Likely not starring in a movie or getting an Emmy nomination. I'm sure. But mechanic grace has done that and so much more, including her role in the theatrical release of ghostbusters afterlife, and that Emmy nomination was for her work in The Handmaid's Tale. I didn't know any of that, or even her age when I first heard the song haunted house, so I asked McKenna to tell us a little bit about her debut single. Hi, this is Mckenna Grace and I wrote this song haunted house on my living room floor with my friend during a really rough time in my life. It kind of sounds like a breakup song, but it's almost like a love song of the memories that never really leave us. Or the ghosts that never leave a haunted house, you know, my metaphor. I really hope that my music can help people get through hard times, just like music is really helped me get through tough times. And this song is also so important to me since it's my first single literally the first time I've ever released any music at all. I've been playing music and ukulele and writing a little bit since I was 11, but over the past year or two, I've been riding so much any chance that I get. And I have so much more to come with so many releases coming in the new year. And it's really, really so exciting to share my very first song with the world. I don't know. Thank you so much bob and NPR.
Fresh update on "beach house" discussed on The Chalene Show
"Released the episode on the questions answering your uncomfortable and awkward questions about sex and who write right, some of you really needed that, right? I know. And some of you were like, please stop saying that word. I didn't realize that, okay, I'm gonna say the word one time and then we'll never say it again. That's just saying the word squirting is kind of like saying the word moist for some people. It's one of those words that people are just like, like don't say it. So there's that. And then there was I would say like the most the topics that got the biggest play inside the pod squad were the topics of the S word that I just said. And then also anal sucks. I don't know why I'm whispering that like hello. It's all adults in my house. But I guess because I'm just a little squirrelly about it. And what was so cool is Kelly casperson that doctor Kelly casperson actually jumped in the pod squad and she was answering questions and she was encouraging everybody. You know the thing that works so well with Kelly and doctor Kelly. And I'm going to definitely have her on as a regular 'cause I think she just so vibes with our community. Is she just so cool about it? Like she's just like, yeah, whatever. Like, here's all the words. And she just, like, spit them all out, and she's like, yeah, it's our body's chill out, guys. Not that big of a deal. And I think that makes it so much easier to talk about. I love her. I just love her. So I'm gonna have her definitely on the show, again, the future. I know you guys really enjoyed her too. And then Wednesday's episode, I recorded because as I mentioned, I recorded an episode on Wednesday he didn't hear it. For anyone who's feeling like just having one of those days or one of those weeks where you're like, I can't take it. There's so much going on. I just want to have a mental breakdown, it's all too much and I'm freaking out, what do I do? Like I'm really overwhelmed, whether it's an anxiety attack, or it's just like one of those weeks where you're like, I just can't do all of this. And I recorded that because I had two people who I really care about who shall remain nameless who were going through that literally that day that and I recorded that on Tuesday. And it was really, I think a great podcast. A lot of people of you guys said, I needed that. Thank you so much. And then lo and behold, Thursday, I have one of those days. Exactly what I described. One of those days where you're like, okay, I've got everything scheduled and I'm pretty maxed out, but I can handle this. This is gonna be an exciting day. It's gonna be hard not a lot of rest. That's okay. I can power through this. You got this. Let's go. And just text after text after text after email after slack message after email just like kept coming and coming and coming. And we need this and we need that and you need to review this and you need to create this and you need to record that and we need this reviewed and you need to outline this and you need to produce this and we need a photo of that and we need a video of you doing this and we need this person needs approval on that. It was just nonstop and we need ten covers of that. And it was all these things I wanted to do. And I'm like, holy cow, I'm feeling exactly exactly what I described in my podcast on Wednesday. And I was just like, literally, like, about to lose it. And, you know, I don't know if I didn't mention this in that podcast, but it was an emotion that came up for me when I was feeling this on Wednesday is it made me just really angry at everybody who wanted something from me, even though it wasn't their fault. Like I wanted to call each and every person go like, do you know that this email you've asked me to review? Do you know I have to do blah blah blah blah? Well, it's not their fault. You know? And then I had a couple of meeting schedule. And I have this rule that I'm going to go in the other room so Bret can add his commentary. I have this rule or we have this rule that for all meetings we need an agenda. And that has a lot to do with my ADHD, but it also has a lot to do with just respecting people's time. I hate surprises. It's really important for me to be prepared. Even if someone's going to be interviewing me on their podcast, and it's someone who I don't know, before I get on that podcast, I need to know everything about them. I just think that's a respect thing. Partly and also it makes me feel more prepared and confident and I just always want to know what's coming. I hate surprises. So even if I'm going to do a podcast, I'll have my assistant just do all the research on who is this person and what are they all the episodes and I'll listen to a few of their episodes and I'll follow them on Instagram and I just think that's a respectful right thing to do. Anyways, when I have a meeting and walking down the hallway now, so oh, by the way, so I have to get ready in one of the extra bedrooms in our House because our master bedroom is being is it okay if I turn the fan off? So we sleep with a fan on because hashtag white noise. Even though we can actually hear the ocean too. But we're getting our master bedroom. Sorry, bathroom, remodeled, right? Yeah, it's a bathroom. Anyways, we're getting the master bathroom remodeled and so that means we had to move out of the closet now getting dressed. We had to move out of our master bathroom and then we have, let's see. So there's our master room and then there's one two three other bedrooms at the beach house. And so, and they're pretty actually not pretty small. They're very small bathrooms. Like there's no way two people could be in either of these bathrooms at the same time. So I said, we really can't both move into one bathroom. So you take one bathroom, I'll take the other bathroom. So we each have our own bathroom. So, and that's all well and good except when you are a perimenopausal woman who apparently has to pee every single night. So in the middle of the night, I end up having to like wake up trip over 19 pillows stumble my way blind out of our room down the hallway into another and it really wakes me up and I really hate it. I keep trying to limit my water intake in the later parts of the day. I think I did pretty good today. So I think I should be okay tonight. But even on the nights where I days where I really try to limit my water intake, I still feel like I get up in the bathroom in the middle of the night, so anyways, sorry, TMI. Why did I tell you that story? Oh, 'cause I was telling you where I was going. Anyway, so what did I do? Okay, so I had these I had two meetings scheduled with staff on Wednesday again and the meetings are approaching and I'm like, hey, I to my system, I'm like, hey, I don't see the agenda for either of these meetings, and she's like, yeah, here it is. And I'm like, no, that's from other meetings. That's not from the two new team members who I'm supposed to be meeting with today. And she's like, yeah, you know, I'm sorry, don't see agendas for that. And I'm like, and I felt bad doing this. I'm gonna walk you through this for a second. So I said, and it was ten minutes before the meetings..

