A highlight from The Debut of NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube
"Welcome everyone to SI Media with Jimmy Traina. I am your host, Jimmy Traina. Thank you so much for listening. Bonus episode, bonus podcast on this Monday after the first Sunday of the NFL season. We had the debut of NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube. It was on DirecTV for like 25 years. Now it's on YouTube. And Sal Licata, who joins me every week for Train of Thoughts from WFAN in New York and SNY TV in New York, joins me where we share our experiences with Sunday Ticket on YouTube, getting it set up, what we thought of it, full review, full breakdown of everything, what you need to know about it, what their differences are if you have YouTube TV, if you have cable, full breakdown of everything all related to NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube. That's what this pod is with Sal. It's like a full -blown Train of Thoughts. So listen to Sal and I discuss it, come back later in the week for a regular episode. If you missed any recent episodes, check them out. Last week, Julian Edelman was on. He was great. Just joining Fox had some great Brady and Belichick stories. Charles Barkley was on recently, Peter Schrager, Chris Russo. Check all those pods out. Subscribe to SI Media with Jimmy Traina. And this is one of two episodes this week. All right, let's get to it now with Sal. Full episode here on NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube. All right here right now on SI Media with Jimmy Traina. Welcome everyone to SI Media with Jimmy Traina. Thanks for listening. Bonus episode this week. This will be one of two. We're taping this on Monday after the first week of the NFL season, the debut of the new Sunday Ticket on Yahoo, on Yahoo. What a dope. On YouTube, on YouTube, I had to get on with Sal and we're just gonna riff about our Sunday Ticket experiences in week one. Sal, how are you? I'm great and I'm excited to have this conversation with you because we've had this many times over the years at dinner, at our houses, whatever, discussing this exact thing. And we both, I know, had great experiences yesterday. So I'm looking forward to talking about it with you. Well, let's start with this. There are many, many train of thought segments on this podcast over the last three months where you said you were not going to get Sunday Ticket. You were not going to get it. You're just focusing on the New York teams. And then I got the text message. Let's see here if I can find the text message. Even, even early, I noticed you were starting to cave a little bit earlier this week. Actually, 9 .34 a .m. on Sunday, I'm still on the fence. And then at 10 .45 a .m., the text came in from Sal. I'm in. It's like Michael Jordan returning to the NBA. I know. I thought about writing to you. I'm back. I was thinking about it as the week went on. I told you, like, because of the lineup with the playing Giants Sunday and the Jets playing Monday, that to me made it worse. Or you were saying, oh, well, you're going to have the national games. Yeah. But knowing that I didn't have to watch those games at that time made it more appealing for me to get the get the Sunday ticket. So I kind of thought I'd be going that way. And then Sunday morning I was like, fuck it. Let me just get this thing in. It's worth the money. Let me see what it's all about. And is it great. So so let me do a little preamble here before we get into it, because I want to say this and let me know if you agree, disagree. But before we even discuss this, I think what we need to establish is this. How you feel about Sunday ticket, whether it's direct TV, YouTube, the changes or it's it's going to depend on how you watch football, number one, and it's going to depend on what services you have. Now, for instance, Sal has direct TV. I have I don't have direct TV. Oh, oh, you have optimum cable. Correct. OK. Optimum cable. You were scamming the direct TV Sunday ticket all these years. That's right. All right. I did have direct TV. Right. And this is an important part of it. I don't want to gloss over it. And then I moved into the city and I was not allowed to get direct TV. So what they did was allow me to stream Sunday tickets. So I have been able to stream Sunday ticket for several years. So whether you have optimum like Sal, I have Verizon, Fios. Some people have direct TV. Some people don't have any cable. They have streaming services. That's a factor in all this. And then the other thing that I think added so much confusion over the last couple of weeks and is early yesterday there's also this huge Sunday ticket is different based on whether you have YouTube TV or you're just using YouTube. Now, Sal and I both have cable, so we're just using YouTube. If you have YouTube TV, the experience is different. So there's a lot of layers to this. It's very convoluted. I'm going to do my best to try to break it down for you now. So the biggest thing is this. If you have YouTube TV, you're good to go with Sunday ticket with your in -market and out -of -market games. You have nothing to worry about. If you don't have YouTube TV, like Sal and I, you're not getting the local market game. So on Sunday here in New York, Steelers, Niners was on Fox at one o 'clock. Browns, Bengals was on CBS at one o 'clock. Those games are not part of our Sunday ticket packages on YouTube. If you have YouTube TV, they were. So if you don't have YouTube TV and you just have YouTube, you have to have more than one television. I think if you want to watch all the games, if you care about one team, you're fine. You really do need to have two TVs because what I did was I had on my big TV, the multi -view with the four games. And on the second TV, I had one of the local games because that's how you have to do it. So, so far I weigh in on what I've said so far. Yes. Okay. Question here. Number one, if I had YouTube TV, do I then get the local games as part of the game mix? Yes. Oh, shit. See, so I may consider then, I don't know if I'm realistically going to do it, but that to me is like the number one thing that's been missing forever on the prior service. And now that I cannot have, because like you, I like to have the game mix and the four box grid, but it automatically takes out whatever local game is on. And I hate that. So here in New York, we could not get a four game multi -view that had either Steelers Niners or Browns Bengals in it on Sunday. Cause those are in market games. So there was no multi -view whether it was four games, three games that had those games in it. If you had YouTube TV, those games were part of the multi -view. So you, so you, so you would consider getting rid of optimum and getting YouTube TV. Well, I didn't know that that was the case. I mean, I probably, truth be told, I'll never be a cord cutter, but if I were to get it in addition, it might be worth it at least just for the season. Now I screwed up because I bought the ticket. Although I guess you have this period now where it's kind of, um, you know, the tree trial period and I can make a decision at the end of the week, but, uh, I'd rather than go back and get the ticket much cheaper if you buy YouTube TV, I think. Right. You know, YouTube TV is like $80 a month. It's like a cable service.

