"Something happened. My hands ever leave the. I'll tell you what, after that, we all need a refresher, a refreshment, I should say. We will take a short break and we are coming right back. You are listening to the Paul fine bomb Joe podcast. Welcome back and you want to give us a ring. We're open for business and the phone number is 855-242-7285 quite an afternoon. We've already had with a number of really great guests, including hindon hooker. So let's check out lakeisha up next. Good afternoon to you. Hi, how are you doing, Paul? We're doing great. I just want to say that I believe that Spencer Rattler is one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC returning. And I also think that hand and hooker is one of the most underrated draft picks right now. I think he should be at least the first round. You know, a lakeisha, I think he's going to go in the first round, which is pretty amazing when you consider where he had been originally projected, but the injury did not dissuade anyone. I think what he did, both on the field and off the field, he is playing large right now for him. Right. Right. Well, it's good to hear from you. Thank you very, very much. Gary is in Georgia. Hello, Gary. Hey, Paul, can you hear me? I sure can. Thank you for the call. Yes, sir. I'm a first time caller. I listened to watch your show over this in my first time. But I thought I would win the masters going on this weekend. And I wanted to ask you, what do you know about this Vanderbilt sophomore sensation Gordon Sargent that's been invited by yeah, he is, I know a lot about him from friends of mine in Alabama. He's sensational. I think I believe he won the NCAA individual last year, he is struggling today over there and what's interesting that you bring up amateurs, Sam Bennett, who plays a Texas a and M is currently right off the leaders. He's four under par. I believe a Gordon is a couple of over par, but that can change tomorrow, but the people that I know in Birmingham say he could be one of the greatest young golfers to come on the scene in a long time. Now, he has one here in Thomas and Jordan, he has family that used to live here in some it still appears so he's been kind of like a local celebrity here and we're pretty excited about it and that he see competing against the pros. He received an invitation based on his amateur success and I'm sure some of the NCAA success, I read a story today that they have the putt, what's it called? The putt didn't drive competition over there for young people. Like 16 and under. And he was over there on the weekend and somebody. Thought he was there for that. And he said, no, I'm here for the real tournament. They looked at him like he was crazy because he was obviously a teenager. But he played on Monday, practice round with Justin Thomas, another Alabama who went to Alabama, of course. And he's had quite a week over there, but right now, the conversation is really about his compatriot, Gordon Sargent, who's on the leaderboard right now. But thank you very much for the call. Amateurs usually fare pretty poorly. The pressure is just so intense to play, but I say that somewhat in past tense. The one thing about young golfers today is for same for quarterbacks. It's the same for basketball players. What they've experienced at 18 or 19 is unlike anything that their parents or grandparents dealt with on a competitive level that there is so much the intensity of the preparation at a young age in all sports. It's just a pure fact. Let's check in with Trey, who is up next, a hello Trey go right ahead. Hey, Paul. What a great interview with hindon hook, or you know what I like about your interviews with players like that. You get kind of know them a little bit more personal than instead of just a personal in the field. But that was an amazing interview with hooked. And I wish nothing but the best of luck. I got a question for you about a few callers if I may. As JK called in this week, have we heard from the band behind you? I believe he's been a no show. Yeah, well, you know, that happened when you get beat after you run your mouth. And Paul, whatever happened to Daryl from Georgia. Did I miss something when I was gone? I hadn't heard from him in months. I think Daryl based on social media posts and that's always dangerous to put too much credibility on that. I believe he's decided to move on from the program. He said in one post, he doesn't need the show. He's not defined by what he does here. So he pulled a gym on you. Is that what you're telling me? But Paul, you know, it was a little worse than that. Oh, lord. Well, Paul, there's two callers, and I hope they're living listening. I sure wish they had called more often less DJ K dove in Charleston real town. They were iconic callers and I'd love to hear from them, but I want you to correct me if I'm wrong about something that auggie said yesterday. And I usually don't disagree with anything, August says, but did he say yesterday you got to turn the TV up when Jeff from Columbus calls? I mean, turn it up, are you kidding me? As soon as Jeff calls, he turns it up, and then the second he starts screaming, he turns it back down. Oh, okay. Okay. And then one other thing called, the guy that called in from Indiana is a Texas fan. If I'm not mistaken, Texas had won the big 12 since 2018, I think. And they can't even make the playoffs in the big 12. And I'm just not so sure if they understand what it's like, especially on the road every weekend in the SEC. I just don't think people understand, not just the talent, but the crowd and the atmosphere, and it is. Listen, Texas has had a miserable time in the big 12. I mean, they've lost everywhere they've been Texas tech, Baylor, Oklahoma state. Exactly. Yeah. The only thing you can it's convoluted, but I'll lay it on you anyway. They believe that by being in the SEC, they'll recruit better. I think that's evidenced by arch Manning going there. Would he have gone there if they weren't going into the SEC? I think they just, they just feel that everything is going to change. I don't know if that's an addition by subtraction. I don't know how to describe it, because it would not get you a good grade in a philosophy class. If you were trying to use logic to make your point, but it's where they are at the moment. Yes, sir. Well, I totally agree with you. Thank you for taking my call. I hope you have a great day. Thank you. Good to hear from you. Let's continue and Calvin is up next in South Carolina. Hello, Calvin. Go right ahead. A little ball, how are you doing today, buddy? Calvin, we are great. Will I spoke with the last year on Valentine's Day and we're talking about my brother Susan and Chester didn't realize I got on and talking to you for them listening to your game to follow out in Washington state and Jackson Tennessee. But I told him to look at and I'm just thinking that one major he was just underrated and he's been on the radio, but I think he's going to be there super strong quarterback once he gets in the NFL and the way that hypo has got our team down there.

