Georgetown's Prof JoAnn Volk Discusses Health Care Sharing Ministries

"Joanne Lemme, ask to begin. What's generally the history? or how did these healthcare sharing ministries come about? Well, they've been around for decades, and they're generally for religious communities that opt not to have insurance instead to agree to share. One another's medical expenses think of like the Amish community, rallying around to rebuild a a barn after the. Fire similarly you know folks look to their community to to offset their healthcare costs rather than enroll in insurance in the ACA when they were crafting the individual mandate that said that everyone has insurance, unless you can show a good reason not to say about affordable or some other reasons, there was an exemption created for people who are in healthcare. Sharing mysteries so long as they were enrolled in one that made us specific definition that was in. DEPORTABLE CHARACTE! Okay thank you so these. Go back quite a long while they originally a religious affiliated. My understanding is less so today, and they really became more popular over the last few decades. In fact I'll just note here in my research. It's uncertain, but it appears that as many as a million Americans now hold. one of these plans. Let's go to specifics. Relative to what you're getting or how these health care sharing ministries work, so can you generally describe? These are how they work. Well so at their core. They are not insurance, so there is no guarantee that you will get payment for any of your health care costs if he were a member, but the way they are structured, members pay monthly. Share, it's called a share monthly fee to the healthcare sharing master to be a member and then you can submit as a member. He can submit your health care bills, and so long as they meet the requirements of healthcare sharing ministry, they may be shared with other members who will either directly send a check to you or send the check to the healthcare sharing ministry to redistribute to the members who need help offsetting healthcare costs. But the trick is that It. The though it's not insurance there a lot of features that look a lot like insurance to consumers that are shopping for coverage and frankly act a lot like insurance so. Where there's a deductible in your assurance plan. They call it unshareable amount where you have to pay out of pocket. You know two thousand dollars per medical event before you can submit something for sharing the monthly contribution is to find typically by age number of people in the household and enrolled in some cases. can be adjusted based on whether or not. You have a healthy lifestyle. Were had risk factors unhealthy lifestyle There's a very specific definition of what services can be covered. You know type Beatty's, but not type one prescription drugs only up to six months no pre existing conditions will be covered without a weight dollar limits on the benefits that. That can be covered, so there are a lot of aunts and many even refer to provider network, and with ramifications for going out of network. You have to get prior authorization. You'll pay more if you go out of network so there are a lot of features that look and act an awful lot like an insurance particularly for consumers when they're looking at these documents but importantly, and I would argue it's actually not so close to short-term plans, because at least they're in their many tricks do not pay, but there is some contract between the insurer and the enrolled that there's supposed to be payment for covered services. There is never a promise to pay healthcare sharing ministry. Even if your doctor says it's medically necessary, and what you've gotten for, care is within the definition of what should be covered. Okay, so they're? They're not insurance, and they don't guarantee payment yet. You pay various fees, something that resembles a premium deductibles, etc.. So, what's the attraction why? WHY WOULD PEOPLE! participate in one of these. Well this work. It's a bit murky and I think even more so with the repeal of the individual mandate penalty I think originally there were people and there still are people who sign up for these because they don't believe in insurance, they would rather not pay their money to an insurance company, or would rather not part of a plan that covers certain things that they find morally objectionable, so I should point out that they typically exclude coverage for mental health and substance use disorder. As I said pre existing conditions, prescription drugs for more than six months so not. It's not useful to people with chronic conditions But They, so they will not cover those conditions but for consumer it looks a lot like insurance, and so there's some will by the policy. Because they don't believe it should be covering. Maternity out of me outside of marriage or something that might consider the result of unhealthy living like excessive drinking or drug use but others I think now or buying it because they see it as a more affordable alternative to aca plan, and in some cases, there are brokers in websites that are presenting them as or affordable alternative to ACA. Plan so there. They think they're getting something akin to insurance, but for a whole lot less money.

I have to ask you to comment because you wrote the. Rascal, King about James Michael Curley and I was thinking every time I drive on the Jamaica, way and pass by his own house. I think of your book and I think of him. It's unlikely that will ever see that kind of political figure again, or is it I mean we see it sort of in the White House perhaps, but seriously I mean a guy like that. Who was able to wheel and deal and cut through a lot of red tape, and also got himself in trouble and still stay in office. Is that possible anything like that today I I. Think you answered the question..

