"About. I'm Jeff Cleveland. 1248. Back to the traffic center in Joe Fox. Bruce, we got a call from the Anna rondo county, so central avenue east of south river high school. They were wondering why they were at a complete stop in aeronautical police were very helpful with the answer to that. There's a parade that was just wrapping up in Mayo in Beverly beach and selby on the bay, so the good news is if you were headed that way or if you were stuck in that delay or some folks even turned around, it's much better to head that way on central avenue towards Beverly beach at this point. A little bit north of there on the bay bridge, it's still a four mile back up to get across the bay bridge. We have three lanes headed eastbound, two lanes headed west. If you are headed west, it's gonna back down at cock's neck road, and it'll open up again at sandy point. The earlier delays that we had in Cambridge should be mostly gone that crash is cleared elsewhere southbound three O one to get to the nice Middleton bridge. It's a three mile delay from newburgh across the crust a nice Middleton bridge band. And the reason for that is bailout traffic from folks taking 95 southbound, where you're slow on and off from a quiet harbor, clear down to Ashland, Virginia. We did have a crash at I two 95 outside of Richmond, and that was causing several miles, probably about ten miles worth of delays, headed southbound, northbound, you're going to be slow through the city of Fredericksburg, and then again, from a quiet harbor, most of the way up through lorton and newington. I two 70 slow from clarksburg on up to Frederick, I 95 north down between the beltways looking good as you head farther north though you're going to be slow from Bel Air most of the way to the Delaware memorial bridge, so not a whole lot better than 95 southbound BW Parkway is going to be slow from 100 down to one 98, and then again, as you approach the capital beltway, potted Potter is magical fun for the whole family to smash hit Harry Potter parody is now playing through July 17th tickets at Shakespeare theater dot org Joe Fox traffic. Our forecast now, Steve, prince of valley, we could see some rocking and rolling today. Yes, this afternoon, especially after about two, 3 o'clock Bruce, that's what we're watching for the threat of these nasty thunderstorms

"Add a base and Monday to learn more, go to sleep number dot com. Ten 28. Traffic and weather on the 8s a lot going on in the traffic center Joe Fox, John absolutely the focus of our attention continues to be 95 both north and South Bend, let's start in Virginia, southbound I 95, we have two lanes blocked, it's the right lane getting you through right after the express lane merge in Stafford county. Your delays are significant from Quantico all the way down to that point. And then you're going to back down again as you go through Fredericksburg. Looks like we were hoping that the little the less volume getting through past the first crash would open things up farther downstream and that's just not happening so far. So a lot of folks trying to make their way on 95 southbound. Of course, that should be no surprise on a holiday weekend that really continues all the way down to the sit to the city of Richmond at this point. Looks like you might open up at interstate two 95 around Richmond, but other than that, it's on and off delays really from Quantico all the way down. North down 95, you do not, you are slow through from spotsylvania through Fredericksburg. You can not see the crash on the southbound side, add a quiet harbor so that you're going to be slow from Dale City up across the aqua Quan. Bellway in Virginia looking good, 66, mostly looking good looks like we have a little bit of a slowdown as you approach subtly road across bull run that should be volume only. Northbound two 70 and Maryland is going to be slow from clarksburg all the way up to Frederick, then it slowed down continues as you proceed westbound towards Braddock mountain on Frederick, 15 moving well, 70 farther westbound between Hancock and breezewood. We've got to work zone that's going to slow you down for three miles. Bay bridge looking a little bit better. It's about a 5 mile delay, two and including the bay bridge span eastbound. You do have three lanes to the east and shore, then you're going to be slow again from graysonville to why mills that includes a 53 O one split and the outlets. Northbound 95 pass Baltimore, the tidings bridge has been closed more often than not for a crash and its associated cleanup. You are diverted to route 40 to use the Hayden bridge. Obviously a lot of folks doing that. It is slow but moving. I'm hearing from a lot of folks that are moving all the way over to route one to crust kind of wingo dam. That is even started to pick up volume. So pick your poison as you're headed north, south, or northwest, however 66 in Virginia still looking good. "For the 4th of July on Monday, events along the national mall are going to be spread out, which means that there is a rather sizable traffic closure pattern in place. That's U.S. park police sergeant Tom twin aim. He says closures will start. 