Ultraflex Football
Fresh update on "belichick" discussed on Ultraflex Football
"The Jets should trade, I mean, they're signing Trevor Simeon or whatever, but they should be trading for Minshew if they could, I'd be giving up a third round for Minshew with that roster. You're just wasting the year with a really good roster, but anyway. I still can't believe they haven't signed somebody better. Or Simeon. Trash. All right, let's pick some games, and then we'll do the Rob, so pick games for week four. Forgot about the music there. Week three recap. I led the way this week with 12 correct. Anthony had 11, Ryan had nine. Oof. Nine's still actually not too bad, we had a pretty good week. Ryan, you going first, or last? I want to go last, I want Rob to go first. You want me to go first. Lions. Okay. Lions at Packers. Lions. Lions. Packers. Ryan can't not pick the Packers. Falcons at Jaguars. Give me the Jags to bounce back. Jags. This has to be their bounce back games, Jags, all the way. The toilet bowl. The gross game of the week, Broncos at Bears, I got to imagine that Sean Payton's going to find a way to get his team to bounce back after that disaster last, give me the Broncos. Yeah, they both stink, but I think the Bears stink a little bit more, so I will also go Broncos. Isn't there two toilet bowl games this week, two O and two teams play each other? Or four O and two teams play each other, isn't that right? I mean, I'll go Broncos on this one, but maybe O and three. There is one later on. Or O and three, I'm sorry. Next up, Ravens at Browns, I'll take the home team, give me the Browns. I think Lamar gets it done, so Ravens. Guys, there's only been one team that's played a snap inside the Browns red zone. That was the Titans, and it was because of a turnover, and they were taken right out of the red zone like right after that, so I'm going to go Browns. That defense is unbelievable. Bengals at Titans, Burrow got through healthy, so I'll go Bengals. Yeah, I think eventually the Bengals offense clicks. I don't know if it's this week, but I think eventually, so I'm going Bengals. Oh my gosh, if I pick the Titans every week like I plan on doing, I'm just going to keep hurting myself, so give me the Titans. All right, game of the week, Dolphins at Bills. I'm going to pick the Bills every week. I don't think I've done this yet in the season in three weeks, but I'm not picking the Bills. I think until they can show me that they'll slow down the receivers or Allen just has an insane game, I think the Dolphins right now are the better team. The better team doesn't always win, and the Bills will always be my baby, so we're going Bills. I'm going to go with the Dolphins also. I thought I was going to be the only one here, but I just don't know how you stop that offense, and until someone figures it out, it might be the Bills, but until someone figures it out. What are the Patriots holding to? 27. Yeah, it's his mid to high 20s. So, the Bills just got to get to 30, and I think they can hold them to that. Bills have a better defense. Commanders at Eagles, I will stick with the Eagles. Yeah, Eagles. Eagles. Bucks at Saints, give me Jamis Winston and the Saints in the revenge game there for him. Baker's been playing, I mean, they lost to the Eagles, but most teams are going to lose to the Eagles. So, I think Baker's been playing pretty well. I'll take the Bucks. Yeah, give me the Eagles. You're messing with me, man. You can't have the Eagles twice. I can't take the Eagles twice. Bengals as well. Yeah, I'll go Saints. So, I believe this must be the second winless game you had here. Vikings at Panthers, right? I believe they're both 0-3. Sounds like Young's coming back, so give me the Vikings. Ooh. I might have won Panthers if Dalton was playing. He played good last week. Yeah, I'll also go with the Vikings. I think 3rd's going to be able to score enough points. Yeah, me too. Bears have to be happy with that, right? They had the Panthers first pick, so they hope they keep losing. Rams at Colts. I don't really know, I don't have a good read on this game. I think the Rams kind of overachieved a little bit with the way they were playing the first few weeks, but I also don't think the Colts are a 3-1 worthy team, so give me the Rams. This should be a fun one to pick with the spread. I don't really know. You know, I almost made this one of my spread picks, but then I didn't. I should have. I don't know either. I'm just going with the home team. I'll go with Colts, I guess. Yeah, give me the Rams. Just a quick check on the spread. We got Colts plus 1-1.5. But they are minus 1-1.5 in another book, so pretty much a pick them. Okay, that's tough. Steelers at Texans. CJ Stroud is starting to play better, but TJ Watt's on fire, so he's going to wreck the game. Give me the Steelers. Yeah, I think. Anytime a rookie plays like Belichick or Tomlin or any of those defenses, it's a whole different ball game, so I'm going to go Steelers. I'm with you. Stroud has been playing well. He has, and that's minus I think four offensive linemen they've been missing, so he could be something pretty decent. I know we were all down on him this year, so we could be wrong there. Raiders at Chargers. I'll go Chargers. They're finally finding their groove. Losing Mike Williams is definitely a significant loss, but I feel like they just got used to not playing with him. That's true. Over the past few years, I'm going Raiders. I still think that you can run on that defense, and Jacobs hasn't had a game yet, so this is going to be it. Next up, we've got Cardinals at 49ers. Last week when I saw you say Cardinals minus 11, I thought you were crazy, but you might have been on to something. I knew it before. Is this the week that you go Cardinals for real? I don't know. I'll take the 49ers. 49ers. 49ers. Not going to do it. Nope. Disappointed. Patriots at Cowboys. Cowboys got a bounce back, right? Even the Cowboys. Yeah, I think they went at home. Yeah, I agree. That was tough, man. I did. They really did. I know. Chiefs at Jets. I'll just keep it simple and just go with the Chiefs. Chiefs. Chiefs. Monday Night Football was actually a pretty good one. A tough one here. Seahawks at Giants. Another one I don't have a good read on. I like Dabol as a coach, but I think the Seahawks are the better team. So I'll take the better team here. Seahawks. I think Dabol and the Giants figure it out at home. If it was vice versa, I'd pick the Seahawks at home, but I'll go with the Giants. They could do a week one. Are we forgetting that Pete Carroll is the head coach for the Seahawks? I think they have the head coach advantage too. So I'll take the Seahawks. The better team, the better head coach. Dabol is a good offensive coach, but yeah. I guess you can't argue with that. He's won two Super Bowls. I know. I'm not going to argue that. Alright. That's week four. Now we'll move on to some spreads and we'll get a few guesses in here and then we'll stump the Rob. Alright. That's twice I jumped in before the music this week. I know, man. Well, last week we didn't have the music, so I forgot. Yep. That's alright. I dropped the ball last week. It's your turn this week. The first toilet bowl this week. Denver at Chicago. What you got? Guess the spread. Who's going first? I went first last week. Denver at Chicago. I'll say Chicago plus two and a half. Okay. Bears plus two and a half, right? Oh, man. I'll go Chicago plus three and a half. Ding, ding, ding. You got it. You got it, yeah. Right on. You guys are getting good. Let's see if this one gets you. Tampa Bay Baker Mayfield at the New Orleans Jamis Winstons. New Orleans minus four. You just jumping in and going first? I thought Anthony was going first. No, we alternate. Okay. Minus, what did you say? I said four. Minus four. I'll say Saints minus two. Minus two. Okay, do some math here. Ryan's closer. It's minus three and a half. Math is hard. Ryan is on fire, though. And last Cincinnati at Tennessee. I'll go Titans plus five and a half. That's disrespectful, you little shit. I'll go Titans plus two and a half. Spot on. Where's the bell? We have a bell, Ryan. Ring the bell. Are you serious? You're on fire. There it is. Whoo. Alright, that's 36 seconds long, I guess. Stop that cheering. Ryan goes three for three tonight. Almost nails the spreads completely. Minus .5 off was it for three picks. It's pretty good. Yeah, good for you. Good job. That Bills-Dolphin spread still hasn't really moved. If anything, it's moved towards the Bills. Which shocked me. I told you guys earlier this week the game opened Bills minus two and a half. I expected the public to hammer the Dolphins there. Which they might be and there might just be sharp money coming on the Bills, but it still surprised me. Because I did see some minus threes out there as well. I still think we should do a sharp versus sheep segment. We might have to at some point. That kind of is I guess the spread. We just name it that. We've got to have the statistics of what the sharp is betting, right? If the line's moving then we know what the sharp is betting so we can say go against the sharp. They're not sharp. I think a couple of sports books show the percentage of bets on each team. If you could just look at what the line was at open and then say this team is getting 75% of the bets, but the line's moving the other way then you know there's a ton of big money coming in on the other side. We should maybe look into that. Alright, the last few weeks we've been doing Who Am I? Which was myself reading off some facts or some statistics about a certain player. We changed it up so Ryan and I are both going to be doing one of those, but if you grew up when we did ESPN had a show called Stump the Schwab where your average sports fan would go on there or sports fans would go on there and try to compete against the Schwab who was just a sports brainiac, which is what Rob is when it comes to where players went to school no pressure and everything else involved with a player's bio so we are going to play Stump the Rob. You want me to go first Ryan or you? No bro I want to go first. Do it. Alright. What you got? So is Stump the Rob here? Yep I'll guess. This player I almost said the name dude that would have been just a total butt fumble for a good podcast. Alright. This player led the league in receiving touchdowns with 11 in 2019. That's not a lot. 2019. 2019. Am I getting first guess or are you? You get the first guess bro. You're the stumper. Travis Kelsey. I did say. Did I say receiver? You just said player. I thought I said receiver too. Well it's receiver. You want to try again? Devante Adams. No. Rob. I'm going to go Cooper Cup. No but that was a good guess. Okay. I guess Devante Adams was a good guess too Tony. I don't want to say it wasn't. So he was the number the fantasy number 9 wide receiver in PPR format in 2019. He had 65 of he went 65 of 116 so 65 catches on 116 targets for 11 touchdowns. It's gross. He led the league in touchdowns and finished 9th in scoring. And he caught only half of his balls? Yeah basically. It was like 55%. It's not great. It's not a lot of targets either. 116. That's a decent amount. I mean you have people getting 100 receptions. Pukunakua's on track for like 350 targets this year. I'll go 4 years ago. I'll go maybe it's a trick question. I'll go no he didn't have 11. Stefan Diggs whatever. I'll just move it along. I'm trying to wonder why you said that was a good guess when I said Cup so I'm thinking maybe Robert Woods. No but that was also a good guess. There's not a third receiver from that team right? Nope nope he was currently only 29 years old and he was drafted out of Northern Illinois. That doesn't help me. Northern Illinois Who are they? Who's in Northern Illinois? The crumbling Illini. I have no idea. Sorry I didn't look that information up. Just stand underneath the stars here and wait for some responses. Tony looks absolutely baffled right now. Usually I'm pretty good with the college. I don't know Northern Illinois. Just to get a guess I'll say 29 right now. It's not right. AJ Brown. Yeah I should play some back games in my head. In my heads. You're so stumped. I stumped the Rob. Can you move your camera a little bit so I can see the rest of the helmets there and get different teams. I'm just going to pass because I got Thielen. This is the last one. He's no longer in the league. So that was a trick question when you said he was 29. I assumed he was still in the league. Nope. He's out of the league and he played for the Lions. My brain is melting away. I was going to say golden tape but there's no way because he's older than 29. This guy is so bad now that everyone's forgotten about him. He led the league in touchdowns four years ago for the Lions and now he's out of the league. Damn this was a good one. If you know the answer if you knew the answer at all during this during this segment after I say it definitely tweet us at UltraFlexFP or at UltraFlexRob or UltraFlexSutton or UltraFlexRyan because I'd love to know if anyone got this. It's not Brandon LaFell. It's not Brandon LaFell. I got Tony. Nothing? I got nothing. I had no more hints. What's it start with? He also there's a saxophone player or something I think that sounds that has the same name as him. I think it was saxophone. I could be totally wrong on that. It's Kenny G. Kenny Galladay. Oh my God. Kenny Galladay guys. Now he's so bad now that he just he's gone from everyone's thoughts. Yeah. He didn't even cross my mind. Guys he was so yeah he was terrible. Even when he led the league in touchdowns. He was terrible. He went to the Giants for a while right? He did. Up until this year. That's a good one. For some reason when you said his name I was thinking of him as a giant. That popped into my head like he was a giant. When did he play for the Lions but he was on the Lions to start out. Yeah. Alright good one. I got one for you. I think it's probably a little bit easier. He's Megan's over there sneezing in the background. God bless you Megan. At 31 years old right now from 2017 to 2021 he had five straight years of 100 receptions and 1,000 yards receiving. We're going for receivers in all these. So five straight years of 1,000 yards from what years? 2017 to 2021. And what was the first thing you said? He's 31. He's 31 still in the league. And he's a receiver? Yep. DeAndre Hopkins. No good guess. Adam Phelan. Nope. He was drafted in the third round out of the University of California. Bro, Rob's got me on the colleges. I don't know any of the colleges. California. The University of California. I'm trying to think of who their quarterback is. Trick hint here. He's played for two teams. Kind of. Kind of. Bro, I'm going to pass. It sounds like he'd be like, oh he played for the Redskins and the Washington football team. But it is something like that. Oh, so it was the Rams and the Panthers. You said third round out of California. Keenen Allen didn't go there, right? No. It is Keenen Allen. It is Keenen Allen. Oh, he did. Like he didn't go to Cal. My next hint was going to be that he's leading the league in receptions at the moment. When you catch 20 balls in a week, that'll do it. Yeah. So, yeah. Both Stump the Robs were good. Good job, Wheeler. Keenen Galladay was definitely a good one. Good job, Wheeler. So, yeah, I got all my... Dude, I know. You said Brandon LaFell. I was like, are you freaking kidding me right now? I feel like he had a season where he had like 10 touchdowns so I'm going to have to check that. Wow. I got in, Meltaway, Forever, the Daydream, whatever, and Looking In. Did you guys get all your songs in? I did. You were supposed to have four. So you got all four. Okay. Yeah, I got all mine in. Cool. Awesome. Well, that is it for this week. I just want to say Brandon LaFell had 31 career touchdowns. Wow. That's pretty good. He played for 10 years. Seven was his highest in the season, but... As Ryan said, if you were able to get any of the Stump the Robs, let us know. There's a massive game this week for the Bills and the Dolphins. Hopefully that goes well and we'll see you guys next week. And the Titans, but we can just forget about that. It's not massive. They're one more loss away from just getting banished. Yeah, man. Go Titans. Go Bills. What's up, UltraFlexers? Thank you for listening to our show. We appreciate all of you for your support. If you would like to support us even more, we have a website. He's joining Fox's NFL kickoff, which is at 11 a .m. Eastern every Sunday little pregame action Julian Edelman Julian, how's it going? Going well, how are you doing? I'm doing well. I'm doing very well cuz football is here. So it was back Thank God is fully back. I Mean, I wish I wish the trends Kelsey wasn't hurt because I feel like that takes a little bit away from the opening game But it is what it is If you look at it though over the last However, many years the Kansas City Chiefs have been on this run. They've had relatively pretty decent help Throughout their whole thing. I mean they left they lost the left tackle in the Super Bowl That's why they lost against, you know, Brady they couldn't protect Patrick Mahomes but it's it's getting to that time in their Era it where gets hard, you know being a guy that's been on one of those teams a dynasty. They're not there quite yet but uh You know, they're well on their way if they could stay healthy and you would know better than anyone about dynasty So when would you say they're there? How many would they have to win before you say they're a dynasty everyone knows it's three Okay, I don't know what's going on. Everyone keeps on talking like oh This is you you into no, it doesn't matter if you get to the Super Bowl We went to eight straight AFC championships or something like that. Like you got to win three to get to be in Cowboys previous Patriots Niners Steelers It's not two. It's not two So tell me I want to get into your Fox gig and transitioning to meeting that since we're on it It's a good topic because I'm just curious because one of the things I'm looking at is someone who's scouting Over -unders to bet and and you know who's gonna win the AFC and stuff like that The I Motivation shouldn't say the motivation. I mean, I think the motivation is there even if you win But is it difficult or how difficult is it after winning two like they've won? It's very difficult To get geared up every Sunday, you know people don't realize How hard it is once you go out win a Super Bowl Okay, now they have two that when you win that first one you become a target everyone circles you on the schedule You win another one now everyone circling now now Divisions and conferences are designing their teams to beat you. So it gets harder and harder and as an individual player You know Your motivation you have to pull what what's motivating you because natural human instinct you're like You know, we got this we're good and then you know something happens you have injuries here an injury They're a player doesn't sign back because no two teams are the same. It's a new team every year. So it's very hard mentally To keep it going, you know And you have and they have a leader in Patrick Mahomes that can do that We had Tom Brady Tom Brady was always always on he was like he was always motivated So that gives you hope for the Kansas City Chiefs because they have such a great player and Patrick Mahomes who's their leader You know their best player is is their quarterback is their leader and the way he is is huge. Do you think? the intensity to beat the Chiefs to throne the Chiefs is Similar to what you guys experience and I ask you from this standpoint and I hope you don't take offense to this But I feel like I feel like the Chiefs are not hated in any way I'd feel like no one dislikes Mahomes No one dislikes Andy Reid you guys and I think it was mainly because of your success But there were people who didn't like Tom for whatever reason there was the ridiculousness with the flake eight the stupidest thing ever people didn't like Belichick, maybe You guys I don't think we're like Completely beloved whereas KC seems like I don't know who maybe people are sick of Travis Kelsey a little bit Like our teams you think is amped up to beat the Chiefs as they were you guys I Think the games changed the player has changed Just as an overall, I mean we look at games nowadays you got guys over here You know dapping up helping guys back back when we were playing the Jets when I first got in the league Bart Scott was mother -effing Billy O 'Brien on the sideline guys were fighting before, you know, it's just it's kind of changed And it could be for good or could be for bad. That's for weather for everyone else to determine But and also, you know, the Kansas City Chiefs that the Patriots were on it for 20 years Okay, like when I got there they already had three Super Bowls and they were on a little drought, you know But they were still winning, you know, they went 7 16 and oh they you know 14 win seasons they were still putting out big winning seasons for a long a longer time and You know the Chiefs just haven't been there I'm so I'm sure the Chiefs keep on doing well that people are gonna start hating them too, you know, yeah. Yeah The I want to get into some other stuff about the Patriots and and Belichick and Brady and but let's talk about you going to Fox you did inside the NFL. I enjoyed you on there I wrote that a couple times for SI. Now. You're gonna be on the Fox NFL kickoff show. It's remarkable I don't know if you've seen it Maybe you just know it off the top of your head because you friends with all these people but it is remarkable how every patriot is in media now is on TV, you know, you've got the McCordy's Gronk is part of the Fox family. Everyone knows about the Brady situation McGinnis the TV Bruschi It's like if you're on you were part of our Patriot team good love winners. Yeah people love winners Yeah, and they hate them so, you know you get a little bit of both They're either gonna love your hate you but they're gonna watch you It's like you had no choice but to go into TV basically after after all it's it's I don't know it's uh, You know when you play for an organization like New England and You've had the success that we had over the years that we played, you know It opens up a lot of doors and it's plain and simple. That's that's really what it is The the sacrifice and the efforts that we put into our career helped us after our career and a lot of guys you know, they have that hard work mentality that still want to stay in the game, but may not want to be coaches and And that's what media is, you know, that's what I feel. You know, I get my football fix by Going into a pre -production meeting and I haven't done it with Mike Vick or Charles Woodson or Chris and Thomas or Peter Shrager But you get your football locker room kind of vibe when you do those like when I was on inside the NFL I'm sitting there talking with Phil Simms Patrick, uh, you know, Brandon Marshall Michael Irving, Ray Lewis, James Brown and you have these These meetings where you just get to sit and talk football It's before you go on the lights are shining but you sit and you're talking stories You're breaking football down with people that play football So, I think that's a huge probably reason about it and you know, it's not you know We're used to putting in these crazy hours 14 -hour days Seven days a week don't get this year family and media, you know, like you got to do your homework You got to you got to watch all the games, but you know, we can still have a life outside of it, you know These guys are going coach. I mean people always ask me. Why aren't you in coaching and I go You know, I did my time Like I put my my 12 13 14 hour days in and when I would leave work I would see coaches families in the parking lot Seeing the coaches before they would go to bed because they still had another three hours. I ain't doing that Yeah, you know and then if you go somewhere else where it's not like that Then I'm mentally all messed up because well, there's some people that are doing it, you know So it's just I like I'm happy or I'm mad. I'm excited to go out and entertain and talk my knowledge When you were playing and you're playing days towards the end of your career Did you think you would get into TV or did you not think about it while you were playing? I Didn't necessarily think I'd become an analyst and do what I'm doing right now I always enjoyed creating content You know whether it was our YouTube videos our Instagram videos and all the content we build on J around je11 You know that was booming with with the Patriot nation that would always support, you know I always I found a niche in that and and I enjoyed that process of creating content going in and sitting in a you know in a editing room and and Filming up all this stuff and thinking it's gonna be terrible and then cutting it down and then you know having all your other team Because there's a team of people, you know That put put the work in to to get this good content out and I enjoyed it So I didn't know it was gonna be to the extent of what I'm doing right now but I knew you know, I was comfortable in front of a camera and you know, I know I faced for radio, but Thank God I won a lot of games Had it and just tell me were were there other networks like in the running to get your services Was it just Fox like I'd end up at Fox why Fox? Tell me a little bit about joining I want to say any other names there were, you know There was another network that was involved and I sat down and I thought Fox would be perfect You know, I got a couple teammates there with Gronk Brady You know, I'm really excited to get to hang out with you know Charles Woodson and in talk football with Mike Vick and Chris Thompson Peter Schrager and you know Fox is like a If you know the story behind Fox, I mean they were created as This little small sport network with John Madden.

