Report: ACC may cancel football season if fewer than 8 teams can play

"This is going to be the norm. Moving forward in college football here for this season is you will also get stories of games. Being postponing the A. C C has been part of that as well. Remember a couple of weeks ago, Virginia Tech NC State was pushed back couple of weeks. It was supposed to start on this opener. So Virginia Tech's opener pushback to next week when there was a take on Virginia in the rivalry game battle of the Commonwealth Cup. But earlier today that game the announcement came forward that has been postponed. They too be made a little bit later. That because of covert 19 issues on Virginia Tech's campus, not the only game postponed today. BYU who just went on the road and beat Navy on Monday, today, announcing that they have a few positive tests and because of contact tracing their game next Saturday at Army has also been postponed. They're both hoping to make that game up coming up here in the coming weeks, also postponed today Memphis on the road at Houston that was supposed to be played. This Friday More Memphis just played Arkansas state last weekend big outbreak on that campus that has been reported Memphis will not play Houston, the American coming up on Friday, But on the positive note, Houston will make up a game. Took less than eight hours for them to schedule a game with Baylor for next Saturday at noon Eastern seven days. That's all it takes for two teams to get together. Baylor's opener was supposed to be tonight against Louisiana Tech. That game, though originally postponed because of an outbreak. With Louisiana Tech's campus as well. All

Just one week after SUNY Oneonta welcome students back to campus institutions do not about their students. They haven't done entry testing they haven't done quarantining Dr. Rashi, Sha and other public health officials are urging students already on campus to stay there to prevent the spread of the virus. Fauci: There is not "a lot of definitive evidence" that coronavirus can transmit through airborne spread, but it should not be ruled out

"CROWBARS cases are increasing and at least thirty six states this week Texas set a new record high for the number of new cases in a single day today, topping ten thousand cases for the first time at ten, thousand and twenty eight Arizona set a new grim record high for the number of coronavirus deaths in a single day today at one hundred seventeen. Some states reversing their policy. On allowing indoor dining in restaurants today, Dr, Anthony Fauci said this. When you talk about heiress, ill or airborne? There have been demonstrations viruses. That can actually stay in the air for much longer enhance. Get caught up in the circulation system of given room. There isn't a lot of definitive evidence about what the impact of the Aristotle Ization is on covert expression. However, we have some good examples back with SARS which is a similar virus where they were clear cut examples of spread by Aerosol. Juror discussion now is Dr. Peter says. He is the dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and the CO director of the Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development Doctor. Thank you very much for joining us tonight, and just in reaction to what Dr Fauci was just saying in the whole question of indoor dining in restaurants, one of the simple messages is being outside is better than being inside. Yeah that's right now. We know that droplet contact is a major out of transmission meaning that somebody has this virus and what we know about this viruses, that's it's president. High amounts in the Upper Airways speaking, or you cough. You released a lot of virus, and then gets on surfaces or land on people's face. We've known about that for a long time, but a lot of us have suspected that it does something more which is lingers in the atmosphere as well. Well and it turns out not allowed to respiratory viruses. Actually do this easels, does it chicken pox? Virus does and this one almost certainly does this as well, and that's one of the reasons why this is so highly transmissible that high amount of virus, the upper airway and the fact that those particles are released, and so many of those people are without symptoms. So this is what makes it so hard to do. The contact tracing into really manage these epidemics. I? WanNa. Get your view of something. We discussed last night on this program. And that is the the possibility that the real range of possible symptoms is almost unlimited because of the fact that the. Although we think of it as a respiratory of problem, there's also a vascular problem because of the way it seems to get into the bloodstream and those New York Times. Reporter indicating that you could walk into a doctor with just symptoms of feeling, generally bad, and and that could be worthy of Corona virus testing. That's right. There's a huge number of different presentations gastrointestinal presentations prison, presenting coughing and early on in this epidemic we were always told about cough and fever, and that certainly does occur, but the big worrisome one now is the fact that we know this virus binds to certain receptors on the cells, lining blood vessels, and this is causing blood clots warm, so you're seeing pulmonary embolism. You're seeing strokes. You're seeing heart attacks, and that's happening because this virus induces blood clots in the coronary artery, and so one of the big concerns now is, we're people with sudden deaths at. At home people maybe in the early stages of this illness, and this is one of the reasons why so terrifying when the President says ninety nine percent of the cases are harmless, is just not true, and we need to step up our game in the US in terms of interrupting community transmission, the number of cases is going up and up and up forty thousand last week than fifty thousand. Now it's going to be over sixty thousand towards the end of this week with no end in sight so with this epidemic tragically a spiraling out of control right now. and Dr, who does the way you described that? Possibility of sudden death at home would also be a one of the reasons why the death count is, so it is understated in our statistical analysis of it so far. Yeah absolutely, and we're trying to tease out exactly. All of the ramifications we know for instance uncertain about a sudden deaths from covid nineteen. The other thing that happens is when covert night team strikes that community. The people don't take care of themselves. They're reluctant to go to the doctor with symptoms because they're worried of our contracting Cova Nineteen, so we think that may be a component of it as well l., but it's a lethal combination in so many undiagnosed cases, so we're. We're going to get her better handle lot in the coming months, but for now this is a serious and deadly infection.

