"And I know to digress for a moment when you say my son, I said this on the last time I did your podcast, which I think was January, when you say, hey, my son had a couple of his meathead buddies over to watch UFC 293. I do remember when he was doing wrestling moves on the bed in your hotel room at WrestleMania in Dallas, which was a mere eight years ago. And now he's this full football player, you know, stud and all that. So put me in a choke hold and try to do John Jones moves. I mean, the wrestling part was more fun when it was just him in a pillow. Now, now he's using other human beings. Totally, totally. So, you know, look, we'll see how it all shakes out. Um, but, uh, you know, we're optimistic on the rights for both entities. How do you see, cause Vince, I know, and we'll talk about Vince. He just had back surgery, had a pretty embattled last few years, but he stayed in the business. He's come back even since the last time you came on, he's way more involved in all these different things. And here's Dana White, who, you know, I would say came kind of out of the Vince school of promoter and, uh, way, you know, kind of became bigger than the brand in some ways and synonymous with the brand. And as stars came and went, he was always there, which was basically what would Vince has been since the mid eighties. How do you see those two working together and what have been their early reports on how they've collaborated? So I think a couple of things when Dana put out a quote, when this deal was announced, which was just after WrestleMania LA in April, uh, Dana's quote was something to the effect of I'm looking forward to working with Vince and team. Vince is a Savage in the wrestling business, something to that effect. Uh, Vince is as complimentary about Dana. If you look at the two individuals, to me, they have shockingly similar background stories. Both single parent household, both grew up without much money or resources, and both had to fight their way to the inside from the outside. So shocking similarities between the two and how they were able through being forces of nature, build and help build these businesses to the points of where they are now. So here's how in all likelihood it will work. I don't see Vince McMahon calling Dana White and saying, you should do this matchup instead of this matchup. And I don't see Dana calling and saying, why is Roman Reigns wrestling so-and-so at this event? It's more on event production, promotion. How do you make, especially a joint event, the biggest thing in the world? And I'd like to think that everyone's going to work pretty well on that. What is the update? Vince had pretty major surgery a few weeks ago and we haven't heard like from a health standpoint, like how long does that, the details have been pretty sparse. How long before he comes back, is able to work in a railway, move around? I mean, he's in his late seventies now and, um, would it, where is he physically? Well, look, assume that he's doing it faster than he should be doing it, which one might say, Hey, slow down, slow down. But again, I don't think to the Vinces on the Dana's real world, there is any slowing down. So he seems to be progressing quite well. It was major back surgery. Uh, he's back on his feet. And again, this is going to air on Tuesday, the day of the bell ringing. If you will, you will have seen Vince at the bell ringing, ringing that bell center stage. He's a controlling shareholder of WWE. I've always said to him, Hey, it's your company. Thank you for allowing it to become our company, but it's a big moment for him. So he'll be there. You know, I'm sure he'll be suited up, uh, as he almost always is. And, uh, he'll be ready to go.

"It's hard figuring out Gargano's path after this, right? Is it all in the ring? Brussels Reed, he's about as aimless as carrying cross right now. He came in with The Miz and it was just like, well, what are we doing? These squashes and stuff, Ali, it's like so he's better than Kerry crossman. He isn't a better spot, but it's like something between all of them. I don't know. I'm curious, but Kim Gargano will be a good feud after. Yeah, but theory wins, yeah, there's no way he doesn't. And then main event time, the tribal chief, Roman Reigns, versus his hometown hero, Sami Zayn, in the main event, Jay and Jimmy Uso were told to stay home. Watch this on television. No, I mean, Roman watched a little TV last week too. Low last Friday. He saw a certain acknowledgment. Of an us from Sami Zayn, we're going to find out a lot on SmackDown Friday night. Obviously, we're recording this before then. But on Saturday where we're really going to see where the culmination of this happens and I believe we're going to really branch out and just get Roman focusing on kodi after that. Yeah. And the story is going to lean towards Jay and Sammy, however, however this plays out. So yeah, I think to me there's almost no chance to be in Jay, don't show up. It's like they kind of have to. I keep reading different things about who can enter and who can because of Jimmy's legal issues, but I feel like they may have done this cleared up. Jimmy gonna say is that's a home. But Jay has to show up. Yes. And it feels like Kevin has to show up too. Because there's going to be no pop bigger than Kevin and Sammy together to close the show. First of all, Cody and Sammy had a great segment on raw. People hated that. Some people thought it made Samuel look super weak. Yeah, well, I mean, the reality is, is that Sam is not lying. Like Sammy is acknowledged the tribal chief, but he spent his whole time saying this guy can