Avs quiet about Nichushkin's absence after police report
"The Colorado avalanche did not comment Friday on either the status of forward valerian ASUS can, who has been away from the team for a few days, or on a police report about an incident at the team hotel in Seattle last weekend. Colorado coach Jared bednar again said Friday that niche skin is away from the team for personal reasons. This is not a professional decision. It's a personal decision rights out there. Asked later, if the shoes can not with the apps because of a violation of team rules, bednar again reiterated the personal reasons. I'm geffen coolbaugh.

"Scientific. Stuff. There is really eloquent. You went from clowns and castles to kings, and now just I was looking for scientific stuff. Huge. Some new science stuff. Stuff. We're going to make a volcano. On the text line, look, Deshawn Payton's staff looks like uncle Vic take two with a much better head coach, but we've been here before, so it is hard to get excited until he can beat the chiefs at home and make the playoffs. Okay. Yeah, I mean, that's fair. That's fair. Yeah, I'll give you. I'm here. I'll throw this question out. Yeah. You know how I like to take the temperature of the room from time to time. Correctly, of course. Yes. Speaking of which hurry up. Ask the question, quickly. Let's move on. All right, so I want to take the temperature. Broncos country in lightweight just told you about the reaction that the fans at the nuggets game gave Sean Payton is because you have give me one word to describe where you're at right now with the Broncos. Just one word to describe optimistic. Where you are. You're optimistic. All right. See what else you got out there, 303-713-1043. We got the morning brew coming your way. Mark, of course, is a very fluent in speaking injury. So what is to make of the latest on Gabe land is Scott. And it's always nice to see a bully get punched in the nose and have to take a step back. That was the case yesterday. We'll tell you what happened next. It's time for your morning brew, grab a cup of Joe and get caught up on everything you need to know. If you're schlereth and Evans, while we've come to expect a certain level of excellence from the nuggets, especially at home, and almost taking for granted that even in games in which they are trailing at parts of the game, even maybe trailing going into the fourth quarter. We still expect them to hit the gas and go, but having a one point lead at halftime they came out and got their doors blown off by Chicago in the third quarter and it became a route in the second half and the nuggets go down one 17 to 96. Michael Malone on what went wrong. Just no defense. I mean, we gave up 66 in the paint tonight. We only scored 38. I mean, there's a huge discrepancy in the paint. And all year long, I think we've been a top 5 paint quarantine. So that's a number that can't happen. And then the transition. They just got out and ran, you know, missed shot lay up, turned over, lay up. Only 11 Chernobyl was one for 18 points. And then I think we're up one at halftime. We got off to a decent start in the third, and then it just fell apart. So what is that? Is that fatigue? Is that just a bad night? You just, you know, for whatever reason, it's just a collective funk that the team was in to these things happen over the course of a long 82 game season. Yeah. I think that they do happen, Mike. Like I said, there's a little concern as athleticism and matching the really athletic teams. But more of it is exactly what Michael Malone said, you know, I think not playing great defense. You know, maybe taking maybe taking a team that's not great lightly. The other thing is, are you trying to hoist up three pointers because you're two, three pointers way if you're Murray away and he's one for 7 from three point line and doesn't make that. And it was a foregone conclusion. He's basically saying, yeah, I'm going to go break the all time record. Like you get out of your game a little bit. I think there's, I think there's part of that because he was one for three. I believe from three point land at halftime. Then he's zero for four in the second half. I think you get out of what has gotten you there. But I still, I still, there were times, especially as they were still down 13, 12, 14, trying to get back into the game. Where, especially offensively, they were running their offense like we typically would see them run it, but the shots just wouldn't go down. There'd be fumble passes. They'd throw passes away. It was just, there wasn't just that sharpness that we've become accustomed to with this team. It was just off. And for whatever the reason, but you know what? They have not, of course, the nuggets haven't reached for me the level of trust that I have in the avalanche. Avalanche, have earned it, right? But there's still a healthy amount of trust in this team that until it becomes a thing. I'm not worried about it. I'm just going to blow it off as just one bad night at the office. I'll give you that. Although, you know, that's something that I'll keep an eye on. Keep an eye on. Sure. Sure. It's not a thing, right. Until it becomes a thing. Next on the morning brew. We've got the abs and kings tonight, but first, a Jared bednar update on Gabe Landis gog's knee. My little bit concerned, yeah. I mean, he