How B-787 Captain Shreenand Sadhale got his start in aviation
"So tells you got your start in aviation. Well I grew up in India. And you know in India as you. Envision isn't as accessible as it is Let's say in the US. So there's no there was actually no generally vision avenue I grew up in the eighties. But we used to live. Right on the final four and the one four. And this is the time when jets. Loud. and. Quite a spectacle come into. And even though they were not too many a couple of jets. Rushed to the window to see them. It was always an exciting part of. Growing up. Watching these airplanes I had no family who was involved in aviation, but my dad used to travel a lot. And going. To the airport to receive and. That was quite. It was quite excited and. Attracted me to, but I guess it was. was. Okay. So how old were you when you took your first flying lesson that? Point. Twenty twenty-six, what happened was I always wanted to be a pilot. I. My vision was in twenty grigny anymore. So the was out of the picture. and. The fact that I couldn't fly fighters anymore meant my interest sort of windows into. Automobiles and motorcycles. Which is why I ended up being automobile engineer. But I was interested in working at a desk so I started writing or magazines. And I started off, my first job was actually. As a motoring journalist. And I was having a great time driving getting invited on test drive and bribing all sorts of. was sort of. started to come back a little bit and I guess I was looking up. As to how I could still become a pilot. that point in time Singapore Airlines as luck would have it. This compute bureau luck as Singapore Airlines came up with an ad in the newspaper for their credit. And the deal was that debate for your flying. The Youtube underplay. And you had to work with them for seven years. And when I read it I, it felt like the sort of thing that only happens to somebody else. I don't. So so they are going to pay they're going to pick up the TAB and there's only a seven year commitment. That's a good deal. It has been I mean have done it for. So I. But I didn't really expect that I would get through. So i. sent him application then as like whatever they would call. I give the interviews. And the other funny story about the interview. You had to down what Ellen you wanted to go to India group. So there was a choice between Singapore Airlines passenger line. Silkair, which is the regional airline. And as I got. And I wrote a Kabul has my first choice. And they were quite stunned because in the first interview, they asked me. You show you I go because you have to make off. Because I I will because I make great coffee. and. I really do want to fly the seven four seven. And in the second interview again. Asked me. Don't. I said. I know people were was in buffalo so I have absolutely no. No. No did you say the way to ministry? Did you say this because you thought it would be an easier way to get hired or do you really want to fly boxes instead of people? I just wanted to fly the seven I. I didn't really okay what? What it was filled with. A really really wanted to fly December seven and you add it was being phased out by the time. I would have gone online right? So the only way to get the flight would be to cite S I will. Okay. So they hired you right. Did I mean as? I say it's one of the best mistakes made released. Get in as through the cracks and Between was done in two parts. You had to do the ground school I in single. and. After that, you did the initial part of the ocean licensed in. Australia. Oh. Okay. Now all the the ground school and everything I. Assume there were people from all different countries was all the training conducted in English. Yes. It was and there was a little bit of lying on one fifty two in Singapore. Essentially just to see if you could. You know you had the hand eye coordination and that sort of thing. Aviv. Singapore study was essentially just to clear your eighty peel. So that's how they did was they made sure you could read the Terry. And once you got your DP, which was the frozen beal. Scientists, which was in Australia. Okay and how many hours did you get in Australia? So we the one seven do and the barren, and that was about fifty dollars. But here's the interesting part the for the guy who went on the white bodies. They made them fly. Lear jet for twenty hours. In the Brisbane and a this used to happen when I was in the program opted after that. That is one program that I could really signed up. And more years of my life. To plan because. It. It is quite a yeah and quite fantastic experiences when to fly away forty five meaning.

And that Apparently, he didn't have any problem. Without as GM. And Hint said I'd like to thank. sillage and Al Allah for giving me a chance and the opportunity back in the dugout and lead the historic ballclub. Last year was the most difficult of my life. He gave me time to reflect. which was such a big part of this process everything that has transpired over the past year personally and professionally. As put so much in perspective from me. And reinforced how important it is to do things with integrity and honesty. and. He concludes quote my feelings towards baseball are the same at so many detroiters. Have for this team. Through thick and thin, you always care about it. Rely on it. For it to be a part of your life and I'm so proud to play a role in growing that tradition here with the Tigers. Having a talented young core of players dedicated leadership groups and passionate fan base was exactly what I was looking for in a team. And it's clear that we have that here in. Detroit. Sites, it's time to start. Laying winning baseball and I'm. This organization has position to make that happen him. Aj hinch the former Oakland draft pick out of Stanford. Is, back in. Baseball? And? We'll get back then the second let's go to the phone lines one, eight, hundred, eight, seven, play Hell's kitchen charlie what's up man? Already doing my friend Few questions. Three questions specifically baseball basketball football. What's your feeling about the white? SOX macos. Marriage. Only eleven. Hundred Sixty. Nine years old. Seventy six years old and. I'm very surprised that this is a guy that has managed for what nine years he's already hall of fame. She got a ring with the Red Sox as a just a front office helper guy too. That's another one to throw on the old hand but I think the dusty Baker thing? Helps, but also the friendship that he has with Charlie. REINSDORF and he was mad at Hawk Harrelson fired him in eighty six. So it's a very unique thing, but it is weird man. Yeah I read that he had strong digitize the organization still but I mean listen if Biden wins presidency and he's the president seventy, seven and dusty. Seventy