"Just winning percentage wise and the exact tiebreakers, I'd have to check on the ACC just adopted that for this year. And the pack 12. And I think the day ten wants to as well, I don't know the exact tiebreakers for each league, but in each case it's going to be something that I think is a little bit controversial for each league. And you alluded to this in your piece in years past it very well could have happened. I remember 2013, maybe even 20 I know 2013, there may have been another year or two where you have the iron bowl on Thanksgiving weekend. Or some other combination. And then you'll have the exact same game the next week. Yes, that's and you kind of see that a little bit with the big 12 too where you've had some of those Baylor Oklahoma state or Baylor home of games that get repeated because the big 12 hasn't had divisions. So they've had a few instances of that. It's certainly could happen in the SEC with the way things will be and you can have a third. I mean, you might have a case where two teams play each other in a regular season. They play each other and the SEC championship game and if things kind of fall the right way, they could play each other in a 12 team playoff too. So that's different. Nick Saban has been asked about it. What he thinks is that he kind of pointed to the NFL because he, when he coached for the browns, he said, we used to play the Steelers twice every year. We played them three times one year. And I think they lost all three times, one of those years in the early 90s. So it's not uncommon in sports, obviously, to play a team twice. I don't think it's the end of the world, but it different than what we're used to and sort of these regular season games, meaning so much because it's the only time you see that team. Mike, I just think we remember we were talking about the 80s and basketball Dale Brown. I remember I believe it was 1980 there I go again in either 86 or 87, Alabama played Kentucky twice in the regular season, SEC SEC tournament and I believe it was a sweet 16. I think they lost all four. Yeah. Basketball, obviously there's more opportunity for that. And college football, the schedule keeps expanding, we could see more than 12 teams in the playoff one day. And I think that's only going to increase the chances of team seeing each other twice. But yeah, in terms of the iron bowl, you could have an iron bowl and Tuscaloosa and maybe auburn makes the playoffs and they're hosting Alabama in the first round of the playoffs. A couple of weeks later, which is just completely foreign to kind of what we've come to expect down here where it's that one day out of the year that becomes a holiday, now it might be twice. That's certainly within a realm of possibility here. Mike, in other words, if you're old school, you better enjoy this year because next year, everything will be turned upside down. Thanks for reminding us of how crazy things are about to get. Always good to talk to you. You got it. Thank you. Thank you. A great piece here. In AL dot com about what is to come. And by the way, it's not down the road. It's next year. We'll take a short break. We'll get to your phone calls right after this. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. We are back here on this president's day, busy show so far. AC is up next. My mom, thank you so much for taking my call. Thank you. Absolutely. Well, first of all, I want to wish all the best food gym from Tuscaloosa. Even the last marriage, everybody, if you're not healthy, how am I supposed to smash you every single day? So I hope this man is doing well. I hope you give us a good update, great update. Sometimes this week because I want to hear from the gentleman, take a motivate me more to smash him again and again. So my question is, for you, mister flying bomb, in your opinion, what would you do to speed up college football and do you speed it up a little bit more? And here's another

"Oh 73 FM and am 5 80 Orlando's news and talk as we head toward the 20th anniversary of 9 11, Please join us for the tunnel to towers five K walk and run it is this Saturday, September 11th at Crane's Roost Park in Altamonte Springs. Just tap the tunnel to towers button in the wdbo app too. Register. Will UCF officially submitted its application to join the Big 12 conference yesterday. Leaks. President set to meet tomorrow to approve admission of U C. F. The University of Houston University of Cincinnati and BYU. Of the four schools Houston in Cincinnati had already applied to join the big 12. You see up becoming the latest follow suit. BYU is expected to do so today. If things move forward as planned, these four schools will join the big 12 by 2023 or at the very latest 2024. It could happen earlier than that. You don't know. If you're not a sports fan, okay, to put this into perspective. This is kind of and and and this is kind of like if you want to join an elite golf club, But they won't let you in for one reason or another. And you get the call one day saying, Okay, you're in it. It's a really bad example. But This is what you see. It has been waiting for for years for for for years upon years to be a member of the college sports fraternity, the good Old boy network if you will, because it's in that fraternity that all the money is made. It's in that fraternity where the TV networks do their business. It's in that fraternity where they offer the easiest path to the college football playoff. Now it's great news for you. CF. But is there a danger here? You bet there is You bet there is And and remember, I don't know what? Maybe a decade ago, UCF joined the Big East and you see, I thought, Okay, well, we finally made the big time We are in a conference that's going to get us to the BCS. Well, guess what The Big East was no more very, very soon, Leaving you CF out in the cold once again, and you do wonder if this is going to happen. The Big 12 conference and UCF yet again. Because the big 12 is losing its anchor schools Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC. Now you look at the big 12 ago. Okay? What's the anchor school right now? Like, what is the the