"Game when i say bay bridge rush hour. Wouldn't you say frustration anxiety. Regret that. I didn't take part. Doom gloom and misery. You start to see whether cars are flying pastor. There's already traffic building up. It's either hope or horrible disappointment stopping in going and stopping and going all that goes through your mind. Is i am trapped with cars on every side of me and the last time i saw a video of this baby is it was collapsing in an earthquake. Paralyzing terror it's been a while since some of us have experienced the type of rush hour traffic that was normal pre pandemic but traffic is getting bad again and when the car is start to pile up those metering lights an old idea often resurfaces build another bay bridge. As soon as the bay bridge was completed in the nineteen thirties. People wanted a second bridge even back then. Traffic was terrible. Did you know the great american architect. Frank lloyd. Wright designed a bridge across the san francisco. Bay duncan keith of san jose did he studied in school. It would have been brilliant. And i think it would have been very influential and possibly change. The course of how other bridges subsequent to it would have been designed but rights vision for that. Second bridge never materialized. Dunkin wants to know why not today on the show. We're bringing you an episode that first aired in january of two thousand eighteen when even senator dianne feinstein was talking about a second bay bridge. I'm katrina schwartz. And you're listening to bay. Curious support for bay curious comes from sierra. Nevada brewing company family owned operated and argued over since nineteen eighty proud supporter of independent thought. Whether that's online over the air or in a bottle more at sierra nevada dot com cake you at silicon valley senior editor. Rachel myrow takes us back to the bridge. That never was frank lloyd. Wright loved the bay area. But you wouldn't know it because there just aren't a lot of his buildings around here seven or eight depending on how you count them including the houses. That's paul turner a professor emeritus in architectural history at stanford. He's the author of frank. Lloyd wright and san francisco a book. That's as much about the projects that didn't get built as the ones that did frank. Lloyd wright actually designed close to thirty projects for the bay area and they include some of his most unusual and then really amazing of buildings for example. His first skyscraper was designed for market street in san francisco. But right never got the commission. I san francisco skyscraper just as he never got a commission to design another bay bridge in the late nineteen forties. Right was competing for projects all across the country. A bay area engineer and fan of rights suggested he throw his hat in the ring for proposed second bay bridge. If there was some project that he found interesting he would do the design and then just hope it would get bill and he could promoted. You'd hoping we'll get that was in nineteen forty nine and right would spend the rest of his life the last decade trying to win over decision makers in california because he fell in love with his own proposal which he called the butterfly bridge the structure had the form of the action wings of a butterfly in reinforced concrete news. It's beautiful sculptural form when you look at the drawings that he did. I can't say. I see the butterfly in the butterfly bridge. I say well this is a family program. Okay from overhead. It looks like a giant lady. Parts suspended in the center of two concrete strings. Of course you can't sell a branch calling it. That or can you. Let's all visualized together that. We're watching promotional drone footage. We lift off from the san francisco end of the bridge at the terminus of army street now. Cesar chavez long curved concrete arms stretch across the water towards oakland carrying six lanes of traffic and two pedestrian walkways two arches that the roadways for the bridge separated the center and supported a hanging garden. People driving across the bridge could pull off into this landscape park and enjoy the views of from hypol- kind of crazy idea. That traffic going across the bay would stop. And there'd be enough room for parking and but that was the idea but right couldn't get the state to adopt the plan. The engineers in sacramento. We're able to say well. It's just not worked out in enough detail. We don't think it's gonna work it's too radical and very much but no thanks exactly and of course no bridge was was was built at all they ultimately they decided it wasn't necessary because a few years later people started talking about barred under the bay and so that became the solution to this traffic. Right call that idea suicidal which will turns out to be. An overstatement is the transbay tube is still going strong after more than forty years. But even as he neared the end of his life right never stopped trying to sell his bridge here. He is in his mid eighties making a pitch on