Caitlin Clark on Chocolate Flavor Through Fermentation

"Are you a chocolate lover. Even true chocoholics might not know what their favorite treat has. In common with. Yogurt cheese and wine it's flavors come from fermentation fermentation is the process of improving food through the controlled activity of microbes. The food you know as chocolate starts its life. As the seeds of football shaped fruit farmers scoop out the seeds and pulp into piles or boxes. The seeds are now called. Ca- cow beans they ferment. For about a week before they're dried roasted and crushed with sugar until smooth and ready to eat. Let's go back to that. Fermentation step ca cow from imitation as a multi stage process. The first stage involves east just like the yeast and your beer. Yeast and a fermentation produces alcohol by digesting the sugary pulp around the beans as the pull breaks down. Oxygen sleeps in an oxygen loving bacteria takeover the bacteria generate acidic acid from the alcohol that the produced acetic acid causes biochemical changes as it soaks into the beans and that has a major impact on flavor finally as the acid slowly evaporates and the sugars are all used up. Spore forming organisms begin to grow cows a wild fermentation from his rely on natural microbes in their environment to create unique local flavors. This phenomenon is known as tear warr makers of gourmet small batch chocolate hand select cacao beans based on their distinctive terroir to produce chocolate with an impressive range of flavor nuances for example one bar maybe reminiscent of raspberries. While another has notes of toffee and raisins yet. In both cases the bars contain nothing except cacao beans and sugar these impressive flavor differences are due almost entirely to the power of microbes

Rachel Sutherland Good morning, Rachel. Hey, Good morning, David. Amy. Yeah, this came down to not having legislative text of this proposal. It's a little over a trillion dollars funding core infrastructure, So it's pretty popular with the American people. But Republicans are saying We don't know what's in it. They'd also like to see a score from the Congressional Budget Office was the government's bean counters. They don't know how it's going to affect the bottom line. The White House is saying, Look, this is just a procedural vote to move to proceed to debate on the proposal. So no big deal in doing that you could work on the legislative text, but Republicans did go ahead and block flat last night. They are expected to then. Come back on Monday and try again.

What Kind of Gut Microbiome Are You Creating?

"You sit down to each you can think about what kind of microbiome a my building today. Because the foods that we provide us with calories and nutrients we absorb those in our small predominantly but they the foods which to consume define the residue that gets delivered to our gut microbes. So if you're eating a standard western diet which is full of red meat processed animal fash plants deficient processed food. Okay the bacteria that live in. Your large are getting a steady supply of animal protein. Hardly any fiber and bile. They're getting bio which is produced to help to digest the multiply that fast and that feeds certain types of gut bacteria causing them to flourish and become predominance an those are the bacteria the process that stuff and generate things secondary bile acids and ammonia hydrogen sulfide gas which is pro inflammatory and hardly any short chain fatty acids and that gives a microbial environment which creates barrier dysfunction inflammation. Dna damage gino toxicity. Short a gut microbial environment that is conducive to inflammation and carcinogenesis the beginnings of cancer cells in our body. How about we make a different decision. So instead of having a big mac meal ran the bean burger and the sweet potato and the leafy greens the whole grains vegetables the fruits. So now what does our microbiome receive on this healthy whole food plant based diet well tons of fiber know very little animal protein less protein in general because we absorb what we need in this less leftover hardly any by lassus because our whole foods. Bumpy start is naturally lower in fat and lower in saturated fat. So now we're choosing to build a different kind of got microbiome.

So what are you going. Well it's a different question that went. I thought when. I was filling this out so just to for full disclosure right now. A Look at Chronic Pain in Obesity With Dr. Sheetal DeCaria

"She took people with obesity. Often suffer from gender body aches and joint pains. What are the common aches and pains that you see in people who are suffering with obesity in your practice. Sure so there's actually two different. I would types of pain that i see so. The first is mechanical pain. And that's what you kind of expect to see. In obese patients due to the extra weight. Some additional stresses on their joints so in those patients. We see a lot of hip pain. Knee pain back pain. And that's a result of just the extra stress causing kind of an accelerated arthritis and bone breakdown of their cartilage and early onset arthritis. But then we're also seeing a lot of other syndromes that happen. In a higher likelihood in an obese patient versus a non obese patient and those are things like headache fibromyalgia of domino pain and nerve pain actually have nothing to do with the mechanical causes right and all these beans really depend on the movement or lack there of or is there something else that also precipitates. These paints sure so joint pain. A lot of times is dependent on movement especially the hip and the knee joint pain however as their kind of arthritis of the joint really progressiveness to becoming end stage or bone on bone arthritis in those people. I actually see them having pain even at rest. The other types of pain. I talked about like the fibromyalgia. The nerve pain. Those can happen at any time because those are actually more related to biochemical ties to obesity rather than just the mechanical resents. Let's talk about the biochemical pot of it because that's very interesting very commonly. We see that the pains that are there are very commonly we think about the pins that are there with. Obesity are primarily because of the stress on the joints or the weight bearing joints that we would see. But let's talk about the biochemical factors at play over here. What really causes all of these other pains sore. So they found that in studies done on both humans and animals that obese patients have higher inflammatory markers in their blood versus people that are not obese so one example of this is something called. Crp and this is c reactive protein. It's an inflammatory marker so it's elevated in patients that are obese and that leads to a lot of extra joint pain and different types of pain syndromes just from the inflammation

The Importance of Workplace Wellness With WELCOA's Maggie Gough

"When we think about workplace wellness Or specifically what is it about the workplace that makes wellness particularly important in that space. And in your new role here in will coa love to hear what you're doing to promote that workplace wellness. Well know when. I one of my first jobs really building programs for wellness was for college students and i mean i was probably in that job for two years before i actually really understood why in the world a university would care to help people from the age of eighteen to twenty three take care of themselves like they don't really have thought about what health beans at that age. And we feel pretty resilient at that age in so you come to realize that a university's mission is to create or to cultivate individuals. Not just who are intelligent. But who are civically engaged in meaningful contributors to our society and so of course we need for them to be able to care for themselves and to meet their own needs when they have them and all the sudden it begin to make sense and so when we asked the question why the workplace because we spend the majority of our life in the workplace mantas simple as that and people give their lives to the success of our companies so the very least that we can do as ask ourselves the question. In what way can. I make this a better experience for somebody who's giving of themselves towards my success michael's right and i think when we think of it as simple as that do. We really need more justification.