6 Monday morning and last all day and night. A lot of those closures are gonna be geared towards constitution avenue, independence, avenue, rock creek Parkway, south of Virginia avenue, and memorial bridge will be closed. Public access points along the national mall where visitors will go through security will open starting at 11 o'clock Monday morning. It's 9 18 now and we've got traffic and weather on the 8s to the traffic center and married to pampa. All right, thanks Nick and always thanks to WTF listeners keeping us informed on fortunately if you're heading eastbound on 50 to get to the Chesapeake Bay bridge, we've already had a delay from about route two to get there. Now on the reversible lane, the two way traveling on the westbound span listener causing the new crash. So delays should build back build once again be prepared. Now it is a long holiday weekend. After this and you cross the bay bridge onto canton narrows, you'll can expect volume delays from about that point due to the three O one split in Queenstown. And again, toward why mills, this was the only incident currently reported and nothing was reported beyond this point heading westbound toward the beltway, even inside of the beltway into northeast Washington. Inside of the beltway south on the Baltimore Washington Parkway slows through greenbelt park for reasons yet to be determined northbound on the Baltimore Washington Parkway, passing powder mill, the report is a disabled vehicles on the right shoulder, delays remain nonetheless 95 in Maryland beltway about way wide open. Nothing currently reported in your way on the beltway, both in Maryland and in Virginia south on two 70 before the lane divide once you've passed montrose road toward the lane divide new report of a crash watch from response. In Virginia, 95, there was a truck crash and fire in Stafford county from the 2 o'clock hour. They are still there cleaning it up. They're restored the lanes after a brief closure and diversion and right now 95 south is delayed from Quantico all the way through much of Stafford county, passing where the earlier diversion was at exit one 40. It's about a mile and a half pass there. They are on the right side, and now delays are connecting toward the centerport Parkway. Jam, both sides of 95 getting through Fredericksburg and that is volume delays, easy pass express dew points southbound and unfortunately they join in right in the heart of this major delay route one was the alternate and that too is bogged down. "Athletic activities aimed at trying to engage the youth in our Marlborough John dome in WTO P news. 7 48s traffic and weather on the 8s. Over to married a pampa in the traffic center. All right, Nick, thank you and we go straight over to Virginia where interstate 95 for a long holiday weekend has not been particularly kind going through Stafford county. Actually, you're hitting the brakes now near the Russell road exit and Quantico exit one four 8 and it's a slow, steady crawl to get past the Stafford exit one 40, where traffic was once diverted by about a mile and a half, that's where the auto fire cleanup was continuing. You were staying to the left to get by. Easy pass express lanes, yes, they point southbound, but they put you in a delay well before the breakaway point. So be prepared and you've got about a mile backlog to join that delay. So route one has been the alternate of choice. That is no longer an original idea. Joining 95 to go southbound from either the centerport Parkway, 17 or any other exits south of this, get you in past the issue and are a better alternative. Nothing has been reported as of late on 66 to get you to 17, keep that in mind. And across the Potomac using 3.301 at the nice Mac Middleton bridge and through southern Maryland, no incidents have been reported there. The only incident was a northbound three O one crash near Chad's Ford. That was along the right side. The only incident on the beltway was clear to the shoulder, the outer loop, past Connecticut, closer to three 55, watch out along the left side for the cleanup. You see flashing lights, be sure to scoot over. Southbound interstate 95 to go south on the beltway or the inner loop around the curve and on the flyover, that's where the crash has only a single lane getting by. Nothing in the northbound direction. Nothing currently reported on the Baltimore Washington Parkway. Eastbound 50 toward the bay bridge, jammed from Arnold to give to the bridge span. Where a crash was cleared, they held traffic and they have established two way travel. Elizabeth says once on the bridge moving better, it's a little sluggish to get there. "The astros in our the astros gonna come back down to earth lot of question. Probably i mean they. They i think they already did a little bit in this last series. Where were they detroit. Detroit yeah i think they split a doubleheader something then that being lost the finale anyway. They're i mean they're lost. They weren't like eleven games in a row. So they'll probably cool off a little bit though orange wagon But they still have to show that they can quite the lineup. That offense is incredible right now and they've played a couple of few series against the as and the pitching is just not been able to hold them down even oakland Which is strange. Because last year they are was lights out against them in oakland So it's i think they go there go to houston for a series before the all star break. So that'll be a chance to maybe even things out A little bit before they get to the break but In terms of what they need to do both of the bullpen. For sure. that's number one because yeah right. Now they have lou trevino at the back end and a lot of question marks. And how you it's to you know if your starter gets like five or six i mean because you saw you saw that on saturday like Montefusco five four to you in the seventh inning and became even get through the eighth without losing the lead And jake diekman was so good last year. He's given up a lot