The Washington Post Reporter Natalie Compton on spring break in Florida
"Of course, Spring break. It's going crazy in Florida. People are just you know, I totally get it. It's been an awful awful year on now We're thinking vaccines and summer or warm weather at least an outdoors. Let's get out and And party it up. What are the concerns right now? About how much spring break in is going on? Yeah, You're right in all of that, which has been, uh, you know, it's difficult because I think everyone's really excited about seeing vaccines going really well, But right now only 27% of Americans have gotten about one shot, so we're still nowhere near where we need to be in terms of like traveling safely again. And, as they said in the news earlier The CDC is very worried about spring break and spring break travel right now. So we are not in a place where people could be partying in Florida partying in Mexico, but we know that that's happening. There's like arrests happening all the time. In Miami, people being pepper sprayed. It's chaos, so I don't want people to think that you have to be trapped in your house this spring break taking a road trip to the beach House could be a safer alternative. But right now we really
Where to Find a Truly Authentic Disney Beach Vacation
"We're going to be talking all about disney's beach resorts and we're talking about disney's i guess. Would we call them their real beach resorts all around the world. Not their photo. Beach resorts at their feet resort feats resorts like that fo- beach and we're talking about places like what disney's beach club resort would be there features are and just a little bit of background. I remember when we talked about the wave pool that was in the lagoon and outside of the polynesian and dick nunez the emad surfer who turned imagine near and when they first opened disneyworld he thought disneyworld had to compete with beach resorts in florida. And that no one would wanna go there because there wasn't a beach so they created beaches and they tried to do surfing. Didn't really work but then later. They added the pool at typhoon lagoon yet and of course they added the beach club resort and tom along they deign has a real sand bottom. But it still wasn't real and when we say beach resorts i guess. Let's put it this way in front beach resorts well all right. Well we'll get into that. So there are you may or may not know three count them three actual disney beach resorts not associated with any theme parks. And we've talked about one on this podcast in the past if you're planning summer vacation hopefully we're all going traveling this summer and you want to go to a beach resort and you love disney. We're gonna give you three amazing options for disney beach resorts and i'm putting them in my personal preference order. You're probably going to agree with my order. I would imagine start with number one. Most important will go first. Okay and that for me is alani lenny desire lani resort and spa in co alina. A wa who hawaii i do you say that. So he no or lena that. So co lena is the little town. This is a true beachfront resort in hawaii. In this episode we're going to focus on the beaches because we're talking about beach vacations. We will do more in depth on the resorts. We've already done one about our number two which will get to momentarily. But if you there's nothing really. That beats a hawaiian beach. What do you think jonah blank blank. So the beach call. Lena is you fly. Into on her lulu. And it's a really short drive right. We definitely rent a car. And i'll get into why that resort alani is right on the ocean in this really upscale town called co alina and it's a little bit of an interesting beach there because it it's very sheltered. They have storm break. So it's not very good for surfing but if you're one of those people that likes to think the ocean is a pool that has no currents at all. This might be for you. Yeah it's of funny. Because i learned somewhere along the way in my travel life that most of resort hotels on islands even barbados in that they build the hotels on the quiet side of the island. But we love waves right. We like big waves. So we'd always have to do. When i was surfing and barbados. You gotta go down to the super bowl's on the other side of the island but all the big resorts are on the calm side. If there is one and co lena's the whole point is sort of like that but actually there's four lagoons dan this strip of land in their man made so they did like you said they built breakwaters and they're sort of like a c shape. It's almost like a donut with a little cutout which is open to the ocean right. So there's water comes in. They are open to the ocean but yes. They're very calm. They're pretty large. I don't know. I don't even know how big they are. But they're big. It's not like people. Yeah and you can rent boats and sailboats. And a few things in there it can take a lot of people and then there's other upscale resorts at the neighbors of alani and there's four of these lagoons and you can walk along the waterfront the rest of the waterfront there sorta rocky so that's probably why was undeveloped in the past and then disney came along and somebody figured out. Hey we can make nice beaches here if we put these little lagoons. So it is a true. Hawaiian beachfront resort. You can swim in the beautiful pacific ocean. It faces the sunset which is really nice. But if you're going to hawaii and if you're going to alani in particular there are many other as ing beaches on oahu. Don't always need to go in a volcano. Guess you don't need to go. What is oh. Amelia wrote a song as a kid going to hawaii in volcano which would be the big island of hawaii not on oahu. But if you're going to oahu and you're going to alani it's a beautiful beach Franck resort will get into all the rest of it and another episode because es cell using storm along. Bay is a good waterpark. Alani puts it to shame. But we're going to save that for a future episode. Pure here for storm. Along is now an official disney waterpark. A resort it sort of water park for among resorts compared to any other pool. That is you know typically pool with a slide. It's pretty much a waterpark. There's a lazy river there. there's a beat anyway. we're not talking about disney's beach club resort. We're talking about disney's true beach resorts on the ocean. But if you go to alanine. You're in hawaii definitely rent a car because there are some amazing beaches around the island and we have three favorites. Yes when we were there and the one one is why of course the north shore's famous the banzai pipeline. Wia me a base of drive to that beach. Any of these things are an hour to ride real easy day trips to go to the beaches and then i call the surfing beach surfing. Beach is kylie loa beach. If that's how you pronounce it pronouncing these the lower something. It's just back on the way back towards honolulu about halfway. There may be and yet. It's it's a real true. Hawaiian bichon little campground part. If you wanna take surfing lessons there it's great. There's great lessons there. The waves are consistent. It's a true open. Beat quite amazing. Little kids surfing. Yeah amazing little kids. Maybe we'll post a picture of usurping on that beach as part of this social media for this episode so that that one's really close great spot to go surfing and then across on the other side of the island is kahlua which is a really cool little town right on the water and they have a really neat beach there too so chi loo beach the north shore and kellyanne lower beach. I think that's how you say it. I may be saying wrong but you'll find it. Those are three awesome beaches. Plus you do have a beach rate at your resort. A nice quiet beach like amelia said. The water's warm there. It's very calm tons of beach chairs. it's it's fairly large semi circle shape. Check it out on a google earth map and you'll see so that is out of ninety eleni hawaii and then another one we talked about. They will be disney's vero beach resort. And i don't know this might actually be my favorite beach if we're talking strictly about the beach hotel. I'd have to say personally. I prefer the air disney's vero beach resort beach than the alani beach lie because it is truly wide open to the ocean. You can't even serve there either. You can on windy days. We have seen people surfing there. You can definitely bougie board there quite a bit. But i'm going to get in just like we did with lonnie there's other beaches nearby but at vero beach resort the beach is you know you're just on the coast there on vero beach so it extends hundreds of miles but there's rarely it's rarely what i would call crowded. No sometimes in the mornings we go on beach walks and watch the sunrise and get bitten by no see'ums. We talked about that in our verbiage. Episode. this is what. I was alluding to earlier if you want to know. More about. The resort in the area listened to that episode a few back but the beach itself. We didn't really focus on and there is a beach house. there where you can rent watercraft sailboats. But you can bring your own boogie boards and you surf and you're within range of bringing a surfboard. It's your subject to the winds really. It's wind driven surf there. It's not nash. Natural surf break but the beach itself has filled with tons of shells and highlight to look for shark teeth. It's weather dependent so days. It's actually quite calm other days. It's very rough. So i liked that personally. I like those open
Leonardo DiCaprio's Malibu beach house was once decorated with 'Titanic' towels and a poster, celebrity designer says
"All right. Let's move onto leonardo dicaprio now. Is he the king of the world. But maybe not the king of decor yeah okay celebrity interior designer making weaver. Who once worked for. Leo told the behind the velvet rope. Podcast that she stayed at his beach house years ago. It was decorated with titanic theme. She said the roads towels posters all those some of them But somehow some way. This was still very tasteful Cheesy awesome we. What if i made that much money from a show. Looking Back at Your Year in Animal Crossing: New Horizon