And I mentioned you're gonna be working with Sean McDonough this year Sean I'm a big fan of Sean. I've had him on this podcast. We we had some fun with his famous voice cracks Tell me about working with you know, Sean who's done this for so long has done every sport He's done World Series. He's done the NFL obviously Icon on college football tell me about the season going into it with Sean McDonough on ESPN. Well, I'm really excited I think Sean is just phenomenal. I mean, it's just a complete legend and in some ways, you know, I When you're playing or when you're watching as a fan at least for me, I was almost oblivious to the To the names and the and the faces that were on television Of course, I grew up with you know, watching NFL football as a diehard cowboy fan So I was you know Pat summer all and and listen al Michaels and and all the others that have kind of graced the television screen but I I recognized voices before I recognized names and as soon as I became more aware of this side of The game broadcast as soon as I heard Sean McDonough's like, oh my gosh, I've been listening in my whole life To be able to I've only done one game with him and it was the national championship game and we did the radio call 2021 would have been the year and it was Alabama against Ohio State and I was nervous wreck I mean, I'm going and working with a guy that I've been listening to for 20 years 25 years knowingly And I'm like this guy's a legend I just want to get out of his way like I just don't want to mess this up because I've aspirations maybe one day down the road working with him and He couldn't have been more gracious. He couldn't have been more understanding. I was a little anxious I'd never been on a call for a game of that magnitude Either as far as the radio is concerned, but he was amazing and I'm just so grateful to to him and him Welcoming on to the team and they've been together for a long time and look Todd Blackledge. I've said this For a long time. I think he's the best the best guy doing what we do. I think he's just amazing and I've always looked up to him. I've always really admired how he calls the game and I've always appreciated very much all the things that that he kind of Interjects into the game and and just the perspective that he brings so replacing him is as an impossible feat But I'm gonna do the very best that I possibly can It's a big promotion because the number two team which is which is you and Sean gets to call one of the playoff games Around New Year's when that takes place On TV, so it's a big assignment you guys I should have mentioned at the top You have North Carolina South Carolina for week one and your first game together for the season We talked about Sean you're coming off a season where you work with Joe Tess who also in college football circles is one of those guys that viewers and fans Are big big fans of because of his exciting ways Tell me, you know now that you're moving on here. What was like working with Joe Tessitore in the past Well, I've been really lucky The Joe and and Dave Pash who I was with prior to that are two of my best friends Dave Pash is like my older brother. Like I didn't know anything about anything As it comes to calling a game if not for Dave Pash and Brian Ryder I would not at all ever be in a position to have found any level of success in this profession But they really showed me the ropes and took me under their wing and then three years ago I was fortunate to to be aligned with Joe and What I love so much about Joe is the passion and energy that he calls the game with he lives that Way all the time and the guys bouncing off the walls in the booth in the pregame Hitting me talking to three times a day on Monday Tuesday Wednesday and our week leading up as far as prep is concerned like he consumes college football 24 -7 365 I mean every podcast I do he's listening has comments has critiques has Has his own opinions that he wants to weigh in him. He is just an all -knowing consumer So it was a blast to work with him and we've developed such a close relationship I Joe love and I love Dave and and I love Scotty Matthews our producer last year who is just an amazing amazing person and Kim Belton who worked with us a few years back as Well, so I've been really really lucky to be around people that taught me to do it the way I think is the right way Everyone's got their own way of preparing for a game Everyone has their own way of calling a game and when to when to speak when to lay out But I've been very fortunate to been surrounded by very talented people that have helped me understand the dynamic of How to present a game and I've had Drake great truck support as well to kind of help me Figure out the best way to plan a review or a replay sequence or maybe do some art or some Telestrations things of that nature. So whether it's Joe or the or the truck the last few years with Scotty and Jeff for Dave and Ryder and Ryder's of course can be doing some Monday Night Football games now. It's a super pump for him I've just been very very lucky and and very very fortunate. I think Dave Pash is the most underrated play -by -play guy in He's phenomenal. He's And I love hearing that Joe Tess is Wacky, even when the mics are off before a game. I love hearing that that you know, it's the same energy Let me get I just want to be clear about something because I've messed up with math before on this podcast I I once called Roman Reigns 43 when he was 33, which I still saw what you're 35 I am yes, and you've been doing games for nine years This is year eight. Yes, you're gonna see I told you I would mess it up Okay, I was pretty close to be on I've said seven. So I've messed it up. You're not wrong It's my own once you get going. Yeah, my ultimate point is you started doing TV at 27, which is pretty young I think well, what do you remember back when I mean when you started out? How raw were you? How green were you? Did it take you a long time to get I mean because I think 27 is pretty Young to be doing TV. Well, it's it's really young when your NFL career is a dud But I feel like I didn't play as long in the league as I would have liked if I could have started at 33 after 10 years in the show, I would have been perfectly okay with that as well But I knew very quickly when I was wrapping things up in the league I probably could have grinded out a couple more perhaps But I was kind of looking at through the prism of I can start my next life now With the launch of the SEC Network and be aligned With a company at ESPN that I knew would cultivate and help us figure out how to do television It was the right time to go. I was still under contract with the Bengals when I agreed in principle with ESPN and Inevitably was in studio at first which I thought was a really good way to kind of get my feet wet and Understand just kind of the nuance of television lingo how to read a rundown how to Do the telestrator in the studio and more of a controlled setting? So if we busted something, it's like well, let's re rack it Let's go. Yeah, that was Comforting and and figuring out your cadence and your tone the following year Called a game that year but it was Lamar against Texas A &M a very forgettable game Jimmy if you didn't watch that one I'm not sure how you missed it. Well, I'm a better so I'm sure the line was about 50 So that'll that's all I need to know if it was that match I think you could have laid the points comfortably and come away a winner in that one. It got a little sideways Then the following year kind of had the perfect blend of studio and game by doing the SEC nation show With Joe Tess I might add so already developed a bit of a rapport with him and Kind of got to feel the energy of the crowd and the fact that yes, it's structured to an extent But you also kind of have to play to the audience some a little bit like doing a game It was almost the perfect blend and then in 2016 after a couple of games that I did in 2015 That's when I was given my first booth Alongside Dave Pash and I remember right out of the gate. Our first game was Houston and Oklahoma It was like number 11 against number four and I was a nervous wreck I mean just to complete I'm like, I'm gonna if I screw this up It's the last year my deal like I'll just be out and you know, go do whatever it is I need to do so I was a wreck and was very nervous. How long did it take you to get comfortable? Last year, maybe yeah, really For real I have I have butterflies before the game that are very comparable to when I played Still get them will always get them probably and I hope I do because that's part of what I love so much about doing this Job is that it is as close to being in the action as close to being a coach as close to being a player is any other professions In the industry, so I really enjoy it, but it probably took me. I was remarkably over prepared as Far as my week of prep is concerned all -consuming Totally dialed in I knew everything you need to know about the backup snapper you know to the point where it's like this is just I'm getting 2 % of my pregame prep into the show and it was almost it weighed me down some and I was trying to force things in so I Scaled back a lot over the course of a couple years to the point where I could be more efficient with my preparation Understand the things that I write down and notes that I take what's going to make air what might not what will benefit and allow? Me to have strong opinions on the air, even though it it might not necessarily come out exactly as I write it down I'll have a better fundamental understanding of what this team does and why they do it so I would say as far as my week of prep is concerned took me three years probably and then to get Really really comfortable and just having my voice and knowing when to go when to lay out when to allow the crowd to speak on Your behalf when to allow the players to speak on your behalf and to let my play -by -play guy really run with it I would say probably the last three years when I really started to hit a groove.

