How Bruce Jenner Fanned the Flames of American Patriotism

"But try and remember how we felt as Americans. After the Vietnam War, after Watergate, and believe it or not, patriotism was back on such full public display that people were I swear to God, people were painting fire hydrants and turning them into red, white, and blue star, spangled, monuments, everywhere I remember because my friends and I did it. And Jenner's display at the 1976 Olympics only increased that display of pride in our country. And like basketball, that the Catalan was an Olympic event that America always dominated in. It went way back to Jim Thorpe, an American who had wanted to cath lawn and every Olympics, but three from 1912 to 1968. Think about that. And as what happened in men's basketball, the United States didn't win the Catalan in 1972 because two Soviet athletes took the gold and the silver, so here comes Bruce Jenner who used to sell insurance when he was in training, he brought back gold to America in that year with a world record score of 8616, the points don't matter. It's just what I told you should manner. The fact that a guy had to sell insurance in the off season while he trained to be the best athlete in the world. And after he crossed that finish line in the 1500 meter finale, some fan rushed onto the track and gave him a small U.S. flag on a stick and right away Bruce Jenner thought, and he talked about this on the cabin, he thought, you know, maybe it was a little bit of a hot doggy move to put the flag out there. He felt it was just too much, but he decided to wave the flag anyhow, and that became a transcendent moment in American sports and America in general. Kind of moment you don't see anymore. When you see Olympic champions waving the stars and stripes after their victories now, it's because of Bruce Jenner. And I still remember watching that race. In my living room was a 14 year old kid in just thinking there was nothing and there was nobody better than America.

Golden State Warriors' Coach Dodges Question on China

"I was watching the coach of the National Basketball Association Golden State Warriors. Steve Kerr. Steve Kerr. And he was asked about a news conference about what is happening in China. The NBA hates America and loves China. It's a scummy organization in the NBA. Who's the head of it? Is that Adam silver who is that? He's really another one who. To the extent that he will ever be remembered it will be for harming the cause of liberty on earth. The NBA seems to attract pretty scummy people in its high echelons. And not a few like LeBron James and its among its players. So he was asked if he would condemn what is happening in Chinese. Well, I'm not, you know, they don't ask me in China to condemn I'm paraphrasing. To condemn all the AR-15 mass murders in America.

Packed Black Friday sports schedule

"AP sports I'm Tom Miriam. On Black Friday, the NBA and NHL were as busy as the shopping malls. 14 NBA games and 13 on the ice were played the day after both leagues were off for Thanksgiving. The Celtics added to their league leading record by beating searching Sacramento as Jason Tatum scored 30 with help from the Boston bench. I think when we might have been down for the end of the half of ten, he knows because of those guys came in and just changed the momentum. The bucks kept pace by beating the Cavaliers thanks largely to a 35, ten third quarter in which Bobby port has played a key role. Felt good for us overall as a basketball team, because it felt like we was playing books, basketball, for a chance. Victories also for the Lakers heat suns, warriors, nuggets, grizzly sixers pacers, rockets, thunder hornets, and the trailblazers in overtime over the Knicks. NHL, the bruins became the first team to win its first 12 home games in the season, as they beat the hurricanes three to two in overtime on David pasternak's gold. Big win for us, obviously, and coming from behind, you know, after Thanksgiving, the game is never easy, so it's good with. The devil's after having their 13 game win streak snap bounced back with a three one win in Buffalo. Other winners, the capitals penguins islanders red wings, Maple Leafs Canadians kraken jets, senators kings and lightning, with Braden points scoring too early goals. I think both teams were into it right away. It was nice to get a couple goals for us early. Pretty good jump on the game. I thought it was a fun game. World Cup soccer, the United States finished in a scoreless tie with England as coach Greg berhalter's young team had the better scoring chances. Overall, pleased with the performance of the group, most importantly, the belief of the group, because that never wavered. The U.S. now must be to ran on Tuesday to advance to the knockout round. Plenty of college action on Black Friday, football winners included four ranked teams tulane, Florida state UCLA and Texas, and basketball top ranked North Carolina lost a wire with state. And she voted for beto because of the abortion thing. Wow. Okay. She's like, 70, 75 years old and she's never go to Democrats, but that was just a typical woman. A lot of I was going to say somebody said that on our show that they think there's going to be a lot of that vote of women telling their husbands, oh yeah, yeah, I'm voting Republican, but that may not, right? Yes, especially in these red states who are actually feeling it right now. Yeah. You know, I can't imagine, you know, we hear stories all the time about these women who are being turned away from hospitals who are bleeding, or and also Anita the youth vote. I just saw these lines that university of Austin yesterday that were amazing. I mean, just what we're seeing provably from early voting in youth turnout is really good news. Well, that's what I'm hearing. And for my daughter. And oh by the way, and she was out of her apartment, you know, student housing. And nobody sees young guys that were like 18 or 19 out there. And they were playing basketball. And she heard one of them turn to the others and say, have you voted yet? So, you know, I mean, that's not something the 18 and 19 year olds usually talk about.