hasn't played all year. Do I think that he can easily come out of this and be fine? Yeah. I mean, he's putting in the work. So the only time will tell, you still don't. You speak me. You speak injuries. And bednar also revealed some new details that apparently this is not just one surgery that he's coming back from. He had a surgery last march before returning for all 20 postseason games. They had another surgery in October. But now, what we're finding out is that the two surgeries weren't related. So the surgery in March, then the surgery in October were not related. So, doctor schlereth, speculate for me. So are you telling me they're not on the same knee? No, they're on the same knee. But different surgeries. Interesting. Again, I keep going back to, I keep going back to what I, what I had told you, shoot this is about 6 weeks ago, we had this conversation about articular surface of the bone covering of your knee, and if you go in there and think I gave it, we're gonna calm it down. It's gonna be okay. It's almost like a bone bruise, and you go back in and you've worn off that articular surface, then you have to go in and have a microfracture surgery. It takes a long time. And that's one of those things having been through it. I probably had 6 microfracture surgeries on my left knee. And what ends up happening is, you know, you take one step forward and you're like, hey man, I feel pretty good today. And you go out and you press a little bit and then you're limping around for three days. And it's just a hard that microfracture surgery literally was like, there were more setbacks in that process than an ACL. Just because it's just not, it just takes time. So bottom line it for me. Just your gut feeling. I'm just asking you for a gut feeling, but you're well versed on this. You're kind of an expert on it. Just everything you're hearing. Where would you put the odds of gay blandish God returning this season? At. Returning, I would put the odds at. 60%. Just to return just to return. Just a little bit above 50 50. Yeah, okay. And then return and be excellent and be gay blender Scott. 10%. Wow. Okay. Next on the morning brew. Nice to see when the bully acts like a bully and then somebody stands up to the bully and the bully cowers, so yesterday on ESPN's first take, we found out that they're actually still in the hot take world of sports talk. There is still something called accountability as Kendrick Perkins found out. I want to correct something here from yesterday's show. "Great illustration of what Matthew's trying to say? You could stay on the shore, it's going to be nice, but sometimes getting in that boat means you're going to sail through the storms there. That's part of it. And other hall and continues a true Christian can not follow the master only in those matters with which he or she agrees. No. We follow him everywhere, including if necessary into arenas filled with tears and trouble, where sometimes we may stand very much alone. So he reminds us there, there is a cost to discipleship. And if we want to truly receive all the healing that Christ offers us, we need to not just do our best to trust in him, but to also keep his commandments stay true to our covenants and be loyal to the church, of which he is the head. And the hard thing about this is again, just to wrap this all up, Luke and Matthew and everybody, when we're in the middle of these storms, it can be gut wrenchingly difficult to recognize that Jesus cares and that he loves us. And to figure out, is this even where I should be standing right now? Is the boat the right place to be? And exercise that kind of faith. So I want to kind of bring together to close here an article by elder bednar, accepting the lord's will and timing that's from the August 2016 Ensign. You're probably familiar with this. He discusses the case of a young couple who were married three weeks out of the temple when the husband he's calling John was diagnosed with bone cancer. This young couple, he is a returned missionary that all these hopes and dreams of the future and just how that just comes crashing to a halt when you get that kind of a diagnosis and face something like that. They had treatments. They had blessings and I don't know how this happened, but elder bednar ended up visiting with this couple in the hospital. And they requested a priesthood blessing and elder bednar says I then pose questions that I had not planned to ask and had never previously considered. So he's inspired to ask them this question. John, do you have the faith not to be healed? If it is the will of our heavenly father that you are transferred by death in your youth to the spirit world to continue your ministry, do you have the faith to submit to his will and not be healed? In other bednar says, continues in the article, if God's will were for this good young man to be healed and that blessing could be received only if this valiant couple first had the faith, not to be healed. We recognize a principle that applies to every devoted disciple strong faith in the savior is submissively accepting of his will and timing in our lives even if the outcome is not what we hoped for or wanted. Then elder Ben, he quotes here the journal entry of the wife after this conversation. He's calling her Heather. Heather wrote, this is her journal now.