Connie mack was a manager eighty seven. Why Not That's how me he's a sick of being with his wife. Well you know what else is weird to? You when you speak about the candidates. These. Candidates for president are both older. And Clinton and George Bush who we elected in the nineties I don't know I seventy is the new forty. You know I'd rather have forty but this is what we have to work with for now quick football question with with the trait looming deadline looming. If you're the raiders stugotzs go out and make an acquisition of someone like. went to Seattle but like the Gino. Acting. Kerrigan you know would that you had tried to bring in a piece or you just Ride with I would I would look at I would look at both of those guys if they're I for sixth and seventh round picks, I'm not trading anything. EVALU-. For some broken down that trend at this point, they have to draft better this this whole thing that they've been doing with all these receivers and tight ends and you know I've been saying this for years to just draft all seven rounds on defense they're they're the worst team in the NFL against the run and you know thorough can't do anything and. Trying to get sacks which he's not getting. It's just they gave me collins all that money. They've done a piss poor job on on defense. So yeah, Carrigan. Him for six round pick. I'm not giving you A to forum. No, no I agree with you think their. Free Agency and the way they handle draft is just as you say, Piss poor and they need to. Reassess. How they approach things. But anyway. So and finally, NBA Question Warriors. Number two pick rolling mill seems to be that they're closely oppression whitesman at the moment. if you're the warriors and tickets selected. Up Three Tech. You drive the Weizmann warm. Say. I'm not. GonNa Mention. Anymore but say, though was. Contact you and they say, we want to offer you Bradley beal for your number two next year as well and. and. Wiggins which make by charities stick to your guns and draft. Weisman or whomever all be token. Yeah, look I mean Bradley Beal Plays Clay's position. He's twenty. Twenty eight years old now. So I I would say no to that I mean look there are some intriguing guys ob top intriguing and Denny. Agios however, you say it he's intriguing and of course, everyone likes Anthony Edwards and Lamelo ball but. I think if they do stay there even though I've seen them dropped six and some mocks I don't think that's possible but. Wiseman when he had that whole thing, go down with Penny Hardaway and all that he was supposed to be the consensus number one overall pick the thing I like about him is not only as he seven foot one and growing, but he's he's two hundred and forty pounds. You know he's not a stick and he not only scored twenty points a game he pulled down eleven rebounds a game so that to me means he can play defense and he can play offense. So. I know he's just a kid but I would probably go wiseman. Yeah I think so too the more I'm reading about him in educating myself about him I think I think in that in that system with that team, and then you won't. They can groom slowly. you know maybe he's the mid level exception for Marcus O. or something like that and bring him along slowly I I would stick with that two minutes not. ENOUGH MEMPHIS? Trading zapping number one pick. Dr. Larry. Taking between. The browns and the raiders in Cleveland this weekend well. I if if if the If the if the raiders had A. A below average defense. which they don't even have that I would think the rate is the win. I don't know I don't know what to expect every. Cleveland's defense is supposed to be future. So that's bodes well for the raiders. Myles Garrett is playing her you know Odell Beckham out. Chubb running back is.

"And you know, we we don't know like I'm sure he will get back there, but you don't know if you're the Nets like that's an uncertainty. And so you need somebody who you can who you can kind of plug in right away. And you know, you're going to produce because it's Championship or bust next season. So I would think Drew holiday would be the target ahead of all Depot just because of those factors. Do you think that Bradley Beal in Washington is a ship sailed? Excuse me? Bradley Beal going from Washington to the Memphis ship sailed, you know, I wouldn't say I'm not sure thing but I certainly think that for obvious reasons teams are going to continue to to monitor that situation and you know, if he's there at the beginning year, which I think he will be dead if they get off to a slow start or like struggle again, like you saw how frustrated he was last year with leaves and and then he doesn't get the the designation towards that you know, you probably deserved because of the numbers that he put up you seem to be in all NBA player to me. So you just wonder if the frustration builds up and both sides say or he says lets, you know, get me out of here get some get something in return for me cuz I'm going to walk at the end of my contract. I like that's just what people are monitoring, but I wouldn't say like him to Brooklyn as a short thing or anything like I think it kind of depends on how the Wizards do early in the season or if a team totally blows Washington away with an offer which I would be surprised if that happened between now and the beginning of next year. So before I go into the put back, I feel like with all these phone calls all these stream yards all these podcasts. This is taking me back to like grad school at Hofstra University and where I've got my blazer on. I've got my microphone on the collar shirt and tie kind of like you took like a grad student. Is that what we're trying to say? No, but check this out here. You have to set up in your house with SNY. How often are not. Are you rocking basketball shorts on the set, I have right now. I have shorts not basketball shorts, but definitely I haven't worn pants since March. So since we've been working remotely, I have not worn pants. I just there's no reason for it. So I'm always shorts. I'm always comfortable basketball shorts regular shorts that's always the case. I just want to be comfortable and and you No, man, like no one seeing you from the waist down. Although it wasn't there a clip on I think it was maybe ABC. Yeah. I was doing a hit the camera was going to his box. So you want to avoid that but certainly there's no need to put pants on right now. No, I think it's it's I mean, let me ask you this if we had a question for you actually thought we met were you in grad school? Cuz I could tell you where we met. You may not remember Carmello's basketball camp Saint Johns. Yeah. I remember that could be reduced up to me and I was like, I like this kid, he's aggressive appropriately aggressive as is what I remember thinking..