Eric Describes His Relationship With Running

"Is your favorite part of running and how did you start? My favorite part of running, wow, this could take days for me to answer that because not because there's so much about running that I like, but how did I start? When I was, let's see. It was the summer of 1976. I had just turned 13 and I write about this in my book, fish out of water, all of this is in my book fish out of water. I tell the story of my life. But I remember watching with my brother, I guess it was Frank shorter when the marathon in the Olympics in the Summer Olympics of 76 when Bruce Jenner was the winner of the decathlon. And it inspired me to want to run, but I didn't know at age 13. What does that mean to run? How do you run whatever? So a year later, when cross country when I was, I entered high school actually tenth grade begins in Danbury high school. It was started a tenth grade to high school. I should say at three classes because it's such a big school. So in tenth grade, when I was 14 because I skipped a grade, I was very young, but at age 14, a friend of mine, I mentioned him in the book, Luke benac. He said he was going to go out for cross country. And I thought, well, I always, I've known lukes in 6th grade. I was always faster as a runner than Luke by far. And I thought, well, if Luke could go out for cars company, maybe I should go out for cross country. So I went out for cross country and at age 14 in extremely worn out basketball sneakers, I ran the entire cross country season. I was JV. I'm not particularly talented, but I gave it the old school try and I ran the whole season.

"This 24 page report from the NHL accelerating diversity and inclusion embedded in the entire thing is there something wrong with white people. It says here hockey in many respects is a universal language. Then they have a gay flag here. This commissioner Gary bettman, very weak person. Goes to the whole thing. We need to diversify the youth hockey ecosystem. Why? What's the goal here? Why do you need to do that? Combating racism and discrimination through education and accountability, oh, they have an NHL hotline to all the leagues and players to report instances of unethical conduct. The mention one leadership, dimension two education, dimension three, employment, improved recruiting and hiring and development practices throughout hockey to increase bipoc, which is, I think people of color. I don't know what the by stands for. Is that bisexual indigenous people of color? A black and okay, sorry. Black indigenous and people of color. It's hard to keep up with the intersectionality. Black indigenous people of color, not bisexual indigenous people of color. I'm sure that would be fine too with them. I'm sure if the person was bisexual, they'd get promoted. Marketing. Further developed content and communication strategies to increase and expand the appeal of hockey to young and diverse audiences. I do have to say with the NBA thing, do you think the NBA has a report to try to recruit more white people to the league? Yeah, we need to have a diversity report to go get more white folks to go play basketball. Not exactly a concern for them, then they have partnerships in their 20 four page report. "And I think there is a beauty when we're playing well. And at times, everybody's hard to watch. I'll be honest. I mean, we're in there. I did all that. But that's part of it. My dad got so much criticism about that. And I think I learned from him, you know, when I watched his teams play and they were saying, you know, going at him a little bit, and he said, he just was so stubborn and said, this is the way we have to do it. If I hadn't seen him go through that, I think I would have tried to venture away. I got to do a quick fix. I got to be different, but I just saw him. This is our best chance to beat the best. And that was huge for me going through that process and going to the Washington state and having to go through that stuff myself. But I don't pay too much money. I probably I don't have a social media account. And none of that and I just it's more about the quality of what you're doing. If you can be good at what you do and I hate losing and I love to win in its proper perspective at times I lose perspective. And, you know, I think winning the national championship, the ones helps validate that we've done it in the right way. Because, you know, we talk about it. I wouldn't trade what's happened here in the impact in the wins and losses with, you know, playing a so called sexier style of ball, but we're helping guys get to the NBA. They're having careers overseas and we're we got rings and banners and we're doing it in a way that's right. There's different styles. That's what I love about college basketball. You got the Syracuse zone. You got our defense. You got teams that play fast. Teams that are a little more opportunistic that run motion. So that's the beauty of the college game. But also I love the kind of young men we've gotten in the value of this is a really good academic school. We're trying to balance both and do it right. So let's get on to this year's team. Every year you and I talk, whether it's in Charlottesville, whether it's at the peach yam, whether it's about now and every year you're like, we're not that good. You have us overrated. You have us overrated. Last year, I didn't have you in the top 25..