Coronavirus and the impact on airline industry

"Not looking good for Virgin Atlantic. Yes so they announced yes to that. Cutting third of the workforce lots more than three thousand jobs. They've also said that they're going to be exiting Gatwick. Which has been its London base for thirty five years? They are still maintaining that base up in Manchester And this company had already actually been struggling with profitability for several years. So it's perhaps not surprising that they're really facing issues now. The government refused to Baylor saying that I haven't looked hard enough. Other investors elsewhere in the line is basically said that it's now fighting for its survival and that more measures might have to be introduced in the coming months and years and I think the story shows a few things it really shows that the week affirms a feeling the effects fast in an industry aviation industry which is struggling as a whole. And then there's also the knock on effect on airports Gatwick received a COUPLA recently. Be a Saturday causing flights out of their needs. Airports really depend on airlines for these lucrative slots so this is going to be a big problem to several people up and down the chain but there is good news for Wizar- Yes a Wiza- which is one of the airlines which has proved surprisingly buoyant. They managed to keep a large amount of cash surplus which has helped to tide them over during this crisis. And they're actually already. They've already resumed. Flights from Luton to some eastern European countries mainly bringing the seasonal farmworkers for example they brought over about hundred people lost Friday and they will announce that they're going to be resuming flights to Greece and Portugal from around June July to start tentatively taking holidaymakers abroad. They said that they will stop obviously wearing gloves. And now handout mosques to people that they haven't said that they'll be keeping that middle aisle seat free If if there is enough demand to finit they said that there just isn't evidence that that will reduce the risk of Jumps being spread. I mean we're seeing lots of airlines for instance. Klm saying that That they will be saying that. Mosque wearing is absolutely mandatory. But it's hard to see Without that middle seat being taken out how social distance thing. An and virus control can happen on aeroplanes effectively. Yeah I completely agree I mean on one hand. You are just got your. You have people in fairly close quarters in an airplane. The airplanes not going to be redesigned overnight people all within a mutual two of each other. Anyway I think a lot of it will center around. Different cleaning. Practices was the not going to have the magazine. For example so fewer and fewer touch points for people to transmit things and regular cleaning processes and staff updated on those sort of procedures Right well with the with airlines ca beginning to fly again. Airbnb is seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. Tell us more about that. Yes this is an interesting one because AIRBNB They started out their financials. And it's not looking great actually for the company that cussing about twenty five percent of the workforce and their revenues predicted to hard this year. So that's sir drop of about two billion. And but they have said that they they're starting to see a tends to rise in domestic booking so obviously international travel is still looking shaky and wizards one of the few people and Kalamazoo said to start offering this flights but in places like Denmark and the Netherlands. For example people are starting to look into kings and make bookings to travel and holiday within their own country. And I think this ties in with a trend that we're going to be seeing a lot sort of rise of the staycationing this year as people pass aren't quite sure if they're ready to get on a flight or take an international holiday but they do still want to have a break they do still want to get away from from home so this this works with something that airbnb has already been seeing in China which is obviously ahead of the curve a bit from Europe where people are starting to travel domestically and take holidays within the country. Those name quite a little publicity around the fact that there are very cheap. Airfares out there at the moment. And also very cheap hotel bookings But it comes down to what the insurance policy is because we can book holidays abroad or indeed at home But we may very well may have to cancel them exactly. I think there's still so much uncertainty for people you know. I think people are desperate for holiday. It's been it's been really difficult. Few months vote for Europeans and for people all over the world. But it's just not clear whether for example be another spike in cases in your home country or the country where you're going to whether there's lockdown measures will change we'll more travel bans be brought in so. I think people are still waiting to see how things pan out in the next few months.

Pfizer Begins Human Trials of Possible Coronavirus Vaccine

"Pfizer and its partner Germany bio and tech have begun delivering doses of their experimental coronavirus vaccines for human testing in the U. S. Dr Peter Hotez is dean of medicine at the Baylor college of medicine he says this testing will involve many people and take time and ultimately will involve thousands of individuals per vaccine candidate and when you start talking about fifteen or twenty candidates you can see that the numbers go on pretty quick that takes time to collect takes time to analyze and that's what I'm a little worried about not rushing things that's why I don't like when people started saying by the end of this year or using these science fiction metaphors like operations were speeded implies that we're doing something on toward doing something that's rush Pfizer says if the vaccine proved to be safe and effective in trials it could be ready for U. S. distribution by the end of the year which is much faster than the usual development

NFL Draft & Post-Spring Top 25 (without spring football)