It's Not Just Hospitals That Are Quick To Sue Patients Who Can't Pay
"These days hospital emergency rooms are often run by a separate company not the hospital itself and until recently one of the largest of those companies had been systematically suing patients who couldn't afford to pay bleak farmer from member station W. P. L. N. in Nashville has more Nashville. General Hospital is where patients without insurance are expected to go. It's funded by the city and it's where Sonya Johnson was sent after going to the doctor with a swollen tongue and feeling lethargic economy bag that Halloween Day. And say I need to get to the emergency stat? And they're waiting on you when you get. Their general hospital kept her overnight for severe anemia and gave her a blood transfusion. They wanted to keep her a second night. But Johnson is a single mom who was uninsured at the time and she was wearing and I just baked them not to you know because I was thinking. Oh this beal. The bill from the hospital itself wasn't so bad. The financial counselors offered a seventy five percent discount since her job as a social worker didn't offer insurance then came a twenty seven hundred dollar bill from southeastern emergency. Physicians didn't know who the hey are. Even today turns out it's a regional subsidiary of team health one of the two largest ER staffing firms in the nation. She called team health to see if she could get a break. She can only leave messages and then a knock at her apartment door over the summer. A sheriff's deputy with a summons to appear in court. It's very scary. I mean thinking what have I done? You know for medical beal. Being sued over medical debt raises the stakes because a company can garnish patients wages. Medical dead is the number one cause of bankruptcy in the US. And that's not good for the health of people who are uninsured says Bruce Narrow more believe it or not when patients money and they feel like they're being done all the time they don't come back to the hospital to get what they might need. Narrow more is the chief financial officer at Nashville General under his leadership. The hospital stopped suing patients for unpaid bills. He says it was rarely worth. The court costs or the stress on patients. But he says he can't control doctors in the Er they're employed by a firm owned by private equity investors. It's a private entity that runs the emergency room. And it's the cost of doing business. If I restrict them from collecting dollars than my cost is gonNA very likely go up or I'm going to have to find another provider to do it. This is a common refrain. Says Robert Goff? He's a retired hospital executive who helped found a charity that focuses on medical debt. The hospital citizens as well. You know it's not my responsibility. We have a contract with them. We don't tell them what to do so. The hospital sits there and says not my problem. That's irresponsible is in every sense of the word what's surprising to Gov. Is that an er at a safety net. Hospital could be doing the same thing. Court records show seven hundred lawsuits in twenty nineteen just from the doctors in that he. Our team health operates roughly one ten ers in the US and a suit thousands of patients in Memphis to team health declined an interview request but said in a memo. They have stopped doing patients. Nationwide and say they'll drop pending cases like the one against Sonya. Johnson cannot pay this company when I couldn't even pay for Healthcare. Johnson says she's been told she still owes her full bill. She just won't have her paycheck docked in order to pay up for NPR news. I'm Blake farmer in Nashville.

"DC Sports related in these cross sport props so we have a Where was this okay so penguins and capitals play that afternoon early right for the first four games between the two games total goals and penguins verse caps versus George Kettle Receptions options say that again total goals scored in that game penguins caps in typical over under an hockey's like seven versus George Kell receptions Where where is where is the kill receptions number right now six and a half seven yes? So they're they're both right around the same I I will go based on what you told me about the Garoppolo passing yardage number. I'll go over the kettle. Yeah I'll go kill in that spot and another Sir Georgetown Place Saint John's so Georgetown Saint John's total-points minus ten and a half versus kindle and Kelsey total receiving yards plus ten and a half hold on again. Georgetown the final score the total points between Georgetown and Saint John's minus ten and a half versus kiddle title and Kelsey receiving yards combined. Okay so you're talking about you know a Georgetown's playing Saint John's You're probably talking about a total of one forty five. And we're talking about combined yardage of what Kittelmann Kelsey Kelsey and the basketballs laying ten and a half on met yes I'll go killing Kelsey plus the ten and a half. This is ridiculous of course Israel but the Jersey number to score the first touchdown over under twenty six and a half. We'll so I did see some prop bets on that breaking it down on between like zero to ten eleven to Twenty and eleven to twenty was the favourite. So you're saying the over under twenty six on the Jersey number to score the first touchdown getting plus one twenty if you take the over oh definitely taken the you gotta take the under. Because tyreek Hill wears number ten and Patrick mahomes whereas number fifteen and Garoppolo wears number ten John and Samuel has it in a number doesn't kill Kelsey and Mostert. Oh if you go over right. Because mustards thirty one Damian Williams no number twenty six twenty six and a half so yeah. So you know twenty-six Nazi Williams on the under. I'll take the under yeah to under on that and there were a couple of ones just again going back to the fun stuff here that I wanted to point out because they're ridiculous but I also think they might be locks at plus money One is will they mentioned where he moster is an undrafted free agent or was they undrafted free agent in the broadcast plus one thirty of course they will. Yes yes exactly. I mean you're talking about from the not in the pre-game but when the broadcast star checking off kicking to new final whistle halftime does not count. So it's it's the broadcast it's bucking Aikman. Yeah right it's a Fox game right. Yes Yellow mentioned that he's an undrafted undrafted. Free agent at some point in this game you know. Watch him get hurt on the first play. And then they'll just say the undrafted free agent done for the day All right go here. There were a couple of other of these kind of broadcast props. Will they show Joe Montana playing with the chiefs. A clipper picture the yes at least at the time was plus fifty. I think the odds are better that we're GONNA see Hank Schram as a part of this broadcast from some of the super bowl four stuff. Yeah I Dunno I feel for that one and then the other one a couple of people are talking about is Andy Reid will they show Andy Reid in punt pass and kick contel. Yes well they mentioned. We're are Andy. Reid is about eight inches taller in seventy five pounds heavier than any kid in punt pass and kick competition which he competed in. Do you know. Do you know what that highlight is from. I can tell you right now. What it was from? Because you're not going to know the answer okay. It's from Monday night. Game in nineteen seventy one at the L A coliseum featuring during the La Rams and Washington. Redskins oh I didn't realize. The redskins was the redskins first season under George Allen. Coaching against his former team. It was one of the highlights. Highlight Games of the season in nineteen seventy-one George Allen going back to La to coach against the rams. The redskins won the game and clinched their first playoff berth and like twenty five years in the NFL on a Monday night football game in la in at the end of the third quarter. The reason I know hi. This is because the broadcast of that game the actual ABC Monday night game broadcast with Frank. Gifford and Dan Meredith in Howard cosell is available on Youtube in at the end of the third quarter when they used to have the punt pass and kick you guys come out and do the competition. There was a picture and you see it young. The Andy Reid who is bigger than every other. Get out there Little did they know that night. That Andy Reid would become a former would become a future NFL potential essential. I think Almost a walk to haul him coach They'll mention at some point. What price semi getting? I guess money or no. Actually they was plus money. Yes yes there's plus money I haven't played that one yet. I don't know if not yet one more one more good one. Oh One more really good one okay you know. What will the team that scores? I win the game. Yes is minus. I WANNA say it was minus one fifty and no oh was plus one forty. Take the knowing that take. Yeah especially with the way the chiefs games have been going lately right exactly Have have fun people. Be careful though because with all those bets in some of these sites have you know we're talking about over a thousand. Yeah you know appropriate appropriate opportunities. You can get sucked into it and you. Can you know the next day. Be Looking to borrow money from somebody to pay your guy All right let's finish up the show with a scorned score.