"On march twentieth the very day of new york's lockdown order nintendo released a game called animal crossing new horizons. Here's simon parkin who writes by gaming and technology for the new yorker so animal crossing. New horizons came out pretty much just as the world was going into. Lockdown is sort of like a digital. Dole's house i suppose but but not as tragic as that sounds maybe for forty year old bad to be playing. Basically you you move on city to an island which is so baron a bit of a wasteland you essentially forage clicked would rox things like that and slowly build up your island house by house and there's an added incentive as well to to do this because you can invite friends from around the world when she ireland and then give them a tool and obviously when you get to your your house you want to come in and fraud to be lovely and also you know. I guess if we're honest to be slightly better than their islands they'd be working on and so for a few weeks. It just was the thing that obsessed everyone on the incident. Just that everyone you know. We rule sort of showing off photographs or stills of our island house coming along and yeah it was just a lovely moment. I suppose when when it was difficult to get outside it was a game that allowed us to sort of frolic around in the countryside and sniff flowers without that being controversial. This is my island. It is called will town okay. Let me take you up here. So this is over here. On the on the left we could a large area of ground. Fenced-in this is my wife's industrialized throws growing outfit. You buy seeds for different varieties of flowers and in by Sowing seeds. You can in time germinate anew color and that's something that she's been another time shoe this popular vegas not stuff. The game was invented by a nintendo. Employees could cut suge a gucci Who found it was just spending his time at the office and not getting to see his children as much as he wanted so he sort of made this game as a way for them to work on a project together and then that way to connect. And i think that's That's been true for for the park in household as well. It was nice to be playing a game together sort of as a family that we were all involved in old contributing to that felt good and certainly animal crossing has enough scope to accommodate all kinds of different interests and different player types. And for me the thing that an it drives my family nuts is i got whatever the gene is that turns people into collectors and completions as always you spend a lot of my time fishing at different times of the day trying to find that elusive fish. That you're going to fill that space and you know i know for my daughter. She plays it in quite different ways as she is definitely more into the social aspect of interacting with the different animals on the island and she spent a lot of time trying to convince the animals. She didn't like to move out the way he do. This is just sort of being mean to them. Shown them and so sometimes it'd be playing the game. Would it would look like. I was running to go and have a conversation one of the animals and she would just scream at me. Don't know whatever you do do not talk to the aibo. Because because i want him out. I suppose yeah she just wanted to nurture the the perfect village and have it so and that's really what. The game encourages her house. We should go see that. This is how she's got a beach house which she picked out. And if you come down here just to the sort of sandy area in front of her from the arranged like a lotta different teddy bears and pandas having a picnic. It looks like they're eating sushi. Which seems unlikely. But i mean this is the game all about dioramas and this is the diorama that she's chosen to make that. I think i may have thrown into teddy bear to help her out. I wonder whether it was so special this year. Just the timing with the lockdown. That i wonder if it will ever be the same again for you know. Food thought generation. Who has now played animal crossing when the whole world it felt like was playing animal crossing You know they will be animal crossings again in the future. I don't know if it will ever be quite like it. Was this year. let's come into the hang on. We're gonna go up here. Sorry we're gonna crossover and Yeah his just a. We go out to a sleeping bag a little campfire and a telescope on the rocks on the northeast and most point of the on. I don't know just a little idea. That as i guess to extend the universe. There's there's more out there.
Hubie Halloween and 25 Horror Movies Classics
"See. CR. Thank you for being here with me today I appreciate you man, of course, man this is this is our favorite time of year in a Lotta ways. Yeah. I, think last year we had a conversation like this to write maybe around the release of mid Samara about what what's going on with horror movies. What are horror movies? Now the world has gotten certainly more horrifying in the last twelve months. We had a conversation like this, but before we get into you. Know Lists and the Adam Sandler movie. I kinda wanted to take your temperature on where you think this genre is at right now. Well, I don't know that we can say for sure because I'm not sure what her movies were not getting, right? I don't know what movies maybe delayed release that didn't get the festival bump that they needed from south by or or any of the summer festivals that might have happened So it's hard to say but I I would say that. I find my appetite for her pretty much the same as it was any other year. I don't necessarily find as festive outside I. Don't know the for one thing in Los Angeles. It's ninety degree. So doesn't really feel like Halloween but for another I, just you know everybody's inside. So I don't think the decorations of really started to go up yet I. Don't know that I don't really spend a lot of time in the Candy Aisle at my age you know what I mean what do you think? Well, I know you're costume guy. No you'd like to dress up just on any. Oh Wednesday. So this must be strange for you to not be able to dress up as a giant clown and run the streets. Pharaoh that's me. Yeah I I agree I think it's a little bit strange to not feel the Halloween and the Halloween season but I don't necessarily associate horror just with Halloween. It's definitely a twelve month a year John Reform me and it's this month a year. History to Halloween is when we are allowed to watch nothing but her for like a month and not seemed like we should be committed. Yes. I appreciate my wife creating a dispensation for me to be able to watch some of the most vile things imaginable on film. I several consecutive days on quite a run right now catching up on stuff seeing stuff for the first time. A lot of it is very gross or very disturbing and you're right. There's like we psychologically grant ourselves the right to do this at this period, which is pretty pretty weird. Come on honey. It's early. October. Let's watch. Torn to pieces. Yeah anyhow. What about from the from the year so far in terms of the movies that have been released have there been any that you actually liked from the Shawna Yeah I've seen a couple of things on demand that I thought were pretty cool. Some of them were like late nineteen things that finally got released this year I think that you and I. were. Really looking forward to seeing a bunch of stuff in Texas at. South by which was the OH maybe we'll go to Austin rate like right as quarantine was starting to become really apparent as the magnitude of the situation was dawning on us. So I I really don't know if you've seen anything in twenty twenty that you think is like really stellar. You know. I wanted to ask from hosts. Really Right. Y-. Right. So I think that that's I think that's where we should take this conversation which is a couple years ago. I. Did this Horror Oscars Gimmick on the site where I picked my favorite. What I thought was the best horror movie of every year since Nineteen, seventy, nine and I like the idea of continuing to hand out that award every year and so looking at kind of what would be the five contenders from each year but as you say Most of the movies of that are sort of noisy studio movies have been pushed back candyman for example, Nia Costa's remake reimagining of that classic is not coming out now until next year that's a bummer i. a lot of people were looking forward to it. I was looking forward to it. We got a few things. You know we got we got the invisible man we got relic There have been a couple of movies on shudder shudder originals, one of which I'll talk about later in the show. But like blood quantum, which I talked about on the show Z, the Beach House that I think are all worth recommending but I wouldn't say are on the order of. Hereditary or or something like that. You know that we haven't had a movie like that. That feels like it's a little bit of a moment. A little bit of a movement announces a new filmmaker in a loud and noisy way I. Don't know you know. Host is really interesting. I think the last time the show is just you and I talked about we talked about host and it kind of feels like it has has the belt for horror movies in twenty twenty if only by circumstance. Yeah I think you mentioned all those other like invisible man etc I would the lodge in there I would throw the rental and they're like. They were really there is some pretty solid doubles to left, but the host was the one where I was just like a watch it again I'm going to recommend it's all my friends I'm going to try and get people who don't ordinarily watch horror movies to check it out, and especially if we're talking about twenty twenty horror movies, it is a movie that only have been made this year. Do you think that that's a movie that's going to stand the test of time or only resonating with people because we're all looking at screens all day. No I think it will I think it's going to be a good time capsule movie for sure. But I think that there are some things that it does and you talked about this with Alex Ross Perry, which was an amazing conversation. If people haven't checked it out and I, think his some of the stuff he said towards the end of your conversation will influence what we're about to talk about today. But I think that you guys talked a little bit about the technology and the the storytelling that it employs and how it seems to be like a step for like an evolution in what could we do with? The collective psychology of what's going on with people and that's what's awesome about her movies is that I feel like unlike any other genre really taps into how people are feeling at any given time about certain things it has at least that capacity.