beat everybody. So yeah, it would be okay for him to do himself because the story ain't Sammy and Roman. It's Sammy and Jay. And Sammy's gonna put on a hell of a match. He's probably gonna give Roman one of his best matches. He's gonna come up short. I don't know, even though if Jay costs him, I just know J has to show up to abuse him at some point in this match. And that's when Kevin Owens returns, but there's a lot of people Cody's gone on talking about maybe a triple threat. And I know exactly why they're doing that to make this ending less predictable. But we know how this is going to end. Sami Zayn is going to lose, Kevin Owens should come back. We head this way, but I'm looking forward to the math. I think it's going to be a really good match. I need people to be okay with Sam losing. Goal. And I think even to that point, I do believe that the crowd who wants, I think there's all part of us that want to see Sammy get over Roman. But here, Sam going over Roman here, I believe, is much more of a minority than we really believe it is. Again, Cody comes out to the ring and his pops are he is not getting seen as sucks. Chance. You know? Like Cody is super duper like the guy. And the crowd eats him up. So it's going to be roadie and Coleman. A Roman and Cody. Wow. At WrestleMania. So yeah, Jimmy and Jay are not bullshit. They're not going to be home. They're going to be in Canada. I have two questions for you guys. One on a scale of zero to CM Punk money in the bank in Chicago. How big is that pop gonna be for Sami Zayn? Oh my God. In Montreal and bell center air. So it's going to be big no matter what, right? Road warrior pop. It'll be CM Punk level big. They do two things. If he comes out to the original music, he brings that back. And I know they've been going away from that. They've been giving people new music. There's not today. Give them back. His original music. And if he cuts the beer and cuts the hair down. So he looks like NXT Sammy. The place will explode with just a haircut. Have we seen Sam with his shirt off lately? Yeah, rent. When was the last time we saw the shirt off? They ripped their shirt off two months ago through them the new shirt, and then they ripped it off when they beat the shit out of it. Okay. I was looking at it because WrestleMania shape is a thing. If you look at Cody rose right now, he looks incredible. And I feel like Sammy needs a new look, that disheveled looked at his head. You're absolutely right. I mean, there's only one thing. That could top this all off. If Kevin Owens somehow makes the save and pulls out the mask, it'll be over a lot of people's heads. But the el generico mask, I might cry. If Kevin Owens comes out there and he just pulls it out and just presented this to him and it just goes off the air. And that crowd because they know it. Anyway, el generico is. Steve narco is back. Oh boy. That's the only thing at the top, but to answer the question called, it's going to be one of the biggest problems we've heard since punk and money in the bank. That's and you

"Incidentally, I just learned something fascinating which I had no idea in the bell center, the Montreal Canadiens have a banner honoring the retired numbers of the Montreal Expos. Oh. I had no idea about that. So there's like a historical question. No, it's an early gentleman. Can you name the four retired numbers of the expos? I think are now retired by the nationals, but they weren't originally. Doug Flynn. Yeah, dog Flynn, angel Salazar. Chris nabbie, Delano de shields. Well, let's say it's gotta be rains, rains. Did you mention Carter? Yeah, I gotta be Carter Dawson are range. And then there's a fourth. Rusty stop. Yes. Very good. The biggest star of the early team. You know, any maintained a lot of times. I don't know if you guys noticed on Twitter. This is a brief baseball, but the reds had just a nice thing sort of today honoring Joe Morgan and Johnny Bench who went into the Hall of Fame with like 94 and 82%. And I looked him up on jaws and bench is the number one catcher. Morgan is the number four second baseman. And then if you line them up against the rest of the great the great red machine, that's an incredibly good team. It's stunning. Yeah, I know exactly, right. Tony because the stick at that player. It's not like you have this number one guy who's at the end of his career when the number, the second baseman, like they're all good at the same time. And stunning. Yeah. And Morgan's four and jaws, but the three guys he's ahead of were all like, you know, it's like, I think that if you adjust for quality, you can make a very good case. He's the best second baseman ever, because like Collins lodge away and hornsby were all like putting up numbers and much less competitive environment. So like, I think you can, you know, I think what has a very reasonable case to be the best second base, whatever. Like, it's on slam dunk, but especially like lies away was playing in the AL, it was like, you know, when it was like barely a major league. So I think that it's not, again, you can make a case, I think, for any of Collins, Morgan and hornsby, but like myself, I would take Morgan. He was great. And in the reds, I go 75 and 76 seasons. They're just like making animals. Like nobody remembers like the player that everybody thought was the best player on those teams was George foster, right? No, it's 50 homers, yeah. And he rose, although he kind of got overrated, was a very good player. Yeah, 400 on base and could play like four positions. Ken griffey's old man was a hell of a player too. He wasn't good at son, but he's really good.