"Why don't we turn our attention? Bruce to the players who will be back in college in. Twenty Twenty On Tuesday I released my spring top. Twenty five a little different this year because usually the reason you put it out the last week. April is that everybody's completed spring practice and we use some of the insights we've gleaned from that to update the rankings. I did the morning after title game. Obviously we did not. So why did you put it out this time? Because people love rankings? Remember the the one up morning after the national title game. We didn't yet know who was going to turn pro. We didn't get there have been head. Coaching changes that happened after that game like Matt Rule Even Baylor certainly lots and lots of coordinator changes. Transfer Portal guys I'm not saying that it drastically altered the lineup by any means. But you know there's you you have more info certainly than you did The morning after the national title game so the hardest team to rank is the one we just talked about a little while ago. Lsu because on the one hand they just had this dominant season and we know their program that recruits well so there's going to be able to reload but on the other hand fourteen guys a lot and To replace fourteen guys that were drafted. Some of those very very high draft picks most notably Joe Borough and generally speaking. I look back at some of the teams that had a huge number like that. Almost always there is a drop off. The next year might not be a severe drop off so the question is okay. I had them number five. I believe The day after the title game I dropped them to eight now. It's not like something bad happened between then and now have some you know. We didn't know who his new coordinator is going to be at that point that didn't really factor into it. I just find it hard to believe you can lose that many guys and come back the next year in win the SEC again. What surprised me a little bit? When I looked I was like wait. You drop them down. They actually like Djibril Cox's it was considered by lot of people as the top Grad transfer linebacker in the country and he ended up going there which is which is interesting to see how fit in going from North Dakota state which obviously wins national titles every year till she was just one one so I was a little surprised at okay. The probably the the one area on their defense. That was a question mark. They showed up from the time. You'd sign there but I don't disagree with you. Having them eight. I mean to me. The biggest loss is going to be jober. I mean he had the greatest quarterback anybody greatest quarterback season anybody's ever had in college football. And you know I know. Miles Brennan has a strong arm. That's about all we know right and so nine Oh yes good receivers Tamar Chase as the best receiver. He would have been the best fever in this draft. He's back but they got to replace basically three. And a half starters on the offensive line and they gotta replace Clyde. That's a lot and so to have them eighth. I don't think that's I don't think that's like eye-popping I was like. I said I was a little surprised that you you drop them Just in time from that but I think that could probably be as much relative. Yeah it wasn't because of anything that it wasn't anything that happens since January in. You're right that was a big pickup In terms of Djibril Cox Just recently that morning that it went up and I'll actually for being honest. I wrote it the day of the game. it's you just get a little distance from that and I mean it could be a very wide range of possibilities probably more than most teams in there. The ceiling in the floor is probably a pretty wide range. They wouldn't be. It wouldn't be shocking to me. If I think they're still gonNA be really good on defense. I think you would agree especially up front on the defensive line. You've got probably the best cornerback in the country extinguisher. You've got to Kobe. Steven's coming back. They should be really good still on defense. It's the Joe Borough factor. It's the offensive line. It's replacing Clyde like those are big questions but if they can answer those questions and maybe they're right back in the playoff and if they can't maybe there number eight maybe they go seven and five like there's such a wide range of possibilities with them. The thing that probably surprised me the most about your updated one was really jumped Texas. A&m High move them up seven spots. So what changed? Or what sunk into you that made you feel like I'm I'm going all in on the aggies pretty much well for one thing. I'm a big believer in bill. Connolly's rankings as you know and sometimes we default to Okay they were. They had this record last year and they returned this many stars. Therefore I'm GonNa slot them here but obviously there's more to the story in terms of how much talent do they have? And I think an last year might have had a much different record if they didn't have to play Alabama Clemson and Georgia which is just an insane insane schedule. Their record reflected Bills PRESEASON SP plus rankings. Texas is tenth I don't have them quite that high. Obviously

