The Importance of Golf Facilities in College Golf
"Circling back to the facility thing in D.C.. We had one when I was at LSU. And that was kind of that was 15 years ago. That was pretty much when the facilities that golf facilities, the first class, $1 million facilities for these power 5 schools, pretty much everyone had one at that point. When I was getting recruited tech had one, LSU had one Texas had one up on the state. I had one Baylor. Everybody had one. And you had to, right? To get these recruits. But it's not the facility. The potting group private potting green or the private driving range were just the team members and the big donors can go. It's really not that. What I used at most or was a place where I could go and just kind of be alone. These kids, these kids from TCU, they don't have, you know, others in their own where they live, their house, or whatever. They don't have a place where they can just go hang out with their teammates and know that it's just going to be their teammates, right? Somewhere where they have a locker. Somewhere where they can go and watch a football game where it's just going to be them, they know that. No one else is going to walk into the 19th hole and stare at them at Mira vista or colonial or shady, like what are these guys doing in my 19th hole? They're not supposed to be in here. And that's a big deal. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but when you're 18 years old and you're kind of searching for friends and want a group to hang out with, you need somewhere to go and feel like you belong, right? It's a sense of belonging these kids want when they're that young and they're becoming men that they don't have right now. And if they do, when they do, I guarantee you TCU with the courses they have access to around here, they'll be a much better program. They'll be able to get better players from America. I'm not saying these European foreign kids are bad or anything, but you got to recruit Texas. Especially around here. If you're TCU in that facility, you'll help.
The TCU Horned Frogs Deserve Their Place in the College Football Top 4
"Perfect transition into Thanksgiving week here. The TC horcrux. I mean, I'll be honest with you. The last, I don't know, when they were 8 no 7 O 8 no, I was like, ah, they're kind of pretending, you know, it's cute, cute little story so far. Cute little school, you know, they're going undefeated, winning these games barely. Now I'm convinced I am totally sold out that they are definitely one of the best four teams in the country. They beat Texas at Texas at night. There's a 100,000 people there. Way outnumbered fan wise. And really, I mean, the score shows a little closer than I thought it really was. 17, ten. I mean, I thought y'all played the better game there and then obviously this Baylor win after what looked like a less miles clock management situation at the end. Also turned into a less miles result at the end. So yeah, I'm convinced TC is the fourth best team in the country. No doubt about it. They deserve to be in it at this point. Also,

Doug Sits Down With Ken Paxton, the Attorney General of Texas
"Don't mind, take a minute or two and just sort of tell us about being born in North Dakota. You know, why not? You know, here we go. And just bring it up to where we're at now is sort of giving them a background of who you are. Yeah, so my dad was an air force B-52 pilot, so I was born in mine at North Dakota live there the first 5 years of my life. We moved to Florida for a couple of months where my dad trained to go to Vietnam. He was flying a smaller plane in Vietnam. And so then we moved to New York with my grandparents, while my dad was a Vietnam for a year and from there, North Carolina for a few years and then I mostly grew up in California. Escaped California moved Oklahoma and then when I had a choice, when I was 18, I moved to Texas and went to Baylor university and ultimately ended up at the University of Virginia law school and then back in Texas and married here in four children that all were born in the great state of Texas.
College Football: Who Has the Primetime Game After Oklahoma Mess Up?
"Oklahoma screwed it up. I'm going to the game. I wasn't going to go to the game because I have a wedding in Dallas that night. And there was 11, so now I'm going. However, I mean, you know how that shit works. The TV network said it. So if Oklahoma would have won, they would have been the prime time game. It would have both been undefeated. They would have been the prime time game. But because Oklahoma choked, they played 11 o'clock. It's just how it works. So who's the prime time game next week with for this week with big dwell? I don't know. We're prime Simon freaking Europe, though, but I don't know who the hell. I get probably. Well, let me just with all this with all this nails research that we do. All the time on this pod. Let me just tell you the prime time. It's okay. We don't really care. It's not really. Well, no, don't worry about it. They put, oh, actually they put the two shittiest teams. West Virginia, Texas. So I don't know what's going on. Of course. The best game, the best game is Oklahoma state at Baylor. That's pretty good. There are 8 point dogs. TC is a 6 and a half point dog at home. 11 a.m., rise and shine. ABC.

Ron Guidry: The Incredible Team of the 1985 Yankees
"1985 you have this amazing season You had one of the most amazing lineups behind you in baseball history We're talking to Ron guidry one of the greatest pitchers in the history of baseball You had Mattingly You had wind field You had Baylor You had I was Jack Clark on that team too you had Willie Randolph I mean you had one of the most amazing pagliarulo He was like your number 7 hitter and he hit 30 home runs or something You had an incredible team That must have helped you that year Well it certainly I mean because you know when you go out I mean look every time you go out you want to pitch a shutout but it ain't going to work that way So you go out knowing that even if you have a bad game like I said and you give up three or four runs You know your team is capable of scored And if they don't then you chalk it up to a bad day Okay So the other guy did his job a little bit better than I did mine So he wins But when you go out there you always going out there knowing that you have a chance to win the game As long as you keep the game close like I said about the playoff game My job every time that I stepped out there was just keep this game close Sure I'd like to win the game because at the end of the year if I got a ten and ten but I should have won 25 games they're not going to pay me on this should have won 25 games Because I won ten That's it Gator they pay me on the ratings They don't care what the rating should have been All they care about what the ratings are gator Whatever they are today when we're talking that's how you get paid So what I want to do though I took more pride in leaving the mound known that my team was in a position to win Because after all if we win a hundred games we're going somewhere So that's right That was what's most poor sure I enjoyed winning the games but it was more important to always give my team an opportunity to win the games that I was pitching in