"Out to see Mitch graduate and a news crew comes in and they're filming Mitch and they've got a camera on Alex back in Arizona. It's this beautiful human interest story. But meanwhile, my ADD, I impulsively booked a hotel like an hour away. So I've got my daughter Mackey staying with me. We're driving in and out in and out. So then the last night, I just say, I don't care. I'm not like money's no object, but I get a motel 6 or something in rexburg because I just don't want to keep driving back and forth. So then we go there and then I leave my AirPods there when I check out the reason I'm saying all of this is that then I get to the airport and I think man and I immediately want to beat myself up. I'm a horrible person. What is wrong with me? And then I had to use my own medicine here and I said, oh, I'm a human being and I'm going about life. And so then I said this on a podcast and I feel like I don't know at first I think that people didn't understand why I was going, but I said check this out. Every single time that my daughter gets in a horrific car crash and then her husband, my son in law, then graduates BYU, Idaho, four months later. And we go to rexburg and I book a hotel out of town and then book another hotel in town and then leave that hotel. I lose my AirPods every single time curve. That's what I'm saying. So it's like that's where I go back to even when I go back to that thing about bad behavior and sin and all these things. Or that happened. And now what do we do? I'm having a human experience because I am human. Which is how long we are into this where it's like first plug for the atonement. I'm a big fan. I really am. I gave a sacrament talk not long ago and I just said that gave this whole thing about external validation and nobody knows the troubles I've seen. That kind of that spiritual hymn. And I said, I pulled a quote from elder bednar that was so beautiful where he just talks about I skip right past the tone that covers sin and that stuff. It's like it covers grief and loss and pain and sorrow that he has perfect empathy. So I call it colony is the great empath. And so when I talk about people needing external validation, hey, am I okay? I mean, I feel like they're basically hand in their am I okay off to somebody who's like, oh, I don't know what to say here, but I'm a bishop, so I'm going to say, I don't think so. I think you need to do something else better or I hand it over to my spouse. I'm like, I don't know, do you think I'm okay? And if they're saying, I don't know, if I say this right, will they want to be physical with me? So yeah, no, I think you're okay. Or if I say they're okay, then what does that mean? I'm not okay. So we're handing our am I okay off the people where then I feel like, meanwhile, the atonement is about, all right, I know who's telling me I'm okay. Turns out, God. So he's like, oh no, remember I created you? Let's start with the, you're good. And you have thoughts and feelings and emotions you have because you're a human being. And you're trying your best. Man, see, that was a tangent, right? But that was we talked about shame, and we talked about a band of it and attachment. And so that's where I feel like we talked about identity and sense of self. And I was trying to that was me trying to get back to where we started from. I don't remember. I went on my rant about seeing someone else, the energy behind if the bishop can defuse it, you need somebody to talk to. And then because that shame, you walk in. It seems not good. And we can transition, I want to jump into narcissism. Because so here's the thing. Like you said, narcissism is this buzzword. It's in 2022, right? Again, plug. You have the virtual couch podcast, and then this is a complete separate podcast feed called waking up to narcissism. Now, and I'm going to start it from a leadership context. There is this feeling of, you know, we throw this around like we do OCD and these are clinical terms. Now we're just using an everyday language, right? So just because somebody is rude, doesn't necessarily mean that there are narcissists, right? Or just because you have a difficult bishop to work with, doesn't mean he's a prideful narcissist that didn't get hugged as a little boy or something. There's so much going on. But I get the emails from people that they think, I'm so glad you're doing this podcast or this effort with leading saints and oh boy, if you could only meet my bishop or my relief president or state president, because they're a narcissist. Yeah. And again, I'm not fully wearing what does that term even mean on a clinical level, but can we obviously it's a diagnosis. So maybe we should we should pump the brakes a little bit and try and diagnose somebody with clinical term when we're not even that's not our thing. So let's start there with that background of leadership and narcissism. Like what is narcissism? So let me I'm going to say one quick thing and then I'm going to do I pulled up an article by another therapist named Eleanor Greenberg that I just really like the way that she lays a few things out. So the first thing I want to say is that so yeah, this narcissism will be waking up to narcissism podcast. I was really intentional again. I was intentional about the name. What I was talking about my own narcissistic traits and tendencies. I started laying that out a good hundred episodes into the virtual couch now I'm at 330 or however many episodes. And I would get plenty of people that would say, do you really mean that? Or are you just kind of joking? And I was saying, oh, no. These are narcissistic traits or tendencies that I would have. And so whenever I do a podcast and I would bring up narcissism or gaslighting or these sort of things, you see when you do one that pulls a lot more downwards than anything else, right? Yeah. And this narcissism or my four pillars or parenting or faith crisis, those were by far a lot more people paying attention. And so then I started just and then the more couples I'm seeing and the reason I'm seeing more couples is because of the thing I talked about with the pornography where I'm realizing a