How much did you learn about the inner workings of the meetings themselves? We know much more about Chamberlain at the time. Perhaps than we did Hitler, what did you Glean from all of your research? Well, they're all. There are some records the first Truly was the most important. The minutes were only by Hitler's translator. Paul Schmidt was his name and there was a long suffering guy. And then later beating the two later meetings, and certainly in the last meeting you have British versions. When I was a child I got caught in one in a lifeguard ring to be real real good for it so I know like to. I'd like it's hard me so like I'm afraid of them now. All I know. If you can watch me so ship would what do you know about rip currents or is it rip current Riptide? I don't I always get that screwed Jess Joe. I guess the biggest difference between rip current and Riptide is that a rip current is generated by focused wave action or wave action creeping along a beach whereas riptide is generated by the flooding or draining of a coastal waterway. Or so for example. A riptide is like a steady constant thing that will basically like. It's a repeating process right because all the water that is upstream is now being pushed back out into the ocean that brackish water whereas riptide couldn't like form in something as small as a long a fifteen foot stretch of beach or it could be as long as you know a five hundred foot stretch of beach. Yes a little bit more variable and intermittent. Okay so what I hear what a rip tide is tied. Based so I think about the San Francisco Bay and how you have the ebbing and flowing tides and how those have very strong polls when they're doing that as opposed to beach contoured causing rip currents that's not dependent on the tide that can happen at any tide will. It's not beach contours. It's wave action relative to the beach so Waves that crash directly on the beach won't necessarily generate a riptide waves arrive angrily on a beach will generate a riptide consistently wall. Beatty everything you know about how to survive a rip could be wrong. What the article is basically saying? Is that what we teach people in general the keep it simple stupid method? Is that you swim parallel to the beach until you swim out of the riptide. After which point you can make your way back in now. What they did was they used INC tests. They did all types of different trace tests and they found out that summed up type to actually form almost figure eight pattern. They recycle into themselves. And so what they advocate for is not investing energy going with the Riptide And then trying to swim once. It's kicked you out so I don't WanNa without without talking to the person who published this. I don't WanNA come out too strong here. But what will say is that when it comes to teaching water survival. What coastal athlete program has taught since its founding and that we will teach until the day that you know they shut us down is that it is better to be an active participant in the scenario than a passive victim. So if you are in a riptide it makes more sense to swim with the tide. Right you walk with the escalator than it does to relax and wait for it to potentially pull you into an even worse situation if you generate momentum by swimming with the tide you can actually get enough speed to potentially break free of it a lot sooner

Burning out on Recovery

"Hi guys. Welcome to recovery happy hour where we talk about life beyond the bottle and what happens after we stop drinking. I'm your host Tricia and I am currently reading five books at the same time. Which means by next year I will have finished two books? Thank you for joining me. Well I want to talk about something that I've covered on the podcast briefly before. But it's time we revisit it with everything that still going on in the world with Kobe. Nineteen a couple of weeks ago. I sat on a panel for the Sandbar where you are live event that streamed online which by the was awesome. Thank you so much everybody that tuned in interacted and commented and sent messages in posted screen shots of your little zoom parties. It was incredible. So thank you for your support but back to it so I'm doing this. Qa Panel and someone asked about myself care routine right. Now what are you doing for self care? During covert nineteen and not to make this sound real quick beatty but the answer might surprise you to try to keep a normal routine during a global pandemic wall working from home wall. My pilates studio is unavailable. While I can't do seventy five percent of the things I normally like to do this stress that I'm acknowledging is probably a fraction of what I'm actually experiencing so for. Some of us are baseline is already place of extreme stress so when things are extra stressful our perception of what that feels like is probably pretty skewed so knowing that my tolerance for stress is already high and knowing that my perception of what a lot of stress feels like is probably pretty inaccurate. I've learned in the past three and a half years of sobriety that sometimes I need to do less recovery stuff. Yeah less so my answer to the Sandbar question was that I'm backing off of recovery stuff a little bit. I'm just going back to basics. I'm making sure I'm drinking enough water. Getting good sleep. I'm eating food. That's good for me and makes me feel good and trying not to eat pizza every day. I'm not doing the pilates. Homework outs that show up in my email. I just take my dog on a lot of walks. I go for a run if I have time. And I'm also backing off of therapy is counterintuitive. Is that sounds. I was starting to venture into some really deep. Inner child work. And let me tell you. That shit is work like capital w work really exhausted and right. Now I simply don't have the reserves for it so for me forcing the issue would have taken me to a place of just recovery. Burn out and recovery burn out. This might not be an actual phrase. I don't know if I made it up. Or what but the concept in itself is a real thing. Recovery burnout or recovery. Fatigue is when you're doing too much recovery stuff and you become drained from it and either WanNa throw in the towel completely or are so exhausted that you lose your tolerance to be able to say no to alcohol. I remember at about three months sober. I was going to like five or six meetings a week. I was checking in with my facebook accountability group all day every day. I was listening to recovery podcast every morning. Working out most days going to work. I had a morning routine of prayer meditation reading