"Episode of the goodman and homo podcast. I'm jeff goodman. Robbie is in san diego right now and if you could tell. He's a little sleepy because he flew in last night in his eyes or a little tired but the other guy we got on looks. Spry looks fresh is in his office. He's ready to go. And that is virginia head coach. Tony bennett tony. How you doing. I'm good jeff robin you guys look forward to talking some basketball Let's start with overall if we can't tony So many things have changed or are changing within college basketball right. I mean you got the transfers you get the nfl. I it just feels like it's it's again it's not gonna look like it has in two years five years ten years. What what worries you. The most about all the changes It's funny as you're talking. I've just noticed over your head. I see the picture Legacy lutes legacy in just to coach. Against when i was at washington state. Father was at wisconsin After retirement came out of washington state. And is you're asking questions. I seldom does of my dad's influence was bobby knight rama. You've played for coach. I got flavor coach katy in the us. American team of when. I was back in the early nineties. He played for coach. Katy right. I just missed them. I s melissa. He he had just retired when i committed to produce. So okay. i'll tell you a lot a lot of the road trip. So i know really well. But let's but those older coaches and and you know just the game is wondering what would they think. What am i dad. We talk a little bit because it is really different. I i think having played college The game fortunately played some professionally. I think he sees some things. I think I worry my biggest concern. Is that the college game has always been more not perfect but about the game about comradery about the unique experience that young men get. That can't be touched. No matter what they can go and make millions of dollars. They can go and they can win an nba championship. They can go klay and reach their individual dreams which is amazing and rights to go after but to a person i experienced myself in many met a lot more success in the nba. The time i spent in college whether it was low major. Not even i go back terry porter. Who played for. My dad played seventy years when being finals in on non say you can't touch that the crowds the camaraderie. The the ups announced the stories. It just becomes business so my hope is that. that's greatest. Fear is a long answer. But i think it's the right answer leaser. Mind mind that this doesn't become too much where you.