"But that could also end in stoppage by somebody. So yeah, I would love that fight. All right, a few more things I want to run through. On Friday, we've got another light heavyweight title and action two in fact. An archer better be of takes on Marcus Brown. As we record this Sergio, I'm pretty sure that fight happens, but right now, Canada is a complete shit show with the COVID-19 virus spreading all over the place. The fight is probably going to take place behind closed doors at the bell center, better be of undefeated knocked out every opponent along the way. Marcus Brown, he's got that Olympic pedigree, but he's also lost his young Pascal and I mean, it doesn't look like it has not looked to this point like he's on the level of archer better beer. How do you see that fight kind of playing out? Yeah, I mean, as soon as you talk about, how do you see this fight and who do you favor? The first thing that pops up in your head is on better vision and knock them out. But anybody that knows boxing anyone that studies the numbers studies the opponents studies the background, you mentioned it, U.S. Olympian, check. So as an amateur experience, he's a tall southpaw check. He's going to give the lefty angles. I think the difference here that we're not seeing the secret weapon here is going to be Derek James. The trainer. First time working on Marcus Brown. Exactly. The motivation is going to be the fact that he's going to be in camp with maybe the best southpaw in the world and Errol Spence. He's going to pick up that southpaw information, the motivation. He's going to be he's going to want to impress him as well. He's asked charlo a beast so he learns the meanness out of Charlotte. So he has a good mix of three brilliant boxing minds right there in that small camp, and none of them are fighting, so he had Derek James to himself. There are James concentrated, however long it was two, three months, just focusing on better beef. Who is beatable, who was overweight for this fight might have been struggling with a point to .36 years old and I just, why do you silly matter? Why do you say better be of his beatable? Now he got knocked down by Callum Johnson. That was more of a flash knockdown for better. We have a couple of years ago. But why do you think he's beatable? I just think maybe lots of good do it. 'cause it's very good fighter. You know, father time and once I know what it's like to fight at 36 years old. But he fights different. He's a 36 is 36 different. 36 is 36, man. And that's why what donara is doing is incredible. And any fighter that's still in the top level past 35 is special. It really is special. There's a young man's game, and the fact that it might be time, the perfect storm might be brewing, but if there's a secret weapon here at the amateur pedigree, the fact that he has the experience coming from Pascal and Derek James in his corner. All right, so you're picking the upset. I'm a throw a couple hundred on that. You're throwing money on Marcus Brown. Todd Grissom, Todd Grisham and I you're throwing money on Mars Brown. You know what? That's something that if the odds are right, yeah, why not? Okay..

"It's Andy West, and I'm here to take you on a journey back to this week in sports history. We'll start off this week in 1914. Babe Ruth debuts as a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. He beats Cleveland 4 to 3. This week in 1933, the first major league All Star game is played at Comiskey Park in Chicago. The American League beats the National League for two on Babe Ruth. Two run home run this week in 1957. Alfie A. Gibson becomes the first black player to win a title at the All England Lawn and Tennis Club by beating Darlene Hard 6362 in the Wimbledon women's singles title match this week in 1983 on the 50th anniversary of the All Star Game, Fred Linds Grand Slam all badly, Hammacher First an all Star competition after record seven run third inning. Chicago's Comiskey Park was the site as it was for the first All Star game in 1933, which I mentioned earlier this week in 1985, West. Germany's Boris Becker at 17 years old, becomes the youngest champion and the first unseeded player in the history of the men's singles at Wimbledon with the victory over Kevin current. Also this week in 1985 Nolan Ryan of the Houston Astros becomes the first pitcher in major league history to reach the 4000 strikeout mark when he strikes out New York's Danny Heat leading off the sixth inning. And this week in 2013 Jimmy Johnson becomes the first driver in 31 years to sweet Daytona International Speedway. And that's just some of what happened this week in sports history. The weekends. This is the I heart radio sports report. The Montreal Canadians were on the verge of being swept in the Stanley Cup finals. But Josh Anderson scored the game winner less than four minutes into overtime, his second goal of the night as the Canadians avoided becoming the first team in 23 years to get swept in the Stanley Cup with a 32 win over the Lightning at the Bell Centre in Montreal. "You know, Pittsburgh skate around in Nashville with the cup hoisted painful, Emily you mentioned this is a chance at a second straight. I mean, at some point, do we start having a conversation about Tampa Bay that involves, like words like dynasty. Yeah, You know, it's crazy because after they won the last one, all everyone was saying is like, well this offseason going to be so hard for them. They're not going to be able to bring everyone back. This might be it in their chance. And lo and behold the confluence of events of Nikita Kucherov getting that hipster during December 29 so that they didn't have to move anyone. Tyler Johnson going on waivers