I've i've fallen in pretty much every that that you can fall into when people ask me why survived when other people. Haven't i think it comes with a lot of things. I think it comes from the fact that i learned in the very beginning to put a system to the game to treat it like a business and to approach studying with a certain kind of intensity and i think that that ability to treat the game like a business is what helped me in the beginning but a lot of people did that right. I think what else helped me was. Just that like men. I like it the the pastor you know. I think that that's another thing i think. "I think the thing that i just bounced off. The most was the way that you've got all of these systems and they have this lure of being potentially interesting but ultimately they're just a little shallower than you want to believe when going into something that's promising this level of interactivity in symmetry that this game is doing. But i think you raise a good point earlier. Where were you were saying that it is also just a simple game. And i think maybe our tastes of gotten to the point of being like we like games. That are complicated. But i don't. I still wouldn't recommend this to people who are just looking for a simple game because there's enough rules. I agree scare away like a family or something. Like one hundred centigrade. And i i feel like that is the core issue as you say is the fact that yes you've got this variety but within that variety. There's not enough that's interesting. it's but then at the same time all of this adds up to have a complexity cost like it doesn't matter the everyone has their own little manual for playing the game. The fact is you've just added a boatload of extra rules into a game so you've you've made a simple game much more complicated by simply having more rules but there's no payoff anyway so we should. "Bean baxter zere hall of famer time radio hall of famer. I don't know if that's the official title of it but can i. Can i quickly ask a question. How do you get into the hall of fame twice. Yeah that's there are two different of fame. There's the national association of broadcasters broadcasting hall of fame which kevin and i got into in two thousand fourteen and there's a competing. I guess radio hall of fame and we were inducted there in two thousand nineteen. Okay got it. is there one in chicago. Well the radio hall of fame. I think maybe based in chicago the organization of it may be based in chicago. I think that's right. Yeah i think that was the thing. We're stephen gary were in gary. Refuse to show up and there was a lot of controversy like just show up a hall of fame. Just show up just show up. I agree it's It's very humbling to go into radio because you love because you fall in love with it and you're just grateful to be able to do it for a living and then when you get a call like that and you realize that your name is on a plaque somewhere along with know people don imus and people like john landecker and you know people you grew up idolizing yeah. It's very very humbling. I'm so grateful that i was able to have experiences. I was able to have in radio now just to be clear when you bring up. Don i miss it because you looked because you two are racist. Is that the reason why the two names did like i know. I know that. I said some dumb things near the end of his fifty year career but he had a lot of years where he was great. So let's i prefer to remember that way. All right very good. Nappy headed ho years of the years that i remembered was in his head like people. This the same thing really eric clapton. the go. yeah but i like the music before became nuts. Yeah but he had. It was laying douala's land dormant right. Now listen the and also but you know. I know you grew up idolizing rick dees now why did you not mention rick. Diseases name idolized ds. I don't like them at all right. I know i didn't i. Didn't he's the phony person who's ever been on radio. Everything about ricky's is what gave disc jockeys a bad name. As far as i'm concerned because everything was so superficial and sophie. I mean rick dees is the kind of guy who'd be like so good to see love you so much. You're such a big fan of and the minute that person walk said he's like oh that guy's an asshole never an honest thought comes out of his mouth and i but you gotta give them all the credit who had a bigger career in los angeles radio than rick dees. He was the gold standard. He had more listeners. I think that you know than anyone. In the seventies and eighties no one was bigger than brick dees. And by the way do still alive still doing a syndicated show and a countdown show around the world. Still making millions of dollars a year in radio working out of his His horse ranch in kentucky. All right i live the dream now. He's I i wish. I could do a good ricky's impression to entertain upwards of nobody had such a unique way of talking that i don't think was good. Job never understood his appeal now. Did you hold just go back against him. Or is that in a column in his favor. Here's a here's a fund your piece of jimmy pardo trivia bean When i lived in pasadena california between nineteen ninety-six nine hundred nineteen seven. Ricky's used to. I will listen to him every morning. That's the truth. He was the closest to stephen gerry. That at the time in the mid eighties that l. a. Had offer. So i listen to him and one day he had a he played like a name that tune and he dropped in just a. This was number one this year. Just that that long and i called in and i said i got through and they said here's jim for pasadena. What do you think. And i think that disco duck by rick dees and his cast of idiots and then rick dees thought. It was so amazing that i knew the entire titled richness kassovitz that he then gave me the hotline number. And i call any time to be funny with him. I think i use it a total of a one time. But when i started state of comedy he also had that that late night. Talk show for that minute and a half. So mike night. But my intro. Was you know him from the rick. D show the of the radio show twice out that yes. That's the fun piece of jimmy. Rick dees trivia. Are you going to write a book jimmy. You know what i've been bouncing around with my friend. Kyle ryan who used to work for the onion and a trying and i plan being was hayward pandemic. What a perfect time to write a book shannon. We both went. Hey this is too fucking exhausting during a pandemic. Maybe this isn't the best time for this all thought with all this quote unquote free time during the pandemic that we were gonna come out of it in the best shape of her life. We'd all be playing the ukulele. We'd all be multiple languages. All we've done is gained twenty five pounds and watched everything netflix's has to offer one hundred percent. That's what i've done. I would i. Would i would like to preorder your book right now. Ever cubs out. I'd like to be the first sale. Because i think you've got stories to tell with all the years of everything that you've done with all the different facets of your career from the record companies to the television and stand up got story. You guys were with me on that. Jimmy should write a book right. Yeah yeah except for the fact that he's constantly telling us that he's not a writer that's the only thing that's getting in the way of it. That's the only thing slowdown in this pandemic. Pandemic get back to the you know. The typewriter has dacoven. So i can't go. I can't use it covered with cove. I love that. You're going to write your book at a typewriter. I don't understand you have to do so is that that's not how sir i've seen misery processor. No actually just use your mac just your apple laptop. Just sit out with that and just go to town joe. I see interesting okay. Well i'll tell you. I'll take your advice. I've already got the other four things you suggested made so you might be right about this as well. All right. Being baxter's with gene bean baxter. Four time emmy winner meet. Its question to you. There was that time where they were kind of giving every morning team. A shot at that. Joan rivers era that late night. Thing that ross shafer ended up doing and i think stephen gary might have done a week on it as well they did. They ever come to you guys to do a late night. Talk show no. They didn't do a little bit of tv. But kevin and i both realized we were bad at it. And i don't think we i think we've been wasting everybody's time if we'd gone further and it just wasn't a skill set where it's a different kind of skill in television. Doing radio guy like you can do both. I think i'm much more comfortable. Just being buying a microphone so we did. I mean we did some. We had some appearances. Rana gosh what was his name. Creek gilbert creek kilburn..