What makes a good horror film in 2020?
"Going on with horror movies. The Experience That Leads 3 Women To Say 'Being Black Is Exhausting'
"Earlier this year, NPR asked our listeners. What is it like to be black in America? Now to be clear. Lots of us who work at NPR have our own answers to that question. But more than 500 people wrote in and a lot of them said it is exhausting. As a black woman. We carry our community on our back. But our backs are cracking and we're tired and we're exhausted. I've come to understand that being black is exhausting. It's exhausting and un affirming. I called up three of the women who gave that answer. Who said they're tired? Asia cook is 38. She's a criminalist with the state of California. I always had this thing about growing up where I felt this need to do everything by the book because I didn't want to be a stereotype. Well, she's black, so it figures. And I remember I had a difficult time when I found out I was pregnant with my twins because Their father and I weren't married. I didn't want the assumption that of course I wasn't goingto have Ah, baby Daddy, Or, of course, I was goingto not finish school or or whatever it wass, you know, Always trying Teo stay ahead of people's assumptions. And it's tiring. It's exhausting to keep up with that. When it came to telling white friends or white colleagues. You all weren't married. Did you hesitate to do that? You know, I didn't really actually became quite obvious quite soon that I was pregnant, but the colleague of mine stepped into my office and said Congratulations and I was like, Oh, thanks and you know, and then, they said Sydney and I just want to thank you for you know, choosing life and gave me stats on abortions and how it was so much higher for women of color in over 50% of them. Choose to terminate the pregnancy, so I just really want to thank you. And I just thought like eyes that's really happening. Yes, it was really happening Next. I talked to Maria Ramirez. She's 31. She's the director of equity initiatives in you, Steinhardt. The day after I learned the news about George Floyd's death, I immediately experience trauma. And it was no one was speaking about it at work. It was like business as usual. And here I am dealing with trauma. It was really, really difficult. Did you go to your colleagues and say, Hey, at I'm messed up about the fact that you guys aren't talking about this. I actually did have some support. But given that I work specifically and diversity, equity and inclusion, it was like everyone was already leaning on me to be able to come up. With some kind of response or support to the whole community. There are other black women that would be an associate professor of applied psychology or something. And they would also be expected, even though it has nothing to do with their job to take on the extra burden of mentoring students that are black, the extra burden, forming the diversity committees and sitting on them and advising Their leadership on you know what we could do in this department? When everyone has access to the same resource is it always falls on people of color because they're black and Milo Howard is a 28 year old teacher and consultant in Bowie, Maryland. Milo When you're feeling that exhaustion what are the ways in which you find yourself behaving that? You think if I had time if I had space if I wasn't so tired I would prefer not to be doing this. I would probably say for me, it manifested. Almost zoning out, you know, and spaces where I would normally engaged Maurin spaces. Wagner normally would participate in conversation or share my ideas. There's no energy to tap into the things I normally would be passionate about. It's a lack of interest in things. It's a lack of, um Desire to even say anything anymore in a workplace seeming spaced out or disengaged or uninterested can really affect you professionally. Do you think that your exhaustion has stood in your way in the workplace? Absolutely. After seeing how some of our colleagues who are not black are moving, going everyday and conversations. I remember I was sitting in a meeting and I just finished like Watching the news had like a deep sob and I tap into the zoon Kon Somebody's talking about his beach house over the past weekend, and it's like Really Is that where we are, Do you? Are you not aware of what's happening? It's infuriating.
Christina Anstead splits with husband of less than 2 years
"Speaking of splits surprising This is a surprising, but the other one was not surprising. Yeah. That was a long time. An answer said are done. He's married. It's an An said, right? Yeah. "Just, really was the middle of the road. Yeah. No. Absolutely. So now moving into rotten tomatoes and I mentioned conflicted before that'd be a great way to describe the reviews on rotten tomatoes. So the critic score on Ron Tomatoes. eighty-one overwhelmingly. Positive. Audience. Score thirty. Huge contrast in it's not unheard of there are. Tons of other movies out there where you see big differences like this. Now, I wouldn't say it's the norm by any means, but it it has been done before I don't know where I stand on I. Still Don't know where I stand I. Guess if if I'm I'm put on the spot and you say, Kyle, you must give a score. High. Fifties. So. So it's still like it's not certified fresh because you gotta hit that sixty for thumbs up but it's not an overwhelming thumbs down either what about you? Where are you at with this movie I'm a sixty, one, sixty, two. Okay. So we're we're right around the same mark that yeah yeah. I said like I I. It's it's not a bad movie. So it's it's. Certain elements of it have been done before but not I wouldn't say not quite right like it's. It is unique in its in in a certain way. Once it. You know wasn't poorly written herb. Well acted like you know what I mean it's just like. It just I. I'm the road for like I can't. I can't feel a month uzice about it, but I'm not also. Disappointed in it you know. Yeah exactly, and so I think both of our scores are kind of in line there, and because because of everything you said, I got nothing for you for a budget. I couldn't really find anything about that. Obviously doesn't have a box office was never released in theaters. kind of had its its premiere last year in Twenty nineteen at at a at a festival, and then went straight onto shudder. so that that's where it's at for that hop on shutter folks check this out Then you'll see where we're coming from and you can get your thoughts in there as well. Other than that John Anything else to add on this one nothing on film. Nothing. On this one. So then all we have free folks is a little preview what we're doing next week Four next week I. Hope You enjoy Bacon and. And by Bacon I mean Kevin Bacon because we are going for tremors. Classic which John I'm going to tell you. I'm not sure the last time I saw this movie. Like, might might have been. Twenty five years ago that I saw it really I probably within the last decade for sure. I've seen in the last decade. Okay. So so then your memories a lot fresher than mine is mine is not fresh on this. So I'm just GONNA sit down and watch it again and something's will probably ring a bell but others will be like Oh i. Don't remember that but if you haven't seen it folks or if you haven't seen it in twenty five years like me hop on net flicks and watch it before next Sunday so that you can listen to what we think of it for sure enough. Really seen it roughly ten ten times like I've I've watched this a lot I enjoy is so. Well. There you go. So it won't be as shocking to watch eleventh time as it will be for me to watch the second time. Yeah, and you might be you might be in that. This is so dated thing we'll see we'll see. You you know what? Our listeners, you're going to have to tune in next week to see what would John and I say about this. Again, join the conversation online twitter instagram Senate. "I really liked how long it was hush kept pulling her face when she kept calling. Kept, coming out, avert Oh my God I thought that was an excellent Excellency I enjoyed that part. I'd have to say it's probably my best favorite. She actually taught this nails. Yeah for sure for sure. And it was your favorite part for a movie and I guess that was really cool and then we kinda. To find Randall and figure what's happening and then you you see that. In. The background as she's kind of trying to help Brando because he's sick Mrs Turner. Crawling out of the bedroom and she's it looks like almost as if she's possessed and crawling and that really free. Some reason just seeing that and and the way she looked it's almost like she was Zombie fight a little bit it Kinda. gave me. Give me the shivers a little bit. It was like a Zombie but also like almost like the way her eyes were white like that. It's like A. Supernatural thing is well, this is fairly interesting. Special Effects of two way to convey. The oddness of the situation I kinda liked that part. Yeah no definitely, and then so they get out of there and they they try and because they don't have car keys at that point and so they try and go to another. House and They both end up dying because as you said, they're they're both in fact it's just different stage. Yeah. Just a matter of time and then the final. Yeah. The final scene John. released. At me so the final scene is like an overhead shot of her lying on the beach and she is like turning she's like just on the cost of dying or completely turning or however you interpret it and she just keeps repeating to herself. Don't be scared. Don't be scared. Don't be scared. That has stuck with me for some reason and I don't know why all the only thing I can convey is that. I. Feel like that is completely realistic of of how some people have unfortunately perished in this world where they know they have life. ending injuries that are so severe and they know it they just have a few seconds laughter. A couple of minutes laughed at just all it really stuck with me. I don't know if I'm explaining that well, no, you are at the. Actually expand very well..