k. Picks tv nine thousand nine hundred fifty three like construction on. It also seems to undulate doesn't as as well the water and reflection is needed to complete video of the ridge in the end right died and with it serious thoughts of doing something with his plans especially after the new expanded san mateo bridge opened in nineteen sixty seven every now and then for if people talk about an extra pasha bridge now stories in which bay bridge still captivates the imagination of of the public because it is so beautiful. That story was from k. Q. e. d. silicon valley senior editor. Rachael myrow so what does our question. Asker duncan keith of san jose. What does he think. Should we resurrect frank lloyd. Wright's butterfly bridge. As much as i would like to see this bridge have been built. That was for a different time. These days we're gonna make any investment it ought to be in transportation and getting trains across the bay not cars. We have enough cars already and you know throwing more cars across the bay just going to make the traffic situation on the peninsula and san francisco wars. You can check out photos of rights plans for yourself at bay curious dot org and hey while you're there be sure to cast a ballot and our latest voting round or send us a question. "My name is Meghan Sacks criminologist at Fairleigh Dickinson University. In simplest terms criminology is the scientific study of what causes crime and how the criminal justice system. Response. To crime. Ridden about twenty, five true crime books over the years and I think many maguire is perhaps one of the most interesting ones and baffling. This is Melanie. McGuire arrested today minutes after dropping offer children in daycare. Melanie, McGuire a New Jersey nurse was accused of killing her husband cutting up his body and throwing it into the Chesapeake Bay. In two thousand, seven, what was being called? The suitcase murder trial was generating an enormous amount of media attention, not just in New Jersey, but all across the country three bazaar discoveries, three separate suitcases, all containing human remains the woman who is on trial for her very life. She says the real truth behind the crime has never been revealed with no history of violence and no apparent motive for murder. Could she really have done it? She was this beautiful young nurse and they were the seemingly normal middle class couple and the murder happened in such a grisly way. The idea that this beautiful nurse could have actually killed her husband and then cut him up is just incredible. Of course, they were salacious aspects. Maguire is a nurse and prosecutors say she had an affair with a doctor. She didn't fit the profile I. Guess of a murderer over the years and colleagues of ours have come to me and said, you know Melanie McGuire proclaims her innocence and to tell her story I started thinking Oh maybe there is a little more to this case than what you see on the surface and then the idea podcast came up and I was all in on direct appeal examined the murder conviction of Melanie, McGuire him following a highly publicized trial looking at the evidence that was presented and the evidence that may have seemed insignificant at the time before own conclusion about Melanie's guilt. We hear at ABC have our own history with the Melanie. McGuire case back in two thousand, seven ABC's Cynthia McFadden had the first on camera interview at the mother of two on trial for murdering her husband. Who was the Melanie? McGuire you hope to jury. knows. The one who tried to take care of everybody. Who didn't make the smartest decisions but admitted to those mistakes? To the people she trusted most. But. Did Not admit what what she's acute stuff. I have been incarcerated for twelve and a half going on thirteen years now. Do. You still insist that you're innocent. Absolutely. You're sitting here. A wrongfully convicted person. Correct. Absolutely and what have those years spend like? I tell people. It's not as bad as you think in some ways and it's so much worse than I could ever articulate in others. After all these years I. Still feel her I still feel bothered. I still feel like how could somebody think? That I did that. This whole saga begins on May. Fifth two thousand four with an odd discovery in Virginia Beach. Early morning a couple of fishermen and the kids are out on a boat by the Chesapeake Bay. Me and my friend Don Connors was going to go out fishing and we both had days off D. or Don. We Call Them D. said, keep his kids out of school. We're GONNA take him fishing. Everybody was excited. We went right out this bridge here. and to keep on going you run right in the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. In the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel is seventeen and a half miles long. It really is quite astonishing. It connects the eastern shore of Virginia to Virginia Beach has two tunnels, two shipping channels, and then once you get on the other side, you go North into Maryland Delaware New Jersey.