"Infinite cbd a better way to soothe those muscles. Everybody welcome back to the program of twenty seven sixteen. We are joined by now. Listen before the break. I mentioned these are first international guest via zoom. We've had international guests in the studio Via zoom is our first. He's coming to us from different countries also in some sort of a pandemic from following the news correctly but and then i mentioned that. He's a hall of fame broadcaster and in the break He he alerted. Actually these a time hall of famer. Please welcome listen. I i mean this sincerely There is i m ame student of the game of broadcasting. I enjoy disc jockeys. I enjoy Personalities and i mean this inserted. This guy is one of the best. this guy gene. Bean baxter formerly the kevin and bean show now with the alley and being podcast Cup of tea chat. Which is a delight if you're not listening to that if you don't want I'm not listening. You stop paying us those new us if you pay for us to listen to them because they're doing a patriot model. That looks a lot like ourselves. This guys wanted to. And and i'm thrilled these friend gene. Bean baxter hello. Hello hello team. Great to be on. Never not funny jimmy. I've been wanting to be a guest on your show as long as i've known you and it's such a thrill that you've finally invited me that you've already run out of all other celebrities and it's my time thank you. I first of all. I'm not. I appreciate humor. You know that. I'm a fan of humor mr to the game said i have been asked you to come on this show for minimum ten years. Then you that is not a fact. That's one hundred percent of fact. Why would you say that's not a fact. I'm gonna throw these going to walk out in a tantrum but will be the shortest appear on your show before I don't know i just. It's never happened until now so let's just. Let's just be happy that we're together at this moment and let's just have a good time for first of all you're the one that brought up you've been you you you. You're either living in seattle or in new orleans and you were very rarely very rarely an at boy. That's a lot of ours for my mouth. And i would always invite you to come on when you were in town and you're like yeah sounds great. Sounds great sounds great. And then you're leaving the kevin and bean morning show and you'd make the rounds to everybody. Kabc some boring guy on am radio talks for forty. Five minutes i go. Hey can you come into the program. Oh i don't have time i to go talk to this so my words not yours. I very busy. And you're no. Sam rubin jimmy. Now come on. Hey matt it completely off topic but what he just said maybe think of it. We need to find the audio clip of george. Pinocchio saying rattle to his core. Yes we can drop that in from time to time because it while it's fun that we say it would be fun for jorge benach. You'd actually say. I'm a little concerned that that you've inflated i don't know i don't know that he actually said it. I think i think i just said it about him out of the way he was acting and and we laughed about it and just never stopped loving me out. Let's find the drop of you saying that. In from time to time that'll be easier to find. At least i have access to that yeah well. Gb baxter's here. As i mentioned added just was listening to it on my my walk this morning. Elian and being a cup of tea and a chat where these two are basically speaking of drop ins. I'm not a fan of the morning radio bells and buzzers and all that bullshit and you guys have a couple of droppings that make me laugh every single time give me the history of the little kids saying gay after something because what happens is you know i am a collector of soundbites. And i'm telling you. I i hear what you're saying about grabbing that bite from george nacchio once you go down that road it will take over your life. Jimmy start hearing everything in sound bites. It is therefore impossible to just watch a tv show and not have somebody stand up and say something illegal. Got mark the tape. I gotta grab that. And i in the in the almost a year that i was off the radio before i started the podcast with alli i collected twelve hundred soundbites. I didn't even have a show still every day. I was going in and pull it tape off. Whatever i was listening to podcasts or songs or tv or movies or whatever at cut them up and just stack them and ready. In case i ever needed you become obsessed with them. And i wish i wish i had a better filing system to keep track of where they all came from the kids. Kinda sound like they might have come from a simpson's episode couldn't swear to it but it is certainly one of my favorites kids. Just there through seattle is just so infectious. Funny you do you. Also you always drop it in after something. That may not be all that funny to which is funny. And i know what you're saying you know it's so funny because for folks who don't know jimmy made reference to the kevin and bean show on at los angeles station for thirty years. My friend kevin an idea to radio show there and when we were hired we were the anti morning zoo. That's partly why we were hired k rock if you remember back.

