"It is an event in New York. The weather makes it difficult. And we just happened to have great weather, even though it was frozen. We had really good clear weather and when union Jackson came out, Eric went to talk. I was like, no, no, you know, don't don't. And he said man, he looks really good. He's really because he was right off the track last year, you know, and he was Manny looks really good. I thought I'll think. Well, Becky, I I wanna slip in your your at bar nine. And you've got your consignment, then you've got the Brahmin horses and a really nice variety. You're you've got an MC Philly and orb Colt hard spun Colt to mission impassable 's a Freud, Philly an alpha affiliate and a flatter Colt. Those are those yours and then of nice variety of little everything. There's a tap it for the Brahmins the American pharaoh you mentioned out of KYW botch, and oh the tap. It's out of artists. Sacra terra the Mike ocean. Tara, I I that size were he he looks like a grey Pyner the Nile what I describe it artists herself was massive are not was she is massive. She's very was a lot of times those I flow. Foles will be a little smaller. Now, she's really big, and he's really big very big and athletic artists, though. Even though she was very big she was one of our precocious horses. She and a hard spun Philly were the first of that crop that I set out for mister Roman early because she was quick. So this cold is taking after her and that he's really quick nice. Yeah. Nice. Well, the you look poised couple of forty tales as well. I mentioned the American Farrow and uncle MO Philly and alpha affiliate. We've got the the forty tales half to highway star. Yeah. Well, how how was it for for the bromance to be selling Phillies? How many typically would he ever sold? Any? I didn't think. So I thought that he had retained that that philosophy sell the colts keep the Phillies now he had the philosophy of race everything. So he last year was first year that we sold every like we were trying to like we develop took a ladder. We developed took a ladder. But for the that was a group of Mary's that we bought to be able to breed, you know, to that horse. But as far as his overall breeding philosophy has been totally to race. So we sold a couple last year and as yearlings and some in the two year old sales. And then this year, it's pretty much. It's everything if there's a horse that say Brahman horse. It doesn't go to this. Because we've had some setbacks or just not capable. Well, Becky Thomas, certainly has proven herself capable time and time again and sequel for for those that want to see everything the website equal. How's the sequel New York? Yeah. It's a great website. Oh, come visit. Well, come visit Becky bar nine and the sale starts tomorrow..

"Even though I've got some horses that I think. Wow. That would be great. I don't think. So it will remain a boutique sale, but everyone expects when they go there they expect to be able to to pay big bucks in my situation. Because I felt like it was best for Mr. Brahmin to be able to market his horses in a place close to home as many of them together mister Brahmins, horses are all predominantly we do have some Morse's investing Maryland that are going to be later horses are being marketed here. But I it was I felt terrible. Because boy Browning's one of my favorite people also, and I have a couple horses that I was headed down in Miami. With that I won't be going there. I would have been down their head. I not had the situation with Mr. Brahma where I didn't wanna have I wanna leave a set of horses. I wanna go down there. And then we worried about these. I did have to ask about laya ban too. I didn't want that to slip by how many how many crawfish boils and Gumbo. Cooks were figured into the contract. How many times do you have GO come down to the farm and Hudson and cook, well they were at? Business is a look alike and John vermillion villain deal. John the first two years, they they came for our Stein show, which I was deathly afraid I mean, the New York population is not used to seeing you know. The the chip and John show, and I got a little smarter about it. I talked to Mike Miranda. Who's the owner of southern of southern equine owes like okay now, look make sure that you know, Eric it because Eric as you know, speaks exactly what he thinks. And and I, you know, have representatives of other stallions there. And of course, he did manage to raise his hand and keep talking about others, which one do you think about he would ask other stallion people that were speaking when they're rare representing there. Don't you think my ours is, you know, I mean, he's crazy. But everyone in New York because they are anomalies, you know, I mean, there's just not a big cage population and upstate New York. But we did this year. Chip had a little health issue that he was unable to cook. And I've always had like a separate menu of how to Cajun menu. And then a a just a regular eastern New York northern New York kind of menu. And so this year, I because I didn't have any notice. So I had our regular caters prepare Gumbo. And of course, Eric, oh, I can't wait. Hanky panky Gumbo. It was quite by the way, it wasn't like there, but it was good through fuddy filter Oh my here. gosh. She's been kind of quiet the truth when union Jackson came out for the show this year, and he started. I mean, you're obviously not supposed to talk where have the floor for each stallion and Arstein Stein shows are very well attended because we feed people very well into it's an event, and it's unlike open houses and Kentucky where they have access to this Dalian's, you know, really by appointment pretty much anytime..