"Take advantage of all the new user sign up bonuses that FanDuel is made available to you, whether it's a $1000 risk free bet, whether it's 30 to one enhanced odds for some of the marquee NFL games for the given week. FanDuel wants to let you get your money to work for you this weekend. And pain, we got another reveal of the college football playoff committee rankings last night. I don't think there were any surprises. I'm not even sure it begs us taking time out of our busy day to discuss them. I completely agree. And even though Cincinnati didn't look very good against Tulsa, they are in position. To be in the final four, things shake out the way they could. So I don't think it's even worthy of getting irate where Cincinnati is this week. I guess the only debate is Michigan, Michigan state, which played each other two weeks ago, but I understand the thought process of the committee. It actually crazily is forward thinking. Michigan went on the road and was up 30 to 14 three quarters into the game. And I understand the final result, but if you look at the box score, Michigan probably was a little bit better in that game and so the thought process actually made sense that we are just the victim to head to head, although when you do have one loss each head dad probably should come into place. But it's difficult. I think we're lined up though where this is going to play out without some funny business from the looks of things. Yeah, and I think the other thing that goes into that is that you had the Big Ten issue an apology to Michigan for some blown calls in that game. So I think the committee could use that as a crutch, saying no, if the officials hadn't botched some of those key situations that Michigan might have come out on top, but the simple reality of it is this. Michigan will earn their way in. Michigan state will earn their way in or they'll both fall victim to Ohio State in coming weeks and make all of that discussion moot. One thing I will add FanDuel sports book of course has odds. Yes, no is on a lot of these teams to make the college football playoff. We know Georgia and overwhelming favorite put up $24 to make one at -2400. Alabama right now is listed at a pick em and apparently I have very vocal Alabama fan in the mix. Alabama listed at a pickup at -1.10. I do think that builds in a little bit of math as far as the potential that Alabama could be included with two losses. What I think is fascinating though and why you always have to try and put your money in the best position is with a team like Oklahoma that is minus one 75 to make the college football playoff, you're gonna get more bang for your buck with a money line rollover, and there's no scenario that I see where the sooners can get into the playoff if they were to lose one of their final remaining four games. No, they have to win the rest of the way. And the schedule is certainly difficult over the coming weeks. And so that becomes a little bit of a gauntlet. Hopefully things change out of the buy, defense gets a little bit healthier. But Oklahoma is going to have to run the table. That's clear, just based on where they're positioned. Within the committee rankings. And I think it's a perfect place to start when you look at Oklahoma who has a chance to get their first resume building win of the entire college football season. I mean, we've joked about teams playing soft schedules leading up to it, but Oklahoma's resume leaves a lot to be desired. We'll see what they can accomplish this weekend in Waco, where it's Oklahoma listed as a 5 and a half point road favorite to take on the Baylor bears total in this game 62 and a half at FanDuel sportsbook. Assuming Baylor remains ranked, this will be the first team inside the college football. Assuming they are ranked inside the college football, playoff top 25 that owe you has played all season. When you look at the sooners, this is a program that's one 28 of its last 30 games on the road since 2014. Meanwhile the bears, no slouch in their own building and it's a credit to what Dave veranda has been able to do, going 5 and O at home, 17 and 5, the last 22 overall, Oklahoma has obviously dominated this series winning 28 out of the last 31 against Baylor. You mentioned Oklahoma coming into this game off of a buy, Caleb Williams is really giving this offense a shot in the arm. We saw a Baylor team, I think both you and I thought was vastly overrated, finally stubbed its toe, losing outright is a 7 point favorite last weekend against TCU. But when you look at this particular match of pain, are you as intrigued to see if Oklahoma can completely stymie Baylor's offensive attack or if the sooners will be able to attack this bear's defense in space early and often? I think there's so many interesting elements to this game. Let's start with Oklahoma and Caleb Williams who you mentioned is obviously given the sooners offense a little shot in the arm. He's certainly been the dual threat the offense needs, right? When you think about how it's operated the last few seasons with guys like Kyler and Jalen hurts, having that added element of the legs takes the offense to a new level. If you look across the board, whether it's down to down, or being explosive, the sooners do everything great. You look at them top ten and passing success rate and EPA per pass. Top 15 in rushing success rate and EPA per rush. And so it's just a nice balance, especially when you have Caleb. Wood is interesting here. Is we know Dave veranda is a defensive genius. I think we can kind of label him that at this point. But in year two, the talent level isn't quite where he wants it to be. So there are some holes defensively. Secondary appears to be a bit of an issue so Caleb Williams could have success there. Baylor's outside the top 70 in both EPA per pass allowed and passing success rate. And you kind of take it one step further and actually look at the games where Baylor's face better passing attacks. It's Iowa state, and then last week against TCU. Both those passing attacks are top 25 in either passing success or EPA per pass. That's kind of the bucket you would put those two offenses in. Iowa state put up 0.54 EPA per pass that is well above the national average. And then TCU with a quarterback in Chandler Morris that wasn't good enough to play for Lincoln Riley, transferred out of Oklahoma and then put up 0.94 EPA per pass against bail or secondary. So on paper, there is advantages for the sooner offense, especially through the air..