"I don't think he works on his game enough either. I don't think when. I look at the things that he brought to the table his first year and as he way he looked his second year. When i look at him now i go clear to. You didn't work in your handles because you still insecure. When you're defendant closely trying to dribble you pass the ball willingly. Br you make the kind of passes that a. Ymca player makes when he jumped in the air. He does get caught up in the air lot. Yeah yeah and it's just like those little things. I just i when i watch him now going. Yeah you ain't really improving the way we need you to improve to assume the number two spot when the bron james retires and anthony davis number one. He's definitely not ready to be number. Two yeah so then what is he doing. What are we doing with you. Then laura what did you say. I said he got to hollywood real quick and he's not even up to par to be that you agree with that. I mean there is some. Oh that's funny. There is some of that though right. There is a little bit of that. I mean the la lifestyle which a lot of guys do who doesn't like the la lifestyle with the exception of You know random. Maybe was somebody like that. But listen. Coups is a young good looking guy who is on the preeminent franchise in the nba. So of course he's going to get a little hollywood and i don't fault him for that and and oh by the way. I do believe. Kobe spent some time trying to wrap so. It's not like i know for sure. I is unique for sure but koby koby worked on his game all the time right. Yeah every moment every single moment. But i don't see him looking much better then. He was when he was a rookie laura. Laura thinks he's he's. He's busy doing other things. What does he busy to enlarge. He's busy date. Like vanessa hudgens type of women. You know women are just okay. I mean but you know what model. Now's the thanks for the game. Real talk you ball out. They're gonna come to you but here's the thing l z. Here's the other thing guys like you know during the playoffs. When he was on the floor. Now you may not like his own individual production. They were way better when he was on the floor. I listen. i'm talking about like their net rating. Plus minors no no listen without seeing the numbers in front of me as to who else was on the floor and the dynamic who was against him and things like that. I still believe as a talented player to buy into the role and i don't think he's willing to buy into the role. Well i don't think he's one worked hard enough to buy into the role he thinks he's a have And i also don't think that he is doing the best possible job in the opportunities that he's given right. I don't think. I don't think he wants the role that they want him to have right right and he doesn't have. He hasn't worked hard enough to have the role that he thinks he should have right. So you know. That's the reason why i'm like going trade him to the knicks. He'll be happy he'll be in new york he can day. Whoever he wants a date in going hollywood he can go and theater. He can do whatever he wants out in new york and get all the shots he wanted. It won't matter if he gets better or not. Because he'd be a new york knickerbocker and blah blah blah. And he'll happy. Let's open it up to the audience. What do you think what should happen with coups here. This offseason eight seven seven hundred ten. Espn eight seven seven. Seven ten three seven seven six most going to join us at six thirty. We can ask her about that. Plus l z. We got two things coming up. We got some mba news in regards to fans in the stands and the nfl power. Rankings for espn. Where the rams were the raiders. Where the chargers doesn't look good for the rams this week. I'll tell you why just a moment..

"Definitely you know for me. I always believe in myself no matter what you know. This thing is not a this game. This whole entire season is not come down to eight games. Last time i checked. There's a lot more games left to play. So i have the utmost belief in myself and our ability as a team and For me man. I would say you keep me in that line of for sure i have. I've been playing you. So i'm gonna play you again this week so i'm gonna get you get you in the lineup is getting get you in the flex. I'm going to get you in there somewhere with me. Thank you those of us who are big sports fans here in l. a. We've gotten kind of used to now when you championship every couple of weeks. I'm just curious in terms of the conversations that you and your teammates have. What is it been like processing seeing the lakers and dodgers win big as you're trying to win week to week to week is it. A point of compensation is it not a point. Conversations and motivation is an intimidation. Yeah man that's huge you know. Obviously the lakers lakers got a great championship man. for me. I'm a huge lakers fan. So that's awesome to see. Obviously the dodgers. They accomplished what they did for me. Of course you know you play in the city. That's always in the talk. You know we have to deliver to you know. La's championship city. So the lakers and the dodgers win ball championships man. That's become and for us. That's our expectation. But you know we gotta consider the regular season and the challenge. We have a hand and we had to go take a day at a time. Joshua kelley of the chargers joining us year. Almost bruins Because i wanted to ask you about them just a second but of course former bruins we will allow it always brewed so we will talk to him about that in just a moment but do you get the sense. Look that and i understand you guys have had a tough go of it already this season right but they're still a long way to go right. I know a lot of players. You look at the season. You try to take it in quarters. The wild card hunt is in there. There could be eight teams in the playoffs. So you guys are still in this thing but do you get a sense in regards to the city right that you guys have got justin right this young phenom. You got a great a great backfield with yourself. In austin when he's healthy and justin jackson and the group that you guys have there you got keenan. You've got mike williams in this great defense. Even during his hurt right still a great defense. Do you feel like this is your opportunity. This season these next couple of seasons to really grab this city because the city has a football championship because they haven't had football teams up until recently in a very long time. Do you feel that chance. is it. Palpable that you guys want to grab the city as well. Yeah man that's for sure especially considering those type of talent that we have over here. We have a lot of great players. We have great coaches great front office. We have a good thing going on. We just got put it together. So i mean obviously we talk about those type of things like man. We can really do this then. Like you said like la football terms just ball. It's up for grabs right now and the city hasn't had a lot championships when it comes to football. So i'm telling you man you know we're excited about that embrace that challenge so you eat no beans. Pinto beans. No lambis butter beans. None of it. I don't. I'm not really much of a beans person. Poland get a ball. I'm not really getting any beans. I just i don't know man that's just not me. So of louis farrakhan came to you with a bean pie. You're gonna be like nah dog. I'm good man. I'm happy to pass have pass. I just know how. I know beans due to my body. So hey man. Something's just not worth it. It's worth it. I'll bruins in action this week. At pac twelve is back in action this weekend. The taken on colorado. What are you got to say about your squad this weekend. You think they can pull it out absolutely of course and they. They got the players. They have the coaches they have game. I'm excited to see what they're gonna do. I really am. I think i really have a lot of confidence in the season. You know obviously seven games. Last time i checked so obviously you just gotta win seven. So i think for them is gonna be great. You know. I have a lot of confidence in our young guys over there. I really believe. And i think this is time for ucla. Really take the next step well. Joshua kelley of course of the chargers taken on the raiders. This weekend is ucla. Bruins are taken on colorado the buffaloes weekend joshua thank you so much always take time i man. We really appreciate it. We'll get back. How about this. You know next whenever ovid's over we can have a big chili cook off with. Josh will invite josh when he can he can. He can try all the chili right. You could be one of the judges. We can make this happen. What do you think. Yeah man. Always a pleasure to be here. I really appreciate you guys for having me on. Hey man when it turns chilly that killing cookout or whatever. I'm always available just hit me up and i'll be a lot just a quick question. Do.