"I mean, southern equine could not have been more supportive. They have fifty percent ownership. They are all in. I mean, there is a laya ban half to the sale topper phasing July last year not last year two thousand seventeen the Medaglia Philly. I mean, those that's those are bright moves, and there's a lot of brave moves like that to where people that are vested in the program. You know, have put some like twin creeks breeding Expresso shot. Well, expressive shot that's a mission impossible. That's New York sired that one race twin creeks earned where we're capped per race at forty thousand for the breeder were capped at ten thousand for this. Diane. They are the primary owners mission impossible. So they they earn very close to fifty thousand dollars as being a breeder and owner of the i-in for that race. And and I'll I'll make a quick point in. And then I got a follow up. But for those that wonder, and our and get, you know, get wild-eyed about horses leaving the track and seemingly being taken out of competition early. When you hear those numbers understand that when you get a stallion prospect, and you have the interest in them, and you can get them off the track and basically take money off the table. It's the only way you can do it to survive. And when you hear people like Charlotte Weber who I remember asking about about the Donner and serve and brilliant speed. And she said she said, and she was funny about it. She goes, I even even I cannot lose seven eight million dollars a year and justify being involved in this. You said you have to take off the table. Seth Clarkson another perfect example. They're doing that. Because you just can't you just can't bleed money. And you know, it's not a bottomless pit. I would never do what we do in New York in any other state simply because of the program. I mean, it is been a situation where we have led this Diana awards for many many years. We have led the breeders words this show mister bromide beat us. We're going to allow that train for them could not, you know, I think we. We were for sure second. But you know, he breeds incredible roster of horses that I'm so thrilled to be able to train how how is his departure and the Brahmins planned departure from the scene the winding down of their operation. How is it going to impact not just the York? But the the game in general, a huge impact in New York because he has equally split his mayor base between New York sires and Kentucky sires I mean highway star as Jerusalem. Oh, or so we stood for Darley that first year. And you know, he he will take those kind of horses. They are literally equal. So, you know, his departure is fluid and that he he is not you know, like where it selling groups of were selling the two year olds share what he does, you know, going forward. We'll be depend. You know, he's doing a state planning to be able to make sure that there are no loose ends. I'm feeling like he's going to have a successful sale where he feels like it's viable to continue what he's doing on some scale for some time. He just doesn't want to depart anywhere without having any Lucid's. He's very he's a very very generous wonderful person that that win the highway star win at del. Mar. And looking at at Chester and Mary Brahmin, Ed. Seconds after the win. It was so sweet. And I I mean, obviously, there's countless and virtually ever. I mean, everybody that that wins, you know, you're happy for but for for him to have that moment, and you know, in the in with all the commitment. He's had they had over that gates from when the New York program was literally, you know, just backyard the backyard program. So what's interesting about that particular race? I'd like to take credit, but you're trying to to bar of gold bar of goals. That's right here. And she's a she's a Medaglia. The only reason the of gold went I mean, sixty six to one is because of highway star Hiwa star was on top of her game. And she was just rocking. And he Mr..

