 2 272 pages. How did you decide in that curation process which stories and anecdotes were good enough or moving enough or juicy enough? To make the cut. Well, guy, I relied on the experience of Calvin Allen, who covered hockey in the USA today for 34 years. That's the advantage you have with a guy that gets the smaller print on the front cover that does all the heavy lifting, and that's what Kevin did He help me parrot down because for eight years I tried to write a book. And realized that I was still only going to be able to write a check book. If I didn't have professional help. I got it really fast. And in 18 months he had everything prepared down and he had done a lot of extra work to make this thing happened. He and I have even taught even this early about Maybe doing another book entitled What I forgot. That would be all the stuff that didn't make the cut that was still enticing enough that we think it might entertain people. One of the problems to guy when you're doing sort of an autobiography that really gets worked in with stories because I felt that Even the rural Indiana was a lovely place to grow up. It didn't necessarily have the lure that a lot of the stories would. And so Kevin and I tried to weave those in and out so that it would be entertaining for people. But I think one of the things that happens is you collect so many that you really feel like there's some that deserve to be in the book that never made it. And so maybe maybe we have. Ah, if if this one does OK and we We provide for enough hands on care of animals through the sale of this one that will be able to do another one. And that may very well be the title of it. What? I forgot what I left out. I don't know, because they're there are quite a few others. Well, I I formally and officially endorsed that plan here, and my audience perhaps can help make that happen by buying a copy of off Mike. And you just made reference to something that I think is special about this project. The proceeds of this book will go to animal related charities. And that's a cause that is deeply personal to you something that I sort of knew but didn't realise fully until I read off Mike. And Here's the thing. I have a dog. I absolutely adore him. Many people have Ah, Profound attachment for their pats. Your bond seems Particularly strong. You even wrote about a time where one of your ailing dogs I was in such bad shape that you couldn't bring yourself to work Olympic broadcast for NBC and how that was really taking a toll on you. What do you think? Drove that passion? How did that develop? And I wonder now that you've retired from broadcasting Might one of the upsides be, you'll have more time for bonding and spoiling of pets. Well, I think that's probably true, absolutely that there will be more time to devote to that and and also to causes that may benefit pets. We aren't involved in heavy organization in in working with veterinarians and volunteers. Andi. It's not anything that there's a tax write off on it is sensing where there are difficulties that can be rectified anonymously by just slipping a cheque to somebody that Has a bill that needs to be paid. Well, it sounds like this is a book for hockey fans and animal lovers. And if you're both, then it's a no brainer. You write in the book that an interviewer never knows what question might elicit a memorable response. So I want to do a few rapid fire questions. You want to put you too much on the spot. We'll see how this goes. The first one is. Is there a favorite meal or restaurant in an NHL city that you would always crave and look forward going back, too? Yeah, And it's not not one of those exclusive wins and, um In the Faneuil Hall Mark Marketplace in Boston because you could get a really good Caesar salad there on the day of the game, and it was very quick and there was there was an Irish waiter there who work behind the bar. His name was wall. She and we used to talk about British football. He was a man City fan. So that was my favorite. I only because it was a place I like to go and write up the street was a place called Force, which closed on the final day of August the same day the Bruins were eliminated from the playoffs. I guess that's one that comes to mind. Alright, Caesar Cell in Boston. I did not have that one on the bingo card. But there you have it. What is the loudest building? You can remember calling games and where you could, you know, had to crank up the volume on your headset when you could barely hear yourself. Think. Forum in Montreal. Second Place Bell Center in Montreal. If they opened the doors to hours before the game, the standing room only people would get through the turnstiles screaming to run to their spots. It was on electricity beyond belief. Is there one event that you have witnessed or broadcast? If you had to choose one to go back in time and relive it one more time. What would it be? I guess the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, the gold medal game between the United States Canada and ended with Canada winning an overtime, But it had a pit in my best thing about hockey. Uh, whether you had Ah, horse in the race, and most people in North America did But it was the outcome wasn't out In the final minute..