"Lineup. And I know proffered and bell you know have you know had better days but? Other than Solano and Stransky there's really nobody in the giants line a WHO could crack the as lineup right now in Solano having a much better year I. Mean. Camp gets on quite a bit second base what Solano's hitting almost five hundred you know fifteen straight games hitting and stransky versus. Any outfielder out there because he plays anywhere I would say he might crack that lineup but really nobody else and you know the pitching on the as obviously better. So this is this is a case where the as are just extremely. Higher level and you know other than last year in a how far back you have goes where the as were. So dominant over the giants and the giants. You Know I. Remember the as Kinda. Wanted to be the giants. They wanted that big payroll they wanted that ballpark well, no, the giants won't be as 'cause they're going edit in an analytic way and trying to do the things the as kind of helped events, and it's going to be a long journey because this is an organization that was built on scout since. Brian Sabin. Bruce Bochy, doing the way they did and they did it very successfully but now it's the new wave and they're really far behind. Yeah, that's a good point. I I honestly going from the age facing the angels line-up to face in the giants lineup that's going to be A. Fairly Stark Difference Henry. If you want predictions, I think the same thing I'm GonNa. Say His as take two of the three because my nyas been so shaky but. Yeah, they can piggyback and pretty easily if he gets in trouble early as have plenty in the bullpen so on coming off a day off. It could be a sweep. John's answer was so long I forgot that I asked for predictions map. Three cents I mean Guzman was pretty tough last time. Not sure as a rough outing couple nights ago against a Dylan Bundy I. Know a little bit different but they've had some trouble against starters on early goings I think they've had four games where they haven't scored until. The Middle Four fifth sixth inning against start bitching so that definitely started safar. I ought to go giants two out of three for a couple of reasons just one the crazy nature of this series over the years. And also, the giants are finally committed to putting a belt Ubon Crawford in Longoria out there every day and that really I mean they're doing it not for the offense they're doing it for the defense and So I'm just going to be contrary and I had a question for Matt that has nothing to do with anything regarding the series Matt Matt as a young dude. If you don't, you can't you know I mean I think you're you're in your twenties right still now third clearly. You're one of that new breed who actually liked type standing up, which is actually I hear it's wonderful for your posture in your back, and actually we have older people at the chronicle are like before we had to start working at home who copy editors who are in their fifty s.

"Lesser is here Matt Kawahara is here. I Henry Shulman and here. Matt Kawahara you used to cover the giants and the as both. When you work for the Sacramento Bee, you didn't travel on the road you went from you went from the giants of when they were home to the as when they were home you covered Bruce Bochy on one end you covered Bob Melvin on the other end to completely different teams. What was that like and let's be honest you get nobody's listening to this, which did you like covering more? A. Very. Does a little question of it. What was very different because I in in the middle then in the wake of the giants run of the three, thousand, five years. So I think there were still for a couple years anyway there was still sorta that like honeymoon period or sort of everything was. Still. A lot of the same guys in a lot of the same healing there, and I felt coverage sampling sometimes like the as were a little bit more accessible. Sometimes, it was a different make team. I mean they had a lot of allowed turnover Younger guys they always bring up a bunch of guys during the season. So you get a lot of younger guys at the net clubhouse in. It was it felt like a little bit more of inaccessible team to to get to know but Yeah it's it's interesting being there now I. Think. Trying to remember. Is, it was about a two and a half year gap for three years where wasn't covering baseball I'm trying to remember who was there at that when Melvin Obviously Marquis Simeon I think was there marquette? But it's it's a lot of turnover. So all the cal guys is that what you're saying, Minnesota Calgary. I remember having. A Nice podcast with us with a Stanford Guy. So you've gotta be proud for that. Is Big here you thank you. I thought so. So giants in as I'm looking this up-to-date over over the course of interleague play since they began. Sixty and sixty four for the giants sixty, four and sixty for the as obviously. The giants took three or four last year. I don't remember how they did that and over the last ten years exactly twenty, five and twenty five. So I'm guessing look it. I mean, do these teams really get up for each other? Do they really care? I mean I. Hear them talk about this babble other bay and how Are they just saying I mean? Yeah, the top level sure they do you know and cavill ruffled a lot of feathers with hollows. Fan Things to to get people into it, and you know that whole nonsense with charging giants fans for the park. But I think on a player from a player's standpoint, I don't know of anybody season interleague series as like a real rivalry. You know they WANNA win every game but. They don't see the giants that much except for spring training and it doesn't really factor that much in into their real quests, which is to make the playoffs and and go on it especially now that it's shorter, you know there there are fewer Inter, Inter Division Games you know why?.