of home runs right now which is strange so he went. I think i forget what the exact number but it was something one hundred fifty games he'd given up giving up sixteen seventeen something like that petite Shaky and other than that. Those guys you know romo has been okay but the other options are just like not as reliable as you would hope so. I think they could definitely add arm or two or more back there. i mean hastings. Lozada's still kind of a wild card As to even as to what they're going to do with him because they're using it as a starter in the minors. And i think the long term goal is for him to start still. But is that this year. I don't know so yeah Pity staff definitely ask some questions And you know the offense. Their offense kind of comes and goes sometimes but they haven't gotten a lot of production out of the eight spot They signed mitch moreland. Who was going to be there left handed guy. That's really mostly what he's done. He's back to madison senate first base couple of times but he hasn't produced a whole lot And they've been using jed lowrie as they were kind of right handed Da's guy and his numbers against left handers are markedly better than his numbers. Right handers so So that's not as much of an issue but yeah maybe some. Maybe another left handed bat interesting. That's that's not quite as easy to acquire at the deadline You and i are both addressing the trade deadline in this weeks paper And the giants Far on this podcast. A couple of weekends ago for said The giants have The ability of the financial ability to take on extra payroll which is in. This price is one of the main differences. I think matt. I'm learning about covering the giants as opposed to the as they say dick and and i think they would prefer to take on salary rather than part with like a bigger prospect in if if deal but they would really like i think to get another starter who doesn't start up But particularly the way injuries are going they would love to get another starter and particularly one that maybe has some club control beyond this year Which might cost them. A you know a decent prospector to but certainly if there's a lot of salary involved the giants can handle that The question is going to be. I think belt. And if they learned something here in the next week or two about belts availability the rest of the way do they need to go out and get another bat they might have to. They have enough flexibility Among their their players their roster's constructed with so many utility guys. That doesn't necessarily have to be a first baseman. They could get a second baseman. And you save. Thomas i weighed. I got a lot of different options at first but you know without F- longoria for the short term and potentially built for much longer. I you know. I wouldn't have said about a couple of weeks ago but now i'm saying that and like everybody they'll probably be looking for a little relief help if they added one reliever. I wouldn't be shocked for on tends to do a lot of things similar to what the as front office does. And we have the front office pretty much every trade deadline. When they're in it will pick up at least one reliever so And they'll probably be fighting over some of the same guys there because those guys come a little cheaper in terms of prospects. So i think it'll be fascinating but i think the one thing i think is pretty clear is this is the first time that Citing will be running the giants when they're in a position to make a major move at the trade deadline and he's gonna do something and i think he's going to do something know i who knows yet. What big names might be out there. But i would not speed surprised to see him right in the middle of it so that should be fun. Yeah so you had something fun ish with a guy who's well known to both giants fans and and as fans and sergio romo was one of the few guys who did not particularly enjoy the first go round of spot checks more than everybody else. Maybe he did enjoy more seriously or not as serious. Did take it to the next level. what was what was that like. And what did he say. After dropping trowel on the first day was much. It was weird it was like after the first few. What's the first few like really intently. And you've i mean you've been. Have you been a globally field the globe global so you know how high up the press box boxes. It's like you're at the top of airplane. Hangar and all the players look like ants. Yes so like we watched the first few checks pretty intently just to see what was going right and no big deal so you kind of looking at a corner of your eye. So he finishes the sending. It's a it's a real lopsided game too so you know you're kinda turn right at the same time so i'm just kinda having to look up and just seem like drop the pants and like i think surgery And i don't think there was the tv like had cut away. I think at that point. So i wasn't like seeing any immediate replays but it's like i think he's traffic and he did In he explained we didn't talk to the game but the next on the field and he explained like. I said like i didn't plan on doing that I was kind of pissed kind of angry. Because i gave up a home run and i like made a bad pitch. Give up a home run. And then i'm walking off the mountain and all of a sudden the part comes up and says let me see your gloves. So he was like a glove. Here's my hat. Here's bill and let me just go ahead and open up the rest so i think it's been an isolated incident so far. Yeah i have. No i have not seen any other actual pants dropping. Um which is probably the best But yeah he.