"Really do think he's got that but I also don't want to forget Alex Smith. Here's a guy that's doing everything he can to come back and come back and beat a player that he was us. You know we have a good situation. We have competition at that position. And that's what we want to create. We want to create an atmosphere of competition. We want these guys competing because we want to put the best players players on the football field. All right two things From what Ron Rivera told a AL and DOC Number one is this need to sued. Dwayne Haskins Dwayne Haskins take the leadership mantle. He has said this before. I think this is coming from place of you. Know he's got the proof some things we're not handing handing anything I like that I think it's also coming from a place of being legitimately Curious as to whether or not he'll be able to pull this off Haskins. You know I think this is is very important to to Ron Rivera. Now practically speaking join Haskins is the only quarterback under contract. It's healthy right now for next year. He's also a first round. Pick a guy that Rivera had suggested. The Panthers had graded as a first round guy and he improved throughout the end of last year I loved how he referred to the Detroit game. If you recall I came in here after that Detroit game with a lot of you telling me how bad dwayne was in how inaccurate he was and how it was alarming. How bad he was and I sat here and said I was absolutely impressed because of the final two drives of the game? I saw guy that did struggle at times during that game. Thirteen to twenty nine for one hundred and fifty six yards. threw an interception fumble no offense of touchdowns in the game and he was overthrowing people missing people all day long but He made plays with the a game on the line. Not Not a one dry but on two drives down sixteen thirteen with five minutes to go and he led that scoring drive with a couple of big. Plays including a couple scrambles That got him into field goal range to tie the game and then at the end of the game made a big play on third and five refound Terry maclaurin for a seventeen yard completion in the put him in winning field goal possession position with the game on the line. He was six for nine for seventy nine yards and had a huge scramble for eleven yards. So so I liked that. He played with an urgency competitive level that matched the moment he played with a ton of confidence. It was the thing that I had mentioned going back to the preseason games. He doesn't in place scared he's not afraid. He carries himself like he belongs. You know and I didn't I don't I'm not a box score reader. Most of you know that that listen to me. I I read box scores. I don't use them as the only way to evaluate when I'm watching. I watched the Games in that game. It wasn't about his statistical little box score. It was about what he did on those final two drives and I was glad to hear Ron Rivera mentioned the Detroit game because he had other games that were much more impressive. Statistically statistically you know the game against the giants game against The Eagles were he really got it. Going in both of those games that Detroit game. He put that team on his back onto drives where they needed to scores. And they won The leadership thing I ah where do they go I mean he he mentions Alex Smith unsolicited. He did that again. By the way on. I take about a half hour ago really yes again with the Alex Smith. Yeah really look given what they're going to pay Alex Smith it would be in the best. It'd be the best result for the organization to have Alex Smith Healthy and ready you to play in twenty twenty. You know with what they're paying him. It'd be much better if he were able to play the not play and if he doesn't play well enough to to win the job if he's legitimately healthy enough to compete for the job. What a great backup and mentor like he was with Patrick Mahomes when he was starting when Patrick Mahomes was sitting? We've heard that a lot this week about Patrick Patrick mahomes crediting. You Know Alex Smith in that first year for being a terrific mentor. Dwayne Haskins has referred to how Close Alex Smith have become in how important Alex Smith has been to him more than anybody else in the building. I just I can't believe Alex Smith is GonNa play next year. But what do we know. we keep hearing from many people out there that that if anybody can do it. Alex Smith can do it I think the Dwayne Haskins is going to be the starting quarterback. I want Dwayne Haskins to be the starting quarterback and I want him to listen to what the the head coach is saying. Listen to what people doubted him on early. In the season and part of this is on the team to teach him as a very the young player that hasn't started a lot of games high school college and pro. Some of this is going to be on the adults in the room. Now that there are some in the room teach him what Aaron Rodgers does with. Tom Brady does what Patrick Mahomes does. What the great ones do how the great ones need to be committed a certain level we heard Scott Turner? I don't know two weeks ago when he was on that conference call with the With the beat reporters say that. He's got to be the guy that knows the offense better than anybody in the building other than the offense coordinator and even as much as the offensive coordinator. He will gain respect respect and he will buy respect. Become a leader by the increased respect. Become a leader. If he knows this thing every we wish way to Sunday he can tell Terry maclaurin note on this when you're lining up in this position if he knows that offense and he knows that playbook better than anybody somebody else I hope he really digs into it. I know it improved significantly. I heard from people that said he was a different guy after he started starting When he got the starting job against the bills and if he really commits to it and they help him and they teach him how to how to learn how to commit? And what's what what what it's like to be truly professional if you WANNA be elite at the position in the NFL. I hope he gets after it man. 'cause I don't WanNa see Alex Smith Stark Twenty twenty. I don't WanNa see Brett Hundley or Teddy Bridgewater case keenum in here. Starting I WANNA see Dwayne Haskins in twenty twenty. He's got talent want he's got an edge to that I like I want to see him. Really take ownership of this thing and take you know take Ron Rivera literally and become that leader through a work ethic and through a commitment to understanding what he's doing out there so that he knows it better than anybody else. I hope it happens. Happens I. I'm I'm optimistic. That it will All right let's get to some super bowl talk. What you say about that Let's get.