"Right now. I have giants questions by go ahead for you guys I only pay attention. I'll be honest to giants in in the as our What is going on with Kappler? I keep seeing headlines about decisions and where is he has a manager right now the. For what they are trying to accomplish what kind of job is he doing? Well I mean first of all he he came into the job with the you know the Q. Rating of Godzilla I mean we already had three strikes against him. And then he made like you know he's made some questionable pitching decisions he I mean he went and Cueto would throw a no hitter and he lost it in the six anyone underpants lost a ball in the sun and and Cueto kept giving it up and he had a bunny not not abundant. What do you call? It are something on his big toe and he was in clear pain and he led him in a cap. Let him stay in and then I just internally at a bomb and the giants ended up winning that game but. There, he might have left quite. Oh, into long. And then the next day Kevin Guzman who actually did throw out the quality start John. GALS. Men was pitching. Shutout into the seventh inning I think it was and You know after eighty pitches, he took him out An and claimed that. It was because he had been up and down seven times and it was a hot day and the you know the fans didn't really by that. So he left the game and then it all kind of went kabalu he brought Tyler Rogers. Rogers gave up a three-run bomb to AJ pollock and then they lost and and then with Logan Webby kept them in. You know after throwing thirty six pitches in one inning seventy pitches in three, and so he's gotten some grief for his Pitch Management and it's just it. It's because he that was his the knock against him in Philly so we already came in with that reputation. You Know I. Think. He's done an okay job given the fact that he has no no experience in his bullpen. The organization purposely decided that they weren't gonNA. Let starters go deep into games to start the season. You know the lineups lineups he's written. Ed Been Okay. I. Mean he got some grief for. Sticking with hunter pants you know too long and intense comes up and you know basically wins the game for them the other night in Houston so I think it's kind of too early to say, I don't know what to get accomplished this season what I mean they they're still rebuilding phase obviously, pretty much everyone makes the play offs says here is that the focus or is it relate just get an experience in a short season for all these guys going forward? Well, it's a fine line between rebuilding and having the other guys play out their careers I mean they got all these championship. folks who have two or three rings and Santa all belts and.

"And he you know he still hasn't been suspended I mean he on I l. when he just finally after like weeks got his appeal heard and you know he got knocked down to five games, which is now actually a game less than Laureano. Why? Why did Laureano get you know get his so so quickly and Did. Did the as want him to serve it against the giants because it was like a good time to serve I think the as would like him to be serving at during interleague play. So giants and then they've got Arizona coming up next week. So whatever the amount of the suspension on a highly suspect, it will get knocked down from six to four. They wanted it not against the division and I think MLB does look at that incident and understand clearly what happened there was an instigator, the Astros hitting coach Alex Cheung and. On a really what's pretty much provoked into that and I think the fact that the appeal is being heard quickly and the suspension might be served in games that don't necessarily kill the as in potentially in the division Maybe an indication of the fact that the League is going like, yeah, you know what? Not Not really this guy's fault shouldn't have done and corona virus age. The safety protocols are hugely clear severe punishment that will not be paraded based on a shortened season but in this case, there's absolutely No question who started that whole thing. Stop talking that So yeah I mean if If one of the, if one of you guys like said, something about my mother, I would come through this zoom right now and I would I would I would get suspended for a couple of weeks. You know it's it's almost like perfect. You coach suspended for Twenty Games like what's to stop him from getting on the phone and telling a Guy Hey, you know you're you're leaning out with your front shoulder a provoked a guy who was like their division rival and you know and he's GonNa. Lose. Games in the field not that the astros looked like there. Any great shakes.

"Four, twenty, nine to fifty nine. He gets on base all the time but. The at that's enough. That's it. That's all you gotTa do meanwhile Donovan Solano has a lower on percentage than batting average because of the sacrifice fly, I just brought up the the suspension thing why is it that Joe Kelley got to wait like I mean he he Joe Kelley through it all those astros like it seems like about two months ago and you know he he still hasn't been suspended I mean he is on I l. and he just finally after like weeks got his appeal hurt and you know he got knocked down to five games, which is now actually a game less than Laureano. Why did Laureano get get his so quickly and? Did the as want him to serve it against the giants because it was like a good time to serve I. Think the as would like him to be serving at during interleague play. So giants and then they've got Arizona coming up next week. So whatever the amount of the suspension and highly suspect it will get knocked down from six to four. Astros looked like any great shakes I. Don't know. Yeah. It's a cynic might say. Perhaps, there was a little bit more intention there than just provoke that it. They essentially got the guy that one guy that had been playing well for their top division rival, which was slowly starting to pull away from them. They got him popped with a suspension so. I. Don't know if the Astros have any sort of history of doing anything untoward like that. That would lead to any suspicious, but you know head. But that's just what a cynic might say John I don't know John we covered boat last three giants Astros Games and I, didn't hear any trash cans banging but they didn't take anything that was outside of.