twice unclaimed that look, he's being a big contributor. The Stanley Cup final. They made it work and this offseason again, they're going to have to deal with these same questions. But maybe there's another confluence of events where, yes, they can figure it out and win once again, So I do think that this team that we're seeing now is a manifestation of years. Honestly, a decade of strong drafting, and I'm count management Julian Greece plot their GM, but it's also his predecessors advisor Man. I think that's the name that anyone who doesn't even know hockey probably should know. He is a genius of the GM. Just as he was a genius as a player, and there are really good teams. There are really deep team and I think they're going to be heck of a competitive team next year. You know, they have to get rid of people. They have a world class talent and the key to Kucherov, Andrei Batalov Ski and Victor Hedman. It's Spain and fit Sarah, Spain. Jason Pitts. We're talking to Emily Kaplan about the chance for the bolts to repeat his champions with the wind tonight, a Stanley Cup final sweep. After all that time that the Canadians had to wait to make it back, and it could be over just like that. I want to drill down on what you just talked about with the surgery and the timing. There are some people who are critical of the bolts and how things have gone this year, perhaps trying to evade the rules and either In order to send this particular team to the final, right. Yes, And you know it's fans doing it. I hear it within the league to. There's a lot of people in the NHL around the NHL. Who say we get it? We understand the rules are what they are with a salary cap. But why did he get this surgery on December? 29th? Why did he get in October? Why did you get in November? Why did he wait until this moment when the lo and behold it was very convenient. And then he came back low and behold, very convenient Game one of the playoffs looking quite dominant could he have played in the regular season? That timeline seemed a little sketchy, But you know Gary Bettman, his three Stanley Cup presser was asked about this at quite defiant, saying We looked into it. The rules are the rules. They've been like this for a very long time. We have no issues with it. And honestly, I don't I don't Think there's anything malicious about it. I don't think there's anything sinister going on. I honestly think it's a confluence of good luck and kind of fortunate event. So where did this all go wrong? I mean, the Canadians obviously came into the entire Stanley Cup playoff. Not favored, right? And Carey Price gets hot. Everybody says Okay, you've got a hot goalie. Where did it go Wrong for price and this Because this was a close game. Game One was a one goal game in the third. It just got out of hand. And it feels like everything sent in has been at a hand. Is there something Montreal could have done differently in your mind? You know For me. The turning point was Game two because that game they actually outplayed the lightning. Significantly. They had a plus 20 shot differential. If you're getting 20 more shots from the other team, you usually win the game. And that was just one of those games were just none of the lucky bounces. We're going in, and all of them were going in for the Tampa Bay Lightning. If I had to think of one turning point in the series, it was Blake Coleman. Good Texas American boy can save us on July 5th nicking this incredible diving goal with just like, seconds left in that second period. If you hadn't seen it, go look it up. And after that, it almost just felt like Montreal was deflated and and James break the fact that they come home. First time in 28 years. They're playing with Stanley Cup final at the Bell Centre. Unfortunately, the Quebec government didn't allow them to have more than 3500 fans. So it felt like a lot and they just came out flat. And I'm like, you know what? It's not their year, they're gassed. This is Tampa based Hey, Emily, Before we let you go, you just pointed out. If you're out, shooting a team by 20 shots a game. You're probably winning that game. It had me thinking I would like you to tell me Which of these is the most prominent and most often used hockey cliche, is it Get pucks on the net, but she just referred to is it calling a stadium? A barn? Or is it a goalie standing on his head? Oh, you know in the organization is all about the process and take it one game at a time. I think the answer is none of the above it fucked deep. Yes, plus deep. They're not even get pucks on net. Wow. I've been out of the game for too long When I covered the Blackhawks in and out in those locker rooms, and at the games I started saying organization and I still do. And people are like, what's wrong with you, Like, I don't know. I just heard them say it too many times. And now I say, organization, but you know what's crazy? What? I'm like, covering a final and I'm around a lot of hockey people. All of a sudden, I just a story. I swear to God. The last couple days have just been saying story and everybody. Yes, Save yourself, Emily. You are the best, my friend. Thank you so much for the inside the expertise and enjoy this process. Hopefully, the the final is a little longer, Just because it means that we get to see more rock. It's really just selfish at this point and talk to Emily more. Yeah. I love it. I love it. No. One, sir, in any games, but I'll take more hockey appreciate. Thanks, Emily. That's Emily Kaplan, ESPN NHL reporter on Spain and fits all right. We got a bunch of stuff we want to get into. So we're going to do it the way only weekend on this show quickies coming up next Spain if it's on ESPN radio Coming up Tuesday..