"So it seems like all of these things could totally go the wrong way? You know a coach being too competitive or literally smacking an assistant coach and making players smack each other. Why so many people continue to love this guy? I think it's a genuine niceness about him and the reason we've been number one is excuse me for the coffee is because we've been able to focus on each and you don't think of a basketball coach usually as a nerdy guy right like usually. They're tough students. Demand toughness and rule with an iron fist. But that's not schedule. He's he's a little different. He would fit right into. Leave it to beaver. Scott drew has a pretty interesting background. He's from a very well known basketball family. His father homer drew is a legend Valparaiso. Indiana you know took that program and made it nationally known back in when his son. Bryce was playing for them and you know ran the play to win at the Buzzer against old miss. It's a play. You see an allotment in basketball now where they throw it deep and the big bang catches it and and in one motion catches in pitches it to a guard and then drives hit the shot to beat Ole Miss. It's jackets it's one of the most famous shots I think in basketball and Bryce played in the NBA played for the Bulls. And Yeah so it's A. It's a well known basketball family and it seems like maybe the main thing that defines Scott drew is his relentless self belief and a heavy dose of optimism. And that's why People Love College basketball. That's why coaches lose their hair and But Anyway I'll sleep located night. Thank goodness for that mystery. It's holding up pretty well up top. You're you got some pretty good coverage all we mentioned this. This is the second time you've been and it seems like that. Self Belief led him to a coaching position that very few people would have accepted. Cj can you just take back to what happened with the Baylor Basketball Program back in two thousand and three? Dave Bliss was the coach and Patrick Dennehy and Carlton. Dotson were two of his players and they bought weapons and would go and practice firing these weapons and some point. Dotson got mad at didn't he and murdered him the murder of Baylor basketball player. Patrick Dennehy is one of the most tragic stories in sports. It's a bizarre story. And then once you get toward you know Patrick being murdered it gets even crazier because of the attempt to cover up that ensues dove blessed. That had Patrick. Dennehy key was not on scholarship and Dave. Bliss was basically paying for his tuition. Dave Bliss after all this came out to try to like covered up told family members of another player to lie to investigators. He told his team to lie about saying that the Patrick and he was a drug dealer. And that's how he was paying for his tuition was with his drug money and basically any which way you can screw up a program. Dave was cheating behind the scenes and then with this situation just handled it as poorly as you can like. You should be remorse seeing what happened and checking on everybody and he was basically just trying to save his butt and so the NCAA came in and gave Baylor as tough a penalty as you will ever see in terms of recruiting restrictions. And one thing that they did that. I'm not sure I've ever seen with another power. Five program is bailer. Couldn't even play non conference games in the two thousand five two thousand six season. This is a basketball program that nobody wanted to touch at that time except me. He's got drew. What is he told you about why he wanted that job? He's a very religious person and I think the religious component of the school was probably something that pulled him there. I really felt when you go there and I mean I knew it was going to be a process. I didn't know we beyond probation as long as we're on probation in no we would only get a half season one year but at the same time mean. We feel that go somewhere. You're worried about anything like that. You as going and his father homer told me. I don't think there's ever been a worse situation to go into. But this goes back to Scott's competitiveness and like one of his assistants. Told me at one point. If you want Scott to be passionate about wanting to do something you just gotTa tell him. He can't do it and so I'm sure anyone that Scott talked to about that job at the time was probably saying Scott like wait man like your career is on a good trajectory. You are doing a good job at Valpo. You Help Your Dad. Build that program way and another job is gonNA come. Don't take this one. And that's probably all he needed to hear. And how did he go about rebuilding that team? Both start with recruiting and and Scott has always been a really really good recruiter. He felt like there were plenty of guards in Texas and there. I mean he was right. I mean there's so much talented Texas. He felt like he could get enough enough guards. Texas to have town tobacco roots even if he wasn't getting the first options right and then early on. He was recruiting big men from overseas. That was kind of his his idea. And then eventually. He got to the point where he was recruiting. Mcdonald's all Americans with it put it down to spin baseline score by a big time in recruiting some big time talents. Once they got it rolling follow jammed for Baylor.

"So you've had a number of chances to sit down with Baylor head. Coach Scott drew first of all. How does he like to get his players? Hyped up any number of creative ways. He had one of his assistants. Go out and buy a like metal trash can and he would have him bang the trash. Can I like noise? The speed with which he says his his words and gets his guys charged up it's something to behold and something to see. My energy can be a strength also wrote people the wrong way at times when they want to be the lifestyle. You calm down early. In his time at Baylor he felt like his guys. They were just kinda down before not really charged up like you wanted him to. So he had the guys lineup. On two different sides there was an assistant coach lined up across him any reached back any smacked him in the face in. This coach was from Pittsburgh. Kind of a a tough dude. Right was like Whoa. What was that like? He stuck his hands up like he was ready to to fight. So Scott told him slapped me back so he slapped him back and then he told everybody on the team at the guy in front of you in this slap them back I mean with generations say change. Yeah I mean nowadays. You can't slap chop wait. When's the last time.