Who might be the giants best starter right now versus Mnaya on on Sunday you guys as guys want to weigh in on this pitching that the have had. Well. Yeah. Out of the. The rotation on paper looks tremendous in practice mnaya actually has been a little bit of the weak link He started off the season in a very strange rut where he was just going. Okay through the first the first time through the opposing lineup and then giving it up, and then as last time, it was basically not great from the get go. So everyone else's ferrying fairly fairly well except for fires come Nafa new, not the best start. But yeah, the the rotation theoretically is a mom among the best in baseball I would say Montas Grizz, ill player of the week list region of what is he giving up one run the last fourteen innings last he starts. So he's probably the best at anybody innovation. I gotTa ask you guys I'm sorry but. How come the as are so good with all these batting averages that are way below three hundred there's one guy hitting above two seventy. Robbie gross everybody else in the one hundreds in the low two hundreds our they get done. That's a great question home runs. John Shea. As enough over the years to know that they're not always the most diverse kind of lineup, they don't score and a lot of different ways very, very little small. We're not even seeing it with a runner on second in extra innings. Really they're swinging for the fences and you're right the one guy that's really been going most of the years Ramon Laureano, who they're probably about to lose her for your four games and probably the entire giants aged Komo's pitching bullpens been great to they played a lot of low scoring games. They've won a lot of I think wanted to run games. So spanky why I love Tony Caps the flashlight to.

The big part of the film is like the whole love story with my girlfriend and all that but i hadn't even met her when we started listen in wherever you get your podcasts wild west today on as plus we are delighted to welcome in john shea the chronicles national baseball writer. John is often a regular on this podcast podcast but we've we have not seen enough of you this year john. It's just wonderful to have you back especially with one of our favorite things coming up this week. The first in the bay bridge series the as will be at the giants tuesday and wednesday <hes>. How do you see this. You know our arcor favorite beverage series especially with the as still in contention in the giants. Maybe playing a little bit better than i think. People expected earlier in the year but but not you know maybe maybe not quite worthy as our If these teams matched up this time of year in the past two seasons only one team would have had maybe one team would have something to play for but now both teams have something to play for the giants actually in it but i mean not really because half the league is in the national league wild card race. I mean literally. There's seven teams within three and a half games and the giants have happened to be three and a half out but you know the american league. Obviously they have a lot to play for the as all all they have to do is finish one team in this race unless boston makes some kind of crazy run here in the last two months which doesn't seem likely but they'll have to to do is finish ahead of tampa bay or whoever finish the second in the central cleveland or minnesota the giants have to finish the head a bunch of teams at the league like i says involved in miss crazy nationally wild card race so there's there's something to play for and that that's pretty cool because <hes> you know oftentimes the giants finished last the last couple of years was in the ace had their bad stretch a few years ago where they weren't really in this time of year so now suddenly both teams are in it and that's that's the beauty of the wildcard because otherwise they would not be <unk>. There's a very close to first place at all yeah. It's <hes> it's always tougher when you've got a ton of teams ahead of you that you know the the baseball people always say really. It's not the number of games back. It's the number of teams ahead of you because when you have to start leapfrogging so many teams playing each other down the stretch. The math starts just to get a little complicated so obviously teams really wanted. Just go for the division. I don't think that's going to be very likely in either case the way the dodgers played away the astros would play the as have four games against the astros on this current essentially too weak homestand at the is have they've got to san francisco and then it's a week and a half at the coliseum kim in a in a kind of a tough one you know they've got the astros coming in and they got the yankees and then they've got to against the giants finish up at the coliseum so fun week a busy week but a tough one now. I know you haven't seen the ice for a while. The thing that jumped out to me and you've probably noticed from afar is the rotation has just been so much better better than we ever. They all spring we kept saying man with this. Rotation might not be very good. We spent the offseason going. Who's even gonna pitch for them. A really it's turned into the strength of the team team. The offense has been dragging <hes> and the bullpen has been radic as everyone knows what are your thoughts looking at the as current rotation especially with some of the additions editions they made with roark and bailey will go in the second game at san francisco that was supposed to be the big question mark coming in it was a big question