the Big Book Meeting with my sponsor. Working the steps going to therapy and try to be of service and help other people and early sobriety. In one morning I was so exhausted and frustrated because I had signed up for this group fitness class and was too tired to go but I had already paid for it and I pretty much just like having a giant meltdown and I called my sponsor and she listened to what my routine was and just kind of laughed and told me hate. Skip it that. It's no wonder I was so exhausted because I was doing so much and I didn't need to do it all every single day. And she was right and after that day. I just started to cherry pick. Just pick and choose my routine rather than at at all to my routine. I started to look at recovery in a different way that has largely stuck with me until now I do believe that we need to do some recovery every single day. But we don't have to do all of the recovery at re single day. We're human beings with a finite amount of energy and when you're tapped you're tapped and no one makes good decisions in a place of exhaustion. Think of your energy level for recovery as a daily budget. How much money do you have available? Are you overspending? Are you putting yourself further into debt every day or are you spending what you have responsibly? As much as our mind tells us that we can do it all. We can't do it all. We can do a lot but doing it. All is never a realistic option. And the only person who really suffers. Is You rest is important tuning out and watching a movie? That's important playing with your kids making out with your partner ordering a pizza taking a nap. These are all important things to do to help restore your energy and give you some true life balance. You do not have to intensely feel and meditate on every single emotion. You have. It's important to feel things but it's also smart not ruminate in things all day right now. I'm definitely in a healthier place of balance because I am saying no a lot and I'm saying no to things like intense therapy Saying not partnering on events saying no to answering every email and DM. That I received. I had a birthday this week. Despite all the messages and facebook posts and texts and phone calls. I didn't have the energy to respond to them. It just felt overwhelming and in addition to the fact that as I get older and become more introverted. I'm becoming more and more aware that people take a lot of energy out of me.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren holds rally in Detroit on Super Tuesday: 'I'm in this fight'

"CBS news reporters Aykut excuse following Elizabeth Warren's campaign and joins us from Detroit Zach what did Elizabeth Warren tell the crowd in Detroit tonight tonight she told the crowd it would CC's Appling is good a lot of perks hurting in voting in the strategy and essentially looking to pundits or what they should do here you can tell that that affected by what happened yesterday with Joe Biden with all of these more moderate Democrats getting behind admins are funded sago now we have to do something about Bernie Sanders what she's talking about there is more complicated she's really saying now which is the third option in those with Warren who really spent most of this campaign in both of her political career in the very far left end of the party is now in a way sort of moved into the center of the candidates that remain last night during a speech in LA she said it we find ourselves barreling toward another primary long to Spain weighed just twenty sixteen one for an insider and one for an outsider to hear she is saying look I'm not this like one politician who for better or worse has all these connections or has a record like Bernie Sanders the teacher looking very attractive but she's also not Joe Biden he's not a guy who is connected he just wants to go back to the norm she's saying a lot I also want to shake things up I'm not just but ABC family once pre trump White Joe Biden I'm someone who can actually get the things done that separation is talking about know what you have to do at this point it is in the west the results we don't have we need to see her keep up the major delegate states like Texas California we don't know yet with that whether that's going to happen but we do know is she is headed back tonight the Boston if you were to drop out you would think she would do it there in Cambridge where where she lives in a nearby at our headquarters but if not as of now it's a down day and still be hitting the campaign trail again a few days after so but but but the key takeaway from tonight with Elizabeth Warren Beatty said his brother was really stayed on message it was aside from it being a particularly large event and having a good week gates crowd listed in any town hall she was on the stump she was just talking to voters as he typically does which is kind of a typical for a boating night the other very nice she said speech is what he said to re frame thing the only refrain and she was trying to do tonight is that nothing is going wrong or persisting on and we will take this to a team that can magically after transactions were really quick you talked a lot about the messaging there from Elizabeth Warren but symbolically right now in Massachusetts votes still being counted she sitting in third how does she continue in a race where is symbolically you look at our home state and she's in third well I mean as you said some ball cleared that it hurts your narrative the question that is if you can't win in your home state where can you wanted it eighty so it's unfair thing for her if that happens did it during her Senate seat the future I don't know baby at the very least it's really embarrassing and it kind of creates that a mentality of her own to people and constituents no wonder to be president but I would say beyond that at the end of the day maybe that could be the final nail in the coffin it's going to come down to is whether in the states like California Texas she gets enough delegates but her campaign can still push forward with some impact the letter how narrow toward a potential nomination at the convention I think that is the main deciding factor yeah it could be for the case of it's very borderline and I did she also lost Massachusetts that close the door completely all right thank you Zach CBS news reporter Zack deck with the Elizabeth Warren in Detroit and once again it's Kevin pointed out right now more votes still being counted but Elizabeth Warren is running in third place in her home state of

The 'On Point' Iowa Caucus: Where Do Voters Stand?