"So the scene where Emily's lying on a beach by herself because Randall's had those stomach issues, he's run up to the beach house, and then all of a sudden the I can't remember his his character's name, but the the older man shows up Mitch. Mitch you're absolutely right and he starts having a kind of a weird cryptic conversation with emily and then all of a sudden it's like, Oh, I'm GonNa go for swim and then there's that crazy seen of him to. Fully. Closed slowly walking into the water and farther and farther away until he drowns himself, he walks under the water So you obviously don't talking bill. It was really interesting. Cool seen. Why did he do that? John, was he infected at that point? He knew he was infected. He was just upset because he knew his wife was infected and. what are your thoughts? What were your interpretations for what was happening there? At that point they were all infected. They're all, but they're all at various stages of infection. And so and so he he knew he was infected and didn't WanNa go as far as his wife wants now hugest so. You. Don't know how this infection actually affects every person right odes because once again, I, was still early on the movie. So he still had Selma's that. Still Hide. From the night before but he wasn't quite high because he was more. Who's being more irrational, right so if you remember everything the infection everything started, it came out of the water in was released into the air. So to me when I watched at seen what I thought was that the water was calling him. And he wanted to go in it wanted to go and be with it right? Because it's that's what kind of. The microbes came out of the water, and if you notice a lot of seems this movie that the people were liquefying and so I thought. I thought immediately at that point that. He was infected He wasn't thinking straight, and at that point, the water was learn to him. Okay and so and so that's so he was Kinda you partway through that transformation that transition as you had described and so it was a little bit of him and also he was being taken over at the same time. This is that good way. Describe it out say because we don't know what I don't think these microbes themselves were sentient in any way. I distinct there. Okay. I think there's just a roading or just multiplying taking over. His biological gloves biologicals Stephan side of them. Very interesting and then as you said, that's why it was as if the water was was calling to him and he just couldn't resist that anymore. Right? Okay no very very interesting there and then from there. So she's Kinda left on her own and kind of runs towards the water because it really freaked wrote into kind of freaked me odors of you're watching because it was such A. A different unique thing that you don't usually ever see and she steps on that. Jellyfish. The one. Has. Turned into almost like like creature that crawled into her foot. Yeah so it was pretty gross stuff I. Really that's probably my favorite scene in the movie. When she's doing like the Self Lake. Operation. move the. 'cause we we talked last week about hike alone him sewing himself up around Michael I could never do that, and then of course I get what one up where she has to do like self surgery on her foot to pull this like living out like that was like a crazy seat..

"She knew, should have been just randall over rentals family that had stuff in there. Secondly, it's a beach house on the beach. We don't know at this point whether or not it. It's rented when they're not around like if they rented the off season, are they rented through year round like I don't know and they didn't mention any of that yet it was really early in the movie so wouldn't wouldn't expect them to bring that up yet. So could have been. Stuff in like she could have thought in the bathroom. Okay. Well, people that rented this stuff look medications or whatever the case may be right and and then so then she starts walking around more now when she did go downstairs and find food and stuff in the sink in on the counter and stuff like that and. She did go upstairs wake up randall but when she figured out, the lady was coming. Right. So I don't have too much of an issue I. think that's At that point still very early on the movie where you could get away with not explaining a lot of things. And and I can't argue with you, and perhaps I am being overly critical there and maybe I'm just putting myself. In I tend to do that throw films as what would I do and I find walking around some strange host, my underwear, and there's any sort of a glimpse chance racy anything to indicate that there might be other people there. I'm going back and put my clothes on and I guess that's just where I'm coming from. For sure in a lot of times. What can kind of make a movie really really well when you can put yourself into that film at the same time, you can't always do that. They're the reason why we do that. So we can have you know what would I do in this situation which draws you into the film, which is something filmmaker strive for, and they want you to do the same time. You have to be able to look at that character uncle K. while. I'm not a nineteen year old college student the email. So I don't know what I would do in that situation you've gotta be able to step back in Ambokire? What would this character do now once again, it was very early on the movie. So you don't know that she's as smart or anything like that. Yet you don't know anything about her now fit was near the end of the movie and you knew a lot more better day. I. Think you can comment on what she would do read this point I still still don't. I think at this point, you would only be what would a reasonable person do because that's the only thing that you Knowing in in that makes sense. Now moving onto one of my I, guess favorite scenes in the movie for the crazy visual, and I have a question for you..

"Older couple ends up being there that say their friends Randall's died but I didn't know where we were going. I didn't know if these this older couple had the intentions for for emily and Randall or what was happening. So I guess that kind of kept me interested in being like are they gonNA turn on them or is there something else going on here? Yeah. They're trying to sort of red herring in there right so in in the bathroom with all those different types of medications, then the odd meeting with the woman. Inside inside their own house and just to the reactions to each other to be awkward off you know, and so you didn't really know where it was going to go in like like I said, there's only that one liner where the said you know something ominous happens at the Beach House. So you don't know exactly what that ominous event would-be, right? So I didn't know what it was either so it was good. Do It's good to kind of Sit there and watch absorbed without actually having idea what was coming. And I like that it was it was good in that sense but you'd have to not read anything about the film to get that same type of. Effect. And I think that that's important that you said that because again and I brought it up multiple times in the past sometimes I ruined movies for myself by watching the trailer too many times and by looking into it in reading about it too much where it was kind of refreshing. I guess view just to kind of just go into it. Knowing nothing just to enjoy that film. But right if if you did go into this blind, like we did it was very well hidden very well disguised what the the biggest problem was going to be. It's moby sure and it was interesting area that they're in right like. You didn't know what you're going to get at the very beginning because they were made a point of showing how extremely isolated they were. Right. Emily looked out over the over world..