"Brahmin loves he's very very loyal to his trainers. He is John camels trained for him for. I'd say upwards of twenty five years close to it. Anyway, but Rodriguez has trained robbery go Euboea who's trained for him for many years. I mean, what an opportunity for robbery go to go to the Breeders Cup. So Mr. Brooklyn was like, yeah, we're going to the Breeders Cup Rodriguez. Go into the Breeders Cup, very very very important. And so then he said, you know, we might as well, take Bhargav. And and I said, well, what's Johnson about that? And he said, I don't know, but I'm gonna talk him into it. And I was like, okay. So I talked to John and John's like, well, you know, you he wants to go and chilly exciting. That was all Mr. Brahmin. That's great great story. Well on the on the track apron on the path from the paddock. Gabby good. That night. We're standing there and Bargo was one of the last go by as they were heading up to shoot. And she don't believable. Unbelievable and Gabby had made a comment pre race. And then we saw her and I ended up ended up sending in a couple of. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was sterile. I mean, I just unbeliev. And actually, I mean her I had a lot of things live to. Amy's to chose E carols. Who ran a tremendous race? Get beat the final jump. "We will have to five hundred thousand dollars in stakes. But if you're asking someone like me, I was not I think that Mr. Panza and are the head of the New York breeding and development fund, Tracy Egan as well as the head of our New York breeding fund or our New York breeding program Jeff can use. Oh, I've worked really really hard to be able to say what is going to affectively drive up our numbers. I don't know. And I I I have a lot of mayors. We are the leading Stein farm simply by numbers by awards. Those numbers added to the science states still only benefit a race card of eighty horses. Eighty owners those those I don't know a single person that has said to me what gosh I want to send a couple. More mayors to New York because you guys have science sakes program thought or not. Our situation is that the majority of art breeders are now commercial breeders, they don't breathe to race. I mean, you look twenty years ago, you look thirty years ago, certainly, but even you look five years ago and the economics of the industry have forced a lot of commercial breeders where they had they sold a few horses to be able to support racing there. Many many many more breeders sell commercially to support the farm they're they are not breeding to race anymore. So when you look at commercial, you're going to which is why you see in Kentucky. A horse Lake City of light. Here's a horse notwithstanding. I mean, I'm I mean, why do I have the Lieutenant 'cause might McCarthy was so instrumental in saying to me Becky, this horse trained lockstep with city alight. He said we had some issues and he said, but this is a really good horse. That means something for me from somebody that that that my horse trained with that horse, my horse I have to justify, but you know, you you take a horse like city light, which I am lucky enough to be a shareholder. So you like. Well, you know, our investment we look really smart. Well, we make a lot of investments that don't look. I mean because our market is what used to be the fourth year before you kinda had like, oh, we don't know about that sire wait till they run. Now. It's the flavor of the moment. I mean this year we're going to bring a lot of horses to this one's die. You will next year. There's another stallion they're going to read a lot of horses to on that topic. I and of course, the season's just underway. Really only three and a half and about three and a half weeks old that stallion roster of Freud alpha destined laya ban mision impassable Stephanos e and the the Lieutenant also union Jackson, the hot Dixie chick, son. How many you don't have to specify? But I mean in terms of a full book what what makes it work for you for that kind of a variety of Sally's, including you know, the the newest ones. I look at I'm not going to change the demographics of what the entire industry is doing. Which is what we do. In New York is exactly what happens in Kentucky, which is your first year. "How far you're going to go was to turn to far for this horse right now, where am I gonna do? I point for Preakness and regroup. I don't know what we're gonna do yet. But we're it's nice to have the problem with the Tessie, yo as a winning in type for the Preakness might be a terrific avenue might be Erlich. Oh, look at you. All right, folks. You got an early you got it. There you go. You got there's no there's no Preakness future wager. But there it is always one of our favorite desserts. The one thing we didn't talk about is the Monmouth situation, which you gotta gotta you gotta be delighted I'm trying to gear up. I am. A little light on horses right now. And we're winning. We're putting them in good spots winning and getting claimed which isn't the worst thing. So we're we're trying to whether of them going to be claiming more in Florida claims some in Kentucky by some horses here all over the place that whatever I could do to get one in in the barn. That's what I'm trying to claim one and you want or you want you want Kelly to buy one Kelly John Breen on Twitter. And there you go you're he'll he'll put you in the business right away. You got to you guys Kelly. He might have won the Belmont Stakes. But let's out for those two races that