"Join us on CBS, portray yourself Kenny Carmen. Next hour. We'll hop on and do some Cleveland stuff with us. Plenty to talk about NBA Final NHL Final goes tonight baseball stuff I do want to give some props to show a Otani. Was named the All Star started for the American League Designated position be the fan vote earlier this week. Yesterday, they named him as a pitcher to the American League All Star staff as well. And he's having a good year. Picking a sound. You're pitching, not an off the charge here pitching he got pounded in his last start by the Yankees gave up seven runs without getting out of the first inning. And oh, by the way, the Angels came back to win that game. The Yankees have blown some awful leads this past week. Um, but he did come back down. Artist was pitching goes, but I got no issue with him, making it as a picture because He is participating in the home run Derby on Monday, which I think is cool. I was very much looking forward at home run Derby guys that wanted to see Otani. He's in 31 home runs on pasted 60. This year, we'll see if he can actually pull that off. Kyle Schwarber hit like a home run a day for the last two weeks. Unfortunately, got her over the weekend. Not going to participate. Fernando Tattoo. He's one of the young up and coming stars may be the most exciting player Major League baseball right now, with Mike Trout on the sideline. He said. I'll pass black Guerrero Jr has already done the home run hitting Derby. And did it well, had an unbelievable round. He didn't win. But he had an unbeliever around put on a show. He said. Yeah, this year. A week week. Tatty Sweet Guerrero. Unfortunate for Schwarber. Hey, at least old tiny is going to hold up his end of the bargain. Peter Lanza is going to be an Easter defending champion Trey Mancini may be the most heartwarming story of Major League Baseball beating cancer last year missed the entire season has come back, had a dynamite year for the Orioles. He'll be the people's choice. Acceptance in Colorado. So maybe Trevor story is that people try out. Dean Guy always gets the backing from the crowd. I guess it'll be okay. But I'm a little bummed out that you got two young superstars to Junior's Vlad Guerrero and Fernando Tatty ease who both decided. No, not this year, So it takes a little bit of a luster off it. But Otani is the main show. They're so good for him if he's going to get D h duty. It was going to get pitching duty if you're going to start it with home run Derby duty Good for Otani. And a quick aside, My daughter is a huge baseball fan. You've heard me talk about her before. She worked for several years for the MLB network, Um, taking a long commute from where we live in Jersey, up to North Jersey, where the MLB studios aren't she loved her job, but the commute was killing her. So she left the MLB network little over a year ago. As a matter of fact, she's working closer to home these days, but the new job to with Comcast, Um, but she's still a diehard baseball fan. She was at Citizens Bank Park, watching the Phillies yesterday she did tweet out. That show how she bought a Shohei Otani T shirt over the weekend. The first piece of merchandise that he's ever bought. That is not Phillies related. She grew up here in the South jersey not apart from Philadelphia. So she's a Phillies fan. It's the first time she's ever gotten which you worked at the MLB network got MLB stuff, but she didn't lay out her own personal money for it. She said. Show is just too cool. I saw this I had to buy itself. I'm on the show. Hey, bandwagon as well. Shohei Otani fans You can get on my phone's 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. And for D A on this Monday morning holiday Monday morning, Upright and early with me is Eric Arthur quits telling us what the hell we should know from the past weekend. "I was also thinking during the pandemic, No major city I know of Had people leaving by the thousands like New York. And much like when Hurricane Katrina displaced people in Louisiana and they didn't come back. Why would they go back after the pandemic? Well, I mean, if you if you look at people who are living in and around New York City, which there was a time a couple years ago, I was dying to move to New York City. Not now. People getting shot in Times Square in broad daylight. There's murders and stuff going on the Bronx in Brooklyn, like they haven't seen since the seventies, when it was a rotten drug fessed up there. And why would you want to live up there? The city that never really just waiting for? I was just waiting for you to add. For for Geo and others like him, You know, they say if you can't beat them, join them. Yeah, we don't want you know, we don't want you here are sports talk. I mean, their sports talk is terrible. I'm sorry. You have all those teams. And it's back after not assuming he would have a job here. I don't want him as a resident here. No, no, no. A lot of people from New York are moving down here and doing their jobs from down here. I know. Chase Bank has called all their employees back said if you're not back by Labor Day, you're not going to get New York salaries anymore. I know for a fact, all ESPN employee employees are expected back. By start of 2022. I know some who are like, Well, haven't we proven we can do our jobs from so Yeah. I mean, that's coming. Where people are going to have to make a decision. Do you want to continue to live a better life or do you want to go back? To geography that clearly You don't desire anymore, right? Right? And looking at the state of W F A N mark. Turn off. Just retired after being there way too long. In my opinion, he is the epitome of a program director who lost touch of his radio station ass kissing by the media. Jesus Christ for love, Mike. You know, I know how he lost touch of things firsthand. Oh, absolutely story. I still haven't told on the Todd right podcast which will be coming soon. Yeah, I mean, he had a hand. In the fan over here in 98.7, and they were trying to treat it like I don't know. You know better than most the way they were trying to treat it, And I'm sure you'll tell the story. But I had. Well, I had a discussion with him a couple years ago. And the things he was telling me like, Oh, yeah, we