"FBI is investigating yesterday's widespread twitter attack that we told you about this morning. Hackers took over an array of high profile accounts and posted messages telling users that if they sent bitcoin to a crypto currency account double, that amount would be sent back to them joining me to discuss. Is Wsj heard on the street columnist Dan Gallagher? Dan I. We've seen security breaches on twitter before. Why was Wednesday's attack different while I think it's because you'll pass. Breaches tended to either be very focused on like when Jack Dorsey. His account got hacked last year and somebody sent these awful racist tweets. And that was that was bad, but that was kind of a singular incident. This one was bad because it took so many high profile names. You Know Barack Obama Bill Gates He Wan Mosque Joe Biden and sent. This clearly kind of prank ish, amateurish attempt to score some money, but apparently worked. As we saw the account that was attached to Biden's tweet. For instance seem to have gotten more than one hundred thousand dollars worth of Bitcoin so. Some people somewhere saw these things and decided. Hey, I'm going to do. What other damage may have been done besides the spreading of these fraudulent messages? That's a good question. Hint that there might have been other damaged on that. We don't see publicly. That too is scary, but I think what made this attack. Kind of a big deal was was more about the how it raised all these. What s you know? What if the hackers took these big named accounts and actually did something more malicious than some scheme to get some money you can imagine there's high profile. Political leaders who use twitter business leaders use twitter, and not everybody who uses twitter uses it in a responsible way, so you have the possibility that somebody could tweet something that would be honestly destabilizing globally is actually a real. A feasible concept, and that's what's scary. In your column, you write that Twitter's biggest strength is also its biggest weakness. What do you mean by that? Well I think what this showed. Is that you know it's? It's one thing to have this phone or ability. They've discovered and they'll. They'll certainly were to try to. figure out what went wrong and prevent it from happening in the future. Because a lot rides on that for them, but the problem again is this shows how quickly you know. Bad and misleading militia information can spread in an instant, and that's not really a bug in the twitter program. That's actually twitter's designed to the seminary information quickly broadly, and almost without regard to the information is is good or not. You know, and it has good intentions behind it so. I think that's where you know. Obviously twitter appeals to its users, because of the way can spread information you know, but again that very feet that very design makes it possible for things like this to happen and be potentially very damaging. What impact could this have on twitter's business and twitter's stock price? What tends to happen in these things I think investors look at something like this. You know it gives them some worry because advertisers see this kind of thing and say maybe I'm not going to use twitter as much that could be. That could have business consequence for the company, but both twitter and And facebook already kind of dealing with that consequence right now. The stocks have really underperformed this year because we're seeing a growing number of advertisers, deciding to express concern about you know how these platforms are used for misinformation in harmful information, and so I think that concerns kind of baked into the stock price and I think that's probably why he didn't see a big reaction this morning, because it's their bit, and then beyond that it's kind of hard for investors to evaluate you know. Does twitter ultimately going to do what how would that possibly impact its appeal to advertisers? Those are those are still unknowns. All right, Dan. Thank you so much for joining us.

It's a Finnish name. was a drug that was banned from Finland in the fifties after the Prince of Finland took it. What happened to him well, he He has a bad back he takes. Then some people in his palace ticket. It gets around you know then, or has it. All of the servants in his palace turned into pieces of furniture, candlesticks and foot stools. Wait to. He turned into a beast. Who told you that I think it's from beauty and the beast? I think your. Way You're saying. Is that the Princeton? The beauty and the beast in his entire castle had a bad reaction to a muscle relaxant. Oh! So people know about that. Yeah, it's actually a children's story. Are you frowning. "Which to this day has not been verified there's been no corroborating evidence to support it that surfaced. Over the President-elect Trump that that was verified that the salacious aspects about the tapes, George Stephanopoulos, interviewed you to your or your when your first book came out, and I just want to play something you said about those about this. Can you believe tonight? Honestly, never thought these words we'd come out of my mouth. But I don't know whether the current president is states with prostitutes peeing on each other Moscow two thousand thirteen it's possible. But I don't know so investigations over. Now nothing in the motor report corroborated that salacious claim about the tapes in prostitutes. Do you regret making those comments which some would see as sort of stoking the fires or leaving is an open question. Dr is trying to give an honest answer my answer, it'd be the same today. But you could have just said well those were unverified. That's what I was saying that I don't know. Whether it's true or not that's a crazy thing to have to say because any other leader. I would think I would say, that's preposterous. It couldn't possibly be true. There's a footnote in the Muller report that actually makes potentially oblique reference to these tapes were someone in Russia is alerting. I think Michael Cohen in October late October, we stopped the flow of the tapes. I don't know exactly what he means by that. But Muller seems to connected in some way to that allegation. Again, Muller didn't say wasn't the case, she didn't disprove it. But he also didn't establish that it was the case, right? I think that person said the that those tapes hammer were false another important thing is the counter-intelligence part of this work, which is what whether the Russians had leverage over the president. That would be part of the counterintelligence investigation Mullen left that with the FBI his document is about a prosecutors look at whether their crimes to be pressing using the restaurants have leverage over prison Trump. I don't know the answer to that things possible. Yes. Greeny. Komi is now private citizen. It can say whatever he wants. But how do you feel about a former FBI director giving some credence to an allegation pretty salacious that the FBI has never verified? I guess I'm not sure that he's giving credence to it. He's simply say that. He doesn't know if it's true or not is coming from the former director of the FBI is keeping alive something that you normally wouldn't do when you're the FBI you deal with facts with evidence that you can corroborate. Jim Komi is going beyond that in that colloquy with Anderson Cooper, I understand. I think I understand your point. But I mean, he's he's a privacy. Now, he is entitled to say whatever he wants. I guess I would say that look there's no information in the mullahs report that establishes the veracity of that allegation. And so I guess. I would I would leave it at that. There's no information there that indicates that that allegation is reliable. It's isn't airline time. Don't you know enough now to be able to say that based on all of the investigations took place all of the assessing of the steel report that there is reason to cast doubt on a sensational allegation like that. Or we wouldn't go that far. I don't know what the bureau has found there's been no public assertion that it is reliable by the bureau or by Muller. And so and there's been nothing to establish at least in the public record that I'm aware of nothing to establish that that particular allegation is is true. And so I think it's I guess I would say it's prudent at this point in time to have skepticism because I think were there to be something that would validated. You would have thought it would have come out. So this point time. So call me is wrong to be speculating about this. I'm not going to say that he's wrong to be speculating. He's entitled to his opinion. I've phrased it the best. I can in terms of how I would think about it. Now, there's no information to validate it at this point time that's been made public. And so, you know, going back to the beginning..