What's Up With the Tom Brady Deal? Michele Tafoya Weighs In
"What's up with the Tom Brady deal this year? I mean, he takes two weeks off. I mean, everybody's saying that gisele told him he had to spend time with the kids. I mean, I mean, is this just Tom being Tom? Well, it depends on what which Tom we're talking about. Tom is an incredible competitor. But, you know, over the years, we would ask him, and we covered the Patriots a ton. And we have what we call production meetings. A couple of days before the game or the night before the game depending on if the team was home or on the road, we'd sit out Chris and I are producer director. We'd sit in a room with Bill Belichick for a while, and Tom Brady for a while, then, you know, maybe a defensive player for a while, and you get this opportunity to really ask your own questions to make your broadcast unique. And just about every year for the past 5 years, we'd say, so Tom, someone would say, what do you think? How much longer? And he always bring up his family and his wife, and you know, that his wife really wanted him to spend more time. I don't think that was any secret. It was out there, you know, look, he's 45 now. And she's been holding down the fort. Now, we can all accept that they've probably got a lot of help at home. But who knows? I mean, look, she's a very involved mom. I've seen it when she brings the kids to the Super Bowl. Having said that, this whole time you're saying, okay, so Tom, when are you going to wrap it up here when did we get it surprised me? It didn't surprise me that Tom retired. It shocked me that he went back. It shocked me because I thought once he made the decision, that was a done deal and there was no way he was going to turn his back on that decision. So I was really surprised that he decided to go back and my hunches, maybe his wife was too, and look, there are a lot of rumors out there fight that seems to be the consensus,

"But look, a couple of things. Number one, former Belichick assistants kind of do a good job against the Patriots. I mean, even map Patricia beat their ass in Detroit, all right? Me and Jeannie used to own the Patriots like with the browns and the jets somewhat. You know, Brian Flores, hello, Brian Flores did a good job against the page. And the other thing was, do you remember when Josh McDaniels was coached with the Broncos? Yes, you know, it was a tough tenure ultimately. But do you remember when he played the Patriots? His first season? He beat the Patriots in overtime with Kyle Orton at quarterback. So let's dial it back a little bit. Let's not guarantee a victory for the Patriots in that game, respect that Josh McDaniels is a good coach. It might have learned something in the 13 years since he's been a head coach in this league. And what they've done with that roster and gotten guys like Davante Adams, you know, so let's dial that back a little bit and let's see how things go because I think that's going to be quite the game between those two teams. Yeah, and I expect to be there lives and some about a 45 minute flight away. So there you go. I can't wait for that. He's Greg am Nick. We got a run, hopefully you enjoyed this edition of the Greg bedard patriots podcast with Nick cattles. We'll be back next week. Maybe one, maybe two episodes, depending on practice schedule, everybody be good, be safe, be healthy. And again, we'll talk to you next week, go Celtics and can the Red Sox play better..

"He doesn't say anything like that ever. So, finally, the stuff that we talked about a year ago about Joshua possibly being an impact player. It looks like it's going to come to fruition and thank goodness. I mean, it's about time, and you could see an a stint last year that, you know, especially when it came to just rushing the passer, he was very impactful in the snaps that he got. And you know, they're looking for a guy they didn't, they didn't draft a guy like, say, Jermaine Johnson, that they could have to put out there. They didn't draft anybody at the edge. And so what you have left are Joshua and Ronnie Perkins. He also somewhat talked up Ronnie Perkins, but it wasn't nearly what he said about Joshua. So to me, I got excited. I heard Steve Belichick say that. And I think that this is great. That they have, and this is where he should be. He should be the starting edge player opposite Matthew judon. He should plan all the downs. He's that type of player. He has that type of speed. He has young legs. He has explosive ability, just trust him. Let him play and let him screw up if he needs to. He will learn. He's a smart guy, and let's go forward and see what that looks like. Yeah, I gave the silver linings during our draft podcast because I was so tired of just the nonstop hate and criticism of everything, not to say that the Patriots hit it out of the park. But as far as how we initially feel, we'll ultimately understand what they did in two or three years. But one of the main takeaways for me and as I said it, you know, if you wanted this team to be faster on defense, if you wanted this team to be fast overall, especially on offense, if you wanted Belichick to finally give these young guys the opportunity, that's what it's all about. You know, when you look at the draft, this is giving uche. This is giving Perkins. This is giving maybe and for any Jennings. It's giving those guys an opportunity to make a difference. I'm all for it. Let's see what uche has. He has absolutely shown flashes. He's a second round pick. He's a talented guy. Give him a shot, give him this opportunity. And if he hits, then you've got him and judon on each end, which is fine by me. Also some good stuff about camera grown yesterday and the day before, correct. Yes, Steve talked about him the other day, but I was just looking at my coat 'cause I asked Gerard Mayo about McGraw yesterday. And.