trade Tampa and blood, blah, blah, blah. I was like you could toad. You don't know what the hell you're talking about. Right? He wasn't accountable for the fact that he was the problem. Yeah, exactly. You know, because w f a n Hey, look in its heyday when it started as a sports station F a N was phenomenal. It was something new. A new short, oy. Then they got so full of them full of themselves, and it got so bloated and then he left mad dog, walk out the door and go to Sirius XM. And then you keep that blowhard Francis off their who hasn't been accurate about any accountability sports whatsoever. Since I think frigging, uh, Bush administration if that you're absolutely right. It's just like, come on. They win by default. Because ESPN I'm sorry. They just like Put stuff in and a market like New York. You can't just pipe stuff. What about Craig? I know you're a big fan of Craig Carton. In my opinion, I don't know how he got his job back. But Todd. I don't know your thoughts on that If you want to just bring that up on the podcast. No, I'm distant on that. I actually wanted to get back to one of the things that I said, uh, both locally on On spectrum on the Vegas stats. An information network where I make regular appearances and on the top right podcast was How the Montreal Canadians didn't even deserve to make the Stanley Cup, right. If if we had had our normal divisions this year, right? Montreal doesn't make the make the playoffs at all. The league catered to the closed border and guaranteed You tell me they didn't like this because of the Canadian base and TV rights. They guaranteed that a one of their seven Canadian teams would be in the Stanley Cup semi finals. It was a gift. Um Vegas tanked after Game one as a Vegas Golden Knights follower and knowing people in the organization Vegas gagged that series about as bad as any series has been gagged. The last two decades in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Well, Colorado hell of a fight. Colorado. Fantastic. Colorado should be in the Stanley Cup playoffs right now, if they had their stuff together. I agree. I agree. Um Colorado needs to They still need to grow up a little bit and need to learn how to make adjustments, which the lightning were the same way for a period of years there, and I think Colorado is going to get there. They also need a better goaltender. Group. Our was nominated for a Vezina. He had a good year. He's not the goaltender. I don't think to when you're Stanley Cup but back to back to Montreal. In the regular season. They lost eight war games than they won right. They were the only division this year in the NHL was seven teams. They finished fourth from the bottom and got in. If you finish fourth from the bottom and the Lightning's division, you're out. You finish fourth from the bottom in the Vegas Division. You were out. So the league is the league is getting what it deserved. We may have the first sweep in the salary cap era. We haven't had a sweep since 1998. So we haven't had sweep this century. In the salary cap era, and Montreal hasn't been swept with all their Stanley Cup appearances since. 1952. This is men against boys. It serves the league, right. And granted. Vegas contributed to this with their collapse against the Canadians, But the league is getting what it deserved. Based on how they formatted the playoffs. They are getting a horrible, one sided Stanley Cup Final two notes. You mentioned that Montreal finished fourth from the bottom. It's reminiscent of in the early eighties, when the Vancouver Canucks finished with a sub 500 records. Made it to the Stanley Cup finals against Stanley Cup final. I should say against the New York Islanders and Islanders just toyed with him the whole series and won the cup and then secondly, Um, I was up in Montreal for the year that the Lightning won the cup. The organization flew us up for Game four up in Montreal, the Bell Center and that was when the lightning swept them. And you could the people out there were just incredulous at how a team from Florida To beat the Montrachet and sweep them. It was just like it was absurd to them like they was, And then there were there was broad throughout the streets as we were making our way to the team bus to get the hell out of Montreal. There's still that attitude, Mike Occasionally I listen to Sirius XM, Uh, NHL radio, which I call based on how they talk Canadian hockey radio pretty much because the biased the bias towards Hockey in Canada..

"Wilson Fillion for Nate Geary this weekend. He is a way out of town, so I'm here filling in talking some hockey with you here. As the Sabres off season continues in a busy off season. It is likely going to be we're gonna talk a little bit about that in a little bit next year with our next guest. He is SportsNet Hockey Insider, Elliott Freeman. You hear them every week on the instigators, and this week, he's kind enough to join me here on sports Talk Saturday. Elliott again Thank you for taking the time this afternoon to join me here and welcome into the show. My pleasure. Breeding. How are you doing? Hey, I'm doing all right. It's a Saturday. It's Fourth of July weekend. Happy Belated Canada dates you as well up north there. Thanks very much. And right back at you. Thank you very much. Hey, uh, you're in Montreal You took in the game three of the Stanley Cup final last night. Mind you. Montreal Fit. Montreal now faces a three Nothing deficit. But what was it like for you just being able to be back in a building again for the first time in months since the Covid 19 pandemic. It was awesome. It really was. You know you It's like the old line. You realize how much a lot of something when you miss it. Or you're away from it, And I I certainly did. It was it was a real energetic feeling going into the building last night. And even though Tampa you know, kind of, uh, kicked the crap out of that moved with two goals in the 1st 3.5 minutes, it was Awesome to see the introductions. It was awesome to be a part of it. And even though it might be the last game of the season, I'm looking forward to going on Monday night. Yeah, I was going to ask that next with Montreal just Is there any possible way they can pull off the impossible down