mark last year. Oh you had a strong bullpen. You knew you had a a deep and powerful lineup but in this case for whatever reason it's the rotation nation you're right with fires and passive just awesome since the all star break and <hes> you know without montages get the p._d. Suspension and <hes> i you know maybe you have puck and luzardo. Come in come in quickly here <hes> in that'll be good news in september <hes> <hes> but it's it it's cool to see these lower scored games because of the the as have not been able to you know the firepower two run homer yesterday and as we speak it's monday here <hes> with <hes> chapman double almost a home run and then then then the two run home run but but if if if <hes> if chris davis comes around i you know then you know all bets are off. This is a this is a mighty team once again but that's a really strange james thing. He seems healthy but <hes> he's seems out a rhythm timing. He's getting full. He's swinging balls out of the zone. What what do you see there you see because that was the one consistency in the lineup. You knew he was gonna hit. Forty home runs collect one hundred r._b._i. Is in hit <hes> was it to forty three to forty seven year and in this year is just not happening yeah. It's you know the the injuries obviously affected him before the break he is now fully healthy but <unk> as bob melvin mentioned in chicago this week <unk> sometimes when you're injured you can get into some bad habits when he come back. Can throw your timing off. It's such when you're talking about hating a big league fastball or taking pitch you're talking about you know just fractions of an inch here in in their something different with your setup with your swing and of course your timing just to a millisecond off and you're just not going to barrel the ball and that's what we're seen gene. We've seen a lot of <hes> he's. He's actually hitting the ball better but he's just not quite there. He's not quite barreling the ball up. He's having good at bats much better at bats recently. He's taken some walks. He's getting some big singles. He's mitch mixing them in but that is not with the as need they need that big threat in the middle of the order in the fact you know he volunteered to move down lineup which to take some pressure off him and he felt like other people could do the job better and kudos for him for recognizing that and suggesting it <hes> shows is no ego shows. He's a team guy but <hes> without as much a threat in the middle of the order that affects matt olson his numbers have been a little bit down recently and a clearly has affected matt chapman. You can pitch around matt chapman a little bit more you can pitch around metals and a little bit more when you don't have have chris davis swimming swinging the bat while they need him to get on on track the fact the as have stuck right in contention with chris davis doing very little power our wise and with trying to intervene oh really not getting on track at all you know they've been waiting for them for months and months and every it's you know it's a half step forward and two steps back two steps back it seems like it's pretty extraordinary <hes> and if they get any of those guys but especially davis to come back even partway to where they usually are they could be could be in pretty decent shape because she's they've essentially managed to do without them for for months. Now yet seems could be one of melbourne's best managing jobs given all that you just what we say that you know you look who really had been there and most electrifying player. You're the guy who kind of was getting things going. You know especially late in games. He's got you know kinda that plays with passion and had the knack for the big hit and and <hes> you know he's out until i i'm going to say a safe assumption. Maybe early september. That's a huge blow in here. The still are just hanging around. They will not go away. They've got that chance and you look at their schedule. They don't play anymore. Wildcard <hes> candidates <hes> but you know like you said houston and new york they play klay eight against the astros six against the yankees but otherwise they play all losing teams then again the raise who were right there with the as in the wild card art race <hes> are in the stretch applying twenty one straight games against losing teams so <hes> the schedule seems to be somewhat <hes> you know equal equal for those teams and <hes> you know the cleveland and minnesota just got done playing a four game series cleveland did better eh. That's the only race they only evisceration in the league right now. They're they're tied for first place but but yeah i'm i'm thinking if maybe the season goes as chris davis grows. Maybe he'll it is to to forty seven again and all that but but but then again he has seventeen home runs and we're talking giants as right going into inserts that would be number one on the giants and he's he's having his worst year in oakland so that that goes to show you how these two teams are built our you know one for power one not so much for fowler got to rely on other things and and <hes> anyway so it's it'll be a nice little two game series but but more than that <hes> like you said the as a stretcher where like houston in the end the yankee so van if they can finish you know five hundred through that they're they're a decent shape they are. Are you know hey ma as somebody asked me in the reluctant as mail bag that i just posted somebody asked me maybe should chris. Davis consider cutting his hair like matt chapman. It seemed to