"Of all. Thanks for having me. I'm excited to be here. And when it comes to chile like for me me personally. I don't really need beans on my chilly. I like to have cheese. Nice little chilly. Nice little chip. That is perfect for me so you can eat a meal of chili with no beans. And you're good. Yeah 'cause for me. I liked her. So big man being beans doing me really bad. So i'm perfectly gave without the cheese man. You give or take to be honest. You always gotta have cheese. You always bad cheeses such like a foundational piece. So you always gotta have that. I mean i do think any cheese sour cream will be nice enough ocado in there. You know what. I mean like you could throw that you throw a lot of stuff in agila. You know what. I mean like being can sour cream. Sour cream is actually a great choice with some jalapenos you can. You can't really mess around with you. You can mix around in there. I agree with you. But but if there's beans in there you cool it i'll eat it. I'll say this if there's beans in there is not a complete like i'll eat it. I'll let throughout the for sure. Okay fair enough. Iran argument so this quarterback you're playing with. We've talked a lot about him here recently. Okay how good is this dude. Okay like you are a professional football player. "Can. If you want I've heard that there's farts in the liquid. Okay. But there's also flavor in the liquid so you can keep the farts and the flavor or you can get rid of the arts and the flavor and change the liquid make sure you put some salt in there I like a bay leaf or other appropriate spices depending on the country whose cuisine I'm trying to evoke. which doesn't have to necessarily correspond to the origin of the bean. Absolutely not because pretty much every country in the World Scott Bean. Bring it up to a boil, turn it down to a simmer and cook it until the beans are tender. My Friend Tomorrow Adler says, you have to taste five beans and they all have to be cream in the middle. So if you taste five and one still crunchy, they're not done. In. My opinion you cannot overcook bean keep going keep going keep going. You want them to be like so silky and creamy on the inside and depending on the variety you know maybe has a snap to the skin. Oh, there is still the second half of lilies question, which was, what is your favorite way to cook a bean right now it's a role weird one but with me okay, I have some beans cooked and I've drained them I have some Farro that's been cooked and drained, and I heat up a pan like cast iron pan or just any frying pan really hot add some olive oil added you're drained Farro and you're drained beans I like to add some powdered. And a little bit of Chili Flake and salt just fry until things start getting crispy and then it's just this like crispy bean in Faro deliciousness. If you have some leftover roast chicken, you can shred that and now that in and this is kind of like a dish from Salvador that I love now as I talk about it, I, realize it's called Casimiro but it's just like you mix up beans and rice and you fry the crap out of. Until it gets crispy and so that is kind of this amazing vehicle to have. If you have a dollar per sour cream if you have any cheese degrade if you have like a jar salsa, you could put some chopped. Cilantro on top you can put an avocado on top dot with an avocado would be so good. It's just sort of like a beans and rice dish but a little bit crispier and chewier because the beans and the Farro are chewier. Their whole grains and it's just like guy I'm obsessed I don't know I'm a monster. People don't know that already I can confirm you are. Another being related question that actually goes back to the fartsy were talking about earlier in terms of the bean liquid. Here's a question from Anthony. What you the simmering liquid once you're done and I'm supposed to keep it a house on my freezer to do with it do you save your being simmering liquid? Well, one time I. Very clearly. Remember telling a cook who worked for me like almost scolding him that being liquid was more valuable than gold. And this is in the full chain of the bean. This is for you at least this is still the same liquid that you originally soaked the bean in for me. It's the exact same liquid, the original liquid also as I, take it off the stove I might add a glut gratuity olive oil that bean liquid is super valuable because there's been this beautiful exchange of starches right outside of the beans as they start to break down, and so it's just this like Fiqh, starchy unctuous texture and flavor, and that's why I think it's worth a lot of money. But what I don't think is that you should be saving nine thousand courts of it in your freezer. Like I would probably never save being liquid beyond my pot of beans unless I decided right. Then that day to make a pot of soup it's just that you definitely don't want to discard it before you're done eating beans because you should always store your beans in the fridge covered in liquid because otherwise they'll start to dry out and know that it's a really flavorful thing that you can use for say if you wanted to make a Warm Bean Salad I would use some of that liquid and mix it with olive oil and vinegar to make like a really sort of slurry vinaigrette like thick starchy Vinaigrette I. think it's a fantastic base for soups. Even if you're not making a bean soup, you could make like a nice rich sort of Tuscan cabbage soup and have that starchy us from the being in there I think rib Alita, which is one of my all time favorite soups. We're believed to just means re boiled. It's kind of classic Tuscan Peasant Food where they used whatever they had. They had beans, add cabbage potatoes, they it all in a pot through in the old stale bread and it turns into this like thick delicious rich mess. So you always need more liquid for that. So that's a way to use it up what I like about. This is that it really feels in the spirit of quarantine cooking not only. Cooking with what you've got but also using every part of it. Yeah. Using every part and then just extending it into the next meal. Yeah. It's a smart way to cut down on food waste. Yeah and you could probably like yummy up here being broth with some herbs and even a poached egg and turn that into a stylish breakfast. Here's a question that's related to grocery store shopping that is not about beans about vegetables frozen Mitchell's ooh awesome. High. SA- mean I'm Dana from Chicago wondering what kinds of frozen vegetables you think freeze especially well, what kinds you don't freeze so well, and also what sorts of dishes you think frozen vegetables are best in I. Mean he played another question just back Oh, my God doubleheader doubleheader. Here we go. I have tons of spinach that I don't want to spoil a lot of celery carrots and I'm wondering you might recommend is the best method to freeze fresh vegetables to prolong their life and reduce waste at a time like this. Thanks Oh my God, I love these questions and one more a tripleheader. My name is Laura and I'm from Burlington Ontario. My question for you today is, what is your writer Dai frozen vegetable for each of you and how would you prepare it especially with pantry items given that a lot of people are in quarantine right now, people want to know about frozen veggies. I'm so excited that we're not talking about beings anymore. You know I always have a pretty well stocked pantry but in pretty short order, we're all going to be eating really aged stuff and we're gonNA come to miss the taste of freshness and chief among that is vegetable taste. So really to me the first thing I did and basically one of the only measures I took was to go by many frozen vegetables as would fit in my very small freezer. My favorite is maybe not the most Let's say, sensible. Choice. But I do love pease English peas. I. Think they're really delicious and one of my favorite things to make with them is this super simple soup will put the a link to the recipe up. It's so so incredibly simple it's just peas I used chicken stock, but you could use veggie stock cooked together until the police are done and then spoonful of Tahini in there and then puree out until it's Silky Silky smooth. Oh,.