"Love that at the end He's GonNa show you rather than tell you I like that Just so you know if you if you haven't listened into a lot of Bradley beal over the years. He is very religious in. There's always before any answer in any interview. He thanks his Lord and Savior. Jesus is Christ. It's it's the way he starts every single post game interview any interview I've ever brought me every every single scrum to every single you know media you know gathering That That that Aaron goes to a lot so He did mention disrespectful. And he's pissed. It's fine but you also said I'm GonNa try to get my team to the playoffs and I thought playoffs. Are you serious. And then I looked at the standings. They're only four and a half games out in a terrible eastern conference. They terrible defensive team. I mean just one of the worst defensive teams we've seen in recent NBA history. You know I like veal. Sometimes he drives me nuts wall to with the way he plays in sort of a casual way. I think it leads to turn overs and wasted possessions over the years and he's not a great closer as we've seen over the years you know Baheen John both at the end of games trying to take big shots but I do. There's something about him him that I like first of all. I think he's really bright and thoughtful. You know I've seen logger interviews with him. He's developed into an elite NBA score. There's no no way to really debate that he sixth right now in the NBA In scoring He's having a career year obviously At Twenty Twenty eight point seven points per game what he's averaging right now You know she's got a field. Goal percentage rough- roughly forty six percent. You know nobody is defending this year. beals always had the capability of defending like wall. It's never been consistent There's something about him though. Oh that I've always sort of liked personally. I think he's one of these guys I don't know that I feel that way by John Wall but I think he's really competitive but I think he's also self aware I remember. They played Toronto in the postseason in that second year. They were in the playoffs with wall and beal first year they beat Chicago and then lost Indiana and then in the second season with Randy Wittman. They swept Toronto in the first round before losing to Atlanta in the Eastern conference semifinals in a series that they really should have won. But John got hurt if you recall and that was the team with Paul Pierce first year. They had to raise a second year. Pierce was sort of the third guy with wall and beal Nate Gore. Tot All of those guys on the team as well and They had one game one in Toronto. Oh and game to They went into Toronto and usually in game twos. When you steal a game on game one the home team is desperate? And you feel like like you've already achieved what you wanted to achieve and Toronto took a lead in that game and they started running their mouth a lot And got very physical and chippy with the wizards and Bill went on a run to basically Take a big lead at halftime. And I'll never forget at the interview and I went and looked this up. I couldn't find the sound but I found the quote at Chris Miller grabs him as there As as he's coming off the court at at the break at the end of the second quarter and Miller asked him something about you. Know the chippiness and they're trying to really get physical with you and beal had just you know answered with a big second quarter order. And the wizards had the halftime lead and he said quote they think that were some. They think that we're some punks. They think they can push us around. But we're not rolling and and he walked off the floor and he came back and they kicked. Toronto's asked in the second half and won the game by eleven going away swept him in Toronto in the first two games swept him in the series. And I remember thinking you know beal. Maybe he doesn't hit every last second. Shot that you you'd want but he's come bigger in playoff games than John. Wall has more often. You know there's something to him in. I still think sometimes he sloppy is a ball handler can be man I think that is free. Throw shooting percentage of always felt this about him In recent years should have been higher in this series. Finally shooting it at eighty five percent I think is mother helped him with that and being serious I had. I had Scott Brooks on the show once last year and I said bills free throw shooting. Stroke is too flat and he just laughed at me and he said you're you're perceptive. That's what his mother thinks to in. His mother was a very good player. And we've been listening to his mother GonNA listen to his mother and the ARC's gotten a little bit better this year. Little not not as flat as shot shooting eighty five percent from the free throw line this year you ninety percent plus in his last several games so beal is I was glad to hear that rather than just read the disrespect because I think the context context to it was a guy that was pissed. There was upset but wasn't making it all about him His agent tried to do that. His agent had the following unquote Mark Bartlestein is his agent quote. It's just wrong. I think the coaches have sent a horrible message. He could've could've made the choice to be a bandwagon jumper and just go on and join a higher level team and he would have been guaranteed in the All Star game. But he didn't want to do that. He wanted to be loyal to his organization and the coaches in the NBA are holding it against Brad. That he was loyal to his organization. Closed quote it's a stupid thing to say a first of all. It's not true okay. The coaches didn't vote Bradley. Beal didn't snub Bradley beal because beal wanted to be loyal oil to a bad team in an struggling organization right now. It's not why okay. The team is struggling the reason that he's not in his probably because of the team's record and it's in the team's terrible defensively and he hasn't been great defensively but it's not they didn't snub him because he chose to be loyal to the wizards at stupid. And the other thing the agent said is you know to to be a bandwagon jumper and go on and join a higher level team first first of all. It's a dig at the wizards justifiable. But it's also you know suggesting that players are super selfish and that the all star game means more to them you you know. He could have made the choice to be a bandwagon jumper so he could have gotten into the all star game but he didn't do that. You'll give shit about the all star game. Did you see just just as a as a secondary add onto NBA basketball. Did you see the format changed for the NBA. All that was really weird weird. What in God's name are they doing so the the NBA All Star format has a completely different Different format For this year they're changing the entire structure of the basketball game. Now they still have the two team captains and they're going to pick their teams games and that's fine. You know like that kind of thing in terms of you know dividing the sides up and you know if you wanted to go international versus us when those things don't bother me but listen to what they're doing for the All Star game this year which I couldn't care less about but I I don't know why they care so much First of all the the teams are going to compete to win each of the first three quarters. All of the quarters are going to start with a score of nothing to nothing so the first three quarters are going to be twelve minutes and they're going to be individual games three individual games all right and then at the start of the fourth quarter. Are you following that so far. That's pretty easy-to-follow. Yeah okay first. three-quarters nothing nothing at the beginning of each quarter the winner of each quarter. Just everybody knows gets to Gets a hundred thousand dollars To donate to a charity of their choice so you have three quarter winners. Three hundred thousand dollars gets donated to charity For the winners of those three. That three-quarters stupid nothing. Nothing at the beginning of the quarter like we really care about what the score is that. They're not playing that hard in the first three quarters of the game. But here's the best part of it at the start of the fourth quarter. The game clock will be turned off and a final target score will be set. The final target score will be will be determined by taking the leading teams total cumulative score through three quarters and adding twenty four points the twenty four representing the late Koby Bryant uniform number once the final target score is set the teams will play an untimely fourth quarter in the first team to reach the final target score will win the NBA All Star game and then they give even example because you know what they needed to give an example. It's pretty hard for most people to follow after you're playing. Nothing nothing to start the first three quarters and playing the first three quarters. This is an individual individual games a unto themselves. You'RE GONNA have a three quarter score. They're GONNA add it all up from the first three quarters and give not at the beginning of the fourth quarter and so t may is up one hundred ninety five if you add twenty four to team as score than their target is one hundred and twenty four at the bad twenty four to the team with ninety five points okay. See I'm even views hold on. So if the cumulative score of the first three quarters is one hundred ninety five the final target score would be set at one hundred twenty four points okay. So now. It's the first team to get one hundred twenty four all right so to win the NBA. All Star game the team that had one hundred needs to score twenty four and the team that ninety five needs score twenty nine i. They need to get their first. Oh my God just dumb. It's dumb but this is also interesting because I obviously the thing is for Kobe. But that's also variation of this thing called the L. Amending which someone had basically people were getting tired of college basketball. The last two minutes just being foul L.. Foul South right so this guy came up with it's pretty simple but the ending and basically with at the in in his ills. This guy is professor for all his name. Yes Nikki Lem okay the first stoppage after the four minute you you know after the under four timeout basically once they under four time this was supposedly for college basketball..