work for chapman hits. The homer almost hit hits went out in the the final game at chicago centrally did it just kinda got hauled back in a little bit <hes> yet. Why not ah i love chris davis his hair but you know maybe it's time to to sacrifice it for for i guess a bigger bigger 'cause if he if he wants to consider that <hes> the way the d. h. <hes> in the national league park with what's chris davis's role he he he played so well in the field in pittsburgh you know he he looked actually really solid. He's always been a decent outfielder in terms of being able to go and get the ball make the placing should it's always just been that arm but he actually made some good throws in that series but making a superb catch in foul territory up against the wall. He incurred that side injury which really has impacted his his season terribly. He's not gonna play in the field in notionally game and i get i'm guessing might not ever play on the field again as a result talk which is a shame but he's just too valuable for the as even when he's struggling. They're not gonna try so he will be. I guarantee you. He will be getting some at bats. He'll be coming coming off the bench but he will not not be in the field. The good thing is for from the as perspective is chad. Penders been playing very well in the outfield. He's always very good outfielder and he's also <hes> hitting the ball better than he has all year so <hes> he might be a little bit of a wildcard in in that series <hes> robbie grossman getting on as how some good options out there. <hes> canna always likes to mix things up in san francisco. I think that just kind of figured out that he's got a lot of personality <hes> and loves to play the giants who he grew up rooting for so we might see some who we see about flip against bumgarner. I don't know what happened. If if mac max muncie got that kind of reaction what is mark canada do they're going to be looking out for that so he's with laureano out. He's he's doing a nice job in center and almost providing as much personality and passion slower ghana which stuff to do and of course we should mention you know. It's a two thousand nineteen. You've done some really nice work writing about memories of those nineteen eighty nine teams <hes> specially the giants who wrote a really nice pace coming up these series have really got to remind you of <hes> you know really special season for both teams in one thousand nine hundred nine yeah i was at the giants little get together the night before the reunion <hes> downtown hotel and just urine some guys talk. Yeah i mean they're thing was winning the pennant obviously they got swept by the way so there wasn't a whole lot of talk about the world series <hes> it was you know quite a season to win the division and then beat the cubs in was it five games with we'll clark going off etc <hes> but but <hes> with again with the few things i did hear about the world series..

Suspension end. I you know maybe you have puck and luzardo come and come and quickly here. <hes> and that'll be good news in september <hes> but it's it it. It's cool to see these lower sculler games because <hes> the the as of not been able to you know the firepower ought to run over yesterday and as we speak it's monday here <hes> with <hes> chapman double almost a home run and then and then then the two run home run but but if if <hes> if chris davis comes around you know then then you know all bets are off. This is a mighty team once again but that's a really strange thing. He seems healthy but <hes> he seems out of rhythm timing. He's getting full. These swinger balls <music> out of the zone a. y. Y what do you see. Do you see because that was the one consistency in the lineup. You knew he was gonna hit. Forty home runs collect one hundred r._b._i.'s and hit it. <hes> was a two forty three to forty seven year and in this year is just not happening. It's you know the the injuries obviously affected him before the break he is now fully healthy but as many as melvin mentioned in chicago this week <unk> sometimes when you're injured you can get into some bad habits when you come back can throw your timing off. It's such when you're talking about hitting you know big league fastball or a breaking pitch. You're talking about you know just fractions of an inch inch here and there something different with your setup with your swing and of course your timing just a millisecond off and you're just not going to barrel ball and that's that's what we're seeing. We've seen a lot of <hes> you know. He's he's actually hitting the ball better but he's just not quite there. He's not quite barreling the ball up. He's having good at bats bats much better at bats recently. He's taken some walks. He's getting some big singles mitch mixing them in but that is not with the as need they need that big threat in the middle of the order in fact he volunteered to move down the lineup which <hes> to take some pressure off him any felt like other people could do the job better and kudos for him for recognizing that and suggesting it shows no ego shows. He's a team guy but without as much a threat in the middle of the order at that affects matt olson his numbers have been a little little bit down recently and clearly has affected matt chapman. You can pitch around matt chapman a little bit more you can pitch around medals and a little bit more when when you don't have chris davis swing swinging the bat while they need him to get on on track the fact that as have stuck writing contention with chris davis doing very very little power wise and with