"This is on point Magneto Birdie. We're doing something a little bit different this hour. Were experimenting with an on Point Mini Caucus. Because the Iowa caucuses or about three weeks away now and so we're kind of we've created this metaphorical room in our minds. Eye Radio version of a Iowa precinct. Here and seeing what Iowa voters think as they look towards basically casting their first votes In this presidential election season we started out the hour hearing from supporters of Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Bernie Sanders before the break. We I heard from two neighbors in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Who won who was all in for Mayor Pete Buddha Judge and another and Solomon who is still going to stand the corner for Cory Booker and wait to see who might convince her to move somewhere else and now? Let's talk about people tussling over Vice President Joe Biden. Here's the moment yesterday from the Democratic presidential debate in Des Moines. Where former vice president Biden really noted his broad support? He said that he has nationally so here he is look. I've been the object. She's affection now more than anybody else. I taken all the hits. He can deliver. And I'm getting better better in the polls my going up and by the way I have overwhelming support from the African American community overwhelming more than everybody else in this operation Vice President Joe the last night and when he said I've been the object of his affection now more than anybody else on the stage. The vice president was referring to President. Donald Trump. Let's go to Jane Who's calling from Fairfield Iowa Jane. You're on the air what who do you think you're going to be caucusing for thank you very much for your show My my husband and I have had The same issues as I think it was very league. Who wasn't sure who she was going to vote for In the caucuses who she was gonNA side with And Our experience was that there were a lot of good ideas out there that you know when we went to see each candidate we thought yeah. That's a good idea. Or that's a good idea. And that's a good idea and then about two weeks ago we went into See Joe Biden in Grinnell and we realized by you know listening to him being with him. Yeah that we were for sure going to call 'cause for him and The reasons I mean I know I have to be sync but One thing is that he can take the reins of the government immediately He doesn't he's completely capable. Oh and he's he's He's very cogent. His answers were extremely informative and comprehensive comprehensive. He's very competent and other reason is that he he wasn't ranking about anything he was. We felt much better or from being with him because we feel that the ideas presented by most of the candidates will find their way to policy in the united the states. But this is a man who is kind is only mentioned his generous of heart and he's very competent. So we I feel like he has the best chance of unifying that country anything else important. It's unify the country's right. Well Jane thank you so much for your call. Let's go to Robert. WHO's calling from Grinnell Iowa Robert? You're on the air. Hello yes we're we are definitely definitely caucusing for Bernie the last time around we caucus for burning. We knew eight at vowed. Second Amendment voter never voted re- democrat in his his life he caucus for Bernie. It was about healthcare Bernie is willing to make changes. People voted for trump. Because they wanted a change they. I didn't want things as they were. Which is what Hillary is not going to change anything? They wanted changes so they voted for trump. Because it was it it was a vote for either no change or vote for change and they voted for trump. That's why we've caucusing for Bernie Bernie is willing to change things. So that means that you definitely wouldn't caucus for senator. Sorry doing that. Vice President Joe Biden not definitely not Biden. Okay okay. We'll Robert. Thank you so much for your call now. Okay we've heard from various folks who have their mindsets on their on their candidates but it turns out that about right now in Iowa. Iowa seems as if undecided voters undecided. Iowans might be forming the biggest block of Iowa caucus goers. Let's talk to go back into our own point caucus caucus room and talk to to currently undecided Iowans. The Real Wenzel joins us from Waterloo Iowa. She's Laura's director of marketing for Ymca of black of county and is currently decided perhaps leaning towards Andrew Yang Laurel. Welcome to you. Hello it's great to have you and also also from Cedar Rapids Iowa. Tom Fuller joins us. Tom is a retired maintenance supervisor. For the city of Cedar rapids. Tom Is currently undecided. As well did did have his heart on senator or his mindset on Senator Kamala Harris before she dropped out of the race so Tom Welcome to you. Okay so Laura let me ask you first here here. Whoa what's keeping you undecided right now? What have you not found in any of the candidates that you feel like you can throw your full support behind a unifying presence? I think is what I don't see in any of the candidates especially last night on the debate stage age. I was really disappointed that there is nobody that was wanting to come by Ya with the rest of the candidates and be like. Let's do this together because is inevitably. That is what is GonNa Happen. Ray Inevitably we're GONNA have one candidate and it's going to be Democrat versus