"Here tonight, you're not a Christian. I hope you become a Christian, and maybe I'm going to just go straight gospel on you and why I think you need to accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior. But this is the 5th largest Christian college in the country and. Every one of these stuff I'm not going to do the Christian actually I probably should in Vermont. Definitely should. It's in the second least. Second least church state in the country, and then we're going to organ after that, which is the least church state in the country. But I do think that's tonight as Baylor being in the 5th largest religious institution in the country. Most people here tonight, I would guess our Christians or at least aware of what Christianity says and what the Bible with the Bible articulates and what we as Christians believe, what does if any does this critical race theory idea have in common or at odds with the teachings of the Bible? So I'm going to make this a unique flavor tonight. And if it doesn't resonate with you, we'll have questions and answers, we can go in that direction. So first, I just want to frame this by saying what is a Christian? I'm not going to get into the denominations. I'm not going to get into Christian versus Catholic of all that. You guys can sort it out yourself. The nicene creed, try and God and Aaron see a scripture, death, life, life, ministry death, barely resurrection of Christ, pretty simple stuff. You believe that you're broken by nature, original sand, you need Jesus Christ in your life to be born new to get into life eternal. These are general Christian principles again. If you guys want to have a theological discussion on more than happy to do that, I really don't have that strong opinion, except the inherent description triune God and nicey and creed. And you guys, maybe there's some theology majors here and you guys would get a fun kick out of that. So the question is if you believe in those things, what should you think about this growing trend of CRT and the hyper racialization of American politics? So let's take a step back. Let's take a why is it that we even care about this? Well, last year, after the incident with George Floyd, and the $2 billion of damages that ensued after that, in the summer last summer, all of a sudden we decided to completely and totally redesign American society. We decided to prioritize people based on race, not on character. We decided to change the way that we actually implement graduation ceremonies, where we'll get into some of these examples. But did you know 75 colleges across the country now do graduation ceremonies based on race? So black only graduation ceremony, Hispanic only graduation ceremony, white only graduation ceremony. We are resegregating American society. In Georgia public schools, they have black kids go to one classroom, white kids go to another classroom. Though this idea of that we should care about the skin color and the content of people's skin color, not of their character, is not a new phenomenon, but it's new for my lifetime. That's for sure. You know, I'm 27 about the 28 tomorrow and I'm holding on as long as I can. And. I feel like I'm 55 when I.

"Point USA chapter and very good. And I also want to thank Oli and the amazing team here at Baylor, you work very hard to pull off this event, really is terrific. It's not easy to do this, especially off campus, and obviously we'd like to be on campus, but still a pretty amazing turnout I have to say. And it's really important. So we're on tour right now. And when we were thinking about what kind of we wanted to do on our tour, when we first started doing this, it was interesting, we're always trying to be the most relevant and trying to communicate to you. Our target audience in a way that you appreciate and understand. And we never wanted our tour ever to be about a specific issue. But we felt in particular as kind of as things were developing in our country, especially after last summer. And with the implementation of this radical ideology critical race theory in a variety of different ways, we said, we're going to have to explain what this is and push back against this. And so we said, let's have this tour exposing critical racism to her. Of course, no controversy at all across the country with that, we're going to Vermont next week. I think they're already burning buildings in anticipation of arrival. We're not going to allow to say what our hotel we're speaking at yet next week because of out of safety concerns. But this is a really serious issue. And tonight's speech will be a little bit different because I'm going to come after this from why should Christians reject critical race theory. Now maybe you're here tonight, you're not a Christian. I hope you become a Christian, and maybe I'm going to just go straight gospel on you and why I think you need to accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior. But this is the 5th.

They enter into a small room and hear we are Karen the caretaker says. But where are the enemas? They are right. There. When at that moment, Karen the caretaker opens a lid from a huge box that is filled with sand entered. This is the home of Willie the worm. And his extended family, of course. Question. I mean like everybody says oh. Our bras didn't you know he didn't impede anybody. They might not have impeded anybody from going to the authorities or anything they. They just didn't do anything right. And that's when you're you're held to as administrators as coaches all those things. You're held to a higher standard. Your same thing. We mentioned about another right your job when you know those kind of things are going to go do something about it. Not just let it happen in. Those things didn't happen sometimes. Not doing anything is the worst thing you can do. Man that's what they did. Yeah which is which is sad. But i i know that like i said some of my buddies at baylor may feel different. And there's going to be some think it's heinous good people that think it's heinous. That won't agree with the decision. But we're gonna still support their program because some of these and it wasn't everybody i hate when we put an umbrella on every woman if she went through this or every guy. That's been clear a lot of players. I knew a kid that was one of my best friends that played there during that aaron he was not taking taking and then he was engaged in getting married the second he was out of out of college. And that's the umbrella part i thought about. It's not fair but unfortunately it society we throw people into situations. That wasn't their fault right. And that's but those people who were involved in this know exactly where they stand regardless of whether we do or don't tyler get the president Dr linda livingstone is the baylor president and she had her response. John will get to you right after this. Get your thoughts on this her response to the nc two a. ruling about baylor. Yesterday i do think there are many other ways in which baylor is and has been held accountable and will continue to be held accountable along with other institutions that are dealing with similar types of issues. We continue to learn every day of how we can continue to make progress and improve on what has been done over the last five years on. What the victims are doing today. Wonder what their thoughts are. They're probably not happy as they should. I mean they should be mad. They should be sad. That should be all things. Because it's against hurt shows you. I mean like there's too many instances of this in life that people get away with things sat shirts. i mean. it's a sad day saturday. I know the baylor pro. Football program wants to move on from it but especially those that were involved in this but sad day for those at the the the whoring the horrible the horror stories that you've heard of them having to go through it but the biscuit made a good point about it just can't be. I'm not saying it wasn't this case but in society about it. Somebody did one thing we've got. I mean we have to see both sides and at least hear both sides and they went five years of both sides. All involved in this is the decision they came up with. And and and we're just gonna have to form our opinion on what you hear and how you feel that the victims the losers and all of this in all of it. The true victim really are john. What's up man. Hey good morning good. Hey you know man. I've slept since then but this is typical of the nc double a. but holes dropping the ball once again You know. I know. I'm gonna be corrected on but visit has a point but That going towards you know whether okay so they were found not guilty. Correct show accountable. The exact verbiage they use the the findings were the infractions. Committee said the question. It wrestled with was whether bay athletes accused of sexual assault or other violence. We're giving an extra benefit. The answer was no which is a damning indictment on the campus environment at the time so ultimately they said the tremendous reluctance. This panel agrees. And so it's going to get the ruling is what they call it so whether it's accountability or ruling but the the accountability is not going to be there because they're not missing bowl games if if you think that it happened so and they didn't go to jail. Nobody is in jail because of it. So here we are so the ruling is four baylor and against an nc to a violation in that case when it comes to the football program and sexual assault allegations. Then why penalize. If it isn't happen didn't happen and there. You see what i'm saying. I mean it's they came here the peanut butter and that's why they do. They didn't get penalized. They got their infractions. Where other things spying. Yeah five thousand for something else. Exactly i mean what's that gonna do. Great nephew got you. I mean that's like a penny to five year old. I mean come on man and agrees laughing face. The human to human race and women's rights agreed into biscuits point of what he saying When about going to on the jury it with To convince with reasonable doubt right. It's kind of like what he was saying. That's the law and order days. Point being as we gotta quit as human people. As human the human race and this goes to all race about picking out one wraith. Everybody did co where. I mean the the way people portray women in videos eight doing nobody. No good it's not doing any women any good and then they get this mindset. They see it. They go to college and they think they're they. They're untouchable because they're in the program and they're not and they should have been banished. Should have been held. Aren't riles in because art as michelson is the football coach. Head of the program. But also an showing. You know this team when we all went to college and we left our homes. That head coach became our father. Figure that head coach was the man that we look to. We were three eight hours away from our fathers and art knew what was going on. I i'm sorry ma'am but for what bainer did and what the nc double a. Did.