"Today we'll be discussing Jeffrey a Brown's twenty, nine, thousand, nine horror film the House. The movie follows college couple, emily and Randall as they traveled to Randall's family secluded beach house thing soon, go terribly wrong though as gas released from the ocean. Effect people eventually killing them and causing them the mutate. Emily and Randall attempt to escape the coast. But in the end, they ultimately end up some succumbing themselves. John Opening thoughts in the movie. So I saw this movie on shuttered I'm like we watched too many showed movies lately Mike is five dollars a month or whatever whatever I'm paying for it and it's like It took it. It's a good service. So I'm GONNA figure out what movies are watch. I saw this one. I didn't read what it really was about that one liner pretty much sums the whole thing out but you don't. There's not much more to it than that. In the description itself, there's no biological entities discussed at all. It's just that right so And then I checked it on rotten tomatoes a good score and I'm like, okay let's do this because I haven't seen. I don't think calcium seen it. and. Let's do this one in so. Watched it. and. Say I. Enjoyed it. Yet it. Johnny kind summed up. Perfectly the title does really tell you what this is. It's the Beach House the entire movie happens at this Beach House. And it's an interesting movie. I I don't know what to think here. There were good parts to this bad parts to this. I would have a tough time giving this too much praise to be honest and I I don't know if I would even really recommend this film to someone, but we can kind of get into that as we go. But can you kind of see maybe where I'm coming from a absolutely this is this is a Nashville. So I've only not like an each market type thing but I know the type of person I would recommend it to and there's a lot of people I would recommend it to you know what I mean. So like if I'd be very specific about who I would say, you would like this movie to whereas like even with like this movie rights should be up his alley and Sophie Louise Absolutely not. Right exactly. Exactly. So I kind of know who who would enjoy it,.

"That the to just purchased a six million dollar house in my neck of the woods in Dole Rife Florida. And? They will probably establish residency there so that they can home said their property. To give a little background on homestead my house that I own. It also has a homestead exemption pretty much everyone who owns a house in Florida home says it because it gives you tax benefits a little bit like a tax break There's also other things that make it appealing to move here. We don't have a state income tax. So establishing your residency here can be appealing can be appealing place to come for people with large amounts of money. It's probably why every rich person has a house in Palm Beach. And people like obscene how to place here, and on top of all that said, protects your home from Levy by creditors. So if you have a debt, the creditor can't force the sale of your house to cover that. So let's say someone gets a big judgment against you in court they can't force you to use your house as an asset to pay for that judgment. So, there's lots of surmising over why they did that again I think it's kind of A. Regular course of business move and I'm I don't think they'll even be able to get home set on their house for this tax year would have to I. Think you have to be living in your house as of January first? Of the year, you're claiming homestead so it probably won't be able to kick in for them until next year. But again, just just worth you know discussing. And, another update is someone who says that they've been following this for two years. They sent a message to Emily Sang Anthony the husband moved Tanya into the office adjacent to him. They cut corners to produce the powders in bars with large markups. So this allowed the company to grow pretty rapidly and they bought so much inventory that when the pandemic hit, they basically had to give away the products before they expired. So tiny was making this big to do about. Oh, we're donating all of these products to the cause. But this person saying like you know she was just doing that because the products were about ticks. and. I've just been starting to see more messages like this just talking about money and the intrigue and n how the money's always been the bottom line which again no shit. That's the health and wellness industry right now, people are trying to make a buck off it. A fans of emily started a gofundme for her because she's hiring an attorney for potential criminal claims against her and..

"And it's kind of a good news bad news situation with being back a good news is that we're back. We've got a full upset for today. The bad news is that I think we might have been a little bit naive and presuming this would be the start of a normal fall podcasting season John and Jerry of the past we're like, Oh, I'm sure they'll be back in school I hope they'll be back in school that was when cases were trending different way than trending. Now I think we were hopeful probably a little bit naive that this would be start a fairly normal school semester for our kids but obviously, I'm sure a lot of you guys are going through the same thing throughout the country in the world. That like it's not, it's not going to be enormous start to school. I know some people are going in person some people are doing part time. Our kids are doing virtual learning here at home, and so the next few months are not looking the way that we expected them to I mean I guess that's just twenty twenty right? That is a sentence everyone listening I can say like I didn't picture my August. And September looking like this there is a meme. Put it in the show notes it's about cheese and it basically shows like a beautiful cheese board and bree topped and fruit, and that's January you have runs through January February march April may and it's like someone gradually looking more like chaotic just like a celebrity who's going from like their Glam, red carpet, all the way to being frazzled and just screaming into the void. Opposite of glow up. This is cheese demonstrating and it goes from like a beautiful breed topped and fruit to like someone eating a chunk of cheese right from like the Hong. Like neighbors was not slicing going on and then it ends with leg one slice of American cheese in the plastic grab the craft rap cheese. That is your August and September for sure everyone we talked to you feels like they're going through this pivots with work pits with life pivots with family. It's not just the schooling thing that's just one of the left turn that's going on right now we really don't need to detail for everyone why this year's gotten complicated you guys all get it. So we just when we Looked at everything decided that the podcast something that we probably need to put a pin in for a little while if nothing else just because of the logistics of making it while our kids are here doing their virtual learning because a quiet house has been in short order lately. Yes we don't WanNa make any promises right now about wind will be back with the podcast because if we're taking one lesson right now from this year is that you can't predict what's going to happen anyways I'm sorry for the bad news. Because you guys know we love making this podcast and it pains us to put it on sort of a question mark hiatus but we just figure. That's the best thing right now for us but we said it was a good news bad news situation I feel like the good news of this is instead of just telling you on instagram or the blog like, hey, we can't get back to the podcast. Instead we have a bunch of updates. We're going to give you a robust full episode right now to kind of. Catch you up with everything that's been happening something that happened when we were on a break that I got so many DMZ about everyone was like we need to hear about this. Segue when I said Segue man it made me think of the picture of you on the SEGUE which I'll put in the show notes. John Looks what in the show notes because I feel like at this point, it's really great from probably ten years ago, and it's just John Standing on a segue. If anybody sees these show, not vacuum and gonNA wonder what this episode was about and I will say important things that I had to update people on and means lots of memes. But what we're going to talk about is a project actually just. Wrapped up here at our House I. Think if you've followed our blog the last few months over the summer, you've seen pretty much every room in this house so far I think the only thing left is the bathroom, and if we have our act together, we will have a post on it this week. So you will have officially seen every room in the house by Wednesday when you have six rooms eight goes. Really Fun. It's like much more settled feeling than we expected but something outside took forever to come together while and the funny thing is it should have been a pretty straightforward thing. The