Republican. But I don't feel like anybody is on the same page on that stage and it's frustrating. Because I want a unified spirit within the party which is why I go to caucus because I go to caucus for the policies of the Party as well as the policies of the individual. Okay so tom you actually truly still undecided or you kinda trying to be leaning one way or the other well I'm still undecided. I am I to me. It seems like we have a a large field of very qualified qualified people and so That makes the decision harder because they're all good so what I'm considering going to is Someone that can immediately restore our credibility With the world We think we're the laughing stock now. And I think we need to regain our The Mantle of leadership and respect and get our credibility back back and a friend of mine who was a cory booker supporter. Very adamant he just the next day went to Joe Biden very strongly and so I've been looking at Ah Biden That would pretty much. I hope restore credibility with the world pretty much outta the gate and it seems to me that when you have this confusing Mass of people that having somebody with the roots being with Obama and all of his is years in the Senate That sort of a direct line with all these other candidates kind of warming around rounded doesn't let me if I may just let me just tip toeing here again Because Lorenzo did I hear you Kinda side it was very strong side regarding regarding Joe. Ab Thinking about Joe Biden. But you're it sounds like anybody but joe I mean I think that it's a fallacy to assume that his credibility outside of the United States is going to provide any sense of security when he's an office I think that unfortunately impeachment aside the The investigation that trump was going going for it has really broken thy confidence in Joe Biden. And that's something that we haven't really heard at least I haven't heard much about Out You can be darn that he's GonNa late into that on the debate stage if Biden becomes the nominee. And and. I'm concerned I'm concerned. It's going to be another Hillary Clinton where you know you supporter. You'll like her and then all of a sudden this thing comes out and it's like Oh okay so. Let's listen coin to unify unify the party. So let me ask both of you got a couple minutes left with the two of you and Tom. I'll start with you. Is there anything that you heard from your fellow Iowans this hour. That might convinced you one way or the other not yet the to women's that go to the same church or re really really Enlightening and I'm going to re listen to this and Listen carefully to what they had to say. Cedar Rapids Nothing you know. No no we pick for many yet. it's still not three weeks certainly very interesting points. They made I still think maybe I'm I'm leaning towards Biden Haydn The reason that trump went after him I feel like trump thinks that he's the strongest candidate and and that's why he attacked him. I'm hurry everybody thinks he's the strongest candidate. I mean you can see it on the debate stage last night. They wanted to give Elizabeth Warren the last word and then all of a sudden Biden was able to rebuttal before the commercial break. I mean everybody expects Joe Biden to win this nomination Shannon I I think that's the disappointing thing is that We we have all of our hopes and dreams and this guy that is just. She's tired he looks tired. He looks you know like like he has so much that he wants to give by. He physically is just not going to be able to do it. And I I understand. Stay on that So that's why I'm just like you know you are. You are a great idea and if you could just throw your support against another our candidate I feel like that would be best in the end but you know that's not GonNa Happen for alcock Laurel. Did you hear anything this hour. That might have helped clarify in the direction. You're going to go in a couple of weeks. You know I did I. Did you know I've been. I've been fighting with my interest in Elizabeth Warren. Because I remember when I first saw her on the daily show with John Stewart and she reminded minded me of my history professor. Because that's what she wants and I have been fighting with that instinct to feel you know cast down in by her in a sense like she knows everything but at the same time I do feel like she has the best candidate on that stage and that her policies are really about the people they impact. They will impact me and my family with my son who needs long-term long term care Because he's disabled I just I'm ready for a woman. I'm ready for that feminine touch so I really if you like between the debate last night and what I heard today Elizabeth Warren seems like the best win and if I might interject I thought thought we'd be passed having I've having to think about either having a man or woman and that we would just be at the place where or we would pick. The best person is really. We've never we have that. We're not that far down the road yet. We shouldn't gender shouldn't matter it should just be the best person and it's I'm I'm pretty disappointed that we haven't gone on that far yet. Well Tom Fuller from Cedar Rapids Iowa. Tom Thank you so much for joining us in our little mini any caucus here really appreciate supporter and definitely go back. And listen on radio DOT ORG. That's where you're gonNA find it okay. Let us know what you think about. What an libby had to say and and Laura Wenzel from Waterloo Iowa? Thank you so much for