lot of the guys don't have a good marriage or connection. So then I go find this evidence based model for marriages, emotionally focused therapy, started by Sue Johnson, this Canadian psychologist that's amazing. And that's the basis of my four pillars of a connected conversation. I find the emotionally focused therapy. I start working with more men in their marriages to help them turn away from unhealthy coping mechanisms. So then the more couples I start seeing, the more, let's say, and right now, I probably see 20 couples a week. I've been doing that for a few years now. 15 of them, maybe now it's probably ten, maybe it's 50 50, but at first it would maybe 15 of them that you would lay out these new tools. And it was clearly a people just don't know how to communicate because they don't know how to communicate because they didn't see it model. And it's a skill set, right? Such a skill set. It is not like a trade. Yeah. Because we're coming at it at things from an emotionally immature abandonment attachment place. Man, I feel like that is where I got off the tangent when I said I couldn't remember where we're going with. And it was about abandonment attachment, but I'm going to I'm going to pretend that we made it. We landed the plane over there. Okay, let's do it. So then people don't know what they don't know. And so, oh, no, I do need to finish the thought. So what it was is that it really is that if somebody doesn't, yeah, if somebody doesn't meet my needs, then something's wrong with me. So we actually bring that abandonment principle into our adult relationships. So when we show up in adult relationships, we're still trying to figure out how do I need to show up so that this person will love me because navigating if they don't love me, but the way I want them to love me, it's because it is me. I must be bad. That's the attachment piece. So I got to figure out a way to get this person to love me. So in our childhood, it's the do I become the star athlete? Do I become the star student? Because it's that the way that my parents noticed me, and then this is where I think I really feel like this part helps parents a lot, because I think that we know the line where when a kid is acting out and they're being mean or they're withdrawing. If they start cutting, if they start expressing suicidal ideation or we're thinking, why on earth do they do that? And it's because if that is the way they get noticed, if that's the way they know they exist is because they only get that attention when they go down this path of negativity, then that becomes the way that they are showing up from an attachment standpoint. At some point though, if they're expressing themselves of saying, hey, here's what I need from you from a parent from a relationship. And that person doesn't respond. Now that we harken back to that, oh, it's because it is me. I am unlovable. I am broken or something's wrong with me. So that's what we bring into adult relationships. And so now we start trying to date somebody and we're both saying, okay, well, what do you think? It's like, well, I like this movie, where the guy might say, oh, I totally do too. Now, in his mind, he's thinking, okay, because if she knows, I hate those movies, she's gone. And then we even in our emotional immaturity, we start saying, I could probably get, I could probably learn to love that movie. No, I do. I love that

"Requiring payment or inflicting pain on an individual in order for them to repent. That's the natural consequences of sin. So as elder Anderson writes in the book, we know that if you don't repent, you will suffer. But you can't suffer for this in. Jesus has already done that. You will suffer because of the sin. All suffering and repentance or no repentance, you may suffer, but sin is the cause. I think that perspective is really needed to know what repentance is and to know what it's not. So repentance is not the punishment payment or penalty of sin. Repentance is not a checklist, repentance is not a change of behavior. Now, when I used to teach that to my students, you can imagine a minute. Yeah, you can imagine it looks like that. And it's not. Hey, atheists can change their behaviors. Yeah. And that's not repentance. Repentance is has to be through the atonement of Jesus Christ. It's only redemptive. If it is through the atonement of Jesus Christ, repentance is more than conforming, it's more than performing. It's being transformed through the atonement of Jesus Christ. It's not just a change of behavior. It's a change of mind. It's a change of heart, so that, you know, that's kind of the difference between what it is and what it's not. And that's the tricky part is that it's hard to get out the measuring stick and measure, okay, how much is your heart changed this week, your accountants, or it's like, hey, will you stop doing that thing? Like your behavior changed. So you must be repenting. That's great, but that's sort of this trap there that we can step in if we were just only measuring the change of behavior and putting it up next to repentance must be. That's so true. Yeah. And we struggle with that in the church. I just spoke to somebody last week who was speaking about an individual, you know, who lost their membership in the church. But who was keeping all the commandments, and now they've gone back and they're participating in all the church ordinances and covenants, and yet according to at least this individual, you know, who suffered abuse at this perpetrator's hands. Is not seeing that there has been a transformation of heart and mind. And I just think it's really important to know that repentance is not. Here's another nut that repentance is not through the church. Now, the church can help. They can help us through the repentance process and confession may be required in the case of certain serious sins to help us not only to be accountable, but to help the church to protect innocent victims of sin and to help protect the integrity of the name of the church. But repentance is not and forgiveness is not through the church, it is through Jesus Christ in him alone. Elder bednar tells the story.