"Pull votes off that way but she might actually Sipe it a lot of Republican votes. Yeah I mean. She's on Fox News more than any the other channels. Yeah yeah and let's see everybody. poops trial started today. We learned Steve Fan. And it's going to be a key witness The prosecutor said in his opening statement. That stone lied to Congress so often because the truth would look bad trump. I'm so sorry to interrupt. We just sideline on CNN. That is not fun. Oh Yeah Jeff sessions's announcing a Senate run in Alabama gross. Go Away. Sorry Barf so sorry. Who probably win that? I don't it depends on it. Depends on who runs against him. Yeah God he's smiling again. I hated evil races. Possum fucking sucks so today in stone this FBI witness. I think it might have been re. She was one of the people who interviewed him. Wanted Muller's team. That did all the interviews with them. She was up there all all day and she said stone had multiple calls with trump three specifically. She brought out the call logs and three specific calls with trump st- between trump and stone on the day. The hack was publicly weekly reported so this is going to end badly for stone and probably for trump. Yeah and I also know to during prosecutors opening statement. They made sure to make it very clear that this is not a case about his conduct. In regard specifically you know to crimes that relate to contact with Russia Russia or contacts with high up trump officials that talk to Russia themselves this is overlying the Congress and obstruction of justice and threatening witness in threatening. Yeah witness tampering with his temper. Yeah witness intimidation. Yeah that's precisely what is And this Because I've been bannon is going to be like a key witness because at some point bannon stone emailed back and forth and and bannon stones. I think I can win this election. But it's GonNa get uglier something like that it ain't it ain't pretty could be pretty. It ain't pretty yeah And so what that does it was the thing to Manafort. It was like a have an idea half. Yeah got a yes some ominous but see the thing is is that an you know in order to prove that he lied to Congress. You have to go toward intent. And that's what stones defense lawyer was arguing you. You weren't in his mind. Thank God for that even if you don't know what he was thinking so they're going to have to talk about all of this conspiracy see with Russia and contacts with the president. They're going to have to get that out in the open in order to prove that he had this intent. The reason he lied was because it looked bad for trump and that is real and true and and the more they hammer on all these different little emails and things. That gates is going to say things that Bannon's GonNa say Shit that he talked Manafort Lord about. We'll prove that. I think it will bear out in the fence intense hard to prove not in this case. Yeah what's the name of his defense attorney. BAW BAW Gow Babbo Baucau B. O. G. O. W. I think Bogo Bug l.. I know that the a prosecutor is that was me today. Watching the news. Like Zilenski is talking about Roger Stone and I'm like President O- Alinsky the ski from Muller's Team I guarantee you there's already articles going around. That are just like see them. Them and to everyone who thought impeachment would ruin Democrats and hurt us in elections last night. We got a different message. And I hate to say I told you so. But that's a lie because I love to say I told you so much for real high five no matter what because it's looking like impeachment isn't going to negatively impact. Our Elections Kentucky has a Democratic governor as Bashir seems is to have beaten Bevan though Bevan hasn't conceded yet because he's giant fucking baby trump campaign for him he had that KKK rally. Pretty much. That night in Kentucky. We saw With Rand Paul trying to out the whistle blower challenging the media to out the whistle blower and in that county where trump had that rally bashir one to one he. He picked up support in major cities but the big story is he picked up the Cincinnati suburbs which always go republican any picked up votes in coal country which is unheard of because trump trump won one kentucky by thirty points and Mississippi Hood loss but only by six points that's bananas in Mississippi and that closed up a lot it did. It was a pretty wide margin at the beginning. Yeah closed up around. Six Points and Democrats took the Senate and House delegates in Virginia. Twenty one to nineteen in the Senate fifty three to forty two in the house More importantly though all this wind shows that gerrymandering matters because back in two thousand seventeen Dem's won the statewide vote by ten points but failed to take the house which came down to a tied race. That they they decided by drawing a name from a bowl and that turned out to be a Republican last night that Republican lost his seat in the dams were able to take both the house and the Senate and for the first time in four four hundred years and it is four hundred checked. The they were assembled in Sixteen Nineteen Jamestown at a choir church. That's one of the House of delegates. Started the female speaker of the House for the first time. Hell Yeah So in two thousand Seventeen Virginia was racially gerrymandered. But the courts killed that map and new maps were drawn for Twenty Nineteen Fair maps and and so now they were able to easily not easily but by two seat three seats two seats take the house or no fifty three forty two. That's eleven eleven seats aaliyah so gerrymandering matters and Republicans can't win unless itchy. Yes Did you see the statement from trump pence campaign about the Kentucky elections. Oh the one where they won. Yes well okay no really great in Kentucky less notices President Trump's uh-huh rally held This by Brad Park scale he says President Trump's rally held five of six Kentucky. Republicans win clear statewide. Victories including Attorney General Israel elect Daniel Cameron who will be the First Black AG in Kentucky History in the first Republican to hold the office in one