Bradley Beal plays like an all-star in Wizards' win. Too bad he was snubbed.
"Bradley Beal play like an all star even though he wasn't named one he just missed a triple double scoring a game high thirty four points along with nine assists and nine rebounds as the wizards with the Hornets one twenty one one oh seven fourteen of his points came from the foul line fifty one attends that was last three games when he couldn't get a call most of the season so why the change for coach Scott Brooks Jeez attack in in these getting contact and he's the same guys out of position so he's going through it and he's getting some of those calls pretty surprise you get those calls not even all star those guys indeed it was bill was an all star the last two years instead nine players will be making their debuts when the game is played in Chicago in

I think the biggest thing I learned is that you gotTa work on your craft every day. You know we all know that as you know as hoopers Experts we know that but to see a vet set in his own even remember year was sixteen seventeen th year still be the first guy in Alaska to leave ice and his body Take Care Eva's body just doing everything that he was supposed to do at that age instill planning a high level for us. They're really hit home with me. You know I it really believe me snap out of it and realize like be you can really play for a long time. You can get multiple contracts if that's what you desire and just being around him for year was was amazing. You know true leadership skills like I thought pause a pure asshole like I thought he he hated everybody. I thought he didn't like people thought he wasn't a people person at all But it was the complete opposite. He writes for his team like his teammate years boy like that's just how he is. But if you're on opposite team you know he he not talking to you. He not messing with you. I've learned that and color develop that same mental. You know so. It's in a way in. He kind of instilled a lot of that in John. And I and our leadership in how we how we control things. We talked to teammates. How we try to gather the troops and get things going And how to talk to each other John and how how we approach it how we deal with each other. He helped us out a lot with that as well. So he's he's a he's he's a true legend he's a true he's a true pro. He's a pro's pro. You give me an example of that with Paul when you think back of something he said or did were you went. Wow I've never heard someone say that in a locker room or do a bunch of things jump out It's hard to pinpoint one thing because he's NBA champion. Dan You know so whenever he spoke we all shut up and listen you know because he knows what it takes to get there. He's a hall of Famer. He's a fifty time all-star like he knows would.

Need Lebron Lakers great and I'm saying right now he does if you want to expand the discussion and say who needs who more I think you can Gitte argue that Lebron needs ad more as a laker right but then step back even from that lebrons place in history of security is one of the greatest players ever he's like Nipping Michael Jordan's heels it doesn't get better than that unless you're Jordan himself to his legacy is secure much like will chamberlain before he came to the Lakers now he did wind up winning chip but even had wilt not one in La he's still one of the greatest players ever on the other hand consider this Stephen ad as a package best power forward of all time but he's never gonNA pass Tim Duncan if he's sitting on zero chips Tim Duncan's five and by the way could overlap with another great lake or in other words gronk could be the first half of his career he could attract another superstar for the second half and keep winning chips if he gets at that level far far far be for me to say this to you but you are talking too much and you are bypassing the headline the big headline here you that's something that's very very important to discuss Lebron James Legacy secure not so fast yes your three top chance CBS in non NBA finals appearances but if what happened if what Max has predicted happens that might tarnish legacy if linnet rose up in La and wreaks havoc and bus Lebron's but in the process of going another championship and third NBA Finals Mvp. Like you stated I'm sorry Lebron legacy you just brought a compromise not no I'm not predicting that I'm predicting the Bra will win the MVP he will win the title the will wreck shop and remind more minutes than anyone who ever lived who still an elite player including Kareem abdul-jabbar and it's toward the end of Kareem's career some inferior center got the better him because he was ancient that did not count against Kareem and Lebron James at this age having played this many minutes this many titles the whole thing Olympics everything if the best player in the game coli Leonard gets the better of him in the Western Conference finals the Bronze Age that does not tarnish his uh snow his age and he looks that way at the beginning but if he's ball and then he's an MVP and he's wreaking havoc all these along but they're runs into walk gets his Baja waxed we've got a problem nice these are the three out in La all next week the battle of La Supremacy Tuesday. It's going to be Lakers clippers I take will cover all of it will much more into this but I have a little news for you we're talking about Bradley beal yesterday with one of the top free agents for next year off the Arquette we had a bomb Adrian Rescue tweeting this morning that Bradley beal is agreeing to a two year seventy two million dollars extension with the serves stephen a your thoughts on the bill extension Michael Goal assists I'm incredibly sad for him he deserves every penny he's a star he's under appreciated he's one of the best guys you'll ever meet in the league and I'm wishing Tommy Sheppard nothing but the best of luck but he is literally all the nation's capital has when it comes to basketball John Wall hurt not expected to be available this year Bradley beal is going to be a part of an absolutely awful roster my condolences to him and all those wizards fans that are coming to watch them this year I wish them luck by the way my feel jemaine stephen a it was like what are you doing wasting your prime on the other hand you have to tip your Cap Number One I said Zion shouldn't play equipment he said no I wanna play good you do what's in your heart right Damian Lillard I'm not trying to join anyone I wanNA stay right here in Portland to bring it and if you never wins a championship that doesn't count against him for staying and trying even though they don't have the squad that some of the other teams do and here Bradley Beal's doing the same thing this shows a lot of heart whether or not it's wise by how you are if someone else thinks is one thing but if it makes him happy I tip my cap he's trying to get it done in DC instead of turning tail and running somewhere else in joining a team hats off to him I just feel sorry for him because they're gone stink they're going to be at least they got the nationals full showtime mahomes chiefs looked to end a two-game skid at mile high unfortunately mahomes is still hobbled with ankle not to mention the many other injured chiefs Kansas City favored by three we know Denver is a difficult place to play Max tough one for the chiefs will very tough I I'm tempted AAC Denver in an upset I can't pick against mahomes and the chiefs with tyreek Hill back but it's going to be a very tough game vic Fangio's defense has come around have to quality wins in their last two games I mean you could say you can question the titans and but but those teams have at different times in the not too distant past look like decent enough teams and the Broncos have beaten them and the and the main thing is they're not giving any points now you take the flipside Steven A. The chiefs can't stop the run like the broncos are running wild but they're solid in the run game against the team that can't stop the run and how you know if there's a blueprint for the chiefs what is it ball control so defense solid running game against hobbled quarterback does have his top receiver now but can't stop the run a bad combination particularly with Denver home which is hard place to play just in terms of the climate and what that does the guys so I take Denver because I just believe in Mahomes at crunch time but this is a very tough game you know what I can understand your point with that because Tom Opposition in their favor about three victories came within the touchdown of each other we get all of that here's the flipside you got a quarterback and Joe flacco who can't move he's turning the ball over seven times six games I believe then you've got the situation on the defensive side of the ball where this starting sixth string quarterback for act prone to turning the ball over at least at this particular junction the season both scenarios work in favor of Patrick mahomes having the ball I don't know if he should be playing an three minute Philip Lindsey running the football if you're denver that's the only shot you have of making this game interesting outside of that I don't see it I don't this is going to be able at all even though it's going to be.