"The astros in our the astros gonna come back down to earth lot of question. Probably i mean they. They i think they already did a little bit in this last series. Where were they detroit detroit. I think they split a doubleheader something. Then that being lost the finale. Anyway they're i mean they're lost. They weren't like eleven games in a row. So they'll probably cool off a little bit though orange wagon But they still have to show that they can quite the lineup. I mean the that offense is incredible right now and they've played a couple of few series against the as and the pitching is just not been able to hold them down even oakland Which is strange because last year they are pitching was lights out against them in oakland So it's i think they go there go to houston for a series before the all star break. So that'll be a chance to maybe even things out A little bit before they get to the break but In terms of what they need to do both of the bullpen. For sure. that's number one because yeah right. Now they have lou trevino at the back end and a lot of question marks. And how you it's to you know if your starter gets like five or six i mean because you saw you saw that on saturday like Montefusco five four two in the seventh inning and became even get through the eighth without losing lead And jake diekman was so good. Last year. he's given up a lot of home runs right now which is strange so he went. I think i forget what the exact number but it was something one hundred fifty games he'd given up giving up sixteen seventeen something like that petite Shaky and other than that. Those guys you know romo has been okay but the other options are just like not as reliable as you would hope so. I think they could definitely add arm or two or more back there i mean hayseeds. Lozada's still kind of a wild card As to even as to what they're going to do with him because they're using it as a starter in the minors. And i think the long term goal is for him to start still but is that this year i don't know so yeah Pity staff definitely ask some questions And you know the offense. Their offense kind of comes and goes sometimes but they haven't gotten a lot of production out of the eight spot They signed mitch moreland. Who was going to be there left handed guy. That's really mostly what he's done. He's back to meddle senate first base couple of times but he hasn't produced a whole lot And they've been using jed lowrie as they were kind of right handed Da's guy and his numbers against left handers are markedly better than his numbers. They have enough flexibility Among their their players the roster's constructed with so many utility guys. That doesn't necessarily have to be a first baseman. They could get a second baseman. And you save. Thomas i weighed. I got a lot of different options at first but you know without F- longoria for the short term and potentially built for much longer i. I wouldn't have said about a couple of weeks ago. But now i'm saying that and like everybody they'll probably be looking for a little relief help if they added one reliever. And then i'm walking off the mountain and all of a sudden the park comes up and says let me see your gloves. So he was like a glove. Here's my hat. "Way to bring back crawford posey which initially i'm not sure was in the plan Maybe one of the other probably posey but certainly not both of them The starting pitching has been so good. They are getting the reputation the as of had for the last few years of being a really good destination for free agent. Starters were looking to bounce back as they're very smart with kind of looking at a guys pitch mix and figuring out how to maximize said how to hone a few things had to change a few things delivery issues data things And we saw that with guzman. Last year obviously gets the big qualifying offer stays. I think they'd love to keep him beyond this year Desclafani comes in same thing. Almost exactly the same thing so The starting pitching to me has really been the biggest surprise despite a few injuries here and there. And you know some you know kuwait o. Spend a little bit up and down That they really have been good. And i think a lot of that goes to posey and kirk casali Last year catching was not a strength for the giants I'm talking like. I know like i was here. I was not but it sounds sounds as if that was not Buster posey not being there with you and you know. They had to rush bert. Chadwick trump is actually does a really nice job as a backup but curt casali is really an off. That he got dinged for no offense but guy catches six shutouts and now he's starting to hit my. Gosh that's you know. He's got to be right up there with some of the best backups in the game. He's got the second best captures. Era in baseball so And that's among all catchers not backup catcher so The guy is doing phenomenal job. And the pitchers all say this is why we're doing well. It's the catching and cat. That's the first thing kappler says so. don't often hear that You know you hear like oh all credit goes to the pitchers etc but in this case i think that the catcher certainly share at least some of the credit for how well the the pitchers are doing. How how are things on the as pitching side and what. I really wanna ask here is. Is chris. bassett going to be an all star. He better be. I'm going to be very upset. At the i mean he's got a great case. I think as of his last start when he came out he was leading the american league in innings I think he's at six out of his last ten outings. He's completed seven innings. And that's just something. You don't really see that much anymore. Bob melvin said like seven innings. Feels like nine innings. Your started And he's he's not only like eating and he's he's pitching really well And it's kind of. I would say between him. Anaya like maniaci has had maybe some of the more dominant outings and not all of them have really resulted in In wins me at yankee stadium. He made this where he struck out. Like eleven and five and something innings and. He was just like untouchable for most of the game. in his bossi's backup It was down in the low nineties. You remember the last year saw. Its now back up hitting ninety four ninety five Basset it's just it's really hard. It's sometimes it's hard to like figure out exactly what it is. But he throws like six different pitches and he's low so funky like this is really hard to pick up and he's like changed his slider multiple times. During the season he came. He came out of spring. Saying all right. I'm gonna throw this new slider. It's gonna be great and it was great like he was getting swings and misses on sixty percent of slider and then he