thousand nine hundred forty eight. The president just about dragged governor owner Matt Bevin across the finish line helping him run stronger than expected in what turned into a very close race at the end a final outcome remains to be seen this around trump. Hurt him on you dumb ass your ear so sad right now. McConnell is scared of Oh oh yes we're going to get to that in Hashtag Also trump junior out of the whistle blower on twitter. And now there's a house resolution to protect the whistle blower and this isn't just a stunt to create an enemy for trump to go after which we talked about but this is also a way for trump to silence future whistleblowers through taxation and intimidation. And that's frightening. Yeah and we'll the Republicans got the record today. Yeah Yeah in Natasha Bertrand reported that by asking dressing the add directly had ever had the conversation nations with this person specifically to the it's in the record and it was tweeted out by junior Dan all right time title shot on Friday to make feel better from Huffington. Post remember the cyclist who flipped off trump's motorcade and was fired from her job. She just wanted Virginia election. Julie Brickman will now be On the Loudon County Board of supervisors. So congrats Julie Hell. Yes I love that so hard to see. People think that protesters are just like Kula Gins but no nope. We're county board of Supervisors Doing Kids Balk. Yes let's so. Awesome trump trump. And what a great way to use that viral fame for a minute to run To make a difference to serve the people I think that that's so outstanding. Yeah Yeah if you're in a position where you have the ability to run for office fucking like yes as long as you haven't been to comedian for ten years. Yeah all of our records. Are I think I think we're best served podcasting. Yeah I was way too radical in college to ever hold a governmental I worked for the government to radical Michael. So let's get social all right right. Now there's a couple of cool things trending Hashtag March Moscow Mitch's next. He's up for reelection in two thousand twenty in Kentucky and we just proved in Kentucky. The Democrats can win in statewide races. also thanks to Holly Figueroa. The founder of Blue Wave crowdsource who pointed out that McConnell's fundraising pales in comparison to his dumb challenger. Amy McGrath in quarter three alone. She received two hundred ninety nine thousand contributions with average contribution being thirty six dollars and She got in Kentucky Donors. These aren't outside donors and she got donations. Agents from all one hundred twenty counties adding up to eleven million dollars Turtle Dick Mitch raise nine million. All Year Well wow it really writing on that incumbency incumbency Probably outside late outside. Donations got an eighteen percent approval rating Dan thirty-seven percent. Only thirty seven percent. Say they would vote for. Wow that's surprising. I mean not. Because like he doesn't deserve it obviously but just because I would have thought that the the only way he could stay in power this longest because people like him. Yeah nope it was probably the Gerrymandering Shit. Yeah that's very true. So he's exceedingly Bingley vulnerable and not just in his election but in the impeachment situation holly tells us to watch him closely and see if he waivers and and and also support a McGrath. If you get a chance so so you can check out Hashtag Mosh Moscow Mitch's next and keep it trending also trending Hashtag extortionist trump also trending right now and I'm trying to get Hashtag. ASHTEC trump bribed Ukraine going. I think bribe is going to be the word that we should use and I know that he extorted but he also did bribe and bribery is right there in the the constitution. Bribery high crimes and misdemeanors is still bribing. If it's like here's this thing we normally give you. I'm going to withhold this well. He bribed them with the White House. Meeting Yeah Uh. He bribed them with the White House. Meeting in exchange for investigations. And saying it out loud and you can bribe him with the reward of releasing. I mean if you think think about the reward of releasing the military aid right but I think that's more extortion You know you have to say this or you're not gonNA get this. Yeah uh either way extortions not in the constitution and I think it would confuse trump supporters. It's just a it's a big word. Let's just go with bribe. But I mean us both hell. I'm not going to die on that hill. Yeah I guess they're just more nuanced kind of in concept and quid pro. Quo Is maybe we'll quid. Pro Quo I think because the collusion of the Ukraine scandal. That's they're trying to use that word I think they're trying to put it out there and then to say there's no such there's no law. Yeah Yeah Even though you don't need to have yeah that's a good insight. I think you're probably right on that. Because that's all trump ever says no quid pro quo. No quid pro quo his language but even if there was it's not our legal right same shit. Yeah all it except way more out in your face evidence than the last time around. Yeah that's why I think bribery and extortion are better words to us and and like I said it's right there in the constitution. That's what you impeach someone for. This is why the articles of impeachment were created for this very exact purpose. Exactly this bribing. A foreign government yelled to help interfere in the election to gain power access to our government So that's our show okay. Cool so thanks for the many beans many. Who Don't know if you guys get here that but many many? CBS This many beans who just came out and he thought uh-huh can I shout out. I've created a twitter list for the Roger Stone trial that has been helpful over the last day because yesterday there wasn't very much other than stone chance himself continuously. Everybody okay so Zoey Tillman yes until using hers are my favorite. I think mine too Natasha Bertrand is great. Also an attache Bertran herself recommended. That you follow Darren Samuelson Yup. I'm great he's a politico guy..