three? Nothing. I know all the odds are against them. But do they have anything left in the tank? Or do you feel that they're done here? Is this going to be over? You know, either Monday night or Wednesday night. How do you feel This is going to play out for the rest of the series. Well, you've seen dumb and dumber, right? Yeah. So you're saying there's a chance, right? I mean, you always You always keep the door ajar in case something happens, but campus a machine, man. They they are so good and they'll play you anyway. You want to play And they determine you know what you're good at and they take it away from you. They they are. They are soul so good, so so talented and so so machine like It's an enormous challenge, and I know I'm not exactly a genius to see that. Right. So when you're looking at Tampa Bay, I mean, they've had a number of impressive performances throughout these playoffs, but really, who's who's likely to come away as the Conn Smythe winner? You could look at Kutaragi, who's leading the team in scoring who leads the NHL. In playoff scoring Brayden point who scored 14 goals and had that incredible goal scoring streak. Then you have Andrei Vasilevskiy who, you know, maybe despite yesterday, giving up three goals that maybe he'd like back, he still put up one of the more impressive goaltending performances of the of the playoffs. Maybe in the last 10 12 years, so Who in your mind it's coming out of this is the M V p of the playoffs. Well, I think that first of all you know, I was thinking about win or lose couldn't be priced. For Montreal, but I just think, unfortunately for him the way the finals gone, I don't think price can win. It is borrowing, you know the momentous comeback of all comebacks. I really feel it's one of three lightning players, its vassal associates, Kucherov or its point Um, you know, we have to submit the ballot with 10 minutes left in the third period of the game on Monday, regardless of How things stand. I'm going to spend the next 48 hours thinking about it. My lien is culture of, but I can be talked out of it. You know, that's for sure. Um, I just have to think about what I want to do, but I think it's one of those three guys. Very good. Elliott Friedman from SportsNet joining us here on the West. Her hotline he's in Montreal, taking in Game three and four of the Stanley Cup final. Game four comes your way Monday night at the Bell Centre. You can hear that live on W G. R with coverage beginning at 7 30 face off at eight o'clock so earlier this week, Elliott. Obviously you've been connected with the Sabres. You've been dialed in on what's going on this offseason. They officially main Don Granado, the head coach of the Sabres on Tuesday they introduced him on Thursday. Did you feel that Don Granado was the clear cut number one choice from the start, or you know how close were they to taking somebody else's head coach. You know, I don't know if I would say clear cut, but I always felt he was the favorite. You know, I I really believe that somebody was going to have to come in and kind of knocked their socks off to, you know to to beat Granado. I think the other thing, too, was the Sabres had a budget for this higher I'm always, you know, bring them always really careful with this because I don't like how sometimes that gets weaponized against people like, Oh, well, they're the cheap person that they're hired. No, that's that's not what I'm saying. I'm just saying that there are times that you spend two million on a coach and there are times that you don't and I think the savers were one of those places where they were saying themselves. This is not the time for that. And so while I think there were obviously some conversations with people like, you know, Rick, talk it. I don't think they were ready to go into the budget area where Rick talk it was going to be so I think it was a combination of two things who was the right fit, and they already knew that Granada was a really good fit. And also be you know what they were looking at in terms of spending on a coach at this time, and I think a guy like Granada was much more close to that spot. Then a guy like pocket would be So I'm not surprised It worked out that this way. Um you know, I don't know. Who they else they seriously seriously considered. I know they talked to a few people, but I really believe that the process was going but at the most likely option that that Granada was going to be the guy Elliott Friedman from SportsNet joining us here on the Western Hotline here on W. G. R. So Granado comes in. He's now the full time head coach of the team. He had Matt Allison Dan Girardi as part of his coaching staff on an intern basis when he took over Are you? What are you hearing about? The possibility of those gentlemen being back in their same roles as this season starts later on in October. Do you think that both of them will be back? Do you think one of them will be back or Who are maybe some interesting names that could intrigued the Sabres in terms of assistance on Grant Don Granato staff. Well, somebody had told me they thought that Dallas would be staying, but I don't know if that's true. Um, you know, I got a lot of time for Matt Alice. So I think he'd be perfect. You know, one of the things that normally happens in these kinds of decisions. Freedom is that the head coach gets to pick one assistant and the team gets to pick one assistant Now I'm not sure a buffalo be following that same formula, but I know that a few teams in the league where it kind of works that way. So I'm sure they're working through it. I'm sure that was part of discussions. You know, I don't have any means for you at this point in time. To be honest, I haven't looked at at a time. The one name I had heard was Ellis is but I belong to you. If I said with any certainty, add some good ideas for you on this one. Fair enough. All right, one of the other main interesting talking points. I know that Andrew and Craig on the instigators have asked you plenty about this, and I'm sure you'll get ass. Plenty more about this later on is The latest on the Jack Eichel front. How close are we potentially from for a decision to come? Whether it's regarding his treatment plan for his herniated disk in his neck?.