mama to don't kid yourself. Absolutely. Absolutely. We can by all rights, we should break. But we won't because I don't want to take too much time from Becky Thomas. And back. Would you rather use the I don't want the hairs are you don't mind the headset? There you go put that slap that right on. And I forgot to take a picture of Kelly to put it up on the on the on the on the on the tweet machine. What what a pleasure you've not been on the show in like eight years I easily easily. Yeah. I haven't seen you know, which is funny. And I and whether I don't know why. But you're you're grafted to the Barnes. And when it comes to the New York sale and whatever else where and he sailed that you turn up, but certainly certainly your profile. Was established early and continues to shine. Thanks. We we've had to expand our parameters here and trying to be successful with our polarize industries. So we do quite a bit of breeding, obviously have the New York farm. And so I have up words of fifty mares now various partnerships in support stallions in New York as well as in Kentucky. Well, and for those that for those that I mean, no the name because if you follow if you follow the breeding side and the sale side, you know, becky's name, but give everybody the the background because you've had an interesting an interesting series, and you've adjusted to the market conditions, basically. Well, really, I, you know, I started off my education is I have a BSN and from the university of Florida, I'm a nurse by decay. Shen? I have my whole background is cattle and Calpe knees and barrel racing. So I did that growing up and sort of Bill by seeing with some thoroughbred people and went straight into two year olds and so- pen hooking training is what I really really enjoy. I love training. I mean, there's nothing more rewarding than training. A like the Philly that we watch Chester day a half sister to I mean, it's rewarding training something that you actually did the meeting on and have the mother and all that stuff. But you know, the market we start off buying just yearlings for two year olds. And then dropped down the Huilan's to your Lund's. And then we Lund's the two year olds. And you know, we don't have thirty five thousand registered. Thoroughbred foals anymore. We have twenty one change. And for those that that might have picked up on the reference. Becky, and you know, this under the sequel stabbing in brand bread split time that yesterday ran eight dynamite race against the vine misc- gray who is really northeast the eastern half of the country's..

"So he said, maybe maybe to maybe we Ling's maybe eurelling. So basically, he said all closest seventy five percent of these have been through essay. Also, some of our bought bought earlier, obviously and trying to sell them here make little profit and and move on. But it's quite an interesting experience. Well, of course, you talk about the what's gonna go on today, and what's already gone on since the start of the breach show portion. And we, you know, we talk about it whenever we have sales opportunities. And the you talk about the interview phase. And there's little things that when it comes to seeing them up close looking at their confirmation closely. It's one thing to see them breeze. And you know, when it comes to then, you know, picking out and and fine-tuning slap those headsets. On k j b Kellie John Breen look at you with the epoch dreamer hat there. We go. That down. Are there? We there we go. Up and running at look at your your here. The early the early horsemen gets the south opera gets the worm. Congratulations on Erlich yesterday. Other winner. Absolutely. And in fact, trying to think was was that one of Franken had five. There you go. Good job. Good job. And you know, the first immediate thing we were talking hammer. Just started talking about the. The fine tuning and picking out. I got two questions on that front for you. One of the things I hear about perspective is here that. Makes it a little difficult the synthetic surface. How do you adjust for time and for performance on this surface into what was going to be for you operating almost exclusively on it's tough. I'm not a big fan of the Pali track. See some of the horses. You have some stuff that's over here. That's. Horses by kitten's joy advocates joy, mayor in particular that I went to see, and I said, this might be a poly. You know, it's got a little bit of a turf foot purchase worse as got the horse epic dreamer. That's that's you know, a nice worse that we bought him here. It's a tough tough deal. I wish it was there. I know the consigners that are here. They like it. Maybe to say clump sources a little bit more together for them and eliminate some of the worst of the ones, you know, the duds that everybody's trying to avoid as part of business, but it is tough. And you know, you do have to do your homework and look at the videos lot has to do with the stride. And hopefully that you can see what you can see. Wanted to mention Kelly. Brought that up synthetics all weather surface here at Ocala. I think it's the only major sale that has has that. And I believe one of the reasons they do it with the three days of when it come up to April. They're going to have six days of of breach. Oh, it's easier to keep the track a little bit more consistent. And I think it's just for that. So, you know, if if even if we get a little bit of rain that tracks days pretty much the same shape, and so they don't want some of the breezes on Monday..

