How Becky Hammon Played a Pivotal Role in the Spurs Win Over the Heat

"Last night spurs vs hate five point game with one twenty eight to go. Jimmy Butler goes inside gets a questionable foul goes up for an Amazon and Derek. whyte clearly goten so so that would have made it a three point game which down to the line for possibly an one and it was a bad call on the file? It was clearly even a bad cold on the continuation and as well that he was able to get that. But the referees cold it and Popovich was upset as he always is but you can clearly see Pop Matha words no no challenge. Alan J says no challenge so basically say okay and then becky comes running off the sciences. Basically why not challenge it we got one. It's a time out. Just challenge it. Yeah so the referees do challenge it or excuse me and the Spurs do challenge it and that took twenty eight seconds after they ruled that the basket was good the Jimmy Butler continuation. This just dragged on and on and on us so they got to within the thirty cents challenge wins. They did right from the time that they adjudicated that the goten went down. But this was after a minute. With bolster their yell like watch. This is hilarious. Hot Hot dealing it is also the rest of your right Becky's in. They're trying to tell both results going like well. It's pops out. I want to get into shouting match pop here but any anyway away. They ultimately overturned the continuation. So they call the fair. which was a GBS fell onto rosie Jimmy Butler sort of imbalance anyway? So the Spurs. Get the ball inside out of bounds. But they're down they remain down five rather than potentially ran down to Jimmy about the free throw line gets fat and makes to anyway right but still I mean becky convincing pop to challenge. Save them at minimum one point. And you know he's right calls and considering the spurs right now. They need every single win. They can and ultimately the the heat didn't score again. After Jimmy Butler free-throw Robinson had the chance to tie decent decent look at three and he'd been on the game but but it was just hilarious. How how how crazy it Kinda was and how long it took you know? It's very funny. I was watching the heat broadcast castle watching the away broadcast on leap pass. When all this is happening I mean if you can fire it up like go look at it? Whoever's operating the the the bug the score bug for the heat broadcast is so confused I swear to God it changes four times in the span of like thirty seconds around all of this? It's like yeah it's like one or two and then it's back to like goes to ninety nine it's overdue one hundred and was like l.. Would've been I would've paid so much money to be in in that in that truck with the director producer yelling at the score operator like hell wrong and they literally just give up and take it off. The screen could not out figure out what the hell the school. That's the thing that I understood if the challenge was on the continuation of fail because when you're in the arena you like so what what's going on and then it was like okay. The challenge elhage was upheld but it still heat ball so it was like it was crazy. But anyway the spurs one and Becky like like I say pup he he gives up he gives up and he says no no challenge to the refs and so at that point should take it well. That's what you said that it but instead twenty seconds the windows open the window is still open just Just a crazy little into that game

"Be joined by sister coach Becky Hammon from outside the spurs lock Roman Becky just at your thoughts overall today's game I mean they they give us a good punch in the first quarter I thought physicality was not very good kind of his fallen around defense was definitely not where it needs to be tonight I thought they had some shots I thought they had some contested shots but we just didn't have the physicality that we needed to start the game yeah they were also getting some threes off they went six for ten in that first quarter back in they shot fifty eight percent overall for the field so they get off to a very good start and it's like ill nonverbal quite recovered from that they never really were able to get that gad lead back close knowing you know that's gonna I mean those are just numbers and and like I said there are some that I felt like were somewhat contested and there's others were you know nobody was near him it's a tough team they got a lot of scores there's a lot of guys that can put the ball in the hole on that team and I I just felt like you know to like today's a call on the defensive end to start off and then we never really could crawl back out of it I thought they were sometimes you know we cut it to to to thirteen a couple times and then you know you start crawling back and somebody would go down to make a mistake you know it is some of it is is silly mistakes it simple is talking and obviously give up nineteen points off the fifteen turnovers to an ad when this team takes care of the ball they generally tend to play much better but I you gave up some fast break points obviously nineteen to seven in points off turnovers when you don't take care of the ball the cast at the other end yeah I mean we got to take care of the ball obviously that puts a tremendous amount of pressure on our our transition defense but even in the half court I thought we had we we didn't close out well people that we wanted typically keep in front you know drove right passes then in that in that seems a little bit from the hot shooting you know now you get up a little bit tighter now people you know so everything kind of hangs up but we did not protect the paint the way we needed to and a lot of that was sent from turnovers but a lot of it was just straight line drives poor close outs it and that's on that's on us offense we only forty percent the feel what could be better there I thought we got some decent looks didn't go in obviously I felt like we were trying to get attack we just didn't finish well yeah I mean some labs you know one he had some we missed some ducks tonight and that happens I thought we did a good job of attacking the paint get into the free throw line but when we did get in there we just and finish I felt like some just rolled out and you know when you're behind the eight ball right from go you need everyone else to drop all the markets had thirty nine points last game the only took four shots in twenty six minutes were they doing anything different defense later tried tonight lamarcus this evening well the first couple times you know they came with a double team he takes it out he did what he could do but we're gonna have to go back and you know we just we got to get him involved in their certain times where he's going to involve himself but at the end of the day it wasn't about the offense was about the defense giving up a hundred thirty five thirty plus in every quarter is is just unacceptable okay Becky thanks very much for your time we appreciate it thanks that is Becky Hammon assistant coach for the spurs again the spurs fall to the Celtics one thirty five one fifteen it's a season high for an opponent they also shot fifty one percent from the floor so the spurs fall in the record now dropped to five and for the Celtics who won seven straight up losing their opener they won seven straight there seven one as we mentioned at the end of the game broadcast the Celtics of now snapped a seven game losing streak in San Antonio we'll take a look at some individual scoring.