"They've gone the top ten route in the past right. They've done that with with quincy miller. Jerry jones isaiah austin early on in his career in his tenure. But i think now you know you find those guys that are a little bit more suited to baylor benefits. Better fits better fits and i. You know. I gotta rank like tan right now. Who do you think who do you think is back for baylor. Nex year butler gone. I think i'm mitchell gone on. Vitals scout obvious lyles obviously gone on. Emesa take gone so like matt. Meyer adam flagler. J. the ask good chow more. Chuck out your josh lewin. Yes and they get again. They get three guys that they think could be. All be impact is next year. They're going to start off. You know they like eljay. Cryer law to lay like a lot. Right that'll be key. Eljay cryer will be very very important because if he can be a high level point guard. And the great thing for him is obviously. He's learned this year practicing against butler mitchell teague flagler. That's pretty good that's pretty. You're not doing better than that right. Now it's a that's certainly gonna teach some things. They'll they'll be good and your i defend is really important guy bad carry. Oh i mean quincy didn't fit for them to me i always. Where do you think me would have said mexico state something like that. I didn't stop the toxin player. I don't know like jerry jones. I love because he was the sweetest kid in the world does too nice. He was through nice. And ostracized. austin. You know was really nice to. I blew my shoes the nba combine. And i'd never met when miller and we were in the same group and he just gave me his shoes. Wow that's impressive. Quincy miller's problem was he was ranked too high and he'd be bought into it anyway before we go. Let's spend about three or four minutes on gonzaga we've talked exclusively about baylor so far Do question again. A lot of people now are going to have this kind of mantra. well here. We go again with kazakh. They can never buy yawning. Rub you got plenty of sleep last night. Trying to eight view is the three. I believe in titus data a weekend serve. That's true in think. Like i know the mid major not major but the west coast conference. Narrative is going to come back. That didn't affect them against usc that was playing as well as anybody that didn't affect them. Ucla play the perfect game. The perfect game. Yeah and i think maybe that was a little bit of foreshadowing that you know maybe is going to have a hard time with bill guards but the second best team in college basketball and you play who. You're supposed to plan your conference. They tried to play all these people they they played isla. They tried to play baylor like mark trying to play whoever he could grams awesome. awesome mark. you did a great job and generate better team and that happens you know. it's not..