"Hundred fifty sixty horses a day going by you know, one each every, you know, six seven minutes, so it just the three day run. So that check that out then we had yesterday and today the two days before the sale kind of consider that the interview face walking around yesterday and and potential buyers that go out and ask for a horse to be brought out, and they'll check it out and jogging up and down the Kelly brain, welcome by that. JP the stars. Where's where's the snappy hat? He's gonna swing. So I guess it's kind of an interview phase where perspective buyers will go by and and they like a certain horse that they thought they liked on the track. They'll pull them out and get a firsthand look at them jog him up and down the path there and put them back in and and repeat that all day. Today's another one of those type of days where they'll they'll finalize. And then the draft which starts tomorrow today's of the sale where all that information's been disseminated and they come in. And and we start the auction, and it's a it's a pretty interesting process. How how this is done very professional, very, you know, very matter of factly. But the waves of the people that come in. I guess said the scouts come in early. And and kind of do some legwork groundwork setting the stage, and then the owners will start showing up and and they'll review the the shortlist that they've got in front of them and inspect and. Bidden milk day at home run. But I'm gonna say I I asked Tom Ventura who's been such a gracious host to us to you know, how many of these I ask them how many horses have been through the ring before before they caught your..

"The disappointment involved for Cassie in the team with dream maker who got completely compromised right off the break at Tampa Bay. And. Spotted the field and the race was over for him twenty yards in. But again, he'll look for something else. Todd Chad Brown with a nice weekend. Particularly Tampa so much to look at some like it hot Brown and Mike maker, and he just continues to March through the synthetic surface avenue at turf way, Wesley ward with a great. Series of performances from his horses at the turf way on Saturday as well. So lots digest on the racing front. The sale side of things this OB as seen that. I was so excited to come up here when it occurred to me that we could do it and happy to be here. And it is just absolutely gorgeous. What time Torah and his team have done here. And first time I've seen it. And i'm. I my first impression was I can't believe how big the places I did realize what you think of it as kind of kind of the provinces, and instead it's a sprawling complex that is absolutely fantastic with the track and that portion of it twenty plus Barnes and even room to grow and s this sale gets things going the two year olds will be coming through. They've already had the, of course, the days of breeze show activity. There's lots of review going on today will be an inspection day as the prospective buyers comb the six hundred on paper in the Cadillac and is probably about one hundred outs. So probably five hundred through the ring. And we'll we'll talk to Becky Thomas who's here. The breeder consign. From New York who has got a wonderful, reputation and may have the sale topper. It could turn out early. Tomorrow will be here tomorrow when the sales activities starts just just just at our side here just to our left in the beautifully renovated auditorium. Of course. In addition to the racing action that we're going to dive into there's plenty of business news that discuss and off the the racetrack kind of news, and then includes the future wager activity and much more than there's then there's the matter of the Santa Anita progress, and there has been progress. Speaking of Santa Anita you're on recap with us, and you you're making the grand tour. Everybody says I'm on this on this busman's holiday, but you're you're circulating. I am circulating. Steve's. It's it's great to hear you mentioned the building here. I was here November. And there was a lot of scaffolding and hammering going on. And they've really done a great job as you said, we're sitting in a lobby here could be the lobby to the fair season. Now. Down the street, but the sales arena what they've done here is fantastic. But for me, I don't get a chance to do this stuff. Right. Never have. I'm busy head down at the racetrack door and other stop. So I'm like a little like a fantasy camp type thing. And seriously, this is this is another side of the game that I don't pretend to know anything about or or never fake it. I did know anything about but I've been to a sale or two and. It is it isn't something that I really encourage any fan that that is near a sale. Just just go walk around sit down check out the scene all the people. But this run of five six seven days. I I compared to the NFL combine to tell you the truth so on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. That's where the the athletes perform they they line up one at a time and breeze in front of everybody that wants to see here the most of the scouts. I call him. I guess or here, you know, hundred hundred and fifty people time in the time in the horses of, you know, watching them go by when they do that for three days as Steve said, there's think five hundred seventy seven horses with maybe ten to twenty percent scratch rate. So you think about one.