Marquis School in the big 12? In terms of college football. Baylor. Oklahoma State, Oklahoma State, West Virginia. Oh, the West Virginia all pretty decent, but not right. Right? Right. Like not an anchor like not there's no Texas or Oklahoma. There. Um So so it look, it's a major conference without an anchor school. So there is a danger here for UCF that once you get into the big 12 Those those powers that be the few people who run college sports go. Yeah. You know what? Big 12. I'm sorry We're going to take your ball and throw it away. But they are going to be trying to make this move happened before the Texas Oklahoma moved to the SEC. That's supposed to be 2025. Now, as you said, these things could get pushed up earlier. Who knows what will happen? But if that happens that would give you CF and these new newcomers a chance to Play against Texas and Oklahoma. And maybe that will actually show that you know. I'm not going to say all four of these teams will be good as Texas and Oklahoma. But if one of those four teams can give Texas Oklahoma specific local will run for their money, then it could elevate the conference. A little bit gives you more key, right? No doubt it gives you Marquis. If you show up to the country club with a famous celebrity, Yeah. That's exactly right. That's exactly right. And don't forget. They tried to the big 12 tried to keep out Houston when they were in negotiations for adding an extra team all because Houston was in Texas and the University of Texas did not want the extra competition from an in state school, right right. So if Houston can somehow continue To get the talent in Texas. That could be one of the new power teams in the league being right there. One of the biggest markets well look desperate times call for desperate measures if you're the big 12, and I think they did as well as they possibly could and going out and getting those four schools But for now, for you see if it's something to celebrate. For now, in the one of the thing about this to Scott is this comes with the BYU TV. Which secondhand till I believe it's the second biggest college television network compared to the Longhorn network, which is what the big 12 would be losing sure, which is considered one of the biggest assets outside of the teams. They're losing, so Some of the revenue that there would be losing with that is still going to come into the conference, and I'm sure the other teams benefit from this TV deal at BYU has launched this part of bringing them in B while you really is a national team if you will religious school, obviously affiliated with the the Mormon Church. So look for for now. Celebrate. You see our fans? This is this is great news. This is absolutely great news because when Oklahoma and Texas decided to move to the sec, we were all wondering, Okay. Is the big 12 going to exist right now? It does. And UCF has gotten and invited to the good old Boy network, which is wonderful, and with what's going on now, with the big 12 with the expansion of those four teams, that's obviously going to set off dominoes for some of the other conferences. The act now has to replace three teams. So who are they going to get? And so some of the smaller conferences, the Sun Belt Conference USA If they're going to be rated, and they have to start putting together a plan, Okay? If we lose so and so who are we going to get? So this is going to have ripples all throughout well, and we've been talking about college football. What about college basketball now? I mean, you look at that cover the big 12 conference in terms of college basketball. If your UCF you're going to have to up the ante now because you're you're dealing with Kansas Baylor, the defending national champ, Oklahoma State on and on and on. So that's a really good basket. But that also helps sure know that has no doubt knowing now you can go up against the Jayhawks. You can go up against the Cougars. That is a recruiting tool. You're no longer Yeah. You know, you're the old conference. You're now in the big 12. And so I think that's going to actually elevate a lot of the teams in their programs Because now you can find it a little bit easier to recruit athletes. No doubt it's time to celebrate the UCF fans. I'm just hoping that the big 12 still exist within the power five. In the next 3 to 4 years. All right, 5 46 now Wdbo Scott, Inez with you sketch five day brought to you by pro tech air conditioning and plumbing services. Here is our chief meteorologist Tom Terry. Good morning, Scott. "Three TVs on College basketball, trying to get back into that. I'm a huge college basketball fan. I've been to final fours. I've been toe conference tournaments. A C C tournaments, Big East tournaments. Uh, Atlantic 10 tournament, Stephen Been too sweet Sixteens 1st and 2nd round games. I mean, I've pretty much done it all. Very difficult for me to get into it this year. Have been somebody starts and stops because it covered There's been such an exodus in a drain on big names and big players. Kentucky, North Carolina and Duke are all unranked right now. For the first time since my mom was in diapers, you know, I mean, it's just not Such an atypical year. College basketball, I think has a problem where Fewer and fewer star players. Go to the college game now, even without Even without the MBA, giving them the chance to come right out of high school. They're finding ways around that they're finding loopholes. You're going to G league teams. They're going overseas. I think we're going to see that more and more. I think we'll even see guys who do What college football players did this year and just say I'm gonna work out for a year? And way more players transfer now. In college hoops. Lot of them find a way to get eligible right away. Just a tough sport to keep up with. So I've got North Carolina, North Carolina State on Minnesota, Maryland, Baylor, Oklahoma State. Taylor's the number two team in the country and I think if you went up to the average college basketball fan and said, name me two guys on Baylor's team, they wouldn't be able to do it. That's the state of college basketball right now..