"There's too many good players in that lineup and they start. They often start to hit when it starts to get warm. And by the way, Nick, it's supposed to be 97° here on Saturday. I kid you not. It's been, it was like I had the stove on last week, and now it's gonna be 97°. I'm sure you miss it. It's going to be, it's going to be a hundred here in Sacramento today, a hundred. So yeah, we're kind of going through it. But out here, I've said this because you brought up the weather I brought the temperature today. I'm not going to I'm not going to throw the weather in New England's face. I love you New England. I spent more than 30 years in Rhode Island in Massachusetts combined. I love you. I have no complaints out here in California, weather wise. All right, let's get into the Patriots. He's Greg beador and I'm Nick cattle. Of course, Greg bed patriots podcast Whitney cattle's brought to you by a bet online dot AG. All right, so the talk this week, Greg has to do with the assistant coaches. First and foremost, the assistance talked to the media back to back days, two days in a row, a double shot for you guys. Why do you think that is? I'll tell you why that is. Because look, if you were waiting for Belichick to show that he's still on top of his game that he can find loopholes and things like that, you know, at 70 that he still on the ball, this was it, because someone at one patriot pace read the NFL media access rules and realized it mandates that assistance had to be available twice in the off season, okay? The rules say nothing about when they have to be made available. I mean, most teams say, all right, let's do it before starts are very early and let's do it after, you know, towards the end, you know, to let's bookend it. Let's just make them available twice. But the NFL rules does not mandate when that needs to happen. So wouldn't you know it? Someone with the Patriots said, well, why don't we just do it on back to back days, and get it over with, especially when we haven't really done anything on the field in our coaches, don't really know anything. Let's just do it then. And that's exactly what happened. That the Patriots made their assistance available on back to back days. They are now done with off season access for assistant coaches all in one shot..

"Myers was my second down. He could not block in this game. He could not hand a hold up physically. I think that's why part of the reason why they went in to kill Harry and those formations. And then my third down, this will be a little bit of surprise, but Matthew judon, you know, the bill's two biggest plays, there was a run that he gave up the edge on and that also Josh Allen's big scramble. You know, Kyle van noy was perfect on the other side of the field against all that stuff. Matthew judon was not. It could have cost the Patriots. Luckily, it didn't. He did have, did he have a sack? I think, yeah, he did have a sack, but that was a coverage sack, you know, he wasn't terrible, but this is now two weeks in a row where I don't think judon has been great, but still not bad or anything like that. Yeah, the Alan big run, he just got way too far down the field. And just let Alan shoot straight up and that was not ideal. The Boston sports general dot com member question of the day, check him out of BSG, 39.99 on their annual plan, top notch analysis of all the Boston pro sports. We won't talk about that as Celtics lost last night. You also, if you're a patch junkie, which you are listening to this pod, membership at BSA gives you access to a ton of video analysis that Greg does on the coach's film and direct access to him in weekly chats. Greg, does this approach that we saw on Monday night, say anything to you about Mac Jones? Not really. I'm not ready to say that. You know, we don't know what happened in practice this week, Mac Jones could have had a bad practice and they said, you know what, we're not throwing it all in this conditions. But I really, I don't think that's it. I just think this was Bill Belichick just managing the game. And I think he thought the bills can never match up with us as long as we execute in the running game well enough. They're never going to be able to match up. Josh Allen is going to make a mistake. We don't think if they have to drive the field or at least half the field in these conditions, we don't think they're going to be able to do that. That was largely correct outside of the Nikhil Harry moff. And they just decided to manage the game. I don't think it would have been a good idea for Mac to pass in this weather. Sometimes he's challenged with his arm strength on a day like that. I mean, he throws a good spiral, but you also have a lot of heat on the ball. I just thought it was a wise decision. I'm not ready to say any of that stuff. And we'll defer we'll continue to kick the can down the road on whether Mac Jones is good in the cold weather. Again, I don't have an opinion on that. I'm waiting to see. And I will just kick it down the road till we'll see. Well, Greg's going to kick me down the road. I'm going to be out the next couple of weeks because I have to move. I'll have all my stuff packed in storage..

Greg, let's start here. In the preview, you talked about how the bills were constructed to beat the Patriots except for four swing spots. So let's circle back to that. And let's break down each of those swing spots and see how buffalo did. We begin with the crying whining, Sean McDermott. Your thoughts on McDermott, how he handled the game and I'm sure you have thoughts on how he handled the postgame as well. Yeah, I thought that it was a TKO for Bill Belichick in this realm. And this was the type of game and look. When we didn't talk about it at the time, but I hope everybody understands that I said that the bills outside of these four spots were perfectly constructed to beat the Patriots under normal weather conditions. Not in tropical storms actually was worse than I've covered games in tropical storms. That game, and I actually got to go back and look at it. That game reminded me, the only other comparable game that I've covered. And of course, I started covering the Patriots in 2010, was 2007, Brett Favre's final season in Green Bay. They went to Chicago and that wind was worse outside the stadium going into soldier field than it was. And it was sunny, and it was cold and I remember Brett Favre after the game, you know, Bret Favre, Iron Man, all weather hero saying, I'm not gonna lie. It was cold as hell. And I gotta go back and look at the stats because I remember I was so mad at Mike McCarthy that day because he just kept like shotgun spread. He was throwing the ball in that weather. And I think they ended up losing to Kyle Orton in the bears that game. The year that they went to the NFC championship game and it just shows you how coaching matters. And it mattered huge on Monday night that Bill Belichick knew before anything even started exactly what kind of game it was going to be, how he was going to have.

"I don't want to watch games every single week that are 500 passing yards. Why would you want that? That's insane to me. It's insane to me that you wouldn't watch what the offensive line and the rest of the team did blocking last night. It's insane to me that you wouldn't see what Adrian Phillips and JC Jackson were doing last night. It's insane to me that you would watch that and not enjoy it as a football fan. And speaking of someone who obviously did not enjoy football on Monday night. Shall we? Sean McDermott had a few things to say in response to Belichick running the ball down his throat all game. I'm going to read you as direct quotes. I got this from Ness and dot com. So he was asked about the game plan and all that stuff. And this is what he said. Let's not give more credit than we need to give credit to Bill Belichick on this one. Whether it was Bill or anybody else, they beat us, right? But you sit here and you tell me when we start with an average starting field position of the 40 yard line and he starts with the 23 yard line. I'm rounding up in both cases and we were one for four in the red zone and they were over one in the red zone. You give me that ahead of time, I'd say I like my chances. I like my chances. I don't think with all due respect, it's not a Bill Belichick type thing. It's what are you going to do with the opportunities you got? We turn the ball over on the plus 30 something yard line, sloppy football. I'm very comfortable in that situation. So before I get into my own breakdown of what that really means, I have to give at coach vast props for this. He said it better than I ever could. Don't give the other head coach too much credit, says the guy who got jumbo G lead shoved up his ass for four quarters. Well said, let's elaborate. You can turn to the analytics all you want after a game analytics aren't for after the game. Therefore, before it, dude, you had all those chances in the red zone and you didn't score. Once again, you're going up against a team who regularly does that. They regularly let you get into the red zone and then stop you from scoring. This is a defense that has historically done that. So I don't know why you like your chances, but let's move on. Are you not aware that there's a defense on the other side of the ball? Are you not aware of that? The other team wasn't getting in the red zone because they didn't need to. They just needed to run the ball long enough and far enough to get Nick folk to kick the field goal and keep your team from being able to get out there and fail the pass. That's all they needed to do. So don't do analytics ball placement bullshit after the game when the reality is your game plan sucked. Everybody on the planet knows that running the ball and maintaining possession when you have a lead is the best way to keep the fucking lead..

"I mean at times wasn't super impressed with Bill Belichick, not in the ways that we were. She says, dude, everyone is bending over backwards to praise Bill Belichick today. Noting his obvious in season long conservative handling of his rookie QB is not an indictment of Mac Jones. Y'all are sensitive as hell, which I agree. And I don't, I'm not worried about it being an indictment of Mac Jones. She says, I thought New England was too conservative with how they handled Jones earlier in the season. And people would be making that point today if the bills had scored on one of the two times they made it into the red zone in the fourth quarter. Again, they didn't score on one of the two times that they made it into the red zone in the fourth quarter because they went up against Bill Belichick's elite defense. They leave defense that he's built all season long to stand up to teams like this in situations like this to stop them from scoring. This is a defense that's always been an excellent scoring defense. This is what they do. This isn't even new to this year. Doing that if they had scored things would be different. They did in score. And they didn't not score against a team that just got lucky a few defensive plays. We haven't seen this was a team going into the game that Sean McDermott and the bills knew was going to be difficult to score on. It's not a fluke. You don't get to do that. And in a less polite way, skip Bayless made his own accusations about Bill Belichick's maybe luck in this situation. Again, skip a colleague of mine at Fox Sports, but here's what he said. When I saw last night was an overrated Belichick getting real cute and getting away with it because Josh Allen is not that guy. So here's two people from two different ends of the NFL analyst spectrum both agreeing that this was overrating Belichick in this situation. So let's talk about exactly what got Bill Belichick to the point that he could comfortably only ask his rookie quarterback to throw three times in extreme wind and win a game. What we saw from Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels was exactly the reason they've been so.