"Shelly Valentine yeah, nice talk to another on the drop the stuff. When did he try to find out how that went that you'd go assignment went anyway, so Scott drew to me the more you get to know him. The more you realize it's real like it is absolutely there is no phoniness in it. He is the nicest human being the most optimistic happy. I mean I talked to him he hasn't slept and I talked to him a couple of hours ago. He did it today show and he got on the phone with me and he would have talked for twenty minutes but like 5 minutes in he left off with hay and you know my daughter, you know, not a sports fan until two years ago became a huge sports fan started doing Media stuff during the pandemic. Honestly. It's a probably keep her busy and keep her engaged and and doing things and the first guy the literally the first coach that sorry SOB. It's like this is the greatest thing ever that she's doing it. Let me know whenever I can be on and she can interview me and he kept asking and telling me hey get tired to do more get her to do more with you and her should do them together on a pod. Like he just he gets it. It's he's his heart of workers he is and I talked to his family about it last night his wife Kelly home and it's kids he works so hard puts everything he can into his job. But but also his so much about family and Faith obviously, right? Yeah. I mean, I've got a good story about Scott and just like kind of how he is and this was two years ago. Now we were doing Baylor Kansas State in Manhattan. And this was with life the the dean Wade come out stoked very Brown teams. Like they were good. And Baylor is in Manhattan and there is a crazy snow storm coming like dead. Overnight or yeah, it was overnight. It was going to like roll into the morning. And if you ever been to Manhattan, the airport is Tiny. I cannot imagine that they have lunch the ability to D ice planes or maybe do I doubt it though. It's a really small airport. So I've got a flight next morning like at 6 a.m. To 5 Chicago and I've got to drive to Champaign to do a game for Big Ten Network box was a Saturday night. This is a Sunday like at noon start. So I'm cutting it like super close and my partner Rich Hollenberg is got a fly back to Tampa. I think his daughter had like a dance recital or something that he had to be home for you. So we were talking to shoot around us got about it. And he was like, well, we're leaving her after the Game Stop on our plane and fly back from Dallas and we were like, oh we do that like illegal is it legal? Is it a loud? And he was like, yeah, let us check it out and and make sure that we have room on the plane. But if we do just fight Waco drive to Dallas and wage. Get out and literally I want to say they lost in most coaches after they lose are like they don't want to see you totally not a hundred percent sure. I want us to do they lost the game and Scott was like, I mean, he left his flying the plane and he asked us if we need a ride to Dallas as if that's like ten minutes away and it's like 3 a.m. Because I need a ride to Dallas and Rich. They're like, no we'll rent a car and we'll drive so we get into Dallas at like no 3:30 and was we were on like,.

"After coming back from covet. Because they played right away against iowa state played against again against kansas. There were just too many games stacked up upon each other that they really never had a chance. Think losing earlier than expected in the big twelve tournament. I think it helped them. I think they went home. They can regroup. They can of get focused on getting their defense back and man. Those these last few games are were but as dominant of of performances. I can remember against houston wasn't even gained right. it was it was a complete beatdown against gonzaga. The team that everybody was ready to write the stories. I mean you don't know how many of my friends were ready to write the stories Jeff pohjola about gonzaga being one of the greatest teams ever. Where do they stack up. And i'm like yeah i just. I think baylor's are better team here now. Baylor death is what stands out to me. We just we kind of talked about that. With meyer and flagler you know you get off to a bad start when your best player. Foul trouble core. Kiss doesn't shoot it well and doesn't really. I felt like he didn't have great looks. you know. i didn't feel like he ever really got good. Looks at the basket drew. Timmy gets slowed down. It was just you get punched in the mouth like that immediately and it wasn't just a punch like they they knock gags aga- out in the rob rob when that has happened to you when that is happening. You gimme gimme an example of when you went out there with good purdue team and you knew. The other team was better. What are you thinking early on or even when you go out there and three three have a great example from purdue do big tennessee challenge two thousand nine it was such a high game warlike like six. They're like four. They're bringing it the team that the next year will in the national championships. So it's like it's john. Shire gerald henderson. Brian zubac lance thomas. Kyle singler really good team really. Good team pauses off the bench What was the nolan on. That team was the nolan on that one team. Yep yep no one was there they had a bunch of guys and i have never part of this duke part of this was the atmosphere and honestly it helped us down the road because i thought that it helped us win games the next year from being in this situation but when you come out to warm for the game starts with an hour pre-game and it's full and like the buzz and the arena is like i mean we we out to such a bad start. I missed the point blank lab. We're down like fourteen two four and it was just kind of like do i just. I'm looking at some of these guys. And i just think that they're better. They are better than us right now. Joe henderson made a move. Where i swear to god he made a spin move and finger old it down to the rim. It's like i remember. I love to see the play now. 'cause i'm sure he did but it was like..

"National title Scott drew. Like is it surreal? I mean you grew up following Scott drew and Homer and in in Bryce, is it surreal? Like, can you believe that Baylor won the National Championship dead know only because it's not really a violent thing. It's more of like, I remember when he left Valpo as the head coach to go to Baylor and like they just had a player murder another player game. That's How do you come back from that and I think you know, they certainly had some some struggles and the penalties they received were were I mean, you know what hath it's fair, but they for a guy coming in and it's amazing the way that he's turned the program around and I mean they're they're team if they don't get covid-19. A big-time player and making a you know, a kind of shot Nancy Turner, but Scott was a big part of that Scott was the one that was going out in recruiting and and you know, he was a huge part of his dad staff. So I'm certainly proud in that regard but you know, they certainly deserve it and a lot of those kids came back this year because there last year, you know get an opportunity, you know, I feel bad for it. I I saw him at the three extra use step C played was Dave, you know him in front of what about reading my last total both those dudes, right? I feel bad that you know this they just didn't get an opportunity. But what a performance wage, um, it was really a beat down and they they proved that they are you know, the the class of college basketball this year. Yeah. I mean listen, I picked Baylor to one at all before the exam before they charge me that I'm gonna do cuz I get enough wrong, but I didn't think it would go like it went last night. Let's let's face it like nobody thought it would be that dominating but early on Rob Know if you felt the same way first four minutes. It was like, whoa. Okay, the athleticism toughness the tenacity the defense that was the whole part that.