"They have been systematically trading away or letting go guys who were going to cost them too much money. They're they're going straight rebuild. And and so I I understand why he is digging in his heels. I mean, it's it's hard to think about at his age starting over especially when you're likely not to get the kind of money that he's got right now. So now, the Rangers, you know, the Rangers might be able to talk to him. I don't know if he could be convinced. But if it's me, and I don't want to pick up and start over somewhere else. Why would I I worked hard for that contract? I totally agree with you. Gotta look at it like this. All right. So you had Mike Richter, right? The guy who when it was time to quit. Are you saying that Lundquist should quit? I must say you should quit. But I. I think he's being selfish. Men. They're the ones that gave the contract. That's a good point. Okay. That's definitely good. Did you did? You wanna talk about football before? I have to let you go. Oh, yeah. Yes. So when is the next time you think he'll play the bell center. I don't know. I mean, are you talking about the schedule? Yeah. I don't think out yet. I love to see him play football center. That would be amazing. Okay. All right. Okay. Thank you, Chris Steve Christmas playing with pots and pans. Steve is in Baltimore. Steve welcome to after hours CBS sports radio. Okay. That was. Dollars doing sandbox very disappointed on my team. Here's the bottom line with the whole thing that I understand about grown men 'cause I'm loving how you respond to some of these ridiculous comments about the same. Three grown men killer bees right opportunity for Super Bowl. Right. It's ridiculous. You know what I'm saying? I mean, referring to like their loss. Jacksonville. Are you just referring to in general the three of them being a really good unit? And they've they've broken that up. Okay. Because you can't say that they weren't getting the ball. I'll be the records are ridiculous. The eagle Kim dash user the league, Mustang is issues. Ridiculous. When we look back at this. We had opportunity and the one year we'd beat New England. It is ironic. Yes. So you got a lot of people that you know, whatever. But. But I gotta be gotta be honest with you, man, I'm barest. And when you look back in time, I mean, the ruins everybody's got to be really upset out of this. So hopefully that been even though I agree with you the way he's, you know, handling somebody's personalities because like you said, he's the leader. He should know how to handle his personality is probably looks at this year 'cause you ain't got too much more. And he's he's capital. You know, trying to capitalize on on on learning. Something about growing up real quick. So at least try to get one more, Tim. You know, the hold up. Do you think this is his fault though? Steve I mean, I understand what you're saying. And he didn't make it easier for these guys. But I don't think he can be held responsible for a guy sitting out the entire season or you know, an Antonio Brown act like a baby at times. Thank you so much for your phone call seat. I appreciate it. Again. Ben did not help the situation at times. There are ways that he could have been a peace maker instead of the guy who stirring, the pot and who's challenging, and you really need to know who it is that you're leading. And my understanding is he'll also be honored at the Canadians. Flyers game later that night at the bell centre as well. So congratulations suggest piano phenomenal career. And I'm very curious to hear what he has to say. And I will admit them a little sack because I do feel like this is the end of an era and the sport. There aren't a lot of GSP's left from that era that I think may be attracted a lot of us to the sport. And certainly for me as a Canadian as Montreal or it's it's a bittersweet moment. So I think he could be very active till this day. Like, I think he could be a lot of fighters in the, but hey, like Lennox Lewis, another great Canadian, by the way. But that thinking that you said, yeah, that's the problem that I think a lot of these guys think I could still beat all these guys. And that's the problem. They don't walk away. So I think that George is smart. He's done it twice now. Yeah. He's he's realized the first time that he was he wanted needed separate. And he did it didn't say retire. But he's he needed to step away. Now, he's prepared to actually say retire. And the fact that he didn't say before, but he's going to say this time, I think this is good good for him. And it's not just the fight game thing. Right. I mean, it's sometimes it's the thing that we kind of make fun of the fight game about. But like, let's be honest. It's a sports thing. Like, no one walks away on top, Michael, Jordan. Couldn't do it. Right. I mean, the greatest Willie Mays couldn't do it on eighties in the midst could be one of those guys who could do it. But like, it's very rare thing in sports when you're champion. That's why I think DC's not going to do it you're doing so. Well, you're champing you're making money to just walk away. Like, this is an incredibly impressive feat in its own right, right? It's also he did in the cage, it's not athletes, but to walk away like this in sports like I can't think of many guys who walked away quote unquote on top. I'm trying to I'm trying to think who did that though, it doesn't happen. I mean, rocky Marciano. Walked away from boxing undefeated Floyd Mayweather walked away undefeated. But but he keeps coming back doing all kinds of weird things. And you know, he he even he, you know, he's not going back to boxing. But he, but he can't you can't quite get something out of a system. He needs something, you know, an MA. Jeez. I don't even know of who's some guys walked Chris Lytle walked away on a win. But he's come back to do bare knuckle fighting. I mean even Kobe Bryant like they didn't even make or did they make the playoffs. They lost last game against the Utah or something like that. They did nothing in his final season. Right. There were kind of. So the gray manning Peyton Manning walked away after winning the SuperBowl Diddy. Yes. Yes. With the Broncos. Yes. Is that correct? Daniel. That's correct. Okay. That's a resume the NFL guru it just so much different. With them may though, I think just because you're literally people are trying to beat each other up. And it's so strenuous on your body that you could keep going in the NBA. And you know, it's obviously really tough to do that physically. But I just think enemy is different. And you don't want to suffer potential, brain damage and. Whatever else long-term, you know, by keeping yourself going just for the sake of going. Yeah. What a great fight. That would have been him beat though. Oh, just stylus moving wins that fight Jeff. I guess it would depend on when it when it happened. And what George looks like on on the way ends being? I think about it. You know, he's last fight was one hundred eighty five pounds. This is one hundred and fifty five pound. Yeah. That's thirty pounds of a guy. Who is we look I can lose thirty pounds, and you won't even notice..