"BSG, the promo code up to 200% in bonuses for you. Patriots minor 7 at home against the jets. What are you thinking Greg on this one? Well, I mean, did you say it's 7 or 7 and a half? I saw really matters. Yeah, I saw 7. It's 7 and a half now. I don't know. Then 40 minutes moved a half a point. Okay. I don't know who looks at this patriots team and feels like they should be a touchdown favorite over anybody anywhere at this point. So to me, that's a really large line. And I don't know if I really feel a sense of urgency from the Patriots yet in terms of like all right, well they're like, well, we have to put it together. I think the Patriots win, I don't think they cover the spread in this one. I'm laying the points. I think this is the week it clicks a little bit. I think this is the week Mac Jones gets cooking. I think the defense plays better and some of the things I heard in the postgame on Sunday, I really liked from the players like McCourty. And I think it's time where Belichick kind of looks at this and goes, okay, you know, we're two and four. Again, this is the make or break stretch. I just feel like they're gonna play a good game on Sunday. And so I'll lay the points, it is a lot of points. I'll take the risk. I think they start clicking in a few days at Gillette. As what's up with Joshua, this was supposed to be a breakthrough year for him looked great in camp, but a complete no show so far. Please tell me this is scheme or a minor injury thing and not Zack sudfeld two. Training camp hero to in season zero. Davey, how dare you mention Nate sudfeld and Josh uche in the same sentence? To your question, I think we brought it up here on the podcast from time to time. One of my triggers with the season so far, Nick is not playing a guy like Joshua. And I think it's simply because he might be a little bit weak on the run or might make some mistakes and Bill Belichick wants to play the guys that he's comfortable with. And that's people like Kyle van noy and Dante Hightower, Fenway on the injury list with a groin thing, high towers..

"With the basics. Let's start with that. Let's start with, I would love to see them go through one game where they take care of the football and they get their substitutions right, the defensive coordinators don't make stupid coverage calls and long yardage situations. Bill goes for smartly in some fourth down situations. And manages the game a little bit better. You know, either, you know, going into halftime coming out of halftime, fourth downs and things like that. And you know, I feel okay, but, you know, I think this, I'm not ready to like give them the jets game. You know, that's for damn sure. I mean, the jets are a little, they're a little frisky, then when we saw them last time, they beat the Titans two weeks ago, 27, 24. They lost to the falcons 27 20 last week. Did some nice things in the running game. I think they're making a little bit of progress. They're still struggling on defense, but I like the way that they play for Robert sala so you know, look, they have to have to get on the right track. They have to they just need to start with one really good played 60 minutes. I mean, even Belichick, let me say, didn't he say something about like they played 30 minutes of good football or something like that. Let's try to up that percentage. And then we could start talking about the future of this team. There's opportunity there. I will say that. I mean, I think the jets are more than beatable. Chargers at LA is going to be really tough with Herbert. But they're not all that good. Yeah, they're not. They're good, but you know, if you corral Herbert, they have trouble, plus the Patriots blew their ass out last year there. Yeah, at Carolina, you know, sand Donald, he has declined the last three weeks without CMC, CMC, who knows if he's gonna be healthy..

"I think that Brady wanted Super Bowl title last year in part because of all the things that he learned with Belichick. I'm not saying it's that's the only reason because I still think Tom Brady was going to be great in any event. I just don't think he would be 7 times Super Bowl winner. The way I look at it and like I said, I don't really have a dog in this fight is that when I've always watched the Patriots whether it was 2008 with Matt cassel and yes, they went 11 and 5, they didn't make the playoffs. They didn't really beat anybody good that season. I understand that. You know, I thought that was very successful. Jimmy Garoppolo slash Jacoby Brissette. Yep. Three and one against good teams and I saw, you know, flawless execution and really good play and good game plans and all that. And so I've always been impressed when Brady wasn't there. They've been successful. And I think that Mac Jones, I think, first of all, it's way better than Matt castle. Was. And, you know, I do think I think what you talk about in terms of the overall operation. And I also, you know, without Brady continuing on, you know, I chalk up, you know, 2020 COVID Cam Newton, all that stuff. I can't, I can't say that was representative of anything. I can't. I just. The whole season looks completely different than any other season for a variety of reasons. And you could point to the two and four start this year and say, it's the same thing. And I have certainly, you know, said that about the team in general. But and that goes to your point is that I think it's the team in general. I think it's we all know that the personnel failings that they had like the previous about 5 years in terms of drafting and other decisions. The effect that's had. The coaching staff, the effect that's had. It's obvious when you watch them. They're not the same operation. So I agree with you. I think it's, I think it's hard to say that, you know, Belichick is definitely losing it. There are certainly things that you could say that there is evidence that that is happening. In terms of, look, he's not the same guy anymore. We all know that. You can watch the way he does in training camp and watch when he shows up from Nantucket for that. It's all different. You know, and you could say like Linda as an influence or whatever..

"Right by Bill Belichick. In what I mean by that is always starting to see the evolution of football get ahead of Bill Belichick the head coach. I think you can discuss both of those things and neither are quote unquote too early. The Tom Brady part to me, I just don't buy it. It's lazy analysis. People just continue to do this like, oh, well, with Tom Brady, look at his record and without Tom Brady, look at his record and go back to Cleveland. He's a different coach than he was in Cleveland. And, you know, a lot of people will tell you what happened in Cleveland wasn't all on Bill either. Hey, I don't know. I wasn't inside Cleveland's facility. I don't know what's going on there. I know the special that was done on the NFL network, Bobby blah. But if you look at this team, if you're going to say that it was because Brady's gone, the team is struggling. You know, last year I would buy that a little bit more because cam wasn't good. Like this year to me, it's not necessarily the offense. It's the decision making that is questionable. And even when Brady was in New England, Belichick was a really good decision maker. Was he perfect? Of course not. He had the stupid drop punt thing against Philadelphia. He did plenty of things that people second guest. He didn't do it consistently as much as he's done it the past year plus. But I think it's the decision making that has people wondering. And I think when you look at the time when Brady was here, we didn't have as many of these and maybe it's because they were out in front more often with Brady. But I know there were a lot of games. You know, there were a lot of tight games with Brady as quarterback, where we would look back and say, man, what Bill did in that third quarter? What Bill did in that fourth quarter? That decision that he made, you know, late in the game, how the defense played the approach that they had. You know, I mean, it's kind of weird when you look back to Tampa just a couple of weeks ago, and it was rather obvious that that defensive game plan was perfect against Brady. Now, was it perfectly executed? I don't know, probably not..

"Not gonna spend a ton of time on this. Obviously, a couple of quick hits. David culley seems like he's way underwater already, which shouldn't surprise people. They are not very good defensively, Greg. Nick casario is trying to rebuild this roster on the fly. They've got the Desean Watson headache, which I think they've completely mismanaged. And so now, without Tyrod Taylor, being available, which has been unfortunately for him, the story of his career, they have Davis mills at quarterback. Last week against the bills at buffalo, their first half of offense was one of the if not the worst first half offensive displays I've seen in NFL history. Just your quick take a lot of crappy, you've seen a lot of crappy animals. I've seen a lot of crappy NFL football and I'll tell you this one takes the cake last week. You're quick like one minute breakdown of Houston if you have one. I don't have much, I am interested in a little reunion with the expatriates, many of whom. By the way, side note, I'll be interested to see we'll probably see a Bill Belichick embrace of Jack easterby during this game. First of all, Jack easterby in Seth wickersham's book, one of the curveballs I did not see coming was Jack easterby basically standing up to Robert Kraft GE wonder where he got this from. I wonder who told him this anecdote. Jack easterby, that basically, Jack easterby stood up the robber craft and said, you're not being fair to Bill Belichick. I stand with Bill. He's the greatest coach of all time. Basically something like that. There was some sort of moment. Very, very dramatic Jack east to be a moment. So we get, yeah, so we get Brandon cooks, Danny Amendola, Rex burkhead, Marcus cannon dick caserio. All the feels. Nick, all the feels. Look, I'll be interested to see I want to watch how the Patriots offense, you know, if they have any offensive linemen for this game or maybe they're just going to go like 7 on 7, like just one guy snapping in the middle of the field type of thing. I assume, the way they're operating, it seems like they're confident that some of those guys are going to be back from COVID and whatnot..

"Contract. Well, you know, thought thought he blew a fart, but he really should his pants. He thought wrong. Like if you look at restructuring, Gilmore wasn't going to restructure with the Patriots for whatever reason. So you didn't trade him at the trade deadline last year. You didn't try to trade him during the off season. You said, well, we're going to restructure him or we think we have leverage. So we'll be able to restructure him and keep him this season. And you ended up reading that wrong. And so you end up with a 6th round pick in 2023. For a guy who's a top 5 cornerback in the league when he's healthy. I don't know how anybody can look at that and say, it's a win or that it's, you know, try to explain that away. To me, that's a clear loss for Belichick. You can not allow a guy who is as talented as Gilmore to walk away to get out of your building for a 6th round pick two years from now. To me, that is a mismanagement of the asset. And yeah, I mean, I absolutely agree with you. I mean, we've been talking about it for a long time. We've been talking about on this podcast for a year. We talked about trade lot. Everybody, Nick, this is how blatantly obvious the situation was that the Patriots had to trade stuff on Gilmore. Gilmore put his house in the market. That's him and his agent talking in his agent going like the Patriots aren't idiots. I mean, they know whether they're going to give you a contract extension or not. If they're too, I think there were two and 5 at the deadline. That was after I just want to go back and look. But it was, it was over. I think that was after the bill's loss hang on one second because I wanted so they were two and 5. Yeah, I think the bills lost. I think the trade deadline was right after that. Because November 1st was.