"You're on a Thursday and we got tunnel yet you last night games watching the acres watching the Knicks and the hawks but we got us we got some breaking news this morning Scout Bradley beal signs a contract extension with the wizards most people thought he was probably the best asset on the mark all sorts of questions like who do you think's GonNa win the title who's a player you'd start your franchise with best defensive player in the league all like dozens and dozens of questions that will get into getting into some of the most interesting ones a best movie the offseason us we'll do that NBA champion Koran Butler and one of our regulars is gonNA stop by for a full hour and about thirty minutes here so busy morning scrabble what's going on I did yeah so I went back and watched or listened to a yesterday show I do have to say I got to do a better job not getting attract because I think you're right you look at the rundown and your rundowns excellent there's a lotta great topics but it seems like we this is what happens we start topic is circles back to Lebron it circles back to the warriors it circles back to James Harden and the rockets every topic it's like Kevin Bacon in sixth degree of separation and all has to do with Lebron right so I agree with you because there's contract extensions were getting to that deadline right now I'm GonNa do my best which I'm I'm going to ultimately put it on you but I'm going to do my best to stay on track because I do want to get to I looked at your rundown it's great and I do want to get to all these things so if I go on a tangent Cerruti please correct me I'll say we got to move on well you know what I want bring back maybe we'll bring back our rapid fire like small topic segment thing today maybe we'll do that if we don't get to everything we want to get to in enough time we've got two hours you'll be hanging out with you for the next two hours Iran Scallon pals so that's what we'll do we don't get to everything we'll make sure do rapid-fire thing at the end of the show but like I said a lot to get to and maybe the biggest thing today and it was kind of a surprise was Bradley Beal Wizards Guard All Star a guy that a lot of people thought was on the block or was wondering hey this is in a full rebuild like John Wall's going to miss the entire year with the Achilles injury they are not going to games just with Bradley Beal by himself maybe he's on the market the heat or potentially interested I know the Lakers were interested even maybe your celtics were brought up as a team there was a ton of teams roundly that we're going to be interested in signing and trading for Bradley beal he ends up signing a two year Max extension it's really a one plus a one player option in it enables him to essentially get to his tenth year of Mba Service and sign that thirty five percent supermax contract after ten years of service if he if he tease out the length of the contract with the wizards so surprising news this morning scalp but I do think this actually makes a lot of sense for both sides because he's going to continue to up great numbers there as as this year really the only clear option in Washington on which team that is sort of in a weird transition mode as I said with John Wall being out he gets his money he gets the ten years he gets to Kinda he gets the potentially make the rich are signed the richest contract in a couple of years in NBA history he really wants to but it also is kind of a win for the wizards to you know there he he can't be traded for a full calendar year so he's their guy at least for this season now there'll be probably rumors in the off season about whether he's going to be traded somewhere else but at least for this season they have got to sort of build their team around and I honestly think sort of as to trade value because he's going to be under contract for a little bit longer than he was before so first impression scout what do you think of the the extension for Bradley Beal yes so right off the jump I know that he is excited about these young guys and that's and that's cool because looking at real hot you're more our guy admirals appealed and he's looking at this is a new era for the wizards like they've been you know they were right there you remember game six against Boston Kelly Olympic when offered thirty three and eight with the Eastern conference finals and they were they were right there they they didn't get it and they've been on the steady decline since then but so what everything we've heard is he's really excited about these young guys so it's like the best of both worlds and you nailed it right he could still be eligible for supermax still be eligible for ten years supermax which the money ridiculous at that point and it gives them flexibility if he goes to the wizards like a couple of years down the road of some of these young guys don't pan out then he's like listen I really WanNa be on a contender so I think it's it's an excellent deal for both like was he give up a little bit of financial security listen when you got sixty seventy million bank already financial security is era for sure but it's not like the end all be all right the eventually Bradley beal wants to be on championship type of team no maybe these guys get there he does it with their new ownership depends on what they do with these young guy it'd be really interesting to see do these guys develop into championship caliber players or you get to the point where because they're young they're on rookie scale deals that you can move on and get a unbelievable for US free agent that would WANNA play with Bradley beal and in Washington which is a cool city and never really you never really hear the buzz about DC as a destination but things change really quickly no one ever talked about the warriors being a destination and then Kevin Durant went there and they develop through the draft and and had their one franchise guy date they sort of built around so I think it's a win win for both I agree with you I think that Bradley beal is in a really good position moving forward with our Guy Admiral Scofield this morning wizards rookie Justin about like you know they can come on today or tomorrow he's got some shoot arounds to trying to work out a time but he did say you know that that that Brad is excited about this team he's excited sort of see where they go and I think a lot of people were expecting anything from them in the Eastern conference but you know the the issue for the wizards ultimately is going to be this John Wall situation right because he still under contract for another four years one hundred and seventy one million dollars it could potentially be one of the worst deals in the league I mean they're obviously paying him is he signed that supermax deal which looked like a good thing at the time it was those things but hey let's keep star players in smaller ish mark is not the DC is a small market but it's not a major market in the NBA so are you keep your star there but he's been pretty disappoint earning since it's a sign that contract obviously getting injured and they owe him a ton of money and it's sort of hands hamstrings them going forward