joining us in our little mini caucus room here seeing you. It was a great opportunity and I hope that everybody everybody that's the thing goes out and caucus on February third. Yeah same here definitely and everybody should always participate in the electoral process as much as they possibly awesome. Cancel Laura thank you again okay. So that that was worthy more fascinating hours that I've had a chance to listen to so let me turn back to our on point news analyst Jack Beatty the Marvelous Jack Beatty. Who's been listening in from Hanover? New Hampshire Jack. We've got about two and a half minutes left here. What did you hear well? Well I heard voters who were just not only interested but intensely interested and and and and Laurel we actually. We heard an informed. Cy I mean even her. Cy was informative. We knew what she meant. And and it you know the one of the knocks on the caucus focus is undemocratic he to the no secret ballot. You've got to stand at a at a at a place for polling placer church basement for hours you've got to do it in public but on the other hand that encourages people to talk in public and look how these people talked to each each other. Not Past each other met. The arguments met the objections. Saw The merit In the other person's point of view it seems to me it modeled old Iowa's citizenship at its best. I I would agree right. I mean hearing hearing and in Libby and Lorella Lorella and Tom and and Barney and Mike all engage with each other was really inspirational. But as you said the actual caucus itself I mean I read someone described it a sort of like. It's almost a student council student president election because it can be so wild but to your original. Appoint though Jack was made at the beginning of the hour we've got about thirty seconds left here. Is there anything that you heard in these voters. That changes your your concern that you know. The Iowans wins. Don't really pick winners. Well their concern to pick a winner and that may matter as much as anything I mean. I didn't hear here purity. I didn't hear someone saying well. My commitment is to this candidates ideas above everything. Everyone seemed to hedge. I want onto winner. Maybe they'll pick one right. That definitely came through loud and clear with with all of our Iowa state but the reasons why they think their candidates might be a winner. We're quite different from one another which was absolutely fascinating so Jack Beatty Point News analyst with us from Hanover. New Hampshire the New Hampshire primary hot on the heels of the Iowa Caucus. Jack ackward diving all in now. Thank you so much for joining us today.

Bowl Games 2019-20: Schedule and Predictions for Top Upcoming Games

"We're talking ball games he's around March here I'm Susan Burke as we want to know what you think about any and all ball games were talking red box ball because the fighting Illini our plane in the red box full talk or text three one two five nine one eighty nine hundred now as we're talking about rob just even going to a big ten game as it is is so much fun so much going on that date you can't see from the TV so to speak and while a bowl game in the bay area sounds like fun to me I I just want everyone to know that I did lobby to get us out of the red box full wasn't quite in the budget maybe next year exactly maybe next year but I I did try and try well it we make the Rose Bowl next year and they they've they've got a Serra send us folks there I think so they were you know like you said a lot of fun things going on and she's there's no shortage of of things that the the fighting line I have been involved in since the touch down the other day in San Francisco I know they've had a lot of fun Brian Barnhart was telling us when he joined us earlier voice of a line I basketball and football for that matter they bend Alcatraz and they've been doing charitable work all sorts of stuff sounds like you're having a children's hospitals yeah and you know I also want to mention that the Dallas Mavericks are taking on the Golden State Warriors tonight why do I say that because the fighting line I will be there they're gonna go enjoy the basketball game tonight as well that's right that's right they are going to go see that game I think you know just from an outsider's point of view I I think that's a great way to take these players minds off of the fact that they've got a huge nationally televised game yes coming up when they take on cal of course again you can catch right here on WLS AMA ninety ends look a whole lot of stuff going on out in the bay area I absolutely I mean first of all it wouldn't be a game without a pep rally right no I hadn't the twenty nine th the first bowl of men open to fans is the pep rally redbox bowl pep rally that's at noon at Justin Herman plaza and Market Street that's a famous street in San Francisco it's free and it's public and a chance for fans to have a great time middle of the later on in the evening at least I'll dare in on on the west coast that is the bowl bash at the bay that again will be open to the public in that it'll be it'll be a good time at some located at oracle park now I'm not sure exactly where that you want that's twenty four Willie Mays plaza that's good for the giants play I have a baseball team so that'll be that'll be fun and and you know the the good times continue to roll on the the following morning well they do that's the game day run club so that happens there actually embarking