"Welcome to knee last regular season of the humble podcast. I'm jeff goodman these row. Hubble and It's over rob your back home and you watch your boys from valpo win. The national title scott drew back. Is it surreal. I mean grew up. Following scott drew at homer. Bryce is it surreal like. Can you believe that baylor won the national championship. No only because it's not really a thing it's more of like i remember when he left valpo oppo as the head coach they go to baylor aged player murder another player. Like that's how you come back from that. And i think you know. They certainly had some some struggles in the penalties received. Were or i mean you know with what happened fair. But they forgot coming in. It's it's amazing the way that he's turned the program around and their team if they don't get covid this year we could be talking about them isn't undefeated team. I really believe that. They were role. I saw him in person and in january and they just their depth was so elite. They have elite guard. Play scott drew a really good coach. I don't think that people maybe have given him credit for that. And there's been a lot of stories written about that as this is kinda like matriculated into them being a really good team this year. But yeah i'm definitely proud. I mean the job that homer drew. Did it volvo. was incredible. Bryce was so well known as as a big time player and making a i kind of shot in the ncaa tournament but scott was a big part of that scott was the one that was going out in recruiting. And you know. He's a huge part of his dad staff. So i'm certainly proud in that regard but they certainly deserve it and a lot of those kids came back this year because last year you'll get an opportunity you know. I feel bad for and i saw him at. The three youths played was devante bandou. Yeah you know him in front of the sp sp totally both those dudes. I feel bad that you know this didn't get an opportunity. But what a performance it was really a down and they. They proved that they are. You know the class of college basketball this. Yeah i mean listen. I picked baylor to win at all before the season before the chart i got kiss. I get enough wrong. But i didn't think it was. It went last night. Let's let's face it like nobody thought it would be that dominating but early on rob. I don't know if you felt the same way. I four minutes. It was like whoa okay. The athleticism toughness the tenacity. The the defense. That was the part that blew me away. Rob right away of like all right like inserts picked up to quit but i'm not even sure it would have mattered like taylor wasn't getting by dudes. And if he was they had great great. Help defense all all men. Now i they understand the roles. You have big time printer defenders in david mitchell. Injured butler. you've you can..

"That's what we want to encourage this club so it part of getting started From our commerce conversation earlier. Excuse me you told me that Baylor entrepreneurship club engages in things like different focus groups that are skill specific. Is that right correct. Yes so what does that look like. Yeah what it really looks like. His peer to peer mentor ship. Where you have people building interpersonal relationships with others who have complementary skill sets to them. You one thing. I really believe in as being a specialist. Not a generalist You know it's been my experience that if you're a generalist you're not that competitive right and so as a special shoe is for people who Compliment your abilities and skills. That's what our mentor. Ship program is really about so it. It's more While it is developing different skills it's also networking opportunity correct absolutely. Yeah and i think that's important too because nicot said you're a specialist. I mean you are the the the leader of what you do. So i always think about mario and luigi do you remember. Playing mario mario was always good at a lot of different things but luigi was able to jump the highest. I often went with luigi for some tasks. Because i needed to jump higher than mario is able to know. And i mean it's it's purely fact like i love luigi because of that because he was able to differentiate himself and set himself apart. But if you can't jump that high that's no problem right around your self with people who can And i think they would entrepreneurship club. And wouldn't nick is doing is creating a great networking opportunity for students. Who may be good at one thing to find others who compliment them so for example In a previous episode. Talk with or talked with doria and i am a awful content creator. My social media is the worst But i would love to have somebody like doria on my team and we do. Have somebody like dairy honor team. Gray smith who is a killer content creator and so that's what nick's talking about and that's why it's important to have these types of clubs because he can find people who compliment yourself and It really helps take your business near venture the next level. Yeah right so nick. We've got a lot of people who aren't from baylor who are also listening and they may not have an entrepreneurship club. What would you recommend being their first steps if they wanted to start an organization like this where they are. I think the first steps are really talk with people who are an admin people who are vice presidents people who are associate directors even directors other school and see. Hey what do we need here right Because those people oftentimes no the landscape better than most of the students and they really know how to service the market so to speak that are is the student body so i'd talked to them but also create a plan but then you also need a great team to execute a it. You know. I am no exception to the specialist role right. I am a specialist ended up myself I wouldn't know how to create content. Or you know. I don't even know how to sell that. Well but what. I do know how to do is to build a great team and so you need other people who can again be that complementary skill set in one of the things that struck me about baylor during my first week here. Is you know we have the foster. We have foster the business school. We have the bs be the better science building which is Full of pre and You know medical researchers and then we have the engineering building right and all three of these buildings are basically on the opposite ends of campus from each other. And it really struck me how The disparities right. You know business. People and pre meds and engineers don't make too much show. This club is really about building those barriers as well are start breaking down those barriers building. Bridges there yeah. That's awesome so nick for people at baylor who are listening Who may be interested in baylor entrepreneurship club. How can they joined. Yeah so the best thing that they can do is go to her. Instagram baylor underscore bbc as in bravo echo. Charlie and filter. An interest for me have their income to an experience going to be on march thirty first five thirty pm at started waco in downtown.