came out in his last outing and he was throwing the slider that was like eighty miles an hour which was hundred eighty one miles an hour which was harder four miles an hour harder than his last one. Somebody asked him after the game. Like what were you doing this. Those totally different pitch. That sounds like sunny. That sunny gray used to do that to just kind of just changed. Yeah no big deal and do and do great. Yeah and it was. I guess this slider grip. And i remember him saying this last season or during a zoom that we had where we were asking him about like a pitch grip that he had once like like. Was there ever pitch scripts that you lost. And he was telling us. Yeah in like in twenty fourteen. I had the slider. And it was great. And i lost the grip and i've never been able to find the grip again and i'm pretty sure he was talking about the. He said it was a slider that he used to throw in twenty fourteen. He's now like repurpose that grip and now he's throwing two different kinds of sliders and he scrapped cutter because right handers like murdering his cutter so yeah he just like he's doing stuff on the fly. It's working Long source it. Yeah i think he's got a great case star. I don't know who they is you're going to have on. The team is like they just release the position player voting and there was nobody even close. But you know that's fans i mean. Come on it's gotta be all olsen bassett have to make it olsen for sure acedemic. Yeah brass and also. I demand to see matt wilson and the pulmonary command. There's a good reason to not have him in the home under now. yeah. I mean like if he doesn't if he doesn't get asked and he's already said i mean we asked him. I asked me yankee stadium. Like would you do it. He's like yeah. It'd be done which i think means i would like to do it. Yeah are strong words at of course field. I mean i could. I wanna see that swimming. At course wheeled soul if he doesn't get asked that's there's something wrong man. Yeah the giants -at's well. It's a good question. Gave kappler was talking about Titled reuters today as a possibility. Not you know i. I've gotta think that crawford has got a strong shot. I've certainly i mean guzman. He guzman could start the game. Which would be fantastic. He's from the denver area He certainly but you know it's going to depend on grounds availability so you know. Maybe it's one of those. Somebody's not available to pitch. So you get or you get to start but i- guzman. I'm sure would love to start that game posey. i would think you know. He's doesn't play as much. He doesn't qualify Among the league leaders but You know if i major league baseball i would love to have crawford posey guzman for sure and you know be tolerated as they got the best record in baseball they should have you know more than two all stars i would think but never know. There is You know we we see an awful lot of yankees red sox and dodgers bias therefore they with like finalists or whatever they were out say there were quite a few. "Hello and welcome to a combined episode of the giants slash podcast and the as plus podcast. I'm your host crinkle giants beat writer susan's lesser and i am joined by as beat writer. Matt kawahara the bay bridge series has just concluded matt. What are your takeaways. After the three games at oracle park is side i would say main one is the bullpen is definitely an issue right now They probably had a. They had a good chance of winning that second game and could not close it out with two separate leads in the late innings. So that's an issue The encouraging sign was obviously in the in the Finale cooler ervin came out and pitched probably his best game of the season and best game in the majors And he came out of the gate really well This season he was kind of surprised and then went through a little bit of a lull. But that'll happen. Fishes guys who are in their first full season Starting in the major league level. So i think he is. He's kind of Rebounded and This was an encouraging thing for him. Going into the second. Half about giants the giants. You know they've just been rolling along. So i think you know they kid sweep but how often to sweep especially good team like the as you know the as were leading The al west much of the season until the astros look like they apparently caught fire and So yeah i think. They're very happy with with their homestand. They've won their last twelve. They still have the best record in the major leagues. They were the first team to fifty wins. i'm not sure anybody saw that coming. But i i asked. Bob melvin issue before the game today and he didn't seem all that surprised You know looking at the division before the season. I don't think anybody would have thought the giants would be where they are with the dodgers and the padres in the same division And now the giants hit the road and goats to play the dodgers. Just two games at dodger stadium. They have played the dodgers well but You know we're almost at the halfway part point of the season. They are in first place but they have tons of injuries. They still have got major names on the i l. And you know things like they don't know if brandon belt is going to be back at all much less win with that knee injury and he scheduled to see to specialists this week. So there's a lot going on with them but no matter what happens they seem to bounce back and play really well in those first two games you know. I think everybody saw especially in the second game. I walk off win of the season. Which seems weird when they have to be a good record but There is always the sense with them Like good teams often get like no matter how far they're down. They're going to somehow come back and win and they're doing it with guys like lamont weight and curt casali. Which is that's truly remarkable thing. It's really been very much a team effort How are the as when it comes to things like they're filling. I don't think they've had been hit with quite the same kind of injury levels that the giants have. But how have they been from kind of like their bench guys depth piece kind of perspective. You have the depth is an instant. It's will you said there about the giants and kind of wake never feeling quite out of a game. That's i mean you will know that the as done that for many years and they have a little bit of that To i think they were recently leading the major leagues in. Walk off win so they definitely had that sort of a formula at home Depth was they're getting tested a little bit right on the outfield. They have managed to mostly avoid kind major injuries. They were without ramon laureano for maybe two and a half weeks or so. But they manage to Mitigate that