from embark could there plaza I think I said that correctly and the guys are staying at the Hyatt regency and so they're gonna run on over to the where all the action is happening the run is open to everyone it's four miles so you have to be ambitious to join in that activity well I think it's important to to give a little bit of history of this game date run club it's actually hosted by you'll vie athletic director Josh women he threw this out on social media a while ago didn't know how would go but he's a fat guy he played at the university of Illinois and now he's the athletic director down there in Champaign so sorry I wanted to go for a run on game day he does it every morning prior to the games and the next thing you know as is usually the case with social media this thing catches fire so all the sudden people started running with him so this is the game day run again brought to you by the athletic director Josh women who was just just very very passionate not only about the football team you know which he played on which just anything involving a line I sports he's he's front and center cheering them on so that'll be fun Embarcadero plaza a huge tour stop in San Francisco so that'll be it'll be fun to watch get the people's feedback on on how that goes well right in place with that run and that's a stress reliever you know much like the guys traveling to Alcatraz and going to the game tonight and all of that it's a stress reliever but you can't stay too late at all the pregame activities if you're gonna run for my word to the wise there's also a pre game party looks like I'm the game day at ten AM yeah so that'll be a good time as well and you know as we said that we think that we think that tell you my fans are gonna be out there in full force the they travel well and in that you know nothing like going through a bit of some lean years to make a G. P. people's interest and get out there and support you're fighting a lot of little be fun three one two five nine one eighty nine hundred if you got a prediction on the red box bowl again as the fighting Illini face the California golden bears or you know any of the any of the bowl games still yet to come in fact one E. is under way it is the peach bowl chick fillet people that is between the top rank LSU Tigers and the fourth ranked Oklahoma Sooners and I think Justin said he pretty made a bold prediction he said that Ellis you wearing fifty up on the Sooners I think this game at least is the way it's playing out right now is going to be a little bit closer than predicted Ellis you just scored it's still in the first quarter you're about ready to go up fourteen seven on the Sooners the but the big one tonight in in our minds Susan second ranked Ohio state at thirteen and no big ten this year taking on three Clemson that's going to be a that's gonna be a big match up it's going to be big and like you said a lot of these these games today really too close to call our I I don't even think he the experts know exactly who's gonna win who's gonna who's gonna make it yeah I I just don't you know the so called the so called experts they didn't really do much by Illinois this year with some other point spreads and how they kind of I guess disrespected them I would like to say well Shalom right exactly so yeah again the marquee matchup is going to be is is going to be huge and it just kind of a little bit of a history of claims and and Ohio state the Ohio state they've got they've got a little bit on the line here not just the fact that they want to win and go on to the national championship but the last time they faced constant was back in two thousand sixteen it was new year's eve out in Glendale Arizona Clemson crush them thirty one to nothing in urban Meyer said after the game not only do we embarrass ourselves in Paris the whole state of Ohio well our you got that right yeah and this is one of their first appearances in this poll are college football playoff to have their own my time I'm talking about Oklahoma part yeah I know that's okay yeah no we're do where does did send stuff to keep track of these days but look that's gonna be a good game of the one that's going on right now is Ellis you and Oklahoma hi you know it's just in these teams are so evenly matched we talked about it earlier I don't think it's you know overstating its when you say that I really like the top four teams this year and as they kinda you know get get themselves into that national championship of formation I think it's some we want to go with I think it'll be Ellis you're not really going out on a limb here because they're also even the match I think it'll be Ellis you and climbs in in the championship game just we think you're racing around so somebody thank I'm going with Justin we have I said I know but just since our fabulous producer he is just a few more minutes to go here wanna thank Brian Barnhart he joined us earlier he calls the games for the university of Illinois does football and basketball which by the way you can also hear basketball on "The place to go Tyler Beatty back to work here in the second. And he misses the first pitch. Fastball to Kyle farmer. Former dodger. Right handed hitter hitting one ninety two so far this year. He's got power three home runs. Three nothing reds PD pitches. And farmers swings. Abysses change from beady. It's one in one. That was the pitch that he gave up the home run against in the first two outs. Nobody on ground ball