"Score of 3 to 1, despite being out shot 43 23 by the Canadians, and remember 90% of the clubs that lead to Oh, in the final go on to hoist the Stanley Cup. One big positive for the home team tonight. Montreal killed off all three Tampa Bay power plays. Huge Game three Tampa Bay Taking the opener 5 to 1 and then Game two by a score of 3 to 1, Despite being out shot 43 23 by the Canadians, and remember 90% of the clubs that lead to win the final. Go on to hoist the Stanley Cup. One big positive for the home team tonight. My treat. Killed off all three Tampa Bay power plays in Game two, which is a story in itself, while the haves best goal scoring threat 20 year old cold Caufield was surprisingly not on the ice during their four on three opportunity on Wednesday night and never did get on the scoresheet. "Mhm. A J. Thanks for doing this. We've got to ask you. What is the love of of Caufield and his game come from, Uh, I mean, obviously, I watched him at Wisconsin. I'm obviously a badger myself. And so him growing up in Stevens point in me being a badger and watching their run this year in the Big 10 tournament. And, uh yeah boys just obviously became a caufield fan with how Special. He is as a player. But then in the first round of the playoffs when I saw he wasn't playing, um just sent off a simple little tweets, and I thought series could use a little Caufield. Obviously they were down 02 at the time, and I'm not saying that I'm suits air of any kind or anything, but they've been doing all right sense. J. J. We need a Stanley Cup prediction from you. Oh, come on. Come on. Who's this is this is the sure fire way to make me look like an idiot in about three days when one of the team wins, but I'll give it a go. Why not? I'm on the Caufield trained. They're going to find a way to come back. They're going to find a way to win this series. And this is probably gonna be 100% wrong, But we'll go with coal Caufield over the Islanders for the way way. Uh, you're making fans across Canada, certainly in Montreal. All right. That was JJ Watts. Um Yeah. Call Caufield Van. With he was with David, Amber and Elliot Elliot's going to join us at 11. I've been watching this I mean, You see what on on TV that are on Twitter with his coal car field shirt? Yeah. I mean, pretty cool, Caufield. You gotta feel pretty cool. Like I mean, J. J Watt. I mean, you know, everyone has a J. J. Watt jersey. Yeah, but I mean, I don't know how many how many superstar athletes are walking around with the Caufield jersey any bigger than Well, not yet. Kids well on his way because he's doing some great things in Montreal. I mean, he's making some noise. You know, he obviously he came out of the national development program. And he has scored more goals in a single season than any player in U. S history went to, um You know, Wisconsin badgers and was completely lights out. Did he not win the Hobey Baker and my did I lose my my, my lose my marbles. I think he won the Hobey Baker. This year. And now, obviously with the Montreal Canadians and He's getting it done is not big in stature, but he has got a big heart and he plays that game hard, and he's making the players that he's playing with around him better. He's he's pretty fun to watch. I can't believe the haves took it to the Vegas nights the way they did last night. I I mean, Just when you just you start to think yourself in it. Here's the thing. It's different if the Canadians squeaked out a win carry price stood on his head and the Montreal Canadians won by squeaking by No. They dominated the game. Do you not feel that they were Played exceptionally well, while I went to bed at two. Nothing. I was with my little guy, but they at that point they were they were. I mean, it was to nothing. I didn't feel like when I woke up this morning and check the score. It wasn't like I'm sitting there, saying Before I checked that I thought Montreal definitely won that game. You know, I was I was surprised, Uh, you know, but Las Vegas. They're powerhouse. I mean, there are dirt. When you say that, but looks like much, or all could be in the same boat right now. No. I don't. I don't know. I wouldn't. I don't. I don't know what it is. I mean, is it just, uh is it what? I love watching? Just one team. Is it one you know is that one team shutting down the other team you got? You know, I mean, Mean shutting down the other team. Chris was. We're talking like you said this morning, he was talking about Montreal's defensive zone coverage. And, you know, one of the laziest things you can say is that the only one because of Carrie Price But you know, it's like, um, They didn't didn't win that game because of Carrie Price right there. That was that's part about it. They won because they outworked and out competed and they did what they needed to do. They got up three Nothing and I'm gonna tell you, you get up one. Nothing with Montreal. Montreal gets up one Nothing. They feel comfortable and confident that they can play with that lead and win games, and that's what they did. They scored the first school, Um and they never looked back and they're just sucks against Montreal can't go back to Montreal and play in front of a pact Bell Center. They can only do it in front of 3500 people there, allowing 3500 people use something. If that Oh, my goodness. If you you would not be believe that building Right now in the conference finals that place Would be electric that places electing you've seen game 53 of the regular season. Random night. It's electric. I couldn't imagine what they'd be doing that right now, if they could let him in. Yeah, Look at Long Island. Look at Long Island. The only reason why I want Long Island to advances because of their fans. I mean, talk about a fan base that deserves it. Vegas. I mean, you know the one guy. It was funny. I think Bulldog tweeted something There's show the Vegas fan just in such agony last night after the loss, you know, just, you know, towel over his head, just like Oh, my God. The pain. It's like, Yeah, right. You guys have been in the conference finals. 75% of the of your egg. Someone talked to me three decades from her four decades from now And then then we'll then we'll talk about pain. Right, but that's what makes sports so great and it's it's not Like if you're a Montreal Canadian fan, Okay, then. It's passed down. It's passed down. If you're an Islanders fan, and you and you know you have your own family. You are passing down that love of that team. And what happens usually is a lot of times your your son or your daughter loves that team, and it's It's, uh Something. It's been decades that some teams have not won a Stanley Cup. ER, there's teams that have never won a Stanley Cup. But the passion the fan base, the fans make this tick. That's what I love watching. I just love watching the fans when I played, I'm going to tell you like Fans are everything. Fans are everything. Well, we got to go to break Elliott Friedman coming up and he did tell me that, uh, they are definitely talking and they being Sabres in Anaheim. How extensive. Are those talks? We'll.