"Yeah I I don't get it either. I hear what you're saying. Yeah so there's that and then on. Baylor two thousand twenty being one of the best teams that they've ever played perhaps the best thing they've ever played since he's been in the big twelve. I think the other teams you brought up with last season's Texas Tech and two thousand Oklahoma state which was an awesome team. They all and big and strong. I remember two thousand and four. I was the Memphis beat writer at the Commercial Appeal newspaper. And that's Memphis had to play in the second round of the incident. Play tournaments. I was. I saw it team up close and they just whip them. I mean just absolutely made them look like a high school team. It was Tony Allen Grizzly. And My home. Eta Joey Gr- the Graham brothers. John Lucas Ivan McFarland. Like that team was awesome. And the idea that bill would put this Baylor team in that class. And I'm with you. I don't think it's lip service. I think he he knows what he's and I thought all of bills postgame stuff was interesting. He said listen we. We won the game here. We beat them awesome. But we didn't control this game. Nearly as well as they can they controlled us when we were plated inside Allen fieldhouse like they beat us. They're better than we beat them. Here he was real complimentary. This Baylor team and I think it's because he knows that he might have the best team in the country but he knows if he does that might be the second best team in the country and it could be vice versa. I yeah they they are really right there and I'll note fan base showed well They they didn't get the full Game Day experience because Game Day was bumped up right against the start of the game. But they were they were revved in going man just a big time game instead of a smaller like ten and change that place holds territorial arena but it was it was really really good like a great great on TV a little TV. All the better than yeah. No it was fantastic and I had a number of people. Just come up and say yeah. It's just it's never like this and it's ever been as good as it is right here. Scott drew I did sit down with him the day before. Prep for the game but just kind of other stuff to do a story. Assume on him Once we get to March and Baylor's seated well and he is credited Scott and just he was loose thrilled. You know you get an opportunity like this and if you opt to Kinda just grip a little bit focus in. I totally get it. But that was not the program they just you know. Game Day was obviously in town as well and they. They fully embraced the opportunity. And I think that was great. I don't think it cost him the game. You don't know the next time you're ever going to be in a situation like this if you're the Baylor men's basketball program. If you're the women sure Kim Mulkey the fastest six hundred wins ever in Division One basketball period and so there's a certain standard there that they're meeting on an almost every year basis. Baylor has been good. It was ranked number one just a few years ago. It's made a couple of dates but you don't know the next time that you will be number one and hosting another top five team so credit to the school that coaching staff Athletic Director. All them for really stepping up and providing a heck of a heck of a game I did want to ask you this parish so for me like wake up. You're there you're right like it was. It was good. But what did you like it in the moment because we talked on the Friday pot? Oh it's great you got Gonzaga. Byu End of the day. You got cans. Baylor started the day. We almost never get this kind of thing within the rhythm of Saturday like did you. Did you like what college basketball provided to a national audience to get the rare MUSC- five matchup that earlier. Do you think it would have been better served if it was a middle afternoon early evening. The only reason why I ask you this is when I saw bill self get to shoot around on Friday. He was excited and knew what was good for college hoops. But if it was just later on you know it might be even better if you put it in the evening. The reason they couldn't do that with the women had a game later in the day and they couldn't move it but I just wondered from from the couch how it all played out to you and As you took the day in well. If I'm being honest I was on. Cbs Sports HQ. For like five hours. I stared into a camera for five hours. But it didn't know undeniably. It would have been a big deal if it were in primetime or maybe not even primetime like if it just started at six eastern five eastern just later in the day I think it would have been there would have been more of a build up. You know people sort of live in the moment like you and I we. It's our job. We live this stuff every minute of every day. Most people you you you don't you don't look pretty if you're not a baylor fan or a Kansas Fan or Harper College Basketball Fan. You're not sitting around on Thursday going. Ooh I can't wait for Saturday because it's number one against number three like you might not even know that that's happening in sport of college basketball and so if that game would have been. Let's just say tipping off. At six eastern people would have been watching other games all day long and they would have been constantly hearing about this game. It's number one against number three. It's a twenty three game winning streak against the Kansas Jayhawks would have been the build up on the day of would have made it feel like a bigger thing and so i. I think that that's true but you know it is what it is you know when they schedule that game at eleven. Am central time. There's no reason to think it's going to be number one against number. Three and number one is Baylor on a twenty three game winning streak. Nope yeah so it. It is what it is but I do think I personally enjoy it because it's like okay. Wake up top. Twenty five and one's filed. We got big. Time Basketball Games starting. Let's go but do I think we could have brought in more casual fans if the game were later in the day. Of course I hear you. I loved it being that early. And it's also a great thing as you know like when you get an early game and then Just in terms of writing when you got to write off of it You get that done now. I happen to just. I flew back Late Saturday night to get back home. You know. Get a night in in your own bed. You're going to do that but from Waco back to NYC. I so what we did was we drove so you can do a number of ways but I wanted to direct so we drove. I flew Dallas and then Liz Edwards whose HQ producer. Who was there with me? Did Wonderful Job The entire weekend. She's great by the legitimately great legitimately great. And what I love about her. Let me tell you what. I love about liquid. She doesn't really know these college basketball coaches like so. She's not starstruck or intimidated. She'll see Mike. Francesca and she'll be like is that. Is that Mike and you go. Yes Coach K. Right and you're like yeah coach case. He's like all right. I'm GonNa work on this like she's really a like her job is to get things done. And she has no hurdles right her in whatever she's trying to get done and then she she's on time she is She's she just great and I love we were at CBS Sports Classic. And we were supposed to be getting the Kansas people the Kansas people. We supposed to get in bill south and she had got over there earlier than I because I had to go do something else. I I'M GONNA go there set up and figure out what we're GONNA do and where we're going to do it by time. I got over there. She just she's already like okay so talk to do you. Know Curtis Curtis towns. And she's like yeah. I talked to Kurt. It's so what are you doing targeted courtesy but like she saw somebody Kansas shirt. So that's the person who's going to talk to? She's terrific continue. She is great and she was. She was the one that took the reins around the car so flew into Dallas. And that's about an hour. Forty five to two hours depending on Your time of Day drove down to Waco and eight at Magnolia table shafts to chip and Joanna. They legitimately great spot. They're amazing breakfast. And it was just ending the biscuits shouts to the people. There that was awesome. And actually that was like header. Family members like wanting photos and sending texts. Because it like a whole a whole big deal and So that was good time so then yeah we drove back back to Dallas. After on on Saturday afternoon then I got the direct from Laguardia to Laguardia. And we don't need to make it a whole thing on the podcast that Texas you in the group chat but the the ride service situation at Laguardia is an abomination. And I don't understand how it's even legal parish knows this because he's going to live it again on Monday night when he lands at. Lga You are walking a half mile to a full mile. Dodging traffic going through parking. Garages going up. Garages trying to guess which car it's going to be. It's New York so it's not a typical lifted uber situation. All of them are black. You don't know which one's yours. You gotta read the license plate in the same different combination of sixteen different digits or letters there. It's just absurd and when you land and it's late and you just want to get home and they're like you need to go downstairs then walk outside then over the crosswalk then walk over to that parking garage then go up the garage. Then Walk to the other side. It's it can't be the only airport where this is the case so I had to. I had to get it off my chest eventually I did get. I've been living that every Monday for years now they CBS CBS sports network. They have a car service for us. It's Blue Line so blue line car service. They'll come pick us up and that's the way it's been for years but sometimes my flights delayed my flights late. Sometimes I get to the airport and I want to sit down and work at the airport because I'll just go into the land and go to the Delta Sky Club and like I'll just work there before I go into Manhattan and and get to my hotel so I decided this season like. Listen I appreciate you guys get in the car for me but it probably costs three hundred dollars and I can get uber for sixty and I also would rather have the freedom of getting a car whenever I wanted as opposed to a car waiting on me. 'cause sometimes at land and I don't WanNa leave the airport immediately. I WANNA landed in work and so season I said listen. Just forget the car service and I'll I'll uber from the airport to to my hotel. It's not a big deal like who who do I think I am. And so they're like cool and so now. I have to do what you do every Monday. And.