"I welcome to jenny. Hoops said we're going to break down days number one two and three in las vegas nevada sunday. Monday and tuesday night so sunday was the first of nba summer league. Take it back from the start of my trip. There leaning into vegas saturday night pre lit around eleven o'clock at night getting the mgm right away. When realizing that i was really hungry. Didn't know exactly what to do. I looked up everywhere nearby things. We're feeling if you're a pretty close this late at night. But i found a pizza place in the mgm. Mgm was huge. I was walking around it. There are people everywhere. There's a lot of stuff going on but there wasn't really a lot of food options on this one pizza place and it looked pretty good. There's a long line. And i saw people walking away from it with pizza. Boxes ended up being about eight dollars a slice for pizza. I ended up spending. I wanted three slices with tax and everything was around forty dollars which is pretty absurd. But that's just my first experience in vegas while i was waiting on line or before. I think i saw the price. Even i saw one woman being carried out on a stretcher. Hopefully she's okay. I'm not sure what happened there. I'm lou must have been something with with with just drinking too much but yeah just overall a lot of stuff happening on that first night on and then checking out in the morning walking a mile to the link. Which wasn't my best idea. I really i. I wasn't really. I don't want to keep accruing uber charges. So as you know what. It's a mile away. I'll just walk it when my suitcase and ended up. It was a mild felt like ten miles with the scorching. Las vegas nevada heat and of course all the cars whizzing by. It wasn't the best idea. I've had but still just a fun experience just walking around seeing an feeling the city. I was a lot of fun once. I got filling out the bags with the bell service and once the fantastic forty event. I was really excited for this one. Because i had heard about it from kevin takas podcast. Sports business secrets. And i knew a couple of my guests are going to be like nelson to roba. Who unfortunately left before. I got there my dig. It's me with kevin target. Though because a lot of fun and shall treat was hyun-sil emmanuel's playing for those of you know he's the he's kind of big on talk instagram's he's the basketball players kinda gone viral and overtime for having playing with only one arm missing one of his arms from tragedy and saying when he was a child and he honestly balled out during the game from from scouting perspective or coach's perspective was kind of an impressive as layup lines. I felt like he was really. It looked very sloppy. It's something that i think for most players a college coach. They'd walk out of the gym right away because he started just doing. Some sloppy dribble moves on a ball of missing. Layups on your player of that caliber. You would think you know you'd be keeping teammates engage and taking things a little more seriously than during the game. Obviously really well though made some really nice shots obviously with using his one hand. He's one handed three point shots and he also got a donkey caught your baseline with the right hand jumped up and flushed it which is pretty which is pretty impressive. I'm ba- really. His attitude and his overall approach to the game was kind of startling to me. One thing that really stuck out that is kind of what made me see the other things. As being such red flags was. He picked up a technical foul..

Because what this ultimately means for me is that you get to watch potential elliott other rookie successful right beside the last year the manual quickly and success that he brought at times mixed right hell get to him in a minute but maybe miles can be that other gaffe right the fact that he can shoot three and the fact that he wasn't scared of big moments and i don't always liked it because everyone likes to do that to demean these players about saying these guys are coming into. You know trying to be scared. The moment this awad It's a different environment. You get like me. I noticed that this by applying different situations basketball wise or different tourist the after a justice situation. Some guys adjust really well to win. Some guys. don't right miles. Mcbride through his crai- adjusted really. Well any any fit Fits very well. This offense regularly doesn't ask for too much at least it seems like he can hit threes. I'll take brian so As obviously a really important point to break death in and again. I'm i'm excited for because i i wanna see. The rookies of the next has some success and he was very successful night as a good thing to watch does that mean is good translate over him. Beans accessible reason in the regular season. Nuff does not mean that. I think he's going be pretty successful. Because i think he's got tools to make it happen but does again. It doesn't necessarily guarantee that he's going to be successful. Does brian but i'm excited to see what he what he can and will do. More excited about is the fact that obi shopping as you stepped up in play big when he had to. Ob top was a guy who who struggled mightily. His rookie year was very frustrating. Because he couldn't really hit threes Didn't really always know where he needs to be on. The court defensively was a bit of a liability at times but as season got on he played better he had. He had some better moments in the playoffs bedrooms for season and he showed some promise. Right everyone's really excited about what he did. The preseason within the roses in game he didn't have a whole lot confidence game. Shot wasn't going in.