china and intervene oh really not getting on track at all you know they've been waiting for them for months and months and every it's you know it's it's a half step forward to step back two steps back. It seems like it's pretty extraordinary <hes> and if they get any of those guys but especially davis to come back even partway to where they usually are they could be. They could be in pretty decent shape 'cause she essentially managed to do it without them. For for months now yet seems could be one of melbourne's. That's managing jobs given all that you just said what we say that allow right now who really had been there and most electrifying refine player the guy who kind of getting things going you know especially late in games. He's got you know kinda that plays with passion and had the knack for the big hit hit in <hes>. He's out until you know i. I'm going to say safe assumption. Maybe early september. That's a huge blow in here. The still are just hanging around. They will not go. We'll wait if that chance and you look at their schedule. They don't play anymore. Wildcard <hes> candidates <hes> but like you said houston and new york they play eight against the astros at six against the yankees but otherwise they play all losing teams then again the raise who were right there with the as in in the wild card race <hes> are in the stretch applying twenty one straight games against the losing team so <hes> the schedule seems to be somewhat <hes> <hes> you know equal for those teams and <hes> you know the cleveland and minnesota just got done playing four game series cleveland did veteran that that's the only race the only division race in in the league right now. They're they're tied for first place but but yeah i'm thinking if maybe the season some goes as chris davis goes maybe he'll it is to to forty seven again and all that but but but then again he he has seventeen home runs that we're talking giants as as reiko <unk> that would be number one on the giants and he's he's having his worst year yet in oakland so that goes to show you how how these teams are built our you know one one for power and whatnot so much for our got to rely on other things and and <hes> anyway so it's it'll be a nice little two game series but but more than that <hes> like you said the as have a stretch here where the houston in the end the yankees so they if they can finish you know five hundred through that they're they're a decent shape jake they are and as somebody asked me in the reluctant as mail bag that i just posted somebody asked me maybe should chris. Davis considered cutting his hair like match it. It seemed to work for chapman hits homer. Almost hit hits went out in the final game at chicago essentially did it just kinda got hauled back in a little bit <hes> get why not i i love chris davis hair but you know maybe it's time to to to sacrifice it for for i guess a bigger bigger 'cause if he if he wants to consider that <hes> that's twenty oh by the way the <hes> in the nationally park what's chris davis's role he he played so well in the field in pittsburgh berg. He looked actually really solid. He's always been a decent outfielder in terms of being able to go and get the ball make the place should it's always just been that arm but he actually made some good throws rose in that series but making superb catch in foul territory up against the wall he he incurred that side injury which really has impacted his in his season terribly. He's not gonna play in the field in nokia came and i i get i'm guessing may might not ever play in the field again as a result <hes> which is a shame but he's just too valuable for the as even when he struggling that they're not gonna try so he will be. I guarantee you. He will be getting some at bats. He'll be coming off the bench but he will not not be in the field. The good thing is for from the as perspective is <hes> chad henderson playing very well in the outfield. He's always very good outfielder and he's also <hes> hitting the ball better than he has all year so <hes> he might be a little bit of a wildcard in in that series robbie grossman's getting on base as how some good options out there canna always likes to mix things up in san francisco i think of kind of figured out that he's got a lot of personality <hes> and and loves to play the giants who he grew up rooting for <hes> so we might see some who we see a bat flip against bumgarner. I don't know what happened. If if mac max muncie got that kind of reaction what is mark canada do they're going to be looking out for that so <hes> he's with laureano out..

Party like it's 1994: For one preseason game, Raiders retake L.A
"I feel like we were here. We were just having this conversation about the Rams ten minutes ago. We were here Saturday morning, ten AM to one PM. We add the Rams pregame show followed by the post game show. I'm the Rams took down the raiders in their home game for the raiders this weekend. It was good for the Rams that win on the road and the preseason in Los Angeles. It's funny, and the Rams have done a really good job of reintroducing themselves to the city and the best way they can do it. Well, the second best way, the best way they're gonna be able to do it is with that new stadium. Now everybody's going to be excited about that, right? But the second best way that they can do it in conjunction with the new stadium is to be good, which we expect them to be. So that's that's good news as well. And this is not a slight at the Rams in any way at all. The raiders are still argue the most popular football team in this