"Leaky Black Matt. Norlander is here with me and I never said. I was great at predicting. Thanks I just said I could talk for an hour about whatever nonstop no problem you know when you're sitting inside on Sunday watching Games doing h. q. The mind begins to Wander and Waco. I'm doing alright dead. Limb duo back at a buddy how you doing on the Sunday night. I'm great. Let me tell you something. I learned a long time ago before I became radio. Podcast and television star in that You don't have to be right. You just have to sound right at the time. And whatever happens at the At the time being the key part of that phrase right there just poking a little bit of fun because I know you can take it and that was just after the San Diego state loss and I'm flying back across the country after Kansas Baylor which are of course we're GONNA get to in a second here but the stream is loading but I'm thinking. Gp was so in on his ass. Tech's and then I just thought you know what? Yeah he also he had Concetta go winning for sure. He had Kansas losing. And so then I began to think about that. And so there we go. I'm not by the way. Listen I enjoy doing that and I hope the listeners like it as well but I can't keep doing this myself an hour and a half like building something like that. I had the time figured I might as well do it and Yes since since you mentioned by the way coming off the weekend did happen to go foreign one. Gpa Two and three with our final four and one but but there we go biggest game at the weekend obviously. Baylor Kansas giving us a great one and K winding up winding up with winning. Now number one overall. It was a rough week for all of the things that I love like my Aztecs and my zags in my Scott drew very few things went right by me because we get in fact Sitting here last night while he was in studio a CBS sports network. And he and I have been going back and forth about San Diego State all season. He's been consistent. They're going to lose and probably twice before selection Sunday and the whole time. I've been saying they're not going to lose. And then my most recent adjustment or addition to they're not going to lose according to Kim Palm. Naveh not supposed to lose so they're not even supposed to lose anymore and so of course last night when they lose who lost I San Diego State. Did they did? Yeah so then. He was calling me Kim Palm. Nari tweet Ni. I mean texted me. Hakin Palm Nerd Aztecs. Doing and I still got my zags. Don't don't get to got armies in the Ukraine. Yeah so you thought. Because he was he was also like that. Gonzaga is going to lose before selection Sunday. And so of course then Gonzaga. I can't even sit here and enjoy the the Tyson fury deontay wilder fight without a text barrage from. Walis calling me a number nine so it was. It was a rough weekend. For all of my favorite things. My Aztecs my legs and my Scott Druze and just a wild weekend in college basketball. In general as noted San Diego State had its twenty six game. Winning streak snapped by. Unlv ZAG ahead. It's nineteen game. Winning streak snapped by Byu. And we're going to get to both of those things. I promise but I do want to start with what happened inside. Territorial ARENA DOWN IN WACO Texas because it was as norlander say the biggest game of the weekend perhaps. The biggest game of the season chip was there. Joanna was there. Dead-leg was there and they were all treated to a tremendous college basketball game. That wasn't decided until the last shot missed until the last buzzer sounded final score. Canes of Sixty Four Baylor Sixty one norlander. Didn't have it exactly right but pretty close pretty close so the bears twenty three game. Winning streak is no more Jayhawks. Winning streak is up to twelve games. These teams are now number one number two in the updated top twenty five and one. They're both thirteen. And one of the big twelve with four regular season games remaining norlander you were inside the building. The arena that the legend. Tt built to Kansas Baylor in person. Live up to the hype. And did you watch in person? The Nation's best two teams play John. I've gotTA think so. Gp IT DID. Live up to the hype. Got Some got a number of shots up. Inside Terry Teagle arena on dairies. Done court there on Friday Ahead of time after After our podcast in fact that was one of the more surreal spots. I've ever recorded a podcast by the way I was in this. Tiny tiny tiny coach's locker room Really good game amazing environment hottest ticket. You had people that have been there forever saying this is the hottest ticket in the history of the building which is to be expected. When Baylor's writing its longest win streak in school history and they're never been a big twelve team that won twenty three straight games so that was terrific. I WANNA give a shout to Sam Taylor Nice and early actually. Had someone come over and asked me to sign a pair of shoes. Devoted podcast listener found me and his green pair of Nikes. I don't know they're worthless now but SAM. You are a devoted podcast. Let's say he was actually the man in the photo. You Re tweeted. He had the Terry Teagle sign then. the woman with them The student had the I heart. Al Ahli Rodman Shine so that is who that was and There there is a photo evidence of it. So that will be part of the No context twitter tease when this thing posts but As the came wonderful Game Kansas getting out early was huge. Baylor almost did all those stats and facts on the Friday. Podcast but I thought Kansas getting ahead was significant. Obviously you took as Buki. He was the subject of my column on Saturday night. He had the best game of his career and picked a hell of a time to do so and between him and Devan Dotson. You really saw why Kansas is in the pole position now. Not just for the number one overall seed and it did leap over. Baylor and that obviously leapt over all the other teams. Gp's top twenty five and one is a function of the other team's losing and we can get to more of that just It was it was a a weekend with some interesting results. But I don't know how much the teams that really hurt overall. But I walked away. I impressed with Kansas. All still the same impressed with Baylor because it had not on the floor parish but he wasn't at like full strength the key practice on Friday but it wasn't like a real real practice he had not really been able to to run To its full extent and go in and well over a week so he still needs no three or four days to get back into full shape and I thought Baylor's defense did wealth almost poke through the back door. I mean it was I. Can't it's going to win and all of a sudden turn over. Hit a three this that and the other and then K. U. OPS not to foul on the final play jeered butler. Three does not go in. We avoid overtime. Ku gets the win. And now it's number. It's going to be number one. The polls on Monday. It's number one in the predict metrics number on top twenty five and one number one in the net and your Jayhawks. I think are clearly unfairly considered the front runner to win the twenty twenty national title. Like you said you don't Buki Monster Game. He was eleven thirteen from the field. Twenty three points nineteen rebounds and one of the notes you made in your column is that He. He's dropped twenty pounds of last season. Really changes bodies get the best bodies ever had and you can tell just watching him play. He's garden space a little bit. He's catching lobs. He's been a dominant player for a while. He was a dominant player last season. I think sometimes people either forget or don't realize. Kansas was actually undefeated with him in the lineup. Last season now what people remember is off Kansas. Big Twelve regular season titles snapped. Yeah well they lost Dietrich Lawson was their best player Doak and you made this point is well. My became his most important player and could arguably be the most important player to any team in America now Dayton would maybe argue no. Ob Top or Michigan State. Would maybe argue cash Winston. But either way. He's on the list and last season. When he played they were undefeated they never lost and then they lost him and they were a different team still good but maybe not great and then of course they lost Gerald Vic early in February and then they just became the type of team that could lose in the second round of the NCAA tournament but they get a healthy on different bodied as a Buki this season and he's been terrific. He was at his the best version of himself against Baylor. But he's been terrific much of the season and I do feel I don't know maybe we we've overlooked him and I include myself in this as a legitimate national player of the year candidate. Perhaps perhaps we didn't maybe now. We're just thinking we did because he put up this monster performance on this big stage but there's certainly a case that you can make he's the most important player to Kansas and by extension. Perhaps the most important player to any team in America. And maybe the key to winning a national championship and perhaps The personal accolades should go hand in hand with that. Yeah he did He was on my preseason first team all American and I think I might have been the only one who did that because I thought that he would become a lot of what he showed on Saturday. And that's just. There is no player in college basketball. Doing what does for Kansas anywhere else or anyone who can really truly match up against him because his game has gotten so much better. He's a really good. Defender has great awareness around the rim and then as noted in some stories Your sworn moral enemy Jesse Newell but also good guy. Cj More who do a great job covering Kansas You know bill self added some new wrinkles here into what you do as Yuki was doing in terms of playing defending ball screens and and really slipping off them on the offensive end as well and that led to he had eleven of thirteen shooting and eight of those dunks. I mean he was just an absolute monster there in so couple things that stood out to me after the game. One I did ask self on. Cbs SPORTS HQ if if Doke in and as he refers to him Dot Chiffon Dotson are the best one two Combo he's ever had and I didn't. I didn't ask that lightly or without reverence to some of the great players that come through there but when you look at the fact that they are statistically two of the seven or eight most important players in the sport right now like the question deserves to be asked and he said yes. He said we've had really good talents. But we've never really relied on guys say the way that we are now with how good they both are. And I think that should not be Overlooked the other thing was. This was a wow to me now included in the column as well. Bill Self said that this team is the best team in the big twelve. He's played since he got there and I don't think that is lip service. It's incredible when you look at the teams that have come through the big twelve in the past. The League's been the best league in America. The past six seasons the big ten has that this season but the previous six was the big twelve and I did think that Baylor although it did not win and it was a defensive struggle. I thought it showed itself pretty well like my what I thought of. Baylor was not lessened at all by the loss probably would have been the same just about if it had been able to win now. If it had one it would have been the first time. The schools ever swept Kansas in the same season. But those were a couple things that stood out to me specifically with self and what he said afterward and what was a very fun game physical called. I thought the officiating was was very good there. And you know Baylor made the most of it and what it could and what was a you know a very raucous environments and for an eleven. Am local tip. You know not a lot of food and the Tummy. Obviously you got one meal there. I thought there was a little fatigue at the end on both sides but not so much that it even marred the ending there and I thought that was impressive. I did notice that too in your HQ interview with Bill to two things first on as a bouquet and Dotson maybe the best you know You know guard big right. Oh that he's had. I actually think it is. And he the the the fact that he sort of conceded the point I thought was interesting. Dokan dot sort of sounds like dip dot. So that's yeah and just makes you when you start talking about great guard forward or Great Guard Front Court combinations. Just I know most brothers go to school together like the most wins right Mark Marquee. They both go to Kansas together. Or you had the Hauser's at least initially at Marquette is just I guess I'll if I lived one hundred years I'll never understand. Why HALF BROTHERS? Jalen Carter and killing. Until he didn't go to the same school they could be doing the same thing right now. It's wrong..