"One. I remember an appreciative leadership meeting here in Richmond back in 2014. Is this about a month before I became state president elder bednar was here. And one of the comments he made was we have to stop stove piping the gospel. We talk about missionary work. And then we talk about temple and family history. And now we see how that has been present Nelson stressed it and taught it. So beautifully, it's all one work. It's all the same. And we've got to stop stove piping it. So I like the thought of it being all interconnected. Yeah, yeah. One doctor and it's a Christ doctor and they came from the father, right? Yeah. So I'm just curious, walking into this next role. This is obviously a full-time role for three years and if there's any organization or program or whatnot that is at least somewhat familiar or similar to a military process. Full-time missionaries might be it. In that way, help me grow up and it was an intense experience when not I would assume I'd have a similar or more intense experience with the military, whatnot. But nonetheless, it was a very formative experience for me. And many others. What are your thoughts, we all know that we're completely naive to these roles until we're about 6, 7 months into them. But just for the sake of discussion here, what are you thinking? Walking into this and should your missionaries be intimidated by your marine experience here? Well, interestingly enough, if you've noticed and maybe this have gone against that for doing an interview, but you notice that when they do your bios now, the church news, it doesn't, it doesn't say what your profession was. Oh yeah. Yeah, they used to. I used to talk about your profession, but now with mission presence, they don't, but that aside, I think I was joking when my sons had said, yeah, I was going through the missionary handbook. It says, get up at 6 30. And I'm thinking, 6 30. Revelry was always at 5. Why are we sleeping in for an hour and a half? Oh boy. You're going to have them running on the beach, you know? That won't be a change that will make. But we had a good laugh about it anyway. Nice. One of my sons said, dad, you'll be the only mission president would be sent home a day after you get there. Nice. And speaking of sending home, I mean, that's a big concern nowadays of just this seems like a larger group of missionaries, obviously with the age change. I mean, there's a lot of variables to look at. But it seems like more and more with mental health and what not to anxieties and whatnot. A lot of missionaries are returning home. And obviously in the military, if you can't, you can't cut it and off you go. I assume, I don't know, but I'm sure the work for you. But what are your thoughts on that as far as helping these young men find success? And young women find success in the mission fail. To me, it's the primary purpose. Is to do everything that we can as husband and wife to help love love them and help them and do everything we can to keep them there. And help them to know that the lord is there and help them find a way to better tap into that. To receive his help. And to feel of his love and realize that they can do it. And there is a lot of help. There's this counselors. And the church has done just the incredible job of making that more and more available and a lot more help to mission presence than there were even just four or 5 years ago. What's out there now? So I think that's to me, you know, I had an experience in the state president. I had a young man that was serving and well, he wasn't out, I don't think 6 weeks in the mission browsing column. We joke about this, but man, as a stake president, he just hate getting calls from mission presents. Because it's never good. They never call you up to tell you. Hey, just want to let you know what a great job this missionaries doing. Maybe you should try that. See how it goes? I've made a note. A lot of them that I've mentioned it to they all say, yeah, we should do that. But they've got their hands full. But anyway, he called and we worked with this missionary. And about 6 months later, he called me again. And I was having struggles. And while the third time he called with this missionary, I remember I said two months at present, I said, you've done all you can, send him home. You know, I'm thinking about it as companion. I'm thinking about, you know, the impact it has to the work. I should just send him home. And he said, well, he said, no, he said, I'm not quite ready to do that. And he made it. He served as complete mission, he served two years. He came home. He was a changed person. He wasn't the same young man that I set apart. And a couple of months ago, I call that mission president and I told him, I said, I'd just done a temple recommend interview with this young man. And he was going off to college. And he's just in a good place. I said, I just want to thank you for hanging in there. And doing all you could. I said, and I had received my call then. So I knew, and I told him, I said, you're a great example on inspiration to me. Every time, I'm looking across at a missionary that thoughts of them going home, I'm going to think of this mission president and say, okay, what else can we do? And I'm excited about you mentioned some of the military things. One of the fun things in the military was surprising. If you really want to know how things really look, if you tell them in advance, there's going to be an inspection on such and such a day, you know, they're going to get ready for it, right? They're going to prepare for it. So one of the things that I want to do as a mission president is I'll probably give them a little bit of heads up in the beginning, but down the road, I probably won't. I just want to walk in at 8 30 in the morning and say, I'm here for companion study. Let's do it. Yeah. Nice. And I think I'll learn more about missionaries and how to works going that way than I ever will in any zone coffee. Yeah, yeah, for sure. And especially if they're still in bed at 8 30, right? Nice. Well, this has been awesome. I'm just exploring these dynamics from the leadership with the marines to church leadership and these principles and whatnot. What are we missing before we wrap up? I got one more question for you. But anything we're missing before we wrap up. No. You know, I love the simplicity of going back to, you know, you got to really care about them. Whether that's a member of your ward or a member of your mission or your member of your team that you work with, that's.