"At home just maybe start by telling us a little bit about yourself. Give us some context. Absolutely my name is nick. I'm the founder and ceo of jerome parks rider based startup. I'm also the founder and president of the bitter entrepreneurship club more commonly known as back. I graduated from high school in two thousand sixteen actually co-founded drawn partial wide Graduating ran up for four years and then had to shut down due to code biz for years. We're really great. Time in my life. And i think from teach a class on not to help. Young women learn to fly drones to fly with veterans To give a tax talk and ultimately break a world record for flying the most amount of drones at one time so it's been a great entrepreneurial journey and we look forward to sharing more about that and more about the the entrepreneurship club today. Yeah that's incredible in which you just talked about. That's the purpose of why we're here. Today is to talk about the baylor entrepreneurship club so you came from. High school. started up a fulltime entrepreneur. And then you decided to take a nontraditional route come back to university and thankfully you chose baylor and and you got here and you recognize that. There wasn't an entrepreneurship club in there. Hasn't been one so. What is the baylor entrepreneurship club. Give us some context behind that. So the entrepreneurship club is a group of interdisciplinary action. Focus students with christian values Who believe that. They can make an impact on the world by starting companies nonprofits and churches right and so help me understand what. Your role is for the entrepreneurship club. Well as founder and present my role is really to make sure that we saw defining vision and that we ultimately executed particles in timely manner and ultimately provide value for our members. So really just making sure that You know our team is healthy and our goals are execute upon so you run a lot of the large scale. I guess a thirty thousand foot level strategy is that correct. That's absolutely correct. Yes and for those who may not be familiar with what an entrepreneurship club is because it is different than an incubator program or an accelerator that a lot of Like venture capital firms will offer or nonprofits will offer Help us understand. What exactly entrepreneurship clubs are yup. So in general entrepreneurship clubs are the real world. Application of those things like you would learn. Incubator accelerator you. Know so much of entrepreneurship in my view is having that spark in that a ha moment and sort of that That just magical moment. Where your idea hits you You need that but you also need the right team next upon that and you know. That's where an entrepreneurship club comes in. Because i mean only be what you know but also who you know right so. Tell me the story of entrepreneurship club. Like how did you get to start bbc. What sparked that a ha that you just mentioned. Yeah well my Ha kind of road to damascus. Moment came The first week goes here. Baylor where you know. Here have the seventh best entrepreneurship program in the country. And it's amazing. You look at the slowest straight. He goes stanford harvard princeton ivy league. Ivy plus caltech baylor ivy league right but out of all these amazing schools. We're the only one who didn't have an entrepreneurship club and it was interesting. Talking with some people in some people in entrepreneurship department. I really felt like there was an opportunity to make a difference. Europe baylor and it's been great as well because you a baylor. We're one of the most up and coming schools. Our nation and were really focusing on you know tier one are one research that makes a big impact on people's lives but ultimately at the end of the day. It doesn't matter what the bsp's doing better science building right doesn't matter what we're researching if no one is getting out there and applying it and getting in the hands of people who can use it. So i really felt like. That's how i can make an impact here on this campus. So filling my gaps. What inspire you as when you came to bail you. Have this non. Traditional view of what entrepreneurship was like. You have a lot of context beyond what most students have reason being. You've done it And so in pure entrepreneurial fashion you saw a need and you executed on it. You saw that. Baylor was one of the top programs in the nation. Yet they didn't have a club that actually facilitated and encourage others now bear does have the also launched program which helps a lot of younger students excel or begin their venture. What i think you said. And what we what i know. We lack is the ability to reach other students on campus. Who may not be in the business school in have great ideas. I mean for example stem students. A lot of stem students are actual the the idea or the the originators of great ideas a lot of really good technology which is part of the reason. Baylor's pushing For the baylor research and innovation collaborative in the brick building to where we're trying to figure out how to commercialize the technology and a lot of the really cool things that are happening at baylor and from what. It sounds like you wanted to do that. Same thing from a student and entrepreneurial perspective is that right. That's that's absolutely right. Know because something like the covid vaccine right. I don't know the first thing about making a vaccine You know if it's anything beyond a band aid that's the extent of my medical knowledge however someone someone somewhere has decide. How do we make this vaccine work. Getting the hands of people and how do we ultimately me ultimately make it financially stable and that's where the business people come in that's with entrepreneurs come in But the problem with something like an incubator weren't exceleron or is that. That's just an extension of academics right. That's an extension of the side of entrepreneurship which is important right. But that's not all entrepreneurships about so. We had the academic side of entrepreneurship. But we didn't have that world aspect. So that's the gap. I wanted to fill in so being action focused. What ideas are what steps. Do you wanna take to actually help. Members be action focused. Yeah well it's a great question because it's interesting beyond for four years right because you hear all these great ideas from people is that if they're execute upon change the world a very serious way. I always use the example of spacex rate. How many people before you on. Musk thought of reusable spaceship. Probably a lot. But how many actually get out there and execute upon it and build thing not that many and so you know patricia club. It's really a mindset shift. Right rather than sitting around and pontificating about ideas we really focus on. How do you put those ideas into action. You know even if it's something as small as bringing your product or your service to the farmers market and just selling it to people getting it in people's hands.