"All right, Greg, let's start with the Stefan Gilmore trade, did you like it? No. I hated it. Yeah, I mean, look, I just, I don't understand it in a variety of ways. The only thing Nick that really explains why bill would make this deal now and take what he did is if he had some suspicion I'm not saying it's factual, but he had some thought that Stefan Gilmore, first of all, let me backtrack and explain things to people. When you are on the physically unable to perform list. And you are in the final year of your contract, like Stephon Gilmore is. You have to get off of pu P or else your contract tolls. So basically, if Stephon Gilmore just says my quad hurts the whole year and the Patriots never activate them, we're right back here next year. He's on the books for $7 million for next season. So Stefan Gilmore has to come off a pup to get his service time. He has to be active. He has to be placed on the active roster. He doesn't actually have to play in a game. He needs to do that because that gives him his service time. That means he's played this year. He'll be a free agent next year. So the only way this deal makes any sense to me, Nick, is that Bill Belichick had some thought some suspicion that Stefan Gilmore because of their contract negotiations would not would not play this year that he would basically get cleared off of, get passed on his physical, and then be placed on the active rotten as soon as he's placed on the active roster. Basically fake an injury. That's the only explanation I have Nick, because it doesn't make any sense. There's no, especially there's a cornerback shortage in the NFL. There's a quarterback shortage on the Patriots. They're now down to JC Jackson, Jonathan Jones and Jalen mills, and that's it. That's basically all they have. There are no cornerbacks and for the Patriots to be like, oh yeah, we can we're gonna trade away a guy who was defensive player of the year two years ago, and it was still a pretty good decent number one cornerback last year. And who knows what he would have come back as this year?.

"And now Alex, you can make your final point on let's talk Brady Belichick. Yeah. Well, no, I think this is relevant this week because again, we talk about, you know, how are they going to innovate the offense? This is kind of as crazy as it sounds. This is the perfect week to do it. This is a great time to have this conversation because we're out of September. We're out of that preseason mode. It's a premium opponent. It's a prime time game. We've been discussing these concepts for week. It's weeks and it kind of feels like it's now or never. Don't start, you know, don't start open up the whole playbook against Houston. Right. You should beat them with you should beat Houston with the Mickey Mouse offense. So what I will say though to go back to that question is a good question and you know when I talk with friends about the stuff I get asked like, how is the system that succeeded for 20 years? Suddenly not working. And part of it, you're right, you know, Tom Brady was a big Tom Brady wasn't a system quarterback. The system is, you know, it's a quarterback reliant system. We like a lot that we see, but, you know, we've all got to focus on Miami and flowery things about Cam Newton on a send off, which he's done a million times before when he lets a respected veteran go or a player who they like. You could say, you know, because Bill looked in a pretty pissy mood if you ask me this morning and that could indicate that he didn't want to make this decision. And then as you mentioned mack jones and it's very important not only to listen to what bill bella checks says but what he does and what he did was put back jones out there with the first team offensive line for a couple of plays at the end of his at the first half against the washington football team and then he had max jones run the two minute drill the no huddle offense and that he did with command and obviously precision and they were very impressed with that but right now what he wants to see what bill belichick wants to see and he said this the other day he to see the whole team but particularly the quarterback play faster react faster execute faster and what better way to do that than enjoying practices with the philadelphia eagles and then a preseason game on thursday night but yes there is a competition and we'll have to see how this goes in the next couple of weeks but my money is on cam. I wouldn't will get into this but I don't think his quarterback comments were Something to really weigh in heavily on but I do think that overall I mean him talking about, you know, the draft specifically the personality just sound thrilled with having to Shell out as much money as he did and he basically admitted that the only reason they had to do that cuz they didn't draft well in recent years and and he committed what a lot of us have said where it's not sustainable to do that. You need the draft to be the lifeblood of your team so that you can do other things like you can't just every three years song ten free agents. It just it it's probably not going to happen be it's not economically feasible. And so I thought it was very refreshing for Robert to to talk to the assemblage yesterday and and really be honest and I think you know in judging from the comments at Boston Sports Journal com from my column off of this press conference wage. Think on a whole I thought the Patriots the Patriots fans reacted very well to it that are really like, okay. Well, at least now we know that the person in charge realizes is a isn't happy about it called last season horrible and B thinks that the team has made correction and is moving in the right direction. That's all anybody ever wanted to to hear from anybody at at one page place and they heard it from Craft and I think it made Patriot Nation breathe a little bit easier. Not that they weren't confident in Bill Belichick rebounding in any event, but I just think it reinforced that. All right. Well, we're still the Patriots thought we had a we had an off-year didn't go well we're going to correct things were going to get things back on track.

Kraft Admits Patriots Are Not Perfect
"Kraft speaking some truth Greg about the 2020 season and how the team got to this point. Yeah, I thought it was really refreshing Nick. I thought that you know, look the only person I understand how the Patriots are set up and I don't disagree with the way the Patriots are set up that page during the football season bills the one who talks for the football organization and I get it. I don't disagree with it, but it's a little bit problematic when off season is going down the tubes and you're not getting any real answers from the chief executive of the football team like this past season with Belichick. He basically deflected everything off at defensive about any questions. Look he's in charge of the team. I understand pointed comments about say there. Their inability to draft. Well the past couple of years wouldn't exactly reflect. Well on the players, he's currently trying to coach but there is a way to say what everybody wants said without saying it and Bill just decides to do things the quickest way possible the easy way possible. I understand why he does it I'm not going to I'm not criticizing him for it. But it it does cause problems when the team looks like it's floundering off where we going. What is the direction things like that? And no one's answering any questions directly and what I heard from Robert Kraft yesterday was a man who was completely honest about where the the team is in a lot of different areas.

Top 10 players signed by Patriots
"Talk about the Patriots. The the Patriots grabbed everybody's attention by making move after move after move after move. Like we're watching it over agency going off. How many people are going to bring in its kind of unbelievable how many starters they've added? And so I count they added ten players that I think are very very significant to their team next year. In fact, I would say pretty clearly the Patriots are back and a lot of people saw this coming, you know, but they are going to be a force in the NFL next year here is my list my nerdy list of the ten players the top players. They added that are very significant to their roster next year. The first two are massive. It will reshape the entire Patriots offense. They added two tight ends Johnny Smith and Ed Hunter Henry. To Johnny Smith signed from Tennessee. He signed a four year deal worth up to fifty million dollars. That's Thirty one point two five million dollars guaranteed and he's only twenty-four years old. So that's Monday. That's a really gigantic Marquis franchise player. He cited the reason why it came to New England is cuz he loves Bill Belichick. He's got great respect for him. And I want to point out of all the everybody I'm about to talk about these shows to be in New England Bill Belichick got his kind of guys who sought out New England wanted to be there and wanted to work hard and win a Superbowl. I think it matters. It's very very exciting. These are not with Josh Gordon's or what's the other example Phillip Dorsett who they made a move for and they're not really like that. You think they fit they don't work out know. These are guys who all chose to be in New England who wanted to win a Superbowl. I really want to win a Superbowl. These guys went out of their way to be New England now the other tight and they brought in With twenty-six-year-old tight end Hunter Henry from the LA Chargers got a three-year deal twenty-five million dollars guaranteed. It's worth up to thirty seven point five million dollars total if he meets all those incentives. They also added two wide receivers the Patriots brought in Nelson agholor to a you got a two year twenty six million dollar contract East twelve years old. Now a lot of people do not like this move and I I get it Nelson agholor is not the most flashy player in the NFL but I think if it's very well with Cam Newton, he's good at he's not going up and getting the ball. He's got good hands did some stuff of the Raiders that I think deserves your attention go watch what he did with the Raiders and I just I'm like, huh a lot of good plays. Okay. I understand. I see the potential Bill Belichick and the Patriots would see and Nelson agholor go will give the guy a good contract, especially considering the Patriots have like our desolate at wide receiver. They need help. They got home. Who is awesome but he can't do everything by himself from the slot. They have n'keal Harry who n'keal Harry. I I think he's going to pop. I think he's going to progress and keep getting better. But she's not a number one right now. So on top of the page where it's also added Kendrick Bourne guy from my local area actually went to Eastern Washington University 25 years old. He's coming from the San Francisco 49ers. He got a three year deal worth twenty two point five million dollars. Now another thing the Patriots did they also added they signed Center Ted carriages and they traded for tackle Trent Brown. So this is the new Patriots offense right now. They've receivers Nelson agholor, Julian Edelman Kendrick born and kill hair is its own nuclear Aguilera. I'm doing my best. It's a hard game to say. They also have Sony Michelle running backs for any receivers Sony Michelle at running back and improved offensive line. Cam Newton at quarterback who I get why people doubt Cam? He's a former NFL MVP and with when you put cams Talent with a lot of weapons including two outstanding tight ends Hunter Henry Smith, right man. I'll tell you what I look at the Patriots offense and think two things immediately number one. Everything is going to run through their brand new Titans. Their entire offense now is probably going to drive down the seams of the field right up the middle. They're going to use our tents heavily lot of play-action again. I am scheme wise things will look a lot like the page words did back in the day when they had drunk and Aaron Hernandez together to start tight ends. Now number two. I feel very very confident with Cam Newton as the Patriots quarterback and it surprised me but I want to remind you that two years ago. Tom Brady was the page word starting quarterback and did basically nothing and the reason was there were no weapons there. He kept running into the same brick wall. His receivers weren't good enough. So, how can I think you and I would both agree. I like Cam Newton Tom Brady's a better quarterback than Cam Newton. So my point is if Tom Brady couldn't make it work with New England's roster. How was Cam Newton supposed to succeed? He was set up to fail will now Cam Newton's being given weapons is being set up to do. Well, I'm excited man. He's a former NFL MVP, he's hungry. I I personally believe Cam Newton's going to have an awesome year and it really is going to make extended one-year deal with like it was like three and a half million dollars with a bunch of incentives. I honestly think we're gonna look back at his contract at the end of next year and go. Can you believe the deal they got on Camden he played so well for no money. I really think he's he's a guy who can didn't play well enough wage. Last year to earn a new gigantic contract. So he's going to have to show what he can do this year and maybe earn more money next year but I think cam is poised to do very very well and make a lot of money and win a lot of games in New England