We had our 15th year anniversary last year. And we just pulled a bunch of different testimonies from people. So it was great to hear. And a member of the temple presidency and we just recorded those all as just AO for our podcast. And you can listen to it wherever you already are listening. So if you're on Apple podcasts or anchor, Spotify. We have a local gesture of page. So that's just a way for us to know about the local opportunities that are happening right in our cities. And it's also a great place to find things for kids. You're trying to find something kids can do or teenagers, maybe a youth activity. You can find stuff there. And we have a YSA Instagram that's just for our college age kids really 18 to 30. And we just figured out, that's where they are. They're on Instagram. And so it's the best way to get a message out. And even if their upper college was still asked them to follow it because their stuff going on when their home at Christmas, they're stuff going on when they're home for the summer. So that's really an overview of our channels. So I'm going to on screen share now. Perfect. Perfect. Yeah, that's got so many questions. I got a list of questions here. So most stakes or words, I think it's becoming more and more common to have a ward Facebook group, right? It's generally private and you can announce stuff in there. But you have separate Facebook groups for different things, right? Even the come follow me or the third hour is its own Facebook group. A reason behind that. I mean, it seems to make sense in hindsight, but. Yeah, I mean, a lot of our wards have their own pages as well. And I think that works on a word level two. It's great to have a way to share events and things that are going on for your word. But it's just too much for one channel in my opinion. And especially social media is kind of a divisive topic at the moment. People are some people are super into it. Some people think it's the devil himself, and I think it's, you know, I go back to elder bednar and what he said in 2015, which was that these are inspired tools that are created right now for us to spread the gospel. And so that's what we're trying to do. And I guess I've learned, as I've been in this calling, I think I've been in this time for maybe four years now. Each platform has its pros and cons. And each platform has Facebook's really great for sharing and Instagram's really great for photos. So I don't think you can just pick one and put all your eggs in that one basket. Yeah. And really just splitting them up like that, great options for people. Maybe they want some type of post and not others so they can join some groups and others. Rather than putting all on one. I'll say even with that third hour group, which we named ingest, you know, because the third hour had just gone away when we created it. But the idea was just that let's have a place where we can help people with their come follow me so that if maybe you're come follow me seem to be working well for people who've had a bunch of kids at home and you're studying it together. But what if you're a young adult then you're studying alone or what if you're retired, your kids are out of the house and you're trying to do something. It's just kind of a community where people could talk to each other. And get to see most of the people who joined that and I love when I see sometimes it'll say, a name I don't know. So I'll look it up in LDS tools. And now they're in the state, but I've never heard of that person. They don't have a calling. And then they'll say, yeah, I just want, I'm not active. I just want to wait a study the scriptures with my kids. It's like fantastic. Maybe that's the only pitch they feel comfortable joining. Maybe they aren't quite ready to come to church every week, but it gives them a little dose of something. Yeah. So how do you just keep things going? Because with these different pages and all we need a youth story, we need a stake story. We need upload this podcast. There's a lot of moving parts. I know this firsthand from his running leading saints. And so I mean, I can just see this turn into one more thing. I got to go pester that person again for their story. So tell us about the nuts and bolts of and how it works behind the scenes. We're trying to have someone in our committee, like when we're picking people to join the committee, we're trying to find people that are in all the different words. So you kind of have eyes and ears in each word. Because most of the stories don't come because I call someone up and say, hey, you want to share a story. They come because someone makes a comment in really society. And I hear it and think, you know, there's a story there. There's more than what that comment said. Or someone will give a talk in sacrament meeting and mention something. So I just have like a notes page on my phone and all the people that are committing to as well. And you're just listening. When you hear things, I jot it down real quick. And then after church, I am pestering people. And not everyone is cool with sharing their story in a broader way like that. They don't want to have their face on social media, and that's totally fine. But most people, I think have kind of caught the vision of this as a tool to just reach people. Yeah. And I really appreciate that strategy. I interviewed a primary president a few weeks ago and she talked about how she basically builds her primary program every year off of the talks that the kids gave the rest of the year. So it's like the work's already done. They already they've already practiced. Now they're just going to do the sacra meeting. So I like this idea of that you just hear a story in a Sacramento talk and say, that would be a good story rather than going to somebody and saying, we would like you to share a story. I don't know what that is. I mean, I'm sure that happens, but I think that makes it hard. That's really hard for people to come up with one story and to tell it succinctly. Instagram has a character limit. You can't go beyond 2100, I think, and that's including spaces. So that's only three four paragraphs. And if someone wants to tell, tell us the story of your conversion and it's, you know, I've gotten 5 pages, you know, from people. And so trying to tell stories quickly, it helps if someone's already written a talk. They've already kind of done half of that work for you because they've figured out how to word it and how to tell it and the main points. And they've already let.