pretty well right now there without mark cana and that's a pretty major loss for them. Yeah because he's been. I mean he. Obviously he's filled in leadoff spot and just really done a pretty remarkable job for a guy who really never hit leadoff before And so they're kind of having to fill both Both his outfield spot and also kind of figured out. What they're gonna do at the lido spot. Tony kemp has been huge for them. his Ability to get on base for this first half is has been pretty remarkable for guys who really just has never or at least not in recent years had sustained Playtime and he has made the most of it for sure and it has not only been just like scrap elite. Getting on base. Amis played good defense. He's play both the outfield and second base chad. Pinder is also that versatile guy even though offensively he hasn't made as big of an impact is probably the expected him to have so. There has been okay I don't think they've necessarily. I mean it seems like the giants make a lot of moves like they'll dip into the minor league the aaa Pool a lot as really haven't done that So far and i don't maybe that's a little bit telling i mean i think it's partly because they feel Pretty confident in the mix that they've had for the first half but i also don't know where exactly that would go if they are going to look at it would depend on. You know needs specific. But i mean right now again to go back to the bullpen. And you seem like they. They could probably use a little bit of help there. But there's just nobody like really knocking on doors. So wha- what i was i was curious about the giants like i mean you talk about. Just the way that they have seemingly Surprised everybody what do they have to do stain. I mean to to get off to a hot surly. This so well they. They need better health. And they need to get evan longoria at the very least off the i l. fairly soon. I don't think they're looking at anytime. Before the all-star break but you know with him out list stella out and belts at potentially indefinitely You know at some point. They're they're gonna and they have to avoid injuries to crawford posey the other sort of big name guys. The one thing that was really remarkable about the giants early was. How will the veteran guys who are playing. Because i think there was this feeling like okay. Here are all these veteran guys. They're kind of at the end of their careers You know on the downward slope the giants are going to get rid of all this payroll in the off season and their two best players by far have been crawford and posey and longoria not far behind them and in fact the first month or so the season he was Probably the most reliable hitter so That they've been very careful with posey. He still missed a couple of games this week with the back thing crawford you know never once. He's a lot like marcus siemian. he never wants to come out. Lineup ever And there's a lot of thought certainly amongst scouts that he kinda wears down in the second half and i think they need to be careful of that but he's just not going to willingly take a day And they don't you know. They've got mauricio de bon of their backup shortstop and he is a shortstop but he also plays center. You know he kind of a lot of places we learned this week. "The bay bridge series has just concluded matt. Half about giants The giants you know. They've just been rolling along. So wha- what i was i was curious about the honestly i mean you talk about. Just the way that they have seemingly Surprised everybody what do they have to do stain. I mean to to get off to a hot surly. This so well they. They need better health. And they need to get evan longoria at the very least off the i l. fairly soon. I don't think they're looking at anytime. Before the all-star break but you know with him out list stella out and belts out potentially indefinitely You know at some point. They're they're gonna and they have to avoid injuries to crawford posey the other sort of big name guys. The one thing that was really remarkable about the giants early was. How will the veteran guys who are playing there. Was this feeling like okay. They've got mauricio de bon as sort of their backup shortstop and he is a shortstop but he also plays center. You know he of backs up a lot of places we learned this week. He's their emergency catcher so Crawford's probably not gonna get a lot of days and they you know if he were to get hurt their they really would have some problems so Yeah they've been surprising all the way around the fact that the veterans have been so good To the point where now looks like the giants actually probably are going to have to figure out a.

"Game when i say bay bridge rush hour. Wouldn't you say frustration anxiety. Regret that. I didn't take part. Doom gloom and misery. You start to see whether cars are flying pastor. There's already traffic building up. It's either hope or horrible disappointment stopping in going and stopping and going all that goes through your mind. Is i am trapped with cars on every side of me and the last time i saw a video of this baby is it was collapsing in an earthquake. Paralyzing terror it's been a while since some of us have experienced the type of rush hour traffic that was normal pre pandemic but traffic is getting bad again and when the car is start to pile up those metering lights an old idea often resurfaces build another bay bridge. As soon as the bay bridge was completed in the nineteen thirties. People wanted a second bridge even back then. Traffic was terrible. Did you know the great american architect. Frank lloyd. Wright designed a bridge across the san francisco. Bay duncan keith of san jose did he studied in school. It would have been brilliant. And i think it would have been very influential and possibly change. The course of how other bridges subsequent to it would have been designed but rights vision for that. Second bridge never materialized. Dunkin wants to know why not today on the show. We're bringing you an episode that first aired in january of two thousand eighteen when even senator dianne feinstein was talking about a second bay bridge. I'm katrina schwartz. And you're listening to bay. Curious support for bay curious comes from sierra. Nevada brewing company family owned operated and argued over since nineteen eighty proud supporter of independent thought. Whether that's online over the air or in a bottle more at sierra nevada dot com cake you at silicon valley senior editor. Rachel myrow takes us back to the bridge. That never was frank lloyd. Wright loved the bay area. But you wouldn't know it because there just aren't a lot of his buildings around here seven or eight depending on how