"Oh everybody had your san vacated titled we all know what happened the reality is we're talking about duke you would see michigan state relates anybody's final four any you're going into a season k b i gotta ask the same question i asked before to you how is the ncaa the one after the fbi's dealt with this actually going through with any investigation can they possibly be eliminated after all this i mean i can the into aa be eliminated williamsville into aa can be eliminated because this is really beyond their scope of this is part of of the college industrial athletic complex right but this is really beyond their scope in the sense that you're talking about agents who are funneling players with money with hopes that they will sign on with them later after their college careers this is even with this is even the ole thing we talk about boosters being involve bringing players into their programmes with promises of natural history taking for instance and since that is true frank do you believe that kind of removes some of the hall of fame coaches attached to the programmes we were just talking about 'cause that's what we heard first hall of fame careers are gonna be put into question here or we had to assume that was true ski is though self that mean those are the coaches who are employed your calipari do you believe push we're talking about an agency working through players and and not the old fashioned way coaches extending money that they are least cleared in some way i i think it's going to lotto is going to be hard to prove your built talked about a preemptive strike that's where louisville did with rick patino i just think a lot of these coaches are going to say hey listen i don't know that an agent is paying the family of one of my players how i supposed to know it you can say you're in charge of the program you should but let's be honest it's almost impossible.

"Trust you because i'm gonna i'm gonna cooperate in a way that risks my life uh against some really bad people need to understand and half that paid the competence and when you're constantly barrage seeing that competence in that integrity it will make their jobs much more difficult and we'll make our uh in that were candid with russians the chinese the iranians will use this kind of an approach uh to communicate to people who we would be interested in talking to we'd be in the american intelligence community that that listen if you do this you're taking you're you're you're doing the wrong thing you're grinning trees the number one and number two you're gonna trust an organization that just can't be trusted that has an absolute consequences and any acknowledgement that it doesn't i think he's just ross by the way i uh i i loved reading up on your uh early storied career as an fbi agent insists row illinois uh busting uh uh town officials who were mobbed up uh i think it began i read the u d were doing surveillance on at a at a brothel uh that was being run by the mob but i mean if how important in cases like that where you're going after corrupt politicians that the fbi not be viewed as in one camp or another or in any kind of partisan uh light oh it's their hugely different i you know if there's a democrat machines republican machines and all of that exists around the country to some degree or another and if you show up as an fbi guy and your investigating uh you know republicans are in this case uh people are gonna have you know the bigger razor eyebrow a little bit like can i trust this person and i i do think that happens you know and and people don't understand that uh fbi agents work a lot by themselves in the movies you you get to see you know herds of fbi agents running around doing thanks a lot of times it's an agent in individual asia out there slipping around trying to figure out a few pieces of information that advances their case and when you open those credentials and those credentials are a hearttoheart heart on uh and you flip them up in that fidelity bravery and integrity means something that's why it means something in it's so important to agents who take the.

"And just that press conference that colmey held to me was like it shows that the fbi does have a problem with constantly getting involved in politics when it shouldn't uh it might be in the right in this case because it's pursuing what seems to be a series investigation against donald trump but still i'm uncomfortable with the idea of this law enforcement agencies consistently getting embroiled in our policy some i remember and that was definitely very much on on my mind app back when met when the fbi was was the enemy of liberals was a case from back in 2014 when at the mayor of washington d c vince gray was the target of a federal corruption investigation four basically for campaign finance law violations that would not be illegal today at but that were illegal at the time of the 2010 campaign and it seemed like the kind of case where the prosecutors one person people they they lie to make big case skin and like i i don't think they were going after grave for low motives they thought they had this great case and they thought they were going to take the mayor down um but it turned out that well they had a pretty good case against some of his aides they never had a case that they could bring to prosecutors against vince gray but instead of clearing him what they did was about a week before the election they leaked to the washington post that they were imminently going to file criminal charges he lost the election and then they just never filed charges because apparently they didn't have the case and to me which really striking about this you know any agency shit can happen this lot people working in the federal government but nothing happened as a result of that you know what i mean there was no nobody said james colmey the director and the other people in his office they didn't look back at that and say well somebody really fucked this up you can't leak.