"So any suggestions on maybe how to go about getting the members on board. I love something that elder bednar said in a training meeting that I was in a few years ago. And I've always believed it. And it's so funny, but we put so much emphasis on what I'm about to say, we probably shouldn't do, but in my mind, every time there's a problem in the church, let's give a talk on it. We need to talk on that, right? The members come in late. We need to talk on that, right? Our youth aren't, showing up to mutual. Let's give a talk on that. You know, whatever the issue is, 5th Sunday presentation, whatever, and that's going to solve the problem, an elder bednar said, doesn't work. He said the only way that we can make things like this work is we have to be in the homes of the members. We have to be working one on one with the members as the savior would to help to help change some of these paradigms and help them work through these challenges. And so in our mind, we're trying to do that as a state presidency and as a high council. And part of it, I don't want to say we're giving talks because what I'm about to say sounds like, so you're given tox again, but we have spent probably every training meeting with our priesthood leaders the last year talking about this thing. This one issue of transitioning this over to the elder's corps and releases Heidi presidents. It's just been the drum that we have been consistently. And when we meet in their homes, we meet in meetings and their wards over the podium on ministry visits. It's the message that we're trying to convey. Yeah. Now we talked to training the members, but now from the perspective of the bishop. Because a lot of times, I don't know how to say no to these people lining up. I mean, a lot of them are dealing with really heavy problems that I feel like I need to address. I can't just tell them point them in a different direction. Everyone is so comfortable. Well, I shouldn't say everyone, but many people are very become very comfortable with their bishop, and they recognize the bishop has a mantle and they have keys. One of the ways one of the things we have to do is find a way to elevate an elder's president so that they could see those same keys. And see that same spiritual mantle that rests with them. I wish I knew what the answer was on how to exactly do that, you know? But anyway, I think that's part of the process. Kurt asked me that one more time. I had a second thought as you said that. So as far as with the helping the bishops better delegator or move things off with this constant focus on making sure that we're not overburdening the bishop. Has everyone wants to see the bishop, right? Yeah. And so in a part of it, for us, has been once again helping the bishop really embrace their role with the youth. You know? And helping them really understand you are the young men's president. You are part of the young women's group here. And that really is where you need to spend your time. And so as I as a bishop had to tell some members, look, I'm not, we are not turning you away. I mean, I would never want any member to feel that way..

"I disagree. It was not what we expected either the result in the ABS losing or the way this thing played out. It was not up to anyone's expectation, including Jared Bednar's But a couple of things I want to bring up don't feed into the propaganda coming out of Vegas. And I heard Alex portray Angelo last night. After the game spouting this If you listen to the Vegas Golden Knights They are the United States and the avalanche to Russia in this series was Lake Placid. I mean that that's the way Vegas Because they got their tails kicked in Game one they automatically Got this this mentality that they are the prohibitive underdogs. That nobody believes in them. Everybody's doubting them, and it's a trope that is used. In sports all the time. And I don't Progressive them for using it for playing that card. It's a powerful card to play. To get the team to rally. Against a common foe. And this faux being the entire world. At least the hockey world. But that doesn't mean you have to buy into it. Colorado was a better team by one overtime loss. That was the difference between these two teams. One overtime loss. That one overtime loss that the Arabs had against Vegas made their season record against Vegas. 43 and one in Vegas was four and four. That was the difference. So the Avalanche did not lose two little sisters of the poor. This is not, uh, golden Stay over Dallas. This is not the Nuggets over the Sonics. This was in many people's minds. The two best teams, at least in the West. But maybe all of hockey going head to head and yes, they ask for much of this series. We're not up to the task. But again, I ask the question. What about that? Is on. Jared Bednar, other than he's the head coach, and he's responsible for everything. Right? I mean, if that's going to be the reason why he deserves to be fired than I can't argue. With that. Right. If everything that happens on a team has to be the coach's fault, because he's in charge, then Okay, then fire away Joe Sakic. But if you look at what Cause this problem. What would cause the apps to lose this series and then weigh it against what Jared Bednar has done for this organization since he stepped in a few years ago. And you still think that Jared Bednar deserves to be fired then? Then you and I just don't see eye to eye on this subject. Which I know, you know, Really? I'm sure hurt your feelings right that you don't have, Uh, no way Vegas can win for the next five guy disagreeing with you. But there's there's another part of this. That I think is just not being brought up enough. And it's fine if you bring it up and then and then, uh, knock it down. Right, but I haven't even seen people bring it up. In a normal year. This would be the matchup in the Western Conference final. Okay. This was A year where The two best teams in all the West played in the second round, and not the third. And the reason I bring that up is if this series would have played out the exact same way. Don't change the thing. Plays out the exact same way. But it's in the Western Conference finals. Would people be calling for Jaerbyn are to be fired. Because I don't believe they would be. Because it would be a disappointing end to a season where we saw progress, but because of the quirks of the schedule They ended up playing in the second round, and now it looks like the avalanche are stagnating. This team needs a scalpel, not a chainsaw. In firing Jared Ben, are Is taking a chainsaw to this team. And if you're calling for Jared Bernard to be fired, then I think it is the knee jerky ist of all knee jerk reaction. But But if you're set in your mind, and you think Jared Bednar needs to be gone, then I will bring up the easiest question to bring up. Contending that who's better? Who's better? You think Jared Bednar should be fired? Okay? He's fired. Wave magic wand. Jared Bednar is gone. Do you get in to replace him? Who you gained to replace him that you know for a fact. Will give the Avalanche a better chance. You go to a Stanley Cup final than Jared Bednar has given them There aren't a lot of guys on the unemployment line wearing Stanley Cup rings. Okay. Every Stanley Cup winning head coach over the last 10 years is employed. Currently accept Claude Julien. And the thing about Claude Julien is that He only won a Stanley Cup after guess what getting bounced in the second round multiple years. So if you think that Claude Julien is the right guy to bring in because he's won a Stanley Cup Just know that he only won a Stanley Cup because the organization he worked for did not bail on him after multiple early playoff exits. So And then don't forget that Claude Julien was fired this season. By the Montreal Canadians. He was fired and now look at what the Canadians are doing. That's not a great reflection of Claude Julien is ability to lead is it that once he fired the Montreal Canadians take off..