you count them including the houses. That's paul turner a professor emeritus in architectural history at stanford. He's the author of frank. Lloyd wright and san francisco a book. That's as much about the projects that didn't get built as the ones that did frank. Lloyd wright actually designed close to thirty projects for the bay area and they include some of his most unusual and then really amazing of buildings for example. His first skyscraper was designed for market street in san francisco. But right never got the commission. I san francisco skyscraper just as he never got a commission to design another bay bridge in the late nineteen forties. Right was competing for projects all across the country. A bay area engineer and fan of rights suggested he throw his hat in the ring for proposed second bay bridge. If there was some project that he found interesting he would do the design and then just hope it would get bill and he could promoted. You'd hoping we'll get that was in nineteen forty nine and right would spend the rest of his life the last decade trying to win over decision makers in california because he fell in love with his own proposal which he called the butterfly bridge the structure had the form of the action wings of a butterfly in reinforced concrete news. It's beautiful sculptural form when you look at the drawings that he did. I can't say. I see the butterfly in the butterfly bridge. I say well this is a family program. Okay from overhead. It looks like a giant lady. Parts suspended in the center of two concrete strings. Of course you can't sell a branch calling it. That or can you. Let's all visualized together that. We're watching promotional drone footage. We lift off from the san francisco end of the bridge at the terminus of army street now. Cesar chavez long curved concrete arms stretch across the water towards oakland carrying six lanes of traffic and two pedestrian walkways two arches that the roadways for the bridge separated the center and supported a hanging garden. People driving across the bridge could pull off into this landscape park and enjoy the views of from hypol- kind of crazy idea. That traffic going across the bay would stop. And there'd be enough room for parking and but that was the idea but right couldn't get the state to adopt the plan. The engineers in sacramento. We're able to say well. It's just not worked out in enough detail. We don't think it's gonna work it's too radical and very much but no thanks exactly and of course no bridge was was was built at all they ultimately they decided it wasn't necessary because a few years later people started talking about barred under the bay and so that became the solution to this traffic. Right call that idea suicidal which will turns out to be. An overstatement is the transbay tube is still going strong after more than forty years. But even as he neared the end of his life right never stopped trying to sell his bridge here. He is in his mid eighties making a pitch on k. Picks tv nine thousand nine hundred fifty three like construction on. It also seems to undulate doesn't as as well the water and reflection is needed to complete video of the ridge in the end right died and with it serious thoughts of doing something with his plans especially after the new expanded san mateo bridge opened in nineteen sixty seven every now and then for if people talk about an extra pasha bridge now stories in which bay bridge still captivates the imagination of of the public because it is so beautiful. That story was from k. Q. e. d. silicon valley senior editor. Rachael myrow so what does our question. Asker duncan keith of san jose. What does he think. Should we resurrect frank lloyd. Wright's butterfly bridge. As much as i would like to see this bridge have been built. That was for a different time. These days we're gonna make any investment it ought to be in transportation and getting trains across the bay not cars. We have enough cars already and you know throwing more cars across the bay just going to make the traffic situation on the peninsula and san francisco wars. You can check out photos of rights plans for yourself at bay curious dot org and hey while you're there be sure to cast a ballot and our latest voting round or send us a question. You've wondering about this. Show runs your curiosity bay. Curious is produced by susie rancho brennan willard and meek trina schwartz. Our show is a production of member supported. Achey in san francisco next week. Hello hello hello. My name is doris harsh. And i'm the host of right. Now we got something for you a new series highlighting how wheels community in culture come together in this very unique way here in the bay. California is car country. Everyone knows that. In addition to cars this part of the world is home to bikers skateboarders folks in wheelchairs if it goes around and get you there. It's on the table. Follow the right now. Is podcast to listen to that besides..

Box truck goes over Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel rail, Coast Guard suspends search for person possibly in water

"Box truck drove through the guard rails on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel earlier today and went over the side into the bay. The Coast Guard and firefighters have been searching the cold water for the driver, Wavy TV and Norfolk says it happened near Virginia's Eastern shore about a 20. If you've ever taken this bridge, it's almost 18 miles long, two tunnels for shipping traffic and it connects the Eastern shore with Virginia Beach. This wasn't the first card to go over the side. The Suitcase Murder

"My name is Meghan Sacks criminologist at Fairleigh Dickinson University. In simplest terms criminology is the scientific study of what causes crime and how the criminal justice system. Response. To crime. Ridden about twenty, five true crime books over the years and I think many maguire is perhaps one of the most interesting ones and baffling. This is Melanie. McGuire arrested today minutes after dropping offer children in daycare. Melanie, McGuire a New Jersey nurse was accused of killing her husband cutting up his body and throwing it into the Chesapeake Bay. In two thousand, seven, what was being called? The suitcase murder trial was generating an enormous amount of media attention, not just in New Jersey, but all across the country three bazaar discoveries, three separate suitcases, all containing human remains the woman who is on trial for her very life. She says the real truth behind the crime has never been revealed with no history of violence and no apparent motive for murder. Could she really have done it? She was this beautiful young