Seattle Seahawks Today: Latest Rumors On A Russell Wilson Trade
"Originally or a few a few weeks ago russell. Wilson's camp released some information that he was unhappy in seattle. They have not formally requested a trade but it seems like the relationship has some conflict there. he has a no trade clause in his contract. There were specific exemptions from four. Team's the cowboys. The saints the bears and las vegas after dak prescott signed is extent like talked about and the raiders recently have back derek carr. They've given their full support. They they wanna move forward their cars. So that really leaves the saints and the bears as the final two candidates for possibly getting russell wilson this offseason so saints are always in salary cap trouble From what. I've learned about the salary cap they can. They ended up being able to just move money around when they need to. But they're always close to reaching that point so they're always during the cat but it seems unlikely that they will be able to make a move for quarterback this price in this caliber. So when you re comes down to it. The bears like the front runners as the most desperate team. Four quarterback if you've watched the nfl shares have always had quarterback issues. They've been in quarterback hell so to speak for the past two decades and russell. Wilson could come in and immediately fix that so the bears are desperate. And i see the bears as the front running candidate to lead russell wilson or land russell. Wilson this offseason. So when did all this start with russell. wilson is come out of nowhere I would say to myself when i first saw. Russell wilson wants out. I was shocked. But although it's not that cut and dry comes down to russell wilson. Mp carol's relationship. So they've won a superbowl. They made playoffs made. They made the playoffs. Eight times in the last nine seasons which is absurd. It's absurd to think there was wasn't been playing in the nfl for the last nine seasons But he's been assault as they come. He's true winner. he goes to the playoffs. he's clutch and i see. The situation is very similar to the tom. Brady situation new england. You had tom brady and bill play for all those years. Winning all those super bowls and talk. Although tom brady wasn't playing up to his level he wasn't playing bad and they had that loss to the titans of the playoffs. And i think he just had those two egos bill. Belichick and tom brady kind of going at each other. And they've they've finally kind of just tired of that relationship and they wanted to move on. They wanted to start. Something new. And when quarterbacks are with the head coach for so long things start to take a turn for the worst so. I'm not sure if that's exactly what's happening with p carroll and russell wilson but there are a lot of similarities there so it was reported in week. Eleven of the season. That wilson stormed out of an offensive meeting when he was trying to offer insight as to what he wanted done as on a bit done for protection standpoint and so that was the first sign the second sign is just overall. He's been getting hit way. Too much. says he's sacked. He's been three hundred ninety four times since entering the league which is on pace to be the most sat quarterback of all time which is pretty insane when you consider how well he's played and he's just been under duress running for his life literally for the last his whole career and so seattle hasn't found a way to kind of sure up that protection for him. I think that's starting to get frustrating as well. So but more specifically in two thousand twenty. He had a week nine loss to the bills. This was a defining moment for this offense offense because after that moment. Russell wilson had started to throw a lot of turnovers making a lot of risky plays they lose to the bills. The seahawks kind of started to scale the offense back like i said to limit turnovers and did not perform well for the rest of the season so before that game. They were top. Three league based on expected points added per play. They were the number three the top three leak and then after that game from from weeknight on they felt a number eighteen the remainder of the season. So that's a huge huge drop off so they really sputtered down the stretch. They were able to win games and make the playoffs through to their defense. Kind of picking picking up. Their play was weird. Their offense was so good in the beginning the defense awful and he kind of flipped that latter half of the year but he's also getting hit It doesn't seem to meet on their offensive loss of beat philosophy and he. He's definitely voiced that he wants more of a say. In the franchise direction as the franchise quarterback so all these things culminating into one is. Where would he end up.

Cam Newton Re-Signing With Boston's Patriots: Making Sense Of The Move
"I do wanna move to the quarterback news today tony because bill ballot check and cam. Newton have apparently decided to run it back next season with the patriots agreeing to terms with newton on a one year. Deal with up to fourteen million dollars. Newton did struggle down the stretch famously. Last season tony. So does this move makes sense to you. It's so charitable that you'd say he struggled down the stretch. He struggled from the moment he got in there. He had twelve rushing touchdowns which is wonderful but he had eight passing touchdowns and ten interceptions. I want to get the stats right. Here he was. I mean he couldn't throw downfield. He was twenty eighth in passing rating and he was deadliest in yards per game. And so you asked me. Does it make sense. And i'm going to tell you declarative in affirmatively. It does make sense because he's a professional quarterback right and he took responsible. He was terrible last year. He couldn't throw it but he took responsibility after every loss. He said this is my fault. He was a leader. The other players revered him as a leader. The coaching staff loved him as leader. Belichick him. Personally the worst that can happen problem is that he becomes a backup. And would you trust your team to the backup cam newton after all these years. Yes you would. It does feel like the contract. You give to maybe charitably again. A high end. Backup tony because look the deal as it is six billion dollars again or wrapped up in incentives and honors and playoff achievement. So a lot of this really does hinge on how we actually plays in real time but the other thing about this. That clear is that this is just mr right now for bill belichick. This is not mr right. They're going to go and look around. And there is a phrase that i think of another piece of wisdom from someone else that by the way describes nothing about my own personal life or philosophies but you are as faithful as your options. What some wise men believe bill. Belichick is faithful to cam newton right now because there aren't options otherwise at that price but is it going to look at the draft and say. Can we get another quarterback absolutely. Oh he'll look at the draft. And maybe mack jones will be there and maybe trade lance will be there and he'll maybe everybody talks about him requiring jimmy garoppolo very when he's not having broken bones but he has broken bones a lot you. It is at the moment to marriage of convenience. But i will say three things. One cam had no training camp last year none too. He actually had toronto virus himself and might have been in a depleted physical condition. And three m. it's it's just hard for me to believe that he would be this bad again. I you know. I got to be a little bit better but again again. My point would be if you were stuck with cam. Newton that's like being stuck with twenty five other backups. This guy who was the mvp at one point and on muscle memory alone. He could probably make something happen. Maybe maybe i'm being naive about this. I don't

Jimmy Garoppolo Is Reportedly ‘Plan A’ For Patriots At Quarterback
"So much has been made about the potential of a reunion between jimmy g. and bill be in new england. The forty nine. A quarterback is under contract for two more seasons but new england needs a quarterback and they may look to trade for garappolo that is according to a very interesting piece. That are mike. Reese put together over the weekend who covers the patriots for so well and he gets up with us earlier today. Mike for those who did not read. It gives us a sense of your thinking on the possibilities. Here of jimmy g. Coming back to foxborough so good morning green. I would say as a reporter covering the team there so much secrecy around the patriots quarterback plans so i was asking myself the question. What do i know for fact and for fact. What i know is that the patriots bill. Belichick he holds jimmy garoppolo in such high regard. And it's one thing for me to say it. But i could actually show it to you. I mean there was a picture after the forty niners handed the patriots their worst home loss in two decades under bill belichick. We're bill belichick. Steve on the field to talk with jimmy garoppolo and josh mcdaniels. The offensive coordinator was standing nearby for his. Turn to talk to jimmy garoppolo. So the point. Is this screening. If the patriots believe jimmy garoppolo is their plan a and the big gap to plan b. Now is the time for them to at least test. The forty niners commitment to jimmy g. and so then. That begets the obvious next question which is if they do decide to your point that that's what they wanna do. How do they get it done. Well got to give credit to michael lombardi. The longtime nfl front office man who was here with the patriots when the patriots drafted garoppolo in two thousand and fourteen on his podcast. The gm shuffle. He said how about sam darnold going from the jets to the forty niners who in turn with then trade jimmy garoppolo in a situation controlled by garoppolo. 'cause he has a no trade clause and you saw the respect. There was mutual between the patriots and garoppolo. Well you'd think jimmy might like the idea of a homecoming in that scenario greenie. That could work for everyone. The forty niners would pick up a lot of cap space in that exchange. The patriots would get their quarterback through they respect so much in the jets. Your jets would probably take a quarterback at number two which might be their preference anyway.

Greg Bedard Patriots Podcast with Nick Cattles
"belichick" Discussed on Greg Bedard Patriots Podcast with Nick Cattles
"Listen, it wasn't a good product you and I know that we know that they were in the middle class we talked about that since I don't know a week four or five that this team is it's not a bottom-feeder. It's not a contender. It's not a playoff team. It's somewhere in the middle and imagine if you didn't have Cam in his leadership. This thing could have looked even worse because off the field off the field aside from home. Let's check actually saying some things that made people angry off the field these players and how they handled their responsibilities. You could have asked more of them. So just imagine if Cam wasn't nice guy wasn't the leader and you had somebody else and it didn't work out and you finished three and thirteen and hey, who knows right? Who knows? What cam did the impact he had on the younger guys that looked at him and said, oh he's handling this the right way think about all the younger players on this roster and I know they've got plenty of veterans and they've got leaders in that locker room. So I don't want to make too much of being the guy and you know, the only voice and and the one that everybody follows but he's the quarterback in the quarterback as the face of the team. The quarterback is the guy that asks, you know, all the place is the most and he's the one that gets asked the most questions from the media and if you had somebody at top right underneath Belichick who has you said took everything personal was just angry at the situation wage. Angry at everything like that might have led to some of these guys checking out by week 13 or 14 and that's when you start to build a bad culture. That's when you start to build a theme that is full of dudes that you know, hey, if we're not 7 and 2 to start the season I might start questioning what the hell's going on here. So I do think there needs to be a lot said regarding what came off the field not to say that he played well on the field and at the end of the day it's about wins and losses..