That's the fact that he is Arguably the best not oriental yet yes. He's the best player in usa basketball history. Best black three one. Three gold medals has the most amount of points in usa. basketball history. Didn't his wife the. Why do i like stories like this. Why do i enjoy talking about how people do things their way while because it's important to recognize that leaders are born differ voice right people might not like the kevin durant. Has you know mitt acquirers Could be sensitive to some stuff on social media but the important thing to point out though is that he got the job done when people myself in and other people saying the usa team was gonna finish ideal thousand silver though. They are losing the gold medal game. Kevin durant proof something. I think that is more about the fact that he showed that the americans still have it in that even though they're not as far apart from the world they used to be they can still be the other skill teams won it matters and it just shows you again why basketball's a great global game right. It shows you once again. Why people appreciate watching the game grow in become.

"Basketball podcast. If you missed the last segment we talked about. Us a basketball. All the drama going on with them with some guys leaving due to kobe exhibition losses. You know they did get one win. But there's been a lot of drama going on with usa basketball so if you guys wanna hear my thoughts on that please go ahead and do so however now or and be talking about some nba rumors. Whether it's damian lillard. Asking for a trade. Ben simmons trade talks going on you got some some guys in cleveland. Possibly leaving so We're gonna talk about all that in this segment and Yet man there's there's a lot going on even though you know we're still not in that Free agency mold. Were not in the off season yet. We still got the nba finals. Going on it's never just quiet. There's never anything quite going on in the nba. There's always going to be some kinda talk whether it's fake rumors or whatnot. In one of the big ones going on right now is damian. Lillard possibly asking for a trade request from the portland trailblazers and you know that at some point something like this was going to come out but like i just never would have imagined it to be now like i would have expected it to be sometime during the season if portland just never got right and they looked like you know. They're the same old team a bin for his latter. His last nine seasons with the with the franchise. And i was right damian. Lillard i mean even when i when i first saw it i was really surprised. I i you know i didn't. I was a little sceptical. I was like okay. Maybe this is a little fake especially when merkich came out and was tweeting. Like you're actually going to believe this guy come on and he's laughing and you know how close merkich and aiming low lavar. They've been there for the last couple seasons together and they've got built a very very good relationship and it ended up. Being true mean damian lillard was not asking for a trade. You know even did an interview recently After a usa basketball training you know practice talking about how you know. It's not coming from my mouth. I don't know what these people are talking about. Saying that i'm asking for trade And even some guys were. Were suggesting that he's going to be preferring new york as a destination and of course that's a lot of this new york media trying to hype up their franchise trying to make them seem like. Oh yeah they just made a fourteen. Maybe get knocked out in the first round. But they're in line to pick up one of the biggest superstars in the nba. That is the way as in this. Nba media. You gotta get a story wherever you possibly can even if you have to make it up out of thin air. That's just the way it is however this was shut down very quickly. it didn't even take day before damian. Lillard came out and talk about how these rumors were fake. He's not thinking about leaving. Expects himself in a portland trailblazers uniform at the start of this next season which i was expecting as well you know. If he really wanted out he would have said it as soon as they were eliminated. And would have said yeah. I don't know if this is gonna work out. Whatever the case he would have done it in a nice. You know small way. But he wouldn't he wouldn't just blatantly been like yeah nutri. That's not the kind of guy de mueller is. But since he didn't do