thing was a fence. We knew we were in ads fencing to our yard at some point just to give us a little bit more separation from our neighbors we learn from our time at our beach, house in Cape Charles? That when you're on these small lots a fairly dense neighborhood that it's nice to do some sort of. Like privacy fencing, just to make the yard field a little bit more like intimate in some spots. So like we wanted some fence between our neighbor directly to our side, you know the one that's the house under construction that you might be able to hear us we record. Yeah. Sometimes they pop in on the podcast and it sounds a little something like this wait I'll do a nail gun who the Hula Jerry is gunning for an outtake here I can tell that was abd core strength that came from the belly. How Neil feels well, and in addition to the one on the side between the construction were also eventually going to do something outside our bedroom to create like a little private courtyard area off of our bedroom. So we knew there were some things we're going to do at some point we weren't in a big rush, but we knew we wanted that fence between us and the construction pretty quickly. We actually got the ball rolling on that as soon as we got here like maybe the second day we were in Florida, I, feel like I needed disclaimer. To this, a lot of it has to do with the culture of Your neighborhood in Cape Charles it was very common. There was a certain height that was allowed lots of people. Did It neighbors went in on it together this neighborhood is similar. So we actually spoke with the builder who's building that House next door, and we're going in on this fence together. So I thought Ooh, we got this ball rolling right away. When we landed here, we've got the builder in on it like we're really going to roll on this fence what was supposed to But I, guess there's actually a big fence material shortage I. Don't know if it's related to the corona virus or not, but they had a lot of trouble having things in stock. So kept getting pushed back and pushed back in this thing that we thought we were going to have taken care of by like early June took like two and a half months we didn't get it until just last week. So the very beginning of August and really please this is not like tiny violin. Dog was just a surprise. It's just funny because they were like, yeah three weeks don't worry about it and

"Nothing fancy nothing complicated, but you'd want it to be good enough to share with friends for ideas. I talked to Mary Kay Andrews. A prolific novelist grew up in Saint Petersburg and whose more recent books have names like summer rental beach, town and sunset beach and last year she came out with the Beach House Cookbook Easy Breezy recipes with a southern accent. But Mary Kay Andrews. Thank you so much for being here. My pleasure. Thanks for having me Robert. I! WanNa know what is the Ultimate Beach House Menu? So you also describe Your Beach House on Taibbi island Georgia. I'm dying for an invitation. I. Think that's what your plan was. What people read this and thought? How can become friends with? Mary well, that's automatically my evil plan, but you know Parnham plan to is to. Even if you don't cook too, and I know lots of people tell me they don't cook. They just like to read cookbooks. because it puts them in a good mood at you know so. Many of our memories have to do with food and friendship and family and hospitality, so that was really the aim of the of the cookbook to share some good memories and some good menus and some good recipes. Because each recipe has a little. You gave a little story or a little description at the beginning of it, and it put you there. So let's say that I wrangled an invitation to Mary Kay Andrews beachell's on Taibbi land. What would be the menu? How what would we? Let's say? We start off the cocktail. Yeah sandbars Sangria sounds like a good plan. It's summertime We don't want anything to heavy so and our Sangria is really just a good bottle of dry Rosa wine sheldon I slice in some peaches in some strawberry, and then add some seltzer for a little bit of bubbly. And you know I've got got meant growing in the little gardens around Ab tied so he dropped in since springs immense and when he would. Sit Out on the deck and listened to the ocean. Sounds. A Funny Byproduct Of Having To Buy Fewer Products
"About our fancy frame TV. Over the last couple of weeks on the PODCAST and I guess also on the blog. If you've seen our last couple blog post, we've been talking about how we've been pleasantly surprised that the furniture we moved down here for the most part fit very well and naturally into our new home. Yeah, it is kind of amazing to say. We showed a bunch of stuff in the. The pod I mean we did have measurements for rooms, and we did have an idea of what we're going to wear, so we weren't just like willy. Nilly putting a bunch of things in the pod, but we knew as we loaded the pod like there is going to be a margin for error I'm sure we'll get there and something won't work the way we thought it. It would because there's really nothing like being in a space and moving furniture around like you can try to do that in your head. When you're not in the space, it's really hard to land on the right. You Know Group of objects in the right. Lay Out I think anytime. We've moved houses. There's been this process where like some of your old furniture doesn't fit in. In the new house, for whatever reason like maybe it's because of the scale of the peace or the exact dimensions, or even a style, but you know you have these pieces that just don't land and work I think we expected that issue with at least some of the things that we brought down, but again we're grateful. Most everything has pretty much worked as it is. Is Yeah were even things John was like I. don't even know why we're bringing this. And then we brought it, and like played a very important role like remember. We talked about those bookcases that we're using in the kitchen and they have like so much storage. They're basically like extending our cabinets using as a pantry fought to leave those in richmond or sell them in Richmond. Richmond because I didn't think we had a place for them. And Sherry was right and the table in the kitchen. There's like a round white table that was like a game table in our old house in the bonus room and John was like I can't picture for people being able to eat here. I can't picture it fitting in the kitchen and it like probably won't live. Live there forever, but it is so good for now and if it hadn't made the POD, we'd be in trouble once again. Sherry was right so I think it's been nice because we didn't have this kind of like panic buying mode when we got here. We're like we don't have a kitchen table shot for one real quick and pretty much the only things that we have. Have had to buy at least the big furniture pieces we've had to buy have been things we knew we'd have to get because we didn't bring them with us. Like our beds like we had to get an outdoor dining table and other side note as we were packing the dining table with outdoor dining table in Richmond, and it was routed in the legs fell off. So we basically bought the same sized table. It was a different finish in a different color, and it works perfectly like I'm actually really glad that one did fall apart in Richmond. Has that one was like seven years old and disbar gone, and even informed the decision like that one was would, and it was rotten, so we got a metal and resin one. That will not, so you know some things were just dumb. Luck. Something's were strategy, but whatever it is that led us to where we are. We both kind of expected to land me like okay so now we need a rug dresser aside table six lamps five. Cheers. But you know what I'm saying I thought we'd land and have this list of like huge furniture items we needed, and it's like all we really needed. Where the things we knew we needed off the bat like beds. Yeah I, think that's the point here is that we've been grateful that we haven't had to go on like this sudden shopping spree and the other thing I wanted. Wanted to point out that was interesting. As we are shopping for one of the other items. We knew we'd have to get which has been window coverings, because as you have probably seen on instagram. We've been using packing blankets. It's very swanky at Casa Peter Sick. Let me tell you packing blankets. They disintegrate into like a black soot, and it's all over your window sills, it's. It's all over your floors, but we have started to receive some of the curtains that we bought, and it highlighted something interesting about downsizing and going to a smaller house that I think we consciously have known, but this particular purchase was like a good case study to help us quantify one of the benefits of living in a smaller space and furnishing a smaller space I think. Think things that are more obvious to everyone is like Oh to clean and less to pay to heat and cool like we said that over and over again. It's like less