nurse and they were the seemingly normal middle class couple and the murder happened in such a grisly way. The idea that this beautiful nurse could have actually killed her husband and then cut him up is just incredible. Of course, they were salacious aspects. Maguire is a nurse and prosecutors say she had an affair with a doctor. She didn't fit the profile I. Guess of a murderer over the years and colleagues of ours have come to me and said, you know Melanie McGuire proclaims her innocence and to tell her story I started thinking Oh maybe there is a little more to this case than what you see on the surface and then the idea podcast came up and I was all in on direct appeal examined the murder conviction of Melanie, McGuire him following a highly publicized trial looking at the evidence that was presented and the evidence that may have seemed insignificant at the time before own conclusion about Melanie's guilt. We hear at ABC have our own history with the Melanie. McGuire case back in two thousand, seven ABC's Cynthia McFadden had the first on camera interview at the mother of two on trial for murdering her husband. Who was the Melanie? McGuire you hope to jury. knows. The one who tried to take care of everybody. Who didn't make the smartest decisions but admitted to those mistakes? To the people she trusted most. But. Did Not admit what what she's acute stuff. I have been incarcerated for twelve and a half going on thirteen years now. Do. You still insist that you're innocent. Absolutely. You're sitting here. A wrongfully convicted person. Correct. Absolutely and what have those years spend like? I tell people. It's not as bad as you think in some ways and it's so much worse than I could ever articulate in others. After all these years I. Still feel her I still feel bothered. I still feel like how could somebody think? That I did that. This whole saga begins on May. Fifth two thousand four with an odd discovery in Virginia Beach. Early morning a couple of fishermen and the kids are out on a boat by the Chesapeake Bay. Me and my friend Don Connors was going to go out fishing and we both had days off D. or Don. We Call Them D. said, keep his kids out of school. We're GONNA take him fishing. Everybody was excited. We went right out this bridge here. and to keep on going you run right in the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. In the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel is seventeen and a half miles long. It really is quite astonishing. It connects the eastern shore of Virginia to Virginia Beach has two tunnels, two shipping channels, and then once you get on the other side, you go North into Maryland Delaware New Jersey.

"Traffic I never order in our storm team four forty four cast including some severe weather this morning man of the theme is but wait there's more it was the warning is now for our southern Maryland listeners most of St Mary's county and the southern half of Calvert county you will have the latest severe thunderstorm warning in effect until nine fifteen in particular near Avenue and letter town and they can next bill towards St letter to towards the Bayshore all the way down to about Lexington park and just to the north of Saint Mary's city if you're within that area you have this a new severe thunderstorm warning until nine fifteen a very heavy rainfall maybe some small hail but the most important the damaging wind gusts of a good sixty miles per hour and of course this line has been marching across listening area has a lot of history of with the wind damage a today otherwise the morning that was in effect for prince George's county has now been dropped just a few minutes early if it's now moved out of prince George's county no warning get for in a rental county but none the less on fifty three oh one some very heavy rain gear Crofton and also in your bill we just to the north were bearing down on Davidsonville rather and its racing towards the bay bridge should be reaching the bay bridge itself by about nine ten about nine fifteen this morning this line goes all the way up over Baltimore and of course down towards the nice bridge again if you were a long and west of I ninety five including the capital beltway now you were clear of the severe weather threat you're just getting some lingering rain showers and the falling temperatures is a pretty strong cold front other got rid of the dense fog this morning but it's also caused the severe weather temperatures if you're still in the fifties right now don't get used to them as they say temperatures will be falling to the forties the rest of the day many of us already have done that for the rest of the day watch for those falling temperatures overnight tonight partly cloudy skies low to mid thirties for lows a blustery night tonight especially by comparison and then for tomorrow over the weekend Saturday looks like highs in the low to mid forties same numbers for Sunday and then Monday the next round of rain will be arriving highs then will be in the low to mid fifties down way down to forty six in Haymarket still sixteen Crofton temporarily and it's down to fifty four at Washington Reagan national map the storms were moving through so quickly yes they have and and and that's one reason why we're getting severe weather because the winds aloft along this front the temperature contrast around along this front because of the very strong winds also helping to move this line very quickly from west the east the only positive thing I could think about that is that's helping to mitigate the flood threat at this thing was moving up very very slowly we be having some flash flooding right now publicly in pretty quickly from west to east looking forward to having it added here Matt thank you

"I feel like we were here. We were just having this conversation about the Rams ten minutes ago. We were here Saturday morning, ten AM to one PM. We add the Rams pregame show followed by the post game show. I'm the Rams took down the raiders in their home game for the raiders this weekend. It was good for the Rams that win on the road and the preseason in Los Angeles. It's funny, and the Rams have done a really good job of reintroducing themselves to the city and the best way they can do it. Well, the second best way, the best way they're gonna be able to do it is with that new stadium. Now everybody's going to be excited about that, right? But the second best way that they can do it in conjunction with the new stadium is to be good, which we expect them to be. So that's that's good news as well. And this is not a slight at the Rams in any way at all. The raiders are still argue the most popular football team in this