"You guys know the deal Wednesday, they usually announced the spread the word winner. Somebody that gives us the re tweet how my girl, Becky Thomas. I've probably sent Becky Thomas something before. She's probably one before, but I saw Bri where you tweeted out about the newsletter less, you know, for people that we send out an Email like probably once every two months, if we're being real about it, just when something happens. That reminds me of a story. We send that out and. We wanna make sure you guys get him. You know, these are real stories from my time. The NFL that I know you'll enjoy and I wanna make sure that you get. And so Brian tweeted at RTF podcast yesterday a link to where you can sign up for it by the way you can sign up on the homepage always and Becky retweeted. I like that Becky wasn't even the podcast itself. It was just Brian tweet about making sure people are getting the newsletter and you re tweeted it, so you will be rewarded. Speaking of that. It's being a writing. I don't know if you guys all my my Twitter or Facebook yesterday, but I, I actually signed with the Atletic very fired up about that for writing this year and had a story that get a lot of attention about the new kickoff rule. So hopefully you guys already subscribed to the athletic if you don't do the free trial and check out my story on the kickoff. I talked about how my career ended talked about my encounter with a guy named thump guy. If you like my stories on the show, you'll love, you'll love, love, love that story for the athletes. Yesterday, sponsor confirmation. Email winner will be Friday, and we're still giving out the free month of tuck aides to use studs. It Greg Cosell time. All right, Gregg. So now we've got two games in the books for every team. We've got a chance to see a lot of these young quarterbacks. Even more definitely want ask you about Josh, Allen, Josh Rosen, Pat Mahomes there. Some of the guys I watched. Let's let's start though Greg with the jets and what you've seen the second time out. I guess I, I'll say was Sam darnold. Yeah, you know, it's funny. I didn't think he was quite as efficient in his second game as he was in his first game and. Ultimately, what I'd say is I think the way he plays and it might be his natural state Ross is a little sort of frenetic and chaotic. You know, his feet are not necessarily comfortable all the time, and that just may be the way he plays. But he was not as clearly not quite as comfortable to me watching the tape in his second outing s he was in his first outing. You know what's funny, Greg, and you'll appreciate this as much tape as you watch Kevin feel like watching Peyton Manning in the pocket and his feet, that if he wasn't Peyton Manning, you would say this guy's crazy jittery in the pocket. No question. And that's why there's quarterbacks like that through the years for different reasons. I remember when Philip rivers came out of North Carolina State and maybe it's because I'm a purist, would the position based on my background and the people I've gotten to to to spend a lot of time with over my thirty nine years at NFL films, but darnold is is he may never be that guy. You know, he may just be that that that's the way he plays. So you know, I think that they were times it got him in trouble at USC and I'm anxious to see as he progresses the jets have been very strong and saying how well he's doing obviously, unless you're there every day, none of us. No, that, but he did some good things as well. I don't want to give the impression that he had a poor performance. I just didn't think it was overall as strong performance as his first one. So we we've been pretty clear about this over the years Greg, that when I ask you for a comparison era guy that somebody reminds you of, you're not saying that that's who he is or that to we will be, but just someone that there's some similarities for people, mentally when I watch ofensive lineman or even like the draft, I watched Joanna Williams recently..