maintenance if I only have one bathroom I, worry less about maintaining four showers, enforcing them leaking and all that stuff, but I think this is one of those things where it's like when we say it. But it's just a thing we consciously knew, but then it was really interesting to see the actual numbers I. Actually don't know all the numbers. John is going to reveal them to me. Yeah, so I actually went back and tallied how many curtain panels and blinds we had to buy for our Richmond House, which as you probably heard? Her say is more than twice the size of the house. We are now living in Florida. So obviously had more windows to cover. Yeah, I can't wait to hear the numbers. John was like their staggering. I was staggered, so keep in mind. We didn't have curtains on every window so like not in the kitchens, bathrooms or anything like that and having a dining room, either yes, so this is not representative all the windows, so we had actually more blinds, and we had curtains, but we had twenty four curtain panels in Richmond. House K Twenty four, and I should point out. Out In recent months before we left, we were starting to like double up. Some of the curtain panels to make them look thicker right. Some have always been double in our living room. That was four panels instead of to on that big picture window in our office. We had a big picture window with four pounds instead of two. Did you just count those to? Double them because I couldn't remember what was doubled, so the twenty four number is probably closer to like thirty or thirty two. Yeah, that's what I would guess. We also have thirty blinds throughout. The houses were also. Roughly sixty two different window coverings. That Jack's yeah I mean. It was a lot I. Remember hanging those. It took us forever and I remember buying them, and it was so much money. I remember the blinds. We were like Oh. Do we need lines? Backpedal real quick and when we got home depot and saw the total. Yes, so again thirty ish curtain panels thirty blinds. Are you ready for the Florida numbers? I can't wait in Florida instead of thirty. We only need eight curtain panels, eight curtain panels versus thirty well, there's the saving instead of thirty blinds. We need five blinds. Five lines is my favorite and. And we're being very specific about these lines, guys. No one has researched blinds more than us. We will share what we pick when it arrives and we're sure we like it I. Don't want to jinx it. Hence all the packing blankets because we're taking our time and I also just for fun also looked at the number of curtain panels in blinds that. That we had to buy for the Beach House and the duplex. That's going to be like a million. A million I mean feel like we're. It's going to be close because it was three kids nine bathrooms like it was six seven, eight nine hundred ten bedrooms like it's a lot of juices well, and it was also fifty two curtain panels O and And Forty two blinds, no regrets right. We're glad we had curtains and blinds, but it sure is nice. When what did you say it's eight and five here in Florida compared to when we tally all of those previous homes that we sold eighty two curtain panels and seventy two blinds is so insane. Yes, and we ironed in hand

Bathrooms: A Slippery Slope?
"A lot around here because you've heard us. Talk about how this house currently only has one bathroom, which we are all sharing, which is not as bad as we thought eventually. Will we add ONS ON SUITE BATHROOM IN? In our bedroom, yes, but are we like losing your minds with frustration for sharing all of us in that went bathroom. No, it is surprisingly fine. Yeah, I mean we're talking about how we're GONNA incorporate an on suite bathroom to our bedroom. Because as much as this is fine, a will be nice not to have to like. Walk down the hall in the middle of the night and use the. The restroom nearer to the kids rooms like it'll be nice to like. Take my contacts out and brush my teeth in the privacy of our own bedroom. Yeah, it'll be nice and we'll do it eventually, but I'm like pool I the planning the fall well speaking, playing the poor along with the pool. We're also having to plan a little guest house because we don't have a guest room here for when. When family comes to visit so part of that guesthouse house, which will be tiny guesthouse makes it sound very grand, but it's GONNA be tiny. It's going to be basically a detached bedroom with its own bathroom because we'd like to put a bathroom in there, so that whomever saying there doesn't have to like walk outside into our house to use the bathroom. They've got their own. I did say like. Like three times. Are we sure that the guest cottage needs a bathroom? But I really do picture a lot of people stay with us in the middle of the night, needing a bathroom and I do not want them to have to like. Knock on our door, sneak in the side door or just feel like they're invading our space like out in the rain I ju. Yeah, it seems pretty much like. Like A non-negotiable that they're at least has to be a bathroom there and obviously we are fine sharing for now, but it just feels like a poor decision for this house to not have like an on suite bathroom eventually that goes with the main bedroom. Yeah, I think the hesitation we keep having more like. Oh, my gosh, we're going to go to three-fold bathrooms plus an outdoor shower like we're. We're GONNA four showers eventually, which is basically the exact same number we had in our beach house. We had three full bathrooms and an outdoor shower, and I think we both looking back on. It realize that it's probably more than we needed two full bathrooms upstairs the hall and the one off our bedroom, and then also downstairs there was a full one like near the mud room, which was nice. Nice because when you came in from the beach like you could use it, but like cleaning three sometimes felt like a lot and the one downstairs really didn't get used that much like we use the outdoor shower much more than the indoor one downstairs. We probably could have done without that third bathroom. So that's why we're like pausing when we think about going to so many here in this house. I'm like. Can't they use how Jewish you our, but it's like. No, even if we put it toilet in there, they couldn't like. It would not function like a real bathroom for whoever's in the guest house, and especially because we're gonNA, have a lot of our older relatives. We just want to give them something super comfortable and not like an outhouse experience. Well and the funny thing about us. Thinking about this was I came across an article from the Atlantic that I. Don't know if it made me feel better about it, but it made me feel like I was part of a larger trend, I guess which a bad, too many bathrooms. Well kind of so this article from the Atlantic is called America is overrun with bathrooms I mean. We certainly have seen it when we were house. Hunting here, guys and a lot of the houses you look at our renovated to be rentals, so they have a lot of bathrooms and. Bedrooms and it was like such a phenomenon that so many of the houses if it had six bedrooms. Bathrooms and we were like Oh my God. Everyone has a bathroom I mean if you think back to our duplex which renovated to be a rental that's bedrooms and it had six bathrooms. I mean they were on each side, so it was three and three, but it still is funny because we never designed it for like. To, have a bathroom, and in fact, two of those six were downstairs, and they were just like for the kitchen and the dining room, but it is funny to think how quickly you can end up with a whole bunch of bathrooms, and it feels normal, but what this article was pointing out is that it is a somewhat uniquely American phenomenon have so many bathrooms per household member and the article which Lincoln. The show notes goes through kind of a very interesting history of bathrooms. Feel like bathrooms is really our sweet spot on this podcast? We just really every episode must include something about a bathroom, a toilet, a p bag, something that references relieving oneself or washing oneself okay. But this in the past half century, so in the last fifty years, the number of bathrooms per American has doubled and it says we are unique in the rest of the world for how many bathrooms we have, because we typically have now one bathroom per household member O c. we still will not have that. We feel like it will be a lot to have three bathrooms, but we will still be four people. And when we entertain, we'll be a lot more than four because we're gonNA pack that little guest cottage like what couple means each? That's my confusion. Well. Let me take you to the history briefly. Okay, if I, may you. You may so this article goes way back to Roman times to talk about how like bathing used to be a very public experience like public baths were plentiful right and like bathroom functions happened in a public area. They said much like you'd a city bus. You'd go to the public bathroom. Take care of business wait. Are we talking about take care of business?