You know, whatever you want to talk about. It's your show as much as mine if you've seen Loki, let me know. If it's any good, I can't. I've been without the kids all week, so I can't watch. Low key Until they come back. Cause I'm a good father, Daniel. You didn't hear you come in to hear me Talk about Loki. Uh, let's talk about Jared Bednar, because I think that is the biggest question after last night's game is is whether A change needs to be made. In the, uh On the coaching side in order to get the AVS over this second round hump that they seem to be stuck at and and I get it. It's natural to wonder when you see a team underachieve. And either the AVS either underachieved because you thought they would win the series or they under achieved because of the way they lost the series, But either way There was a level of under achievement this year that I acknowledge and I think your mind immediately in sports goes to the head coach and whether that is the position that is, um Is the one that needs to be changed and look as the old saying goes, but it's so true, it's easier to fire the coach than the players, right? Wait. I just have this question and I'm not Trying to lead on this or anything like that. I'm legitimately just throwing out the question. And then I'll give you my thoughts on on the Subject. If you think that Jared Bednar should be gone, What did he do wrong in this series? I'm not saying he's blameless. Top down. Everyone's to blame here. Um, I will blame The Avalanche mascot. Partly for this loss. I will blame everybody. Because this is a blame everybody situation but to go from blame, too. He deserves to be fired. You need to lay out what he did wrong that prevented the Colorado Avalanche from winning this series. Did he take too long to find ways to get his first line away from Vegas First line Maybe. But Vegas had last change last night, and McKinnon and Rantanen did pretty well. So Was that the issue? Was Jared Banner, the one that allowed William Karlsson to rip the puck away from him was that Was that him out on the ice that did that? Did he get suspended for blowing up Justin Falk in the Blue Series? Did he turn over the pocket? On the blue line on Game five. I mean, these are These are the things That we look to On why the Avalanche lost this series and I don't know how much of it Can be attributed to Jared Bednar. This is a guy who since he arrived in Denver, and he arrived without much fanfare. And just for those of you who don't know the story, Patrick Waugh decided to quit. Because he was beefing with his old buddy Joe Sakic about control of the roster, so he just quit. And and That was it. He didn't give advance notice. He didn't. He did it later on in the offseason than you would like, but he just quit and just walked away. And the Avalanche were less scrambling. And there weren't a lot of great candidates and the Avalanche had to look to the A. H. L Or college in order to find their next head coach, and there were two names that really emerged from the beginning. And it was Travis Green, and it was Jared Bednar. Now. Travis Greene did not get the Avalanche job. He ended up in Vancouver. And you've seen how Vancouver seems to have squandered a pretty talented roster. So far in these last couple of years. Certainly this year. Gender. Bender comes in. And ever since he has pushed every right button. This is a team last year. That loss had more man games lost than any other decent team in the NHL. They were able to Keep up a high level of play. While having a revolving door of players because of all the injuries. This is a guy that has been nominated for the Jack Adams. Not today, by the way. Joe Quenneville of the Panthers, the head coach of the wild and I'm gagging on the third guy. Wasn't de Boer, Who's the Oh Rob Brenda more In Carolina. Who by the way, is also Eliminated from the postseason. And so is Joe Quenneville. And so is the guy in Minnesota. So There you go. I don't know that that has any correlation. It just Worth pointing out, I suppose. So this is someone who has been nominated for the Jack Adams that is pressed every right button since he got here. And neither of the last two playoff exits were at all attributed to him. Nobody blame Jared Bednar. These last two years, but he gets blamed for this one. And, uh, blame so much so That very well respected columnist. That iron due respect. I respect Woody Paige. He is a legend. Could not disagree with his latest column in an exempt more I could not disagree More. First of all, if you're going to say heads need to roll, and then you point out Patrik Nemeth and same Gerard, I don't know that that's quite going very far that quite Lines up with heads need to roll. I mean, I guess they are heads that may need to roll, but they're not the most important players. On this roster. But then he brings up Jared Bednar..