that. I figured he would probably be on the roster leading into this next season and then of course depending on how this season goes then. He will decide whether he can't be here anymore and wants to trade. Or if he's gonna work out the rest of his contract and become an li once he becomes a free agent so daming lillard is not leading but he does have things to say about this portland trailblazers. He talked about how great the city is. How great the fans are you. Know how this franchise has built a very solid culture in in terms of winning. They've done nothing but win over these years that he's been there he's literally been there nine seasons and i think they made the playoffs every single season. If i'm if i'm not mistaken i feel like he's made the playoffs every single season. They made it to the western conference finals. I know they got swept by the golden state warriors. But still they. They are a solid team but of course it gets point like you said word. That's not enough. You know you you need to show and prove that the goal here is to win a championship. That's what he wants. He wants to win a championship and more than anything else. He wants to win a championship with portland. That's that's the thing. He wants to win a championship with the portland. Trailblazers usually wants to get them their first ever title. And i completely understand. He's a loyal guy he wants to be there. He loves that that city. It's become his home and he doesn't wanna leave them however he is willing to make a tough decision if it looks like. They're not heading in that direction. And that's what he said. There needs to be some urgency and one hundred percent agree with him. There needs to be urgency. He need they need to show him that. They're willing to make tough decisions. And and make big moves to get him guys that he needs in order to compete for a title and whether that means separating him in mccullum because it kind of feels like you know that duo has plateaued after exit to the denver. Nuggets without joel murray. And it's you know could cause if they go into the season with this exact same teen what in in what world you feel like their title contenders you know. They got an amazing player. Damian lillard they got some solid pieces in mccullum. Newark robert covington. You know cardinal anthony derek jones junior you can go on and on they got some solid pieces you know. But they're not they don't have a number. Two mccullum isn't a number two. He's made a solid number three. You know maybe he can fill that number two role at at some points but he's not a legitimate number two especially when you're number one place pretty much the same exact role just better than him. And that's what makes it tough to guards to offensive minded guards that don't give you much on the defensive end. And that's not really going to work. It's a kind of the same thing as what's going on with the philadelphia seventy sixers and i know that joel. Embiid and simmons are different types of players. But they're in a way like they both play in the same area of the floor. They both like to play inside which clogs up that paint so to have to build the team around both of those guys. It's tough you either have to take joel and beat out of the paint. Which is what he doesn't wanna do You have to surround them with three elite three point shooters which is not the easiest thing to do like this past season. they got tobias harris. Who is a solid number three. But he's not a knock down three point shooter he. He's a three level score kind of do it in all areas of the game offensively. But he's not a guy that you can just put on the three point line and expected knockdown threes. you know. Obviously seth curry is that danny. Green was that but isn't anymore so it's tough but it's the same situation goes on there. Which kind of leads me to my next point in this segment. Which is ben simmons. Trade talks and you know maybe portland and philadelphia can come to come to an agreement and sand simmons to portland and then mccullum comes to philly. That's been one train. That's been talked about but of course in that sense. You know you gotta think portland's getting the the best of the straight like mccollum is thirty years old. He's already the player that he's going to. Betty has been for the past couple seasons. He's not gonna get any better you know. But he's i don't think he's going to get any worse because that thirty years old..