"Even a casual nba fan knows that lebron james and his cavaliers are still in the playoffs and out west the warriors and rockets are tied at one game each in their best of seven series it takes a somewhat closer observer to keep track of nba coaching vacancies but the magic pistons raptors their team still looking for a coach and yesterday the milwaukee bucks hired a coach of their own now one candidate for that milwaukee job also mentioned for the pistons job that's still open is becky hammon she's an assistant with the best run team in the nba the san antonio spurs and a former player and by all accounts of brilliant basketball mind one of the writers who provided such an account is louisa thomas who wrote for the new yorker the story how far can becky hammon go in the nba and also joining me is perhaps the biggest spurs fan on the planet shays serano who writes for the ringer and is the author of basketball and other things i guys thanks for joining me thank you what a what there you go so here's the question and this was at least on some versions of your new yorker piece louisa how far can becky hammon go in the nba she can become a head coach it can be a long process even if you're a serious candidate as gripe popovich told me their assistance who are fantastic assistance who are you know on the second row for ten fifteen years before they really get a serious shot so it's not remarkable that it's taking awhile so share your perhaps the biggest spurs fan on the planet when popovich the legendary head coach of the spurs put hammond on on the payroll and hired her as a coach what were you thinking i was thinking this is fantastic you know of course it would be popped in the spurs would be the first ones to do this i i r as like an actual assistant coach yeah everybody yeah fulltime as'son everybody in san antonio was very excited about it i mean she had she.

"Oh and another thing this week's that's what she read is from the new yorker last month by louisa thomas the headline is how far can becky hammon go in the nba it's from a couple of weeks ago but relevant now of course as we're hearing that becky ham and will interview for the head coaching gig for the milwaukee bucks and it just a great wide ranging profile talking about her time in the wnba her time as an assistant with the spurs her love of basketball and there's a couple of things that sadat to me here's a quick segment many people speculate that hammond will be the nba first female head coach not least because she has popovich support talking to him in though i was struck by her ambivalence about her role as a pioneer she recognizes that she's an inspiration for many young women and a target for many wary men at the same time she resists the attention to her gender quote if you don't wanna female coach don't hire one she said with some exasperation but she continued if you wanna hire somebody who's qualified and we'll do a good job then maybe you should sydor me her goal is not to save the sport from itself or to prove that women can thrive in male dominated professions she doesn't have time to worry about taking on doubters quote my motives shouldn't be to change people's minds she said my job is to be the best that i can be and if that changes your mind then great but i can't be consumed with how you feel about me it's interesting because i think on twitter in life on tv there's a necessity for both women like the becky heavens of the world's doors burks of the world the jessica mendoza's of the world that don't spend a lot of time talking about the disparity between men and women in male dominated fields they just go out there and kick ass and they inspire those around them and they proved out is wrong by virtue of just being great and then there's also a need for those who are willing to have open and honest conversations about the issues so that they carry people along into twenty eighteen and that they make those issues and those problems more prominent and more more disgust and i think becky hammon has done herself a service in that she has been focused.

"It's a sure thing at all and nobody knows besides for brian and i'm just guessing couple of notes from the nba coaching wise david fizzed ale who everybody loves as new head coach of the knicks it seems like it's a good higher by the knicks i don't think it helps them get lebron i know there's been some speculation that that could help them get lebron i can't see any way lebron at thirty four years old is gonna go play for a franchise that's done nothing but lose pretty much for two decades so i i don't see that but i do think david fidel on paper is a good higher now will he be given a chance to succeed you know every coach there is a lot of the coaches have been you know not been able to do their job because of the gm's we we we know all the litany of problems that organization the owners terrible salary cap situation bad they're bad contracts on the books so you know we'll see porzingis a bad injury at the end the last year but i do like the higher being hiring becky hammon was an assistant coach i first full time female assistant coach is interviewing for the job of the bucks i believe there's a few coach if you assistance from the spurs interviewing there and i think this is really cool i've talked about this a few weeks ago it's time for a female head coach a male sport we as men need to get over it and grow up and stop being such neanderthals becky hammon is a talented player was talented player so good coach she led their summer league team now she's not that experience has been around that long so if it takes a little longer you know it's not the end of the world but i think at some point she's going to be worthy of a shot now she's going to get it here with milwaukee it's gonna take an owner who's got some some guts some some because they'll be it'll be criticized unfairly and they'll be and there'll be some players on the team that probably will have a hard time with it unfortunately but that will exist it's going it's not going to be easy for the.

Becky Hammon, San Antonio Spurs assistant, to interview for Milwaukee Bucks opening

"Hey one more thing have you heard about it potentially monumental hiring in the nba any not surprising backlash that has already come along with it because of course it is i have the milwaukee bucks are planning to interview becky hammon the san antonio spurs assistant and i'm just looking at whoa ges thread right here on twitter and the second comment after the first comment was she's earned it the second comment is she's the fourth assistant on san antonio's bench literally no one thinks that she's earned it and i was like wow dude who hate to take away from that moment but she's the first women's assistant coach she is already breaking down all kinds of bear she will be interviewed to be the milwaukee bucks head coach i dunno she'll get the gig but as she did man what an electric pairing right there you've got another next face of basketball in the greek freak paired with potentially the first female mail coach in any major american professional sport and i don't know why you would lie i don't know how you could hate on this checks a ton of different boxes.