"To Baylor Scott white overall and then when we look at the data more broadly that's a hot spot for chronic disease overall so it's not just diabetes also high rates of my particular interest as a kid the doctor are chronic kidney disease high rates of are overweight high rates of are all chronic diseases so that's why we expanded our man I Mandy beyond diabetes to include chronic disease overall you know you mentioned the zip codes in you mention the areas that you're really focused on one can we drove down a little bit more one talk about the community you serve and can you talk a little bit more about a little more detail related to your programs well the communities that we service I mention have high rates of chronic disease and chronic diseases what's really contributing to the health concerns of the nation overall and the data would suggest that communities like ours which are low income highly concentrated in urban largely African American his and Hispanic the the criteria that would predict communities that would have low health care access and high rates of chronic disease so the characteristics of the community that we Sir so let me ask you this do you serve children adolescents adults all do you look at particular age groups that you Sir so we serve primarily adults we have a what we call a tweener first program where we look at middle school a student in an effort to not only address their health needs but more importantly to educate them regarding the importance of nutrition physical activity and having a health care professional connected to them and their family so although we do provide services for that middle school age group is primarily directed at ways by which to get to their families to educate them as to the issues of health that I just described but overall our primary focus is it is adults with chronic disease so let me ask you you mentioned and and we certainly understand the need for a healthy food healthy food as honorable port of as you say not only looking at health but making people have healthy lives do you help educate about food or do you actually help supply healthy food we do both I'm glad you mentioned that so our form stains which we set up yet not only at money to take crap but at three other park and recreation centers and four of local churches that we partner with these forms stance provide us strategically selected produce fresh fruits and vegetables that manage the three primary chronic diseases that we focus upon diabetes overweight and chronic kidney disease so these foods are selected in particular for the management of those diseases and so when our our participants show up at our forms needs they not only get these very low cost strategically selected fresh fruits and vegetables but they also get education asked to their preparation and their selection sold you have diabetes these other foods that work well in helping to manage your diabetes you are overweight these are the foods that provide you with good nutrition and fewer calories and so they get the education and the food so that's why when we talk about our nutrition our program we talk about for vision plus education that's excellent and you know you mentioned also as you work with people and you're and you're looking at the wellness aspect and obesity others but septic wellness type programs and activities you do to work with obesity other than the healthy diet you just mentioned absolutely so the diet is certainly a key component but the increased physical activity is a is a key component to again some folks use that word exercise but when we are talking about moving we're talking about increasing our physical activity so we have various physical activity programs that are based at Juanita J. craft at other park and recreation centers but also add many of the thirty one churches with whom we partner she and so the key for us is not just having them but just a paid in these particular programs on site but to teach them as to how to increase their physical activity in a healthy way outside of our centers and in their homes and in their neighborhoods and then secondarily to educate their families as to how they can move in a healthy way that contributes to improvement up and management of their chronic disease issues you know you mentioned it takes a village so while list knows that a listening how can they get involved how can they help well the village require as is it includes entities outside of Baylor Scott white health outside of the health systems that's part of the innovation of what we do we've had to learn how to partner with other entities thank you so much Dr Weston we appreciate you being on the show and contributing to the human side of healthcare.