so be interesting it doesn't expect it doesn't seem like wall is GonNa play it all this year that's bond with an Achilles injury it's one of those things you know you just gotTa give it time and you wonder if they can get back to where they were they were as you mentioned scout because they weren't interesting team in in copper they had one of the best backcourts in the NBA The one of the most exciting athletic backwards in the NBA and you know but the the problem is they still like for example pull bobby marks tweeted out this out this morning he's a former assistant. GM with the nets works for ESPN now the most expensive duos in the NBA for the next two years scale number one is James Harden and Russell Westbrook at eight and a half million dollars number two is steph curry and Klay Thompson eighty four million dollars in both those are probably well worth the deal and number three comes in and John Wall and Bradley beal at seventy nine million dollars they are the third most expensive pair in the entire league over the next two years that's a lot of money and as I said it's a four year contract for a lot any tied up in in in a question mark there so I think well I think this is. There's hope there for for wizards fans that this can get better because it's been bad it is probably going to be bad this year it was bad last year there's hope there that maybe you get wall back and this thing and it can sort of get the ship right again but it's also one of those things where if wall doesn't come back and look good and you know live up to that mass contract they can be in some real trouble financially over over the course of the next few years and may ultimately have to trade Bradley beal just sort of try to rebuild this situation sure I mean that is definitely on the table for them and I've always talked about if you're going to get brad beal you're probably going to have to give up not a lottery pick but a first round pick and take on the John Wall contract or if you really want to now Cerruti help me out with this one from the technical side Kim Brad the bill be traded before the NBA draft or is it really one calendar year from today where he signed the extension I think it's table so if you really interesting like let's say the wizards aren't very good and this is a lot of times how people do the reveal already know that reactor more it's going to be a pretty good player into certain extent we don't know how good but he's he's he's NBA player for sure so let's say the wizards are sitting there with the fifth pick in the draft next year or the seven pick in the draft I wonder at that point do you move Brad beal and trying to get a top three pick top four pick right so now you have very hot Maura that's one you have your pick this you coming up to be like let's say seven right and then you try to get into the top four so those will be like your three rookie scale contract to rebuild but in the meantime you still have him and it's probably easier contract trade when he has.

"So what does go ahead and say it for everyone starkly black college and university, and I chose to be here. I really wanted to be here when I was a student at Yale school of art in photography MFA program. I was the only black person in my graduating in my class, and it's one of the top photography programs in the nation in the world possibly and so thinking about networking opportunities. Going to directly black kosh gave me the opportunity to leverage my network from us student. So I was teaching classes here right in into gallery. And my students are coming to me not to talk about the academics. So to talk about their classes, they to talk about their interviews. Many of them were seniors thinking about the. Careers, and when they wanted to move forward, and they say, professor Beal I've been using my name for all of my applications on my resume in a haven't received any call backs and my name is soup. My name is aleisha or you know, I went to this interview as someone asked me how many children I have. Or I went to this interview. And someone asked me to normally wear my hair that way, or I love it your hair so beautiful. Where'd you buy that? Are I went to an interview and someone say, you know, you speak? So well, I mean, can you tell me a little bit more about your education because I'm just I'm just so surprised, and I realized that my students were experiencing the same things that my mother experienced that my grandmother experienced the I experience going to this kind of idea of corporate space so world that was never designed for people of color or women at his foundation, grin parks famously. When he came to Washington to work for the farm security administration went to the the director of the program whose name escapes me at the moment. And he told him. Okay. I want you to go out have a one particular restaurant want you to go to movie theater so on and so forth. And Gordon was like, oh, okay. So he went out trying to get a meal, and he couldn't be seated he had accepted me through the back door when he went to the movie theater. He was told that he would have to go through another entry way, you know, what you would expect during that time and he came back, and he was angry about that. You know, the director told them, well, you know, how how basically challenged him in terms of how you document that. How are you going to use the camera to express your anger and your disappointment at and that's where he made that famous portrait of that of an African American woman with with a broom in front of the American Merican flag? And I thought about that, you know, that that story when I was looking at your your word because that was what a lot of people would say was ages ago, you know, that that whole disparity of being treated differently and your images. Really sort of reflect the fact that. As much as things have changed and improve their some certain attitudes that persist, but the portrait's that you're making are kind of in line with that whole idea being able to express your disappointment and your students disappointment in the form of a portrait. But specifically tell me about the toys, defer graph, especially using that particular backdrop in in their person's home spaces opposed to just maybe using a simple seamless and. Definitely I guess I'll begin when it just the backdrop the image, the backdrop culture is very prevalent in the south is something that you see a lot..

"I am EBA judges would periodically voice. Our pleasure only saw an image that we especially liked, but this contest was not judged on the quality of a single photograph. Instead the award went with a attacker who had an idea for project related to the aftermath of war and conflict. So for us. We had to believe that this person was not only a good photographer that they were capable of telling the story that they pitched in their proposal. And as I looked at each. Each portfolio in proposal. I really appreciated the challenge it is for photographer to successfully express an idea in photographs. It's ideas that inspire India Beal's photographs her examinations of race sex and body image are integral parts of her work.