They beat oklahoma a little bit of that little bit. I won't lie so little. I got to see it up close and personal. He's not that far removed from being on the doorstep of the final four but three years. Yeah yeah that. Was the barry brown and dean wade and come out stokes teams. Yeah i i mean they certainly not an easy. But they've they were fourteen and four in eighteen thousand nine hundred and there were fourteen and four and for first in the league so they went to the lead in seventeen eighteen. And then i won the league. Two years ago years ago you had a catastrophic injuried derail. It would be way right so the last year or so. Yes they have been. They were last year. How good is their young talent rob. How good is young talent. Is i like him. I think you know the big kid davey on bradford is solid. He's huge. He's gotten a lot better. You know their guards day. Schwann gordon's a sophomore. Good rebounder. he hasn't shiloh from three this year. Naito pack it'd be the one where you're like he is. They're their best freshman. What what are they missing our experience from their mrs shotmaking and they turn the ball over like it's insane like it's on fire. You'd think the vast was flames. Coming out of it was the way they take care of the ball. Sometimes which grew ever coach team is what they do really guard. You guard like crazy. They've got to find people that can make some shots. Got a kid named self. Miguel that can make plays. But he's there's times where it's like. Man seldom he makes good playing around makes two plays. Or you're like. Oh my god you know like but i would. I wouldn't fibers. I think he's good. I think they've gone out of here. Yeah just to horrible years but to really good years before that to me you give him one more year and see what he can do with this group as they get a little bit older. All right steve pro next. They've got veteran guard each other in the Huddle at West Virginia. Listen, you never fought each one more you never wanted to kick his ass had verbal arguments. I've never had to be held back from trying to find in a huddle. That's the Minnesota Timberwolves stuff from when I was a thousand that is that's some packet of stuff. Who did that who did that in Minnesota? Can you say no, you know what I'm saying? I can't say who who did but if I look at that roster that year I guarantee I could pick it out easily you would you would totally get it. But that's just that's with bad. Like I'm not saying you can arguments. I'm not saying you can't verbal disagreements, but to have it come to a point where two of your players are ready to fight each other. On National Television to me is a problem but a problem it can be fixed a problem. That can be I love your optimism. Okay, that's fine. I think they can you know, they can have it like a Kumbaya moment and ask it out together and get them right. I mean like how hard is it? I'm just probably over a girl part as long as I mean, it was probably overgrown somebody why know that it was probably over a girl. There's no way it was over a chick. Every disagreement is about paycheck not mid-game every if they got into it before practice, maybe I would agree with that. I give it a 0% chance zero zero percent Euro was over a girl at that point the game. It was over I guarantee you was over somebody box and like a pick-and-roll coverage or not doing what they were supposed to like blowing in multiple assignments. That's that was I thought it was. All right girl, and they have super problems when Texas is in the final for him and ask him if it was about a girl. Okay. I cannot wait. I cannot wait. I know.

"That you know, you have to take the packages from this and that to me could be a positive out of this. I'm going to give you another positive major positive. Baylor's players now are going to be within the 90 days. They've already they've all had it. Yeah. Yes in in Indianapolis. That is a Lissa. The only negative would be there was some sort of coronavirus heart condition. That would be the only thing where you could be like, all right. This is now a huge negative and and you're trusting in Baylor's medical staff to to test those kids be responsible and like do the right thing but all things being said as long as the kids are safe and they pass then you have it that it's good cuz they can't they can't get knocked out like so many other coaches are losing sleep over night about the negative and the positive might be the timing in a way right? Like if it happened a week or two later, you're saying well don't know if Baylor is going to be themselves in in to you. You can still say that Rob like but there you're talking now, like I'm going to Indian 2 and 1/2 weeks. They'll play for their first game. UW tournament will be almost three weeks from now that'll be almost four weeks from when they came back and played their first game. They should be back currently in a college basketball season four weeks. You've gone through like, you know a week of depression when you lose and then like you win three in a row and you're like for the best team in the world college basketball Solaris cuz it is the biggest roller coaster are they in fact, are they a hundred percent back from them in from the lay-off and everything and they will be by then by then. They should be fine. Now again, you worry like the mental part of it if they if they lose another one or two. Do they start to kind of worried about themselves or or they saying we're not worry. We know why it like, who knows. I mean you you lose your cat Emoji a little bit here. Potentially. It had to be jarring when lunar stuff comes out and you'd go from the the number to one seed to all of a sudden number three just cuz Michigan playing so well and just because you've had that spot solidified 4 a.m. The entire year, you know that that had to at least get your attention. I'm not saying it's like mentally messed with those dudes. But I know as a player that that would grab me where it's like man like wage. This is really tough timing and then unfortunately this happened to us, I will say so I did a story on them. I don't know if you saw last week on how Baylor was billed and may all twelve players and I was just be asking with them asking him some stuff and and I said one of the questions I asked most of them that that returned and had prominent role size here. I said, you know, how much did are you guys on a mission this year? Because obviously you had the NCAA tournament taking away last year and a chance to to win.

I will tell you. We played basketball tonight. And i gotta steal in the open floor and went up off one and hammered it and i literally just i. Should've i should've like just like yelled out. Like take that goodman. And maybe you would have subconsciously. Been like wow. I think rodman just been hanging on rims all where you poke whatever. Those were like an earthquake hit massachusetts. That's what it was just knew that. I went up there and crack on well. I'm glad you're feeling good. I'm glad you're feeling healthy. Feeling we got. We got to win the gold in three on three so no excuses route. No excuses no excuses whatsoever and you know what no excuses for. The baylor bears the bears rob right here the jail. Somebody's not a front runner. Learn paying they lost last night. I'm where i know of credit giving credit the kansas fans man. They are on the they've been on me. Oh year if think. I hate bill self and you can attest to the fact that like i don't hate bill self and bill south doesn't game on the pod because you asked him it was because i did. That's for sure. I you know we're talking about this before and you you think about baylor and kansas has come a long way i dealt with is some too because i had a kansas came to east. They'd be kansas state and the game. I said i think they're ceiling if all goes well and perfect for them is the sweet sixteen and at the time. I thought that was fair. I think now you could lift that to the elite eight Do all the way to the final. Four things. Break right totally. Totally and part of that is. I think there's three teams right now. That are really good and everybody else is kind of in a different stratosphere. But when i said that i had a bunch of kansas people tweet and may two one win. They'd be. I forget who they who they beat after kansas state it god who was that they beat somebody decent conference play. Yeah they i mean. They went through a stretch there. I mean again. If you'd iowa state early then you know like easy. Stretch the iowa state twice in kansas state and then they beat somebody decent. I'm trying to think who it was regardless and after the game immediately what you still think. They're ceilings the sweet sixteen and of course it's fluid like even play better and worse Right you can your mind. We are allowed to change our mind like michigan. I didn't think michigan very good early. Well saying exactly like saying that. Hey they're going to finish seven because at the start of the year. That was fair. And i'm still hearing about that. You are too..