single bloop single. And then just a high fly ball that in this part turned into a three run Homer. The one Tich is swung on and missed strike to that is not too totally exonerate Tyler Beatty. He did not make a good pitch ahead on account to Derek Dietrich. But there was some bad luck involved in that three run first inning. One to got him swinging to Beatty gets his second strikeout farmer goes down. That is out number one here in the second nothing reds. Are iota out of town scoreboard. I look tonight. There are lots of other games going on across the big league baseball. We're here in the eastern time zone. Sunny, gray the pitcher Canada. That's eight this reds lineup. Tucker Barnhart the catcher is on exits gray against Beatty. First pitch from the right hander is called strike, but a ninety five mile an hour fastball. Yankees twins. That's a good series Yankees cooled off by the Diamondbacks, but still playing well we saw that last weekend at home and twins or nineteen ten playing great. Here's a curve. The just MRs gray was ducking to get out of the way that one did not almost hit him. It was almost a strike. Gives you an idea the movement on a curve ball. Count.

"About tonight's uh the show the show itself any details leaking out about what may happen on the air so obviously eat yeah we all you will remember how last year ended with the flogged with warren beatty and faded down away and so they can be tried to hold the news that they'd be coming back but i think it's leaked out pretty clearly that they're gonna be presenting tonight and we don't know if we're gonna be presenting likely best picture i heard that they're actually gonna be presenting to moonlight again that they're gonna come back and actually gave a thorough clean presentation moonlight of last year's best picture i personally think the moment that will get a standing ovation besides that i think there's more other moment that people really want to see in the show and i think it's the two new super heroes of the past year presenting together galgario wonderwoman and shadowed boesman heart uh and uh that would be a presenter did well that i think you know it's really hard to win over that room uh it's six thousand people there in the dolby if you're not in the first sort of fifteen or twenty rose you know it's sort of a different um a different vibe i think that's a moment that um would really be a nice moment so to sum up to share i've heard that there is not going to be a uh dress in black closing edict to like there was at the golden globes what do we know about any sort of meat to moments or anything that maybe happening to acknowledge uh you know the years scandals yet debt denied has been pervasive this whole season like their awards season is usually frothy and it's all just funding i almost feel embarrassed how much time the community spends awarding itself but there's been this dark current and this entire awards season where i feel like it's kind of it's been hard just sort of celebrate the for vitality of movies and celebrity with the industry going through a massive bracketing you know there was a major event the other night here so her house which is that you guys have wanted these in chicago it's like a private member's on the club that they rarely ever even allow photos in their times up had a a major event they're the other night hosted by april rene and where i.

"You're listening to the brian beatty realestate show on the big chalker twelve fifty wtma and wtma welcome back to the last few minutes of the brian beatty real estate show here on the big talker twelve fifty wtma i'm brian beatty i want to finish our discussion about finding an excellent buyer agent in helping you better understand the process associated with starting your home search and that's really do you know as michael sense tally with movement mortgage said get approved for mortgage find a really good real estate agent and then go find a house now what i was kind of alluding to before we took a break was that there are going to be some agents out there there are listing agents out there that take listings knowing that that listening will likely not sell i mean i if this past week i walked away from to list things that hey if it if i just wanted to put a sign in the yard i could have had a listing but i didn't because the home is not going to sell for the amount of money those sellers need in order for that process to make sense for them i am not the type of agent that just tells people what they wanna hear for the sake of putting my sign on the ground to get leads from it and that's what some agents do so you a buyer need to understand that there are agents out there that will leverage their listing either to find more seller listings by playing up their marketing and gearing it toward sellers or finding buyers you know hey i got a listing that's great is it going to sell at that price no am i gonna at least find some buyers that inquired about the property can i possibly seldom something else yes that's kind of the you know the maybe one of the main benefits to that particular age or at least that kind of agent is that they're still going to get some business from it it doesn't matter if the home cells are not they're still gonna help somebody by some thing so you as a real their use a buyer need to understand that your every realtor with a license can show you every property available for sale in the mls so since that's true you can.