"Welcome back to the gmc basketball podcast. If you missed the last segment we did a recap of games three and four of the nba finals. Also a bit of a prediction for the rest of the series. If you guys want to go check that out please go ahead and do so. But now we're gonna be talking about the usa basketball crisis going on right now. There's a lot of drama happening with the usa basketball team. Whether it's cova protocols losing exhibition matches Player still not with the roster. Whatever the case may be. There is something going on with usa basketball. And we're gonna get into all of that but man it's it's just it's been a tough week man whether it was the two exhibition losses to nigeria and What was the other team that they lost two. They lost to australia. They did win against argentina in and they you know beat them handedly. What was it one way to eighty but man it was. It was a tough first two games for the usa. And like we can. I go to that that usa nigeria game where they lost ninety two eighty seven and it just felt like that. There was no competitiveness on the defensive side. Nigeria made twenty three pointers. And you gotta give credit to that. Nigeria side led by a few mba talents. In joshua kogi russia. Chew paula gave. Vincent also know that as nnamdi you know. They all had some very solid gain whether paula playing solid. Defense on one side of okogie giving his pressure on the defensive end as well and giving some you some minutes on the on the offensive. End this well. Of course you had e. k. nwama. Who was absolutely killing at thirteen points. Seven rebounds to assist. But then game vincent man six for eight from the three point line twenty one points representing that miami heat team and we can't forget that a true of block on katie. When he was driving in it was just a very impressive stuff. But when you get your best to players on the usa side. Going eight for twenty. Three combined between damian lillard and kevin durant it. That's just not gonna cut it. You need to be more efficient on that end and what i saw more on that in. That game was a lot of ice. Oh play a lot of these guys is trying to beat their main off. the dribble. sure they'll take a pick from whether it was bam on a bio or dream on green. They would take the picks but then it was just you know they were just trying to beat those guys on their own at like look out of the twas at twenty six total field goals made the only had what how many assists that nineteen assists. I mean i guess that's not too bad but still to it. Just it just felt like you know a lot of ice. Oh ball a lot of you told them just trying to beat their individual matchup which is just. It's not gonna work you know. Oh and and also like someone. I got a mention on the nigeria side. Caleb agata that guy was in his bag all night. What seven for ten three for three from the fruit from the three point line for seventeen points. What three rebounds two assists that. That man was absolutely killing it off the bench for nigeria but it was just a very very poor performance from usa like they were in the lead for a good amount of the game especially in the in the first half. They were relieving by two points at the half. But then the second half they couldn't really muster anything together and when you think of all the us aid teams that we've seen in the past. I know this team. You know it's a lot of young players kind of put together. No you got. The experience of durant has been in an olympic team. But like a lot of these other guys don't have any experience in the olympics in international play. So you know. They're not used to the way that these games are called the the the different rules. you know. you see a lot of the time when you know they're used to getting these touch vows in the nba. That's that's that's one of the glaring things that you've seen from the team which is like you know they're expecting these calls but that's not gonna happen in international play. You know you're you're not gonna get those touch vows so you see guys like tatum bill. who else i got out. I think lillard also just like they get hate and they're expecting to get a call on for them and they're not so they're kind of like looking at the rafts wondering what's going on and then nigeria's just taking. They're not an expecting anything from this game. You know they wanna come out play his heart as they possibly can and get a chance to beat. You know what's considered the best team in the world. And they did just that so you gotta give nigeria a whole bunch of credit. They absolutely deserve it. You know sticking to their game plan making threes and it was from like pretty much everybody even though gave vinson had six of those twenty you had three from nwama one from a three from E k oro orbu say that name another one two more from metu to from only three from a gotta like you got three point shots from like what was that seven different players on the roster that that that's impressive stuff it was. It was being spread out everywhere. They weren't the only ones that took shots. You know casey politika few joshua kogi as well make them but they at least kept the defense honest and overall it was a very very impressive showing from that nigeria that young nigeria squad and For for usa mandate. They need to get it together because that was that was a very poor showing. And then you know you get them going up against australia. Who's who's considered a better team than nigeria. I think by jury of ranked like somewhere in the twenty s like like a high twenty no low twenties in ranking and feeble. But then you got australia..