Meeting yeah he bribed them with the White House meeting in exchange for an investigation and saying it out loud. Yeah and you can bribe with the reward of releasing I mean if you think about the reward of releasing the military aid right but I think that's more extortion You know you I have to say this or you're not going to get this. Yeah either way Extortions not in the constitution. And I think it would confuse trump supporters. It's just a it's a big word. It's just go with bribe but I mean us both how you know. I'M NOT GONNA die on that Hill. Yeah I guess they're just more nuanced kind of in concept and quid pro quo. Maybe we'll quid. Pro Quo. I think is the collusion of the Ukraine scandal. That's they're trying to use that word I think they're trying to put it out there and then to say there's no such. There's no longer. Yeah Yeah Even though you don't need to have yeah that's a good insight. I think you're probably right on that. Because that's all trump ever says no quid pro quo. No quid pro quo as his language anguish But even if there was it's not illegal right same shit. Yeah all it means except way more out in your face evidence than the last time around. Yeah that's why. Oh I think bribery and extortion are better words to us and like I said it's right there in the constitution. That's what you impeach. Someone for. This is why the articles of impeachment were created for this very exact purpose. Yeah exactly this. Bribing foreign government yelled to help interfere in the election to gain power access to our government. so oh that's our show. Yeah cool so thanks for the many beans many so if you guys could hear that you mean this mini beans just came out. Rod had Any thoughts Can I shout out. I've created twitter list for the Roger Stone trial that has been helpful over the last day. Yeah I do because yesterday. There wasn't very much other than stone. Chance himself continuously everybody. Okay so Zoey Tillman. Yes so amazing. Hers are my favorite. I think mine too Natasha Bertrand is great. Also and Tasha Bertram yourself recommended that you follow. Oh Darren Samuelsson great. He's a politico guy. "Take all right so the first big story that broke Thursday is that the Justice Department has apparently only rejected Andrew McCabe bid to avoid charges and we thought that he was going to be indicted but there's today today I mean we talked about this August twenty six a couple of weeks ago when when his lawyers met with Jeff Rosen the the deputy attorney general and Jessie Liu and we thought oh he's going to be indicted so anyway there was news came come came out of the DOJ today which is interesting so kind of take it with a grain of salt but there's something else going on here even though the Washington Post this is reported that Jessie Liu and the line prosecutors in DC recommended charges against McCabe even though two of line prosecutors quit in the middle of the investigation because because I didn't like the way it was being handled Spencer Sue from Washington Post tweeted today that the federal grand jury investigating McCabe was suddenly called back to after months like they had like a months-long height and they were just suddenly called back so maybe they balked uninviting. McCabe and the message seems to be unclear. It's weird so we haven't heard anything since this morning but we will keep you posted on it. and I've got a lot of good inside sources on this and you know I'll I'll. I'll give you the latest that I can and right now. I don't have any off the record stuff that I know that I can't tell you. This is just where we're at. I did have some but then that reporting came to light and then also today Thursday the House Judiciary voted and passed their committee impeachment rules that we've been talking about who bring it back yeah and so now everyone I know you're mad out about how long impeachment is taken. I mad about how long impeachment has taken but it's time to stop being mad about it. Because now it's happening and we can't go back in time so we have to go forward so yes. It sucks that we didn't start this earlier. I think personally think that right after Muller testified right after mull report came out we should have passed ask these rules and started impeachment hearings they did in my mind started impeachment inquiry after Muller Testified Nadler then immediately petitioned the court for the grand jury materials invoking article impeachment powers but you know people are like no but this using the exact Watergate map of impeachment hearing rules and invoking like bringing in the president and how he can respond to this. It's clear to me now that we are now impeachment and the House Judiciary dumbs actually tweeted weeded out whether you call it an impeachment inquiry whether you call it an impeachment investigation legally they mean the same thing and that's what we're doing. That's so exciting so it is. It's very exciting even though I know that I need to mitigate hopes because it's probably not gonna go. I wanted to go right now yeah but at least they're at least they'll have the confidence. Representatives are doing what their job is. Yes yes and keep in mind. Impeachment was never going to get rid of them. So it's not like had. They started impeachment earlier. We could have gotten rid of trump's sooner. That's not how it works. The Senate is probably not going to vote. They probably aren't even going to take up the trial McConnell at Lou likely block it as he said he said that he would all this means that they're doing their constitutional duty and that we're going to have public hearings and we're going to be able to get the evidence we need and it's going to be going into the twenty twenty election cycle. We are always going to have to vote them out. We we had to were still have to no matter matter what and we couldn't have impeached him before January of this year anyway because the House Judiciary Committee was run by Republicans previous to January two thousand nineteen so I think it's going I again. I wish they would have opened an official impeachment inquiry after Muller testify but they didn't and now here we are so we're going to go forward with it and that's that's that's. That's how it's going. Natasha Bertrand who's been reporting on the US Air Force investigation into expenditures at trump properties specifically the turnberry resort and Glasgow. Oh she she broke the story that they stayed there. Once and everyone was like Holy Shit and then she came out and said Oh nope they've stayed there a couple of times that we know about now and then the air force we're going to look into it will the air force has already done with their preliminary investigation into this and they're preliminarily the Air Force has lodged crews at trump's turnberry resort forty times since two thousand fifteen to him now figure this far higher than any previously known and congressional. Democrats are also trying to investigate this but guess what the PR-. The Pentagon hasn't provided any information every investigation the dumpster doing is they're being stonewalled on and this is just where we're at home mm-hmm. I saw Scott Stedman comment on twitter thread that had the story in its saying. Can we give the number from January two thousand seventeen but it's like even twenty fifteen if if he even thinks at all that he has a remote chance of getting elected then he's GonNa Start working that plan out yeah and here's the thing if you're the air force it's two thousand fifteen and Barack Obama's president you can stay at the turnberry resort if it's within the the the per diem lodging per diem for the military and and then once trump becomes president you don't stay there anymore because then you're violating the emoluments clause because you're personally enriching the president because he never divested himself from the trump organization which runs the trump hotels but as thirty eight times in two thousand fifteen before trump took over obviously that is not so you know that's it's what you're supposed to do. You know people do under Obama. Obama doesn't own turnberry so I don't want to hear your weak ass argument about he did it in two thousand fifteen it trump and then you know they were saying in the article that Oh you know they were charging him one hundred and thirty dollars a night to stay at turnberry which is within the government. That's the government rate but it doesn't matter you can't give of a dime to a president. You can't enrich a president with using the military's money it's it's against friggin constitution and even if if it did if it didn't qualify as an emolument which I think that it clearly does but even if it doesn't it is a bad look. It looks really bad in the Air Force has conceded that they've said we're I'm looking into it whether this is illegal or whether it violates any rules or policies of the air force they haven't even talked about emoluments and it might not be emoluments because of monuments mostly is for foreign governments and this is the US military but you know just to to enrich yourself off the government off of the job of president. There's there's a that ah that's a bad look and it's impeachable offence. It is so I shouldn't I should keep I should stop bringing the emoluments clause when it comes to this because it's not a foreign it's not like when when Saudi Arabia came in and bought the entire floor of the trump. DC We have enough of monuments problems. Space should be considered foreign. It's weird that you get to claim airspace. Oh Oh Yeah Air Force Air Forces and and they work in outerspace totally foreign there you go that they are in American reinstitution so I guess we can't fall under emoluments but it's certainly bad look and again it. These these ethical rules norms that we've been following forever that just don't don't have any teeth. There's there's a problem with that. If there wasn't a problem with that congresswoman be investigating it and they can't even get the stuff that they need that they need also we learned Thursday that Epstein Stein's shady secret charity called gratitude America Gross operated through an account at Deutsche Bank. Just like we guest beans come true. Didn't we say that like a couple of weeks ago. We're like buddy runs everything out of Deutsche Bank yeah gratitude America Gratitude America gratitude for what ruining my whole conception of my adolescent life exactly so awful gratitude for the plane loads of underage girl yeah God God so that's and I wanNA tell you we're we're flying through these stories real quick. You're not know what Sean Fraud Is. Please tell me because I'm dying to know jamming. Tampa Shameful Gye okay member remember the black man that president trump referred to as my African American rally. He's leaving the Republican Party and he's going to run for a seat as an independent in twenty twenty. Oh my God that is bad ass. Wow Okay so really the way out of this blatant. Racism is more blatant racism so people turn and run for the seats themselves yeah. This is a great message. The only way out is through that agreement finding Nemo right yeah but then that fat guy quote unquote quote trump or whatever he's just fine with it. He's like I'm not getting off my ass to run. I'm not in that was not a fat joke. No but you know I mean trump. Gregory cheadle lives in Redding California. I don't know if that's where he's running but he's running in twenty twenty as an independent and that's cool is tired of trump's bullshit bad ass.