"They don't really seem to have too many answers when they come up against certain teams that nature. The biggest test Gonzaga comes early because I do think that they'll probably end up matching up against Syracuse with short rest in the second round. Because I think Syracuse is going to get past Baylor because Baylor true to form being long and athletic. Catch it well from the outside, and basically they they just don't match up well against a team like Syracuse running that two three zone. You know, I at the end of the day. Syracuse should be able to make life difficult for Baylor and move on. And that sets up a very interesting round matchup with Kazakh because I think a two three zone against the conduct. Zylka can actually give them a little bit of difficulty in trying to break down Syracuse zone because they won't see that. All too often. I think they get past Syracuse anyway, but you know. On on the merits of it. I do think the two three zone can give Gonzaga fits because they haven't seen that type of style of play in their own conference. And you know, my my whole thing Gonzaga is because they don't get challenged enough things. Like what happens in the ANSI? They'll torment catches them off guard too often outside of that on paper Gonzaga matches a beautifully in this bracket. It's the problem of I just think that they're going to run into a situation that they can't they weren't able to properly prepare themselves for. Earlier on in the season or in the middle part of season. So we we talked about a Gonzaga talking about the Syracuse Baylor match up. The next match-up is the five twelve matchup, which is the most entertaining five twelve matchup..

That's why Georgia's getting seventy five percent of the money. Okay. Look Kentucky can stop the run Kentucky. They might forget to run their guy can run the ball. But they better not forget to run Snell. If they do they're going to lose by. Yeah. I know. I'm going to give you guys one lose Baylor is a bad football team fails getting seven and a half this week against Oklahoma state.