"All that guy gets focused around the individual. And i use the term individualism basketball versus collectivism basketball when i described usa versus international teams. And what do i mean by that. Well the united states for example is very good basketball. Obviously look at all these. Au prospects look at the great players that play in our mba right college players young guys who are just coming up in ascending high school. Right you name it. We've had a lot of talented players and still do the lighthouse placing nited states and those guys are gonna go on to play in college or nba or in the nba. Doing well right. And the reason being is because their style play fits well the united states. The i'd that united states basketball is made. And what exactly is that for people that are trying to understand what i'm trying to talk about here. Well the united states basketball is pretty simple for made it to explain. It's basically individualistic basketball. 'isolation you do yourself fast paced right running the wings i score ever. I want you know high picket role in the nicer. But there's not much at this as much. Unlike field cut off the basketball right being able to play without the basketball on your hands and everyone falls victim that you want to have the ball in your hands. You want to score. You wanna look good in one you want to have the highlights but there is a reason why the international are catching up to the united states. More and i'm overreacting here.

"Many points has more points than draymond. Green zach levine. Saying that as as bam at a bio more points than jeremy grant and bradley beal. I mean a very good basketball player. Obviously but better that the should be producing more than bradley. Beal and zach levine. Draymond green. i don't know suppose that they have four active. Nba players that team for active the players. The united states has all mba guys in their team who are supposed to be stores in this league. All mba guys on the they made all nba team now mining the. Forget me look. It's one game right. They had play together. Nigeria's play a lot longer together. I understand that a lot of times. When you don't have good chemistry and you don't take a team seriously and maybe you don't come out and move the ball as well and play with an openness mindset. You're trying to get used to each other. You move through a game. That is through a team that shoots the ball really well from three because the three point shot does keep you in games. I understand all of that. That makes a lot of sense right. it does I get right. I get however it doesn't excuse losing to nigeria austrailia fut- right. I'm not trying to say the nigerian not cable. "A drill make free throws in a row. Go to next drill. Do a drill. So if i may nine i missed i go. I had to stay on. The line is long is until i made ten in a row. But then what i would do is. I would always finish my workout by having to make ten in a row. The only difference is that at the end of the workout. Once i made ten in a row denied just shoot until. I missed to just see whatever i could make in You know i get to fifty. You know there's all let me just keep going and sometimes i literally be rebounded my by myself. Sometimes i'd have other people. But when i made one hundred and thirty two as you say that i was actually at my school and it was a basketball camp that i was working and it was kinda like during lunchtime and i started shooting free throws and then by the i'd made so many that lunch was over in kids will come back in. "I didn't even know that it was outside new york city. Right your your your travel with the team appealing. Oh big basketball. That's another way for people to be around the game time to appreciate that. That's really cool thinking about that. Also and you mentioned how it's kind of grown toward is now shut off as a travel team it's evolved into your doing all these clinics and things like that. I mean what. I thought was really cool. Maybe is the inclusion with things like the nba evolved with the g. league in the nba. And obviously you went engineer. Nba coach of the year. How has they a basketball. Maybe grown to being cooperated with so many other programs in can continue. Growing yemen has just been a true blessing. And you know. I'm a firm believer that when you do things with with the good motive and proper intention that opportunities will attract themselves to you. And i think it was good to go out and seek things but i think that people also notice good people in notice quality work so with each of those things with the junior. Nba coach of the year. You know never in my wildest dreams did you know. I begin to start coaching kids to think about getting an award or getting my own personal satisfaction. "Travel around in play different colleges and then we get paid to play so the colleges would pay. These explorers would pay us as far as players in a. I did that one year and ninety eight and then began to think like man like you know i can do this. So in ninety nine. I created big apple basketball. And what big apple basketball i started out was was pro-tory team where it was myself in a lot of my friends who had played uconn and you know any atlantic ten and i had a couple of former nba players. I created a team of based upon my network of friends and we travel around in division one schools. In the way that i came up with the name big apple basketball was because i knew that we were going to be traveling and i wanted a name. That really Signified where we from we were from so i knew no matter where we travel. We said we're the name of program and then team is big. I will basketball. People automatically new no from new york city in what happened. Was that turned into me. Creating additional programs around big apple basketball so then it branched off. From just being a touring team to begin doing basketball training and workouts to helping players get overseas jobs so when i first started my my real training and everything i was doing big basketball in the beginning it was really essentially just for pro players and then what i began to do around two thousand three will start to build out programs for high school players and younger kids you know and then then the model. I just kind of took the same model that i was doing with the pro in overseas players in started doing with with young players. It's funny. I mentioned too early. But when i was eleven years old when i judge to basketball of course maybe it was with the locals. Cyo greek league teams but also they One of her colleagues recommended touring the city. And i was one of the first things i ever got to ask like. Okay well it could be limited. This basketball thing took a few more years after that. Really fall in love with as one of my first introduction to in it's crate Amazing how not just. Maybe i didn't even know that it was outside new york city. Right your your your travel with the team appealing. Oh big basketball. That's another way for people to be around the game time to appreciate that. That's really cool thinking about that.
